Anyways drawing Spring Unsprung Briar gave me a wild amount of creative energy so here's my pitch for a Spring Unsprung Darling costume

Some details just for fun under the cut:

•Since Lizzie is the designer of the original SU outfits, that's also the case here. Lizzie is perceptive enough of Cerise and her style to very specifically fit her needs without even knowing what those needs are (heavy hood, long hair, big jacket, all very good for keeping covered, no?). The same would happen with Darling. Lizzie might pick up on her fascination with Wonderland, the jewelry fashioned like chainmail or bracers, and decide to incorporate it into her design. I don't know if Lizzie even realizes how perceptive she is, she just has an eye for what brings out someone's real personality.

•In terms of actual design, my main inspiration was chess! I let go of the literal shape pretty fast, but I really liked the idea of her looking like a fancy chess piece as a nod to her wonderland shenanigans. Cerise, Kitty, Lizzie, and Cedar all have black and white recurring patterns with 1-3 main colors, so I tried to mimic that here. I mostly just used the color scheme from my ref sheet I did a hot minute ago

•The hair flowers and colorful makeup were non-negotiable of course. I did want to make the flowers have some kind of relevance, but in the end I just gave up and made 'em generic yellow flowers. Any flower symbolism nerds who want to throw their hat in the ring be my guest!!

•I basically just tried to orient the whole thing around asymmetry and reflection, and I think that worked really well in this case, I think it really makes her pop

•She isn't wearing her typical Charming crest, but the symbol is spread out in a couple of pieces. Heart gem at the center of the neck like normal, and the wing is made into one of those ear cuff things

•The background was just kind of a whim, but there is a reason for it. I decided a while ago that the Charming family animal is a lion, so any heraldry or heirloom or anything like that is probably gonna have that winged heart and/or lion imagery on it. If Daring is the peak of the Charmings, then Daring is a lion. Similarly, Darling is a borzoi. It's just different enough to communicate that she's the black sheep of the family, but has enough similar traits to make it clear that she's not in opposition with them. Plus I think borzois are whimsical as hell with the right lighting and I thought it would look neat

•You can see it right in the corner of one of her eyes, I was playing with maybe giving her partial heterochromia? I think I'm gonna stick with just brown eyes but I'm keeping the concept tucked away in the back of my brain for another character

I've been trying to become closer to God lately! One of the things is... can I still have an identity outside of my Christian faith? I know Jesus calls us to love God with all our hearts, minds, and souls, and I genuinely would love to! However, my brain tends to take things to the extreme (I have OCD, so this is a common theme for me even outside of my faith). I guess I'm just scared that if I love God wholeheartedly, will I lose different aspects of my life other than faith? And if I do have other aspects of my life other than my life, does that mean I'm not actually loving God with all my being as Christ calls me to do?

Hi there, so sorry for the delay! This is an excellent question, and here is my answer (yes, in meme form lol, I couldn't resist):

If a faith community or leader is telling you to let go of things that bring you joy, that nourish your God-gifted creativity and uniqueness, that help you connect to the larger world in your own distinct way...run, don't walk, to the nearest exit. That's not a faith community that is invested in Jesus's design for abundant life for all beings (John 10:10).

Loving God and following after Jesus doesn't mean relinquishing what makes us us — God makes us us, bestows unique gifts upon each of us, because God delights in diversity!

We can't have community without distinct parts that come together into the whole. We can't have relationships — with God, with other humans, with all Creation — without having a self out of which we relate to the other. So cultivate your identity — your true identity, liberated from a pressure to conform to capitalism and other evils; and seek ways to support others in achieving their truest selves.

Instead of seeing some parts of your life as "outside your Christian faith," learn to see even the most mundane elements of life as part of how you live out your love for God. Maybe you love making jewelry, or cute lil comics — take the time to feel gratitude towards the God who gifted you that creativity; or use your art to bring a smile to someone's face. Maybe there's a piece of fiction that you're really into — what lessons does it teach you about how to live in relationship with others, or how can you cultivate kindness in the fandom community? Maybe you have a really distinctive sense of humor; use it to cheer someone up who's having a bad day. And on and on.

I direct you to this post where I talk more about how we bring our individual identity into our relationship with God and God's community.

For instance, there's this quote from theologian Shirley Guthrie in Christian Doctrine:

In Christian Doctrine, Shirley Guthrie puts this idea of God’s plan for individuality within community very well:

A genuine relationship between ourselves and others is possible only when there is distinction between us in which we remain who we are and others remain who they are. To attempt to do away with our own or others’ unique individuality is to make a real relationship between us impossible, and just as inhuman as individualism.”

So be yourself, find others who delight in who you are, and seek to experience God in all things, not just the specific things that tend to get labeled "godly."

And know that there isn't One Right Way to love God and love neighbor — there are as many ways as there are living beings. You'll find your unique way organically, as you go. <3

Process of my HEX Gift

I finally remembered to take a few screenshots of my progress stages and I always wanted to do a walkthrough post so here we are!!

I did not have a specific prompt from my giftee, except for the ship which was Silrah so I decided I wanted to draw a cozy romantic Christmas scene.

Which totally showed in my first sketch...definitely... My first sketches mostly look unrecognizable and there is no real system for them because it's just lines for my brain to visualize where I want everything to be. Sometimes they look like this, sometimes they are more light/shadow inclusive. The next step was to work out the poses for Farah and Saul and as you can see, I was struggling. 🤣

When I finally found the pose I was looking for and fleshed out some elements in the background it was time for one of my absolute favorite parts.....that I forgot to screenshot....THE VALUES Which is me trying to figure out the lighting by blocking in light and dark areas with various shades of grey. But because I forgot to take a screenshot (and the value layer that I normally keep until the end for reference disappeared into the void of procreate) we will skip straight to the colour! I very roughly block in the areas with the colours I have in mind to see if everything fits and change what I don't like yet. When that is done I now have a finished concept which I need to refine and then paint!

And now I reached the point of actual background design which was HARD. I looked at many pics of Farah's headmistress' office to try and get a feel for what items might be in her private suite. The mantle of the fireplace looked very empty even after I added the little astrology magic thing and the flowers so I decided to add a circle just like the ones in her office as @septemberrie deducted. I also played around with the design of the fire guard because I wanted it to have that elegant whimsical fairy vibe. I added a lamp inspired by one from Sims 4 and a book in the foreground to hide the awkward angle they are sitting at. For the frame on the wall, I wanted a moon-themed design but it took me a while to figure it out, which is why I left the frame empty for now. Then it was time for lineart and actually sketching in the elements I wanted to be in the background. I usually set my colour or value layer and the sketch layer to 20% and draw over it.

You might also notice that the wrapped sword disappeared...which I regret to this day because I simply forgot to paint it into the rough lineart and only remembered when Skye asked what's supposed to be in the remaining present. Maybe I will add it at some point because now Saul has no present...except for Farah. But the square box present was meant to be Saul's present to Farah and originally I wanted a jewelry box but it was too small to see so I just....put a bigger box. Creativity *sparkles*

Another thing is that from the rough line-art to the nice line-art (yes I always draw my line-art two or three times.....even though line-art is my least favorite stage probably) the Christmas tree is losing a lot of ornaments. Originally I wanted to put in way more stuff like small straw stars or figurines but after painting a million tiny branches I started regretting every life decision that brought me to this point so I simplified the tree. A lot. In the end, I don't regret that because I think it fits them even better. Silrah don't strike me as people who go all out on Christmas and rather just decorate small and tastefully (given they would even celebrate because Otherworld= different culture, but we ignore that piece of worldbuilding for this Christmas-themed drawing)

Next I block in every area on a separate layer so I can alpha-lock them for the painting process. At this point I was getting too annoyed with the tree because painting it was a pain in the ass so I started shading and painting in textures and finishing everything else before even continuing to block in the tree.

The whole image was still too cold at this point so I went in with one of my favorite parts: atmosphere and then lighting bringing it all together and making the painting shine! Painting light is so much fun and I definitely want to learn more about lighting and structure to get better at it but I really love it when someone compliments the light in my art!!

I also finally added the title of the book in the front. I wanted it to be something about magic that Farah would read and looked at various old book covers with pretty lettering. I decided on "The Story of Magic" because I found a very pretty-looking reference cover with exactly the letters that I needed to spell.

And then....something was still missing......THE TREE. (I didn't take a progress picture at that stage that's why it's already in the pics up there but in the end I still had to draw the light on the branches and after doing about four or five of them I decided the effort was not worth the result and did the light reflection very very roughly. But I don't think anyone except me really notices.

And tada the finished Christmas drawing!

Hey its the Nigerian anon from earlier, and I haven't read events yet I'm going to wait for more reliable translators to bring it out. For now I've only seen twst Zazu, the other version of the outfits and 'catch the tail'?

Catch the tail sorta reminds me of the annual wrestling festival my community holds as well as the masquerades (these aren't as fun, much more traumatising than it sounds). So it's a good reminder at least

Twst Zazu who I've only seen the design of reminds me of Ambrose the third in a Appearance, I showed my fellow Nigerian parents his design but their first response was 'why was he white' ' and reminded them of the dancing guy in African attire.

The outfits I'm a bit more skeptical on, on one hand they seem to implement traditional fabrics, on the other it seems to be a more sexualised version of it. And frankly I'm not a fan of the fan service.

Hello, and welcome back!! ^^ It’s good to know that you’re patiently waiting for quality translations for the ongoing event. Sometimes quick translations can result in misinformation spreading (which I’m sure you’re aware of!).

Only 2 parts of the story are out at the moment, but we’ve already seen some exciting things! A new character, a new environment, and lots of new lore…!! ✨

Wrestling isn’t too big of a thing in my part of the world, but it’s cool to see that it is in other places! These kinds of events bring people out and help a community feel more tightly knit~ I wonder if Catch the Tail took inspiration from similar kinds of wrestling festivals in real life?? Side note: hopefully those masquerades aren’t that bad 😅

I believe our twisted!Zazu is named Kifaji!! He seems to serve a similar role as Zazu did in The Lion King, giving morning reports and overseeing the royal household. He has a sort of angular disposition, I think much less “soft” than Ambrose. I’m glad that TWST isn’t afraid to introduce more elderly characters like Kifaji, Ambrose, and Marja (Epel’s granny); it really helps the world feel more “real” than if they just kept throwing young attractive men at us. Funnily enough, Leona actually has a line in the event where he’s all like, “yeah, as if you common tourists would be allowed to meet the king” (Farena/Falena). It feels like the devs are teasing us with that 😂 They knew how hyped we were for his design to be dropped bdkwbzjNvwjwvwjs

I understand why Kifaji’s skin color may be a little odd to your parents seeing as they don’t have the full context for TWST or the event 😅 The Sunset Savanna does seem to boast a light skinned portion of the population as well (Rook, Ruggie, Sebek’s grandfather before he moved to the Briar Valley)! I believe this is also true of Africa, no?

By the outfits, you mean the alternate versions of the Catch the Tail attire, correct? As I said in my original post, I’m not familiar with African fashion so I’m not really at liberty to speak at length about it. I don’t think my opinion should have a lot of weight on this matter, and I don’t want to step on the toes of anyone that does have something substantial to say about this, so I’ll only be giving very precursory thoughts.

I was giving the originals the benefit of the doubt since it would be virtually impossible to “accurately” represent all of Africa in a single outfit without taking some creative liberties and incorporating elements from various parts of the continent. I feel like the bold colors and patterns have a lot of rich history and culture behind them! However 💦 I’m a little less forgiving with the alts??

I’m fine with the arms being exposed because it serves a practical purpose (the goal of Catch the Tail is to grab the opponent’s mask thing off their head snd that’s probably easier to do without the fabric and jewelry in the way). I don’t know about the exposed midriff though? Maybe I’m just misinformed or misunderstanding something (again, I’m not that educated on African fashion), but it resembles a skintight crop top to me and kind of gives the vibes it was only presented this way to be “hot”. I sort of get it from a business perspective; it’s a gacha game and the companies behind TWST want to make money so some degree of fan service is to be expected. However, I can definitely see why this could read as perhaps insensitive fan service 😔

That being said, I’d like to take this opportunity to say 💦 while I’m flattered that some people want to know my opinions, I would prefer it if I wasn’t asked to give my thoughts on these kinds of very specific cultural things. I don’t feel right talking about it in detail since my own knowledge is limited, and again, I don’t want to misspeak or to talk over those who know better than I do.

Hey! Im sorry if this question has already been asked (I feel like it has) but how would you describe the angels’ fashion to be like? I know they wear lots of jewelry and adornments but I’d like to get a good idea, especially with the ways they do their hair.

I’m currently working on some character designs for a short graphic novel piece im tryna do. So far im going for a mix of traditional Mexican flowery designs and the elaborate robes I see angels wearing in religious paintings.

Also, I imagine that after the fall, the angels stop wearing so much jewelry and adornments, and start to wear more modest vestments, akin to those of a cleric’s. This is either because of their shame for what happened or to show their allegiance to God, and to disavow the past (Lucifer’s rebellion). Meanwhile, the demons continue to dress extravagantly, decked out in every sort of jewel there is.

Hello! I don't think anyone's every specifically asked about fashion!

I usually imagine their fashion to be a big mash-up of cultures, with the biggest influence being Roman (which is probably what you're seeing in those angel paintings) and Mexican ! I do gain inspiration from other cultural backgrounds (generally "Near East" ancient culture, given Christianity's birth there, even if I'm going the Roman Catholicism route) but I generally stick to "robes and tunics" in a purposefully vague way.

When I describe angels in tunics, I tend to imagine them in the style of colorful huipils:

Though, it's less that "the angels in ABM are explicitly in huipils" and more that I see their clothing as really beautifully embroidered, with patterns and striking colors. So you could imagine them in something like... traditional Slavic embroidered dresses or anything else you like :) The intent here is that the angels have the time (because they live forever) to make really intricate, detailed, time-consuming clothes, so that's what they like to wear

Braids are mentioned a lot in ABM! I think there's definitely something there about ribbons in braids, (which is more Mexican influence on my part ajhdsjkds). All angels have long hair, so I think they generally find creative ways to pick it up and have gotten attached to braids for that reason. I know head coverings are brought up too, and I imagine their head coverings to be embroidered or patterned like their clothes. (Angels are obsessed with colors). I think they like to put flowers in their hair, also! Flower crowns are probably popular, but I imagine they can get a bit annoying if the flowers on the crown keep yapping.

As for jewelry — I imagine they have a lot of filigree jewelry. This:

I think this for the same reason that they're so into embroidery — it's time-consuming, beautiful, and very detailed.

At the end of the days, angels are just really obsessed with color, detail, and patterns! It's incredibly over the top! But they're gay angels so of course its over the top

I have a few selfship children, like, kids I had with an f/o but they've been mostly in my head and I think I'm going to make a post about them to give them concrete identities, this is gonna be long and mostly for my reference pfft

My Kids with Elliott

Primrose and Salvador!!! Primrose is the eldest. In my head she's about 8, and Salvador is maybe 3 or 4.

Primrose is a rambunctious little child, loves to play pretend, very imaginative and curious!

She LOVES the animals on the farm, tries to spend time with them, sometimes even ends up bothering them lmao she will sometimes get in trouble for stressing them out by trying to play with them I think

Takes a leader role when she's playing with Salvador

Salvador is also super rambunctious, often gets into places he shouldn't 'cause he's just so damn small and fast lmao

Salvador eagerly follows Primrose everywhere, he thinks she's so cool and wants to be just like her.

Sometimes Primrose gets him in trouble or tries to frame him for things she did, the crafty lil kid

Salvador is scared of most of the animals 😂 He LOVES the cat though, and he's the only one the cat tolerates bothering her like that, to the point of cuddling up with Salvador on her own accord

They are loved by everyone in town!!!! Because I yearn for idyllic small town life. Primrose especially likes Haley and Emily, she likes Haley's fashion sense and loves when she does makeup on her. She really likes Emily's energy and the weird stuff she does. Salvador really likes Gus, always wants to get dinner at the Saloon. Gus loves Salvador's appetite and willingness to try new foods, and always gives him free snacks. Salvador also really likes Shane for some reason??? I think he thinks Shane's standoffishness means that he's shy so he wants to make him feel included lmao

My Kids with Sidon

Thresher and Frill our beloved little zora babies 🥺

They exist in the AU where I become a Zora via a Zora mask like in Maj/ora's Ma/sk, blah blah blah

Thresher and Frill hatched together on the same day only minutes apart. Thresher hatched first.

Thresher is a wild child, very loud and excitable like his father

Frill is a shy kid, a little soft-spoken and very clingy to her parents

Thresher is super protective of Frill but also wants her to come with him on his little adventures!

Though I do think Thresher sometimes gets in trouble for picking on his sister. He can be a little shit sometimes, I think lol he takes things away from her so he can look at it or play with it, and plays keepaway

But if anyone else does that stuff to her he gets really upset and might even get into fights with them

Thresher is also super protective of me, I think, even from Sidon sometimes when Sidon and I are roughhousing or he's picking on me for being short or something pffft Thresher run in like I'LL SAVE YOU MAMA

Thresher thinks his dad is SO COOL and he's right but yeah FDSFH SUPER IDOLIZES HIS DAD !!!

Thresher looks up to Dorephan too, and loves to hear his stories about his feats as the previous king. He loves to hear about Zora history. He probably asks Sidon to recount his own experiences as a bedtime story.

Frill is so creative and so smart, she loves to make her own little pieces of jewelry and she loves gemstones. She collects rocks that she finds, whether or not they're gems, she just has a rock collection and she loves to talk about her rocks and what she named them and makes up stories about them. I've had a thought about having a child with Demyx ahfkdjsh he means so much to me and I can kind of imagine us having a kid eventually...

I remember having a fankid designed when I was in high school and selfshipped with Demyx lmao and his name was August, inspired by the film Aug/ust R/ush... idk if I would do that again but I'm considering it..?

They would be such an imaginative little child... with two artists for parents, I think they are just downright wacky and creative and fun and we just absolutely love them and we encourage that creativity so much.

So, I think of myself as a very creative person. I like writing a lot, I make jewelry, baking and I just like making things. I'm also handy with power tools because of various projects. I am also a big fan of solving puzzles and trying to figure out how things work. I'm an up and coming archeologist, and historical/cultural scholar, particularly in relation to how the concepts of magic and mythology shape world cultures and their interactions and developments. I actually plan on teaching a class on that one day.

I tend to collect odd bits (mostly containers for some reason) for projects, and always have pen and paper one hand for when inspiration strikes. When I'm not doing crafty things, I'm listening to music and generally just vibing.

Another thing is that I'm half organized. Certain things are super meticulous (my closet for example. I can tell you where everything is down to the hanger position. I'm the same way with my books.) and other things (mainly surfaces) are in complete disarray. What is organized is generally color coded, and I'm generally color coordinated.

I sometimes like to say I'm the dumbest smart person in the room sometimes, because I can break down complicated things, and have long discussions about various, often college level topics, and two seconds later, ask a very obvious question that should be common sense.

I read a lot, and will often make commentary as I'm reading. It's a whole experience.

I'm the kind of person who enjoys going to art galleries, museums, and aquariums, and just getting to learn new things.

Also, I'm a sucker for coffee dates with long discussions and then hitting the bookstore afterwards.

Probably a lot more information than you needed, but better to give more to provide better material for analysis, than to provide very little, and get something generic. Not that I think you would, I'm just saying that in general.

ok uhuh, look no judgements here, i am also fuckin dreadfully unorganised in some things and hyper-organised in others. so is oswald. crimes and things? planned perfectly? his museum displays? lovely! his office? looks like a fuckin nightmare like jeez buddy, but the colour coding? the man wears purple everything so he can mix and match key wardrobe pieces, which is just SMART

Fantasy Culture Tables: Beauty and Fashion Standards

Meant for your next city, group or counter culture, as a random table or list of ideas

Practicality. Clean and simple clothes, work minded builds and minimal cosmetics. To be honest, most don’t have the time to beautify.

A specific color. Perhaps it’s a dye hard to come across normally, perhaps it’s associated with a figure of power, but if you’re not wearing it, you’re on the outs.

A lack of color. Perhaps it’s because of a reverence for rouges, perhaps a local designer has deemed it flattering, but gaudy or colorfully dressed members of adventuring parties are sure to stand out.

Thick/covering clothing. Perhaps fabric is a sign of status, perhaps weavers are considered culturally important, but at the end of the day showing skin is for those who don’t care about fashion.

Revealing clothing. Though some may think they know the motivations, in reality this is a largely practical matter. Perhaps the local aasimar population needs a bare back for the health of their wings, or the local drow can only absorb the moon through bare skin, so their nightclothes cannot cover much.

Excess. Crazy patterns, jewelry, even face paint is an easy way to show off your creativity, which they treasure here. So go big or go home.

Jewels and metals. Perhaps thanks to proximity to a mine, perhaps reverence for a gem dragon, the marker of a good member of that society is indeed the gems on their body.

Capes. The material, color and length can tell you everything you need to know about someone from this place. Perhaps any party members wearing one will want their own checked out to prevent… false information.

Combat readiness. Armor is high fashion, sharp teeth or claws can draw in any partner you want, and those looking unequipped? Well the locals feel sorry for them indeed.

Religious inspired. Perhaps it’s wearing the holy symbol of a certain figure on any garment you can, perhaps it’s copying a famous depiction of the figure, but everyone knows the ultimate example of beauty has to be divine.

Tattoos. Complex pictures of life events and achievements tell the story of a person and determine if a person is worth talking to. An individual without them will certainly be a fascinating sight to behold.

Bone. In jewelry or on armor, wearing bone here is a way to mark yourself in charge of the monsters around the area, a trophy to wear with you. Maybe this place adores the exposed bone of tiefling horns as well.

Dual-function clothes and accessories: Hidden swords and knives, lock picks and sheaths are the heights of fashion and yet somehow this community trusts each other completely.

Flowers. From patterns to wearing them in one’s hair, connection to flowers is vital here. What they mean is too, so choose accessories cautiously.

Moving clothing and accessories: In a place that reveres artificers, a mechanical movement to your glasses or a skirt whose hoop can part to allow access up stairs is considered a massive status symbol. Especially if somehow, you helped make it personally.

Masks. In a place where identity is precious as secrecy, it is wise to cover your face. Not because you are more beautiful, but because He may know you if you don’t.

Heirlooms. Everything may look old, but any local knows the value of the story it holds. Locals will ask, so what will your party say?

Dead things. Skulls, decayed tree bark and rotted materiel show a maturity here, an acceptance and love of what comes after. Perhaps it’s thanks to a death god’s influence, perhaps something less direct, but the locals will show off clothing many may call creepy with great pride.

Text. Usually written in the lining of a suit coat or in a jewelry piece, it is expected the words a person wears are the ones they live by. But beware of reading any local’s words, especially aloud. You do not know the magic they might hold.

Illusion magic. Here, there’s only one thing no one looks like: Themselves. No one’s face is their own, and it doesn’t seem to bother them, but no one around seems to tell anyone why. Then it occurs to you: Do they even remember?

Hello lovely! I was wondering if I could maybe get a Kingsman, Batman, and x-files romantic matchup? I’m 20 and use she/her pronouns. I’m bi so any gender is fine. For personality I’m creative, introverted, and individualistic. Though I’m introverted, around my friends/when I’m comfortable I can be quite talkative and humorous. However, I definitely treasure my alone time the most. Im a very big homebody and can be very hermit introvert sometimes. As for bad traits, I am sometimes the worst pessimist when it comes to myself. I’ll be fine motivating others but then when it comes to me I live by the “be ready for the worst and you wont be disappointed” As for hobbies escaping to new worlds while reading books/comics, watching movies, and playing rpg video games. My favorite genres are fantasy and sci-fi, though I do love a good classic from time to time. Apart from that, I love working out. My interests on the other hand are art focused. I’m currently in art school working with mostly digital mediums, though I sometimes work with traditional. I love my practice and everything including, game, web and interaction design, video art and visual effects, 3D modeling and character design, and digital illustration. Sometimes I whip out graphite and ink.

👽 You met Mulder when you were hired as a secretary for the extraterrestrial believer, and he quickly asked if you believed, you were too shocked by the abrupt question to answer properly

👽 Though you and Mulder had that awkward and rocky interaction, Mulder was quite nice when asking you to do anything for him, always saying please and thank you, while even sometimes letting you go home early some days

👽 As time went on, you noticed how awkward (and adorable) Mulder was acting, sometimes fumbling over his words or even walking into a closed door once after talking to you

👽 You grew closer to the man, to the point you knew exactly how he liked his coffee and you even got to the point where you could call him Fox, but only when no one was around

👽 Fox even surprised you one time, after having a rough day at work, he showed up at your desk with some chai tea, which made your heart warm and stomach flutter happily; it even started to become a habit for him to get you coffee or tea in the afternoon

👽 At this point, Fox knew you enjoyed fantasy and sci-fi movies, and he'd occasionally invite you to his place for an alien movie night; which also turned into a weekly event the two of you would do together, even Scully would join sometimes

👽 When you had nothing to do, no errands to run, or papers to file, you'd sketch in your notebook, sometimes unintentionally (intentionally), sketching Fox... And some aliens; that had become a habit for you at this point

👽 One time, when Scully had been out sick, Skinner had asked you to be a temporary agent/partner with Fox on a small X-File, nothing too big, he thought it was a hoax... But Fox knew there was something... Fishy going on ("Something fishy is going on." He's say)

👽 Turns out there was something fishy going on, someone or... Something had been mutating the local fish in Springfield Oregon; making the fish have three eyes, now you had never seen anything like that before, and it was an X-File mission success to put it simply in the end

👽 And, after a long work day, you and Fox would spend the time together watching movies or even just discussing the great unknown of space and aliens in general; you always loved those times, seeing how excited and interested Fox was about the subject, and Fox felt the same as you would sketch aliens beside him as he spoke

All the kpop idols being invited to fashion events and becoming houses ambassadors made me think about how fashion luxury houses are so fast to turn around and try to seduce a public they used to turn their backs to. In fact, these companies have always wanted to dissociate themselves with certain groups and figures. The Kardashians are a great example of this phenomenon, luxury houses didn’t really want anything to do with them until Balmain’s creative director Olivier Rousteing took an interest in the family.

In France, owning luxury items is popular in urban areas leading to a love and hate relationship between fashion houses and these populations that don’t fit the image of said houses. The derogatory, racist and classist term “Lacoste TN” designate young black and north African men living in urban areas dressing in Lacoste tracksuits with AirMax TN sneakers. The term is widely known and shows the popularity of this style mixing streetwear and luxury. Unfortunately for these houses, this is not the lifestyle and outdoor activities they are trying to promote :( The luxury tennis outfit oriented brand Lacoste especially, whose popularity in the suburbs is incredible, has been vocal about not wanting to associate with this group. Eventually, with them playing quite a large part in Lacoste’s sales in France, the house ended collaborating with french rapper Moha La Squale.

France is not the first country encountering this behavior. Actually, the popularization of streetwear, monogram, sneakers and chunky jewelry in luxury is due to the African American community in neighborhoods of New York and Hip Hop music. Dapper Dan was an amazing designer from Harlem, is influence on black music and the style associated with it is huge. His work at first consisted of creating knock-offs of luxury items and playing around with logos. That is how the monogram print was popularized. Luxury houses which excluded black people, did not want to be associated with them or their music, called their style tacky, ghetto or ratchet started reappropriating these creations and selling them to white rich people in the suburbs.

When European luxury houses first made their first steps into Asia, whiteness and the Parisian style was the goal. Boarding school uniform inspired preppy was in vogue in Japan starting from the 1960′s. I have always found it odd how 30 years later, with the rise of Harajuku fashion and the popularity of streetstyle photography magazine FRUiTS, these brands never tried to collaborate or work with young Japanese artists. It was maybe too tacky for them, too out of pocket or too “street” since it seems like it is a global problem. So it is funny now to see how Heavn by Marc Jacobs collaborated with FRUiTS Magazine’s photographer Shoichi Aoki and tried to mimic an aesthetic by watering down alternative asian fashion culture and manufacturing it to sell it to the mass while the whole purpose of the movement was to protest against social norms by being unique and creating unique in the world pieces mixing traditional and modern clothing. I am not trying to say i hate the brand, I actually liked it at first, I am juste a girl in my twenties who likes asian fashion so of course I liked it. But when thinking about it, nothing new has been created, everything they sell is already available on the market. It just caters down to mass consumerism and the “weird girl aesthetic” that for some reason makes me think of the manic pixie dream girl except it is fashion.

Now with the influence of Korean culture you know they had to ! Houses will go out of their way to have at least one Korean celebrity sit at their show, idols being the golden ticket. Even if this is not new and even if I am glad artists get this opportunity, I find it sad and sometimes reducing to invite pretty faces instead of actually working with them on interesting projects, especially since South Korea is a buzzing spot for emerging designers and small artists. It is like non white people have two options: be excluded or be a totem.
