i’m finding that the x-files is wonderfully formulaic. scully and mulder show up at a new location on assignment. they get the details of the case. he says some wacko off-the-wall shit about aliens. she looks at him like she wants to eat him. very efficient system, really.

no matter how many times they split up and then get kidnapped and/or attacked and/or held hostage and/or otherwise injured or incapacitated, they STILL keep doing it.
and not because they want to either! they hate splitting up! but they KEEP DOING IT ANYWAY.
they are literally the people in a horror movie that hear a weird fucking noise in the basement and then "go check it out", followed by "we should split up".
on top of that, as soon as they separate or one of them lands in the hospital, they also lose their shared braincell and go even more insane than usual.
scully threatens half the fbi to find mulder, insults spender and throws some death threats at him, everyone who sees her coming practically catapults themselves out of her way, no one DARES to say a single word when she's on the warpath for mulder. she kisses skinner when he gets her the info she needs and then accuses him of murder & betrayal later on anyway. again
meanwhile mulder not only yells threats at anyone and anything around him, he also loses his impulse control completely and starts physically hurting people to find/help her. he has the horrible habit of disregarding his own health and safety if it means scully is fine or to revenge her.
any perp who thinks "maybe i should kidnap one of them" is handing over his life because now there is nothing in the universe capable of stopping them from getting back to each other— and that includes gravely injuring and/or killing whoever separated them in the first place.

The real mystery of the x files is how mulder keeps his job for so many years

trying to fall asleep at night but then i remember literally every episode where scully thinks mulder is absolutely insane but she follows him anyways because she loves him and she’s not letting him do this alone and how mulder was willing to give up the x-files if it meant scully would be safe and how if one of them is in danger the other would literally burn down to the world to pick each other from the ashes and now i can’t fucking sleep

i analyse characters to such an absurd extent that i come up with things that the writers/creators/cast probably never even considered.
and guess what. i’m right.

Mulder, texting Scully: I have a question for you
Scully: Yes I’d cry if you died
Scully: Yes I’d still love you if you was a worm
Scully: Yes I still love you
Scully: No I don’t want to break up
Mulder: Thank you
