#yes she only reacts to El
Text
She walked to the head of Max's bed, holding her hand and leaned in to give a kiss on her cheek. "I'll be back tomorrow, Max. I promise."
Eleven's heart seemed to stop for a moment, and she looked down at her hand in Max's. She furrowed her brow, trying to understand if the slight squeeze in her hand had really happened or if she was imagining things.
(...)
"I'm sure you would have liked it there. Mike said the house was practically destroyed by government agents after I got arrested. Oh, yeah, there's that. I got arrested, can you believe it?" Eleven laughed, imagining Max's reaction to this information. "They arrested me because I hit Angela." El shook her head. "But that's a story for another day."
Eleven's eyes widened, and she looked at her hand in Max's. She thought she felt a slight squeeze in her fingers, but it couldn't be, could it? She narrowed her eyes, focusing all her attention on their hands for minutes, but nothing happened.

He regrets waking up that day.
He regrets saying yes to Robin and the kids to hang out.
He regrets picking up Max’s phone call.
If he wouldn’t have done any of these things, he wouldn’t be where he is right now.
Parked in front of your house so he can drive you both to Robin’s.
It’s been a week since the day at his place, a week since you had stormed out of his house, a week since he had last seen you. It almost feels weird. He can’t even remember the last time he had gone without seeing you this long. If you’re not hanging out with the group, he sees you going into the coffee shop across from Family Video every afternoon. Sometimes you even run into each other at Bradley’s Big Buy, but since last Saturday, he hasn’t seen you anywhere – it’s almost as though you had disappeared. Maybe he would have worried if it wasn’t for Max and El gushing over your shopping trip to Indianapolis the other day, he panicked when they told him that, thinking that you were driving again when you still weren’t allowed to, but El had calmed him down, telling him that you used the train.
With a sigh, he gets out of the car. He runs his fingers through his hair out of nervousness. He rings the doorbell and takes a step back, staring at the wooden door.
How will you even react to seeing him here?
You’re surely expecting Eddie, not him.
The door opens after a moment, revealing you on the other side, looking as beautiful as always – unfortunately. You’re wearing a white top, the soft pink stripes matching the color of your glossy lips, your skin looking soft and glowy as the sun shines into your house, the fading bruises are almost all gone, finally. The scent of your perfume, something sweet and flowery invades his space, and he can’t help but inhale it, feeling warmth blooming in his chest.
He takes you in, the way you look beneath the sun rays, the way your dainty necklace lies so prettily on your chest, the way your lashes touch your skin as you blink at him.
The smile on your face instantly fades away when you lock eyes with him, the usual grumpy frown takes over instead, that pulls him back into reality.
“The fuck are you doing here?”
Yeah, you’re only pretty and cute when you keep your mouth shut.
He clenches his jaw, trying not to show how annoyed he is already.
“Picking you up.”
You furrow your brows at him, “what? Where’s Eddie?”
“He forgot about his Doctor’s appointment, he had to rush out. Max called me and told me to pick you up.”
“Oh,” you nod and you stare at him for a long moment before a smile appears on your face, “she told you, huh?”
Caught off guard by the smile on your face, he stays quiet, only nodding at your words.
You chuckle to yourself, turning away from him to pick up your jacket and your keys. Surprising him by not fighting him, you step out of the house and close the door. You look him up and down, eying the keys in his hand.
“Can I drive your car?” You ask, tilting your head, “I promise I’ll take better care of it than you ever could.”
He snorts at your words, looking at you with an expression that almost makes you laugh.
“With that head injury? Yeah, not a fucking chance, Blondie.”
Rolling your eyes, you brush past him, already making your way over to his car.
“It’s been like what… a month? I’m all healed, I’m feeling peachy.”
“A month and you still get dizzy and don’t even lie about it.”
Once again, you keep quiet instead of throwing a smartass remark back, it makes him furrow his brows at you. Instead of opening the door, he leans his elbow on the roof of his car, looking over at you curiously.
You open the door and put one foot in before you halt when you notice him staring.
“What?”
“Did you fall on your head or something?”
You shake your head at him, scrunching your face up.
“You’re not fighting me, are you feeling okay?” He smirks.
Scoffing at his words, you flip him off before you get into the car without a single word.
He taps his fingers against the car, looking up at the blue sky with a smirk that turns into a content smile, he thought the bickering would start the moment you opened that door. Maybe today won’t be so bad.
Though when he gets into his car and he glances at you, you’re already staring back at him with that certain look in your eyes, the one that tells him everything he needs to know. Your eyes are glimmering with that smugness, the one that’s always there when you’re about to tease him with something that you know will annoy him.
“Is Nancy gonna be there?”
“Huh?”
You blink at him innocently as you fasten your seatbelt.
“Nancy, is she gonna be there? You know, since you only get the chance to be around her during these group hangouts,” you smirk.
He squints his eyes at you, biting back the bitter words that he was about to throw at you. He turns away and starts the car.
He backs out of your driveway and without a single word, he starts driving.
“Must suck being in love with someone who doesn’t feel the same, huh?”
He stares at the road ahead, blankly. He could swear there was a hint of hurt in your voice. He doesn’t look at you, despite feeling your eyes on him, he doesn’t look and only grips the steering wheel tighter.
“But what would I know,” you snort and he hears you leaning back in the seat, the leather squeaking a little as you try to get more comfortable.
Yeah, what would you know? He thinks.
You’re cold and you’re mean – he is certain that there’s not a single trace of love in your heart. How you care that deeply for Max will always remain a mystery to him.
“Are you a grandpa or something or where is the music!?”
“You make enough music for us.”
He turns to you for a brief second, to see you scrunching up your face at him, shaking your head in confusion.
“What’s that supposed to mean, Lego head?”
“Your yapping and whining is enough for me.”
“Oh, so you’re saying my yapping and whining is music to your ears?” You smirk. “Just say that you love hearing my voice.”
“Shut up,” he murmurs, glaring at you. He clenches his jaw and flicks the button to turn on the music.
Material Girl by Madonna starts playing and he instantly feels his heart dropping, his cheeks start glowing red – at least, that’s what it feels like. He grows flustered underneath your stare the moment you start laughing.
“Oh wow, I knew you were a girly girl, Harrington.”
He changes the song, calming down when some Duran Duran song starts playing instead, but you are still laughing, and he can only groan in annoyance, pointing his finger at you, “shut up, Blondie.”
Your face only grows more amused, and this is where the teasing begins and the drive to Robin’s house becomes a torture for him and he practically starts counting down the second till he can finally get out of the car that he usually loves being in.
He bites his tongue, not saying a single word while you yap away the way you always do.
What a fool he was for thinking that this day could have been good, you manage to ruin every day of his.
He can only stay quiet for so long.
“Do you ever shut up or do I have to make you!?”
That seems to shut you up. At least, for a moment. When he glances at you with angry eyes, he notices the smug look on your face that still didn’t stray away from you, not even after his words.
“And how would you do that?” You ask, mockingly.
He stares at your lips for a moment, clenching his jaw and gripping the gear stick tightly. He looks away as he turns left, pulling up in Robin’s driveway, he parks the car.
“I have an idea or two,” he mumbles and gets out before you can question him. He almost thinks that his words have stunned you, when you take a moment longer to get out of the car, but when you do and your eyes meet his, you smirk again.
He starts walking backwards, taking in the sight of you as you walk towards him. Your jeans hug your hips and your legs so perfectly that he begins to hate them. He almost feels ashamed for wanting to see them from the back. His eyes move up to your top, without intending to stare at your cleavage but he does.. and fuck, he hates how attracted his body is to you.
“So cocky and for what?” You chuckle as you brush past him, not noticing his staring.
Steve’s cheeks are red, his eyes instantly fall down to your butt when he turns around to follow you onto the porch. You move your hips and he has to clench his jaw.
It’s really a shame that he can’t stand you.
You ring the doorbell and patiently wait for Robin to open, you don’t spare him a glance, you don’t even turn around to tease him any further, he doesn’t mind it though, it gives him the chance to keep looking at you. Your skin looks soft and he sometimes catches himself wondering what it would feel like to touch you, it’s glowing and he can’t help but ask himself whether it’s because of the body cream that you put on or if it’s just this pretty on it’s own – not that he ever imagines you putting lotion on your body after a shower, definitely not.
“Oh great, you didn’t kill each other!” Robin’s voice pulls him out of his thoughts and he quickly looks away from you, clearing his throat.
Robin grabs your hand and pulls you into her house, only throwing a glance over her shoulder at him, “come on in Dingus, you know the way.”
“Yeah,” he mumbles as he walks in, watching the way his best friend pays more attention to you than to him. Not only did you nestle your way into his friend group, you had also seemingly nestled your way into Robin’s heart. He watches the friendship between you slowly blossoming and he can’t help but feel jealous of that.
He stays back in the hallway for a moment, preparing for a long evening with you.
He hears Robin talking your ear off already, Max and Lucas are in the kitchen too. But no one else is around. Nancy and Jonathan are on a date, he knows that, Jonathan gushed about it to Argyle before he left the other day and Steve couldn’t help but eavesdrop when he heard them talking about Nancy. The other teens are off doing god knows what. So much for the weekly group hangouts.
He hears your laughter and he can’t help but roll his eyes. It’s not the kind of laugh that he ever gets, no, whenever you laugh with or at him, it’s like you’re mocking him or making fun of him – not that he cares, he does the same to you. It’s your thing.
But for some reason it bothers him to hear and see you laughing like this with the others.
You get along with Robin, you get along with Eddie, you get along with the teens – hell, you even get along with Nancy even though you glared daggers at each other that day at skull rock.
With him, you’re either grumpy and rude or you’re just a snappy smug brat – which seems to be the case today.
Steve walks into the kitchen, putting on a smile to greet Max and Lucas with.
“Hey,” Max mumbles grumpily, only shooting him a brief and very forced smile before she goes back to her deep conversation with you.
Another grump, he thinks to himself. It’s not a surprise that the snappy teen likes you so much, you’re both the same person.
Lucas greets him with a handshake and a friendly smile, something that two of the three girls in this room should learn.
“Are you coming to my game next friday?”
“Yeah, of course,” Steve nods.
“You can bring her,” Lucas wiggles his brows at him, gesturing to you with a wink, “as a date,” he whispers.
Steve scrunches his face up, as though he is disgusted by the thought of it – like he wasn’t just checking you out on the porch.
“You’re joking, right?” He mumbles as he looks over Lucas’s shoulder, glancing at you.
“No,” Lucas crosses his arms over his chest, shaking his head, “you are awfully mean to her, which means that you must like her.”
Steve’s eyes widen and he looks over at you again, in sheer panic, hoping that you didn’t just hear the ridiculous words that have left Lucas’s mouth. You’re too distracted by whatever story Max is telling you though, looking back and forth between her and Robin.
He looks back at Lucas to see him staring smugly.
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“Isn’t that what you said to Dustin when he asked you for girls advice?” He snorts, shaking his head once again, “‘the key with girls is acting like you don’t care’” Lucas mocks quietly, chuckling after that.
Steve sighs, putting his hand on his hip, “he told you that?”
Lucas leans closer, “he sure did,” he smirks as he turns his head to glance at you before her turns back around, “I remembered it the other day, and it had me thinking–”
“Alright,” Steve interrupts him, he places his hands on his shoulders, “stop that, Sinclair.”
Lucas laughs, eying the flustered look on Steve’s face, who shoots him another glare before he steps away. He clears his throat, looking at the kitchen island where Robin had already prepared all the snacks.
He grabs two bowls, glancing back at Lucas, “help me carry the snacks over to the living room, man. These ladies are too busy gossiping,” he says, expecting you to turn around and throw a comment back at him, but you don’t.
Robin squints her eyes, nodding at him, “don’t give us the sass, Dingus.”
Lucas chuckles at her, he walks over to the kitchen island, reaching for the bowl of sour gummies and the M&M’s, “when is Steve ever not sassy?”
At that, you finally turn to face them, a smirk tugging at your lips, you don’t have to say anything to show him that you agree with Lucas.
He only rolls his eyes at you, no further words needed as he leaves the kitchen, stepping into the living room with Lucas trailing behind.
“Wow, you didn’t even say anything to her.”
Steve has to roll his eyes again, the teasing in his voice isn’t very subtle. He opens his mouth to speak when the doorbell rings and Lucas rushes out of the room before he can even move or say anything.
“Well, look at what the cat dragged in,” Lucas says after opening the front door.
“Found him on the side of the road.” Steve hears Eddie’s voice.
“Oh you two are such jokesters. You think I’d miss out on game night?” Dustin’s voice sounds through the hallway. “What are we even playing?”
Robin replies enthusiastically as she walks into the living room with Dustin by her side and Eddie tagging along, greeting Steve with a grin.
“Oh boy, the board’s definitely getting flipped today,” Dustin laughs.
Steve raises his brows, “you mean you will flip the board?”
Dustin tilts his head as he looks at his older friend, his smile turning into a playful frown, “hello to you too, Steve.”
“Henderson.”
Dustin claims the loveseat before anyone else can, slumping down with a grin on his face, he reaches for one of the sour gummies in the bowl.
“What’s wrong? Did your phone date not go so well with your girlfriend?” Steve teases.
“At least I have a girlfriend,” Dustin winks at him.
As you walk into the room, Lucas faces Steve again, with a teasing grin, “what do you mean, he’s got one too, she’s right there.”
Dustin gives him a funny look before he turns around with furrowed eyebrows, confusion flashing in his eyes before they widen and he turns back to look at a very unimpressed Steve.
“What!? You two are dating?” He shrieks loud enough for you to freeze in your spot.
Steve closes his eyes, shaking his head at him.
“Huh?”
Eddie rolls his eyes at Dustin, “Henderson, I think that Sinclair might have a little too much imagination over there.”
Lucas only shrugs, still grinning.
“You’re playing matchmaker with the wrong people,” Robin laughs, looking between you and Steve.
“Absolutely,” Eddie chuckles, sitting down on the couch next to her.
“Can we just play the game now?” You ask as both you and Max sit down on the ground in front of the board game that Robin had already put out.
“Ooh, we’re playing Ludo?” Dustin asks.
Everyone nods, everyone except for Robin.
“What?” She chuckles, cupping her cheek as she looks around, “that’s Wahoo.”
“Huh?” You tilt your head at her, “Wahoo?”
“That’s what the game is called,” Robin says, pointing to the board.
Steve watches the way you shake your head in confusion, slightly pouting as you stare at her. Fuck… you almost look cute.
As Eddie reaches for the dice, he throws it up in the air, catching it between two fingers, “this game is called Sorry! my friends,” he smirks, cockily. “We only need four players so who goes first?”
Lucas, who starts scarving down the snacks, waves a hand at Eddie, “I’ll sit this round out,” he says with a mouthful of chips.
“Don’t talk with food in your mouth!” Max rolls her eyes at him.
“Red, Dustin, Robin and Steve go first,” Eddie says. “The master has spoken, now let the games begin,” he says in his deep voice.
Steve rolls his eyes at him, “this isn’t D&D dude, we don’t need a master.”
“Still.”
“Okay!” Robin claps her hands together, “let’s play!”
And as the game started, everyone laughed, everyone was having fun, everyone was joking around, it was all lighthearted. Dustin was throwing tantrums in his team with Robin, while Eddie snickered. Robin was a loser, and she accepted that she sucked at this game, competing against a bunch of stubborn teens. She was the first to sit out and stop playing. Max and Lucas preferred to stay out after the first few rounds, amused by watching the gameplay.
And then, Steve and you were outright competing as if it were a championship. Neither of you even noticed that it was only you two left, everyone else stopped playing a while ago, watching this intense competition instead.
While you took it all with ease, teasing him with a few jabs here and there whenever he was losing against you, Steve took it all a little more seriously. Because the moment he lost against you more than once, the anger in him started rising – not because of the game, but because of the looks you were giving him, those smug and cocky looks, the comments that weren’t even that bad – but everything, everything about you was pissing him off this day.
Your attitude this morning, your comments, your jabs, your arrogance, you’ve been getting on his nerves from the moment you got into his car.
And right now, he can feel his chest heaving, burning in anger and frustration.
His jaw is clenched, his eyes are hurting from the intense glares that you start giving each other.
Neither of you feel the eyes of the others on you two, the nervous glances, the warning ones because everyone knows what will follow after this.
You both want to win against the other so desperately and currently, it’s a tie between the two of you. He won three rounds, you won three rounds – this apparently will be the last one, this one will decide who will win this very meaningless, stupid game.
But Robin can’t take it any longer, she can’t keep watching the two of you getting angrier each passing second, knowing that this round will only lead to another, and both you and Steve could sit here all night, because you are both stubborn brats when it comes to each other – as it seems.
“Okay!” Robin throws her hands up, snatching the dice from Steve’s hand that he was just about to throw, “can you two stop? It’s a tie, move on!”
You and Steve look away from one another, raising your heads to look at Robin who glares at the two of you.
“We’ll finish and then we’re done!”
Steve groans at your words.
“No!” Robin shakes her head, “because one will win and the other won’t, and then it’s a fucking mess, so stop playing! You fought interdimensional monsters together, for fucks sake!”
“Right, that doesn’t mean anything.” Steve rolls his eyes before he looks back at you, only to see your face fall.
He almost feels guilty. You risked your life out there, not only for Max and Lucas but also for him.
“That doesn’t mean anything!? Well aren’t you fucking grateful, Harrington.”
“Everyone fought, not just you, don’t think you’re all high and mighty,” he mumbles through the anger that he is still feeling.
A part of him is begging to just move on and keep his mouth shut, but he is frustrated, not just because of the game, but because of you, every small comment from you reminds him of how much he can’t stand you.
“Hey, hey, hey, break it up,” Eddie says as he gets up from the couch, raising his hands up as he takes in the hurt but angry look in your eyes.
You shake your head, “no, no, let him keep going! I want to hear what this bastard with his hero complex has to say to me.”
Eddie can see the way Steve is fuming, the way the anger in his eyes gets stronger and stronger. He stands up, moving closer to you as you get up as well.
“You fought with us once. Once! And you think that makes you equal to us!? You have no idea what we all went through, you have no idea the people we lost along the way, you know nothing!” He snaps at you, ignoring the way you draw back as your eyes fill with something he can’t read.
Max straightens up in her seat, already reaching for her crutches as her eyes widen, seeing the way your lips twitch as blink up at Steve.
“Steve, stop!”
If he wasn’t so angry, he would have heard the fear in Max’s voice, something that normally would’ve made him draw back in an instant.
You glance at her, shaking your head, yet again. “No, Max, it’s okay.” You turn back to face him, looking into his eyes coldly – that’s the only look he knows, that’s the one he cannot stand. “What does Steve Harrington know about loss!?”
Steve feels his gut twisting, he clenches his jaw but doesn’t answer your question, he keeps staring at you.
“What? Mom and Dad left you the whole house to yourself, and you consider that loss!?” You frown, lifting your arm, you gesture to the people in the room. “I see Robin alive, I see Eddie alive, I see all of the kids alive, so who exactly did you fucking lose, Harrington?”
Behind the anger and the emptiness in your eyes, is sadness and pain, something he can’t see through the haze that he is in, right now. All he sees is something, someone he hates, someone who acts like she knows everything, someone who does nothing but bring chaos and anger into his heart and into a friends group that is so sacred to him.
He never felt this angry before, not even when he found Nancy with Jonathan, not even when she cheated on him and left, not during a single fight with his dad, nothing had ever made him feel such rage.
“You are so fucking horrible!” He snaps at you, not caring about anything, right this second. Everyone in the room disappears, Dustin, Max and Lucas are no longer there, and neither are Robin and Eddie, it’s just you and him now. “I hate the fucking day we ran into you at Skull Rock! You are the most despicable and cold hearted bitch I’ve ever met! I would be surprised if you ever loved somebody!”
He can’t see the shock or the pain that nestles into your features.
He doesn’t even hear the gasps from the others in the room.
“Steve!” Max yells, reminding him of the fact that she is there, that everyone else is here too.
The girl almost falls over when she jumps up. Lucas stands up as well, steadying her before she can fall. They both look at you, both of them see the hurt in your eyes, the way you helplessly stare back at the guy that you risked your life for.
Robin and Eddie stare at him in disbelief, not knowing the Steve that they are looking at, right now.
All that Steve can see is red though.
“No, Mayfield, let me fucking finish because she needs to understand how terrible she is.” He practically spits in your face, not tearing his eyes away from yours, at all. “I-I mean, don’t you ever ask yourself why you don’t have anyone? Why no one bothers to stick around because I’d be really surprised if someone did – even more, I would be surprised if anyone ever loved you at all. You’re not someone easy to fucking love, Blondie. Trust me on that.”
And the moment those words fall from his lips, the room falls silent, dead silent. His heart stops racing and his skin runs cold. Suddenly, he is brought back into the room, the haze fleeting away more and more and he can now see clear again.
And as he looks at you, really looks at you, his heart drops to his stomach and every trace of anger is gone, replaced by a guilt he had never felt before.
Your eyes are filled with tears as you stare at him with nothing but pain, not a single trace of coldness in them, not a single trace of anger or indifference or even hate for the man in front of you. All he can see is pain, pain, pain.. Your tears are welling up more and more, threatening to spill down your cheeks. Your throat bobbed up and down, like you are trying to gulp down the ball of nerves and sobs threaten to fall from your lips.
For a split second, he can see through you and he sees something there never was before – something that tells him that you would let him do this, until he’d get enough of hurting you, that you would let him break you, little by little. But, he had enough.
You look down as your bottom lip starts to tremble.
As he sees that, Steve feels like the most horrible person on the planet. Worse than his dad, worse than the monsters he had fought, worse than Vecna.
What had prompted him to throw such awful and vile words at you?
The guilt that takes over almost feels unbearable and the moment he wants to take back those words, to apologize, you are already gone.
Lucas calls out to you, but the slamming of the front door is all he gets back.
Before Steve can even look around the room, his back is slammed against the nearest wall and he is met by the sight of an angry Eddie, his eyes darker than ever, nose flaring as he grips the collars of his polo, pressing him harshly against the wall.
“I would fucking punch you in the face right now, Harrington. Don’t forget who was the first person to jump into the water to save your ass!” He yells at him, giving him one final push that knocks the breath out of him before Eddie lets go and leaves to go after you.
Steve looks down, closing his eyes as he takes a deep breath.
“Steve… what the fuck?” Dustin mumbles, softly, staring at his older friend in disappointment.
Robin looks around the room, before her eyes lock on Steve, she looks at him in confusion, not understanding where all of this came from.
“Dingus.. what the hell was that? Why did you–”
“Everyone leave the room.”
It’s Max’s voice that sounds through the room, awfully calm. So calm that it takes everyone aback.
Lucas stares at his girlfriend, completely confused.
All it takes is a single look from her though and he and Dustin scatter out of the room. Dustin pulls Robin along who protests at first but follows when she looks back at Max, who only shakes her head.
It’s silent for a long minute, and Steve doesn’t know what to feel.
“That was fucked up, Steve.” Max says.
Steve pinches the bridge of his nose, fighting the tears that threaten to build up.
Not only did he hurt you, something he never thought was even possible. He also showed his friends a side of him he wanted to keep buried. A side that surely makes them feel less safe around him now.
“I-I know, I don’t.. I don’t know what’s gotten into me.”
Max purses her lips, looking down at the ground to avoid eye contact.
“She may not have been with us from the start, hell, I wasn’t either. It doesn’t mean that she didn’t experience it just the same. She may not have fought monsters, Steve. But the monsters have gotten to her without her knowing about them.”
You fought monsters, you fought the bats off of him.
He snaps his head up, staring at her with a frown on his face.
“Max I–”
The redhead shakes her head, anger and disappointment still on her face.
“I’m not the one you have to apologize to. I will not tell you her story, I’m not allowed to do that. But you are wrong, you are terribly wrong about everything you just said about her.”
She reaches for her crutches, giving him one final look before she leaves the room.
He stares at the ground with a gnawing feeling in his chest, hating himself more and more as the seconds go by.
The look you gave him will haunt him for the rest of his life.
How could he ruin everything in the span of a few minutes?
How could he not see the hurt in your eyes after only the first words that he threw at you?
How could he not see the vulnerable side of you?
How was he so blinded by the act you had put on?
He judged a book by its cover, just like King Steve had done in the past. There is no excuse. No fucking excuse for what he had done to you.

“How do you like it?” Luciana asks as she spins you to face the mirror.
Your eyes round at your own reflection. You can’t help but lean forward to get a better look at yourself. You never had a haircut like this. Nothing more than the discount trims that were often worse than not just growing it out or your at-home hack job.
“Wow,” is all you can utter.
“I hope that’s a good wow,” she chimes.
“Uh, yes, yes,” you sit back and tear your eyes from the mirror. “Thank you, it’s–”
“Oh, aren’t you so lovely!” Frigga interrupts as her heels click across the salon, “oh, it’s so wonderful. Look at you!”
Before you can react, the chair’s turning again. Frigga sweeps your hands away from under the cape and pulls you to your feet. Luciana moves to undo the long black shroud and swipes it away from your body, littering more hair onto the floor.
“Just a moment,” Luciana girds and brushes the stray bits from the back of your shirt, “there we are.”
“I must say, darling, you are even more stunning than I thought,” she keeps a hold of your right hand, “oh, Eliana, El!” She tweets across the salon, “what about makeup? Hm? Nothing too heavy, maybe a lip and some mascara–”
The platinum blond chuckles, endeared by her demanding client. You see where Laufeyson inherited that; the way the command rather than ask. You could never.
“I’ll take the little fawn,” Eliana agrees, “I have just the thing in mind.” She approaches on her long slender legs, “she has perfect colouring.”
You can’t help but preen at the compliments. You’re not used to them yet, you doubt them. These women are all so put together and gorgeous, surely they’re just being nice. You’re so much the opposite, your like a novelty; a doll for them to dress up.
“Sit,” Eliana points to another chair, “just relax, honey, I’ll take care of you.”
Frigga lets you go and you obey. You climb up into the chair and gasp as the back reclines. Eliana starts by swabbing your face with a cool liquid then pats it dry. Next, she applies a fragrant moisturizer. Her touch is relaxing but strange. You’re not used to anyone touching you.
You close your eyes as she sets to her work. She explains that she’s applying some liner and how to get a little wing at the end. She says you should keep it thin and subtly, then has you check your first eye in the mirror.
“You see, a nice brown, or grey is all you need, black is so harsh,” she shows you the pencil she used.
“Oh, thanks,” you murmur.
“Let’s even that out,” she nudges you back again and you appease her.
As she draws on your other eyelid, you hear a subtle buzz, followed by Frigga’s shrill greeting. She apologises to someone unseen before she carries on her call, heels tapping further and further away. You can hardly focus between her, Eliana’s directions, and the chatter all around you.
“Mmhmm, yes we were thinking of the Garden…” Frigga trails off as the door rings then swiftly blocks out her conversation.
“Mascara, look up,” Eliana directs, again, you obey. There’s nothing else you can do.
As nice as it all is, the hair, the makeup, and all her lovely plans, you can’t help but be embarrassed. Frigga, and Mr. Laufeyson, know you can’t afford all this. It doesn’t feel as much like kindness as it does condescension. As if they are the blessed elite giving you, a noone, with all their privileges.
It’s not a kind gesture, but a statement. You’re so far below them, you don’t even know what you don’t have. If you are to be anywhere near them, you have to fit their mold.
🧹
After the salon, Frigga drags you down the shopping strip. You shy away from the gleaming windows and the faceless mannequins in their luxurious outfits. You couldn’t wear any of it. It wouldn’t look right. Anyone would know in an instant that you don’t belong.
Inside the first shop, you make yourself as small as you can, crossing one arm to cling to the other, folding your shoulders in. You’re frightened of brushing against anything or knocking over that hand display with all the jewelry on it. As you pass a mirror, you nearly trip. You forget for a moment that it’s you staring back.
You shake your head and back away. You don’t like that feeling. You don’t recognize yourself. Even if you never really loved the girl looking back, she was familiar.
“Darling,” Frigga gives you a start as she nears, “how about this? Hm? It’s absolutely adorable.”
She holds up a purple dress; almost like an overall but more refined with three buttons along the right side. She has a plain white blouse behind it. It’s lovely but you don’t know if you like the length. You don’t think you’ve worn a skirt since grade school.
“Oh, it’s… nice.”
“Come on, try it on,” she pleads, “it would look so good on you, darling. With your figure.”
You gulp and blink, looking down at yourself. What figure? The boxy button-up and straight-legged tweed don’t betray much of that. Your body is your body; it’s just there.
“I’ll try,” you relent. It wouldn’t be polite to say no.
“Alright, you take this to a dressing room and I’ll find some shoes,” she shoves the hangers at you, “excuse me,” she turns and waves to the associate who greeted you on entry, “yes, please, she needs a room.”
The woman with ginger curls approaches and you hand over your, or rather, Frigga’s picks. Her name tag reminds you of her introduction; Celia. She guides you into the back to a large room lined with curtained stalls. She takes you to one and hangs the clothing within. You thank her quietly and turn to stare at the lilac fabric.
You sigh and pull the curtain shut. You strip away reluctantly. It’s all so surreal, you don’t want to believe it. You’re wary of the unusual good luck, the unearned generosity. Why would Mr. Laufeyson agree to this? And why would Frigga want to spend time with you, a maid wearing a title beyond her means?
“Darling, are you ready?” Frigga calls through as her heels tap out her arrival.
“Almost,” you call back, shimmying into the purple overall as you try not to rumble the sleeves of the blouse.
You refuse to look at yourself before you face the curtain and brace yourself. You step out as Frigga waits patiently, sitting on one of the leather poufs with a pair of white loafer flats in her lap, little silver bows clasped by the toe.
“Oh my,” she gasps as she rises, “oh darling, that’s… that becomes you. Oh,” she nears and hands you the shoes, “put these on then. Let’s see the whole look.”
Like most things in life, you let her bowl you over. You just go along with what you’re told. You go through the motions numbly, waiting for it to be over.
You bend to slip into the shoes one at a time. Once you stand, she ushers you around to face the mirror. She squeezes your shoulders before playing with your hair, setting you straights as she stands behind you.
“Look at you, darling,” she purrs.
You falter as you see the woman staring back at you. That’s you! You can hardly see yourself under it all. You press your hands to the skirt, wishing for a few more inches, and squeak the soles on the floor as you shift awkwardly in the stiff leather.
“This is it. It suits you so well. Sharp collars, cinched here,” she touches your waist, “I think we have a good start.”
“Um, thanks, but er…”
“You can wear that out. It’s a lovely outfit for lunch,” she insists, “but I’m thinking a few boucle jackets, some matching skirts, a splash of pastel,” she rambles on dreamily, “pearls, of course, maybe some rose gold…”
Your brow pinches over your nose. You don’t know what to do. You can’t say no and even if you were brave enough to, you don’t think she’d hear you. She’s like her son, that way. She only sees what she wants and there’s no denying her.
“Oh, thank you so much for humouring me,” she drawls, “you know, ever since the divorce, I’ve been terribly lonely.” You’re startled by her sudden shift. You blink at her, “my own daughter was never one for the shops, at least, not with me but Sif… she… well, c’est la vie.”
“I… I’m sorry.”
“Why? Oh, don’t apologise, it is me who should,” she laughs at herself as she leads you back into the shop room, “to you and your own mother. I have accosted her daughter!”
You nod and seal your lips. You feel the pluck in your chest. You distract yourself with a nearby dress; it’s beige and boring.
“I hate to overstep but Loki did mention your father is sick. I’m certain it can’t be easy,” she hums, “it never is. You and your mother–”
“My mother…” you pipe up, voice cracking. You shake off the wave of dizziness and sigh, “my mother is dead.”
“Oh dear, I’m so sorry,” she touches her chest, “dear me, I didn’t know. I shouldn’t have–”
“I’m not upset. I never knew her,” you shrug and move on to a more colourful dress. “Just me and dad.”
“Well, it’s nice you have each other,” she says.
“Yeah,” you agree dully.
She’s quiet as she browses beside you, sifting through hangers. Tension ripples between you. Neither of you know what to say.
“How about this?” She holds up a satin blouse in a dainty shade of rose, “it would compliment your complexion.”
“Um, sure,” you let the thickness in the air slake away, “I… I’m not picky.”
“Oh, darling, you are too agreeable,” she teases, “you best not let my son play on that. He could always hear a no or two, yes?”
You nod, uncertain what she means. He’s your boss, you don’t tell him no. He doesn’t ask for your input. He just says and you do. That’s why you’re here. He needed a toy to give his mother, and you’re playing along.
🧹
The restaurant is just as resplendent and upscale as the shops. You try to keep stride with Frigga as she struts up to the open doors, a hostess standing behind a podium just outside as the sunlight beams down in a mid-afternoon haze. She smiles at the elder blonde as she greets her with enthusiasm.
“Good afternoon, we were hoping for a table outside,” Frigga declares.
“For two?” The hostess asks as she looks down at the tablet in front of her.
“A bigger table, please, we have someone joining us,” she answers.
“Great, we can fit you in,” the woman assures and waves you through the small gate of the patio.
She takes you to a table near the colourful flower beds and offers the drink menu. Frigga thanks her and sits as you mimic her. You do your best not to fidget despite the persistent displacement zinging through your nerves. She browses the menu and taps her groomed fingernail on the table.
“Is it too early for Zinfandel?” She wonders.
“Oh, I don’t… know,” you put your own menu down, content with a glass of cranberry juice.
“Or perhaps a white?”
You shrug. You don’t drink. You never have and never really thought of trying it. You rub your cheek and look around, squirming at the other diners in their carefree conversations. What are you doing here?
A new server approaches and takes your orders. Frigga gets her wine and you murmur your request for a glass of juice. You hand over the menus and she checks her slender golden watch.
“Mm, I did say two,” she tuts and takes out her phone.
It’s almost amusing to see someone disappointed in Mr. Laufeyson. To be on the other side of the table. You’re not the one rushing to meet a deadline for once. You twiddle your hands in your lap and peer around at the din.
A table of women sit with cocktails and green salads, gabbing loudly. They are probably your age. Friends. Something you never had. Probably never will.
“Mother,” a voice proclaims across the patio and you wince. It’s familiar but not the timbre you expected. Maybe it’s a coincidence.
“There you are,” Frigga stands and you turn to look over your shoulder at the burly blond. Oh.
You rise too, not wanting to seem rude. Thor hugs his mother and kisses the top of her head, “I was caught behind an accident,” he explains, “oh,” he faces you, “and who… it is the little maid!” He takes you by the shoulders and you flinch as he bends to kiss your cheek, “you remember me, yes?”
You can only nod as you wriggle out of his grip. You resist the urge to wipe your cheek.
“Maid! Do not call her that,” Frigga chides as she sits.
You lower yourself back to your seat. Thor drags out the chair next to you and you try not to show your discomfort. He is almost too wide for the seat as his thigh presses to yours.
“I never got a name, you know? Brother hides everything away,” he sniffs, “so forgive me,” he leans as he tries to look you in the face, “a proper introduction is in order; I am Thor, you recall, hm?”
You nod again and eke out your name. He offers his large hand and you hesitate to take it. You won’t be rude though. His grip swallows your hand up, tight and unyielding. When he finally releases you, you let out a slow breath and stare at the table.
“Speaking of,” Frigga remarks, “he is late.”
“Not surprising, he can hardly be bothered to leave his cave,” Thor scoffs, “what a nice colour.”
He touches the button on your dress and you squeeze your legs together, trying to sidle away without being obvious.
“Thanks,” you murmur.
“Oh, we had a wonderful day shopping,” Frigga supplies, “she’s so sweet.”
“Ah, yes, I’m certain father will be happy to hear you had a spree,” Thor chortles.
“What he doesn’t know…” Frigga giggles.
The server returns and sets down the stemmed glass of dark wine and your juice. Thor orders rye as you lean forward to sip, the tangy flavour tautens your cheeks. You feel your chair shift and sit back, only to meet the curl of his fingers on the back rest. He doesn’t draw away, his leg splaying wider to touch yours again.
“So we are waiting on him?” Thor challenges and slaps his stomach with his other hand, “I’m starving.”
“We’ll give him another ten,” Frigga girds, “perhaps he is also stuck in traffic.”
“Not to worry,” Thor booms, “we can have fun without him, eh. Probably more.”
“Oh, don’t,” Frigga reproaches, “this is supposed to be a nice family meal, you will not start with him again.”
“It wasn’t me. He’s the one who stormed out–”
“Enough,” she interjects, “we are moving past it.”
“I’ve moved on,” Thor insists, “mother, really, I am not the one who keeps picking fights.”
“Mmm,” Frigga purses her lips, “nor do you discourage them.”
“Me?” Thor feigns innocence, his fingertips brushing the back of your collar, “I only said hello and he went out of his mind.”
“Um,” you sit forward, knocking the table slightly, “er, I… is there a bathroom?”
“Oh, yes, darling,” Frigga turns to you as if only then recalling your presence, “just through the front door to the right.”
“Thank you,” you stand, “sorry, uh, excuse me.”
You turn and scurry off, clutching the sides of the dress to keep it from riding up. Once you get inside, you roll your shoulders, trying to shake off the sensation of his touch. You reach back to tug at your collar.
It’s peculiar to think, but you hope Mr. Laufeyson gets there soon.

Y/N sighed in relief as she left her last class of the day, closing her eyes momentarily and thanking that classes always ended early on Friday, before walking again, heading towards the Starbucks on the college campus.
A smile spread across her face when she saw her group of friends already waiting for her at their table, Julia already holding her usual, Caramel Machiatto.
"Oi meninas! (Hi girls!)" Y/N spoke with a smile in her voice, pulling out the reserved chair for herself, hanging her bag on the back of it, and sitting on the seat.
"Oi gatinha, como foi Direito Constitucional? (Hi kitty, how was Constitutional Law?)" Gabriela, who sat on her left, asked as Julia passed the drink to Y/N, who thanked her with a wink before taking a sip.
"Foi um porre, o professor adora pegar no meu pé, mas pelo menos eu tirei nota máxima no trabalho. (It was horrible. The teacher loves picking on me, but at least I got a perfect grade on my work.)" Y/N rolled her eyes, snorting at the mention of her teacher.
"Eu sei exatamente o que vai levantar o seu astral. (I know exactly what will lift your spirits.)" Anna, the third and last girl in the group, spoke as she raised her right hand, receiving everyones attention. "Achei um barzinho incrível na Vila Madalena, álcool é a solução pros nossos problemas. (I found an amazing bar in Vila Madalena, alcohol is the solution to our problems.)" She finished, a smile on her face, she was their typical Happy Hour organizer.
Julia and Gabriela smiled equally big, nodding their heads. By Brazilian tradition, Happy Hour always took place on Friday, so they were already looking forward to the idea through all day.
"Bora, amiga? (You coming, bestie?)" Anna turned to Y/N, waiting for confirmation after not seeing her react like she usually did.
"Não vou conseguir, meninas. Vou pra LA hoje. (I can't make it, girls. I'm going to LA today.)" She replied, unable to contain a smile when she mentioned the city.
"Hmm, vai visitar o boy? (Hmm, are you going to visit your boy?)" Julia said with a smile, stirring her drink with the straw.
"Sim, fazem meses que não nos vemos e não aguento mais só falar com ele por Facetime. Comprei passagem para ir hoje, e volto na segunda-feira, infelizmente. Se eu faltar mais uma aula, eu me fodo. (Yes, we haven't seen each other for months, and I can't stand just talking to him on Facetime. I bought a ticket to go today, and I'll be back on Monday, unfortunately. If I miss one more class, I'll get fucked.)" Y/N explained, taking a sip of her drink.
Y/N and Matt met on one of the girl's trips to Los Angeles years ago when she was still in her gap year, she and her parents had a house in the city and always went there on every vacation.
Their first meeting was an unusual one, but it caused the two to exchange numbers, keep contact, and, consequently, fall in love.
Because Y/N is Brazilian, lives with her mother in São Paulo and studies law at Mackenzie, she needed to travel back and forth from Brazil to be able to see her boyfriend in LA, since she wanted to finish her studies in her country.
The two agreed to continue their relationship in a long distance, and surprisingly, they handled that format very well. Their love for each other only intensified every day, and they felt like they fell in love all over again every time they saw each other in person, always reminding themselves that distance gave them a reason to love harder.
"Você vai de carro até o aeroporto? Ou sua mãe vai te levar? (Are you going to drive to the airport? Or is your mom going to take you there?)" Gabriela turned to her, seeing her shake her head.
"Nenhum, eu vou de Uber. O vôo é às 12pm e minha mãe tem plantão no hospital hoje, e eu não quero deixar meu carro no estacionamento do aeroporto. (None, I'm taking an Uber. The flight is at 12 pm, and my mom has a shift at the hospital today, and I don't want to leave my car in the airport parking lot.)"
"Eu te levo, amiga. (I'll take you, babes.)" Julia interrupted. "Depois eu me arrumo e vou direto pro tal bar que a Anna achou. (Then I'll get ready and go straight to that bar that Anna found.)"
༻﹡﹡﹡﹡﹡﹡﹡༺
"Aproveita o seu boy e manda atualizações no grupo, eu quero saber tudo. (Enjoy your boyfriend and send updates to the group, I want to know everything.)" Julia spoke as she closed the trunk of her car, helping Y/N place her bags onto the airport cart.
"Eu prometo que vou atualizar vocês todos os dias. (I promise I'll update you every day.)" Y/N rolled her eyes playfully, smirking. "Obrigada pela carona, amiga. (Thanks for the ride, babes.)" She added, pulling Julia into a tight hug.
"Não precisa agradecer, só mandar o pix. (No need to thank me, just send the pix.)" Julia responded jokingly, laughing when Y/N slapped her arm.
"Idiota. (Jerk.)" Y/N rolled her eyes with a smile on her face, walking up the sidewalk and starting to push the cart with her bags.
"Também te amo! (love you too!)" Julia shouted as she got into her car.
Y/N quickly entered the airport, fishing her phone out of her jeans pocket and unlocking the screen, searching for her flight information. Her eyes read the boarding gate before putting her phone away again and pushing the cart to the check-in counter.
The process didn't take long, and soon, Y/N was able to sit in one of the chairs near her gate, taking out her phone again and unlocking it. Her thumb searched for the messaging app, opening it and seeing some chats with new texts.
The girl ignored all of them, as usual, and clicked on her mom's one, reading the latest texts.
"Honey, Matt sent me a text, he said that you haven't spoken to him all day and he is worried, thinking that you died."
"I said you had a test today at college and you couldn't use your phone during it."
"I think it's a good idea for you to send him a text before he's the one to come to Brazil."
Y/N pressed her lips together, trying to hold back her laughter. They were both so dramatic.
The girl sent her mom a brief text letting her know that she was already at the airport and assuring her that she would talk to Matt.
Her thumb clicked the back button, and her eyes quickly found Matt's chat, seeing 10 new messages and 3 missed calls. Y/N rolled her eyes, not holding back a smile. She understood why he was so worried, since the two of them talked via messages and calls practically all day long, every day, her not sending anything other than a "good morning, my love" was worrying.
But it wasn't her fault that, after class, she had to go home quickly and pack her bags, which she obviously left to pack at the last minute.
Y/N briefly looked at the time, knowing that Los Angeles' time zone was different from Brazil's, before clicking the call button, waiting for her boyfriend to answer.
"Baby?" Matt's voice sounded on the other end.
"Hi my love, I'm sorry for not talking to you today. I had a test this morning, and I couldn't use my phone during it." The girl spoke, persisting in the lie created by her mother, as her eyes traveled across the space in front of her, seeing people walking back and forth with suitcases in their hands.
"It's okay, I was just worried." The boy spoke in a low tone. The sound of objects moving in the background echoed through the line. "How was the test? I'm sure you did well."
"It was-" Y/N looked up at the flight board, seeing that hers was taking off in 20 minutes, meaning they would soon announce it, and the girl would have to board. "It was great, baby. Honey, I need to go now, Julia is here at home doing some college work. I'll call you later. I love you, bye." She spoke quickly, cursing under her breath after hanging up the call.
She knew Matt would be sad about the way she acted, but she hoped that she going to LA would be enough for him to forgive her.

The sound of the plane pilot's voice coming through the speaker woke the girl from her sleep. Her eyes opened as her ears picked up the message that the landing would be made in a few minutes.
Y/N straightened up in her seat, her eyes going to the window on her side, seeing that the sky was almost completely dark. She took her jacket out of her purse, wanting to protect her bare arms from the cold of Los Angeles, since in Brazil was 40°C and here would be 9°C. She prepared her body for the thermal shock.
The shudder of the plane warned her that the landing was going to happen, her hands tightly gripping the arm rest as her eyes closed. She hated that feeling.
A few minutes later, passengers were allowed to leave. Y/N got up from her seat and grabbed her purse, following the line of people until she entered the airport. The girl unlocked her phone and saw that it was already 7 pm LA time. Her notification bar was full of messages from Matt, which made her heart sink. She could only imagine the anxiety her boyfriend was feeling.
Her eyes went over the last text he sent 10 minutes ago, warning her that he would film the car video with his brothers in 20 minutes. A smile spread across her face, her plan would work.
༻﹡﹡﹡﹡﹡﹡﹡༺
"Matt, get rid of that ugly face right now." Nick spoke from the backseat, leaning on the side of Chris's seat as he looked at Matt's side profile.
"No can do. He's naturally ugly." Chris said, letting out a laugh followed by a yell when Nick slapped his forehead.
"Shut up, dumbass. we all look the same."
The oldest leaned away at lightning speed when he saw Chris quickly turn around with an angry expression, his right hand raised, ready to hit Nick back.
"Hey, stop!" Matt said, placing his left arm between the two of them.
"Then get rid of that angry face." Nick ordered again, leaning against the sides of the front seats, meeting Matt's eyes in the rearview mirror momentarily.
"He's like this because his little girlfriend has been ignoring him all day." Chris said as he looked at the camera, smiling when he saw Matt cross his arms and sigh deeply.
The two of them didn't know what was going on between Matt and Y/N, or if anything was going on at all, but Matt had been frowning since that morning, walking around the entire house while cleaning up all the messes he put his eyes on.
Nick had asked him what happened at one point in the day, but Matt just said that Y/N was acting weird before turning his back to his brother, going back to cleaning the video game equipment in the living room.
A knock on the window on the passenger side made the boys jump in fright; Nick let out a scream, pushing his own body onto the seat behind Chris's, while Chris bent down and covered his head with his hands, as if that would protect him from whatever that was. Matt turned abruptly towards the door on his side, moving his upper half away from it, almost lying on top of the car console.
It took a few seconds for Matt to register that whoever was knocking on his window was his girlfriend. His blue eyes widened, and his mouth opened in a perfect O, his heart racing a mile a minute as he felt his hands shake slightly.
"Are you really going to leave me standing out here?" Y/N's voice sounded muffled as she took some steps back and smiled, her right hand hidden behind her back.
"Y/N!" Nick shouted, jumping into his usual seat and pulling on his door handle repeatedly while begging Matt to unlock it.
"Y-Y/N?" Matt whispered, still in disbelief, ignoring his brother completely.
"If you don't open that door right now and give your girl a good kiss, I'm going to hit you." Chris spoke after straightening up in his seat, fixing the beanie on his head. "Go!" He spoke loudly, pushing Matt, who seemed to finally wake up from his trance.
The brunette's right hand flew to the button to unlock the doors, clicking there before pulling the handle, opening his door with a thud.
Matt had never gotten out of his car so fast, his feet running a few steps until he reached Y/N, pulling her into his arms in a tight hug, lifting her a few inches off the ground and spinning her in the air, a loud laugh escaping his mouth as he closed his eyes, praying in his mind that this wasn't just a dream, but that if it was, that he never had to wake up again.
"Baby, I... you..." Matt pulled away slightly, shaking his head as he tried to process that his girlfriend was actually there, right in front of him. His blue eyes ran over Y/N's face and body, recording her image in his mind, despite already having it drawn, painted, and stuck in his soul. "You are here." He whispered, his eyes burning with tears.
"I'm here, baby." Y/N spoke in the same tone. "Oh my love, don't cry." Her eyes filled with tears as well, and a laugh escaped her lips. God, she loved him so much.
"So that's why you were ignoring me." Matt sniffled. His right hand went up to his face, passing them over his eyes, trying to stop the tears from falling.
"I'm sorry, sweetheart. I had to stop answering you for a while so I could prepare this surprise." She spoke, feeling her heart racing and butterflies in her stomach from the look in Matt's eyes. He looked so amazed. "But I have a present for you, as an apology." Y/N said slowly before taking her hand away from her back, showing the prettiest bouquet of tulips.
"Oh my-" Matt's eyes were wide, and his mouth was open, his heart freezing for a few seconds before speeding up like never before. Tears escaped his eyes without him even feeling them, while his cheeks burned with adrenaline. "This is for me?" He asked, perplexed.
"Of course, meu amor (my love). I saw it on the way here, and I thought: "Why not buy beautiful flowers for the prettiest boy in the world?"" She said softly, her eyes scanning his reactions closely.
"Thank you so much. I've never received flowers before." He sniffed, taking the bouquet delicately, as if any sudden movement could destroy it.
"They are so beautiful together." Chris commented a little away from them, his eyes also filled with tears. What they said was real. When a triplet cries, the other two cries as well.
Nick, who was next to Chris, nodded, a giant smile decorating his face as his hands held the camera, the lens focused on the couple, capturing the cute moment.
"This is true love, Y/N came all the way from Brazil just to see this idiot, and she brought flowers!" Chris continued to Nick in a low tone, not wanting to disturb the couple.
"At least now he'll be able to film today's video properly. He was worse than Grumpy from Snow White." The oldest triplet muttered from behind the camera loud enough for Matt to hear, letting out a laugh at the dirty look he gave him.
"Yes, but he's my Grumpy." Y/N spoke up, receiving grunts of disgust from Chris and Nick and a laugh from Matt.
The brunette took his free hand to Y/N's cheeks, pulling her lightly for a kiss, the first of that night. A contented sigh escaped the girl's mouth, who instantly relaxed and brought her hands to Matt's covered waist, squeezing the hoodie over her fingers while feeling like fireworks exploded inside her.
"Ew guys, that's enough love for one night." Chris said, covering his and Nick's eyes playfully.
Y/N pulled away from Matt, unable to contain her laughter, finally turning to the other two brothers.
"I think you have a video to film, don't you?" She asked wryly, smirking as she saw Chris roll his eyes and raise his arms in surrender, as if he hadn't been crying just seconds ago.
Nick turned, walking back to the car to put the camera in its place, and Chris followed, getting into the back seat next to the one Nick sits.
"I'll demand my hug later, Y/N." Nick shouted from inside the driver seat, trying to balance himself on it as he fiddled with the camera's focus.
"What do you think about being our guest on today's video?" Matt hugged her from behind, securely holding the bouquet, while resting his head in the crook of Y/N's neck, breathing in the scent of his girlfriend's perfume that he missed so much.
The girl smiled, even though he couldn't see it, stroking his left hand that rested on her waist while nodding her head.
Their fans would go crazy.

Can u write abt Reader that doesn't know how to cuss and swear cuz she thinks that's rude and one day she asks Ellie to teach her. I just wanted to know how she would react to Reader's a.k.a her girl's request. Thank you~
hi my sweet angel baby yes i absolutely can here you go honey— it’s highkey shit but -!
~
you weren’t big on swearing: raised by two very christian, very strict parents, you learned to view it as rather crude, and if anything, unnecessary.
ellie’s heard it all, seeing as she’s spent nearly every waking moment by your side, and been graced with an exceptionally dirty potty-mouth.
“language, ellie!”
“watch it, els.”
“that’s so not nice of you to say, ellieeee.”
she’s gotten used to your mother like reprimands, finding them merely adorable at this point rather than chiding.
this, quite consequentially, has led her to actually swear more around you, eager to make herself victim to your frustrations.
“what a little bitch. dumb fucking cunt is hacking the stupid ass server for fucking no reason,” she’d argue with her screen.
“ellie!” you’d wind the corner, coming in to whack her across the head, knocking her headset down. “don’t say that!”
she’d swivel in her chair to shoot you an amused smirk, crossing her arms. “okay, mom, you gonna wash my mouth with soap now or something?”
“don’t be weird els, i’m just saying, you don’t have to use those words!”
“what words?”
“those ones!”
“mmm, sorry babe, i don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“ellie! grow up!”
“yes, mommy.”
“now don’t be gross, els.”
“okay, okay, i’m stopping now.”
“you suck.”
“yeah, your mom’s clit.”
“oh my god ellie!”
yeahhhh that’s how most of your interactions would go. you don’t love her any less though. she’s your girl! and in all honesty— her colorful vocabulary can be its own kind of charming at times. ;))
anyways.
so, in your 18 years of friendship, she would’ve never expected this from you. like never.
the thought had festered in your mind all throughout the week, but it had only truly hit earlier this afternoon.
“what was that, babe?”
“can you teach me how to swear properly?”
for a second, ellie just stared at you, evidently appalled. then she burst out into laughter.
“pfffft, what?!?”
“ellie!” you whined, “it’s not funny, i’m serious.”
“god, you’re so fucking cute.”
“ellie.”
she chuckled, “seriously, it’s adorable. try: ‘fuck you, bitch.’”
“i can’t-“
“knew ittt”
“fuck you, you fucking bitch.”
a beat passes, the two of you sitting facing each other in silence, both entirely shocked by your words.
“i didn’t mean-” you stumble out, cut off by ellie’s sharp laugh.
“HA! you’ve been corrupted!” she says, weirdly gleeful.
“i take that back, i did mean to say that,” you cross your arms in attempt to look stern.
ellie’s not buying it. she pounces atop your lap to press a warm smile against your open lips, “mhm, sure you did.”

Part one
September 2026
"Cómo estas?" He says happily. (How are you?)
Elena only smiled, not knowing how to react. Her friend was not there but she still felt the pressure.
"Tas solita?" (Are you alone?)
"No, de hecho estoy con unos amigos, como estamos celebrando mi cumpleaños." (No, actually, I'm here with some friends celebrating my birthday).
"Joder, feliz cumpleaños." (Fuck, happy birthday).
He hugged her, that's when she noticed he's drunk.
"Tu estas solo?" (Are you alone?)
"No," he laughs. "Bueno, si." (Well, yes).
"Si o no?" She got serious
"Fernando se enojo conmigo, peleamos y se fue. Entonces me quedé porque conoci a John, es un tipazo, quieres conocerlo?" (Fernando got mad at me. We got into a fight, and he left. So, I stayed and I met John, he's an awesome dude, wanna meet him?)
"Quieres que te lleve a tu hotel? Estás ebrio Pedro" she grabbed his arm, taking him outside at a little table that was alone. (Do you want me yo take you to your hotel? You're drunk).
"No, tu estas celebrando." He says laughing. "Te invito a un shot por tu cumpleaños." (No, you're celebrating, let me buy you a shot for your birthday).
He grabbed her hand and took her back inside. She was worried about him. He used to not drink until getting drunk unless he was with friends or people he trusted. He was alone.
"Two shots," he shouted at the bartender.
"Pedrito," Elena called his attention. "Luego del shot nos vamos a tu hotel, si?" (After this, we're going back to your hotel, okay?)
He nodded, his shot glass and yours making noise as they made contact.
"Esperame acá, por favor." She sits him at the bar chair. "Pete, hand me a bottle of water, and charge the shot onto my tab." (Wait for me here.)
She hurried to her table, explaining to her boyfriend and friends the situation. Her boyfriend gave her the car keys.
"Pedro, puedes darme tu telefono y cartera?" (Pedro, can I have your phone and wallet?)
The state he's in makes him obey your order.
"Pete, how much he owes?"
The bartender prints the check.
Elena almost fell back when she noticed he owned more than twenty thousand.
"Pedro! Por qué pediste cinco botella de champaña y dos de tequila?" (Pedro! Why did you order five bottles of champagne and two tequila ones?)
He only laughs, not caring about it.
"Voy a pagar, no tienes algo que ir a buscar? Ya nos vamos." (I'm paying, you need to get anything from your table?)
"Noup," he says as a little kid.
Elena handed the bartender his card, paying the crazy bill. She knows that John dude probably ordered most of that.
"Vamos, Pedrito" (Let's go, Pedrito).
He takes her hand and let her guide him.
"Me cago, los putos paparazzi." (Fuck it, the fucking paparazzi.) Elena says, mad about the whole crowd. "Pedro, vamos a salir y correr hasta mi carro, si?" (Pedro, were getting out and running to my car, okay?)
He nodded, not caring.
When the security guy opened the door, the flashing from the cameras didn't wait to capture the moment, the same guard helped you making space.
Holding harder into his hand, Elena starts running. Pedro did the same as he laughs, finding the whole thing funny.
Once they reached the car, she opened the door for him, seeing his stage. Elena made a mental note to thank her boyfriend for the dark tinted windows.
"Desbloquea tu celular." (Unlock your phone).
"Por qué?" He's in that stage where he's acting like a toddler.
"Pedrito, por favor."
"Noup" he laughs
"Por la que te parió, Pedro González Lopez desbloquea el teléfono, tengo que llamar a tu hermano" She says angrily. (For fucks sake, Pedro González Lopez, unlock the phone, I have to call your brother.)
He unlock his phone and hand it back to her.
She goes quickly to the phone and calls his brother, easy to find as it is basically named "Fer Hermano"
One, two, three calls and Fernando didn't answer.
So she decide to call him from her own phone.
"Hola?" Fernando says. "Hola?"
"Fer, Hola." She says happy, relieved he picked. "Soy Elena, me recuerdas?" (Fer, Hi. It's Elena, do you remember me?)
"Elena," he laughs. "Tu prima y yo estamos juntos, claro que te recuerdo, más porque estuvimos cenando juntos hace un mes." (Your cousin and I are dating, of course I remember you, especially because we had dinner a month ago together.)
She feels the blush creeping her face.
"Era una prueba. Y pasaste." (It was a test, you passed).
"Aja, que sucede?" (Mhm, what's going on?)
"Tengo a Pedro en el asiento del copiloto, borracho, dice que estaban juntos." (I have Pedro on the passenger seat. He's drunk and says you two were together.)
"Eras tu llamando desde su celular?" (It was you calling?)
"Si, idiota." (Yes, idiot.)
He stayed silent, Elena only heard his breathing.
"Dile a Fer hola por mi." (Say hi to Fer)
"No, ponte el cinturon." (put your seat belt on).
"Estamos en el Midland," Fernando says, hearing her brother getting scolded by Elena.
"Bien, estamos algo cerca, llegare en un rato."
She hang up without waiting for him.
The trip to the hotel was fast due to the time. It was past one in the morning. Pedro was answering some text messages, he was quiet.
Once she made it, she asked for permission to enter the parking since the guard was a fan of Barça, he agreed.
Elena helped Pedro reach the lobby and then his room.
"Si sabes que mañana estaremos en las noticias, verdad?" He asks. "Lo siento, te hice dejar tu cumpleaños." (You know we're going to be all over the news, right? I'm sorry I made you leave your party).
She only nodded, smiling at him. He was so different. He has big bags under his eyes, and he looks tired.
"Venga, te voy a buscar ropa limpia, date un baño." She lightly pushed him towards the bathroom. "Quieres algo de comer? Te pediré algo." (I'll get you some clean clothes, go take a bath. Are you hungry? I'll order you some food).
"Te quedaras a comer algo conmigo?" He asks, looking at her. (Will you stay with me for a bite?)
Elena knew she shouldn't. She knew you wouldn't be okay with that, but she felt bad for him. She knew about his baby, and he didn't. He was losing it. And you weren't.
"Si, me comprarás a un pedazo de pastel." She says laughing. (Yes, you'll buy me a piece of cake).
She went to his luggage, picked a normal t-shirt and some exercise shorts.
"Hi, I want to order some food." She says on the phone. "Room 626, I want to order a club sandwich, a very black coffee with no sugar, please."
She says thank you as the lady confirmed the order for the room.
When Pedro was done, she waited outside for him to get changed.
"Elena, pasa ya." (Elena, come in).
Just in time for the room service to arrive with the food.
"Y tu pastel?" Dijo un ya más sobrio Pedro. (Where's your cake?)
"No había, pero no importa, te voy a robar patatas." (They didn't have none, it's okay, I'll have some of your french fries.)
They ate and have a nice talk, Elena showed him the tweets about them, and they laughed at some of the comments.
Tumblr media
"Cómo esta ella?" Pedro asked. That question was burning his brain out. (How is she?")
"Esta bien, trajando duro, hace un rato no hablamos. (She's fine, working hard. We haven't seen each other).
He nodded. Staying silent.
"Bueno, ya comimos, ya estas listo para dormir, estarás bien?" (Well, we ate, and you're ready for bed, will you be okay?)
He nodded.
"Gracias, por todo, por cuidarme, por traerme, por asegurarte que comiera, por todo." (Thank you, for everything, for taking care of me, for bringing me back, for making sure I eat)
"No digas gracias, tu y yo hemos sido amigos por años Pedro, pero por favor, no te juntes con curros llamadas John, te has gastado una buena pasta en el bar y nisiquiera fue para ti." (Don't say thank you. We've been friends for years now, but please don't hang out with dudes named John. You spent good money at the bar, and it wasn't on yourself).
He laughed but agreed.
Elena helped him with the plate and cups. She filled a glass of water and left him two pills for his hangover tomorrow.
Once she's back to the club, she texted you, sending you the tweet and explaining everything. She believes you'll be mad with her.
But you weren't, you didn't thank her but you did say that you appreciate her taking care of him.
Even when you decided that you didn't want to inform him about your baby, you would never wish anything bad to happen to him, no matter the rumors, the girls, nothing. You loved him, and he was the father of your baby.
You dismissed Elena, texting her to go back to partying and to drink in your honor.

October 2026
You were ready for your baby to come to this world.
Paulo was so excited about that. He helped you with the nursery, and even his girlfriend was there. He couldn't wait to be a uncle.
"Te sigue doliendo?" Eliza, the girlfriend of your brother, asks you. (Still hurts?)
You knew you shouldn't eat too much. You already were uncomfortable with he swelling and being tired all day. But here you're, with stomach pain because you decide to eat three taco bell burritos.
"Solo es el dolor momentáneo." (It's the slight pain).
Eliza looks at your actions, and without telling, she pays attention to the time. Just to make sure.
"Te traeré agua." (I'll bring you some water).
Your parents and brother were outside, having some dinner, while Eliza and you were enjoying a movie.
The pain came back exactly twenty minutes later. "Me arrepiento de ese burrito." (I regret that burrito).
"Ahora vuelvo." Eliza says, leaving the room.
She messages Paulo, telling him that she believes you're in labor. Explaining that the stomach pains were contractions, but she didn't say anything because she didn't want to make you nervous.
Paulo and your parents arrived quickly. When you describe the pains to your mom, she explained you're in labor.
She helps you pick everything you need and puts you in the car. Once you arrive at the hospital, thank goodness your mom has everything ready, and they let you in quickly.
"Yo quería que naciera en Barcelona, como nosotros." (I wanted him to be born in Barcelona, just like we did.) You say to Paulo.
"Tranquila, ser Italiano no es tan malo." (Relax, being Italian is not that bad).
"Ay callate, lo sé" you laugh (oh shut up, I know).
You were thankful for the birthing process. The pain was light.
The doctor who was taking care of your full pregnancy and the one who was going to help with the delivery walks into the room.
She checked you and explained that you're ready to push. Paulo left, and your mom took his place.
You can't help the sad feeling. She was supposed to be there, yes, but he was also supposed to be next to you, holding your hand, saying sweet words while you push his baby.
But he wasn't, and that's something you wanted. You needed to remind that.

March 2027
"No puedo, me rindo." Elena says. "Cómo lo haces?" (I can't, I'm giving up. How you do it?)
"Lena," you laugh. "Es un pañal." (It's a diaper).
"No puedo, ya voy tres y no puedo." (I can't, I've used three, and I can't).
You laughed at her being mad about not knowing how to change the baby, even after you slowly showed her, not once, not twice, how to do it.
You baby was beautiful. He looked like the perfect combination between Pedro and you.
He has his long lashes, his lips, his eyes, but your nose, your eyebrows, and thank God his hair.
"Sé que me odiaras por preguntar." Elena says. "Pero, en serio no quieres que él sepa? Te la pasas diciendo "el cabello de papá, los ojos de papi." Pero, no te parece que él merece saber sobre su hijo y Polo merece saber sobre su padre? Ahora puede ocultarlo pero en unos años cuando Polo pregunté que diras? "Lo siento bebé, no tienes." O que excusa diras?" (I know you'll hate me for asking, but do you really want to keep this a secret? You keep saying, "Daddys hair, Daddys eyes," but, don't you think he deserves to know about his son? And don't you think Polo deserves to know his father? When he asks you, what will you say? "Sorry baby, you don't have one," or what excuse will you use?)
You stayed silent. You knew he deserved to know. Pedro and you talked about having kids, how many and how you were taking them to the stadium for his matches, with the little "Papi" on their backs and his number.
"Yo entiendo tus motivos, pero no puedo callar lo que pienso, soy tu amiga y siempre te he dicho las cosas claras, la estas cagando Y sé que tus padres apoyaron tu idea, incluso y aún que lo niegues se que tu madre te dio esa idea. Pero vamos, ustedes no tienen que volver, solo déjalo saber." (I understand why you did it, but I can't keep being silent. I'm your friend and I've always told you the things straight, you're fucking up. And yes, I know your parents supported the idea of you keeping it from him, even if you tell me it's a lie. I think your mom gave you the idea. But c'mon, you don't have to get back together. Just let him know).
You remain silent, fixing the diaper.
"No crees que Rosy y Fernando merecen ver a su nieto? No crees que Fer merece ver a su sobrino? No crees que estas siendo injusta?" (Don't you think Rosy and Fernando deserve to see their grand baby? Don't you think Fer deserves to see his nephew? Don't you think you're being unfair?)
After a while of the silence, Elena moves off the floor.
"Yo te amo, eres mi mejor amiga, mi hermana si quieres, pero esto esta mal. Tu lo sabes." She says, grabbing her stuff."No sé que te dijo tu mamá para que estés tan firme con esta idea, pero en serio piensa las cosas, tu hijo no tiene porque pagar por los errores que ustedes como pareja cometieron" (I love you, you're my best friend, my sister even if you like, but this is wrong and you know it. I don't know what your mom told you for you to be so stuck up into this, but please think twice. Your son is not the one to blame for the mistakes you and Pedro made as a couple).
You heard the front door, she was mad, and Elena is a very calm but electric person, and she was right. Even if you hate to admit it.
Tumblr media
"No, deja de pensar en tonterías." Your mom says. "Elena no entiende, ella no es madre. No le hagas caso." (No, stop thinking that Elena doesn't understand. She's not a mom, so don't pay attention).
"Mami, pero tiene razón." (Mommy, but she's right).
"Claro que no, que quieres? Que Pedro te quite al niño? Porque es es lo que estas buscando." (Of course not, what do you want? For Pedro to take you to court and take your son away? Because that's what you're looking for).
"Pedro no seria capaz, no digas esas cosas." You say in a serious tone. "Pedro no es así, deja de querer dejarlo en mal." (Pedro would never do that. Don't say that. He's not like that. Stop trying to make him the bad guy).
"Okay, y/n. Entonces haz lo que quieras, toma." She hands you the phone. "Llámalo, pero cuando te quite al niño no vengas llorando a pedir ayuda." (Okay, do whatever you want, here, call him, but when he takes the baby away, don't come back crying for help).
You shake your head.
"Mami, pero Elena si tiene razón, Rosy y Fernando tienen los mismos derechos que ustedes, como te sentirías si yo no te dejara ver al bebé?" (Mommy but Elena is right, Rosy and Fernando have the same rights as you two. How would you feel if I denied you to see my son?)
"Bueno, ya te dije. No vengas llorando cuando él se quiera quedar con tu hijo." (Well, I already told you, don't come back crying when your son is taken away from you).
"Puedes parar! Pedro no es así, no haría eso." (Can you stop, he's not like that, he wouldn't).
She only breathes deep and gives the baby a kiss goodbye. "Haz lo que quieras." (Do whatever you want).
She left angry at you.
You don't know what to do. You think about it, and the words of your mom scare you. Deep down, you know he would never try to take your baby away. But as a new mom, these insecurities that you never had before are now raising.
"Tranquilo Polito, déjame pensar bien las cosas, si? Estoy nerviosa, no sé que hacer, tu tía Elena tiene razón." You say bouncing the baby on your arms. (Don't worry, Polito, let your mother think everything. I'm nervous, I don't know what to do, Auntie Elena is right).
You like to speak with him, even when he couldn't answer, he just listened and looked at you with those beautiful honey eyes.
"Mira, no le digas a nadie, pero tu abuela me asusta, y yo sé que papi jamás haría algo de lo que ella dice. Sabes algo? Papi tiene un corazón tan puro, es muy amable, y estoy segura que te va a amar incondicionalmente." (Look, don't tell this to anyone, but grandma scares me. And I know daddy would never do anything she's saying. You know, Daddy has such a pure heart, he's so kind and I'm sure he'll love you unconditionally).
You smile at the way he's looking at you, so focus on your words.
You think for a while, and remember the email you got. A work offer in Barcelona. The company you work for is opening a new business in Barcelona and asked you to be the head of them, since you used to live there and you know the language.
"Sabes, tal vez tu tía esté loca, pero tampoco digas eso, si? Eso es entre mami y tu" you kiss him. "Pero, razón no le falta mijo, y tus abuelitos merecen conocerte, tu abuela Rosy va a amarte tanto. Sobre todo tu tío Fer, te va a querer vestir como él, pero no como tu tío Paulo, Tío fer tiene un estilo totalmente diferente, te gustará." (You know, maybe Auntie Elena is crazy, but don't say that. That's between Mommy and you. She's crazy but right, your grandparents deserve to know you. Oh, your granny Rosy is going to be so in love with you and your uncle Fer. He will be head over heels for you. He will dress you like him, but not like Uncle Paulo. Your uncle Fer has a totally different style. You'll like it).
You put him to sleep and sat down, answering the mail with the decision of accepting the job. You know you want to go back, you know he'll be mad, but he's not taking him away.
You feel your phone vibrating next to you. It was a text from Paulo.
Tumblr media
("Look at what I just posted. Eliza told me to post it." "You posted where? Outside?" "Instagram, smart-ass. Also, send me a picture of Polito.")
You laugh at your brother, obsessed with your son.
Tumblr media
(One like and I'll stole him)
You laugh hard and like the post. Oh, you love your brother.
Your boss answered the email quickly, asking to talk with you tomorrow morning, wanting to give you all the details about the work.
You texted Paulo about babysitting Polo, and he immediately say yes.
You closed the laptop and walked over to the crib in your room. "Voy a hacer lo mejor para ti." (I'll do the best for you.)
Tumblr media
"We are so happy to have you as the new head for Barcelona."
"I'm happy too, I can't wait for this."
"And please, since you're basically working for the other location now, uses this time for the moving. If you need any help, please let me know, I'll help you with everything.
You shake hands with him and finish with the whole signing of the contract.
"Thank you, again. I'll do my best."
You say your goodbyes and excited for this, texted Elena, you needed her to know, after being the biggest cheerleader for this to happen. After you received the message, you called her, apologized, and asked her for advice.
A notification for Instagram takes you out of the chat, Paulo posted something and tagged you on it.
Tumblr media
(Petition for @/yourusername, to let me dress Polo forever).
You shake your head smiling, oh, to be Polo, so loved and always being shown off.
You were nervous, but you needed to do this. For yourself and for your son.
And even if you don't say it out loud, you were doing this for Pedro. For him and your son to be able to grow together, for him to hear his first words, see his first steps, and even be able to teach him some football.
"Okay, let's go home and pack." You say to yourself. "Barcelona, here we go."

WIP excerpt from the one where Krypton lives and Kara did not sign up for this.
Only Kal would manage to get his DNA stolen on a planet called “Earth”, of all the godsdamned stupid places.
Might as well just be named “The Planet” or something, she swears.
“All three it is,” Kara says, waving open her wall storage and grabbing her rice pot out of it. She only has the one because she's never had to cook for anyone else in her life, much less anyone who was staying with her, but she'll make it work.
Somehow.
Can't be any worse than pulling off mission-critical military maneuvers in shit conditions with untried and under-trained new recruits, she figures.
. . . though she is admittedly more prepared for that situation than this one, if it comes to it.
Look, that’s just experience, alright? She’s been on a thousand maneuvers and missions she didn’t have the resources for, but Kal doesn’t get cloned every day.
Well, at least not when he’s not on incredibly uncreatively named alien planets, anyway.
Kara dumps three times the usual amount of rice into her rice pot while Thirteen hovers just outside the kitchen and Match stands very, very still beside him. Neither of them says anything else, though Thirteen looks like he might want to. He seems to be the talker, from what Kara can tell.
Or at least, he’s the one they’ve designated to be the talker. He asks more questions, and sometimes Match looks at him like he’s expecting him to ask a question. Even if they don’t necessarily get along, they seem to be cooperating at least that much.
Well, it makes sense. They’re the only other successful Kryptonian-human clones that anyone’s aware of existing, and they know cloning is illegal on Krypton, and Kal isn’t here right now. Who else are they going to rely on when meeting a total stranger?
Even a total stranger who is, technically, family.
Or at least arguably, anyway.
Her house communicator plays a familiar identifying little melody as she’s juggling her spheres of katso sauce and dried spygin in one arm while trying to dig out the last couple of bly fruit she <i>knows</i> she had shoved in the back of her cold storage, which admittedly is a bit cluttered with premade meals right now. Or . . . always, pretty much.
In her defense, she really doesn’t cook very much. Or very well. Or . . . at all, really, when she can avoid it.
She’s a grown woman and a decorated general, alright? She doesn’t need to cook if she doesn’t want to.
“Accept call,” she instructs briskly, and the communicator’s holoscreen materializes to her side. Thirteen startles slightly; Match doesn’t so much as twitch. Doesn’t so much as breathe either, though, so she’s pretty sure he was startled too. At least, that’s the impression she’s been getting from the way he’s reacted to things so far.
Avoided reacting to things, more like.
“Oh, look who’s finally calling,” she says, eyeing Kal’s image on her projected screen. He looks just barely harried and the slightest bit sheepish, and she can see a dark-haired woman who’s presumably his new wife sitting behind him in his home office wearing peculiar clothing that is definitely not Kryptonian, but also doesn’t look nearly as indecent as what Thirteen and Match both showed up wearing. She seems occupied with a reader, and keeps activating and deactivating it like she’s never seen anything like it before.
So probably the wife, yes. Lois Kal-El, née Sam-Lane, according to Kal’s previous calls. Though he also says that humans have slightly different naming schemes than Krypton does. And apparently more varied ones than Krypton does, too.
Why Kal apparently made sure his grown wife was more appropriately dressed than the children were is beyond her, though.

There isn't much discourse about how Mike went from saying that El was a weapon in s1, even encouraging the others to use El's powers when she was still recuperating after finding Will in the void, to then in s3 accusing the others of being reckless with her powers, saying she's risking her life for no reason.
Now, I want to make clear that I'm not bashing Mike here, this has less to do with what he's doing being right or wrong. What this is about is how Mike went from doing something himself, to calling out other people for doing it, without acknowledging that fact and why the writers chose to frame it all this way.
You might think it's insignificant, but these two following scenes are clearly being paralleled to each other. And so the fact that Mike himself is acknowledging this as something to be critical of, makes me wonder what exactly is going on in his mind...
I want to preface this scene from s1 by saying that Mike is giving very off vibes here. I know that I certainly viewed this scene as romantic the first time I saw it, but since rewatching it recently, I was getting completely different vibes.
They literally make a point to focus on Mike being distracted, on the verge of impatience. Then, the way El reacts upon Mike getting up abruptly, gives this feeling of uncertainty about Mike's consideration for her in this moment, as she's clearly not what's on the top of his mind right now. And it just makes you wonder, are we truly supposed to be feeling peak romance rn?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I never realized how out of place this scene was until now (or is it...). It's just such an odd choice to have El resting her head on Mike's shoulder for comfort, only for Mike to cut it short with him being distracted, and with Dustin and El looking awkwardly at Mike like "Okay?...", then followed by a scene where he's trying to convince the others to use El's powers to help.
Here we have s1 Mike displaying behavior that s3 Mike was calling out the others for displaying:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here we have Lucas, who was very, very critical of El being dangerous ALL of s1, and yet now in complete contrast to that, he is showing more consideration and common sense for El's well being than Mike, the supposed love (at first sight) interest ...
'That's the most important thing, remember?'
A question, followed by Mike just standing there in silence, like he's only just now really thinking about El being safe as their main priority... This is something that combined with everything else unfolding over the course of this season and the seasons after, that makes Mike's behavior a whole lot easier to understand.
I'll have to make several other posts about this, because there are a lot of aspects to it, but for now I'm just going to focus on these two parallels.
Here we have what happens in s3, with Mike being critical of the others doing something he himself literally did in s1:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In fact, how careless all of you are.
THIS. When Mike makes it a big deal to call out everyone for doing something he himself has already done, he's outright admitting that it's something that he believes is wrong, and by not even slightly acknowledging his role in doing something similar in the past, it's very likely that he feels guilty about it.
This was probably his way of trying to make it right, by standing up for El in a way that he didn't before because he was treating her like some superhero and not a real person back then.
It's just that the word love slipped out, in the heat of the moment. And El, upon overhearing this, is seeing this development of Mike herself, with s1 Mike going from, yes being more kind and considerate than the other 2 boys in the beginning, but still sort of expecting stuff from her without her being able to verbally agree to it, to now having developed and changed to saying that one of his big priorities is her safety.
El is taking this as being evidence he went from not loving her, to loving her. Another reason why it's pretty obvious El didn't believe Mike's monologue, bc she herself witnessed Mike develop his apparent romantic feelings for her over time, and so him saying it was love at first sight, was probably the catalyst that made it abundantly clear to her that he wasn't being truthful, bc she knows it's not the truth. She's not stupid.
Again this isn't about Mike doing this back then or even the others doing it now as being bad vs. good, this is about the writers going about it this way, sending a message that Mike feels guilt, enough to try to make things right, but is apparently not ready to unpack the actual guilt that is beneath the surface which lead him to this point.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then there's this scene, which... it's actually terrifying how obvious it is they instructed Sadie and Caleb to lean out of that shot with Will and Mike reacting to El entering the room... Like... It's SOO obvious when you watch it now what they're trying to hint at without saying it.
Not only are they hinting at Will's feelings, because that is part of it, they're also hinting at Mike's internal struggle. Will is always on the back of his mind whether he's willing to address it or not. And all while that is happening, he is feeling unaddressed guilt about how he treated El when they first met and spent that one week together helping her run away from the bad guys while also looking for Will, something Mike viewed as being worthy of El using her powers...
I'll have to make the other posts regarding this soon, because it all starts to click what's going on with Mike when you look at all of these things together.
While Mike is just a kid like pretty much everyone else in this story, and while he didn't mean any harm by asking El to help them find Will (none of them did), I think that's kind of the whole point?
I think that he got lucky superman landed on his doorstep, who just so happened to be in danger herself, giving him his own purpose to help her too, with her needing him as well, and so it became a situation where they both needed each other.
But because El could literally not speak, it's not like she could really voice her feelings about things they were doing, beyond yes and no. She had Lucas sort of being critical of her, with Mike encouraging El to do things that would make the others see her as being worthy of sticking around so they can find Will. It goes without saying she felt obligated to do these things, even if they didn't outright tell her she had to or else. We literally see almost all of these scenes with her doing stuff for the others being instantly juxtaposed with scenes of Brenner doing the same. It's not the same scale of severity, but it is an acknowledgment that although she is outside of the lab, she still feels like her powers are what define her and it's all people want from her.
I think what it comes down to, is that in that moment when she is sacrificing herself to the demogorgan at the end of s1, we are seeing in real time Mike realizing what he and the other's have been asking of her this whole time, without outright asking her.
And you can literally see the retaliation and devastation hit him all at once. The instant regret, where he's backtracking and El stops him from even trying.
'Goodbye Mike' singles him out, because while he was the one out of the three that showed her the most kindness from the start, he was also the one who at the end of it all, was still expecting her to risk her life for them...
And that just makes it hit so much harder when you think about how that made Mike feel in that moment.
And then in s2 how that impacts Mike and his journey going forward.
His breakdown at the end of s2 upon her return.
His behavior in s3-4, in relation to him juggling his relationship with Will and El, now that they are both in his life at the same time.
It all starts to make sense.
I won't go too much into it because those other posts are bound to be long with a bunch of pictures too!
But on that note, there's at least one thing Mike isn't acknowledging, and it's literally what led up to the unintentional love confession that then led us to 10 more episodes of miscommunication because of it...
It's going to be important for him to address this guilt for him to fulfill his arc and to also close off his expectations that he has to have a romantic relationship with El in order to keep her in his life at all.
The audience themselves seeing this and being forced to face it is also going to make it a lot easier for them understand why Mike did what he did, not only because he's a queer kid in the 80's who has every reason to doubt and repress, but also because he understandably feels sort of indebted to El after everything.
It's more complex than him just falling out of love with her and falling in love with Will because of XYZ.
I think there is a lot of guilt and shame and trauma connected to their meeting and the events that followed. And addressing that is going to give a lot of closure to the ending of the story and also the beginning.
#byler#stranger things#mike wheeler#i feel like mikes arc always comes off as convoluted to most viewers bc they’re missing the whole picture#like this is literally canon#Mike went from doing something to saying other people doing it was wrong without acknowledging his role in that from the beginning#and so ppl using that development as aww he loves her now…#doesn’t even work when apparently he loved her since the moment he saw her…#not being willing to pay attention to how they are building up mikes arc#dancing around all of his actions with#everyone makes mistakes bc they’re children and that’s okay#and just leave it at that…#bc yes obviously all of the characters should be able to make mistakes and be forgiven#but were ignoring the elephant in the room here#it’s canon Mike feels guilt for how he treated el in s1 yet he hasn’t acknowledged it…#instead of acknowledging his history of doing something similar#he’s pointed out everyone else doing it as if they’re doing something wrong he himself would never do…#as if he doesn’t have first hand experience#they could have actually made this moment romantic and genuine IF they wanted to#they could have had mike open up about how he used to do that#but after getting to know el and realize she is her own person#it made him think differently and he wants to do better by her#then maybe when she confronted him in front of everyone he could have said it again or asked to be alone to say it to her directly#and to apologize for how he acted in the past by expecting stuff of her#and THATS why he is extra cautious now#and then got her reaction#instead they give fans the impression Mike is the ideal male love interest#who is perfect for el#with this moment being one of their top reasons#and it’s a scene where he avoids confronting series long built up guilt…

I cannot tell you how loud I cackled when the card was revealed. One moment I was cooing at how cute this was and then I start straight up laughing at 2AM. The atrocious spelling of a child 🤣, i loved all of it! I'm wondering if the other kids notice Father's favoritism towards the reader, and how they would react? What if they bully Reader and Father steps up for Reader? 🤭 I love your characterization of Father in here. Much softer than canon which is what I needed.

would you like a new home? (pt 3.1)
Tumblr media
forethoughts: thanks for the compliments about part two! i didn't expect my silly love letter to arlecchino to blow up haha. i originally was going to write this as just one big part but i changed plans. part two is called would you like some cake! i also planned for part two to be the last one but i had to sneak one in to give reader and father a happy ending of sorts :)
notes: gn!child!reader, NOT AN X READER READER IS A CHILD IN THIS!!!
Tumblr media
You never cared about what the other children thought of you.
Father made sure you would never get hurt.
Father ensured that the very day she gave you your new toys.
Father said not to use the toys, only if I was being attacked then I could use them.
Father said not to show the other children your toys.
And you always listened to Father to the best of your abilities.
Well, you tried.
You were walking down the hall, admiring the small trinket Father had found you during one of her expeditions. It was a compass, Father said. You followed the red needle, a huge smile at your face as you watched it shift and move.
You held the compass dear to your chest, using two hands to hold each side. Your eyes were glued to the needle you didn’t even notice the leg that swept your shins, causing your grip on the compass to disappear as your body went sideways, landing on your arms.
Footsteps.
You got up before you could hear another thud, turning around. “Hey!” You exclaimed as one of the other orphans picked up Father’s gift, admiring it themselves.
“What? We were just interested in what you were holding, Y/N.” One of the other orphans snickered.
“Give it back.” You said, balling your fists. That was Father’s gift to you. Yours. Not theirs.
“Why? You have more gifts than us given by Father. Not having one more isn’t going to kill you, loser.”
Don’t attack. Don’t be quick to anger. Always seek out a compromise before arming yourself. Father’s words rang in your head.
You took a deep breath, blood boiling at the sight of the other orphan haphazardly tossing the compass around.
“What do you want?” You questioned, feet still spread apart.
“Don’t you get it, you stupid idiot? We want what you have.”
“You’ve never wanted anything from me.”
“Because you didn’t have anything we wanted.”
“What do you want now?”
“We want Father.”’
Your knuckles started to turn red as your hands fell to your sides. “What?”
“Don’t act like we don’t see how Father treats you. Always first to get food. Extra dessert. No curfew. Bigger room? Who do you think you are? You’re a nobody! You don’t even have friends! Why does Father treat you better than everyone else?!” The orphan shoved you back on the ground, pressing his foot against your head. You stared at the orphan. You couldn’t deny that his words did not hold truth to them. Father did ensure all of that. You never questioned why Father would show you more generosity and kindness compared to the other children. Yes, Father treated everyone equally. That was obvious before you went inside the armory that day. Father still treated everyone equally even after that. You just had… perks.
“I didn’t ask to have a bigger room and no curfew.” You retorted, trying to resist.
“But you have it. And we want that too. So go to Father and tell her you want a smaller room, last in line, no dessert, and an earlier curfew.”
“That’s not fair. I’m not going to do that.” “If you don’t do that, we’ll break the compass. And don't think about lying and saying you did it. We'll know.” The orphan dangled the compass with two fingers, close to the rim.
“Hey!” You gritted your teeth, hand slowly creeping towards the knife strapped onto your belt.
“Three…” The orphan sneered, digging his boot deeper into your hair, pressing your head into the ground.
“Two…” Your hand curled around the helm.
“One…”
Forgive me, Father.

No Regrets - Part Five
Part One🦇 Part Two🦇Part Three🦇Part Four🦇Part Five🦇Part Six
This beautiful fic cover you see below was made by the fantastic, wonderful and lovely @skepsiss <3 Thanks so much!!! I'm still crying about it.
Tumblr media
He jolts backwards, the burning in his chest hurts, it fucking hurts but- but it doesn't? He pulls in a deep, shaking breath and feels no pain.
"Steve?" Nancy asks from off to his right, so he turns to look at her. She looks concerned, and scared in a way he hasn't seen her in years. (Except it's not years, is it? Not anymore, or not right now?) "Are you okay?"
He shakes his head before digging his palms into his eyes. He's dying, dying, dying- he's dead, he has to be. The Storms are so toxic and he-
"Steve," Robin's voice is accompanied by her hands around his wrists. She pulls his hands from his eyes and he lets her. He blinks at her worried face. "Steve, what just happened?"
"I-I was. I think... give me a moment" Steve says. Robin nods once, a confirmation, but she doesn't move away or release his wrists.
He pulls in another deep breath and closes his eyes to think. He's trying to remember. He thinks he promised to explain everything after... after Pennhurst? Yes, he remembers. Promised that after Robin and Nancy got back from their trip to Pennhurst, he'd tell them everything he knows. It's... it is after, now.
It was yesterday that Robin and Nancy went to Pennhurst and spoke to Creel. They learned about Creel, and the music. They still got found out as fakes; Steve didn't remember what caused them to be discovered last time to be able to warn them against it this time.
He still ended up being bullied into driving Max around. This time, though, he already had an hour-long loop of Running Up That Hill in his car. They'd let Max go to speak to Billy alone, like last time. The boys paced around the car and this time, when they realize that Max isn't responding, Steve's already loading the tape into the cassette player. He shoves it into Lukas's hands and tells him to put it on Max, press play, and to not stop begging her to come back until she is.
Steve saw he had questions, but Max was more important. She floated, and fell, and Lucas had caught her. Then...?
Oh, right. Then, he did explain, yesterday evening, after everyone had crowded into the Wheeler's basement. Went over Vecna winning, Hawkins becoming ground zero for the apocalypse. Talks about a future with a lot of loss, but won't say who, as well as the slow decay of the air and earth. That you could breathe the air for small moments of time, but long exposure would make you sick. That even though they'd finally killed Vecna in 1989, too much damage had been done, too many gates opened, kept opening with every new death by demo-creature. El alone would never be able to close off all the gates. They were working on trying to create a reverse of the machine below Starcourt, meant to close gates instead of open, but the world would probably be a complete wasteland before they could complete it.
No one had reacted well to the news, but the yelling was a minimum, which had been a pleasant surprise.
In the end, Steve had told them they needed more people, more help. That he was going to tell Wayne about the Upside Down.
He opens his eyes, now, and looks around. The place is small, familiar almost. Wood paneling and- The Munson's home. They're in Eddie's home. Because last night Steve had come over. He'd come over and told Wayne everything because he couldn't do this again. Not alone, not as the only responsible adult.
The Wayne in the future had been so willing to help, when Hawkins ripped open at its seams, and Wayne in the present was the same. He didn't- he didn't even call Steve crazy. He'd said he believed Steve, that some government lady told him they were going to pay for him to be in a hotel since his home was an active crime scene, but Wayne'd refused. Eddie wouldn't know where to call when he got out, and what if he just showed up and Wayne was gone- well, Wayne found that unacceptable.
Now, Wayne should be his way back from Indy in Eddie's recovered van with the Byers and Mike, and they're here waiting on a call from Eddie.
Steve's not dying, or, he's not anymore? Or maybe he is, and this is just. What the end is like? Getting to put an end to your regrets or something.
Whatever. It doesn't really matter what or why or even how. He knows what is in store for the future if they don't stop Vecna today.
"Sorry, sorry. I'm back," Steve says, opening his eyes to look at Robin.
She scrunches her brow. "Back?"
"Back from the future," Steve gives her a lopsided grin and in return she squints at him, leaning in real close to his face like the closer she is the more of his mind she'll be able to read.
"You're a different Steve. Again."
"What?" Nancy asks.
"Again?" Steve asks.
Robin scrutinizes his face some more before backing off, just a few inches. "Yeah. It was- Saturday, when you just walked out of our shift after Dustin and Max showed up, you were different then. Not. It was- you know how we were just talking about how if only we could combine, our love life problems would be fixed?"
Steve does, but only after having to think about it for a moment. It was so long ago, but it wasn't. Not for the Steve he's replaced, not for Robin in front of him. "Yeah. I remember."
"It's like I didn't realize how much we'd already combined until we weren't anymore. It was like... like you were a completely different person. I thought it was just, maybe, a reaction to learning the Upside Down was back. But you got different. More haunted."
"You noticed a difference?"
Robin scoffs, "of course I did. You're you but it was. This whole week it's been like... each day brings a new you. With different quirks. Except yesterday was still all the same old-new you so I thought- I thought maybe we'd succeeded. Fixed whatever it was that needed changed because you hadn't changed. But we haven't yet. 'Cause you're back."
Steve shakes his head. "No. No, we haven't. But this time- we'll have the manpower."
"No, I mean, I just-" Robin huffs, falling back onto her butt rather than staying in an uncomfortable crouch. "I just noticed, is all."
"Are we making it better," Nancy asks, "or worse?"
Steve looks from Robin to Nancy. "I-I don't know."
"What do you mean you don't know?"
"I mean I don't know. I don't- I don't know what we've changed. Or if it's been for the better. Because I don't remember."
"Oh," Nancy says with a nod, the look on her face morphing to one Steve knows means she's working out the puzzle of it all. He'll leave her to it.
His attention turns back to Robin, who has her head tipped back, looking at the unopened gate on the roof of the trailer. It definitely cannot be mistaken for water damage anymore. "What are you thinking about?"
Robin tips her head back down to look at Steve. "Exactly that."
"What?"
"Sorry," she says with a frown, "I was just thinking about how we can't- we don't really read each other's minds anymore. I know we should be worrying more about the end of the world but I'm just, just being selfish. Worrying about our friendship."
"You are the only constant in my life, Robin Buckley," Steve confesses, a fierceness to his tone he doesn't even recognize. "You have been, and always will be, the person I need in my life to bother even living it. I swear to God, Robbie, that if anything ever happens to you, I will walk into traffic."
Robin lets out a laugh. "That's a bit extreme."
Steve shoots Nancy a look; he can see she's in her own world. He stands then, offering a hand to Robin to pull her up. "Come on. I have something to tell you. A soulmate secret."
Robin's eyes light up with delight and he pulls her from the ground before leading her to the only place they can get privacy. Eddie's room.
It's two steps into the room that Steve realizes he's never seen Eddie's room before. Or, if he had, the memory of it is lost with the time line it happened in. In Steve's memory, the front half of Eddie's home gets obliterated, and when Eddie and Wayne went back to gather the things that survived the gate opening, Dustin, Mike, and Lucas had gone with the help pack it up. Steve had been helping fortify the high school.
It seems ridiculous, to be hit with the thought of never having seen Eddie's room, with the threat of the apocalypse still looming.
"Alright, secret time," Robin sounds delighted, and her voice pulls him from his thoughts. She shuts the door and turns, eyeing the bed skeptically. "Hmm, standing room only I think."
Steve huffs out a laugh as he takes in the mess of a room, a room that looks lived in and shows Eddie's personality and the things he cares about. Nothing at all like his own room at the Harrington house; perfectly clean and matching and devoid of anything distinctly Steve. "Like you ever make your bed."
The noise Robin makes is clearly offended, and she smacks his arm lightly with the back of her hand, "uncalled for! Unprovoked, even!"
"Yeah, well, you're judging a guy who's been in jail this past 48-ish hours. Not like he had time to tidy up," Steve says.
"I think the state of his bed -whole room, really- is not because he didn't come home to clean up. In fact, I think he just lives like this."
"At least his room looks lived in. I mean, look at all of this on the walls. You think he drew these?" Steve says, hand reach out to brush against a drawing tacked to the wall nearest him.
"Your room could look lived in, too, if you weren't afraid of a few tack holes," Robin replies, crossing the room. Steve watches her go, approaching the mirror and the guitar mounted in front of it. She examines the guitar before picking up the red yoyo atop the amp.
"And here you were worried about not being able to read my mind anymore."
She turns to him and gives him a quick, genuine smile before turning her attention back to the yoyo. "So, what's the soulmate secret? You really good with a yoyo?"
"What? No. I didn't even know that was in here," Steve says.
"I thought you knew the future," Robin teases as she gets the yoyo to successfully fling from her palm and back into her grasp. She makes a little pleased noise before she creeps around the room, gawking at all of Eddie's things.
"I know one, specific future that we are trying to change, if you'll remember. I didn't know you could yoyo."
"Neither did I- oh my God, there's an Alf costume in his closet!"
"A what- no, nevermind. You can snoop and-"
"I'm not a snoop."
"-and listen as the same time, so I just. I'm gonna say something and please know that I have had five years to figure this all out, and also know that the apocalypse has a way of putting things into perspective."
"Mhmm," Robin hums an acknowledgement as she moves back to where she picked up the yoyo. "Why does he have a pepper shaker in his room?"
Steve ignores her, choosing to believe that was just her thinking out loud and not actually asking him. "Actually, the apocalypse was full of surprises. And I mean, beyond the surprises one might expect. Like, so many of our old teachers are survival experts. Did you ever have Mr. Clark, that guy- wait, no. I had something I wanted to tell you."
The phone starts ringing in the living room. Nancy's out there, though, so neither of them move to the door.
"Anyway, this feels so... why am I so nervous about this? I mean, I've already told you once, but, uh, I. I'm a little worried, scared?"
"Hey, whoa," Robin has dropped her investigation and turned fully back to Steve. "What is it?"
"I like Eddie," Steve blurts, needing to get the words out. "I like Eddie, and I died so now I think this is my only shot, like last last shot but I don't even know if he'll still like me back and I'm, like, ridiculously nervous to see him because, and this is the soulmate secret part because-"
"Whoa, what, what!!? Did you just say died?"
"- you cannot tell anyone, but I'm the reason he's been in jail. I called Hawkins PD and told them where they could find Eddie, 'cause if he was in jail then he couldn't be blamed for Fred's murder, but I've never had to fess up to that because, like, Hawkins exploding and life becoming an actual nightmare for years made it not important. Like, what's a criminal record in the face of no surviving government?"
Robin is staring at him, eyes wide and face slightly pale and it's now that Steve thinks that, maybe, he's not doing as well with everything as he thought he might be.
"Am I... okay?" Steve asks himself out loud, and that has Robin throwing herself across the room to clutch at Steve, drag him into a crushing hug. He hugs back, trembling and finding it hard to breath.
"No, no I don't think you are," Robin whispers, squeezing tight.
"Hey, that was- oh!" Nancy says as she flings the bedroom door open. "Sorry. I didn't mean to interrupt-"
"It's just a hug," Robin says.
"Right. Umm, the phone was Officer Callahan. We can go pick up Eddie."
"Right," Steve says, pulling away from the hug and pulling himself together. He can have his mental break down tomorrow. "Let's go get Eddie."
Provided if that, this time when he closes his eyes to rest, he'll wake up here and not. Well, either in the future or not at all.

Why the Troy and Angela Situations Should Not Be Compared (+ Why Mike's Reaction Is Valid)
One of the things that gets my blood boiling as a Mike defender is when people try to compare the bullying/El's reaction to said bullying between the Troy and Angela scenes. They are not the same thing, not even close! Yes, they're both cases of bullying, but two very different levels of extreme.
Yes, I understand that words can hurt just as much, if not more, than a physical weapon, and Mike understands this too, that's why he tries to connect with El the morning after. But in the real world, one without monsters or powers, the one they believe they're living in at the time, violence is almost never the answer, it only makes things worse, as it did. Mike also understand this. Now, yes, it took him a minute to figure out that El didn't quite understand this yet, but he works to fix his mistakes as soon as he does.
Now, let's look at season 1's incident. Troy is threatening to cut Dustin with a knife if Mike doesn't jump off the quarry cliff. Two lives are in immediate and direct danger in this situation. El, literally at the last second, saves Mike as he's falling, so that's one problem fixed and one less life at stake. By this time, yes, Troy has moved away from Dustin, but he is still holding the knife! And then he aggressively steps towards El, threatening her with it, so she snaps his arm and makes him drop it. This is self defense, as well as defending her friends from a dangerous situation.
In season 4, Angela publicly humiliates El. Yes, it's awful, and yes, she deserves the smack that she gets for it, but it's nowhere near as bad as what Troy was doing. Angela isn't putting any lives in immediate danger, she's not brandishing a weapon! Legally, El smacking Angela is assault, because at the point of the roller-scate-smack, the ordeal is done with, and there was no physical harm done. I'd like to add that I'm aware of El falling, and that she may have been hurt, but technically no one touched her, so it still isn't technically self-defense (I may be wrong here, pls correct me if so). This is a very unfortunate situation, and I feel terrible for El, as should everyone, but I'm a firm believer that when it comes to bullies, you shouldn't fight fire with fire, and Mike seems to carry this belief as well, as he repeatedly tells the boys to just ignore their bullies in s1. @foodiewithdahoodie has an old post (can't find it irl, but it's stuck in my brain) in which they say El treats Angela, a normal girl who is not a serious threat, with the same extreme hostility she shows the UD monsters, and I completely agree with this. El is flawed, and Mike's not a bad person for reacting to those flaws, that just happen to include unnecessary violence, the way a normal person would.
Anyways, what I'm getting at here is that these two situations are completely different (again, Troy has a literal weapon, two peoples' lives were being actively threatened!) and Mike's reaction in both circumstances were completely valid! In season one, he was seconds away from death, and so when El saved him and made the threat go away, he was eternally grateful for her defense. In season 4, he tries so hard to get to her when he realizes what's going on despite having just found out she'd been lying to him for months, and he was even completely on El's side, trying to find and comfort her, until she hit Angela, then he believed she went too far (she did), so he made that known. He's never been one to sugarcoat when he disagrees with certain behaviors, and he doesn't start here, he tells it like it is: Angela doesn't look fine. It also is just a lot to process, so it doesn't surprise me that it takes an overnight thought-session for him to figure out where he went wrong, and again, he tries to make it up to her! To connect with her, bringing down some of his walls in the process! She just disregards his experiences, then brings up him not saying ILY, so he gets defensive and puts back up his walls, and they never get to continue this conversation! (This is an analysis for another day in and of itself tbh)
To reiterate, it just irks me when people compare these scenes to try and make Mike out to be a bad person, when they are nowhere near the same situation! His reactions being different makes total sense, esp when adding the shock-factor of it all! I'll stop talking now cuz this could go on forever and I lowkey feel like I'm just repeating myself now.
Pls tell me your thoughts on this!

little miss. 💋 ༉‧₊˚.
mike wheeler x fem! reader
slight! smut. we don’t get into p in v in this fic.
age pairing: 18+
small heads up, you’ll be the angela in the story. angela is y/n. this takes place in the roller rink scene, aged up. ( pls don’t interact if you’ll just shade down my fic regarding mike. i’ve seen so many mike writers getting hate over this situation. i only write for fun. )
you were eyeing this boy, beside that jane hopper. he looked so eye-catching; there was something about him that made warmth pool inside of you.
the way his hands held jane’s. you wanted that.
sure you had jake, he was a really cute guy.
but this? you had to have him. and you took the chance.
୨⎯ " ♡ " ⎯୧
“milkshakes? yum!”
why is y/n here. i’m supposed to be enjoying this, but she’s starting to ruin it. mike was just talking about how his milkshake was better. did she watch him?
she strutted across the floor on her skates, fixating her gaze on — mike?
“where oh where have you been hiding this handsome thing?”
y/n looked at him with soft eyes, the eyes where you would think “oh she’s such an angel” in your head. but no. she’s so much worse.
i didn’t know how to react. “uh— y/n.”
“th — this is mike. my boyfriend. “
she’s reaching her hand out to him.
“y/n. pleasure.”
her words melt like butter. she says it smoothly.
mike’s looking at her so— dreamily. i look down into my lap. why does she always have to ruin the good things.
୨⎯ " ♡ " ⎯୧
is this the girl el’s been talking about? she’s—pretty. like good pretty, not the kind you’d hear as a friendly compliment. she’s seriously pretty.
mike, stop.
you have a girlfriend. you have el.
she looks so dreamy.
“y/n. pleasure.”
what the fuck. she looks so— pretty. the way she talks its so smoothly. like—like i can listen to her speak all day.
“heard a lot about you, it’s really cool to finally meet one of el— jane’s friends. “
“friends?”
she’s laughing. was there something wrong with i said? what the fuck is wrong with my head today.
“yeah! super. come on friend.”
she pulls el to the roller rink. i can’t help but watch the way her hips roll every time she skates.
i feel her eyes on me, wait does she feel the same? isn’t the guy beside her a bit ago her boyfriend? she smiles at me. i feel my cheeks burning. i need a mirror.
୨⎯ " ♡ " ⎯୧
the local snitch and her little milkshake. hilarious, luckily her boyfriend wasn’t there to see. he’s still in the restroom. i need to see him.
“jake, i need some air. i’ll be outside.”
“okay.”
jake doesn’t seem to care, but i do. he tells me he loves me, but i dont feel the same. we’re just together for a reason. i lied when i told him that i loved him.
i walked to the restroom that mike went in and saw him, washing his face.
“are you okay? your face better be clean at this point.”
“oh— y/n! hi. whaddya doing?”
“just to wash my hands. you know, jane isn’t the person she is.”
he looks at me confused.
“what do you mean exactly..?”
“let’s just say she doesn’t need to find out. you know?”
i strut towards him, my hips swaying every so slightly and wrap my arms around his neck. i look into his eyes, they’re so pretty and doe-like.
୨⎯ " ♡ " ⎯୧
he has his hands on her, inside the bathroom stall. roaming around her body while kissing her passionately. she tugged on his hair, causing his head to arch back and moan softly.
“mmph..” mike started to kiss her jawline to her neck to her cleavage, sucking on it leaving pretty pinks and purples across her collar.
“y/n, you’re so pretty.”
he kisses harder on her and starts to moan softly. they were lucky nobody was in the bathroom right now, otherwise they would’ve been caught.
“you’re so gorgeous.”
a peck on her jaw.
“you’re so beautiful.”
a warm open-mouthed kiss to her cleavage.
“can i?”
he looks at her for consent. he wanted her top off her, she was clouding his head. he couldn’t think about el. it was all y/n. y/n. y/n.
“yes.”
“i don’t know how you could be so hot, miss.”
she presses a kiss on his jawline and lets off a small giggle.
he pulls her shirt off and throws it to the floor.
his eyes trail to her chest to her hips and to her stomach, admiring her.
“i don’t know how el would have friends like these..”
“el? who’s el?”
crap. i wasn’t supposed to say that. he thought.
“uh— that’s jane. just a nickname.”
“oh. okay then.”
the two kissed each other leaving a trail of saliva on their lips, and smashing their lips together again as he undoes her bra.
she moans softly against his left hand, muffling her moans as he starts to suck her right breast and fondle her left breast with the other hand.
he kisses her breasts and immediately hears someone calling his name outside the restroom door.
“shit. i hear will outside.”
“do you really have to go?”
“what if he finds us!”
“then let him be.”
she then pecks an open mouthed on his neck and looks at him with doe eyes, making him fixate his gaze on her. he noticed how long her lashes were, how her bangs framed her face properly, how her lips were such a pretty shape and how her eyes twinkled in the dim light of the restroom.
“we can’t let him see, how about this. you and me, later?”
“fine. only because it’s you. see ya.”
that was the last thing she said to him.
those words were the last thing he heard from her until his girlfriend, el, jane, whatever. smashed a roller skate on y/n’s head.
he didn’t know that right after that session with you, that el asked you to say sorry. he had caught a glimpse of el thrown into the ground, but he thought it was all jokes.
blood was trickling on her face, she looked devastated. he was devastated. not because of the plans they were about to have tonight, because of el. he didn’t understand why she would do something like that. was there something that he missed? he thought you guys were friends.
“oh—oh my god..”
“holy shit el. what did you do.”
oh, if only he knew what you did to el.
if only el knew what you did to him.

the bright pink color of the matching shirts in the display of Forever 21 caught your attention within milliseconds.
two bright, baby pink shirts with laced flower marks sewn in with hot pink string with the words “i’m hers” with an arrow pointing to each shirt had you foaming at the mouth.
Your feet carried you into the store faster than you’ve ever done anything, your heals announcing your entrance to the employee at the entrance. Her head turned towards you, a grin forming on her lips. “Hello, Ma’am. can I help you?”
“Yes! can i please purchase those two pink shirts on display?” you chirped, smiling back at her— happiness striding through you upon seeing her nod. “of course, what two sizes?”
“one medium in woman’s and one small, please”. the employee ran off to the back and you were left grinning ear to ear thinking about seeing ellie in such a cute shirt— her freckles being brought out perfectly, the embarrassed blush you knew she was going to have would be perfect with the shades of the top. You fiddled with your bracelet, that ellie had made you, while you wait for the employee to come out from the back.
when she did, you were sure she could feel your happiness because her polite employee grin seemed to turn genuine. “Thank you so much! i hope you have a wonderful day!!” you thanked her profusely, excitement running through your veins as you waved bye and rushed out of the store— deciding to take a detour from your shopping time to go home early and surprise your girlfriend.
˚₊‧꒰ა ☆ ໒꒱ ‧₊˚
Ellie’s soul practically left her body upon hearing the front door of your shared apartment slam open with such force. The otter pop in her mouth falling from between her lips and to her stomach, leaking through her white wife beater tank top and freezing her.
“what the— ouch! fuck.” she reacted quickly to the sudden cold by flicking the popsicle off her, standing up, she went to see who was at the door— (and she left the otter pop on the floor.)
She slowly approached, light shuffling could be heard, but no signs of life. ellie rose a brow.
“Babe? is that you?” she asked skeptically, popping her head around the walls corner to see who was making all the ruckus.
to her surprise, and her relief, it was you. You were home two hours earlier than you usually are. Ellie sigh a breath of relief, putting a hand to her chest, leaning against the wall.
“you’re home early. someone die?” she teased, dropping her hands to her side. You turned to her, a giant smile taking over your whole face.
Ellie knew she should be happy to see it— but deep down, she was scared. scared of what you’ve brought home this time.
She gulped, pushing herself off the wall and walking towards you. “i know that smile.. bring home another cat?” she bit out, watching as you only smirked at her. “oh, ellie. not this time. i found something better.”
“better than a cat? wow.”
“Turn around.” she rose a brow, lips creasing.
“do i have to—”
“turn around, ellie.” you interrupted, putting a hand up to cover your smile. She did as told, spinning on her heal but keeping her green eyes wide open.
The bags on the table she didn’t get the chance to fully look at began to shuffle. She could hear your new things being taken out and placed on the table.
You shifted, seemingly putting something on before letting out a squeak of excitement that had ellie in fear.
“Okay, els, turn back.”
Ellie inhaled, exhaling as she turned towards you. There you were— your cute smile on your lips, but the most god awful hideous shirt on you ellie had ever seen. The worst part? you held up an identical one.
Ellie’s throat went dry, all sign of life leaving her body the moment her face went pale.
“try it on. I got your size.” you beamed, eyes scanning her before blowing wide. “you stained that top? we just got it.. this is actually perfect. Now you have a replacement.” You tossed the shirt onto her chest, leaning on your hip waiting for her to put it on.
The grin on your face was the only thing keeping the auburn haired girl from running away like she had all the previous times.
Ellie groaned lightly, a huff of air escaping her. curse your adorable smile.
She unfolded the shirt, her biceps showing their muscle as she went to put it on. she was slightly disappointed to say it fit perfectly— ellie was going to protest wearing it, but than she saw the look on your face. You were euphoric.
You hadn’t looked this happy since.. well, the cat. and a few other times…
“oh my gosh, it’s perfect!! now we can wear them together.” you hugged her, smiling so widely she could feel it from where your face was buried in her chest. Ellie felt her cheeks heat up from embarrassment, hugging you back quickly before you pulled back, admiring your work. and the blush on her cheeks you knew would come.
“do you like it?” you asked, eyes gleaming brightly, lips puffed out, smiling wildly up at ellie. Said girls heart stopped, and shattered for a moment upon the look that might cross your face upon hearing her truthful answer— so she.. improvised.
“Yeah, totally, love it. looks great. good choice, babe.” she complimented, bending down to kiss your cheek. You began to talk about how you found it, why you thought of her etc.
You’re lucky ellie loves you so much, because she would have never worn this pink shit for anyone else.

Part 21/END

"You're not Indiana fucking Jones, (Y/N)."
"What is with you and Indiana Jones?"
"Why are you going to South America? Like- Jesus, okay, what if El Dorado is real? What are you going to do about the amount of people who are going to come running for a taste of gold? The people who'll come after you for even having a piece of the real deal? What about this Singh guy? He's dangerous, you said so yourself!" The redhead sputtered, waving her arms around animatedly as he packed some things into his backpack. A simple change of clothes, underwear, deodorant, a hydro flask, his phone charger. He'd seen what Liv packed before her trips out to visit her aunt and go hiking but the experience of trekking through a jungle? Kildare wasn't exactly known for its jungles.
"At least we'll have an adult. Better than last time when it was just us on an island." He replied and swept his gaze over his room, searching for anything else he'd need. It almost felt like some sort of fever dream; clearing the air with Sarah and John B, hanging out with the Pogues on the Cut, preparing to go to a whole other continent. Christ, he'd only ever left Kildare a handful of times. Poguelandia had been a way to survive and Barbados an unavoidable accident. Now there he was, packing up to visit South America in search of someone who probably didn't even care for his existence. Completely and utterly avoidable.
"The adult is the one in trouble!" Liv nearly shrieked at him and slumped back on his bed. "You've finally lost it, (Y/N). You're flying out to South America on a presumed dead man's plane to save a deadbeat from some rich dude. Do you realize how crazy that sounds? How stupid? This is dumb. This is like... Topper Thornton level of stupidity. I hope you know that."
"I know how it sounds, Liv, but- I.." He sighed and finally turned to face the redhead. He pressed his leg against the edge of the bed and reached out to delicately comb his fingers through her vibrant locks. She puffed out her cheeks, a sign she'd be giving in soon, and stubbornly jerked her head in the other direction. "The Pogues have always been about adventures. This will be like... a farewell thing. We wrap this whole Royal Merchant and El Dorado thing up and I leave the Pogues to keep on treasure hunting or whatever it is they'll do after Big John's back home. John B's the biggest idiot I know. But even he deserves to have his father with him."
"And what about your parents?"
"I told them that the Pogues and I were going on a little trip to process what happened to us. It's not my fault they didn't ask where we're going." A grin slipped when Liv snorted and rolled her eyes. The redhead took a deep breath and pushed herself up, brushing aside strands of hair and reaching forward to wrap her arms around him. (Y/N) cradled her head against his stomach and kissed the top of her head.
"I'll stay safe, Liv. I promise."
"You better. I don't feel like going to South America to rescue your ass."
                    ✽        ✽       ✽       ✽       ✽       ✽
Parking the jeep alongside Pope's dirt bike and getting out, (Y/N) nearly stumbled back against his jeep when JJ practically leaped into his arms followed by Pope and Cleo. (Y/N) laughed and did his best to embrace them in return, feeling JJ's hand ruffle the top of his head playfully. "You're late, man! Thought you chickened out on us."
"Not yet." He chuckled, nearly missing the wince from Sarah. He tried not to think about how the others would react to the news, especially after everything they'd been through. Rafe, Coastal Venture, Poguelandia, Barbados, and now... South America. He'd joined their little crew of misfits to help out his ex-girlfriend and now there he stood, waiting to hop on a plane to help her new on-and-off boyfriend. Fate truly had a twisted sense of humor.
"Hey, uh, where's Kie?" Pope asked and (Y/N) shifted to look over at the entrance of the tarmac. No sign of an Uber or Lyft or even one of the Carrera's cars. He frowned, thinking of her parents and how desperate they were to keep Kiara home and safe after their return. They'd always been so protective of her.
"It's gotta be her parents, dude. They've been up her ass." Sarah sighed, brushing her hair out of her face.
"They must've said she couldn't come." Pope sucked his teeth. "We're going to have to do this without her, then."
"No," JJ shook his head, adjusting the backpack strap digging into his shoulder and turning toward John B with his hand outstretched. John B immediately began shaking his head. "Gimmie the keys, man. Her parents already hate me, alright? Just.. give me an hour. It'll be like a black ops mission, in and out. Surgical removal type shit, alright? Plus... I kind of owe her."
"Oh?" John B's head snapped up and a twinkle appeared in his eyes, his fist digging around in his pocket to pull out the keys to the Twinkie. "You owe her, huh? Alright, you totally owe her. I appreciate the honesty."
"Give me an hour, alright, ya'll?" JJ snatched the keys out of his hand and sprinted toward the Twinkie, tossing the backpack through the open window before leaping in afterward, his body awkwardly landing halfway in while John B and Pope groaned. (Y/N) snorted, watching him wiggle his whole body through the window and climb into the driver's seat.
"Feather the throttle!" John B shouted after him and the Twinkie's wheels squealed loudly against the road. They watched him drive off toward the entrance to save his... 'friend.' His very good 'friend.' Totally not his crush or anything like that.
A hand came to rest on his shoulder and he looked back to catch Sarah's eye. She smiled at him, tired and nervous, and her fingers dug lightly into his shoulder. Sarah looked back toward the road where the Twinkie disappeared behind some trees and swallowed, her teeth biting down on her bottom lip. "Do you think he'll convince them to let her go?"
"Probably not." (Y/N) murmured. "I can't say I blame them either. I wouldn't want my daughter hanging out with people she keeps going missing with."
"I never really thought about it like that." Sarah dropped her hand and wrapped her arms around herself, the gentle breeze tousling around some of her hair. There was a heavy silence between them and despite the many discussions they had, it held an air of words yet to be spoken. Their history could never be unwritten, only forgotten over time as they entered adulthood. They'd eventually find their place in the world, their proper place, and begin a life without the other. It seemed fair to (Y/N). It was life. He'd come to accept it. Sarah Cameron had taken up much of his world in recent times, but like everything else, she'd eventually become a faint memory of his life in Figure Eight. A girl he loved and lost. An old friend. Someone he recalled both fondly and bitterly.
"I'll keep in touch, by the way." A lie or the truth? He couldn't quite tell. Did he want to stay in communication with them, with her? It'd be a risk. They'd eventually stumble into a new adventure, something new to discover and unveil that'd prompt them to reach out, whether to experience it with him or ask him for something.
"You could attend Chapel Hill, you know." She said softly. "It's close to home, close to us but not on the island."
"That's not happening, Sarah. I want to get away from here, from Figure Eight and Kildare. I've been here long enough. I don't want to regret not doing what I always wanted. I don't want to be like some of the miserable men here who only get genuine happiness when they go on business trips away from their families. The women here either love their lives or drown themselves in wine while the men inhale coke like its air and are barely ever home. It's a nightmare living here, Sarah. You see it, I see it. The Carrera's are one of the few that seem happy together and they had to prove themselves to even be accepted as Kooks. It's... hell."
"Not everything's so bad. There was... us and- and Topper and-"
"Things that are over, Sarah. Topper definitely won't be talking to us for a while and you and I... " (Y/N) inhaled deeply through his nose and released it in a heavy sigh. "You and I are done. For now or for good, I don't really know. If things change in the future... if we change in the future... maybe we'll find each other again. But I'm done with bullshit love triangles and John B."
"I know. I just-"
"Eight hours?! JJ, don't have eight hours! We've got a jet here. We're all waiting!" The two of them turned at the sound of John B's voice, spotting him speaking into the phone with a look of frustration. He blinked and shook his head rapidly, stammering and stumbling over his words before pulling the phone away from his ear and sighing.
"What's going on?" Pope asked as he and Cleo sat down on the steps leading up to the plane. John B rubbed the area between his brows and pinched the bridge of his nose, tucking his phone into his back pocket.
"Kiara got sent to a wilderness camp," He told them. "So, JJ is going to try to rescue her. He says he'll need eight hours-"
"Hours we don't have." Sarah cut in, folding her arms over her chest and walking toward him. "John B-"
"I know, I know. JJ said that if they don't make it in time, we should just go. That- That somehow they'll make it to South America." John B sighed again at the faces everyone made. Kiara locked away in a wilderness camp and JJ on a mission to rescue her. Sounded like an average Tuesday for the Pogues. "Yeah, I know, but it's JJ. He'll figure something out."
"So, what? We just waitin' around now?" Cleo questioned, her eyes flickering between them. "The longer we wait, the farther Singh gets, you know that, right?"
John B ran a hand over his face and nodded. The sky above them began to darken with the setting sun and gray clouds. Time seemed to tick by faster than expected.  "Yeah, yeah, we know, Cleo. But this is Kie and JJ. We can't just leave leave them."
"Guess we're waiting then." Sarah pursed her lips. "Better get comfortable."
Another hour or two passed and night officially fell overhead, leaving them with only the lights along the airstrip. The plane pilot settled comfortably in the cockpit, awaiting instructions while the Pogues paced outside. No sign of JJ or Kiara, no calls, no texts. Dead silence on their end that only made frustration grow. John B continued to stare out toward the entrance, tapping his foot or dialing their numbers in vain.
"We have to go, John B," Sarah spoke up, pacing along the steps with her hands firmly on her hips. "We don't have eight hours. We can't wait around any longer, alright?"
"I'll try to call him again, okay?" As John B reached into his pocket and wiggled out his phone, the sound of a dirt bike grew closer and two dark figures on a bike appeared from the darkness of the airstrip. Everyone's attention immediately snapped toward it and Cleo groaned in relief. The scold on the tip of Pope's tongue halted and they all froze as the driver tossed their helmet off with their bloodied hands. (Y/N) felt his blood turn cold.
Hands left his sides and lifted to his face. Rafe roughly grabbed his throat, fingers digging into (Y/N)'s skin. A soft whimper left him and he pressed his hands against Rafe's chest, attempting to push back the blonde. "I need you to listen to me very carefully." He spotted Rafe's pupils in the light. He was high. "I need to get rid of John B. He came back to hurt my family and Sarah's helpin' him. I don't want to hurt her. She's my sister. But I can't let John B walk free. You know that, (Y/N). I'll let you come with me in case things get outta hand... But don't get in the way."
Taking in a sharp breath when Rafe released him, (Y/N) gingerly touched his sore throat. Rafe reached around the back of his waistband and took out a revolver, letting (Y/N) soak it in for a moment before tucking it back into its hiding spot. A coldness washed over him, making every hair on his body stand straight. Rafe ran a hand over his face and sniffled lightly, rubbing his nose and slapping a hand over (Y/N)'s back. He casually tossed the door open and stepped out.
"Come on, Barry's waiting."
He felt the phantom touch of fingers digging into his skin, hands coiling around his throat in an iron grip that left him momentarily breathless. Only the pained groan and Rafe's hurried movements broke him out of his brief trance, the withering and panting body on the back of the bike finally registering. Ward toppled over, bringing the bike along with him as he fell onto the concrete, revealing the large bloody circle on his shirt. Fucking Camerons.
"You're okay, Dad. You're okay, you're okay." Rafe breathlessly repeated as he reached down to bring Ward back up onto his feet. He finally knocked the helmet off Ward's head, revealing his pained face. Sarah staggered backward, staring wide-eyed at her father's bleeding form. Rafe turned to them, chest heaving. "Don't just stand there! I need some help! Come on, help me! (Y/N)! Please, Sarah."
Short, rapid breaths escaped Sarah's mouth and she hurried forward despite her previous hesitance. "What happened?!" She asked, pulling one of Ward's arms over her shoulder, helping her father wobble closer and closer to the plane.
"A fisherman spotted him, alright? They know he's alive. We gotta get him off the island right now." Rafe explained, tightly clutching his father's shirt and helping him inside the rest of the way. Sarah brought her hands to her forehead and moved away from the stairs, mumbling curses under her breath as she began to pace before bolting inside to check on them.
"Hell no. We are not getting on the plane with him. Hell no!" Pope shook his head as he cursed and turned toward John B. The brunette remained silent, eyes staring at the dots of red littering the ground and leading up to the plane.
(Y/N) rubbed his throat and turned around to face them, inhaling softly. Rafe looked different. Still had that deranged look in his eye but he'd buzzed his hair, ridding himself of the boyish blonde waves. The blood on his hands... a look that fitted him. A coked-up, daddy's boy who'd do anything for his approval, even if it meant staining his hands.
"He wasn't supposed to come," Sarah said breathlessly, heading down the steps and coming to a stop beside John B. "He stays on the island, he gets arrested."
"No, no, Sarah. I don't think you understand. I don't know if I can get on a plane with that guy-"
"Just listen, John B. This is his plane. I can't stop him from leaving. But he will still give us a ride to Orinoco, so if you don't wanna get on the plane, I get it. We'll find another way!"
John B swallowed, staring down at her as his lips pressed together. "There's no other way." He muttered, turning his head to look at Pope and Cleo. He took in a deep breath. "Let's go. Let's get on the plane."
"With them?" Pope stared at him, completely bewildered, and features slightly hardened with bitterness. With Rafe? (Y/N) grimaced. He'd be fine with just Ward, even if the man appeared half-dead with his groaning. At John B's nod, Pope sighed and turned around, preparing to head into the plane when Rafe stepped out. The two stopped and stared at each other, jaws clenching and muscles tensing. The air filled heavy with tension and unfinished business.
Rafe moved first, heading down the steps and brushing past the glaring boy. Cleo placed a hand on Pope's back, urging him inside and blocking his way until Pope finally headed up into the plane. (Y/N) took in a breath and walked forward, only taking a couple steps toward the plane before sweaty lean arms wrapped around his shoulders. He froze in Rafe's embrace, feeling those bloodied hands curl around the back of his shirt. "Keep an eye on him,' He whispered. "Please."
"He'll be fine." (Y/N) murmured breathlessly, and pulled himself free of the embrace to cut the distance between him and the stairs. He headed up them, hearing Rafe say the same sentiment to Sarah as she followed after him.
Inside the plane, Ward took up two seats near the front with his injury properly bandaged. He winced and groaned every few seconds, his face dripping with sweat. He seemed stable enough. Pope and Cleo sat far from him, side by side with Cleo quietly speaking to a fuming Pope. Sarah collapsed on one of the seats across from Ward with a first aid kit in her hands. John B sat a few seats down, looking weirdly calm about the whole situation. (Y/N) pursed his lips.
It was going to be a long ride to South America.
                    ✽        ✽       ✽       ✽       ✽       ✽
"It's the Wild West out here," Cleo murmured as they stepped off the plane. The airstrip contained multiple people in military gear, some held guns or leashes clipped to attack dogs. Different country, different laws, different treatment. (Y/N) only prayed they'd at least manage to stay on the right end of a gun, far from the barrel or bullets.
"Sarah!" Ward called out, limping down the stairs and holding onto the railings. "I'm coming."
Sarah whipped around to face him, a scoff escaping her. "No, you're not. You got us here like you said you would. Now go on to Guadeloupe. You need to see a doctor!"
"You're way in over your head. I can help, let me help. Please-"
"No!" Sarah shouted, cutting him off sharply. "Get back in the plane. You promised you weren't a part of this."
Ward fell silent, his eyes trailing over each of them. He pressed his lips together tightly and nodded. "Okay." He sighed, turning around and wobbling back into the plane. Sarah turned away and ran a frustrated hand over her face, nodding for them to continue off the airstrip with a solemn look on her face.
Getting a taxi and heading further into Tres Rocas, they listened to the sound of fireworks and firecrackers as people roamed the decorated streets. Lively music played from different buildings and children raced up and down the streets, clutching flags and other things in their hands. Things seemed better, more friendlier than the dreary, heavily watched airport.
"Looks like a local holiday," Cleo mused, stepping out of the taxi and observing her surroundings. (Y/N) watched a firework shoot up into the air and hummed quietly before turning to face the others when the taxi drove away, leaving them in the middle of the crowded street.
"So, we have to assume that Singh's already gone upriver, alright? We're looking for a guy named Jose. He's gonna take us to the dig site. I, uh... I do not have a last name."
"I hate to break it to you, John B," (Y/N) began. "You're in a Latin country. Half the dudes here are going to be named Jose and most of them will be likely working some sort of job regarding the river since, you know, this is a river town."
"(Y/N)'s right. It'll be like findin' a teardrop in the ocean." Cleo rubbed her forehead as she spoke, a tired look passing over her face. "We'd have better luck tryin' to find Singh."
"Well, I'm assuming river guides probably hang out by the river?" Sarah attempted halfheartedly.
"Yeah, and if they're anything like the guys at OBX, they're probably getting drunk on a holiday."
Sarah hummed thoughtfully and placed her hands on her hips, a hopeful grin appearing on her face. "Let's start with the bars, then. Divide and conquer, ya'll."
And with that, the group split up and spread out around town. (Y/N) put his basic Spanish lessons from school to use, hitting up any place that looked like it sold beer and asking around for Jose the river guide. Many of the locals waved him off or shook their heads, unable to answer any of his questions with useful information. Regardless, he thanked them and went on his way until he met up with Pope and Cleo again near the center of the town, the looks on their faces telling him they'd have similar luck.
The sound of tires squealing caught their attention and they spotted a jeep driving down the road, heading straight for them. "Run." Pope breathed and without needing to be told twice, the three of them took off running down the street. The jeep honked repeatedly, the sound of it growing closer and closer as they ducked down different streets trying to lose it.
"Como estas, amigos?" A familiar face stuck their head out a windowless bus, speaking in barely understandable Spanish and with a hude dumb grin on his face. Fucking JJ and Kiara. Go figure. He laughed gleefully but the look quickly vanished at the realization that they were being chased.
"Already?! We just got here!" Kiara groaned, hurrying off the bus with JJ. "What's happening?"
"Singh's men are after us. We gotta think of a plan." Pope explained breathlessly, bracing his hands on his knees and attempting to calm his racing heart by taking deep breaths.
"Let's hijack the bus!"
"This bus?" Kiara scoffed at JJ's proposal, motioning wildly to the old rickety bus they'd taken. "It only goes ten miles an hour!"
"They're coming now, guys! Hide in the fruit stands, come on!" Cleo ushered them further down an alleyway where rows of stalls stood. They ducked and weaved around the bustling people until they found an unoccupied stand to hide behind. (Y/N) could feel droplets of sweat roll down his cheeks, his eyes locked on the rifles the two men carried around as they asked and checked the bus. The two eventually headed back to their jeep and took off down the road.
"Welcome to South America," Cleo said, tossing her arms up.
"They're foreigners, Cleo." (Y/N) murmured, catching his breath and running the back of his hand over his forehead. "The locals haven't done anything. They don't owe us any help either."
"So..." Kiara trailed off, her chest heaving with deep breaths. "What's the plan?"
JJ swallowed, his eyes flickering over the stands and locals bustling around before his lips twisted up. He looked back at Kiara, studying her face for a moment before looking back toward them. "Barracuda Mike gave us the ride here. We could... ask him?" He proposed, wincing at the deadpan look Pope gave him. "He's our only shot, man!"
"Fantastic..." Pope sighed heavily. "Barracuda Mike it is."
Barracuda Mike, as it turned out, was a smuggler who primarily dealt with smuggling drugs and other similar things out of North Carolina via his cargo plane. And, he seemed surprisingly understanding when the group returned to him asking for help, claiming to have a boat set up at the river. He led them to it, even offering over a mag of machetes for them to use as weapons as he led them through a short trek in the jungle and to a boat perched on the water.
"I'm addin' the cost of this rig to what you already owe me. I don't expect to see it again, anyway. I asked around at the landin' today. Your buds did leave this mornin', but I was able to get directions to El Tesoro. Pretty loose since only Jose knows the real way, but it'll get you in the right zip code." Barracuda Mike explained, handing over a piece of paper with directions written on it and nodding for them to climb into the boat.
Turning to look at him, Pope offered a small smile. "Thanks."
"Don't thank me." Barracuda Mike brushed him off with a dry chuckle and wave of his hand. "Start prayin'." Ah, that made his willingness to help more understandable. He wanted them out of his hair as quickly as possible. "
With a couple of strained grunts, Barracuda Mike pushed the boat further into the water and lifted his hand to wave at them as the boat began floating downstream. JJ got the motor started and their speed increased, releasing a soft hum that mixed with the distant singing birds, chirping insects, and even the occasional hoot of a monkey. The five of them settled comfortably on the boat, filling the silence with chatter. (Y/N) spent his time gazing into the murky, brown river water until night fell and they took turns steering the boat to get some rest.
By the early morning, the sound of another boat heading down the river prompted JJ to wake everybody up and steer the boat closer to the bank where it'd be hidden by foliage and low-hanging leaves. They ducked down and waited, watching as a boat filled with Singh's men passed by, armed and going rather fast.
"They're not lookin' for us." Cleo mused. "They're movin' too quick."
"They're looking for John B and Sarah." JJ realized quietly, darting up from his spot and starting the motor back up. "They gotta know where they're headed. We need to go. They're gonna need us!"
The boat quickly resumed its journey down the rivers, speed fast enough to keep up with Singh but slow enough not to draw their attention. (Y/N) watched the boat drift in and out of view, disappearing over the horizon until JJ sped back up. His gaze moved over to the bag of machetes resting on the floor of the boat. Weapons, Barracuda Mike had called them. Weapons meant to help them against armed and trained men with guns. Maybe he should've listened to Liz, after all.
Early the next morning they encountered a small docking area by the riverbank. Kiara studied the paper Barracuda Mike had given them, her head lifting every so often to look at the village before she nodded to herself. "Guys, I think this is El Tesoro. The trailhead to the mountain is supposed to start here." She told them.
"Oh, shit," JJ whispered, motioning ahead to two of Singh's men lingering on the docks. "What are we gonna do? We gotta get past them somehow."
Pope's lips pursed and he slipped his backpack off his shoulders, setting it down on his lap and rummaging through the contents before pausing and looking up at them. "I... may have an idea."
"This is so stupid." (Y/N) whispered, peeking over the windowsill of the old, abandoned shack that had the perfect view of the men. One of them dozed off on a boat while the other fiddled around with different things, seemingly bored of waiting around. "If one of you gets shot-"
"It'll be fine, (Y/N)." Kiara assured him, ensuring the note she'd tied to the end of the fish hook wouldn't fall before she tossed the line out. It landed in the boat the napping man lied in and he startled, sitting up with squinted eyes and looking around until he noticed the note. "Get ready, ya'll.... and.... now, JJ!"
The blonde lit a firecracker and tossed it into the air, far enough that it hit the side of boat and exploded in the water. The man scrambled up and grabbed his rifle, his head on a swivel as his partner ducked down. Another firecracker landed and exploded nearby, prompting the man to start shooting blindly and forcing them to duck down to avoid being seen or hit.
"Return fire, Pope! Return fire!" JJ shouted and Pope quickly lit another firecracker, tossing it over the roof of the shack.
When that one exploded, they heard the man shouting at his partner to get in the boat. The boat quickly sped off with the two men on it and the group sent them off with one last firecracker. Once they disappeared down the river, (Y/N) stood up and shook his head, rolling his eyes at JJ and Pope's celebratory handshake.
"Hey, hey," Cleo called, stepping out of the shack and sucking her teeth. "No time for celebrating. We didn't do nothing yet."
                    ✽        ✽       ✽       ✽       ✽       ✽
"You know," (Y/N) exhaled breathlessly, sweat dripping profusely from his skin from both the humidity and trek up the mountain. Kiara answered with a soft groan, clutching her side as she leaned against a tree and turned back to look at him. Pope and Cleo had long gone ahead of them, clearing a way with two machetes as if they were used to hiking through jungles. "I'm glad this little last adventure... with you all has been... interesting, to say the least."
"Last?" JJ repeated, quickly as breathless. His blonde strands stuck to his forehead and temples, soaked as if he'd taken a plunge in the river. "What- What do you mean, last?"
"Yeah, I mean-" Kiara took a deep gulp of air and swatted away a buzzing insect. "-I'm sure there'll be other adventures."
"Yeah, for you guys." (Y/N) stood up straighter and rolled back his shoulder, wincing when his back ached. His legs were in no better condition, aching and weeping for rest. JJ and Kiara stared at him, their brows knitting together. "I- I... Jesus, I hate hiking. I'm never doing this again."
"Ditto." Kiara laughed and turned her back to him, using the trunk she'd been leaning against to help her move over a fallen log. "But, what do you mean? We're Pogues. All of us. Even Cleo and you. We're... We're a family... one that should never go hiking again."
"Remember that night when Sarah told us about the plane?" You asked, waiting for JJ to step over the log and sighing quietly when the blonde tripped and nearly fell. He recovered quickly, shooting them both an innocent grin as he wiped moist dirt off his hand. (Y/N) cautiously stepped over the log, keeping in mind the root that'd nearly taken out JJ and glancing up at them as they continued the trek.
"Yeah, you and JB cleared the air, right?" JJ glanced over his shoulder at him.
"Yeah, sorta, I guess. But, uhm... I told them that I'd-"
"Woah, guys, look at this view!" Kiara suddenly called out with a giddy laugh, the path leading out to an open area where they could overlook the thick jungle and the mountains ahead. (Y/N) noticed Pope and Cleo breaking away from each other quickly and hummed quietly, a smile pulling at the edges of his lips. Kiara and JJ, Pope and Cleo... Sarah and John B. They all had each other, in some way or another.
"What were you saying, (Y/N)?" JJ turned to look at him, causing the others to turn as well.
"Oh, uhm..." (Y/N) trailed off and sighed, looking out toward the gorgeous view before him. A thick green jungle as far as the eye could see, giant mountains that reached toward the skies, the beautiful song of the jungle sounding through the air. Beautiful, but everything that'd led him up to that moment hadn't truly been worth the view. "I'm leaving the OBX. For good. I'm- I'm going to get my diploma and apply to colleges away from here."
"What?" The resounding response to his revelation.
"I know, I know... Poguelandia, I know. I deserve more than being the thirdwheel or the ex being dragged along, guys. As much as ya'll hate to admit it, I'm a Kook. I care about each of you, even John B... sometimes. You'll always be family. And sometimes, families have to separate to live their lives to the fullest, right? I want a degree, a proper job, and a safe life. It's boring but it'll be comfortable." The Pogues remained largely quiet, mixed expressions on their faces and different emotions flashing but in the end, they all settled on bittersweet smiles and nods. "And I promise to send wedding invitations, if I ever get engaged."
"You better!" JJ laughed, lurching forward to swing his arms around his shoulders and hold him tightly. "You better, you bastard. I expect to be a groomsman, you hear?"
"And you better keep in touch, too." Kiara piped in.
"And visit when you can, alright?" Pope added and Cleo agreed with a nod.
"I will, I will." (Y/N) chuckled, running his hand over JJ's back before the two pulled away. "Now, let's go find those two idiots."
They headed down the mountain after Pope pointed out a manmade trail heading down and further into the jungle. JJ took the lead with Kiara, using machetes to cut down any thick grass, exposed roots, or fallen wood. They walked with idle chatter until a loud, distant yet not far explosion sounded through the air, startling the animals and causing birds in a nearby tree to shoot up into the air in a panic. They fell silent and exchanged wide-eyed glances before a silent, mutual agreement passed over them and they broke out into a sprint in the direction of the explosion.
"Careful!" Pope called when Kiara tripped over a root but brushed him off with a wave and stood back up to hurry after JJ.
They continued through the path until they heard the familiar sound of Ward's voice, followed by Big John and Sarah. Immediately ducking down, they carefully made their way up the steep path and peeked over, spotting Ward holding Big John, Sarah, and John B at gunpoint while speaking quietly to them.
"What are we gonna do?" Pope questioned quietly.
"Is this ride or die?" JJ asked quietly, his hand curling around the machete sheathed away. The others mimicked his movements, freeing their machetes from their sheaths and holding tightly onto them. JJ glanced back at them and grinned. "P4L."
The group charged forward with battle cries, pulling Ward's attention away from the three and onto them. He swung his gun around frantically as the group shouted at him, demanding he put his gun down. Ward panted, his eyes wide and arm swinging around, continuously switching who he pointed the gun at in a desperate attempt to spook them into staying back.
"You can't shoot just one of us." (Y/N) exhaled, grinding his teeth when Ward looked back at him with softened features.
"If you have to shoot somebody, Ward, shoot me." Big John told him through labored breaths, his bloodied hands pressed against his side. Shit. Ward spun on his heel to face him but John B stepped in his way, staring him right in the eye and arching a brow.
"Or me." He said softly, watching Ward's features harden and the trembling of his hand grow. He curled his lip and took a deep breath, attempting to steady his arm but then Sarah stepped in front of John B, her eyes shiny with tears but her features showcasing her utter exhaustion.
"Stop." She whispered, swallowing as a tear slid down her cheek and she stepped forward, pressing the barrel to her chest and staring at her father. "Enough."
"Don't-"
"You're not gonna kill all of us. I know you won't. I know you." Sarah's lips began to tremble and she shakily exhaled. "You forget that I know you."
Her words seemed to have an effect on Ward, his own eyes flooding with tears and face scrunching up as his shoulders began shaking. Sarah placed her hand over his, pushing it down and pulling the gun from his weakened grip. "I couldn't." Ward gasped, tears running freely down his face. His palm came to rest on Sarah's cheek and he weakly smiled. "I couldn't do it."
"Yeah? Well, I can." A new voice called followed by the sound of a gun cocking. One of Singh's men stumbled out of the jungle, his gun raised and pointed at them before dropping down to Big John when John B pointed his own gun at him. "Toss it!"
"Take it easy, bud." Big John spoke weakly. "Your boss is dead. You got no reason to do this."
"I can think of a few reasons." The man sneered at Big John, his eyes jumping back to John B. "Toss it!" He demanded sharply and John B lifted his hands, letting the gun slip from his grasp. The man slinked forward, keeping his gun trained on them. "Thought you'd end up with the gold, eh? Alright, nobody move. My mate back there is dead. Because of you. You..." He pointed his gun at Sarah. "Can go first."
Exchanging one last somber look with his daughter, Ward charged forward, taking multiple shots to his body but refusing to relent until he tackled the man and took them both tumbling down the cliff nearby. Sarah staggered forward, short gasps escaping her that turned into quiet sobs. (Y/N) moved first, snapping the others out of their shock, and walked toward the cliff's edge. He spotted the two lifeless bodies at the bottom and grimaced, closing his eyes tightly and listening to Sarah's sobs grow louder.
"Big John? Hey, Big John?" Pope's panicked voice made him open his eyes and he turned his head, noticing Big John's head lolling off to the side. (Y/N)'s arms reached out, pulling Sarah against him, and nodded to John B. The brunette shot him a thankful look before rushing over to his father, speaking hurriedly to him and slinging on of his arms over his shoulder.
"Come on, we gotta get you out of here, Dad." John B told him, waiting for Pope to get his other arm before they began heading back down the trail as quickly as possible.
"We'll let them know when we get back that his body's here, alright?" (Y/N) took Sarah by the shoulders, squeezing them lightly. She sniffled, another sob wrecking her body but she managed to nod weakly, one arm sliding around his waist to use him as support. "You'll be okay, Sarah. We'll all be okay."
They took turns helping Big John, the weight of a tall grown man weakening them after some time. They managed to reach the deserted dock, getting to their boat, and laying him down. (Y/N) got the motor started, steering them up the river as the Pogues tried giving Big John reassurances through their tears. He remained by the motor, watching them slowly come to terms with Big John's fate. His breathing had long become labored, his body too exhausted to fight through the pain.
With a trembling hand, Big John took his son's hand. "We did it together, my boy. Just... just like we drew it up. Hey, hey, Bird... it's okay." He weakly smiled up at him, rubbing his thumb over John B's hand. "I know... that I wasn't any great shakes as a father... but you... you were the best son any man could hope for. I want you to know that..."
"Tell me when we get home, Dad, okay?" John B sniffled, reaching into his bag to pull out the block of gold they'd been able to get from El Dorado before exploding the entrance alongside Singh. He set the block on Big John's chest for him to look at, a pained, bittersweet smile on his face. "We did it. We did it, Dad."
Big John's eyes fluttered closed, his breathing growing weaker and shorter. John B's lips rolled into his mouth, the tears dripping down his cheeks and quiet sobs escaping him. "I'll see you... I'll see you at home, kid..." Big John told him, before his chest ceased rising and John B hugged him tightly.
                    ✽        ✽       ✽       ✽       ✽       ✽
"Is this all of it?"
(Y/N) tore his attention away from his startling empty room to look over at Liz. He'd taken down most of his pictures, even those of him and Sarah, and packed them away in a box. He'd already chosen which ones he felt like keeping and which ones he felt fine with parting. His closet remained partly empty, a couple clothes kept in there just in case, but his essentials and anything sentimental had been packed away and in the back of his jeep.
"Yeah," (Y/N) nodded, pushing his hands into the pockets of his jacket and nodding to himself. "We're good to go, I guess."
"Good, 'cause I have a flight to catch." Liv walked forward, wrapping her arms around him before planting a kiss on his cheek. She scanned the room and hummed quietly, turning around and making her way to the door. "I'll be waiting for you on campus, alright? I already spoke to your future roomie-"
"Liv." (Y/N) groaned.
"And I have to say, he's pretty cute. I think you'll have fun together." Liv winked, her mischievous giggles echoing down the hall.
Rolling his eyes and quietly muttering to himself, (Y/N) took one last survey of his childhood bedroom. He'd miss it, even with all the lonesome memories it held. He walked toward the door and stepped outside, gently shutting it and making his way down the hall. His eyes took in every inch of the hall, gaze lingering on the rare family photos still hung up despite his parent's pending divorce. Things were better that way. They'd go their own way, find their own happiness. Communication with them had improved, at least. No more ignored calls.
"Goodbye, home sweet home." He whispered to himself, striding down the stairs and picking up his keys.
(Y/N) stepped outside and shut the door with a soft thud, locking it and double-checking it locked. He inhaled deeply and stepped off the porch, waving to Liv's car when it sped down the road. Topper waited at the end of the driveway, attempting to look as casual as possible while leaning against his truck.
"What's up, Top?"
"Came to see you off, is all," Topper responded with a shrug, pushing himself off the truck and walking up the driveway toward him. He stood in front of him, twisting his lips up a bit before throwing his arms around him in a tight hug. (Y/N) stumbled backward and chuckled, wrapping his arms around him. "I'm still mad at you.... but I'll miss you."
"Yeah, yeah, don't get into trouble, alright?" (Y/N) leaned back, ruffling up his pristine blonde locks and laughing when Topper huffed. "Keep an eye on Sarah, will you? But be nice about it."
"She's a big girl," Topper muttered, crossing his arms over his chest. "I will. Just for you, though."
"Uh-huh." (Y/N) climbed into his jeep and turned the engine on, feeling it come to life beneath him. He took another look at the boy and smiled, closing the door and resting his arm on top of it. "I'll be seeing you in a couple months, anyway. Got that big thing with the mayor, remember? Something about the treasure."
"Don't be a stranger, then!" Topper called, watching the car reserve out of the driveway.
With one last wave, (Y/N) drove down the street. He turned the volume of the radio up and absentmindedly listened to the random pop songs that played, his eyes focused on the scenery passing him by. The expensive houses, the snobby neighbors, the shimmering water peeking between the trees, the welcoming town between both worlds, the distant horn of the ferry. He'd miss Kildare but it felt good to finally break away from it.
The repeated honking of a car caught his attention and he rolled his eyes when the Twinkie drove up beside him with JJ halfway out of the passenger window. Whoops, hollers, and the occasional 'we'll miss you' came from the van and JJ playfully blew him a few kisses before being forced back into his seat by John B. The brunette pushed his hand into the horn a few more times before they turned down a different road.
"Idiots." (Y/N) whispered with a chuckle and pulled into a gas station, parking his car by one of the bumps and stepping out. He stuck his hand in his back pocket for his wallet and tugged it out, moving around his car and looking up in time to notice Sarah jogging across from the store.
"Liv told me you were gonna stop for gas here." She revealed with a chuckle, brushing back strands of blonde hair she'd recently recolored. Sarah smiled sweetly, glancing at the stuff stored in the back of his jeep. "The others are gonna pick me up in a second. I... I wanted to say bye to you alone. Well- Somewhat alone."
"All of you are acting as if I'm marching off war." (Y/N) snorted. Sarah laughed sheepishly and shrugged lightly, taking a few steps closer before she leaned up to press their lips together. She leaned back and rested her hands on his shoulders, her smile shifting into a sad one. She sighed shakily and chuckled again.
"Thank you, for everything... I couldn't have asked for a better boyfriend, ex or not. I'll really miss you and just know that- that I'll always have love for you, (Y/N). Remember that, okay? Promise you'll never forget how much I care about you... how much we all care for you." She told him softly, tilting her head up to gaze into his eyes. "Pogues for life?"
"Pogues for life." He echoed softly, combing his fingers through her hair and pressing his hand against her cheek. Sarah leaned into his touch and closed her eyes.
"I'm... I'm glad you're going for your happily ever after, (Y/N). Even if it's not with us. We'll always be here if you ever need us."

In The Name of Love | Chapter 12

Masterlist

"Your no boyfriend is the best, Val. Getting us tickets for el clásico and so close to the pitch? Amazing."
"Yeah, well" I shrug as we sit down.
"These days they allow anyone come to the Camp Nou" a man says behind us. "Madrid bitch."
"Don't listen to him, Val" Marina whispers.
While she is wearing Pedri's shirt, I decided to take my Real Madrid scarf, hoping it would not be too noticeable and that no one would say anything to me. Turns out I was wrong.
"Bringing rubbish like this to our home… fucking hell" the man says, kicking the back of my seat, the two men sitting next to me giving him a disgusted look.
"What? Do I have something on my face?" he says to them. "Fucking morons."
"They do allow anyone into the Camp Nou, yes" the one next to me sighs. Though only I can hear him, everyone else cheering as the players come out for their warm-up.
━━━━━━❃━━━━━━
"Well, that wasn't that bad" Marina says when the referee signals the end of the first half.
"You only managed to score once" I chuckle. And no, it wasn't Pedri. So far he is keeping his promise of not scoring against my team.
"Wait until the next 45 minutes. We are gonna destroy you" the man behind me says, starting to kick my seat once again.
━━━━━━❃━━━━━━
During the second half Real Madrid is attacking on the side of the pitch where we are, and on one of those attacks…
"Goal!" I scream, lifting my arms and clapping.
"Shut up, bitch!" the man behind me says, slapping my hands and starting to kick my seat again.
"Hey! Leave her alone!" the one sitting next to me says.
"Or what? Are you gonna call the police?" he laughs, kicking my seat once again.
"Maybe we will" the other says.
"Don't bother. He is not worth it" I tell them, trying to ignore the burn in the hand he had slapped.
━━━━━━❃━━━━━━
Minute 35. Real Madrid keeps attacking, our second goal getting closer and closer.
"Oh, look! Ferran is warming up!" Marina says, calling his name and waving at him.
"Hello" he smiles, waving back.
"He is so cute… Isn't he, Val?"
But I can't answer. My eyes are fixed on the pitch, on what is going on.
"Goal!" I scream again, this time getting up from my seat and clapping.
"Sit down you Madrid bitch!" the man behind me says, grabbing me by the scarf and pushing me down. Luckily, it was loose around my neck and he didn't choke me, but now he has it. "Fucking rubbish" he says, spitting on it and throwing it away.
"Hey! What the fuck, man!" Ferran yells from the pitch.
"You shut up, you useless piece of shit!"
"Is everything ok?" a security guard says, one of the men sitting next to me standing behind him. When he said they would call the police, he wasn't lying.
"This man has been harassing this girl the whole game and he just spit on her scarf and threw it away" the one sitting next to me says, nodding towards where my scarf is.
"That's a lie! I did nothing!"
"Is this true, miss?"
"Don't you dare talking, you fucking Madrid bitch!" the man says, grabbing my arm.
"You are hurting me!" I complain.
"Sir, let her go" the security guard says.
"She shouldn't be here!" he says, twisting my arm.
"Sir, please. Let the girl go and come with me."
"I'm not going anywhere! She should be the one leaving! Rubbish like her isn't welcomed here!"
"Sir…" the guard says, moving towards us to try and free me.
And then, everything happens too fast.
The man lets go of my arm, giving it one last twist before pushing me against the nice one who had been defending me. But he doesn't have time to react and catch me, and I see myself falling against the empty seats in front of us since the people who were sitting there are now up, looking at everything that was happening. I hear Marina calling my name, I think Ferran too. And then the next thing I know is that I am on the floor, feet everywhere around me, my right side hurting as hell.
"Val! Val, are you ok? Move! Stop filming and move! Val!"
"Ferran? What…"
"I'm here, it's ok. It's ok" I hear him say next to me before everything becomes a blur.
━━━━━━❃━━━━━━
"Val, stop moving. Didn't you hear what the doctor said?" Marina scolds me.
"I did. But this stretcher is so uncomfortable…"
"Ferran's arms are more comfortable, uh?" she smirks.
"Idiot" I reply, rolling my eyes. He had carried me away. He had jumped the billboards and ran towards where I was laying, picking me up and taking me to the infirmary himself, not giving a shit about the game. He even stayed with us while one of Barça's doctors checked me.
"I was right about him, wasn't I? He is your no boyfriend. I mean, why else would he do that?"
"Because we are friends?"
"Val! Valeria, are you alright?" Pedri says, storming into the room.
"Hey" I smile.
"I am so sorry. So so sorry" he says, cupping my face and kissing me. "Are you ok?"
"I'm fine, yes. Just a broken rib."
"A what? Ferran said it was just a contusion!"
"He probably didn't want to worry you" I say while he caresses my cheek.
"Oh… my God" Marina gasps next to us. I had completely forgotten she was there. Shit.
"Marina, I can explain."
"He is your no boyfriend! Him!" she says, pointing at Pedri.
"He… he is, yes" I sigh. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you. I didn't know how."
"Oh, my God" she repeats, her eyes going from me to Pedri and back at me.
"Marina, are you ok?" he asks.
"I'm… I'm… Yes. I think. I just… He is your no boyfriend!"
"You already said that" I chuckle.
"Not Ferran or Eric. Him!"
"Yep."
"Oh my God, Val. I knew you were the cool cousin, but this… this is…"
"I am the cool cousin? I thought I was the disgrace of the family" I laugh. Though maybe I shouldn't have. That hurt.
"Don't listen to your mother, she knows nothing" Marina says. "You've always been the cool cousin, everyone agrees. And now you are even cooler because you are a wag! My cousin! A wag!"
"I'm not a wag, Marina."
"Maybe not officially, but he is the one giving you the vitamin D, isn't he?" she smirks.
"Marina!"
"Sorry" she shrugs.
"You can't tell anyone about us, you hear me? No one."
"My lips are sealed."
"I'm being serious, Marina."
"I won't tell a soul, Val. I promise."
"Not even as revenge because she has stolen your boyfriend?" Pedri teases her.
"You told him?"
"Sorry" I shrug.
"Now you are a 5% less cooler" she says, her cheeks bright red.
"Poor me… ouch!"
"Are you ok?" Pedri asks with a concerned look. Even in moments like this he is the cutest. Ugh.
"I'm fine. It's just that laughing hurts."
"Right. Then we have to become boring and not make you laugh. Can you do that, Marina?" he asks her.
"It's gonna be very difficult…"
"Do it for your cool cousin who currently is a 5% less cool" he says, trying not to smile.
"Idiot" I murmur.
"Ok, I'll try" she sighs.
"Great" Pedri says. "Now let's take you home, shall we?"
"What are you doing?" I say when he puts his arms around me.
"Carrying you?"
"I can walk, Pedri."
"And I can carry you. I've done it before, remember?"
"Val, let him do it. He's probably jealous of what Ferran did" Marina smirks.
"Wait, are you?" I ask him.
"Of course not! I just want to take care of you."
"Aww, cute" Marina says.
"Ok, fine. But try not to drop me."
"When have I done that?" he says.
"There is a first time for everything, Pepi."
"Val! Did you also tell him about that?" Marina complains.
"Don't worry, I already knew. Now let's go" he says, picking me up while I wrap my arms around his neck.
"Boyfriend goals" Marina sighs, walking behind us. "Or no boyfriend in this case."

❓Hikaru Instagram Q&A❓
Last night, Hikaru invited her followers on Instagram to send her some questions. Even though this was originally meant to be a late night activity, Hikaru said that it was okay to keep submitting questions throughout the day. Here are some of my highlights〈(•ˇ‿ˇ•)-→
Questions about Kalafina
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
She got asked about her favourite Kalafina song multiple times. Her usual answer was that it was impossible to choose just a single song. She did mention however that at that moment she felt like listening to "Hanataba". When being asked about both her favourite Kalafina as well as H-el-ical// song, she once again struggled to choose just one but a current favourite is "紡 - TSUMUGU -". Someone asked Hikaru to share an uplifting song, her choice is Kalafina's "One Light". Her favourite lyrics from "Yume no Daichi" are the following lines (WaKei part): 貴方が生まれた On that bright morning その眩し朝に that you were born まだ誰も知らない no one yet knows 華やかな歌が A brilliant song 静かに始まった has quietly begun [Note: I personally love the verse that comes right after this one]
Questions about Keiko
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
She got asked about her favourite Keiko solo song. Since she wasn't able to pick one, she listed a few: "Hitori Janai Kara", "Yoru no Uso to", "Kimi ga Nemuru Kara", "Latte" and "Inochi no Hana". [Note: Ah yes, happy to see "Kimi ga Nemuru Kara" on her list, it's a personal favourite!] As for Hikaru's favourite part about Keiko: Her personality. Btw, Keiko reacted to those two replies in her own Instagram story💗.
Question about Wakana

Full disclosure, this was one of my questions/messages. I had only sent a very generic support comment last night (these things make me feel so uncomfortable so I’m usually too scared to send anything else🙈) but for some reason, I was feeling brave earlier today so I thought I would sneak in a subtle ask about Wakana. "What is your favourite Wakana solo song?" Nothing too personal or obtrusive. She had been asked a similar question about Keiko before so I didn't think she would mind being asked about Wakana as well. Especially since she has now mentioned twice how she would love for everyone to support all of their individual solo careers. For me, this sentiment implies that she is very supportive of not only Keiko's solo career but also Wakana's. Anyway, she couldn't choose one because it was way too difficult again [Note: Honestly my mistake. I had noticed that she was struggling to name only one song for similar questions but I was too nervous while writing this so I didn't even think about that T_T]. Hikaru named a few of her favourite Wakana songs: "Nagareboshi", "Ai no Hana", "magic moment" and "ato hitotsu". ["Ai no Hana", my beloved! Surprised to see "Nagareboshi" here though. Very fascinating choice! "ato hitotsu" is also one of my all-time faves!]
