#which good for him tbh. you go Bart
Guys I need you to know about my weird ass dream:
Bart and Wally were hanging out. Everything was a pinkish-purple and slightly distorted, like I was watching them through a wall of rock candy.
Wally leaned over to Bart and said "I like men, I think. I'm bi. I always have been, I've just never said it out loud. It changes nothing in my life and it changes nothing about me but I think it's good to be myself. It's good to be honest about myself."
Now at this point I was shocked. Elated but completely bamboozled. I wasn't aware that this was a dream so I was F R E A K I N G out. I remember thinking "Holy shit, did DC just say that Wally is bi??? And have it just be a casual thing that changes nothing??? Without it disrupting his relationship with his wife or family?!?!"
My mind was running wild, which is why it took me a few minutes to process when Bart said "Oh cool. Me too."
Guys.
People.
I was ready to explode.
Then the pinkish-purple crystal wall they were in changed from sorta bi colors to just straight up the bi flag.
Which was weird because neither one had acknowledged the strange setting before this but suddenly Bart seemed to notice and he was incredibly confused.
Wally laughed. Like a cartoony villain laugh. And said "I knew it!"
Then he turned into Mirror Master.
I was sent reeling as I realized a) Goddammit, Wally isn't canonically bi, that was just Mirror Master apparently b) Oh holy, shit they've been inside a crystal/crystal dimension this entire time and c) Mirror Master's evil plan was apparently tricking Bart into coming out??
Anyway, I woke up after that but... what.
What the fuck.

BOOKS
We Will Devour The Night by Camilla Andrew. The version I read is available in the author's ko-fi (aninkwellofnectar), and the final version will come during fall of this year. I've talked about this saga before (The Essence of the Equinox), and I still recommend it to those of us who like complex characters (especially female characters), gothic horror, and lush prose. This is a sequel, and I like it even more than the first instalment. It gets deeper into the darkness of the world and it's an amazing read. The third and final part has started been posted on ko-fi as well, for anyone interested.
Why Does He Do That? Inside The Minds of Angry and Controlling Men by Lundy Bancroft. I wish I could make everyone read this book. It wouldn't fix everything, because it runs against a lot of people's deep-seated belief systems, but maybe it would make SOME of them start second-guessing those beliefs... Anyway. A MUST read in terms of abuse and intimate partner violence.
Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë. I read the book for the first time about 15 years ago, and only reread it now. I loved it even more than the first time. The atmosphere, the revenge tale, the love story between Catherine and Heathcliff, all the ways these families' lives affect the others, how you have to parse through Nelly's account of events... I still wish I could hit Lockwood in the head with a stick lol. Just once. Not even too hard! But hit him in the head, I would xD
COMICS
Batman: Huntress/Spoiler - Blunt Trauma. One of those "it could've been so good if it was good" comics. It would've had to NOT been written by Dixon, of course. His ideas about these two characters are palpable here. He's met real women and girls, I know this, but he's completely failed to take anything from these meetings into account to understand them as people. And boy, does it show in his writing.
Green Lantern: Willworld. I've had this comic in my list for aeons and I moved it up when I found out its author would be writing Jason's upcoming ADITF "what if" story starting July. I really liked this one, and how it showcased Hal's character. It's not a guarantee I'll like his Robin Lives run, because comic writers have biases and blind spots and huge gaps in their knowlege regarding certain characters, but "he seems to be a good writer" is already a huuuuge leg up compared to most modern Jason content lol.
JLA: World Without Grown-ups. This was interesting because I've watched the Young Justice (cartoon) version of this premise, which is VERY different, from the villains to their goals to the handling of the crisis (since the cartoon had an established teen team), down to the emotional beats (the Zataras). They're too different to be compared, tbh. This one was quite fun though, and it made me feel very fond of Bart. Also Tim's parasocial relationship with Jason's memorial made an appearance LOL.
Colin Wilke's appearances. I am MOURNING this kid. He has like 9 appearances (and a couple of them are barely a few pages) but each one is gold. Bring him back. Make HIM Damian's best friend. Integrate him in the storyline!! His character and his dynamic with Damian had so so much potential. I am definitely going to include him in my fics.
Batman: Li'l Gotham. (plus the two stories introducing it in Batman Annual #27 and 'Tec Annual #11). A couple of things conspired (including me finding out there's a version of Colin in this lol) and I ended up reading it while I was sick. It's mostly fun fluff (as opposed to just corny fluff) and a quick read without much meat in it, but a few things nudged the inspiration muscle and Dustin Nguyen's art is adorable.
Batman Tales: Once Upon a Crime. I liked this one more than the above! It follows in that universe (a Gotham where everything is smaller and cuter lol), mixing it with some fairy tale vibes. Pinocchio!Damian is A Concept. Although my favourite story was "The Snow Queen", with Mister Freeze. The art goes into a whole other level in all of these, but especially that one.
Batman: The Chalice. Bruce Wayne receives the Holy Grail. I read this one in my list of Talia appearances and hers is the part that interested me: Ra's wants the Grail to make her immortal, like him, and Talia tells him that she has no desire to live forever. Her words are "Having lived my life in your company, the prospect of eernal life is not the attraction for me it might be for another." There are A LOT of things you can read into that sentence, and one of them, to me, is the idea that death to Talia would be an escape from Ra's, which is... interesting. Sidenote: this one was written by Dixon, who once in a while gets his wired crossed and is not wholly terrible with female characters xD
Ghost/Batgirl. I hadn't heard of Ghost before but I'm kinda curious after reading this mini run. I found a lot of the concepts it worked on (resurrection, mind control, etc.) quite interesting, although I ended up feeling the execution didn't delve too deeply into them. It's an story I might want to reread and pick apart at some point, though.
JLA: Tower of Babel. Yeah, THAT arc lol (also part of my Talia-reading). I also read JLA Secret Files and Origins #3 (in May, though), which shows Talia's whole thoughts on it as she steals the plans + some of the consequences the whole thing has for the other bats whose teammates no longer trust them (Dick, Tim, Barbara) + the wording of Bruce's contingency plans (which btw includes acceptance of lethal methods against Clark lol)... he certainly got off easy after this añsdlkfjasdf. Honestly, imo, the most selfish, cowardly thing he did was walking out before the JLA could tell him they'd voted him out. I know he and the comics probably won't frame it like that afterwards, but that's how it felt to me. The very least he could've done is face his teammates.

I gotta be honest Chief, your fics and headcanons are my absolute favourite
You have such a clear (and realistic) understanding of Bart's persona and tbh if Jay and Bart were given more screentime during his time with building the cosmic treadmill I feel like AAIT would be EXACTLY like what would have happened
(You absolutely nailed chapter 10 with Bart and Barry's conversation btw, your understanding of them is WILD)
Seeing you post a new update on Ao3 or on here just makes me so happy because you really make us think about certain aspects of Bart we've never really thought of before
In short, you're awesome. Keep doing what you're doing, but most of all, have fun with it!
omg (/// ̄ ̄///) wow !!! thank u so much, this is really incredible for me read 😳 like sure i try to keep my writing relatively rooted in some type of YJ / real world / comics blend of realism because it rlly motivates me to develop those concepts/HCs in those contexts soooo much, but its always an underlying type of worry whether i’m carrying it out properly in any way or if it’s even interesting, so im rlly so glad that u enjoy it :) <33
i rlly appreciate ur kind words especially since i try to go for that balancing act between wanting to explore different/“new” themes and plot but also attempting to keep it somewhat “real” . Idk this is the type of stuff that rlly speaks to me so the fact that u mentioned this, it’s very encouraging !
it’s funny, the biggest cause of delay to the AAIT update was the barry bart scene, especially since it was building up to that point. idk if it’s because my flash fam fics reading is limited to bart centric fics or not, but because of bart’s background it’s like there is an overcompensation that sometimes the general dynamics there are just too positive/stable for me, even (if not especially) for a super hero/powered family. I love conflict and tension and all that and i think it’s realistic to have that in a loving family as well. even for generally amazingly good ppl like jay. to be fair those fics r usually feel good/comfort stories so it makes sense, but for characters like bart who i think has some type of edge to him (lol) i just think conflict suits him a lot 😂 because he is someone who seems to be easy to get along with and broadly seems so well integrated!! but he also just can’t be removed from things like his in series origin story and his literal childhood, which i think is just such an incredibly interesting contrast to how he’s settling in in his current time and leads to a lot of cool stories. it’s like so many ppl seem to agree on, it’s rlly easy for his peers/friends/family to forget or not even know about his background, so to them some of his actions/thoughts can randomly appear inexplicable, whereas to the audience, they’d make so much sense. That type of dissonance is just so cool and makes for interesting fic material !
anyway i’m getting way carried away lol, thank u so much again !! this really made my day ❤️

superboy man of tomorrow 2 liveblog lets GOOOOO
obviously spoilers ahead
the cover is exactly how i feel about this guy. yes. squish him. he is pocket-sized. i will pick him up and squeeze him like a stress toy <3
Tumblr media
every panel of kon getting hurt tbh (and for fellow kon whumpers. its a fucking FEAST.) <3 but also - that post going around that says ttk cant deflect energy, this is delightful acknowledgement of that. all my homies love when the ttk shatters like an old coke bottle.
Tumblr media
obsessed with all the panels about him talking about trying to do this with ~style~, but also getting his ass beat and feeling like this is actually a workout. yes my child. tell me it's difficult. overcome <3
"this is what i wanted. me, on my own, against the scum of the universe" baby no
"no one is coming to save me. not clark, not tim, not cassie, not bart... not even kelex." BABY NO but also. prettiest boy in the galaxy. look at this shit.
Tumblr media
the argument about not letting innocent people get hurt. kon you are . such a good person. i love you. u just never falter
intergalactic cloning lore!!! kon finding people who share shocking similarities with him!! i dont often like random characters but i'll admit i'm a fan of these guys. i'm even bothering to remember their names unlike how i treat most side characters (sorry. im a bad comic fan. however. there are so many fucking side characters. do you really expect me to remember everyones name who stays in a comic for less than 3 issues). anyways go pira! these guys are already bonding, i love them and want the best for them. thats right babes you take down that empire. maybe listen to kon about uhhhhhh not letting everyday civilians die in the property damage though. pls.
also there seem to be similarities with some of starfire's backstory? what is it with these alien races who want to clone, splice dna, and/or genetically alter existing races fr. kon and kory should bond over this i think.
kon has sooo much respect for his friends. i love that he keeps mentioning them :') this boy is a bonafide bff. ALSO. HAVE SOME RESPECT FOR YOUR OWN RESOURCEFULNESS HONEY... YOU GOT THIS!!!
Tumblr media
"they think i'm just a weapon? well, if both sides are looking for a fight, they're in luck -- i'm just itching to show them what the house of el has to offer." YEAH BABY YOU ARE A PROUD PART OF THE HOUSE OF EL. YOU HAVE A FAMILY. <3 <3 <3
his dorky awkward little grin. ohhh my goddddddddddd. hes so fucking proud of himself. hes teaching them :') he thinks hes such a good role model. im going to squeeze him to death.
Tumblr media
"i start to think about what conner kent would do AND ITS INFINITELY COOLER" YOU GO BABY. im so fucking obsessed with this. im having so much goddamn fun with this issue actually. they saw kon stans and they gave us exactly what we wanted. i feel so seen
Tumblr media
whos ready to punch through a space fleet. me. im ready. im ready to watch you have the time of your goddamn life next issue.
overall i REALLY like this issue! i don't usually love the whole, "solo series in space" thing because it seems like an excuse to separate characters from the main cast and isolate them and make any growth happen outside of their friendships on earth, which often ends up pretty meh. however. this is fun and engaging and kon references his friends enough that i'm cautiously optimistic.
i do hope kon runs into other mainline characters at some point in this series though; anything to ground this more into main canon and make sure character development ties back to the main series.

Heyy it's yj anon
With my midterms officially over, I can finally make time to read again. Thank you for the help with No Man's Land; I'm not well-versed with storylines prior to the 2010s unless regarding specific characters...but I'm working on it.
I initially started off as a Damian fan and only read stories that pertained to him and Talia (it's been rough). I read Red Robin on a whim after seeing some of my Twitter mutuals speak so highly of the series, and I absolutely loved the storyline (minus the last few issues; I also hate how Tam was treated. It was fairly iffy throughout the run, but it was further emphasized in the final issues; there is so much to say about the entire mess that was love interests, but that's for another day). The art style is nice as well, I understand why people are so fond of Tim during that era. Though I figured with no prior knowledge of Tim's character, it was a rough place to begin understanding his characterization. So, I started reading some of his older material, and it's been very interesting!!! I just started Robin 93, but Young Justice has taken up a majority of my attention. The silliness of the first issue with dumb gags about nuns in a station wagon filled with explosives, Tornado finding the trio so annoying it brought forth whatever humanity was left in him...I just couldn't stop scrolling. Safe to say, I am fairly invested in Tim (and Bart, he's just so younger-cousin-coded it's endearing), I plan to go back and read his Robin run (along with Impulse) once winter break allows me the time to properly read and analyze.
I haven't been following you long, so I'm unsure if you've answered this question prior, but what initially got you into Tim's character? (that wording sounds a little off, sorry.) But besides that, I hope you're doing okay and that midterms have been going well! Midterms beat me to a pulp, so I hope all is good on your end lolol
oh man i’m sorry this is so late! i had wanted to get around to answering this when you sent it but i got distracted. glad to hear your midterms are finally over! mine are too, thankfully T_T and of course! happy to help!
red robin was an interesting run… tim is Quite Annoying there and his relationship with tam (and um. women in general there) was a bit Eh. i used to like it but i think that was just the pretty art influencing me LMAO by now it’s just Meh especially because of the way he treats tam and steph and just generally acts. but again you are right that it is a Rough Place for his character. though i would also say that were it not for the grief and general dramatics of the situation, it’s probably reasonably honest? for his character i mean but that’s just me hehe. you’ll see some hints of it in robin 1993 i think but young justice 1998 really helps soften some of it just because it is a more light-hearted one! it’s definitely a lot of fun! i need to pick up my reading for it again tbh but i’m torn between that and reading for diana.. alas
oooh what got me into tim… initially i didn’t like him! i was into jason when i first got into dc and my exposure to tim wasn’t great… i got more accustomed to him through fics but it’s always been a bit grudging on my end LMAO, more of like a ‘i can fix him’ type of situation or at least one where his flaws—because he has Many—are highlighted and confronted. or sometimes assumed to have been taken care of, which is an assumption i welcome when it comes to my own fics. that is a large part of why i like him actually—that he has sooooo many issues. i’m veryyy critical of him HAHA it’s kind of why i’m turning away from whump fics regarding him, just because i’m like… he is not an angel compared to the others LMAOOOO so… yeah. it’s reluctant. and honestly these days </3 he annoys me LMAOOOOOOO it’s weird i know but. he’s like a chew toy to me
ANYWAY thank you sm for this ask!!! hope you’re doing well!! take care of yourself!!!

ok so. long list, you can pick and choose, yknow the drill. im a curious person. anyways!!! for the ask game: 7, 10, 25, 26, 35, 43, 48, 65, and Get It Together, Boys for 76, please! <3 <3 <3
Bean, you are such a gift 💖 We all know I'm going to answer all of these, both for you and because they're fun!!!
7. How do you choose which POV to write from?
The POV chooses me actually 😂 it's never really something I consciously decide? There's usually just someone whose inner dialogue I think we need to be hearing the most and that's usually the POV I slide to (which has also backfired on me before, because when I wrote the first chapter of the chokehold damitim fic it wasn't supposed to be damitim at all but being in Damian's perspective made me realize it had to be adkjfadsjkfl I'm gonna have to stay out of Damian's perspective in the jaytim version tbh)
10. Cltr+f "blinks" on your WIP & copy paste the first sentence/paragraph that comes up
The damitim fic is actually literally the only fic with unposted content that has the word blinks in it?? This is from the next chapter:
Tim looks up at him, rolls his eyes in a flash of green, and sighs, “Jesus, Damian. I’m an adult, I can cross the street without you holding my fucking hand.”  Damian blinks at him once, twice, and then he moves. He walks around Tim, leaving him in front of the bed, and feels Tim’s eyes on him as he makes his way to the microwave and pulls out his dinner.
25. What fic do you wish you got more of a response on?
What Are You Waiting For? Honestly I just love the way it flows and the writing, but also it isn't finished and I haven't updated it in like two months so I'm not really surprised lmao
26. Which of your fics would you call your wildest ride?
probably Non-Refundable Plans because the way it keeps bouncing from funny to serious and also all of the unhinged behavior from everyone all around 😂 I would make an argument for Rooftops and Bookshops because of the before and after, but I also hate the writing in that fic now. Seriously, it's one of my least favorite works now.
What I can tell you is that the fic that will be the wildest ride is Know Yourself. No doubt in my mind.
35. What is one essential thing to remember when writing a villain?
The villain HAS TO HAVE A GOOD REASON FOR DOING WHAT THEY'RE DOING!!!! This is SO important to me. "Every villain is the hero of their own story" NO. NO THEY AREN'T. THEY DON'T NEED TO BE! SOME VILLAINS ARE TOTALLY FINE BEING THE VILLAIN AND I LOVE THAT FOR THEM!! IT'S ACTUALLY ONE OF MY FAVORITE TROPES "YOU WANT ME TO BE THE BAD GUY? FINE." LIKE YESDSSSDDFSDFAJFJK AS LONG AS THEY CAN JUSTIFY THEIR ACTIONS TO THEMSELVES THAT IS A GOOD VILLAIN. WE JUST NEED TO UNDERSTAND WHY THEY'RE DOING WHAT THEY'RE DOING.
43. Do you take a sadistic joy in whumping your characters, or are you more the "If you hurt them I would kill everyone and then myself" kind of person?
Oh, I saw this question and was like "there's no way anyone doesn't know the answer to this." 😂 I whump them to death daily. I whump them for breakfast, I whump them at work, I whump them while I'm sleeping. I'm actually whumping them rn in my head tbh 💖 Sadistic joy. It's like a stim toy to me.
48. What do you look for in a beta?
Someone who's going to be honest! Point out my typos, tell me if phrasing is clunky or doesn't work, tell me if a CHUNK of writing isn't necessary and needs to go. I want to make it better. But it is also lovely to hear the things that work! I basically love a beta who points out the things they like just as much as the things they don't (which doesn't necessarily mean it has to be an even mix instead of one more than the other, I just think of it like an art critique)
65. Tell us about what you’re most looking forward to writing – in your current project, or a future project
I'm looking forward to GETTING MY SHIT TOGETHER ON THE KONBART FIC I REALLY WANT TO FINISH IT AJKSDFALSK I LOVE WRITING BART AND I LOVE WRITING KON AND I LOVE WRITING THEM BEING IN LOVE
76. Did you have any ideas that didn’t make the final cut of Get It Together, Boys?
I wrote that fic in like three days aksdjflaks honestly not really? But looking back at it, I would've really liked to dig into their book club a little! It would've been fun to show some of their conversations about books.
Thank you thank you thank you Bean 💖 I hope you enjoyed the responses!!

There’s this post of someone saying that their ex’s family invited them to dinner or something. Just like as a substitute for the ex who wasn’t going to be there.
Just imagine that but with Steph and the Bats? Like Tim goes to spend Christmas Eve with the Young Justice before spending Christmas Day with the BatFam. Dick’s pissed because usually everyone’s around for Christmas Eve: a hang over from his family’s Christmas traditions. So he just. Invites Steph?? And her mom for good measure??
Or Tim backs out of family dinner or game night or w/e to go out with Kon and/or Cassie and Bart and Damian just. Invites Steph. Because you know Damian gets along better with Steph because they worked together he, Dick, and Steph when Bruce was gone.
Just in general, Damian being 100% willing to replace Tim with Steph. It’s an ongoing joke kind of. “I like your ex more than you” to his face.
Tbh he’d probably say something more like “Father could you not have adopted Brown as opposed to Drake? She really is more tolerable.”
Which buts Bruce in a kinda awkward position because he really was an ass to Steph and here is his pickiest child saying that he preferred Steph to both Jason—whom B nearly lost his soul for and uses tactics he’d thought Damian would like—and Tim—the kid who brought my him back from the brink and also one of the most competent people he knows.

tbh i stilllllll do think it was a forced cop out to make davis go oh so you never loved me after all, huh, chloe??????? and kills jimmy like that
bc. i mean, people did tell davis she’s not in love with you, but davis just. didn’t listen, bc why else would chloe travel with davis like that. and davis just didn’t really notice chloe’s discomfort at times.
but like. i still wanted to believe in the good in davis even in the final episode. when davis is like ‘chloe i’m sorry, but you’re not working anymore, i have to die’, that felt to me like the davis that was introduced in the first episode was there, clinging on, however weakly.
but i guess chloe going i stayed with davis to protect clark, i only loved you, was the final nail in the coffin, so he just snapped.
and the doomsday part of him really was more who he truly was after all.
but, mm, part of me is just like, if you had kept a hero at hand, bart/dinah/ollie, maybe davis wouldn’t have snapped. bc jimmy/chloe might not have had that conversation, which ended in both jimmy and davis’ death

Young Justice: Phantoms Finale Death and Rebirth reaction
simple version: ...eh. good, could've been better. maybe i set my expectations too high
long version:
holy shit that was a frustrating speech. clark isn't there to rule, motherfucker
honestly? i expected the whole dick wasn't dead thing. literally no way he did die. unsurprising
m'gann tricking the zods with an illusion? neat. forgot that was a possibility
oh shit, actually coordinating their events! woohoo!
"rocket didn't make it" YEAH RIGHT LMAO
love how they were all "no time to mourn" 100% expected that
KON'S FLASHBACKS WARMED MY HEART SO MUCH. LIKE MM. THEY R FAMILY!
the fight scene with everyone coming in? epic. loved that part tbh. dick directing everyone <3 love him. YOINK! bart allen my darling
m'gann fucking with everyone's minds? go m'gann fuck em up!!
i guess... m'gann was just showing prominent memories with her due to a "heat of the moment" thing... but also not. because those are all romantic memories. there's a Team they were in together. like hmmm i really wanted more than just them in a romantic light
ELS VERSUS ZODS was pretty cool but the els are fucking dorks oml "for Earth" in UNISON. dorks.
THROW THEM ALL INTO THE PHANTOM ZONE YES? (the reveal that they were not actually all in the phantom zone felt a little disappointing and didn't impact me the way i thought it would've? it felt like an afterthought)
m'gann using the mindspace to have some LAST WORDS with m'comm is fantastic
everyone arriving after most of it's over is just so funny to me but i'm half relieved they didn't play that for laughs jfjhd
BB! GLAD YOU'RE DOING OKAY!
JON!!!!! JON BABY. YOU ARE A DARLING SWEET SUPER LITTLE BOY. OH JON.
sweet, wedding invitation!
congrats on finally being able to get fucking married to each other honestly
i love the collection of people here. batman cracked me up for some reason
dinah talking about the sanctuary... "oh fuck didn't the sanctuary-" (checking tumblr later, indeed, the sanctuary did. i also forgot it involved heroes in crisis. which i am not quite looking forward to. mostly cause people die. interested in how they handle the interrogation-style stuff)
batman in the corner. love that guy
man they had a nice plan for the kryptonians and everything.
good for m'comm i guess?? he gets his nice peace planet away from everything? OH SHIT CHAMELEON BOY'S HOME PLANET? WHAT ARE THESE IMPLICATIONS?
glad they got to go home. good for them
OH SHIT IS THAT TIMSTEPH? WAIT WHAT HAPPENED TO TIMCASSIE?
i'm like yay timsteph! but also eh??? what????
RINGBEARER JON! BABY!
honestly i focused super little on the wedding itself like congrats on getting married nd stuff but i have other priorities!
that post-credit scene was adorable. have fun being married
ok mary wasn't a surprise. the name black mary is interesting.
KARA? KARA ZOR-EL? HONEY? DARLING? OH MAN OH MAN. SHITS GETTING WILD.
and then it ended and my expectations were not met but i will watch the next season because they have me Intrigued by some points made
congrats on tying up most of the strings you set up but there's too many of them loose rn and i don't think the showmakers are planning to wrap them up which is disappointing
felt like the wedding took up too much of the time? maybe it's cause i didn't grow w yj that i don't feel so connected to supermartian but i wanted more Plot
overall really the most i can give it is 7/10 and that's slightly stretching it

does t-shirt conner and 90s conner and new conner all feel like different people to you, or is it just me? i know things get written, rewritten and rebooted but. they all just feel like different characters. it's weird.
Like... yes and no? It's complicated.
(Sorry in advance I'm starting out with mostly text citations rather than images, but theres images later. Also this got incredibly long. Sorry!)
Because at a glance I definitely agree there are differences between each of those eras of Conner, things that are pretty clearly apparent when you just pick up a comic from each timeframe
But like, at this point where I've read a lot of Kon stuff and see like... the connecting points between these Kons with context, I think it's not hard to rationalize where the changes in personality come from (even if the writers might not have put that same amount of thought into it that I have tbh) which can make it feel more like 'this is a person who is changing over time as he goes through life because of specific things he went through' rather than just 'this is a completely separate character suddenly when the writers changed' (like... the separate writers thing is more how Jason feels than any other character to me)
90's Kon comes fresh into the world unexperienced but wanting so badly to prove himself and be Superman, but he's just not quite there yet because of his age and naivety. He knows a lot of things because of Cadmus-implanted knowledge, but he doesn't necessarily understand all of them. He's immature, kinda rude sometimes bc he purposefully bases himself/his personality on what's popular (something gone into in Superboy Vol. 4 #83 when he spends a whole issue lamenting that he's lost his coolness) because he cares a lot about how people perceive him, but has a good heart and wants to see the best in people (that's kinda how he got into the damn Knockout situation in the first place, he was so convinced she couldn't have actually committed the murder she was accused of. She took advantage of his trust/desire to see good in others). He's fun and doesn't take things too seriously until it comes down to the wire, and he knows that's a flaw (Superboy Vol. 4 #91, with the "I can't believe this is my life. Wake me up, please. This isn't fun anymore.") and eventually that 'living life his own fun way' thing bites him in the ass a few too many times.
It's the combination of a few things that'd happened earlier (Tana's death during Sins of Youth, The arc with Jim's death and rebirth + just generally everything with Amanda Spence, Bart's half-death thing during Our Worlds at War) with Superboy Vol. 4 #100 and Graduation Day, that all leads to/marks the specific change in him that leads into 't-shirt Conner' even before the Lex/Clark reveal takes stuff a step further.
In Superboy Vol. 4 #100, because he had been living on his own in Suicide Slum with his public identity... he ends up putting his whole apartment building in danger when someone targeting him plants a bomb there. That's why he agrees to move in with Ma & Pa and adopt a civilian identity, because his carelessness with his identity displaced an entire building's worth of people of their homes and cost someone their life. Then, pretty shortly after, Graduation Day happens. He's one of the people who jumps into the action which makes things worse (something Tim angrily points out in their infamous closet scene) and then things go further and Donna dies, Cassie disbands the team because she thinks them not taking things seriously enough got them into the situation in the first place. These things weigh really heavily on him!
Him being a lot more reserved afterwards and kinda shrinking in on himself a bit... doesn't seem that insane to me. All of them saw the events of Graduation Day as a time to grow up. I think Cassie & Bart's specific changes were the ones that made the least sense in this era (and then while Tim was definitely edgier in TT 03 it's also a far less noticeable change than Conner's) but the core of what was going on in Conner's life leading into him revamping himself again does make sense imo. (execution could have been better! far better. But the core idea itself I get). And then when you throw in the Lex/Clark retcon which makes him, already in a place where he's doubting how he's been living his life up to that point, question everything he knows about himself... it does make an amount of sense that he'd just feel different. But I do feel the need to reiterate, he's really not quite as different as I see some people act like and I feel like that stems from the YJ cartoon being the immediate association with 't shirt Conner', even though in the TT 03 run he's still definitely got way more of his personality than that.
Anyways then... ya know plot happens. Luthor takes over and makes him attack his team, Superboy-Prime comes and calls him a fake, he saves everyone but dies in the process during Infinite Crisis. These are situations where a person might not be feeling most like themselves.
Then he comes back, and when he's back is definitely an era I enjoy more in terms of 'times he's wearing the t-shirt' overall, because you can see that he's kinda taking a step back from the problems he was going through + not handling the best way early in the TT 03 era, and re-examining them from a slightly more mature lens. Like, he's not suddenly always handling things perfectly as evidenced by the whole 'List of what Superman does and list of what Lex Luthor does' thing, but it's definitely a slightly more rational/mature approach to dealing with that situation. He's not just going 'agh i was born evil......' now its more 'okay lets... lets see who I actually act more like-'
That arc specifically also does something that I think really rings true to an aspect I brought up earlier about his 90's characterization: puts a focus in on how he's trying to see if there's any good in Lex. That's why he's seeking him out in those first few issues. Obviously he comes to the eventual conclusion that no, there isn't this guy fucking sucks, but it's still that attempt to hope that really does feel like the same Conner when he's just grown up a decent amount. It's not blind faith like things were with Knockout, but a regular hope that someone could be better that feels like it stems from that same place inside him.
In the following stuff once he's thrown the journal with the lists out and come to his own conclusions about how he's never going to be like Lex, he's walking this new line of 'Okay, but I also can't just try to live my life as Clark, so how am I gonna live my life?' It's him wondering about just kinda... who exactly he is. What it is he's doing, what his sense of direction's gotta be.
Tumblr media
(Superboy Vol. 5 #6)
The other day I'd made a big post talking about Kon's view on wanting to be Superman, and some of that feels relevant around now. Here Kon is at this point in his life where he definitely wants that title one day, but he's not in a rush to get there. And post-Boy of Steel he is acknowledging the distinctions between himself and Clark more, but he's still choosing to stay in Smallville and loosely follow Clark's path.
He also kinda re-defines his reasoning for coming to Smallville in this run to separate it from just trying to be like Clark in Boy of Steel, into more... looking for answers about how his life could have been if he'd been more like Clark.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Superboy Vol. 5 #11)
This ending to me is him accepting that he's gotta find his own path rather than try to find answers about a life he didn't life. He's a hero and not normal and that's okay, he's gonna stay in Smallville and be his weird hero self with his weird friends and not worry about the stuff that doesn't apply to him. He's not Clark, but Smallville's his home now too.
Which is why what YJ 2019 then did with him is actually really fascinating to me. It builds off some of these different thoughts he was having in ways that like... sorta kinda almost make sense, it's like the last piece of the 'I don't need to live my life in a pre-defined way' idea clicked.
Like... if we consider the YJ 2019 flashbacks as picking up shortly after Superboy Vol. 5 ended (which is definitely the implication) then Conner has come to terms with that stuff I just said above, but he's still living his day-to-day life in a relatively unchanged way. He's still living at the farm and going to school and all that kinda normal life stuff outside of times he's actively being Superboy.
But when his teacher here talks it all really hits him that even though he likes living in Smallville, sitting around playing Clark Kent Jr. during the school days because he feels like that's the path he should be going down/the rules he thinks he should follow... just isn't the best use of his time. Kinda connecting back to that 'sense of purpose' thing from his talk with Tim, him feeling like what he was at the time doing in Smallville wasn't quite the answer. And he even reiterates he only started like going to school like this in the first place because of trying to be like Clark.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Young Justice (2019) #3)
So this is kinda him having a taste of rebellion again, after spending a decent amount of time trying to more closely fit the mold of Clark's life. Not necessarily rejecting being at all like Clark or life in Smallville in general or anything like that, but making a choice to figure out his own path picking and choosing the bits he likes (Smallville itself, The farm, Ma) and leaving behind the parts he doesn't want (his secret identity being so similar to Clark bc that's the only way I can read him putting on a leather jacket again as he walks straight out of school, going to school in general)
That's I think a big reason why while he's stuck on Gemworld he decides to switch back into something more like his original outfit, it's him returning more to just what he likes and how he wants to do things which is closer to how he lived life back in the 90s, but going at it with some more maturity from having spent time more reserved trying to follow in footsteps. It's a full circle thing, it's arriving back closer to his original self but with more intent this time so of course it's not exactly the same.
i guess the tldr:
90's Kon was his own rebellious experimental thing but he also really didn't know what he was doing yet because he was so new to the world -> early 2000s Kon was so concerned with how others perceived him -> 2003 Kon was having to adjust to a new way of living and new revelations about who he really is -> post-resurrection Kon was trying to define who he was outside of just Lex/Clark's clone and figure out what path he was going to go down -> YJ 2019 Kon is re-approaching his original self with all the experiences he now has under his belt and kinda a new purpose especially in the aftermath of spending a decent chunk of time stuck separated from his loved ones
So like... because in my mind it just kinda clicks how all these different versions of Kon connect into one another, they don't feel quite as separate to me? If that uhhh.. makes sense.

I'm not sure if you've already said this but I'm asking anyway. Since you're the local Flashfam expert and also a PJO lover (you have no idea how happy I am that we like the same things), what godly parents would the Flashfam have? Like, all of the fam. Counting characters like Linda and Iris
And it'd also be cool if you assigned a cabin for the Titans and/or the Young Justice too-
I mean it has to be Hermes. It literally has to be Hermes for the speedsters. Like, maybe we throw in a Roman twist and say Mercury every once in a while, but that's just gotta be the answer.
Jay literally wears Hermes' helmet. Max named himself after Mercury. Barry wears Hermes' winged shoes and has wings on his head. Same with Wally. Jay is also literally given Hermes'/Mercury's powers on Earth-2.
And it makes sense, it really does. God of travellers? Check. The winged aesthetic? Check. God of messengers? Check! God of tricksters, liars and thieves? Look, the speedsters are all of the above just in a VERY chaotic good way. They don't rob people but also when Wally found out that the museum had the bones of a fallen soldier from another country without said countries permission or consent? HE STOLE THEM BACK. Bart has absolutely no qualms taking things, Max has been a thief in the past, Jay and Barry work by pirate rules aka 'if I defeat you, I get your stuff', ect. They don't do armed robbery and they don't like stealing from random citizens, but bad guys are free game.
Iris I have to go on the nose and say Iris because Iris is the goddess of messengers and rainbows, and Iris is literally a reporter? So her whole thing is spreading information? While looking stunning.
Linda is an Athena kid 125%. Linda writes books, she was a kickass investigative reporter, she went to med school, she knows more about speedster biology and how it works than literally anyone else in her home dimension, she regularly fights aliens with no powers and just whatever weapons she finds laying around. Linda is intelligent, she's cunning and witty and she will cut a bitch.
Joan is a Hestia kid. Just... family, love, warmth. Need I say more?
As for the Titans... well, Donna is already taken care of. Garth... is technically also taken care of I think?? Atlanteans exist in Greek mythology so Garth is just the same I think. Roy... fuck it, Ares. I said what I said come at me bro. For Dick I would want to go with a minor god or goddess, I like the idea of him being a child of Psyche (Goddess of the human soul) because he is very human and he understands people on a level that might be considered supernatural. Lilith would be the oracle. Karen would be a child of Hephaestus and Mal would 100% just be a guy who can see through the mist and has a shield.
Gar is the last son of Pan because that's cool AF. Raven would be the daughter of Tartarus I think. Vic would be a son of Apollo. I know it's really easy to go for Hephaestus for Vic but honestly, the key part of Vic's story to me isn't that he's a cyborg, it's that he's human. He's a survivor, who, against all odds, received bat shit crazy medical treatment from his father and survived a fatal accident. I like the idea that Apollo saw a guy doing crazy stuff to advance medical science and was like 'Hey there 😉😉😉😉'. Also pre accident Vic was a football player which has a lot to do with aim, so idk, I just like it. Starfire would be a demigod child of the sun deity on her home planet.
For Young Justice, Cassie and Bart are already covered. Kon would be a legacy of Nemesis (Lex) and a legacy of a deity from Krypton. Cissie would be a daughter of Ares and a legacy of Apollo. Greta would be a child of Morpheus. Tim would be the son of Lachesis. Slobo is Slobo. Anita.... Tbh I want to say she's a legacy of Aphrodite? Love is a huge part of her backstory and I dislike giving the non powered characters godly parentage that explains away their abilities. They worked hard for those skills!

I mean Thad did murder Bart, a being of pure sunshine, goodness and joy so I also would do deeply unspeakable things in revenge. Though I've always maintained that making Thad pure evil was the least interesting thing they could have done and all the fluff sunshine and light of the Impulse/YJ98 version of Bart (and his world) remains better and more interesting than any of the DARK! GRITTY! REALISM! FOR ADULTS!!! stuff that has passed in the 20 years since
I'd say Bart has a lot more going for him than just sunshine, but yeah his murder was very intentionally a Shitty Move. From both DC editorial and Inertia/the Rogues. And definitely agree making Thad "just kind of evil now" ended up being so boring.
Final Crisis is bleak as hell because the Rogues are getting revenge for a murder that they themselves committed, and their main motivation isn't that they regret killing Bart, but more that since they killed the Flash they've been on everyone's shit list, and if they can kill the "key mover" in Bart's murder they can somehow absolve themselves in the eyes of the wider public. idk and all the Rogues do some extremely gritty murders in that same issue: Weather Wizard explodes a man by creating a tornado in his stomach, Captain Cold gets Heatwave to burn his abusive father to death (which tbh doesn't seem to effect him that much), along with just general deadly electrocutions and fires and freeze/mirror attacks. So it's already kinda hard to root for them, especially when they aren't targeting Inertia for any particularly "just" reason. I'm not saying there needs to be good guys or bad guys to make a story worthwhile, but Rogues Revenge is such a bummer to read because it's just a bunch of shitty people killing each other for ridiculously petty and uninteresting reasons. Inertia's reasoning for killing Weather Wizard's baby is that Zoom said "you gotta create tragedy", so Inertia saw a baby and was like "yeah I can work with this". Like its just mindless violence the whole time its so lame.

Hey there! So I want to start writing some fics for bart and I want to make sure they are as accurate as possible and he's kinda the main point of your blog so I was wondering if you could give me like a rundown of his character, how he behaves, what his trauma is like stuff like that. If it's to long to post let me know and I'll message you privately
hey :) that’s exciting, looking forward to reading them 🤩 honestly i could give u a run down but i do think a lot of things i feel strongly about r largely personal interpretations of his character from what we’ve seen + extra trivia, especially on things like trauma. Ill edit later to link u to some think pieces/previous asks where i fleshed out some specifics about his characterisation/background cause honestly to fully answer this question id probably end up writing the equivalent of a fic 😭 lol but the thing is, even if i don’t entirely agree with others views on the matters, other approaches/perspectives on him can lead to really interesting plot/character exploration/stories that id still love to read about! so whilst i might have a general outline on his characterisation, i think it’s also important to go along with what u personally interpret/feel. Also it depends whether ur specifically asking about his yj tv or comics iteration? Though honestly, the core aspects of my answers to both would be pretty similar. But i’ll answer in terms of YJ as that’s very much the point of my blog like u mentioned lol
i think what might also be worth mentioning are traps that some writers (including myself) can fall into that r worth avoiding and why:
- adhd/speed is his full personality
like yes he can be excitable/hyper with his head in the clouds and yes he can be cute about it, but that’s not his only personality trait, he can be serious about things, cocky/bit of an asshole, but also sweet and sincere/speak his mind, but also dubious. He’s multifaceted/complex that way (layered just like anyone can be tbh). It all depends on the situation and seeing how he acts in the series it a good call to see how it can be mirrored/further portrayed in other situations.
- he’s a character that needs babysitting
again yes, it’s common that a lot of his friendships/relationships have a tolerance type of aspect to it, but people he’s at the very least good friends with genuinely like him and have a dynamic that’s on equal footing, some authors can accidentally infantilise him too much which is just not the way to go with him.
- he’s so traumatised that he needs therapy asap
this isn’t to say life is a breeze for him or that he doesn’t/can’t have deep issues. I mean he literally comes from a post-apocalyptic society, that’s pretty troubling. It has lead to traits like how he’s notably desensitised to things like death, has sticky fingers (tendency to steal), doesn’t really have any problem with lying nor confrontation. But from what we have seen he seems to be incredibly adaptable to situations as well as very happy/comfortable in his current time. And i really don’t think the answer to why he can live a comfortable life in the present is because he’s had therapy. I don’t think he’s visibly stuck on any particular trauma (not that he doesn’t have any, they just don’t weigh him down as much as it could) and that as a result of his background, he has a much higher than average threshold for what it takes to get him to break down. I think just because he’s not caught up on what could be personal traumas, doesn’t mean it doesn’t come without it’s issues. Being desensitised to that extent can come with its own problems and i think he has a different set of values than the average person on the team. I think an interesting approach to this is that his “issues” would come about in unexpected/uncomfortable ways/circumstances that can affect his normal relationships like with his family (jay/barry particularly).
- he has complexes about his intelligence/capability/being a hero
personally, i really don’t think this is/should be a trait of his. He IS intelligent/capable and a hero point blank period. Just because he might have an unconventional way of doing/seeing things, doesn’t mean it brings these things into question, atleast, in terms of how HE views himself. Doesn’t mean others won’t have their issues with it for whatever reason, but generally he’s a pretty confident guy to the point of being cocky. Not in the sense that he’s a total dick about it, but because he knows he’s that good and is proud of it. Now this is an interesting trait because i think it actually plays quite nicely with his airheaded/strange moments. I don’t think he fakes them necessarily, maybe plays it up but only because he’s having fun and LIKES having fun too, as well as because he doesn’t want to advertise certain things because of whatever agenda he may have.
a lot of this is a mix of what i consider instrinsic to his characterisation but also personal interpretations. Just because i think he can be cocky, doesn’t mean i don’t think he doesn’t have any insecurities. If anything reading a fic about it would be so interesting (and there have been many that have dealt with it amazingly). All these traits/views don’t exist in binary and can be nicely complimented with other takes/interpretations of them. As long as ur passionate about the story and his character, i think ultimately u can write a really cool story which id be so excited to read. Even if he’s just going clothes shopping and nothing would arise to all that i’ve mentioned, it would still be fun to read. It’s ultimately all just fun :)
Everything i described, can sound a bit confusing, so i’m sorry about that lol. I hope the asks I will link will help too! I think checking out his TV tropes section (Kid Flash II) is also useful, it gives a pretty good rundown on a fair amount of his traits.
here’s also a part of another section that i really like too lol
Tumblr media
in terms of general facts, these might also help:
- he’s gay.
- he does go to school (he was enrolled pretty soon after his arrival to the present) .
- he has brown hair (i’m sorry but whenever i read he has red hair i literally frown LOL).
- he is the son of meloni thawne (this one is more his general comic lore but everyone pretty much takes it as canon so, since we are on this topic he has a half brother owen mercer (son of captain boomerang) and his cousin is Jenni (daughter of Dawn)).
- he doesn’t know every single thing that happens to every hero/person in the future, especially since the timeline has completely changed from his original one. What he does know, is subject to debate and it’s always interesting to see what direction different authors take it. What i believe has direct confirmation from greg as well as was suggested in the series is that he for example didn’t know artemis was undercover and that kaldur was a double agent. This could suggest literally anything (they died during that time/they die much later down the line/ they survived but alliances became vague under the mutual threat of a world apocalypse etc)
- he doesn’t want to return to his “original time” it kind of goes without saying but it’s been made pretty clear in the series. He feels relatively at home in the present. Doesn’t necessarily mean he doesn’t miss some things/people from his past though.
- whilst he is pretty lax about having a secret identity, he still has one. Jay doesn’t have one and is a public hero. Do with that what u will lol
- this one is only “suggested” based on the fact that no one saw him off when he left to the present. It’s suggested that his parents are dead.
for now i can’t think of anything else, if i do i’ll edit it in. Hope this was somewhat helpful :)

Part 3/4 for my Core4 Pride illustrations-it’s Kon’s turn in the sun now!
Once again projecting one of my identities onto a favorite character, but I think the Pan label fits Kon pretty will imo-plus the flag color scheme is actually pretty close to his costume color scheme, which I thought was a very fun coincidence! Kon looks very good in pink tbh, I might just draw him like this more often 😌💅✨
Also, this way we have Kon 🤝 Tim Bi/Pan solidarity and I think that’s neat!
In a shocking twist I’m sure none of you saw coming, I also made a Non Binary costume variant as well-you can check it out on my Patreon! Kon also rocks the purple look and now that I’ve done non binary variants for both Kon and Bart, I  kind of want to go back and do one for Tim, as well as for Cassie when I get to her illustration!

in all sinceritea 🍵 tho, basically every beam rotation of an ncaa meet on the sec network/espn that is commentated by kathy johnson clarke is a *masterclass* in excellent gymnastics commentary.
ive always felt like gym commentary is one of those things where if it's really high quality, you tend not to notice it. kathy's really feels like it's PART of the meet you're watching, as opposed to talking heads reacting to footage they're showing you (picking out the names of skills, pointing out deductions but just saying something like 'oh, a little mistake there' or 'yikes, that was a major error' when they fall or even 'they will deduct X tenths for that' if you're really lucky). kathy talks, DURING the routine, about what the judges are looking for (amplitude, hitting and holding positions, hitting handstands on bars, connections on beam, keeping legs together and straight). when a gymnast makes a mistake, kathy not only points out that it was a mistake and what the mistake was, but WHY the gymnast made that mistake (wrong angle punching off of the floor, drifting off the center on beam, missing the release point swinging into a skill on bars, etc.), as someone who never did gymnastics at any level, I find those comments to be very insightful and informative.
one of my absolute favorite things she does, which is exceptionally rare in comparison to other commentators, is how often she draws attention to minute details of form like pointing the feet, hitting oversplits, posture, hand accents, turning out the legs, keeping the shoulders down and back on leaps, etc. she highlights the dance elements of the sport and has a clear respect and appreciation for ballet, whereas tim daggett on nbc will (again, if you're lucky enough to get anything this substantial out of him) touch on something like a gymnast's lines, toepoint etc. tangentially, usually with some coded phrase like "she has that international look that the judges love" (by which he almost always means skinny, and by the way you can have great lines and not be stick thin, and vice versa)
i even feel like her commentary has given me a keener eye as a gymnastics fan for form deductions and finer points of technique than i did before i started following ncaa gym (I watched starting in 2013ish but didn't follow it seriously until the 2016 season). i have a strong dance background so I can spot unpointed or sickled feet and bent knees and incomplete split leaps from a mile away lol, but things like handstand angles on bars, proper vault blocking technique, punching into tumbling passes, regrasping the bars with straight elbows, etc. are all things I had to learn about second-hand. reading in the code of points all deductions for doing that stuff wrong is one thing, actually seeing it and having someone say if it's good or bad is another.
i especially love how beginner-friendly her commentary is, for the reasons i stated above. you don't have to know anything about gymnastics to watch a meet she's calling and follow along and understand what you're looking at. that's so incredibly important for a sport that seems impenetrably complicated at first glance. my mom, who knows next to nothing about gymnastics, has seen like MAYBE 4 ncaa meets on TV. kathy and bart were commentating the second one we ever watched together, and my mom even told me that she loved the way kathy explained things.
she makes it easy to understand without dumbing anything down. she names some of the skills a gymnast is doing in that moment, but that's just punctuation for the more in-depth description and analysis. she doesn't shy away from technical terms, but she doesn't let it get jargony (that's a fine line to walk tbh) and viewers can infer what it generally means based on context.
she also makes a point to be positive and constructive, not to talk about a fall on beam like it's the end of the goddamn world (ahem tim), to acknowledge when a gymnast has improved on something over the course of the season, to point out what the gymnast is doing right as well as the deductions she's incurring (instead of just doing the latter, ahem tim).
there's a reason seasoned gym fans love listening to her just as much. if you haven't noticed by now, we LOVE kathy. her commentary is easy to follow if you don't know gymnastics, but as a gymnastics nerd it's also a joy to watch the meets she calls because she DOES go into detail. the breadth and depth of her knowledge of the sport is incredibly impressive. she gives thorough analysis of routines, we get to hear an expert break down every skill in real time and critique it. and in addition to all that stuff, her enthusiasm for the sport is evident. she reminds me of the things i love most about gymnastics.
tl;dr:
every commentator should have to write a 5 page essay analyzing queen kathy johnson clarke's commentary before they're allowed on the air. it is literally Impossible to do it better than she does, she's the gold standard

Crafty Batkids
Literally. Just batkids doin' crafts. As someone who does..... way too many crafts to list here (I'll send a list if asked but just trust me) I feel like I've gotten a good feel for this.
Dick
My man grew up in a circus, regularly checking ropes and tensions....
Macrame. He's a pro at macrame. Maybe he doesn't do it often, but like. For his friends, he'll sometimes surprise them with lil gifts.
When any of his Titans buds move he makes them those fancy hanging macrame plant holders. Donna and Kori both love them, and have been known to fight over them during white elephant/dirty Santa type gift games.
Probably doesn't have the ability to sit still for long periods of time, so can't do anything that'll unravel if he puts it down. It takes him a long time to finish a project, so he really only buys materials as he starts a new one, and doesn't have any excess stuff lying around his apartment.
Jason
You cannot tell me he doesn't crochet to unwind. Like. Idk if he's any good at it, but he def angry crochets.
Probably has been working on one scarf for like five years
Never has consistent stitches
Likes touching all the yarns at the store
Probably just enjoys squishing the yarn in general tbh. It's slightly more satisfying than ever actually doing anything with the yarn.
Cass
One time Bruce took her to like. Silver Dollar City or somewhere else that had someone with a loom, and she was fascinated. She made him buy her a shawl and then made Tim put together a power point about why she should have a loom.
Bruce ended up caving and buying her one that's skinnier, for like table runners. It's great, because she's mostly fascinated with making gradients in her weaves.
She learned Swedish Weaving (it's a like an embroidery/weaving hybrid) so she could embellish her works.
Mostly gives them out as gifts. She gave one to Selina, who guards it possessively. Harley tried to borrow it once and about lost her fingers.
Probably also learned to make little tassles for the ends
Tim
Attention to detail? Obsession over the minutia? Oh. You know my boy is an epoxy resin artist.
Has a crafting station in his room that's meticulously organized. There's cubbies for pigments, flowers, glitters, bits of ribbons and strings, etc etc
Probably makes all kinds of thing tbh. Phone cases, trinkets, you name it. But pens are his favorites, because they're both simple and practical. There's like a whole army of pens that just... keeps growing in Titans Tower because he always forgets where he's put his.
None of his teammates realize he is the source of the pens. They (Kon, Cassie, Bart) just think the pens are an infestations and/or are pairing up and making baby pens. But Cassie and Bart love them bc ✨aesthetics✨
Probably has a tik tok or an insta where he posts videos of himself de-molding things to soothing lofi tracks. Literally just. All the vibes. It's gorgeous.
Steph
Also all the vibes. She is a bujo/stationary queen.
Her collection is much messier than Tim's, but has a surprising amount of overlap. Sometimes they borrow things from each other, and have collabed on their social accounts (he makes journal covers, she makes them into notebooks, he supplies her with pens, she uses them when making a weekly/monthly set up, etc)
Stickers and glitter everywhere
Probably sponsored.
Canonically draws cute little cartoons in the comics, they absolutely are a regular on her socials and in her bujos.
Duke
For some reason I don't peg him as being as craft-oriented as his closest-in-age sibs? He probably has less expensive coping mechanisms tbh
That being said I can see he would enjoy those stores where you go in and paint pottery and they kiln/glaze it for you? Like he isn't into sculpting it himself, but painting the little kitchenware pieces or statuettes is relaxing.
He paints mugs for all his sibs on their birthdays, and for Alfred.
Alfred probably has a whole army of custom mugs made for him by the kids, now that I'm thinking about it. Like half of them are from Duke, because he doesn't know what else to do with them. There are just so many because it's so simple.....
Kate Kane, Tatsu Yamashiro, and Jeff Pierce also all have mugs. Actually... Lowkey highkey I can see that Tatsu might have introduced Duke to this kind of stuff in the first place? I can see that she would enjoy something simple that you can do while trying to clear out your mind.
Damian
Well. Damian is a gifted artist, but this translates differently into actual crafts. It just does.
He's probably a good printmaker. Not only does this take advantage of his art skills and keen attention to details, but it's one of the oldest artforms still in practice today. Most printmakers develop their techniques by perfecting one of several forms of the art, which have been passed through generations, and have a really firm grip on art history. Those stories would appeal to Damian, in addition to the craft itself.
Damian is the most likely of his siblings to be able to sit still for prolonged periods of time and do a repetitive motion. In fact, it may actually be something he can enjoy if it means he can just zone out for a bit. So, he's probably actually decent at spinning yarn. If the sky is grey and rainy, he drags out a wheel and some pre-sorted rolags and spins yarn, exclusively for Cass, who then weaves it. He enjoys the progression of colors in the fibers as much as she does, and they bond over it.
The feeling of different fibers slipping through his fingers is also really soothing. Bad day? Time to spin some merino, because it slips like water through his touch. Need to feel grounded? Time to spin a cotton blend, because you have to be present enough not to chafe your hands on the rough fibers...
Probably also really good at embroidery, for the same reasons. Plus, it's really satisfying to feel and hear the pbt-psht, pbt-psht of the needle and thread pulling through the taut fabric.
Bruce
Obviously knows how to forge/metalwork. I like to imagine he's also dabbled in lost wax casting.
Probably has little trinkets he made when he was younger scattered around the house. Maybe he donated a few to charity auctions.
Has made rings/jewelry pieces. But doesn't talk about them. (One ring went to Selina, and a pair of earrings went to Talia)
Alfred
The all-talented, all-knowing. There's probably nothing he can't do. He already sews all their outfits. So I mean.
Sometimes it feels really good to have something to stab. I'm not saying he does needle felting, but I'm not saying he wouldn't.
Probably was the one who taught Bruce about lost wax, and the one who helps Damian research about printmakers.
