I really want to do some Scott Pilgrim takes off writing requests, but I'm anxious to write so let's try to get rid of such anxiety! Please request as much as you want, I'll make a list of characters I'll write for now as there are some I feel like I wouldn't write well enough or need to read more about to get more of a feel for their character. I write for all genders and I'll write for poc readers as well, any ideas you want for the reader to be like are welcome!

➴ 𝚆𝙸𝙻𝙻 𝚆𝚁𝙸𝚃𝙴.

⸙ Fluff and Angst, any genres really. I've rarely written angst but want to write it, so I'll try my best!

⸙ Poc readers, do note that I am not poc but I will make sure to do my research before writing. I have a few tumblers I know of that I will use for helping me write poc readers, I'm sure my friend would also be glad to help educate me as well! Criticism and feedback are welcome. ^^

⸙ Readers of all gender, but it depends on the character I'm writing for. If a character is canonically gay please do not request for something romance based with that character if you're the opposite gender as I'm not comfortable with that, an example would be Wallace Wells.

⸙ You can suggest all kinds of things for how you want the reader to be, occupation, hobbies, aesthetics/styles, food taste, personality type, whatever you want and I'll do my best to write it.

⸙ I will write headcannons, prompts and fics!

⸙ I'm more used to writing in third person but I know most reader fics are in second-person, so I'll write a second-person version and third-person version! This is the same for genders, if I really like a fic. I'll write multiple versions for the gender, following the same plot or prompt but with noticable differences.

⸙ This is for anons, if you'd like to claim an emoji or an assortment of such you can just let me know and I'll keep it reserved. Might make an anon page as well!

⸙ I've been thinking about making a Scott Pilgrim OC and writing about them, would you like to read about them? If you do end up liking them I'd love to write x readers with them and stuff, just let me know. (Just something I wanted to mention!)

⸙ I will not write nsfw, it's just I don't think I'd be very good at writing it and I'm uncomfortable. Maybe in the future but for now please do not request nsfw from me, there could be mentions of certain things or hints at it. I'm perfectly fine with it, as long as it's subtle.

Not a big fan of Scott, but I'll still write for him. Who knows maybe I'll make a reader who's a Scott hater for shits and giggles, I have Idea's for an oc and If I do write about him you'll see a lot of him taking jabs at Scott and questioning why Ramona even likes him.

𝚁𝙰𝙼𝙾𝙽𝙰 𝙵𝙻𝙾𝚆𝙴𝚁𝚂

I have a lot of ideas, like perhaps a reader being an evil ex and stuff. I guess that could be spoilers for my oc, since I'm making him an ex! I also want to write a fic with the reader helping Ramona dye her hair and enjoying tea while doing so.

I'll definitely write for Wallace and do my best to portray him, as stated I'll only do romance for male and ftm readers. I could make fics with a female reader that are extremely platonic, friends and stuff. Or a sister reader, maybe Wallace having a sister who loves gossiping with Stacy and Wallace!

I read something and saw how Stephen ends up getting a boyfriend in the novels, so I don't know if he's gay or bisexual since he dated Julie last time I checked. I've seen comments about him being gay, so male and ftm readers only!

Her and Roxy kissing was woah, agh I love them both. I really want to write a drummer reader that could perhaps have some time of rivalry with her, an enemies to lovers fic.

I have some cute idea's, I can't wait to write him along with everyone else. I feel like he'd be the type to see someone and fall in love with them instantly, like perhaps reader is in a rival band and they're really good. He's instantly amazed by their skills and finds himself developing a crush on them!

𝙺𝙽𝙸𝚅𝙴𝚂 𝙲𝙷𝙰𝚄

I'd love to write for her, lots of cute fluff and things of the sort. Especially like helping her paint her nails, sleepovers and gossiping, arcade dates and things of the sort!

Agh, Matthew! I'd love to write for him, I have some idea's. Like reader being an assistant and trying to do their best to help Matthew balance all this work that has now fallen into his hands because he did not think about all the responsibilities to come before he defeated Gideon, ooh also reader who was a band kid and matches Matthews energy!

𝙻𝚄𝙲𝙰𝚂 𝙻𝙴𝙴

I'm scared I might not write him good enough, mainly for dialogue. But I do want to write for Lucas, I might only write for him when requested for a bit until I get more of a feel for his dialogue as well character, and once I get confident enough to write him!

𝚃𝙾𝙳𝙳 𝙸𝙽𝙶𝚁𝙰𝙼

Our favorite Vegan boy, I'd love to write for him. Maybe, something like Reader helping him after the realization of what happened with Wallace. Having to comfort him and stuff, also could have Reader as a band mate or something!

𝙴𝙽𝚅𝚈 𝙰𝙳𝙰𝙼𝚂

Could we possibly consider her an evil ex? I decided to put her in this category because of that but anyways, but yes I'll write for her! Envy is so muah, had anyone seen that one image with the two girls doing each other's makeup. Envy sitting on top of Reader's and doing their makeup, or the other way around. Agh, I find that just so cute!

Female readers for romance only, but I'd love to write for her and omg can't wait. I'm so excited, I don't have a lot of ideas but I'm sure some will come to me for her.

𝙺𝚈𝙻𝙴 & 𝙺𝙴𝙽 𝙺𝙰𝚃𝙰𝚈𝙰𝙽𝙰𝙶𝙸

I want to write for Kyle and Ken so much, sadly we don't get enough screentime for the two but still I'm gonna write as much as I can for the twins. I read something about how the twins don't like doing things separately or being separated after what happened with Ramona so that gave me some Idea's, maybe having a reader they can finally trust.

Definitely will write separate fics for Kyle and Ken where they meet the reader, and after a while come to trust them as well develop feelings. I'll also happily do fics for both of the twins and reader pairing, strictly platonic fluff. Ooh, maybe an older or younger sibling that they're very protective of!

𝙶𝙸𝙳𝙴𝙾𝙽 𝙶𝚁𝙰𝚅𝙴𝚂

Before he lost everything version. My favorite and I'm sure a lot of others favorite evil mastermind, I have some ideas and would love to write about him. He grew to be my favorite in the show, as for the movie it was Matthew who was my first favorite ex along with Roxy. I've been loving all of the exes even more lately, especially the twins. So I can't wait to write for all of them!

After loosing everything and meeting Julie again. So I have him twice on this list but that's because Gideon ends up using his old name again, leaving the fake alias behind. So I decided to have the version of him before that and after!

𝙹𝚄𝙻𝙸𝙴 𝙿𝙾𝚆𝙴𝚁𝚂

The anime giving us more of Julie was everything, she's so agh and I'd happily write for her if there's people out there who would want oneshots for her!

𝚂𝚃𝙰𝙲𝙴𝚈 𝙿𝙸𝙻𝙶𝚁𝙸𝙼

We don't get a lot of Stacey last time I checked, but she's quite lovely. I love the idea of her and reader gossiping, maybe reader being her coworker. Or Reader being a Pilgrim sibling and the two love poking fun at Scott as well gossiping, platonic fluff!

Oneshots, headcannons and things of the sort for all the characters. I'll also be posting oneshots and things of the sort with the separate groups in the future, like reader hanging out with Sex Bob-omb or The league of evil exes. Things like that.

Please let me know if I'm missing anyone or there's any characters I might not have and you want to request them, I have not read the graphic novels as of now as I don't have the money to buy them but in the future I definitely will when I get the chance! General Info

What is UraIchi Week?

It’s a week-long fanworks event to promote the Urahara Kisuke x Kurosaki Ichigo ship. There’s no sign-up, it’s just for fun, and everybody can participate. Completed works and wips are both acceptable, and any type of fanwork (fanfic, fanart, gifsets, etc.) is welcome. NSFW and/or potentially trigger-y content is allowed, although please remember to tag your works properly.

The ship itself can be written romantically or platonically so long as it stars these two characters together in some way. Poly ships are also fine so long as Ichigo and Kisuke are still the focus of the fanwork. And crossovers and fusions are also allowed even if it isn’t one of the given prompts for the event. Basically, anything goes, and the only criteria is that it has to be UraIchi-centric.

Posting:

For those of you with Tumblr, you can tag your stuff with #UraIchi Week 2023 in the first five tags of your post. I’ll be tracking that tag so I’ll see it and reblog it to this blog. (If it’s been a few days since you posted and I still haven’t reblogged it, something probably went wrong, Tumblr’s not always reliable, so just shoot me an ask about it and I’ll reblog it.)

For those of you with AO3, I will create a collection a day or two before the event starts, and you’ll be able to add your work to the collection when you post. (I’ll toss up a notice for everyone once the collection is up.)

And of course we have our Discord server (link is on the sidebar) so if you want to come and talk about what you’re working on or you just want to chat, feel free to join us there!

At this point, the UraIchi Server has definitely gotten a lot bigger than just UraIchi, but we do still have channels dedicated to UraIchi events.

~ Themes

The votes are in and tallied so here are the results that everyone’s been waiting for! It’s your choice whether or not you want to make a fanwork that includes all the themes of that day, or a fanwork for each theme, or a fanwork for just one. You can make something for each day of the week or just one or two days. And if your fanwork doesn’t fit any of the themes, there’s a Creator’s Choice option on the last day so feel free to bring your own ideas to this event. All prompts can be interpreted any way you want as well, it’s entirely up to you, any extra bits I’ve added is just to help get those inspiration bunnies hopping.

An extra note about the sentence prompts: feel free to change the tenses and pronouns as it suits you. If you’re inspired by a sentence prompt, then of course you should include it in your fic (as opposed to the quote prompts which are just inspiration in a general-theme-of-your-work sort of way), but if you need to change the tense from present to past, or if you’re doing a genderbend fic and need to change the pronoun, that’s perfectly fine.

For some of the romances of shows I’ve watched air in shows this year something about Scottmona really is able to reach me in a personal level in ways the others aren’t (as much as I enjoy all the others I will name!!! And even resonate personally with some of them to a lesser degree!!!)

Like it goes an extra mile than the other releases for this very specific thing cause for Bumbleby Lumity and Sulemio they’re just sorta more removed from real life due to the fantasy world setting as opposed to our world with fantastical elements (and for Lumity they’re also just very young for allot of it compared to me) and with Clark x Lois and Loid x Yor they’re very sweet relationships I appreciate but they’re also allot harder ro really project myself onto for general identity reasons and for Loid Yor because of well the family part of the title (I don’t want kids)

For Scott and Ramona despite techincally not being for my demographic canonically realistically all you have to do is have people use she/they and not he/him for Scott (and not even everyone if some people are being assholes or just don’t know…based on MY life experience probably just like Ramona Wallace and the Sex Bob-omb crew. Using the correct ones tbh) and wear a few extra accessories sometimes and I’m pretty much there

The boy at casa loma

Walucas/Wallace Wells x Lucas Lee fanfiction - Part 3

Summary : Wallace is invited as a VIP spectator at the recording of Lucas' next movie, but something doesn't go as planned...

Author note : Sorry for taking so long to upload this chapter, but guess what ? I FINALLY FINISHED THIS FIC !! WOOOOOOOH !!! The lore kinda changed recently with the new anime, so sorry for any out of canon thing :(. Anyway, i think i might write more fanfictions in the future, this one was really fun to make !!!

Final chapter : Impress

As the people on the streets were walking, just living their day, they could see something coming, grinding wall to wall, jumping from flip to backflip in an amazingly acrobatic way…

And this skateboarding king entity wasn’t other than mister Lucas Lee, the LEGENDARY oscar winning actor.

People were cheering, rooting, screaming, CRYING, as they saw Mr Lee rolling away, without even addressing them any once of a stare.

No, he couldn’t think about them…

He couldn’t think about anything else other than THE man.

The man with the dark, crow feather - like hair.

The man with the black, yet, deeply captivating eyes.

The man with that little smug look that seemed to really get stuck in the actor’s brain.

Wallace……

He would roll on his skateboard faster and even faster, just by thinking about him…

He carried with him a gray backpack, holding a delicious lunchbox, cooked with love and attention…

And some (kind of bland) garlic bread, that Lucas took with him, when he realized at the last moment he took so much time to cook Wallace’s meal that he actually forgot to get food for HIM.

The closer Lucas got to Casa Loma, the faster his heart beated.

What if he gave a terrible performance ??

A performance so bad that the boy that looked so lovely would see him as untalented, useless, even ?

Well, Lucas is now at the place, and the charming man is coming to him, so no time for thinking too much, go Lucas go !!!

“ - Well, glad to have you here, Mr Lee !”

Addressed the man, winking confidently, waving gently his hand to the star.

“ - The same goes for me..”

Lucas crossed his arms kind of awkwardly, looking around him, his eyes going from looking at the cameras, to the people around the set, staying here to watch the recording process.

As Lucas and Wallace got closer to the set, we could see and hear the street passengers all around, rooting, shouting even, to the moviestar, which made him grin, gaining even more confidence.

“ - Everybody, are y'all ready ??

Light…

Camera…

ACTION !!

- Listen to me right now, you douchebag…”

Lucas was giving the best of himself, and it really showed. The man clearly knew how to do his job, even when the script, story and scenario… Wasn’t really great.

“ - You really thought i was going to let you go away like nothing happened ?? After all you did ???”

The crowd, catered all around, was way too captivated, mesmerized even, by such a professional performance…

“ - Come here, i’ll make you feel the pain you subjected others to.”

“ - Okay guys, lunch break time !”

From the moment the break was announced, Lucas immediately started to look anywhere where Wallace could be.

Even at his own surprise, at the moment, he felt like the crowd's opinion on his performance mattered less… And also like Wallace’s view on the performance he gave mattered WAY much.

“- Hey man, i’m here !”

Lucas turned back with surprise, to see Wells’ smug face fix him.

“ - You said you would bring our lunch !

- Yeah, i did..”

They both walked through the setting, and sat at chairs, close to a simple little table.

“ - So, what did you bring for us, big man ?

- Well…”

Lucas took his backpack, and got out of it a blue lunch box.

“ - Thank you, Lucas !”

Wallace proceeded to open it, and was instantly amazed ! Two really lovely looking sandwiches, made with soft bread, and a really sweet smelling chocolate and strawberry cake !

“ - WOAW, you made that yourself ??

- Hmm ?”

Wallace looked up at Lucas… Who already started to nom on a poor looking piece of Garlic bread.

“ - Yeah, i made it, why are you asking ?” He said, looking on the side, a bit embarrassed.

“ - This… This looks delicious, thank you so much buddy !!!”

“ - Eheh, no problem, anytime boy !” replied Lucas, feeling an invisible force lift his cheekbones, showing at the same occasion his perfect white teeth.

“ - But… I’m wondering… Is this all you’re going to eat ??” Wallace disdained the cheap little piece of bread “ Why didn’t you cook anything that is that good for yourself ??”

Lucas felt sweat flowing down his forehead, looking quickly in all directions. He didn’t really want to admit he took way too much time making this lunch box for him, and forgot about himself…

“ - Don’t worry bro, eheh… I’m a strong man ! I don’t need to eat a lot on a regular basis !! Anyway, i don’t want to get too many calories.”

After saying this, Lucas INSTANTLY realized how stupid and non logic of an excuse this was. Wallace really made him lose his words…

“ - Oh, Lucas…” giggled Wallace “ You don’t really need to care about this at all ! Plus, you know, bread isn’t really calorie free.”

“ - What ?? What do you mean ??” Lucas exclaimed, actually worried.

“ - Bread has butter, bread makes you fat.

- BREAD MAKES YOU FAT ???!!!”

“ - Everyone, get back to your spot. Time to resume.”

Lucas gasped, he was having such a nice moment with Wallace, guess it was time to go back to work…

“ - Hey !”

Lucas turned around, it was Wallace, standing there again.

“ - Thank you for this great moment, you’re an impressive cook !”

Lucas felt his cheeks reddening a bit, he always ends up blushing whenever he gets anything nice from this dark haired boy..

“ - You’re welcome.” he said, as he tried to look as indifferent as he could.

“ - Oh.. Wait a second…”

Wallace raised his head. As he stared at the sky, we could see surprise in his expression. What could have happened ?

“ - Is there any problem ?”

“ - Lucas… I think it’s starting to rain !”

The teardrops, falling from the sky, were at a speed increasing every new single second.

“ - Okay, everyone, store back your equipment, we’re stopping for today.

- Oh.”

Lucas stared at the gray sky, which was getting progressively more and more dark.

“ - So…” addressed Lucas, looking at Wallace, “ What do we do now ?

- Mmh…”

Wallace began to think, what could they do…

An idea suddenly crossed his mind like a light flash.

“ - Well, i got an idea…”

“ - Hey Lucas, so about the next time we’re going to record…”

Lucas' manager got on the spot where he saw him some minutes ago, with that one dark haired guy he brang as a guest… And he wasn’t there ??

The manager looked around him, where is he hiding ??

When he suddenly saw him… He was running away with this guy ??

At the last instant they were in his field of vision, they were holding hands, and laughing loud enough to be heard from a surprisingly large distance.

“ - Get in quickly, or you’re going to get a cold !!”

They both got into Wallace’s house, absolutely soaked and wet, but in euphoric laughter after this hell of a race.

They both sat on the cheap mattress on the floor, trying to regain their breath and calm down.

“ - Woaw, your place is… Really… Chill..

- Thank you !!”

After they finally settled down, Wallace and Lucas both looked at each other, not gazing at any moment anywhere other than each other’s faces.

“ - So…

- Yeah ?”

Lucas fixed his hair, he never met a man that made him act this awkward, and also this emotional. Though, he had a really good new…

We could see excitement on Lucas’ and Wallace’s faces, both full of positive energy, as they exchanged a cheerful high five !

Wallace rubbed his eyes as he yawned, still cooling down from running under the rain.

“ - My man, you’re clearly a professional actor, you really got all the lights on you !! Everyone noticed you, you were the center of attention !!”

Lucas, hearing this, got frankly confused, everyone

- Yeah, everyone.”

Lucas felt his brain doing backflips, rolling and smashing itself everywhere in his head, and his heart was burning more than ever.. What if…

Even you ?”

A heavy silence settled in all the house by this sentence only.

Wallace's eyes were WIDE open, and Lucas was at a level of embarrassment so strong sweat flowed on his face like a waterfall, he felt HOPELESS…

But, after this silent moment that felt like decades… Wallace bursted out of laughter, at Lucas’ BIGGEST panic.

“ - THAT’S NOT FUNNY, if i was you i wouldn’t even dare to make fun of me like that…”

Lucas was so confused, so anxious, what could he even do ???..

Wallace calmed down… He fixed Lucas’ eyes, so deeply it felt like he was staring at his soul, looking as delighted as ever.

Lucas' panic was cut short, leaving him speechless, his eyes shining brighter than stars.

“ - I am impressed, Lucas.”

Lucas was breath taken.

“ - You…”

Lucas couldn’t even finish his sentence.

Wallace got close enough to his face, giving two seconds for Lucas to realize how pretty this man was.

The second Wallace’s soft lips laid on his, Lucas felt all of his stress evaporate, like steam coming from the ocean, his stress being the water, and Wallace being the shining sun.

Lucas couldn’t believe what was happening, he was overjoyed by the moment. He wrapped his massive arms around Wallace, who felt maybe squeezed a little too tight, even choking a tiny tiny tinnyyyyy little bit.. But he didn’t complain at all. Either way, Wallace, even with the large love experience he got… Never felt that way when kissing someone.

As they were making out, they both felt little lights around them, making this moment even more special… Sparks.

When they finally left each other's faces… They couldn’t let their eyes quit each other, it was THAT SPECIAL of a moment.

A special moment that NOTHING and NO ONE could st-

“ - AAAAEEEEUUUUGGHH ??!! LUCAS LEE ???!!!”

Scott just entered the place, and Lucas Lee, THE famous guy who tried to get rid of him, was just sitting here, in his shared bed ?? With his roommate ???! The last time Scott got jumpscared this hard was when Neil made him play the Scary maze prank...

“ - WHAT IS HE DOING HE-”

“ - DUDE, dude, calm down, everything is okay.

No hard feelings between us anymore, ‘kay ?”

Both Wallace and Lucas giggled, amused by Scott’s reaction, still holding each other really tight.

“ - UUUUHH ?? WHAT ???!”

“ - Okay boys,” cackled Wallace, “what about we take a drink and talk about, you know, all of this ?”

Lucas, who couldn’t agree less, nodded with great pleasure.

Yeah, both Wallace and Lucas were truly euphoric together, and nobody could ruin that.

On plan I had for Rosslyn (my oc for alpha teebs on machines) was for her to be a clone of Mr. Lee's late wife Rosanne. But this was scrapped bc it was too obvious a twist plus I doubt Lee would clone his own wife.

Noelani was originally conceived as Chris Thorndyke's teenage sister and would replace him as the main human. I changed so much of her by then especially to distance her from that shitstain.

An idea I had for Jojo Part 9 was for Jolyne Kujo's mother (Jotaro's ex) to be the main antagonist. Her goal was to avenge Jolyne's death by leading a campaign against stand users seeing them as too dangerous, as well as plotting to wipe out the rest of the Brando family so they can't hurt anyone ever again. My main JOJO, Josephine "Josie, wouldve opposed her alongside her friend Gia Brando (Dio's granddaughter), Josuke 8 and Yasuho.

👾Hello! 24 nb. After watching Scott Pilgrim Takes Off I have absolutely jumped on the Todd Ingram x Wallace Wells train and I'd love to find a 18+ roleplay partner who would be interested in writing that ship with me! I want to write Wallace so looking for anyone who'd be up for writing Todd.

Stonewalling (AKA “I’m Not Romancing the Stone!”) [OC X Canon Pokemon story]

(Featuring an illustration!)

Note: Still fleshing out this character but I wrote this to give myself some quick serotonin.

Summary: Alanis’s dad is business partners with Devon Corporation CEO Joseph Stone. When the pair arrange for Joseph’s son and Alanis to get married, despite having never met, Alanis goes to meet her new fiancé and “celebrate” the engagement, fully intent on ending things. Turns out, Steven Stone also has something he wants to say.

Alanis checked her phone again. She sighed. Why am I doing this…? She felt ridiculous…exposed, even, sitting alone in that booth in Lilycove City’s most elite restaurant.

“Dad, I thought we discussed this already,” Alanis began, “I’m not looking to get married right now.”

“He’s Joseph Stone’s son, Lani; not to mention a League Champion,” her father Lyle replied, “Joe wants his son to have some stability, and I want you to have some security.”

“I have security,” she retorted, “I have my own life, dad! A career I love, friends who care about me, children who need me…”

“I know you love your job. I’m not asking you to change. But think about it—Waywood Enterprises being connected to Devon Corporation by the marriage of their heirs would be beneficial to all of us.”

Alanis grunted in annoyance. She thought with the end of the caste system these sorts of marriages had long since died out.

“I’ve never even met Steven Stone! The two of you can’t just immediately decide we’re engaged!”

“The wheels are already in motion, my darling! Which is why on Saturday night, the two of you will finally meet in person to celebrate the engagement. Steven has already agreed to meet you.”

“But—“

“Alanis.” Lyle’s eyes softened for just a bit, catching her off-guard. “…at the very least, meet him. If you end up absolutely detesting him, then we can discuss further. Can you promise me you’ll meet him? You might like him.”

He was already late. Steven Stone was known as a globetrotter—a talented trainer, a collector of rare stones, and—

“—an absolute dreamboat,” one of her fellow teachers gushed to her in the teachers’ lounge, “Women want him, some men want him, most men want to be him…you’re so lucky, Lani!”

“Then you can have him.”

“Oh, come on. At least give it a shot. From what it sounds like your dad just wants you to have the best possible partner. And who better than Steven Stone? …well, maybe Wallace. Maybe.”

“I think Wallace might be gay,” Alanis muttered as she pulled her students’ egg-carton bean sprouts out from the windowsill, “or bi. Or maybe pan?”

“That’s not my point.”

“Lay off, Molly,” a male teacher leaned over from his desk, “It’s clear Miss Waywood’s not exactly over the moon about this, and you aren’t helping.”

“Thank you, Elliott—“ Alanis started.

“So are we invited to the wedding?”

“Hey!”

“Kidding! Kidding.”

“Think about it, though,” a third, female teacher looked over, “The guy spends all his time traveling. A rich husband who’s never home? It’ll be like you’re still single, and you’ll just have a bit more money.”

“That doesn’t help either…”

“I’m just being practical. If you’re gonna be in a loveless marriage, might as well take advantage of the perks. Figure as long as you two get along you’ll manage. Lots of arranged marriages work like that, from what I understand.”

In the end, here she was, alone in a booth, dressed up for a formal date (or maybe a school dance), staring at the menu in front of her. A waiter came by to refill her water.

Did he stand her up?

It was high school all over again…

“Excuse me.”

She snapped her head up in surprise, brought out of her anxious thoughts as her earthy browns met his steely blues. Steven Stone had finally arrived. He had a hand slightly raised, seeming to take a breath as he finally extended it to her.

“You’re…Alanis Waywood, right?”

“I am.” Alanis accepted his hand, as he gave it a firm but gentle shake.

“I’m Steven Stone,” he introduced himself, despite someone like him needing no such thing, “I’m so sorry for being late; I got held up with something at home and lost track of time…”

“It’s fine, really. I understand.”

Steven sat down across from her, speaking briefly to the server who approached and simply asking for water as he scanned the menu.

“I haven’t been here in several years,” he admitted, “The menu’s changed a lot.”

“I only came here once before,” she replied, “High school graduation.”

“It’s a nice place, but not my favorite,” he remarked.

The silence that fell between them was almost louder than the noise of the restaurant around them. Alanis gripped the fabric in her lap. Steven didn’t look at her, closing his eyes and sighing.

“Listen—“ they both began.

“I’m breaking off the engagement.”

Both froze in surprise. Steven straightened up to look at her, mouth slightly hung open. Alanis put her hand to her mouth.

“You too?” He asked. She nodded. His shoulders dropped, and he let out a sigh of relief as he relaxed a bit. “That…takes a lot off my shoulders.”

Alanis couldn’t help but giggle a bit at this. “I take it this was sprung on you suddenly as well? How far back?”

“I’d say about four months. I guess it didn’t really settle in until dad told me about us finally meeting. He’d given me your photo before and I’ve heard a bit about you, but I figured it was just his usual attempt to get me to settle down.”

“My dad always seemed to hint at it…I didn’t take it seriously until he told me the engagement was official. Geez, marrying me off to another CEO’s son…”

“Seriously…we’re not in the age of marriage to unite adjacent fiefs, right?”

“I was going to say the age of the caste system.”

“That too.” He pointed at her with a chuckle. “So, us ‘breaking up’ won’t exactly start a war. I’ll be honest, I’m really not comfortable marrying someone I hadn’t met until now.”

“Same.”

“Besides, with all the traveling I do….”

“And I have school to worry about…”

“Oh, that’s right—you’re a schoolteacher, aren’t you? What age?”

“Elementary school, right now. I’m looking to eventually move up to middle school. My students are mostly nine-ten years old.”

“What subject?”

“Earth science.”

“Really?” His eyes lit up a bit.

“Yes, including basic geology,” she added with a smile. “We start that unit next week. I just finished my geode display.”

“Do you….”

She nodded, picking up her phone and going to her photos, passing it to him to show him the display. Steven examined each stone in the photo, his smile widening.

“Very nice,” he remarked, “Looks clear and concise, to me.”

“Thank you.”

“Is that…a Kecleon foot, in the corner of the frame?”

“Oh…that. Yes, that’s my Kecleon. He was looking for a rock I had removed from the display and hid.”

“Why’d you hide it?”

“He thinks it looks like a loaf of bread. That’s his favorite thing to eat. Come to think of it…” she dug into her purse and pulled out the sandy-colored geode. “…this is where I hid it.” She turned it over to reveal the teal-colored crystal formation inside. She couldn’t hand it to Steven fast enough. He flipped it over to examine the exterior.

“…huh!” He began, “it does look like ciabatta bread.”

“Not you, too,” she giggled.

“Hey, credit where it’s due. Your Kecleon does have a point.” He turned it to examine the interior, then paused, sighing and laughing sheepishly. “I’m sorry. This is supposed to be a social interaction and here I am fixating on rocks, as usual.”

“It’s okay. This is our break-up dinner, after all.”

“When you’re right, you’re right. But still, you better take this back.” He returned the geode to her as he saw the server returning, “Because the actual bread is here. Hopefully you didn’t smuggle your little friend in here.”

“He’s in his ball, no worries. I’ll save a little loaf for him if we have some left.”

As they put in their orders and began to eat the bread, a question finally emerged from Alanis.

“Why do you like rocks so much? Do you know?”

Steven seemed to think about it for a moment. “You know, I’ve been asked that more than once in my life…and I’m not sure. My dad likes them, I like them…my mom liked them to an extent….” He shrugged. “Maybe it’s genetic.”

“There’s nothing wrong with that. Lots of people have things they like and no explanation. And maybe, sometimes, you’re better off without a firm answer.”

“That’s actually kind of artistic. I like it.”

“Thank you. Are there any particular stones you’re after, right now?”

“Not to own, but to see.” He nodded. “I’m heading to Unova Tuesday morning. I’m visiting the Rateren* Nation reservation to head into their ancestral grounds and see some of the rock formations there. They don’t allow many people outside of museums to take samples from there, so I just want to get some personal photos.”

“That’s exciting! If you don’t mind…would you send the photos to me so I can show my class when we get to the unit?”

“I’d be happy to. Mind giving me your email?” He passed his phone to her after opening his contacts. She entered her contact information and passed it back. “Well, I may not be engaged anymore, but at least I’ve made a new friend.”

“Agreed.”

The rest of the evening passed without incident, the two talking casually over a meal—discussing Steven’s latest travels, and learning more about the students in Alanis’ classes. It all came so naturally, it was a bit of a disappointment when it was finally time to pay and leave. As the two stepped out into the cool night air, the moon shining on the sea, Alanis sighed.

“Well…I guess this is goodnight.”

“Do you have a ride home?”

“Yes, I’ll be fine.”

There was a silence between them.

“…I enjoyed tonight,” he finally spoke. “It was nice to meet you.”

“It was nice to meet you, too. Even if it was technically a break-up.”

“Yeah.” He put his hands in his pockets and offered a smile. “Have a good night, Alanis.”

“Lani. My…friends call me Lani.”

His smile got bigger. “Lani, then. Get home safe.”

A few days later…

“Morning!” Alanis called out as she stepped into the faculty office, her Kecleon hanging off the strap of her bag.

“Morning, Lani,” Molly leaned over from her desk, “You got a package in your cubby.”

“Hm?” Alanis went to the cubbies where faculty mail was kept, finding a small parcel there. “I didn’t have anything sent to the school…” Going to her desk, she retrieved her scissors and carefully cut the string off the package, unfolding the paper around it and blinking at the box inside. Taking a seat, she slowly opened it…revealing a blackened stone lump. A folded piece of paper was underneath. She unfolded it to read the message inside.

Her cheeks flushed as she read this. She put the letter to her chest with one hand, picking up the rock in the other.

Ohhh, no.

If there was one thing her maiden’s heart hated, it was her dad being right.
