Not That Special
"Good evening."
Detective cursed loudly, tea splattering the wall as they whipped around to face the thief lounging, ankle crossed over the knee, on their sofa. "What are you-- How did you get in?"
"Key."
"What key? There is no other key, I have the only set."
"Ah, the only set you knew of. I asked your landlord for the spares when you moved in. He thinks we're married."
Detective let that sink in a moment before forcing their mouth shut and running an exasperated hand down their face. "Alright. Ignoring that for now. Why are you here? I could have you arrested with one phone call."
"Oh, please don't do that. I'd have to make run for it, and I'm really trying to stay off the streets right now." Detective raised their eyebrows inquiringly, and they continued, "I'm on the downlow. A recent target really did not like being robbed. Two of my places are being watched, and I would not like to risk the third. You see I'm rather attached to my skin."
They slid the back of their hand down their cheek, turning their head haughtily to the side, almost like an invitation to admire them.
"So you decided you'd put me in danger?" Detective said.
Thief scoffed. "Nobody even knows who you are, let alone that I crash here in my off afternoons."
"You what?"
"Landlord thinks we're married, remember? You think that was a one-lie assumption? Keep up."
Detective had to sit down. Everything sort of felt like it was spinning out of control. Before they could think better of it they'd sunk down to the cushion on Thief's left and ducked their head between their knees with a long groan.
"I'm going to have to inform them I'm very much single. Then I'll have to change the locks. Probably change all my passwords--who knows where you've been snooping. Then there's the police."
Thief reached over their back and began massaging their neck. "Why. go through the stress? It's just a few measly days. I'll even return my set of the keys. As for the police, why is any of their business?"
Detective didn't have the energy to swat them away. The day had been exhausting enough all on it's own, and now all this...
Villain hit a knot, and they practically puddled at its gentle unraveling.
"Maybe because they're paying me to catch you? Besides, they already think I treat you specially. If it got out you were in my house and I didn't report it--"
"Like you said, if it got out I was in your house. Many times at that. With an eye witness. You really think they're going to believe I got in on my own?" Thief leaned against their shoulder, breath hot in Detective's ear. "After all. I am special."
Detective jerked out of their grip, their stomach dropping to their toes as they wheeled on Thief's pouted lips and innocent-seeming dark eyes. "Are you blackmailing me?"
Thief surged forward, wrapping their arms around Detective's neck. The scent of rosemary and mint wafted up from their hair. "Only a little. And only if you call someone."
Detective moved to shove them off, but Thief clung tight.
"I would like you to leave," Detective said, squeezing hard on Thief's wrists. "Now."
Thief still did not unlock. "I told you, I'm in trouble!"
"So? That's your thing! You love danger. Your court it so often your practically a suitor."
"But I went too far." Thief shifted a little. Detective didn't notice they'd climbed into their lap until their legs were wrapped as tightly around their waist as their arms were around their neck. "I robbed Corvina Sedero."
Just the name made Detective shiver. Dragging hidden criminals into the light was one thing. But the ones that stood in plain sight were quite another. Detective had been young when they realized that mere knowledge of wrongdoing was not enough. Evidence was one manacle and decent law enforcement the other, and Corvina Sedero with all her reputation remained chain-free. The rumor was that she skinned the people who crossed her. Detective had never taken it as hyperbole.
"If she catches me..." Thief drew out a hairbreadth from Detective's face, dark eyes shining. "I'm scared."
Detective probably would have taken it for a lie if they couldn't feel the rapid pound of Thief's heart against their chest. For a moment, they considered making the call anyway, telling Thief that the safest place for them was behind bars. But even if Thief didn't run for it, Detective doubted any prison was truly outside the reach of Corvina's claws.
"A few days," they sighed.
"Really?"
"But we come up with another solution in the meantime."
"Of course, it's not as if I planned on moving in." Thief snuggled against Detective's chest, limbs loosening into less of a death grip and into more of a real embrace. "I knew I could trust you."
Detective jolted a little. That was not a good thing. A Thief should not feel comfortable with the person actively trying to jail them. Yet they couldn't stop the warmth flooding their chest cavity. "Don't get used to it. I'm still telling my landlord I'm not married."
Thief did not argue.
"You're not going to say no? Tell me what a mistake I'd be making?"
Their only reply was soft breathing.
Detective flicked their gaze to Thief's face, eyes closed and tucked snuggly against their shoulder. They must have been as exhausted as Detective, holding on for confirmation before finally letting themselves drift off. Detective couldn't imagine how much running they must have done, how many dead ends they faced, before they got here.
Their arms hovered awkwardly over the criminal's thin back, stuck between ideas of guiding their wiry figure to the couch cushions and holding them back. They'd once read that hugging made the body release the oxytocin hormone to combat anxiety, and Thief probably could use as little anxiety as possible. But that didn't mean Detective needed to be the one to do it. The weighted blanket on their bed probably would do just as well.
Detective braced one palm against the couch back and gingerly rose to their feet. They turned off lights as they went, brain growing drowsier out of habit with the dark hall and spattering of wall lights ahead. They'd tuck Thief in and then collapse on the sofa.
It was just one night.
It wasn't wrong if they weren't in the same room.
And these were extenuating circumstances.
Anyone would be swayed.
Thief was not special.

Villaintine's Day 2024 - Crash Meeting
Prompt: Evil Scheme 03 @black-rose-events
Detective who has to investigate a string of crimes and ends up discovering more about Villain than they ever thought they would (could be an identity reveal or a bigger plot or a “the Villain is actually the good guy and X is actually the antagonist)
(tw car crash mention)
It did not go according to plan.
Detective twitched a little, their fingers fidgeting. There was an unconscious part of their mind that was annoyed at not being able to clasp their hands in front of them, as they were zip-tied behind their back. It helped them think, and in that moment they needed that. To be honest, they were in a slight state of shock. Being caught hadn’t much to do with it.
A couple of weeks ago, there had been a robbery in their neighborhood. It’d happened in a garage. During the night, the cars in repair had been all gone. Detective liked the people that worked there. They were a regular, and the staff never sighed or rolled their eyes every time they presented a very bumpy car that had its windows broken too many times to count, flat tires at least every month, and once had a very long knife stuck in the hood. This kind of petty thievery really made their gears grind, especially from those of one overpowered over-the-top Villains. Of course it was a villain, you didn’t need to be Sherlock Holmes to know that. Could you actually believe that someone chose to do that with their abilities? Couldn’t they get a job or something? Detective had no special power, expect perhaps an innate gift to find themself in trouble, but it didn’t matter one bit. Villain had hurt someone they knew, they had to be stopped. Simple as that. Of course the hero agency had been contacted, but the Heroes were much too busy with crimes that “actually mattered” (yes, it was what they’d said on the phone.) Being unchecked, Villain hadn’t stopped there. Their people had broken into private properties just to steal cars, and only cars. It was like the beginning of a bad joke. This was getting really worrying, but the Hero agency didn’t care. As long as it didn’t hurt their sponsors, Detective supposed everything was fine and dandy. Well, not in their book.
It could have gone well. It could have gone very well. Success had been on the tip of their fingers, honestly. They’d gone undercover and had succeeded to find Villain’s headquarters, as well as all the codes to the doors. They’d sent all these findings to the Hero’s agency, just in case, and then they’d met Villain themself. Detective had scoffed at first at – well, everything. The costume, the theatrics, the melodrama. And then, they’d laid down their eyes...and they had frozen. They’d been quiet and still while the henchmen had dragged them away. Even now it was hard to snap out of it. They had no idea how long they’d been stuck in here.
Villain opened the door. The prisoner jumped on their feet. The day before, they would have tried a good old-fashioned headbutt, but not now. Not after what they’d seen. They stared as Villain put their fingertips together in reflection.
“Do you know who am I?” Detective asked abruptly.
Villain smirked:
“Are you going to try that on me? You’re in no position to bluff. You’re a nobody living in a bad neighborhood. That you have ties with the hero agency changes nothing. I doubt that they’ll come to your rescue.”
“No, I mean- Do you not remember me at all? Or are you just pretending?”
That made Villain pause. They examined their prisoner, but something about Detective’s attitude made gloating strangely difficult. Intrigued, even slightly amused, they tilted their head:
“Why should I?”
Detective closed their eyes:
“Okay. Hmm- okay. Do you remember a car crash from fifteen years ago?”
“There are a lot of car crashes in the world, Detective.”
“Not like that one. A blue old-fashioned car pushed another car off the road, and it crashed. It wasn’t an accident. There were four victims: the father, the mother, and two kids. One of them was a dumb twelve year-old. It was me. I got away with a few broken bones.”
“All of this is fascinating, but-”
“I don’t have a lot of memories of this day. I just have pictures, flashes. I saw the other car - how fast it was, how deliberately it bumped into us – the scream of my parents - the hand of my sibling emerging out of the rubble-”
“Are you accusing me?”
“-But I remember the next day very clearly. The grown-ups told me everyone else had died.”
“See, you’ve got this the wrong way. I am the one who is supposed to tell you my tragic origin story.”
“I think I am telling yours. You have a birth mark on your left hand that looks like a pentagram. My sibling had the same.”
There was a silence.
“Don’t you remember?" asked Detective with something akin to desperation. "Don’t you remember at all?”
Villain staggered on their feet. Unable to catch them up, Detective knelt next to them when they grabbed the wall, their knees buckling under them.
“The car,” Villain finally whispered. “Did it look – Was it a sedan?”
“I think so.”
“I see it. I see it all the time in my dreams.”
They wiped their forehead with a shaking hand:
“I-I thought you were an imaginary friend. No one told me I had a real sibling.”
“What happened to you?”
Villain avoided their gaze:
“Bad things.”
They lapsed into silence again, until Detective cleared their throat:
“Can you, uh-”
Villain pulled out a knife and cut the zip-ties that bound Detective’s hands. They stayed like this for a few tense seconds, barely glancing at each other, until Villain held out a tentative hand. Detective took a step closer and reeled them into their arms. Villain’s spine went rigid at first, but Detective awkwardly patted their back until they slowly relaxed.
“Am I the older sibling?” asked Villain.
“You wish. You’re two years younger. Why are you stealing cars?”
“Oh, it was going to be a very sophisticated scheme. Everyone thinks so anyway. But I think- I’m really looking for that blue car. I can’t think of something else. I keep getting back to it.”
“Do you want to look together?”
“I-Maybe?”
“Good.” Detective pressed them tighter. “Because I’m not going to let anything happen to you again. And I really, really want to know why everyone lied to us.”

DIALOGUE:
1) “Is this a game to you?”
2) “Let’s make this fun, shall we?”
3) “A clue for a kiss.”
4) “You can’t run forever.”
5) “Give it back.”
6) “People were hospitalized because of last night..” “I… didn’t want that.”
7) “I get it—you don’t care about what happens after you’re gone. But I have to deal with it.”
8) “What—so this was all fake?”
9) “You’ve been lying to me all this time…”
10) “I meant to steal your keys, but I think you stole my heart.” (CHEESY)
11) “Leave town and don’t come back.”
12) “I’d leave it all behind for you.”
13) “I won’t turn ‘good’ for you!”
14) “Really should up the security on this place.”
15) “Get out of my house.” “I need to talk to you.” “Then go through the front door.”
16) “I can’t just abandon my job for you.” “Then neither can I.”
17) “If it was a perfect world, I wouldn’t be a thief to begin with.”
18) “I need you to steal something for me.” “How… me-like, Detective.”
19) “At some point, you will steal from the wrong person. After that, there’s nothing I can do to help you.”
20) “You can’t look the other way for me?” “No, not this time.”
21) “Give me the codes, Detective.”
22) “I do love a woman/man in uniform.” “...Is this what you say every time you get arrested?”
23) “Please don’t make me handcuff you to this pole.” “...” “I’m being serious, don’t make me laugh.”
24) “You need me, Detective.”
25) “I don’t need you, Detective. Never have.”
26) “Let me save you.” “I don’t need saving.”
27) “You’ve made it clear that you’ll keep stealing no matter what I do.”
28) “Just forget about me. Go find another detective to goad into your games.”
29) “And if I quit for you?”
30) “If I leave, you won’t see me again.” “Better than arresting you.”
SCENARIOS:
31) The detective handcuffs the thief to a pole, afraid they’ll bolt. Flirty conversations ensue.
32) Terrified of the thief getting hurt, the detective tries to convince them to quit their job.
33) After the thief stole a valuable artifact, the detective fumed. Trying to make it up, the thief returns what they stole and tries apologizing.
34) In the aftermath of their robbery, people were hurt. The detective doesn’t understand that the thief feels an immense amount of guilt.
35) Throughout their short relationship, the detective thought the thief was just a civilian. It turns out that they just want one of the detective’s belongings.
36) Trying to chase after the thief, the detective gets hurt. The thief breaks into their hospital room with chocolate and flowers.
37) The thief crashes in the detective’s apartment after a joint attack on a much stronger group of criminals. From here, the detective feels a conflict of feelings and duty to their job.
38) Narrowly escaping with their life, the thief agrees to leave town and never return. The detective, while the originator of that idea, doesn’t know how to cope.
39) They face a stronger enemy together and learn how easily they work together. Fluid like water.
40) Both the thief and the police department come to an agreement: the thief will quit their job and instead work for the police department. A great outcome, except the detective can’t go two seconds without being flirted with.

The thief was laying on the couch when the door swung open. They sat up, a grinning.
Detective ignored them, going straight for the kitchen. They didn't want to deal with that right now. They needed coffee.
They were rather surprised when they saw a steaming mug of tea standing on the counter.
"I made it for you", the thief said as they came up from behind them, leaning against the counter. "As an apology for making you run yesterday."
Detective groaned at the memory of what had happened the day before. They had almost caught the thief. Almost. But right as they were about to get them, the thief had jumped from the bridge and into the river.
At first, the detective ahd been concerned. Then they had seen the thief on tv, running away with a piece of jewelry they had stolen from some famous rich person. Their hair had still been damp from the water.
In short- the detective had massive muscle cramps. They had never run that fast for that long in their life.
"I don't want your tea", they grumbled, taking out a new cup from the cabinet above the sink.
The thief hissed, a pained expression on their face. "Ouch. Is my tea that bad?"
They stepped aside as the detective went to get the milk out of the freezer.
"I never tried it."
"Oh, then you shou-"
"No thanks."
They made their coffee in silence, the criminal only watched. They eyed the tea for a while before they took it and took a sip. "It's not bad", they murmured.
"At least i now know that it wasn't poised." They made their way to the living room, where the detective turned ok the tv and sat down on the couch. Some trashy drama series was playing. They weren't paying any attention to it though. They didn't trust the thief - obviously - and they didn't want them to steal anything either.
Who knows what the thief was here to do.
"I wouldn't have poisoned your drink! I'm not a murderer!" They faked being offended pretty badly for someone who could steal something in broad daylight and act their way out of it. "Besides- you're my favorite detective."
"Oh yeah?" The detective sipped on their coffee, curiosity sparkling in their eyes. "You just happen to be my favorite criminal as well." The patted the space next to them. "Come, sit."
They had to keep themselves from laughing out when they saw the confused and skeptical face of the theif. After a few seconds, they sat down, but leaving a small space between them.
A gap the detective closed immediately. They put their coffee on the small table, and took the thief's hands into their own, bringing the tea ul to their face.
"It does smell good."
The theif was getting very suspicious and nervous now. They weren't quite sure what to do. "You wanna try?", they croaked out and watched as the detective took a sip, their eyes never leaving the thieves.
"It's good", they said afterwards, taking their mug and going back to sit where they had sat before. They noticed how the thief eyed them.
"I'll be leaving, then." They took one last sip. They stood, looking around one lats time, before leaving through the door, still a little confused and suspicious.
The detective grinned to themselves as they took out their phone, looking at the red dot marking the thief. The had actually swallowed the little tracker the detective had put into their tea when they hadn't been looking. The blue dot was the tracker they had placed onto the thief's jacket when they had taken their hands.
Well, the thief wasn't the only one who could act.

Unexpected OTP Pairings ✨
Tumblr media
❥ Okay I know Valentine’s Day was last week! Almost two weeks ago! But recently I’ve been wanting to branch out a bit with my blog writing, & writing prompts are something I love a lot! So, I’m trying something new & came up with a few OTP ideas! I hope you enjoy, thank you & have fun!
❥ F x M writing prompts! I didn't specify who is who though so everyone can read!
Former! Villain x Superhero
Not even a real villain, just some dumb person who steals things but is actually really nice in real life! But when a superhero comes to stop them, they instantly fall in love! Seriously has heart eyes & doesn't pay any attention to the hero’s grand pre-fight speech.
Or doesn’t put up a fight at all, just hands them the stolen goods & escapes. Leaving Hero completely confused as the Villain they were supposed to stop didn’t even bother fighting, which is still good but they’re still confused.
After this, the Villain now decides to become a Superhero!! To not only impress their new crush but also because they've always really wanted to be one anyways! It was just the push they needed.
Cue them now running the streets in a completely different outfit trying their best to stop the bad guys! Usually, it doesn’t end well though: they’ll trip over the air & let them escape, or maybe just show up late to the fight & it’s already over.
It’s even worse when their Hero crush joins the fray, and then they’re really clumsy or just start sputtering like an old car. Their former henchmen, now turned sidekicks, try to console them as they lay on the couch completely embarrassed by their feats.
Oooooor, they are super confident & much better at being a superhero than they ever were being a Villain. Maybe this confidence goes to their head a bit & will literally try flirting with Hero on the battlefield! Hero gets a bit embarrassed sometimes & their other super-friends tease them about it. If this does happen, Hero might end up trying to run away from the former Villain in an effort to focus on their job. But it just ends up being really funny to watch.
Bonus: They have opposite powers or maybe one has no powers at all.
Dashing Thief x Friendly! Detective
I'm sorry this one is a bit short!
A notorious thief with a heart of gold who only ever steals from bad guys & acts more as a Robin Hood character than any. Hardly ever keeps anything for themselves; just struts around after dark on the lookout for anything suspicious. Not one person has been able to catch them & their identity remains a mystery. Would be cool if they were a nobleman/woman or had some kind of big fancy hideout.
The detective is actually their friend/partner (maybe)! The good egg who actually sees the thief’s true intentions instead of just mucking around in a Halloween costume. Although they're pretty ticked at the way Thief does things, they usually keep their coworkers & the boss off Thief's trail. Maybe a newbie or an intern at the detective agency, determined to prove themselves on the field.
Maybe they met as civilians & the thief switched to a disguise to hide from authorities, but bumped into the detective who was out on a coffee break. It was love at first sight for both of them, so cute! 😆 They do a lot of coffee dates now, but sometimes Detective overdoes it.....
One is the brains, and the other is the brawn. Together they can get any job done! The Detective’s coworkers find it strange how the Thief shows up more often when they're specifically on the job. The Boss is suspicious but sometimes finds them cute.
Often swing by each other’s places to not only hangout but help each other with cases or special kinds of info. If the Thief has any sidekicks, no doubt they’ll spill funny stories of missions gone wrong or close calls.
Stealing each other's hats and impersonating the other one for fun, then cue a playful chase scene around the room! So cute!
Dragon x Wizard
I know some people like fantasy stuff!
A dragon is resting in their cave until they hears footsteps at the entrance. But instead of finding a grumpy old knight, they find a wizard! Maybe the Wizard was exploring the caves nearby or on a journey to the next town, but instead of feeling scared or angry, they started fangirling/fanboying over the dragon instead! 😆
Likes to ask them all sorts of questions & sometimes can’t stop talking. Now Wizard can come whenever they like & the two become friends!
The Wizard visits whenever they can, showing off all sorts of new spells or potions they've created. Even though it might not be as impressive as their fire, the Dragon still finds it cool & applauds.
The Dragon will always try to impress their wizard friend with tall tales of each piece of treasure. How they got it, where they found it, if they fought anyone over it, etc. But sometimes those stories are exaggerated…
The Wizard will be in absolute awe at the Dragon’s stories & can’t help but be a complete chatterbox about it. Asking more questions about different things like how their magic works, how they can fly with all that extra weight, or if they can learn a fire-breathing spell from them instead—
If the Wizard lives in a tower then the Dragon will visit just as frequently! Usually it’s in the early morning or during sundown when there are fewer people around. But if the Wizard lives in a town or city, it might take some time for the Dragon to come around. It’s not that they don’t care, but dragons are more solitary creatures. They likely won’t be found anywhere other than their own home or nearby.
Either way, they enjoy each other's company & the dragon likes to ask questions about different thingamabobs on the Wizard's shelves.
They can both be pretty clingy but that’s sometimes a bit tough to handle because the poor wizard has to be extra careful pouring bottles or waving their wand around if a pair of arms are wrapped around them. Doesn’t mind but sometimes will complain if their partner won’t stay still.
Extra Duo!
Since I loved the superhero one a lot I thought of another one: what if a Hero’s Sidekick & a Villain’s Henchman fall in love! They end up sneaking out on rooftops for dates or waving/winking at each other on the battle field. The Henchman does end up giving Sidekick any tips about their next plan.
Cue the Villain throwing a tantrum in their lair wondering why the Hero is always one step ahead of them. 😅
They like to hangout in civilian settings together! Bonus if they found out on accident lol
If their Bosses end up finding out it’s like sneaking back into your house at night, but then the Hero/Villain turns the lights on in their pajamas like “Where were you?? I thought you were asleep!”
Bonus if the Henchman or both villains become heroes at the end!

If possible, can i request a second part to the thief (magpie) x detective one? It was really great and i'd love to see more, if you feel like!
I hope you are having a lovely day!!
Part 1 here
"You look stressed, detective." They heard the smile in the Magpie's voice. "My detective."
The detective's heart leapt up into their throat. They started to straighten, to turn away from the railing of the pier, only for the Magpie's hand on their back to stop them. It was a gentle enough touch. Not especially threatening. The detective still went completely still.
It seemed impossible that they didn't remember the face of the thief behind them. They had stared right at them. Part of them were sure that, despite all evidence to the contrary, if they could just get another look they would remember.
"If you turn, I'll leave," the Magpie said.
"Not so sure you'd get away free this time?"
"No," the Magpie laughed.
The detective didn't know if they meant 'no, they weren't sure they'd get away free' or 'no, that wasn't it at all, and it was funny that the detective thought for a second that it was.'
The magpie's hand was warm against the detective's back.
Slowly, the detective eased themselves back into their previous position - bent leaning their arms on the railing, cigarette in one hand like a cliché, staring at the water. They decided to name their compliance curiosity.
They wanted to ask how come they couldn't remember the details of the Magpie's face, how they couldn't remember much of the details of their last conversation at all, but even asking the question felt like giving the Magpie an advantage. It showed how much the detective didn't know.
"Good." There was no particular teasing to the Magpie's voice, only simple praise, and it made something tug in the detective's stomach. Before they had time to overthink that too much, the Magpie's hand slid up to the nape of the detective's neck.
"Don't."
The Magpie stopped.
"I'm not going to hurt you."
"Why are you here?" The detective turned the cig in their hand. "What do you want?"
"Nasty habit, smoking. It will kill you."
"Everything kills you in the end."
"Ooh, broody." That was teasing. Mocking.
"What do you want?" the detective snapped.
The Magpie's thumb grazed robber-quick over the throbbing points of tension clustered at the detective's neck and shoulder, before their hand fell away entirely. The detective wondered if the thief would be gone if they glanced around. Without the touch, there was no anchor. They couldn't hear the Magpie's breathing over the roar of the waves.
"I wanted to check on you. Your coat's thin, too. I'd get you a new one, but they'd accuse you of bribery if anyone found out, wouldn't they? Even if it wasn't true."
The detective didn't know what to do with that. They didn't know what to say to that. Had the Magpie come to gloat? They weren't especially acting like they had. Yet what else could it be? It made no conceivable for a thief to care for the detective trying to catch them, no matter how odd the thief. They were strangers, besides everything else.
"It would be such a nice coat." The Magpie sounded wistful. "Softest, warmest, most beautiful thing you've ever owned. I'd love seeing you in it."
"Costs more than my year's salary too, no doubt, knowing you."
"It's no fun to spoil you with things you could get yourself."
It was a ridiculous notion to even entertain. The Magpie was probably just...being something. Then there was the whole bribery thing, given detective's really couldn't accept ludicrously expensive gifts (or gifts at all) from thieves. Yet. Maybe, just maybe, if they let the Magpie do that, let the thief get closer, they'd get close enough to catch. Maybe they'd be able to figure out where the coat came from, assuming the Magpie was even being serious. It wasn't like any of the conventional methods were working. They hadn't been in months, and no one else had made any headway on the Magpie case either.
"Sure," they said, with a huff, keeping their voice light and flippant. "If it pleases you."
They almost felt the Magpie's stare, their pinprick attention, gem bright and needle sharp.
"Dangerous promises, that."
"Hm?"
"It it pleases me." The Magpie's voice was suddenly very close by their ear, amused and not all flippant, and the detective's mouth was dry again. It took everything they had not to instinctively turn. They felt the Magpie's breath against their cheek, the proof that they were real, no phantom, no hallucination. "Would you let me do whatever I pleased with you then, detective?"
The detective's fingers tightened on the edge of the railing. They shivered, and the blamed the biting chill of Autumn starting to deepen and darken. They took a drag to avoid saying something stupid, or making a sound they might regret. They exhaled and managed to speak, fingers and soul burning up a little more.
"You take liberties, my thief."
"I take a lot of things, we've established that." But the Magpie sounded more cheerful than before.
"Memories?"
It sort of slipped out. Impossible though it was.
The Magpie's hand rested on the back of their neck again, giving the knots of tension an expert enough squeeze that the detective sort of regretted ever telling them to stop. The Magpie's hand fell away once more.
"Don't worry, detective. I won't take more from you than you can give me. I'm not that cruel."
The detective wouldn't have been able to describe how they knew the Magpie was gone soon after that, only that they knew. They turned, and scanned the half-empty pier, and found nothing remotely out of place with any of it.
Disconcerted, and...something, they stubbed out their cigarette and headed back, as ever, to work.
The coat turned up two weeks later; a perfect fit, but not ostentatious, and utterly gorgeous. Black, and white and lined with blue. A magpie's colours.
No one else even looked twice at it.

Hero x Villain Masterlist
Recurring Characters:
These Two Dorks Masterlist (mostly fluff but angst looms on the horizon, hurt/comfort)
Vampire Hero Masterlist (black comedy, affectionate whump parody, lots of torture attempts/mentions even if that rarely turns out the way the torturer planned)
Others:
Reverse chronological order. (prompt) indicates when the original idea is from someone else.
A taste of revenge: Supervillain doesn’t really mind the three young heroes who keep coming after him, until the fateful day everyone goes for ice cream. (ask)
Random Word Prompts: What it says on the tin. Marvel as I turn one random word into a bunch of H/V prompts.
Through the mirror : What’s the thing to do after having an epic fight with the local Villainess ? Drinking a couple of beers with her, of course. It’s only polite.
Crash Meeting (prompt): Detective tries to bring down Villain. They don’t succeed, but what they’ve just discovered might be even more important.
Jack-in-a-box Surprise: A bunch of civilians are stuck in the room with a villain taking the form of their worst fears. Good luck with that.
Pounding Headache (sicktember): Thief has a bad day. The burglary didn’t turn well, Villain turned on them, what better moment for a migraine to begin?
Gilded Cage (prompt): Villain has Hero trapped in a ghastly – wait actually, it’s a pretty cool apartment. That’s a trick, right?
Who dies, who lives (prompt): You’ve always been a fan of Superhero, and you don’t take too well that they’ve just been killed. Where’s your partner anyway?
To make a right (prompt): A gritty detective informs his unlikely friend and unanimously beloved superhero Sunblade that distasteful things were made in his name.
Mind-Melting (prompt) part 1 and 2: Hero has a lot to do between an amnesic Supervillain, an emo teen Sidekick, and a cat. One of them is much more powerful than the others. One of my first posts here so the style is, ah, certainly made of words.
Detective x Thief
Cold Case (for sicktember): A detective gets hired to find a stolen painting. Unfortunately, he catches a cold before catching the culprits.
Cold Meeting (prompt): This detective really wishes this client would leave him in peace. He might have secrets of his own.
*
And now for something mildly different:
Whump/Horror Masterlist.
Fantasy Masterlist

now that I’m watching detective conan I find it very funny how little I actually knew about the series beforehand, because my knowledge (but mostly assumptions) amounted to:
-there’s a thief named Kaito Kid
Tumblr media
-Kaito Kid’s secret identity is Some Guy
Tumblr media
-this is Some Guy’s little brother, Conan
Tumblr media
-in an utterly incredible feat of not putting two and two together, I didn’t realize Conan was the eponymous detective despite thinking that he and Some Guy were two different people
-I could not tell you what the show was about even though it literally has “detective” in the title
-there’s over 1000 episodes
