Tumblr media Tumblr media
Date of creation: 27.03.2024
Includes all ships within the fandom "The Flash (TV 2014)" on Ao3.
Crossovers were included, other Flash media like comics, the movie (2023) etc. were excluded. The fandom "The Flash (TV 2014) RPF" on Ao3 was neither excluded nor included due to the results being too low to matter (below 10 hits most times).
This was originally done because of an anon ask I got but earlier today I answered the ask and then deleted the post because the numbers were completely screwed (I originally did this while watching a movie yesterday and... well). Luckily only seconds after me posting it someone reblogged the old post wondering about a certain ship on the chart that isn't even in the TV show and so I took the old chart down and remade it from scratch (which was a pain, ngl. I evaluated 77 ships because apparently I don't have a life). (I forgot your name, dear reblogger from earlier, but thank you!).
I assume no guarantee or liability for the completeness, correctness and accuracy of this chart despite my best efforts.
Includes fanfictions in all languages available, NOT English only.
Percentages were rounded up or rounded down to natural numbers for easier comprehension.
Poly ships were included.
More charts will follow. :)
Want to have a chart for different pairings, headcanons etc. in your favourite fandom? Send me an ask!
In case you want to compare the ship charts for "The Flash (TV 2014)" and "DC's Legends of Tomorrow":

Fake Fic asks: 🐝 Refraction
🐝 send me a fake fic title, and I’ll make up a summary for it!
Cisco doesn't know why he keeps dreaming of Barry - their patient in Star labs. Sure, it could be the guilt for what happened to him, and he's been spending a lot of his waking hours looking him up and talking to the man's family.
Barry sounds exactly like the sort of person Cisco would love to hang out with, but it doesn't explain why Cisco has such specific dreams of the two of them watching Star Trek and placing bets on who can eat the most Belly Burger nuggets (spoiler alert for himself: Barry always wins, the man is a bottomless pit).
It gets very worrying when the dreams slowly grow into strange, waking visions of Barry moving at superspeed, fighting a man in yellow, and into very creepy flashes of Doctor Wells standing over Barry's comatose body.
Cisco can't explain it, but he knows Barry is in very grave danger at Star labs and he's determined to save his future best-friend-maybe-something-else. He also really hopes Barry wakes up soon, because this will all be a lot to explain.
(In which Cisco gets his vibe powers before Barry wakes up from his coma. Set in the CW Flash show.)
(Fake fic ask game!)

Wentworth Miller in The Flash (2014) Going Rogue
S1E4
The Flash stops a robbery but the culprits get away after shooting a guard, and The Flash chooses to save the man instead of following the criminals. Joe shows Barry a book of suspects and Barry identifies Leonard Snart as the leader of the group. Snart revises his plan to steal the Kahndaq Dynasty Diamond and gets a boost when he gets his hands on a stolen "cold gun," which could kill The Flash. Dr. Wells is furious when he finds out that Cisco built the cold gun without telling anyone and now it's missing. Meanwhile, Iris is getting the silent treatment from Joe because of her relationship with Eddie.

Okay my favourite type of whump/angst/pain depiction in writing OR media is either- they’re completely still, silent, maybe quietly whimpering, eyes fully dazed or staring straight into someone else’s, and you don’t know what’s going on because they’re not saying a thing, OR- They’re screaming, tears streaming down their face, pleading for the pain to stop or too hysterical to form words, but thrashing and shaking and choking on sobs and just hoping to pass out, or die.

TOP 10 TV SHOW FANDOMS ON AO3 BASED ON NUMBER OF FANWORKS (2009-2022)
To make these bar chart race, all series titles in the TV Show Category on November 29 (or the closest date to it) of every year were copy-pasted from Wayback Machine to Google Sheets, rearranged according to number of fanworks, and then inputted to Flourish to turn into a bar chart race.
Locked fanworks aren't included in the count because Wayback Machine can’t view those, only Ao3 users can.
Unspecified means that it doesn’t say in its title whether it is an “All Media Type” type tag or not. There’s a possibility that this tag only shows up in the TV Show category, or maybe in multiple categories, like in Movies and Comics too.
It doesn’t appear in the bar chart race, but for some reason Original Work was in the TV Show category in November 2021, and then removed by 2022.
The Avengers (Marvel) - All Media Types was actually in the top 10 from 2012-2014, and was removed from the TV show category from 2015 onwards so I’ve excluded it from the bar chart.
The Avengers - Ambiguous Fandom was also in the top 10 from 2012-2020, but then was reduced to 5% of its 2020 total fanworks in 2021 onwards because The Avengers (Marvel) - All Media Types and The Avengers (Marvel Movies) was removed from its subtag list. I’m excluding it from the bar chart since it means it shouldn’t have been in the top 10 in the first place.
Jossverse was in the top 10 from 2010-2014 (Top 2 in 2010 and 2011). In 2018, it was removed from the TV Show fandom list and works tagged with it show up in Buffy the Vampire Slayer (TV) instead so I’ve excluded it from the bar chart.
89% of the Sherlock Holmes & Related Fandoms fanworks in 2022 are tagged with Sherlock (TV).
Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is a subtag of Marvel and Marvel is a metatag for all Marvel works of various media, including comics and movies. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (TV) is the only TV show that appears in the top 10 fandoms listed in Marvel and MCU’s fandom filter in 2022, and it’s only 5% of the fanworks in the Marvel tag. Half of the Marvel tags’s top 10 fandom filter list are movies, and there are also 2 All Media Types tags.
As for DCU, 6 of the top 10 fandoms listed in DCU’s fandom filter in 2022 are specifically TV shows: 13% of its fanworks are from Supergirl (TV 2015), 9% are from The Flash (TV 2014),  8% are from Arrow (TV 2012), 5% are from DC's Legends of Tomorrow (TV), 4% are from Smallville and 4% are from Gotham (TV).
As for Batman - All Media Types, none of the top 10 fandoms listed in its fandom filter in 2022 are specifically TV shows: 5 of the fandoms listed were comics fandoms. 2 were all media types and 1 was the Nolan movies.
Maybe it would have been better to do a bar chart with fandoms that only appear in a single category (In this case, the TV Show category.). Some of the fandoms that ranked have popular other media outside of TV Shows that boosted their rankings. It would take more effort to filter out, but let me know if you’re interested in seeing a bar chart race like this. If there’s enough interest, I might get motivated enough to work on it, haha.
Thanks for understanding and hopefully I didn’t mess up anywhere! 🙏

What, exactly, went wrong with How I Met Your Mother?
On January 28th 2023, Neil Patrick Harris reprised his role as Barney Stinson for the spin off show How I Met Your Father. After the episode aired, one of the show’s creators, Isaac Apator, was interviewed by Entertainment Weekly about getting Harris on board:
Hilary [Duff] was so excited to work with Neil. […] They have so much in common — they both were these giant TV stars when they were still in middle school and now they've both fronted the How I Met series.
Hang on. What?
-
How I Met Your Mother, or HIMYM, was a sitcom that ran from 2005 to 2013. While it never reached the beloved status, or ratings, of its similar precursor Friends, it was well-liked and respected, receiving decent praise, viewers, the occasional Emmy nominee — especially during its earlier seasons. It had a solid cast with great chemistry, and, with the premise of the show being that the main character, Ted, was retelling the story to his children decades later, HIMYM had the freedom to play around with its narrative, playing with non-linearity, flash backs and flash forwards, and unreliable narration, all while keeping exceptionally strong continuity from season to season. HIMYM had a solid and devoted fanbase, active fandom, and seemed primed to live a comfortable life in syndication after it came to an end in March 2014.
And then the finale aired, and things all fell apart so thoroughly, and so horribly, that it wasn’t until Game of Thrones that any show’s finale came close to betraying expectations and thumbing the eye of the majority of the viewers as HIMYM’s ending did.
The wedding of fan-favorites Barney and Robin, the focal point of much of the show, led immediately to a quick and brushed passed divorce. The friendships of ‘the gang,’ said repeatedly to be that of family and all-important, fall apart, with Robin leaving for decades and Barney quietly vanishing halfway through. The mother, perfectly cast and played by Cristin Milioti, is killed via voice over. Characters are shoved into position, relationships waved away, and in the final moments Ted and Robin, a relationship the viewers were told again and again was both impossible and would never happen… happened. And that’s a wrap.
Backlash was huge. A relatively-thriving fandom died overnight. Complaints were innumerable: The finale ruined the entire show. It came out of nowhere. It made no sense. The series creators admitted to having written it, in part, in the show’s second season, long before many of the show’s pivotal relationships and character arcs; it no longer worked in the show’s ninth. An alternative ending was cobbled together from existing footage and intentionally leaked. Carter Bays and Craig Thomas’s other projects were repeatedly rejected.
The finale had defenders, but was nearly universally panned, with even those who liked the premise finding fault in the execution. It seemed to come out of nowhere, and slap the viewers and fans in the face. It contradicted episodes and seasons before. How could anyone think it was a good idea!?
Where did the show go wrong?

Chapters: 1/1 Fandom: The Flash (TV 2014) Rating: Teen & Up Audiences Word Count: 9.3k Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Relationships: Barry Allen/Leonard Snart Additional Tags: Secret Relationship; Enemies to Lovers; Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence; Barry Allen is The Flash; (Not THAT Big of a Canon Divergence); Teacher Barry Allen; Post-Oculus Leonard Snart; Outside POV; Misunderstandings; Secret Identity Summary:
Normally, she would've been doing a covert fist-pump in the produce aisle to celebrate, because her gaydar had totally been right about Captain Cold.   But normally, she didn't need Captain Cold to help her buy her little sister's cold medicine. (Cough syrup was a controlled substance, apparently; who knew?) And normally, she didn't need Captain Cold to stop flirting with her chemistry teacher long enough for him to actually help her.
In a just world, Barry would've realized that he had no reason to keep working for the C.C.P.D. after Henry died, and found a job that added a little bit of meaning to his life, instead. This fic takes place in that world.

Guide to all charts on this blog
The "most popular ships" and "most popular tags" charts are most often connected to a certain character.
Please not that the number of percentages in my pie charts correlate to the numbers in the chart and NOT the overall number of hits I got.
Meaning: All the hits displayed in the chart make up 100% and if I get many hits off Ao3 not all the hits will be displayed in the charts and the 100% will be made up from the most popular hits only (which are then displayed in the pie chart).
Long story short: I let Excel convert the real numbers I make the pie charts of into percentages.
I try to make my charts as easily accessible as possible. This includes:
writing that isn't too small
numbers and writing in black instead of grey etc.
colours that are easily distinguishable (no too dark colours next to each other etc.)
no colours from the red/green spectrum directly next to each other because some Tumblr users might have red-green colour blindness
colours that won't make you fall asleep
colours that (in combination with each other) won't give you an epileptic episode from looking at them
everything written outside of pie charts instead of outside and inside for easier comprehension
the same kind of chart for the same categories (pie charts for ships, bar charts for the most popular tags etc.)
I cannot account for everything though and might make mistakes. Some of my earlier charts might also not really conform to the above in all aspects.

How do fans engage with the source material when there’s already canonical queer representation?
Rachel Marks looks at the fandoms for the DC Comics TV shows (like Flash, Supergirl, Arrow, and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow), which have been including queer characters since 2014 when the characters Sara Lance and Nyssa al Ghul shared a kiss in Arrow. Read the whole article for free, which is in the newest issue of the open access journal, Transformative Works and Cultures: “Fan perspectives of queer representation in DC's Legends of Tomorrow on Tumblr and AO3.”
Marks finds:
Fans generally appreciate and care about queer representation in Legends, but they often overlook representation of people of color. For instance, pairings with characters of color get less attention.
Canon queer pairings get the most attention, but noncanonical pairings are still common.
“In sum, Legends fans show their appreciation for canon queer representation in television by frequently featuring canonically queer characters in their posts, highlighting the positive qualities of those characters and their relationships. Fans appreciate seeing multiple LGBT characters represented on television and get enjoyment out of seeing same-sex couples being couples on screen. However, this is not all they focus on when blogging or writing fic about their favorite characters or ships. Fans want to enjoy viewing canonically queer couples and queer characters on television, but they also want to enjoy alternative interpretations in which noncanonical ships are read for their subtextual elements. Fans simultaneously enjoy watching and creating content about a show that has canonical queer representation, while continuing the queer fan tradition of forming their own interpretations of queer characters and relationships.”

Barry blinked hard, trying to clear his vision. Through the greyish haze of incoming unconsciousness, he made out a buzzed head, tilted at a familiar angle, and a pair of grey eyes suddenly came into sharp focus, gleaming like gunmetal under the harsh fluorescent lights.
“Snart?” It came out slurred through a bloody lip. Barry dragged his gloved good hand clumsily across his mouth, smearing red down his chin. “What are you doing here?”
