The stumbling tall silhouette of Arthur Shelby was crossing through the thick haunting mist of Birmingham. As unwelcoming the town was during the day, it was nothing compared to night time. When sun faded behind the horizon, chased by the pale glowing face of the moon, the whole city turned into a cut-throat area. Arthur brought the neck of the bottle he was holding to his chapped lips and gulped down a mouthful of pure Irish whisky. The fire trail the beverage left behind it as it went down his throat reminded him he was alive — he could still feel something, even though it was the alcohol’s burning. An animal growl escaped from his lips when the bottle left them only for him to lean his back against one of the church’s gigantic concrete walls. A loud raven’s croak torn the silent veil of the night, making him swears. The gravel in his voice answered to the dull bird, which was watching him from a tree with his tiny and beady eyes.

The raven — which was rather large for a bird — tilted its head to the side and kept staring at the drunk man with a cunning interest. Its black eyes, shining under the moonlight, seemed filled with both a wise glare and a mocking sparkle. Soon, Arthur’s curiosity for the raven’s unusual behavior turned into a senseless anger when he understood why the bird was focusing on him, his explosive rage strengthened by the incredible amount of alcohol he had drunk a bit earlier.
« It’s the damn blood is it? Stop lookin’ at me like I’m — I’m some kind of monster, or a beast or I don’t fookin’ know what else! Go to Hell! »
The bottle flew towards the raven but it did not flicker, as if it knew Arthur was not in the shape of being quick nor particularly precise with aiming. As the glass smashed into the ground, Arthur hit the wall behind him with the back of his head and let out a frustrated scream. No more cocaine, no more auto destructive behavior nor suicide attempts for two years straight, and tonight he fucked it all up. He was convinced he could get better, and God knows he tried his best to do so. Got sober from every poison he used to take, got a religious wife that was trying to turn the wolf in him into a sheep… Hell, he even brought her flowers every damn day. But then came troubles, taking the shape of his little brother, Thomas Shelby.
He asked him to do the dirty job — again.
With his calloused hands, he took another man’s life. At first Arthur thought he would not be that disturbed at the idea of killing someone, after all he had done that almost his entire life. Just one last time, he told himself, just one last time and I’ll go back to my little peaceful life with me wife.
Yet, the guilt and the shame that struck him after bashing the lad’s head against the edge of a sink until his face became a pile of squishy flesh soon became too much to handle.
As the last spurt of blood spattered his face, Arthur’s clouded mind became suddenly crystal clear: it would never stop. After that epiphany, the older Shelby brother contemplated how everyone he deeply loved tended to use him. For Thomas and the rest of the family he was a mad dog, the combat brute whose only times he could enjoy life without a muzzle were when he had to rip someone’s throat apart. For his father, he had been nothing else than a poor naive hound that would have done anything to receive his respect. As for Linda, her love was a cruel mirage he wanted to believe with all his heart — but the illusion had vanished in smoke. Whether she considered him as her personal test subject for Christian brainwashing or as a tool to get what she wants, Arthur could not tell. What he could tell though was that he knew she did not really loved him. She wanted to mould him at her will, but he was no lamb. He was a wolf, a beaten and lonely wolf, but still one. And there was no love for rabid wolves, only a bullet through the brain to cure the madness.
As his skull buzzed with macabre thoughts, whose unpleasant noise reminded him of a furious beehive, a bewitching voice pulled him out of his auto-destructive spiraling. Standing at attention and listening carefully, he came to realize that someone was singing inside the church. Arthur’s eyelids fell on his steel blue eyes and the back of his head gently rested against the cold wall behind him, the same wall he had been previously smashing it with. A sighed escaped from his liquored lips as the angelic and hypnotizing voice, slightly muffled by the church’s heavy wooden doors, plunged him into a soft but oh-so-warm haze.

Lulled by the sad melody carried away with Birmingham’s cold night breeze, the swarm of raging hornets in Arthur’s brain stopped crashing against the bony walls of his skull. Another sigh — one of relief this time, for the unbearable noisy thoughts and violent buzzing had vanished. His trembling fingers, numbed by the blows he had hit his target with one hour ago and still covered with half-dried blood, slid along his temples and slicked his hair back. The utter and feral anger he had felt was reduced to void, for even his old heart had slowed its pace down in his ribcage.

The tune, embedded with melancholy, soothed his troubled mind and to be honest, he could barely believe it. When that switch in his brain flipped, God knew he was not in control anymore - even dear Linda, who still managed to hush down some of his tantrums, could not tame the beast inside when it broke free a bit more fiercely than usual. Yet, this voice did so. This stranger, faceless and nameless ghost of the night, brought him back to sanity with the sole power of her voice. The words she was singing, with her a juvenile and enchanting tone, were wrapping his heart. Arthur sniffed and fought hard against the dawning tears that were forming delicate crystal beads at the corner of his closed eyes.
If he had been the jolly sailor bold, he would have thrown himself out of the boat to join the siren that was singing.

She repeated, sadder than she previously sang.
Her song sipped through his heart and filled the cracks with molten gold. Arthur’s lips stretched in an almost invisible grin without even realizing it — By her voice, he was convinced she could repair the damaged creatures like him and make them even more beautiful than they were before they had been dragged through the trenches’ mud and shit. He had barely came to his senses, almost miraculously sobered up, when silent fell again in the church. Arthur reopened his eyes, and shook his head - Had he dreamt? Had it been the whiskey singing to him? No, he could not be that crazy right? Not quite sure if he was starting to hear voices and see things, Shelby decided that he had to found out who had been singing to his very own soul. He wanted to see her, the girl who soothed his foul heart and his twisted mind. He wanted to know, no, he HAD to know, even though his whole being was fragile like a flickering candle flame caught in a hurricane and would probably shatter in million of pieces if she turned out to be an illusion.
Gathering all his remaining strength, Arthur grabbed the handle and opened the church’s door.

A shiver ran down your delicate spine at the loud silence that floated in the gigantic and empty church. The peculiar sweet yet strong scent of myrrh, wood and frankincense filled your lungs with its holy fragrance. The vibrations of the last word you sang was still echoing in the room, swirling to the high and sculpted ceiling, from which marble angels were watching over you. If someone would have told you two years ago that the only place you would find comfort would be a church, you would not have believe it. You had never been particularly fervent about religion, but you did believe in higher forces whether they were good or bad. More than a matter of faith, the church itself was an old friend of yours. A gargantuan friend of stone, holy titan always welcoming you even in the darkest moments of your life. What you liked the most were these lonely moments at night, during which you could light up dozen of candles and sing your sorrow to the status and colorful stained-glass windows. No gossip from the parish, no believers swarming like ants within these mighty walls. There were just you, the candle lights and the soothing silence. For a few hours, you could finally find peace.
Brushing the varnished wood of the altar with your thin fingers and painted-red nails, you let your mind drift and, suddenly, the world around you vanished. You sunk so deep in the abyss of your thoughts that you did not hear the creaking sound of the heavy door opening, nor the footsteps that followed. All you could heard were the « Burn witch, burn! » that hundred of villagers screamed at you in the woeful remembrance of your past. And in spite of your immaculate porcelain skin, you bore the scars of their words deep in your soul.

Arthur made a few steps before freezing, his body refusing to come closer as if the aura around the creature that was standing back to him , right in front of the altar lightened up with dozen and dozen of small dancing flames, was too sanctified to be violated. Bathed in the soft and warm orange hue of candles, the long white hair of the woman fell down the small of her back like an ivory waterfall. Right above her the pale glow of the full moon coming through the stained-glass window formed a luminous halo around her head.
His breathing stopped, choking in his throat at such a divine vision. The gangster opened his mouth to speak but no words managed to come out. He had never been good with words anyway. Instead he moistened his lips and swallowed, his mouth dry. The white-haired girl had started to hum the same song she had been singing a bit earlier, not aware of his presence — and he did not dare to disturbing her as if he feared God’s punishment. He took another step, the wooden floor creaking under his sole.
This time the angel — because he was convinced it was one — jumped and turned around, an expression of utter surprise veiling her sweet face. Her fox eyes, adorned with two iris so fair it reminded him of aquamarine stones, scrutinized his slightest movements. She remained petrified for what felt eternity for her but, regarding him, time had stopped for good. Arthur finally inhaled sharply, coming back to life.
All those endless nights of crying, all those endless nights of praying in vain for something or someone to save him, and here you were… His salvation.
He had asked God to send him, the most desperate sinner of all, His most beautiful Angel and He had done so.
She was not just pretty. She was otherworldly and vaguely threatening. Almost ethereal in her short white dress whose cut let her naked back for the world to see.
« I waited for ya. » He whispered.
She blinked, her full and juicy lips opening with surprise.
He stuttered, looking down and decided it was better for you if he stopped talking. The gravel in his hoarse voice, as strong as it was, sounded indescribably frail. As if this tall and slightly threatening man could shatter at your single touch. Now he felt stupid, clumsy with words contrary to Tommy and his naturally eloquent and charismatic speech. In addition to the unpleasant impression of being a fool, Arthur’s own whisky-scented breath and the strong metallic smell of blood reminded him of his horrific appearance. Overcoming the awe you infused in him, panic started to kick.
You frowned, and all of sudden he did not look that impressive anymore. Swept away by the wind, your face relaxed and wrapped itself with a calm, almost placid expression. You exhaled through your nose and walked towards the gangster, who had brought his bloody hands to each side of his head and was now pulling his own hair in a desperate attempt to not lose track.
« Where does it hurt? » You asked with a quiet and soothing tone, for you were concerned about all the blood he was covered with.
Arthur raised his gaze toward the petite white-haired doll who had just pressed one of her cold little hands on his. Your ice against his fire made his legs weak and his heart missed a beat. How his breathing calmed down at your touch was a mystery, but it did. Not quite comprehending why you did not seem scared of him, he stuttered again, all flustered.
« Shhh, shhhh. Everything’s okay, take a deep breath and answer with all the time you need. » Your hand gently tightened its grip, willing to show him you were there and you were not going anywhere until he feels better.
« Where does it hurt? »
« Ev-Everywhere love. It hurts everywhere. »
His hands, his face, his body, his brain, his soul, his damn tortured soul… It all ached too much, and too constantly for him to bear anymore. E-ve-ry-where, that was all he could say because pain was all he could feel.
Without answering, you pulled him to the altar and invited him to sit on the marble stairs. The strong and fierce gangster followed you without the single physical resistance and gave in between your hands, as a rag doll. All he did was looking at you with his charming but oh-so-exhausted blue eyes as you tore the fabric of your dress near your thighs and soaked it in holy water.
« Let me wash away the blood. » Your voice echoed in the vastness of the church, enticing and haunting at the same time — enough to send a pleasant shiver down his spine. You had barely finished your sentence when you started rubbing the wet cloth against his hollow cheek to clean his pale skin from the dark red blood. Once again, he could not help watching you during the whole ordeal all the while enjoying the fresh sensation of the holy water cleansing the dirt of his soul. Not minding his stare filled with fascination, you focused on your task, brows slightly furrowed and fingers blessing him with the softest and most caring touch someone had given him.
« Yer an Angel. I swear you are eh. »
You quickly glanced at him, a sparkle of amusement shining in your cunning celeste blue eyes, before looking back at what you were doing. The weight of his gaze brought fire to your cheeks, for he looked at you like he had just realized what love was.
He looked at you, and to his greatest surprise, found Heaven in your eyes.
I'm super new in the Peaky Blinders fandom, so please bear with me... Especially since English is not my native language. To be honest I am kind of scared to post it so any comment, review, reblog or constructive criticism is welcome. Also, I'll be more than happy to meet people in the Peaky Blinders fandom! In the meantime, I hope you enjoyed some Arthur and Heaven. Still don’t know if I’ll write a full series or snipets of these two love birds.

• Christmas in New York is always a hectic time of the year. The last week of the holiday season was always spent with adults rushing to buy a last minute gift for their partner while parents attempted to pry their kids from shiny display windows
• However, you, being friends with a guild of ninjas, had your own problems. Namely, what exactly were you supposed to get four giant mutant turtles and their rat dad?
• Food and gift cards were out of the question. Unless it was pizza, you weren't sure they would eat it, and gift cards would be rendered useless by their mutant appearance. No shopping sprees were going to be held for the brothers anytime soon
• After many frantic late night texts sent to both April & Casey—and one call to Splinter on the cheese phone, which you were scolded for later—you eventually settled on four gifts for them
• From you, Michelangelo would be getting a new skateboard with a five hundred pack of stickers to decorate it with. That had been a tough call, considering you knew how much he loved his current set of busted wheels, but you decided the purchase was worth it in the end
• For Raphael, you got him a can of roach killer
• It's a gag gift, of course, but he wouldn't have to know that until after the embarrassing teasing ceased
• His actual present was a new set of paints and canvases—most of them from a brand you knew he loved, but had a hard time getting ahold of since they were produced in Japan
• Leonardo's gift would consist of a limited edition Space Heros comic you knew he had been itching to get at for a while now. It was probably the most expensive—and when you say expensive, you mean expensive. Comic owners were really protective about first editions—but it's worth it
• As for Donnie, you had gone a little old school with him. Instead of going out and buying a gift, you had instead sat down at your kitchen table and brought out the scrapbook scissors
• The following poster you created consisted of all of the most memorable moments in scientific history—from the creation of the periodic table to the splitting of an atom
• Right in between all of those amazing discoveries, you made sure to include important milestones in Donatello's life. Starting on the day that all five of you had met
• While you were slaving away over your rickety dining table that was very much due for an upgrade, the turtles were having a present wrapping party of their own
• When it comes time to wrap their gifts, Raph's the artist of the group. He would probably be really good at it—cool bows, smooth taping jobs and all—if he didn't get so pissed off at the wrapping paper for giving him little paper cuts. In the end he just uses the little bags with tissue paper stuffed in it. Much easier
• Mikey is. Uh. Mikey. His presents are always fun and full of surprises—one year, you got a pie to the face—but his wrapping most certainly is not. Ends up just having to go to Leo or Donnie to help him, or it just ends up an amalgamation of tape and paper. Mostly tape.
• Leo's probably the most normal out of the group during the seasonal activity. Gets it done all in one afternoon fairly easily, and most definitely uses some limited edition Space Heros wrapping paper he found online. What else, of course
• Donnie is really methodical about it for some reason? It's just wrapping, but he uses equations and an actual whiteboard full of complex math for it. What color matches best, how to cover an awkward shaped present perfectly, the cost of labor, etc
• April ends up doing both her and Casey's in the end. He's too lazy to actually do it and just ends up annoying her until she does
• In the end, Christmas in the lair goes down perfectly. You, April and Casey were all able to slip away from your parents houses for just a moment to witness the Hamato clan open up your gifts, each of you sitting beneath the soft glow of a Christmas tree that Splinter had pulled out from somewhere

Juice Ortiz X Reader Fic
*Hello my dears! Please be patient with me as this is my 1st SOA fic! Thought I’d try it out here with you wonderful peeps! Now, a little about this story:
Reader is Opie’s half little sister (we’re going to say they share Piney as a dad, she has a different mother than Ope)
She returns home to Charming to own her own business
Reader is plus sized (since that is what I identify as and can write from personal experience)
This may not follow the seasons. It’s an idea that popped in my head from the song it’s named after. I hope you enjoy it! Please, feedback is appreciated!*

~He was the missing piece I didn’t know I needed until he walked into my life. The day I returned home, that’s when I met him. That was the day my life changed. ~
I stood in the middle of the old building, just coming from signing the paperwork to make it mine, for a cheap price I might add, from the old man who used to own it. I couldn’t help but smile. My smile grew bigger as I heard the motorcycles pulling up out front. This is what I had been waiting for.
My back was still turned to the doors as they opened, sending a ray of sunlight in, illuminating the place better.
“We’re looking for the new owner of this old place. Know where I can find him?” A deep voice boomed in the almost empty space.
I chuckled. “Yeah, but it’s not a him. I just bought it off of old man Sinsom.”
“I know that voice.”
“Me,too.”
I smiled as I turned to see my older half brother Opie and his best friend, Jax, standing in front of Jax’s stepfather.
“Hello, boys. It’s good to see you.”
Opie laughed as he strode over and pulled me into a hug. “(Y/N)! When did you get back?”
“Today. Well, last night actually. Drove up so I could sign the papers making this place mine.” I waved my hands around me.
“It’s good to see you, Darlin.” Jax said as he hugged me tight.
“You, too.” I stood back and looked at them. “I see you grew up and got VP Teller.”
Jax nodded. “Yeap.”
I looked at the other guys standing behind them. “Well, I’ll be damned! Is that Tiggy?”
Tig smiled and opened his arms. “Hey, baby. It’s good to see you all grown up.”
I gave him a hug, him being my second favorite when I grew up around here. “It’s only been three years since I last seen you.”
“Hi, Bobby. It’s good to see you, too.”
“You, too, sweetheart. You’re old man’s gonna have a fit when he sees you.”
“Speaking of, where is he?”
Bobby nodded his head towards the door. “He’s comin’. Takes him a few to get around with the oxygen.”
Just then, the doors opened and in walked Piney. The man still looked the same as he did three years ago. I couldn’t help the smile on my face when I seen him.
“Hi, daddy.”
“My god. (Y/N). You’re back. Come here, sweetheart.” He smiled.
I gave him a hug and just held him. I had missed him the last few years, I missed them all. He held me in front of him by my shoulders and looked me up and down. “Still as beautiful as ever.”
“Oh, Opie. You didn’t tell me he’d went senile.”
Opie laughed. “He gets that way sometimes.”
“What? No love for me? I’m wasting away over here.”
I turned to see Clay with an arrogant smirk on his face. I gave him a quick hug. “It’s good to see you, Clay. How’s Gemma?”
He shrugged. “She’s good. Be glad to see you.”
I nodded. Before I could say anything else, there was the sound of someone clearing their throat.
“Oh, shit. Sorry, man. (Y/N), this is Juice. He’s been with us a few years now. Juice, this is my baby sister, (Y/N).” Opie said as he wrapped an arm around my shoulder.
I held out my hand to the younger of them. “Nice to meet you.”
He nodded. “You, too.”
He took my hand and I swore I could feel electricity run through my fingers at his touch. I cleared my throat and tucked a strand of hair behind my ear.
“So, sweetheart, what brings you back to Charming?” Dad asked.
“Well, I came back to get a new start. Mom’s pissed at me. Grandfather passed away a few months ago and left me everything. And I mean everything. She got pissed when he left her out the will. Saying, and I quote, ‘I leave all my monetary and physical possessions, including the house and vehicles, to my only granddaughter, who was my world when no one else loved me in my final years. To my daughter, I leave you with nothing but the hopeful guilt you feel for abandoning your family. May you rot in hell.’”
“Holy shit! Seriously?” Jax asked, amused.
I nodded. “Yeap. And the best part is, she cannot touch anything. I sold the house after he died. It was just us the last three years and I wanted to come home. So I sold the house and all but one car.”
“So, what are you doing with this old place?” Clay asked.
“I’m going to do what I’ve always wanted to do. Own my own business. And what better way than to open up a roadside bar on the outskirts of Charming?”
“Really? That’s what you’ve always wanted to do?” Tig asked.
“Yeah. Got my business degree online while I was taking care of Grandfather and took all the right courses to get all my licenses. Found this place while looking to come home and here I am.”
“What do you need from us, darlin?”
“Some labor. I got to get this place up to code. I’m calling tomorrow to get people in here to work on the wiring and the old kitchen. I just need some help to take everything out and clean up. Plus I got to find a tech wizard to help me set up security cameras.”
“We can do that. Got a prospect that can come and we got our own tech wizard.” Jax clapped Juice in the shoulder. “Juice here is the best when it comes to all that techy shit.”
I looked at the young Puerto Rican and smiled. “Well, Juice, looks like the two of us will become friends if your as good as they say you are.”
He gave me a shy smile. “Yeah. Maybe so.”
I clapped my hands together. “Well, as wonderful as this family reunion is, I want a shower and some takeout.”
“Where you staying?” Dad asked.
“Place has a little house out back. It’s semi furnished enough to stay in tonight until my stuff arrives tomorrow.”
“Why don’t you come to the house. Surprise Donna and the kids. Have dinner with us.”
“Okay. I’ll be there. Seven?”
Opie nodded. “Yeah. See you tonight.” He hugged me and kissed the side of my head.
After hugging all the guys, minus Juice, I waved them off, noticing Juice was the last one out. I smiled to myself as I walked out the back door to my little apartment house to get ready for dinner.

Hello...just want to say, so happy !! Finally my best friend who is anti-shipping in shounen (and love to make fun of me because I have ships in every shounen that I watched/read), said that he can't find any het explanation for Gojo/Geto and Bakugou/Midoriya relationships...

It's hilarious that Gojo/Geto and Bakugou/Midoriya are the two relationships that stick out specifically considering their creators intently make them complements of one another.
Gege Akutami cited specifically that Gojo and Geto were designed to be a duo in an interview with Mandou Koboyashi (shout out to twitter user @/soukatsu_ or @soukatsu here as the real MVP for translating and adding further context for other fans). Fans seem to recognize their yin and yang design everywhere. There are countless salt and pepper shaker videos set to Ricky Montgomery's "Mr. Loverman" on tiktok, I'm positive. This is despite being marked by their dissonance.
Kohei Horokoshi has Bakugou and Midoriya recognized as two halves of the same whole by other characters in the story, most remarkably All Might who in many ways carves the deepest chasm(s) between them. The wax and wane of their unique development as individuals being integrally related is also something to note.
But this isn't unique to these two stories. I haven't even watched Naruto but know that Naruto and Sasuke serve as the sun and the moon to one another (literally within the story, their seals and by design/disposition) and I'm sure we could find this in other shows I haven't hyperfixated on haha
There's probably nothing new I can add to the MLM shipping discourse in shonen/seinen genres that hasn't been said, especially when it's been so eloquently broken down by IG user @/ariavelz. I also think there's a fair amount of queerbaiting in mainstream media and anime alike. Five seasons of Free! comes to mind...
Now the MUSIC!? In JJK? Bestie.
S1 already had me gagged with this brain worm. But, the fact that the song playing during Yuta and Rika's final moment in the fight vs. Geto and subsequently during the final moments Gojo and Geto share in that alley in JJK 0 was called "This is Pure Love"??? That's when I knew there were some Satosugu's on staff at Mappa. I don't think we need to dig into the parallels of how Yuta's fondness for Rika being the catalyst for her becoming a curse was the same way Gojo's fondness subsequently led to Geto's "comeback". Gojo, based on his experience at the time, said "love is the most twisted curse of them all" and time showed him just how twisted it really could be in season 2.
NOW THE OP!? It's just so lonely. Their cursed techniques being at odds with one another is so tragic, in a sense, and ultimately creates this divergence from one another. Geto, a genius of diligence, nobly consumes and sullies himself with the curses he has to imbibe like a martyr. Gojo, a genius of happenstance, is pristine. Born into privilege and untouched by the need to work hard or literally touch curses which Geto later grows to resent.
Meanwhile, Gojo's largely a product of isolation as imposed by his status and cursed technique and "Ao no Sumika" or "Where Our Blue Is" by Tatsuya Akitani waxes on about how, despite his best efforts, he could never reach Geto. The irony. As the story continues, we do, in fact, see that Gojo's never changed in the canonically affectionate way he regarded Geto. I think about this dissonance a lot. Literally, how did your Six Eyes miss that?

Now, I initially assumed the EP was from Gojo's perspective because Geto only seemed to smile in his presence (who's blushing face are we trying to see, afterall?). However, it is said to be from Geto's perspective and that, too, makes sense. Two viewpoints acting as bookends of the history between them.
I think what's sad about it is the way in which Gojo's POV is centered wholly on Geto, regardless of who or what he became; whereas Geto's perspective is more broadly applied to Gojo in part but also his own turmoil and moral dilemma.
Part of why Geto is thrown into such chaos is because of his inherently principled existence and yet, he is still the moon to Gojo's sun (Naruto, what are you doing heree?). Where Gojo always held a place for Geto, I think Geto assumed that his radicalization and subsequent defection marked a departure from Gojo because he was never really one to exist in shades of grey. Even if his impetus for this new society was ultimately to protect Gojo (and others like him) in the only way he felt he could.

tuesday again 7/11/23, timezone change edition
the last time i wrote one of these things, i was not quite fully packed up in ma. now, i am technically temporarily homeless in houston, bc the apartment i originally signed on was completely unlivable. crashing in an acquaintance's guest room for a bit while i have a very bad time with apartment hunting round 2
i have lived in south florida, staten island, and various shithole student housing. i understand seasonal bugs in hot places and things such as different kinds of roaches and palmetto bugs. when i say that apartment had the worst roach infestation i've ever seen i fucking mean it. in theory i will get my full deposits back, but they're taking their sweet fucking time about it.
but having that full yes-i-know-about-seasonal-roaches conversation with new acquaintances and leasing agents takes too long so i've resorted to saying it had a horrific bedbug problem, which everyone seems to go Oh Okay Yeah Reasonable For You To Leave much more quickly.

a lot of early aughts dance pop standards, to chase away the agonies as i drive to and from apartments only to get ghosted, find they were rented a week ago, or find that they look absolutely nothing like the pictures. i was really torn on which britney song to pick for this week until my sister sent me Twin Flame by Maude Latour, which i can only describe as "douchebag get the girl back song but for lesbians". spotify
also how do we like the "featured link from bandcamp or soundcloud with additional spotify link" format? in an ideal world i would buy all my music directly from the artists but realistically i use spotify 90% of the time. i don't know what your life is like, tell me if this is helpful or not.

my best friend made sad faces at me until i read The Flatshare by Beth O'Leary, and it was a little nice to see someone else's dire housing situation get resolved neatly and with thematic consistence in several hundred pages. it was also nice to text her snippets with "WHAT?????" every so often. this is a reading experience i don't have very often bc our current reading tastes don't overlap even a little bit.
i don't have much to say about it bc i didn't have particularly strong feelings and don't really read mainstream straight romance, so i can't point out what this did differently or well compared to its peers. if nothing else, it was a fluffy bit of distraction, and i think that's kind of the point?
(image from Tor) also read Saad Z. Hossein's Kundo Wakes Up novella in a waffle house while eating some of the best scrambled eggs i've ever had in my life.

while The Gurkha and the Lord of Thursday novella (TREMENDOUS) and Cyber Mage book (fun but with some dire pacing issues) are fairly standalone, i cannot imagine you'd get much out of Kundo Wakes Up if you haven't read the other two. for some reason none of the libraries i have access to have his other book Djinn City, so we'll have to procure that elsewhere.

genshin. listen. it is a free and familiar way to turn my brain off by doing open world exploration and puzzles but CRUCIALLY! most of it is completely new to me. i have not played this game in a year and a half. i have not played this game since right before enkanomiya. there was no chasm. there was no Sumeru. i have absolutely no idea what’s happening lore-wise.
i pulled for the fancy ice claymore lady and got a catboy archer (at least i think it is a catboy? the ears do give a pharaoh hound vibe... he is distinct from the extant dogboy archer). not terrible but not my vibe.

Wasted Summers
Summary: Leon has always hated the summertime. The heat makes him exhausted, depressed- and some days, he can hardly move from his bed.
At least he won’t have to spend those summers alone anymore, though. Not now that Luis is by his side. But Leon still can’t help but let his mind wander….

So I wrote this a little while back when it was starting to get hotter in my area and I have MAAAAAAJOR seasonal depression like I get SO SICK during the summertime, so I decided to project that onto Leon!!!!! It was a nice character study and ofc I’m a sucker for Luis and Leon taking care of each other through their bests and their worsts <<33

The thin summer curtains swung lazily from side-to-side just out of the corner of Leon’s eye, being blown gently by the cold breeze from outside his open window; cracked slightly to let the fresh afternoon air inside his usually rather stuffy room.
The breeze was cold- cold enough to warrant a blanket thrown languidly over his legs, but not nearly cold enough for Leon to bundle himself under them. The sun was bright and if you stood outside, you’d be sweating within minutes, but his room was angled perfectly to enjoy a nice breezy afternoon without getting too warm.
At least in theory. In actuality, though, Leon was a walking furnace. And having Luis curled up little-spoon style with his back against his chest wasn't helping the heat much, either.
Luis was like one of those massive dogs that don’t know their size yet still insist on sitting in your lap. He was tall- shockingly taller than Leon- and was probably made up of 95% limbs. At least that was the running joke between them.
Leon never minded, though. Not in a million years.
He’d take holding Luis’ body in an uncomfortably awkward position on the bed any day over cradling him dead.
Which, if you’d seen the state Luis was in almost a whole year ago from now- all the way back in Valdelobos, Spain- you’d think that would have been inevitable.
But by some divine act of God, Luis had survived.
Leon could physically feel his heartbeat when he lay his hands on his chest- As if to confirm to his brain that, yes, Luis is right here- Real and breathing and alive. And also lying curled up in his arms practically snoring the afternoon away.
Leon smiled to himself; afternoons like this had become his favorite routine. In between being the President's personal bodyguard and running around fixing other people's mess, his lunch breaks usually lasted a couple hours at around 3:00 PM. Which, conveniently enough, was the same time Luis would get let out of work.
He usually would wake up at atrociously early hours of the morning (Leon simply does not let him get up before 4:00 AM, no matter what the Lab wants) and sometimes even took the Night Shift if there was nobody else to cover it, warranting the late send-off time.
It worked out pretty perfectly for the both of them. Leon would pick Luis up from the Labs on his lunch break (And, most of the time, Luis would already be at the door like an excitable kid waiting for their parent to pick them up from school- If Luis had a tail, Leon swore it would wag every time he saw him) And would take him home for an afternoon nap not too unsimilar to this one.
The plea deal after bringing Luis home was that he’d join Leon on his missions whenever they occurred. But for whatever reason, Leon was almost never sent on Ops during the summertime. Bioterrorism just conveniently didn’t like popping up whenever it got hot, he supposed.
Which sounded great on paper. But in actuality; Leon hated summer.
He hated it for a long time, in his defense. If he had to trace back where exactly it began; he guessed around the time his gender dysphoria really started to kick in.
The heat meant less clothes, and less clothes meant more dysphoria- He’d try his damndest to cover himself up with light hoodies and bind with whatever fabrics he could find in the old Academy lost-and-found boxes, but to no avail.
Even years after his Testosterone and Military Training had sculpted out his body and offered him more freedom, he still dreaded summer.
He’s heard of people saying that they felt worse in the winter; that the cold weather and dark sky made them tired and depressed. But for Leon, it was the opposite.
The hot sun made him feel constantly sleepy 24/7 and his clothes always seemed to cling to his skin with sweat uncomfortably. He felt groggy no matter how much sleep he’d gotten the night before, and he’d wake up from naps still feeling drained.
The days seemed to last forever, and the fan beside his bed would become his best friend.
The government he was forced to work for called it laziness; Leon called it seasonal depression.
So he slept his summers away. But at least this time he wouldn’t be alone.
Leon felt a little bad- even with Luis curled up in his arms with a small smile on his sleeping figure, the blonde couldn’t help but feel a small pang of guilt thinking about all the ways they could be enjoying their summer together outside of sleeping the days away in bed.
Leon could have taken Luis to the movies. Or the beach. Or to a carnival- something so perfectly cheesy and romantic that his trope-loving knight in shining armor couldn’t refuse.
He was snapped out of his thoughts when he felt Luis shuffle down further into his arms. The sleeves of his shirt rolled up his forearms and exposed the soft arm hair underneath, and Leon instinctively did the same. He sighed in relief as he felt the cool air from the window hit his skin.
Looking for more of that relief, Leon shuffled his leg out from underneath the blankets and practically threw it over Luis’ waist; an awkward position to be sure, but all Luis did in response was sigh in his sleep, so Leon was confident he didn’t mind.
Leon began to card his fingers lazily through his lovers hair, admiring how soft it was even without having been washed for a couple days.
He let his mind wander as he closed his eyes and buried his nose against Luis’ skin- taking in the familiar scent of leather and cigarettes.
He wondered what Luis’ summers used to look like before he met Leon. Did he used to go fishing in that lake he had fought Del Lago in? Did he used to run around in those endless woods to hide in the shade from the hot Spanish sun? Did he walk along the mountainside bridges with his Grandfather, borrowing his hat to avoid getting sunburnt? Did he have friends to share the summer with? Did he miss his childhood summers? All questions Leon never found the perfect opportunity to ask.
Leon felt an imaginary sense of jealousy just thinking about it. He never got that classic 80’s kids-on-bikes summer holidays like most other boys his age did- most mornings were spent taking care of his parents after violent hangovers.
He looked back over to Luis. His shoulders rose and fell with his even breathing. He smiled and cuddled him closer;
He never had a person to feel this safe around.
He never had somebody to waste away the summer with.
Not until now. Not until he met Luis.
He turned his head and pressed a warm kiss to Luis’ neck; which, much to his surprise, actually got a response out of him.
“ You should be asleep, cariño”
Leon chuckled sleepily. “And so should you.”
“You’ve got work in thirty minutes,” Leon could practically hear the pout in Luis’ voice as he instinctively snuggled down further into his arms.
“You need the rest more than I do”
“I’ll only sleep if you sleep, too”
There was a pause from Luis. Before he groaned and kicked part of the blanket off of his legs.
“ Fiiiiiiiiiine. Only because I love you, though, Sancho”
“I love you too” Leon had to bite back a smile at his faux-annoyed tone as he pressed a kiss to the top of his head.
Another moment of silence passed over them.
“Hey, Luis?”
“ Hmmmm?”
“You don’t actually mind doing, well… “ Leon waved his hand over the bed, “ This with me, do you? I feel kinda bad I’m not spending our first summer together differently…”
“ Leon,”
Luis took Leon’s hands and brought them over to his lips- and although the blonde couldn’t see it, he could feel his smile as he kissed his palm.
“I don’t care what we do together. Just being with you is more than enough”
Leon was about to open his mouth to object again before Luis added;
“Besides. I like taking these naps with you. It makes me feel like an Abuelo”
Leon threw his head back and laughed at that comment, feeling that familiar glow of relief and appreciation sitting at the bottom of his chest once again.
“I like taking naps with you too, Luis”
“If you like them so much then you should actually go to sleep”
“ Ok Ok I will I will!!!”
“Te amo, Leon”
“I love you too”

Pretty good answers, happy new year! 🥳 here’s the first questions of 2024! :D
1: since Jake & mar’i are descendants of a feline race, would it make sense to have a fear of dogs or at least the bigger ones?
2: what does the duo do on New Year’s Eve?
3: does the duo do anything special on New Year’s Day or is that day treated like any other day?
4: what’s one secret does the duo have, besides the obvious stuff like secret identities? Like Chris saw Kon scratching his butt and sniffing it & Kon tells Chris don’t tell the others for example.
5: what’s their sense of humor like? Besides the silver age puns they like to do?
6: here’s season 3 of Superman & Lois rewrite: after the battle with Zod, mysterious purple kryptonite came into the world from the phantom zone; which gave regular people powers, Bruno mainhuim, the crime boss of metropolis, mange to grab a hold of it & turn it into a drug (which is X-kryptnite, in the series) & sold it like how normal drugs are sold. A group of bullies at Jons & Chris’s school mange to get some (because of plot lol) & either bully Chris & Jon at school or become a group of small super villains that robs bank & pick on anybody weaker than them. Of course Superman, Nightwing, & superboy stop them, with Chris & Jon doing bullying tatics as a sort of karma & irony like wedgies & diping their heads in puddles of water. The season ends with Bruno being stop and put in jail & all the purple kryptnite being destroyed or lock in the fortress.
And now, about four days after the first day lol, here’s the first answers of 2024 @pin-crusher2000 ;-)
1) While it’s a common thought among many who take note of that genetic lineage, since Jake has Haley aka Bitewing as his canine companion and gets along well enough with both Krypto and Ranger whenever The Kents bring them up, it’s more dependent on how used to the dogs in question Mar’i and Jake are. Basically, like with real cats and dogs living together, it depends on how long they know each other and how used to each other’s company they are.
2) It’s a massive gathering at Titans Tower where both Graysons and Kents visit, along with all the other Titans International, the Batfamily, even some Justice Leaguers and JSA members. The Duo usually stick next to their fellow StarKnights, hanging out in Dick’s own room and talking about their plans for the year ahead of them. Once it comes time for the Big Countdown, every single person there is gathered at the Ops Room to watch. Once Midnight hits, Chris and Jake take the karaoke set and do an impromptu show of their favorite songs for the crowds. The Duo themselves stay up at least until around 2 am since the day after was still in Winter Break for them
3) As for the following New Year’s Day, I can see the Duo take it relatively slow. First after helping with clean up efforts from last night, they’d be at the Grayson apartment, in Jake’s room making a small New Year live stream and play through of some old games, mainly the Pipeworks Godzilla Trilogy (Destroy All Monsters Melee, Save the Earth and Unleashed). They would of course invite Meredith and Thara for the chat. Finally for the night, they’d go on a quick patrol across Bludhaven, taking down any smaller crime activity and pulling over drunk drivers before wrapping it all up and getting rest for tomorrow.
4) I say Chris once confessed to Jake of one time he let a little piglet from the barnyard into his room after it got spooked by a passing thunderstorm despite usually animals not being allowed in besides the dogs. Clark was the only one who found out about it and allowed Chris to keep that pig with him for the night, later making small renovations to the barn so the sounds of thunder would be muffled and not scare animals like said piglet as much anymore.
On a more funny note, Jake in turn tells his best friend one time attempts watching R Rated horror flick on Halloween at Midnight. Like so R Rated and horrifying, even grown adults were reported to faint when it first came out in theaters. Needless to say, Jake shutting down the tv and making a run for his bed all happens within less then five minutes. Just how for once Dick wasn’t able to deduce who put that movie in the dvd player that night is nothing short of astonishing as far as Jake’s concerned.
5) Besides from the intentional puns in the battlefield and the unintentional slapstick they do to themselves, the Duo primarily like the art of riffing and snarking. This especially shows itself when on some nights they hang out, sometimes with some of their friends, they’d watch some old cheesy 1950s-1970s B movies, having a good laugh at the hokey performances, bizarre plots, and just plain bad special effects. It’s a tradition Jake inherited from Dick who would do the same some nights with his own birth father John. For reference of that act, look up Mystery Science Theater 3000 and that’ll clarify things a bit.
6) Ah something simple and yet can involve all three main Supers. Maybe for a subplot that eventually congeals naturally into the main plot has Lois be the first to notice the change in some people on the streets who received their newfound superpowers, putting her journalism skills to use. If anything, elevating her status with in the Daily Planet as a successor to Perry White

TURN-105: The New School Year Starts! A Premonition of Turmoil
As the new school year closes in, Manjoume spends the day prior painting blue the building made white by the Society of Light. Elsewhere, Judai reflects on his battles thus far with Neos after fighting together against Saiou--from the experience of losing to Ed and his cards all becoming white, then meeting the Neo-Spacians and acquiring the Neo-Spacian cards before taking Ed head-on one more time, to his forming a tag-team with Ed to battle Mizuchi.

We're so back. and ready for some finalized emotional hits
(EDIT, 1/26: Reuploaded due to forgetting a name in the In-Between Animation credits during the ending; I'll be posting the corrected hardsub with 106-107 in the next 2-ish weeks)
After my hiatus once I finished finalizing my Season 2 subs in early October, in which I was able to get some other special stuff worked on, what better way to come back to things for Season 3 than with a recap episode? Episode 105's all done, as we get a little downtime after the end of the battle with Saiou for Manjoume to get some repainting going (which he bails on), Chronos and Napoleon grilling Samejima for his choice to let Ojin and his laser satellite participate in GeneX, and Judai taking us down the Season 2 memory lane to reflect on his second and third duels with Ed and learning about the Neo-Spacians and Light of Destruction in between (the latter is worth holding onto...), as well as their Tag Duel together with Mizuchi, while Manjoume thinks to his last duel with Judai and resolves to defeat him eventually as he walks back to the Red dorm--only to find an unexpected guest hogging up the bath in his special room. It was always a nice shake-up to have Rei rejoin the cast here after GeneX, and though she doesn't duel much (Mystic cards when), she does get her moments here/there in Season 3's first half. But other than that, not much to really think on; Samejima ends the episode by setting out to bring in Professor Cobra, who "quickly raised the level of the Duel Academia's West Campus," to help Judai grow--and knowing what comes next, that sounds like an A+ move...
On a side-note, it always amused me how the only clipshows here to be kept the same in the dub were the Ed/Judai rematch and the Mizuchi one; for some reason, 4Kids thought to add back a ton of footage for the other ones that wasn't really needed. If I had to guess, it was to help time commercial breaks better (and also padding since they cut Manjoume's bumping into Rei in the bath), but just a quick lol. (Also, the change from Samejima being grilled about letting in Ojin and effectively aiding the world's destruction to some fake lawsuit Crowler and Bonaparte were bringing up on him... why. [also also awkward Syrus-in-Blue OP edit my beloved])
That all said, a new season means a new set of OP/ENs, and this time it's a new set of songs too! Saying goodbye to 99% and Wake Up Your Heart after 80 episodes, we're given one of the best OP/EN combos in Teardrop and The Sun (aka "Taiyou"). Teardrop, also by 99%'s BOWL, is more on the melancholic side (helped by the shots of Judai being in a funk himself yet still putting on a brave front; this version of the OP was never released textless, and I'd had a textless edit I worked on previously, but was able to revamp it nicely) and ends up being appropriate for how this season ultimately goes, while The Sun is a great rock song from BITE THE LUNG (that maybe could've used slightly more dynamic visuals for the ED) and arguably could've been a good OP too. I'll be uploading the subbed and textless versions of these over onto NAC with this episode soon, and also my YouTube/Videa accounts.
Animation error-wise, with this being mostly a clipshow, there wasn't too much in new animation to pick up any errors on. I mostly reprised some corrections I made previously, though there was a small one with Manjoume and his megaphone early on, as well as one during the Today's Best Card segment at the end. Details below the cut if interested!
Anywho, enjoy! Think I'll delve back into some double releases for a bit since the next couple episodes are two-parters, so I'll start work on 106 and 107 in a bit, as best boy Johan is introduced and duels Judai, and as we learn about a certain someone behind the scenes. Stay tuned!
Fixes/Edits! (105)
As Manjoume shouts at the Blues painting their dorm blue again, he laughs and haughtily said that they'll repaint it blue to reclaim their pride, but as he does, the megaphone he was holding to his side during the panning shot as he laughs disappears the frame after the pan ends and he starts turning--even though he didn't move his arm enough for it to vanish under the screen. I fixed this by masking out his megaphone and then moving it slightly as he turns forward, then again as he turns to face Asuka as she walks towards him near the end of the shot.
During Judai's flashback to his loss against Ed, I recycled my previous fix to Hero Kid being shown as a Normal Monster by making it an Effect Monster, using the footage I edited in for it.
During Judai's flashback to his/Ed's duel against Mizuchi, I recycled my previous fix to the scene as the Mizuchis acknowledge that Infinite Demon Mirror will destroy all the Dark God Tokens out upon Dark God’s destruction, where Mizuchi #2′s side of their split-screen starts to split away a frame before #1's does, fixed by just holding their split-screen over that early-move frame so that they move simultaneously.
During the Today's Best Card segment at the end, we see Neo-Spacian Gran Mole where Winged Kuriboh's card would normally be, switched in because Winged Kuriboh is this episode's card highlight pick--but as its card spins upward, it ends up randomly disappearing, leaving a blank space where it should be for the duration of when it should be visible. I thought of making a proxy and adding it back in, but it would've been too hard to do with the JP text and the glowing on it, so I fixed this by just removing it and masking in the background over it. For the translated screen in the hardsub, I also placed E-Hero Burstlady where Winged Kuriboh would be just for this episode. (Incidentally, I thought they'd changed some of the rotating cards for Season 3, but they're actually all the same as Season 2's; I think they're changed up for Season 4.)

1. "Weeee Are Fuxkin Super Hero!!"
This is a remix song of Weeee Are Fuxkin Super Star!! It's a song that expresses the seriousness of professional heroes.
2. 「Revengers」
It will be a power-up version of "Revenge". It's a popular song in the floating scene! From revenge to counterattack!
3. 「We'll be everyone's heroes」
It's an arrangement song of "I will be your hero" . The scale of the 6th season is getting bigger, so the title is bigger than the original song.
4. 「All for my sake」
Arrangement of "Symbol of Fear". Ver with Shigaraki’s motif on the muzzle, I imagined an ominous image rather than a wild one, a solidness that is similar to AllForOne.
5. 「Dabi Dance」 A song that represents everything from his upbringing, After all, the motif of those two people is also scattered in various places. "Never use heat" and "The Power of Endeavor"

7. "My Hero Academia" is an emo song that expresses the strength of the team. It's often used in Yuei's everyone's scene!

9. 「三位一体 」(Trinity) A song that can be used in the best scene. The combined power of the two will increase, but The three of us go higher, that kind of song. I made it so that it can be folded.
10. 「ワン・フォー・オールVSオール・フォー・ワン 」(OFAvsAFO) In order to color that fierce battle, we have included the solidity of Shikomado Sukoi (?) class, All Might's motif is a victory blow.
11. 「勝己と出久 」(Katsuki and Izuku) It's good that it's not "Deku and Kacchan". . . Each battle that believed in yourself, it is a song for proof, the motifs of the two are scattered in a nice way!
12. 「Hero too 」 A rare and bright popular song for MHA. The reason why the interlude in the middle is long for Pops is that it creates time to remember her past. Ayapeta's lyrics and Chrissy's singing voice are always the best!
13. 「俺が君のヒーローになる」(I will be your hero) "We'll be everyone's heroes" made in the 6th Season. It is based on this song, originally made for Mirio saving Eri.
14. 「それいけさらに向こうへ] (Go Plus Ultra) - Arranged song, this one was made with more of a serious battle feel than serious.
15. Classmate read Rival A song that always colors the last of the movie version. Here is the slapstick battle. Write "Rivals" and read as "Classmates"
16. Symbol of Fear I wanted to make a creepy, cool song, and it turned out like this, I like the screams and heartbeats.
17. Paranormal Liberation Front From "Runaway malice" When it ran out of control and was left alone, it transformed into such a song. The wickedness is left, but it is finished solidly.
18. 「Opening 」 OP song of the third movie. A song with the image of a dashing hero appearing, Actually, there was also a serious version of this song, but this one with a sense of excitement was the perfect match!
19. 「Todoroki's counterattack 」 It's just like that, but the song that wraps the emotional scene of Todoroki's counterattack is an impressive scene even in the movie version! !
20. [Might + U] 2nd movie version. I still vividly remember the joy and excitement of being able to add music to a wonderful video. I just want to thank Makayla Phillips for her wonderful singing voice.
21. 「Heroes' mission 」 Serious and cool, isn't it? Heroes never give up! ! !

Anime Year in Review
Last year I made a silly post ranking the three shows I happened to watch. This year, I got way more into anime (and manga), so let's do it properly this time
Revue Starlight* - Easy top star spot. This anime was flawless. I watched it twice this year and will be watching it again. The story, the animation, the music were all impeccable. The music, oh my god; I listen to the soundtrack every day. Some of my other favorites on this list I'd only recommend based on your personal tastes, but this show should be watched by everyone. (The sequel and spin-offs, not so much. They all use the revues in a way that completely undermines the premise of the main series)
Heavenly Delusion - So fucking good. Second on this list, but I think it's the best show that came out this year. Deeply traumatic, but in such a satisfying way. The horror elements were so brutal and so well done, and I love that the man-eating monsters were the least gruesome part of the show. If it wasn't for the stinker of the ice monster episode, I think this could've been my favorite anime
Call of the Night* - Adored this show. Yes it's a celebration of the hedonism of vampires, but it's so earnest and down-to-earth with it that it feels so good to watch that I did it twice (sub and dub). I also got into the manga, which is sadly wrapping up next month, but hopefully that prompts an announcement about season 2
Frieren: Beyond Journey's End - Super chill show, which is a great way to wind down the week. It's such a cool concept too, following the adventurer after the adventure is over. It's just a reflection on life and I love it
The Witch from Mercury (cour 2) - Given that I run a sideblog just for this show, it might be surprising that it's so low on my list, but the second cour was a lot weaker than the first. Not nearly enough of Suletta and Miorine interacting, and way too much chaff following Guel's B-plot. I've said it before, but I think the worst part of this Gundam show is that it's a Gundam show. A+ epilogue though, and Suletta is still my favorite character this year
Scott Pilgrim Takes Off - I enjoyed the original comic and the live action movie. I didn't realize this new adaption was really a sequel, but it ended up being a great way to bring the old story to the modern decade. (Two decades later isn't much, but it was very of-its-time)
Spy x Family (cour 2) - Very fun show. Following several viewpoint characters means the individual episodes might be hit-or-miss (as much as I love Anya, the episodes at the school are relatively bland), but the overall package was sweet and enjoyable
Nimona - Another comic I really enjoyed. The movie was strong, although it cut a lot of parts out that I thought were important to the original story
The Orbital Children - Directed by the same person who directed one of my long-time favorites (Dennou Coil), the first two acts of this really felt like a modern update. Stunning visuals, great sci-fi, thrilling adventure. Went totally off the deep in the third act, though
Joshiraku* - As the characters pointed out, adapting a manga that takes entirely inside the green room of a stand-up comedy club is an odd choice. It was off-the-charts hilarious, though. Considering some of the scripts were entirely pun-based, it must've been an immense amount of work to translate, but they absolutely pulled it off
Oshi no Ko - The only reason I watched this show was because the OP was such a banger. (Several fantastic anime songs by YOASOBI this year, and Idol is easily my favorite.) The first, feature-length episode was incredible and I literally cried at the end. If it was a stand-alone movie, it would be a couple of spots higher on this list. The rest of the show was fine, but not really what I was here for. I'll probably still watch season 2 though
Arknights: Prelude to Dawn* - I bounced off the gacha game immediately, but the worldbuilding and character designs seemed cool, so I wanted to give the anime adaptation a chance. The plot was very thin but serviceable enough. At least it looked nice to watch.
The Magical Revolution of ... - Not typing that whole thing out. It was a cute show. The yuri stuff was nice, but I wish for a show about a magical inventor, there was a non-zero amount of magical inventing shown on screen

A lot of shows I really loved this year. Looking forward to next year, the anime I'm most hyped for is obviously Dungeon Meshi. It looks like it's going to be incredible. The second season of Arcane is also scheduled to come out late next year, which is also very exciting. Technically Frieren has a second cour in January, but they're airing both cours as basically a single 24-episode season, so that doesn't really count
For older shows I mean to catch up on, YouTube has recced me clips of probably every single joke from K-On!, and it's really grown on me. Definitely going to watch that soon. I'm also in the mood to watch Bocchi the Rock! again. I should also make myself watch the first couple episodes of PMMM. Nothing I've seen on Tumblr has grabbed me for that one, but it's right in the middle of some of the other shows I was gushing about here and it would be dumb not to try it

currently watching: Actually had a mostly great week of TV! Got unexpectedly good endings in Special Ops: Lioness and The Afterparty, a fun season premiere of Star Trek: Lower Decks focusing on the best ship in Trek, a good ep of Wheel of Time (or as good as you can get without *****), a GREAT ep of Foundation (although did they just do three ***s? :x), loved that ep of Shelter, liked Billions since my fave character got a win, slowly catching up on Sleeping Dog and making my way through One Night and The Woman in the Wall (which is HEARTbreaking), still need to watch this week's Only Murders. Perhaps Minx was the only one where I was a bit hmm about.
currently reading: I'm supposed to be reading several books but I decided to reread No Rest for the Wicked, this Firefly/Sarah Connor Chronicles crossover that really holds up
current obsession: I'd probably say still Cruz and Aaliyah from SOL and Shelter's...older couple. I was really hooked on The Afterparty too, gotta say

final thoughts · fall 2022
since i know there're people who like to read my opinions on the different seasons, here you have my thoughts on this (HOLY SHIT OMG WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON???????????) season.
akiba meido sensou (7.5/10)
so, i never meant to watch this show. i thought it would be just another CGDCT slice of life where maids do their maid stuff, and they have fun... I WASN'T EXPECTING THIS THO. this series is crazy, like, the first ep starts with a maid being shot in the head like ??????? and then ranko (best girl imo) starts shooting this rival maid group along with a cutsie song like ??????????????? i was both confused and charmed. this anime is such a blast, it's filled with twists and turns, random shit that it's bizarre but it also makes so much sense. i can't fully explain it, you need to watch it.

dear lord the toxicity here is astronomical. the way i was looking for a hamefura replacement and i ended up getting this... i feel scammed. this was meant to be a fantasy romance story, but it ended up being a contest to see who's the most toxic person in the relationship. between throwing someone out of a flying carriage just to see them cry and almost stabbing someone on the crotch because they want to break off their engagement with you... i don't know who's worse. they totally deserve each other.
blue lock (8.5-8/10)
i cannot decide myself on what rating i should give to it. while i do love bllk and think is one of the best sports series i've ever read, 8-bit's adaptation is... interesting. while i did think the first episode was amazing, the visual level just started dropping. some of the hand-drawn animation looks weird, and the cgi sometimes looks like it has been taken from a mobile game. i have mixed feelings with these series; while it's still fun and interesting, it just doesn't kick me as much in the chest as the manga does. if you wanna start bllk, please read the manga first.
bocchi the rock! (6.5/10)
as i said before, i'm not a big fan of CGDCT, and this series is just that. i was into the music part of the series and bocchi's social phobia (which, as someone who went through it, i think it's a pretty good representation), but it's still not my cup of tea. it bores me at times, and i'm the one to blame. it's not bad, it's just not my thing. if you're into this kinda stuff, i fully recommend it.
boku no hero academia 6 (8/10)
NOW THAT IS A GOOD SEASON. this one's adapting one of (if not the) best arcs in the series and hell yeah i'm hyped. in case someone hasn't started it, i won't spoil anything. i'll just tell you to please not worry about the quality: the art, animation and everything in general is being tretaed with so much thought and love. i'm just so happy to see all of them back!

(at this point, i've only watched two eps. my opinion on the series may change) i know the manga is popular, i know it makes a lot of anime references. i wanted to try giving it a chance and oh lord. first, it's difficult to find. second, it isn't even funny. if i'm not dropping it is because the episodes are short and fuck it. but not because you make a shit tone of anime references means that you're gonna be funny.

GUYS. GUYS. IT'S FINALLY HERE. BABE'S FINALLY HERE. AND OH LORD SHE'S LOOKING AMAZING. i've been waiting for this series for so long, (since it first got announced like holy fuck the feels). i have the entire part one on my bookshelf and it brings me so much joy (and tears and trauma and—) to finally see it animated. the animation, the art, the music, the voices— everything is just fantastic, perfect even. the op is a banger and each and every ed is just so good (some better than others imo). i'm so happy mappa were the ones that took the project like omg thanks mappa but fr fr. if i'm not giving it a higher note is because i'm afraid that would be my inner fangirl speaking so yeah. my children look perfect, that's enough for me. and fuck those who complain about the cgi istg—
cool doji danshi (7/10)
just a pretty chill slice of life short series about a bunch of dorks trying to survive in the wild. they're all so relatable and idk what to think about it. babe's also pretty absent-minded, so this is pretty comfy to me... is this how #representation feels like? besides that, there's not much to say about it since it's just... that. they exist, and i'm happy they do.

how many times have i said i don't like CGDCT series? many times, but i still go and watch them. why? because i'm dumb ig. it's just a series about a bunch of girls doing bricolage, that's pretty much it.
fumetsu no anata e 2 (8/10)
second season of "don't get attached to the cast because they're all going to die". at this rate, i think i'm made of stone because i haven't shead a tear in the entire series. i'm also getting use to the show's formula (introduce new character → make you feel attached to them → kill them), so ig that's also why i don't feel that sad anymore? idk, i do feel sad but not that sad yk. anyway, is as good as the first season so you should give it a try.
fuufu ijou, koibito miman. (6.5/10)
i started not liking the series (the male mc was annoying to me and i felt like he would only see the girls by their "personality"), but i ended up getting attached in some sort of way? it's an easy to watch, funny romcom that, even if it's nothing special, will entertain you for the time being.
kage no jitsuryokusha ni naritakute! (5.5/10)
i like the idea, but not the execution. i mean, kinda. it started being a parody of isekai series, but i feel like isekai is slowly but surely eating the show alive. i'm not that interested on the plot and the ecchi scenes and comments are... something. to give you some example: there was this scene where these girls would pose in ways others could check their breasts better and perceive them as bigger than their opponent's. or maybe the many comments they do about the protagonist's dick being a fricking sword????? umm not thank you.
koukyuu no karasu (7/10)
a historical fantasy shoujo series with interesting plot points and a cute romance?? hell yeah, count me in! each and every character is lovable af and trust me when i tell you you'll never get bored. the art is so cute and comfortable (idk how to explain it), and the romance is just... i just want them to date already, am i asking too much? definitely give it a chance.
mairimashita! iruma-kun 3 (8/10)
new iruma season and the first one i'm watching as it's coming out. the children are back and more chaotic than ever in this new arc (the best one yet, from what i heard). i just can't stress enough how this series makes me feel, how comfy it makes me feel. i've connected with the characters in such a way it just makes me smile every time each and every single one of them just appears on the screen. i'm so excited to see who'll win! (no spoilers please)
mob psycho 100 III (8.5/10)
this isn't the last season. no, i refuse to accept it. even though many characters are getting their closures and all this chaos is going on and every wish of them to have a happy life has turned to ash. this is not the end. and that never happened. no. just. leave me alone.
mushikaburi-hime (6/10)
so, they're trying to bring historical shoujos back and while we did get some interesting results (koukuuu no karasu), we also got series like mushikaburi-hime. the series is about a girl who is obssesed with books and a dude that isn't, but because he likes her he's up to deal with that little trait of hers. and... that's pretty much it. the series revolves around their relationship (which sometimes turns a bit toxic due to the male mc). the female mc hasn't progressed in over ten episodes, she won't progress now. if you're interested, there it is. but it's not a series i would recommend.
renai flops (7/10)
i said it before: i love shitshows. this one seemed to be a parody on ecchi, harem series which caught my eye. i mean, the first ep involves the dog scene which is one of the most bizarre scenes i've seen on any romcom. at first, i was gonna watch it for the laughs from how bad it all was, but then the second half happened and it changed my view on the series. from a parody that makes things absurd on purpose to something else. i would recommend anyone who's interested to watch it and please, do not spoil yourself.
shinobi no itokki (4/10)
this show is about a dude who goes to high school and he gets confessed to by a girl he doesn't know. only that it wasn't a confession but a trap, because that girl was a ninja and was trying to kidnap him. but he's able to runaway because he has all these ninja abilities that his mother forced him to learn and never questioned why. and then his mum tell him they're actually ninjas and now he has to go to this ninja school that's literally a high school building in the middle of nowhere like ????? i thought ninjas were discreet???? except no one cares about the school because then someone (don't ask, don't remember) gets betrayed and blames the dude's clan and shit happens and wth is going on????
spy x family part 2 (8.5/10)
part two of this very wholesome but also very fake family! their shenanigans are as crazy as they were in part one, and we got introduced to our queen, fiona. also, the main fake couple are growing closer due to the mission and i think that's pretty cool now get married for real this time.
tensei shitara ken deshita (6/10)
just your average isekai with better than average animation and a wholesome bond between both leads. besides that, i have no much to say about it. i absolutely adore fran and amanda, but the whole idea of fran being op almost from the start is frustrating. i wanna see her grow, but this left me kinda cold.
urusei yatsura (6.5/10)
many people were hyping this show, and i do understand why. after all, it's pretty rough fighting against nostalgia. still, even though the visuals are so cute and the op and ed are pretty good, it just shows the series it's an old one. the comedy falls flat at times along with some characters, although it's still enjoyable. i don't know if i'll keep on watching the second season, but for now i don't feel like dropping it.
uzaki-chan wa asobitai! ω (6/10)
so, uzaki is back. the first season has never been one of my favorites, but i decided to give the second season a try and watch it as it was coming out and... well, it's uzaki. for some of y'all it may be hilarious, but to me it's just fine. it's boring most of the time, although i do like the idea of the mcs dating (please do so for fuck's sake). if you're into this kind of comedy, you should give it a try.

Random-Mailbox's Favorite Sailor Moon Fics - Week 16 - Christmas Part 2
When working on the stories to include in this week’s post, the list kept growing, and growing… and growing. And even though I try my best to not have giant posts, this one will be an exception. @riverlethe made an excellent suggestion of capping it at 12, to use “Twelve Days of Christmas” song as my loose cultural inspiration. So here is how we got to the final number.

The Gift of Giving - Silent Serenade
Growing up in an orphanage, Holidays for Mamoru were not his happiest season. This story came out a few days too late to be included in the Ugly Christmast sweater post, HOWEVER, I really didn't want to have to wait and whole year before adding it to the rec list. Mamoru loses a bet at work and is forced to wear Ugly Christmas sweaters for his shifts, something he considered a terrible punishment until a friendly sales clerk at one of the shops makes it her mission to help him find only the best ones.
A Christmas Gift - @lyraterra
Usagi and Mamoru bump into each other at the airport after their flight gets cancelled due to a snow storm (very timely for the craziness of travel everyone had to put up with in North America over the last 7 days). With Usagi dropping her keys in the snow, Mamoru suggests that she spend the night at his place until they can sort everything out. This is another absolutely wonderful reveals story from @lyraterra but with a Holiday twist.
