nice to meet ya, i'm pleased 'cause i've seen you around in my astral projections i'm a mess, i'm obsessed, overdressed for you dear, this is my, my confession
there was a reason you weren’t a ravenclaw, and as you sat in front of this damned crystal ball, it was becoming increasingly evident why.
“i have Seen limitless potential amongst this group…” sybill trelawney crooned, waving her hand around in exaggerated loops. “now, relax those conscious minds and tap into your Inner Eyes to see what truly lives beyond this surface reality…”
you weren’t really sure how to access your Inner Eye. you let your eyes—your normal ones—flicker sideways to james, who seemed just as perturbed.
james looked out of place in the bright divination classroom. he hadn’t bothered untangling his bedhead and his glasses were smudged in the corners, which always seemed to bother you more than it did him. he was discreetly rebuttoning his crooked shirt and sneaking glances over his shoulder to avoid trelawney’s “all-knowing eye.”
your best friend was undeniably pretty, this you knew. even with his eyebrows furrowed and the skin on his lips beginning to peel from the harsh november air, you could practically feel the admiring gazes and swooning stares from around the room directed at james’ back—and you, by association—instead of the crystal balls the class was meant to be studying.
“alright, ‘m sorry about that, sweetheart!” james’ head popped up and he smiled at you with too much energy for so early in the morning. “ready to gaze?”
you scoffed. “please, i’ve already Seen your entire life in the time it took you to button your shirt.” you squinted at the hazy glass as you pretended to glean a message from the future.
“well, what do you see?” james shuffled closer like he’d only be able to see the same imaginary image if his thigh was touching yours.
“how interesting…” you tsked, extending a cautious hand to touch the glass. “it looks like you’re lying on the ground-”
“well, i’ve always loved naps-”
“-but you’re screaming! oh wow, you’re thrashing around too. you’re being eaten! by a big… black… dog!”
sirius’ head whipped around. he winked when he caught your eye. “it looks like we’ve got ourselves a Seer!” he announced. “c’mon, See something for us!”
james laughed, elbowing you encouragingly as you rolled your eyes. divination was no one’s favorite subject (except maybe lisa turpin’s, who was either a very gifted Seer or a very convincing fraud) and you often found yourself passing time in class by conjuring ridiculous predictions with the marauders.
you turned to your crystal ball and tried to muster up a shred of seriousness, but all you could hear was lisa turpin muttering something in the back of the classroom. godric, she had such an annoying voice. it wasn’t like you cared about divination or anything, but lisa turpin was such a stuck-up teacher’s pet and trelawney always fell for it; you were pretty sure she was lying anyway, and—
trelawney’s eyes appeared in the reflection of your crystal ball and you jerked back with a shriek, frightened by the buglike quality of her glasses further warped by the ball’s distortion. two strong hands wrapped around your biceps and anchored you in place.
“sybill! i’m so sorry, you really- i-” you huffed, pressing a hand to your racing heart. “i got caught up in my… reading.”
“not to worry, dear,” trelawney mused, patting your shoulder. she didn’t so much as look down at you as she spoke. “it appears i was right… we do have a Seer among us… now, why don’t you take a look into your ball? yes, do bless us with your premonition…”
you shook the hands off your biceps—james’ hands—and tried to smile at trelawney. it probably looked more like a grimace.
lisa turpin’s scathing look of jealousy did not calm your on-the-spot nerves. you widened your eyes at james. for a second you saw a resemblance between his large, circular frames to trelawney’s curved, oversized lenses.
james raised his eyebrows in silent communication. “just make something up.”
“what do i say?” you panicked and the corners of your lips twitched up and down.
“uh, predict something really horrible,” james mouthed. “like… tell her that pads kills me, but make it gorier and more devastating this time. also, do i look good with scars? i’ve heard girls love it when i guy is half dead and covered in blood.”
you felt a smile tugging at your mouth and you shook off the flutter of butterfly wings that james’ cheeky suggestion lit in your stomach. leaning closer to the crystal ball, you pretended to See, waving your hands around as mysteriously as you could for dramatic effect.
“i see something!” you declared, much to trelawney’s delight. you hummed, tilting your head as you pretended to look more intently. “it looks like…”
to your surprise, the hazy center of the crystal ball began shifting, almost like a white cloud of finely ground floo dust was being blown and scattered into the air. two figures, almost familiar, emerged from the dust and began approaching each other from either sides of the ball with smooth, confident strides. you frowned. of course you’d “seen” things in divination before, like a three-legged cat in your tea leaves or a tic-tac-toe board in the creases of someone’s palm, but nothing with such clarity. it was much more frightening having your first experience under the scrutinizing gaze of trelawney and lisa turpin.
the two figures began fading away and you were glad that the anomalous Sight had finally left you alone. you cleared your throat, prepared to make up some tragedy that would appeal trelawney—
two hands, one small and one large, had taken focus in the center of the crystal ball. you looked behind you. there were no intertwined hands culpable of casting a reflection. tendrils of graceful smoke morphed into fingers that interlocked until the hands folded in on themselves had suddenly become lips… lips that were brushing against each other, gently at first, before diving forward with heat and vigor. you weren’t sure whose steamy makeout session you were predicting, but it was an awful time to be thinking about these sorts of things. you couldn’t stop the tingling on your own lips and a thunderous roar in your own ears as you stared, transfixed, at the scene before you…
“-y’ alright? still there? …hey, sweetheart?” james’ hushed voice roused you from your gazing. you jolted into the present and felt those steadying hands on your biceps once more; instead of shaking him off this time, you let yourself cross your arms over your chest and cover his hands with yours. you pressed your lips into a flat smile at james and then directed it toward trelawney, who was still waiting eagerly for a report.
“i saw, uh,” you stammered, unwilling to divulge the true nature of your Sight. “i saw a dying man. yeah, it was really, really sad. he was being torn apart by a rabid dog—a big, ugly one—and there was blood everywhere!” you snuck a glance at james, who winked at you and squeezed your muscles encouragingly. “oh, it was terrible. i’m feeling really worn out and- and lightheaded after Seeing that. i think i should lay down… don’t want to overdo it…”
professor trelawney nodded, solemn but understanding. “wonderful job, dear. how honored i am to have another Seer this year… i look forward to seeing where you go… now, let’s get back to gazing, class!” trelawney lingered for a moment, staring down at you fondly, before making her way to sirius and peter’s table with a disapproving frown already loaded and prepared.
“ you’ve got the Sight, now, have you?” james teased, his frustratingly attractive grin growing with each fervent shake of your head.
“merlin, not this again-”
“what does my future hold, O great and omniscient Seer?” james pressed the palms of his hands together in a begger’s pose and leaned into your side, resting his head on your shoulder. his unruly curls tickled the bare skin at the base of your neck. the poor boy must not have slept well last night.
“you’re not funny, potter,” you grumbled. you said this each time he poked fun at trelawney’s fondness toward you and each time he ignored it.
“yes, i am.” james cozied his head further into your shoulder. you shivered involuntarily. “i know you think i’m funny. everyone thinks i’m funny. even evans thinks i’m funny.”
of course, james had to go and mention lily evans.
there was nothing wrong with lily evans. in fact, there was nothing about lily evans that could be described as less than lovely. you could see why james was so taken with her—she was clever and hardworking and kind. she was beautiful, too.
you felt your smile falter and you plastered on a new one, albeit very unconvincingly. “lily!” you exclaimed with false excitement. “oh yeah, she’s wonderful. i wonder what she’s Seeing?”
sitting not far from you, lily and marlene seemed undisturbed by your macabre prediction and james’ foolery. you watched as lily lightly tapped the surface of the crystal ball with a well-manicured finger. marlene giggled at whatever it was they Saw; she leaned over and scribbled something on lily’s divination journal.
lily caught your eye and blushed. you waved awkwardly, feeling heat creep up your neck from being caught staring. you felt james’ chest vibrate as he chuckled gently behind you. james shot up and removed his head from your shoulder when he noticed lily’s attention directed toward the two of you. he fixed his posture, shifting himself until his thigh was no longer touching yours. james nodded in acknowledgement to the two girls and you watched as lily’s smile grew.
it was cruel, you thought. it was cruel of james to make you feel this way, but mostly, it was cruel that you got upset every time the two of them seemed happy. they were two of the best people you knew—who wished discontent upon their friends? maybe that was what distinguished lily from you… lily wouldn’t be resentful if she were in your shoes.
“what’s goin’ on?” james muttered. where his head had once rested was now his warm, wandering hand, rubbing and massaging your shoulders. “you’re tense all of a sudden.” james’ other hand cupped your cheek and guided your head around to face him. his lower lip jutted (and you tried to ignore that) as his eyes searched yours. “is something wrong? did you actually see something just then?”
you swallowed hard and tried not to choke on your own saliva. yes, there was something deeply wrong, you wanted to say. it was wrong of you to feel this way toward your best friend, especially when he was feeling this way—feeling love—for someone else.
you cleared your throat. “all good, james.” you pushed his hands off you and grabbed your divination journal, holding it between your and james’ body like a shield.
--
“moony, can i copy your divination homework?” james slumped onto one of the common room couches; coincidentally, the same one you were already occupying. his head landed heavy in your lap. james sighed contentedly as he tucked his hands behind his mass of hair, fingers brushing against your thighs.
“no,” remus deadpanned, rolling his eyes at james. no, not just james… james on your lap. james and you, you and james, james was on top of you… remus needed to-
“cut it out!” you yelped, grabbing two fistfulls of james’ hair in shock. “you’re tickling me!”
james’ fingers twitched from beneath his head, sending another wave of shivers through your body that you were pretty sure james could feel. “i’m not tickling you,” james frowned.
“yes, you are!” you tugged at james’ wrists, exhaling in relief as soon as his hands were no longer touching your legs. “you’re being touchy today,” you noted. “what’s up with that?”
“am i not allowed to touch my favorite girl?” james pouted, batting his eyelashes innocently.
“no, because you’re making me…”
“shy?” james suggested.
“uncomfortable?” remus countered.
“oh, merlin!” james practically lept out of his skin. “i’m so sorry! i wasn’t making you uncomfortable, was i?”
you melted at the worry in his voice. “nah,” you admonished, wrinkling your nose, “you’re fine. come back here.” in all honesty, you were more than fine with james’ head on your lap. there was nothing sexual about it; physical affection had always been a facet of your and james’ relationship. you rather liked it, actually. if you could, you’d like to be able to hold james forever. but he could never know that.
“wait,” james said suddenly, falling into your side and grabbing your arm, which he seemed to be doing a lot these days. “have you done the divination homework? can i copy yours, please?”
“why, did remus already say no?”
james had the decency to look guilty.
“well, normally i’d let you, but the homework is supposed to be analyzing palmistry data from last class. did you- did you not do that?”
james frowned and looked down at his hand. “what does trelawney even want me to write; ‘james potter has ugly quidditch callouses?’”
“you have to analyze someone else’s palm, idiot,” marlene chimed in from across the common room. “just make something up if you have to. that’s what i did with lily.”
james looked down at his hand thoughtfully and then at yours. “you’ll be my palmistry partner, right, sweetheart?”
“don’t you ‘sweetheart’ me, potter, i’m not helping you with divination ag-”
“thank you!” james cried, throwing his arms around you and burying his head in your chest, forgetting all about his previous inhibitions. you fumbled backward on the couch until your back was pressed flat against the cushions, james on top of you and hanging onto your torso.
you could feel james’ heart pounding through the fabric of his shirt. his body was warm all over. poor james. he must’ve been really nervous about his divination homework.
“you’re the best friend ever,” james said, his voice muffled as he remained face-down, pressed against your side with no intention of moving.
marlene raised her eyebrows in disbelief. “‘best friend,’ my ass,” she mouthed to sirius.
sirius waved his hand dismissively. “his words, not mine.”
you chastised james as best as you could with your respiratory abilities compromised. he clambered off you and extended a gentlemanly hand he used to tug you upright.
instead of letting your hand go, he turned it over and splayed your fingers until your palm was exposed, facing upright and nestled in his larger one.
“you have nice hands,” james commented absentmindedly. “they’re a good size.”
“for what?” you stiffened as james began rubbing slow circles into the center of your palm, suddenly hyper-aware of how intimate your touches had become.
“for holding,” james said. he was silent for a moment as he traced your life line. you didn’t speak. you didn’t dare breathe. james’ thumb was tracing the creases in your palm because he was completing an overdue assignment, not because he was admiring the way your skin looked against his. his touch was soft because he was your friend, not because he was caressing you like a lover, you had to remind yourself.
“okay,” you responded stupidly.
“yeah, okay.” james cleared his throat. “for holding and- and for palmistry, of course. you’re still gonna be my palmistry girl, right?”
he ran his hands through his hair sheepishly, fighting a couple knots at the back of his head. james was whispering to himself, dragging the nail of his pinkie finger along the lines on your palm, like a cartographer mapping out a foreign land he was afraid to one day forget. there was a part of you that ached to tilt his chin up so he could memorize the planes of your face instead—and so you might do the same—but the part of you that treasured your friendship with james won. it always did.
“pass my bag, please?” james murmured, tapping your knee with his free hand. with a flick of your wrist, you summoned his divination journal.
“wandless magic,” marlene laughed in astonishment. “remind me why you aren’t a ravenclaw?”
you huffed. “well, i’m no good at riddles and i-”
“-oh, you’re plenty smart!” lily interrupted. you felt your heart sputter. “i mean it; you’re the only person who’s properly predicted anything in divination.”
lily sounded so earnest that you felt a stab of guilt pass through your chest. you weren’t actually good at divination—all you’ve ever seen was gibberish—and right now you were distracting james from spending time with the girl he’d been pining after for years who had just began to tolerate him.
“-and what are you doing, james?” lily asked, cutting through your spiraling thoughts.
a few beats of motionlessness from james prompted you to scratch his head to catch his attention. james seemed to startle momentarily before glancing up at you and lily shyly, cheeks slightly flushed and tongue swiping over his teeth.
“yeah, hi lily!” james blurted, blinking a few times to come to his senses. “i’m- we’re just doing divination stuff… palmistry and whatnot.”
james was all of a sudden much less confident and you felt a second knife of guilt cut through your conscience. you wanted to be the one flustering him. but that wasn’t a very kind thing to wish upon someone, was it? the guilt ate at you again—oh, how you wanted to be selfish and have your best friend all to yourself; but you couldn’t, not without tearing him and lily apart and not without ruining the most important relationship in your life, platonic may it be.
“no offense, but i’ve never seen you so dedicated to homework. and divination, of all things! did trelawney say something to you, or what?” lily shifted her weight to one leg and quirked her head, examining james.
“i thought you’d be glad to see me doing my work, evans,” james said, “you’re always nagging me about it.”
lily rolled her eyes, grinning. “you act like i enjoy nagging you. if nobody reminded you, i’m fairly sure you would’ve failed out of being quidditch captain. though, it looks like it’s not my responsibility anymore.” lily jutted her head toward you.
“yep! that’s me,” you smiled fakely, feeling second to lily once again. “so, what does my palm say?”
james turned back toward you. “right, right! so, you have the mount of jupiter, which means you have a connection to…” james peered over his shoulder at his divination textbook. “you’ve got a connectioin to the spiritual realm and divine aptitudes.” james looked pleased with himself. “hey, i figure that’s a pretty accurate reading! you’re good at divination, after all.
“hm… i think your head line is saying you let your doubts get in the way of seeing what’s actually in front of you. maybe that you fixate on what you think you know, and that prevents you from learning and growth? and…
“ooh-la-la! you’ve got a deep heart line.” james waggled his eyebrows at you. “who’s the special someone?”
you clicked your tongue. “and you were on such a roll too. nope, there’s nobody for me.”
james seemed much too cheerful at your pitiful state of loveless solitude.
“merlin, will you at least pretend to feel bad for me?” you said in acknowledgement of james’ eager expression. you loved james, but sometimes his enthusiasm shone at the wrong moments.
“no, that’s not what i-” james started. “okay, but look. your heart line really is deep. i would know; mine is too.”
“but james, you’re a hopeless romantic. everyone adores you. i’m not exactly the mushy gushy type.”
james scoffed. “oh please, plenty of people like you! what about that twat from hufflepuff- what was his name? joshua matthews?”
you looked at james, unimpressed.
“okay, i know i didn’t like him at the time… but who the hell has two first names instead of a normal surname? hey, there was also anthony abbott in third year and winston clearwater last year.”
“right, well that’s what you think. how come none of them ever asked me out, huh?” you rebutted. you weren’t that self-deprecating. you knew you were pretty and you knew that joshua matthews for sure liked you, but there was no explanation as to why, in your five years at hogwarts, nobody had ever asked you out.
“well, maybe they-” james seemed to lose momentum. “maybe they were just… intimidated?”
“wait, am i scary?” you stressed.
“no! they’re just cowards. all of ‘em. anyone who can’t tell you how they really feel… well, there’s a reason none of them were in gryffindor,” james laughed awkwardly. “yeah, that’s pretty cowardly of them. that’s why you deserve way better, sweetheart.”
“right, james.” you drawled in a way james knew you didn’t believe him. “it’s whatever. i didn’t really care for them too much anyway.”
--
do you see me or hear me, just give me a sign i just want your attention Teenage Dream on repeat as i stare into space write your name in my journal (i should burn it, right?)
you were going to toss yourself out the girl’s dormitory window. you were pretty high up; you figured the tower was high enough to at least knock you out long enough for you to forget this very, very bad dream.
well, the dream was only bad because it was so good.
in your dream, you had been in the quidditch stands with paint on your cheeks and a hoarse voice from screaming; your mittens were in your pockets so that you could clap louder. maybe if you clapped loud enough, your boyfriend, james potter, would hear you over the deafening crowd. you had tucked your nose into the scarf around your neck, hiding the evidence of last night’s activities, and breathed in james’ cologne.
you could not handle this today.
“what’s going on up there?” lily was perched on the wooden foot of her bed, brushing her long, ginger locks with all the grace of a fairytale princess. “in your head, i mean.”
you realized you’d been sitting upright on your bed and staring into space for probably a few minutes now, stuck in your daydream continuation of last night’s horrendous, disgusting, absolutely revolting fantasy.
“nothing,” you brushed off. “i’m just dreading divination. i bet trelawney’s gonna make me do a reading in front of the class or something.”
“well, at least it won’t be spontaneous,” marlene said. “we’re doing our dream journals today. you can just read whatever you wrote. bam, easy.”
oh yeah, you definitely could not handle this today.
like the cherry on top of a curdled ice cream sundae, you arrived to divination two minutes late. normally, that wouldn’t have been a big deal. (plus, you were trelawney’s new favorite and she was bound to let you off easy.) well, it was a big deal today. everybody else had found their seats, and as always, james had saved the one next to him for you. it wasn’t as if you could simply take another seat, not when he was looking at you with those eyes.
“mornin’ jamie,” you whispered, stealing a glance at the blushing boy as you dug through your satchel for your dream journal. “d’you wake up late too? looks like you’ve just run across the castle.”
james clapped his hands to his cheeks. “what, am i red?”
“a little,” you admitted, pinching one of his cheeks gently. “don’t worry about it. you’re cute.”
james went even darker. the poor boy must’ve had a rough morning too. perhaps he’d eaten the jalepeño omlettes at breakfast today instead of his usual spinach ones.
“what’d i miss?” you absentmindedly recorded the dream you’d had in your journal as trelawney lectured on about interpretation and her latest prediction.
james shrugged. “not much. lisa turpin tried sitting next to me, but don’t worry, i fended her off. i’m pretty sure she wants to peel off and wear your skin, if i’m to be honest. she’s been vying for trelawney’s attention all year.”
“james,” you teased, “i’m pretty sure it’s because she has a crush on you.”
“a crush? on little old me?” james pressed his hand to his heart and looked at you pointedly. “there’s no way. you know my heart will only ever belong to one.”
that was true. james, unlike sirius, wasn’t the type to flirt shamelessly or sleep around, though he could if he wanted. james was one of those kids who grew up on happily-ever-afters instead of beetle the bard. even today, he was a vehement defender of true love and soulmates and fate, and you weren’t sure if that was admirable or naive.
“don’t underestimate yourself, pretty boy. every girl in our class—no, probably in the whole school—has liked you at some point.”
james went quiet and for a moment you thought trelawney was behind you. (she was not.)
“every girl?” james swallowed thickly, his adam’s apple bobbing. perhaps he needed a drink of water, you thought. “uh, including you?”
your teasing smile faded. “i mean, i-”
“-now, let’s get started on our interpretations, shall we?” trelawney interrupted loudly, and it seemed your luck was turning up for the first time this morning. “shall we first try an example? how about… you, my darling?” to your horror, trelawney waved her fabric-draped arm toward you, bangles clinking together and drawing the entire classroom’s attention toward your mortified expression. unlucky again; it seemed you’d spoken too soon.
you did a quick scan of the room and then a quick scan of what you’d written in your journal. shit. fuck. shit. there was no way you could read this out loud, especially not while sitting next to james.
fuck! shit! fuck! you were sitting next to james, who could definitely see the writing on the page. you slammed your journal shut and looked up at trelawney, frenzied. “um, could somebody else read their journal, please?” you managed to croak out.
trelawney looked slightly disappointed, but obliged. “miss mckinnon, why don’t we hear from you?”
you refused to look at james. your eyes were glued to your lap as you listened to marlene clear her throat. “well, the gist of it was that gryffindor won the quidditch cup by around 200 points, which was sick, but i analyzed something else. it was really interesting, actually. y’know, i couldn’t tell i was dreaming until i woke up because it was all so realistic-”
“please stay focused,” trelawney said, the corner of her mouth twitching.
“right! sorry, professor. anyway, james was actually in my dream—yeah, hey james—” marlene said, waving in your direction, “and i’m gonna be honest, he wasn’t looking too great. super muddy and sweaty and stuff; he’s always kinda gross after games… regardless, you didn’t seem to mind.”
marlene wasn’t even trying to be subtle. she pointed a finger at you and waved it in a small circle. “yeah, the two of you had no complaints when you started eating each other’s faces off. it was such a nightmare, professor. i was having such a good time celebrating our win and then, of course, it just had to be ruined by bloody james potter and-”
trelawney cut off marlene, red-faced and unprepared. “good job, miss mckinnon; thank you for your contribution. why don’t we speak after class?”
there was a low wave of “oooh”s and hushed gossip, but trelawney shut that down as well. “no, miss mckinnon, you’re not in trouble. i’m simply curious; you seem to excel at dream work. many students-” trelawney coughed pointedly, “overlook its usefulness… dreams are a direct gateway to the subconscious, and oftentimes our Inner Minds are wiser and more perceptive than we think. you’ve done a good job, miss mckinnon; quite accurate. you have a wonderful mind and impressive clarity. this will take you far.”
marlene was smug as she settled into her cushion and elbowed lily. lily bit her bottom lip as she tried to conceal a laugh. after swallowing their amusement, the two girls looked in the direction of you and james. well, more so james. you weren’t sure if either lily or marlene could actually see you. you had shrunk into yourself in your embarrassment and you prayed you were no longer visible to the curious class.
it didn’t matter though, not really, because you were still visible to the one person whose opinion mattered most. you were seated, transfixed and frozen, right next to james, who seemed equally as taken aback. your heart was thudding so violently you thought it might grow wings, expel itself from your throat, and land in a bloody, drooly puddle on your lap. that might actually be less embarrassing than this, whatever this was.
and you couldn’t help but furrow your eyebrows when you noticed lily’s eyes still glued on james. her straight brows were raised so high they formed creases on her forehead and you felt a second wave of shame overtake you. lily must’ve been heartbroken. not only had marlene told the entire class about her dream, but she’d done so while sitting next to lily, who’d been clearly pining after james for months now. you knew marlene and lily were friends. what was that all about?
james pushed his hair back from his face and adjusted his glasses. he seemed equally as flustered as you, if not more. james’ eyes flickered between lily and marlene and ever so often his nervous hands would come back up to his face and fiddle with something—a stray curl, an itch on the back of his neck, or the tip of his pinkened nose.
“i need to use the loo!” you jumped to your feet, declaring your bladder’s needs much louder than necessary. trelawney shooed you with a dismissive hand and you scrambled past sirius and remus’ table, pretending not to notice their trailing stares on your back.
you didn’t actually need to use the loo. clarification: you didn’t have to pee. you entered a stall anyway. waves of nausea had been coming and going ever since james had caught sight of what was written inside your journal, and it was better to be safe than sorry, right? the only thing that could make today worse was if you hurled all over your uniform.
your hands were trembling as you rubbed your eyes and took a shaky breath. how were you supposed to recover from this? at this point, it wasn’t just your relationship with james on the line, but lily’s feelings too. and, if the situation escalated, you could risk losing sirius, remus, and peter to the awkwardness between you and james. you loved marlene, you truly did, but damn if you didn’t want to jinx her off her broom during the next quidditch game.
your misery must’ve made the time pass faster, because soon after your classroom escape, you heard the bustling of students pushing their way through the corridors to their next classes. you kept your head down as a couple girls streamed into the bathroom, chatting freely and checking their reflections, and hoped not to be spoken to.
“hey, you’re that girl from divination, right?” some hufflepuff caught your elbow before you made it to the door. “the one mckinnon had a dream about?”
“uh, yep. that’s me.” you pursed your lips and tried to look like you weren’t on the verge of murdering marlene.
“aw, i knew it! i just have to say, you and james are like, the cutest ever. i’m kind of jealous. victoria over there-” the hufflepuff tilted her head toward a ravenclaw girl leaving over a sink and re-applying her lipstick, “-was totally freaking out when i told her about it. she’s had a crush on sirius for like, ever. do you think you could introduce her?”
you shut your mouth as soon as you realized you were gawking. “wait, sorry, i’m a little lost. you want me to introduce you to sirius?”
“yeah, ‘cause sirius is more likely to listen to his mate’s girlfriend, right?” the hufflepuff said.
“wait, james and i aren’t together—no, marlene just had a really weird dream. we’re friends. been friends forever. only friends. plus, james is all over lily evans, so…”
“lily evans?” victoria hummed as she smudged her lipstick with her finger. “i thought lily didn’t like james. she’s always looking at him like she’s judging him.”
“‘cause she’s probably checking him out,” you countered.
“there’s no way,” the hufflepuff argued. “she’s been rejecting him since second year. she’s like, never shown any interest in him at all.”
“i mean, i dunno. but i should probably go to my next class.” you patted your side to check for your satchel. it wasn’t there. you must’ve left it in the classroom. “and i’ve gotta go get my bag—sorry, but it was nice talking to you!”
you heard the girls giggling as you rushed out of the bathroom.
the crowd of students had thinned out from when the bell first rang; you took the stairs to the divination tower two at a time. as you hoisted yourself up through the trapdoor, you remembered what trelawney had said just before you ran out.
“…our Inner Minds are wiser and more perceptive than we think. you’ve done a good job, miss mckinnon; quite accurate.”
what did she mean by that? the dream wasn’t accurate by any means—you’d never kissed james before (though you would not at all be opposed to it). everyone knew trelawney was a bit off her rocker, and you’d never taken divination seriously, but there was something undeniably odd about this situation. what were the chances you’d have the exact same dream as marlene?
“hey…” the voice behind you send a dreadful creep of goosebumps down your arms. “you missed the rest of class.”
you turned around slowly, like a character who was about to die in a low-budget horror movie. “james?”
“yeah?” james stood in front of you, holding the strap of your bag with an outstretched arm and looking unusually shy.
“um, yeah. i was in the bathroom.” you sighed, mustering the last of your sense of normalcy. “so, what’d i miss?”
“we finished our dream analysis and trelawney assigned us an essay on dream symbolism; two pages. you… uh, you left your journal out so i packed it for you. i hope that’s okay.”
“wow! that’s so- thanks, james. that’s so kind of you. thanks.” you stammered, reaching out to take your bag from his offering hand. james’ knuckles were pale, and when he released his grip, there were faint indents from how tightly his fist had held the strap.
“you’re welcome,” james said dully. “i guess we should get going, right? to class, and all.”
“yep. yeah, to class.”
there was a heavy silence between the two of you, during which neither of you moved. james’ eyes were boring into yours and rather than making you uncomfortable, it felt like he was seeing right through your thinly stretched facade of faux-platonic feelings.
“i’m so sorry, i-saw-the-inside-of-your-journal-but-i-swear-it-was-an-accident,” james blurted, eyes wide and apologetic. it seemed like he hadn’t meant to speak, and he clapped his hand over his mouth. even as you felt yourself actively disintegrating from humiliation, you still found yourself thinking how endearing james looked when he chewed his lower lip and let his eyes wander across the classroom; anywhere but your face.
“oh,” you muttered, “i’m sorry about that too.”
“what?” james’ head snapped back until he was facing you once more. he stepped forward and you forced yourself to stay where you were. james looked frantic. he blinked twice in confusion. “what are you talking about? why are you apologizing? you have nothing to apologize for,” he reassured you. his words came out like a half-formed train of thought, rushed and blurring into each other.
“it’s so invasive and inappropriate; i swear, i didn’t mean to have that- that sort of- i didn’t mean to dream about you! i don’t know what happened, it must’ve been some subconscious thought or- or something,” you blabbed, waving your hands in front of you as you tried to explain yourself. “i hope i haven’t made you uncomfortable; i don’t want this to ruin our friendship or anything, and i completely understand if you want to sit with someone else in divination or something-”
“wait, please don’t apologize!” james rushed forward in a surge of desperation-fuelled bravery. “i don’t want you to apologize.”
“you don’t want me to apologize?” you repeated dumbly. “but-”
james placed his hands on both your shoulders and shook you gently. “no, i don’t want you to apologize! i’m- i- how do i say this…” james closed his eyes and took a deep breath. you watched his eyelashes flutter with the movement of his eyelids. “i’ve had so many dreams about you, just like that one. and sweetheart, i’d love nothing more than for those to be real. i like you. i like you so much.”
you squinted at him, dumbfounded. it must’ve looked like you were judging him, because james backtracked immediately.
“i mean, only if you want it to be real- i’m sorry if that’s creepy or gross or perverted; i swear, it was all family-friendly. no funny business. i just really like you, sweetheart, and i can’t stop thinking about you, and i mean, for you it might’ve been some subconscious thought but you’re in my mind all the time,” james said. he pulled his hands from your shoulders and held them in the air, like he’d been caught stealing. “maybe i’ve misinterpreted this; maybe i-”
“what about lily?” you coughed out.
“what d’you mean, ‘what about lily?’”
“lily likes you, james. i thought you liked her too.”
“what? lily does not like me.”
“james,” you sighed exasperatedly, “she totally does-”
“i- lily’s been this close-” james pinched his fingers together, “-to slaughtering me because i’ve been trying to ask you out for nearly a year now and i keep chickening out.”
“wait, a year? you’ve liked me for a whole year?”
“um, yes. and are you gonna say anything? like, do you like me too? i’m kind of freaking out here, sweetheart.”
“jamie, are you insane? i’ve been bloody in love with you since forever; merlin, i like you so much it’s embarrassing,” you scoffed.
“what? why didn’t you say anything?” james exclaimed, mouth dropping open as he leaned backwards to look you up and down incredulously.
“well, how was i supposed to know you felt the same? i didn’t want to mess everything up! it’s not like you said anything either.”
“are you kidding? sirius said i was making it obvious!” james cringed, dipping his head in defeat. he took your hands in his and squeezed them as he chided you. “hell, even marlene and trelawney saw it before you!”
“in my defense, am i really supposed to believe what trelawney does?” you huffed, crossing your arms in frustration. “you always talk about how she’s a fraud! you were totally sending me mixed messages!”
james looked down at you. his glasses were beginning to slip down his nose and you wanted nothing more than to push them back up, but he had you transfixed. he unwraveled one of his hands from yours but his touch never left; his fingers brushed up your forearm and squeezed your shoulder affectionately before cupping your jaw. james’ thumb brushed against your mouth, coaxing apart your pursed lips and soothing your pinched expression.
“what did you see in the crystal ball?” james whispered teasingly, eyes never leaving yours.
you remembered the way your own lips had tingled as you watched the smoky figures kiss and you felt your mouth curve into a self-satisfied smirk, knowing—despite how cliché it sounded—you’d actually predicted the future. pushing yourself to your toes, you threw your arms around james’ neck and pressed your lips against his and it was like you were back in the divination classroom once more and you were feeling the haze of the crystal ball overtake your mind as you drowned in the heat of james’ kiss. there was nothing else in the world except the brush of james’ tongue against your bottom lip, his choked inhale from when you pulled him closer by the front of his shirt, and the victorious bubble in your stomach at having secured yourself an O in divination. take that, lisa turpin.
james laughed breathlessly, eyes flickering between yours as his face shuffled through a million different emotions. “i take it back. trelawney is not a fraud."
kissy kissy ooh-la-la, babe, i want ya so tell me that you want me the same i fantasize about you today and tomorrow so kissy kissy ooh-la-la, forever

The Fine Art of Lying

Peter Pettigrew x sister!reader - Sybill Trelawney x Pettigrew!fem!reader - Sybill Trelawney x Peter Pettigrew (mentioned) Trigger Warnings: Yelling, Peter is angsty, crying, mention of Peter betraying his friends. Summary: Your brother began to pull away for unknown reasons. But when confronting his girlfriend seemed like a good idea, you got more than you bargained for. Word count: 1.4k a/n: Hello!! Here is the beginning of this new series brought on by my depression and dead brother! Let's jump right in! send an ask to be tagged! I am hoping to update like... once a week? on Fridays or Saturdays also I will update the links when the next piece is written series masterlist
He began pulling away about 3 weeks before summer began, you didn’t think much of it. You had asked him a few times if he was okay and he said it was simply just the realization that it was his last year. So you let it go, because you understood what it meant to him. Prior to Hogwarts he had always been an outcast and alone, besides you of course. But that first week after meeting his friends Sirius, James, and Remus, something had changed, he had changed for the better.
However when Remus had confronted you about Peter in the last week of school, you began to worry. He had told you about how Sybill broke up with Peter, how Peter began to come back later and later in the evening, how he didn’t seem much like himself anymore. So you decided to push now, push for your best friend to tell you what was going on, to share whatever was burdening him,  like you always had.
—
You had managed to catch Peter outside by the lake, near a patch of honking daffodils, your favorites. He was laying down, watching the clouds move slowly, like they had nothing better to do.
“Petey?” You asked, even though you knew it was him. His head whipped around to see you looking over at him. “Yeah, it’s me. Are you alright?” You could hear the exhaustion in his voice, and even from here you could see the sweat that covered his forehead. If only he’d take off the jacket, he wouldn’t be heating up. You made your way over to lay next to him, your arms brushing against one another.
“I’m okay, how are you?” your voice was caring, he knew that you knew something was wrong, you were giving him a choice to talk about it.
“I’m fine.” it was a clipped answer, “Why do you assume something is wrong? Why does everyone think something is wrong with me?” his tone seemed angrier.
“I never said-”
“But you implied it! I know you!” He sat up, going to stand but you grabbed his arm and yanked him back down, missing the slight flinch when you squeezed tightly.
“No.” You looked at each other, almost bewildered at the emotion in your voice. “Tell me what’s wrong. Sybill broke up with you, you have been staying out late and avoiding your friends. What is happening to you?” “Nothing! Just drop it!” Peter had never yelled at you in anger before. But right now, it felt like you had been slapped, the anger was practically radiating off of him. He pulled his arm back and stormed off towards the castle.
So you went to Sybill, a seer and your brother's ex-girlfriend. Maybe she could enlighten you somehow, maybe you could figure out how to help your brother. It took you a while to track her down, but you found her finally tucked away in a glass room in the library.
“Sybill,” you called out as you knocked on the door. “Can I talk to you?” She turned to face you with a sad smile, you didn’t have to guess how this conversation was going to go. There was a chair across from her that you took a seat at. Moonlight cast a shine over a teacup infront of her, and it made the tear streaks apparent down her face.
“What is going to happen?” Your voice was barely there. She reached out to take your hand as she recounted the event from almost a week ago.
Sybill had seen that Peter would betray the ones he loved, she could guess who it would be. So she ended things, it wasn’t easy, but begging wouldn’t have done anything. And maybe in doing so, something would change, so she spent weeks watching the tea leaves, never once had she drank so much tea in a day.
“Why would I do that?!” Peter yelled, the fact that the thought had even crossed Sybill’s mind angered him.
“The leaves Peter, hey don’t lie!” She was crying at this point.
“The leaves don’t mean anything, the fact that you are even suggesting I am capable of such a thing hurts me more than you actually saying it.” He simply scoffed at her tears.
They sat there in silence for a moment, well more like silence broken by the occasional sob Sybill couldn’t silence. As she reached out to take him he pulled his hand away quickly.
“If you think I’m a bad guy, what’s the point in being anything else?” He sounded less angry and more determined now.  “I loved you Sybill, I really did, and I thought you loved me too.”
“Peter! I do love-” She cut herself off as he stood up so quickly it pushed his seat back a few inches.
“LIAR!” he yelled before storming out of the observatory.
You began to sob, how could he do such a thing? Surely he wouldn’t hurt his friends, he wasn’t even one to kill a spider, even when he was afraid of them. She pulled your seat closer, the same one Peter had sat in all those days ago, and wrapped you in a hug and cried alongside you. What were you supposed to say? How do you tell the boys about this? Was this even real? As if sensing you rising questions Sybill began talking again.
“I have been watching the leaves, I have been listening to the wind and the stars, hoping that it could be wrong. But nothing is changing, just reiterations of what we know.”
Now you would have to confront him, to tell him you knew, but that there had to be some way to change it all, some way to stop it. There was no way. But for now, you would let Sybill hold you and you would hold her.
—
You were unsure of how to approach your brother with this new found information. You didn’t want him to think that you believed such things, because you didn’t quite believe it. But there was the problem of you being worried that it was true. How would you tell his friends? The thought of looks on their faces had you feeling sick. So you did the only thing you could think of… you avoided him and all his friends, you even pulled away from James, who was getting increasingly worried about both you and Peter.
He had, admittedly been distracted at one of the final quidditch practices and though he is the captain, he finds himself getting yelled at by the others until he ultimately cuts practice short by an hour. Surprisingly, he can’t find it in him to roll his eyes at the minimal cheering from the team. All he can focus on is getting changed and back to the castle to catch Peter before he leaves to study. And somehow he does. With dripping wet hair and his shirt slightly sticking to him, he opens the dorm door as Peter is opening it to leave.
“James!” Peter yelps and clutches his book bag a little tighter. James gently grabs Peter by his shoulder and steers him back into the room.
“Peter, I’ve missed you mate. We haven’t been able to catch each other, always doing other things. How’ve you been?”
“I’m actually busy right now, maybe later.” Peter deflects and tries to push past James.
“Come on, I feel like I never see you! I don’t know what’s going on with you.” James can see him flinch the slightest at the implication.
“Sorry James, not everyone has time for their friends, you’d know all about that.”
“Aye, what is that supposed to mean?” He sounds hurt but also defensive
“Not all of us can be a God as easily as others, we have to climb our way up!” Peter begins to get more upset.
“What are you going on about? I said I haven’t seen you in a while and I’m worried about your sister.” There was a sharp intake of breath from Peter at the mention of you. “She stays locked in her room, not eating, worse than you.” But that seems to snap him back into whatever anger he was holding.
“Worse than me?” whipping around to look James straight in the eyes, “Not all of us can be as perfect as you.” and then he is gone, the door slamming behind him.

The Phoenix Rises: Chapter 8
Pairings: Older!Remus Lupin x Fem!Professor!Reader
A continuation of the Charms of Fate series.
Series Masterlist
Tumblr media
Plot Summary: Starting your third year at Hogwarts as the Charms professor proves to be difficult without having Remus by your side as you face new and irritating challenges at work, as well as joining a secret society.
A/N: Sorry for dropping off the face of the Earth for a bit. I started college and it's been hectic! Anyway, enjoy!
Warnings: Angst
________________________________
The next month was a whirlwind of chaos. Juggling between teaching and attending Order meetings and stakeouts, exhaustion became a constant companion. Even though you managed to spend weekends with Remus, it felt like your time together was slipping through your fingers. The increasing presence of Tonks added an extra layer of tension, her subtle advances persisting despite having dialed down from when you first met her. Remus, ever oblivious, remained untouched by her advances, making it challenging to direct any frustration toward him.
Work at Hogwarts had transformed into a dreaded ordeal. The atmosphere, once vibrant and engaging, had deteriorated into a nightmare, thanks to Dolores's oppressive presence. Her intrusive supervision loomed over everyone, making each day feel like an uphill battle. A sigh of relief escaped your lips as the last class concluded. The prospect of stepping outside for some fresh air became a beacon of solace in an otherwise overwhelming routine.
Navigating the corridors, you could sense a commotion ahead. Curiosity propelled you forward, and as you reached the courtyard, a disconcerting scene unfolded. Dolores and Sybill Trelawney stood at the center, surrounded by a sea of students. Sybill, tear-streaked and distressed, stood next to her belongings scattered at her feet. Dolores's stern expression communicated a harsh reality.
You quickened your pace, furrowing your brows at the unsettling sight in the courtyard. Students huddled in groups, whispering urgently, while Dolores Umbridge stood tall, a disapproving figure next to the distraught Sybil Trelawney.
"What's going on?" you asked a passing student, who looked at you with wide eyes.
"Dolores is kicking out Professor Trelawney! It's crazy!" the student whispered, their voice filled with a mix of shock and excitement.
Your heart sank, and you approached the scene, catching snippets of the conversation. Dolores's high-pitched voice cut through the air as she spoke to Sybill, her tone condescending and dismissive.
"You can't do this," Sybil stuttered out, her voice watery.
Dolores held up a piece of paper, "Actually, I can.
"Sybil Trelawney, your so-called 'prophecies' and vague predictions have no place at Hogwarts. Your services are no longer required," Dolores declared, a cruel smirk playing on her lips.
Sybill, on the verge of tears, pleaded, "Please, Dolores, you can't do this. I have nowhere to go!"
Dolores responded with a cold laugh, "Perhaps you should have thought of that before filling these students' heads with nonsense. Hogwarts needs serious educators, not charlatans."
The surrounding students watched in silence, some in shock, others in anger. You felt a mix of emotions – sympathy for Sybil and an intense frustration towards Dolores's unwarranted cruelty. As the crowd murmured in discontent, you couldn't help but think about the injustice unraveling before you.
The tension in the courtyard escalated as Dolores continued to gloat, but relief washed over you as Professor McGonagall arrived, a stern expression on her face. She approached Sybill, offering a comforting hand on her shoulder. "Shh, shh, my dear," McGonagall said, her voice soothing.
As the two women held each other, Dolores couldn't resist taking a jab. "Minerva, is there something you'd like to say?" she sneered, a malicious glint in her eyes.
McGonagall turned to Dolores, her lips thinning with restraint. "There is a great deal I would like to say, Dolores, but I'll save it for a more appropriate time."
Just then, the grand doors to the castle swung open, and Dumbledore strode out, his usually calm demeanor marred by a visible anger. The atmosphere shifted as all eyes turned to the powerful wizard.
Dumbledore, with a stern expression, turned to Professor McGonagall. "Minerva, would you please escort Sybil back inside?" he requested.
Sybil, still teary-eyed and emotionally overwhelmed, reached out to Dumbledore as she walked past him with McGonagall. "Thank you, Professor Dumbledore, thank you," she repeated, gratitude pouring from her voice like a balm for the wounds inflicted by Dolores Umbridge's harsh actions.
Dolores, undeterred, addressed Dumbledore, "Dumbledore, may I remind you that under the terms of Educational Decree Number 23, as enacted by the minister--"
Dumbledore cut her off, his voice stern, "You have the right to dismiss my teachers. You do not, however, have the authority to banish them from the grounds. That power remains with the headmaster."
Dolores smirked, defiantly adding, "For now."
Dumbledore, not willing to engage further, turned away and addressed the students, his voice commanding, "Don't you all have studying to do?"
He walked away, leaving a trail of subdued murmurs in the courtyard. The weight lifted from your shoulders as you released a breath you hadn't known you were holding. The injustice seemed momentarily halted, but the lingering presence of Dolores Umbridge reminded everyone that darker times loomed over Hogwarts.
____________________________
The flames in the fireplace crackled as you sat on the couch in your living quarters, the trio of Harry, Hermione, and Ron joining you. The atmosphere was tense, and Hermione voiced her frustration, "That foul, evil, old gargoyle. We're not learning how to defend ourselves. We're not learning how to pass our OWLs. She's taking over the entire school."
The radio is playing in the background and you can faintly hear the Minister's grating voice speak softly through the speakers. "Security has been and will remain the Ministry's top priority. Furthermore, we have convincing evidence…that these disappearances are the work...of notorious mass murderer Sirius Black."
You rolled your eyes, calling Fudge every bad name in the book. Caught in a slight daze, you jump when you hear a voice coming from the fireplace.
"Harry."
You and the three young students look towards the fire, Sirius's face emerging from the ember and soot.
"Sirius," Harry said, kneeling down. "What are you doing here?"
"Answering your letter," Sirius replied. "You said you were worried about Umbridge. What's she doing? Training you to kill half-breeds?"
"She's not letting them use magic at all," you retort, rolling your eyes once again.
Sirius let out a snort. "Well, I'm not surprised. The latest intelligence is that Fudge doesn't want you trained in combat."
"Combat?" Ron wondered aloud. "What does he think, we're forming some sort of wizard army?""
"That's exactly what he thinks. That Dumbledore is assembling his own forces to take on the Ministry. He's becoming more paranoid by the minute. The others wouldn't want me telling you this, Harry…but things aren't going at all well with the Order. Fudge is blocking the truth at every turn and these disappearances are just how it started before. Voldemort is on the move."
The weight of Sirius's words hung in the air, and you couldn't help but feel a bit panicked. Between this toad-faced twat and no nose Nancy, on top of lesson plans, grading, the Order, it was almost...too much.
As the trio and Sirius discussed the dire situation, you interjected, "We can't let Umbridge control the narrative here. Hogwarts should be a place of learning, not a breeding ground for fear and prejudice. We need to be prepared for what is inevitable."
Hermione nodded in agreement, "You're right professor. We need to find a way to resist her influence and keep learning. Knowledge is our best defense."
Ron chimed in, "And what about Dumbledore? Why isn't he doing anything about it?"
You sighed, "Dumbledore's hands are tied. Fudge has the Ministry wrapped around his finger. We need to figure out a way to defend ourselves and the school without relying on the official channels."
"It won't be easy, but we can't let them win," Harry replied.
You nodded, "Agreed. We'll need to be strategic and find allies within the school. Strength in unity." Before you bid your goodbyes to Sirius, you couldn't help but ask about Remus.
Sirius hesitated before answering. "He's okay. Misses you like crazy. He's been going on more missions. Sometimes alone, sometimes with..."
"With..?"
Sirius sighed. "Tonks. Well, he doesn't invite her, she kind of just tags along. I'm not sure what her intentions are, but I make sure she knows he's in a happy, committed relationship." You groaned in annoyance, ignoring three curious sets of eyes on you. Sirius turns his attention back to everyone. "I'm sorry I can't be of more help. But for now, at least, it looks like you're on your own."
And just like that, he was gone. You threw your head back against the couch, sighing deeply. Great. Another thing I need to worry about. A girl who doesn't know when to take a hint.
You feel tears well up in your eyes. You try to blink them back, but one falls down your cheek regardless of how much your eyelids flutter. You feel someone take your hand and you're surprised to sees it's Ron. You use your free hand to wipe you're face.
"Godric," you half laugh, half sob, "I'm sorry, I don't know what's the matter with me."
"It's okay Professor," is all he said. The four of you sat in silence, comforting each other.
_____________________________
"Dumbledore's Army?" you asked rather loudly, munching on chocolate sent from Remus, hunched over your desk, grading your students' homework. Everyone was out for the day, either going to Hogsmeade or lounging in their respective common rooms.
"Shh!" The trio hissed, casting a glance over their shoulder to the slightly ajar classroom door. You stop mid-chew, looking up at them, an eyebrow raised.
"We've been thinking, with Umbridge tightening her grip on the school, we need to do something. Dumbledore can't openly oppose her, but we can."
Hermione leaned in, her eyes reflecting the intensity of her thoughts, "We want to start a secret group, a defense class. Dumbledore's Army, to teach students how to defend themselves."
Ron, ever pragmatic, added, "It's not just about us. The whole school needs it. Especially since Dumbledore is gone."
You listened attentively, a mixture of concern and determination etched on your face. "Starting a secret society is risky, but I understand why you'd want to," you replied quietly. "How can I help?"
Harry looked relieved at your support, "We need a place to meet. We can't risk Umbridge finding out."
Hermione nodded, "And we need someone trustworthy to help with organizing and logistics. Dumbledore's Army has to stay off Umbridge's radar."
You set your chocolate and red pen down, leaning back into your chair. You noticed Ron trying to take a peek at whose work you're grading, snickering when he sees it's Fred's a giant red P in the top right corner. You scowl at him, pushing your papers in a desk drawer.
"I'll tell you this bit now," you begin, "you can't use this classroom." Harry began to open his mouth in protest. You held up a finger. "But, there is a room that might be able to aid you. It adapts to our needs and provides a level of security that other places can't guarantee. The--"
"The Room of Requirement," Hermione interjects in a whisper, "Of course." You smile slightly at her.
"Great. So where is it?" Ron asked.
You shook your head. "I don't know. It moves around the castle and only appears for those who is in need and actively seeking it."
"Guess we better start looking. Thanks Professor," Harry said, the three leaving your room.
"Be careful!"
____________________________
The weekend had finally arrived, and with it, the anticipation of seeing Remus at 12 Grimmauld Place. As you opened the door to the building, a sense of excitement filled you. However, the atmosphere inside was tense, and Sirius, appearing in the hallway, attempted to divert your attention away from the dining room.
"Hey there! What's the rush?" Sirius grinned nervously, blocking your path.
You tried to smile back, but your eagerness to see Remus outweighed any interest in Sirius's playful banter and you were starting to grow irritated. "Where is Remus? Is he in the dining room?"
Sidestepping his attempts at distraction, you pushed him aside and walked into the dining room. Your heart sank as you saw Tonks practically in Remus's lap, both of them laughing. Suppressing your frustration, you loudly dropped your bag on the table, drawing their attention.
Sirius followed you into the room, a mischievous glint in his eyes. "Ah, I see you're back! Ready to join the fun, I see."
You shot him a look, silently asking him to drop the act, but he only raised an eyebrow in response.
Remus stood up, a radiant smile on his face. He was genuinely happy to see you. However, your excitement quickly turned to anger. "We need to talk," you gritted out. His smile faded, and he nodded, following you upstairs to his room.
Remus's expression turned concerned as he observed your demeanor. "Everything alright, love?" he asked softly.
You hesitated, feeling a surge of frustration mingling with hurt. "I'll explain in a moment," you replied tersely, not wanting to have the conversation in front of Tonks.
"What the bloody hell is that, Remus?" you demanded as soon as the door closed behind you. He looked genuinely confused, asking what you meant. "Tonks! What is going on with you and Tonks?"
Remus's brow furrowed in confusion. "Nothing, why do you think that?" he replied, genuinely puzzled.
"Because every time I see her, she's bloody all over you!" you retorted, your frustration boiling over. "I know we don't see each other as much as we used to," you continued, your voice tinged with a mixture of hurt and frustration. "Is it because she's younger, prettier?"
The words hung heavy in the air, each syllable laden with the weight of unspoken doubts and insecurities. Remus's expression flickered with a mix of surprise and hurt, his features contorted with a mixture of emotions.
"It's not about that," he started, his voice strained with the effort of trying to explain. "It's just…"
"Just what?" you interrupted, your tone edged with impatience. "Just that she's more convenient? That she's always around?"
Remus's gaze wavered, a flicker of remorse crossing his features. "It's not like that," he insisted, his voice tinged with regret.
"Then what is it like?" you demanded, your voice rising with frustration. "Because from where I'm standing, it looks like you're letting her take my place."
The hurt in your words was palpable, a tangible reminder of the distance that had grown between you. Remus's expression softened, a hint of understanding in his eyes.
"I never meant for you to feel replaced," he murmured, his voice barely above a whisper. "You mean everything to me."
The sincerity in his words tugged at your heartstrings, stirring a whirlwind of conflicting emotions within you. Despite the hurt and doubt, a part of you still longed to believe him.
"I want to believe you," you admitted, your voice barely audible. "But it's hard when I see her always by your side."
The admission hung heavy in the air, the unspoken tension between you threatening to suffocate any semblance of resolution. Remus's expression softened, his concern evident. "I'm telling you, Y/N, it's not what it seems, believe me. Tonks is just a good friend," he reassured you, reaching out to touch your arm.
But your frustration only intensified as you confronted Remus about his obliviousness to Tonks's advances.
"Remus, how can you not see it?"
Remus's brows furrowed, his expression shifting from confusion to defensiveness. "What are you talking about?" he retorted, his tone tinged with irritation.
"I just told you what I'm talking about!" you shot back, your frustration bubbling to the surface. "I'm tired of seeing Tonks all over you, and you doing nothing about it."
Remus's eyes narrowed, his jaw tensing with frustration. "You're being ridiculous," he snapped, his voice tinged with annoyance.
"Ridiculous?" you echoed, disbelief coloring your words.
"You're being insecure," Remus retorted, his words cutting through the tension in the room. His tone was sharper than you'd ever heard it, and it stung more than you cared to admit.
"Insecure?" The word hung in the air, heavy with hurt and disbelief. "Is that what you think?"
Remus's expression softened for a moment, but it was fleeting. "Look, I don't know what you want from me," he continued, frustration evident in his voice. "Tonks is just a friend. Nothing more."
"Is that supposed to make me feel better?" you shot back, your voice trembling with a mix of anger and sorrow. "Because it doesn't."
Remus sighed, running a hand through his hair in exasperation. "I can't keep having this conversation with you," he muttered, his eyes avoiding yours.
"Then maybe we shouldn't be having any conversation at all," you replied, the words bitter on your tongue. With that, you turned and left the room, the weight of disappointment heavy on your shoulders.
As you stormed down the stairs, tears streaming down your face, Sirius intercepted your path, his concerned voice breaking through your turmoil. "Hey, wait a minute. What happened?" he asked, reaching out to touch your arm.
You recoiled from his touch, shaking your head in frustration. "Not now, Sirius," you muttered, your voice thick with emotion. Pushing past him, you continued your descent, your heart heavy with the weight of betrayal.
At the foot of the stairs, your eyes locked with Tonks's, who sat there casually sipping a glass of water. The smugness in her gaze only fueled your anger further. Every fiber of your being wanted to lash out, to retaliate against the perceived betrayal.
Instead, you bit back your initial impulse, the urge to dump the water over her head subsiding. With a bitter edge to your tone, you muttered, "He's all yours," before turning on your heel and storming out, leaving the bitter taste of resentment lingering in the air.

“Go ahead, dear” Sybill said while you took your tea cup.
It was not strange for you to spend time with the woman, even if that meant dragging attention and judges to you. Almost everyone thought you were crazy just for being around her.
But you didn’t care. You always thought Sybill was amazing and, truth be told, you found her behaviour actually cute. You never got bored when you were with her.
Maybe her predictions were a little strange, but it was part of her charming and she loved having someone who would listen to her without judging. Someone who believed in her.
“Sybill, i can’t see anything” You said and sighed. It wasn’t the first time you tried to read the leaves, but you never understood.
“You just have to open your mind” she smiled at you “close your eyes and feel it”
You sighed and closed your eyes. You didn’t know what you were supposed to do or think, but your mind quickly decided for you. You thought about her eyes, her hair, her skin, her voice; about all those days laughing. You thought about how much she meant for you.
When you opened your eyes again, you saw her cute smile and felt what you never thought you would.
The tales about soulmates weren’t strange, everybody knew about them. Some believed in them, others, like yourself, thought they were a lie. But now, you felt that warm in your chest and a tickle in the palm of your hand. There was the mark that confirmed when someone found their soulmate.
You looked back at her and she chuckled. “I guess you didn’t need the leaves after all” she said, confirming she knew it all this time.

The Great Hall was anything but calm. All of the students had been ushered to the House tables and were listening to Professor McGonagall, who was giving orders left and right. She was explaining that all the students that weren't of age were going to be evacuated for their safety.
When McGonagall had finished speaking multiple students started asking questions. You didn't pay them any mind and instead noticed Harry wandering around the edges of the room. While you were watching Harry a cold and piercing voice seemed to be speaking from all directions.
"I know that you are preparing to fight. Your efforts are futile. You cannot fight me. I do not want to kill you. I have great respect for the teachers of Hogwarts. I do not want to spill magical blood," the voice boomed out, pausing for a second. At first many had screamed but now the Great Hall was silent. "Give me Harry Potter, and none shall be harmed. Give me Harry Potter, and I shall leave the school untouched. Give me Harry Potter, and you will be rewarded. You have until midnight."
The voice ceased. Everyone's gazes turned to Harry. He turned pale and unmoving. The only voice that spoke was Pansy Parkinson, who was seated at the Slytherin table, "There he is! He's right there! Take him!"
You never liked Pansy. She was always talking ill of others and draped herself across anyone willing to listen to her. You had no pleasant memories of Pansy from when you were a student at Hogwarts. "Bloody hell! Just shut it Pansy!" you yelled back. "We are not handing him over!"
She turned to you with a glare but sat back down as all the other tables stood up and pulled their wands towards her. It was a sight to behold. All the houses other than Slytherin had come to Harry's defense.
McGonagall smiled at you and the rest of the Hall and addressed Pansy, "Thank you Miss Parkinson. You and the rest of your house can do the honors of leaving first. Please follow Mr. Filch."
Remus, Kingsley, and the rest of the professors began to devise a plan of attack, dividing themselves up to different areas of the castle and grounds. Remus would be going to the grounds with students and you would be going with him. You were prepared to fight. You could feel Voldemort's defeat coming. You had confidence in everyone around you. Together, you would rid the world of the Dark Lord.
"Are you alright?" Remus asked from beside you.
"Yes. I'm just ready to fight. This has gone on for far too long. I'm ready for him to be gone."
"As I am. Y/N?"
"Yes?"
"I'm going to be with you the whole time. I won't let anything happen to you. I love you," he said. He leaned over and kissed your forehead, lips lingering for a while.
"I love you too Remus. I won't let anything happen to you either. I promise that we're both going to make it out of this."
"I admire your confidence, love."
After all the houses had been evacuated, a few Hufflepuff and Ravenclaws stayed behind, and half the Gryffindors. McGonagall had to pick out the underage Gryffindors that stayed behind and send them away. You had to hand it to them though, they were dedicated to the cause.
Kingsley rose to the front and began to speak, "We've got half an hour until midnight so we must act fast. A battle plan has been made between the Hogwarts teachers and the Order of the Phoenix. McGonagall, Flitwick, and Sprout are going to take fighters up to Ravenclaw, Astronomy, and Gryffindor towers for a good vantage point to do spells. Remus, Arthur, and I will be taking groups to the grounds. We need somebody to set up defense for the entrances of the passageways-"
"That's a job for us!" Fred said, indicating to himself and George. Of course the twins would want to do that. They knew every passageway like it was the back of their hands. When you were at Hogwarts you would sneak around with them and never get caught thanks to the secret passages.
Kingsley nodded and resumed talking, "Leaders up here and we'll divide troops!"
You followed Remus to stand next to Kingsley. The other professors lined up as well. You couldn't help but notice how determined everyone looked. Even Professor Flitwick looked menacing.
Kingsley began to divide the students, sending them to the different groups of adults. You noticed that Neville had been sent to Professor Sprout and Lee Jordan was sent with Fred and George.
Arthur, Kingsley, and Remus had a mixed group made up of mostly Gryffindors. You knew most of them and they acknowledged you as a leader as well, being two or three years their senior. One of the people in your group was Seamus Finnigan, who had been instructed to create explosions, which apparently he did often.
You and the rest of the group began to make your way through the castle, down to the grounds where Death Eaters were trying to get in. Students were following their group leaders throughout the castle as you walked by, getting into their positions. Remus was holding your hand as he led the group and walked briskly down the stairs. He had a determined stride and his eyebrows were furrowed.
Outside, the ground group began to split up, readying themselves for the incoming Death Eaters. Not only were there Death Eaters, there were gigantic spiders coming from the forest as well. You and the rest of the ground troops began to move forward, meeting Voldemort's followers in the middle. People on brooms swooped by overhead, and started to drop bombs on the groups of Death Eaters. You couldn't mistake the leader of the people on brooms, Oliver Wood.
Streaks of light began to pierce and color the air around you. Shouting came from all sides. You were shooting spell after spell at the incoming Death Eaters and spiders. Remus stayed by your side, also shooting out spells faster than you imagined possible. You stayed focused, watching your surroundings. The casualties had already started to rise on both sides. Bodies dropped and the Death Eaters began to converge onto the grounds. You and the others were trying your hardest to keep them at bay, but they wouldn't be held for much longer.
You kept sending out spells as fast as you could, hitting Death Eaters in any spot possible. Shouts of "Expelliarmus! Stupefy!" and "Avada Kedavra!" rang out in the night air. When you looked over you saw Remus dueling a Death Eater that you recognized, Dolohov. No Death Eaters were coming your way, most occupied with fighting others. Dolohov hadn't noticed you so you took the chance to shout out "Expelliarmus!" giving Remus the chance to stun him.
He nodded at you and breathed heavily, moving his eyesight to more incoming enemies. A man was headed straight for you, wand pointed at your chest. You lunged out of the way, the spell shattering a window behind you. Moving in on him, you yelled "Stupefy!" It missed him by inches, which he seemed to find amusing. He cackled and screamed "Avada Kedavra!"
You jumped out of the way just in time, the spell whizzing by your head. You got back to your feet, sending out another spell. That one hit him and he landed on the ground with a thud. As you ran towards the castle, where the Death Eaters were now getting inside, you whipped your head back and forth looking for Remus.
He was engaged in a tight battle. He overpowered his opponent and sent her flying into the wall. An explosion sounded somewhere to your left and rubble flew everywhere. Large pieces of cement fell on top of a few of Voldemort's followers and spiders. The remaining students took a breath, relieved from the hoard of Death Eaters that they were dueling.
The battle had mostly moved inside, Death Eaters working through the crowds of students and teachers alike. They were all a blur as you ran past, followed by Remus, who was panting.
You ran through the doors with him close at your side. Flitwick and Kingsley were already in the halls, each fighting furiously. Neville came into your line of sight, holding an armful of Venomous Tentacula.
You and Remus ran to the Great Hall, seeing a grey werewolf in your path. You had no doubt it was Fenrir Greyback and the sight infuriated you. He saw you and Remus at the same time you saw him. Picking between the two of you he lunged at Remus, sending him to the floor.
It was so sudden you didn't know it had happened. He was on top of Remus, rearing his head back to bite him when he was hit by a spell. His animal form went flying into the wall. He was getting back to his feet when you rushed at him screaming "AVADA KEDAVRA!" You were so filled with rage you felt no remorse seeing his limp, grey, werewolf body. After all, he deserved it for all he had done. He had killed and harmed many people, including your parents.
Overhead you heard Professor Trelawney shout, "Well done! That bastard deserved it!" She hurried away, holding crystal balls in her arms. She threw them with incredible force and then used her wand to direct them through the windows.
You ran over to Remus, who hadn't moved from the floor. You fell to your knees beside him. He didn't move when you shook him. Tears began to fill your eyes, "Remus? Remus! Remus wake up! WAKE UP!"

Hey could I request a Hogwarts teacher matchup? I’m 5 foot, but I’m really adventurous and love getting into a bit of trouble, I adore all animals including bugs, and I’ve a very big nerd, I love reading, writing, drawing, learning all sorts of new things and making new friends, though I can be really nervous at times and I don’t like stepping out my comfort zone much. I will however do whatever it takes to defend others
hope you enjoy this!!! (i wasnt sure if you’re straight, bi, or gay so i hope u arent offended! lmk if u want another one)
-
i ship you with,,,,,
Sybill Trelawney!!!
Tumblr media
Sybill is actually pretty tall and thin, definitely taller than you at 5’8. At first, she feels awkward about being that much taller than you but deals with it nontheless. She hopes you dont find her height “weird” or anything!
While she worries quite a bit as she’s a seer, Sybill wouldn’t mind trying to be a bit adventurous and trying new things. She sees herself being interested in bugs and other animals. Getting in trouble may not be her favorite thing so be prepared to hear her to try to foresee the future of your choices.
Sybill is definitely a big nerd as well; she may be self conscious about her glasses sometimes but she likes the way they look on her. She loves reading, whether that be herbs or actual books. Sybill would definitely love watching you draw, the movement of your hands mesmerizing her.
Getting a job at Hogwarts was difficult for Sybill, and meeting new coworkers/friends was a part of the job. She appreciates her friends tremendously but meeting them was somewhat a struggle. Sybill would help you (and herself) to make new friends and calm your nerves.
She isn’t one to step out of her comfort zone that much either so the both of you are very similar. Sybill will definitely use her seer “powers” to try to steer you away from doing certain things.
You’re no doubt super important to Sybill - and she knows that she’ll stand up for you and your friends. She understands what it means to love somebody and care for friends so if you need to stand up to someone, she will too.

IMPERIUM✨
Pairing: Draco Malfoy x Any house Reader, Harry Potter x
Wordcount: 4,210
Warnings: SMUT, ANGST dom ,sub, daddy ,oral, teasing ,praise, spitting , chocking etc run of the mill smut.
A/N : Well the time has come I've finally given in.. I say finally didn't take much conviction lol. Anyway in this universe Dumbledore is still very much alive and no-one tried to kill one another so all is well. As always enjoy and let me know what you think xx
Summary: Draco and y/n battle it out for the new position as headmaster but what happens when they are made to work alongside one another
Tumblr media
“Ladies and gentlemen, if I may have your attention please” spoke Dumbledore. He arose from his chair gently tapping his knife against his chalice in order to garner the crowds attention . Shortly everyones eyes were fixated on him. He cleared his throat and began. “I would like to thank each and everyone one of you for coming out tonight … as we all know its been a tough decision for me to step down, however! .I have no fear as I know the school will be in the safest of hands. I hand picked these two myself and in-fact trust them with my life. I know they have been working tirelessly day in and out to ensure not only my trust .. but all members of committee and most importantly our students. So with that being said when it is revealed in tomorrows assembly who the new headmaster and deputy are I want you both to know ,no matter the outcome I am so proud of you both, so let us raise a toast to our candidates . Y/N Y/M/N Y/L/N and Draco Lucius Malfoy”. With that Dumbledore rose his chalice high in the air smiling warmly at the pair. Everybody followed suit and raised their glasses high in celebration.
Draco and Y/N graciously thanked everyone as they showered them with words of praise and encouragement . Just then Y/n went to speak however her words were abruptly cut short by Astoria. As if an eager child unable to contain her excitement she blurted out. “ Draco and I are so grateful for all the support, so as a thank you after this we will be having refreshments and canapés at the Malfoy manor to celebrate his new position as headmaster .. all are welcome to join”. ‘Headmaster .. oh my how incredibly presumptuous” Y/N chuckled into her drink. “Excuse me” squeaked Astoria, she spun around rapidly locking eyes with Y/n. Y/n folded her arms across her chest and began “I do believe you heard me Astoria .. you said headmaster and thats yet to be revealed so for you to address Draco as said headmaster is well.. presumptuous”. Astorias tongue prodded the inside of her cheek, you could tell by the hue of red in her face she was infuriated but trying to find the words without imploding.
“Well , I just know he will ok so yeah just know that”, spat Astoria in a feeble attempt to shake off Y/ns rightful observation’. ‘Oh I see” snapped y/n “why didn't you say it was you sooner, Sybil , Sybil Trelawney teacher of divination . What are you doing here under the guise of Polyjuice potion? I mean you could’ve just come with your crystal ball and tea leaves and said he was the winner that way instead of this elaborate scheme don’t you think?” The laughter of fellow by standers suddenly erupted around the women. Astoria who now sup parsed hues of red was the shade of a beetroot , completely enraged prepared to snap she was interrupted by Dumbledore. “ NOW now girls quell your fiery natures, this is to be a peaceful night of celebrations”. The woman smiled coyly at Dumbledore. ‘My apologies Dumbledore” y/n chimed up. “We speak no more of it ok” Dumbledore smiled and gently patted the crown of y/ns head and proceeded to make his way back to his chair. Y/N turned and smiled gloatingly at Astoria. In response Astoria screwed her face up mockingly and fled no doubt to chastise Draco for not swooping in and defending her.
“Pwoarh Nice one mate” chuckled Fred as he held out his fist waiting for Y/n to bump it. Hahah stop it you she giggled. ‘Here , should we go to the manor after this for a laugh” sniggered George appearing alongside them. “Ha, I'm sure she’s revoked my invitation effective immediately” said Y/n, as she peered over to Astoria , she could see her flailing her arms around whilst Draco made no attempt to conceal his look of boredom in the conversation. “You know what lets .. Ive been dying to get a peek of the manor anyway what harm can it do”. ‘Cracking’ the twins harmonised in unison. The trio linked arms and jollied along.
Once arrived at the manor they soon found it to be every bit luxurious as they envisioned. The floors were marble and reflected the light of the enormous crystal chandeliers suspended from the ceiling. Each stair of the grand staircase was illuminated by candle light creating an auburn strip propelling up the length of the stairs. Every inch of the manor oozed with decadence. “Wow , its rather impressive” mused y/n . “You can say that again” chimed Fred as he helped himself to a glass of champagne , handing one over to y/n. They began to mingle and drink with the rest of the party guests it was an overall pleasant evening that was until Astoria appeared before Y/n. “Glad to see you could make it y/n” said Astoria with a constipated smile. She had made little to no effort to conceal her sarcastic tone.
Y/n had no interest in rehashing todays mini confrontation. Instead she pulled a sickly sweet smile and said “ Wouldn’t miss it for the world, thank you for your generous hospitality Ms Green grass.” Astorias face dropped “green green .. she muttered, haha don’t be silly you must get use to calling me Mrs Malfoy”. Now despite y/ns fondness to antagonise Astoria at any given opportunity she couldn’t help but see she was visibly hurt. She immediately began to fumble her words in a bid to preserve her feelings “honestly , Astoria I'm sorry I didn't know the extent of your relationship .. I apologise”. Astoria still hadn’t reacted she stood stationary bottom lip protruding sad and helpless like a lost puppy. Y/n gently squeezed Astorias forearm and began to say “ look you mustn't pay it any mind, Draco wouldn’t dare indulge in any small talk with me about family life .. so don’t stress it congratulations by the way”. Astoria looked up at her with eyes softened . Relief washed over Y/n as she could tell she was receptive to her. Y/n couldn’t help but wonder to herself why he hadn’t mentioned news as big as that , they had worked so closely over these months . To be fair on a good day if you hadn’t known Draco you wouldn’t even know he had a girlfriend let alone fiancé .. or wife ?
Astoria went to talk but just then none other than Draco emerged behind her . His hand came down onto her shoulder. sharply. “ thats enough now sweetheart , I think Daphne was looking for you actually”. There was a weird exchange of eye contact Astoria weakly smiled and left. It was now just y/n and Draco stood before one another. Draco broke the silence by clearing his throat “ Y/L/N, may I interest you in a nightcap in my office ,there are things Id appreciate to discuss before we venture into our new working relationship”. Although slightly bewildered she agreed as after all they were to work alongside one another and she’d rather it be somewhat harmonious than turbulent.
Y/n followed Draco across the length of the great hall and into a pair of grand double doors. The room was vast , books littered the walls as far as the eye could see and in the corner a fireplace roared. Draco stood behind his desk and motioned for y/n to take a seat opposite him. She smoothed the back of her dress and proceeded to make herself comfortable. Draco started pouring whiskey from the crystal decanter into a couple of whiskey tumblers. The burn of the fire whisky ignited as it glided down her throat. The combination of whiskey and champagne left Y/N beginning to feel somewhat merry, she hadn’t really noticed during the quiet sobering conversation with Astoria. ‘So what is it you have in mind Draco?”. His stormy grey eyes peered over at her from behind his glass. ‘Very well” he remarked and manoeuvred himself to Y/NS side of the desk .He perched himself on the edge legs akimbo and both his large veiny hands clasped around his whiskey glass. Y/n inhaled sharply as she averted her gaze from his legs splayed before her. Continuing he said “ As you're aware I have my plans about how Hogwarts should be run , I have a detailed strategy and I plan to implement it as soon as possible .. so what I'm really asking is are you with me or against me because I have no intention of being held back”.
Y/n blinked rapidly .. she was unable to process what he was saying , how could he be so smug thinking he had headmaster place secured already. “ Fuck sake Draco, ok first that wasn’t really posed as an option now was it ?, also enough with belief that its your divine right to just be appointed as headmaster! What makes you think that if you somehow are the headmaster I will just bend at your will? Pathetic!” She scoffed into her drink. Draco began to stifle a laugh “ Ah you do amuse me y/n”, look I'm willing to let you have some creative control … only if you prove to me how badly you so desire it”. His suggestive smile sent shivers up y/n. “Fuck you Malfoy” she hissed and jolted from her seat, once she reached the door she rattled the doorknob but to no avail the door wouldn’t budge. “Open it now” she demanded . Draco slowly sauntered towards her and leant across the door “hmm I thought you liked a challenge .. guess I was wrong this will be no fun after all ” Draco was indeed correct Y/n did enjoy a challenge and he’d be gravely mistaken if he thought she would let him get away without putting up a fight”.
Something switched in Y/n she turned to face Draco who was only inches away. He towered over her with his svelte frame encased in an all black suit. ‘Is this what you want Draco hmm” she said in a sultry tone whilst hooking her finger into his belt loop pulling him closer. You want me to beg ..or would you rather me on my knees .. better yet I could be a good girl and just bend over that desk right now and let you have your way if thats what you want” . Draco's breathing was now laboured within seconds he had pulled y/n in by the waist flipped her round having her pressed against the door, his body weight up against her and his hand holding her arms in place on the door. Y/n could feel the stiffness of his impressive length against her derrière. With a shallow gasp he breathed dangerously close to her ear “ be careful what you wish for ms Y/L/N , I don’t take too kindly to false promises as I always get what I want” . With that he tossed her around to face him .Y/n was now panting her body was burning in desire she wanted nothing more than to drop to her knees there and then. No wonder Astoria was attached to his hip.. if this was anything to go off.
Y/n bit her lip she felt dizzy with emotions . Draco stood before her with a devious smile , his hands soon intertwining at her waist and face buried in her décolleté littering it with kisses making his way down to her ample bosom. Y/n couldn’t help but throw her head back in delight eliciting a small moan. That only became fuel for Draco as he hoisted her leg from the floor and wrapped it around him. It was then Y/n felt a vibration from the opposite side of the door., as if someone had knocked from the outside . It was then followed by a mousy ‘ Dray , are you in there’. Draco paused for a moment grip still tight on y/n. “What is it I'm having a business meeting , i'll be out shortly don’t hover ”. It was clear who it was… the pair unraveled themselves from one another quickly smoothing out clothing and rejigging themselves. ‘Ok let us” let me stop you Draco, Y/n interrupted pressing her finger against his lips to audibly shush him. “ As if you think id let this happen you think you get to fuck me then you do as you please and I a dutiful little lap dog . Pfffft what a joke like it or not I'm going to be your boss so the only way I'm fucking you is in the more figurative sense , now you better hurry up don’t want to keep your fiancé waiting or Is it wife hmmm”. With a quick flick from her wand she sent the door swinging open and promptly stormed out.
The day had finally arrived the great hall of Hogwarts was alive with the buzz of chatter. The sizeable table at the forefront of the hall hosted all the teachers and most importantly both Draco and y/n. Dumbledore made his way to the podium, he produced his wand and placed it at the base of his neck it acted as a megaphone propelling his voice across the hall. “Everybody if I may have your attention please.” The chatter soon died down and everyone eagerly cast their eyes on him. “ Right, I shan’t keep you in suspense anymore , it is time to announce your new headmaster & deputy ’. Both Draco and y/n fidgeted in their seats after all these months of rivalry it had boiled down to this. “ Ladies and gentlemen, introducing Ms y/n y/l/n your new headmaster !” Boomed Dumbledore. .Y/N shrieked she was giddy with excitement she couldn’t believe she had actually done it. Everyone around her broke out into wild applause there were whistles and jeers laughter overall excitement. She was being ushered by the surrounding teachers to get up to the podium to make a speech. As she was making her way she cast eyes on Draco, there he stood paler than usual and unresponsive he was there physically but not mentally his carcass stood stationary unable to ingest the news he had just been fed.
The days rolled into weeks weeks rolled into months and y/n had almost completed a whole term at Hogwarts. All was going swimmingly and albeit begrudgingly Draco was in-fact a great support on her journey. It was the last night of term and y/n sat a her desk pondering over a mountain of papers. Y/n sighed and cradled her head in her hands , she was exhausted she spent all her time dedicated to the role that she forgot to take time out for herself. There was a knock at the door “Come in” she yelled out. Draco's head emerged around the door. ‘
Oh hey you , come in come in” ushering him to the desk. ‘Oh dear , sucks to be you , regretting the position of power now?” Draco chuckled menacingly. “Ha ha very funny” she uttered dryly. “Anyway , some of the other teachers are going out for drinks but I can see you are busy” said Draco eyeballing the mountains of paper. “Yeah.. I afraid I am , but you enjoy yourself Draco have a drink for me and i'll see you next term” she smiled warmly at him. Draco locked eyes on her , hands stuffed in his pocket he began to fidget. “In all honesty I'm not the fondest of all the people going .. also Id much rather not be at home ..before you laugh or probe why just don’t because I won’t go into it but I can’t bare to spend another moment longer with …her .. so umm yeah , I can help you out here then say you make it up to me buying me a drink later?”
Y/n smirked “You’re quite then enigma aren’t you Draco ..? He raised his eyebrows at her in acknowledgement. “Fine , id appreciate that very much but I am rather tired so if it's not beneath you I can offer you a drink at mine ..”. His eyes flickered up to meet hers , stifling a smile . “Id like that ..”he said softly , ‘well then , let's get to work” y/n smiled. Draco and y/n worked through the night it was filled with chatter and laughter they felt at ease with one another. Once they finished up the momentum continued on at y/ns house. Copious amounts of fire whiskey later they found themselves delving into deeper topics having more in-depth conversations and discovering more about one another. Draco's whole demeanour was very relaxed and this was foreign to y/n. His shirt sleeves were rolled up and tie loosened. ‘You know .. you're an alright person not that much of a pain in my arse surprisingly” Draco chuckled swigging another mouthful of whiskey. “Well thats rich” laughed y/n.
“Right well I've really enjoyed this but its getting late , I can barley keep my eyes open … earlier you mentioned you didn't want to go back so .. you're more than welcome to stay …. Only if you want”. Rattled by the kind gesture he smiled affectionately. Stumbling over his words “umm yeah , thank you y/n you’ve exceeded your generosity let me at least grab us coffee for the morning then. “Sounds like a plan , hopefully you won’t find me a pain in the arse again come morning ”. With a cackle Y/n got up from the couch and showed Draco to the spare room. Once at the door she began to wish him a goodnight. As he went to hug y/n his lips grazed her cheek. Y/n suddenly recoiled , a silence loomed over them as they gazed at one another the emotions of that night in Draco's office flooding back. Y/n could feel the heat surging in her cheeks so she hastily wished him a good night and scurried to her room. Once in the shelter of her room she let out a sigh of relief. She knew it was the right thing to do but my how she craved him.
Draco burst through the door making a beeline for Y/N. He took her into his arms and kissed her with an insatiable hunger. Backing her into the wall he began to rid her of her clothing . Y/n hands clambered at his chest to do same however he abruptly stopped her “ Oh no you don’t , you think I forgot about that little stint in my office huh ? Well I didn't and I've been awaiting the day I get to fuck you senseless Ms y/n … you control me all day and now its y turn to control you .. you will do everything I say do you understand” . Enthralled by his dominance Y/n nodded enthusiastically. “Sorry I didn't hear you “ roared Draco grabbing her face towards his. “Yes who”. “Yes Draco” she moaned . “You can do better than that dear yes who, i'll only ask you one more time or i'll have bent over my knee.. so what will it be?” . “Yes … daddy “ she muttered bashfully. “Thats my girl” he bellowed. He grabbed her and thrust her onto the bed , he unfastened his tie and instructed her to lift her hands above her head. Y/n did as commanded. He bound her wrists up and hooped them over the bed post. “Now, I'm going to have my way with you and you don’t get to touch me understood!” ‘Yes daddy y/n whimpered” “ahh what a good girl you are, ugh the things I'm going to do to you”. Y/ns eyes winded in desire, Draco shimmied y/ns shirt up and instructed her to bite down using it as a makeshift gag. He suddenly began to kiss her lower abdomen slowly sliding off her trousers.
Y/n titled her hips aiding him in taking them off. Draco's eyes lit up upon the discovery of her not wearing any undergarments “oh so you were anticipating me you filthy slut” Draco chuckled darkly’. He teased and taunted kissing her inner thighs only grazing her sex, this drove y/n crazy her body craved him inside her. Draco finally delicately licked a strip against her folds causing her body to crumble at the slightest of his touch. His warm moist tongue began frantically massaging her causing her to rive in ecstasy . His tongue began to vibrate excitedly against her clitoris sending shock waves through her entire body , she bucked her hips in excitement unable to keep her composure as Draco's tongue fixated on lapping up the one spot that drove her insane. Y/n was close he was relentless with his tongue against her swollen bud , just as she was about to finish Draco withdrew. Y/ns face fell in disgust just as she was about complain he plunged his fingers deep inside her ..pumping rhythmically y/ns juices coated his fingers . His other hand sloped around her neck , eventually this caused her to release all over his hand. Draco's pupils now engulfed his eyes …he was enthralled in pleasure watching her crumble for him . “ Aren’t you a good girl , snarled Draco “squirting for daddy , whilst I love it I don’t recall giving you permission to” .y/n squirmed overcome with pleasure unable to respond.
He unhooked her and brought her to her knees. He ripped her shirt from her mouth and produced his veiny throbbing cock dripping with pre cum. Y/n gasped in astonishment and eagerly attempted to take him all in her mouth bobbing her head enthusiastically until her jaw ached and eyes began to stream. He hurled his head back in pleasure as her tongue gently caressed his pulsating tip. “Ugh yeah just like that baby “ he muttered .
Without warning y/n sucked on the tip with vigour. Draco let out a ferocious moan whilst grabbing y/ns hair fashioning it into a ponytail attempting to make her glide her tongue down the rest of his shaft. He couldn’t have her do that for too long as he surely would finish in her mouth. “You filthy filthy girl “ he beamed as he pulled her off his cock . Rocking her head back spiting in her mouth. He brought yn to her feet and began kissing her deeply interlocking his tongue with hers , she yearned so badly to touch him to feel her skin against his. “ Get over here , I want you leant over this bed frame whilst I fuck you .. I'm going to cum on that pretty pussy then I'm going to put it back in understand!” Firmly instructed Draco . “Yes daddy” that’s my girl he cooed. Draco teasingly stroked his member against her entrance this sent shock waves through y/n causing her to gyrate in hopes he would slip in. Draco caught onto this and his hand came down harshly on her derrière .y/n let out a gasp. “Don’t be greedy now” he laughed tightening his makeshift restraints on her wrists. Relentless with his teasing it was a shock to y/n when Draco abruptly pushed into her. Y/n was in euphoria as was Draco as the warmth of her walls swaddled his manhood.
Draco slammed into y/n her body rattling with pleasure, just then Draco felt himself out to release .. so true to his word he instructed y/n to lay on her back so he could empty his contents onto her. He threw his head back in jubilation upon release. As he went to enter her again this time her was slower much more gentle taking y/n into his arms. “How do you want me to finish you off baby?,like this or I could use my fingers?” Y/n shuddered remembering the bliss she was in from his lengthy fingers so it would be a no brainer to opt for them “Fingers please daddy” she uttered softly.
He untangled himself from her stood up and offered his hand . Taking her across the room he sat down in-front of the floor length mirror instructing y/n to sit in between his legs. “If its fingers you was then its fingers you’ll get but your gonna have to watch me”. His large hand sloped up her neck tenderly chocking her whilst his other massaged at her slit . Y/n was still dripping from earlier so it was light work for him to imbed his fingers into her. Y/n couldn’t take it the combination of Draco's fierce unwavering gaze in the mirror and the sheer bliss she felt with her legs quaking she soon released decorating the mirror in-front her. “Ugh your amazing baby” he beamed kissing her forehead gracefully. “Here let's get you cleaned up and we can cuddle in bed”. “Oh my … I didn't peg you as a cuddling type Draco” y/n laughed gingerly attempting to get up her legs still trembling beneath her. “Shut up you” he scolded “when will you learn there’s a lot you still don’t know about me y/n”.

PART 1
When you arrived in Professor’s Trelawney tower to prepare your lesson for the day you didn’t expect her to be all over you introducing herself as Sybill and gushing about how she was excited to work with you and how it was an honor. You waved her off with a smile before you got a feeling, it was like your heart was being pulled out of your chest and you grabbed at your chest with only one thought in your mind, Moody.
You ushered Trelawney an apology and called that you would be back but with that, you rushed to where you remember Trelawney had shown you where the Defense against the Dark arts classroom was and sprinted as fast as you could before you slammed open the door.
“Professor Moody, that iz quite enough! What in the great heavens do you think you are doing? I can hear your class telling you to stop from down the hall and performing Unforgivable curses in front of children?! This iz extremely inappropriate!”
Your Cry caused the students who were crying for him to stop and Moody himself to be startled and stop the Cruciatus curse, before storming over to Moody and slapping him across the face. He jerked and placed the Spider down as you walked over to the student who he forced to watch the curse, he seemed obviously uncomfortable at the curse, looking Almost downright paralyzed you placed a hand on his shoulder, and the other on his arm, you whispered to him “Are you alright Monsieur?” He shook his head No and you sighed.
You began to lead the boy out of the door before turning to Moody and sneering at him, “You should be Ashamed, I have NEVER seen such a disgusting teaching method, expect to hear from me again, next time I see this display I will personally inform Dumbledore, Are. We. Clear?”
He cleared his throat and nodded at you before turning to A bushy brown-haired girl who was also obviously uncomfortable, You turned away from him and continued to help the boy out of the classroom before leading him into an Empty Hallway, he looked sickly and as if he was about to throw up or pass out at any second, staring blankly into the wall, You reached out and rubbed his arm.
“Monsieur? Are you okay? It was disgusting what he did in there and I am completely sorry, are you doing okay? Do you need to sit? Here let me help you..”
You helped lower him to the ground and sat beside him smoothing out your robes, you didn't say anything for a good few seconds before sighing and turning to him.
“I know it might be hard but please talk to me, are you okay? Do I need to take you to the Medic?”
He shook his head no again, “You know, my parents were tortured with the Cruciatus Curse, Moody knew that too.” You released a deep sigh before shaking your head in disbelief.
It was quiet for another pregnant pause before you whispered to him, “You know I was hit with a Cruciatus Curse once, it's why I can't hear too well in my Right Ear and can't see too well, one of the many reasons I wear this Veil.” “Really?” “Mhm, Teenagers can be Cruel, they didn't get much trouble for it either..” “Oh…” “Oh Indeed Monsieur..., what exactly your name I never quite got it, sir?”
“Ah, it's Neville, Neville Longbottom.” “Well, Monsieur Longbottom are you feeling any better?” “Just a little bit, not by much..” “Well Monsieur, you are free to join me in my Classroom until you feel better and You are always welcome to come in at any time if you feel like you need to do so, especially in Moody’s Class, now come on I'll brew you some Warm Tea.”
When the Fourth Years came in Professor Trelawney´s correction- Sybill and your classroom for their Divination lesson they certainly did not expect to see you sitting on a cushion on the floor with Sybill and Neville by your sides, you sat with your veil covering your face as you poured Neville and Sybill tea and shook your head and laughed.
“Can't be a hidden Seer and have an unknown identity if I lift my one concealing item for some Tea Now can I dears”
This caused Neville to blush before getting up and getting ready start to walk to his desk but you called out and he handed you his teacup before leaning over and watched as you swirled the cup and nodded, ¨Very promising Monsieur Longbottom, Very Promising Indeed, see that? Mhm, Indeed a Butterfly, Success, and Happiness are coming in your near Future.¨
Sybill stood up and smiled at you before turning to the class ¨Good Evening everyone, Let's take a Seat Please, Now today is a very special day! Thanks to the Triwizard tournament we are having a very special guest coming to visit us from France, This is the Head Seer at Beauxbaton and A relevant Figure in the Divination field, who was one of the best accuracy rates for Seers in Europe, This Is Professor Delphi¨
You nodded your head at her before walking over and standing at the front of the class, ¨Bonjour! My Name is Professor Delphi or Delphi, I have been a Seer for as long as I've been able to walk and Have been a practicing Seer since just about your age, Today I will be giving you all free readings however I will warn you all before my word is true and clear however if you choose to acknowledge fate and fix your mistakes you may be able to change it. Now, Any Questions?¨
Multiple hands shot up and you looked around the room before nodding at the Bushy Brown haired girl who you saw in Moody´s Class earlier in the day
¨Speak up for me Madame! Thank you, Now please say your name and your question?¨¨Hermione Granger Professor, How exactly are you ´Head Seer´?” ¨Wonderful Question Madam Granger! I am head seer as I have the most accurate Sight in my district let alone France and most of Europe, in my 24 years of living, and 13 of Being a known Seer I have gotten Two Predictions wrong, two out of thousands.¨
She seemed to be distrustful but nodded along anyway ¨Next Question?¨ More hands shot up this time, You called on a Brown haired boy and he responded with a thick Irish accent.
¨Name Monsieur?” ¨Seamus Finnigan Professor, Why exactly do you have a veil? Covering on?¨ You nodded and placed your hands down on the table for support, leaning down and feeling for a chair to sit in as the boy beside him knocked into, sighing ¨Seamus! That's rude!.¨ ¨Amazing Question Monsieur Finnigan do not be afraid to ask the hard questions!¨
You paused ¨However I wear this for multiple reasons, One to hide my identity being a professional seer can be hard and sometimes dangerous, Some people refuse to accept the fate and turn their anger towards me, some have threatened to hurt my family so this helps protect my identity and my family´s as well, even the name Delphi is a cover-up name Monsieur!¨”
Which got a few curious and surprised looks from the students, you looked around the room soaking it in before allowing yourself to continue. ¨Two, I use it to hide identifying features especially with my condition, A special someone in this class found out why today but for those who don't know I am Hard of seeing in my Right eye and almost completely deaf in my left ear.¨
You paused again before clearing your throat and swiping at your eye under the veil as you feel them begin to gloss up with potential tears, ¨it was due to an attack on me during my youth and while it did help me develop my higher senses it made me extremely vulnerable Physically, That is why I do not do big trips like this however I am here to teach the youth and inspire you all to look into the divination field so it is worth it.¨
Sybill patted your arm and asked quietly if you needed a break, you shook your head before turning back to the class ¨Any more questions before we continue?¨ A few students shook their heads no, hands sinking after the big questions were asked you nodded, ¨alright Madames, Monsieurs and all others let us begin! You all have a Teacup in front of you, I want ALL of you to drink your tea and come sit with me one at a time when you are finished if you wish, I assure all of you we have a lot to talk about.¨
You nodded at all of them, wishing them all good luck before sliding fully into the chair and feeling around for the teacup that you had left to your right, you heard someone sit to your right as they pushed the teacup in front of you.
You turned and saw A Blonde girl with fluffy wavy hair smiling at you. You returned the smile under your veil and took the teacup in your hands before sliding it up under your veil to inspect it.
¨Good Evening Professor, My Name is Lavender Brown! Divination is my favorite class. I've believed in it after Professor Trelawney predicted my poor rabbit´s death and predicted Neville would break a cup and it came true!¨
You smiled at her before giving a little chuckle ¨I'm glad dear so let's inspect this together, hmm oh yes that's interesting, you are going to be in love in the near future¨ This excited the Girl before you cut her off ¨However dear, do not force the love, let it come naturally or you will taint it and sweet child be safe, you will face danger in the future, never walk alone am I clear Madame?”
She nodded before turning to you and hugging you tightly, ¨Thank you professor¨ You returned the Hug and whispered ¨I believe in you child, let your heart soar freely but be smart!” she giggled at this and ran back to her friends that began to gossip to one another.
The Next student made you smile before he even sat down you could recognize that red hair anywhere ¨Monsieur Weasley, it is a great pleasure.¨ He sent you a look before you chuckled and ushered him to sit down ¨I knew your older brother Monsieur, you could say we were close when he attended here.¨ With a smile, remembering how Handsome Bill looked the last time you saw him.
¨You knew Charlie?” You smiled before shaking your head ¨Next one dear, but let's focus on you Monsieur Weasley let see this cup of yours.¨ You picked up the Cup and swirled it ¨Oh yes, hmm indeed, I sense self-doubt, You doubt you are worthy as those around you but oh how wrong you are. I see great things for you Monsieur Weasley, oh work in the Ministry it seems, oh how loyal you always return to your family hm?¨
Ron frowned at the mention of the ministry and smiled when you praised him for his loyalty especially to family, you extended your hand to him, ¨You may love your friends and they might be ´special´ but never doubt your worth Monsieur, I sense greatness in your presence doesn't let me be wrong due to jealousy.¨ With that, you placed your hand down and bowed your head to him ¨Do not forget my words Monsieur¨
You hear someone run over before whimpering out a sigh, looking up its Neville ¨Monsieur Longbottom, what do I owe the pleasure, hmm? Now let's see this.¨ The tea swirled before it cleared, ¨Oh how marvelous, Monsieur Longbottom you sure are meant to be a Gryffindor! You have an amazing spirit and loyalty, you have confidence under all that shyness, you must let go of your worries, I see greatness and passion in your future, A leader, hmm a teacher? We will see!¨
He stuttered and pointed to himself ¨Professor? Me? But I'm not brave!” ”Oh False indeed! You just haven't unleashed it yet, you are more than a house title anyways my boy, you are a son, a friend, a student, someone who brings light into anyone's life, you make your parents proud my boy, be you!¨ You wrapped his hand in your own and bowed to him ¨My word is truth, fate has foreseen your greatness my boy don't forget that. Be brave.¨
You didn't have to look up to tell who had shuffled up to your desk, you could tell by the voice having heard the same voice talk to Ron and call said voice harry.
¨Monsieur Potter, what do I owe the pleasure hm? From what I've heard you do not believe in my craft and often lie for a good grade hm?¨ He stiffened at the jab you made before you smiled.
¨Sit sit Monsieur I know how hard Seer classes can be for non-seers, this is no easy class Monsieur however you are special in other ways and it shows, you have a great burden on your shoulders, Fate will be cruel to you but you have great friends and a family, hmm protect those around you good sir, and Monsieur tell your godfather to find me for me, the oracle needs him, Oui?”
He seems shocked at the final statement but you merely smiled to yourself and bowed your head to him which he stiffly returns before hurrying over to Ron and Hermione, ah they are friends you remark to yourself and smile at the trio as they began muttering to each other quietly as soon as he returned, Oh how fun this trip will be.

my future | gazing upon a crystal ball | part i
Tumblr media
pairing: james potter x reader
warnings: LOTS of angst sorry, some fluff, idk if i forgot anythings
***
There are three things you should know about me.
Number one: somehow veritaserum does not work on me. It’s the strangest thing I’ve ever encountered. No matter how much of the truth-spilling potion passed my lips, my secrets never budged. It was as if I was drinking water, without the tart, metallic taste.
Number two: my talent of divination was unrivalled at Hogwarts. Once again, it was unclear how I possessed this power, especially since I was muggleborn, but somehow, I was one of the best Seers in over a decade at Hogwarts, praised courtesy of Professor Trelawney.
And number three: I was hopelessly in love with the man that I could call my boyfriend, James Fleamont Potter. He was the definition of charm and chivalry; he was who I wished to call my everything.
As I laid down in his arms in the Gryffindor common room, I watched the fire crackle, the quiet sound of James’ soft breathing floating through my ears. His hand was traipsing up and down my back mindlessly, tracing figure eights onto my delicate skin. I felt calm. I felt content.
There were two days left of our seventh year at Hogwarts. Tomorrow was supposed to be spent cleaning up our dorms and soaking in the last moments of the Hogwarts atmosphere, but all I wanted to do was stay inside all day with James.
He hoped to join the Order of the Phoenix, a secret organisation that worked to bring down Death Eaters and Voldemort himself, after Hogwarts. I wanted to join just as bad as James did, but he said no. It was the only thing we fought about. Continuously, he argued about the dangers of joining together, but I always held my ground. We were to do this together.
“What are you thinking about, love?” I heard James say from above me, placing a gentle kiss on my cheek as I smiled.
“You. Me. Our future.” I shrugged, rubbing the palms of my hands up and down James’ arms, trying to ground myself.
“I like that sound of that,” James nuzzled his head into the book of my neck, inhaling my scent. “Our future. You and me. Forever.”
“I’ll always be your forever and ever, Jamesie. I love you to the moon and back.” The words came out as a hushed whisper, but James clung on to them desperately, pressing innocent kisses just under my jaw.
“You won’t be able to get rid of me.” James cracked a joke, running his fingers across my waist, lightly tickling me as he went. “I’m not going anywhere.”
“I wouldn’t want you to.” I replied, leaning upwards to place a delicate kiss on his lips. Raising my hands up to his face, I cupped his cheeks, deepening the kiss in a flurry of passion, that was soon interrupted.
A rustling sound came through the portrait of the Gryffindor common room, piquing the interest of us too. We broke apart from each other at first, before slowly melting back together. It was late at night, many of the other students having already gone to bed. Subconsciously, I grabbed onto James’ hand, letting the pads of his thumbs gently rake over my knuckles as if to soothe me.
Professor McGonagall strutted into the common room, a distressed look on her face. With furrowed eyebrows, she scanned the surroundings before her eyes landed on me.
“Y/N, can you please come with me? Professor Dumbledore wishes to see you.” McGonagall spoke softly, reaching her hand out towards me.
“Oooh, you’re in trouble.” James laughed, pressing a gentle kiss to my temple. I chucked along until I saw the somber expression plastered on McGonagall’s face, shutting my mouth instantly.
“Of course, Professor. I’ll come immediately.” Before leaving, I turned quickly, placing one lady peck on James’ nose, hurrying out of the common room, towing behind McGonagall.
She didn’t say much and walked briskly, a stark contrast to her normal attitude. It was quiet, none of us striking conversation, so we walked together in uncomfortable silence until we reached the griffin statue that guarded Dumbledore’s office.
“Sherbet lemon.” Professor McGonagall stated, her booming voice commanding the griffin to let safe passage through. When the griffin had moved, McGonagall said nothing, but ushered me upwards until I reached the doorway.
“Miss L/N, please come in.” Professor Dumbledore beckoned me in through his great door. I always tensed up at his looming office. Everything seemed so much taller than me. Too many eyes could look at me and judge me from the portraits around the room. I lingered in the doorway, uncertain about obeying Dumbledore’s command.
“Please.” He persisted, his hand outstretched towards me, as if to hold my own and walk in with me. I kept my hands to myself, slightly uncomfortable with his twinkling eyes, staring at me from out the top of his moon shaped glasses.
Nodding my head, I finally walked in, the smell of fresh air hitting my face. I took a deep breath, once again shaken from the look Dumbledore was giving me. My abilities of reading people’s faces and expressions stopped with Dumbledore, who always wore a monotonous look on his face, almost disapproving and disappointed.
Gazing around the room, I took in the noticeable differences from earlier in the year. A few trinkets had been put away as well as some suitcases in the corner of the room, looking ready to be packed. It just hit me that Dumbledore would be leaving and going home. I often forgot that Dumbledore had a home away from Hogwarts. Other things looked different, as well as a few portraits missing from the wall and the curtains drawn, something that was definitely unusual for Dumbledore; he liked as much moonlight as possible.
Something wasn’t right.
What really intrigued me was the crystal ball sitting neatly on Dumbledore’s desk in the middle of the room. I was always quite good at Divination as it was my best subject. Professor Trelawney had always taken quite a liking for me and took me under my wing after third year. I remembered our first lesson we ever had with her and the way her eyes widened as she looked at me. After that lesson, she kept me after class, explaining how she had seen me in her own crystal ball, and how my future of Divination would be bright.
She was correct. I had excelled in every one of my exams; I had the Outstandings to prove it. As a muggleborn, I was always curious about how I had gotten my powers of a Seer, but I never pondered it as much as I should’ve. Once again, I was clueless as I looked at the crystal ball on Dumbledore’s desk. Something told me he wanted me to take a look.
“Professor Trelawney has seen some shocking news in this ball and would like for you to take a look.” Right to the point. Dumbledore was not one for cutting corners. Sheepishly, I nodded, walking slowly up to his desk, before his outstretched hand stopped me in my path.
“Be warned. If what Sybil said was true, it might shake you a bit.” Incredulously, I stayed silent, my eyes flickering from Dumbledore’s worried irises and the swirling mist forming in the crystal on the desk.
“Okay, sir.” My voice came out as a croak as I made my way over to the desk. Nervously, I pressed my hands against the cold ball, the feeling of electricity pulsing through my veins from the smallest brush. I jolted in surprise; the future was strong. Closing my eyes, I took a deep breath, before opening them slowly, taking in the black wisps of the future before me.
Peering closer, I saw something that made me smile. It was James, the biggest grin on his face, his eyes looking down into his arms. Wrapped in a blanket, James was holding a small boy, hair as dark as James, eyes green like the forest behind us. The only thing I could think was pure happiness, thoughts swirling in my mind.
Was it my child too?
My questions were soon answered as a woman came up behind James, smearing an endearing kiss to James’ cheek. Her fiery red hair and enchanting green eyes were unmissable. That wasn’t me. That was Lily Evans.
I could feel my heart breaking in my chest as I watched James press a soft, delicate kiss on Lily’s cupid’s bow, the smile shared between them, the look in their eyes so obvious. They were in love.
Quickly, the scene changed, instantly taking a darker turn. It was in a forest, the forbidden forest to be exact, where Lord Voldemort stood, Elder Wand in hand, a horrendous grin pressed to his face. His pungent red eyes were alive and vicious, shooting daggers at the figure in front of him.
It was merely a boy, no older than I was, yet he looked so much like James. I knew instantaneously that this was James’ child all grown up. I couldn’t hear what was being said but their wands clashed together, a stream of red and green meeting between them. In a flash, Voldemort sank to the ground. Dead.
Gasping for air as if I had been drowning, my hands pulled away from the crystal ball. My breath was shallow, which turned into hyperventilation, letting me fall to the ground, tears ebbing at my vision. I couldn’t comprehend anything that was going on anymore. I let the tears run down my cheeks as I felt a presence sink down beside me, meeting me on the floor next to me.
“Miss L/N, are you okay?” I couldn’t believe that that old fool had the audacity to ask such a question. With tears still falling from my bloodshot eyes, I looked up at him, cocking my eyebrows, almost mockingly. Obviously I wasn’t okay as my hands shook and tears fell, but I managed to mutter out an answer, just to please Dumbledore.
“No.” The one syllable answer hurt to say. Unconsciously, I let my head fall to my side, resting on Dumbledore’s shoulder. I wished for none of his comfort, yet I knew I needed it. As we sat in silence, I let all my tears pour out as Dumbledore rubbed my arm soothingly, not interrupting the silent aura we had created, until my sobs had died down.
“I’m sorry miss, but I must ask you,” here we go, “what did you see in the crystal ball?”
“It was James, but it wasn’t me by his side. It was Lily. Lily “Perfect” Evans. And they had a child, a beautiful baby boy. The love of my life has a child with someone else. He loves someone else. Their child was the one to defeat Voldemort, to end everyone’s suffering. Not our child, their child.” I managed to explain as Dumbledore nodded, obviously having heard the same story from Trelawney, but much less emotionally.
There was a stillness that laid between us. Sobbing silently, Dumbledore waited patiently for me to finish letting out everything I needed to. For a normally emotionless person, Dumbledore was actually good company as I wallowed away in my pity.
“What do I do?” I managed to croak out after a while, my throat breathy and sore from my crying. A sigh escaped Dumbledore’s lips, not a promising sign for my racing headache. Everything seemed to be falling to pieces beneath my grasp and even trying to comprehend what this would all mean for James and I’s relationship was impossible.
“What do you think you have to do?” Dumbledore asked me. It was a foolish question, something that I hadn’t expected from such a wise man like Dumbledore. I scowled at him, contorting my sad frown into a sneer.
“I have to break up with him.” I sighed, playing with my fingers in my lap. “But then what? Sit around watching James and Lily slowly fall in love. It’s too painful. I couldn’t do it.”
“There is another option for you.” I was intrigued. “I have gotten permission from a pureblood witch from Beauxbatons to let us use her name. She is currently working for the Order in Japan, standing in as a teacher at Mahoutokoro, watching out for any dark magic. She’s working under a fake name, so no one knows anything about who she really is. I know you wish to work for the Order, so I have a mission for you, if you choose to accept. You would pose as a waitress and performer at a popular Death Eater bar in Scotland. You will stay there for as long as possible, gaining their trust and learning what you can, under the name of Colette Heroux, a runaway Beauxbatons blood supremacist. It’s almost perfect that you would do it as if they use veritaserum on you, you can lie. You wouldn’t have to be around anyone else from the Order and you would have weekly meetings with just me. No one will know what you are doing. No one can know what you are doing.”
My throat hitched at the proposition. It was perfect. I could leave and let James and Lily’s destiny play out, without having to rip my heart out in two. At the same time, I couldn’t leave. I would have to leave behind all my friends, Remus, Sirius, Peter….
It was the only thing I could do though.
“Fine. I’ll do it.” I muttered quietly. “When do I leave?”
“Tonight.” My eyes widened in shock. I would miss graduation. Dumbledore seemed to know what was on my mind and answered accordingly. “You will still graduate. I’m sorry, but we must leave as soon as possible. You may go back to your room and collect your stuff.”
I didn’t reply. In a hurried fashion, I rushed away from Dumbledore and back through the doors, not stopping to acknowledge Professor McGonagall who was standing there wide eyed and in shock.
As I burst into the common room, I tried to avoid James, but I couldn’t. He immediately walked over to me, noticing the way the tears fell down my cheeks, cupping my face delicately and enveloping my torso in a hug. It was too painful.
Pushing away, I couldn’t even keep eye contact with him. I stared at the ground, trying to get as far away from James as possible.
“Darling, what’s wrong?” James reached out to me once again but I flinched away, bringing my arms up to brush him off, watching his heart break with every rejection through his eyes.
“Please don’t call me darling, it’ll make this harder than it already is.” I muttered. James tried to say something  but I kept speaking, not wanting to be influenced by whatever James had to say. “I have to break up with you.”
“You have to?” James asked incredulously, his voice a meer whisper from surprise. Quickly, I readjusted my words.
“I want to break up.” I tried again, my voice failing to carry out the sentence. I still couldn’t look at James but I knew he was starting to cry from the choking noises coming from his throat.
“No you don’t. No, that’s not true-”
“It is. We shouldn’t be together. I’m no good for you.”
“I love you. I’m in love with you.”
“I’m in love with no one.” Anger was boiling up in my blood but I wasn’t sure where from. All I knew was I had to get out of this situation. “I’m in love with no one, but myself.”
“You said that you would always be my forever and ever. I said you couldn’t get rid of me.” James was matching my anger as well, stepping towards me red in the face. “That was barely an hour ago. What changed?”
“Everything.” I said, turning away from him. I was done with this conversation. Everything was hurting inside me and all I wanted to do was cry. I knew I had to pack my things though, so I rushed to the staircase for the girl’s dormitories. Before I could reach the steps, I was met by a confused looking Lily, who seemed to have watched the whole thing unfold.
“Look after him for me Lily, would you?” She nodded, unsure of what I meant. Looking back, I saw James still looking at me in awe. He needed closure. I could give that to him.
“I’ll see you in a couple years.”

Tasseography Pt. 1
Draco Malfoy x Reader
Summary: Divinations class had given you a fortune, which you heavily believed in until news struck you. Would you still believe that your fortune was still out there or would you completely give it all up?
Word Count: 3.4K
Tagging: @the--queen-of-hell
A/N: I can’t believe it ! It was supposed to be a one shot but it turned out to be a 3 chapter kind of thing. I hope you enjoy this, though. This is something different so please don’t copy it! Draco isn’t here yet but please do read this chapter. Positive comments would be nice!

Divination class was a class that everyone had mixed feelings about. There were people such as Hermione Granger who did not believe in this class. She felt that it was a useless class, especially when the use of books was not really needed. The base of the subject revolved around predictions and making assumptions rather than referring academically from books and scrolls.
Sybill Trelawney was a peculiar person who taught a peculiar class. Dumbledore used to teach Divinations but had stopped, feeling that this class was not of use in the Wizarding world, as he thought everything about the class was a fraud. But when Sybill came into the picture, she somehow managed Dumbledore to give her the role of teaching Divination. So since the 1970s, she has been the professor of such an uncommon class.
If there were people like Hermione who did not like the class, there were people like Lavender Brown, Parvati Patil, and you, who took such interest in the class, believing every word that came out from the mouth of Sybill Trelawney.
Your belief in Divinations class all started during third year. When Harry had received a wolf-shaped symbol in his cup, there was great fear in the eyes of your professor. Seeing her fear and real and believing, there was something to believe and look out for. Besides, the symbol belonged to Harry Potter, the boy who unfortunately was someone trouble loved looking for. The events that happened at the end of third year proved that Divination class was worth believing in.
Two years later, you were one of the many people still taking Divination class as an elective for your fifth Hogwarts year. You took this class out of interest while the others such as Seamus and Dean only did it as they wanted to bluff their way into getting a good OWL score for the whole year. They thought that they could pretend and fake an accusation with their so-called fortune telling skills, trying to have Professor Trelawney believe in their fancy words. Nevertheless, you gave them a ‘good luck’ pat back when school had first started for the school year.
Now sliding to the present time which was the last day of classes before winter break started, Professor Trelawney had something in store for her students that day. With Divination class being the last period for most students that day, Trelawney had enthusiastically welcomed her impatient students who wanted to end the day and leave for the holidays.
Sybill Trelawney had started waving to her incoming students, happily pointing towards empty seats and tables for them to occupy. “Welcome, welcome all!” she greeted, “Come along quickly and have a seat!”
Today was terribly a slow day for you because you were one of the last students to enter the classroom. When you arrived, you scanned around to see that most seats were occupied by other students. Most of the students around you weren’t close with you so it would have been hard to bargain and trade places with them.
The nearest vacant seat was Lavender Brown’s table. Since she was one of the few people that you felt had the right sense of mind for this class, you didn’t complain as you made your way to her table, casually exchanging hellos and small talk. Lavender had told you that Trelawney seemed happier than usual, indicating that there was something worth looking out for during class.
When class finally commenced, your professor had magically distributed teacups to every student in the classroom, having it filled with tea right after everyone had a teacup. There were surprised looks from students as they had most likely assumed that they were going to have a relaxing class for the day.
Seamus seemed the most curious at the moment as he suddenly raised his arm up into the air, waving it to get the attention of Trelawney. She had quickly gained notice of her student raising his arm in the air that she pointed at him, nodding in signal for him to speak.
“Professor,” he spoke, “Are we having a tea party this afternoon?” There was a funny grin in his face as the rest of the class started giggling in response to his question as they started agreeing with his question.
It might have been funny for the rest of the class but you scoffed at yourself as you had an idea of what was going to happen during this class. Right before Seamus had attempted to make everyone laugh, you had read off one of the divination books despite it being useless for the sake of the class. There were so many things in the book that had teacups involved, so you were just making bets and assumptions of what was planned out for the day.
Professor Trelawney shook her head slowly, slightly laughing as she turned back to her table, which had her teacup for her grab a hold of and show to the rest of the class. She raised it with passionateness, looking at it with such energy. “That wouldn’t be the main focus of our discussion today, Mr. Finnigan, but we will be drinking the tea,” she replied, “Would anyone like to guess what we will be doing today?” she looked left and right, looking for anyone who wanted to answer her question.
There were many topics in the book you were casually reading from. Many topics had the use of teacups since it was something used frequently for predicting the future. But there were strange drawings, or rather symbols, on your teacup that had sounded similar to the last chapter you were reading from.
There was no harm in taking a guess so you carelessly raised your hand, gaining the attention of Professor Trelawney who had looked happy to see a volunteer to answer her question. “Give it a go, Ms. Y/L/N!”
“Um, would it be the practice of tasseography, professor?” you slowly placed your arm down as you heard your own voice. It sounded a little hesitant in your tone despite wanting to answer, knowing that was no harm in trying to answer.
If Trelawney’s face was already happily bright to have you answer her question, it only became brighter when you had answered her question correctly. She clenched her fists as she joyfully jumped and smiled with her teeth, “Absolutely correct! Ten points to your house!”
You nodded in approval, contented to be winning points for your house, which you did not see coming. Lavender Brown turned to look at you with a proud expression as she mouthed, “Nice one”, which made you chuckle. You showed her the page in your book that had a detailed history of tasseography, making her seem more impressed in you than usual.
“Tasseography,” she continued, “Also known as reading coffee or reading tea leaves, is a divination practice dating back thousands of years. Over this time, many symbols and interpretations have been built up.”
Seamus started taking a sip from his teacup out of curiosity, and raised his hand again, “It tastes like normal tea, professor.”
“That’s because it is normal tea, Mr. Finnigan. Since he is already in a headstart, why don’t we all start drinking from our cups, we will have our results momentarily.” Trelawney said, looking at Seamus with a ‘Did I tell you to drink from the cup already?’ look, then started sipping from her cup, which made her less tense, forgetting already about Seamus’ lack of discipline.
Lavender and you started drinking from your teacups, exchanging few words. She had told you that she was so excited to see what kind of fortune she would have by the end of the class. You agreed, telling her that all you needed was luck, since you felt this holiday was going to be splendid.
Your parents planned for the family a whole holiday vacation to Paris, a country that only your parents have been to before. They were more than happy to show you the places they have been to and explore new sites with you. This was something you were looking forward to since you barely had any time with them outside school. This was because they were one of the best aurors in their department, always grabbing jobs that needed them daily.
When everyone was finished with their tea, they started taking a look at the symbols that had appeared on the bottom of their teacups, asking their seatmates to figure out what the symbol looked like. You had no idea what yours was. It looked so strange, there were different shapes that didn’t look like anything you could think of.
Hoping you weren’t the only one with a difficult symbol to understand, you peered over to Lavender’s as she looked ecstatic with her symbol. She smiled, pointing at her symbol in a circular rotation, “It’s a boat!” she exclaimed.
This attracted Professor Trelawney who rushed to your table with an excited look. She held Lavender’s cup and with an instant, she beamed the same happiness as Lavender’s. “You are absolutely right, Ms. Brown! A boat signifies a visit from a friend! Would you happen to be meeting a friend during the holidays?”
Lavender nodded, looking surprised as if she felt like her professor was reading her mind. “Yes, professor! A friend and her family will be visiting mine over the holidays!” then she looked over to you with a smile, “What did you get, Y/N?”
You looked back down at your cup shyly, not knowing what your symbol was and its meaning. “Um,” you spoke, “I haven’t figured mine out. It seems tricky.”
“Let me take a look, Ms. Y/L/N!” Trelawney assisted you, transferring her hands from the cup of Lavender’s to yours. She took a longer time analyzing it, looking at it from different angles of the cup. “Ah, yes, tricky for a beginner like you.” she said, “This is the symbol of an angel.”
“An angel?”
“Yes, my dear! You see, the angel’s symbol can differ. It can be just the wing, the head, or both at once! From your cup, you’ve gotten both!”
“Oh,” you nodded, “Well, what does the symbol mean?”
“Good news and-”
“Oh, yes! I do have good news!” you interrupted her with joy, “My family and I are going abroad for the holidays! It’s something I’ve been looking forward to!”
“That’s definitely great news, Y/N!” Lavender added.
Professor Trelawney was about to add something to the meaning of your symbol but was stopped to see when students started standing up from their seats, packing up as the last class of the day and of the year had ended. She shook her head, knowing it was probably not important to add to the meaning of the symbol as she brought her wand back up, raising it to collect the teacups back from the soon-to-be empty tables.
“That’s all for this year, everyone!” she said, “Have a great holiday to you all!” as she waved goodbye, you stood up from your table and walked out of the classroom with Lavender.
“I do hope you enjoy your holidays, Y/N. Paris seems exciting!” Lavender said as the two of you were walking down the stairs to the connected corridors.
“I’m most likely going to enjoy the holidays, I don’t doubt the tasseography lesson we had today. But I wish the same to you too, but with your friend and her family. Write to me okay?” you asked of her, waving goodbye as you started going on your separate paths.
While she was probably going to the Great Hall, you were making your way to the common room. You friends were most likely going to be there as they were late packers when it came to holidays. You were already packed but you wanted to mail one last letter to your parents while you were in school as you were planning to tell them how excited you are to see them.
When you arrived at the common room, you were greeted by your prefect Y/P/N who was trollying her luggage towards the door of the common room. “There was an owl by your window, Y/N. I saved the letter and placed it on your desk. Have a great holiday!”
“Thank you, and you too Y/P/N.” you warmly thanked them.
You guessed that the letter that had arrived came from your parents, telling you how exicted they were to see you later that day. They probably read your mind earlier and somehow managed to send out a letter, knowing exactly what you were thinking about.
So you jogged to your dorm, throwing your sling bag onto the bed where your luggage had been resting on. You looked over to your desk, viewing the wax stamp that marked the first name of your surname which had the same color as your Hogwarts house.
Opening the letter, you were greeted with something that was not good news.
Our dearest daughter Y/N,
We hope you had a nice last day of classes. You truly deserve a break from all the academic work you have gone through. Surely a nice holiday would do, yes? We know you’ve been waiting for that Paris trip. We’ve been as well but it pains us to bring you some news.
The Ministry had just contacted us this morning, briefing us of an urgent mission. We have been assigned a team of Aurors to lead us to our case, which is located out of England. This is something we couldn’t get out of considering that the department recognizes us as one of the top Aurors they have.
We are terribly sorry from the bottom of our hearts to cancel something that we have all been looking forward to. We assure you, we will make it up to you during the summer after this current school year for you.
Should you wish to still come back home for the holiday’s, (your elf’s name) will be most happy to welcome you back home with the open arms we have been meaning to give you ourselves. But should you wish to stay at Hogwarts, you are most welcome to, just inform (your elf’s name) to take the holiday’s off, expecting no one to come home.
Once we land in our located case, we will be sure to give you the grandest Christmas gift sent straight away to wherever you wish to stay.
Please do not despise us for this, dear. You know we would never mean to hurt you like this. We hope to see you real soon. Owl us, alright?
With love,
Mum and Dad.
There was a great deal of both anger and disappointment running in your veins. It wasn’t directed at your parents. It was at the Ministry for taking away your parents once again, especially during this time of the year when you can get to see them from Hogwarts. Then it was also at the fortune you were given from Divinations class. It was supposed to come true, right? If Lavender’s fortune had come true, why not yours? This was all so weird.
You crumpled the letter, throwing it down the trash bin next to your desk. You placed all your weight on your desk, holding the ends of the desk with such anger as you shook your head, trying to process the bad news that had been delivered to you.
There was a knock from your door, causing you to stand up straight and say, “Come in.” Opening the door from the other side of the room was your roommate Y/F/N, who showed herself with a happy face, not knowing that you weren’t feeling the same as her.
“Hey, Y/N,” she spoke, entering the room, “The train’s leaving in twenty minutes, wanna look for the rest and grab seats already?” She seemed really happy but you didn’t want to ruin her happiness. But what could you do?
You walked towards her, placing a hand on your forehead as you were about to give her the news. “There’s been a change of plans, Y/F/N. Apparently mum and dad have been called away for business, cancelling the Paris plans.” you said, sighing.
Y/F/N gave a small frown and puppy eyes as she walked towards you, opening for a hug. You hugged her back tightly as she rubbed your back saying, “I’m sorry to hear that, Y/N. You were looking forward to that and you don’t deserve this.”
“It’s alright, they said they were going to make it up to me during the summer, but that’s months away from now.” you said, pulling away from her.
Her eyes widened in panic, realizing something. “Wait!” she yelped, “Where will you be staying for the holidays? I would love to bring you home with me but my family’s bringing me to my mum’s side of the family which is quite far from home, and (your 2nd friend’s name)’s parents are going through things in their household.” she said, frowning again.
“It’s either here or at home, but I was thinking of staying here. As much as I love (your elf’s name), there’s a tad bit more liveliness here. I’m sure there are people staying here for the holidays.”
“I heard this year’s gonna be less crowdier than usual for the holidays, but I’m sure you won’t be the ONLY one here. Don’t worry.”
Great. Lesser people this year, but nonetheless still people around.
“True.” you said, looking away. “You should probably go and let the others know that I’ll be staying.”
“Alright, Y/N” she said, “I’ll owl you every week, I promise.”
“Happy holidays, Y/F/N.”
You gave each other another big hug as she wished you the same. Then she left, running off to the train to meet up with the rest of your friends. That left you, with your packed luggage that you would be sadly unpacking.
As you unpacking, you were thinking about the possibilities of how you were going to spend your holidays at Hogwarts. This was the first time you spent your holidays at school. There may have been times where your parents couldn’t come home due to work but you weren’t as disappointed as you were right now that you actually still had the motivation to go home still. This year was a different case. You were in need of some love and comfort and your parents were one of the few people who could give you that.
Now that they couldn’t give you that this year, you decided to stay at Hogwarts, declining the offer to go back home, the place that reminded you of them. It would be depressing to be in the place you always saw them in. Home without them wouldn’t be considered home anymore.
When you were done packing, you stood up, walking over to your desk to write your house elf a letter.
Dearest (your elf’s name),
I hope you’ve been doing well without me. I have been informed of the change of situation concerning my parents and they have given me two offers concerning where I’ll be staying over during the holiday’s.
I want to let you know that I have decided to stay at Hogwarts. Kindly tell my parents the same, I don’t have the emotions right now to inform them right now. I really do hope you enjoy this year without either of us with you.
For that, I would like you to spend the holidays with whomever you wish to be with during this lovely time of the year. You deserve it anyways. I can’t wait to see you, mum, and dad when the school year ends.
Happy holidays!
Y/N Y/L/N
With that, you sealed the envelope, gave it to your owl who you were smoothly petting before it flew, travelling all the way to your home.
To kill time, waiting for your owl with a possible response from your elf, you decided to make yourself comfy by dressing out of your school uniform and into a cozy jumper and jogging pants. You looked at yourself in the mirror, looking at the jumper your parents had given you last Christmas when you were with them at home. You hugged yourself, pretending that you were hugged by either of your parents.
“Good luck huh.” you muttered to yourself, thinking about divinations class earlier.

As the light outside the open window rises into the soul-sapping grey of predawn, Lucius lets the algorithm push him to a video of what is possibly the most ridiculous woman he's ever seen.
The camera frames her from the waist up, sitting at a table overlaid with a batik cloth. Another cloth hangs behind her, dyed in widening, concentric circles of shaded rainbow hues. She wears colossal glasses with translucent purple frames, and her hair—a mass of dry strawberry blonde curls tinseled with grey—is wrapped around with a bright length of fabric. She’s wearing a handknit cardigan and a linen dress as shapely as a paper grocery bag. Behind the thick lenses of her glasses, her eyes are the color of a glass fishing float and outlandishly large.
Drumming the pads of her fingers against an oversized deck of cards in front of her, she leans toward a microphone mounted on the table to her left.
“Welcome . . .”
She speaks in a level, quiet voice with a lot of breath and what seems like an extraordinary amount of mouth moisture.
She leans into a second microphone mounted to her right.
“To Divine Whispers . . .”
The hair on the back of Lucius’ neck rises.
“A . . .”
His scalp tingles.
“S. . .”
Christ, his eyelids are sore.
“M. . .”
They fucking hurt.
“R.”
He lets them fall closed.
“I’m Sybill.”

Imagine standing up to Umbridge when she tries to fire Trelawney.
Tumblr media
"You can’t fire her," you shouted, having overheard the conversation. You’d always liked Trelawney and you wouldn’t see her removed from Hogwarts, especially without good reason, and Umbridge had no reason whatsoever to fire her.
You came between Umbridge and Trelawney, standing your ground against her. "Something you’d like to say, dear? Because I could just have you expelled if you find it so necessary to defy me," Umbridge threatened.
"That’s quite enough," McGonagall intervened. "I appreciate you standing up for what you believe in, but it’s nothing to get yourself in trouble over. Now, go back to your classes," she instructed. You gave a nod and turned to leave.
"T-thank you," Trelawney called after you. You turned around and gave her a smile over your shoulder and she waved. You’d done what you could. You only hoped McGonagall would be able to help more.

Serving detention as Madam Pomfrey’s assistant wasn’t nearly as bad as completing it with Filch. Little to no students arrived in the infirmary after school (people usually came to skip class) and whoever did was there because of a few scratches or bruises.
That’s why Y/N’s immediate reaction to seeing the Boy Who Lived gush blood from his head was to let out a little shriek. “Merlin’s beard what happened to you!?” She guided him to a cot and gently laid him down, making sure not to agitate the crack in his skull. “Well, you know... things happen sometimes,” Harry said sheepishly with an embarrassed grin. “I didn’t exactly plan for this to happen!” he said after seeing the exasperated look on Y/N’s face.  “I know that! I just meant, what in the hell did you get yourself into? Hold this to the cut please, thank you.” Y/N said, handing a sterile cloth to the boy. Harry went on to explain the situation, “..in other words, Snape almost caught me, and I panicked.” “You’re something else, Harry Potter.” “I’m going to take that as a compliment”. They both shared a laugh before awkward silence took over.
“It looks like the bleeding has stopped, I’ll just wrap a bandage and you can go,” Y/N explained. “Is it okay if I come closer? I want to make sure it gets on well.” “Of course!” Harry replied, a little too quickly to be considered normal. He could feel his face burning and ducked down so his face was hidden.  “Well you seem eager,” she said with a teasing grin. “I’ll try to do this gently so it doesn’t hurt. Let me know if I’m pressing too hard please.” Y/N then proceeded to carefully twist and twirl the white cloth around his head, pausing only when soft cries sounded out. “Alright, how does it feel?” Y/N asked. “Brilliant thank you,” Harry replied, “I’m going to head back now, would you like for me to walk you?” “No, I need to be here for detention” she replied with a shy smile on her face. Harry looked like he wanted to say something, a distant look adorned on his face. He ultimately decided against it. They said their goodbyes, both secretly hoping to see the other soon.

Y/N was rushing through the halls. There was news of a professor getting laid off and of all houses wanted to watch the drama unfold. As she turned the corner, a boy came rushing her way that she recognized as Harry. “Y/N, what’s going on?” “It’s Professor Trelawney”, she replied with a grimace.
They continued to follow the other students and eventually ended up in the courtyard. The atmosphere is filled with grave silence before sobs ring out into the air.  There, Y/N and Harry find Trelawney stumbling and quietly sniffling with cases surrounding her. Filch then walks up to the woman and throws the last chest at her feet. A door slams and Umbridge in all of her pink pompous glory comes strutting out. “Si-sixteen years I have lived and taught here! Hogwarts is my home!” Trelawney says with a desperate tone. “You can’t do this!” Professor Umbridge holds up a wrapped piece of parchment, “Actually, I can!” she says with a sinister and delighted smile. The female professor’s sobs fill the silence and Professor McGonagall rushes out from the crowd. She hugs her colleague, doing her best to comfort the other. When Dolores Umbridge sees this, she (with her sickly sweet smile) asks, “Is there anything you would like to say dear?” McGonagall, glowing with rage replies, “Oh, there are several things I would like to say!” A door opposite the trio of teachers opens with a loud and low “clang”. Albus Dumbledore emerges, nearly trembling with anger “Professor McGonagall, might I ask you to escort Sybil back inside!?” “Sybil, dear, this way.” Trelawney, overcome with relief, goes to passionately thank the headmaster.
Once they have left, Dumbledore turns to the professor. The two of them engage in a quick verbal argument that the elder wins. It seems that he has not forgotten about the students, for he then turns to them asking, “Don’t you all have studying to do?”
Y/N and Harry find each other through the crowd of students, but both of them are still recovering from the shock. “Imagine if Umbridge had power over Professor Dumbledore! The chaos would be scarring!” exclaims Y/N. “Exactly..!” Harry halfheartedly replies. To be fair, the poor boy’s mind is already occupied. Trelawney almost got fired and she was human! Imagine what she would do to Hagrid! He dearly hoped that his daydream would never become a reality.  “Are you okay Harry? You’re starting to pale up!” Still seeming distant, he managed to let out a nod, and they went their separate ways.

Many weeks have passed since the last time Y/N and Harry talked, and her crush on the boy only grew.
She wasn’t exactly expecting to see him walking down the hall with his hand  bleeding out onto the floor. “This is the second time I’ve seen you all covered in blood! You seem to have a problem, Mr. Potter.” She said with a teasing grin. Harry, still slightly upset replied, “Are you just going to stand there or help me?” With a slight scoff, Y/N walked over and carefully took the boy’s hand. “Let’s go to the infirmary yeah? There we can get some bandages.” He nodded, and the pair walked down the corridor.
Y/N led Harry to a cot and gently nudged him on. “You stay here while I get some Murtlap Essence. I should warn you, it consists of tentacles.” After seeing his disgusted expression, she said “I swear it works though!” Harry still didn’t seem very convinced.
After rummaging through the cabinets, Y/N was finally able to find the potion. She rushed over and poured the substance into a bowl for him to soak his hand into. “So I just put it in?” Harry said, still quite disbelieving. Y/N nodded, and  eventually, the pain from the black quill won over and he shoved his hand into the bluish liquid. Almost immediately, Harry let out a sigh of relief, as the remedy seemed to be doing its job. “Now that your cuts are getting healed, do you mind telling me what happened?”
Harry went on to explain what happened if you got detention with Umbridge, talking about how she replaced his quill with one that caused the injuries. By the end of his story, Y/N was bearing a fierce yet empathetic look on her face. Fierce because how could this be permitted in Hogwarts!? Empathetic because she wouldn’t wish this on her worst enemy, and it happened to be her long time crush bearing the pain. “Please try to stay out of trouble Harry! I hope the next time we meet it won’t be when you’re in pain.” With a cheeky grin, he says “I can’t promise anything.” The pair share a laugh, and Harry asks, “Can I walk you back to the Y/H common room? Please? It’ll be my thanks to you.” He didn’t know this, but Y/N’s insides were filled to the brim with butterflies. Was it possible that the Chosen One, liked her back? “Of course! Thank you, I appreciate it. Are you sure it’s not too much? I wouldn’t want to get you in trouble.” Harry then made sure to reassure you that it would be his pleasure.
The walk back was filled with awkward jokes, shy smiles, and red faces. And when the pair arrived at their destination, they didn’t want to part. Harry seemed hesitant, opening his mouth like a fish and closing it. Finally, he was able to muster up that Gryffindor Courage™ and ask, “Y/N, I know we haven’t seen each other a lot, but I was wondering if... You’d like to hang out at Hogsmeade together?” Y/N mimicked his previous expression, mouth wide open and gaping. It seems like she was taking too long to answer, because he immediately blurted out saying “It’s totally fine if you don’t want to! No rush at all. I understand.” “NO No, that’s not it. I just- wasn’t expecting it. I would love to come with you to Hogsmeade.” Both of them were now red in the face, bearing shining smiles. “I look forward to our date Ms. (Y/L/N)” “The same to you Mr. Potter” Y/N entered the common room, completely saturated with serotonin. She hoped that this would be the start of a new relationship.
