My mental health has improved substantially since I left and cut off all of the old (kin-associated) groups. At this point in my life I really cannot tolerate the attitudes of non-shifters and otherkin (who don't shift) mucking up my feed. Out with the old!
Now I'm going to be exclusively around shifter-positive groups. I'm having trouble finding those that are alterhuman-friendly, but I'll keep searching... or moderate my own, lol. The gatekeeping on amino (not just with physical shifters, but with all types of shifting) killed my desire to go back there so I've been scouring the net looking for other sites to frequent. I've found a few, but they're all so desolate and inactive... Reddit is the only place I've ever found some decent activity.
If you want to know more about the gatekeeping problem, the shifter community has a habit of placing one type of shifting over others...sometimes this is reasonable, but many other times it ends up suppressing the activity in communities, as people keep their experiences to themselves. I do get where the gatekeepers are coming from-they don't want misinformation to spread, and people claiming fantastical things should not always be taken at face value (though I am open to hearing their claims if they have a good case for them). I do get we need to keep our communities safe from people who may abuse our trust (and claim whatever to get us to do things for them) but at the same time, I don't believe this is the way to do it.
The supernaturals I have found on reddit seem open-minded, however. There are telepaths and psions, psychics and magicians, and even alien abductees. I've been hanging out with the telepaths in the meantime, learning about their ways and abilities. Telepathy has always interested me as a concept-I can't remotely do it, but it does fascinate me.
But that's what I've been doing these past couple of weeks. Exploring the internet for signs of life from the community, and finding more supernaturals on reddit than I could dream of.

I’ve been feeling suicidal for the first time in years. What keeps me here? What’s one of the biggest reasons I’ve fought to stay alive this long? Him. For the man who held me in his arms as I desperately sobbed for relief. Who gave me a personally, intimate moment, that I will cherrish forever. Six years later. And I’m still here. And every day I am, I owe to him.
Always Keep Fighting. 🖤

Friday, February 16.
Some good news.
News of a good disposition seems more than a little sparse right now, so you really have to make the most of it, as and when.
There is some news, however, from Greece. And this news is pretty, pretty good. So we are going to break this particularly good news to you the only way we know how. Enjoy it y'all.

I’ve seen a few posts commenting on the boys’ board game closet consisting almost entirely of copies of Clue but I haven’t seen anyone point out that they also have a Ouija board in there
Who are you communicating with? Each other??

hi, i hope this isn't weird, but i'm genuinely interested in the idea of p-shifters and what it's like. may i ask what it means to you personally? is it any different from life as a therian? would you say it's just splitting hairs to divide the two? again, sorry if this is weird question
It's fine! For us personally we consider it to be any sort of physical or perceived physical change into another creature. Over the years there's been a variety of people in the community who have called themselves shifters, and we find that this definition encompasses most types, including our experiences.
We would say it differs from being a therianthrope, because there are things therians seem to experience that shifters don't seem to, and vice versa:
In our case, we don't seem to experience dysphoria, and when we do, it's usually a symptom of an underlying medical issue-it's not inherent to our identities in the way it is for therianthropes. We have this intense physicality to our experiences that therians seem to reject-even without shifting, there's a physical feeling to being nonhuman that therians don't seem to share.
Shifting is also easier for us and is more of a skill in comparison to what therians experience. We've noticed therians generally don't seem to really believe in learning or practicing any kind of shifting, whereas we actually enjoy it and find it fun. We can also control it and decide when to shift, whereas therians seem to be quite skeptical that someone can control shifting to that extent.
We also relate to humans, whereas therians don't really seem to consider themselves human outside of in the physical sense. Like for me, I'm a human being as much as I am a nonhuman being. If you were to turn me into an animal permanently I'd be just as confused as if you turned me into a non-shifter human permanently, since both are integral to my sense of being. Therians seem more willing to just turn into an animal and leave everything behind, which isn't something most shifters are apt to do.
We've also found that when we talk to therians about these things they usually seem to be confused or flabbergasted by the way we function? Whereas shifters tend to get it instantly, and relate well.
It doesn't seem like it'd be splitting hairs to divide the two, because while therians and shifters do both have some connection to animality, the nature of this experience varies: for therians it's non-physical and more metaphorical whereas for shifters it's very physical and literal. There is also a supernatural element to our experiences that therians seem to lack - they can get spiritual with their experiences, but I've never seen a therian actually admit to the same level of supernatural experiences that shifters do.
Hope this answered your questions!

The Kickstarter for Eureka: Investigative Urban Fantasy is Live!!
Eureka: Investigative Urban Fantasy is our team’s debut TTRPG, over three years in the making! The campaign will run from April 10th to May 10th!
youtube
How far would you go to learn the truth?
Play amateur detectives caught up in things they barely understand, and explore how the lives of your characters unravel as they push themselves to dig deeper into the unknown!
Tumblr media
Tense investigations!
Delve into an investigation-focused mystery and horror system that lets players take initiative and use their characters’ unique strengths to find clues and deduce conclusions themselves. A few bad rolls won’t get the party hopelessly stuck, but at the same time Eureka respects their intellect and lets them take charge of solving the mystery!
Tumblr media
Character-driven gameplay!
Stats and abilities are based on who your character is as a person. Freeform character creation allows you to build a totally unique little guy, and have a totally unique gameplay experience with him! This is supported by the backbone of the Composure mechanic. Stress, fear, fatigue, and hunger will wear your investigators down as they trudge deeper into the unknown. Food, sleep, and connections with their fellow investigators are the only way to keep them going!
Tumblr media
Secrets inside and out!
Any investigator could be a monster, helping their friends while trying not to reveal their true natures. The party will learn to trust and rely on each other, or explode into a tangled net of drama!
Tumblr media
Intense, tactical combat!
Hits are devastating, and misses are unpredictable–firing a gun will always change the situation somehow, for better or for worse!
Tumblr media
Now in Technicolor!
Evocative artwork from talented femme-fatales @chaospyromancy and @qsycomplainsalot and the mysterious @theblackwarden paint a gorgeously-realized portrait of a world with shadows lurking in every corner.

Elegantly designed and thoroughly playtested, Eureka represents the culmination of three years of near-daily work from our team, as well as a lot of our own money. We are almost at the end, we just need some financial support to put the finishing touches on it and make the final push to get it ready for official release!
With every stretch goal we meet, the game gets better and better. Tons of beautiful new artwork, new options for gameplay, and even two entirely new playable Monsters could be added to the book, so visit the Kickstarter and secure your copy today!

If you want to try before you buy, you can download a free demo of the prerelease version from our website or our itch.io page!
If you’re interested in a more updated and improved version of Eureka: Investigative Urban Fantasy than the free demo you got from our website, subscribe to our Patreon where we frequently roll our new updates for the prerelease version!
You can also support us on Ko-fi, or by checking out our merchandise!
Join our TTRPG Book Club At the time of writng this, Eureka: Investigative Urban Fantasy is the current game being played in the book club, and anyone who wants to participate in discussion, but can’t afford to make a contribution, will be given the most updated prerelease version for free! Plus it’s just a great place to discuss and play new TTRPGs you might not be able to otherwise!
We hope to see you there, and that you will help our dreams come true and launch our careers as indie TTRPG developers with a bang by getting us to our base goal and blowing those stretch goals out of the water, and fight back against WotC's monopoly on the entire hobby. Wish us luck.

Hear me out here, slow burn found family.
Enemies turning into siblings, tired mentors turning into parents, the chaotic background character becoming that weird family member that shows up two hours late to everything with wine.
All these characters going from “I’m a lone wolf, I don’t need anybody” to getting so used to the love and support of the others that they end up like “hello, I have 17 kids and 35 siblings and I’m sorry I’m late to the PTA meeting, I had to give my 23 parental figures a ride to the mall”.
