This is my self-love altar. It's really small, but now I'm using one table for both studies and everything else, so I made this small and on a tray instead. It's really simple to make!

Things on my altar:

3 tealight candles - 2 pink and 1 white. I would rather put 1 white, 1 pink, and 1 red candle but honestly, it doesn't matter as long as the intention is there. The bad thing about tealights is that they don't last for so long, so I'm only going to light them when I say my affirmations.

1 sigil - I got the idea from Pinterest. I like how it turned out.

4 shells - these are also associated with love. I don't work with deities, but for those who do, shells are connected to Aphrodite. Water is generally connected to emotions, and I added them because my zodiac sign (both sun and moon) is Cancer ♋.

1 moonstone - also can be associated with my sign, and the moon, and intuitive abilities. I don't have a rose quartz but this is also associated with love sometimes. It's best to put a crystal that you like, and it doesn't always have to be associated with love.

4 jasmine flowers - also can be used if you don't have roses. There's a jasmine plant in my garden, and I pick the flowers from there. I also personally like it as it works well for intuition. Jasmine is also a popular flower in Kerala (my state, in India) so there's the cultural aspect of it too.

1 love poem - from the poet Rumi. The poem I chose is 'The Beauty of the Heart'. I read it when I'm working with my altar.

1 bracelet - which I enchanted. It was a gift to me from my dad, and I wear it whenever I go outside. It's also got diamonds, which are also associated with love.

1 lip balm - I enchanted this too with some intentions

1 mirror - because the only person that matters the most in your life is you! I look into it every day to say my affirmations.

The affirmations I use:

I am beautiful, inside and out.

I love myself, and so I attract love.

A few years ago when I first started on tumblr, I came across this post https://www.tumblr.com/tysaescorner/719479862700670976/stellawitchcraft-ive-been-meaning-to-make-some?source=share by @stellawitchcraft and I remember thinking to myself, “man, that is so neat and such a great idea! especially if one is always on the go or lacking the physical space for their altar.” Needless to say, it left a huge impact on me.

Recently-ish, it crossed my feed again when I wanted to create a #Pathway altar for my personal practice--because it dawned on me that since I’m also an artist, I could just DRAW it and use it--and I was reinspired! For me, I wanted to include all 6 elements, and all 13 solar signs. I also added my art for one of my water spirits, as well as how Venus came to me in meditation a month or so ago.

SO. Here are my digital sketchbook altars (the one in my sketchbook is currently in use). May you find inspiration everywhere!

This is my self love altar! I recently revamped it with some stones, an acorn, two spells I made for myself, cleansing spray, affirmations, my journal, a little coloring book I made, and crayons. It's been nice to have, especially when I'm in a bad headspace.

Self Altar

That's right, I have an altar to myself.

Arrogant? Um, have you fucking met me?

I kid. I don't think this is arrogant at all. All people have a spark of the Divine within them. Were we not created by Gods? What is so wrong with honoring that?

Self altars are a meditative device. A self care device. A self love device.

Mine is on the bookshelf that holds my altars to Hestia and Athena above it, and my magical books below it. It is to the side of my work desk, so I'm next to it all day long. It isn't just my icon. My altar contains

My planner

My shadow work journal

My prayer journal

My general spiritual journal

Various crystals

Religious iconography

An incense burner

Rose water for my face

A trivet to hold my teapot

A blessing from my friend

And my Tiara of the Year

It reminds me that I am not just a worker bee, a mindless drone for capitalistic greed. I am a person, worthy of care and love, even from myself. And let me tell you, I have struggled so hard with loving myself. So I love myself and I take care of myself in practical ways using my altar as a tool.

Beauty Magic: Beauty Oil for Hair, Skin, Candles and More! 🌹

So I’ve already written about a beauty water, now it’s time for a beauty oil! For us natural hair beauties, you can use this to seal your ends after spritzing or conditioning your hair. You can also use it on your skin! Avocado oil has a comedogenic rating of 3, which means it may clog some people’s pores and make them break out, so be wary of using it on your face. This isn’t the case for everyone, though, so feel free to give it a test run! The rest of these oils are generally known to not clog the pores of most people, however. :) And they’re all amazing for hair! Add a few drops to your body lotion or hair cream and watch the magic happen. All of these ingredients are associated with beauty, youthfulness and love!

Ingredients

Avocado Oil (love, beauty)

Olive Oil (peace, prosperity)

Sweet Almond Oil (wealth, abundance, love)

Jojoba Oil (love)

Rosehip Oil (love)

Rose petals--fresh, dried, whatever you have on hand! (love, beauty)

You could add a few drops of vanilla extract if you wanted to, as well! Not too much, though, because alcohol is drying. True rose oil isn’t available to most of us, so rose petals will have to do. Make sure they’re organic and don’t contain any pesticides!

Use one part avocado oil and one part olive oil as your base. Place your rose petals into a squeeze bottle and pour the oil over them. Add a teaspoon to a tablespoon of the rest of your oils, screw on your bottle top and give everything a good shake. You can set it on an altar or under the full moon to charge, or even among some pink and white candles. You could use this for your hair and body, and you can use it to dress candles and other objects with as well. It’s multipurpose! And it makes an amazing base for a sugar scrub. ;)
