#The Girls Are Never Gone #sarah glenn marsh #this is. fine.#it’s like. not creepy until maybe 70% imo #why is she releasing episodes of her podcast every few days….even when she hasn’t discovered anything particularly?#is it not much more realistic for people to finish doing these things and form it into a coherent narrative before releasing episodes #Like that wouldn't have worked for the plot but it stood out to me #If it was one of those things where her personality and influencer-vibes is the main draw that would be feasable #but I didn't really get that feel from the two podcast excerpts we got.#Taking out some of the random stuff slowing the first half and putting bits of the podcast in the actual narrative so we got the feel for w #might have made things more interesting. And put more tension between her paranormal podcasting persona and real life skepticism #don't love stuff that engages with true crime fans without actively critiquing it. This was another YA book that was okay, but I couldn't get over how the story was overtaken by romantic feelings between characters (although I kept thinking that teens can often get lost in the Feelings, which does sort of drown out everything else). It's fair to say that I may have aged out of the demographic that this would most appeal to (I definitely have, but in fairness, I really do love a lot of YA), so I may have enjoyed this one more if I was younger. As it stands, though, I only liked it to an okay degree.

Happy Pride Month

here's a look at my current queer bookshelf🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈

It's super small atm but it's slowly growing, most of them are either transition related or wlw related. Here's a list of all the books and their Goodreads links from top to bottom.

Gideon The Ninth - Tamsyn Muir. Lesbian necromancers explore a haunted gothic palace in space. I am kind of obsessed. I currently only have an e-book version but I liked it so much I'm looking to continue the series as physical books (I'm holding out hope for the books as a birthday present). Also butch rep. I am rabid for butch rep.

One Last Stop - Casey McQuinston. On my TBR pile. A romance that starts on a NYC subway but the love interest is trapped in the past.

The Girls are Never Gone - Sarah Glenn Marsh. On my TBR pile. Girl runs a paranormal investigation podcast and starts investigating a mysterious death from 30 years ago. The most recent book I bought that I'm looking forward to reading when I finish Children of Time.

The Lost Girls - Sonia Hartl. Holly gets revenge on her vampire ex by killing him and stealing his new girlfriend. I read this last year and I don't normally enjoy vampires but this book took me by surprise, lots of funny jokes about immortality and some empathetic discussions about emotional neglect and grooming that did make me cry a little.

Growing Older as a Trans and/or Nonbinary Person - Jennie Kermode. On My TBR pile. Insight and advice on being trans later in life in the UK. Reviewers have mentioned that it's mostly specific to the transfeminine experience but I still thought this book might be nice to look at.

Spectrums - Maxfield Sparrow. A collection of personal anecdotes from autistic trans people. Some bits are poetry some are more essay based, it was very heart-warming and affirming.

It Came From The Closet - Joe Vallese. On my TBR pile. A collection of essays on queer representation in the horror genre.

Courtney Gould is the master of this rn IMO - read both of her books and keep an eye on her newest coming in December. (I don't know what Lockwood and co. is so can't speak to the vibe, but.) At the very least, you must read her The Dead and the Dark.

I haven't read Rules for Vanishing by Kate Alice Marshall or The Girls Are Never Gone by Sarah Glenn Marsh yet, but give them a shot?

Also, a friend read Hearts Still Beating by Brooke Archer early (releases April 2nd) and loved it, and I feel like that could be your jam, too, along with Afterlove by Tanya Byrne, which is already out.

For fans of ghost stories, I just read The Girls Are Never Gone by Sarah Glenn Marsh.

It's about a young girl named Virginia Dare Chase, (but more commonly known as just Dare), who has a ghost hunting podcast, but doesn't believe in ghosts (remind you of anyone??)

Don't want to spoil too much, but the story itself is sapphic, spooky, and thrilling, and absolutely leaves you guessing.
