Donkey Doubts (Tainted Miracle AU)
“Donkeys got out again, huh Luisa?”
Turning sharply at the voice, Mirabel stood in the shadow of one of the barns wooden pillars, leaning easily against the rough grains. Luisa could see the slight shine of the gold embroidery in her purple skirt, and the reflective surface of her glasses.
“I’m not supposed to talk to you,” she said in response, pushing another Donkey back into its stall with a grunt, “it’s fine. I’ll be done in a sec.”
“Seems kinda unfair, having to do all this work by yourself,” Mirabel mused, “what with all this magic going around? Yet here you are, doing hard labor in a barn.”
“It’s just another chore,” Luisa huffed, “it’s no big deal,”
“If you say so. But it seems to me you’re more of a Donkey then my friends here are,”
“Sorry? Was that an insult?”
Luisa popped her knuckles angrily, but Mirabel merely chuckled slightly under her breath.
“The workmule of the Madrigal family, right? Not a single day off? Barely any thanks at all? More work, more silly chores, one after the other? If it were me, Luisa, I’d think I was being taken advantage of. Don’t you think?”
Luisa said nothing, her shoulders dropping as Mirabel shrugged and sniffed slightly, “but that’s just me. Take it as you’d like. I’m not an enemy here, just making an observation,”
“Uh…yeah, whatever,” Luisa mumbled, locking the last donkey into its home, “if you figure out how the Donkey’s keep getting out, let me know?”
“Of course,” Mirabel nodded easily, “I owe Señor Perez that much,”
“Right. Well…see ya,” lifting a hand, Luisa quickly left the barn, a little more discontent then when she had entered. Mirabel watched her go from the door, blind eyes intense behind her glasses. She grinned, kicking a toe, before turning to unlock the ropes of the stalls all over again.
HC Development Notes:
Mirabel is a very smart girl. She’s good at subtly stirring up discontent to make people feel a certain way about themselves.
She’s incredibly patient, slowly kicking up misgivings wherever she goes. Mira isn’t really the type to be super obvious nor impulsive in her intentions unless desperation kicks in (we’ll talk about that later).
Other then her mom, Luisa is the second Madrigal kin Mira has the most contact with, as she enters the barn to put the donkeys away almost every day.
Mira spends most of her time in the Barn, sleeping in one of the empty stalls and hanging out in the rafters to watch the town from a hole in the roof.
As usual, thanks for the awesome support as this AU slowly develops. If you have any ideas for HC’s, or comments about it, please drop them in the tags, comment, or @ me on my page :)

Tainted Miracle
More thoughts about the Evil!Mirabel AU, which has turned more or less into a ‘Heavily Misunderstood and Begrudged recluse who wants to tear the family apart EXCEPT for her mom and Antonio’ AU. But that’s a mouthful so we’re just gonna call it…
The Tainted Miracle AU
Kay? Kay.
Design Notes:
•I decided against going the fully corrupt, truly evil route. Mira was looking to much like a dark sorceress for my taste (which she’s not).
•Her ruana (yes, it’s a ruana not a poncho, I know the difference) does have a hood on it, I just didn’t draw it to show the back pattern.
•There wasn’t enough of the original Mirabel in my concept sketches so I brought more of her film outfit back to tie into canon and make her a bit more recognizable.
•Mirabel’s design is supposed to be very…unassuming. You wouldn’t think someone wearing rainbow patterns, glasses, and a blouse that didn’t fit right would be plotting something devious. But she is…oh yes, she very much is.
•I changed Mirabel’s main motif from butterflies to dragonflies. Both represent change, but while the butterfly represents life and transformation, the dragonfly represents emotional maturity, adaptivity, and self-realization.
•Her outfit is designed to make it look like it doesn’t quite fit right, either because she wasn’t able to get the measurements perfect with what she had, or the borrowed clothing wasn’t the right size. That and she’s still growing a little bit, and her weight fluctuates.
Few more notes regarding the slowly building HC.
• After the candle blinds her (age 10), Pepa doesn’t want Mirabel in the Nursery with baby Antonio anymore out of fear she’ll hurt him when they aren’t there. The only person against the idea is Julieta — even Augstín agrees — who is quickly overruled.
•Casita won’t build a room for Mirabel since she tried to touch the candle with ill will, so she’s taken by Abuela to the nearby farm of Señor Perez, where he allows her to sleep in his barn as a favor to the Madrigal family *this is the same barn where the donkey’s come from*
•Mirabel is left in the barn by herself at night, and is only allowed back in the Madrigal house during the day, and when someone else is present. No one really wants her there out of fear she’ll try to touch the candle again, so the family do what they can to keep her permanently outside — only Julieta will sit with Mirabel in the Kitchen for food.
•Eventually Abuela has Julieta deliver food straight to the barn to discourage Mirabel from returning. The family visit the barn occasionally just to ‘check in’, but eventually they stop except for Julieta (who brings food) and Luisa who has to put the Donkey’s away — that interaction is very brief.
•Julieta is chided later on for spending to much time at the barn, and is ordered to leave the food at the fence for Mirabel to pick up. She visits in secret for a while, trying her best to stay close to her daughter (who’s growing thin and more sickly by the day), but eventually Mirabel stops letting her into the Barn and she’s forced to just make deliveries and leave.
•Mirabel makes all of her own clothing out of things she’s given, or finds as scraps in the village. She stole her sewing things back from the family early on, but all of her other belongings are still inside Casita which won’t let her in unless invited — which won’t ever happen again.
•Mirabel eventually just becomes the village recluse, and isn’t really associated with the Madrigal family by the time she’s 15. Only Señor Perez (who leaves food and blankets) and her mother keep her from starving or needing to beg on the corner for things.
•Mirabel has been watching the family very closely for some time. She knows how the magic is fragile since Abuela’s tight grip is cracking the original miracle’s foundations. She just needs to find out how to put it out for good.

Fanart for @pitviperofdoom‘s fic Yesterday Upon The Stairs. It’s such an amazing fic and I love it and her other works as well to bits! I had to draw this scene from the latest chapter and I hope I have time to draw more! I simply love Pit’s works and want to shower them with love.
I wanted to make the ghosts look a bit trasnparent/faded looking for this so it would be easier to tell the living and the dead apart

Shinso: Did you know most laughs that you hear on TV shows were recorded in the 1950s? That means, technically, you’re most likely hearing dead people laughing.
YUTS!Izuku: This may be a pretty interesting fact for most people, but I can always hear dead people laughing!
Aizawa: Hey, kid, what the fuck does that mean?

One thing I feel I picked up in Waiting On a Miracle from Encanto that I’m probably reading into way too much is the verses saying
“I can’t move the mountains
I can’t make the flowers bloom
I can’t heal what’s broken”
She does all of those things. Just not in the way we expect.
She did make new trees and flowers grow. She bonded with Isabella and in response helped her realise that she wasn’t just roses and perfection. She had all of these amazing plants at her beck and call but had no idea about it until Mirabel made her upset.
She did move the mountains, everything that happened caused the mountain to split and move, allowing her and her Abuela to visit the river and allowed them to actually talk.
Also going with the whole ‘mountain of a human’ idea; she helped Luisa realise that she was under a lot of pressure. (Though this one’s a bit of a stretch)
Them talking allowed them to start healing their broken relationship with their family, and realise that their Gifts were exactly that, a gift, and not who they were as people. Her bonding with both of her sisters also allowed that ‘healing’ to start as well.
So to me, at least, she did move the mountains, she did make new trees and flowers grow, and she did heal what was broken.
