Transgender Books For Your Libraries
I have said this before, but right now requesting and reading queer books from your local library is important. I want to take a second to say there is a direct attack against the transgender community around the globe, and it's worth your time to request and read transgender books. HEY YOU!
Yeah, you! Are you trans? Do you like reading books? Or watching movies?
Do you like media about trans men/transmasculine characters but don't know where to find it?
That's sooo crazy because I have this little spreadsheet I'm working on where I'm trying to document all media with protagonists/major characters who are FTM or transmasculine.
The spreadsheet currently has 200+ entries spread across the following categories:
Books
Manga
Memoirs and non-fiction
Movies
TV Shows
Graphic novels / Comics
Webcomics
Audio dramas
Books and movies are also sorted by:
Which character is trans (MC, love interest, antagonist, etc)
If the trans character is POC
The trans character's sexuality (Because I saw lots of transhet guys sad about only being able to find gay romances)
If the author/actor is also trans (if we know for sure)
It's free to use, and free to add to as well! Editing permissions are on, and I check on the spreadsheet every now and then to make sure everything is in order and to clean up.
If you know something that isn't on the list, please add it! You don't have to fill in every single column, but fill it to the best of your abilities.
If you don't want to use the big ass long link below, you can also use: bit.ly/FTM-protags
I made this because I want it to be a community resource. So even if you're not a trans guy or transmasculine person, please reblog!

GRIT: a poetry collection by silas denver melvin
goodreads
Tumblr media
The polite transphobia from adult women is no longer keeping you hostage as you sob an earthquake in your ex-boyfriend's car. Grit is a transgender coming of age story. There are no beautiful rainbows here, no whispers, but raw cries from somewhere primal.
Mod opinion: I haven't read this poetry collection, but I think I've read some of the author's poems here on tumblr.

SOMETHING'S NOT RIGHT IS OUT!
“A quietly fantastical wonderland of creatures, queerness, and possibility.” — Max Franciscovich @goose-books, author of Night Shift
The debut collection returns in a special fifth anniversary edition, repackaged with three new short stories, a new cover, and additional bonus content! A vampire is forced into a compromising situation; a father fears his child's growing plant collection; the undead go to high school; a butcher contemplates whether or not she can be loved. In a captivating debut, yves. opens the door to our world, slightly askew—where the crows work for witches and telephone booths serve as secret channels for prophecy; where a diverse cast of monsters and humans alike are forced to contend with what the world believes is right.
Thank you to everyone who made my weird uncategorizable "Lemony Snicket meets Carmen Maria Machado" speculative fiction an instant bestseller! If you’ve ever felt like a monster, this book is for you.
PRESS: KZSC interview | Santa Cruz Sentinel interview
EXCERPTED SHORT STORIES
BUY NOW!
signed paperback | paperback & ebook (amazon) | ebook (itch.io)
& at all major retailers!
Thank you so much for reading this post about my book. I hope you will share it, and this image of my beautiful black cat, Andy, widely. To queer weird fiction and indie pub! To you, Dear Reader, with love.

Hi Tumblr,
Help me out a bit? I'm seeing a huge uptick in people saying that "trans romcoms" and "happy trans books" don't exist, and like... I published one two years ago and the paperback is still readily available at bookstores, so this is just not true?
My battle to get Meet Cute Diary recognized as a romcom is literally still ongoing. People keep arguing it MUST be an issue book just because the characters are PoC and trans, but it's literally a comedy, it doesn't "educate" on trans issues, and his being trans is NOT the plot of the story.
Anyway, I don't need anyone to buy the book or read the book or like the book. I just want people to acknowledge that it exists so I can stop 1. having to explain to people that it's not an issue book. The fact that it doesn't deal in trans suffering is actually the highlight, yes. and 2. dealing with people blatantly erasing the fight and progress I made within the industry just to get this book published.
Tumblr media
Anyway, this is the cover. If you could just share it around and let people know that we *are* allowed to write trans romcoms and one already exists and has had bookshelf space in stores across the U.S. and ALSO in several other countries, that would be great, thanks!

Don’t panic—Mercury Stardust, AKA The Trans Handy Ma’am is here to help!
For too many people, the simple act of contacting a plumber or repair person can feel like a game of chance. As a transwoman and a professional maintenance technician, Mercury Stardust has discovered (the hard way) that we live in a world with much to fear. If you've ever felt panicked about opening your home to strangers in order to fix a maintenance issue, this book is for you.

You deserve to feel empowered to take matters into your own hands—and it’s not as hard as you might think. In this book, Mercury will show you how to tackle the projects that need improvement in your home—from how to properly fix a clog in your bathroom sink and safely hang things on your walls to patching small and medium drywall holes.

Guidance for over 50 simple home maintenance projects, such as replacing your showerhead and troubleshooting a faulty garbage disposal.
Chapters covering basic and handy repairs for your plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and safety needs.
Advice tailored to renters to minimize permanent changes.
