Or at least, very very little of it. The opposite of the very popular LTP (long term pining).

This post in response to a question posed by the most excellent @luuhecia who asked: Soooo here's my plea: do you have any recommendations of shows where the people involved have no previous history?

In other words we get to watch them meet and fall in love with no prior history on either side. So I eliminated those were there was a made crush even if only recently (e.g. Light on Me, Takara & Amagi).

1. Seven Days

They know of each other but just in a normal high school way. No pining. The story is basically about the 7 days it takes them to fall in love.

2. Color Rush

They are destined for each other but they have never met before.

3. Semantic Error

In fact, part of the premise is a “hunt for the unknown boy who made him fail to graduate.”

4. To My Star

They have a couple of meet cutes, accidentally shack up together.

There are actually a TON from Korea.

The new kid in high school. They have a family connection (it turns out) but they didn’t know each other.

6. Restart After Come Back Home

We see them meet for the first time and then go on from there.

They meet by crashing into each other because... Taiwan.

There are a lot of good ones from Thailand but I chose this because it’s part of the plot, how they know nothing about each other.

Was she the one that he dreamt about?

If someone said he was making a fool of himself, they would be completely right.

But now Xavier had a bit more pressing matters at hand, than to worry about not looking like an idiot. Like a growing hard-on that would be very hard to conceal while wearing a pair of swimming trunks. Another one was Val and her hands still against his chest, the touch almost burning his skin. But he kept his arm around her, unable to let go as he stared into her face, completely lost for words.

How could it be? Was it truly her? Why?

She wasn't the only one with grey eyes and those glints of green dancing around her hair. Surely there was an explanation for that. Like, a magnetic field? Or chemical imbalance in the air? Or—

"Like what you see?" She wiggled her eyebrows at him, her own face feeling a little warm from the intensity of his stare.

"Yes." He blurted out, eyes now darting away from her as his blurry vision from before started invading his mind. "Wait, no! No, I mean, yes. I—"

He let go of her suddenly, as if she burned him, almost making her topple backwards.

"Last one in water is a loser!" Ajax came to his rescue, noticing his best friend's distress.

Xavier bolted towards the lake, praying she didn't notice his raging boner he now sported. Ajax splashed in right behind him and Xavier could swear he felt the judgement of his friend's stare through his skin.

"What was that?" Gorgon murmured, his dark eyes searching his friend's face with a knowing grin.

"I am stupid." Xavier groaned, dunking his head underwater.

Somehow he ended up with Divina's camera in his hands and an idea came to his drunken mind.

"Hey, we should document the meetings. Have a chronicle, snap some pictures. What d'yall think?"

That's how he got tasked with being the cameraman for the night, clicking away, catching some silly moments. But he also did some portraits - the idea pitched to him by Ajax and he gladly followed with it. He did everything in his power not to spend too much time taking pictures of Val separately, so he resorted to having her in the frame almost every time he took a group one. He promised to upload them from his own laptop later on if Divina agreed to lend him the camera for longer.

When he got back to the dorm with Rowan, he immediately went to the laptop. Thankfully his roommate went straight to his bathroom, so he could flip through the pictures, stopping at the ones with Val without raising suspicion. He felt the heat spreading through his body again and he had to stop himself from palming his dick through his sweatpants. Xavier gaped at the last message. The heat pooled in his core and he felt his body tingling with excitement. Pretty boy. His hand cupped his erection at once but before he could relieve the tension, the door of Rowan's bathroom clicked and he almost jumped out of his chair at the sound. Yet she still confused him. On one hand, she gave him all those signals - every time she touched his hand it made him feel sparks between them, he noticed how her breath seemed to quicken a little, or how she stood a bit closer than she needed to whenever they spoke, the way she looked at him over her shoulder when they parted their ways with a smile that made the butterflies in his stomach go crazy, he was almost sure she liked him a bit more than a friend. The same way he seemed to like her.

But then she did those little gestures with Kent too. She looked from under her eyelashes at Rowan whenever he talked to her about his Botany homework - a subject she seemed to be very good at although she chose not to show off during classes like Bianca.

Her confidence intimidated him as much as it seemed to draw more people to her the more she socialized. And she didn't even have any social media presence.

Maybe this meant nothing at all? Maybe she just was this friendly with everyone? But this thought did not help him as his eyes actively sought her out in the corridors.

Yoko introduced Val to Enid a few days before the Poe Cup. They needed a fourth person onto their Black Cats' team and Val was their first pick. She was a great swimmer, as the word from her practice spread on. Val agreed - the competition was supposed to be very dangerous and she longed for something exciting, different than the schoolwork. There were supposed to be no rules. However, this also seemed to apply to her new friend. She didn't expect Enid to know almost everything about everyone at Nevermore, despite not knowing everyone in person.

"So, what's with you and Xavier? Cuz I've seen the looks he has been giving you and ohmygod that's sooo exciting like, the way he always stands in a way that he could see you, and he looks, like literally, he like stares so much, like this must mean something, right? I mean…"

It went on for hours while they prepared the boat for the competition near the shore. And it made Val feel a bit fuzzy. Could Xavier really like her this much?

"I feel like he isn't really that interested if at all, Enid." Val mused, trying to tone the girl down a notch. "He has been kinda avoiding me lately. Like, he walks away in the middle of us talking quite often. Doesn't really scream 'interested' to me to be honest."

There was a brief pause in which Enid shook her head and giggled.

"Xavier’s the captain of one of the other teams. You could try flirting with him to see if he 'isn't really that interested', you know? Oh, he's also on the team with Ajax, ohmygod, did I tell you about Ajax? He is so cute!"

Val and Yoko shared a look and smiled at each other, as the other girl blabbered away about her obvious crush. At least it saved them from further interrogation.

Val liked Xavier, that was for sure. But she didn't think of him as a person to be interested in her in any other way than just a friend. He seemed really stiff at times, distant and even avoided her recently. However, Enid was supposed to be the observant one, so testing the theory out wouldn't hurt. It might even be fun.

The day of the race came fast and Val couldn't help but feel excited about the oncoming challenge. Underneath the shivers however was a weird, a bit heavy weight in her stomach. What if she makes a fool out of herself? She fixed the leather-like material of her catsuit, checking if everything was tied as it should be, feeling the ears flopping annoyingly in the wind. Enid really had a field day with those costumes.

She saw Xavier's team exit their tents and she snorted at the utmost ridiculous sight that greeted her eyes. The jester costumes were something else.

This caused his eyes to meet hers and she gave him a big smile with a wink, that he reciprocated, although his eyes went down, sheepishly and she could see his neck reddened a little. Okay, this could still mean nothing. She needed more solid evidence. Enid giddily nudged her shoulder and gave her thumbs up before they settled into their boats.

The idea of Xavier slowly grew on her and she had to admit, she couldn't help but admire his hands whenever he showed off his abilities to make his art move or how she tried not to stare at his jawline, whenever he had his hair pulled back into a bun. He certainly was handsome.

She looked to the side only to meet Xavier's eyes immediately and went for a bolder move - she blew him a kiss over her shoulder and to her pleasant surprise, heard the paddle clatter as he most certainly dropped it. This was curious.

She missed the knowing glances Enid and Ajax exchanged between themselves.

Xavier couldn't even focus on such a simple task as rowing and he cursed under his breath, as the Black Cats kept getting smaller and smaller ahead of them. The picture of Val's ass in that tight, pleather costume and the kiss she blew him were messing with his head and the competition didn't even start properly.

They were the last out of three boats left to arrive on the island. He and Ajax, being the best runners, set out sprinting into the woods. They had no idea where the flags could be, so they separated in order to cover as much ground as possible.

And then he saw her in this god forsaken catsuit, holding his flag, hers nowhere to be seen, sporting a sneaky smirk on her face. Something wasn't quite right.

She smirked, as she watched Xavier stop dead in his tracks like a deer in the headlights. She straightened, planting her feet firmly on the stone she was standing on and hid the flag unsuccessfully behind her back. The top of it comically towered over her head but the gesture seemed to get the point across, as he slowly started towards her, his eyes narrowed.

"I don't think those are your colours." He pointed at the material flapping in the air over her head when he stopped in front of her. She raised her eyebrow at him, a challenge in her gaze, her eyes on the same level with his.

"Maybe, maybe not. But it's mine now. Finders keepers."

She turned swiftly, her hand stretched out behind her back as Xavier snatched at her from the other side and she laughed at him huffing in fake annoyance, his full lips fighting a smile. They both knew he could easily overpower her if he wanted to but the fact he didn't made her feel tiny butterflies in her stomach. He was a competitive one and yet, he stood there, playing with her instead of trying to get to the boat in time.

"Nuh-uh." She wiggled her finger at him and he let out a chuckle. "You've gotta earn it."

"Earn it?"

"Yeah. Pay for it, in other words."

"Smartass." He mumbled with a smile and tried snatching at the flag from the other side and he lurched forward, bumping his cheek against her nose. "How do I pay for… for it."

He now seemed to notice the proximity of their faces, his breath fanning her cheek as he turned towards her, slowly.

"I'm sure you can figure it out." She breathed, his smell making her slightly dizzy and her half-lidded eyes darted towards his lips. They were adorned with red paint, plump and parted slightly and she swore they were getting closer. And she panicked.

She kinda got what she wanted. This was quite enough of a confirmation for now, she thought to herself as she felt her heart pounding in her throat. Her own lips contorted into a wide, although very nervous grin.

"Catch me if you can then, smartass."

And with that, she was gone, running deeper into the woods, waving his flag at him. After a few seconds she heard heavy footfalls following her and she laughed at the curses Xavier spewed with his every breath, although fighting the laughter himself. It wasn't long before she felt large palms around her middle and with a squeal, their bodies collided and toppled to the forest floor in a tangle of limbs. The flag flew out of Val's hand towards the shore as she wildly grabbed at the front of the jester costume, pulling Xavier underneath her and onto his back before he noticed what happened, his eyes focused on the flag.

Only when she straddled his hips he let out a gasp and his wide eyes flew back towards her face, gliding along her body. He writhed, trying with all his might to pull her off of him, praying she wouldn't notice the constant erection he had since when she got out of her tent in that fucking tight costume. Qifrey’s Atelier:

It's just 2 gay dad's doing their best to raise 4 preteen girls. They teach them magic, and how to cook, and that they are so very loved, no matter what.

Supposedly Qifrey is the magic teacher assigned to these four girls, and Olruggio's job is to keep an eye on Qifrey. The girls stay at Qifrey's Atelier (basically like a tiny school) and they live there. HOWEVER, ACCORDING QIFREY HIMSELF (and many of the other kids and Olruggio) THEY CONSIDER THE ATELIER TO BE "HOME". Olruggio and Qifrey act as paternal figures and basically raise them. They live on the countryside, despite living in cities being the norm. Olruggio does his job very poorly because of his bias towards Qifrey, being his roommate/best friend/husband, every shady thing that Qifrey makes he lets it slide. There's also have a whole spin off dedicated to them cooking nice meals for the girls. They also have a pet: a fluffy small creature known as brushbug.

So they are basically a found family of gay cottagecore witches.

It's not only the amazing story between Jaemin and his girl, but also expands the au so much and brings it to life. The ending made me feel like I was watching the finale of the last season of a TV show. So so good. Like I said, the parts can be read separately, but they're stronger when read in order. <3

Banica Conchita (The Evillious Chronicles) "Known as the Evil Food Eater, she formed a contract with a demon of gluttony and as part of the contract developed a taste for "the world's most disgusting foods", most often involving cannibalism in some capacity. Her actions eventually led to her lover--also her chef--trying to kill both of them with poisoned soup, but when he was the only one who died, she ate him and cried with both grief and delight. She then very nearly ate her own infant child, but the demon's goading pushed her to eat herself, and the demon along with her, instead, making her the new demon of gluttony. Her greatest ambition is to devour the whole world.

In my opinion, Banica is a fantastic representative of the side of the Flesh that manifests as the fear of cannibalism, being eaten, being treated like livestock or a simple piece of meat. I mean, how many characters can say they got stronger by eating themselves?"

Justine (Raw) "Justine is newly enrolled in veterinary college and one of our first scenes with her is initiation ceremony where older students force newbies to do funny stuff like eating a raw rabbit's heart, taking pictures while sophomores dump buckets of blood on them, and then going to class without washing the blood off. Justine's mother forced her to be a vegetarian her whole life, but it all quickly falls apart when Justine gets away from her control and tastes meat for the first time. Raw rabbit's heart distressed her, of course, but it planted the seeds for obsession over meat, and not long after Justine can't think of anything else. She steals beef patties from the canteen, sneaks to the fridge at night and eats raw chicken breasts, and goes out of her way to eat more meat. She bites a guy's lip while making out so hard that he bleeds profusely. She eats her older sister's finger that they accidentally cut off. That same sister (she studies in this same college btw) causes a car accident and kills two people and then invites Justine to eat their raw warm still soft flesh, because as it turns out Justine is not the first one of her family to become a cannibal. Justine gets into a fight with her sister, they chew on each other a little bit. Justine eats her roommate (she doesn't cook him. She just gnaws on his thigh, smearing his blood all over the bed). She is not the first one to eat a guy, either - the ending reveals that her mother (yes, she went to this same veterinarian college) is eating her father - his back and chest are covered in scars from continuous gnawing. But its consensual so it's fine <3 love wins. I think Justine is a promising young avatar of the Flesh, she's got the cannibalism, the shots where she's covered in blood, the themes of blood and viscera (veterinarians deal with all sorts of gore. oh also there is a scene where they cut open dead dogs as a part of their studies and Justine performs brilliantly). Also (maybe a bit tangential to the Flesh but still) in her first weeks of college she develops a horrible rashes all over her body. There are a lot of scenes with her scratching herself until her skin is all turn and bloody. This is very Flesh-y visual-wise in my opinion. Also the mother tried to prevent both of her daughters from repeating her own fate by restricting their diets. That's Flesh-y!"

Finished chapter 5 last night!

For a few glorious seconds, my roommate thought that Zeke might be the Emperor of Mor Ardain (before Mórag revealed that he's Tantal's prince, etc and that's why she won't fight him)

Upon seeing Amalthus for the first time: Roommate: "Oh, that beard does not do you any favors. You think you're eating that outfit? That outfit is eating you."

Nia: "What's he going to do, eat her?" Roommate: "YES!"

Oh ok Indol was founded 1500 years ago. Haze says that the mural was painted when Indol was new, and Amalthus says it was painted 1500 years ago.

This way, my mad ranting about why no one should trust Amalthus with anything knowing that he's Malos's Driver won't be directed into posts on tumblr but instead at my roommate, who agrees with me and will rant right along with me

Well. I think my roommate just found a way to cheese the first Aeshma Core fight? She had Mórag and Zeke fight the Core to draw away its attacks and Nia just hit the power lines until they went down

Why I like Asa and Yoru

"Hypothetically…if one person in class…had to jump off a roof…and that person was to be chosen by a vote…I think they'd all vote for me. I'd vote for me too."

Chainsawman has probably my favorite cast of female characters in any action shounen manga. Something about the way this author writes women just really works for me.

I always hate in manga when a female character is just the male lead's friend, or the male lead's love interest, or the male lead's mom, or teacher, or secretary, or dog walker or whatever... Basically, they tend to either have no character or life outside of the male lead's world.

Something I really like about Chainsawman is that all the girls and women act like they could be the protagonist of their own stories. They all act like they have their own problems, their own goals, their own sh*t to deal with... They all feel like actual characters and not just things to be added to the male lead's story. If something happened to Denji and he were to die or something they each would still have a life to live and a story to tell.

So when I saw that part 2 of the manga would focus on a girl as the new protagonist, I got really excited!

(spoilers for Chainsawman)

And just as I imagined, it took me just one chapter to completely fall for Asa. I love this girl.

Just like all the other girls in the series, she feels like she has her own struggles to deal with. She hates devils and yet has to live in a world where everyone's biggest hero is a devil, both of her parents are dead and she has no friends which means she's always alone, and everywhere she goes she keeps attracting bad luck after bad luck, be it a devil trying to kill her, her classmates trying to kill her (in more than one ways), or the crazy girl inside her head threatening to kill her.

But what's really interesting is that, even though she deals with a lot (and it really is a lot, my God I feel sorry for her...) she is always true to her ideals.

Even though Asa has probably all the reason in the world to just be the most miserable person alive, she never stops being a nice person. Any time she's offered the option to help someone right in front of her she takes it, even if things don't work out in the end and she ends up getting really hurt as a result.

Something that I don't feel many people often realize is that being a selfish jerk is easy... Like, absurdly easy. There is nothing more tempting than just saying "My problems matter more than yours, so deal with it!"

Again, by all accounts, Asa should be the world's biggest supervillain because almost everyone and everything treats her like garbage... And yet, for some reason she still remains a good girl, never betraying her standards.

I'm not sure if it's because she knows how ugly it is to be a bad person and she refuses to be like them, or if the little love she received in life is enough to stop her from falling into temptation, but for whatever reason, she still continues to be one of the noblest heroes I've ever seen, even despite all the misery she faces every day.

But aside from being a noble and kind soul, Asa also has amazing chemistry with her internal roommate, Yoru.

I've always been a big fan of this trope, the two souls in one being, the devil in your ear, the demon that hides a secret power in the protagonist's body.

I liked it in Naruto with the fox, I liked it in Bleach with the inner hollow, and I also liked it in Soul Eater where they have people turn into weapons and have their souls literally connect, or in the Kane Chronicles where they have the protagonists be hosts for the Egyptian gods.

It's just a really fun idea with the concept of establishing a strong bond with another being and having them understand you on a deeper level than most people would. Having someone that knows your whole story, your secrets, your fears, your worries... It's kinda scary but at the same time fascinating because you have someone constantly looking at you and making you realize things about yourself you didn't even know about.

And that's exactly what Yoru is.

She's always pushing Asa to question and challenge her ideals. making her see who she truly is, and what she truly wants. It's like having a psychiatrist inside your head, constantly talking to you about who you are... And they do it in such a charming way.

Yoru keeps going back and forth between being this threatening creature holding Asa hostage to this complete dork who has no idea how the real world or how people work. It reminds me of Shen and Po how Asa goes from being scared of her to just being baffled by her.

These two have such good chemistry, probably the best one I've seen from this trope. I could watch them just talking to each other forever.

I love how Yoru keeps acting like she's so elegant, sophisticated, and gracious always making these exaggerated poses as if she was in a perfume commercial or modeling for a magazine... But when you hear her actually talking she kinda sounds like she's five years old, and you just have Asa looking at her antics and trying to process how to even react to her. It's just great mood backlash that really works.

I know it's weird to like a character so much when these two only had about 10 chapters of existence so far... But even from the little pieces I've seen from them I feel so many things clicking just right for me.

Great chemistry, great ideals, great personality... And I didn't even talk about how awesome their "war powers" are.

I completely adore this duo and I'm very happy with this new direction for Chainsawman!

Three Ships:

Jason Grace and Nico di Angelo from the Heroes of Olympus: This is one of those ships that just itches the right part of my brain. Jason Grace is one of my favorite characters ever, and his quest to try and balance his need to be a leader and a protector with his desire to be allowed to be an individual is so interesting to contrast with Nico who by this point is so firmly himself. But Nico has been hurt a lot and assumes he will never be trusted, even as Jason is trying to insist that he is someone who matters to their group and is trusted. So Nico decides to test him - in a dangerous moment, holding something the rest of the group thinks is poison, Nico holds the glass to Jason and says 'How much do you trust me?" And Jason looks him dead in the eye and drinks it no hesitation. Because his own life matters less than showing Nico is worthy of trust. They are sun and shadow, sky and earth, storm and death, they are the golden boy and the outcast. It's a delicious ship and it feeds me.

Taran and Eilonwy of Llyr from The Chronicles of Prydain: They are everything to me. They are the blueprint. You have friends to lovers, you have battle couple, you have princess and the farm boy, you have two people who genuinely want to find ways to improve themselves in order to be more worthy of the other person while also finding ways to grow together. They argue constantly, but there is so much love under it that is there from the very beginning because both of them are trying to navigate having to learn how to communicate with someone else. They are my ship that I have created a thousand aus for and will test any new au I discover for how well I can fit them into it because if they don't fit I probably don't like it that much.

Fanfic rec: I wrote two oneshots but also anything by Saeriellyn is incredible

Pacifica Northwest and Dipper Pines from Gravity Falls: My friends tease me about loving a sad rich girl and they aren't wrong, so I felt kind of targeted by Pacifica's arc in season 2 of Gravity Falls because it made her so exactly my type. Particularly in the way we start to see her grow out of it. She and Dipper have each seen each other at their worst which means they don't have to worry about the shields anymore and can push each other into growing and unpacking their own traumas and bad habits. But also we start to get all these hints that she can actually relate to him at his nerdiest once she has permission to do so, and I love that he can find someone who can operate at his level while she finds someone who gives her permission to be so much less than perfect and thus actually real.

Fanfic rec: The Worst Neighbor Ever by Proseandsongs

Last Film:

The Hobbit (1977): I found this streaming and was absoltuely delighted to watch it this morning. I have so many fond memories of this movie and it did not disappoint. The animation is wild, Bilbo spends the whole movie throwing massive shade, Gollum looks like an absolute nightmare, and it's a musical the way it should be.

Currently Watching:

My roommate and I are about to finish up Mentopolis on Dimension 20 and I'm losing my mind a little bit over how this season is going. I can't wait to see how it resolves!

My writing shows at the moment are The Great British Bake Off Holiday Specials, The Christmas Cookie Challenge, and my annual rewatch of Midsomer Murders.

Currently Reading:

Nothing really because most of my books are still in boxes and I haven't had the spoons to start unpacking them while I still have that hole in my wall. I'm dipping in and out of this Rick Riordan Presents collection called The Cursed Carnival, but it's my current work book.

Currently Consuming:

I have a bunch of leftover pumpkin pie and I just had a huge slice of that along with some tea called 'Cold Comfort'.

Currently Craving:

A yule log. One of those fancy chocolate swirled sponges with cream in the middle and fancy decorations that is actually made well and that I don't have to attempt to bake myself.

Or a whole bunch of different fancy eclairs. I want to try all the eclairs.

(Yes. I am watching baking shows I want all the things.)
