Note
wanna ask for any recommendations for dramas (country no matter) where a deity/god/angel/demon/higher power of some sort (not fairytale beings like mermaids) falls in love with a human. like doom at your service or bride of habaek. higher power doesn't have to be ML but preferably so
Oooh I love when a god/deity falls in love with a human!
K-Dramas where a God/Diety/Angel Falls for a human:
Hwayugi/ Korean Odyssey: A monkey god falls in love with a human who can see spirits. It's got a great enemies to lovers plot and the side characters are great! While not perfect, it's very funny and also has amazing romance.
Angel's Last Mission: Love: I'm a sucker for this romance about a blind ballet dancer and an angel that fall in love. Shin Hye Sun is everything in this drama (fun fact: registration for ballet classes went up while this was airing). Also L is very sweet and you'll totally root for them (even if it gets a little wonky toward the end)
Tumblr media
My Love From The Stars: This super popular romance about an Alien that falls for a human isn't exactly a deity but his abilities are basically the same and it feels like the same dynamic.
Goblin: One of the most popular k-dramas of all time, this romance between a god and a human is iconic. Perfect? NOPE. Did I watch it 3 times? YUP!
Hotel Del Luna: This fantasy drama is about a 1300 year old owner of a guest house running a hotel for departed souls on their way to the afterlife. I was not into this drama as much as everyone else (I didn't ship the ship!) but it is very beautiful!
Kiss Goblin: A short web drama about a goblin who wants to become human. Silly and sweet, featuring my web drama bb In Hyuk before he got major roles!
Do Gumiho's count? They are nine tailed fox spirits so if they do...
My Roommate Is a Gumiho: Super cute rom com about a gumiho and a college student living together. I LOVED the second couple so much in this!
Tumblr media
Tale of the Nine Tailed: features gumiho (s) or nine tailed foxes that fall for a human. If you liked it, there's a season two, tho the romance IS with a mermaid so it's not specifically what you're asking for.
My Girlfriend Is a Gumiho: While very popular, I'll admit I haven't watched this yet! I just know it's a rom com with Lee Seungi
And of course Doom at your Service, and Bride of Haebak (which I do not recommend lol!)
Enjoy anon!

Short Kdramas/Drama Special/Web Drama
Part 2
These short kdramas fit in nicely when my drama capacity is challenging. Since some of you may experience a similar drama challenge, I thought I'd share these kdramas with you.
Part 1 here
Check Out The Event
Tumblr media
Ha Song Yi (Bang Min Ah) and Park Do Kyum (Kwon Hwa Woon) broke up after five years of dating. It wasn't what she wanted, but he is determined and doesn't intend to explain his reasons very well. Meanwhile, Song Yi ends up winning a promotion that the two signed up for together while they were dating, worth an all-expenses-paid trip to Jeju Island. Not to miss the opportunity, she asks Do Kyum to accompany her, and, surprisingly, he accepts.
This is a short drama, with only four episodes and wonderful cinematography. A melodrama with a touch of comedy. All this with the beautiful landscapes of Jeju in the background.
It tries to pass on an interesting message, especially with regard to communication in relationships.
You Drive me Crazy
Tumblr media
Eun-Sung (Lee Yoo-Young) works as a French interpreter. She is friends with Rae-Wan (Kim Sun-Ho). They have been friends for 8 years, since they were both college students. One night they sleep together and their relationship is never the same again.
It is a short and amazing drama. In my opinion, what made this simple story so beautiful is the impeccable chemistry between the protagonists. I know it's a pretty beaten plot, friends/lovers, but what's different about this one is that the protagonist is very unpredictable and conquers in a unique way. It's really funny to watch their relationship develop. She really drives him crazy.
One of my favourite short stories.
Page Turner
Tumblr media
It is a three-part KBS Drama Special starring Kim So-hyun, Ji Soo and Shin Jae-ha. It tells the story of a piano prodigy Yoon Yoo-seul who goes blind after a car accident, and struggles to get her life back together with the help of Jung Cha-sik, an aspiring pianist and Seo Jin-mok, her former rival who later becomes a supporter.
This one is so good too. Again, I feel like watching more episodes because we need more time with them. I wanted to know more about their dreams and their achievements. And that's the only cons of this drama.
Quick shout out for the mums. Yoo Seul’s mom (Ye Ji Won) and Cha Sik’s mom (Hwang Young Hee). I loved them.
The Taste of Curry
Tumblr media
Another KBS Drama Special. The curry restaurant "Cat's Restaurant" is run by Yu-Mi (Jeon Hye-Bin). She doesn't have many customers and one day, the restaurant is vandalized. Yu-Mi knocks down a suspect with her groceries and he passes out. When he wakes up, the guy (Hyun Woo) is unable to remember his own name. Until he regains his memory, the man helps out at Yu-Mi's restaurant.
This drama is about finding mutual healing and is quite sweet and emotional. Hyun Woo is a very charming and talented actor who proves here that he definitely deserves a leading role of his own.
If We Were a Season
Tumblr media
It tells the story of Hye Rim (Chae Soo Bin) and Gi Seok (Jang Dong Yoon) who was born on the same day and grew up together being close friends. Their friendship is genuine and it looks like it will lead into a deeper relationship but then, one day Dong Kyeong (Jung Jin Young) came to their school and shake Hye Rim's world.
At only an hour long, I think this show did a solid job of telling its story. A quick highlight for the positives: Hye Rim and Gi Seok are adorable together. The way they bicker and tease each other and how they care about each other. Jung Jin Young, as the destabilizer of this relationship looks great, with those perfect features and charming smile.
The ending is open-ended and bittersweet but leaves with the hope that there is more to come, that there will be a new beginning.
Individualist Ms. Ji Young
Tumblr media
Yeong has lived her whole life as an individualist. One day, she meets a man who is a totally opposite version of her. He lives for other people. Then these two very different people fall in love.
This is a cute romance between two people of polar opposites who change for the better after they meet. Even though it's only a two hour Show, the development of the story is well accomplished and the characters are very well constructed.
Min Hyo Rin is talented and the role is perfect for her, while Gong Myung...is such a sweet puppy and I can't imagine another actor in the role.
The Hymn of Death
Tumblr media
The Hymn of Death tells the true story of Yun Sim-deok (Shin Hye-sun), Korea's first professional soprano singer, and her romance with playwright Kim U-jin (Lee Jong-suk). There are six half-hour episodes.
I don't really like dramas with unhappy endings but knowing it was a true story and knowing I would get to see two actors I love, I thoroughly enjoyed this drama. And of course Shin Hye-sun and Lee Jong-suk were perfect.
Kiss Goblin
Tumblr media
12 episodes of 15 min. Ban Sook (Bae In Hyuk) is a 160-year-old goblin who wants to become human above all else. But to do so he must assume human form and kiss 10 different women to acquire different emotions.
I mainly got into this show because I liked some gifs I saw and found Bae In Hyuk quite attractive as a goblin. Bansuk is unnatural at first but becomes warmer, sweeter and more dreamy from the sixth episode onwards and I really loved it.
One of my favourite tropes is the forced closeness by living under the same roof, so I was quite pleased when Bansuk started living in Yeon Ah's flat and found the hyper-awareness parts quite delicious.
One Sunny Day
Tumblr media
This drama is 2 hours long and is about Kim Ji-ho (So Ji-sub), a heartbroken man who goes to Jeju Island for work and meets this girl (Kim Ji-won) several times. They both get robbed and have to sleep in the same guest house. While staying on Jeju Island, she heals his broken heart and they fall in love.
It's a very sweet story although simple and restrained but I loved this little drama mainly because it had my beloved So Ji Sub as the lead actor.
Plus it's a drama that shows the wonderful island of Jeju in a way I've never seen it before in any show.
You Are Closer Than I Think
Tumblr media
On their wedding day, a bride leaves a text message to the groom and she goes on their honeymoon alone. The groom tries to find his bride and learns something about her that he never expected. My review here.

Review: Kiss Goblin (2020)
Tumblr media
Region: South Korea
Aprox. Length: 02h:23m:24s (12 eps.)
Viewing Source: Viki
Summary: Ban Sook is a 160-year-old goblin who wants nothing more than to be human. But in order to do so, his mentor the Goblin Queen tells him that he must take human form and kiss humans 10 times. As he is strikingly handsome and possesses otherworldly charm, this initially seems like an easy assignment. However, he soon discovers that the task will be more complicated than first thought. Every time he kisses someone, he develops a new human emotion. And he finds that the more emotions he has, the more complicated the romance game becomes!
Overall Opinion: It’s a little bit of a funny story, how I stumbled upon this little drama. I’d actually been searching for Goblin (The Great and Lonely God) as I’d heard only great things and wanted to start off my dive into Kdramas strong, and instead, when I looked for just Goblin, this was one of the first results. I knew almost immediately that I’d gotten the wrong one about two minutes into the first episode, but it was short enough in runtime and seemed cute from the synopsis, so I figured I’d give it a try and I’m actually quite happy I did. Kiss Goblin is short, sweet, and well-acted. I thoroughly enjoyed this drama and I’d recommend it to anyone who has a spare couple of hours and the urge to watch something light-hearted with a smidge of your typical Kdrama angst. The story beats don’t exactly throw you for any loops and the runtime doesn’t allow for twists and turns, but this show doesn’t need it. That being said, I think that the only place the show falls a bit for me is the fact we don’t have a little more time to linger with our characters. Even one or two more episodes (a total of maybe 20 minutes) would have elevated the story just that little bit more. For me, the highlight of Kiss Goblin is Bae In Hyuk as our titular Goblin. Every time he gains a new emotion is delightful and you really do feel like he’s slowly becoming more and more human as you go along through the story. This show gets a thumbs up from me and I hope you’ll check it out!
Technical Rating:  ★★★★★★★★☆☆
Personal Rating: ★★★★★★★★☆☆
(See under the cut for a deeper analysis of character/plot/technical aspects. Beware of possible spoilers.)
Main Characters:
Ban Sook [Goblin]:
Tumblr media
Bae In Hyuk is the highlight of this show for me. His portrayal of a human-looking creature with little to no human emotion at the start of the show but is slowly gaining the ability to feel is shockingly believable and what kept me super invested in his story. Even before he gains a larger range of motion it’s impressive how Ban Sook as a character is able to translate his struggles and determination to become human while also remaining mostly apathetic outside his goal for the majority of the show when he doesn’t yet have the emotions to telegraph. I enjoy how his motivations play off of our heroine’s current struggle, as she hates humans and how they act based on selfish emotion and he is attempting to become human.
Oh Yeon Ah:
Tumblr media
I actually really like Oh Yeon Ah as a character. A lot of the time in Kdramas I find that if a female lead isn’t a damsel in distress she’s needlessly made to be far too cold, Oh Yeon Ah really hits in the middle. She’s a strong character who has a lot of feelings regarding the situation and people she’s forced to be around. She’s constantly performing the balancing act a lot of us have to, between being polite and standing our grounds when we’re made uncomfortable. The moments where she lets her politeness slip are glorious to watch because she says the things we’re all thinking. Oh Yeon Ah is a genuinely smart character who is interesting and a perfect match in contrast to Ban Sook. She’s someone who is reluctant to interact with humans and he’s trying his best to become one. She’s almost the perfect teacher for him because she’s honest and insightful and he helps her as well since he is naive with his emotions and therefore so open with them she’s able to gain courage from his raw reactions and also grow herself.
Rating: ★★★★☆
Side Characters:
Exorcist:
Tumblr media
My one big complaint with this character is that we really don’t know a lot about him at all except that he’s an exorcist whose entire purpose is to hunt down Goblins attempting to be human. With the flashbacks between him and the Goblin Queen, I’m unsure if it’s meant to imply he has always been this, or if the knowledge of who the Goblin Queen truly was in their past life has affected his reincarnations to make him this way. I think if we’d been given more time to delve into this side character it would have been a bit more interesting. I do like this actor's portrayal, however, especially every time that Oh Yeon Ah jumps to protect the goblin. He so badly wants to kill Ban Sook but can’t and it’s his reactions that bring more humor to the series even if he’s the main antagonist.
Choi Hee Won [Queen Goblin]:
Tumblr media
Any issues I have with Queen Goblin are about the same I have with the Exorcist, however, we do get more screen time with Choi Hee Won and we see her guide and assist Ban Sook through the series giving her a Fairy Godmother feel, even if she’s reluctant and for the most part again Ban Sook attempting to become human. We learn, of course, that this is because she had attempted to do the same and for her, it only lead to heartbreak she can’t escape from. It’s through this, however, that her motivations are clear. I enjoy the little moments she shows up to help and I think, while she’s not a fully fleshed-out character, she’s still interesting. Like with the Exorcists I wish she’d been given a bit more time but liked what we got from her regardless.
Rating: ★★★☆☆
Story/Plot:
There are no twists and turns you don’t see coming in this series, except, perhaps, the connection between the Queen Goblin and the Exorcist, but you aren’t given enough time with them and they don’t really interact together enough for me to consider that a very key point or highlight of the show. It’s more or less something that just adds to their characters without really delving into them. However, as simple as the plot may seem, the execution is where I have the most enjoyment. It helps that I genuinely like the two leads and how they’re presented to us, the audience. The plot doesn’t really take off until the end of episode 3 because that’s when our leads become more intertwined, and I actually think that episode 3 is one of my favorites, at least it’s my favorite kiss that our goblin obtains simply by how he does it. Ban Sook taking the form of his targets lost love leaves a strong impression as at this point he still only have a few human emotions under his belt but is able to show this moment of compassion and kindness even if it’s with the sole purpose of completing his mission. It’s a beautiful scene that I think was handled very well, and then for the emotion he receives to be sadness, immedately breaking down in tears but not understanding why feels poetic.
The story balances funny and meaningful in a way I greatly appreciate, there are no moments where we sink down into sadness completely but it also never feels over the top in silliness either. Another high point for me is the episode involving Oh Yeon Ah’s ex, which had been addressed in a few other scenes up to this episode. It highlights her problem with people and her mistrust of how humans will often hide their emotions. It’s so gratifying to see Ban Sook use his newfound emotion of anger to go off, inadvertently helping Oh Yeon Ah take that last step to get her own closure with her cheating bastard ex. This is where they really become a pair and I love how their relationship develops. It’s clear that Oh Yeon Ah gravitates toward Ban Sook’s open expressions as he gains each new emotion. Of course, this pushes the angst of the show closer and closer to a climax as, well, he’s kissing other girls in order to fulfill his mission.
The revelation that Oh Yeon Ah is his last target is unsurprising, but well earned and gives real stakes to Ban Sooks' mission. Kiss the girl he likes and have the both of them lose their precious memories of one another or go back to the Goblin world and keep them but never be able to see one another again? In the end, it’s Oh Yeon Ah who takes the answer into her own hands, confident in the connection they have with one another. You’re expecting the happy ending but it doesn’t feel overdone or cliche and I’m thankful that they don’t magically seem to get their memories back upon meeting again, and it’s more like their connection, intangible, is what has remained, making their new first meeting romantically charged but in a more subtle way that I really liked.
Rating: ★★★★☆
Technical/Visual Execution:
When I first started watching Kiss Goblin it has the feel of an almost like a high-budget wed show, which I suppose, it is. It’s well shot, the quality is good, and aside from some of the bigger effects in the first episode and anytime we’re in the Goblin world, I didn’t have a problem with any of the visual effects of Goblin magic. When it was used during the emotional transfers I thought it looked very solid. Other than that there are no real dynamic shots or attempts at symbolic filming, but I don’t necessarily think that a show of this size and length really needs to. The only other complaint I might have is again, due to lack of runtime, there are a few scenes that jump around and could have been cleaned up.
Rating: ★★★☆☆

Review: O Beijo do Duende
Tumblr media
Terminei de ver "O Beijo do Duende".
Ahn, foi ontem que eu comecei?
Tumblr media
That's a dorameira's powers, baby.
Tumblr media
Moletom com Estampa - buuuuu
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Então, é isso.
Sayonara!

stop being a goblin and let me kiss you
part 1
˚✧₊⁎ ⁎⁺˳✧༚ ⁎⁺˳✧༚
eddie’s at the diner with steve and robin, after loitering in the store for a couple hours till they could lock up and hang out. he used to go and pretend to look for something to rent but that went away after steve offered to just rent whatever he wanted with their employee discount because quote, ‘then we can just all watch together!’ robin may have clocked him for coming in to ogle steve but eddie likes to ignore that part. so they’re at the diner and it’s a super fun wholesome time had all round, sharing fries and talking about dumb shit.
eddie was sitting across from steve who had ordered a strawberry milkshake like the god damn stereotype he was and eddie was very subtly taking in the view that was steve scooping his whipped cream up using the cherry on top. while also holding the conversation just fine thanks, no drool or little floating hears around his head, no no, just commentary on the state of this diners hash brows compared to one he vaguely remembered having in the spring of 75.
steve eventually stopped with the cream, putting the cherry in his mouth and eddie thought he was scott free from any further torment until steve took the stem out, having tied it in a knot in about three second flat. like it was nothing, like it was easy, simple, a day to day steve harrington move. which eddie supposed it kind of could be considering the guys reputation. but still. fuck!
then like a demon, steve fucking winks at him. fully just sending eddie into orbit. choking on his soda like an idiot.
he’s beet red and he knows it. robin seems none the wiser waxing lyrical about mint chocolate ice cream but eddie honestly thinks she might just be throwing him and bone. gay solidarity or whatever. steve however, must know nothing of gay solidarity because if he did he would not be so homosexual in front of eddies desperate, filthy, virgin eyes.
eddie excuses himself to the bathroom, being his own saving grace for once. just needing a little break from stupid steve and his stupid skilled tongue. definitely ignoring robin slapping steve on the arm and his mirth filled ‘what? what? he liked it bobbie!’
