Green Arrow: Your turn Bats, who are you?
Batman having decided to fuck with him walking up to him cocking his hip putting one hand on his chest and in full Brucie Wayne mode: C’mon Ollie-Dollie you know who I am. We dated 💕
Green Arrow (internally): Modem noise
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Recently revealed identities with Clark and Brucie being at the same party
Brucie: oh howdy 🤠 cowboy, fancy meeting you at this shindig
Clark *flustered* (internally): he can’t be Batman he can’t be Batman he can’t be Batman…
~~~~~~~~~
*Bruce getting a call during a JLA meeting*
Brucie: Oh! hello dear, yes of course I’m coming to your party I’ll see you later 😘
Batman: Our security measures need to be increased due to the number of criminals currently attempting to follow heroes to their base of operations
JLA *experiencing whiplash*: what.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
*undercover Brucie and members of the JLA at a party*
Bruce *pretending to be drunk wandering over to the flash*: excuse moi but can I get your attention for just a momento😊
Flash *completely disconnecting Bruce and bats*: yeah uh sure sir are you alright
Batman *quiet but deep Batman voice*: there’s an assassin in the rafters
The Ultimatum
AN: OK, so I haven’t decided yet so I’ma ask your guys’ opinion. Would You want Diana as a mother figure or as a sister? Tell me what you want cause I’m fine with both. Also, my wifi’s being a little bitch.
Ukr - Father
Jeju - Mother
Italics - they’re speaking in Kryptonese.
Note: Kara’s 16 here, Y/N is 5, and Kal is 2. Also the Kryptonian clothes I was referencing to was taken from here.
1,230+ words
Chapter 2
Masterlist
Kara gasped as she jolted upwards into a sitting position, her heart drumming in her chest, breath labored. She was once again startled by all the sound baring down onto her, and as if that wasn’t hard enough, she could suddenly see through the walls.
When she got her senses back she then took in the room she was in, noticing that she was lying on a bed that smelled faintly like one of the flowers Kori gave her when she last visited Krypton. The next thing she noticed was that there was a man sitting opposite her in the corner of the room.
The man was wearing a suit that somewhat reminded Kara of the clothes they wore on Krypton, albeit less colorful and lacked character. He had dark brunette hair that was gelled away from his face, his face was cleanly shaven, and he had dark eyes that felt like they were piercing through her soul.
“Good, you’re awake” the man spoke, his voice deep. He stared at her, making her feel uncomfortable. But she was an El, and El’s weren’t one to back down so quickly.
“Where am I? Who are you? Where are they?” She asked frantically. When she realized she was speaking in the man’s language and could understand him, she thanked Rao her Ukr thought to initiate the learning program for her.
“Before I answer your questions I need to know who YOU are. You and those kids come out of nowhere, in a pod, those kids babbling on in a strange language none of us can understand, so it’s safe to assume you’re not from around here, are you?” He said, somehow sounding both bored and accusing in his monotonous tone.
“Where are they?” Kara asked firmly, glaring at the man. Just then the door to the room opened revealing a woman.
“Bruce leave the child alone” The woman interrupts as she enters the room. She was tall and a slim yet had a muscular physique, long silky brunette hair, so dark that it was almost black, cascaded down her shoulders, soulful brown eyes that held a gentleness to them. She wore a white button down shirt, the sleeves rolled up to her forearms, black pants and black heels.
“Should I be concerned that every security measure I’ve had so far has been bypassed by you multiple time?” the man, Bruce, said as he glanced at the woman, lacing his fingers together as his elbows were propped up against the arms rests of the chair.
 “Yes, you should look into that, it might become a problem.” the women replied with a teasing smile, her eyes filled with mirth. “I am Diana, princess of Themyscira” she said, finally introducing herself, “and he is Bruce Wayne”
Kara stood and did the traditional Kryptonian greeting for noble houses, placing her hand formed into a fist above the left side of her chest, her left hand behind her back as she bent at the waist to bow slightly, just like her Jeju had taught her. “Greetings princess Diana of Themyscira, I am Kara El, formerly Zor-El, and head of the great and noble house of El. Now if you wouldn’t mind, where are the children?” she said.
“You need not worry Kara El, they are safe with one of our friends J’onn” Diana reassured. “If you would like, I could take you to them.” She offered, Kara gladly accepted and followed her, passing by so many halls it almost felt like a maze.
They arrived in a living room. The walls were a muted shade of dark green, there was a fireplace surrounded by brown leather couches, a white rug on the floor, and pictures hung off the walls. By the couches she saw her cousin and sister, they sat on the rug with a man in his mid-40’s watching them. She immediately ran to them and engulfed both in a hug. Diana and J’onn only smiled at the sight with a scowling Bruce behind them.
“Kara I’m hungry” Y/K/N whined with a pout, Kal agreeing with her as the two of them pulled out the famous puppy dog eyes. Kara smiled fondly at them as she ruffled their hair, earning a few disgruntled yells.
“Kara who are they?” Kal asked, pointing at the, now four, people watching them, with Y/K/N peering at them curiously above Kara’s shoulder. Diana noticed this and smiled at her, giving a small wave, and receiving a shy one in reply.
 “Friends… hopefully” she answered with a sigh as she glanced back at them. “Could we please get food? Kal and Y/K/N are hungry”
“Of course sweetheart, come” Diana said, Kara stood up with Kal in her arms as Y/K/N clung onto her hand. She placed her arm around Kara’s shoulders when she got close enough, which startled the girl, though she found that she didn’t mind and leaned into the comforting touch of the woman as they were lead into the kitchen with Albert and J’onn trailing behind them, Bruce leaving to go to his secret lair.
There they sat on one of the stools by the counter as they waited on Albert, who insisted on doing it, to make them a little snack. The silence was filled with the two children babbling together in Kryptonese.
 “If don’t mind me asking, where did you come from?” J’onn asked, despite already having a clue as to where.
 “A planet called Krypton” she answered, confirming his suspicions.
 “Why are you here now? Are you alone?” Diana asked concerned. So far all she has seen are these 3 children, unless there are more of them.
 “I… Krypton is… gone… everything and everyone-” Kara looked down as she quietly answered, barely audible, with tears forming in her eyes, but the two still heard it. “It exploded”, she said in a broken whisper.
At that Diana and J’onn were stunned. That would have meant that these children would have been alone, the last of their kind. Though they were particularly more concerned about Kara, she would have to be burdened by all the loss, the only one to remember what the essence of what their home truly was, the only one that is left to carry and pass on the legacy of their people. Diana abruptly stood up and pulled the poor girl into her, trapping her in an embrace, Kara reciprocating a few seconds later.
Just then Albert sat down a plate full of pb&j sandwiches, and another filled with cut up fruits. Kal and Y/K/N eagerly devoured the food, making Kara chuckle at their enthusiasm as she took a sandwich for herself.
 A few hours later, when the kids were put down for a nap, Kara was lead down to Bruce’s secret lair, or as Albert jokingly called it, The Bat Cave. Her eyes immediately landed on the pod that she quickly rushed to, though what she wasn’t expecting was to crash straight into the wall, which surprisingly created a crack and a small dent where her body was. Diana quickly rushed over to her and checked over her.
“Are you hurt?” she asked, her hands on Kara’s shoulder.
“Rao… What was that?” Kara asked shocked. “Oh Rao” she breathed out.
“It seems like you have a few tricks up your sleeve, Kara” Diana said with an airy chuckle as Kara tilted her head to one side in confusion.
Summary: Kara and Lena’s daughter (your name will be Lauren in this) has been kidnapped, what they find changes their life and breaks their heart
A/n: Missing Supercorp hours
Warning: Angst & Torture
Supercorp, Lena Luthor x Reader, Kara Danvers x Reader
Word Count: 2077
Two boys — twins with dirty blond hair, greenish blue eyes and defined jaws — walked into the Zor El Luthor Danvers home. The two distinct differences between the two was that Liam wore lead-lined glasses while the younger, Lucas, wore lead-lined contacts courtesy of L-Corp tech.
“Hi mom,” Liam kissed Lena on the check while side hugging her before he moved to the other side of the white marble kitchen island towards the refrigerator.
Lucas followed suit with a bone-crushing hug. Lena goaned, her fragile human body screamed at her to get out of the hug. Lucas released his grip from around his mother and barely dodged Lena’s hand as she swatted at the air.
“I’m making stir-fry, do you want some?” Liam asked with ingredients laid out on the island.
“Yes!”
Liam glared at his brother. “I wasn’t asking you, I was asking mom.”
“It’s okay honey, I don’t have your appetite. Thank god you sister doesn’t have the same appetite as you two and Jeju.” Lena frowned, now that she thought about it she didn’t feel the usual back hug from you when she worked at home. “Where is your little sister?”
“Ren said she was going to Catco, she wanted to show Jeju the photos she took.” Lucas opened the fridge.
“I’m sure Lauren or Jeju would call if something was wrong,” Lena said before a few clicks were heard and the laptop shut. “You boys want to help with dinner?”
“What are we making?” The two asked.
“Irish stew?”
The two boys cheered.
“We’re eating good tonight!”
“At least you boys have a different favorite food from Kara.”
Around three hours later when the stew was finished the balcony door beeped before it opened.
“It smells good in here!” Kara’s suit dematerialized and hugged Lena.
“Hey, where’s Lauren?”
“Is she not home? She left earlier than I did.”
“She’s not home.”
“I’ll call Nia and see if she saw Lauren.”
“I’ll call Lauren.” Lena moved to her phone.
Kara picked up her phone and was about to dial Nia’s number when she put her arms to the side and walked towards the door. The door swung open before you could pull out your key.
“Oh, Jeju look what Aunt Nia and I did.”
Lena pushed past Kara and held you tightly. “Oh, hi!” You equally matched Lena’s strength and hugged her.
No matter how many times Kara saw this, this moment between the mother daughter duo, it never ceases to amaze her that you are a carbon copy of Lena. With the exception of Kara’s ocean blue eye.
“Little Luthor and I were out in the area doing long exposures with dream energy. Must’ve forgotten to call you. See you tomorrow Kara, bye Lena!” Nia dashed off before the could run after her.
“How about you go get changed up and you can show me your long exposure after Irish stew.”
“Okay,” you ran off into your room.
“Are you okay?” Kara wrapped her arms around Lena.
“I’m okay, why wouldn’t I be?”
“Because you have the face you make when me or the boys get hurt from superhero work.”
“You and the boys are bulletproof, Lauren doesn’t have powers. I can’t help but think someone is going to hurt her because she is a Luthor.”
“If she’s anything like a Luthor she is gonna give one hell of a fight.”
~~~~~
“Alex, it was a trap!” Kara’s grunts mixed with the sounds of guns going off in the background. “Don’t send reenforcements, we don’t know how many are there. The place is lined with lead and power dampeners. They knew we were coming.”
“Alex, pull them out!” Lena pleaded.
“It’s not that easy, it’s raining fire everywhere,” Alex braised herself against the D.E.O command center.
“My wife and sons are out there!”
“So is Nia and J’onn!”
“Director Danvers! Dreamer’s and Liam’s commutations went offline.” Brainy stood with his tablet to show Alex and Lena.
There was a brief moment of silence in the D.E.O before Brainy suggested that the Supers fly into the outer atmosphere and fly back down to make a shockwave.
Lucas informed Liam and the three Supers looked at each other before taking off into the sky. The landing’s aftershock threw the enemies off balance. The Luthor-Danvers boys wrapped them with ropes and nets found in a room earlier.
“Where is the alien tech?” Kara asked with her hands on her hip. The two twins stood behind her with matching red and blue suits, and a few other golden strips around their arms.
“There isn’t any.” The leader laughed. “Isn’t it funny how you heroes try to prevent fate from happening. Now everyone in National City will know they can’t mess with fate because no matter how much you heroes try, it wouldn’t be enough!”
Kara rolled her eyes and walked away to inform J’onn and Nia as a D.E.O unit came to detain the villains of the week.
“We will do everything in our effort to stop threats and keep the world safe from the likes of you. We already stopped you.” Lucas smirked.
“But who kept Lauren Luthor safe?” Kara’s head turned towards the laughing maniac.
“How do you know Lauren Luthor!” Kara marched back.
“Careful there Supergirl. You’d want your daughter back in one piece wouldn’t you?” The man smirked before Kara knocked him out with a punch.
Lena stood frozen at the D.E.O, she let out a cry before her knees gave up and she fell to the floor. Brainy had just confirmed that your tracker was untraceable amidst the chaos. Your phone, unavailable.
Liam and Lucas went back to school to see if your friends had seen you, but the last anyone saw of you was when Kara and Lena went to pick up Liam and Lucas. They had thought you left with them but Lena had told you to go back to school.
Kara broke the sound barrier easily, circling the Earth countless times trying to find you. Nia could dream where you were and J’onn couldn’t find your mind.
Lena, poor Lena hasn’t stopped crying. She didn’t feel Alex’s arms around her, she didn’t care for several agents looking at her. She wrapped herself in her arms, looking for a sense of comfort she couldn’t feel.
Liam and Lucas flew in the D.E.O through the balcony. Their eyes swimming in red. They pulled Lena into their arms.
Alex used this opportunity to call Kara back.
“Alex they have my daughter!”
“I know... I want her as badly as you do, but you have circled the Earth 6 times already and your wife and your sons need you right now.”
~~~~~
It had been a month. A month, a week, 10 hours, 18 minutes and 50 seconds. Lena couldn’t helped but count, her mind was left for nothing but finding you. She and Kara both took a break from their respective jobs, spending every waking moment trying to find you.
The twins found it hard to concentrate on school. But they pushed through knowing you would’ve wanted them to.
Your hands were chained above your head, suspended a couple of inches in the air. Your lip had split with a black eye forming. The famous Luthor glare burning holes into the two masked men in the video.
“Here’s the deal, Superwoman reveals her identity to the world and we won’t kill your daughter.”
“Wait Wait this was the whole plan? Beat me up so Superwoman would reveal her identity to the world? What the heck was the point of kidnapping me when you could’ve revealed her secret identity yourself. You’re the one stalking us!”
“Boss should I shut her up?”
“If you need to ask, you already should’ve done it.” The man turned to his henchman, gave him a knife and gestured towards your face.
“You see I just wanted to get you riled up. I knew Superwoman’s identity even when she was Supergirl. And she left me like this,” the man pulled off his mask revealing a familiar face Kara hated her first year as Supergirl, Maxwell Lord.
His face half burnt almost mechanical. No flesh, only bones and nerves.
“Am I supposed to know who you are?” You asked.
“No but your mother knows who I am. Your mom couldn’t save everyone and now she can’t save you. But she can do everything I say or your pretty face would be like mine.”
You moved into the knife that was pushed against on your face. It drew blood as you smirked.
Lord whooped. “You are bad ass! But that will change. I’ll be in touch...Kara.”
Lena rubbed her face in her hands. They’ve gotten nothing from the video. Each day she grew less and less sane, she buried herself in her home lab or in the D.E.O. Falling back to old habits of unhealthy hours and little to no meals.
And if Lena was falling back into old habits, Kara acted like a prisoner from Arkham. She’d pace the rooms blaming herself for what happened to her daughter.
You weren’t kidnapped because you were a Luthor, you were kidnapped because you were a Zor-El Danvers.
Lena’s and Kara’s relationship fell a little on the rocky kryptonite side. Arguments would break, they would even get noise complaints by the neighbors. They both spent late hours of the night on encryption or circling the Earth, the little hours they did sleep was spent on soaking pillows and in each other’s arms.
It wasn’t until a very similar night, both Kara and Lena had just fallen asleep when the D.E.O got a lead. Alex, Lena and Kara were immediately contacted. They all raced to the D.E.O to prepare. Hopefully it was a rescue and not a recovery.
~~~~~
All the men were taking down, Lord dealt with courtesy of Lena punch and Kara holding him down. Alex ordered the D.E.O take the escaped aliens that were working with Max and Max himself back to the D.E.O, escorted by the Super Twins, Dreamer, Brianiac, and Martian Man Hunter.
Lena, Alex and Kara walked towards the last room. Lena had her lip in between her teeth, Alex’s hand shaking as Kara’s heart pounded. With Kara looking back at her wife and sister for extra confidence, the other few times had been the same but now was nerve taking. It was either that you were her or you weren’t and they were too late.
The steel door dragged against the wooden floor. The room was poorly lit with a orange lightbulb in the center of the room. There were torturing tools, some clean, some rusty and some with a thin line of blood. The three froze, there eyes flooded with tears. Lena gasping for air.
A puddle of blood under the body. Wrists red and pale, ankles puffed out like a balloon. Your head hung low. A rib seen on both sides, the sports bra and spanx stained brown and red. Trails of red drop down your body like splatter paint.
Lena cried loudly when she saw your back designed like an old willow tree mixed with black webs. Lena shakingly reached for your face scared that once she touched you you’d crumble into dust. A purple tennis ball on your right eye and the left side of your face heavily scarred.
“Mom,” you whimpered, recognizing the delicate touch.
“I got you. You’re safe now.”
Alex released the chains from your wrists as Kara’s strong arms swaddled you.
“We’re going to take you back to the D.E.O. You’ll be okay.”
Kara took off into sky. Alex broke several speeding laws under Lena’s instructions ‘Any speeding ticket you get I’ll pay off. Just drive!’
~~~~~
Stitches, bandages, casts and wires flooded your body. The room was bright with every Superfriends littered on the floor.
The scene in front of them wasn’t pretty but Lena and Kara preferred this, knowing you were here.
Lena held onto your hand, using her thumb to rub the back.
“Haha! I win!” Lucas threw pieces of Monopoly at his brother.
“Can’t a girl heal in peace?” You grumbled.
Cheers erupted in the room and a groan afterwards. You had made immediate eye contact with Kelly.
She knew that look, it was the look of needing help without wanting to tell anyone else.
SG so far...
Oh wow, I went on a rant here.. Long story short, I wanted to see Lena scream her lungs out too and throw shit around. I wanted to see more of the vampire boi but we all know where that went...
Oh, and epilogues are bad. I dunno how I got that far...
And I love all the “superpoor” memes. Period.
My biggest problem is that everyone seemed to forget about Kara in episode 3. Lena hasn’t said a word, unless you count the quiet “me too” in this episode right after she told Brainy to ‘get it all out’. Did she get hers “out” off-screen?
Lex walks away with everything way too easy, which after reading what other people had to say about the second episode, I have to agree this is very lazy writing. I do think Lena made the right decision leaving the company, and the “superpoor” memes are hilarious but I don’t think she’s a type of person to stay poor for very long.  With all this and the characters they have decided to focus on, new or old, I feel disconnected from most of them. I liked the vampire boi they introduced and this episode was just “oops, he dead”, which brings the question why did he have to be gay? I’m not saying it was a bad choice, I really enjoyed his story in the last episode but this one just pulled the rug under all possible ways his story could have continued. And a part of me is just screaming because we all know mainstream can only have so many gay characters, so getting what we actually want to see seems even further now.  Don’t even get me started on the Martians, I’ve enjoyed J’onn’s story and character since season 1 but this is not even close to what he was back then. Now both of them with M’gann just seem so irrelevant to everything, like they’re just there to fight the rogue phantoms and act as “heroes” without a subtext.  I’ve been binging Flash these past weeks and when he knew he was going to die, he made sure all his Flash fam had a place and purpose after he was gone. Where are these writers and storylines for Supergirl? Why does Supergirl have to be so horrible and cringey to watch? Instead of “hey let’s reset everyone’s personal growth back to square one” they could’ve gone further and developed the characters. I loved the first 3, maybe 4 seasons of Supergirl but after that it has felt like they just gave up.
I’m not even going to explore all the strange plot holes and questions I’ve had, seems like the writers forgot the lore they had already established. I just hope the rest of the season gets someplace better. And I can’t wait to see how they address the whole supercorp issue, they know they have to. I just hope it’s not “kill your gays” situation. I don’t even really watch SPN but sending a man to literal hell after confessing their love to another man, just seems like a huge ‘fuck you’ to all their fans.
All I’m asking from any writers of any show ever, please respect your fans and while you don’t have to do everything they ask, you can’t please everyone. But you can give satisfactory growth, achievement or even an open ending to a character’s arc that leaves the freedom for us fans to decide in our heads where we want that character to go after your show/book/movie saga ends.
Gawd I hate epilogues set to 10-20 years to the future. That’s all. Now someone take away my keyboard.
To be honest I have a headcanon where Lena is like the baby gay and is trying so hard to flirt with Kara aka the oblivious bi mess we all know and love. Then like Lucy and Vasquez in the background and ending up helping the lil' luthor because while it's entertaining it's also mortifying to watch; with a heavy dose of good natured teasing from them towards both Lena and Kara.
“This is getting excruciating,” Vasquez muttered to Lucy, because really, it was.
Lena had been vouched for by a very protective Kara and a very defensive Supergirl and had been screened by a protective (of Kara) J’onn and given the all clear - so she’d been in the DEO about as much as Maggie had been of late.
But at least the older Danvers girl had finally figured out that those butterfly feelings were because she wanted to date Maggie, and when Maggie kissed her back, at least she finally understood that Maggie wanted to date her.
And so, they were dating.
But Kara and Lena?
Good Lord.
Lena was trying her damnedest. Wearing her hair in a high ponytail that made Kara gulp and splutter and go to adjust her glasses even when she wasn’t wearing them as Supergirl.
Leaning over Kara in the lab, Lucy and Vasquez not needing superhearing to know exactly how hard Lena’s heart was pounding as she tried to inch closer to Kara, tried to radiate to Kara that it was okay if Kara leaned in, too, that it was more than okay if Kara leaned in, too.
She was radiating it to everyone. Poor J’onn constantly looked like he had a headache.
Lena was radiating it to everyone, it seemed, but Kara.
Kara, who kept gaping when Lena walked by and then snapping her head into a sharp shake, clearly telling herself that Lena wasn’t into her, that Lena wasn’t even into women, and Kara should just stop being such a bad friend already.
“I dunno, Vasquez,” Lucy shrugged, leaning back and putting her feet up on Winn’s desk, utterly unconcerned that he was trying to use his computer. “It’s kind of… amusing? Does that make me a terrible person?”
“Your utter disregard for my very advanced technology is what makes you a terrible person, Lane,” Winn muttered. Lucy ruffled his hair and begrudgingly took her feet down from his desk. She put them on his lap instead.
“Now you can use your very advanced technology,” she grinned. Winn glared for a moment before shrugging and continuing to program some complicated tech detector that Lucy only vaguely understood but deeply appreciated.
“And it is, by the way,” Winn added, not even needing to look up from his work to hear Lena’s extra breathy laugh at something utterly less than funny Kara had said. “Both excruciating and hilarious. We should do something to help, though. Because poor Lena. I’ve been there. Kara’s not gonna get it until Lena tattoos it onto her forehead.” He furrowed his brow. “You know what. Maybe not even then.”
He turned and sighed, shaking his head affectionately at Kara. “Seriously. You guys need to save Lena from… this. And J’onn. The man looks like he is suffering.”
“I am suffering, Mr. Schott,” J’onn murmured as he walked by behind them. “Don’t you all have things you need to be doing?”
“Like curing your headache? Sir?” Vasquez asked. J’onn covered his face with his hand, knowing when his children had defeated him.
“Sure, Agent Vasquez. By all means, assist Ms. Luthor. Just… just don’t think so loudly about it.”
Lucy kicked her feet off Winn’s lap and snapped to attention with a grin. “Thank you, sir.”
“Good God,” J’onn just muttered as he walked away.
“Anything I can do, Papa Bear?” Winn asked.
“You can never call me that again,” J’onn said, but the smile in his eyes was obvious, and Winn didn’t stop grinning for the rest of the day.
+++
“Um, excuse me, Ms. Luthor. Ma’am. Can I borrow you?”
Lena turned away from Kara with raised eyebrows, raw and hopeless want still frozen in her eyes. “It’s Lena, really. Just Lena. I’d prefer it, truly.”
“Ms. Lena. Ma’am.”
Lena sighed and laughed, putting her hand on Kara’s arm. Lucy and Vasquez watched Kara’s heart beat out of her chest at the contact, and it was all either of them could do to not groan aloud.
“I’ll be back,” Lena told Kara, who looked like she was still trying to remember Earth languages. “Lead the way,” she told Vasquez gamely.
But she and Lucy didn’t lead Lena to the lab. They led her to the armory.
“Does J’onn think I need to learn how to defend myself better?” Lena asked, concern in her voice.
“No, actually, he knows exactly how well you can kick ass,” Lucy smirked, hopping up to sit casually on one of the old targets Winn was reprogramming to move in and out of the visible spectrum.
Vasquez closed the door behind them. “We just needed someplace quiet to talk.’
Lena visibly stiffened. “Have I done something wrong?” Her voice lost all the softness it had been acquiring of late, leaning more toward the stern CEO her mother had trained her to be.
Defense after defense after defense.
Lucy softened and put her hands out to Lena. “No, God, sorry. Listen, I’m a military brat and Vasquez has been a secret agent since birth, I guess we don’t know how to do anything without being…”
“Extra?”
“Terrifying?”
“Extra terrifying?”
“I was going to say suspiciously secretive.”
Lena huffed, but her shoulders relaxed just slightly even as she hugged herself. “Well? What is it, then?”
Lucy Lane was straight - well, not straight, but it was just an expression, after all - out of the JAG Corps, so she didn’t really see much point in indirectness.
“You’re in love with Supergirl. Kara. Everyone knows she’s the same person, it’s not like the glasses exactly do much and it’s not like Alex doesn’t constantly call Supergirl her sister and it’s not like you’re exactly stupid.”
Lena was blinking like her contacts were acting up, and her shoulders were back to being tense.
“I… think she’s still hung up on that first part you said, Luce. The in love part.”
“Yes, I am,” Lena said, barely at a whisper. “I am… I’m not even ou… how did you -”
“Military training.”
“Spy stuff.”
“Also, we have eyes.”
“And ears.”
“And we’ve seen -”
“And heard -”
“You two interact once or twice.”
Lena blinked again. “Do you two ever -”
“Not finish each other’s sentences? Occasionally.”
“Yeah, but you should see my friends Fitz-Simmons, we’re not nearly as bad as they are,” Vasquez shrugged. “But you’re changing the subject, Ms. Luthor. Ms. - Lena. Crap, okay. Lena. You’re changing the subject.”
“I… okay. Well.” Lena’s shoulders were tense again. Very much so. But there was also something that might have been hope with a dash of excitement in her eyes. Like she finally had people to talk to about… all this.
“Well, what if I were?” She lowered her voice. “In love with Kara?”
“Well then,” Lucy smiled from ear to ear, “we’re going to help you, because honey, Kara is not going to pick up on subtle cues.”
“The consummate disaster bisexual.”
“So she is into girls?”
“Oh yeah.”
“Most definitely.”
“100%.”
Lena visibly relaxed - this conversation really seemed to be wreaking havoc on her nervous system - and bit her lip.
“Am I really being that pathetic?”
“Not at all,” Vasquez shook her head. “No, you’re just flirting your ass off. And it’s not bad - your flirting or your ass… um. Respectfully. Ma’am.”
“It’s Lena. And thank you.”
“Lena. You’re not being pathetic. It’s just that Kara…”
“Kara is one of the smartest women I’ve ever met,” Lucy said. “She’s also just as a big of a disaster as her sister.”
“Which means?”
“Which means you need our help.”
Lena sighed, her eyes nothing but vulnerable. “But do you think it even would be worth it? Do you think she even feels… anything for me?”
“Oh, she does,” Lucy nodded, her eyes glistening as plan after plan formed behind them. “She definitely does.”
Two hours later, Lucy leaned back onto the desk Kara was standing at, looking over some surveillance footage with Winn.
Lucy had, over course, fully briefed Winn over comms.
Alex also knew. As did Maggie.
As did J’onn, though much to his dismay, no one had to tell him with their words.
“Hey Kara,” Lucy said, her voice so deliberately casual that Alex rolled her eyes from all the way across the room.
“Oh Rao, what could you possibly want?” Kara asked, because she might be oblivious when people liked her, but she certainly wasn’t stupid.
“Want? Me? I don’t want anything. World peace, maybe. Or, galactic peace, that would be nice.”
“Lucy.”
“Kara.”
“I’m busy. The whole Supergirl thing?”
“Right,” Lucy said, and Winn looked over his shoulder to exchange an exasperated glance with Alex, who was pretending very badly to be looking over a situation report. “That’s actually what I wanted to talk to you about. You’re so busy, all the time now, you know? Big promotion at CatCo, all the chaos here… Have you had any time, you know… for yourself?”
Kara frowned. “You know I do, Lucy. We have game nights once a week, and you know I have sisters’ nights with Alex -”
“I meant sex, Kara.”
“Oh my God.” Winn let his head bang down on his desk and Alex glared at Vasquez like this was all her fault. Lena, per their plan, was nowhere in ear shot.
“Are you making time for sex? Or, dating, if you don’t want to have sex, because that’s, you know, perfectly fine, if you’re not into that. Or either. That’s okay too, but I was just -”
“I am,” Kara grabbed at Lucy’s wrist and lowered it, like the gesture would also lower Lucy’s voice. “Into those things. Sometimes. With the right… person.”
“Okay, cool. And if I thought I found someone right for you… would you… be interested?”
“Are you setting me up, Lucy? Because for a military lawyer turned secret agent, you’re pretty un-subtle.”
Lucy waved her off. “I’m not going for subtly, Kara. You wouldn’t see subtly if it flirted with you right in the face. Which is exactly the problem.”
Kara went to adjust her glasses before realizing they weren’t on. “What are you talking about?”
“Lena,” Alex mouthed from across the room, and Vasquez hit her on the arm before springing to attention and mouthing an apology. Alex grinned, and Vasquez relaxed.
“It’s like when I liked you, Kara, remember?” Winn blurted. “It was years, you know, and you just really… couldn’t tell.”
“Oh, Winn, are you still - I’m so sorry, it -”
“No, no, James and I are doing great. I love you, Kara, but romantically you’re yesterday’s news -”
“And our incestuous dating pool keeps getting more and more mixed,” Lucy grinned, clapping Winn on the shoulder. “You have excellent taste, my friend.”
“As do you,” Winn gave a little bow from his seat.
“Where is this all going?” Kara asked, dropping her voice to Supergirl level, which was when Vasquez happened to be walking by.
“Supergirl. Ma’am. There’s a situation in the lab the requires your attention. Um. Urgently.”
“Smooth,” Alex whispered as Kara nodded efficiently and practically flew down to the lab.
“What’s the situation? Is everything - oh. Oh. This… doesn’t look like the lab.”
Because it really didn’t. Lucy and Vasquez - with more than a little help from Winn and Alex, while Maggie talked Lena through her excitement and terror in the adjacent room, and a bit of help from J’onn, who really just needed his children to stop thinking so loudly about all of this - had transformed the lab into a romantic dinner for two, complete with candles and a couple bottles of wine on ice (including a Kryptonian version for Kara) and a tablecloth Winn had handstitched for his first home date with James.
There were steaming potstickers and pancakes piled high on the table - because it was Kara Danvers, after all, and Lena had insisted on making sure she had her favorite things - and Lucy had insisted right back that Lena was one of them.
Lena had almost believed her when Alex vehemently agreed.
And then there was Lena.
She wasn’t in a lab coat and - thank Rao - she wasn’t in any danger. Well, danger of passing out from excited nerves, maybe, but it wasn’t some type of emergency like Kara had thought.
“We had it redone. Just for the evening. Alex gave her consent, don’t worry.”
Kara didn’t look worried. No, that wasn’t the word.
Because Lena was in this red dress, subtle but tight and Rao, Kara had never… she wasn’t… words.
Words were failing her. Language was eluding her. Breath was completely escaping her.
“Lena, what…”
“I’ve been told that I’ve been too subtle in my attempts to flirt with you. So we decided - I decided - that it was time to just… tell you.” She straightened up, at once the woman her mother had trained her to be and every bit her own person. It was intoxicating. She was intoxicating.
“Tell me?”
“That I want you. Um. To date you. That you’re my best friend and you’re an enormous dork and your body is almost as beautiful as your heart and Maggie says we should kiss the girls we want to kiss and I -”
But Kara was already across the room, her hands were already on Lena’s waist, her forehead already pressed delicately against hers.
“You want me to kiss you?” Kara asked, in the most heady combination of her Supergirl and Kara voice she’d ever found.
“I do,” Lena whispered, so Kara… Kara did.
“Victory is mine!” Lucy made them both jump, until the combined force of Vasquez, Alex, and Winn dragged her away, leaving Kara and Lena to finally… admit some things to each other.
Gotta make a 5x08 post because if I don’t gather all of my thoughts in a single place, it’s absolutely gonna devolve into a series of ‘AND ANOTHER THING!’ posts. XD
Spoilers!
I really do think that they’ve made great strides in balancing all of the stuff that goes into a single episode of Supergirl. But! There are still pacing problems--this episode is pretty darned rushed and nowhere is that more apparent than Alex and Brainy just. Hopping into the Fortress and Kara shaking off hours of Kryptonite exposure like...’business as usual, lads!’
(And I mean...I get it, they had to wrap a lot of stuff up because Crisis but. It’s not like they didn’t know that the first chunk of the season would need to be handled by episode 8. So on the one hand, okay....but on the other hand, ehhhhhh?)
(Also SG did not tie its season in with Crisis the same way Flash and Arrow did, so it’s not as though anything was taking time away from their series regulars/season-long plot.)
Right, so. Kara speeds off to Lena’s secret lair and....
Here’s the part where I admit a couple of things: 1.) I have never liked Lena Luthor. Ever. At all. But, 2.) I’ve disagreed with a lot of the more... intense Lena hate this season. For instance, I actually think it makes sense that for seasons 2-4, Lena doesn’t show a lot of self-awareness, and refuses to change, because you can’t have Lena being like, ‘Whoops, I’m wrong, my bad, sorry,’ and then proceed with a ‘Dark Lena’ plot. So I was like, ‘okay, this season is payoff to something they’ve clearly been building for several seasons...and said payoff is about Lena learning a lesson, and being taken to task for her shady business.’
And perhaps that’s where we’re still headed. BUUUUUUUUUUT:
In the meantime, it’s getting all muddied.
For instance: we get really frustrating moments, like Lena shooting ion canons at Kara, but stopping short of killing her with Kryptonite ones, and Kara being like, ‘I won’t give up on you!’ because WOW, Lena didn’t kill her.
Much friendship. Such love.
(Admission number 3! I rolled my eyes at Lena every time words came out of her mouth because they were all terrible.)
Speaking of eye-rolling! The Malefic interrogation scene!
Lena kept that man AS HER PRISONER but because she didn’t resort to physical violence, and kept him from being physically violent via mind control, we’re meant to believe that she’s still basically Good.
NEVER MIND THE SHADY ETHICS OF CONSENT AND EQUALLY-SHADY EXPERIMENTATION AND, OH YES, THE MIND CONTROL.
‘Well Malefic was a terrorist.’ Except Lena didn’t kidnap him with the intent of saving J’onn, or Kara, or anyone that Malefic was attacking--she kidnapped him with the intent of using his brain for--and I cannot stress this enough--MiND CoNtROL!!!!!
And yes, yes, it’s very in character for Kara to believe in people and hope for the best and think she can save everyone, but at what point does the narrative say, enough is enough? She’s got everything from murder to mind control under her belt and Kara’s over here like, ‘She’s not physically hurting anyone, and she probably got a good reason for it!’
Kara, I love you, but. No.
(Not to mention all of the very uncomfortable stuff happening re: Kara blaming herself and thinking that SHE has to fix someone who has intended to cause and has actually caused her physical harm. Multiple times.)
*takes a deep breath*
*because I’m gonna need air to yell in just a second here*
The hologram scene!
Which is a repeat of Kara apologizing for one past mistake and Lena treating it like it was a pattern, and Kara just. Taking it.
‘You just exposed me to the ugliness of humanity.’
SHUT UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUP
Again I get that it’s extremely in-character for Lena to have zero self-awareness but this kind of stuff doesn’t do her any favors in the sympathy department, because we KNOW that Kara has bent over backwards to support and defend Lena, and Lena’s out here like, ‘You’re the WORST’!
I just wanna laugh in her face, which I don’t think is the response that the show wants.
Up next, the first DEO balcony scene, AKA, my favorite part of the episode.
I’m gonna quote the whole thing, because it’s wonderful:
“Your choice to conceal your identity wasn’t born out of a place of maliciousness. It was born out of love and compassion. And you were just trying to protect your family. And you were trying to protect Lena from people who could use that information to hurt us.”
And then there’s the whole list of all the shady nonsense Lena has pulled and honestly, *chef’s kiss*
And see, here we are, thinking, GOOD, YES, GOOD, at last, a voice of REASON. Now, Kara will learn that while it’s okay to believe that people can change and have hope, she can recognize that it has to be them that wants to change. She can’t do it for them!
Buuuuut then the show is like, ‘well Alex wants to use lethal force and that’s BAD’. Which it is.
So if you’re trying to position Alex as the voice of reason and in the Right, you can’t turn around and say, ‘look at how unreasonable Alex is being right now! Look at how wrong she was!’
It’s incredibly frustrating that the episode lands on the note of: Alex was wrong to think that people can’t change, and Kara was right, so we just have to deal with Lena’s sh*t a bit longer’. Like, Alex lays out all of the very real, very valid reasons for Kara to MAYBE BE UPSET WITH LENA and see that Lena’s just as much in the wrong--if not MORE SO--and the episode doesn’t use that to teach KARA anything new...somehow this turns into ‘teach Alex to BELIEVE IN PEOPLE’S ABILITY TO CHANGE.’
Which would be a fine lesson at any other point but maybe not after repeated attempts to get Lena to surrender and stop her MIND CONTROL PLOT.
Speaking of repeated attempts to reach Lena: I appreciate that J’onn reminds Kara that she already talked to Lena (and tearfully apologized for the...third time? now?) and Lena was just as petty and melodramatic and UNWILLING TO ADMIT TO ANY KIND OF WRONGDOING OR SHOW ANY DESIRE TO CHANGE but again, all of this information is buried in another ‘Kara believes in Lena in spite of all evidence to the contrary and the narrative justifies her blind devotion’ plot.
WE’VE SEEN THIS BEFORE. Specifically, when Lena was like. Framed or whatever but NOW she is, in fact, just as shady as all the evidence suggests AND YET.
AND YET.
‘She’s just hurting, I can still fix this!’
*so many alarm bells ringing, all the red flags flying*
I made this a few weeks ago, and never posted it, because at the time, I didn’t feel like there was enough evidence to support my concerns but:
Tumblr media
Dude as bad as season 2 got, they at least were like, ‘hey, Kara has abandonment issues, let’s unpack that a little’.
All of this? Is simply All About Lena.
(I wanna believe that there’s a little bit of forward movement re: Kara, given that she knows Lena framed Hope/Eve at the end but it’s STILL right there next to, ‘we gotta hope for the best! And save Lena’s soul!’)
NO. YOU. DON’T. LENA HAS TO DO THAT HERSELF.
Like. How can you go through the entirety of season 2, as well as Kara telling Mon-El off in season 3, only to repeat Kara taking responsibility for other people’s crappy choices? HOW ARE WE REGRESSING LIKE THIS. >:C
As for other stuff in this episode: Rama Khan was...there.
I’m glad Mrs. Wheeler is in charge now; I still think the Leviathan stuff is kinda weak overall, but Rama Khan in particular felt very ‘meh.’
(...I think maybe I just don’t like his costume.)
(Also I know they said Mrs. Wheeler’s actual name in this episode but I can’t remember it.)
I liked all of the Andrea stuff!
Like that was genuinely Sad, at the end, when she used the contacts to revisit memories of Russell.
Russell, who appears to be very dead, which I find. Disappointing.
(Side note: Crisis better look stunning because ‘chained to a pile of dirt’ and ‘trapped under a single slab of concrete’ was about the same level of Earthbending FX we saw in the live action Avatar: The Last Airbender movie.)
(So. Not great, Bob.)
Poor Malefic has been sent to Mars, so. Guess we won’t be seeing him any more.
Ahhhh, but then, we have the CRISIS TIE-IN.
Which was pretty chill, actually. All things considered.
‘Good job on reconciling with your brother. Wanna save the multiverse?’
Also YAY, LEX IS BACK--A CLEAR-CUT VILLAIN WHO WE CAN ALL LOVE TO HATE WITHOUT A BUNCH OF PEOPLE JUSTIFYING HIS GARBAGE DECISIONS.
Okay I think I’m done yelling about this one! Can’t wait for the Crisis to come, and maybe erase this tedious arc from all of existence!
Oh crap I just remembered that J’onn and Alex apparently need Lena’s help to save Earth-38...ugh.
Thoughts on Rewatching Supergirl Season 3
While I did watch most of this season, it was kinda where I dropped off of watching the show.  I just to be too busy and some of the story.
I still freaking miss Cat being on the show.  But I love that she became Press Secretary for President Mardin.
Even though I love Adrian Pasdar, I hate Morgan Edge.  He is a mix between Maxwell Lord, Lillian Luthor, and Donald Trump.
Love having more Lena.
I don’t like mopey Kara.  But I get it.  She loved Mon-El, who had to leave Earth in order to live.  But James is right - Kara needs to get her head on straight and not just be Supergirl 24/7.
While I like James being more CatCo-oriented in this season opener, I really miss Snapper Carr.  Especially since Kara just quit.  You know Snapper (and Cat) woud be pissed and disappointed in her because they spent so much time teaching and mentoring her as a CatCo reporter.  I feel like Clark would understand, but still be a bit disappointed.
Glad that Alex called Kara out on her pity party.
Ooh, Kara just foreshadowed the breakup of Alex and Maggie.
Awww, super sweet moment between Alex and J’onn when she asks him to walk her down the aisle in place of her father.  Too bad it never happens.
While I like Erica Durance and loved her Lois on Smallville, I don’t like her Alura.  I am too attached to Laura Benanti.
I love the mother/daughter relationship between Sam and Ruby.
Well, we know why Eve is a big fan of Lena’s.  She’s a member of Team Luthor.
I am glad that Lena bought CatCo, but she and James have an interesting transition ahead of them.
I think the beginning of the end for Maggie and Alex was Maggie’s dad.
I liked meeting J’onn’s father.
I like the girls spending time together: Kara, Lena, Alex, Maggie, and Samantha.
Not as much James and Winn bonding as the last two seasons, which makes me sad.
I hate cult (and religious) storylines.  Ugh, to the Cult of Rao and Thomas Coville.  I like Chad Lowe, though.
I wonder if they will keep Alex’s desire to be a mom for future seasons.
Morgan getting back at Lena by harming children is truly disgusting.
And Mon-El is back... from the future!  Yeah, like we didn’t know that was going to happen.  But couldn’t they have waited a season or two to bring him back and do the Legion story?
Mixed feelings on “Crisis on Earth-X”.  Nazis are overdone, though can be relective of the time.  Earth-X Oliver & Kara = ewwww.  Oversaturation of main Arrowverse characters in the Supergirl episode.  Yeah, I know I complained that there wasn’t even crossover last season.  Not enough Winn, or I should say Earth-38 Winn.
Alex and Sara are a pretty hot couple.  Too bad they were only a drunken hookup at a universe-crossing wedding.
I love Kara and Barry’s friendship.  They understand each other’s problems, both of the superhero nature and the strains of relationships.
I love General Winn Schott of Earth-X
I like Ray Terrill aka The Ray, but wasn’t a fan of his CW Seed animated series.
Supergirl in distress during this crossover was a bore, but I liked Alex having a leading role in The Flash part of the crossover.
The most interesting thing about Overgirl is her dying of a solar radiation meltdown.
Imra Ardeen, Saturn Girl, is pretty and nice, but why bring her in when she is treated as a disposable wife to Mon-El, who isn’t even her canon love interest?
J’onn’s father is the most adorable man, er, Martian.
Still feel like James and Lena came out of nowhere.  Still missing James and Kara’s squandered potential.
Brainiac 5 seems endearing, but I feel like the costume/makeup is a bit off.  I felt like Seasons 1′s Indigo fka Brainiac 8 looked better.
I love it when there is an all-girl team episode in almost episode in almost any show.  So, naturally I liked Saturn Girl and villainesses Livewire and Psi joining up with Supergirl to fight Reign.
I hated losing Leslie aka Livewire.  She was so much fun.
I hope to see Psi again.
Umm, I don’t remember this karaoke scene... wow...
Aww, poor Winn.  His dad was a bad guy, but he did love his son, in his own way.
And so we meet Winn’s mom.
Yeah, I would say that he wanted to go out with a bang.
M’yrnn J’onzz having the Martian equivalent of dementia is the saddest story of the season.
Oh, God.  Mon-El cannot sing.  At all.
I love the new, or rather revised, costume Mon-El wears.  Very comic-accurate.
Honestly, not too interested in the other Worldkillers.
My poor Winn.
I like the conversations between Sam and Reign inside Sam’s head while Lena is trying to help her.
I like Brainy with the image inducer.
And I guess this is where we start to see a division between Kara/Supergirl and Lena.
Yay, Winn made Alex a battlesuit with modified weapons!  I love when the techies upgrade the heroes.
Ha, I love Lena showing up Brainy on the Legion ship.
While I didn’t care much for the Worldkillers story, what was the purpose in having two more along with Reign if you weren’t going to utilize them?
I will say that I like that Julia overcame the Purity personality and killed Pestilence before succumbing to her injuries.
I like that James tells Lena the truth about him being Guardian and that he broke into her lab to make sure there wasn’t anymore kryptonite.  And Lena admitting that she made the kryptonite.  Being honest and trusting others goes along way.  Something that Kara still needs to learn.
Brainy and Winn’s “goodbye” is awkward and funny.
I feel bad for Imra.  Yeah, she helped save Kara and the people of National City.  Yeah, her sister is alive now because Pestilence is dead and can’t become Blight now.  But still the Mon-El/Kara awkward relationship rears its ugly head.  Imra is too nice and cool to be forced onto the sidelines.
I’m surprised that they brought back Sam’s adoptive mother.  Not surprised that she was killed by Reign.
And James gets outed as a hero/vigilante.
While I like Alex and Ruby spending time together both before and after the Sam/Reign secret was out, I feel it just hurts Alex more.  She gets to play mom to this girl who is soon out of her life and then Alex doesn’t seem to be any closer to finding love after Maggie or a new chance at motherhood.
Argo City!  Alura is alive.  Mother/daughter reunion.
Nice going, Winn.  Make the near-orphan feel worse because you are stressed.  She has it worse, honey.  Your late father was a minor supervillain in comparison to what is a part of her mother.
I love the mentions of Astra and Non when Kara brings her mother up to speed.  It’s also nice to hear Alura say that she was wrong in some of her decisions regarding Fort Rozz and Krypton.
While I understand Kara’s wish to go live in Argo, it would have been way too easy.  Plus,
Poor James and Winn.  Bored with slow days of patroling.
I like that they are bringing up the gun debate.
Wow, it astounds that Eve is more than the blonde secretary stereotype.
I wasn’t surprised by Selena being the leader of the Kryptonian witch cult.  We had already seen visions of the priestess.
How could they not see it was a damn trap?  Kara spent years on Earth.  She should be genre savvy enough to know when the Big Bad speechifies about their plan, it means they are trying to kill the heroes.  Duh.  She should have known before then.
While I like Brainiac 5 and I understand why he can’t go back to the future, I hate that Winn is being sent in his place.  I am so going to miss Winn and looking at Jeremy Jordan.
Alex asking herself the hard, very real questions.
For a season-ending battle, it was pretty good.  I do like that Kara tried to stick to her morals.
Glad that Sam will be okay.
Sad to lose J’onn’s father.
I’m not surprised that Alex is being made the Director of the DEO.  It has been hinted at since Season 1.
I like Alura’s fight suit.
This sweet, sad goodbye.
Mon-El will have his hands full with Winn.
Not sure how I feel about J’onn leaving the DEO.
Oh, Lena.  What have you gotten yourself into?
And the Season 4 tease is a Kara clone(?) in Siberia.
So glad that I finally finished that season.  Because I totally missed those last few episodes.
Batman and the JL: JL Christmas Party at Wayne Manor (aka 4am Fast Food pt. 2)
           Alfred pulled the turkey from the oven. He breathed in the fresh scent sighing in satisfaction. Before placing the tray on the stove, the front door rang. Taking off the oven mittens he hastened to the door.
           “Heya Jeeves!” Wally West stood outside tightly wrapped in a large coat and holding several pies. “Am I late?” He asked allowing himself in.
           “On the contrary, you are early.”
           “Woah, that never happens.” The red head laughed looking around for the kitchen. Alfred shut the door, keeping the December air out of the house, and ushered his guest to the living room. “So, where’s Bruce?” Wally inquired handing off his coat.
           “Master Bruce is currently on patrol but will return shortly.” Alfred took the pies heading towards the kitchen. “Dinner will be served once everyone arrives.”
           “Man, I’m so hungry I could eat a buffalo.” The front door rang again. “I’ll get it!” Wally rushed back swinging the large oak open to reveal Clark, Diana, and J’onn.
           “Merry Christmas!” Clark beamed. The three of them trudged in carrying several bags and platters of food.
           “Happy holidays Wally.” Diana undid her coat placing it on the rack with the rest of theirs. She gazed passed him frowning. “Where’s Bruce?”
           “Master Bruce is currently on patrol.” Alfred suddenly appeared making Wally jump. He took the bags and the pie in Clark’s hand.
           “It’s ma’s pie!” Clark exclaimed. “And here, let me take some of that.” He followed Alfred back to the kitchen. Diana, J’onn, and Wally made their way to the lounge settling in the cushions. They sat there in silence, feeling very awkward. Diana swore she saw Wally speed around the house several times but continued twiddling her thumbs.
           “Is it not customary-” J’onn suddenly spoke up. “-for the host to be present when his guests arrive?” Wally laughed at that.
           “It is, but we’re talking about Bats here.”
           “I do wish he could take one night of rest.” Diana sighed
           “Yeah well, he better get here soon, I’m starving!” The speedster flumped down on the couch beside her with a huff. Diana smiled sympathetically towards him.
           “Perhaps we should help the process further and head to the kitchen?” J’onn suggested.
           “Hey everyone!” Clark’s voice abruptly hollered from the hall. “I hear the car coming in from the cave. He’s here so we can eat!” Wally hadn’t run that fast in a very long time.
           Bruce laid another sample on the flask peering into the microscope. Coming out of the car he hadn’t bothered to remove the cowl and immediately set to work. Bruce had been working tirelessly for the past three weeks to get this sample and a new burst of determination bubbled up inside. Setting a new flask in, footsteps could be heard coming near.
           “What is it Alfred?” Bruce deadpanned, still gazing into the microscope.
           “Sir, your guests have arrived and are patiently awaiting your presence.” There was a hint of condescendence which made Bruce look up. What did he forget now?
           “Guests? I don’t recall inviting anyone…”
           “Your Christmas Eve party sir, with the founding members of the Justice League.” Alfred informed with a cock of his head. Bruce inwardly groaned.
           “I don’t have time right now.”
           “Sir, I insist that you head upstairs and be courteous to your guests.”
           “Alfred, I’m busy.” Bruce exhaled. “Can’t Dick entertain them?” Alfred erected himself raising an eyebrow at that.
           “Master Richard is out with miss Gordon as he will be unable to tomorrow since we are having Christmas with the entire family. These are your guests and friends whom you invited for today.” Bruce jabbed a finger at him.
           “I did NOT invite them over! You and slap happy Clark planned this while Diana practically had me pinned down. Now I have work to do and it cannot wait.” Bruce grew more serious. “I got a sample of the toxin.” Alfred’s eyes widened slightly.
           “Oh my.”
           “Yes.” Bruce turned back to the glass vials. “I finally acquired Sanders’ poison. I need to find a cure before she infects more people. I’m waiting for the results right now.”
           “As you wait, perhaps you could grace your associates with your presence.”
           “Alfred-”
           “A half hour, sir.” The two men stared at each other, a battle of wills. Bruce glared daggers into the old man. Alfred was giving him the look, one he has so far not been able to beat. With a sigh, Bruce removed his cowl and headed towards the changing room.
           “I’ll be up in five minutes.”
           “Very good sir.”
           When Bruce finally came up, having changed into a t-shirt and cargo pants, Shayera and John had just arrived. Wally practically forced them in their seats and seemed ready to throttle Clark for demanding to say grace before digging in. Bruce grimaced at the display of food. There were at least ten pies, several unidentifiable casseroles, pork, turkey, all forms of potatoes, a couple cakes, and many more sugar infested delicacies. He couldn’t eat most of it, not if he wanted to double his workout for the next week. He observed the rest of the guests and their lack of needing a restraint. Clark had a moderate portion, far less than he could handle, Wally had half his food stuffed in his mouth while simultaneously pouring more onto his plate. Bruce sighed, thankful that the others brought meals. Poor Alfred. At the far end of the table John and Shayera were flirting again, and that’s when he noticed Diana had been placed next to his spot. Nice try Alfred. J’onn ate very little more interested in his conversation with Clark. They were discussing tomorrow’s plans for Christmas. Bruce sighed again. These were all his friends, perhaps his only ones besides Jim. He could take a half hour off for them. A smile tugged at his mouth, resigning his fate to the party.
           “Diana, would you please pass the salad and the Greek dressing?” She beamed back at him.
           “Here you are.”
           “Thank y-” The bowl clattered on the table the moment he grasped it. Salad splattered across spreading all the way to Clark on Diana’s right. The room went silent, all staring at Bruce. He glared at them and began to pick up the pieces along with the sudden appearance of Alfred.
           “Sorry Bruce.” Diana whispered as everyone picked up their conversations again.
           “It’s all right.” He finished retrieving the last piece.
           “I will be back with more.” Alfred informed and promptly disappeared. Bruce nodded to him and reached for his glass. The way his hands shook did not escape him. Bruce flexed his other hand under the table. His muscles were stiff and achy. The past couple of days must have caught up to him making it act quicker. He growled to himself, taking a sip. He saw Clark eyeing him, a look of concern. Bruce mouthed I’m fine to only have the Kryptonian roll his eyes.
           “So, presents or a game?” Wally jumped up. They had finished eating and were now sitting in the main room. The speedster pulled several board games out of his bag handing them to Clark.
           “Oh!” Diana exclaimed. “I have heard of Scattergories, it sounds like fun.” She pulled it from Wally’s hand looking it over.
           “I’m in.” Clark nodded towards the box. J’onn, John and Shayera agreed as well. “You playing Bruce?” He turned to the billionaire. Bruce was slumped in a leather chair by the gigantic glittering tree.
           “I don’t play games.” He huffed.
           “You play chess with me.” Shayera smirked.
           “Chess is a strategic and mind building tool. I play enough games with the Riddler and Joker as it is, I don’t need another.”
           “Fine, suit yourself.” Wally shrugged, helping Diana unpack the box. Bruce sunk more into the chair. He hadn’t been feeling good since dinner and the constant noise was stabbing his head forming a headache. The chair felt amazing as his energy seemed to drain with every moment. His head swam. It felt heavy as he leaned against his hand on the armrest. Bruce checked his watch grimacing at the time. An hour over what he promised Alfred, but he just couldn’t will himself out of the chair just yet. Clark had asked him if he was all right several times and received a plate in the face when he tried to x-ray him. He was such a worry wort.
           “Yes! More food!” Wally cried. Alfred walked in with a tray of snacks placing it on the coffee table. Half of it was gone by the time anyone else got to it. Wally only stopped because of John’s glare.
           “Bruce, would you like some?” Diana inquired. Bruce stared off out the window, he couldn’t look at it, feeling nauseous.
           “No.”
           “Bruce, you hardly ate anything at the dinner.” Diana frowned, becoming concerned.
           “Are you sure you’re all right?” Clark joined in. Bruce clenched his jaw, this was getting annoying. He needed to keep up appearances, but their constant asking was really irritating.
           “I’m fine! See!” He grabbed some sort of pork and onion from the tray and plopped it in his mouth. He immediately regretted it. Nearly gagging, Bruce ran to the nearest trash and let it go. He heaved losing his lunch from earlier, but even when it ran out it didn’t stop. The convulses continued making him cough occasionally. He dry heaved until his throat hurt and sweat coated his face. A hand was on his back, rubbing circles. Clark’s soothing voice spewed comforting words. After what felt like an eternity, Bruce sat back on his knees gasping. Clark continued rubbing circles until he caught his breath again.
           “I’m okay.” Bruce rasped.
           “Looks like it.” sarcasm dripping from Clark’s voice. Bruce turned up to see Alfred coming towards them. They were the only ones in the hallway, the others giving the dark crusader is privacy.
           “Master Bruce, are you all right?” Master Bruce was getting really annoyed with people asking that.
           “You have a fever.” Clark frowned feeling his head. “Did you catch the flu?” Bruce swatted his hand away dismissing both their concerns and stood up. At least he tried to. Bruce’s shaky legs immediately collapsed under him and he grasped the trashcan for support. His headache was turning into a migraine and his chest burned. It had begun.
           “I need to get to the cave…” Bruce rasped starting a new fit of coughing.
           “I think you mean upstairs to bed.” Clark chided. Bruce ignored him, attempting to get up and succeeded, even if he was leaning on the wall.
           “Master Bruce, now is not the time to be stubborn. Healing requires rest.” Alfred held one of his arms urging him towards the stairs. The billionaire resisted forcing his way to the clock. He returned to the living room full of leaguers who all watched on in concern. Growling at their looks, he turned the clock hands opening the secret door. Bruce’s chest suddenly flared up like it was on fire. He grasped it with a groan falling to the floor again.
           “Bruce!” Diana cried, catching him before he hit the floor. The rest gathered around in distress. “Bruce, what’s wrong? Are you sick?”
           “I…need to get, to get to the cave…” He began to cough again, clutching his burning ribs. Diana bit her lip trying to decide what to do. She stopped suddenly reaching for his neck.
           “Bruce, what’s that?” In place of his veins were a purple venomous color snaking up his body. She noticed that they had curved down his left arm more numerous and black in color.
           “No!” They all swiveled around meeting a distressed Alfred. “You bloody idiot! You did not, did you?!”
           “It…it was the only way…” Bruce murmured, still clutching his chest. He eyed his butler daring him to argue.
           “What did he do? What on earth is going on?!” Wally burst out.
           “Bring him downstairs post haste!” Alfred commanded motioning Diana towards the clock entrance. Without question she picked up Bruce and flew down in a blur.
           “Alfred, what’s going on?” Clark calmly asked. Alfred huffed setting towards the stairway down.
           “I will explain in the cave.”
           Diana gently placed the dark knight down in the medical bay. The coughing had returned, and he squeezed his eyes shut clutching his chest. His face was so stricken in pain that tears were streaming down his face. Diana tried to remain calm, but she didn’t know how long for. Bruce was in pain, a lot of it. She rubbed his back whispering that it was okay, but a lump settled making it harder. Alfred suddenly appeared with the rest of the league at his heels. They crowded around the still hacking vigilante growing increasingly worried. The purple veins had reached his jawline.
           “Listen.” Alfred demanded. “I am sure master Bruce was planning on being more coherent for this segment, but that does not seem to be the case at this moment. I will need your help.” The butler revealed no emotion on his face, but Diana was certain she heard a tint of irritation in his voice. “For the past three weeks a serial killer known as Jessica Sanders has been spreading a toxin all around Gotham. The poison has no known cure and leaves no traces after death. Master Bruce has…has, well, injected himself with the toxin in hopes to procure a cure for the next victims.” Alfred faltered clenching his fist. “This is beyond my medical experience, if you all wo-”
           “Way ahead of you Jeeves!” Wally hollered from beyond in the lab room. J’onn moved towards the now limp form of Bruce, eyes glowing.
           “I know Batman will not appreciate me entering his mind, even for his information on the toxin.”
           “But he was being an idiot anyway.” Clark smirked, eyes turning to x-ray. Diana placed a hand on the butler’s shoulder.
           “We’ll save him Alfred, I promise.” Wally zipped by them, taking a syringe, and drawing blood from the patient.
           “Only bats would poison himself to get out of a Christmas party.”
Cry for Help
Kara really wants to punch Ben Lockwood in his obnoxiously smug face. If she wasn’t in this interrogation room with Colonel Haley, Kara is sure she would have done so by now.
“One benefit of being in here is getting to talk to the Children of Liberty that were on Shelley Island,” Ben says casually as if he’s telling a story instead of being interrogated by an irate Supergirl. “I learned something interesting from them. When your powers didn’t work like you expected, you called for help. Or rather, you called out for someone, one person in particular. ‘Alex! Alex!’” he says in a poor imitation of her voice. “It didn’t take very long to track down who this ‘Alex’ is: Alexandra Danvers.”
Kara clenches her fists, fights to keep her hands by her side. It feels like a battle she’s going to lose.
“Your instinctive cry for help,” Lockwood continues on, “is her name. I imagine some people thought it would be interesting to see how you’d cope without her.”
In less than a millisecond, Kara breaks through Lockwood’s cuffs, wraps a hand around his throat, and slams him into the wall. She tightens the hand around his throat as she lifts her other hand to hit him.
"Supergirl!”
Kara feels Colonel Haley tugging at her, trying futilely to pull her away. She glares at Lockwood, takes in the way he gasps for air, and lifts him higher.
Before dropping him on the floor.
He's more useful alive than dead.
“Outside,” comes Colonel Haley’s stern command. “Now.”
After they step out of the room, Colonel Haley says, “You need to keep it together.”
“You don’t understand,” Kara says, wishing desperately that J’onn were here instead.
“I understand that you abusing human prisoners with your powers, especially Ben Lockwood, is a bad idea.”
“He hurt Alex.”
“He’s been in prison.”
“He’s still responsible.”
Understanding dawns on Colonel Haley’s face. “Are you punishing him because you think he’s responsible or because you think you are?”
Kara falls back against a wall and hangs her head. “I’ve been turning Alex’s life upside down since the moment I walked into it. You know, I was on another Earth a couple weeks ago. Their reality was being re-written. At one point, I was being held prisoner, and Alex was there, that Earth’s Alex. She was working for the man behind it all. I called her by name. And you know what he said?”
Kara looks up to see if Colonel Haley has any guesses, but she just looks confused. She probably doesn’t know anything about alternate realities and re-written timelines. Kara lets her chin drop back down to her chest.
“He said,” Kara continues, “that if I tried anything, he’d kill her. All because I knew her name, because I recognized her.”
“I think there’s more to it than that,” Colonel Haley says, and once again Kara looks up, this time looking for answers. “It’s the way you say her name. She obviously means a lot to you.”
Kara nods. “I need to fix it,” she says.
Colonel Haley looks at her watch. “I think you need to go sit with Danvers.”
“I can’t,” Kara says. “I can’t sit by and do nothing."
She’s already done that once: sat in her pod and watched helplessly as her planet exploded. She can’t do that again. Kara can’t just sit in the room with Alex and watch helplessly if Alex dies. At least out here, she can track down the people that hurt Alex, make sure that they never do it again.
Because Alex is going to live.
She has to.
She has to.
She has to.
Otherwise it’s all Kara’s fault.
Suddenly it feels like the hallway is getting smaller and smaller, and Kara can’t breathe.
“Supergirl!” Kara hears, and she realizes she’s on the floor.
“Come on, Supergirl,” Colonel Haley says. “Breathe with me.”
With some time and Colonel Haley’s guidance, Kara’s breathing returns to normal, and she pulls away, embarrassed by what happened and uncomfortable with their proximity.
Thankfully Colonel Haley doesn’t make a big deal of it. She gives Kara a moment before asking, “You ready to go back in there?”
Kara closes her eyes, composes herself, and looks at Colonel Haley with determination.
“Let’s do it.”
Winndox + “You my die doing this, let me grab my camera.”
After his goodbyeparty, Winn just wants to get on with it.
He wants to leavealready, maybe try on one of the Legion uniforms and figure out all the ways hecould redesign them to look better. Maybe do some soul-searching and come toterms with the fact that maybe, just maybe, he has a death wish because he justvolunteered to go to the future and do battle with yet another Brainiac. Maybehe’ll just collapse on his (Brainy’s, but it’ll be his soon) bed in the Legionship and cry for a few hours. Or a few hundred years, he doesn’t know exactlyhow time travel works.
Whatever he’sgoing to end up doing, he wants to do it soon, because he can’t stand thesuspense- he is seeing the future, literally. It’s something he could bragabout, if he had any friends outside of work, and if he hadn’t signed the DEO’snon-disclosure agreements. So he’s just going to keep it to himself, no bigdeal.
(They’re probablygoing to wipe his mind at the end, though, Men-in-Black style. Then he doesn’tknow where he’s going to be or what he’ll be doing, but at least he won’t causea time paradox, and that would be good enough for the Legion.
He hopes they’llbe nice enough to at least leave him in his room, when that happens, or leavehim with a souvenir. Or let him keep some of his memories. Or…)
(God, he hasn’teven thought about any of the Legionnaires yet. People Mon-El and Imra andBrainy have led, people they trust, who trust them. Their friends. How are theygoing to react to him replacing Brainy?
The phrase “poorman’s substitute” is coming to his head, and he hates it, mostly because it’sright. But while he’s still in the present, saying goodbye to his own friendsfor now, there’s still one thing he hasn’t done yet.)
“Hey, James.” He says.“Can you take a picture?”
“Sure, man. Ofwhat?”
“I want a groupphoto. Of all of us. I…”
Winn pauses. Hecan’t cry right now, not here… he forces the tears away, and speaks again. “Imight die doing this. It might be my last chance- so, who knows? But I want youguys to be the last thing I see, if that happens.”
James claps him onthe shoulder, smiling.
“Just let me grabmy camera.” He says, and before he knows it everyone’s clustered in front ofthe DEO computers, J’onn standing beside him on one side, with Brainy, Kara,and Alex on the other. James sets up the camera on a timer, before moving tostand beside J’onn, and beside Winn himself, Brainy’s suddenly holding his handas the timer ticks down.
“Thank you.” He says,before everyone throws on smiles. “You are very brave.”
That’s the highest compliment I’ve ever receivedfrom you, Winn almostsays, awed. But why leave their rivalry- what could’ve been a friendship,maybe- on a low note like that?
“So are you.” He saysinstead, after the picture’s taken and everyone disperses. “Thanks for holding down the fort here, in my place.”
“You do not holddown a fort, it is not made of balloons- and the DEO is not a fort-“
Winn laughs, andthis time, he goes in for a hug. But it’s not so much awkward as it is hopeful.Still a work in progress, but with room for improvement.
Like their relationship,really, even if Winn would rather eat future dirt than admit it to Brainy’s face.
“Bye, Brainy.”Winn says, picking up his bags. “Good luck.”
“Farewell,Winslow.” Brainy answers, in turn, before heading back inside. “Godspeed.”
Winn rolls his eyes as he walks away, but the tonein Brainy’s voice says that he really, truly means it, and he thinks:
Maybe we’ve made more progress than Ithought.
Young Justice: Welcome To Happy Harbor, Drop-Zone, What’s The Story
Tumblr media
Warning, Spoilers Ahead…
 Episode 3: “Welcome To Happy Harbor”
The episode begins with Speedy interrupting one of Brick’s shipments.  Robin, Kid Flash, and Aqualad soon join the party.
Brick gets cocky and pays for it.  I’d completely forgotten about Brick’s appearance in this episode.  We see Brick in the trailer for the third season.  I bet he appears in Arrowette’s origin/recruitment episode.  It would be a nice callback to the first season.
The boys attempt to recruit Speedy to the team but he’s a manly man who doesn’t need to be part of a team.
“Recognized Robin B-01, Kid Flash B-03”
You know Batman programmed the codes and was all “Robin will be the first”.  It’s also a nice nod to Robin’s status as the first sidekick.
“Mission assignments are the Batman’s responsibility.” – Yep, poor Red is the one who has to reign in their shenanigans.  This Red doesn’t know how easy he has it – there should be a crossover between the Red of the cartoon universe and the Red of the comic book universe.  Comic book-Red can terrify Cartoon-Red with tales of his Conner and Bart.
“This team is not a social club.” – Kaldur would be the one most adamant about assignments and not wasting time on socializing.  He entered the Atlantean military at 12 years old.  He’s had structure and duty drilled into him at a young age.
“I cannot read his mind.” – Ooh, foreshadowing of M’gann’s later abuse of her powers?  That is a pretty clear violation of privacy for no other reason than convenience.  On the one hand, I cut M’gann some slack because even at 45 years old she is still a teenager by her race’s standards.  Teenagers don’t always make the best decisions and she’s obviously attempting to impress her teammates.  On the other hand, J’onn is a very ethical telepath and I’m positive he would have coached M’gann on the proper uses of telepathy.
“We all know what you’re thinking right now.” – Wally the horn dog is taken straight out of his solo comic in the late 1980s.
Wally and Dick competing over M’gann’s attention is hilarious.  I don’t think Dick event wants M’gann’s attention as much as he wants to annoy Wally.  Meanwhile, Superboy is not amused by their shenanigans.  At all.
Kaldur continues to be the only “adult” in the room.
“Granny Jones’ recipe from episode 17” – Subtle foreshadowing of an element that wouldn’t become prominent until much later in the season.
Wally needs to learn subtleness in his flirtations.
“Here, your powers are an extreme invasion of privacy.” – Wouldn’t that have been one of the first things J’onn would have gone over with her?”
Superboy would be highly sensitive to telepathic intrusions due to his experiences in Cadmus.  If your entire upbringing revolved around telepathic manipulation, you are sure not going to want anyone randomly popping into your head.
“Helo, Megan.” – What we thought was a catchphrase is more foreshadowing.
The Martian bio-ship is cool.
“Fast with his feet. Not so much with his mouth.”
“Dude!”
Yep, Dick is having too much fun giving Wally a bad time.
Kaldur takes the lead and reaches out to Superboy.  Even before it was made official, the writers did a great job laying the foundation for Aqualad to become the leader of the team.
“Mimicking boys is a lot harder.” – Would it be?  Do Martians even have gender?  Their natural forms – green or white – are basically androgynous.
“Are tornadoes common in New England?” – A pretty sensible question.  Kaldur lives underwater, Conner’s a newborn, Megan’s an alien, and Wally’s from the Midwest.  Dick is the only one who lives in New England area.
The team battles Mr. Twister and comes out on the losing end.  I’ve always felt Red Tornado was one of the most formidable heroes around. How do you fight a tornado?
“That was quite turbing.” – Dick’s mangling of the English language is thrown back into his face.
Megan deduces (wrongly) that Mr. Twister is the Red Tornado.  To be fair, it was an obvious guess.
“Stay out of our way.” – Is this Conner’s catchphrase?  This is the second time in three episodes he’s stated a variation of it.
The rematch with Mr. Twister is going as well as the first round.
“First thing Batman taught me.” – Yeah, I can see Bruce believing “never be without a weapon” is a valuable life lesson.
Where did Dick hide the utility belt? It’s rather bulky.
Megan devises a plan and the team makes short work of Mr. Twister.
“Cool.  Souvenir.” – Wally begins his collection of trophies.
The scientist at the end is Dr. T.O. Morrow – his search for Red Tornado sets up a future episode.
“Sorry.  I’ll strive to be more accurate.”
“And more respectful.”
Yep, Dick and Conner could both use lessons in manners and tact.
Conner mutters an awkward “Sorry” to Megan.  Judging from his expression, it pained him in his soul to do so.
Episode 4: “Drop-Zone”
For those curious, the first three episodes of the cartoon, along with the first five issues of the comic, took place from July 4th through the 12th.
“Drop-Zone” begins on June 19th – Kobra has forcibly taken control of Bane’s Venom-production facilities on Santa Prisca.  Bane is not happy.
Bane battles Mammoth for control of the island and loses.
I like Kobra and his minions visual design.  Very nice. I’m not sold on Shimmer or Mammoth (pre-transformation.”
We flip ahead to June 22nd.  Two possibilities for why we are now in June – which is before July, not after.  One – the creators messed up and put June in the captions instead of July.  Two – we skipped a year between episodes 3 and 4.  I’m going with the first option as the team still hasn’t elected a leader. Pretty sure you can’t have a year’s worth of adventures without an established leader.
That said, I’m pausing “Drop-Zone” and switching to the comic as the fifth issue takes place on July 20th. I’m trying to keep this in chronological order.
Issue 5: “What’s The Story?”
Wally is at the HQ – bored and flirthing with Megan.  Wally suggest a camp fire.  Megan enthusiastically agrees but dashes Wally’s hopes by inviting the rest of the team.
Tents are set, fires lit, and smores made.
Dick tells Wally to tone down his flirting as it’s “kinda bordering on the creepy.” Yeah, Wally isnt’ exactly smooth.
Conner’s not impressed with camping: “Sleep in these flimsy things called tents and sit around the fire?”
Dick scolds Wally again: “You’re about as subtle as a train wreck.”
Megan wants to learn more about her teammates.
Aqualad begins.  Here are the highlights:
·         Grew up in Shayeris, a city of Atlantis
·         Atlantis has many people, many cultures
·         Completed his education at 12 and began mandatory service in the Atlantean military
·         At 14 years old - Transferred to the prestigious Conservatory of Science in Poseidonis
·         Queen Mera is the headmistress of the Conservatory
·         Met Garth and Tula at the Conservatory
·         Garth Kaldur saved Aquaman’s life during an attack by the Ocean Master
·         Aquaman offered the boys a chance to become his protégé and later carry on his “suface duties” while he focused on running the Kingdom
·         Kaldur leapt at the chance while Garth continued his magical studies
Nice origin recap for Kaldur.  I love the inclusion of Garth and Tula as it is a nice nod to Arthur’s original sidekicks.
Wally goes next. Highlights:
·         Jay Garrick is still the original Flash!  Yes!  I love the nods to the depth of the DC Universe. Modern creators don’t seem to care about characters and continuity but Greg Weisman and company flawlessly incorporate all aspects and elements of DC’s history.
·         Barry’s next.
·         Wally desperately wants to be Kid Flash but Barry is “No! No partners! I don’t want the responsibility!”
·         Wally’s all “Screw that.  I do what I want.” and recreates the chemical combination that caused Barry to turn into the Flash.
·         Wally as a science nerd is unique to the Young Justice universe but it’s a nice addition to the character.
·         After a few weeks, Wally gains super-speed.  He campaigns to be Barry’s new partner.  Barry’s not thrilled but agrees as long as Wally does “exactly as I say, when I say it.”
The writers did an excellent job of establishing exactly why the heroes allowed the teenagers to run around in costumes:
·         Aquaman is training a protégé to assume his role as surface world ambassador/protector.
·         Batman doesn’t want Dick to turn out like him.  Bruce doesn’t want Dick’s “inner light” to face out.
·         Barry had no choice as Wally was hell-bent on being a hero.  Better to have Wally by his side than face the danger alone.
Roy is too busy being a manly loner to discover Ollie’s reasons.  Traditionally, Ollie doesn’t make the best life choices so it could have been the more typical “well, letting a kid run around in a mask and punch criminals seemed like a good idea at the time.”
Robin passes on story-telling time.  At first, Wally ribs Dick about Batman not letting him say anything but realizes he’s rubbing salt in the wound and passes the story-telling baton to Conner.
Conner doesn’t say much. He mentions the G-Gnomes and the containment pod.  Conner states he never thought for himself until his rescue.
Conner states the one thing that’s always on his mind is “Destroying Superman.
And with that bombshell, I’m off to work.
Up next, we continue story time and resume “Drop-Zone”.
SOMETHING JUST LIKE THIS CHAPTER 10/?
Rating: Mature (For Later Chapters)
Notes: The Kryptonian I'm using in this story is Doyle Kryptonian, a reference for which can be found kryptonian.info. I had been working mostly on my own to do the translations for this and for The Shape of Things to Come, but finally broke down and asked for some help from the language creator. As a result, the Kryptonian in Chapter 8 has been revised to reflect a more accurate translation (and to match what's in this chapter). I am delighted by the results, and I hope you will be delighted by the English translation of the Kryptonian phrases.
Read at Ao3
Start at the Beginning
Cat and Kara have a discussion about what happened during and after Clark's visit.
Chapter 10 - Seeing Light
Cat sat on the couch in her office, staring out at her empire, and wondering if it was all about to come crumbling down around her. It was almost ten o’clock. Almost time for her meeting with Kara. Almost time to give up on the beautiful, unworkable wish her heart had made.
God, she sounded like a Disney film.
She needed to get her head on straight. Well, maybe that was a poor choice of words, considering. Get her act together. That was better. She needed to stop day dreaming about something she couldn’t have. Kara was better than her. She was a hero, and always had been. Cat was an old woman with an inappropriate crush, having a midlife crisis and relieving the worst mistake of her youth at the same time. She was imagining a twenty-five-year-old Superhero would want to be with a woman twice her age, practically if not chronologically. A woman with a teenage son, and another son that said Superhero had dated, however briefly.
There weren’t going to be any family vacations. The trip to Disney would just be her and Carter, and that would be fine. She’d go, and she’d have a wonderful time with her son. It would give her a chance to get distance and perspective. Maybe during the summer, she and Carter could tour all the CatCo offices around the world. Check up on the empire.
Assuming it was still hers.
Assuming Kara was willing to forgive her for the line she’d crossed. The line she’d crossed once before, when Lois Lane had been crying on her shoulder in a Metropolis apartment twenty-six years ago.
She spotted Kara, heading her way wearing a smile that lit up the room. And of course, she was carrying a coffee tray and a Noonan’s bag, because she’s Kara. Cat’s heart jumped at the sight, and butterflies she was too old to have in her stomach started dancing as Kara pushed open the door and stepped inside.
“Good morning,” Kara said, so happy it made Cat wish she could hide both the packets of paperwork on the coffee table, and just spend the entire day basking in the warm glow of Kara.
“Have a seat,” she said, said, gesturing to the couch across from her.
Kara took a seat across from her and spent the next couple of minutes laying out breakfast for both of them. Or, if Cat knew Kara, breakfast for Cat, and second, or probably third breakfast for Kara. She smiled when Kara checked to make sure no one was looking before zapping Cat’s coffee with her heat vision. Cat took the Latte, and they ate in silence. Cat knew she was just postponing the inevitable, but she took the time to enjoy one last moment in the sun before the storm came.
“So, what did you want to see me about?” Kara asked as she started clearing away the remains of their breakfast. “I saw the appointment invite, but it didn’t have any details.”
“We need to talk about what happened yesterday,” Cat said.
“Oh,” Kara said, her smile faltering just a little. “Cat, I’m sorry. I know I’ve brought my problems to-”
“No,” Cat said. “No, Kara, you didn’t do anything wrong.” She took a deep breath. “Other people behaved inappropriately.”
“Clark was just upset,” Kara said.
“Kara,” Cat said, her voice firm. “What Clark did was inexcusable. No one should ever talk to you like that. It was wrong when Clark did it, it was wrong when James did it, and it was wrong when I did it.”
“Cat?” Kara asked, confusion written on her face.
“I know I treated you horribly,” she said. “And I could offer you any number of excuses. I want to. But any excuse I offer would be just that. I treated you terribly, and I never apologized for it. What happened yesterday brought that into focus for me. So, before we go any further, I want to offer you my sincere apology. I am sorry for punishing you when you did nothing wrong. I am sorry for taking out my hurt, anger, grief and wounded pride on you. I’m sorry I hired Siobhan. And I know I don’t deserve it, but I hope you can forgive me for it.”
“Cat,” Kara said, “I tried to kill you, and you forgave me for it the next time we saw each other. How could I not forgive you?”
“When you did that, you weren’t yourself. You weren’t responsible for your actions. You said it yourself. Your mind was altered. What I did, I did while in full control of my faculties. I didn’t forgive you, Kara, because there was nothing to forgive. You have always done what you believed was best, and you have made my life better in so many ways that I don’t even know how to thank you.”
“If you need to hear me say it, then I forgive you, Cat.”
Cat forced herself to smile as she blinked back tears.
“Okay,” Cat said. She took a deep breath. “I took steps to address Clark’s actions. He’s banned from the building, until you say otherwise. I would ask if you’d like me to call Perry White and have him terminated, or at the very least, have his press credentials revoked, but I already know your answer, so I addressed the matter through a different channel.”
“Cat,” Kara said, “he’s my cousin. I’m supposed to protect him.”
“He is a grown man, who should know better,” Cat said. “If you had done that to him, your career would be finished. Perry White would absolutely destroy you. I know you feel responsible for him, but even if you’re willing to let it pass, I care too much about you to do the same. And as much as I hate to admit it, I care too much about Lois to let it pass, either. Because if someone doesn’t call him out on it now, he’ll do the same thing to her, eventually, and I know Lois well enough to know that if he ever did that to her, it would end what they have.”
She watched Kara consider her words, before giving a small nod.
“Okay,” she said. “Should I ask what you did?”
“No,” Cat said. “I took the steps necessary to make sure he understood just how badly he messed up. I took the legal steps necessary to protect you, should he decide to make an issue out of you hitting him. As long as he doesn’t, I will consider the matter closed. When you feel comfortable with it, tell me, and I’ll lift the ban on him entering the building.”
Kara smiled. “I think we can make him sweat a little on that one,” she said.
“Oh, if I were Clark Kent, I’d be more worried about Alex Danvers and J’onn J’onzz,” Cat said.
Kara paled slightly. “Oh, no,” she said. “I didn’t even think about that.”
“I know, Dear, and that’s one of the most charming things about you. You’re so busy thinking of everyone else that you don’t even know how many people are would light the entire world on fire just to keep you warm. Which, now that I think about it, is probably not the best metaphor I could have used.”
Kara smiled, laughing just a little. “It’s okay,” she said. “I know what you meant.”
Cat nodded and reached for the first of the two envelopes. “Since Clark is not my employee, I had the luxury of dealing with him through unofficial channels,” Cat said. “When it comes to James, I’m not so lucky. I tried, not so long after your unpleasant phase, to correct James’ behavior. I tried again the other day when he was in your office. He has consistently ignored unofficial suggestions that he amend his attitude. Yesterday, he prevented me from intervening between you and Clark when I realized the situation was escalating. If he hadn’t, it’s unlikely the situation would have developed to the point of a physical altercation.”
“Cat-“
“No, Kara, I’m sorry. I know you’re going to feel guilty whatever happens here, but I gave James a choice. I offered to buy out his contract at one-hundred percent of its value, or to accept a two-week suspension without pay and a formal letter of reprimand. He chose the suspension and letter of reprimand. I want to stress that you should not feel guilty about this. James brought this entirely on himself. The fact that the two of you have personal issues is irrelevant. James chose to bring personal issues into the office. He chose to take actions which interfered with one employee’s ability to do their job, and caused another employee to leave CatCo altogether. James is entirely to blame for this.”
“That said, the contents of this envelope are an at fault termination packet for James Olsen. It is complete and ready to go. The only thing required to make it official is your signature on the harassment complaint. If you sign it, James Olsen will no longer be employed by CatCo World Wide Media. I would prefer you sign it, because I would very much like to terminate James Olsen’s employment. I also recognize that I am not by any measure unbiased in this situation. He hurt you. I care about you, and I am viciously protective of people I care about.”
“Cat, I can’t…” Kara said.
“I know,” Cat said. “I knew before I had the paperwork drawn up, but I had to make the offer.”
“Because you would have for anyone else,” Kara said.
Cat nodded. “Exactly,” she said. “This will be in my drawer in case you change your mind. You have one year to file a claim.”
Kara nodded. “I won’t change my mind,” she said.
Cat nodded, acknowledging what she already knew. She laid the first envelope down and picked up the second.
“The thing is, I can’t address James Olsen’s behavior without addressing my own,” Cat said. She held out the envelope to Kara. “I’d say it’s all here, but I think we both know I can’t put half of the things I’ve done to you in there, either because I don’t remember them, or because they would expose you as Supergirl.”
Kara looked down at the envelope in confusion, then lifted her eyes back up to look at Cat. “What is this?” she asked.
“It’s a formal complaint against me. I’ve included list of… Well, not every time I mistreated you, but more than enough. Calling you by the wrong name for two years. Inappropriate threats of termination. The entire incident with Siobhan. It’s necessarily vague in certain places, but it’s in my own hand, signed and witnessed by Alison Mercer from HR. A confession of my sins, up to and including what happened in your office yesterday.”
“What do you mean, what happened in my office?” Kara asked, her voice rising a bit.
Cat sat the envelope down and let out a sigh, steadying herself. “Kara, what I did in your office yesterday was unthinkable. You were hurt and vulnerable, and I took advantage. I’m not proud of it, but it’s happened before. Someone came to me for comfort after they’d been betrayed by someone they trusted, and instead of comforting them and caring for them, I let my own feelings run wild, and nearly destroyed both of us. I thought I’d learned that lesson, but apparently not.”
“Cat-” Kara said.
“I know my feelings for you are inappropriate,” Cat said, rolling right over Kara’s attempt to interrupt her. “I understand that you don’t feel the same way. Why would you want me? I have nothing to offer you. I’m old enough, I’m emotionally stunted, I come with a son your age and another who’s a teenager. I’ve treated your dreadfully. I’ve tried to blackmail you into revealing your identity, and when that failed, I threw a hissy fit and hired Siobhan to punish you.”
“That’s why you hired her?” Kara demanded in red faced anger.
“You didn’t really think any of that was about Adam, did you?” Cat asked.
“YES!” Kara said.
Cat closed her eyes and shook her head. “Kara, I love you, but you are the worst liar in the world,” she said. She looked over at Kara, who was sitting there absolutely dumbstruck. “Your shapeshifting friend fooled me for a couple of weeks. But then you stood in my office and pointed out that it was entirely possible that there was a Supergirl imposter, and I realized what happened. I didn’t sort out all the details until your venture into poor anger management, but I got the gist of it when Bizzaro showed up. I was hurt that you didn’t trust me enough to tell me the truth. Especially the day you went missing and J’onn pretended to be you.”
“You love me?” Kara asked, her voice small and soft.
Cat froze as she realized what she’d said, not sure whether she was more surprised to find it was true, or that she’d actually said it out loud.
“I’m sorry,” she said. “I shouldn’t have said that. After yesterday, I wouldn’t blame you if you hate me.”
“I don’t understand what you’re talking about,” Kara said. “You said you took advantage of me, but you didn’t. All you did is protect me and take care of me, like you always do.”
“I did!” Cat said. “You were hurt and vulnerable and I should have been comforting you, but instead, spilled my own stupid feelings out. Then when you tried to kiss me, instead of stopping you like I should have, I just stood there and let you. I didn’t protect you. I was too busy indulging my own day dreams.”
She reached up and covered her face with her hands, rubbing her eyes and trying to keep from screaming the anger she felt at herself. It was that night in Metropolis all over again. Lowell Jeffries had stolen a story Lois had been working on for weeks and gotten the promotion to the crime desk that went with it. Lois had shown up at Cat’s apartment, red eyed and broken. Cat had taken her inside and held her when she cried. Cat had supposed to be comforting her friend, but instead she’d given into the crush she’d been nursing since the moment they met. She’d tipped Lois’s head back and kissed her. One kiss turned into two, into three, and they’d ended up spending most of the weekend making love on every horizontal surface in Cat’s apartment. They’d spent most of the next year going back and forth between making love and screaming at each other.
God, she had loved Lois so much it had almost killed her, but they were doomed from the start. All either of them had to offer anyone were long nights at the office, borderline alcoholism, and emotionally stunted hearts that all too often confused codependence with love. Both of them were so broken they couldn’t come up with a whole person between them, and they did nothing for the entire year they were together but cling to each other madly while all their sharp edges cut them to the bone. Two and a half decades and four marriages later, she had trouble remembering her ex-husbands faces, but she remembered the exact expression Lois wore every time she had hurt her.
She fought to hold back the tears. She’d thought she’d prepared herself for this. Thought she’d be able to get through it. But losing even the dream of Kara was going to hurt so much worse than Lois. She’d loved Lois fiercely, and she knew Lois had loved her just as fiercely in return. It just hadn’t been enough. No matter how much they’d loved each other, it was never enough to make either of them actually change. Not the way Clark changed Lois. Not the way Kara had changed her. Lois had been someone to cling to while they both tried not to drown in their own pain. Kara had lifted her out of the relentless sea, set her on dry land, and showed her the well spring of hope. She wasn’t sure she was going to survive that being taken away from her.
“/.sozhaoowahshes/” Kara whispered as she slipped her hands around Cat’s wrists. Gently, she pulled Cat’s hands away from her face, and Cat found herself staring down at Kara, who was kneeling on front of her, smiling up at her in a way that made Cat’s heart soar, even as it was ripping itself into pieces.
“/.nahn w khap i zhor .:zhao w rraop .:zhaoes zhindif w rraop .pahskiles rrip w khap ni :divi/” Kara whispered. “/.zhindahzh khuhp w voiehd im ;zuhne non w udolkhehdia gahv shahrrehth im/”
“Tell me what you are saying,” Cat pleaded. She didn’t know the words, but the tone was soft and reverent and made Cat hope that her world wasn’t going to come down around here like it had decades earlier when she’d come home and found a door key laying on her kitchen counter.
“I said ‘Please, don’t cry.’” Kara reached up and brushed back a strand of hair, tucking it behind Cat’s ear. “You are my heart. I love you. I have always loved you. You make me see light.” Kara smiled even wider as slipped her hands up Cat’s arms, taking Cat’s hands in her own. She brought them down to her mouth, so she could kiss them. “I dreamed of this, but I was afraid to let myself hope for it.”
Cat stared down into Kara’s eyes, afraid to speak, afraid to breath, lest she burst the bubble of what must surely be a dream. Until finally, not knowing became more painful that the fear that this would all vanish. “You mean that?”
“I do,” Kara said. “I’m pretty sure I was in love with you by the end of my first day.”
Cat raised her hand, cupping Kara’s check, running her thumb over the soft skin. “You shouldn’t,” she said. “I’m terrible, and you deserve better.”
“I deserve to be happy,” Kara said, “and being with you would make me happy.” She rose up off her knees and leaned towards Cat and the kiss that felt almost inevitable.
When their lips met, it was felt like coming home. The world melted away, and all the weight she cared lifted. There was nothing in that moment but Kara. Kara’s sinfully soft lips gliding over hers, Kara’s infinitely gentle hands cradling her face. Kara’s mouth opening willingly for Cat’s tongue. Someone moaning. She wasn’t sure who. Just that the kiss was over before she was satisfied, but that only meant it hadn’t lasted for the rest of her life.
She had just enough time to meet Kara’s gaze and smile before the clapping started. Both of their eyes went wide as they turned and looked out to see the entire bullpen looking at them. Some of them were laughing, some of them were clapping, two women in the back were exchanging money, and poor Eve looked like she couldn’t decide whether she was happy or terrified.
Cat was shocked for exactly three seconds before her eyes narrowed and she reached up, turning Kara’s face back towards hers, leaning down to kiss her again. After all, it was her company and her building and her office, and if anyone had a problem with her kissing the woman she loved there, they could die mad about it.
The Talk - Bruce Wayne x Reader (eroticaish)
So I know I said I was away at some of my friends’ place, but everyone went to bed early because we’re suppose to wake up super early in the morning to go and visit Brussels and I have no self-control (or common sense apparently) so I’m on the internet while everyone sleep and..yeah basically I have time to write a fic, it’s silly and not great, wrote it in litteraly twenty minutes, but here we go, hope you’ll like it :
IMPORTANT WARNING : THIS IS SUGGESTIVE ! THIS IS NOT FOR YOU IF YOU ARE UNDERAGED, I GODDAMN MEAN IT. Like there’s cute and sweet feelings in the mix, but also…smut, so if you’re not 18 or more, or if you’re not comfortable with that sort of things etc etc, this story ain’t for you. I have tons of other very SFW story, for averyone to read, and if you wanna check those out instead, it’s right here, on My masterlist blog : @ella-ravenwood-archives.
______________________________________________
When J’onn J’onzz, aka Martian Manhunter, asked where the Batman was, he wasn’t expecting to blush for the first time in his life.
So that’s how it felt to be so embarassed that your face changed color...it wasn’t pleasant. It was a very human emotion.
************
He came in the common room of the Watchtower looking for the bat because he had infos for him, infos he asked and said were highly important for one of his current case back in Gotham City.
J’onn scanned the room quickly.
Aquaman was conversing with Green Arrow and Black Canary. Wonder Woman was arm wrestling Hawkgirl, AND Zatanna AND Green Lantern (not allowed to use his ring of course), and the amazon was clearly having a blast “fighting” them, not even a drop of sweat on her face. Flash was playing ping-pong against himself, under the gaze of Shazam who was trying to keep up
Superman was sitting on one of the couches, on his own, away from everyone (which was unusual), visibly grumpy.
...A lot of J’onn’s colleagues where there, the World being rather calm, but no trace of Batman, or his wife, or even his children. Mm.
Well, the next best thing to locate the bat,a after you and his kids, was to ask his best friend, Clark.
J’onn went to him and sat down in front of him.
-Hello Clark.
Still frowning, and clearly not happy, Superman turned to give a sideway look at his fellow alien friend and said, a bit coldly :
-J’onn.
There was a short and awkward silence, and Clark was definitely avoiding J’onn’s eyes, which made the martian question :
-Have I done anything to offend you ?
Surprised, Superman finally turns his head fully toward his friend and, after a moment of confusion says :
-What ? No. No no you’re fine, it’s not you the problem don’t worry. Sorry...
-You seem on edge, are you alright ?
-Yes, I’m okay.
-I’m here to talk if you want to, and...
-I’m fine J’onn ! Just a bit...distracted and annoyed, that’s all.
-Why ?
-It’s none of your goddamn business. It’s annoying and there’s nothing you can do about it !
-It’s not like you to be so...harsh. You know you can tell me Clark. What is distracting you like so ?
Clark pouts and crosses his arms, burrying himself deeper in the couch, and doesn’t seem to want to talk further, but after a moment finally says :
-It’s because of Bruce and (Y/N).
-Oh, Batman ? I was initially looking for him. What about them ? Are you jealous because you’re missing Lois and they...
-No, not jealous at all. And if you wanna see Bruce, you’re gonna have to wait ‘til he’s done.
-Until he’s...Done ?
Clark shifts awkwardly in his seat and points to his head, meaning he gives J’onn the permission to look in his mind. And so the martian dives in.
Screams. Skin hitting/slapping skin loudly.
The Martian Manhunter’s, famed and mighty superhero, first instinct is to rush toward the sound to save whoever is being attacked but...
Screams. Of pleasure. Moans. Loud ones. Groans of utter and total bliss. Wet sounds...Like something hard entering somewhere slick. Fingers tangling in hair. Nails breaking skin. Sounds of suction...
J’onn has enough and stops reading Superman’s mind. He gets it. So, that’s where Batman was.
In you.
He feels his face tingling, his skin being warm, and looks at Clark then says :
-Oh.
The kryptonian nods and reddens a bit too, before saying :
-I know. And it’s like that every time there’s a calm moment in the World that doesn’t require our intervention. I hear them often. It’s worst when they haven’t seen each others for a while, like now.
-Oh. Wow. Oh. Uh. Wow...
-Yes, that was my first reaction, now I’m kinda used to it...
-Do they...
A loud cheer from where Wonder Woman, Zatanna, Hawkgirl and Green Lantern were, distracts them from their current subject for a second.
Diana just won the arm wresting, finally deciding to put her friedns out of their misery and end the humiliation of them not being able to even move her of one single inch.
The rest of the League, of course, applauses...The rest of the League but Superman and Martian Manhunter, which attracts everyone’s attention on them. Usually, Clark would be the loudest to cheer his fellow super strengthed colleague ! And right now, J’onn and him looked flustered. Their friends had to get to the bottom of it, smelling the juicy gossip.
************
It’s not on purpose that Clark lets it out.
He resist for a long time, agreeing with J’onn in his mind that they shouldn’t say anything. Batman wasn’t someone you wanted to piss off, and was quite a private guy. So talking about Superman being able to hear him and his beloved wife making passionate love...Yeah, no, not a good idea.
So when, after yet another insisting question, Clark, already bothered by the sounds you and Bruce are STILL making, is unable to control himself and yells :
-I can hear Bruce and (Y/N) fucking !
Both him and J’onn freeze, and wait nervously for their friends’ reaction.
It’s not at all what they were expecting.
They were waiting for some snickering, immature comments, stupid jokes being readied for when you and Batman would come back.
But no.
Diana is the first to speak after the revelation of why Superman and Martian Manhunter were acting weird :
-We ought to tell them something.
-Make a rule about it, like “no sex in the watchtower” or something.
Added Dinah.
Clark was a bit confused, until a very amused Flash explained things to him :
-Come on Sups, too bad for you that you can hear them, super awkward, but...I think all of us walked in on them doing it, or about to do it at some point in our League’s career. They scared Billy. They often go on missions separated so when they come back I guess they can’t keep off of each others and...
Diana cuts him off.
-We don’t need details Barry ! But we should probably tell them to, if not stop, maybe tune it down a little and...
Flash, Aquaman and...Well, all the Leaguers present burst out in laughter.
Oliver looks at the Amazon, tears falling down his cheeks, and says :
-You want to tell Bruce, the Batman, the scariest man around, and his intimidating wife, (Y/N), (Y/N) and her death glare, that can make us do whatever she wants you to do, you want us to...to tell them to stop having sex so often ? Diana I swear this is your funniest joke !
-Well maybe we can find a nice way to tell them ?!
For the first time since he exited Clark’s mind, J’onn found his voice and, not blushing anymore, says :
-Maybe we can’t (or don’t dare to) stop them, but maybe we can...Talk ? Talk to them. About it. Maybe we can like...they can have a special room or something because poor Clark..They’re loud and...yes, maybe we should just talk about it ?
************
Bruce was helping you put your costume back on, running his fingers up your back lovingly...with a mischievous smile, you slap his hand away and gives him a look that means :”stop, we gotta go, we can’t do it again”.
He kisses your neck, right where he left countless love bites (thanks the Gods for your superhero costume who covered your neck entirely), and you softly push him away, kissing his lips as you put his cowl back on.
With a last tender kiss, he finally pulls away from you, reluctantly leaving the warmth of your arms, he says :
-I missed you.
-I noticed...
You say with a smile that makes him melt, and add :
-I missed you too. So much.
-Noticed too. I’ll make sure to not be shirtless around anyone, they’ll ask again about the scratches on my back.
He winks at you and you can’t help but smile, squeezing his bicep with your hand (who was too small to wrap itself around it). He smiles back, and it’s your turn to melt.
-I love you (Y/N).
-I love you too.
He leans down to lay his forehead against yours. You take advantage of the few minutes left to enjoy each other’s touch.
It was so rare for you and your Bruce to have calm moments. Even him with all the boys, you rarely had time just the two of you...So when you came back from missions after being separated, even you guys had to admit you had trouble not jumping on each others...You were just “too” in love !
But now, you had to go, you had so much work to do...And outside your privacy, you both disliked PDA. You’d sometimes look at each other, love shining in your eyes, or softly brush your fingers on the other’s arm when you walked by them, Sometimes daring to kiss if no one was watching.But no more, you were both private people. You only did PDA in front of your children, because you thought it was funny to gross them out.
So, with a sigh of nostalgia, you both left the room you loved each others so passionately in, and went back to your duty...
************
You knew something was wrong when you heard Clark say : “they’re coming, I can hear them coming !” and when all your leaguer friends were aligned in front of the common room’s entrance. A bit worried you asked :
-What’s going on ?
They awkwardly look at each other, and your worries fly away. Gods. What did they find this time to make fun of you and Bruce ? Didn’t they learn by now that it always turned against them ? That no matter what, you didn’t care about any mockeries ?
Arthur clears his throat and finally says :
-Well...you see...Hum...When a man and a woman love...
Diana cuts him off, rolling his eyes to the sky.
-They don’t need a lecture about the bird and the bees Art’ ! They clearly know everything already and that’s not why we wanna talk.
-Yeah well I didn’t know how to start the subject, if you’re so smart, do it !
The amazon blushes and says :
-Actually, it’s not a problem to me. Barry ?
-Hey don’t look at me, J’onn started it, he said we should talk !
-What ? No but wait, I said that to help Clark, he’s the one that have the biggest problem with all this !
Everyone turns to the poor Superman who, though he’s the biggest of them all, feels very small and wished he could just be somewhere else. Like at Ma’s house, eating delicious cookies with her and Lois.
He doesn’t dare to speak and finally, already a bit annoyed, Bruce says :
-Oh god what is it ? We don’t have all day we promised the boy a movie night before going on patrol in Gotham, so just spill the beans already Clark !
The mighty Superman looks terrified...And tries to leave, but Diana holds him back. Damn that woman and her incredible strength !
There’s a short struggle between the two, in front of an exasperated Batman, and a very confused you, until finally Clark stops fighting and turns to face you and your husband, boring a miserable expression on his face. It’s funny how, when you and Bruce aren’t there, he finds it easy to complain about you and all, but when you’re both in front of him...it’s another story.
He feels like a child trying to tell his parents he just did something bad...
Weakly, he starts :
-Well...You see...With my super hearing I...Well...I...
You wished he could just say it. You know sometimes he gets awkward around Bruce, because he finds him intimidating and when you’re with him, it’s even worst as the two of you together seem just invincible (he also hates the  fact you seem to never care when he’s around and just start to make-out randomly...of course, you do it on purpose, just like with your children). But you were quite in a hurry, and you try to help him :
-You can hear our heart beats ?
He shakes his head. Negative. That’s not it.
-You can hear...hum...The boys fighting and it’s annoying ?
Another shake of the head. Nope. Not that either.
-We’re too loud when we talk ? You want us to turn it a notch down ?
-...Not when you “talk”. And yes. All of us do. But particularly me cause I can hear...everything.
You swear that “all of them” don’t, in fact, as some just look away, or raise their hands in the air as to say “I got nothing to do with this !”...And you start to understand. Given the fact that Bruce is stiffening next to you, he does too.
And when Clark starts to ramble about him being embarassed, and all of them seeing things they didn’t want to see (they’re liers, naked you and Bruce ? Super worth seeing)...Yes, you’re sure you’re right.
-Oh. Oh. OooOOooooh. That’s...that’s....
Awkward, that’s the word you’re looking for, but you can’t find it, mortified that basically all of your friends reunited just to tell you to have less sex, or at least, to be less loud...You were so sure to use sound proof rooms...You’re about to apologize, to try and tell them you’ll calm down, when you feel Bruce grabbing your hand, turning you around to face him, and crashing his lips on yours.
The kiss is already passionate, and you can’t resist him. You respond. And completely forget that you’re making out in front of the entire Justice League.
When your husband pulls away, however, you realize it and blush like crazy, thanksful to the mask hiding most of your face, burying the visible parts in your husband’s chest, because damn this is awkward and embarassing.
What got into your Bruce, to kiss you like that in front of them as they were just saying you two were too...Loud and stuffs ?
The answer comes fast, as Batman explains :
-Sorry to gross you out Clark, sorry to annoy all of you with my unability to stay away from her too long...Sorry to be so in love that I don’t even care. You guys all know me, I’m a private man, I dislike talking about my relationship with my wife, and (Y/N) doesn’t enjoy speaking about us either...And I’m not good with words but...I love her. To death. And all that cheesy things I probably shouldn’t say in public. But it’s true, I do. I love her to death. And when we both went to risk our life, just like all of you, to save an ungrateful world, well...I have to show her that I love her. Just in case I won’t get to see her again next time. I have to show her how much she means to me. I love her. To death. And there’s nothing I can change about that. So sorry to make you all uncomfortable, but I’ll never stop making love to my wife, the love of my life, to my sweet (Y/N), because I love her. To death. Here. Public apologies for all the next time you might hear or see us accidentaly. Because there’s no way I’ll ever stop, and you guys will just have to live with it. Avoid where we are if you must. Now on that note, we’re going home to see our sons. And this subject is now close.
Bruce cannot stop himself from glaring at them (mostly because they dared making you feel awkward as Hell), and adds :
-Forever.
He takes your hand in his and, while you try to apologize to your friends with your eyes and whispering soft “sorry, sorry” to them, directs you to the nearest Zeta tubes.
The last sight they all had of you that day, was him kissing you again...Definitely passionately.
A heavy silence installed itself as you two disappeared, and after quite a while of stunned silence, Flash finally said :
-Well...That went well !
************
Hours later, your children and Alfred were arriving to the Watchtower from zeta tubes, with their pyjamas and toothbrushes. When Clark, who was finally going home, asked them what they were doing, if they were on watch or something, they simply said that for some reasons, while they were having their famous family movie nighs, their parents sneaked out (things they never did except if something special happened), and they got...So loud, that they all decided to leave.
With a blush, Clark rushed out of the watchtower and started to seriously think about earplugs made out of Kryptonite..
FIN. Hope you liked it, sorry I’m dead tired and didn’t proof read at all so if there’s lots of mistakes and it’s shit...Well sorry. Might erase it later, and re-write when less tired. I just wanted to write a quick thing before leaving again for a few days with friends, and so not logging in Tumblr for a while..:-) hope you still kinda liked it.
Even His Ass!
This is for the beautiful and wonderful and lovely and glorious and funny and magical @supercitycarnival <3 <3 Happy birthday you gorgeous human being <3
Thank you @coop-writes and @the-queen-of-the-light thank you for the quick betas, you two are also magical and glorious <3
You can also read this on AO3
It's not that she holds Kara to get her shoes on, it's the Rao-be-blessed, groping of her own breasts! And even that Kara could get over, with several flights around the world, but then she has to go on and on about Kal!
Kara’s not pouting. Obviously, that would be childish and Kara is an adult and she’s not pouting.
“You’re pouting.” Alex’s voice cuts through the clicks of her own keyboard and Kara doesn’t look up.
“Am not.”
“Are too.”
“Am not.”
“Crinkle.”
“Aleeexxxxx.” She’s being mean, and Kara’s had a hard week with the Alex nearly getting shot and the Luthor mayhem and Kara doesn’t deserve this.
But Alex won’t leave her alone. “Why are you pouting?” Her fingers wiggle into Kara’s side. She bends out of habit but doesn’t answer. “Karaaaaaaaaaaaaa.”
“Alex, it’s nothing!”
She holds her breath and almost sighs in relief until Alex opens her mouth again.
“Is it because of Kal?”
Her head whips up and she knows she’s blown it but her mouth’s already moving. “What? Kal? No, no, of course not! Kal? No, I love him being here! He’s great to work with!”
“Oh, well, that’s a relief,” Alex scoffs and lays across Kara, making sure to elbow her in the cheek. “Was it Winn weeping over him?” Kara’s half-snort nearly bounces her from her precarious perch. “No? Maybe J’onn and his Martian-meanness?”
“Alexxx, stop, it’s nothing, really!” She rolls and Alex grapples to avoid the myriad of bruises that landing under Kara normally gives.
Kara groans when they hit the ground and Alex humphs. “Fine, but figure this out. If I have to see another crinkle that’s not on a pastry, I’ll take you back into space.”
Kara just groans all the more.
She just has to rub it in all the time. Even about his backside (which really, Kara could never see the appeal of). Kara’s sitting through another rant on the wonderfulness of Kansas-fed bodies when she doesn’t quite catch her huff of indignation.
“Oh? Something to say, Keira?” Cat’s eyebrow raise hits critical and it’s every mix of offended and interested that has Kara ready to bolt. “Care to share?”
She’s two fingers of scotch in and the cool night is yet young. If only Kara could keep her huffing to herself. “N-no, sorry, I just, uh, frog in my throat?”
Cat just hums noncommittally and stares at her. Maybe Cat’s an alien too, she could probably light flammable objects on fire with that gaze. She’s only just started to bounce the notebook against her palm when Cat scoffs and rolls her eyes.
“Oh grow a backbone, Kara. If you don’t want me making passes at your cousin, just say so.”  She swirls her drink and the slowly melting ice clinks above the din of the traffic below. “Besides, I’d have to beat Lois off him with her own broom… unless your issue is with our age difference, which, Lois is only a year younger than me, you should have the same iss-”
“It’s not your age! It’s that you just don’t stop! It’s Clark’s arms or … or hair or whatever and Clark’s wonderful but not that wonderful! Yeah the Kansas thing is charming but he uses so much hair product and Kal acts all high and mighty but he’s got flaws just like everyone else! He once lit a box of Agreddon lilies on fire because he thought they were dangerous!” She frowns down at the clipboard in her hand and pictures those poor lilies. Kal had apologized endlessly, but Kara could only save one and that hadn’t made her feel any better.
The traffic drones on from below. Kal’d brought her Earth lilies, like those could compare, they didn’t glow just before dawn if you left them under a full moon!
“So instead I should talk about hideous cardigans and how they don’t accentuate the biceps they cover?” Kara blinks. “Or maybe the sun-soaked river of golden hair always tied back to show off a jawline that could cut a man?” Cat’s staring at her. “Or maybe the calve muscles that no flouncy, bargain-bin skirt could ever hide?”
Her shoes have dirt on them. She should really clean those.
“Or perhaps… I should really focus on the incredible heroism and deft attention to detail that I see almost often enough?” Oh, there are Cat’s shoes too. Hers are immaculate, of course. “Jealousy is a new color on you… I don’t mind it.”
She’s pretty sure Greece is real nice this time of… … what?
But then there’s a shriek from the other side of the city and Kara’s eyes widen, 37th street, and Cat smirks with her hip cocked to the side, standing in her office doorway like some sort of goddess dressed in leather, and waves her fingers in dismissal. There’s a flicker of disappointment when Kara glances back toward the shriek.
She very conveniently turns away long enough that Kara could have slipped out of her office… or off her balcony. It’s just the pthrinc on the baroged, Cat knows.
Alex’ll probably have an aneurysm but Kara lifts off lighter than she’s been in the day that Kal set foot in CatCo. She almost doesn’t hear it, but she’s tuned just enough to catch:
“Finally, thought I’d have to stoop to ‘bulge’ jokes just to get the point across.” It’s muttered, but loudly, and Kara cringes and even the fluttery feeling in her chest takes a kick from the mental image that provides.
Opinion piece: DC House of Horror (2017)
First of all SPOILERS for DC House of Horror!
Second, this is only my OPINION. It might be unpopular. It might even be offensive. But I want to talk about this before going back to my normally scheduled “hey look at this cool stuff” and “it’s stupid AU time!” content.
I did not read the Green Arrow and Captain Marvel/Shazam stories since I’m not currently invested in those characters. *shrugs*
The rest are...meh. The whole series seems to have Keith Giffen credited with the plot ideas, but each story has a different script writer. So I have no idea who I’m criticizing in each of these blurbs. Probably Keith. I don’t know.
Bump in the Night (feat Superman; by Edward Lee)
I have admittedly little experience with horror movie conventions, but I’m pretty sure this was aiming for the opening of a monster movie. Creepy, dangerous alien falls from space, kills the locals before making its way to more populated areas. The poor schmuck that finds it first always dies quickly and painfully, which is what happened to Pa Kent here. Kind of a cheap death, but it fits the genre convention.
The dramatic irony of Martha Kent trying to call her husband and her refusing to leave the house when something strange is happening outside were pulled off pretty well. Overall, I think she reads as a spirited but ultimately doomed horror protagonist.
My problem with this is that the alien (”Clark/Baby Superman”) reads as a complete cardboard-cutout monster cliche. Why did he kill Pa and Ma Kent? No reason is even alluded to. He just kills them because they’re there.
(If I were writing this, I would have played up the naive-creepy-child factor. Have Clark accidentally kill Jonathan Kent since he’s a child who doesn’t know his own strength and has never seen a dead person before. If you want to keep the alien-vibe, have him not recognize that he killed a person. Imagine a kid using a magnifying glass on an ant, then replace the ant with Pa and Ma Kent. I like to think that would have been more memorable.)
Man’s World (feat Wonder Woman; by Mary Sangiovanni)
Well, they definitely have the aesthetic they were going for. The mixed chronology is actually not as confusing as I was expecting since the artists made good use of the colors and a wardrobe change to help guide the reader through the flashbacks. I actually felt creeped out by this one.
The only problem is...this doesn’t read like Diana AT ALL. Having Diana not speak English is a great way to keep her menacing, but it also destroys any ability for the audience to know what’s going on in her head. Without her words, we have only her actions, and...she’s just going around killing people? Who haven’t done anything?? (Except the last guy, but he’s one out of six on-page deaths.)
What is her motivation? Why is she doing these things? What happened to Wonder Woman, righteous warrior and defender of the innocent?
(This would have been excellent if it was a villain character instead of Diana, just saying.)
Crazy for You (feat Harley Quinn; by Bryan Smith and Brian Keene)
Is it a ghost? Or is it a hallucination? Both? I’m not sure, and I love that I’m not sure.
That said, I’m definitely not a Harley expert...does she read in-character? I don’t know, she feels flat to me. And something about cutting hard away from witnessing the murders. Unreliable narrator is in effect, I want more concrete details of the murders from Chuck’s point of view.
Last Laugh (feat Batman; by Nick Cutter)
Ha. Hahaha. This is the one I reblogged panels from yesterday.
Good things first: capitalizing on Batman-Joker parallels has been done since forever, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. I think the opening and closing scenes are well-narrated and well-composed. The much smaller batcave and the gun are good hints that something’s very different about this universe. The Joker’s voice was pretty good, for the most part. I wouldn’t change much of anything in the first half of this.
The second half...hahaha.
My beef with this one isn’t that Jason was killed; it was that he was killed for shock value and as an undisguised reference to super-(in)famous Death in the Family. It does not add constructively to the narrative at all. Last Laugh is clearly a hard AU with only the barest resemblance to canon; leaning so hard on canon that you only have one panel (technically two panels) with Jason in your story means that I just get angry instead of mournfully distraught when Jason is killed. It’s cheap and unearned in my opinion.
More broadly, there’s mixed signals as to the nature of Bruce’s delusion. Is he going around beating/killing people dressed as Batman? Or does he do his murders specifically dressed as the Joker? The later red panels indicate the former while the zoom-in on his locker at the end implies the latter. This whole story would have been much stronger if the writer had picked one interpretation and stuck with it from beginning to end.
(I would go with a strong Batman/Joker divide where Batman is still the vigilante and the Joker is the only “one” doing the crimes. Have the blue and red panels read as Batman vs Joker for most of the first read-through, but also have them consistently show Delusion vs Truth for the second read-through. I would also have Joker’s call-outs be a little more ambiguous so the twist actually sneaks up on you as opposed to be super obvious from the first red panel on.
And goddamn, if you’re going to kill Jason, at least have him show up in the narrative beforehand as Robin in the Delusion panel and ordinary-child-Jason in the Truth panel. Have him walk in on something he shouldn’t have, which leads to his murder and Bruce’s subsequent final mental break. Hell, maybe even imply that Robin was never really a thing outside Bruce’s head to really hammer home the death of a child who did nothing wrong.
Work for the tragedy, is all I’m saying.)
Blackest Day (feat Hal Jordan and Justice League; by Brian Keene)
In my opinion, this is the strongest of the lot. Zombie Barry compromising the moon base - because he was looking for help and didn’t realize he was already doomed - is excellent. And terrifying, because Zombie Barry could start the apocalypse by himself, imagine how many people he could bite in a minute. Liked how Hal held onto hope all the way up until he felt himself changing, then decided to take a Last Stand rather than let himself become part of the problem.
Superman being off-planet was cheap. The timeline for the End of the World seems super contracted based on Constantine’s transmission and the way the moon base was wholly in the dark. Wonder Woman and J’onn died very easily. Would have liked more fighting off the zombies, but this was short enough that there wasn’t a lot of time for that.
Having the World actually End...I’m never a fan of complete annihilation by zombies. (And what about Themyscira? Atlantis? Is DC Earth really completely depopulated?)
(I’m just saying, post-zombie-apocalypse AU. I’d read it.)
Unmasked (feat Two Face; by Wrath James White...that’s a weird name)
I think this one’s the weakest of the ones I read. I may not be the most well-read when it comes to Havey/Two-Face, but ugh. Serial Killer Harvey is something I don’t need in an official AU. Not to mention that that is not how skinning a person works - connective tissue between the skin and the muscle would mean that peeling each face would take way more time than shown.
The Leviathan thing also takes up way too many panels and accomplishes nothing. NOTHING.
Some slightly-more-detailed musings on 5x06 (though I’m honestly so annoyed that it’s this episode that’s still lingering in my brainspace.)
So, positives first, I suppose: this episode did a fairly decent job of fleshing out Andrea, at least in a ‘I actually care about this character now’ kind of way. I genuinely enjoyed her relationship with Russell, and was surprised when it was revealed that she had powers. (Buuuuut let’s...put a pin in this. We’ll return to it in a bit.)
There wasn’t much, but I enjoyed the Alex, Kara, and J’onn bits that we got. In particular: Alex shouting SUPERGIRL! and Kara hearing; Kara’s heart-to-heart with Russell; J’onn showing up to help Alex, etc.
I like the use of flashback episodes to work around the cast filming crossover stuff, and even though this episode had a lot of....not-great-stuff, it kinda felt nice because the cast is now so BIG that forty minutes devoted to basically just two characters was refreshing? Even if they jumped around the timeline at breakneck pace.
Right, so. Now for the, ah. Less-good.
The whole set-up of the medallion stuff is just...rife with dated, bad tropes. Though, I guess it’s...fitting? That the whitest, richest woman on the show is engaging in stuff like, ‘I know this culture best and I have a right to this ancient artifact’. But the fact that it was just another way to explain why Lena Hates Lying and Betrayal and not, you know, an explicit indictment or commentary on the trope itself is....mmmmm. “Not great, Bob!”
(I’m also having a hard time remembering...did they establish that the medallion was like...alien in origin? It was discussed when Lena was talking about countering Lex’s Kryptonite atmosphere idea. And I know it ended up being linked to Leviathan, but that...sits right up next to ‘the contributions of ancient cultures was ACTUALLY the work of ALIIIEEEENNNNNSSSS’ which...is again, NOT GREAT, BOB, and makes me weary of those ancient alien characters they’re gonna introduce next episode.)
(Some of that is inevitable, I guess, when your fictional superhero world posits that aliens do exist, but I think it’s just. Maybe. Too Many Bad Tropes.)
This whole episode radiated intense Indiana Jones vibes, but of the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull variety, which. If you’re gonna commit to Indy vibes. Pick a good one, at least.
Adding to the list of, ‘Not great, Bob!’ we have the whole adaptation of Andrea’s character.
I feel as though Andrea comes across as a very sympathetic character, and by the end I was very firmly in the ‘redemption arc for Andrea’ camp, buuuuuuuuuut I gotta wonder why this particular character needed to be Acrata, given that the show is...very much doing its own thing. That runs fairly counter to the character’s comic roots. In a manner that is understandably offensive.
SPEAKING OF THE END.
Shooting Russell felt so unnecessary.
(I think they recently announced that the character’s recurring, BUT, does that just refer to the episodes we’ve already seen? Will he be relegated to flashbacks going forward? Is he actually Not Dead? Very much hoping it’s the last one, but, uh. Not terribly confident.)
So now we’ve arrived at the Lena portion of the list, AKA, my least favorite part.
There’s been so much Lena content this season, and none of it is really. Making me feel for her. At all.
(It’s achieving the opposite, in fact.)
No amount of additional backstory is gonna make me think that stuff like...faking a home invasion/assault to distract Kara, and threatening Andrea by mind-controlling her fiance to slit his own throat is okay. And I don’t think that the show is trying to garner sympathy exactly, but it’s really got me wondering...where this arc is headed.
I don’t see the show giving Lena a ‘dark’ ending, but they keep piling on all these bad decisions and I don’t...find myself rooting for emotional catharsis and an inevitable heroic turn and redemption, I just want her to get what’s coming to her.
(Man I try not to worry about plot stuff that hasn’t happened yet but I am CONCERNED that all of this will ultimately be more about Lena than Kara and it will be Lena who, in the end, saves everyone thus ‘earning’ her redemption when what I REALLY want is for Kara to be like, ‘you’ve been a bad friend, actually, and the decisions you make are neither my fault nor my responsibility’ and Lena being like ‘OH you’re right, I need Help to deal with both my past emotional abuse and the fact that I’m PERPETUATING that bad behavior as a result of, at best, poor coping mechanisms and, at worst, no coping mechanisms at all’ but HNNNRRRRG, there’s been so little on Kara’s end. I’m really feeling that ‘no fear, one fear’ meme.)
(Okay on the flip side of my doom and gloom proclamation, maybe Kara being slower to forgive William is hinting at potential character growth...that, you know, while it is entirely in-character for Kara ultimately to be willing to forgive/never give up hope that people can change for the better, she’ll also recognize that she’s not to blame and has a right to be upset with someone who is LYING TO HER, MANIPULATING HER, and ACTIVELY PLACING HER LOVED ONES IN DANGER, WHETHER INTENTIONAL OR NOT.)
I HATE THAT THIS EPISODE HAS INSPIRED SUCH A LENGTHY LIST OF THOUGHTS. BAH.
In summary: The cast this year is TOO BIG, so focusing on certain characters is GOOD but there were BAD TROPES and I am VERY TIRED OF THIS LENA PLOT unless it actually leads to GOOD DEVELOPMENT FOR KARA.
Some miscellaneous thoughts about the season as a whole because you know what? We’re already here, so we MIGHT AS WELL:
I really do feel like the biggest problem this season is that they’re trying to serve this big cast of characters AND Do Plot™ so everything is ending up very surface level.
And yeah, I agree with the general feeling of: Not Enough Kara
I do like all the J’onn stuff, though. Yay, Space Dad!
I also liked the premiere because it seemed as though it was setting up a focus on the Lena and Kara conflict as like. This emotional through-line for the season, but so far, Kara’s been investigating stuff and Lena’s been robbing people of their free will so as stated above I can only HOPE (ha, ha) that this will eventually result in the Good Kara Content I crave.
Pleasantly surprised by how much I like William and, as of this episode, Andrea.
Other stuff I’m looking forward to (again in the hopes that it will result in Good Kara Content):
The crossover (YEAH YEAH I KNOW but, I gotta say, because Kara’s the only Arrowverse lead without a romantic partner, we tend to get good Alex and Kara stuff, all things considered. It’s not a LOT. But it’s THERE.)
Winn returning, because good SpaceFam stuff? Maybe?
The 100th episode, which, traditionally, is an excuse to engage in some fan service and nostalgia.
The end of the Lena plot please.
A quick note: I’ve been fairly critical of Lena in this post, but do not take that as an automatic endorsement of any other popular ships/characters.
