R.R | RIDDLE ROSEHEARTS:
About: Riddle's Rose
"Rose? I see you've met that troublesome intern at the library. That's a nickname. Their name is (Y/N) and yes, they are my partner." "A-Ah? I'm so direct? Well, you asked me a question! Though...I would prefer that this discussion end here. I prefer to keep my relationship with them private.”
Chat: Childhood Memories
“Ever since we were young, (Y/N) was quite rebellious. The complete opposite of me as a child, really. They were always sneaking off during the night and coming over to visit me. Mother...didn't approve of them and often screamed in their face. I was quite terrified she would scare them away, though that didn't stop them at all. Haha, I think they got even more persistent afterwards. I am truly glad I met them.”
Personal Story: To the Hospital
“Again...? I see. Thank you, Trey. Hmph, I'll have to schedule another visit once more."
> "Riddle? What's wrong?"
"Ah, Yuuken—It's Rose. They've gotten admitted to the hospital...again. (Y/N) is quite impulsive and tends to bite off more than they can chew. On more than occasion, like now, I would find out about their hospital admissions via Trey days or even weeks after."
>"Aren't you dating? Why aren't they telling you?"
"They claim that they withhold the information from me out of concern for my workload or out of fear of being a burden. Though that is—a sentiment I don't understand. Nothing is more important to me than their health."

R.B | RUGGIE BUCCHI
About: The Photo In His Wallet
"Where is it?! Man, I'm so fucked if I lost it—Oh?! Oi, Yuuken! That wallet's mine! Man, thanks a lot. I really would've been screwed over if it weren't for you." "Eh? The photo? Shishishishi curious, aren't cha? Hmmm...how 'bout this? You get me a steaming hot meat bun and I'll give you a story time about them."
Chat: A Hopeful Future
"My studies? Course I take them seriously! That's what's gonna' put food on the table one day. Plus, I wanna' give (Y/N) the life they deserve—What'd I mean? Well, if I'm going to be their husband, I want 'em to live comfortably. It's not like we need anythin' luxurious, anyways. As long as we're together and there's enough food to go by, it's going to be all right."
Personal Story: In Sickness and In Health
"....that's good to hear. Please look after 'em, granny. Love ya." The call ends and Ruggie sighs. "That's the best news I've received since."
>"News?"
"Guh-?! Man! What's with you and sneaking up on me!? Yeah yeah—you heard right...news. Granny just called me to talk about (Y/N), their health is looking up. Tell ya' what, I knew that deal with Azul was worth it. I managed to snag some medicine and send it home."
>"Oh? Medicine?"
"Yeah. Ever since my first year of high school, they were sick and bedridden. (Y/N)'s parents don't have enough money for a doctor, so there's not much they can do. Of course, I'm out here doin' my best to help too."
"I really...I really wanna see them up and runnin' again. Hey, who knows—maybe we'll get to make flower crowns for the village kids again...together."

About: An Interrogation
"Yuuken, you’ve met (Y/N), I hear. Well, as their partner, it's only right that I ask you about it. I assume you don't mind. So, what is your opinion of them? Nothing short of perfection, I hope."
"Hm? You think they're nice? Good then."
Chat: Busy Octoboss
"With all the deals, my maintenance of my academic ranking, and my position as Monstro Lounge's manager, my workload is quite substantial compared to most. And, I regret to say that it does get in the way of my personal life, including quality time with my lover. It tears at my heart, yet I cherish how they're so understanding and patient. Still, sometimes I can't help but think I am undeserving of them..."
Personal Story: Deep Sea Bonds
"My childhood is not something that I appreciate or want to remember. Yet, despite everything I've been through, I do think it is pleasant to look back on the days when I met them. You see, (Y/N) was bullied too. They were just like me, relentlessly bad mouthed and hurt by the kids around us. However, they never failed to greet me every day with a bright smile on their face."
>"What a sunny person."
"They'd also always have the courage and bravery to stand up for me, often taking the brunt of the bullying. I wish I could say I did the same for them...but I was far too cowardly back then..."
>"Wow. You two must be really close, then."
"Of course. They've been through a lot.Which is exactly why I won't allow anyone to speak ill of them anymore." Azul pauses, smiling slyly. "Say, Yuuken. You'll tell me if anyone casts aspersions on my Angelfish, won't you?"

About: A Helping Hand
"Hm? What's that? Ah, you’ve met my darling pearl. I see. I do notice how you’ve been frequenting Monstro Lounge lately…Have you perhaps acquired a romantic interest towards them? No? Hehe, Alright." "Now, to answer your question, yes, that is right; (Y/N) routinely comes over to visit and aid me in my Mountain Treks. I couldn't be more grateful for their assistance."
Chat: The Pearl Ring
"Oya? I see you're curious about the ring I've been crafting. Well, it's for (Y/N). You see, in merfolk culture, we create handcrafted jewelry to serve as a courting gift. This is one of many ornaments I plan on giving them. Though, this one is...particularly unique. Ah, well...(Y/N) Leech does have a nice ring to it, does it not?"
Personal Story: A Jaded Reaction
"Oya? (Y/N) is spending the night at Ramshackle? Whatever reason for?"
>"Grim wanted to have a game night."
"Ah. I see. How...lovely. What's that? My smile is frightening you? Oho, now is it? Hehe, my deepest apologies. We eels tend to be quite...protective. I so anticipate you to take good care of them. And fret not, as long as you keep them away from any harm, no disputes shall arise."
>"Uh...and if something happened?"
"What if something happened...? Well, I'm sure you wouldn't mind being hunted down the face of the earth, tied up, and pulled down to the deepest pits of the blue ocean, where no one can hear your anguished cries for help...Would you?"
>"..."
"Just joking. I would never do that."

About: A Sea Walnut
"(Y/N)? Aha~~~ You've heard of my little sea walnut? They're so adorable and squishy, yanno!—Is there a problem? If you got a problem with 'em, I'll squeeze you." "Oh? Not scared at all, huh? Ehe~ You sure are ballsy. Tread carefully now, shrimpy~!"
About: Ocean Currents
"Whenever a strong ocean current comes, sea walnut always huddles close to me and grabs my arm. They've always been afraid of being blasted away."
"They used to do that a lot when we were kids, but it never gets old. Hehe~ Sometimes, I lead them to places where the waves are strong, jus' so they can cling onto me! It's so funny to see 'em get afraid and scramble after me when I move too far away. "
Personal Story: Shark Attack
"Hmm~? Oh, what're these bite marks? Rad, aren't they? I got them after fighting a buncha' sharks."
>"Sharks?! Why would you do that?"
"To get these. It's shark teeth. Our anniversary is comin' up, and Jade suggested that I should make some jewelry for them. It's a merfolk courting thing. Azul 'n Jade told me to get them pearls, but I thought that was boring. So, I'm making one with shark teeth instead! Isn't that cool~?"
>"I-I guess, but what happened to the sharks?"
"Ugh. None of them were a fun hunt. The entire hoard swam away so fast. Can you believe it???… I’m not the typa eel who would let my prey get away that easily, though. And it’s not like I had anything better to do. Ehehe! There were so many of those sharks swarming around, but I managed to squeeze them all! Well, it was worth it in the end cuz I got what I wanted. I'll do anythin' for my little sea walnut~"

About: A Hearty Meal
“What am i doing? Well, I'm making some Roast Chicken with Sumac Flatbread. Oh? Who's (Y/N)? Ah, Kalim must have told you, huh. (Y/N) is my partner. They are truly wonderful."
"For example—Though I like to think I'm skilled at disguising my true feelings, the moment I go to see them, they already know what I'm thinking. They have a keen sense of intuition and always seem to know what I need and when I need it. Truly, I'm grateful for such a caring—Ah, I'm sorry. I was rambling again."
Chat: Snake-Eyed Envy
"I can't dispute that a lot of people back home are vying for their affection. That bothers me at times. As Kalim's babysitter-ehem, retainer, I don't have enough time to check in on them every day...However, as cheesy as it sounds, I have yet to meet someone who is as smitten with (Y/N) as I am."
Personal Story: World Left Unsaid
"I soon understood that I was more than the circumstances of my birth, all thanks to (Y/N). In fact, My bond with Kalim has become stronger and more genuine thanks to them. I...realized my hatred for Kalim was just my desire for my circumstances to be different...I didn't hate him at all. Without (Y/N), I would never have understood it."
>"They must be very important to you, Jamil."
"Absolutely. I was terrified that I might lose them after my overblot. But to my surprise, they stayed with me. Naturally, it hurt them, but they were really compassionate towards me and about how much I had to go through."
>"Do they know of what you feel?"
"I...I don't think (Y/N) realizes just how much I cherish them. I don't think now's the right time for that though. I've hurt them too much and I still have a long way to go before I fix things."

M.D | MALLEUS DRACONIA
About: He's Engaged?!
"I am, indeed, betrothed. Heh. Why are you looking so bewildered, Child of Man? If I'm going to be a king someday, it only makes sense that I would need someone to reign alongside me, no? At first glance, (Y/N) may seem aloof, but as you get to know them more, you'll see that they are actually incredibly lovely and warm."
"You never thought I was one for romance? My, my... What a bold statement, you best learn how to hold your tongue. Have you considered that I could use lightning to smite you where you stand?...Now, now—That was a joke. You don't have to cower in fear."
Chat: Safe And Sound
"My precious treasure tells me that I tend to get protective at times. Though can you really fault a lover for wanting to protect the one who is most important to them in this cruel, ruthless world. One where others will not hesitate to turn on you?"
Personal Story: The Art Of War
"I am actually the first of my lineage to wed someone who is not a noble. You see, (Y/N) is a knight-in-training. And, as you can probably guess, they served as my retainer. To see them at work was truly a magnificent sight to witness. They command attention and radiate strength. While I had always admired them, I could not bring myself to express my true feelings to them. Until...that night."
>"That night?"
"Yes. On the evening of Silver's 16th birthday, someone had rushed at me with a dagger in hand. (Y/N) was the first to respond and took the hit for me...The sound of their screams as the knife tore through their flesh was truly...horrifying."
>"That's horrible! What happened to the guy?"
"Worry not, he was taken care of accordingly....If there is anything I’ve learned from Lilia's many teachings, it’s that the worst calamities that befall an army arise from hesitation. To avoid further offensives, one must deal with and eliminate adversaries as soon as possible. Don't you think so?"

So I've seen some people criticize lately the deconstruction of the child hero trope, arguing that it originally existed as a way of empowering kids who feel ineffective and powerless. And yeah, kids DO have a notable lack of agency that as an adult, you really begin to understand more and appreciate, at least on my end. These are all fair arguments, the deconstruction of the deconstruction, and I don't think they're necessarily wrong. It's just...
Some stories are meant for other people? The thing about this generation is that it's got a LOT on its shoulders. This generation is the one that's tired and burnt out, it has to deal with the burden of a world that's imploding in on itself, and the expectation that they have to fix it. It feels like corporations and politicians are casually destroying the world, knowing future generations will be the ones to have to clean it up, so why should they care?
There's a lot of anxiety and angst about the sociopolitical sphere. We've got the rise of Linkin Park, we've got people becoming jaded with late-stage capitalism and wondering how they can even survive in this economy. The fantasy has shifted from large and grand stuff to simply being able to survive and make a humble yet satisfying living. Kids are becoming burnt out, and being gifted is more apparently not worth the hype.
So I imagine THAT's the appeal behind the deconstruction of the kid protagonist for modern audiences, the one that's like "Hey isn't this fucked up? Isn't this messed up? The fate of the world is on this kid's shoulders, they're just a child soldier?" Because I think it reflects a lot of people's frustration with the adults around them, that it feels like the adults have become useless and are just forcing them to do things on their own, and often for them.
For a lot of young people, it feels like they're being forced to do all of the emotional labor while parents and guardians who tend to fail them, especially for being queer, ultimately slack on their duties by guilt-tripping them; Saying they've already done so much providing shelter and food, so you should be grateful, how dare you expect emotional support and the like!!!
It's all a way to vent frustration over the ineffectivity, and even abuse, of parents and guardians. It's catharsis for angst, because it feels like there's so much wrong with the world; The internet and modern communication has led to this phenomenon of "infowhelming" where kids are constantly bombarded by news of all the world's ills. It's sensory overload, it's a Greta Thunberg situation where it's inherently ridiculous that a kid has to step up and fix things, and instead of acknowledging how much help they need, the adults have the audacity to congratulate this child and put them on a pedestal as the chosen one who will fix things for them. Instead of just taking responsibility themselves.
The "Kid Protagonist is a Child Soldier" deconstruction is an outlet for kids to explore darker emotions, to admit their angst is valid, that this is a really shitty situation and this is how they can deal with it. Growing up, I already had Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events, which DID play into the idea of kids cast into too much responsibility because of useless adults around them. It felt like a way for kids to cope with the fact that the world can be a very unfair place, it was cathartic in its acknowledgement of the frustration and its validity.
Plus, it's not as if all these deconstruction stories are saying that kids CAN'T have fun, that they can't do things, because kids DO want to do things!!! They want agency, they want to feel like they're making a difference! It's just that a lot of them also want the reassurance that the adults are still there for them as a support network, that they have people more experienced to fall back and rely on when it's too much; They can do their part but it's not ALL down to them, is that too much to ask for? The nuance of being able to do things, but not having to be the only one?
Sometimes kids like it both ways where they can be an adventurer but also recognize when some things messed them up, so they can have space to breathe before moving onwards. Sometimes they need a break because it IS taxing, but they’ll still go back to it. Sometimes they'll still do the work knowing how necessary it is, while wanting acknowledgement for how hard it was. People write about the traumatic effects of 'bad things' for a reason; They still want to see those bad things in media, for the catharsis of the coping and emotional fallout afterwards.
These defenses of the Kid Protagonist trope and how it resonated with kids from, say, the early 20th century is fair. It's true. But these deconstruction stories of today also apply, in that they're a power fantasy in a different way for different kids of a different generation, with different struggles. So I find it disingenuous to simply dismiss these deconstruction-type stories as just CinemaSins bathos, even if I understand that a lot of people are understandably tired of the MCU's "That just happened" attempts at self-awareness.
And I don't think kids of today are completely decrying straightforward depictions, it's just nice to have those, AND the deconstruction, to flip back and forth between as their mood needs. These types of stories where the protagonists realize they're child soldiers, like Animorphs -which itself was written for teenagers in all their angst- might simply... not be for some people. And that's okay, that's fine! Different stories resonate, different stories serve different purposes because they're by different people.

Okay so I'm not the best at questions but I thought up a couple for the triple divorce au
Have the boys ever accidentally been hurt by one of their parents while being kidnapped? Like maybe draxum's vines were a bit too strong, or big mama's goons a bit too rough?
How are their personalities different from cannon? They've been influenced by their parents, so obviously they wouldn't be quite the same. Donnie basically has (more) consistent access to praise from big mama, they probably aren't ignored as much between the three of them compared to just splinter, raph (and by extension the others) are encouraged to be violent by draxum.... So it would make sense if they were different from their cannon selves.
So, you've established that big mama has grown to love them (in her... Less than ideal way), and hopefully splinter does too, but does draxum care for them? Or does he just want them to exterminate the humans, and only sees them as a tool and something to work on, as well as use to be petty?
WHAT CRIMES HAVE THEY COMMITTED. SPILL THE TEA
So, splinter isn't as depressed, but does he still sort of ignore them due to emotions? Being an actor is probably exhausting sometimes, so maybe he's just so tired a lot, coupled with the fact that he doesn't get much time with them, that maybe he doesn't interact with them as much as the other two?
Have the boys ever been on the set with splinter (human form or otherwise)? Donnie specifically strikes me (and a lot of the fandom) as a theater kid, and maybe it'd provide some bonding time?
Does Hueso know about all the drama between the three parents? Like does Leo rant to him about it?
Do they all use their same weapons as in cannon? Do they use weapons at all? Do they use different ones, or a variety of them?
Expanding on the previous one, does Leo need to use swords to make portals? I've noticed that instead of swinging a sword around, he appears to just use his hands to create portals.
I just realized that was more than a couple. I kept thinking of more. I love your aus, and art! They're amazing!
YESSS triple divorce questions!!!!
1. Have the boys ever accidentally been hurt by one of their parents while being kidnapped? Like maybe draxum's vines were a bit too strong, or big mama's goons a bit too rough?
Very much so. It was worse when they were younger before Draxum and Big Mama actually started caring about them. Draxum less so because he didn’t want his experiments to be damaged but Big mama? Didn’t care much at all if the kids got roughed up by her goons, as long as she was there to tend to bumps and bruises, scolding her workers to gain favour from the boys. It's part of why the kids don’t fight back when they’re kidnapped. A sort of subconscious conditioning that they are less likely to get hurt if they go along with whoever.
2.How are their personalities different from cannon? They've been influenced by their parents, so obviously they wouldn't be quite the same. Donnie basically has (more) consistent access to praise from big mama, they probably aren't ignored as much between the three of them compared to just splinter, Raph (and by extension the others) are encouraged to be violent by Draxum.... So it would make sense if they were different from their cannon selves.
I won’t go into it individually but in general they’re more jaded I suppose? They had to deal with a lot growing up and now and they’ve sort of fallen into the realm of apathetic acceptance. And they are indeed more violent, not only from Draxum but they litrally grew up watching their three parental figures get into full blown battles all their life, plus their mama runs a fighting ring. To them violence is normalised and they don’t know what regular tolerances for that look like. Combine that with the fact they are spoiled rich kids who can get bailed out of consequences?
3.So, you've established that big mama has grown to love them (in her... Less than ideal way), and hopefully splinter does too, but does draxum care for them? Or does he just want them to exterminate the humans, and only sees them as a tool and something to work on, as well as use to be petty?
Draxum does care for them, in an also less than ideal way. He’s kinda like those parents who live vicariously through their kids, combined with an overzealous soccer mom.
4.WHAT CRIMES HAVE THEY COMMITTED. SPILL THE TEA
In order of who has committed the most crimes
Mikey - mostly arson some aggravated(and non aggravated) assault, vandalism
Donnie - Purple Dragons member, cybercrimes, lots of theft
Leo - has made it his goal to portal to different places and violate benign laws, breaking and entering, public disturbances
Raph - Usually a victim of wrong place at the wrong time but has caused his fair share of property damage
5.So, splinter isn't as depressed, but does he still sort of ignore them due to emotions? Being an actor is probably exhausting sometimes, so maybe he's just so tired a lot, coupled with the fact that he doesn't get much time with them, that maybe he doesn't interact with them as much as the other two?
Usually when the kids are with him Splinter insists they live normal human lives. He gave up on constantly trying to get them to school but he still encourages things like clubs and just generally hanging out being teens(all part of his being raised by the Hamato clan trauma). But for the kids it can often feel like getting shooed out of the house by their father during the little time they have together(and you know Splinter isn’t going to ACTUALLY communicate with them)
6.Have the boys ever been on the set with splinter (human form or otherwise)? Donnie specifically strikes me (and a lot of the fandom) as a theatre kid, and maybe it'd provide some bonding time?
All of the kids have been on set with him before. Being surrounded by people and security was one of Splinter's best ways to keep the other parents at bay. It was always in human form though as they all have cloaking broaches. So it was pretty common for one of the kids to step in for minor roles they needed children for. The only ones that have done big roles are Leo and Donnie. Donnie loves all the rehearsals and acting but hates the busy sets and bright lights. They have managed to get him in a voice acting gig a few times and he thrives in that. Leo’s definitely all in on the attention and grandeur of showbiz. However Mikey is trying to pump the break on any of them going down that path to avoid the child star pipeline(they already have enough trauma messing them up)
7.Does Hueso know about all the drama between the three parents? Like does Leo rant to him about it?
“Pepino I am not your therapist, if you are going to rant at least help wash dishes,”
Leo absolutely does. Hueso can roll his eyes all he likes but he ultimately encourages the behaviour. He is painfully aware that his restaurant is this kids one safe space. Also it is useful having constant tabs on the hidden cites two biggest crime bosses.
8.Do they all use their same weapons as in cannon? Do they use weapons at all? Do they use different ones, or a variety of them? does Leo need to use swords to make portals? I've noticed that instead of swinging a sword around, he appears to just use his hands to create portals.
Draxum would try to make them diversify and practise with a range of things but ultimately they prefer their mystic weapons like in the show. However they don’t use or carry them around much, preferring their mystic abilities. None of them actually need weapons to access their mystic powers. They’ve been practising the mystic arts since they were little and now it comes second nature to them. If they need their weapons, Leo can either portal them, or they can create some out of their own energy. It’s just not worth carrying around weapons when an overnight bag is far more useful to have on person.
To expand on that it’s worth it to say they’re powerful but not that powerful. Combat isn’t a focus of this au; it's all about the family drama. They definitely picked up more skills from their parents than their canonsselves did. But it’s not to the point they could take out any obstacles with ease.

I have to know are Karma and Maybe baby friends? Like I feel like they'd be good friends they're literally Flora and fauna fae. Like they'd definitely go on kid adventures in the park. Then somehow end up in the fae wild while hunting a squirrel or something. Only to get found by Ainsley who also ended up in the fae wilds by accident. Just 3 kids causing mayhem for any unfortunate local fae while their parents freak out cause they can't find them. Fast forward 3 hours later and Keegan is holding Maybe, who's trying to bite him a trait the little guy inherited from his mama, and karma whose oddly calm. (Probably cause she got 3 deals from 3 unfortunate fae in exchange for leaving them alone). König also 100% knew where they where but figured no fae would dare hurt his kid plus he thought it was funny how freaked out Ghost was....
They're play cousins! Love and Liebling are too close friends for their kids not to at least play together. They're growing up together much to Ghost and König's chagrin. Karma and Maybe are both flight risks, they're both predators who are prone to toddling after whatever they decide their next meal is.
Getting lost in the wild is the least of their problems, especially if they have Ainsley along for the ride. Ainsely is enough older than either of the babies that they can navigate the Wild. Keegan's taught them how to be fae since they were born, and they've spent enough nights snuggled up sleeping under the Wild's canopy that the trees don't bother them. I see Karma as both very adventurous and also liable to start sniffling and pouting when she's lost. The Maybe baby(Christ this kid needs a name) is König's son... The kid has the darting eyes of a predator and the biting habit to match, he's precocious due to Liebling's fretting.
Keegan holds Maybe by the ankle, arm outstretched to keep him out of biting range, holds Karma's hand while she pouts and asks a lot of questions that he thought he was past when Ainsley grew out of them. You're hitting the nail on the head with Karma being a baby debt collector, she's got Love's trait of being too pretty to really argue with and that extends to tricking fae.
Ghost is not happy about losing his kid. König doesn't worry about it. Keegan is used to this shit already, Ainsley is a leash child.

Oneshot – (FFN) (AO3)
Summary:
Skylor never really talked much about her childhood. It just wasn't important. Who wants to hear about that? However, a day off with Kai was probably the right time to tell him about the history she's been carrying around… right?
Phone in hand, Skylor walked out of her noodle shop through the back door, latching it behind her. She finally had a day off, and not too soon at all; she hadn't seen Kai in ages. She pulled up her messaging app with a smile.
FROM: Copycat (10:03 AM) TO: Hair Gel Hey, are you free? I managed to have a day off
FROM: Hair Gel (10:05 AM) TO: Copycat yeah, greenie gave us the day off yesterday he worked us until 7 wanna go do something ?
FROM: Copycat (10:06 AM) TO: Hair Gel You want to meat up at the park? *meet The weather's great today
FROM: Hair Gel (10:06 AM) TO: Copycat definitely! I'll see you in a few minutes?
FROM: Copycat (10:07 AM) TO: Hair Gel Copy that.
Skylor put away her phone with a smile. It would be a nice change to see him again; despite being engaged, they had spent little time together recently (of course, it was the noodle shop's fault, having several employees on holiday, but no matter). She rolled her shoulders back and set off on a quick jog, only taking a few minutes to reach the park. As she got to the entrance gate, she spotted a figure in a red hoodie waving to her from across the park. She smiled, waved back, and jogged up to meet him, giving him a big hug in greeting. "Hi, Kai."
"Hey, Sky!" Kai replied, warmly enveloping her in his arms. He kissed her temple, then let her go and smiled. "Long time no see."
"No kidding," Skylor laughed. "Sorry I've been so busy."
"Lots of business?"
"Oh yeah. We've had a lot of people on holiday recently. Plus, those new apartment buildings had a lot of Serpentine moving in." Skylor shrugged. "We had a lot of busy days."
"Makes sense." Kai took her hand. "Are you okay, being around so many Serpentine? I know you haven't exactly had a good experience with them." He gestured to a nearby bench, and they sat. "They've been starting to really come back to Ninjago this past few months."
Skylor sighed. "It's been weird, but I haven't had to deal with too many of them. How's training been for you?"
"Brutal. Lloyd keeps making up weirder and weirder exercises. Who comes up with one-handed burpees while wearing weights?" Kai laughed briefly. "It's working pretty well, though."
"Oh yeah? Your spinjitzu must be getting better." Skylor nudged his shoulder. "It would be nice to be able to do that; just in case any old cultists show up, you know."
"That would be great! It's an amazing skill. But… aren't all those guys in Kryptarium Prison or the Cursed Realm?" Kai's face fell.
Skylor's eyes fell. "There are still some stragglers. They're not really that nice to see– some of them are still really attached to the island." She sighed deeply. "Once, a gang of them tried to take me back. That wasn't fun."
"What? When was that?" Kai exclaimed.
Skylor shrugged. "I think it was last Friday? I'd just closed up the shop for the night."
"And you didn't tell any of us, because…"
"It wasn't an issue! I handled it. There wasn't a reason to bother you about it." She gave him a weak smile.
"Sky, almost being kidnapped and dragged back to the island isn't a bother," Kai responded, giving her an uncharacteristically soft look. A shiver ran up Skylor's spine. Since when was he good with this sort of thing?
"Exactly! It's just– whatever, you know? It wasn't even the first time." Skylor shook her head, combined with another shrug. "I just thought spinjitzu might help me next time." Was it just her, or did the wind feel colder?
"Skylor…" Kai breathed, taking her hand in his. Skylor felt the warmth of his hands, radiating up her body. "You can tell us about this kind of thing. You can trust us– you can trust me."
"I do trust you! I just thought it wasn't important. It's not like someone tried to burglarize the shop or anything."
"Of course it's important! You're important!"
"So? It doesn't matter. I can take care of myself, Kai."
"I know you can," Kai conceded, rubbing her hand comfortingly, "but you don't have to any more. Your safety matters, Skylor."
Skylor looked away, unable to meet his eyes. "I know, and I appreciate that, really. It's just… hard to believe that sometimes, you know? I still feel like I need to escape sometimes, just to be free. I didn't have that for a long time."
Kai nodded. "I get that." He paused, looking unsure. "Do you want to talk about it? Not that you have to."
Skylor chuckled and met his eyes again, managing to smile. "Are you really in the mood to hear about my issues?"
Kai laughed. "I live with Lloyd Garmadon. Not to mention the fact that all the rest of us have our own. It's not so unusual."
"Heh, fair enough. There's a lot to tell, though." She shifted on the bench, inching closer to him.
"That's fine. Do you feel safe? We could go back to your place, if that helps," Kai offered.
Skylor smiled, squeezing his hand. "Even if I felt like I was in danger, it wouldn't be a problem. After all, I have Ninjago's strongest ninja here to protect me." She winked at him, enjoying how he perked up at her comment. "Besides, it's about time I told you." She shifted in her seat.
-----
"My childhood was pretty weird, honestly. Being a kid on the island wasn't exactly terrible, but it wasn't fun either. Lots of adults, not many kids, and near-total isolation from the outside world tend not to be good elements when it comes to mental health." She shook her head. "One of the worst things was how much everyone believed in my father. It was like they thought he was their savior, you know? They hated how much attention I got in public– not that I got much in private, but they didn't know that."
Kai frowned. "They shouldn't have treated you like that. Especially your dad."
Skylor's eyes fell, a tiny smile on her face. "I know, but it's okay. At least he told me some stories about when I was pretty young. He liked to talk about my mother. He always said she believed in me."
-----
Skylor, only a baby, cried very loudly. It wasn't just because she had needs; she announced her presence. As she grasped at the air with her tiny hands, her father smiled uneasily down at her.
"I'm not so sure about this, dear. It's a bit… loud, isn't it?" Chen muttered, trying to soothe her.
"Chen, Skylor's not an it. She's our daughter. You can't just turn off her crying," Skylor's mother said with a smile. She toyed with Skylor's hair, tiredly drinking in the image of her husband and newborn daughter.
"Yes, right, darling. She's very pretty," Chen backtracked, gently rocking Skylor.
"She's not just pretty," Skylor's mother said with a smile. "I have a feeling she will be someone extraordinary."
"I'm afraid I'm going to drop her. What will happen if I drop her? Will that break her?"
"Just be gentle," his wife reprimanded, amused.
Skylor cooed, grasping at Chen's beard. "Ahh, I think she got her lack of hair from me! She wants my beard," Chen laughed. "Dearest, please let go!"
Skylor laughed and let go, happily laying her arms back down and yawning, while conveniently covering her mother's quietly labored breathing. "Be careful with your father, Skylor…" her mother commented.
Chen's face fell. "Are you all right dear? Do you need me to call the doctor?" He knelt by his wife's bedside.
"No, I'm fine. Really," his wife placated, waving her hand. "I'm just tired."
"If you say so," Chen relented, before smiling at Skylor again. "Our daughter will want for nothing. She's a daddy's girl, don't you think?"
"Yes, she is," her mother replied, smiling as her daughter fell asleep in Chen's arms. "I think she's going to be someone very special."
"Yes, she'll be special," Chen repeated. "She will be powerful..."
-----
"Of course, it's not like that lasted. My mother wasn't healthy, and my father knew it. He always said he wished he'd known she was dying earlier..." Skylor laughed quietly.
"That's… dark," Kai commented.
"Yeah, but it's just how it was." She shrugged. "It's not a long story; life on the island got repetitive pretty fast."
-----
Now four years old, Skylor lived a life of happiness, shielded from the bitter truths she would later know. She ran through the hallways of Chen's castle, laughing and playing with a makeshift sword made from two sticks and some rope as she fought off invisible ninja enemies. Panting from her exercise, she ran into her mother's room. "Mommy! Did you see me! I defeated the ninja!"
"Yes you did, darling," her mother said with a smile, before devolving into a coughing fit.
Skylor's grin fell off her face, fear taking root in her eyes. "Are you okay, Mommy?"
"I'm fine, dear," her mother got out between coughs. "Can you go get your father to come here, please?"
Skylor nodded, all thoughts of games gone. "Yes, Mommy…" She ran out of the room, almost ramming into Clouse on the way.
"Be careful where you're going," Clouse sneered.
"I'm sorry Mr. Clouse," Skylor said hastily. "Do you know where my daddy is?"
Clouse sniffed. "Master Chen is currently in a business meeting with an important man from the mainland. He does not have time to be disturbed by children."
Skylor pouted. "Mommy said she needs to see him. She was coughing again."
Clouse rolled his eyes. "He is in his study." Upon seeing her beaming face, he turned and walked away, while Skylor ran towards the study.
Skylor knocked loudly on the door. "Daddy!"
"Is that my Skylor I hear?" Chen called from behind it, opening the door.
"Daddy, there you are!" Skylor ran in, hugging his legs tightly. "Mommy wants to see you."
Chen smiled, picking her up. "Well, let's go see her then!" He turned to the man in his study– a dark, tall man with a curly brown beard, dressed in clothing decorated with feathers and leaves. "If you'll excuse me, I have other business to attend to. Enjoy your trip home! I'm sure your son is anxious to see you again– what was his name, Bolobo?" He grinned widely, giggling quietly. "It would be a shame to keep you from him any longer."
The man nodded and left the room, seemingly frightened. Skylor hugged her father tightly. "Daddy? Mommy was coughing again. Is she going to be okay?" She looked up at him, uncertainty clear on her face.
Chen's smile faltered, no longer reaching his eyes. "Yes, darling, she will be okay. Now, where is she?" He walked out of the office, looking around. "I just can't find the way around this place like you can, Skylor!"
Skylor laughed, pointing down the hallway. "She's there, Daddy! You remember!"
"Ah, yes, there she is! You're quite the wayfinder," he said to his daughter, smiling again. "It's not so easy for an old, old, old man like me." He pushed open the door to his wife's room. "Hello, dear. How are you feeling?"
His wife smiled weakly. "As well as I can." She coughed weakly into her sleeve. "It's getting harder to breathe."
Chen's face fell, mirroring his little daughter's. "I'm calling the doctor again. There must be something we can do."
His wife smiled, shaking her head. "Darling, we've tried everything. Not even mainland doctors would be able to help me. It's almost time for me to go– I can't keep the spirits waiting. The next generation has to have the world and make it theirs."
Skylor sniffed, tearing up. "What do you mean, Mommy? Where are you going?" Chen frowned as she climbed out of Chen's arms and curled up into the crook of her mother's elbow. "We need you."
Her mother sighed, smiling sadly as she cuddled her daughter close to her. "The First Spinjitzu Master needs me too. I have to go meet him. When I do, I promise I'll watch over you. You'll never be alone– I'll love you forever." She kissed the top of Skylor's head, before turning away to cough into her arm. "I love you so much."
Skylor nodded, now fully crying into her side as her father watched, her mother slowly slipping away.
-----
Kai entwined his hand with hers. "Sky… I don't know what to say. I'm sorry– not that that really helps…"
Skylor squeezed his hand, smiling a little. "It's okay. We're kind of the same that way, huh? You found your parents again, though."
"I guess. Do you miss her?"
"...I can't really tell." She shrugged, leaning against Kai. "After she was gone, my father sank into a deep depression, so Clouse took over running the island. That also meant helping train me to be the perfect pawn, all the while taking my father's attention for himself and away from me. Most of all, he wanted a title. All the while, my father started just… going nuts."
"Like how he was when we were there?" Kai asked.
"Yeah. At first it was his war meetings, and then his business with the noodle company. Eventually, even just me snagging some fortune cookies without permission was enough to make him ballistic."
-----
Fifteen-year-old Skylor panted heavily, drenched in sweat as she tossed away a blunt training sword. She pushed her bangs back, hoping to alleviate the heat. "Stupid snakes…"
Above her, Clouse sneered at her from an observation deck. "Sloppy form as always. Name-calling is hardly professional, miss Skylor. If I were anyone else, I might think you didn't care what your father thought of you."
Skylor scoffed. "That was my fastest time yet! He'd be proud of me, unlike you." She shook her head, muttering to herself. "Who does he think he is?"
Clouse crossed his arms. "I am your father's most trusted advisor, and more unbiased than him. It is my duty to make sure his daughter does not make him out to be a fool."
Skylor sighed heavily. "Of course. Can I be done? Michael said he wanted to show me something cool he got during his trip to the mainland." She wiped her forehead again. "It's hotter than a crucible out here..."
Clouse rolled his eyes. "Fine, go on. Don't do anything dishonorable; it would be a shame if you were found doing something… compromising."
Skylor shuddered. "Yeah, okay." She ran out of the training ground, only to stop short as she saw her father, waiting in the hallway. She hastily stopped and bowed. "Father!"
Chen smiled. "Oh, Skylor! There you are. I've been hearing about your training sessions from Clouse."
Skylor's eyes widened. "Yes, Father? I've been working hard, I promise–"
"This can't keep happening," Chen said, cutting her off. "You need to concentrate! From what I've been told, your form and technique have been abysmal lately."
"But Father, I defeated three of your lieutenants today! Isn't that proof that I'm doing well?"
"Top form, Skylor. Top form! You need to work harder!" Chen snapped.
Skylor sighed, hanging her head. "...yes, Father."
"Good, good," Chen replied. "There's also the matter of some rumors I've been hearing. Is it true that you are able to use the power of our guest from a few days ago?"
Skylor blinked. "You mean that man from the mainland?"
"Who else would I mean?" Chen snapped. "Is it true or not?"
Skylor nodded quickly. "Yes, Father. Can I show you?"
"Yes, yes, please do!" Chen responded, clapping his hands with glee. "I'm eager to see if you can do what your mother could, Skylor."
Skylor smiled, scrunching her face in concentration. After a moment, she opened her eyes to see a flower, having sprung to life in her hand. "...I can grow flowers so far."
Chen's smile widened. "Oh, this is lovely! Just like your mother." His smile briefly fell, before he resumed his dramatic gesturing. "It would appear you are an elemental master, Skylor. We can use this!" He plucked the flower from Skylor's hand. "Daughter, I will tell Clouse to start going a bit easier on you, but only if you promise to work very hand and not slack off. You must learn how to use these powers."
Skylor nodded, beaming. "Of course, I promise! I'll work harder than ever."
"Good, good. That's what I like to hear!" Chen sniffed the flower, then dropped it on the floor and walked off. "Make sure to keep your word, daughter!"
-----
Skylor shook her head. "I wish things had been different."
Kai nudged her gently. "Did something happen?"
She nodded. "Lots of things. Over the years, life on the island got worse and worse. I should have realized something was wrong. I should have said something, but I was too afraid to do anything." She shook her head, squeezing Kai's hand and making her free hand into a fist. "Nothing I did was good enough. If I made a mistake, he cheered me on one minute, while threatening me the next. It got to the point where I couldn't meet his astronomical standards."
Skylor growled quietly. "No matter what, I was wrong, and it was always my fault."
-----
Several years later, Skylor panted heavily as she stood at the end of a rigourous obstacle course. She glared at it, shaded her eyes, and looked up a hill at Clouse and Chen. "How was that? Good enough?"
Chen shook his head. "Try again, Skylor. You barely beat your record! You must be the best of the best. Remember the creed of the Anacondrai?"
Skylor groaned quietly. "Only one can remain…"
Chen nodded. "That's right, Skylor. Now, try it again! And Clouse, have someone bring me some noodles! I'm starving up here!"
Skylor scoffed quietly. "Yes, Father." She trudged to the start of the course and launched herself into it again, only to stumble on a ledge and cry out in pain.
Skylor winced as interference rang out through a megaphone. "Skylor, if you will not do this the right way, I won't allow you to participate in the tournament! Try again, or I won't see you for the rest of the day," Chen ordered.
Skylor nodded, blinking away tears, but stumbled as she walked back to the start. Chen shook his head as he saw her bend over in pain. "Skylor, get out of my sight. You're too tired to continue today. We have two weeks left before the tournament begins– I hope you will be able to continue before then." He waved her away, and she nodded meekly before limping away. As she walked away, Clouse met her in a hallway.
"Well, it seems you now realize exactly how disappointed he is. Do you know how much he has bet on your success?" He sneered at her. "Of course, I'm not all that surprised. You've never seemed to amount to much."
Skylor glared at him, putting her foot down fully and wincing at the pain. "You say that, yet he still loves me. You're just a henchman– you don't even have a title of lordship! He'll always choose me first."
"Ah, but that's where you go wrong. I worked my way to this position. All you had to do was be born. Would Master Chen really choose a sniveling little girl over his most proven, most loyal advisor?" He paused for a moment. "I think not."
Skylor laughed briefly before coughing from her heavy breathing. "As if he'd betray his own daughter. If there's anyone he's ever loved, it's me and my mother– not you."
-----
Skylor smiled, pushing the memories to the back of her mind as she refocused on the present. "Seeing you on that ferry was the best and worst thing to ever happen to me, Kai."
Kai blushed. "Uh, what exactly do you mean by 'worst?'"
Skylor laughed faintly. "You turned my world upside down! I had all these new feelings and didn't even understand them– not to mention that you were my enemy. I was supposed to steal your powers and become a snake so I could help take over Ninjago, not help take down my father and defend an entire country." Her smile fell. "When my father suspected I had feelings for you, he was furious at first. And once he calmed down, he told me I needed to use you to win the tournament. He made me spy on the Alliance, with you as my in."
Kai smirked and nudged her. "Hey, don't beat yourself up over it. It all worked out in the end, didn't it?"
Skylor nodded. "Yeah. It's okay now, I think. I don't always feel good about it now, but it's at least better." She let go of Kai's hand and crossed her arms. "Besides, it's not like I hate him, even though my life was horrible. He's dead. It doesn't matter." She glared at the ground.
Kai put an arm around her back. "Sky, it's okay to not think he's a good person. He manipulated you, he… Zane told me once that victims of abuse don't always know what's going on when it's happening. I don't want to label it or anything– I don't know anything about this stuff– but could it have been that?"
Skylor shook her head. "Yeah, it could've. It was abuse, or something like it; no use trying to deny it. He made me a pawn and said he loved me, promising that my mother would have wanted it or that it could get us to the mainland. He dangled that freedom over my head for years; it was all I ever wanted." She growled in frustration. "In hindsight, it seems like it couldn't have been that bad, but it was! And I just can't get over it. Shouldn't I be over it?"
Kai shook his head, murmuring to her. "You don't need to 'get over it,' Sky. It's not going to go away completely, but that's okay. It'll stop hurting eventually, I promise."
"And if it doesn't?" Skylor murmured, pressing up against him.
"It will." Kai pulled her close. "Lloyd always says he feels better after talking about stuff like this. If you need to talk about this again, just call me, okay?"
Skylor nodded, smiling faintly. "Okay. Thanks for listening."
"Anytime, Sky." Kai kissed her hair.
Skylor took a deep breath, stabilizing herself. "Do you want to go back to my apartment? I really don't feel like being out in the city today. We could watch a movie…?"
Kai smiled. "I'd like that. Come on." He helped her up from the bench, and together they walked back to Skylor's apartment hand-in-hand under the midday sun, with lighter yet wearier hearts.

I think a Batman/DetCo crossover would be perfect especially in the context of how fucking insane Shinichi's parents are.
I was thinking and I realized they're a mix of the Drakes (neglectful in the "never being home" kinda way, rich but it doesn't seem like their child sees a lot of that money) and Bruce ("how'd you learn how to shoot a gun" "my father spent a summer with me in Hawaii to teach me" what an insane scene that was. Not to mention the "yeah. It's a good idea to traumatize our child via fake kidnapping to teach him a lesson about stranger danger :)" and "Shinichi, dear, I know you're 6yo but come investigate this suicide with me sweetie") but they're also above worse (willing to falsify police and government documents for son).
Would Bruce love the Kudos or hate them? On one hand, Yusako definitely has them figured out. He's kinda like Alfred that way.
The Kudos get invited to an event, something like an award ceremony or some kind of cinema festival. They decide to bring Conan as a decoy for Shinichi related questions (usually they'd just use school as an examination why he wasn't there but they've been saying Shinichi is traveling for a case nowadays and it wouldn't do well to contradict that).
Bruce is the one that organized whatever event this is. I wanted the Drakes alive but I also want Damien to meet Conan. So. Sorry Janet and Jack. I'm going full Batfam for this.
Clark Kent is there, though he's technically a plus one. Cat is doing a piece for the event, specifically she wants to interview the Kudos, which is a feat as of late, and needed a last minute plus one (the Kudos are volatile and no one knew if they'd actually show up. When they did, Cat had to rush to get to Gotham before they decide they got bored and fucked off).
Of course, Cat immediately latches onto Conan's existence and assumes that he is why the Kudos have been out of the public eye. But not in the actual real way. She starts by asking general questions about them, their careers, and the event they're at at the moment.
And then she hits them with: "so. I see you've expanded the family. How does Shinichi feel about having a little brother?"
Which breaks just about everyone involved in the conversation.
Immediately Yukiko goes into actress gear. "Oh no he's- this is Conan, Conan Edogawa. He's our nephew. He's been staying with a friend of ours in Japan, but we thought he'd like coming back to the States for a bit!" All while smiling. Meanwhile Conan goes through all the stages of grief and is already building up the script for when he's gonna have to kiss ass to Ai for ending up in the Daily Planet.
Yusako senses this and tries to mitigate the situation a bit. "I'd appreciate if you didn't put him in your article. He's just a kid. And the focus is supposed to be on the event and our achievements, not a gossip piece about our private life"
But then Clark speaks up. Unfortunately he's been listening to the conversation and keeping track of everyone's reactions to everything. And he has a good memory. He has also listened to enough rants from Batman about the KID Thief to know more details than the average person.
"Aren't you the KID killer?" Everyone blanches. "I mean, that child from the KID Thief heists?"
"Uhm..." Conan is stumped. He's really bad at this. Of all the things his parents did, they never left him to deal with the vultures alone. But that also means that in his entire High School Detective career he had more of a "avoid at all costs" kinda mentality when it came to talking to the press directly. Sure they've made articles about him, but he's never met anyone interview him directly.
But again, Yukiko to the rescue. "I think that's enough. I hope you can respect our wishes." She puts her hands on Conan's shoulders as she redirects him away from them.
Clark is a little worried, a little suspicious. But he stops Cat from following them by reiterating that he's a kid and the Planet is not a tabloid newspaper.
Of course pt2, things go as things go when Conan is around a respectable amount of people and someone dies. Immediately Conan is on high alert, but so is Bruce who's worried about how someone could've managed to successfully commit a murder under his nose.
So, the investigation begins. On technically 4 sides. Yusako is doing his own detective work, but he's staying on the sidelines and letting the others be at the center of it all. Conan's special interest has been activated so he's in full inspection mode and putting himself in everyone's business. Bruce immediately contacts Commissioner Gordon, and starts distracting the people at the event while sussing out anyone who might have had a motive and/or opportunity. Clark has engaged his investigative journalism side and is already gathering evidence.
Meanwhile Damien is trying to convince Bruce to let him threaten people with unimaginable violence to make them comply and confess. But then he gets distracted by Conan and starts trying to babysit him but in a "I'm better than you tsk you're so immature" kinda way. Keeping him out of the way by yelling at him and dragging him away physically. Conan is not deterred.
All in all, it's a regular day for Conan, a particularly interesting day for the Kudos, a surprisingly weird day for Bruce, and a very annoying day for Damien.

I really liked your Vash and Knives isekai, so good. Especially the music part. Made me wonder what kind of music do you think Vash and Knives would make together and what would they make on their own. Like would Vash be more pop and rock and Knives more orchestral and indie. I wanna hear more on your thoughts on this if you wanna share. Just go pig wild!
honestly I hope this makes sense cause I don't actually really know a lot about music smbdkbs but either way I had fun writing this!!
•Nai does make a lot of orchestra music, although I think he'd mainly stick to the piano, he does explore with other instruments often. I could see him making music that sounds a lot like boss battle music. or, like similar to his theme, music that sounds a bit heroic. sometimes he'll make the most gut wrenching piano piece.
•he doesn't really write lyrics much since he uses music as a way to deal with his emotions and it makes him feel way too vulnerable. Nai won't even show Vash some of the stuff he has written. at least, not yet (he may show Vash some overtime as they've healed and worked through their past.)
•but when he does, he writes complex lyrics, never actually, truly writing about his feelings. always leaves a lot up to interpretation but he doesn't mind. (kinda likes the mystery to it in a way lol)
•every once in a while he kinda writes based around the past and everything that's happened.
•like the anger and confusion he had as a kid, finding Tesla, the betrayal of Rem and Vash choosing humans over him. a song of the hope of having wanted to make a paradise for himself, Vash and their sisters, then for it to be ripped away when he showed up on earth. but then the song becomes filled with hope again, Nai wishes to live a future where both him and Vash are happy on Earth.
•(also Nai is lowkey jealous that Vash's theme is like a cowboy theme and makes one of his own.)
•Vash writes a lot more happy and upbeat songs! they're usually about love, happiness, looking to a bright future. he wants to bring happiness and hope to people around the world.
•Vash mainly focuses on pop, rock, and edm, but he really wants to try his and at a variety of different genres and instruments. he finds it really fun and challenging. plus he loves learning about the music of each culture, why the music is the way it is, the significance of it, it's history. Vash would also love to work with other producers!
•trimax Vash especially, would write about a mosaic of love that grows as people close to it dies. because even though those people are now gone, they will still live on through memories that the mosaic holds and proudly shows. (saw a hc that Vash talked to the girls after vol.10 and Milly told Vash that he was a mosaic of those he loved and that they would live on through him or smth like that. it hasn't left my mind since..)
•he also makes music about things that have happened to him on Earth. he wrote a song about the time he found a pretty necklace and he wanted to buy it to give to you, but he had ended up forgetting his wallet so he had go go home. when he got back to the store the necklace was gone and as he was moping, walking through other stores, he found another necklace that he thought was prettier, so he bought it and rushed home to give it to you. very silly song, very dramatic. lots of others like that.
•Once made the most heartfelt, sorrowful song about loss and when you asked him if he's doing alright in response to hearing the song, Vash turns to you with the biggest pout and puppy dog eyes. "I dropped my donut the other day:(" you stare at him as he pouts more, "it was a really good donut!:(("
•he would absolutely make a song based off of Gitchee Gitchee Goo from Phineas and Ferb and dedicate it to you-
•when the twins work together it's a mix of orchestra and edm. at first it was really rough, especially since they were just in the beginning of trying to fix their relationship and Vash was also still trying to find his style with music. there's a lot of clashing between instruments, style and composition. it was really all over the place.
•but over time they've learned how to create their own harmony within their combined chaos. they learn how to smoothly transition from orchestra to edm and combine the two at the same time. (I don't like projecting too much but I can see them making music kinda like how Xtrullor does? like Nirmiti, Samsara, Supernova, Earthsplitter and Ichor specifically)
•sometimes they'll also create a piano piece together and Vash may even write lyrics for the piece.
•also! a few months after they've fully healed they decide to burn the sheet music and files for their first song as a way of finalizing the healing process. as much as the song means to them (especially Vash since he sees it as Nai willing to open up to him,) once it's been deleted it feels very cathartic and they commemorate the beginning of this new chapter with a song that's warm and hopeful
•if you're interested in music in any way, making it, or just learning about it, the twins are happy to help teach you! they'll explain everything that they can and Nai is secretly excited to teach you how to play the piano. (Vash is too but then he realizes just how happy Nai is about you sharing an interest in the piano and let's Nai do most of the teaching.)
•or! if you also make music they'd love to have you work on songs with them! if you're on the fence about for whatever reason, they're begging (Vash with the puppy dog eyes and Nai,, staring at you and trying to discreetly ask for your help) and giving you all the reasons why they'd love to have you work with them and hyping you up.
•doesn't matter what type of style or genre you mainly use, they'll gladly learn how to incorporate with their own styles too. making music with you is one of their favorite things to do.

Ages ago, I talked about a portal fantasy idea I had, titled Lily Between Worlds. The premise was that a girl fell into a portal fantasy world, but didn't fall into any adventures. She just had to settle into ordinary life there and wait for a portal to open up to take her home. Except no portal ever showed up, and it's not likely one ever will. She's getting older, and the family she's staying with can't support her forever. So she has to consider settling down--namely, marriage. Which is a huge deal because starting an adult life here means she's giving up on any chance of going home. Plus trying to find someone to marry when you're literally from different worlds is difficult.
It never moved much beyond that initial premise, because I couldn't develop the world or the characters. But it's been coming to mind again, and I have some ideas for worldbuilding that would offer some more detailed plot possibilities, and I want to talk about it before I lose it completely.
The first breakthrough came with the idea that I could adapt an idea from my Lost Library universe as the basis of the worldbuilding. Centuries ago, some calamity caused large hunks of land to break off and float in the sky. This broke up societies and left the people on these landmasses isolated from each other for a long time, and they're only recently coming back into contact with each other. It's useful for Lily's story, because we can say the calamity that fractured their world also opened up fissures to other worlds, and some people here are aware that people sometimes fall through from our Earth.
The other key idea is that this world is dangerous. The calamity that broke the world also caused a population explosion of various chimera-ish beasts, many of which attack humans. Society is built around the fact that we need to be able to protect people from these beasts. Women and children need to be protected, because the monsters go after the weak. Men are expendable and need to defend women and children--but women also need battle skills because it's dumb not to know how to defend yourself. There is also a lot of competition over resources--I'm not sure what, but maybe one of them is the same energy that caused the fracturing and can be used to power technologies. Things have settled down in recent centuries and they've come to a level of civilization (I'm thinking Regency-ish) where you can have classes and trades not totally devoted to survival--but those survival skills are still highly valuable.
Lily is not adventurous. She's a very quiet artistic type who heard about all the dangers of this world and decided she was never going to step outside alone. She's spent the last few years in the household of a scholar who's fascinated with Earth. He's got a few kids several years younger than her, and she settled in among the children, focusing on learning the language and the basics of this world. But now she's come of age and has to enter the adult world. Even though she's been in this world for years, we still get the portal fantasy sense of discovery because she's learning all the details of the culture surrounding courtship and adult responsibilities. This is a domestic fantasy, focused on the interpersonal relationships and the culture of this specific place. No world-changing quests, just characters interacting. At most, a few monster attacks to liven things up.
The story would focus on Lily's attempt to find a husband. She works with a young matchmaker-in-training (who thinks she's from some distant floating island rather than another world) to find good candidates. It's tough because Lily has no family ties here and outsiders are suspect. She's got a lot of the feminine skills this society values, but has zero combat ability--a major handicap when a good wife has to be able to protect the children from monsters. This world values beauty, social status, and strength. Lily's got the first and needs a husband who can provide the other two (and is willing to overlook her lack).
We can use the suitors to explore different facets of this world and Lily's personality. A good partner needs to be similar enough that they can connect, but different enough to draw Lily out of her comfort zone; he needs to draw out her good qualities without reinforcing her flaws. She could interact with a lot of different men, but four types are coming to the forefront as potential husband material.
The scholar: A young man who works with the scholar who houses Lily. Fascinated by Earth, knows Lily's true history. He and Lily casually get along, but don't quite gel. (He treats her a bit like a science experiment, for one thing). He doesn't have much strength to protect Lily, but he's got a decent status (enough that his family would want him to marry better than Lily). He would be the safe choice, allowing Lily to more-or-less remain the same woman she is now.
The warrior: An ideal catch by this world's standards. Very high status, excellent combat ability. Already has several heroic achievements. Socially awkward enough to need the help of a matchmaker to attract a wife. He and Lily share almost no interests, but her dynamic with him would force her to confront her own prejudices about this world--just because he's a fighter, it doesn't mean he's brainless or has no feelings. Could really draw Lily outside her comfort zone, but maybe too much so.
The explorer: A man who has spent the last several years exploring far-flung floating isles and has only recently returned home--to a lot of rumors and distrust. He's got strength, but almost no status; he's scandalous to this neighborhood. Lily likes his travel stories, and he believes her tale of being from another world--he's seen portals before. They get along well enough, but he's as adventurous as Lily is cautious. He says he wants to settle down, but he's not the type to be happy with an ordinary life. A life with him would be either a life here under the cloud of scandal, or a life of dangerous travel. But he would draw out Lily's adventurous side and introduce her (and us) to more details of this world.
The artist: A man who's working on some project for a high-status person in the neighborhood. He and Lily connect most on a personal level, sharing a love of art. He's got a middling sort of status, and is a weakling. Perhaps he's disabled from some monster attack; it would explain why he'd been allowed to take up a sedentary (and frivolous) trade (though if that's the case and she *doesn't* choose him, it could look like we're reinforcing this society's idea that he doesn't deserve to marry). He would be sort of like the male version of Lily; they would connect very easily, but he wouldn't push her to grow.
At the moment, the explorer is most compelling as endgame, though I can see potential in the warrior and artist as well. The interactions with all four can shape her character. There'd also be subplots of other monster attacks and political/social conflicts happening in the background of this courtship.
I'd probably have to end the story with Lily and her chosen guy teaming up to defeat some kind of dangerous beast--showing that Lily has developed the courage to face this world's dangers and has found a partner capable of facing them with her.
If anyone's read all that--decent ideas, or too many holes? Interesting or the dullest thing you've ever heard? I'm treating this as a worldbuilding game for the moment, so you can play along if you like.

you know sayuri kinda looks like she has the dead mom hairstyle, kinda
so time to give masaru (and chika) some angst
aka sayuri dying and Masaru drops out of school to get a job and raise his sister, over working himself and having bad habits of caring more about others health than his own
Chika worries about her brother and the changed that happened to him since their mom death
Satsuma didn't know that sayuri died and when he finds that out plus masaru joining DATS he tries to be a parental figuur to him (like a dad or uncle)
I'm so glad someone finally mentioned this bc I've always thought that abt her hair LMAO Anyways I will give u my perspective w/ Sayuri's death, tho it's a LIL different from some of what you suggested, but I like the idea a lot and have thought about it before.
Tumblr media
Firstly, I think Masaru and Chika do get financial support; Sayuri is a stay-at-home mom with two kids in the anime; I'm assuming DATS gave her money in compensation for Suguru's disappearance, especially considering Captain Satsuma and Suguru were friends, as well. So with her death (I'm just chalking it up to illness), the financial support fell to the kids- they get to keep their house and I think they both stubbornly want to so when Dad comes back, he knows where they are (bc mind u canon masaru is only 14; he's still just a kid, and is bound to have some childlike hope/logic) Masaru does drop out and start working- for two reasons. One - His temper and behavior is pretty bad in school- he struggles dealing with his grief, and eventually just can't deal with it anymore; he's getting into more serious fights and hurting other kids, and it has a negative effect on Chika so he just drops out. He was also failing because he almost never studied, just too stressed. Two - Part of him is afraid of what will happen if he doesn't provide or take care of Chika on his own; yes they've got the money, but what if it's limited? Furthermore- he wants her to have nice things. They're given enough to survive, but after losing both their parents, he wants Chika to be happy. Sure, he can't spoil her, but he likes being able to buy her nice things when he can.
He works a few odd jobs- I think the last job he really worked before he ended up meeting Agumon and getting to DATS was at his friends shop- the one there is an episode about? But when it closed he lost it, and was inbetween work. He meets Agumon and Satsuma does recognize Masaru; he is aware of his situation, as Sayuri had asked him to make sure they're taken care of, but I guess he didn't realize how bad things had gotten on Masaru. Instead of Yoshino going to seek Masaru out, the Captain does personally, and tells him a bit about his dad and his relationship with Sayuri. He outright offers a job for Masaru at DATS, and it only gets solidified after Masaru is able to get Agumon to evolve. Satsuma also does this personally to allow Masaru to keep his privacy; it's his choice if he wants the others to know his personal situation. (Masaru doesn't outright talk about it, but he doesn't keep it a secret, either. It is what it is, but he does appreciate being able to tell them on his own)
Tumblr media
(I believe in giving Masaru different hairstyle supremacy)
Masaru ofc takes it because he's able to work, and the pay is ggood enough that he feels a bit better about spending more time at home. Satsuma gives him mornings/early afternoons off, allowing Masaru to do housework, cook, etc., Masaru is also very grateful to Agumon- and instead of being hungry af for Sayuri's fried eggs, he obsesses over Masaru's. The companionship and someone to chat with while he does stuff helps Masaru, and he doesn't get nearly as restless anymore given his fights with Digimon make him feel more fulfilled. (There is a part of him that's terrified of something happening, leading him to leave Chika behind; I think he's very much more hesitant about going to the digital world, and needs her encouragement before he goes. As much as Masaru the son wants to find his dad and have a parent, Masaru the brother doesn't want to abandon Chika. I also don't think he goes to the digital world at the end of the series; sure their dad is back, but Masaru's been Chika's main parent figure. I don't think he has it in him to leave her.) While I didn't draw her, Yoshino is definitely really sympathetic, and often buys Masaru and Chika snacks, and gives him rides to places if she's not busy. It becomes a little routine for her and Masaru to go grocery shopping together, and Lalamon often points out how much better Masaru is at housework than Yoshino- obviously to tease and fluster her. She also tries to be there when Masaru has his off and down days- but they all kinda learn pretty quick to just... let him simmer for a bit, and he comes around on his own. Masaru is probably depressed, and it manifests as quiet, slow days, or in angry bursts where he doesn't understand his sadness. Touma and Masaru of course buttheads at first, though Touma is fairly shocked and surprised when he hears Masaru say he takes care of Chika himself because his parents are gone. Masaru doesn't beat around the bush, saying Mom passed away and Dad went missing. Of course they kinda butt heads still when the ever proud and abrasive Masaru doesn't like pity, but Touma, I think, opens up a bit and explains his "pity" is empathy, because his mom died, and his little sister is sick, so he gets it. While I definitely feel thats information Touma doesn't give lightly, I think it's because Touma is rather caring towards Chika too, and at least he had others to take care of him and take care of Relena in his absence. Satsuma does enlist in Touma's help in tutoring Masaru- it's soemthing they'll do in quiet evenings, though Yoshino often has to butt in to get Touma to tone down his genius speak to something a bit less overwhelming. This will be dubbed orphan AU in tags. I will definitely come back, but please ask/prompt more as well hehehe. I definitely want to explore Masaru's relationships w/ some of the adult figures in his life- Satsuma, Yoshino. And ofc how Ikuto would be different given it was Sayuri's motherly affection that had a big effect on him.

Beatrice smiled so much when she got his text she just bolted out of bed and hurried to place her phone somewhere to support it upright. She wasn’t complaining about having a video call with Rooster so early in the morning, nor that she had a bedhead and looked…er…less than bright, but she was so glad to hear from him.
And her heart melted when he said, through the screen “...you look beautiful.”
Rooster's words hung in the air, and Beatrice couldn't help but blush at the unexpected compliment. Her hands unconsciously fidgeted with the hem of her sleep shirt as she chuckled, "You're too kind, Roos. It's just the morning glow." and she shrugs, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear then settled into a more comfortable position, leaning against a few pillows she had hastily gathered.
Rooster smiled on the other end of the screen, his eyes reflecting a genuine affection. "No, seriously, Bea. You always look beautiful to me, no matter the time of day. How have you been?"
Beatrice's smile widened at his words. "I've been managing, you know. The usual chaos with the kids, but Shells,Ev have been helping and I have it under control. How about you? How's everything on your end?"
Rooster's expression shifted slightly, his wedding band appearing into view as he rubbed his eyes with his ring finger. "We're still dealing with some unexpected twists in the mission, but we're navigating through it. I wanted to check in with you and see how you're holding up."
Her gaze softened as she listened to his words. "I appreciate that, Roos. It means a lot to know you're thinking of us, even with everything you have on your plate. The twins are settling in well, by the way. They've been such a joy." she pauses, “They do cry a little bit more than Nikki did.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah!”
A genuine smile appeared on Rooster's tired face. "I'm glad to hear that, gorgeous. I miss them, and I miss you."
Beatrice's heart swelled with warmth at his words. She was quiet for a few seconds before saying, "I miss you too, Roos," she admitted, her tone soft and filled with longing. "Are you alright? It’s late for you isn’t it?”
He grunts, adjusting himself on the cot, brown eyes looking up at a sudden snore “Payback.” he answers her unasked question “Um…yeah, a little, just felt like calling you. We have a bit more freedom to do it in this mission.”
“Oh, that’s good,Roos.” she pauses “You…aren’t we going to wake Payback up if we keep chatting like this?”
Rooster chuckled, glancing towards Payback's cot, where the other pilot seemed to be blissfully unaware of the conversation. "Nah, he's in his own world right now. Probably dreaming about a new recipe for his protein shakes or something."
Beatrice laughed softly, the sound like a soothing melody through the screen. "Well, I'm not complaining. It's nice to have a surprise call from you, even if it's in the middle of the night for you."
"I figured I could use some of your morning positivity to brighten up the upcoming mission," Rooster said with a playful smirk. "And besides, I wanted to see your face."
Beatrice couldn't help but blush again, the giggle leaving her throat before she could stop it “Flatterer.”
Rooster leaned back against the wall of his quarters, the muted light casting a soft glow on his face. His eyes remained fixed on Beatrice, savoring the sight of her even through the pixelated video feed. "So, tell me, how's my favorite woman doing today?"
Beatrice smiled, her eyes reflecting the same adoration he was. "Your favorite woman is holding down the fort. We miss you here, but we're managing just fine. Like I said, it’s the same old same old, you know?"
“Anything new at the bar?”
She hums, scratching her neck “Well,Penny wants to fix the back walls. The sand is digging in the wood and it’s making it fragile…and uhh,oh!  We got some fancy European beers to try too.” she smiles “Because of yours truly.”
“No, way,really?”
“Well, the guy was Italian and i managed to snack it at half the price and earn some free ones because I spoke with him fluently.” she shrugs, clearly proud of herself. “So yeah!”
Rooster's eyes lit up with genuine interest at Beatrice's updates. "Look at you, making deals and getting fancy beers for the bar. Penny's lucky to have you managing things. You're running the show back home."
Beatrice's cheeks flushed with pride, her smile growing wider. "I'm doing my best,I’m trying Roos. And you know Penny, always thinking about the bar's wellbeing, it is her baby. I'll make sure to send you pictures once we get those back walls fixed."
"I'd love that," Rooster replied, his expression softening. "It's the little things, hearing about the bar, the kids, and everything back home—it keeps me grounded, you know?”
She smiles softly, licking her lips and dropping her gaze to her hands “...you know when I asked about how YOU’ve been doing…you told me about the mission.” her husband’s smile falters a bit “...are you okay,Roos?”
His eyes softened, the weight of the mission momentarily set aside. "Hey," he said gently, "I'm holding up, Bea. It's a challenging mission, and there are things happening that I can't fully share. "
“Roos.” she frowns, “I’m talking about you.”
Her husband purses his lips, then his gaze flicks to where Payback’s cot was before he lowers his voice “Honestly, a bit irritated, annoyed…worried.” he says “The breach is still in everyone’s minds and we are all…being careful, but I’m the leader of this squad, you know?”
Rooster's voice carried a mix of frustration that was so very him. Beatrice could sense the weight he carried, not just as a husband and father but as the leader of a squad navigating through the aftermath of a security breach.
A big one too.
She leaned closer to the screen, her eyes filled with concern. "Roos, you don't have to shoulder it all alone. You have a team for a reason, right? Lean on them when you need to. I'm sure they understand the pressure you're under."
He nodded, a weary smile on his face. "Yeah, they do.But sometimes, it feels like I need to be the rock, you know? Keep everyone steady, especially after what happened."
Beatrice reached out, her hand trying to touch the screen as if she could offer comfort through the pixels. "You're strong, Roos. I know you can handle it, but yYou're human, not a machine." she smiles softly “My human.”
Rooster's eyes softened at Beatrice's words, and he sighed, a subtle release of the tension he carried, as if her words had given him permission to let go, even if just for a moment.
"Sometimes, I forget that," he admitted, his voice carrying  a careful amount of vulnerability. "In the middle of missions and responsibilities, it's easy to lose sight of the fact that we're all just human, trying to navigate through this chaos." he chuckles softly “I'll try to remember that."
"That's all I'm asking," Beatrice replied, her expression filled with warmth. "And I want you to promise me something, Roos."
"What's that, gorgeous?"
"Promise me that you'll take care of yourself. Physically, mentally, all of it. Don't neglect your own well-being in the midst of everything else. And if it ever gets too much, reach out. Call, message, whatever. I'm here for you, Roos."
Rooster's eyes softened further, touched by her genuine concern. "I promise, Bea. I'll take care of myself, and I won't hesitate to reach out when I need to. You're my heart, remember?"
Beatrice's smile widened, a glow of pride in her eyes. "I remember. Just don't forget, you're mine too." she says while hugging her knees, “I just worry about you, you know?”
The acknowledgment of his own struggles seemed to ease a bit of the weight on his shoulders. "I know, Bea. I feel the same way," he admitted, his voice sincere. "And I worry about you.”
“Oh…I’m fine, well,” she sighs, “Besides dealing with Miranda.”
"What did she do this time?"
Beatrice rolled her eyes, a fond exasperation in her expression. "She decided that I, and I quote. ‘needed help dealing with your deployment.” she says, huffing “I’m serious!”
Rooster chuckled, placing his hand under his pillow. "And you hated it.”
“Yes!”
“...you are so cute,gorgeous.”
“Roos!”
Rooster leaned back against the wall, a playful glint in his eyes. "What else did she suggest this time to 'help' you?"
Beatrice rolled her eyes, her expression a mix of amusement and frustration. "Oh, nothing besides that she thinks I need more 'me time' and I think she’ll invite me for those yoga classes she keeps raving about."
"Yoga, huh? I mean you already know Yoga, right?”
Beatrice raised an eyebrow, a playful smirk forming on her lips. "Yes,but I’d NEVER join her, ugh. Jesus I’d rather watch paint dry.”
He held up his hands in mock surrender. "Hey, I'm not saying you will gorgeous. But,well yoga might help you destress…it’s been a while. And it's not like I want you to be stressed, right?"
She sighed, feigning exasperation. "Fine, but I’ll do it here, at home But only because you asked so nicely."
Rooster grinned, enjoying the banter that provided a brief escape from the challenges of the mission. "Thank you, gorgeous. But hey, just imagine you, Miranda, and a room full of people doing yoga. It'll be an experience. You’ll be better than anyone there."
“Roos.”
“I’m serious, you are so good…and you look great with those pants.”
Beatrice narrowed her gaze at him, shaking her head. "You are awful." she smiles though, “...I might film it for you.”
And his eyebrow went up “Oh?”
“Maybe, you’ll see if I do it.”
He reached for his water bottle, taking a sip before responding. "My wife is just so mean.." she laughs quietly and he has to check if payback is still asleep, “Oh…now I’ll have to wonder what that’s like!”
“It’s not like you don’t know!”
“But still!” He grinned, his eyes holding a warmth that transcended the digital divide. "Yeah… and I can't wait to be back and fully immersed in those moments. Until then, I guess our video calls will have to do."
She just flicked her brow at him “You are so dramatic.”
‘Hmmm you love it.”
And she smiles, genuinely “So much.” she checks on the twins via the baby monitor quickly, then on Nicole, “They are still asleep, it’s Friday after all.” she shrugs, “What will you do today?”
Rooster chuckled, getting more comfortable in bed. "Well, I was planning to go over some mission briefs, catch up on sleep, maybe hit the gym later. You know, the usual routine. How about you? Any exciting plans for the day?"
Beatrice rolled her eyes playfully. "Please, I'm living the dream over here. Laundry, dishes, maybe a nap if I'm feeling wild." She smirked, her eyes filled with a mischievous glint. "Living the glamorous life, as you can see. I wouldn’t have it any other- wait, did you say sleep? Bradley, did you not sleep????"
He chuckled, a sheepish grin spreading across his face. "Okay, maybe I stretched the truth a bit. Mission briefs and the gym are on the agenda, but I might sneak in a nap if the opportunity presents itself. A soldier's gotta catch some Zs when he can, right?"
Beatrice narrowed her eyes at him, mock suspicion in her gaze. "You better be taking care of yourself over there, Roos. I don't need you passing out from exhaustion in the middle of a mission. I’ll FLY there if I have to! With the kids!"
Rooster quiet laughter at Beatrice's mock threat was enough to break her frown into a grin, the image of her flying over with the kids bringing a smile to his face. "I promise, Bea, I'm taking care of myself. No need for any superhero flights. Besides, I wouldn't want you to go through the trouble of navigating the skies with the thee kiddos in tow."
Beatrice grinned, a glint of mischief in her eyes. "Oh, I could handle it. Besides, with how smart Nikki is she might carry us all over there."
“...don’t say that outloud to Mav.”
“I won’t, don’t worry.”
Rooster couldn't help but feel a pang of longing. The mundane discussions about daily life, even the teasing about superhero flights, highlighted the stark contrast between their current realities.
Beatrice sensed the shift in his mood, her expression softening. "Roos, you there?"
He blinked, shaking off the momentary reverie. "Yeah, sorry. Just got lost in the thought of being home. It's the little things, you know?"
Beatrice nodded in understanding. "I get it. But I’m serious,Roos, you have to sleep!”
Rooster leaned back against the stack of pillows, his eyes on the small screen that connected him to Beatrice. "I promise, Bea, I'll grab some shut-eye. You know me, always pushing myself a bit too hard. But hey, it's all for a good cause, right?"
"Just don't forget to take care of yourself. We need you back in one piece."
"I'll do my best, Bea. And I have the best reason to come back in one piece, don't I?" he said with a warm smile, his hand unconsciously reaching for the wedding band on his finger.
Beatrice grinned, the worry momentarily replaced by a playful sparkle in her eyes. "Damn right you do. The kids are eagerly waiting for their dad to come back and play superhero with them."
Rooster chuckled, sleep slowly taking over "Tell them I've been practicing my superhero moves just for them. Maybe I'll have a surprise for them when I get back."
"I'll make sure to build up the anticipation," Beatrice replied with a laugh. "They'll be expecting something truly epic, you know."
"I've got a reputation to uphold as the coolest dad ever," Rooster said, a twinkle in his eye.
As they continued bantering, the conversation shifted to more serious matters. Beatrice couldn't help but express her concerns about the security of their communications. "You know, Roos, sometimes I worry about these calls. What if someone is listening in? Because…of the breach, you know?”
Rooster raised an eyebrow, a sudden seriousness settling over his features. " These channels are encrypted, and the protocols are top-notch. There's no way anyone could breach them."
“Well…I mean,it…happened before, that’s why you are so worried right?”
"The security measures have been significantly reinforced since then. Trust me, Bea, our conversations are as secure as they can be."
Beatrice nodded, her worry not entirely dissipating. "I know you guys take security seriously, but it's just the mom in me being overly cautious. I can't help it."
"I appreciate it, Bea. It's how you are, gorgeous. I appreciate it.” Rooster said, his voice filled with warmth and gratitude.
A brief silence hung in the air before Beatrice spoke again, her tone unintentionally lowering. "Just promise me, Roos, that you'll be careful. We've had enough scares, and I don't want anything jeopardizing your safety."
"I promise, Bea. I'll be careful. Okay?" Rooster reassured her, his gaze fixed on the screen.
“...okay.” she whispers, “...Okay,Roos.”

love ur repair shop au love all ur yj stuff <33 what kind of hero adventures would happen/how often would they happen? idk just any thoughts abt it bc it seems so cute and nice
so I've already mentioned dimension shenanigans, but also supernatural shenanigans?? every now and then obviously there's some major crisis that sends one/all of them back home or like an alien invasion, but mostly it's dimension and supernatural stuff. need these kids to not have Any main nemesis', no jokers or eobards (I would go evil too if my name was fucking EOBARD) or luthors or cheetahs or big giant monsters, nobody dedicating their life to hurt them.
bart's shaken awake at two am by a grumpy tim tromping into the bedroom and saying theres a dimensional rift opening up in their living room. bart deals with it then comes back to see tim's taken his place in the cuddle pile so he wiggles in between cassie and kon (didn't betray him) and wakes all of them up in the process. they get back to sleep eventually but half on top of bart as revenge (it doesn't work, bart likes the pressure) then cassie cracks open an eye to ask, "hey, why were you even up?" and they're back awake again.
they've got to deal with wayward spirits and confused ghosts, plus people who got dragged through the thin spot in space time their shop is based in. bart multitasks by also keeping an eye on it, so wally can't mind his business west has no reason to keep popping in. speedsters are still their most reoccuring visitors because it's a convenient place to dimension hop so bart's learnt to suck it up.
their hero stuff is less big flashy monsters and tech geniuses. its supernatural stuff they have to deal with, and it sent everyone off-kilter a bit because this is Odd yeah but so relieving actually?? nobody waiting to stab them in the back except for the creepy vampire that's been following them all day, and they can deal with that well enough. a huge but needed change of pace.
kon's got the neatest handwriting because bart and tim both scrawl unintelligibly (the consequences of being geniuses whose brains move too fast for their hands), cassie scribbles only barely legibly (why does this girl write like she's always in a hurry?) and kon's handwriting is neat because he cares about how it looks. the others don't really—they can make it look nice, tim especially, but you have to understand; they can't be bothered. so kon tends to do all the writing for everything, and thank god for ttk otherwise he'd have permanent hand cramps.
they have a garden! it took a lot of trial and error, but now they're finally growing more things than they kill (it took several trips to the farm to figure that out—books didn't help much against their non-existent green thumbs. they're not complaining though, they love ma and pa).
of course, they're still called home for big events and all brought together when there's a huge world-ending event or whatever, but their shop and their home are sort of a break from that, y'know? after a long day of saving humanity they shed their armor and collapse in a pile together and know there's nothing that'll hurt them as they are, right then and there. and that's reassuring.

Who's the Biggest Tattletale
Ranked from biggest tattletale/dibber-dobber to least. No reader.
TW for swearing, blackmail (yes really)/bullying (I think?), domestic/child abuse (Terrence Blake), violence, screaming.
Griffin
This boy can be a little shit sometimes. If he doesn't like someone and they do something at school, he will go straight to the nearest trustworthy teacher/staff and tell on them. Griffin can't hold his own in a fight that well (especially with older kids), so he settles for getting them reported as soon as possible.
Even then, if it's his family member or friend or something he'll basically blackmail them into doing what he wants or else he'll tattletale on what they did. He's pretty ruthless sometimes.
Billy
Listen, listen; Billy can be a real smart-ass dick when he wants to be. Telling on someone isn't his first thought in most situations--it's usually to get out of the situation at hand and try to let it play out--but he's not afraid to. He's the type to not tell on someone for shoplifting if he likes them but to definitely tell on someone he doesn't like for making the slightest mean comment. Priorities, I guess.
Billy's not so much of a straight-up blackmailer, but he will still be like with any family members his age of younger, "I'll tell your dad you stole broke my Superman doll last year if you don't give me back my Snickers bar." Wait, no, that is blackmailing, never mind.
Gwen
I love Gwen but she will report you if she doesn't like you and if it's serious enough. I mean, that on it's own sounds fair, but what I mean is don't cross her. Because if you do, you'll either have her chasing after you or you'll be in the principal's office for something you did like, last semester.
Her and her friend Susie probably gossip a lot as people do during sleepovers, so she's able to get dirt on others that way. Still, she'll make a deal with someone: don't tell on her to her father, and she won't tell on you. Anything to avoid getting in trouble.
Finney
Like sister, like brother. The only things holding Finney back from dobbing on someone are his fear of getting bullied and also his general sense of empathy. But trust me he's still very capable of doing it. He just doesn't report his bullies because if he does he'll get beaten by them. Tough world.
However, I imagine he also does it in a playful sense. He'll go, "I'm gonna report you if you don't stop teasing me!" but mean it lightheartedly. He probably won't actually report you, but he will walk up to the teacher and strike casual conversation to make it look like he is. It's kind of just how he shows he likes someone.
Bruce
Now we're getting into the "I'll never tell on you" section. Bruce is a pretty chill guy--it's part of the reason why he's so popular. He'll keep a secret most of the time. Honestly, he never bothers to tell on people when there's been a fight. Teachers will ask him what happened because they trust him, but he'll just say he walked right past it (and he probably did). Plus, the news will get around to them soon enough anyway.
However, Bruce still has a morale about him. He will report someone if they've done something truly bad or if they've hurt his friends. Bruce is loyal to people, and will adopt a "save the most" attitude, so if he has to report one friend to save more from getting bullied, he will do that. Just be nice, yeah?
Robin
Robin's literally so loyal to the people he's closest to. He'd barely tell on anyone for anything. His good friend got into a fight at school and the teachers want to know what happened? He doesn't have a clue. Yeah, sure, he bandaged his friend up after it happened, and he may have been giving them fighting tips earlier, but it's not like he was involved. Totally (/sarcasm)!
Robin's only gonna tell on someone if they, like, really, really hurt someone. Not even Vance's fights get from his mouth to the teacher's ears because he knows there's no point to that. Word will get around. But even if it was some super secret fight, he'd stay quiet about it and just make sure his friend is okay. So yeah, you've gotta really fuck up to get told on by him.
Vance
Vance tells on nobody. Ever. If they're somebody he likes, he keeps their secrets close to them. In fact, he's so wary of letting people's secrets out he doesn't let them tell him anything at all. And if it's someone he doesn't like? Simple; he just beats them up and/or screams at them.
Yeah, he's the best secret-keeper in town, surprisingly. Literally, if you are bursting to tell someone something but you just can't? Tell him. Just make sure you find the right time and be sure to not interrupt his pinball game. And be sure to have a few bandages on hand for the aftermath, too.

I think the key differences between FtE Aizawa and SnS Aizawa is laziness and the motivation and bias about Izuku. Both did not read the student profiles and had different circumstances in the past that led them to their conclusions. If I recalled, Nezu in both verse told him that he was not allowed to expel without due cause(or anyone in S&S at least).
FTE Aizawa was given critical information via Monoma that Izuku is a late bloomer. Likewise, due to the Star Heart incident happening in Japan and making Rescue Points required , Bakugo is not there thus there is less bias towards the kid with the perceived villainous Quirk of Explosion. Thus when Aizawa had to think about helping Izuku, he thinks about good ways of using other heroes and won’t expel him. This train of thought ends up helping him as Izuku more-or-less saved his life at the USJ, got control of his Quirk, and mostly avoided the wrath of lawyer Inko. He has no motivation to get rid of Izuku now and is glad that he never did it because of his laziness.
S&S Aizawa was motivated to get rid of Izuku because he believes that Izuku was lazy to train his Quirk. Tenya getting injured was an easy excuse to get rid of Izuku via public opinion since he was forbidden to expel anyone. It’s just that this time, his laziness backfires on him as people did not react the way he thinks and that UA’s and the HSPC’s report on the issue contradicts his and Tensei’s statements.
It's also, to be blunt, from a meta standpoint I needed one to be a plot device rather than a character (Sticks and Stone's verse Aizawa). That's why a lot of his worst traits are amplified (and well in the start of the year he did have a lot of issues that Hori has either smothered or downplayed as time went on [re: we went way, way too long before getting the 'oh yeah he immediately re-enrolls them' thing with 2-A and that's very clearly a retcon plus even with the girl's 'oh yeah this was helpeful!' claim her classmates clearly look at her like she's nuts]).
Yes he's indeed told in both universes he can't expel students the way he had in the past! Though I will note Nedzu would have approved an expulsion based on how Bakugou attacked Izuku during the QAT in S&S, that would have been a completely justifiable one. The 'wake up call' expulsion ran too many risks with the sort of students in the present 1-A (wealthy heiress, three successors of major legacies, etc). Like how do you think Endeavor at least would have reacted?
Number Two has one hell of a microphone after all.
But yes Aizawa in FtE, in light of the pre-story start events (Star Heart Incident) and the start of story events (the rescue point thing) mean in general he is going to have a somewhat more positive perspective even just going into dealing with a kid like Izuku. Again, they've just had a major demonstration of the danger of showboats (the gloryhog heroes) versus someone more focused on saving people (Legacy). Yes she was certainly focused on taking Star Heart down, but she was also willing to allow the distraction of rescuing civilians/trying to help everyone as well as trying to take down a villain she's been battling with anyway for the better part of twenty years. So Aizawa's already more willing to be open minded/is almost immediately made aware of the issue (the stockpile/Izuku's reaction making it clear his Quirk had only recently come in) versus allowing a bias to immediately build (making the assumption he hasn't bothered training his Quirk rather than it's just that Izuku only just got it).
There's a reason for the expression 'assume makes an ass out of you and me'.
Another fun thing with the S&S verse is it's also a good means of looking at how as an underground hero Aizawa's ability to get media manipulation just isn't as good as it would be if he was someone in the press all the time. He's more used to avoiding the media. Here he's also making bad guesses on how others would react (to some extent he was assuming All Might as a new teacher wouldn't want to deal with the stress of dealing with a student so clearly 'incapable' of using his Quirk and thought Nedzu would put trust in his judgement being perfect and guessed very wrong in both cases, along with wildly misjudging how people would react to Tensei's words)

Love your fics and arts (especially with Dazai in them). What do you think about these ships : dazai x fyodor , dazai × chuuya, dazai × odasaku? Which dynamics do you love the most? Why do you think soukoku is the most popular ships from BSD? Thanks if you want to answer.
Hello, thank you!! Especially with Dazai, they say, as if all of my work isn't basically about Dazai LMAO 😭
Here's what I think about the ships!!
Fyodor x Dazai: My favorite, which is probably clear to most who know my work. They have my favorite dynamic in general which is power imbalance/power play, in the fact that they're both trying to outwit one another at any given moment (badly ofc since it's stupid BSD logic), plus they've got that Hannibal vibe potential when I get my grubby hands on them. They are, of course, what I make them as a ship, so I personally value them as elitists fighting each other psychologically, which leads to violence and sometimes sex. Or violent sex. Probably only that.
Chuuya x Dazai: I'm really not interested in SKK past the fact that they get more engagement on my socials and Chuuya--as walking anger bomb--is an easy way to create angst and conflict when I write a fic for them. Because of this, they're fun, but only because of the increased potential to hurt Dazai with someone that I can portray as clumsy with feelings and constantly ready to fight.
Dazai x Odasaku: The ultimate soft-spoken hurt/comfort couple. I don't get to do a lot with them, but I'd like to do more. I love the age difference, the mellow personality of Oda vs. self-destructive Dazai, and the friendship that already exists between them in canon.
As far as why SKK is so popular, THAT'S EASY. PEOPLE ARE BASIC. No just kidding, it's just that the show literally ships them....soooooo.....it's very typical BL bait. (Bait is not bad) But having Chuuya literally BLOWJOB TEASE in Dead Apple sealed that deal with a kiss. Also they're old partners-now enemies WHICH ALWAYS GETS THE SHIPPERS' TWISTING THEIR PANTIES (the boys are also wearing panties in this scenario). It was inevitable from the beginning that people would become blind to all other men nearly making out with Dazai except Chuuya. But if you ask me, the real canon ship was always Fyozai, Chuuya's just the scorned ex.

Now that Hueso has been introduced in GitS, I'm curious about something. You've said in a previous ask that Hueso mostly sees Leo as an annoying kid who comes around to bug him sometimes. Does that mean they aren't going to be friends?
I get wanting to stick close to the dynamic they have in the show. As much as i love them having an 'uncle/nephew' relationship, I will admit that interpretation mainly comes from the fandom looking at the two through a heavy Found-Family filter.
Even so, i still always got the impression that they were friends in the show. Or at least Leo sees Hueso as a friend very quickly, while it takes Hueso a while to feel the same.
When I say Hueso sees him as an annoying kid who comes around to bug him sometimes I mean it in the most affectionate way possible. Hueso sees Leo as a trouble-maker, a problem for him, and very much annoying to deal with, but he is still just a kid, and Hueso's a dad. He might find Leo annoying, but that doesn't mean he hates him, or even dislike him.
Don't worry, they'll still be friends. It'll just stick to the show's level of friendship between them instead of a lot of the fandom interpretations of Hueso becoming like another parental figure. THEY'VE ALREADY GOT TWO DADS PLUS DRAXUM WHEN HE FINALLY REDEEMS HIMSELF, HOW MANY MORE DADS DO THEY NEED--
