I’ve been trying to get Enya’s y8 lore down for the last 3 days but all I’ve managed is to stare at this blank draft KSKDKSKS😭

#like its not that I don’t know what to type in fact its the opposite😭#its just getting started has been tough…😭 and also the 10000 other ideas at the same time #also working on commississons too so it’s been blank for a while LMAO #and I have to do Leo’s ref…😭 but I always end up getting a new Enyao idea or see a pretty ref I wanna do #plus a bunch of other WIPS #AAAAA I’m just ansty… and need to refill meds again… I’ve had awful focus sjdkdkd #monster has helped at least :’) but only for maybe a day and we’re back at square one #AND MY ALLERGIES… MY BIGGEST BEEF RN #even now I’m sneezing and it gets so bad I can barely get any thing done #I just end up fatigued and congested bc of it…💀#on that note does anyone else who take SSRIS and ADHD meds get a reaction when you go without for a bit…?😭#I mean besides the brainzaps for me its like I end up getting an allergy flare up #maybe once I square the next payment away I should talk to my perscriber about that😭#okay I was going to brainstorm more but ended up talking to the Zhaobot instead…help

My husband and I keep getting frustrated with how most pieces of pride cc have so few flag swatches, so one again I am taking matters into my own hands sfdjkldfsklj

i’m so excited bc i have two quilt tops that are super close to done 🙌🏻

#one i’m gonna finish this week for sure #the other i miiiiight but definitely by the end of next week #the first one is autumn themed. it’s got fabric with ghosts and pumpkins and leaves and cute squirrels with acorns #plus a bunch of scrap fabric i had in fall colors (orange brown wine red navy etc)#the second one is SUPER colorful. it’s bright green and orange and kind of summery #I’m almost through all my wips…. i wasn’t expecting to be unemployed this long 🙃#m.txt

yoooo!!! i wrote like 700 words??? in an hour and a half??? after nearly two months of writing nothing, this is amazing omg.

i got two scenes done (basically) i finished the one with geo & chad being vulnerable at the beach and the one right after. from that emotional scene we jump to silly banter bc they both desperately need to pretend everything's normal and that the emotional scene changed nothing fundamental about their relationship.

but fundamentally their relationship IS changed bc geo APOLOGIZED for the FIRST TIME in the 9 months they've been travelling together. AND they were sincere about it. like that's a big change for geo's character bc they start the story not giving a shit about chad at ALL.

also this wip is the one where chad let's himself be vulnerable and properly deals w/ his feelings for the first time in??? probably years honestly. like since he was teenager. not that ik how old he is beyond a handy wavy early to mid 20s.

really enjoying how this one is ending up becoming a massive turning point for the story in so many ways. THIS is why i couldn't finish this short story for my capstone. too many emotions and stuff like that. the whole dynamic shifts yk.

I see writing tips on here all the time that are designed to help you work through writer's block or a lack of motivation: Write it badly. Set a timer. Build an outline. Have a word goal. And they're all great tips!

Except...they don't work for me. And I could never figure out why, which was always a little frustrating. Like, what am I supposed to do then?!

Until one day, I opened a WIP document and thought, "You know what? I'm going to write 2 sentences. I can write 2 sentences. Plus, if I do, that's 2 more than I wrote yesterday." And I did! I even wrote more than 2 because once I achieved that goal it felt easier. When I eventually hit a wall, I walked away for a bit, and, after some time had passed, I started it all over again.

Then it hit me: All of those other tips focus on volume writing and just getting it done, which was still putting a lot of pressure on myself and felt overwhelming.

...Which is the same problem I have when cleaning or doing any other big, nebulous task and don't know where to start. Because I have ADHD. I'm neurodivergent. You know how I learned to cope with cleaning? By breaking everything into smaller, manageable tasks to help me focus and keep me grounded. I'm not cleaning the kitchen. I'm emptying the dishwasher, gathering dirty dishes, refilling the dishwasher, wiping down the counter, putting the mail away, sweeping, taking out the recycling, etc.

Suddenly I had a new way to approach writing—a small, easily attainable goal I could latch onto—and it's been SUCH a relief. I'm actually making progress!

So if you're stuck, don't beat yourself up or feel bad you aren't writing 2000 words a day after reading a bunch of tips. Just write 2 sentences. You can do 2 sentences.

Ooh! I have really, really bad memory(!!) but these are current faves that I have played/replayed recently that I can think of. A lot of the authors are also THE BEST HUMAN BEINGS EVER. So, double recommendation.

I probably missed a bunch out, so take this as a non-exhaustive list! In no particular order:

(Edit: Added some descriptions but yeah I got a little unhinged so I'm sorry nothing makes sense or if the quality of the write-up went down over time/did not actually give you any useful info)

WIPs with demos

Citadel, @bouncyballcitadel (I think of all the IFs on this list, this one makes me sweat the most. And I've said it once and I'll say it again: the dialogue is so snappy and well-written, and characters are SO DAMNED LOVEABLE.)

Infamous, @infamous-if (I've been manifesting Band/Musician IFs for the longest time, and then this popped up! I've even played Choice of a Rockstar, that's how desperate I was... Anyway, this is legions better than that. Angsty ex routes are my kryptonite, and Seven is just. Inevitable.)

Defiled Hearts: The Barbarian, @defiledheartsblog (I went into this wanting something juicy and fun/historical—and it's all of those things, but I didn't expect it to be so damned funny, too. The ROs are all impeccable.)

Raiders of the Caravan and Apartment 3-3, @leftski-if (A'ight listen, fantasy slice-of-life is my fave genre, and these are IT. Like, everything I never knew I needed in my life, and SO cozy/wholesome, with a cast of characters that I want to befriend in real life.)

The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes: An Affair of the Heart @doriana-gray-games (First off, the customization in this game is INSANE, and the branching too. I've replayed a couple of times and the little variations I discover each time just blows my mind. Secondly, it's so funny and written so well. Ngl I'm not a Sherlock fan but that's just testament to how amazing this IF is.)

When Life Gives You Lemons, @when-life-gives-you-lemonssss (Modern slice-of-life with an adorable kid, a bunch of hot ROs, CC. Hill's humor, what can I say?)

Golden @milaswriting (Really interesting world-building, one of the coolest fictional cities I've read in an IF, AND I'm obsessed with the ROs, in particular K de la Renta. Also Mila is such an awesome writer, I'm beyond excited for @beyondthegame.)

A Tale of Crowns @ataleofcrowns (This game is beautiful, polished, and SO exciting. Honestly, it looks like the kind of game created by a whole-ass game studio and would cost $50 to buy, it's that good. I really got swept up by this IF—probably played it all in one go.)

Rougi @rougi-if (Again, another game with scrumptious visuals/UI and also is just so well-crafted. I love the premise too, it's so original and fresh.)

Scout: An Apocalypse Story @anya-dev (Unfortunately this one might be on hiatus but I am/was really, really obsessed.)

Wayfarer @idrellegames (Love the game mechanics of this one, and the visuals. Probably controversial, but I like the D&D / random dice effect. And I also like the fact that it feels like an old-school RPG.)

Chop shop @losergames (The premise is all I needed to be sold, really—I'd always wanted to buy GTA as a kid but my parents were like NO WAY. Anyway, this IF did not disappoint, and let me live all my childhood dreams.)

Edit: AHH! How could I forget, one of my recent faves, Folksaga @folksaga-if (Lush atmospheric writing, super unique premise—norse mythology, plus I'm head over heels for Katla).

Completed IFs

Butterfly Soup 1 and 2 @brianna-lei (these are completed and I will never not promote them. Honestly the most adorable, wholesome, funny sports/coming-of-age IF I've read)

Elsinore: After Hamlet @lapinlunairegames (Insanely cool premise, insanely cool execution)

The Thick Table Tavern @manonamora-if (I love bar/tavern games, and this one actually lets you mix drinks! Instant fave.)

Other HGs/COGs I love: Slammed, Tin Star, Fallen Hero, If it pleases the court, A Player's Heart (these last two are so underrated, though I guess cause it's mainly wlw)

I am recently struggling a bit with this, trying to keep writing but the inspiration just decided to disappear, I can't bring myself to write more than one line.

Don't Stand So Close is an age gap, best friend's dad situation with oc (not reader / yn) - some cute fluff and lots of smut (+angst)

The House Maid is set in the 1920s where Daisy is a housemaid and Harry is a gardener at the same house and they fall in love (not reader / yn) - fluff and smut and angst

My stepdad Harry au is about an inappropriate relationship between stepdad!harry and his stepdaughter!yn (not a ton of fluff but if you squint you may find it amongst the dirty smut)

The Arrangement is a 2 part (with an extra) sugardaddy!harry x college student!yn fic (smutty mostly, but there is some fluff and angst to round it all out)

A Balancing Act is a WIP, will be 4 parts - famous!harry meets artist plus size!reader and he's freaky in the best way (there will be fluffy moments but it's smutty and angsty)
