#pepa did nothing wrong
Text
This was bugging me all day
and I refuse to let it go just yet, because it’s so ironic.
Yes, I spent yet another day obsessing over Pepa Madrigal--sue me--but I kept thinking about the moment she yelled “what did you do?!” at Mirabel after the disaster of a dinner proposal, and how much people disliked her for it. I think it’s because a lot of these folks relate so much to Mirabel, but because I’m more like Pepa, I see it entirely from her point of view.
Okay, imagine you were already stressed out about getting ready for your oldest niece’s engagement at dinner, and your youngest niece asks you about your brother, that everyone knows you’re supposed to avoid discussing, RIGHT BEFORE you need to go out and be calm and happy around guests so your mother won’t be upset with you. She’s stressing you out more, and you tell her point blank “drop it, leave it alone, it’s for the best”.
You’re at dinner, your niece is being all weird because she’s a weirdo teenager (whom you love but seriously why does she play an accordion?) and suddenly, your husband’s whispering in your ear that she did the one thing you told her not to do. Everyone’s freaking out, your mom’s probably going to be mad that you rained on all of the food so no one can finish eating, and the house is breaking apart.
And in response to all of this, she goes “What did you do?!” Not even chewing Mirabel out for defying her, just a quick burst of anger that, quite honestly, is justified if you didn’t follow Mirabel around all day like the audience did. What makes it ironic is that Pepa’s issue is Alma constantly policing how she’s supposed to feel throughout the whole film, and then people online see her get upset for two seconds and flip their lids because she raised her voice during an emotionally-driven scene.
And that is what I thought about all day while I was at work, instead of, like, working.

Oh god okay here we go
Tumblr media
Why must I go into heavy detail you ask? Well, I am actually unable to shut up so here it is them 10 TOP “there’s no chance this is a straight friendship” MOMENTS
“You can have my back any day” aka the enemies to lovers speedrun. The immediate feeling we’re supposed to get from the screen is jealousy. Buck is jealous of the new recruit because he’s hot, a medic, a veteran, whatever. I’ll give it to you children, he WAS jealous. But then they go on call and they get into immediate danger bc 911 is a drama and then Eddie’s very keen on being Buck’s partner. Nothing queer til then right? WRONG. Eddie’s line is pretty normal but the way Buck reacts isn’t. I have had my fair share of “huh this person I didn’t like is actually cool” moments but nEVER have I once sucked in a breath, forgot how to blink, rushed in my words OR stared at said person like I’d like for them to be my lover. Three points to Gayfindor.
“Is your son REALLY the reason you don’t date?” This line and the dialogue that follows makes absolutely no sense from the non-queer glass. Alright he asks bc he wants to know why two girls practically launched themselves at him and he declined (such a kind offer lmao) but… why are you standing so close? Why do you bump shoulders with him as you walk? Most importantly, what the FUCK does Eddie’s smirk mean after “they’re not my type either… not anymore.” Idk about you guys but when I’m not on the market I’m actually not in it 😀 and I don’t go around looking at my best friend like I’d consider fucking her (I’m actually kinda yikes about that thought bc she’s like my sister). Bottom line is: if you’re willing to fuck your best friend, there’s attraction. That scenes oozes attraction and I’d be willing to white glove challenge a body language reader.
The Tsunami. YES okay, there are far many moments in between but I also need to make this a somewhat readable list so here we go. We’re gonna pretend for a hot second Buck wants to save his best friend’s son, and not the child that he considers his own bc I’m tired. Let’s skip to the far end of this (be GrAtEfuL I’m skipping the whole sacrifice that this episode entailed. Buck was willing to die, to never sit down again if it meant looking for Chris [& the utter fear he has to face Eddie]. It’s a lot). Now, I do not OWN a child (thank god) but if I did, I wouldn’t be particularly comfortable with a simple friend from work taking care of them. They could be my very best friend from work and I’d still feel a little icky -at least nervous- about it. Yet Eddie not only takes Christopher back A F T E R the tsunami (Chris could’ve died and Eddie is nothing short of apprehensive), but he says ‘there’s no one I trust with my son more than you’. Um. Not his wife. Not his family (CHRIS’ family), not Abuela, not Tia Pepa. Buck. Who he… just met? Surely it isn’t bc he’s uncle buck… I don’t believe even Maddie has said that to Buck, where he’s actually, yknow, UNCLE BUCK. Co-parenting is not something done between a parent and a friend, and I know this shit bc my mom raised me with a few of her friends and guys,,, she never said that to any of them. Also Chris is practically never seen with anyone else from the 188firefam alone.
The Kitchen Scene™️. I have gone on rants about this before but truth be told THIS is the scene that conveys the MOST canonically sexual tension between them. We can joke about it all y’all want but this scene is unhinged. I don’t think Oliver and Ryan were aware that they should’ve been friends in this scene. The way the conversation shifts from apologetic sad puppy eyes to “you’re throwing your punches at the wrong guy” to I CAN TAKE YOU (???) you can what? “Oh you think?” “Oh I know” HELLO? Pls don’t even get me started on how Buck approaches Eddie, the way he’s puffy-chested, his hand on his belt, eyeing him up and down, nearly biting his lip, cocky grin,,,,, explain to me in hetero. I’m waiting😐 guys c’mon exPLAIN IT TO ME IN HETERO. The way Eddie glances to the side bc where’s Chris? And h o w he sips his beer right after, smirking, tiLTING His head. I’m sorry this is not straight in any way. I’m sorry you’re gonna have to accept this.
Clipboard Buck. Alright u got me!!! This one’s a lil silly, but so is my life, so it’s fair game. Clipboard Buck is annoying as fuck, he’s so fucking annoying. The entire firefam picks up on this, no one wants to be around,,,, except Eddie. You could argue that it’s bc he likes him as a friend and he’s just indulging …. 👁️👄👁️ sure but he also hides from Interim Captain Han soooo anyway what’s fun about this is how willing Eddie is to comply with everything he says. He’s basically twirling his hair, kicking his feet, smiling & blushing and “check!” 🧍🏽‍♀️ buck is kinky (that is canon e.g the ring cutter) and he gets high on authority and Eddie does backflips to meet his kinks. Exhibit 5 complete.
The Lawsuit Arc acka the first divorce era😔✊🏼. This one makes me rage a little bit because I get really upset at Buck for acting recklessly. Like baby let yourself HEAL. Anyway,,,, onto what brings us here 🥷🏼. It’s canon that the entire team is mad at Buck, they don’t really wanna bump into him, can’t really speak to him,,, but Eddie? Eddie’s filled with wrath. I cannot stress enough the fact that he uses Chris as an excuse “do you even know how much he misses you? how could you! you’re not here”. The way he expresses himself, and we’re choosing to ignore the fact that he HIMSELF misses Buck,, that’s how you talk to someone who has a responsibility with the child, not the fun coworker that randomly shows up @ your house with pizza every once in a while. “I couldn’t even call you to bail me out of jail”. He’s so u p s e t that for the first time they know each other he can’t rely on Buck when he’s hurting and in danger. And pls for the love of Jesus Christ my lord & savior don’t tell me that it’s a 118 thing bc he calls Ronda Rousey to come pick him up 🎅🏻 that grocery store scene is.. interesting.
Eddie Underground. Alright we’re getting serious now guys,,, might as well put on your thinking caps on this one. We all know the story, this isn’t a latest ep recap soooo The wAY Buck’s the ONLY ONE who desperately calls Eddie’s name when he’s fallen underground, amidst the heavy rain and dirt. Listen to me: he starts digging with his hands. With his bare hands I tell you!!!! 😩 Bobby has to physically pull him back as he cries on his lap. Buck is a smart man, he wouldn’t do something that’s completely illogic, he knows he can’t dig him out but he’s so desperate. His voice breaks, he can’t breathe, he becomes impulsive, reckless, impatient. Do I need to remind y’all the reason he wasn’t the one getting strapped to go underground??? “You’re not going down there. So we can have two cut off ropes?” Everyone knows he’s willing to sacrifice his integrity for Eddie bc his life doesn’t make sense without him. “We’ll get him back for you”
The Shooting + “I’ve made u my son’s dad lol”. When Eddie gets shot the world freezes for Buck. He’s left standing there, staring as Eddie’s blood splatters on him. He has to be tackled down. Even then, he’s unable to move, to breathe. He just looks as he bleeds out, and theN he snaps back into reality, bracing himself to go under the truck (foregoing his own trauma - I’ve said this before) and preparing for the amount of strength it’s gonna take to pull him under it. He screams at him to hold on, and later when he manages to pull him inside the truck he tells him he needs him to hang on. He rips his uniform open, he cries and screams,,, then Eddie wakes up, and he asks BUCK if HES okay. Bc he saw blood :( also as @butraura pointed out, he can’t die if Buck’s dying bc what about Chris? He only lets himself drift off when he knows Buck’s okay. Then we got The Will Reveal™️ also so unhinged. “You knew I wouldn’t turn it down” right what is this guys??? That was a year ago. He added him to his will A yEaR aGo. Idk about y’all but I haven’t added my friends to my will😀 also Buck’s the one who tells Chris ??? (I’m being very brief on this subject). Also “Because, Evan” shut up🧎🏽‍♀️
& 10. The Lightning Strike + “She sees me”. I’m doing these together bc I haven’t watched this episodes yet but I’m an addict so I’ve spoiled myself to the brim. The way Eddie screams Buck’s name, the way he saves him, “do more” h e l l o ?? The absolute PAIN in Eddie’s eyes, “you died Buck” “3 minutes and 17 seconds”, “his humor hasn’t changed” & the fact that he listens to Buck on his super genius math theory. And then Buck goes and says “I feel like Natalia sees me” ok. I mean my feelings mean nothing but Eddie’s face ??? That’s a man that knows he’s waited too long.
I rest my case. I’m missing a lot of scenes (like a lot omg Abby comes back, Buck under the Truck, Buck vomiting blood, the Taylor Arc) & y’all can argue in the comments about them, or add shit or try to dismantle mine, honestly the floor is yours idc wHat u do, just know you won’t convince me otherwise 🤸🏽these two are in love & that’s pretty much that on THAT. PERIOD.

Fuck it Friday
Tagged by @thewolvesof1998 @theotherbuckley @daffi-990 @hippolotamus @wildlife4life @wikiangela @spotsandsocks @anakinfallen @devirnis thank you all
I'm in angst mood and I started new wip. Nothing except this scene so maybe it will be one shot who knows :
"Because I was in love with you and I needed time to stop," Eddie says feeling only a little guilty for lying to Buck for so long, but hopeful as now he's not in love they can save them. He finally can be honest with his best friend and they can laugh about Eddie's stupid point in life where he was in love with his best friend.
"Did it help?" Buck doesn't look at him.
"Yes, so we can get to be ourselves again," Eddie starts to smile before he sees Buck's face and his shake of the head in disagreement.
"No, no we can't," Buck finally looks at him and Eddie sees tears in his blues almost ready to fall. "At least not now. I-I'm in love with you Eddie. And as you're not anymore, and your choice was to put a distance between us, but not loved me. Not loved me anyway even if I couldn't possibly reciprocate your feelings," Buck shakes his head again in the action Eddie knows as his way to stop himself from crying. The biggest heartbreaking expression that Eddie has ever seen on this face breaks his heart worse than the understanding that he had a chance, but he was a coward to try. And now it possible he broke their friendship.
"I- I need time to find a way to believe we can be friends again. I need time to find a way with trusting you to have my back. And find a way to believe I can make you trust me to have yours. Because I-I must have done something to make you believe your love to me can break us. I made you feel that you can't be honest with me and I need time to-to get over all of it. I will put on for transfer," Buck sights as if he gave up. And Eddie feels like what is: that the moment he thought would happen because he was in love with his best friend. He never expects it happens because Buck loves him, but believes he is not trusting him.
"I don't know for how long. Maybe I will never come back," Eddie gets closer to Buck ready to beg him not to do it, not go away from 118 because Eddie was a coward, but Buck stops him with his hand. "You was in El Paso. I-I don't want to leave LA, but I need space from you Eddie," Buck takes something from his pocket and holds to Eddie. The key from his house burn his hand even if it's barely warm.
"I'll send Carla my schedule as soon as I have it to plan my meetings with Chris," Buck puts a hand on his face and gently touches it. "I don't want to see you till the moment I will text you I'm ready. I'm okay to see you only if we would have to work together. But don't come close to me or talk about something more than work. Gimme it, ok? Please, let me get over you how you already did," Buck begs and Eddie hates every word slipping from Buck's mouth but he knows he should do it. He should give Buck all the time he needs. "I can't even have text or calls and even passing of Chris with you. So, please, let Carla or Pepa be the one who will drop him to me," Buck touches his beauty spot under the eye, and Eddie hates himself from breaking this man and for never taking a chance to be whole heatedly loved by him.
"I love you so much that I can't even live without you, Eddie Diaz. I can't imagine my life without you. So I guess I should create a whole new life to stop. I'm sorry I made you believe I never loved you enough even as a friend that you needed to move on from me without talking," Buck turns from him and goes away, closing door behind him.
Eddie really hopes Buck will eventually back to this house, but the voice inside him screams it will never happen. He tries not to listen. Because it the same voice that screamed to get over Buck as the man would never love him. But the voice was wrong. Eddie needs it to be wrong again. Just this one time he needs it to be wrong. He can't loose Buck.

Here's an AU idea I had. Took some inspo from your Protective AU and ReikoMizutani's 'Whatever it Takes' fic. Mama Julieta is pissed and takes matters into her own hands.
Julieta stood in the courtyard of Casita, it was the dead of night and everyone else was asleep, and the only light came from the glowing candle that sat in the windowsill. Julieta looked up at the candle with pure disdain, she didn't understand, everyone had been given a special gift, everyone except little Mirabel, her gift ceremony was a few weeks ago, and the poor girl had been inconsolable ever since, she's convinced there's something wrong with her or she did something bad to not get a gift, but Julieta refuses to believe that, her Mirabel is the sweetest girl in the world, she deserves a gift more than anyone. As if being denied her birthright wasn't enough, people had begun to treat her differently, the townspeople gave her weird looks and whispered behind her back, Isabela had begun to distance herself from Mirabel, and Alma practically avoided her like the plague, shooing her away whenever she sought her out. To top it all off, Bruno had disappeared the night of Mirabel's ceremony, Julieta didn't know what to think about that, sure she was worried sick for her hermanito, but she had a horrible feeling that Bruno's disappearance was tied to Mirabel's ceremony in some way, if her brother had left simply because he was freaked out Mirabel didn't get a gift she would personally strangle him. It made her blood boil, Mirabel was crying herself to sleep each night in a nursery she had been promised she would move out of by now and was being ostracized by her own town and family for something she couldn't control, and it was all that stupid candle's fault!
Julieta seethed silently in anger until a clatter of tiles at her feet pulled her away from her thoughts, "what is it Casita?" She asked, unable to hide the anger in her voice, the house rumbled as it rearranged itself, forming a staircase up past the second floor and to the windowsill that held the candle. Julieta was confused but climbed the staircase nonetheless, she peeked through the window into the candle room to make sure her mother wasn't there before staring down at the candle like it was a piece of trash. "Why?" she asked angrily, "why did you do this to her? You were supposed to protect this family, how is ostracizing Mirabel protecting the family? All the other children got gifts, how is that fair? How does making Mirabel feel like she did something wrong, or isn't good enough for your miracle, help anyone?!" Julieta took deep breaths to keep herself from raising her voice further, the last thing she needed was to wake someone up. "Why?" She asked again, "doesn't she at least deserve an explanation?" The candle seemed to spark in response, was the candle mocking her? Julieta's anger came to a boiling point and she grabbed the candle in frustration, having half a mind to just throw it to the ground or snuff it out right then and there, but before she could do either of those things, the candle flared up and Julieta felt a burst of magic course through her.
The miracle answered, and everything became clear, of course, how could she have not seen it before? It wasn't the candle, or the miracle, it was Alma, she had always put so much pressure on the family, to use their gifts to serve the community, to earn their miracle, she demanded nothing less than perfection, Pepa was never allowed to just let her emotions be, she always had to bottle everything up and force moods on herself to make whatever weather was convenient, Julieta was practically chained to the kitchen since the day she turned five, seriously, who makes a five year old cook food for an entire town? And how many times have people come to her stand with minor injuries that would heal on their own within a week? It was ridiculous, poor Dolores had to hear so many uncomfortable things, invading other people's privacy just for the sake of 'keeping an eye on things' like she was little more than a walking surveillance system, and little Luisa, she had just gotten her gift a few years ago, but she was already saddled with so much work, just last week she had moved an entire house just so the owner wouldn't have to deal with their noisy neighbor, Julieta had tried to protest this, saying Luisa was too young to lift something that heavy, even with her super strength, but Alma had brushed her off, saying Luisa was 'just doing her part to help the community' why hadn't she objected more? She could see her daughter struggling under the weight, why hadn't she done more to stop it? It's no wonder Bruno left, Alma had always insisted he do visions to foresee potential danger and then chastise him when he gave a vision someone didn't like, as if he controlled the future. Bruno had already cracked under the pressure, how much longer until the rest of the family followed suit? Well no more.
Julieta held the candle close as she descended the staircase back to the ground floor, "thank you, Casita" she said as the home once again rearranged itself, the staircase now leading to a blank space on the wall of the second floor. Julieta smiled as she reached the second floor, she knew her daughter wasn't to blame for the failed ceremony, and she had been right, it was Alma's fault, Alma had put the gifts and serving the community over the well being of her family, in trying to 'earn' their miracle she had actually weakened it, to the point where the magic wasn't strong enough to give Mirabel a gift, Julieta would make sure the town knew who was to blame for the failed ceremony, she had heard far too many rumors about that regarding her daughter, but first she had to right her mother's wrong. Julieta put her hand on the wall, and the candle once again glowed brighter, the wall swirled with magic until it eventually formed a blank door, complete with an intricately carved doorknob engraved with an 'M', Mirabel's door was back, Julieta couldn't wait to see the look on her little girl's face, and she would make sure it works this time, Alma won't take anything else from this family ever again.
Bruno was startled from his sleep as Casita threw him off of the chair, "what was that for Casita?" He asked, Casita pointed towards the door of his makeshift room, urging him to look beyond it, Bruno shrugged and opened the door to see whatever it was Casita wanted him to see, in the darkness, it took Bruno a moment to see what it was Casita had woken him for, the cracks, which had laced the walls since long before Bruno took up residency there, were gone, some smaller cracks still remained, but the bigger ones that Bruno had tried desperately to patch had disappeared, as of they were never there. Bruno could only stare in shock as he thought back to his final vision, the one that drove him to hide within the walls:
Mirabel, standing in front of a cracked Casita, with Alma looming over her, holding the snuffed out candle and giving a stern look Bruno had come to expect from her, but shifting the tablet showed a different image, Mirabel in front of a now intact Casita, and instead of Alma, it was his sister Julieta, holding the burning candle as she smiled down at her daughter.
WHATEVER ITS TAKES MENTIONED RAHHHH 🦅🦅🦅
You i finished reading the rewrite. Amazing. Love the writing and the writer is so nice, y'all should check it out, its so good.
ANYWAY THIS IS SO RAD. I honestly need to do more protective content, its been a while (then again I need to revisit ALL my older aus tbh). Candle holder Julieta...I'm so down with it. Like who she is the most caring and she always has her family's beat interest in mind. Especially Mirabel. Imagine how heartbroken Julieta is whenever she's sees Mirabel mopping around. And she even noticed the other family members at their struggles. Like she wasn't having it anymore, and she is so real for that.
Also, random asf, but I love it when. They bully the candle. Like why bully each other, GET THAT CANDLE❗❓ anyway shout to candle for helping Julieta see who's REALLY at fault (Alma I still love you <///3).
Shameless plug to give fanart for whatever it takes and this snippet O(≧∇≦)O
Tumblr media
ALAO BRUNO!!! COME OUT THE WALLS!!! Or like. Something. Hopefully he sees Julieta taking a stand 😭
THIS IS SO GOOD I LOVED READING IT (twice) AND I CAN'T WAIT FOR MORE (if you have it and want to share with the class <333)
'Whatever It Takes" is by @reikomizuao3 on AO3 <3333

Can somebody explain where this all Pepa bashing came from? There's people saying that she was mean to Mirabel, and treated her the same way as Alma did.
But just... When??
From explanation that I saw, sone people saying that Pepa thundered when Mirabel sit right in front of her. But if you look, Pepa get to place first, Mirabel just jumped in and sit down for a few seconds faster. If I was Pepa I would be slightly annoyed too, she just can't hide it.
Then there's pre-WDTAB when she has her moment with Mirabel and looks annoyed. But in this sense Pepa acts more like Luisa right before surface pressure, trying to convince Mirabel that there's nothing wrong
The only moment that can be considered mean is when she asks Mirabel "What did you do?" blaming her for the cracks. But again, it was a tense moment when everyone was on edge. It doesn't excuse Pepa, but from her point of view it was easy to believe that Mirabel was guilty.

How did fractured Luisa react when she find out that Pedro abused Mirabel?
*fan girl screaming* You don’t know how long I’ve waited for this question.
Very, very sickened.
Warning: sensitive topics below.
~~~~~~
And Yet He Shot the Fawn
Luisa almost forgot what she was meant to be doing. A hug is the furthest thing in her mind. She is too busy staring at Mirabel’s back, neck and upper arms through the tears in her blouse, now that she’s closer… it looks awful. She can see the inside of Mirabel’s neck in one of the cuts.
Some of them are deep, like slices. Some are barely there. Some raised on her skin. Some are bloody and leaking profusely. Some are pink and angry. Some are white and fading.
There isn’t a patch of skin that isn’t marked.
All this time Luisa and Camilo have mocked Mirabel’s perfect posture and stiff back and shoulders…
No wonder. She looks like she would shatter.
But how did she get these injuries?
They look too precise to be an accident or an animal. Mirabel wouldn’t get into a fight. And it’s not like she could have done it herself, the angle is wrong.
It has to be someone else. Nobody spends time alone with her…
“Abuelo did it.”
Mirabel’s coldness broke a little at the name. She paled and took a small step back.
“You are tired and stressed, Luisa. You should get some rest—”
“He did. Didn’t he?”
Mirabel shifted from one foot to the other. “He and my tutors.”
There’s been so many tutors over the years. Is that why they were replaced so quickly? Coming and going from nowhere to prevent gossip?
All those adults… adults who were trusted by their family.
“When?” Luisa asked.
“I-I lost count; I don’t know the dates… it started when I was six. It hasn’t stopped.”
Is that why her blouse is all bloody and ripped now? Is that why Abuelo had been in her room just now? Is that why he has a riding crop - even though he has never owned a horse?
Has he been using a weapon on her this whole time?
“Why?”
“You have to understand that he isn’t doing it to hurt me.” Mirabel insists. “I was making mistakes and getting emotional. He is doing it to help me. I failed. I was being a burden to our family, I had to be taught a lesson.”
She doesn’t actually believe this… does she?
“I should find our parents, or someone else in the family. They can help—”
“Nobody will care.”
“What?”
“I call them Señor and Señora. I can’t feel, Luisa. Everyone is scared of me. Or thinks I’m a heartless monster. Or both. I haven’t had a relationship with anyone since I was Antonio’s age.” Mirabel’s eyes and voice are wracked with distress; the rest of her is oddly calm. “I don’t know what it feels like to love and be loved anymore. Abuelo does not love me. He loves my gift - if it were to disappear tomorrow, he’d want nothing to do with me.”
A tear slips from her eye then.
Luisa hates herself.
She (and Camilo) have teased and mocked and bullied this girl senseless. Abuelo Pedro’s little favourite. Señorita sin corazón.
She remembers Mirabel before her ceremony, a very different girl, begging Luisa to protect her.
“I don’t want a gift,” she’d weeped under their beds, ten years ago. “I want to stay here with you in the nursery. It’s safe here.”
And fuck. She was right.
That whole thing with Isabela? All those years ago was true… Isabela wasn’t just being bossy and annoying when she’d hiss at them to stop. She knew it happened once. Does she know it’s still going on?
And their parents? How could they not know? Even if they didn’t believe Isabela back then, wouldn’t they have checked with Mirabel?
What about Tía Pepa? She heals people. She heals everyone. Didn’t she ever think it was strange how she’s never treated Mirabel in the past nine years?
“I heard the cracks that night.” Luisa gasps dramatically before she can stop herself. “I wasn’t sure with all the commotion at first. I told him when we went back into Antonio’s room. He said, ‘If you can’t use your gift correctly, I will bash your head into the wall until you do. Like a soft arepa.”
Luisa just put a hand over her mouth.
At least she’d just been made to look like she was drunk.
“He didn't say the arepa bit.” Mirabel said, flat. “I thought it would be funny. I thought if I could cry, I could smile too. I suppose not.”
Luisa felt bile in her throat.
from Catching Lightning (which is now over 30K 🫠) Eddie returning home from another failed date...
Eddie drives home in the rain to an empty house, and what does he know about any of this? Maybe he’s not cut out for this. Maybe he’s supposed to be alone. The rain is mocking him but maybe it’s not wrong.
Everyone dies alone.
He texts Chris goodnight and doesn’t receive displeased messages from Pepa this time, but the raining picks up and turns into a storm that knocks out power to his whole neighborhood and leaves him in the dark.
There’s lightning in the dark.
And thunder loud enough to make his house creak and tremble. He curls up in his bed and his hands are fine. They’re not shaking like the house. His lungs aren’t wailing like the wind. His stomach is tight and tense, churning acid and emptiness, but he had a strong margarita and no dinner. Everything tastes like metallic fizzing on his tongue. There’s no flavor to anything. He didn’t want to eat, and it’s probably good that he didn’t because there’s lightning outside and he just feels like throwing up.
His phone has only 24% power left and he shouldn’t do it. He shouldn’t. He’s a grown man and it’s just a stupid storm and everything is fine. They’re not out in the bad weather. Lightning doesn’t strike twice?
It doesn’t have to. It kills everything on the first try.
Eddie was sore and bruised black and burned in a faint fractal for a week or so, but it was nothing like what happened to Buck.
Nothing is happening to Buck. He’s fine. He’s probably still on his date and fucking his new girlfriend in the middle of the storm. Or something equally stupid. Eddie’s not going to do anything. Because he’s fine and nothing is wrong.
And somehow his hands have other ideas because he’s picked up his dying phone, typed and sent a text before he’s even realized what he’s done.
Hey. Did your power go out? Ours went out. Mine I mean. Chris isn’t here. Everything is dead.
It’s stupid. Eddie is being so fucking stupid. And the longer he stares at the words and the little “delivered” under them without it changing to “read,” the worse it is.
Everything is dead. Everything. Everyone dies alone and lightning kills everything and Eddie doesn’t know how to feel, how to spark, how to chemistry, how to magic, how to build, how to love.
The things Eddie knows are gunfire. Helicopter crashes. Car crashes. Bombs and explosions. The earth collapsing and burying him alive. Freezing cold water. Drowning. Bleeding. He’s always bleeding. And then he’s ripped in half by cruel sudden nightmarish electricity.
The same kind that cracks and flashes outside his window. The only light that exists anymore. Because everything else dies.
He has to breathe. Frank taught him breathing. Inhale for eight seconds, hold for five seconds, exhale for eight seconds.
There are sounds, noises that aren’t thunder. There’s a light thumping near his bedroom door. On his bedroom door? Eddie didn’t lock it tonight. He didn’t need to. He usually doesn’t in case Chris needs something. But Chris isn’t here tonight. And Eddie’s too overloaded to shock or startle when his door opens. He doesn’t look. It’s dark. He can’t see much.
But he knows who sits next to him and touches him gently.
Eddie reaches, feels around for that hand resting on his arm. It turns like it might hold his, thread with his, weave them back together. Eddie doesn’t settle on his hand. He finds Buck’s wrist, curls his fingers around it, and presses below his thumb. Until there’s a radial pulse beating steadily against his fingers.
He has a pulse. His heart is beating. His heart is beating he’s alive his heart is alive.
There’s a sob that breaks out of Eddie’s chest. And then he’s crying. He’s crying and can’t stop.
“Hey,” Buck says. Gently. Sweet, soft, worried. Full of something that sounds like, feels like love. He touches Eddie the same way. A hand on his arm, a hand on his side. “Come here.”
Eddie doesn’t know reasons at this point. He doesn’t know arguing. He only knows needing to feel how Buck is alive.
Eddie sits up and Buck meets him with arms that close around him and hold him tightly. And he’s warm and alive and solid and breathing and real and Eddie breathes in the citrus vanilla coconut that lingers on him, and his own heart beats and beats and beats.
“It’s okay. I got you,” Buck whispers and rubs a hand over Eddie’s back and then strokes Eddie’s hair as he cradles the back of his head. “I’m okay. I’m right here.”
Eddie doesn’t ask how Buck knew, but of course he did. And with Buck in his arms, holding him tightly, the storm outside isn’t loud anymore. It’ll fade and burn out. Buck is safe. He’s alive. The tension melts away and Eddie is done crying and panicking. He’s not alone.
“Here. Scooch over.” Buck nudges him gently until Eddie moves backward into more of the middle of the bed. Buck takes his place, Eddie’s usual spot on the right side of the bed, and motions for Eddie to lie down with him.
It makes Eddie’s heart beat too hard. It’s not used to beating anymore. But Buck tucks his socked feet under the covers and he’s wearing dark gray sweatpants and a long-sleeved navy blue shirt. Clothes he sleeps in. And when Eddie lies down beside him, Buck directs Eddie’s head onto his own chest. Until Eddie can hear the clear, rhythmic thumping of Buck’s heart.
His heart is beating.
It’s loud and perfect and drowns out everything else. A fresh wave of tears leaks from Eddie’s eyes, too sudden and too much for him to stifle it.
Encantober Day 1: Sunset
Pepa sat down on the hillside overlooking the meadow. Today was easier than usual. She had been tasked with drying out a field that had gotten flooded when the river grew too full. It had been a rainy spring. Not her fault, of course. Okay, maybe some of it was her fault. Her boyfriend, Carlos, had broken up with her, and she took it pretty hard. But not all of it! Not all weather was her fault. She kept trying to tell people, and no one listened…
Thankfully, drying things out didn’t tax her as much as making it rain did. All she had to do was think happy thoughts and the sun came beaming down, strengthened by her gift. Usually, she’d think of her siblings. Or if there was a cute boy that she had her eye on, that worked too. When she was younger, it was animals that did the trick. She had no shortage of happy thoughts. It was the sad ones that were harder.
She’d settled in with her book, opening it eagerly. It was a new book, and she was dying to see how it would end.
A couple chapters in, she felt a shadow blocking the sunlight. Peering up, she saw a guy she didn’t recognize. Someone new, in their town? That didn’t happen often.
“Mind if I join you?” He spoke up.
“Go right ahead.” She folded the corner of her page and closed the book, setting it on the grass beside her.
“Hope I didn’t interrupt you reading.” He sat down next to her.
“No, it’s fine.” She was dying to know what happened next, but this new guy intrigued her. “I haven’t seen you around before. Are you new here?”
He nodded. “My family just moved here. My name’s Félix.”
“Pepa.” She took his proffered hand, shaking it. His hand felt strong, rough. Pepa felt sparks go through her that had nothing to do with her gift.
 “It’s nice to meet you, Pepa. I was exploring around and came upon this little meadow here.” He held a hand in front of his face conspiratorially. “To be honest, I needed a break from my little siblings. They drive me crazy sometimes.”
Pepa laughed at the comment. “How many siblings do you have?”
“Five. And I’m the oldest.” He rolled his eyes playfully. “Do you have siblings?”
She nodded. “A brother and sister, but we’re triplets, so no one is really the oldest. Well, Julieta acts like she is, but she’s only like five minutes older. Can’t have gained that much wisdom during that time.”
His laughter was one of the most beautiful sounds she’d ever heard. “Oh, I’m sure she gained so much wisdom. Those five minutes were very important.”
Pepa gasped and shoved him reflexively.
He fell over. For a second, Pepa was afraid she’d hurt him, but he sat up like nothing was wrong. “Hey, us older siblings have to stick together!” He defended himself.
“She’s not-“ Pepa began, outraged, but stopped short at the grin that cracked on his face.
“I’m kidding.” He shook his head good-naturedly. “Lighten up, Pepa.”
Those words struck dangerously close to home. How many times had the other kids told her the same thing? How many times had her mamá warned her to rein in her emotions? She blinked rapidly to quell the tears. Clear skies, clear skies, clear skies…
Félix cleared his throat. “Okay, that was a bad joke. Sorry.” He offered her a sheepish smile. “Anyway…you said you had a brother too?”
“Bruno.” Her voice was flat. She’d managed to stop the spiral, but it always took her a little bit to pull herself out of a funk. “His name’s Bruno.”
“Bruno.” Félix scratched his head. “I haven’t met him yet.”
Pepa barked a laugh. “I don’t imagine you would have. He hardly ever leaves his tower.”
“Tower?”
Pepa gestured towards their casita. It was barely visible from this distance, but one could still make out the distinctive shape of a tower.
“Okay, Bruno has a tower. Why not?”
Pepa appreciated his nonchalance. People weren’t so accepting of Bruno. Granted, Félix hadn’t met him yet, but Pepa had a feeling he’d be different. He was so friendly; she just couldn’t imagine him being mean to Bruno.
“Wait…” Félix appeared to be puzzling something out. “My papá said that’s where the Madrigals live. Are you a Madrigal? Is it true what people say, about the magic gifts?” He sounded genuinely curious, his voice lacking the usual tone of suspicion.
“Yes, I’m a Madrigal,” Pepa said simply, ignoring the second question. “Tell me about your family. I feel like we’ve just been talking about mine.”
Caught off guard by her abruptness, Félix shrugged. “Well, they don’t have magic gifts, but they’re still pretty cool. Most of the time. My papá is named Roberto, my mamá is Antonia, and then there’s my siblings: Felipe…”
If Pepa said she remembered all the names he listed off, she’d be lying. She was too focused on the dimples in his cheeks when he smiled, the excitement in his voice as he told her about all his family members. It was clear he loved them very much, and she found that sweet.
Suddenly, he stopped talking. “Is it just me, or did the sun get brighter?” He shielded his eyes, glancing up at the sky.
Horrified, Pepa followed his eyes. It was true. She’d become so happy, enthralled by his presence, that she’d unwittingly made the sun shine more brightly. “Sorry,” she apologized, rubbing the end of her braid nervously.
“Why are you sorry?” He asked, confused. “It’s not like you control the sun.” He tried to meet her eyes, which bored firmly into the ground. “Wait- do you control the sun?” The realization seemed to dawn on him. “Is that your gift? You control the sun?”
He sounded awed, not scared. Pepa took that as a good sign. “Technically, I affect the sun,” she corrected. “Other weather too. It’s connected to my emotions.”
Her cheeks grew red. Why did she admit that? Félix had a way of disarming her. She was in trouble if he kept going like this.
But he seemed to take it in stride. “What does bright sunlight mean?” He pointed up at the still blazing sun.
“It means happiness.” A thin veil of fog enveloped Pepa, for which she was grateful.
“And the fog?” Félix observed her. “Wait, you’re blushing. Are you okay?” His eyebrows wrinkled concernedly.
She gave a noncommittal shrug. “Whatever I feel visibly manifests as various weather phenomena. My emotions are on full display for everyone all the time.” She swept her hand over her head. “You tell me if I’m okay.”
“Doesn’t seem like it,” he deduced. He scooted closer to her. “That seems like… a lot.”
She scoffed. “You can say that again! Julieta got the most useful gift. She can heal people with her food. And Bruno, he sees the future. What do I get? Here, Pepa; why don’t you get a gift that makes you thunderstorm when you’re mad and rain when you’re sad? That’ll surely help the town!” She huffed. The cloud that had sprung up overhead weighed heavily on her.
Félix studied her. “And makes the sun shine when you’re happy,” he pointed out.
“What?” Pepa was still mired down in her turmoil.
“Earlier, when the sun was brighter, you said it was because you’re happy.” He reached out his hand towards her, placing it on the grass between them. “So it’s not all bad.”
“I suppose not,” she conceded. “It’s still dumb though. And a lot of pressure. You try dealing with the knowledge that the town’s crops depend on how you feel that year.”
“Because you’re so happy you’ll dry them out?”
“Try because if I’m too sad I’ll drown them.” Pepa hmphed. The corner of her lip curved upward though in recognition of his attempt to cheer her up.
“I see.” Félix tapped his chin thoughtfully. “Guess we’ll just have to make sure you stay happy.”
Again, the words she’d heard a million times before came out of his mouth. Once again, they lacked the tinge of cruelty that normally accompanied them. She peered over through her fingers to see him beaming at her. “Good luck with that.”
“I seem to be doing a pretty good job so far. You were happy earlier,” he noted with a smirk.
Pepa couldn’t help the smile that erupted on her face.
“There’s that beautiful smile,” Félix said. “Glad to see it again.”
Was he flirting with her? Pepa couldn’t believe it. Okay, lots of boys had flirted with her, but this one was different. He was special. She could feel it. With a start, she looked up to find the cloud had vanished and the sun had returned to its previous brightness; albeit far lower in the sky.
She cleared her throat. “It’s getting late.” She pointed towards the setting sun. “I should get back home before my mamá starts wondering where I am.”
“Of course.” Félix helped her up. “Wouldn’t want her to think you were out with a boy or something.” His lip quirked into a smile.
Oh, he was definitely flirting with her. “What she doesn’t know won’t hurt her.” She flashed him a coy smile. Two could play at that game.
They walked back together until he reached the street where his family lived. “Until next time, rayo de sol.” He waved goodbye.
The townspeople who were outside later said they’d never seen such a brilliant sunset.
When did it happen?” Buck chokes out, unable to hold in the tears that were streaming down his cheeks.
“Buck, when did what happen?” Eddie asks as he scans over Buck’s body first to make sure nothing is physically wrong before his eyes wander over to the rest of the living room, checking to see if something had fallen or broken. He’d just gotten back from the gym and a few errands, and was rightfully confused by the absolute wreck of a man on his couch.
Buck wipes his tears with his sleeve, finally looking over to Eddie who looked like he was prepared to hear that Buck had gotten into a car accident when he picked Christopher up from Tia Pepa’s or that Maddie had left again or that his parents had said something that finally brought him to the edge of-
“He just asked me to put the tassel on his graduation cap.”
Habits (GN!Reader)
Tumblr media
You can decide who this is with. Agatha, Pepa, Julieta, Carla, Ajak, Alma, any woman on my masterlist.
Idea taken from "Costumbres" by Rocío Dúrcal.
_____________________
You saw her walk away down the empty street, hidden in the night. The sound of her footsteps faded after a few seconds and her silhouette melted into the darkness a few moments later, just like the fleeting feeling of belonging inside you.
It was always like that, no matter how much you told yourself that it was wrong, that you shouldn't go through with it, that you needed to let her go, no matter how much you swore it would be the last time, it never was. She always came back.
Sometimes she would take days, other times weeks, but never more than a month. Even she couldn't stay away that long, and you couldn't let yourself forget about her either, though not for a lack of trying.
You had a strange relationship. You had loved her, perhaps more than you would ever admit aloud, and she had loved you back, perhaps less than her voice swore, but time kept on dancing on the clock and fate rearranged the pieces, and in that chaos, you realized that you did not fit in with her, that you did not belong by her side.
It was painful to realize it, but deep down, you knew what had to happen. The day she left, the black clouds swirled above your house, as if they could sense your own mood, and yet you managed to smile at her, wish her well, and not call out her name as she was lost in the sea of people.
You spent the first day locked in your room, in the chair or the dressing table, but never in your bed, you couldn't, not when her perfume was still there. By the third you learned to breathe again. On the fifth your feet woke up, on the twelfth you reconciled with sleep, on the fifteenth you recovered the taste for your favorite dishes, on the twentieth you smiled again. And at fiftieth...
On the fiftieth, she came back.
You wish you could say you weren't expecting her, you really wanted to say she had taken you by surprise. But it was not like that. There were no whispered apologies, no warm hugs, no secret smiles, not even that spark that had brought you together in the first place, nothing. Just...she was there. It was a fact, cold and raw, nothing more.
A weak, quick "hello" was all it took for the dance you were now dancing, and had been doing for the past five years, to begin.
It was strange, you didn't know anything about her, about her life, if there was someone you were betraying by receiving her when her most carnal passions needed you, but you didn't care much either.
You missed her, you always missed her, and no matter how much she denied it, you knew she couldn't forget you either, no matter how hard she tried. She was always going to come back, over and over, and over again. Even if she didn't feel any more love for you, just a grudge.
Neither did you if you were honest. You no longer had anything to feel for her, and that was worse.
But you missed her, you missed her so much. You missed not feeling alone, the warmth of sharing a bed with someone, of feeling someone else's skin on yours, of hearing happiness flowing from the lips attached to yours. It didn't matter that the illusion lasted a few hours before she was gone again. It was fine, she would come back, she always did.
"There is no doubt, it is true that habit is stronger than love" you whispered before closing the window and going back to bed.
Unpopular Opinion:
I hate the Bruno part of the All Of You song, and I hate that BRUNO was the one apologizing!
He did nothing wrong! He had NOTHING to apologize for!
The others need to apologize to HIM! They should have been begging him for forgiveness for how they shunned and vilified and mistreated him! ESPECIALLY Alma and Pepa, but also the rest of the adult Madrigals and all the townspeople!
Exactly!
The movie put it on Bruno, the victim, to apologize to the people who shunned and vilified him, while said people who shunned and vilified him get off scott-free without having to apologize or anything.
What a great way to put the responsibility onto the victim to apologize for something their bullies/abusers did to them….
Encantober 2023 Day 7: Storm
The Encanto was going through one of the worst tropical storms they had in a long time. The entire village had to stay indoors until the storm wore off. Knowing how bad it was going, it seemed like they were going to be staying inside for at least a week. All the villagers could think was, “what has gotten Pepa so upset that she’s storming this bad?”
In Casita, the Madrigal family could not help but notice Pepa’s door acting up. The rest of the family decided that it was best to leave her alone and stay in their respective rooms except for meals during the storm to keep themselves safe. Julieta and Agustin suggested that Felix stayed in their room during the storm, and while he agreed at first, all he could think to himself was how awful his wife was feeling and wanted to be there for her.
“I really don’t think I should be in here anymore. Pepa’s been at this emotional meltdown for over an hour. I need to be there for her.”
“Are you sure? Because if I were you, I would be terrified to step foot in my room. I never experienced her mood being this bad before,” Agustin explained.
“No me importa. I was never scared of her, ever since we first met. What makes you think I’m going to be scared of her now?”
“I was just giving you my opinion. I would just be cautious.”
Felix shrugged it off as Julieta came back in the room with a full place of arepas. “I figured we could enjoy some before the kids see us and start begging us for some.”
Agustin, Felix, and Julieta grabbed an arepa each from the plate and took a bite of them simultaneously. “Juli, do you think I’m not making the right decision by checking up on Pepa?”
“Felix, what makes you think you’re not making the right decision?”
“Because Agustin is telling me that he would be too terrified to even enter the room if he was in this situation.”
“Oh, you know that Agustin would be scared in any unfamiliar situation. I’ve known you for most of our lives, and nobody can calm Pepa down like you can. There’s no need for you to feel as hesitant as you are right now.”
Felix took another bite out of his arepa. “Gracias, Julieta; I figured I wasn’t making a wrong decision. I just needed someone to confirm for me.”
“De nada, Felix; and you don’t need any confirmation. You’re already great at making good decisions.”
Felix grabbed another arepa from the plate and put it in a handkerchief for Pepa after she calmed down. He made his way out of Julieta’s room and stared across the hall to see Pepa’s door. It was flashing so constantly that none of the other doors have ever flashed before. He slowly made his way to his room to see how Pepa was doing. Once he got to his room, he slowly opened the door to see Pepa on the bed, the room flooded with rain and storm clouds surrounding it. She did not put her head up until she heard Felix’s voice.
“...Pepi? Is everything okay?” he asked as he made his way into the room.
Pepa put her head up, but continued crying. “Go away,” she said bluntly.
“Look, I see that you’re upset right now, but I just want to try to help you. There is a massive tropical storm spreading throughout the Encanto and we’re scared we need to stay evacuated for at least a week.”
“So? I’ve lived here my entire life and had my gift for over forty-five years. They know how to deal with this.”
“Not to this extreme. I never remembered seeing a storm this bad in the Encanto.”
Pepa ignored her husband and continued crying into her pillow, allowing the clouds and flood to grow. Felix never felt this lost his entire life. Normally, he would never be this lost in helping Pepa. Normally, he would have an answer when it came to calming down his wife. But right now, he has nothing.
Felix sat on his bedside as Pepa continued crying. All he could think about was how he was going to fail as a husband if this was not solved immediately. As much as she tried to, she just could not stop crying. She tried to do everything in her power to stop, but the tears just kept on coming. Not even the presence of her husband could calm her down at the moment. That was, until Felix had an idea.
“Stay right there, Pepita, I’m going to get something for you.”
Felix left the room to leave Pepa be for a couple minutes. He made his way down the hall and knocked on the nursery’s door. Mirabel answered the door to see her uncle standing in front of the door.
“I thought we were supposed to be in our rooms right now. It’s still pretty bad right now.”
“I know, Mira, but I think I know what will calm Pepa down. Do you have any sewing supplies we could use together?”
“I have a lot of it. But I thought you didn’t know how to sew.”
“That’s why I’m asking you to help me. You also know what fabrics and scents calm Pepa down more than anyone else in this house. If you help me make something that could be the calmest thing imaginable, maybe the storm will pass.”
Mirabel agreed after taking out her box of sewing supplies. She showed Felix all the fabrics she often used and grabbed another box from her closet. It was filled with scents she sometimes used when she wanted to give anything she made a little extra kick.
“I have every fabric that every member of this family likes in this box, and every scent this family likes in this other box. Since Pepa’s most comforting fabrics and absolute favorite scent is available, we can make a little toy for her that should calm her down instantly.”
Felix could not be any more grateful for having a niece as smart as Mirabel. Not only did she know which fabrics comforted which family members, but she also knew what scents every family member loved better than anyone else. The uncle and niece dug through the boxes to find Pepa’s most comforting fabric to begin making a toy for her.
------------------------------------------
The toy took about two hours to finish, but they finished it and Felix took it and made his way back to his room. Pepa’s door was still flashing and the storm was starting to get worse. Felix was starting to tremble because now he thought this was not going to work. Regardless, he still made his way back to his room in hopes that it would. He knocked on the door as slowly as he could until Casita opened the door for him. He made his way into his room to see his wife still crying into her pillow, in the same position she was in when he left.
“Pepi, I have something for you. Do you want to see it?”
Pepa ignored him and continued crying into her pillow. Felix moved closer to her and sat on their bedside in hopes he could smell the vanilla scent. He already knew before Mirabel told him that it was her favorite smell.
“It’s super comforting. Mirabel helped me make it.”
Pepa reached her hand out to try and grab the toy from Felix, so he put it in her hand. She put her hand back to notice it was silk. It was the most comforting fabric to her; almost every cuddle toy she owned was made out of silk. Not that long after, she smelled the vanilla scent from the toy and immediately stopped crying. She continued feeling and smelling the toy; it felt like it was a small plush bunny. Pepa lifted her head from her pillow to see a small, white, silk bunny with a vanilla scent to it. Her clouds slowly began to disappear and the storm turned into a small drizzle.
“Wow; this is the best thing anyone has ever given to me. How did you make this?”
“I got help from Mirabel. I didn’t think anything would calm you down, because I tried to talk to you and you ignored me.”
“Lo siento, mi amor; I never meant to ignore you out of harm. I was just too angry to talk to anyone and I didn’t want to hurt you.”
The couple hugged each other as Pepa’s storm clouds turned into sunshine and rainbows. “What got you so angry in the first place?” Felix asked.
“I was out doing chores and I saw a couple of girls coming into the fields. They came closer to me and I saw it was my high school bully, Valentina, with girls that I had never seen before. She came up to me and made all these comments about my insecurities to see if she could make me snap, and she did. Before the storm started, I… beat her just like I often did when we were teenagers.”
Felix hugged his wife one more time while she squeezed the bunny. The storm may have stopped, but there was a lot of damage, both in the Encanto and inside Pepa, that needed to be fixed. He knew it was going to be a hard job when he started dating her, but he took it for over thirty years and was still happy to do it now.
I'm sick but I'm still going to do this.
Thanksgiving with the Madrigals!
Just some funny drama, skits, and wholesome things.
Kitchen drama!
Julieta is cooking of course 😋 👌 😌. (*Camilo trying to sneak food but gets popped with a hand to spoon*)
Dolores is the ears to make sure nothing crazy happens mostly to keep Camilo from eating food before its done. Her and Isabella helping cut vegetables and season while Juileta cooks it, she also seasons the food.
Agustin wants to help but he makes a mess (he hurts himself from cutting his fingers, stubbing his toe, and burning himself and his wife heals him he goes with the fellas to do something so he doesn'thurt himself again)
Mirabel planning out everything her, Camilo argue over him doing something wrong like not setting the table right to her catching him slacking on the job (she caught him eating food he snuck out the kitchen under a table or in a closet he has his face stuffed with food looking like a deer in head lights 😆 🤣.)
Antonio is playing with the animals and helping too. Watches cartoons with his dad and tio Bruno with the rat who are eating food in the corner with Camilo.
Lusia help Isabella pick the vegetables and fruits needed, and move tables & chairs around. Helped her mother with cooking too. Her and Isabella help mirabel too from flowers to the guest list.
Pepa and Felix make sure Camilo doesn't eat anything..again.
Pepa and Felix entertain the people with Bruno who has his rat do a performance.
Fights again but this time Camilo and his brother Carlos (just pretend he's in the family I added him in) are fighting over a girl & food...again. the boys fight like it's WWE smack down.
Afterwards they calm down, Carlos tried to help In the kitchen but burned the pie (4 of them) which means he has to in the living since Abulea doesn't want the new Casita to burn down.
Antonio plays with the animals and helps make another pie & does well, he also made cake with mirabel and so he did great.
Eating contest/ fun
Camilo wins the pie eating contest as always. He and Carlos made it into a tie for the last slice.
Camilo entertains others with Carlos with Bruno. Mirabel playing the accordion singing with the others.
They enjoy tales and partying having fun, they have family members coming just to get a plate and leave.
Camilo fixes a 5th plate when no one was looking. (Got caught by Bruno fixes a plate putting extra Mac & cheese eating while fixing the plate) A family member brought their wife over and she made casserole with raisins in it. (Poor Julieta fainted, everyone was sick even Camilo who'd eat anything almost threw up)
Someone said Pepa's corn bread was a little dry (poor fella caught hell. Camilo & Carlos almost choked and Bruno had to intervene before he got hurt, and Felix had to hold her back and Julieta calmed her too)
If you want a part 2 let me know.
Happy Thanksgiving y'all! 🦃
I had a dream and it was so random I just had to share it lmao. I guess it would be an Encanto Au, kinda? (Also anything in parentheses is commentary from me.)
So it started with both Julieta & Agustín and Pepa & Félix were having trouble having children (any pregnancy conceived would end in either miscarriage or stillborn). Bruno tried to have visions about whether or not his sisters could have children, but each time he tried, the only thing he saw were glowing butterflies.
Alma felt that it was Agustín and Félix’s faults, but aside from a few snide comments nothing came of it.
In a bout of desperation, Julieta and Pepa went to the candle and begged for a miracle. Stating that they would give up their own gifts. The candle responded and the flame glowed brightly for a brief moment before going back to normal. (They did lost their gifts for a few days, but they had them back by the time the babies were born).
And just like that Pepa and Julieta were pregnant. (And unlike what I was expecting Mirabel & Antonio were the first to be born not Isabela & Dolores)
(There was like a time skip I guess, I wasn’t really dreaming it was just blank.) But Mirabel was born around 18 minutes before Antonio, and she cried until they were put together. Once they were, soft lights began to spawn before glowing white butterflies began to appear. (Bruno’s visions began to make a lot more sense.)
Two of the butterflies were different, they were both slightly bigger than the rest. One glowed yellow (was around with Antonio) and the other teal (was mainly around Mirabel). It was hard to tell that there were separate swarms of butterflies since they were always together. (They seemed to be able to talk to each other without actually speaking so maybe telepathy or something?)
The Madrigals referred to the two as their miracles, and they were incredibly spoiled. They got away with everything and got anything they want. Mirabel & Antonio were both incredibly sweet, they were the town’s little prince and princess. The twin miracles.
Around 2 years passed before a new butterfly appeared around Antonio. It was also little bigger than the others and glowed orange. Everyone but the twins were confused (the two weren’t telling them anything) until Pepa began to show signs of pregnancy. And boom Camilo was born (Antonio named him). The twins always seemed to know if the new baby needed anything (I think it was the butterfly telling them, but not 100% sure)
Same thing happened 3 years later a blue butterfly began to glow around Mirabel. Julieta was pregnant and gave birth to Luisa (Mirabel named her) and they always knew when something was wrong. Then again 2 years later, a red butterfly showed up around Antonio while a purple one was with Mirabel. Already knowing what to expect the Madrigals began to prepare for the new babies. Mirabel & Antonio once again named their respective sibling. And had an innate sense to knowing when something was wrong.
It was clear that the parents favored their first born children, however none of the children minded since they always had each other. And while the youngest ones could be a bit bratty at times their older sister and brother would always be there to remind them to be kind!
(Another time skipped happens I think) By this point Mirabel & Antonio are 13, Camilo is 11, Luisa is 8, and Dolores & Isabela are 6. Mirabel had made butterfly clips for them all (or at least I think they were butterflies, I just know that they were their respective colors.) And all of them had little butterflies made of light following them around!
And that’s where I woke up. Honestly kinda disappointed, because I wanted to see what happened next😭😭
That's honestly so real tho 😭 you know how many dreams I've had and they just ended. Like I can't fathom how interesting they are and then they'll just end.
ANYWAYYYYYYY This sounds interesting❗❗ Makes you wonder, like what was the root idea for stuff like this 😭😭 AYYY BUT AT LEAST THEY'RE ALL COOL WITH EACH OTHER 🌚🌚 (Alma L tho. Like what kind of logic is that 🥸)
Brawn's done so much wrong
"She probably got infected." Isabela pointed out looking at Luisa for a second to make her message clear. Luisa's guts twitched into a knot. Of course, Mama's door was in the same condition as hers. Whatever happened to her was transmissible.
Another plate of stone Luisa suffering that I and @miracles-and-butterflies are writing? Yes, please
Luisa leaned against one of the pillars, not even daring to look up on her flickering engraved door. In her current state, she wasn't able to actually go upstairs which left her down here, in everyone's sight because there was no way to hide. Her parents most likely went to make another meal to try and cure her. Luisa was skeptical about this. Mama's food did nothing earlier, why would it change now?
Her hair fell out of its place, clinging to her torn clothes. Blood corked inside the spreading stone until it forced outside. The weights attached to her arms, what used to be her biceps before, burthened her, pushing her to the ground with gravity and making it even harder to move properly.
Even her movements were unnatural: twitchy and small because the stone just couldn't be moved properly. This didn't add anything better to what had been left of her humanity. Even if Luisa doubted there was anything at all. Was she even Luisa at this point? How much of her was left in this monstrous body?
It was cold. At first, Luisa thought it was because of the lifeless stone spreading underneath her skin. But the way flowers quivered on the wind made her realize that it was something with the weather. She heard her Tia rushing just nearby but couldn't look out in time. Her movements were too slow considering how much the pebble had spread in the core of her existence.
Luisa raised her head, her neck creaked, the stone in it cracked even so little. For a second, she stared at the shining doors. Her heart ached more than her body, seeing her own. It was high above her head, flickering like a fading flame. Her life, the one on which she had spent years of her life, was out of reach.
It took another second for her to realize that there was another door in the same state. Luisa gasped in horror, almost losing balance over her body for a bit. Her mother's room entrance wasn't any better than Luisa's. And, according to Luisa's personal experience, it meant nothing good.
Luisa pushed her way to the kitchen. It took a decent time to even arrive here. Everyone stopped whatever they were doing, startled by her not-so-quiet entrance. Luisa was never the silent type, but now it was even worse. Isabela swallowed, stepping away despite how far away she had been already. Luisa didn't blame her. Even if she couldn't see herself, she knew that she would have the same reaction in her sister's place.
At least, towering over everyone else in the family, Luisa didn't have to stand close to look over them and see what was going on. Papa and Tia Pepa sat by the sides of the chair Mama was in and patted her spine. Luisa could see a series of deep, nasty wounds spreading through the healer's body. They appeared out of nowhere and leaked with thick blood and then just grew together, healing. Skin boiled with blisters.
Luisa let out a shaky breath. Her first instinct was to run to her mother, but she stopped herself. Taking how she couldn't control her illustrious strength she didn't take the risk of hurting Julieta even more. Her fingers shifted in worry, scratching her skirt and pulling the threads apart.
Abuela's eyes returned to Julieta, demanding as always. "What did Mirabel do to you? We need to stop this-"
"Can you stop blaming my daughter for her damn existence for ten minutes?" Agustin snarled, his palm lying on Julieta's shoulder.
"You need to think about this family!" Argument. Again.
Luisa could hardly believe Abuela. She herself was in discomfort far before she even saw Mirabel. She just didn't pay attention to it until it was impossible to endure.
"She probably got infected." Isabela pointed out looking at Luisa for a second to make her message clear.
Luisa's guts twitched into a knot. Of course, Mama's door was in the same condition as hers. Whatever happened to her was transmissible.  She looked down in shame. She didn't mean to transfer this thing to anyone. Her role was to protect her family, but the only thing she did ever since her body started to change was causing them harm. What was left of her muscles winced at the thought of doing something even worse. How far would she go? Bless her, Julieta only wanted to comfort her, and Luisa had paid her with this?
Her hand moved a little, slightly curving around the opposite arm to grab it. But it wasn't like Luisa could feel it anyway. Right now sounds were telling her about her physical condition as much if not more than physical senses. The cracking came from her body when she dared to bend her limbs even so little, rough attrition against the numb stone. She couldn't bring herself to look at her family. Listen to her parents' argument with Abuela over Isabela's words. Luisa wasn't exactly on their side. For as much as she wished for it not to be true, Isabela had the best proof. Her parents were the closest to her ever since it started. It made far more sense for Julieta to be infected when she was this close. Like a plague jumped from person to person. Luisa couldn't comprehend why they even bothered to protect her. She undoubtedly wasn't their daughter anymore. They should just disown her.
Yes, her Mama was now affected too. But it still was different. With all these injuries appearing on her, her body wasn't altered from the inside. She still was a human. Much unlike Luisa who couldn't label herself as anything even remotely human. Not when her body melted together, pushing the blood, water, air - everything out of her body until it was dull from the core.
Agustin felt torn apart between the need to comfort his wife and his daughter. He looked at Pepa. And as she nodded he moved from Julieta to Luisa
"Mija, how are you doing?" He squeezed her arm, not battling an eye when the rough surface scratched his palm. Luisa pulled away, stepping back. She had contaminated her mom already, she didn't want to affect her dad too. Especially when there was no way to tell if it happened without a magic door.
Agustin fell to the ground with a thud because of a rapid movement. Luisa felt tears rising in her eyes. She didn't mean to cause even more harm. She just couldn't control her strength. "I'm sorry." She murmured to nobody in particular, tasting the scree. What else could she say? Her breathing hitched as her fingers cracked in an attempt to move outside of the place they were locked into.
"It's okay," Her Papa fixed his glasses, pushing them up. He made another attempt to comfort Luisa.
"Don't touch me." She snapped without wanting to, stone rubbed against what was left of her human body, making the blood leak under her blouse. Her face dropped down even more, even if it was barely visible with her restricted facial muscles. Why did she keep hurting everyone around her? Luisa breathed out, her eyes were running around. Between her concerned parents and Tios, shifting in pain mom, tensed Abuela and terrified grossed Isabela. "I don't want this to affect you too..." She begged, hoping to give herself at least some excuse, even if changed nothing in how awful she felt.
Seeing worry in her dad's eyes was almost as much of a torture as a stone draining out her humanity. "Lulu, you won't," he begged, restricting himself from getting too close. It would only make Luisa feel worse. "You aren't some sick patient. You won't harm anyone."
Ironic of him to say that. The only thing Luisa seemed to do now was hurt everyone around her for no reason.
