hi!! idk what this is, it just came to me and i wanted to write it so... yeah.
"Buck," Eddie sighs and looks down at the blond, lying half-naked on his bed, so drunk that he has fallen asleep. At least he managed to get rid of his clothes, they’re all in a heap on Eddie's bedroom floor, and he’s only wearing his boxer briefs. In any other circumstances, Eddie would be over the moon.
Right now, though? He's just angry and sad. Angry at all the people who's made Buck feel like he's not enough and sad because – well, Buck is the sun. He's the best man Eddie knows and he deserves so much better than the shitty cards life has given him.
Eddie nudges him lightly, but Buck only snores in response.
"How is he?" Maddie asks, sticking his head through the open door. He looks like she’s about to leave.
"Out cold," Eddie mutters. "I've never seen him this drunk, to be honest."
"Yeah, he's taken the break-up pretty badly." Maddie sighs. "Do you need me to stay tonight?"
"No, it's okay. I got him."
And Eddie does. He'll notice if Buck wakes up or if he pukes in his sleep. Eddie will keep Buck safe. He has his back, he's always had.
He doesn’t sleep that night. Instead he tucks Buck in, checking that he isn’t too hot or too cold. When Buck slightly wakes up, his eyes fluttering open and squinting in the dimmed lit room, he turns to Eddie and mutters an "I'm sorry." that Eddie doesn't quite understand what is for.
Buck wakes up a little more later in the night and clings to Eddie, whispering to himself. Eddie manages to only get half of it. "I tried, I tried making it work." and "She'll wasn’t you. She never would be you."
Words that make Eddie's heart grow wings and at the same time shatter it entirely because he doesn't – he doesn't dare to hope. Buck is drunk and incoherent.
And then Eddie sits on the chair in the corner of his bedroom, making sure that Buck won’t suffocate on his own vomit, or something else. He doesn’t relax until Buck gets up around 5 AM, probably more asleep than awake, to go to the bathroom without even noticing Eddie sitting there. He pauses when he walks back in the room, though, and frowns at Eddie, like he's trying to determine if he's dreaning or if Eddie really is there.
"Eddie?" Buck whispers, his voice hoarse and cloaky.
"Yeah."
And maybe it's because the alcohol hasn't quite left Buck’s body yet, maybe it's because he's still in the drunk haze mixed in with the remainings of his sleep tired brain, but Buck reaches out for Eddie in the softest, most vulnerable way possible and asks: "Sleep with me?"
And Eddie can't seem to refuse. He doesn't think he'll ever be able to refuse Buck for anything. Not in this lifetime.

Eddie being really shadey about a date he has coming up.
Eddie shutting down when someone on the team asks him about the woman.
Eddie refusing to talk about how he met the person he’s going on a date with so the team assumes its someone from a call. Cue everyone trying to figure it out and coming to the (wrong) conclusion about who it is.
Buck worrying that maybe Eddie isn’t going on a date at all and maybe he’s backsliding and street fighting again.
Buck offering to watch Chris just so he can see Eddie when he gets home.
Buck waiting up for Eddie even though he’s way later than either of them expected.
Eddie coming home with a little pep in his step because wasn’t a bad date, it wasn’t a bad date at all. He’s not going to go out the person again, but the date felt good.
Buck being desperate to ask Eddie what’s going on, only to chicken out at the last minute because Eddie doesn’t look like he was street fighting.
Eddie being brave and telling Buck the date was with a man and he’s queer.
Buck realizing he never told Eddie he’s bi and blurting it out in response.
Eddie and Buck making really intense eye contact in the doorway between the living room and dinging room without saying anything.
Buck and Eddie not knowing who moved first, but now they’re kissing and neither of them wants to stop.
Hen asking Eddie how the date went on his next shift and Eddie shrugs and says it was good but he’s not going to go out with him again.
Buck coming up the stairs to the loft at that exact moment and turning bright red when Eddie smiles at him.
The whole team realizing what Eddie just said at the same time that Eddie hands Buck a cup of coffee. They lean together against the counter and watch for their own little world as all hell breaks loose.
Hen realizing a few hours into the shift ‘oh Buck and Eddie, yeah that makes sense’. She lets them wait to tell the team when they’re ready.

"I love you," Buck said, fingertips on Eddie's chin to keep his head up. "Unconditionally. You hear me?" Eddie was struggling to meet his gaze, eyes rimmed with red from crying, but he managed a small nod. "I love you," Buck repeated. "And there's nothing you can do to change that." Swallowing thickly, Eddie slid his arms around Buck and hugged him tight. "Thank you," he whispered.
Just a little something I wrote once that exists on its own because I have no other thoughts for it. Hope you liked it!

Oh god okay here we go
Tumblr media
Why must I go into heavy detail you ask? Well, I am actually unable to shut up so here it is them 10 TOP “there’s no chance this is a straight friendship” MOMENTS
“You can have my back any day” aka the enemies to lovers speedrun. The immediate feeling we’re supposed to get from the screen is jealousy. Buck is jealous of the new recruit because he’s hot, a medic, a veteran, whatever. I’ll give it to you children, he WAS jealous. But then they go on call and they get into immediate danger bc 911 is a drama and then Eddie’s very keen on being Buck’s partner. Nothing queer til then right? WRONG. Eddie’s line is pretty normal but the way Buck reacts isn’t. I have had my fair share of “huh this person I didn’t like is actually cool” moments but nEVER have I once sucked in a breath, forgot how to blink, rushed in my words OR stared at said person like I’d like for them to be my lover. Three points to Gayfindor.
“Is your son REALLY the reason you don’t date?” This line and the dialogue that follows makes absolutely no sense from the non-queer glass. Alright he asks bc he wants to know why two girls practically launched themselves at him and he declined (such a kind offer lmao) but… why are you standing so close? Why do you bump shoulders with him as you walk? Most importantly, what the FUCK does Eddie’s smirk mean after “they’re not my type either… not anymore.” Idk about you guys but when I’m not on the market I’m actually not in it 😀 and I don’t go around looking at my best friend like I’d consider fucking her (I’m actually kinda yikes about that thought bc she’s like my sister). Bottom line is: if you’re willing to fuck your best friend, there’s attraction. That scenes oozes attraction and I’d be willing to white glove challenge a body language reader.
The Tsunami. YES okay, there are far many moments in between but I also need to make this a somewhat readable list so here we go. We’re gonna pretend for a hot second Buck wants to save his best friend’s son, and not the child that he considers his own bc I’m tired. Let’s skip to the far end of this (be GrAtEfuL I’m skipping the whole sacrifice that this episode entailed. Buck was willing to die, to never sit down again if it meant looking for Chris [& the utter fear he has to face Eddie]. It’s a lot). Now, I do not OWN a child (thank god) but if I did, I wouldn’t be particularly comfortable with a simple friend from work taking care of them. They could be my very best friend from work and I’d still feel a little icky -at least nervous- about it. Yet Eddie not only takes Christopher back A F T E R the tsunami (Chris could’ve died and Eddie is nothing short of apprehensive), but he says ‘there’s no one I trust with my son more than you’. Um. Not his wife. Not his family (CHRIS’ family), not Abuela, not Tia Pepa. Buck. Who he… just met? Surely it isn’t bc he’s uncle buck… I don’t believe even Maddie has said that to Buck, where he’s actually, yknow, UNCLE BUCK. Co-parenting is not something done between a parent and a friend, and I know this shit bc my mom raised me with a few of her friends and guys,,, she never said that to any of them. Also Chris is practically never seen with anyone else from the 188firefam alone.
The Kitchen Scene™️. I have gone on rants about this before but truth be told THIS is the scene that conveys the MOST canonically sexual tension between them. We can joke about it all y’all want but this scene is unhinged. I don’t think Oliver and Ryan were aware that they should’ve been friends in this scene. The way the conversation shifts from apologetic sad puppy eyes to “you’re throwing your punches at the wrong guy” to I CAN TAKE YOU (???) you can what? “Oh you think?” “Oh I know” HELLO? Pls don’t even get me started on how Buck approaches Eddie, the way he’s puffy-chested, his hand on his belt, eyeing him up and down, nearly biting his lip, cocky grin,,,,, explain to me in hetero. I’m waiting😐 guys c’mon exPLAIN IT TO ME IN HETERO. The way Eddie glances to the side bc where’s Chris? And h o w he sips his beer right after, smirking, tiLTING His head. I’m sorry this is not straight in any way. I’m sorry you’re gonna have to accept this.
Clipboard Buck. Alright u got me!!! This one’s a lil silly, but so is my life, so it’s fair game. Clipboard Buck is annoying as fuck, he’s so fucking annoying. The entire firefam picks up on this, no one wants to be around,,,, except Eddie. You could argue that it’s bc he likes him as a friend and he’s just indulging …. 👁️👄👁️ sure but he also hides from Interim Captain Han soooo anyway what’s fun about this is how willing Eddie is to comply with everything he says. He’s basically twirling his hair, kicking his feet, smiling & blushing and “check!” 🧍🏽‍♀️ buck is kinky (that is canon e.g the ring cutter) and he gets high on authority and Eddie does backflips to meet his kinks. Exhibit 5 complete.
The Lawsuit Arc acka the first divorce era😔✊🏼. This one makes me rage a little bit because I get really upset at Buck for acting recklessly. Like baby let yourself HEAL. Anyway,,,, onto what brings us here 🥷🏼. It’s canon that the entire team is mad at Buck, they don’t really wanna bump into him, can’t really speak to him,,, but Eddie? Eddie’s filled with wrath. I cannot stress enough the fact that he uses Chris as an excuse “do you even know how much he misses you? how could you! you’re not here”. The way he expresses himself, and we’re choosing to ignore the fact that he HIMSELF misses Buck,, that’s how you talk to someone who has a responsibility with the child, not the fun coworker that randomly shows up @ your house with pizza every once in a while. “I couldn’t even call you to bail me out of jail”. He’s so u p s e t that for the first time they know each other he can’t rely on Buck when he’s hurting and in danger. And pls for the love of Jesus Christ my lord & savior don’t tell me that it’s a 118 thing bc he calls Ronda Rousey to come pick him up 🎅🏻 that grocery store scene is.. interesting.
Eddie Underground. Alright we’re getting serious now guys,,, might as well put on your thinking caps on this one. We all know the story, this isn’t a latest ep recap soooo The wAY Buck’s the ONLY ONE who desperately calls Eddie’s name when he’s fallen underground, amidst the heavy rain and dirt. Listen to me: he starts digging with his hands. With his bare hands I tell you!!!! 😩 Bobby has to physically pull him back as he cries on his lap. Buck is a smart man, he wouldn’t do something that’s completely illogic, he knows he can’t dig him out but he’s so desperate. His voice breaks, he can’t breathe, he becomes impulsive, reckless, impatient. Do I need to remind y’all the reason he wasn’t the one getting strapped to go underground??? “You’re not going down there. So we can have two cut off ropes?” Everyone knows he’s willing to sacrifice his integrity for Eddie bc his life doesn’t make sense without him. “We’ll get him back for you”
The Shooting + “I’ve made u my son’s dad lol”. When Eddie gets shot the world freezes for Buck. He’s left standing there, staring as Eddie’s blood splatters on him. He has to be tackled down. Even then, he’s unable to move, to breathe. He just looks as he bleeds out, and theN he snaps back into reality, bracing himself to go under the truck (foregoing his own trauma - I’ve said this before) and preparing for the amount of strength it’s gonna take to pull him under it. He screams at him to hold on, and later when he manages to pull him inside the truck he tells him he needs him to hang on. He rips his uniform open, he cries and screams,,, then Eddie wakes up, and he asks BUCK if HES okay. Bc he saw blood :( also as @butraura pointed out, he can’t die if Buck’s dying bc what about Chris? He only lets himself drift off when he knows Buck’s okay. Then we got The Will Reveal™️ also so unhinged. “You knew I wouldn’t turn it down” right what is this guys??? That was a year ago. He added him to his will A yEaR aGo. Idk about y’all but I haven’t added my friends to my will😀 also Buck’s the one who tells Chris ??? (I’m being very brief on this subject). Also “Because, Evan” shut up🧎🏽‍♀️
& 10. The Lightning Strike + “She sees me”. I’m doing these together bc I haven’t watched this episodes yet but I’m an addict so I’ve spoiled myself to the brim. The way Eddie screams Buck’s name, the way he saves him, “do more” h e l l o ?? The absolute PAIN in Eddie’s eyes, “you died Buck” “3 minutes and 17 seconds”, “his humor hasn’t changed” & the fact that he listens to Buck on his super genius math theory. And then Buck goes and says “I feel like Natalia sees me” ok. I mean my feelings mean nothing but Eddie’s face ??? That’s a man that knows he’s waited too long.
I rest my case. I’m missing a lot of scenes (like a lot omg Abby comes back, Buck under the Truck, Buck vomiting blood, the Taylor Arc) & y’all can argue in the comments about them, or add shit or try to dismantle mine, honestly the floor is yours idc wHat u do, just know you won’t convince me otherwise 🤸🏽these two are in love & that’s pretty much that on THAT. PERIOD.

congrats on 1k rae!! you deserve it and more <3
if you have any ideas you wanna write but don't feel like writing a whole fic for it, pls share a lil buddie drabble!! i'd love to read it
Hi Nolan! Thank you so much bestie, this is just a little silly thing, I hope you like it!.
-
When Eddie agreed to come with Buck to the jewelry store to pick up Maddie’s and Chim’s wedding bands, he never imagined things would end up like this, with Buck on one knee and asking him to spend the rest of their lives together.
They weren’t even dating. They were something more than just best friends, sure, but Eddie never thought that they would just skip a whole section of their relationship and go straight to fiances.
Two hours ago he couldn’t have imagined any of this happening.
Two hours ago when they walked into the store Eddie was daydreaming about the day he and Buck would come in to get their own rings.
He had smiled at Buck when he asked the person behind the counter for the order they were picking up, and then started to look at the display.
When Bella, the girl behind the counter, came back she grinned at Eddie and said, “Looks like someone might pop the question soon,” Eddie blushed at her words and shook his head.
But Buck stopped in his tracks and pointed to a ring, “Can I see that one?”
Bella smirked and told him that she’d gladly would.
“Eds,” Buck said a little breathless, “It’s perfect.”
Eddie didn’t quite understand what he meant until he saw the ring. It was literally perfect for both of them, it had three stones - Eddie couldn’t really tell you what they were called but one was a dark brown almost black, and the other two a soft blue - casted on a silver band. Eddie was right away reminded of their little family unit, both of them and Chris.
“Buck,” Eddie whispered, his words getting stuck on his throat, “We can’t, we haven’t even been on a single date.”
“So? I already know you’re the one for me Eds? So why not? You’re my best friend, we’ve already formed a life together, there’s no one else in the world I’d let have my back, so what do you say Edmundo Diaz, would you marry me?”
Yeah, Eddie could’ve never imagined that this was how it was going to go down, but when that “Yes,” left his mouth he knew it was the most amazing thing to happen to him.

6 x 01 drabble based off of this spoiler, pre Buck/Eddie. Happy last week of hiatus, y'all!
If Buck was being pragmatic, it would make sense to go to anyone else.
Buck knows this. Buck knows there are spare bedrooms at Hen and Karen's house and in the Grant-Nash household. He can probably move into Maddie's one bedroom she doesn't see much of these days, practically back to living with Chimney again. Albert owes him a couch to sleep on. Ravi has a one bedroom that's technically a one and a half bedroom with an office that he said Buck is welcome to.
"I can't thank you enough. The next time you need a couch to crash on, I'm there for you." Buck says, passing one of his bulging duffel bags to Eddie.
"Buck, you don't even have a couch," Chris says without glancing up from his homework. At least, Buck thinks it's his homework because his math in his day didn't look nearly as complicated as the triangles Chris is glued to.
Eddie snorts. "He's got a point," he says, walking away from the couch, which is where Buck thought they were heading. "I told you your fancy apartment would one day give you hell."
"I still don't get how there was that much flooding from one thunderstorm," Buck shakes his head. "It's not even supposed to rain that much in California."
"Climate change," Christopher chimes in, now drawing his own complicated triangle on the paper in front of him. Buck's heart leaps at the thought that he'll get to see this every day for a while now, until he finds another place.
"Yeah, thanks bud," Buck laughs. The strap of his duffel digs sharply into his shoulder, and it's then that Buck realizes Eddie's not in the room with them.
"Where did your dad go?" Buck wonders aloud and Chris points in the direction of Eddie's bedroom.
Buck murmurs a quick "Be right back" and heads towards the back of the house. The door is wide open and Buck still marvels at how indistinguishable it looks from a few months ago, teeming with plants and framed pictures, sunlight and life. Eddie's at his closet, holding a stack of neatly folded t-shirts.
"What are you doing?" Buck asks, walking in.
Eddie glances at him. "Making room for your stuff," he says. "We might have to put some of your hoodies in the linen closet for now but there's room for your shirts and pants and stuff. I think we can do a quick run to Ikea tomorrow and get a few more shelves for this closet."
"Um," Buck says, his mind refusing to let him catch up to what he's seeing. Eddie bends down to unzip one of Buck's bags and Buck watches bemusedly as he grabs a stack of pants.
"What are you doing?" Buck repeats. Eddie pauses.
"You okay, Buck?" Eddie asks. "Did you want to do the unpacking? I thought I'd help since you complained enough about the packing—"
"I thought I'd just live out of the bag," Buck blurts out. Eddie raises his eyebrows.
"Why?" he asks simply, and then, "I'm putting your pants on the top so I don't accidentally wear them."
"I don't think it would be the same fit," Buck says without thought, and it doesn't help that Eddie chooses that moment to lean up and put said pants away, drawing Buck's attention to the curve of his ass.
When Eddie looks back, there's a shadow of something in his eyes that Buck's been noticing a lot lately.
"No," Eddie says slowly. "I guess not." Eddie bends down again, this time grabbing a stack of LAFD shirts. "Your shirts though," he says casually, "those should fit me perfectly now, I think."
Buck pretends he's not staring blatantly at Eddie's arms as he attempts to pick his brain off of the floor. "Wait," he says slowly. "It's going to be a hassle coming to your room to get dressed every morning. I really think I can just shove these bags under the couch."
"You'll be in here, so why do your clothes need to be out there?" Eddie asks, frowning, like Buck's the one being ridiculous here.
"In here?" Buck asks. "In here where?"
"I thought you could take the right side of the bed like we did during quarantine, I already changed the sheets and everything and gave you a second pillow for your knee."
"For my knee," Buck echoes, because after more than a year Eddie still remembers that Buck's leg bothers him unless his knee is elevated just a little.
"Why do you look like that?" Eddie inquires. "Is something wrong?"
"I thought I was going to be on the couch," Buck says quickly. "I don't want to put you out of your bed, Eddie."
"Well, I'll still be in it," Eddie says with a small smile. Buck flushes, and he swears Eddie's eyes flicker to his reddened neck. "Besides, it won't be comfortable sleeping there every night, not when there's a large bed here." Eddie hesitates, "If you're fine with that, of course."
"We'll wake each other up when we have different shifts," Buck reminds him instead of answering. Eddie probably heard it in the thundering of Buck's heart anyway.
"We hardly have any of those anyway," Eddie responds.
Buck pauses. "I snore," he says. "You know that."
Eddie smiles. "I do know that."
He doesn't continue, and Buck lets the weight of acceptance and want wash over him. They wouldn't need to do this if Buck moved into anyone else's house. If Buck was being pragmatic, he'd remember that. But no one else's house has an Eddie and a Christopher, and if Buck lets himself admit it, Eddie isn't being very pragmatic either.
Buck lets out a disbelieving laugh. "I'm fine with that," he replies, and he can almost see the relief spread through Eddie's limbs.
"Good," Eddie says simply.
"Good," Buck echoes. "Good."

@actualalligator and I were talking about trips to the aquarium this morning and then this little moment stuck in my head so I wrote it in like 10 minutes while on the elliptical at the gym because I needed something soft and comforting today to combat the feels in my mind.
Enjoy.
The fingers slotted between his loosen slowly until they’re slipping away and then the hand is disappearing completely.
Eddie doesn’t think much of it as his eyes follow the clown fish darting around in the water on the other side of the glass he’s peering through. Bubbles float up from its tail and mouth, creating targets for the other fellow clown fish.
The simple sight makes Eddie smile; he’s getting better at enjoying these simple moments, letting himself smile and think it’s nice.
He turns his head, ready to share the thought with his boyfriend, only to discover him no longer at his side.
Eddie sighs, sends the clown fish one last look before spinning on his heel and searching the dimly lit room for his boyfriend.
It isn’t difficult, not when they’re the tallest people here by a solid few feet, but Eddie thinks the joy on Buck’s face outshines every other child at the aquarium with them.
Crossing the room to Buck’s side, Eddie pokes his boyfriend in the ribs, starting Buck from his intense study of the coral he’s stopped in front of. “Thought I told you to not wander off again.”
Buck smiles sheepishly, “Sorry, babe.”
Eddie shakes his head and steps back and behind Buck, tugging at the zipper of the backpack Buck is wearing. He reaches into the opening he’s created and rummages around until he finds what it is he’s looking for.
After closing the zipper once more, Eddie unravels the leash attachment they had purchased when they had bought the backpack and clips it quickly onto the bag. He wraps the other end around his hand and rejoins Buck at his side.
His boyfriend glances down, and upon noticing the leash, sighs, “Really?”
“I warned you.” Eddie hums nonchalantly as he takes his turn studying the coral.
It only takes two minutes before Eddie feels the leash go taught in his hand, Buck having lost interest and moved on already. But Eddie isn’t don’t taking in the different forms of the coral and keeps his stance and grip firm.
Buck whines softly before slinking back up to Eddie’s side, dropping his forehead down onto Eddie’s shoulder. “Babe.”
“I’m not done.” Eddie replies, “And you weren’t listening when I said to stay holding my hand.”
“M’sorry.”
“I know, baby.” Eddie turns his head enough to brush a kiss to Buck’s chin, “I’m almost done and then we’ll go see the turtles, okay?”
“Okay.” Buck mumbles, although it’s maybe thirty seconds before he’s shifting uneasily on his feet, his mind no doubt racing and running around in endless circles. But he stays quiet, allowing Eddie to have his moment of pleasure.
“Thank you.” Eddie says when he finally steps away from the display, giving Buck a kiss before leading him towards the door that would take them outside to the turtle exhibit.
“Can we take the leash off now?” Buck asks, the two of them squinting at the sudden sunlight.
“Nope.” Eddie answers easily, “Because you’ll wander off again and I want to enjoy the aquarium with my boyfriend.”
And since Buck can’t really say anything against that, he stays quiet, pouting lightly. Eddie’s not worried though because as soon as they enter the area with turtles, that beautiful smile is back on his face and Buck is pulling Eddie along by the leash to get closer.
When they finish at the aquarium, Eddie takes Buck through the gift shop and tells him he can pick any single item he wants.
Buck lights up and immediately heads for the wall of stuffed animals, closely inspecting all of the options.
Eddie isn’t surprised when Buck comes back carefully holding the large turtle that is offered, smiling shyly like Eddie is going to say no.
“That the one, then?”
“Yes, please.” Buck nods.
“Perfect choice, baby.” Eddie says with a kiss before heading to pay for it.
His boyfriend deserved it for being so good anyways.

Another random drabble that's going nowhere lol
The house is mostly dark when Buck pulls up, only the living room window shining with light.  He knows it’s way past Chistopher’s bedtime, and he’d expected Eddie to be sleeping too at this hour.  He’s been crashing at the Diaz house since he broke it off with Taylor a month ago, and somehow they’d all seamlessly slid into a comforting routine. “Honey, I’m home,” he calls quietly as he locks up and drops his bag by the door. A hand lazily waves from the couch so he kicks off his shoes at the door and pads over to see what Eddie is up to.  He grabs his hand and shakes it a little as he leans over the back of the couch, where can’t help  the no doubt unbearably fond smile that crosses his face. Eddie is wrapped up like a burrito in Chris’ Animal Crossing blanket, looking cozy and adorably sleepy. Eddie wiggles his way into a sitting position and tugs on Buck’s hand, pulling him close until their mouths are just inches apart. “Hi,” he murmurs and leans forward just enough to brush his lips against Buck’s. Buck slides on hand behind the other man’s neck to hold him in place as he nips gently at his lips before deepening the kiss.  “Well hello, he whispers as he pulls back.  “So, we’re doing this now huh?” “Buck,” Eddie sighs, drawing his fingers softly down Buck’s cheek.  “Yeah, yeah we’re doing this.  We can have this now, right?” Buck smiles as he rounds the couch and sits behind the brunet, pulling him back to lay against his chest. “Oh we can definitely have this.  We’re gonna own this.,” he brushes a kiss to Eddie’s temple and sighs as they get comfortable and drift off to sleep.

“Just let me look at you for a bit” buddie yearning prompt 👀
season 6 spec/spoilers/wishful thinking lies ahead!
I don't want to fall to pieces / I just want to sit and stare at you / I don't want to talk about it / and I don't want a conversation / I just want to cry in front of you / I don't want to talk about it / 'cause I'm in love with you -Fall to Pieces - Avril Lavigne
The air in the small hospital room was cold. Eddie had goosebumps up and down his arms but he didn't mind it; Buck was wearing his jacket over his hospital gown. He was sitting sideways on the bed, socked feet on the floor, and staring at the doorway as though it was going to make Hen appear any faster.
"We could always just break you out of here dressed like that," Eddie said into the silence of the room. Buck looked at him incredulously, then huffed a small laugh. "Eddie, my ass is hanging out of this dress."
"You don't have an ass," he said automatically, then pursed his lips because why the fuck would he say that?
Buck put a hand to his chest (the one that didn't currently have an IV in it) and widened his eyes. "That is the rudest thing you've ever said to me. And now, in my time of need."
Eddie rolled his eyes. "What does having an ass have to do with it?"
"They said I bruised my tailbone," Buck told him, dead serious.
Eddie snorted. "They didn't mention that one to me."
They stared at each other for a moment, then Buck broke and smiled. "No, I'm fucking with you. Hit the side, remember?"
And yeah, Eddie fucking remembered. "I'd rather not remember it, thanks."
"It really isn't as bad as it looks," Buck said softly, sensing the tension that had suddenly taken over Eddie's body.
"You got hit by a car, Buck," Eddie said quietly, crossing his arms over his chest. "I watched you get hit by a car."
Buck didn't say anything, just looked back toward the door. Eddie sighed. Yet another thing to not talk about.
It wasn't long before Hen showed up with clothes for Buck to change into, and he was discharged pretty quickly with orders to take it easy for the next week or so, and to keep the cut on his cheek clean.
They didn't discuss it, but everyone knew Buck was going home with Eddie. They stopped in to another nearby room to say goodbye to Chimney and Maddie - Chimney had a concussion and was a bit more banged up than Buck, so he had to stay overnight for observation - and then they made their way to the parking lot. Eddie ignored the slight limp in Buck's step; Buck ignored the way Eddie's eyes kept glancing his way, as though checking he was really there. They found the truck where Hen said it would be and climbed in.
"I'll bring you to the station to get your Jeep once you're okay to drive."
"So, tomorrow?"
"You're not driving tomorrow."
"The doctor didn't say anything about not driving -"
"Buck, you're going to be so sore tomorrow, are you kidding me? You're not going to want to drive. And I've got the next 72 hours off -"
"What? Why?"
If Eddie hadn't been already driving he would've looked at Buck incredulously; as it was, he just dramatically rolled his eyes. "I'm not leaving you by yourself."
"I'm not even - I didn't break anything. I have a single laceration that needed stitches and I'm going to be bruised up, but that doesn't mean I can't take care of myself."
Eddie bit his lip, swallowing the words he wanted to say. "I'm not saying you can't. The time off is for me just as much as it is for you."
"What - you didn't get hurt, did you? You weren't -"
"No, I didn't get hurt," Eddie interrupted him. He tried to keep his voice level as he repeated himself. "But the time off is for me just as much as it is for you."
"What does that mean?" Buck's voice was cautious, and Eddie hated it.
"It means I need some time off, okay?"
Buck huffed but didn't say anything else, leaning back against the headrest until they arrived at Eddie's house.
They didn't talk as they got out of the truck, though Eddie noticed Buck wincing a few times as they made their way to the front door. He chose not to comment on it, unlocking the door and letting Buck inside first.
"You take the bed, I'll take the couch," Eddie said, dropping his keys in the bowl by the door and taking his shoes off. He started making his way to the bedroom to grab something to change into, but he stopped halfway down the hall when he realized Buck wasn't behind him. He turned around, finding him situating himself on the couch in the living room. "Buck, no -"
"I'm not going to be able to sleep anytime soon," he said, grabbing the remote and turning the TV on. "I'm not going to lay in the dark for hours while you're out here sleeping on the couch. Just go to bed, I'm fine."
Eddie stared at him. He took in the bandage on his cheek, the pale complexion that hadn't quite returned to normal yet, the stiff way he was holding himself.
"I'm not going to be able to sleep, either," Eddie said finally. "So I'll stay out here, too."
Buck nodded but didn't take his eyes off the TV where he was scrolling through Netflix. Eddie sighed and went to his room to change.
It was only about half an hour later before Eddie broke. Buck was still sitting up, his back straight against the back of the couch, his leg stretched out in front of him with his heel on the floor.
"Buck, you can't possibly be comfortable like that."
Buck looked over at him, surprise in his eyes. "I'm fine, Eddie."
"No," Eddie said, standing and going to the bedroom, grabbing all four pillows from his bed. He brought them back and looked at Buck like he was a puzzle and the pillows were his missing pieces. He handed Buck the first pillow. "Rest your leg on this one. Sit sideways and I'll put one behind your back, too."
Buck complied, though he grumbled a bit as Eddie fluffed the pillows to make sure the little nest was as comfortable as possible.
"Better?"
Buck sighed but nodded. "Yes, it's better. Thank you."
"You're welcome," Eddie said, taking the seat by Buck's feet. He turned to look at the other man and couldn't help but drink him in. He looked exhausted and Eddie hated it, but at least he was alive. He could still see blonde hair and blue eyes and pink birthmark, he could still see his nose and lips and neck and steadily rising and falling chest. It was hard to look away, like the moment he did Buck was going to disappear. He knew it wasn't rational; the proof that Buck was alive was right in front of him, and that wasn't going to change just because he watched the TV, but he still couldn't find it in him to draw his eyes away.
"Why are you staring at me?"
Eddie sighed. He let his body turn to face Buck, resting his cheek on the back of the couch.
"Do I really look that bad?" Buck asked, halfway joking, when Eddie didn't say anything.
Eddie started to laugh, but it quickly devolved into a sob, and he wiped at his face as sudden tears began to fall. Buck look alarmed and started to sit up, and Eddie held his hands up.
"No, don't move," he said through his tears, then sniffled. He wiped his cheeks again; the tears seemed to stop as quickly as they came, and he let his head fall into his hands. "Sorry. I - sorry."
"Don't apologize," Buck said. Eddie could hear the confusion in his voice. "I just don't really understand what's happening right now."
Eddie lifted his head to stare at Buck again. Incredulously, he said, "Buck, you were hit by a car."
Buck shook his head like that didn't mean anything. "So you keep reminding me. But I'm fine."
"You know," Eddie said after a few moments of quiet, "I didn't actually see it happen, back then. I didn't actually see her get hit by the car. But I - I sat in the back of the ambulance with her."
Buck's eyes widened and he somehow got even paler as realization washed over him.
"I watched her die, Buck. She got hit by a car, and I watched her die. And that was - that was hard. That was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. But watching you get hit by that car tonight? Not knowing if you were dying, or already dead? That was fucking - that was worse than hard, okay? And I know that you're okay, relatively speaking, but that doesn't change the fact that there was a solid few minutes that I thought you were dead or dying. There were a few minutes that I thought I was going to have to sit and watch you die, too."
"Eddie, I'm - I'm sorry," Buck's voice was so quiet that Eddie hardly heard it.
He shook his head. "You don't need to be sorry. You need to just… Just let me look at you for a bit. Because I need that right now, okay? I'm sorry, but I need that right now."
"Okay," Buck whispered, nodding his head. He held his hands out. "Come here."
Eddie slowly and carefully moved closer, getting off the couch and onto his knees on the floor until he was next to Buck's face. He reached out hesitantly, and when Buck didn't move away he cupped Buck's uninjured cheek. Buck smiled softly at him, and Eddie let out a heavy sigh.
"You know I've watched you almost die twice," Buck said, breaking the silence between them. Eddie bit his lip. "So I - I understand. You're right, it's worse than hard."
"But I'm okay," Eddie whispered. "And you're okay. We're okay."
Without thinking, he leaned forward, only stopping when their foreheads were pressed together. He heard Buck's breath hitch and watched as the blue eyes in front of him closed. He kept his own open, still scared to look away. They sat like that, breathing each other in and not saying anything, until Eddie's knees began to ache from sitting on the floor. He moved back, rocking back until he was on his feet.
"I think I'm ready to go to bed," Buck said, slowly opening his eyes and looking up at Eddie. "But you shouldn't take the couch. We can share."
Eddie inhaled sharply at the thought of sharing his bed with Buck, but nodded anyway. He held out a hand to help Buck up, and his heart raced when Buck didn't drop it as they made their way down the hall. Once they reached the bedroom Buck let go and Eddie instantly wanted to reach back.
"We forgot the pillows," Buck said with a little laugh, pointing at the bed.
"Right," Eddie said, shaking his head at himself. He'd been too distracted by Buck's hand in his. "I'll go grab them."
When he returned, Buck was already sitting on the bed, waiting. Eddie passed him two pillows and put the other two where his own head would rest. Trying not to think too hard about it, he climbed into bed and got under the covers as Buck did the same. When they finally relaxed, there was only a bit of space between them, Buck's hand lying palm-up between their chests. Eddie met Buck's eyes in the dark, and the blue held a warmth that Eddie was convinced existed only for him and Christopher.
"Buck," Eddie whispered, unsure of what to say next. Buck's eyes glanced down at his own hand and Eddie got the message; he brought his own shaking hand up and pressed their palms together, letting his fingers fall between Buck's. He watched Buck's Adam's apple as he swallowed, and wished he could lean forward and press his lips to that spot on his neck. He didn't; instead he just laid there, staring.
"Goodnight, Eddie," Buck murmured, before closing his own fingers around Eddie's hand and shutting his eyes.
"Night, Buck." He closed his own eyes, focused on the warmth of Buck's hand in his, and fell asleep.

OMG they're so cute!!!!!!!!!!!!! Okay, so a special response for you. I greatly appreciate you letting me borrow Cal for this (he does have the best ideas after all!) If anyone has no idea what this is in reference to, then you need to go read Spotty's fic Good Knight Sweet Prince
come trick or treat!!
“Hey, Eds, look at this.”
Buck shoves his phone at Eddie presumably to show him whatever recent meme he found interesting.
Eddie takes it from him, minutely adjusting the distance he’s holding it from his face. Only because the light is dim and not because he ‘probably needs bifocals’ thank you very much. On the screen is something called a great eared nightjar. A bird that supposedly looks like a small dragon. And it does for the most part.
“Have you shown me this before?” Buck scrunches his nose like he’s trying to work something out. And forgive Eddie, he finds it adorable as hell because, well, everything his boyfriend does is adorable as hell.
“Uh, no? Not that I remember anyway.”
“Huh.” Buck takes the phone back and chews on his bottom lip.
“They just look so… familiar. Like I’ve seen something like it before.”
He shakes his head and continues scrolling mindlessly through instagram. “Probably just a weird dream I had or something.”
A few days pass, and there’s no more talk about strange birds that look like mythical creatures. Naturally, Eddie doesn’t think about it anymore. At least not until Buck wakes up, hyperventilating in the darkness of their bedroom, desperately trying to inhale.
“Hey! Buck! Look at me!” Eddie grabs him by the shoulders, meeting his gaze so he can get Buck to follow his breaths.
Eddie tries to put up a calm front, to guide Buck through the practiced inhale and exhale they’ve both had to use more than Eddie would like to admit.
“There you are.” Eddie cradles Buck’s face in his palms, noting his breathing has become less ragged but the sparkling blue in his eyes is still dark and full of something like terror. “Shhhh. Buck, I’m here. It’s okay, baby.”
“E-Eddie. I remember. All of it.”
“Remember what, sweetheart?” Eddie asks cautiously. He honestly has no idea where this is going or what could have prompted it.
“The other day, I was showing you that nightjar-”
“The tiny dragon bird thing?”
“Yeah! Exactly. And I said it looked familiar?”
Eddie nods slowly, still not sure what to make of it.
“I was dreaming — at least I thought I was — and it all came back. Eddie, I wasn’t dreaming. They were memories. The reason it looked so familiar is because the little brownish one? It looks like Cal.”
Cal??? Who the fuck is that? Eddie racks his brain but can’t for the life of him think of anyone named Cal. Especially one that resembles a dragon.
“Cal? I’m not- I’m not quite sure I follow you, Buck.”
“Right. Because you don’t remember. Yet.” As if that should make perfect sense.
Buck’s hands are gesticulating wildly while he starts to tell Eddie about — and I know this sounds crazy, Eds but you gotta believe me — the two of them in another life. That information alone is insane enough before Buck gets going about how he was a prince and Eddie was a knight and there was a whole ass dragon named Calenth. Who could talk. At least to those who could understand.
The whole thing should be positively absurd. And it is, it definitely is. What’s even more absurd is the sudden sense of familiarity tickling at the edges of Eddie’s memory. Like there’s something he should remember but can’t.
“You don’t remember any of it?” And, christ, Buck’s voice warbles ever so slightly, breaking Eddie's heart.
It doesn’t seem fair to pretend that Eddie does recall any details, so he keeps the niggling sensation to himself.
“I’m sorry, Buck. I wish I did — if there’s really anything to remember — but I don’t.”
“If there’s really-” Buck cuts himself off and Eddie realizes his mistake. Buck thinks Eddie doesn’t believe him. “Yeah, I can see where that’s all a little out there, but-” Buck licks his lips and throws off the covers. “I, uh, I think I’m gonna go to my loft tonight.”
Fuck.
“Can’t we talk about this?” Eddie pleads as Buck gets dressed, grabs his work duffel and retreats to the front door. "It's 3 am!"
“Eds, we’re fine. Promise. I just need to sort all this out, y’know? It’s- a lot.”
“Yeah, I get it. Text me when you get there?” Because what else is he supposed to say?
“I will. Love you.” Buck leans in for a gentle kiss.
“Love you, too,” Eddie murmurs against his lips, like it isn’t killing him to watch Buck leave in the middle of the night over something Eddie can’t begin to comprehend.
*
Buck is thankful for having the next two days off work. It gives him time to adjust to the influx of memories that continue to flood in. Eddie arriving, Buck hating him – and then falling in love with him – Eddie leaving again, the tournaments and stolen kisses, Buck’s birthday.
How is it that he remembers but not Eddie? It’s all clear as day in his mind, like it just happened.
During their time off he still texts with Eddie, reassures him they’re okay. He even makes reservations at their favorite restaurant and arranges for Carla to watch Christopher on Tuesday night.
There’s one more thing weighing on him before their next shift. How to prove to Eddie that it’s all real. That Buck hasn’t lost his mind. He falls asleep fully dressed, with an open browser window full of endless entries on helping someone restore their memories.
*
Near the end of an exhausting twenty-four, Eddie can only assume Buck is trying to make him remember without actually saying that’s what he’s doing. First is the blue ribbon. Then a dragon figurine. And the knight figurine. A photoshopped picture of Eddie with a beard. All casually left in Eddie’s locker or at his seat at the table in the loft. It takes everything in him to bite his tongue and tell Buck it’s not working. And he’s just preparing himself to have that conversation when Buck catches him by the gym.
“Here!” Buck smiles, bright and bubbly while he hands a plastic play sword to Eddie.
Eddie takes it, letting out a weary, exasperated sigh. “Buck.”
“I know, I know. Just- try? Please?”
How is Eddie supposed to refuse? And that’s how, in the place where they had their first ever blow up, they end up surrounded by Hen, Chim, Bobby and few others from A shift while they have a sparring session. With toy weapons.
Despite how ridiculous the whole thing is, Eddie can’t help but notice how right the sword feels in his hand. The more they swing at each other, the moves becoming more intricate, it’s as if his body leads him in a dance of thrusting and parrying and dodging. He gets lost in the motion and swears he can smell dirt and grass. That he can feel the sun beating overhead, beads of sweat trailing down the back of his neck, even though it’s well past sunset.
Finally he sees it. A weakness in Buck’s stance. He doesn’t know how he knows that, but he does. Eddie lunges forward, causing Buck to overcompensate and fall to the mats where Eddie instinctively aims his sword at Buck’s throat.
Buck simply grins up at him, not seeming to care that he lost.
“You remembered.”

also, in my mind eddie breaks up with marisol and then he calls buck, bc ofc he does!!! duh!!!! and they go go-karting together.
and the whole time buck is being so silly and flirty, crashing his kart against eddie's playfully and teasingly all the time, showing off, being so annoying and unbearable for everyone else at the go-karting place except for eddie, who has the biggest heart eyes that humanity has ever seen and his cheeks are so rosy and flushed and his smile is so big that his eyes crinkle in the corner and all of his teeth are showing.
and then when they take their helmets off, their hair is a mess and they're a lil sweaty abut they're giggling and brushing shoulders, leaning against each other and all around acting like little kids who are also in love. and this is the vision i have and its canon IN MY HEART now. bye.

What if post shooting and post telling Buck about the will Eddie and Buck got married so Buck could do step parent adoption with Chris to avoid any issues IF Eddie died.
It's Buck's idea because he really doesn't like the idea of having to go to court and fight Eddie's family and Eddie just takes it as another sign that Buck is the perfect person to take care of Chris if the worst happens.
So they get married and Buck legally adopts Chris, but nothing else changes.
Eddie is still with Ana and he still panics when he thinks about a future with her. Buck still calls him out on not loving her and Eddie still breaks up with her.
And Buck is still with Taylor and they still have their drama and move in together and breakup when they realize neither of them is going to change.
Eddie still leaves the 118, the only difference is that Buck isn't worried about losing Eddie anymore because they're legally bound, not because they're married because Buck doesn't really think about that, but because of Chris.
But then Eddie is back at the 118 and they're doing their little flirty dance with each other and they act like a family and no one questions it because that's just Buck and Eddie.
When Buck is struck by lightening and dies it's Eddie who the hospital goes to about his care because Eddie is his next of kin and when they did the adoption paperwork they also changed their power of attorney to each other because it just made sense.
No one at the 118 questions it, but the Buckley parents do. Maddie just explains to them that Eddie and Buck are family to each other and leaves it at that, even though the Buckley's are still clearly confused.
But then they're both dating people they like and at a barbecue Natalia jokes about how she almost broke up with Buck when she thought he was about to be a dad and that's when it comes out that actually Buck does have a kid because Chris is legally his and then everyone has a meltdown while Buck and Eddie are just like “why is this weird??”
Cue them realizing that it really isn't normal to marry your best friend so he can legally adopt your kid and that maybe there are some other feelings involved.

hi babe! hope you're having a wonderful day/night! 💗 can i request doing something silly to cheer them up from the prompt list? if you haven't done it yet. thank you 💗
Hi Babes!! Special Delivery just for you ❤️ I hope you are also having a wonderful day/night xx
"Eddie. Eddieeee." Buck whines and Eddie keeps glaring resolutely at the wall.
"Baby." Buck sings and pokes him in the cheek. For a brief moment he considers upping the pettiness and snapping round to bite the end of Buck's finger.
"Go away, Buck. I'm mad at you."
"No you're not," Buck chuckles, "you're just sulking because I ate the last piece of pizza."
Eddie swings his head around to glare daggers directly into Buck's eyes. "It was my piece! You already had all of your half of the pizza."
"You said you were full!" Buck states indignantly.
"You still could have asked first." Eddie stares down at his hands, twisting his ring around his finger absently.
Suddenly he can feel Buck's breath across the bridge of his nose. "Eds, look at me, please."
Eddie risks a glance up and finds Buck less than an inch in front of his face–their noses almost brushing–and Buck has his tongue poking out one side of his mouth and his eyes are crossed in one of the most absurd expressions Eddie has ever seen cross his husband's face–and Buck makes a lot of weird faces. He barely suppresses the grin tugging at the corners of his mouth and then Buck's face shifts again. He blows his cheeks out like a puffer fish and starts to repetitively roll his eyes. A snigger escapes Eddie and Buck's face splits into a grin.
Eddie reaches up and squishes Buck's cheeks together until he is pouting like a fish again. "You're so dumb. You're lucky I love you."
Buck opens his mouth like he's about to say something but Eddie kisses him instead.
"I love you, too. I'm sorry." Buck says when Eddie pulls away. Then he sits back straight again. "Whooh, I'm kinda dizzy."
"Idiot." They're both still smiling as Eddie kisses him again.
Send me a prompt and I'll write a mini ficlet 💌

Tease tidbit Tuesday
Tagged by @wikiangela @eddiediaztho & @wildlife4life thank u!!🏃🏽‍♀️💗
Here’s more jealous!Eddie for u bc y’all asked for it ayeee
The clock couldn’t be right. Buck left on his date around six hours ago.
Normally he’d be calling him to spill on how horribly things went and they’d laugh about it over inappropriate jokes. Anything to conceal the relief on Eddie’s voice.
Things went well this time, he thought, and his fists tightened. No. No.
He paced around the room for what seemed like days on end, only to find out it was seconds. He was losing his mind. Again.
“For fuck’s sake” he whispered, grabbing his wallet and keys in one sweep and leaving the apartment.
If Buck was going to be sleeping around, he’d have to face Eddie about it.

Tiny drabble for @buddierights featuring hurt Buck and worried Eddie:
30 minutes ago, Buck had gone into the frat house to help a police officer break up a fight; the argument had been that Buck had experience with drunk people getting into fights and he knew how to break them up quickly. 30 minutes was not quick, and Eddie was pacing back and forth, almost wanting to go into the house himself and see what the hell was taking so long.
“I don’t like this,” He said when another five minutes had passed by and there was still no sign of Buck or the patrol officer that went in with him. “I should go in and check on them.”
Bobby sighed, “If they needed backup they would’ve radioed, we have to trust them.”
Eddie sighed and leaned back on the firetruck, eyes still set in the front door of the frat house. He really should’ve gone in with him, and he was beating himself over it when he finally saw the officer walking out with the two guys in handcuffs, and behind him, Buck was walking out holding a pack of frozen carrots to his face.
“What the fuck?” Eddie heard Hen said, but he was already rushing to the steps that Buck was walking down on carefully, trying not to trip as the frozen carrots obstructed most of his vision. “Buck,” He said when he was close enough, the other man stopping on the spot to wait for Eddie.
His shoulders relaxed, almost like he knew that Eddie would take care of him now.
“I’m fine,” He said, voice coming in nasally; Eddie rolled his eyes and took the frozen pack from his hands to be able to look at the damage.
Underneath Buck’s eyes there was already two bruises forming, the skin too tender to touch, and Buck hissed as Eddie tried to test the area.
“Who did this to you?” He whispered, voice coming out angry and tight. Tearing his gaze away from the damage in Buck’s face and towards the guys being pulled into the back of the police car.  Before he knew it he was taking a step towards them, the only thing stopping him was Buck’s arms around his waist.
“Hey no, it’s not worth it, okay? They’re getting arrested either way, they’ve already been charged with assault, okay?” Buck’s voice was still coming nasally, tail signs of his sinuses swelling up from the hit.
“C’mon, let’s get you checked out,” Eddie said, taking one of Buck’s hands and dragging him to the back of the ambulance, “I thought you had this handled?”
“I did, I always knew this might happen,” He said casually and shrugged.
Eddie shook his head, “You need to stop doing this to me, Evan, whatever they were fighting about it wasn’t worth you getting hit, this is going to take a while to heal, and you know you bruise like a peach, you’re going to be walking around looking like the winter soldier.” Eddie mumbled as he started to test around Buck’s eye sockets and nose to make sure that nothing was broken.
Buck stayed quiet as Eddie checked him over, applying some numbing cream to help with the pain and then took a step back, his eyes finally meeting Buck’s again. He was looking back at him with so much softness and love that Eddie had to step close to him again and kiss him quickly.
“You scared me,” Eddie whispered, kissing his lips one last time and stepping away before they got caught.
“I’m sorry, promise I’m okay.”
Eddie nodded, taking one last kiss before they had to rejoin the rest of the crew. Eddie knew that Buck was going to be the dead of him, always getting into trouble, but he wouldn’t have it any other way.

Buck: "Hey, hey Eddie, what are you doing??"
He questioned reaching for his bicep to stop him.
Eddie: "what does it look like?"
Buck: "it looks like you're about to go back into the burning building you just walked out of. Eddie you can't, this isn't your job anymore."
Eddie: "I'm still a firefighter Buck, and you are not going back in there without me."
Buck: "Eddie..."
Eddie: "you coming?"
Buck smiles ruefully, "Yeah, yeah I'm coming."
