Fuck It Saturday
I'm not sure if it's friday anywhere anymore so we're fucking it on a Saturday!! I've been super lax on writing this week because I've got a beefy 3k word report on care for transgender/gender diverse parents during pregnancy due on Monday and I am not even halfway done dfkjds. BUT I did get a small trickle of Frostpunk AU beans so I thought I'd share! Snippet below the line bc it's kinda long

Buck’s reading to Christopher when it happens.
Ever since Christopher woke up, Buck has been keeping a near-constant vigil at his bedside, keeping the boy entertained and comfortable where he can. He’d even snuck into the Children’s Shelter to borrow some toys for Christopher - a set of cards, a rainbow puzzle, a small, plastic dinosaur toy, and a fluffy rabbit that Christopher had kept tucked under his arm ever since.
So, it’s not entirely surprising that Buck is there when Edmundo wakes up.
The first indication is the bleeping on Edmundo’s heart monitor begins to increase in speed. Buck stops midsentence and turns in his chair. The first thing he notices is that Edmundo’s eyes are open, wide and fearful as he looks around the room.
In a flash, Buck is on his feet, book clattering to the floor, and he rushes over to Edmundo’s bedside.
“Hen!” he yells, praying his friend is close enough to hear. “Chimney! Someone, come quick!!”
Edmundo’s chest begins to heave as a heavy panic sets in and he raises his arms to claw at the breathing tube down his throat. Buck grabs his wrists and pins them to his size, and is surprised at the strength of the man. It takes no small amount of effort to keep him from ripping the tube out, or scrabbing at the IV lines in his arms.
“Hey, hey it’s okay, Hen and Chimney are coming, just breathe for me,” Buck says hurriedly as he watches Edmundo gag around the tube. He knows the man will be getting oxygen, but that won’t be stopping the feeling of suffocation, the feeling of obstruction in his throat.
Edmundo’s eyes bug out as he looks at Buck, gaze boring into him in a silent plea. Help me. Make it stop.
There’s a clattering of feet on linoleum as Hen, Chimney, and another medic Buck doesn’t know the name of all sprint into the cramped med bay.
“What’s going on, what happened?” Hen asks as she comes screeching to a halt, but it doesn’t take a genius to figure out what’s going on. Before Buck can even open his mouth, Chimney is grabbing the extubation equipment and barking orders at Hen and the medic, all three swarming Edmundo’s bedside.
Buck’s in the way, he knows it but he cannot make himself move. Instead, he takes both of Edmundo’s hands and laces their fingers together, squeezing lightly to give Edmundo something to focus on.
“Look at me, Edmundo,” he says as Hen peels off the tape keeping the tube in place. Edmundo’s eyes flick back towards Buck, his eyebrows scrunched together, and Buck’s stomach twists uncomfortably as he sees a tear slide down Edmundo’s cheek.
“That’s it, just keep your eyes on me.”
“Okay, extubating patient now. Hen, have suction at the ready. Jess, get the O2 mask,” Chimney orders, and there’s a fluffy of movement as everyone gets in position.
Buck looks away. He doesn’t want to watch the tube come out. He’s never been the best with medical things at the best of times and this.. well he’s not exactly sure why the thought of Edmundo in particular being in pain makes him so unhappy but it does. So he doesn’t watch, instead keeping his eyes trained firmly on his and Edmundo’s hands. It doesn’t escape his notice the way Edmundo’s knuckles go white as he clings to Buck for dear life.
There’s horrible wet noise followed by the sound of suction and a volley of wet coughs, before Buck hears a deep breath in. He chances a glance upwards and sees Edmundo, eyes open and sans tube for the first time he got to Sector 118. There’s an oxygen mask fitted over his face, fogging up with every breath Edmundo takes.
Instantly, relief flows through Buck like warm honey, filtering through his veins until he’s lighter and warmer than he’s been in days. Edmundo’s awake. Edmundo is breathing on his own. Edmundo’s alive.
Buck grins, unable to contain his joy. “Welcome back to the world of the living, Edmundo.”
“Eddie,” the guy croaks, and Buck blinks.
“Huh?”
“Name’s E-Eddie. Not Edmundo,” he rasps, before breaking out into a coughing fit. Buck rushes to help him upright, takes off the oxygen mask, and holds out a container as Edmundo – Eddie spits into it, his chest heaving from the force of his coughs. Buck rubs his back, murmuring reassuring words until Eddie takes a shaky breath and allows himself to rest back against his pillows.

Hello! I hope everybody had a good week, mine was very fulfilling and ended on a really great note (hung out with a cute girl lol) (I’m a little tipsy as I type this haha)

I've done collabs where we each write a chapter, one where we each wrote a chapter and then fully co-wrote the final chapter, a full co-write with @welcometololaland (that ended up morphing into each of us alternating chapters), and I'm in the process of another co-write with Lola atm.

What's a wip you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
I don't like to say never, but probably the SC paint & sip au

based on the comments I get - smut with feelings, banter/dialogue, characterisation
What are your writing weaknesses?
World building, pretty metaphors, I'm far too fond of run on sentences to the point where if I was beta reading my own writing there are SO MANY sentences that need to be cut down so that the reader can breathe.
Thoughts on dialogue in another language?
If it fits the character, I love it! I generally ask a native speaker to help me with translations for accuracy

Honestly, if it's queer and the characters have good chemistry I'm all aboard (but if I have to pick it's Buddie or Tarlos).
What's a wip you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
I have one, the very first I started in earnest, an au where Patrick is a musician who breaks up with his girlfriend and becomes the focus of a lot of speculation about his sexuality. His publicist, Alexis Rose, calls in a favor from her reclusive writer brother to let Patrick stay with him until the media dies down. That's all I got and there's not really a plot that's calling to me after that yet. Maybe someday!
What are your writing strengths?
Dialogue? I hope characterization. I also think pacing/flow comes fairly organically to me, and I can usually make plot decisions and stick with them (mostly.).
What are your writing weaknesses?
I have a pretty brain-intensive 8-5, so sometimes when I come home to write I have no brain left but I want to write, and then I feel like I write really generally and can't get what's in my head down on paper exactly how I want. Like I write a few hundred words and think back and go, "Huh. The word count went up so I guess I wrote something? No idea what though." And it's a crapshoot on whether I want to go back through the fic and fix those things.
Thoughts on dialogue in another language?
I'm semi-comfortable with a phrase here or there in my own work as long as it's a language I'm a little familiar with, but beyond that I'm out of my depth.
First fandom you wrote in?
9-1-1: Lone Star (and the thunder rolls)
Favourite fic you've written?
and i'll leave my heart wide open. (i will love and have no fear). It was such a challenge to write for my first fic exchange on a deadline and I really love the way it turned out.

I don't write fics with angsty endings. I like to wrap things up neatly (and usually with a punchy last line).

I have. I delete that shit because nobody asked for it and it's rude as fuck.

Perhaps shockingly, I do not have any lingering WIPs.

I have been told I'm good at setting a scene, drop in moments, and making things feel real/lived in.
What are your writing weaknesses?
Can't use a comma correctly to save my life. And needing heaps of validation from my designated flailers.
Thoughts on dialogue in another language?
I've used it. I think it's fun when the situation is right.
I had someone that actually speaks the language translate everything for me. I probably would not have used it without having that resource available.
First fandom you wrote in?
I plead the fifth on this one.
Favourite fic you've written?
Honestly, the original fic I'm working on now. I'm proud of every fic I've written (even the terrible early stuff), because it was what I wanted to say at the time. But I LOVE what I'm writing now, and that' fun, too.

stuck now so long, we just got the start wrong
aka rival firefighters 🚒 | buddie | chapter 2/10 | Explicit
Eddie’s just finished helping load up the last patient into the 118’s ambulance, Wilson already in the front with the engine running and ready to go, and Han in the back, settling in beside their patient, when Buckley finds him again.
“Diaz! Are you a match? Because you ignite a fire within me.” Buck says, stupid cocky smile in place.
“Are you a smoke detector? Because you’re really loud and annoying.” Eddie shoots back, way too mentally worn out from triage to go another round with Buckley.
A loud laugh rips out of Wilson, echoing through the cabin while Han laughs so hard he almost chokes on his gum. Once Han’s recovered, he wipes his eyes, looking at Buckley and wheezing out, “Oh my god you can’t be serious?”
Eddie uses the question as his chance to slip away and make his way back to his own team. Only for Buckley to call out to him not even seconds later.
“Hey, Diaz!”
So close. He was so close.
He comes to a stop but doesn’t turn around, not wanting to give Buckley the satisfaction or whatever.
“I hate it when you go! But I love to watch you leave!”
Eddie shakes his head and can’t control the huff of a laugh that breaks free. This guy really is something else. Eddie doesn’t even bother with giving him the finger or retaliating, just continues walking until he’s back with the 136.

getting into a character's head, portraying feelings, although I think I'm getting slowly better at that.
Thoughts on dialogue in another language?
until duolingo laid off their a bunch of their translators and started using ai, I was using it to learn Spanish and felt pretty comfortable with the language, but if I ever do use Spanish in fic, I would want a native speaker to look over it to see if it makes sense. however, I never found a reason to put it in fic yet.

yes I know that he's my ex
it's my first time writing intense emotion in a fic and I'm really glad I pulled it off. so i'm really proud of it.

Three months after Tommy kissed him passed so fast, but Buck enjoyed every second of it. Every date, kiss, hug, sex. Every text till the next opportunity to meet again between their shifts.
Tommy makes him feel happy, giddy, smitten and, most importantly, wanted. He isn’t the one chasing so hard he forgets about himself this time, or the passive one, letting relationships just come to him, not trying to do much. No, now he takes as much as he gets.
Of course, during their first three weeks Tommy was the one who was making most of the moves. He would set the dates, time and date, just asking Buck if he wanted to have another date and then tell him when and where it would be. Tommy was the one buying him flowers, initiating kisses or any form, even not sexual intimacy - always making sure Buck was ok with everything, never rushing him to do something Buck didn’t want to. And it made Buck feel safe. Soon he was the one to lean and kiss the man, or hug, or put his hand on Tommy’s tight, while the man would drive him to the next date’s destination, any time he wanted.
Or Buck and Tommy enjoy their relationships, fall in love and go to Madney wedding together

putting the F in our Friday again as for reasons (aka @stagefoureddiediaz ) I was reminded of this so in my eternal battle to bring 911 fans into the dragonhold or weyr I offer art and smut to start the weekend from to To Fly The Skies 60K
The gap between them makes him ache, it feels too wide after what they just shared. Buck slides closer, slowly because he feels oddly shy right now. Eddie continues to smile softly and reaches out to take his hand, fingers brushing his knuckles in a gentle caress. It makes his heart flutter, Buck’s eyes drop and focus of the slow movement, his heart is beating faster.
“I’m glad you’re home.” Buck’s voice is soft and quiet, he lifts his eyes to meet Eddie’s and ends up caught there, just looking at him, wondering how this happened to him. How he got to have this man.
“Me too” Eddie matches his quiet tone not looking away.
“And we’re good now?” Buck checks, biting on his lower lip nervously. Eddie lifts the hand not holding onto Buck and frees his lip from the anxious nibbling, “you’ll hurt yourself like that” he mummers, thumb now running gently across the reddened skin, Buck lets his mouth relax, his breath quickening at the look in Eddie’s eyes.
“Yes we’re good,” he starts to push Buck backwards “and we have some time before Chris will be back. If you can think of anything we could do?” His eyes crinkle as he says it and Buck’s hit with a wave of love and affection, it’s coming from both of them, flowing freely in both directions.
Buck laughs, as Eddie pushes him lower, he lets himself be pressed flat onto the bed, “cool, did you want to get some chores done” he smirks at the look he gets “cos I kinda need to tidy up round here.”
“Shut up” Eddie tells him fondly, as he leans further forward, hands on either side of Buck’s head, swinging his leg over so he can straddle Buck.
Buck likes the direction this is going “You going to make me?” he challenges teasingly.
”Maybe” Eddie’s voice is deep and holds a promise Buck is very interested in investigating. He can’t help notice how the muscles of Eddie’s arms flex as he gets slowly closer controlling his decent carefully until he’s lying flat on top of him, their bodies pressed together. Buck shudders at the relief it brings, Eddie’s a steady reassuring weight holding him down, enveloping him, with their chests pressed together like this their hearts are aligned, beating so closely to each other. He feels a little dizzy at the thought as he lifts his head up, silently asking to be kissed.
Eddie obliges, dipping down to close the tiny gap left between them, taking Buck’s lips softly with his own, moving them slowly over Buck’s. He teases and pulls at the sensitive flesh gently until Buck’s moaning softly, moving with him. Eventually Eddie pulls away lightly nipping at Buck’s now swollen lip. He sits up moving his weight in just the right way to make Buck groan louder and move his hips in response.
Eddie looks flushed, his eyes bright in the dim room but he chuckles. “You have missed me huh, if a little kiss can get you all worked up like this.” Buck attempts an outraged glare because he says it as if Buck can’t see how hard Eddie is too, as if he isn’t sitting there with a wicked smile as he rocks his hips gently, moving against Buck sending little jolts of pleasure through them both.
Then Eddie rubs against him harder and Buck arches up stifling another moan he manages to say “want me to show you how much I missed you?”
Eddie keeps up the steady rhythm and Buck’s needy whine finally slips out.
“Oh I can tell baby” Eddie sounds extremely pleased by the fact and by the way Buck suddenly gasps out his name.
“Tell me more” he says his voice becoming rougher, letting his own need start to show. Buck knows how much Eddie likes it when he talks in bed, what it does to him. He’s happy to oblige.
“That first night I was so cold without you,” Eddie leans back down to start work on Buck’s jaw and neck, it makes it harder to concentrate but Buck makes the effort, “couldn’t sleep, wanted you to keep me warm.” Eddie hums next to his skin asking for more.
“Missed you arms, your hands” his breath stutters as Eddie’s mouth makes contact with his chest, clever fingers having unbuttoned his shirt without him noticing. Eddie runs his fingers over muscle and sucks marks onto his body then soothes them with kisses. Buck arches up with breathless gasps that pushes his hips forward. He’s stopped talking so Eddie prompts him “what else did you think or” he hums against his skin, runs the flat of his tongue over Buck’s nipple “do while I was gone?”
Buck gathers himself and continues “Thought about you, things you’d do to me if you were there. Thought about this, your mouth all over me” Eddie grazes his teeth over Buck’s nipple making him hiss in pleasure. “Yeah like that, made me hard Eddie just thinking about you. Wanted to touch myself”
Eddie sounds cool and collected when he asks “Did you?”
“Tried to be good and wait but I couldn’t, felt so good, not as good as your hand, still wished it was you”

Eddie’s watching him intently eyes dark and hooded. “Show me” he asks again then comes back to press soft bites into the flesh of his neck up to his ear, making Buck whimper, he whispers “don’t rush baby take your time.”
Buck’s eyelids flutter shut, his hands traces the outline of his cock, he lets his fingers drift lightly up and down, he’s only starting to tease himself. He can hear the hitch in Eddie’s breathing and opens his eyes to see him staring down the length of his body, he’s transfixed by the sight of Buck’s hand sliding up and down. Buck wants to push them both a little further.
“I touched myself like this, thinking about you, wishing it was you.” He lets his grip get firmer he wants a little more, he moans at the feeling and at the thought that Eddie’s watching, enjoying what he sees, getting harder. Eddie shifts slightly Buck doesn’t realise where his hands have gone until he feels a finger slide between his legs to circle slowly around his entrance,

“Buck?
