Mind if I could have a SAGAU request? So the player is burnt out from the game. Like completely. Some characters find a way to your desktop and ask "Why haven't you entered Teyvat lately?" After explaining that you still like/love them, they are disappointed but understandable. Problem is, they can't go back until you launch the game. So the characters sort of become desktop buddies (Showing my age aren't I?) and perhaps helping you out in the various other games the player would play or just vibing as you surf the web, make arr, write stories, etc. As for the characters... Aether and Paimon at least, though adding Kazuha, Yanfei, Freminet, Bennett, Fischl, Childe, and Collei would be cute too.
Genshin Impact Desktop Buddies
Summary: In which your favourite Genshin characters miss you.
Or now you have them as your desktop buddies until Genshin Impact is fixed.
Pairings: Aether & Paimon, Kazuha, Yanfei, Childe and Fischl x Neutral! Reader!
Note: Desktop buddies are ancient now lol, but honestly such a cool thing to have back then. Hope you enjoy!
Warning: None, just fluffy goodness.
★・・・・・・★
You’re tired. Like really tired.
Grinding for artifacts, ascension and weapon materials has worn you out. That includes your wallet too.
They were worth it, no doubt about that, but staring at a screen all day every day could tire anyone out.
And yea, you need sleep.
For the first time in a long time, you decided to shut down the game, and take at least a few day break.
It’s not like it would make a big difference right?
Little did you know, it most definitely would.
Just a few days later, not only did your laptop started acting weird to the point where you thought of buying a new one, Genshin also disappeared from your desktop.
Before you knew it, you see little figures that look oddly familiar on your screen…
“Why haven’t you entered Teyvat lately?”
Aether & Paimon
The player spun around, eyes widening at the sight of Aether and Paimon now out of the game, and...hopping around on your screen.
"Aether? Paimon? How... how are you here?".
Aether stepped forward.
"Our Creator, we've missed you. The others are worried. Why haven't you been to Teyvat?"
You sighed, has it already been a couple of days? Also, since when were you their creator?
"I'm just a little tired-” There was a dramatic gasp from Paimon.
“Tired of us? Aether! Our Creator is tired of us!”
“No! I mean, I still love Teyvat and all of you, but I needed a break and I will go back soon." You quickly responded with reassurance, which luckily appeased the floating companion.
Paimon floated closer, which was like a weird zoom on her face, her eyes softening with understanding.
"We get it, but... we can't go back to Teyvat until you' launch' the game." She says robotically, but appeared confused right after.
“Ah, okay. Give me a minute.”
When you tried to download the game via the Genshin website, it stated that there was a website maintenance.
“Creator! What is happening? The world is changing!” While you were frustrated, Aether and Paimon were jumping and flying everywhere around your screen, exploring how tabs open and following your mouse as you click and hover.
Their curiosity made you smile, and you slowly explain how everything works slowly as with each passing second, they marvel at how advanced your world is.
“No wonder you’re our Creator!”
“What’s this!?” Before you knew it, you pulled up multiple websites, and the one you landed on was Disney+.
“Do you want to watch a movie?”
“What’s that?” Aether asked, curious, followed by Paimon’s cute little head tilt.
(You wished you could just squeeze those cute little cheeks-)
“It’s like telling a story, but you get to see it unfold right before you. Here.” You pull up ‘My Little Mermaid’ and they jump seeing the video move, with everyone inside move.
“Woah…it’s like another world!”
Aether seemed to marvel over it, and for a moment, he wondered, maybe, you could traverse worlds too.
Seeing the stars in their eyes made you feel guilty, as if another misunderstanding arose, but you let them be, as their cute little figures sat down and watched the movie.
You too, watched it with them, and for the first time in a while, you didn’t feel lonely.
Throughout the movie, you patted them on the head with your mouse, which the two seemed to like very much.
(And yes, you did pinch those cute little cheeks)
Kazuha
“I’m glad that you didn’t abandon us, Your Highness.”
Never in your wildest dreams did you expect to see THE Canadian Aether, Kazuha, on your screen, bowing respectfully to you.
“Let me know if I can help you in any way. Although my form is…not in the most helpful form, I will do my best.”
You held back a giggle when you saw a shy little Kazuha looking at himself and then at you shyly, and you really wanted to tease him, but you chose not to.
Instead, you pull up your incomplete art project.
Might as well since you can’t download Genshin now and might have to wait for a few days.
“Actually Kazuha, I was hoping you could help me finish my art.” He immediately perked up, a serious expression overtook his shy one.
“Of course, Your Highness, let me know what you want to draw and I can help you!”
“Great! I’m trying to draw a handsome and cute man, he has platinum blond hair…” Slowly, you list one by one, the characteristics of the person you want to draw.
Kazuha learns fast. Soon, he was able to figure out how your art platform worked.
At first, he hesitated, and didn’t want to interrupt your drawing, but slowly, he learned to add in his thoughts and feedback, and guided your mouse to smooth out the lines, and perfect the colouring.
“He has red eyes…”
Calming and soothing, his voice made you feel at peace, just like how you would hang out with him at the top of a mountain somewhere and listening to the game music.
But this time, he was a little closer, where he felt more real albeit still in your screen.
“Your Highness…isn’t this…me?” His little cheeks was dusted with pink as he quickly covered it with his hands.
“It is you.”
“But why…”
“Because you’re one of my favourites, Kazuha.”
It was all it took for him to become shy again, and he began to cough awkwardly as if to mask his embarrassment.
“Thank you…Your Highness.”
Yanfei
“Phew! We were so scared that you left us Your Eminence! But…I suppose we can’t do anything until you open up Teyvat again, until then, let me know if I can help you!”
Yanfei's cheerful voice made you smile as you leaned against your palm.
Then she turned around, as if taking in her surroundings before looking back at you.
“Your Eminence, if I may, may I help you organize your…space?”  You blink, and that was when you notice the amount of files littered across the desktop screen, and you realized that from Yanfei’s view, it must’ve been very unorganized.
“Sure.”
Yanfei brightens at your acceptance, and hopped a little to show her excitement.
“Okay! I’m good at this, so leave it to me! Just follow my lead.”
You were gonna clean up your PC eventually, though you did not expect it would be today.
Either way, Yanfei was like a referee and a police, asking questions but also making sure everything was organized correctly.
In a way, Yanfei felt like a Mom asking her child to clean her room.
Even so, it was so cute to see her marching everywhere like a soldier and asking you to organize it in a neat manner.
“Okay, next, let’s organize this folder!”
“Okay-” Before you knew it, you immediately hit backspace.
“Your Eminence…who was that-”
“Let’s move on.” But Yanfei stared at that folder with an intense stare. Did she see it?
With a little nudge and push with your mouse, Yanfei eventually moved on, but she constantly had a smile on her lips.
It was you cosplaying as her for an event.
Yanfei would be sure to tell her friends back home.
Childe
“Well, I’m happy to hear that, Your Highness! But…what were you doing? Away from Teyvat?”
Childe’s smile was a little bit menacing to look at, so you pull up what you were doing before to distract him.
And it did, surprisingly.
“What is this?”
“It’s a game called Valorant.”
You start the game, and once you get prepared, he too was locked in.
With each attack and maneuver, Childe slowly became hyped up by your skill and admired it.
“Your Highness! Why didn’t you tell me before?!” He became to gush, albeit trying to remain civil as he looked between you and your character in game.
“Again.” In the end, he asked (begged) for another show.
This time, you changed your agent to someone else, and once again, showed how skilled you are even in melee, which Childe initially advised against.
But you blew his expectations away.
“Your Highness, can I duel you?”
You blink, before you laugh jokingly, but you knew in real life, Childe would absolutely crush you.
But you leave him be, and instead start another game.
Honestly, Childe would be a great hype man.
Fischl
“Ah, of course! How the stars seem to be against us this time…regardless! With me, Fischl von Luftschloss Narfidort here, there is nothing you need to worry about!”
As expected, Fischl is quite the actor and storyteller as she spews on about how she faced something similar before, something just as interstellar as this.
You don’t mind it, after all, if you did, you wouldn’t have Fischl on your team the entire time would you?
Fischl deserves more love is what you find in the fandom, and while she may be annoying at times, you found her passion admirable, and even a little sad when you think this is her way of happiness.
So you respected that, and listened as she rambled on, and moved as if she was on the stage.
Perhaps…she would do good on stage with Furina in Fontaine.
“Fischl, I do need your help on something.” You asked when she finally finished, and she straightened herself with grace as expected from the Prinzessin der Verurteilung.
“I need your help with my stories. I want you to create elaborate and dramatic narratives for everyone to love.” She froze for a moment, but her grin immediately hid her surprise.
“Why of course, I would be delighted. Allow me!” With just a few seconds to think, she immediately began her storytelling.
With her little graceful steps and hops, she almost dances away, but she doesn’t stop sharing her fantasy story full of magic, fate, and stars.
It was hard to keep up, but you didn’t want to disappoint her, so you did your best to type her word by word.
Luckily, she seemed to slow down to match your pace, as if the two of you were a duet with the piano and violin.
When she stops, you end off the story with a dramatic click, and you match her prideful smile.
Truly, Fischl is a character not everyone can handle, but that’s alright.
After all, you love her for who she is, and maybe, Fischl appreciated that more than anything else.

I went through some of the official material to find sources that might be useful when writing Raphael and Haarlep (may also be helpful when writing Mizora and Mephistopheles). Here's a collection of what I found, with some notes.
Overview:
Cambion and succubus stat blocks
More stat blocks
Devil contracts
Avernus
Magic in Avernus
Map of Avernus
Blood War
Soul coin
Menu
Infernal Cambions
Mephistopheles
Ranks
Devil Cults
From the Monster Manual:
Cambion stat block
Tumblr media
BG3 only players might not be familiar with these spells, so I'm linking them here: Alter Self - Detect Magic - Plane Shift
Note that this version for Plane Shift only works on the cambion themself, whereas the spell normally works on up to eight willing creatures, or one unwilling creature. Raphael might have used a variant of the spell to unwillingly transport the player and companions to the House of Hope and back.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Telepathic Bond" is an interesting ability that Haarlep doesn't have in BG3.
There is a spell called Shapechange but it seems to work very differently from Shapechanger.
Also, the whole "taking your form and you can feel when it's being use" thing isn't mentioned here, it might be something unique to Haarlep or something they learned, rather than an inherent ability.
From the Monster Manual Expanded:

From Descent into Avernus:
Devil Contracts
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I feel that in the Infernal Hierarchy, Raphael falls into the "Duke" category, which is probably unusual for a cambion. (He is not an archduke, as archdukes are the rulers of the hells. He wants to be one, but isn't yet.)
The contract forms we see him use in the game are close to "Infernal Scroll" (the contract the player can sign) and "Song of the devil" (the contract he made with Yurgir).
Avernus
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Pieces of cities stolen from other planes" might also be the case with the HoH, though Raphael probably added the devil statues later on.
Magic in Avernus
Tumblr media
Good to keep in mind when writing a wizard character!
Map of Avernus
Tumblr media
Blood War
Tumblr media
I don't think Raphael works directly for Zariel. He still has to follow her laws though, as we can see in the HoH, where the archivist is expecting a visit from Zariel's High Inquistor.
I think Raphael might be paying the hell equivalent of taxes to Zariel for living and operating out of Avernus. He may also occasionally sell useful items or souls to Zariel's forces, to profit from the Blood War. He does mention one of his goals is to end (win) the blood war, so he is at least on Zariel's side, if not fighting with her directly.
Soul coin
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That's about 13 cm and 150 grams.
Menu
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some dishes one might be served in the hells. Raphael also mentions "Cocktails and Canapés" when talking to Yurgir, so that's something that exists in this world!
From Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes:
Infernal Cambions
Tumblr media
This could be the reason why many of Raphael's attacks create Hellfire, which is something Mephistopheles invented.
Mephistopheles
Tumblr media
Ranks
Tumblr media
Like I said above, I think Raphael has the title of Duke, which would put him at rank 12, but I think rank 11 would also be realistic.
Devil Cults
Tumblr media
I don't think Raphael would worship Mephisto, but you could easily argue he has inherited his affinity for fire magic through genetics.
Also note that unlike most other devils, Raphael is not trapped in the Nine Hells. As a cambion he can plane shift once per day and can easily access the Material Plane. He might still want a cult worshipping him for other reasons though.

Will the other companions be jealous that we are closer to Gale?
So I've been watching a lot of Baldur's Gate tiktoks and I've been thinking about the game a lot so please send in more Baldur's Gate stuff.
Anyway, 100 percent. They are so jealous of Gale and he relishes in it. I believe in babygirl Gale, but I feel like people infantilize him a lot, and it makes it really though to read fanfic about him, because at least in my head, he's a lot more confident that people realize, he's just a nerd.
This applies a lot to how he treats reader, he knows he's a little weird, but you don't seem to care, so he's taking every opportunity to grow close to you. In a lot of ways, he relates a lot to Isekai reader. You're alone and ostracized from most people around you, people view you as weird and don't take you seriously most of the time. He knows what it feels like not to belong or have a sense of purpose, so he makes an effort to stay close to you, keep you safe, teach you about this world. He also can't deny that it definitely strokes his ego a bit when you seem so impressed by realistically basic things.
Back to the topic of jealousy, the other companions, once coming to terms with their feelings, definitely feel jealous that you are so close to Gale. However, the emotions are a lot more complex than that. They know the reason you're close to Gale is because they pushed you away, made you feel other while forcing you to lead and protect them. Some of them feel as though they don't have the right to be jealous when they were so unwilling to believe you in the beginning. A lot of them simply stew in their jealously rather than act on it since they view it as some sort of punishment.

(You wake up.)
Tumblr media
(How long were you asleep? You were asleep so long you were dreaming. You were having a nightmare, more like. You were wandering around Dormont, and no matter what you'd say, everyone else would stay to The Script. Even when you saw yourself at the favor tree, all you would do is say the same stupid lines.)
(You shudder. Never again, please, never again.)
(You look to your side, someone had placed a heaping plate of food on your nightstand. Your stomache growled, so you decided to grab a bite. A quesadilla again, naturally. It was mostly cold now. That would put you at least an hour, maybe two behind schedule. It sounded busy outside, so maybe closer to midday?)
(What WAS your schedule?)
(Wake up, be sick, bump into isabeau, breakfast, explain over breakfast, clean up, prep for the day, go out and do whatever. Ramos came around at about. . . Three hours past noon. Stars, you had to plan.)
(You start to eat as you get up; your body lodging formal and VERY vocal complaints against moving. Stars, you were so hungry, you already finished your first quesadilla and needed another. And you still needed to get dressed!)
(It took a few minutes, but you were up, fed, and ready. Looking yourself over in the small mirror in your rented room, you looked. . . Looked like normal. Looked like him. Looked like you? Maybe.)
(Who were you, Loop? Who were you now? Just the friendly star? Is that all?)
(Ha. hahahhaha.)
(Curse you, Universe.)
(You head downstairs.)
". . . Hellooooo?" (Huh. There wasn't anyone around. They must have headed out or. . . Wait.)
(That noise you heared. It sounded familiar actually. You walk over to the door to the front yard and pull it open.)
(!!!!)
(Mirabelle, Bonnie, Nille, Isabeau, and Odile were all there going over battling! It looks like Isa was pretending to be a big ol scary sadness, it was, surprisngly similar to the house! You knew the script by heart too! Next Bonnie would say-)
"IF WE DO A COMBO, AND HAVE FIVE OF THE SAME SYMBOL, WE DO A 'JACKPOT SKILL!!!"'
"Exactly, Boniface. And see? We already have a combo of two right there."
(Ah right, because you weren't there to give that third hit.)
"When we get five of the same symbol, whether Rock, Paper, or Scissors, we'll be able to use a Jackpot Skill. . ."
"Only Rock, Paper, and Scissors attacks count for the Jackpot, by the way. We should be careful with how we use those skills, but we can use any other type of skill or item without breaking the combo."
"Yeah!! A combo will beat me!! Please, do a combo!"
(Hehe, because he's being a big ol sadness and not "knocked out.")
"You heared the man. Let's add three more scissors symbols to our lineup, shall we?"
(. . . Heh. Hehehehehehehe.)
(If you were going to be stuck in Stardusts little body, you will have some fun.)
"Of course M'dame!" (You say as you run past them all straight as Isabeau, leaping at him while he's still surprised. You both tumble back into the grass. You make a scissors symbol, and poke him on the nose with it.)
"!!!?!?!??!?!??!??!!?"
(Oh he looks so confused. And maybe blushing a little? Oh silly Loop~ You look over your shoulder to the rest of your companions with a cheeky smile.)
". . .Oops~"
"'HEY!!!" (Bonnie stomped the ground angry.) "CRABFACE!!! WE HAD THE MEANIE HANDLED!!!"
"L-language." (Nille was barely holding in a laugh, probably at seeing such a big guy like Isa being boddied by a twig like you.) "Good morning to you too."
(Odile chuckled and shook her head.) "Defeated in one blow. Truly, you are leagues ahead of us oh wise one."
"I was worried we were going to die, oh how strong it was!" (Mira continues.) "Bested by someone who should still be resting up!!!"
(Wuhoh.)
"A-ah, I'm doing fine! S-see?" (You say, getting off of Isabeau and sitting on the grass.) "No issue whatsoever~"
"incredible, absolutely incredible." (Odile says, she and the rest coming over.) "You're somehow a worse liar than Siffrin."
"Wh-" (You choke on your words.)
"Do they look paler than normal?" (Nille teased.) "What do you think Bonbon?"
"They look like white paint!!!"
"H-hey guys be nice!" (Isabeau FINALLY sat up.) "Loop just woke up, after all."
"Aww thank you Isabeau~" (You stretch. Huh, Loop, it was kind of nice to be known, honestly.) "And what have you all been up to since I passed out."
"Quite a bit!" (Mirabelle said, shaking her hands excitedly) "Madame Odile had an idea about your looping! And we decided to try and making easier! A-and-"
"Alright 'Bella, how about we get inside first." (Nille says, picking up her hammer.) "Gotta say, y'all really do have the whole battling thing down much better than I do."
"Oh don't worry Nille!" (Isabeau gets up.) "We were traveling for a whole year! We had lots of practice!"
"But until you catch up try to stick back with Boniface." (Odile adds.)
"Maybe I should be telling all you that~" (You joke, standing up.) "But really, I am feeling much better."
"Good! Now, to buisness-" (Odile leads you all back inside.)
(Your allies had been busy during your nap. They had gathered all the trinkets and supplies you'd gathered. You didn't bring all the eqipment you found in the house with you, and you didn't have nearly as much tonics, but it wasn't nothing. Paper mache gauntlets, Wok, etc.)
(They went over basic battling, and brushed up on their crafts. Nille had a solid place in battle too now. She had a nack for countering hits, so she'd stay to the side untill an opritunity showed itself and she'd jump in.)
(They were. . . Thinking about you?)
"-as the theory goes, anyway." (Odile had just finished explaining her theory on sleeping and looping.) "I do hope it's true, it would make everything so much easier."
"And if it does work!" (Mira says, excited.) "In the future just come out and say which loop it is! Everyone talked it out and well, i-it'll be easier to help you!"
"That's. . ." (It was, it was a lot to take in.) "That's really thoughtful."
"I didn't want you to have to do this alone." (Isa is smiling at you.) "We didn't, so, we perpared for you!"
"It was pretty fun, actually." (Nille is leaning back.) "Change, like I was finally getting to join my little sibling on fighting the bad guy."
"Yeah!!! And this time we're doing it as a big family!!!" (Bonbon, they're giving you the biggest smile.)
(You, you don't know how to respond.)
"I know this probably wont be the last loop, so we wont remember, but, that's ok!" (Isabeau. . .) "Because, Loop, I know every other me is going to try just as hard to help you!"
"Me too!"
"Mine as well."
"Same here!"
"YEAH!!!"
(Oh stars.)
(O-oh stars, it's, it's all too much. You're starting to cry. You're crying. It's, it's like when you first met them, so kind, and, a-and, and they're treating you like, like-)
"U-UH!!" (Isabeau holds up his hands seeing you cry.) "D-did I do something wrong?!?"
(You shake your head.)
"I think it's all a bit overwhelming. Besides, we were practicaly strangers in Dormont." (Odile rightly points out.)
"Doesn't matter!!" (Bonbon runs over to your side.) "Hey, hey, look at me."
(You look up at Bonnie, they're waving their hands-)
Tumblr media
"You've been helping 'Frin out, and you helped us out too! We're not strangers anymore!"
"Hear hear."
"Alright! Group hug time!"
(O-oh stars, oh starsohstarsoh-)
(You're crying more, they're, they're so nice, they're being so nice. They're. . .)
(They're treating you as you. As Your own person. As a part of Siffrin but, as yourself as well. You're YOU. They know you're you!)
(You're cry even more now.)
"T-th, thank you guys. . ."
(You all stay a second more there, in a big old hug. They don't know who you really are, but they know you're Loop, and Loop needs help. And, they love you, even after all this time, they still love you. . .)
(. . .)
(Eventually, it has to end, and everyone gets back to their seats and you take a few deep breaths. In, and out.)
"Got a plan today then, Loop?" (Mira asks.)
"Well, a few~"

Some of my Bad Batch Amusement Park Headcanons Under the Cut
Hunter
Emphasizes that they will not be buying anything in the park, since everything is ridiculously overpriced. He ends up buying things they don’t need anyways.
Can only go on some of the rides, since others are way too intense for him. He’ll hang out with Crosshair while the others go on those.
Constantly asking if any of them are hungry or thirsty or feeling okay. Made them stop walking so he could fuss over Echo since he thought he was in pain (Echo was just annoyed at all of Hunter’s mother-henning).
This results in him and Echo getting into a fight that makes them all walk in silence for about fifteen minutes. Someone (Crosshair) almost cries.
Steals bites of the others’ food.
Wrecker
Omega’s riding companion.
He has to close his eyes during the ascent on rollercoasters due to his fear of heights, but once they’re off, he’s totally fine and having a great time.
Going crazy over the food available at the amusement park because what do you mean they can deep-fry key lime pie???? Echo is concerned, but also impressed at how he doesn’t get sick on rides after eating.
He’s in charge of spinning the teacup since he can make it go extremely fast. The workers are impressed at his strength but also horrified.
Tech
Omega’s other riding companion. He flies like an absolute maniac, of course he’s going to enjoy amusement park rides.
He’s the one who has the map and all of their tickets. He has had their route planned out for weeks and has the app on his phone that says the wait times.
Making sure that everyone stays hydrated.
Will lecture Crosshair and Wrecker over all of the fried food they are consuming, but will say nothing to Omega since she’s a child and should get to have some fun. He even accepts bites of her fried Oreos.
Crosshair
Can only ride the Ferris wheel. He gets sick on everything else because his enhanced vision makes him more susceptible to motion sickness.
Absolute pro at all of the games. Can and will win all of the toys for Omega.
Goes absolutely ham on the sweets available at the park (I headcanon him as having a major sweet tooth). Gets fed up with Tech’s lecturing and eats more sweets out of pure spite. This is something he pays for later.
Will deny it, but constantly checking Omega to see where she is, waiting for her if she wants to look at something or needs to tie her shoe, and offering to carry all of her things so she doesn’t get tired.
Echo
Constantly making them take pictures. Has said “act like you love each other” at least twice while taking said pictures. Got mad at Crosshair for not smiling, but then just left it alone when Crosshair smiled in the worst, most unhinged way possible.
Also sure everyone is staying hydrated and that they are reapplying their sunscreen.
Alternates with Hunter on who will sit with Crosshair when others go on the rides.
Likes all the rides, but rollercoasters are his favorite.
Telling Crosshair, Wrecker, and Omega to take it easy on the snacks. (Some listen more than the others and he has to give the ones who don’t listen pepto later).
Omega
Stealing food from Crosshair and Wrecker (though it isn’t really stealing since they’re fine with it and we’re under the impression they were sharing).
Loves all of the rides, especially rollercoasters that go upside-down (Crosshair gets dizzy just thinking about it).
Treasures all of the toys Crosshair wins for her.
Enlists the others’ help in carrying all of said toys.
Sharing her food with everyone.
She is eating the most balanced out of all of them, since Tech and Echo are making sure she’s getting enough fruits and veggies as well as enough protein. She’s probably also the most hydrated out of them due to everyone fussing over her.

Two random important things I’ve picked up on during my many hours of Hades 2 so far:
1: Melinoe and Arachne are super fucking gay. More so than any of the other companions and it’s kinda funny. Like they literally discuss the love they have for one another once you max out her relationship hearts. I honestly don’t know how to feel about it but I’m kinda all here for it at the same time. It’s especially interesting because (so far, at least) Melinoe has shown basically zero romantic interest/love for ANY of the characters in this game…aside from her? What type of love this is is kinda questionable but this very much reads as that old school “queer-coded but not blatant” type of relationship
2: Random hints about some sort of relationship that Nemesis and Artemis have? Not nearly as blatant as the first observation above but one nonetheless. Both nemesis and Artemis seem to ask about the other and so does Melinoe who asks Nemesis about it once and to which she replies she doesn’t want to leave and look for her because she doesn’t want to “fool around.”
I need more elaboration on both of these immediately

A/n: helloooo. Thank you once again for checking this out! As usual, I hope you enjoy and have a great day :D lmaooo I almost forgot to add chapter links.
Warnings: a little bit of cannibalism because the ghouls have to eat sometimes.
Brief summary: you are an alien on your way to visit another planet when your space ship is attacked and you crash land on Earth. The Ghoul is hunting down his next pay check and finds you. The story is set thirty years before season one.
Chapters
1 2 3 4 5 6
You’d made it out of Wyoming after a few days and travelled along the border of what used to be North and South Dakota. Along the way, you’d encountered a few raiders and cannibals, some other bounty hunters still trying to cash in on Elena Zakharova’s person; but you didn’t really have to lift a finger, the guys had you covered on that front. That was mainly because your brothers felt it necessary to “keep you out of the way” so you wouldn’t stop them from outright killing people. The way you did that night when you had pressured them to welcome the two irradiated humans into your group. Your brothers and the ghouls made sure to aim for the head whenever an attack occurred to prevent you from getting any ideas about helping the aggressors. It was just another way they held you back from your “naivety” as James liked to call it.
You weren’t going to lie and say you were okay with all the death that seemed to drown you. You’d argued with them tirelessly; worried they were giving up their morals and ideals. Maybe they weren’t as attached to them as you were. It bothered you that the simple change of location was enough for them to drop their principles. The things they were taught, the things they grew up valuing. If you were to think back to the comfort of your own home, a place where rules existed and society felt obliged to assist one another —to an extent—, you would not have dreamt of even holding a conversation with a murderer. Yet here you were, travelling with and trusting your life to four of them. Maybe you were too harsh in your train of thought. Too judgemental. You weren’t home, after all. You were stranded on a planet over a hundred light years away with no way to communicate with your people without giving away your location and risking your lives. You had to understand, to some extent, that you were all doing your best, even if you didn’t agree with the methods.
You bit your lip as you continued to ponder, walking along the sandy landscape. It seemed all the fighting brought the men together because the further along the wasteland you all travelled, the friendlier they were to each other. They even joked about their kills. It made your face twitch in irritation. You’d expected it from the humans, but not your brothers. They were raised differently. It must’ve been some kind of a trauma bond kind of thing. Or maybe it was simply your brothers finally coming to terms with your situation and letting go to their circumstances. More so Nikkand’r than Dimiil. Dimiil always held himself up to some kind of standard of decorum, even if this situation was unbecoming of him.
The terrain of the Earth that you’d gotten to see so far was… boring. At least in comparison to your home planet. But you still marvelled at it as you passed. You found a lot of the mutations to be gross, you weren’t going to lie, the grossest being rad roaches, of course. You squirmed every time they came into your view. They’d always laugh at you for it. Well, they all did, except for the Ghoul. That man always looked out for you. He’d immediately shoot and kill them the moment he’d caught them in his line of vision. Luckily, because of this, you didn’t see them as often as any normal human who’d lived in the wasteland would have. And while you weren’t a fan of death, you also weren’t a fan of being eaten by those things. For all the judgement you passed along to your companions, maybe you weren’t any better than them.
Neither of you had spoken about the moment you’d shared in the lab, the one where you’d almost kissed. But the two of you seemed to have an understanding of sorts, of how much you cared for one another. You didn’t need to talk about it because he showed you with his actions. The way he protected you from everything; not to the point where you were left ignorant to the world around you, but he comforted you when you felt uneasy. He knew he wouldn’t be doing you any favours by shutting the world away from you, but he always made it known he’d be there for you. He knew you were a pacifist, and while he didn’t hide you from the violence this world forced onto its people, he made sure you wouldn’t have to act as a result of the violence. He knew you wished to help people and he didn’t necessarily get in your way, but he made it known to you after some time that he wouldn’t outwardly assist by working on the people himself. He’d advise you against it, as the rest of the group did, but he wouldn’t stop you the way they did. The two of you had a deep, mutual respect of one another. He felt as if you connected him to the man he used to be before the Great War and shortly after. Back when he wasn’t so jaded.
When he and James had left for the younger ghoul’s ranch for the horses, he had picked a white one for you. It was very rare to find a spotless, white horse, especially in the new world. But the moment he laid his eyes on it, he thought of you. You were too chicken to ride her on your own, of course, so he let you ride with him. But you kept the horse with you and cared for her anyway. Since you weren’t riding her yourself, everyone loaded their items on her, naturally. When he’d brought the horse to you, you pointed out how the life forms on Earth seemed so mundane and expressed how much you loved that. The Ghoul chuckled to himself because he knew that was far from true and that it was just another one of those things you’d learn sooner or later on your journey. Anything on this planet was far from mundane.
You were halfway across the state when you came across what used to be the Standing Rock Reservation. He told you all to remain cautious and do that “x-ray thang” with your eyes as your horses threaded through the reservation carefully. Luckily, the area seemed as though it had been abandoned. At least for the first hour or so of passing through.
That was when you heard it, the sound of a child crying. Your brothers caught it when you did too but the two humans couldn’t. It was too far and quiet for their ears to register the noise. You looked around but couldn’t see anything. You instructed the Ghoul to have the horse continue walking in the direction you heard it coming from. He expressed his confusion and you just told him to trust you. He nodded and directed the horse towards the path you’d pointed out to him. The rest of the group followed scrupulously. They didn’t have to be too cautious, the area wasn’t heavily wooded, but that didn’t mean the creatures in the place couldn’t hide anywhere, either. Between the few trees that populated the area and the giant hills and mountains here and there, there was always room for some human interaction that could range from somewhat positive to downright abysmal.
“Stop,” Dimiil commanded, you let out a sigh in annoyance as a result. “It’s an ambush.”
“So what? You’re gonna let that kid get killed?”
“Better her than us,” Nikk scoffed.
“Sweetheart, what’s goin’ on?” The older bounty hunter turned his head to look at you as best as he could.
“I take it your sweetheart is gon’ get us killed with that lil’ nice girl act she’s got goin’ on, that’s what,” James pulled out a cigarette to smoke. “Ain’t that right, sweetie?”
“Darlin’, we can’t go ‘round savin’ everybody… You’re askin’ us to get in a whole lotta trouble for what—“
“Incoming,” Dim announced, putting up the forcefield the aliens had used on them when they first encountered the very humans they travelled with. A considerably large bullet shell bounced off the barrier.
“See what I’m talkin’ ‘bout, hon?”
“I got this,” James announced, pulling out his pistol and pointing it at one of the natives he’d seen running in between one of the scarce trees.
“No! Nononono!” You and your fellow aliens yelled in unison to no avail, the human had already fired a shot. He had aimed at your attackers but the bullet simply hit the barricade and ricocheted back in their direction.
They moved out of the way as quickly as possible but James took a hit to the shoulder. He didn’t seem too phased by the pain and simply took out one of the chems you’d prepared for him out of his pocket and plopped it into his mouth, “I’m gon’ need some more of these later, girlie.”
“Do not, I repeat, do not shoot at them while this,” Nikk pointed at the forcefield, “is up. Or you will fuck us.”
“Well, I say to hell with that thang and let’s kill us some smoothies. I’m hungry,” James twirled his pistol by the trigger circle in his index finger. The motion—and his words—made you feel uneasy.
“We will not kill anyone,” you protested as more bullets bounced off your invisible wall.
“They’re shootin’ at us!”
“We’ll be fi—“
“Enough. We’ll take care of this,” Dimiil nodded at the two humans. He then turned his head toward you. “You can stay and take care of the horses.”
“Oh, fuck you,” you crossed your arms. “You’re just gonna have me sit here while you fuckers destroy an entire village?”
Dim and Nikk turned their heads and nodded at each other, “yes,” the eldest alien answered calmly. “Unless you’re willing to partake?”
You grumbled and looked away, focusing your eyes on yet another native that shot at the forcefield that shielded you all, “I will not.”
“Okay then. You can stay here.”
“Can’t we just… go through?”
“You know very well this doesn’t last long,” Nikk answered telepathically, not wanting to risk anyone having that information. Not the ghouls and definitely not the humans shooting at you. While you knew no one understood your native tongue, there was no guarantee in your minds that you were entirely safe to freely speak your thoughts.
You sighed, “fine. But promise me she’ll be safe.”
“Girl, for all you know, they could be usin’ her as bait for suckers like you. She’ll turn on us the moment she sees her friends are dead,” James spat his excess saliva on the ground.
“How could you be certain?”
“I can’t. But I ain’t gon’ risk it for the sake of your little experiment,” he shrugged. “We goin’ or what?”
You stayed quiet as the older bounty hunter jumped off his horse and helped you down. He ruffled the top of your head, messing with your disguised hair. “I’m sorry, bunny, I can’t promise you nothin’…”
You fixed the hair that framed your face, tucking a big strand of hair behind your ear as you looked away from him. “Yeah yeah,” you muttered.
“Thank about it, sweetheart, the more mouths we gotta feed, the harder it’ll be to get where we need to go,” the younger ghoul took another puff of his cigarette before throwing it on the ground and stomping on it. “We’ve already got all these fuckers to feed, includin’ ourselves.”
You nodded, not wanting to keep the argument going any longer, wishing it would all be over already. You watched as the forcefield went out for a second to allow the males to step out of it, guns blazing. That invisible shield went back up the moment they’d stepped out. You leaned on your horse as you watched them blow those poor people’s heads off. Grimacing as you watched the scene play out in front of you. You didn’t quite understand how they all managed to remain stoic—how the two humans seemed to enjoy themselves, even smiling as they pulled their triggers. But something you understood even less was how your brothers seemed so unphased at the prospect of taking those human lives. You grew up in the same household, after all. But then again, their training in the military back at home was slightly different than yours. Theirs was more combat oriented—yes, you were all trained to be spies first and foremost, but they were trained to be more combative while you were trained in more intelligence based fields such as chemistry and stealth. That kind of explained their nonchalant attitude. Even if you had just rationalised everything in your mind not too long ago, their blatant disregard for the lives of intelligent beings still took you off guard.
You watched as they advanced to the centre of the town, surrounding themselves in the town’s population. “Ghouls! Kill them!” You heard the townsfolk yell, prompting your confusion. Did the Ghoul know these people? Why were they yelling his name? Had he been there before? You wouldn’t be surprised. The humans told you they’d tracked Elena around all over the place, this could’ve been one of her stops before the Anthraxans cut her thread of fate.
The yelling didn’t last very long, silence engulfed you in the matter of seconds. You held your breath. You sighed with relief when that girl’s crying resumed. You dropped the forcefield and ran over to meet your group, opening the container that was placed in the middle. The container the girl had been stuck into by her fellow villagers. “My name is Jessie,” you heard her mutter to herself. The Ghoul shot you a sorrowful look but you were unsure why. His eyes told you he knew more than he was letting on. “My name is Jessie,” she repeated, her head shook frantically, growling in between. You pulled her out and hugged her, the Ghoul stepped up only to be held back by James.
“She’s gotta learn,” he mumbled to his friend.
“It’s nice to meet you, Jessie,” you smiled softly at her. “I’m Y/n.”
“My name is Jessie,” the girl repeated, her growls becoming more agitated, furrocious. That’s when she made a move to attack you but before the little, irradiated girl could strike, the older bounty hunter shot her in the head. Her blood splattered all over the left side of your face, blue tears started to stream down your cheeks.
“Why? Why would you do that?”
“She was gon’ kill ya, darlin’,” he answered you softly, a pitiful look on his face as he walked closer to you and tried to pull you into his arms. You backed away. “She was goin’ feral. This is what happens to people like us when we’re not properly taken care of. We go nuts and start attackin’ anyone and anything in our path.”
“We could have helped her then!” You screamed, enraged and overcome by your grief for the girl you never got to know. “We could’ve medicated her! Like I’ve been medicating you! She was sick!”
“That’s different, honey… She was too far gone. Once the process starts, ya can’t reverse it. What I did just now was a kindness, believe me. It ain’t right to let people live like that.”
“I warned you,” James chuckled. “Don’t expect everythang to be peaches n’ cream. This place ain’t been nice to nobody for two hundred years,” he looked up at the sky ruefully.
The older bounty hunter held his hand out to help you up but you didn’t take it. You pushed yourself off the sandy ground and wiped your blue tears off your cheeks, sniffling and pushing past him to get back to the dead irradiated human girl. You stroked her stringy hair, some of it fell out in your hand as you did. You felt Dimiil place his hand on your shoulder, “we need to go.” You ignored him and continued to cradle the girl in your arms. He shook you by the shoulder and forced you to get up by dragging you up himself. “Nebby. Let’s go.”
“Girly don’t wanna leave without burying the whole village, does she?” James cackled and shook his head, “we ain’t got time for all of that. Not unless you feel like adding more bodies to the pile. I got a feelin’ that ain’t all of ‘em. I suggest ya move whatcha momma gave ya.”
The Ghoul held his hand out to you again. You wiped your tears and sighed, letting him lead you back to his horse and letting him help you climb it. He climbed up right after and pulled out a handkerchief from his pocket. He turned to wipe the blood off your face. You stayed quiet as he did so. You didn’t want to look at him, not right now, at least. He then put his handkerchief back into his pocket and grabbed your hands from behind him, placing them on his waist to make sure you were holding onto something before the horse started moving again. “It’ll all get easier with time, sweetheart. You’ve just got…” he sighed, “a lot to learn.”
After having ridden for a while, you finally let your anger drop, your head along with it as you leaned on the Ghoul’s back. You found yourself crying again, “she wasn’t going to do anything…” you insisted.
The Ghoul turned his head to try and get a look at you, but he couldn’t see much aside from the top of your head that you’d buried into his back. “She was going to and I couldn’t let her try,” he answered patiently, looking ahead again as you all continued down the Standing Rock landscape.
“It’s getting dark,” Nikkand’r spoke, “let’s set up camp.”
“Alright. I don’t know about you fireflies, but I’m gettin’ me some shut eye tonight.” James climbed off his coffee coloured horse.
Nikk nodded, “you humans can get some sleep tonight. We’ll keep watch.” You started setting down two blankets on the ground for the ghouls to lay on. “You get some sleep too, sis.”
“I slept last night, though.”
“And you’ll sleep tonight too,” Dimiil cut in with a smile. “It’s not fun picking on you when you’re sad.”
“Look at the bright side, at least your face didn’t get chewed up. Just imagine, if she would’ve chewed your face off— your exposed teeth showing through your ripped up cheeks. Ooo—“ he shuddered obnoxiously. “That would’ve been gnarly.”
“Thanks, Nikk. I needed the visual.” You rolled your eyes.
“See? I made it fun… for myself. It’s all about perspective, Dim.”
“Praise be to Yevnologin for not making you any more insufferable than you already are,” the elder alien muttered, raising his arms in worship as he looked up to the stars.
“Is that a challenge I hear?” The youngest was never the religious type.
You scoffed, Dim kept ignoring his annoying brother’s attempts at jokes and turned to you. “Seriously, rest. Get yourself together. We’ve got a long journey ahead and can’t really afford for any one of us to ‘go nuts’ as those humans would say.”
“I’ll try to if I don’t end up having nightmares about the poor girl splitting my head open,” you glared at your younger brother who simply snickered in response. Boys are gross, you thought to yourself as you pulled a third blanket from one of your bags and set it on the floor. You laid down and stared up at the starry sky. You couldn’t fall asleep for the life of you. Between the thoughts that raced your mind and the cold nighttime air, you were struggling. No one prepared a fire that night. The aliens didn’t feel like it was necessary and thought it smarter to leave the world in darkness in order to avoid unnecessary attention. As a result, you shivered in silence but took advantage of the darkness to turn off your disguise. You listened as your brothers paced your little camp. They were close enough for you to hear their footsteps and chatter but far enough for it not to disturb anyone’s slumber.
“You chilly, doll?” You hear the Ghoul whisper to you from his spot on his blanket.
You ignored him, turning your body in a different direction so you wouldn’t face him. You didn’t need to answer, he could see you shivering and hear your teeth chattering. You heard him sigh and walk over to you. You felt him place his frayed coat over your body. “I could’ve grabbed another blanket for myself,” you grumbled to yourself. That’s when you heard some more shuffling and felt one of the blankets that were packed cover you. He didn’t mind the attitude, he was happy to hear something. Even if it was for much, he was grateful you hadn’t become mute.
“You warm now, sweetheart?” He asked you, not really expecting an answer. He made these gestures without the assumption of getting anything in return from you. He just wanted to make you comfortable in a world that ripped comfort away from its inhabitants. You ignored him again. It wasn’t that you didn’t appreciate his simple deeds, you were just upset that he wasn’t upset the way you were. That he could do these things and not bat an eye. That he’d killed the girl knowing you’d only wanted to help her. He walked in front of you and sat a foot away from your face. “You understand why I did what I did, right?”
“Good grief, I’m tryna sleep here, people!” James groaned, stirring in his slumber. The Ghoul sighed and bore daggers into his head with the look he shot the man.
You turned the other direction to indicate that you didn’t want to speak to the irradiated human. You heard him sigh. You don’t think he left that spot either since you didn’t hear him get up. You didn’t hear any shuffling or any footsteps to indicate that he had. Instead you heard him dig into one of his pockets and smelled the change in the air; he was smoking a cigarette. Those two men kept each other’s smoking habit alive much to your chagrin. Your olfactory receptors were not accustomed to that habit of his, you didn’t have those things back at home. The things people smoked on your planet were either scentless or flowery in scent. Of course, you could smell the charred undertones but that came with anything that was lit on fire. But that was rare. Only the puritans smoked the old fashioned way. Most chose to smoke through inhalers and the product within the inhalers didn’t burn, they boiled. Much like the way that the Ghoul had previously ingested his chems before you took over making them for him.
If you were honest, you couldn’t exactly pinpoint why you were upset with the Ghoul specifically. Aside from the fact that he had shot the little girl who sat in your lap, her blood spattering on your face. He had explained why he did what he did. Logically speaking, you understood his reasoning. Was it because you wanted nothing but to reach out to him for comfort? But you felt wrong for seeking his comfort? You wanted him? The heartless human who killed others like him without sparing a thought for them? That wasn’t true. If he were completely heartless, he wouldn’t have treated you the way he did. Or did he coddle you because he felt indebted to you for convincing your brothers not to take his life? Why did it matter to you? It’s not like you were compatible with his lifestyle. He was accustomed to the filth and toxicity of his environment and you weren’t. You grew up in a world where your life was stable and privileged; a place where laws and values still ruled it’s society. A world where you had a right to live. In this world, life was something one fought for and earned. And how much of a fool were you to get so attached to this stranger you’d only met weeks ago? You only knew him as Ghoul and you weren’t entirely sure that was even his real name.
You couldn’t sleep like this. Not with him watching you like he was afraid you’d fall apart if you fell out of sight. You didn’t take any pleasure in avoiding him. You considered him a friend, your rock. You were just confused. Why were you even angry in the first place? It wasn’t really new information that he killed people. You groaned, aggravated with yourself. You took the blanket that the Ghoul had placed on you and brought it over your shoulders as you got up and stomped off to where your brothers were. You needed some kind of a distraction.
“Aren’t you supposed to be asleep, sissy?” Nikkand’r called out once you reached his line of vision. You shrugged and told him you couldn’t sleep. He didn’t need to ask, he knew you too well not to know what was going on in that brain of yours.
But Dimiil beat him to the punch, “you’re being a hypocrite, you know that, right?” You crossed your arms, you didn’t argue with him. He was right and you knew it. “We’ve been killing people left and right and you haven’t once flipped out on us?”
You purse your lips and hesitated to make your admission but went ahead anyway, “it’s not like I haven’t been upset with you guys.”
“I know,” he paused, “and yet, here you are speaking to us instead of the man you’d rather be with.”
You scrunched up your face, “what the fuck are you on about?”
Nikk interrupted and spoke as crudely as he usually did. You feigned shock anyway, trying to pretend that what he said was unfathomable and wrong. “What he's saying is that you obviously have a crush on him and you’re sexually frustrated and making it everyone’s problem. He likes you too, you doof. Go and talk to the guy so we can stop hearing you cry about this shit.”
“You talk to Wanda with that potty mouth of yours?”
“Of course not. She’s my angel. You’re a gremlin. Now go. We gave you the night off so you could get your shit together.”
“Speaking of Wanda, how is she?”
“Stop trying to change the subject and go,” Dimiil cackled. You grumbled to yourself. They were right.
You walked back to where the rest of your party sat and slept. The two humans were in the same spots as when you’d initially walked off. James was snoring from his spot on the ground and the Ghoul was looking down at his feet as he smoked that horrible cigarette you hated so much.
“I suppose…” The Ghoul heard your soft voice ring in his mind as you sat back down on the dirty ground in front of him. He looked up at you, curious to hear what you were going to say. You didn’t look directly at him, opting to alternate your gaze between his hat, his bare hands, the nasty stick he held between his fingers. You weren’t bad at apologies but you weren’t particularly enthused about admitting you were wrong, especially about this specific topic. “That you were right to do what you did. I’m sorry for having been rude to you for it…”
“I’m sorry for upsettin’ you, darlin’,” he lamented sincerely, he reached out and placed his bare hand on your cheek. You leaned into its warmth.
“That poor girl…” You weren’t quite ready to let go of the grief you felt for the girl. But you were ready to forgive him for putting her out of her misery. Maybe it really was the most humane thing he could do for her.
“She was dead already,” he caressed your chin. He could feel the tears streaming down from your eyes and moved his hand up to wipe them away. You made a move to climb onto him and straddle his lap but he placed his hand on your shoulder and stopped you. He shook his head and you could feel your heart fall into the ground and shatter into a million pieces. “I respect you too much…” He could tell by the look on your face that you were devastated and he took no pleasure in it. You moved back and covered yourself again with that blanket, using it to comfort yourself from his rejection. You looked away, embarrassed and dejected. You didn’t notice him leaning over until he’d moved your head back in his direction by the chin. He slowly brought his lips closer to yours but he stopped short of actually kissing you. He resisted his urge to, though it was getting increasingly difficult by the second. “I just want to make sure you don’t do anything you’ll regret, sweetheart.” He whispered, his eyes darting back and forth between your violet irises and your plump lips.
“Why would I regret this?”
The Ghoul shot you a look of despair, he didn’t tell you what he was thinking. His insecurity was what held him back from touching, kissing and feeling you the way he wanted to. How could you look upon his scarred face and find any semblance of someone to love? It didn’t make sense to him. You snaked your hand to the back of his neck and moved up to catch his lips in a kiss. Your kiss had a sense of urgency to it, you pulled him down to bring him closer to you. He almost gave in to his desires and met you with the same sense of haste, he felt his pants get tighter; but then he slowed the kiss down, softened it. He pulled back in spite of his growing bulge, “sweetheart, please don’t take this the wrong way…” You slowly opened your eyes, afraid of what he was going to say. “It’s not that I wouldn’t love the pleasure of your company in… this kinda way. I’d just… like to do right by you. I don’t want to rush you into anything. And you deserve so much more than this dirty sand.” He stroked your hair and pecked your lips softly. He desperately wanted to feel them crash against his scarred lips again but maintained his self control.
The snoring stopped. “Uh-uh,” James protested loudly. “If y’all are gon’ get to fuckin’ each other like some fuckin’ rabbits in heat, I’m gon’ kindly ask you to either let me get in on the action or knock it off so I can get some sleep. I can hear y’all devourin’ each other from here, fuckin’ animals,” you heard him grumble.
The older ghoul rolled his eyes, “we weren’t doin’ none of that, ya degenerate. She’s a lady.” He yelled out and winked at you, letting his scarred mouth crack a smile at his own statement.
You leaned up to kiss him on the cheek, “thank you.” You whispered. He wasn’t sure how to take that. Were you grateful he’d stopped you from having sex with him? Were you grateful that he stopped you from making the worst mistake of your life? Were you embarrassed that you might have been linked with engaging in a sexual activity with him and grateful that he’d stopped the idea from spreading? It was almost as if you were listening to his thoughts because in that moment, you spoke again. “Thank you for always looking out for me.” You clarified and pecked his lips. You stood up and bent down to take his calloused hand in yours, leading him to the blanket that had been sprawled on the floor earlier. You laid back, using your elbow to prop yourself up and patted the spot next to you. “Will you at least keep me warm, Ghoulie?”
How could he resist you? He shook his head and his worries away and kept that lopsided smile on his face as he climbed into the spot you’d cleared for him. He wrapped his arms around you and you did the same, laying your head against his chest. “Did you know those people?”
“Hm?” He had already started falling asleep when you blindsided him with your question. “What do you mean?”
“Well, I heard those villagers screaming your name, I was wondering if you’d met them before.”
The old ghoul snorted, “no, sweetheart. I’ve never met ‘em.”
“Then how did they know who you were?”
“Whatchu mean, sweetheart?”
“They were yelling your name…” You repeated.
Then it clicked for him, for some reason, it hadn’t the first time. “My real name ain’t Ghoul,” he chuckled softly. He then sighed, the smile falling off his face. “Ghouls are… well, what I am.”
“Irradiated humans?”
“In a sense, yes.”
“Ah…” you mumbled, finally drawing the connections in your mind. “Then what’s your real name?”
He kissed your forehead, “you can keep calling me Ghoul for now.” You pouted but you weren’t going to keep pushing the subject. Clearly, he didn’t want you to know. You weren’t sure why. A name was a name, it wouldn’t do him any harm to tell you who he was but that wasn’t your decision to make. You shuffled in your space a bit to get more comfortable, your index finger traced circles around his chest as you found yourself drifting into sleep. He spent the next few minutes, wrestling with his thoughts. Debating with himself why he felt the need to keep that part of himself hidden when he wanted nothing but to share himself with you. It wasn’t like he was trying to erase his past—no, he wanted to remember it. No matter how painful it was, he needed to remember who he was. It was part of the reason he was able to maintain a friendship with James. He realised his hesitance was futile. He wanted to build something honest with you and he needed to be honest to do that. He cleared his throat and just as he was about to speak, he heard a faint whimper escape your lips. You had already fallen asleep. Then a question popped into his head that tanked his mood: what was the point if you were just going to leave him anyway? It’s not like he’d be able to convince you to stay, would he? He sighed. Maybe he’d just go along with this and try to enjoy your company anyway.
The next morning, you woke to the harsh sun beating down your face once again. You stirred in your sleep as you were pulled out of your slumber by the merciless star. You didn’t want to get up, you wanted to sleep a bit longer. You had gotten plenty of sleep but you still felt like you could use some more. The world was heating up around you and the layers of fabric that covered you made the heat unbearable. You threw your half of the blanket off and sat up. The human’s eyes snapped open as soon as you did that, immediately noticing the absence of your touch. He watched you adjust to your environment and saw you look down at him. He gave you his lopsided grin. You smiled back at him softly.
“Rise and shine, motherfuckers,” Nikk’s voice boomed, loud music blasted from seemingly nowhere. He danced around your forms like he was performing some kind of a ritual. James groaned and yelled at your brother to turn that goddamn noise off and sat up, as did the Ghoul. The younger ghoul grabbed a rock and threw it at the obnoxious alien. Unfortunately for the human, he missed. The younger human told him once again to turn it off so they wouldn’t attract any Dakotan wildlife to the group. The alien assured him no one could hear his noise but them. Much to their chagrin, the music kept blasting and the alien continued dancing. James muttered something about this being some kind of CIA torture technique. He piped down when Nikk then started to throw random chunks of meat at the two ghouls that they caught midair with ease. It became apparent to them that your brothers had gone back to the village and cut up the dead bodies at some point in the night to feed the humans. Nikkand’r wasn’t big on sharing his food and was tired of the ghouls stealing his chips. Did he have any confidence they’d keep their calloused fingers off his snack stash? No. But he figured minimising their appetite would help.
“What’s got you in such a good mood?” You looked him up and down judgmentally. You were still grouchy from having just woken up; you weren’t much of a morning person. You definitely weren’t in the mood for the ruckus this early in the day.
Your younger brother shrugged, “maybe the sweet taste of violence has rejuvenated me!”
“Where’s Dim? He’s given you way too much creative freedom.”
“Here, just had to walk Marge.” Dimiil came back into view with his pet wolf by his side.
“Can’t find time for a girlfriend but he makes time for a dog,” Nikk crossed his arms and leaned on his left foot.
The ghouls were only partly invested in the conversation at this point. They were more interested in devouring the tasty pieces of bright red meat that laid in their laps.
“That’s what happens when you don’t listen to your sister. You end up fumbling a pretty girl and become old and alone with ninety dogs.” You teased.
“For your information, Jaina and I were gonna go on our third date before we got stuck in this shithole—“
“This is our shithole, thank you very much. I’m very proud of it, actually,” the Ghoul jested as he chewed on the raw meat, waving the chunk of meat around as he spoke. He liked to talk with his hands. Human meat was a delicacy, —or so he convinced himself— it didn’t need to be cooked or seasoned, in his opinion, at least. But he wasn’t in the mood to eat the skin, so he pulled it off before taking another bite.
Dimiil chuckled, “no offence.”
“Offence has been taken,” James added, speaking with his mouth full. You marvelled at him, it was a wonder the food didn’t spill out from the exposed parts of the man’s cheeks.
The look of surprise on Nikk’s face was priceless, but he wasn’t paying attention to what had captured your eyes. “What? Why didn’t you say anything? This whole time we thought you pussied out and didn’t even try calling her—“
“Gentlemen don’t kiss and tell.”
“That is the lamest thing I have ever heard come out of that crusty ass mouth of yours—“
“And we’ve heard you say your fair share of corny shit, dude,” you cut in as you and Nikk laughed hysterically, high fiving each other. He high-fived you and mumbled something about being happy you were back. You rolled your eyes at him.
“Oh, like you’re one to talk, Y/n.”
“Ohhhhhh shit,” Nikk put his hand to his mouth. “It’s a showdown,” he danced to the annoying music he played.
“Seriously, are you on something right now?” You side eyed the alien.
“Hey, don’t take your anger out on me, take it to the source! Are you just gonna let him talk to you like that?” The youngest instigated, howling with laughter. His music still blared in your minds.
You saw a bright white ray of light shoot out and pushed your brother to the ground. As a result of having pushed him down, a strand of your hair was cut by the ray of light as it passed. The Ghoul raised his bald eyebrow in confusion, whipping his gun out in an instant. Dimiil noticed another light fly toward him and immediately brought his wrist up so he could use his watch to put up the forcefield that had protected you on and off in the past. Your antennas emitted a blue light. “It’s them, isn’t it?” He said to no one in particular. He was frightened. The three of you were, you knew what you were up against.
The two humans weren’t necessarily as frightened, maybe it was because they were confident in their ability to fight for their survival. Or maybe it was because they were simply ignorant to their new enemy. In any case, no one answered the eldest alien, too focused on getting their own weapons ready. Not that they particularly needed to, he was just trying to alleviate his mind of the stress caused by their impending doom.
The three aliens looked at each other. You mouthed some words at your brothers, the Ghoul couldn’t make out what you were saying, but your intended audience seemed to understand you perfectly fine. He watched as the three of you ran in the direction of the light bullets. He tried to follow but found that he and his friend were trapped by the invisible barrier.

random au thoughts i have while playing video games part 1.
Some Stardew Valley Rise au future Donatello and Farmer reader thoughts I had while playing Stardew Valley.
gonna make a part to of some fluff headcanons soon!
------------------------------------------------------------------------
imagining future Donatello working as a mechanic in town while working part-time at the local library and museum. he enjoys his work, the peace Pelican Town brings him. loving the joy he finds in his hobbies and his work there.
he has won the fall fair competition for best invention at least ten times in a row (and he is incredibly smug about it)
farmer reader has recently gotten settled into their farm. happily tending to their crops and the plants they keep in the greenhouse they repaired. happily giving each of the cows, goats, chickens and ducks their morning/afternoon cuddles after breakfast.
they come into town to get ingredients to make some nice blueberry muffins for lunch or to go to the local library for some good books to read by the fire at the end of a long day with their trusty fluffy companion by their side.
eventually, right after they accidentally break their tractor, they decide to pay a visit to the local mechanic. Donatello.
when they visit Donnie is in the middle of working on a more advanced telescope to go stargazing with.
when he looks up he spots reader looking at the inventions displayed around his shop. watching the way their eyes sparkle as they gaze at the details he's put into his work or how they murmur to themselves about how incredible the craftsmanship is.
he doesn't know why, nor does he admit it at first, but he can't help but feel this fluttering in his heart. this warmth blooming within his chest he can't quite place.
he brushes it off for now and just calls reader over to take a look at the part that got broken off their tractor.
reader greets him with a warm friendly smile (even more friendly than the ones the people of Pelican town would give oh my god-) as they sit the part on the counter. shyly rubbing the back of their neck as they explain the situation.
the whole time he is fixing the part, reader is watching and listening to everything he has to say. watching the way his hands skillfully shaped the metal and how he rambled happily about the condition the part was despite the damage.
it makes reader smile. a softer smile. one of admiration.
even when the part is finished, reader sticks around for a little while longer. asking If he'd like any help moving some things around or asking questions about all the inventions he's made.
normally this would annoy him. After all, he has to work. he has to make sure things get done properly. yet this time...he isn't. In fact, he welcomes it.
eventually reader has to leave, but that doesn't stop them from visiting him each day.
every time they always bring him things fresh from their farm. a basket of fresh veggies from their garden, a knitted scarf they made themselves and dyed purple, homemade jams & meals for him etc.
Donnie is flustered at first but of course, returns the favor. giving readers farm new sprinklers that help with watering and keeping their plants healthy, and a belt that has multiple pockets that can keep their tools organized-heck he even makes a device that reader can use to call him to get them out of the mine.
with each gift. with each visit. each conversation-that fluttering only grows stronger within his heart.
until one night it hits him.
he's in love.
it all makes sense to him now. how they both would shy from each other's gaze when their hands brushed together. how their faces would flush when Donnie would carry Reader out of the mines to Harvey in town, the way they would glance at each other softly while they sat on readers front porch watching the sunset-
yep. yep. yep-hes in love.
and his brain is absolutely spinning at the idea of being able to...confess his feelings to reader.
the next morning, or rather around lunchtime-reader finds a lovely written letter from Donnie. asking them to come meet him in the mountains near the train station at around seven or eight.
reader of course, can't help but feel their own heart racing when they finish reading and it. managing to finish all their work by the time they make their way over to the designated meeting spot.
He's waiting there of course. this soft but nervous smile on his face. dressed in his best yet comfortable clothes wearing the scarf they gave him and standing next to the telescope he'd been working on since the day he met them.
most of the night is spent gazing at the stars. rambling on about things until they're both smiling brightly.
and when everything goes quiet. they just look at each other beneath the moonlight. this softness in the air…before Donnie takes a deep breath and just says what's on his mind.
holding reader's face in his hands as he confesses how they make his heart soar with their lovely smile. how their laugh makes his cheeks burn and the warmth of their lovely personality brings him a joy he hadn't felt in years he considers them to be his starlight. his other half, his friend, and his inspiration all at the same time.
reader is just floored-yet their heart is soaring at his words.
donatello is, of course, nervous at first-did he mess it up? was it too much? did he over plan this? was it cheesy? gosh he messed up-
it isn't until he sees this soft yet cheerful smile on their face and how their hands squeeze that he relaxes.
reader just slowly tips their sun hat up, gently tracing hearts on his hands as a quick heads up to him before they lean in for a soft kiss. murmuring softly, "If I'm your starlight, then you must be my moon..right?"
he had never wrapped his arms around reader so fast. He is so so happy. They are both laughing. peppering kisses across each other's faces. trying not to cry as they look into each other's eyes.
the telescope he put so much care and work into reflecting both farmer and inventor happily cuddled up side by side. moonlight and starlight shining down upon them.

listen it's very. even when playing gale's romance I am guaranteed several solid cutscenes of Astarion talking about his life, his perceptions of things, his ideas; the bite scene, the after that, the talking about your companions blood, the proposition, all the little conversations about being a vampire + how to become a vampire + what life was like that have several dialogue options. whereas these same "stock" conversations with the other companions tend to have ONE, maybe two dialogues with choices following if that much (for example, with Karlach it tends to be 1. ask question 2. she answers and it ends). there's a solid foundation of pacing and work put into astarion's storyline that even without his romance, his presence WILL be felt unless you just straight up never speak to him. which is to say, that THAT writing is really good! but if they couldn't uphold that same standard of effort and time across the board and ensure all the companions have some measure of equality, theeeeeen... something shouldve been done there to make sure it was at least somewhat equal. it also sucks that gale/wyll/lae'zel/shadowheart were all received ""poorly"" in contrast to astarion during EA (or received harsher critique anyways). I still believe there was a lot of solid character work and richness to their EA personalities that I dont know totally carried over in rewrites--decreasing the amount of conflict, lessening the "flaws" of these characters--contrary to what larian says about staying true to their core ideas in some places. so it sucks that you can see how with that effort and focus, astarion's storyline really is really well done for the kind of game that it is, and no one is saying bg3 is wanting for stuff to do, but there is a clear gap in effort and time put into the other companions when they absolutely deserved just as much time and effort as astarion, and the thing is. the writer confirmed it! confirmed that more time was put into him. like cmon man

I think i'm at the point where the only bg3 character that I actually dislike is Mizora (used to hate Lae'zel and think Shadowheart and Wyll were boring, have seen the light since)
And even her i think i could come to like if the game actually gave her some proper shit?? Or the community? She sucks and is horrible to a character i really like but then again, so are Cazador and Gortash and i love them
Would probably feel differently if we had Cazador seductively holding Astarion on the main fucking promo poster. Or if we could never properly tell him to fuck off. Or if he found a way to slime himself into the camp and stand right next to Astarion and try to fuck you just to fuck with the camp's relationships. And then never get any real shit for it!!
I love horrible characters because they're horrible but man does there need to be some way for the game to at least acknowledge that! I need Wyll to be able to tell her to fuck off and then stab her or something, something

Michael Craze pops up as Vince Kelly, a teenage runaway from a borstal centre, in Gideon's Way: Boy With Gun (1.23, ITC, 1966)
#fave spotting#michael craze#ben jackson#doctor who#gideon's way#1966#boy with gun#itc#a relatively rare fave spotting! outside of his DW work‚ Mike didn't make a huge amount of appearances in cult tv‚ at least not many that#survive or are easily seen; he'd previously starred in Target Luna‚ a completely lost serial‚ but didn't return when the show carried on as#Pathfinders in Space (oddly‚ perhaps because of a change of director‚ every single returning character was recast) and beyond#there were also episodes of Dixon pf Dock Green and Armchair Theatre but these are also in all likelihood lost tv; others‚ like an ep of#Hammer's sci fi anthology Journey to the Unknown‚ are frustratingly unavailable to the average viewer (I was really hoping Network would#do something with JttU after they announced an agreement with Hammer but alas it wasn't to be)#mike would have been about 22 when filming this ep (around May '65) but was still largely playing juvenile parts as here#(his age isn't given but as a borstal runaway he's clearly intended to be a teen); this aired in feb or march '66 in most regions‚ by which#time he had presumably been cast in DW (or very near to it; he'd debut in The War Machines in June of that year)#DW would act as a sort of transition for Craze from youth parts into adult roles (i mean Ben's own age is debatable but I'd say he's surely#meant to be at least 18?). there'd be some more guest spots and a few horror films to come (he was a regular collaborator with Norman#J. Warren) but he doesn't pop up with the regularity of many other Who companions so this was a lovely little surprise (zero memory of him#being in it from when i first watched years ago)

if graham thought the used to be a man thing was just joking and like 5 minutes earlier she said she used to live in the outback for 123 years, he also definitely doesnt have ANY idea how old she is does he
#oh the fun they'll have in support group trying to figure out the doctor's age#graham sitting there just staring for the first 10 minutes like 'oh IMMORTAL immortal. like immortal? like. okay. uh huh. thats. okay.'#thats gotta rewrite like at least half your idea of a person right#im not convinced he or ryan really have an idea of what regeneration means#i think yaz a little more#but not like. really#and yaz was also so taken aback meeting ace and tegan like#other companions get that 'oh youve had lots of people like me' usually kinda early on#get their little jealousy moment#but they NEVER had that#like meeting all these old companions first already must be a bit of a........like rearrangement in your brain#like 'oh but if youre me. and you did this 40 YEARS ago. then uhhhh. the doctor is older than she looks'#and then someone drops a 'yeah when i knew them they said they were 700' and youre OH. OKAY.#like you thought you were travelling with just sort of a weird fucked up guy but then it turns out it's a weird fucked up guy#who has been doing this for longer than your country exists#12 voice: im old enough to be your messiah#fgkjghjkgh#like thats your bud! dfgkjhgjk thats just your fucked up little pal who cant drive what do you mEAN TWO THOUSAND#two THOUSAND years and you still drive THIS badly???#i hope clara comes to the support group some time#she could blow at least the fam's minds a little i think#she knew the last one!#she can provide CONTEXT#between missy and 12 she can provide some GREAT context#also bill i think bill + yaz would be FUN#like hoo boy#bill can fill them in on the master too#feel like missy definitely gets wind of it 'ive been up and down your timeline' and drops by. a couple of times#trying to pass herself off as a companion#doesnt work for super long mostly bc shes just there to Cause Problems On Purpose but it does work for a Bit

the thing about doctor/river that i don’t ship is that i just think river suffers from having her entire character so intrinsically tied to the doctor that she lacks any real depth because we never spend enough time to see her outside of Sexy Girlboss!
