Maybe a 3? Like, I don't hate it but I'm not too fond of it either. I enjoy reading what I have written more often than not and I like putting [GERMAN WORD] or [TBD - WRITE SMTH ABOUT XY] ever so often while writing, but I don't enjoy changing the story afterwards much. I rarely change big things, usually only a scene or two and a few expressions. That said, I have to read every scene like 15 times before posting to scour for errors - and I am certain I am missing so many anyway.

Okay, let's go with fugitive Doctor/River. (Did you expect this by any chance? ;) )

People have been speculating that she is talking about 13, which I get, definitely. But I want to argue that it is the superior interpretation that she would be talking about the fugitive Doctor (or another incarnation the Doctor has forgotten about but where would be the fun in that?). For the following reasons:
Vibes. This is the important point. River says 12 reminds her of the wife, so they have to be alike-ish. And I feel like 12 and the fugitive Doctor have a certain similarity in their demeanour. I think a big thing is how they hold themselves upright, actually, but also the whole Danny calling 12 an officer when the fugitive Doctor actually is one. Also the underlying kindness both of them possess and the end-life-crisis. They both lose all of their companions (Clara, Bill and Nardole vs Karvanista, Gat and Lee - one lives on but they can never see them again/forget about them, the other two die (or that's what they believe at least) and it is their fault) and I would argue they both are thinking about not regenerating this time. (I reckon the fugitive Doctor does not have a choice though.)
Loss. See the last point. The Doctor loses everything in fotj. Give her her wife, at least, please. Let River bring her some love and companionship <3 13 loses a lot as well but she's got Yaz. Which also leads us to:
Thasmin. Like, you know, if River had been tangibly in the 13th Doctor's life in any way, thasmin would have kissed. 100%. They didn't, so River didn't marry 13, simple as that.
Timelines. River does not know about more faces of the Doctor and well, 13 is older than 12. Of course, she could lie to her and yes, River gets married a little carelessly, so she might have married some John Smith!13. But if she met the fugitive Doctor - who seems very different from the timelord she knows and has no recollection of the Doctor's life, it would be easy for her to draw the conclusion that the Doctor is just some other person going by that name. And the fugitive Doctor would forget about her, of course. There's also a good possibility, River isn't actually married to the Doctor but to Ruth.
Time, Doctor's side. Honestly, 13 just doesn't have enough time to get married to River. Am I still hoping we will get those two on screen (or audio) together? Of course! But 13 is kinda busy, most of the time we either see her with the fam (who don't know River, see lotsd) or very occupied with stuff (like apocalypses or prison).
So, yeah, headcanon: The fugitive Doctor is River's second wife.
(The first is Cleopatra, right? Like Idk if there is canon confirmation but it feels true.)

2. Strax fairytale!! written by you :)
Strax as a fairytale protagonist is SUCH an inspired idea and I am hoping very much that you will get round to it some day. But I can't really tell you anything about that that you don't know better yourself.
Or, maybe, I can: I have become kinda enarmoured with the 'Strax as the faithful Johannes' idea, I have always adored that tale, mainly for the tragedy and extremely strong friendship theme. Like, it is so clear that the king's most important relationship is his friendship to his servant. The princess is lovely but they barely know each other, yet. And I think there is SO much potential to improve the abduction scene and the ending. So, yeah, I have been turning that around in my head a bit.
But no matter which tale you will pick, if you ever write a fic for him, I am sure I will absolutely love it!

You remember that genius powerpoint Pine made, I assume? Wouldn't it be spectacular if someone wrote that as a fic for me to read? I would choose Pine as the author because she understands the vision best, of course. But, like, I am so grateful already that the powerpoint exists for me to read and dream about :)

So, I actually enjoyed the 60th anniversary (at least wild blue yonder, that much very much had a premise of my type of dw ep) but I still believe we could have done better than bringing back dt for the umpteenth time. (Listen, he is lovely, don't get me wrong, and I liked '14' too, but just - )
I have written a post about why I think making the fugitive Doctor's face return would have been a more interesting choice and I would still love to read it as a fic.
I don't really care whether it would be a simple retelling of the three eps with her instead of tenteen or a completely different tale. I WOULD like to see Donna though (because can you imagine?? Also that scene where Donna just acts like she knows the Doctor all of a sudden? When the Doctor doesn't even really know herself but feels like she should?) and if we could spring for some Karvanista on top, that'd be ace <3
I would give this one to DiscipleOfBrad because I trust them to write a convincing fugitive Doctor. I really enjoyed her in The Cul-de-Sac (which btw I can highly recommend if you'd like some soft thasmin and an intriguing premise. There is a heavy side of whouffaldi, though, I'm not sure whether that is your thing?).

I feel like it always helps me to get myself into a 'I can't do anything else now anyway' situation? That's why trainrides are so good for writing. I just need to be in a situation where I can't take care of more pressing matters, so it won't feel overwhelming if I don't take care of them?
Like, I will rather scroll tumblr than work on my thesis but I won't write. But if I am away from wifi, I might not be able to work on the thesis anyway, so I will easier find the peace of mind (and hence energy and creativity) to write?
Idk maybe that's just me. Maybe it's not working at all either. Honestly, I don't quite know where energy, creativity or motivation to write come from. They just knock and then they're there.
🏜️What's your favourite type of comment to receive on your work?
Well, obviously, I adore long comments, who doesn't? But just saying 'long' feels both greedy and like cheating, so let's talk content.
I think, what excites me most in a comment is when I can sense the enthousiasm? It doesn't necessarily have to be for the content of my fic, I had someone write 'YOU MADE A CROSSOVER FOR THESE TWO FANDOMS?? THEY'RE MY FAVOURITE!!" and it made me smile for a day. Just, I write those things because I love the characters and themes and if someone shows that they share this passion? That's community, that's what we're searching for, isn't it?
But also I got a comment today that was just a bunch of predictions about the next chapter of my current fic and that felt amazing! Generally, when people notice things or I feel they have been paying attention, that is SO GOOD. That's probably also why we love long comments. I mean, generally, every second you spend reading the comment is gold, so the longer the comment the more seconds there are, but also a long comment will usually go into detail. Make predictions. Notice things. Talk about how they perceive the characters and why something made sense/surprised them. Quote your fic back to you. And like, all of that is so much fun. It's like reading your story again, remembering why you wrote it. It's the best feeling in the world.

I don't 😭 The place where I live doesn't allow pets and besides, I am away a lot and not planning on staying in this town much longer anyway. So, yeah, it'd be difficult to have a pet. I really, really want to though. Preferably a cat but I'd be so happy with a dog as well. Or a turtle? Or bunny? Or a lizard? I think you could make me happy with almost any mammal and many types of reptiles <3 (not much into insects or fish though. And I feel weird about birds in cages.)

Go read Righting Reflex by the asker please, it is a wonderful fic about the Thirteenth Doctor and her fam, and a cat that mysteriously shows up. Perhaps there is more to the cat (who seems very insistent on getting Yaz and the Doctor to spend more time together) than meets the eye...
And another would be Communication is the basis of a healthy relationship by casualscribbler who I'd also consider a friend (actually everyone who loves Jenny and Vastra is automatically my friend I don't make the rules). It's a beautiful fic about Jenny and Vastra and them growing closer together. Said author has also some other brilliant works, some of which are rather on the angsty side (and made me cry a lot fhdjgskfdg), but I love them dearly.

Uhhhh, okay. So, one, I finally got to meet with a therapist about my chronic pain and she gave me addresses to a few places for stuff I got going on (I cried a lot but some of that crying really just needed to get out)
I passed an exam I worried about a lot, andddddd three, I kinda fell into a hyperfixation on the PGSM 2003 live action series and am LIVING bc nine years ago my parents claimed Sailor Moon would just be a short phase and now it's STILL THERE >:D

Generally definitely dislike, I'm autistic and like things to be fairly predictable because I don't know how to spontaneously react to a lot of stuff. (I like to surprise other people who DO like surprises tho)

okay so i’m still scribbling down ideas and i’m kinda stoned and idk if i’ll ever manage to write this cos i have never rlly written anything like this (literally anything i’ve never written for one of these fandoms i’ve never finished a multi chap plotted fic i’ve never written an in-depth au like idk if i even could do this) but the other day my brain decided WOULDN’T IT BE COOL if Kingsman and UNIT were the same people. (and honestly MIB: International a bit too) but like. Kingsman Doctor Who AU. that’s mostly focused on osgate.
for whatever reason, the code name Arthur isn’t used and is instead replaced with The Doctor. why, idk. there doesn’t need to be a reason. just, when the doctor, the brig, and liz shaw all started this, he decided his code name was The Doctor and it’s been that way since
also the plot was: three different stories, spanning a couple different time periods.
first story (kingsman: the secret service) is very much just stolen ideas from what i know of the Cyber-Reality Big Finish stories. which admittedly about 80% of that (i did start listening to them. finally) is because of @technicallywrite’s fanfic 🫡 but i promise i am doing my research. but anyway like that cyber program instead of valentine’s program??? osgood thinking kate’s dead for like half the story adds some fun to it and i could add kate’s pov w whatever’s happening to her OR i could just. go off from Kingsman and do it closer to Big Finish and just call it good.
ideally: harry = kate; eggsy = osgood; arthur = 12th doctor; merlin = river
considering replacing jakobi!master w gomez!master for some extra fun? like it just could be fun is all.
also: focus is osgate but there is background stuff going on. 12/River/Missy ???? do some fun little twists get them all together i think they deserve it. also other knights/agents would be (possibly.) amy, rory, clara, rose, yaz, donna, martha, bill, sam, josh, gwen, ianto, maybe jack? not as important characters literally just names to fill in blanks. i have code names for them too just in case it’s needed as well as ships cos background ships r always so fun
also was thinking abt the possibility of: sarah jane is the lancelot being replaced. i don’t wanna kill her either but. it adds some fun messy stuff for kate cos i am always a sarah jane/kate truther but also establishing it all could be messy
also was considering just having sarah jane have been a past agent that kate’s father knew (will get into family history in a sec) and kate got to occasionally hear some stories about her OR sarah jane is kate’s aunt (basically they knew each other but sarah jane is gone now and kate struggles with that a bit)
cos kate’s dad was obviously part of Kingsman which is how Kate got recruited- sorta. (here is why i want sarah jane to be. important and not related to kate but i can’t change some of it) cos she technically still had to be recruited but sarah jane kept an eye on kate while she was in military training and actually recruited her having not realised who she was until after she had already decided
which is about to be what happens here cos. osgood is a rlly fucking good hacker and they can hack into p much any database okay so kingsman has been keeping an eye on them- not cos they’re worried that osgood will reveal them, just cos they kinda think she’s brilliant- and kate actually ends up running into them at a bar. where idk what but some kinda relatively easy to defeat alien shows up right and kate has to get rid of it and suddenly there’s a lot going on but kate is asking osgood to come to kingsman with her
and basically what osgood had been doing is kinda like. non-violent the beekeeper type shit like hacking elon musk’s bank account to send a billion dollars to palestine or some shit like just trying to improve the world in whatever ways right
and then osgood’s ends up joining kingsman (sorry but skip the ‘roxy beats eggsy’ plot line cos even tho i love roxy i don’t have time to figure out how to fit weird sexism into this especially cos not one man has actually been a part of this story yet) and proceeds to get sucked into the Cyber-Reality storyline
lowkey tho a) i need to learn how to write smut because i need them to hook up at least once probably pre-cyber like. anything. like they r attracted to each other. maybe that’s how kate learns about them in the first place is they hook up and osgood tells kate what they do with their life and kate decides to look into her work
(just occurred to me this may not be obvious but she/they osgood. possibly they/then doctor too cos i like fucking around w characters’ pronouns)
but anyway yeah i actually lowkey want the story to end with them not quite having figured themselves out but knowing they’re gonna do it together (😏)
but def positive ending cos i have not thought out Kingsman: The Golden Circle yet
i have figured out origins but not entirely how to make it follow a plot line yet but there’s a strong chance of it involving the third doctor, liz shaw, and the brigadier and possibly autons. liz = galahad; brig = merlin. and obviously it’ll have threebrig. but it’s a separate story i’ve barely thought about
also figuring out how to make the time jump from three to twelve but also still having time in there for kate to come around? it’s gonna be interesting for sure
this is so much rambling j am very sorry and i’m also very tired and i definitely could do better hashing this out and i’m working on doing better hashing this out i just also needed to ramble at someone. lol

started ranting about doctor who to my gf and realized i actually have a lot of opinions (which start off summarizing hbomberguy's takes from the sherlock video but it was kind of a revelation for me) so if u want to hear them ive copypasted and edited them a bit for u guys under the cut <3
so like to set up how bad steven moffat is he explains why doctor who was so bad when moffat was the showrunner in a way ive been trying to articulate for years
basically he's a decent writer who was good at individual episodes that make reference to the doctors history but when it came to actually writing that history and the big events that would become the doctor's history he sucks so so so badly
like in the empty child he was amazing, he prioritized the story of the episode while giving the doctor an air of mystery and references a long and complicated backstory without compromising any charm or humor
but in the very first episode where he had reins on the entire show and its storylines he resorted to just a monologue from the doctor about how cool and special he is and that trend continued the whole time he was in charge. the entire universe suddenly revolved around the doctor
like. chibnall was clearly trying to subvert that by only using brand new aliens during his first season and having extra companions (three of them jesus christ) but he didn't address the heart of the problem and somehow made it even worse. the charm of the doctor was always that they were just a traveler bouncing around the universe and helping people or having fun or whatever
and of course there was always the tragic backstory and the genocide and being the last of his kind and all that but that always came second to the humans he loved!! the first time the master came back in tennant's run it was martha and her family and jack that saved him!! and chibnall tried to do that with yaz but it just didnt feel as impactful bc of how overpowering the master & timeless child plots were (dont even get me started on the timeless child shit retconning the entire history of the show to make the doctor quite literally the most important being in the universe)
moffat on the other hand went all over the place with it and wrote in intergalactic cults deadset on killing the doctor and when he did try to make companions special and important he completely took away their agency in the process
to me clara was a decent companion and had some great moments for me until she turned out to be not real or a metaphor or forgotten or dead or somehow retconned into existing since the show started in 1963 it was all so WEIRD and misses the point of making a companion important. it made her so important she lost her humanity imo
and then there was bill who also died and was mutilated beyond recognition and it just makes me think about how rtd never did that to companions. they were special not because of time magic or destiny or fucked up deaths but because they were just humans. with families. martha got to go back to her family. donna had to forget but she was happy in the end. rose was supposed to live out her life in the parallel universe with her own mortal doctor, and she did, but moffat STILL found a way to bring her back as a metaphor because his desire to deconstruct female companions into concepts and tragedies was just too strong
that's not even getting into what he did to river. or amy...
none of this is to say rtd is perfect of course, i'm really nervous to see how he deals with everything that's been thrown at the show in the past couple decades but considering he plans on staying for a while i really hope he manages to put a better twist on all of it. honestly the thing im most curious about is the special effects.. the show has been leaving very heavily on cg lately but chibnall did introduce a few decent practical effects and puppets so i hope rtd pushes for more of that. im getting off topic tho

#the thing about doctor who is that it's still doctor who even when it's bad. which presents a dilemma to every new showrunner#in that they have to find a way to either incorporate the previous canon into their canon or find a way to discard it. in canon#how funny would it be if rtd started and immediately said all the timeless child bs was a fever dream

Ruby would be the new youngest at 18, but by the time the show actually starts she and her character may be older, 19 seems like a reasonable assumption for how old her character will be.

My analysis here isn't to make a big point, or call any fans out or pass judgement on whatever, it's just to look at certain patterns that I see here and possible reasons for them as an exercise in examining a person's biases and perceptions. The point is to be aware of these biases, not say that anyone with a bias is evil or stupid or whatever.
With a 12 year age difference, Ruby15 would be the 7th biggest overall age difference and the 3rd biggest romantic age difference if their relationship were to be romantic
So yes, she is young, and she should not have any romantic relationship with/interest in the doctor, BUT, she will probably be the same age as Rose and Yaz were and everyone was fine with those, I have seen ppl talk about how Rose was too young, but I haven't seen many ppl complain that Yaz met the doctor at 19 and is too young for it. So idk why everyone now is like "shes so young she better not be a romantic interest". Well, actually, I'm confident it's a gender thing but whatever.
Lots of ppl did think the Billie Piper/Christopher Eccleston age difference (22 and 40) was weird, but Ncuti and Millie are closer in age than them. PLUS, Matt Smith and Alex Kingston (26 and 45) were further apart by a year and I've literally never seen a single person say that it was weird that they played romantic interests or that Matt was too young, despite only being like 4 years older than Billie was.
My discussion of gender here, yes the doctor is non binary, but they are perceived by a large number of the public and fandom as the gender they present as and the gender biases still apply to the actors and the gender the doctor is presenting as. So I'm discussing men and women for the purposes of this analysis. I'm also discussing the age the doctor "presents" as (referred to as p-age), meaning, the age of the actor, or about how old I think a random person would assume they are by looking at them.
Actual Ages: 9 (40), 10 (35), 11 (26), 12 (55), 13 (36), 15 (30)
Perceived Age Range: 9 (35-45), 10 (25-40), 11 (24-35), 12 (50-70), 13 (30-40)
Also, I'm speaking in general trends and assumptions, obviously there are exceptions to such things.
Rose was perceived as younger than Yaz and Ryan seemed to be, both in universe and in the fandom. Rose was referred to as a child frequently, her relationship with her mother emphasized her age, and it was shown to be odd that she was traveling with a 40 year old man, but Jodie was only 4 years younger than him. 9 and 13 presented in a similar age range and never once was the age difference brought up in regard to Yaz or Ryan. Graham was often treated as way older than the group despite being only a bit further from the doctors p-age than Ryan/Yaz.
Part of this could be gender, but, David Tennant was about the same age as Jodie and they were perceived very similarly to each other age-wise in universe, generally younger but still established (out of their 20s) adults. So it's probably more likely Christopher Eccleston was perceived as older, both due to physical appearance and character behavior. 9 acted more serious and severe and just older than 10 or 13. 9 and 12 are the only two who acted like old ppl consistently, 10, 11, and 13 acted much more youthful, which lines up with the ages of the actors.
Both 10 and 13 were the same age (35 and 36), although I think 13 was often perceived as younger than 10 because she was a woman. Some would argue she acted younger/less mature, but I think those traits were also displayed by 10, but 13 was perceived differently bc of the unconscious infantilization of women. There were some parts where she seemed to act younger, more similar to 11 (talking about cookies, easily distracted "puppy behavior") but, even then, she may have been encouraged to act like that because cast/crew perceived her as younger bc of her gender.
Speaking of "similar to 11", 11 was the youngest looking, but although a lot of the time he acted goofy and less mature, Matt played the "timeless being with a young face" very well, and despite his youth he did an amazing job at acting weary and wise, he really felt, at least to me, older than 10 even tho he was like ten years younger than tennant was.
The traits that I think made people perceive the doctor's true ancient age the most were the weariness of being alive so long and the frustration of being wiser than everyone else. Personally, I think Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi did the best at this. Matt had a lot of moments where he'd be all silly running around but then take a serious moment and show his anger/age/weariness, but the most notable scenes for Matt emphasizing the age to me were at Demons Run during his coronal runaway speech, The Big Bang rewind sequence, when he meets Clara as a victorian nanny, and the beast below. So despite his youth and him acting very young, he balanced it out with a lot of serious moments where he rly seemed older.
Jodie on the other hand, even though she had a lot of more youthful moments, she didn't have as many harsh serious moments to balance it out, and I just don't remember many scenes where she really seemed that old. Although I do think Jodie is capable of it, she did a really good job of it when the opportunities were there, just, they didn't come as often, which could have been her but it also could have been the direction the production wanted her to go. It came out in a lot of the doctor/master scenes and a couple others.
So to summarize my long winded ramble here, I think Jodie was perceived as younger than 10 and 11 despite looking similar ages partially because she's a woman and partially bc she wasn't aggressively angry as much as they were. But I have a suspicion that she was discouraged from acting aggressive the way 11 and even 10 did when they were angry bc she was a woman and women are perceived more negatively when acting more aggressive than men. Like, Jodie never had her ANGRY MOMENT that made you go "oh yeah that's the oncoming storm." So anyway, let women be angry, don't make them more passive than men in the same situation.
I forgot this was supposed to be about age differences hold on.
Okay yeah, 13 and Yaz weren't perceived the same was as 9 and Rose or even 10 and Rose because 13 is a women and women are infantilized but also they aren't perceived as "threats" bc female abusers are taken much less seriously than men especially with age differences. Never once was it mentioned that a 19 year old girl dating a 36 year old women would be weird. Yaz's mom literally asked Yaz if they were dating, and she asked it the same way she asked if her and Ryan were dating. 13 was not perceived as too old to be dating Yaz. This is not the same thing that happened with Rose. Jackie and Mickey repeatedly mentioned the age being weird with 9 before they knew his real age, and 9 was generally assumed to be an older guardian of Rose rather than a romantic interest because of his age. Even 10, who was 35, was treated as much older than Rose in a way 13 never was with Yaz.
But it could be argued that character ages are less signifiant in terms of dynamics because the doctor is obviously thousands of years old and that the actor ages are more important in determining the "appropriateness" of the age difference. In which case, I'd bring up 11 and River. Never ONCE, in the whole series, from Silence in the Library to The Husbands of River Song was River's age mentioned. Nor have I seen a single person in the fandom ever bring up Matt and Alex's age difference. And there are some random factors with River not being fully human, and Matt being older closer to 30 than 20, the weird reverse timeline btwn them, but I think gender is the big one here.
Alex Kingston was 45, the oldest for a reoccurring female companion, but to be fair, she doesn't look that old. At least to me, she could have been early 30s and I wouldn't have been surprised. She acted in such a way that made her feel ageless, she was flirty and active like a young person but also experienced and stern like an older person, that tied with her mysterious past and knowledge made her seem like she could be in a wider age range. And a lot of that was just because Alex Kingston is an amazing actor. Like, certain scenes she definitely seemed younger or older, like in Lets Kill Hitler she acted very much like a rebellious teenager but in episodes like the big bang, and the library ones she seemed much older.
Women are generally expected to physically look younger than men of their same age, which, from a real life standpoint might explain why Alex just didn't look as old as Eccleston for example, because she's probably made more effort irl to look younger, with makeup, products, whatever. And again, older women are not perceived the same way older men are when they are with younger partners. Like, 9 and Rose kissing looked weird to me, even the first time I watched it I was thought of the actors like "hes old enough to be her dad thats weird to watch" but I didn't even realize Alex Kingston was so much older than Matt Smith the first FEW times I watched it. Even knowing, I just can't view the age difference as much as I can with 9 and Rose. And yes, Matt is older than Billie was, and Billie was styled as a teen/young adult while Matt wore old man clothes and acted older. But even in The Husbands of River Song, seeing River and 12 (only a 5 year age difference) looked weirder to me than River and 11 (19 year difference). Like, Peter Capaldi just seemed much older than Alex Kingston than she ever seemed older than Matt Smith.

I'm re-watching Thirteen's era in lead up to the Centenary and since this is likely going to be my last full re-watch for a while I thought I'd do a post on each ep where I just go over all the things I love, hate or just have some general thoughts on.
This ep is crazy bc I feel like I could just list every single second of it in this thread bc I just love it all

current project is a thasmissy fic (wait do people even know that portmanteau? ive just been using it. yaz/13/missy) set between revolution and flux. it's basically vault times but with 13 and yaz instead of 12 and bill. it's about coming to terms with trauma and coming to terms with your sexuality i think most concisely put. or in other words i think ive put it like it's about "the things we dont want to touch and the things we DO want to touch". heres the video i made of it last year for anyone who hasnt seen it:

this video took a full month to make and drove me almost insane which makes sense bc editing this fic rn is driving me again insane. just need to finish two more scenes. one of which is the technobabble
it's really fun to do but also takes soooo much time. my favourite tardis wiki page is the tardis components one so im on that a lot, and then ive got a thousand wikipedia pages open about philosophical, linguistic and mathematical concepts and then i try to put words together in a way thats at least superficially a little bit convincing

honestly i dont think i have a lot of those? i think generally my writing process is just that i write the scene i want to write, and either that turns into the whole fic, or i combine it with other scenes i wanted to write and shuffle then all around for a long time until it resembles something like a story. who needs set up? just jump into the medias of res babey

full stories probably not or maybe there were but i dont remember now. but theres a lot of scenes with alternative versions in this thasmissy fic bc i had to puzzle and recut and rewrite a lot until it made the least bit of sense due to aforementioned "shuffle around until it resembles a story" approach
theres one scene where there was a really clear fork in the road where first i went down one route and then i was like 'oh no i cant do this, it breaks the relationship beyond what i want it to' so i had to go back and take the other path. im still fond of that alternative scene because it was also an interesting one i think
it's a scene between yaz and missy and in the cut version yaz said/did something that sort of cemented their dynamic as an echo of what my interpretation is of vault times thoschei, ie that the doctor keeps the master trapped. half physically half emotionally. because i think the master could leave, the vault or 13's tardis in this fic, but emotionally it's more complicated than that. the power the doctor has over them is that they want the doctor's love, especially missy is super overtly driven by that. the master always is but missy is unashamed and almost unresentful of it i think. missy will say "love me" out loud, basically. "i need my friend back" you know?
and what i had yaz do put missy in that same kind of position she is wrt the doctor. and they both immediately realised that and missy was like "youre just like her" and yaz was like "oh shit i fucked up". it's an interesting scene i think because being like the doctor is what yaz wants, right? and being like the doctor is why missy is drawn to her. but yaz doesnt want to replicate the relationship dynamic of the doctor and the master. she wants to be like the doctor but she also has that I Can Fix Her instinct. and i think with missy that is way more important because missy doesnt need another doctor (even though she also wouldnt be interested in someone who wasnt a little bit the doctor, you know? hi clara. i think 12/missy/clara and 13/dhawan/yaz are like two sides of the same coin. the companion a mirror to both the doctor and the master)

13. what’s a piece of canon that you completely disregard whenever you come across it?
OPE. um...! honestly i know this isn't what the question is asking but. i have only watched season three once. i GET that ten is super depressed about rose leaving, and as a dedicated doctorrose-ie, i would think it incredibly out of character if he weren't. BUT. it is also an incredible drag, lmao. my favorite parts of doctor who are when it's just dumbasses literally falling through time and space, and following up season two (which was full of laughs and genuine fun) with the main character being emo supreme is just so much. i LOVE martha though, but it's so much easier to watch her in season four because the doctor isn't being such a whiner. lmao.
15. is there a plot line that has ended but that you wish had been expanded on?
hmmmmmm..... honestly i feel like the whole hybrid thing just could have been done better? after twelve spent billions of years working to get clara back, even though he had no reason to believe that he could, him suddenly saying 'oh it's okay that one of us forgets, it's the hybrid!' just seems so silly to me. so i guess it would have been expanded on in some way in the sense that i wish we could have been given more time with clara and twelve, that they could have paused and said 'no we're working ourselves up. neither of us have to forget. how can we fix this?' but also i know that's not how the show works and that we have to refresh the cast. so like. i get it. but in a perfect world, they would have figured it out !

season 4: any time donna says 'flip' she's actually saying fuck. literally you cannot limit me to just one. but if i had to choose it be would in the lowest stakes possible. donna's earned it.
season 5: in the eleventh hour when the doctor turns up again for the first time amy says 'where the fuck have you been'
season 6: at any given point during the impossible astronaut during any given dialogue amy says 'you don't fucking tell me what to do'
season 7: in journey to the centre of the tardis right when the doctor and clara burst through the door and almost run off the cliff, and then he rounds on her and is like 'TELL ME WHO YOU ARE' clara's like 'WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU'
season 8: during deep breath at any of the points when the doctor is fucking off and clara is trying to pin him down she's like 'you've got to be fucking joking'
season 9: at one point during hell bent the doctor gets a moment to really let lose on the high and mighty time lords and does the malcolm tucker 'you cannot fuck me! you cannot fuck me! i am unfuckable! i have never been fucked! and if you fucking try and fuck me, you'll find my fucking arse will grow fucking fangs -- AND FUCKING SNAP YOUR FUCKING COCK OFF'
season 10: when bill goes on that first trip and they end up in australia and right as she steps off the tardis she goes 'oh fuck no'
season 11: in the woman who fell to earth, when the doctor realizes she doesn't have her screwdriver she goes 'awh fuck'
season 12: in praxeus when ryan says 'you're full of something graham' graham says 'oh fuck off'
season 13: in the halloween apocalypse when dan first gets to watch the doctor and yaz riffing off each other he goes 'what are you two FUCKING talking about'

Initial Doctorate Whomst've episode thoughts
I liked it. That's probably the most important part.
But just like previous episode, it just didn't feel like a 60th anniversary at all. Like... where was the anniversary part of this anniversary? The person I watched it with pointed out that The Power of the Doctor was more a celebration of the show's history than these 3 episodes.
Neil Patrick Harris killed it and it was fun to be reminded of the fact he can do magic tricks. The Toymaker's vibe was so good and I was legit at the edge of my seat during the cold open and the maze part.
Also his German accent made me miss his Hedwig a lot.
And the Spice Girls segment was so amazing.
I know that 14 was going through his sad boi era, but I found the moment where he embraced his title as president of the world very disturbing.
I hope we'll see more of Shirley Ann.
Honestly, I have Mixed Thoughts on the bigeneration thing. On one hand, it's fucking cool and I like the idea of 14 becoming part of the Noble family. On the other hand... what? What are the implications of this? Also, 14 is, unlike TenToo, still a Time Lord so he's still "immortal". And what if 14 gets shot or something? Will there be another 15? ALSO the whole point of regeneration is that's about moving on. Just... why does David Tennant get the special treatment again?
As in, it would've made more sense to me if 14 would become some hybrid again, with 15 taking all the Time Lord stuff. You know. TenThree.
I did love all the scenes with 14 and 15 together.
And I like the idea of 14 also checking in on other companions who are in the 21st century, like Martha, Bill (after she comes back to Earth, see side-canon), Yaz, Graham, Ryan and Dan.
Not gonna lie, I won't be surprised if RTD cashes in on this with another spin-off. I accept.
The addition of Mel was... bland. Like, it added nothing. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy she was there, but she was so forgettable in the grand scheme of things. It wasn't like the return of Sarah Jane, or Ace, or Tegan. Or Jo in SJA.
JUSTICE FOR RORY. AGAIN. WHY THE FFUCK DOES THIS SHOW FORGET RORY WAS A MAIN COMPANION IN S6 AND S7.1 AS WELL.
I did think it was kind of sad the Toymaker skipped over 13's companions, but also, they're all fine. What was it supposed to be? "Ryan? Went home. *snip* Graham? Went home. *snip*. Dan? Went home. *snip* Yaz? Brought back home. *snip*. Oh."?
NO BUT REALLY JUSTICE FOR RORY.
Also, yeah, only these companions + Donna and Mel? There were so many people who mattered to them. I was surprised they didn't even mention all NewWho companions.
LIKE RORY. AND MARTHA.
Aaaaand... The Master will return. That's fine. I kind of hope Sacha Dhawan stays on, to bridge the story. Classic Doctors shared Masters, so can NuWho Doctors.
But yeah, I am just only really saddened by the fact that no other Doctors were even shown. Like, I would be so fine with another bad cgi overview of all of them, like in the 50th, or the usage of archival footage, like in the 50th.
BUT WTF. POOR RORY.

Invitation With A Kiss
“So what is this place, Doc?“ Graham asked as they made their way to the door of the TARDIS.
“Had an invitation!“ The Doctor retorted with a grin double-checking her psychic paper to make sure she had the right place and time.
“Who from?“ Yaz asked curiously.
“Ah, well, you know…“ The Doctor tried to wave it off but Yaz was quick enough to snatch the psychic paper from her fingers before she could try to hide it.
“Signed with a kiss?“ Yaz gaped and a wide grin spread across her features. Finally something to truly wind their friend up with and Ryan smirked as well:
“You sure you want us to tag along?“
“Oh, shut up, it’s not exactly a private party.“ The Doctor huffed trying to hide the blush that crept onto her cheeks. Quickly, she opened the door before any of her friends could comment and stepped outside.
“Oh wow, I don’t think I have words for this…“ Yaz started laughing as she joined the Doctor. They found themselves at the side of a most colourful parade. There were rainbows EVERYWHERE! Balloons, confetti, flags, people were dancing, hugging, kissing, having the time of their lives. “Please tell me this is…“
“Planet Pride.“ The Doctor grinned and put her hands on her hips as she took in the atmosphere. It was elating. There was a mild breeze that carried music and exotic smells, the sun was blazing down but not unpleasantly and the joy surrounding them was almost palpable. “Think of your 21st century Pride celebrations, multiply it by, I don’t know, a whole galaxy celebrating togetherness and inclusivity, and you get the greatest queer party this side of the universe.“ The Doctor turned to her friends who were still in awe.
“Isn’t this like… the future?“ Yaz finally found her voice and looked to the Doctor who was surprised to find concern in her eyes: “Is there a need for Pride still? Like I would have thought the issue would long be resolved and…“
“Oh it is, don’t worry!“ The Doctor grinned as she understood what she was getting at. “Doesn’t erase the past though. It’s part of the history of humankind… very sad, pointless, stupid part, but history nonetheless. Can’t and shouldn’t erase history, else you can’t learn from past mistakes… But let’s face it, Pride is brilliant. By this point it’s just an excuse to have one hell of a party.“ She pushed her hands into her pockets and they started walking down the street.
“This is brilliant.“ The Fam quickly found themselves accessorised by strangers, flower garlands and all sorts of amusing party hats were being passed out.
“Who’s the invite from, then?“ Ryan asked as they quickly caught up with the Doctor who was looking around the sea of people, clearly searching for someone.
“My wife.“ The Doctor answered knowing full well that there was no way she could keep it from them. She stopped and gnawed her bottom lip as she scanned the crowd. Where was she? Like she stood a chance of finding her amongst all these people…
“Your what now?“ Graham’s face fell and he nearly ran into her.
“Wife.“ The Doctor retorted matter-of-factly looking back to her friends. “We’re here to celebrate Pride, remember?“
“Yes but… you’re married?!“ Yaz exclaimed and carried on teasingly: “Who would agree to that?!“
“Well, we have always wondered that at one point or another…“ A voice sounded behind them and they all whirled around.
“Jack!“ The Fam exclaimed in unison as Captain Jack Harkness saluted with a grin.
“Hello, Doctor.“ He scooped the Doctor up in a tight hug who squeaked as the air was pushed from her lungs. “Fancy seeing you here! Are you ready for a party?“
“Hello Jack.“ She managed as she tried to extricate herself from his arms. “Bit too much to drink already?“ Jack ignored her comment and turned to the Fam, extending his arms.
“Ryan. Yaz. … Graham.“ He winked at Graham who blushed a little. Jack’s flirting was not lost on him or anyone else for that matter. “Missed me?“ He grinned. “Did you come here to see me?“
“While I knew you’d be here, no, not exactly.“ The Doctor retorted, trying to let him down gently.
“Well, that’s just as well.“ Jack huffed, trying not to look too offended. “I’m here with a Doctor of my own anyway. Though I seem to have lost him… and Donna just keeps trying to pass me drink after drink so…“
“You’re here with me? And Donna?“ The Doctor’s eyes widened in shock.
“There’s another version of you here?“ Yaz asked, utterly confused. The Doctor had told them plenty of times about how she had been a different person before and how Time Lords could regenerate their body, but they had never actually seen proof of it.
“And I don’t remember it… timelines crossing…“ The Doctor realised running her hands through her hair nervously. There was potential for disastrous chaos here.
“Doctor?“ A voice called and they all looked around. The girl that had called out wasn’t looking at them though, she was scanning the crowd and turned to another girl whose hand she was holding. “He must be here somewhere, that’s his TARDIS over there.“ They were searching for the Doctor too.
“Well, I’ve got a Doctor here if you’re looking for one!“ Jack called out without thinking. He didn't know the girls but the look on the Doctor’s face revealed that she did. She was simply too stunned to respond just yet. The girls looked at Jack who waved with a wide grin. “I think you mean to say: Her TARDIS. Times change!“
“Bill…“ The Doctor finally found her voice again as she stared at her long lost friend. There she was. Brilliant, beautiful Bill Potts. Cyberman no longer, holding on to her girlfriend’s hand and shock painted all over her face as the realisation hit her.
“Oh my GOD!“ Bill exclaimed, frozen to the spot.
“And Heather.“ The Doctor was beginning to grin now and hurried over.
“You have to be joking!“ Bill was still in shock, she shook her head to herself as the Doctor came to a halt in front of her with the Fam and Jack following close behind.
“Hello Bill!“ The Doctor smirked, amused by how her brain was reeling. “What? Not even a hug?“ She chuckled as Bill was finally pulled from her stupor.
“I really don't think I should hug you…“ Bill found her voice at last as she looked her up and down. “Cause you’re like… dead hot right now…“ She glanced at Heather who just laughed. “But also, you’re my weird space grandpa! So come here!“ She pulled the Doctor in a tight hug laughing.
“Fam, this is my friend Bill and her girlfriend Heather.“ The Doctor introduced them all.
“Lovely to meet you.“ Heather smiled. “I have a feeling you will be seeing quite a few familiar faces.“ She told the Doctor with a knowing smile.
“Yeah, it’ll get complicated when you run into yourself…“ Bill grinned, amused at the very prospect of it.
“He’s here, too?“ The Doctor’s face fell. Things were bound to get even more complicated with two of her former regenerations around!
“Well yeah, we were looking for him, lost him somewhere along the way…“ Bill explained. “Oh God…“
“What?“ The Doctor frowned, alarmed at the dread in her friend’s voice.
“Quickly, hide!“ She pulled the Doctor and Heather behind a make-shift beach bar that served all sorts of colourful cocktails. The other’s mirrored their actions. While they didn’t know what was going on, it seemed like the right course of action.
“Bill, what…“ The Doctor started to protest but forgot where she was going with it when her eyes fell on two very familiar people, making their way towards the bar.
“I really don’t know why you insisted on coming here.“ Missy gave a huff as they came within earshot.
“Why not? It’s fun.“ Clara retorted, amused at the displeasure on the Time Lady’s face.
“I don’t see what’s so exciting about drawing rainbows on your face and parading around the street.“ Missy rather stood out in her almost completely black outfit.
“Humour me.“ Clara retorted, who - in her colourful waitress uniform - looked the complete opposite. “I’ll make it worth your while.“ She looped her arm around Missy’s.
“You better.“ Missy pursed her lips, looking to the girl at her side, then continued to scan the crowd.
“If you didn’t want to come, why did you?“ Clara asked and scoffed as Missy paid her little attention and kept looking around: “You’re hoping the Doctor will be here, aren’t you. And here I was thinking you actually wanted to spend time with me.“
“Doctor, who are they?“ Yaz whispered to the Doctor, struggling to follow what was going on. Those two women clearly knew her and the Doctor seemed to know them too as all colour had drained from her face.
“Doctor, what do you want to do?“ Bill whispered to her but she didn’t respond, she was transfixed.
“Don’t get me wrong, Clara, dear, I enjoy a booty call as much as the next Time Lady.“ Missy smirked, looking back to Clara. “Particularly one where my sweet little plaything is intoxicated on sweet drinks and self righteousness but if I just happen to run into the Doctor and get the opportunity to kill him, that would be a two birds one stone kind of scenario. Particularly if I get to mortally embarrass him by putting you in a rather compromising position first.“ Missy ran her fingertips along Clara’s jaw, pushing her head up a little.
“Right, that’s it!“ The Doctor exclaimed. “Clara!“ She called, marching out of their hiding place.
“Huh?“ Clara and Missy looked around confused, annoyed at the moment being so rudely interrupted.
“Oh God…“ Bill groaned and they all rushed after the Doctor.
“Sorry dear, this is a private conversation, pick a number and I’ll get to you in a sec.“ Missy gave a dismissive wave of her hand, refocusing her attention on Clara but the Doctor wouldn’t have it.
“Missy, get your hands off her right now!“ The Doctor threatened.
“Who’s this, Doctor?“ Yaz asked, hoping for an explanation.
“Doctor?“ Missy raised her eyebrows, her lips pulling into a smirk.
“Doctor?“ Clara echoed, surprised, excited and embarrassed in equal measures.
“What are you doing with her??“ The Doctor demanded to know off Clara as she wildly gestured at her nemesis.
“My my my, isn’t this some sight. Finally had the upgrade as well?“ Missy ignored the comment as she regarded her childhood friend’s new body. She snaked her arm around Clara and pulled her close to her side.
“Missy!“ The Doctor growled. “Get away from her!“
“Why?“ Missy feigned innocence and hurt. “She asked me here? She wants me here. You could even say she wants me .“ She gave a triumphant smirk and the Doctor flushed scarlet with embarrassment and anger.
“Clara, is that…“
“Uhhh…“ Clara blushed even more deeply than the Doctor herself.
“Does anyone else feel like they're slightly out of the loop?“ Ryan piped up, trying to make sense of the situation in front of them. For whatever reason, the Doctor was interrupting what looked like a perfectly consensual, happy date…
“This is the Master.“ The Doctor spat angrily. “Earlier version… don’t let the lipstick fool you, just as deadly.“
“Lipstick makes for a wonderful weapon, particularly in the right hands. Just ask your lovely wife.“ Missy retorted with a smile. “Where is she, by the way? You’re not here single , are you?“ She tightened the grip on Clara for emphasis.
“Missy!“ Clara slapped the Time Lady’s shoulder. “Come on, we’re all here to have some fun, can’t we just do that.“
“I can have fun with you anywhere I like.“ Missy smirked, moving her hand lower to the hem of her skirt, just enough to make the Doctor nearly lose it. “Fine. Alright.“ She let go of her. “Be a good little puppy now and fetch me a drink then.“ She smirked at the Doctor who balled her hands to tight fits, looking like she was about to burst. Missy laying her hands on one of her friends like that was just too much.
“Anyone else for a cocktail?“ Clara turned back to the group, hoping to move to conversation along to where she wouldn’t be mortally embarrassed in front of her best friend.
“I’ll help you carry.“ Heather volunteered quickly following Clara to the bar.
“So the Master used to be a woman?“ Graham exclaimed at last, when the situation seemed to have defused a little.
“Spoilers.“ Missy tutted at him.
“This is going to get very complicated with everyone here.“ The Doctor had to agree. “You can’t reveal anything about anyone’s future or we could be ripping space and time apart.“
“Yes, this is quite the explosive combination.“ Missy had to concede as she regarded the Doctor’s entourage. “Which begs the question, Doctor, what brings you here? Other than the rainbow candy floss?“
“River invited me.“ The Doctor shot back, almost too quickly, as if to make the point that Missy didn’t have one over in her.
“Well, she’s here somewhere…“ Missy smirked, delighting in the fact that she knew something the Doctor didn’t. “Busy though, really busy…“
“Busy?“ The Doctor frowned. She didn’t like the way Missy was saying that but she couldn’t help her hearts somersaulting just a little bit at the confirmation that her wife was here somewhere. She would get to see her again. It had been such a long time.
“Your bride dances at numerous weddings, as usual.“ Missy hummed just as Clara and Heather returned with colourful cocktails. “Thank you dear.“ She took a bright red drink that was unsettlingly reminiscent of blood and took the opportunity to press a firm kiss to Clara’s lips. “Oh I should start doing this to all your companions, the look on your face!“ Missy laughed at the Doctor’s expression. She looked like she was about to throw a punch. “Or, you know, your wife… now that would be fun.“
“Watch it!“ The Doctor growled threateningly.
“Wherever is Professor Song?“ Missy hummed in a sing-song voice and sip her drink in delight.
“Clara!“ Everyone looked around as two female voices chanted in unison.
“Oh hello!“ Clara recognised Vastra and Jenny immediately as they were heading straight towards them.
“More old friends?“ Ryan asked and the Doctor’s face brightened. It was hard to worry about the timeline when it was so nice to see so many of her friends.
“Vastra! Jenny!“ She grinned at them in greeting and while Jenny frowned, confused, her wife’s superior senses helped her recognise her immediately.
“Doctor!“ The lizard woman looked at her in shock. “Now that makes a change.“ She looked her up and down, surprised, but not unpleasantly. Jenny must have noticed the look on her face as she gave Vastra’s arm a playful slap.
“Oi! Married!“ She reminded her. “Hello Doctor.“ She carried on cheerfully and gave a wave to everyone else, who, with the exception of Clara, they didn’t know yet.
“It’s getting rather crowded, isn’t it.“ Missy pursed her lips shooting Clara a glance with the intention of getting out of there soon but her companion was more concerned with meeting the Doctor’s other friends, past and present. “Oi!“ She shot Jack a glare who was just putting his arm around Clara all too familiarly.
“Sorry, dear.“ Vastra gave her wife an appeasing smile and turned back to the Doctor. “We didn’t expect to see you, Doctor. At least not like this.“
“Don’t tell me.“ The Doctor groaned, sensing where this was going.
“We didn’t mean to interrupt, we just thought, when we saw Miss Oswald, perhaps she’d know where the Doctor was, a younger one, that is. Suspenders too, but bow tie…“ Vastra explained apologetically. They had lost the Doctor they had arrived with quite a while ago.
“Is that who you’re here with?“ The Doctor asked, wincing at the prospect of yet another version of hers running around this place.
“Following an invitation from your wife, as I understand it. He didn’t want to go alone.“ Jenny added.
“Where is he now?“ The Doctor asked, sensing where all this was going.
“That is a very good question.“ Vastra agreed and they all looked around, everyone scanning the crowd for their particular Doctors.
“I already have a very bad feeling about this…“ The Doctor sighed.
“Are you sure you want to find your wife?“ Missy snickered, highly amused.
“I would if I knew how.“ The Doctor huffed, as a cheerful voice carried over from the other side of the cocktail bar:
“That River Song really is something, isn’t she.“ Everyone looked around and saw a blonde pulling herself onto a bar stool, setting down a nearly empty glass.
“Don’t say it like that.“ A second woman, brunette with shoulder length hair, huffed as she climbed onto a stool beside her. The Doctor looked around to her friends, none of whom recognised the two women, with the exception of herself and Missy who pursed her lips with intrigue. Now there were two people she hadn't seen in quite some time.
“Like what?“ Helen laughed, twirling the straw of her drink between her fingers.
“Like you admire the woman…“ Liv answered, clearly not enjoying the conversation.
“You’re just jealous.“ Helen retorted playfully.
“Jealous? Of what? Don’t be ridiculous.“ Liv shot back a little too quickly.
“Then stop sulking!“ Helen grinned. “The Doctor is having fun, leave him to it. And let’s have some fun too! These cocktails are really good…“ She waved at the bar keep for another.
“And really strong, you sure you want another one.“ Liv couldn’t help but point out.
“Most definitely.“ Helen nodded full of enthusiasm and nearly fell off her stool. Perhaps she had had a little bit too much after all. Liv was quick to hold her up. “Thank you Liv, you’re the best you know that?“ Helen smiled happily and reached out to stroke her friend’s cheek.
“I try.“ Liv replied, blushing at the gesture and her friend pulled her forward into a tight hug.
“No really, you are…“ Helen held her tightly, nuzzling into the crook of her neck and Liv didn’t know what to do with her hands. She nearly fell off her stool herself but she didn’t want to pull back either, so she wrapped her arms around Helen’s shoulders, glad she wouldn’t be able to see her blush. Helen was completely oblivious to her discomfort, she just carried on mumbling: “You’re so kind and clever and brave and… so pretty…“
“I think you’ve had enough to drink…“ Liv pulled away, momentarily worried for her friend’s state but Helen wouldn’t let her go. Instead she grabbed Liv’s head and kissed her.
“I had money on that, you know.“ Missy smirked as the Doctor just watched, delighted and confused in equal measures. How had she never picked up on this when they were travelling together?
“Oh God…“ Helen pulled away when she realised what she was doing. But only after thoroughly snogging her best friend’s face off. She blushed deeply, her intoxication seemingly gone in an instant as sobering reality hit her. Liv blinked overwhelmed still, her heart nearly jumping out of her chest. “Sorry, I was just… getting carried away and…“ Helen stammered, letting go of her but this time it was Liv that wouldn’t let go.
“You can do it again… you know in the spirit of… or just because you want to…“ Liv bit her bottom lip nervously.
“I don’t know why I did that…“ Helen carried on stuttering until Liv’s words sunk in: “What?“
“Oh Helen… my beautiful, clueless friend…“ Liv shook her head and laughed.
“Sorry, I have no idea what I’m doing.“ Helen admitted, blushing scarlet.
“I do.“ Liv assured her more confidently and leaned in to kiss her again when Helen stopped her.
“Liv…“
“What?“ Liv’s heart sank, wondering if Helen had thought better of it but she realised her friend was stopped for another reason. She was looking past her and Liv noticed they had an audience.
“Oh, don’t stop on my account.“ Missy gave a wave of her hand when she realised she had been spotted. Of course, she was the only one Helen Sinclair and Liv Chenka would recognise. “Wasn’t sure where we were, timelines and all!“
“You again!“ Helen exclaimed and Missy sighed. Why were the Doctor’s friends always so stuck up on the past? So what if she had kidnapped and nearly killed her?
“I was hoping we would bump into you again, now I can finally…“ Liv was about to go for Missy but the Doctor quickly intervened.
“No, no, no, none of that!“ She held Liv back and Missy chuckled.
“Come on, Doctor, if Miss Chenka wasn’t to play, that can be arranged.“ Her eyes flashed dangerously.
“Missy! Timelines!“ The Doctor scolded. The time lines were already all messed up, without anyone losing their life before their time. Missy gave a shrug.
“Doctor?“ Liv echoed, looking at the blonde in front of her bewildered. She took a step back, accepting that maybe violence was not the right course of action right now.
“While I’m sure the Doctor is elated to see you two finally stopped doing that silly little I don’t know how she’s feeling about me - but what if she doesn’t like me - but she’s from the past - but she’s from the future - I can’t ruin our friendship dance of yours, she’d rather like to know where her wife is and you seem to know.“ Missy sighed, crossing her arms in front of her chest.
“The Doctor?“ Helen repeated incredulously.
“Wow…“ Was all Liv could manage staring at the blonde and Helen, gripped by a wave of jealousy, hit her arm:
“Liv!“
“Not to interrupt the happy reunion or whatever but I think your search is over, Doctor.“ Jack announced and everyone looked around to where he was pointing.
“She didn’t just invite you, did she…“ Missy chuckled as they watched River push through the crowd accompanied by no less than thirteen Doctors, all of them competing for her attention and affection.
“She invited all of us, didn’t she…“ The Doctor sighed, realising that the same message she had received would have popped up on every other Doctor’s psychic paper as well.
“Go on then, Doctor.“ Jack put his arm around her slender shoulders and pulled her along. “Because if you don’t go over there, I might.“ He smirked. “Professor Song!“ He called before the Doctor could protest. River looked over to them, grinning, as she recognised Jack.
“Captain.“ She smirked flirtily as she sauntered over, while the other Doctors shot Jack annoyed glances.
“Think this is who you were looking for.“ Jack gave the Doctor a shove forward and decided that for once, he should be the wing man instead of going for the prize himself.
“Hello River.“ The Doctor managed a half smile and her feelings were incredibly conflicting. She was thrilled to see her wife; who looked beautiful in a flowing dress with the sun dancing in her curls. She was jealous that the other Doctor’s got there before her. And most importantly, she was annoyed: How could she have been so irresponsible?! All of space and time could rip apart if they put a foot wrong!
“My my my, now that makes a change.“ River smirked as she only took a moment to realise who she was. She stepped closer, looking her up and down far more obviously would have been necessary. The Doctor blushed and decided to go on the offensive to get herself out of the awkward situation:
“You know you will have to make them forget!“ She pointed to all her other selves. “This could end so badly!“
“Timelines will do that. Relax, Sweetie. None of you will remember a thing after crossing your own time stream. I can’t believe I’ve had to have this conversation fourteen times.“ River sighed but the expression on her face indicated that she had no problem repeating herself with her spouses. “Now, less sulking, how about a kiss for your old wife, hm?“ She smirked, grabbed the Doctor by the collar of her coat. She pulled her in for a kiss that quickly muted any sort of protest.
Just then, a confetti cannon went off, dousing the group in a rainbow of colours.
“Sorry, couldn’t help it.“ Missy grinned as the Doctor’s friends shot her accusing glances and she hid her sonic umbrella behind her back. “Anyway, I wonder if there are more versions of me about…“
The Doctor didn’t even notice. She was too occupied kissing her wife to the chorus of jealous calls from several of her past selves. She had missed her so much .

33. Do you want to be published some day?
Hm, a tough one immediately. I don't know? Definitely not in English. I have dreamt about becoming a professional author for all of my childhood and youth. But recently (read: for the last 5 years) I have stopped writing much original stuff and focused on fanfic.
Because I have found that I mostly enjoy writing for fun and talking to people about it. And writing for free takes a lot of pressure away, I believe. I tend to worry anyway, if I wanted people to pay for it, I would be even more concerned whether my writing was good enough. Also, celebrating characters I already love seems more fun right now than coming up with new ones.
That said, I AM a big fan of several children's stories I have written and I would love to workshop them some day and have someone illustrate them (or do it myself?) and then have a proper children's book. That would be so cool?! Especially if someone with proper art skills made the images. But to go through all the work of finding a publisher and then promoting the book...I don't know whether I would enjoy that.
42. What’s the last fic you read? Do you recommend it?
I have been following Down the Line by how_to_sit_gay recently and I would recommend it (with reservations).
First of, it's beautifully written and heartwrenching and nervewracking and makes you feel all the emotions. Mostly the emotion 'I want to whack Yaz over the head with her keyboard' but well - just know you will feel strongly about the plot.
Then, it is just cliff-hanger after cliff-hanger. It's all written now so you can just start and read them all immediately and don't have to wait for a week like I had to. Which means, you will definitely become addicted and read all 140k words in one go. So be prepared for that.
Then, Jace is adorable and Bill is a treat and Clara is amazing and Sonya deserves the world, so the supporting cast is great. And you will love Yaz despite all her mistakes and feel bad about still rooting for her. So lots to fall in love with here.
Then, it is a human!!AU and thasmin and a slowburn, so depends on whether you like that, I think all of those sound super fun 🤷♀️ Oh, also, obviously it's in the doctor who fandom. (But that's 90% of what I post about so I think you might have guessed that.)
Now, the two reservations:
Yaz works as a phone-sex-worker and the rating is accordingly E. It is suprisingly heavy on the T- or even G-side for many chapters, but stuff happens and also you just need to know if you'd like to read Yaz specifically as a sex worker. Because, well, that leads me to the second point:
The whole subject and certain elements and scenes are rather delicate from a racism/islamophobia viewpoint, imo. I think the author did their absolute best to address that inside the story and I am sure they were being as considerate as possible. But also this is a story for fun and not a dissertation and I don't believe it is possible in the setting to do everything right by everyone. So if that is a sensible topic for you, maybe rather don't read the fic or tread carefully.
That said, I really enjoyed the fic. So, if you think it might be something for you, definitely give it a try!
74. You’ve posted a fic anonymously. How would someone be able to guess that you’d written it?
Hah, good question. I am always wondering what people are recognising my writing voice by.
I would say... start with the characters? If there's River, the fugitive Doctor or 12 in it, that's already a good sign. Then I used to post a lot of pure fluff but lately if there isn't a dash of angst, it's probably not me.
There's often only the minimum amount of tags necessary, and probably the TARDIS is mentioned somewhere in them, either as a character or as a plot-device. The summary should be very short but the notes might get long. The title is probably short, too.
And then...it starts with like a page of setting description, followed by only dialogue. The whole thing is probably between 1k and 6k long. Most likely it has a happy ending.
...do you think that would be enough to recognise me?

So. Dan Lewis. I really enjoyed him, but now that s13 has finished, I’m convinced it was because of how well John Bishop played him rather than the character’s writing.
He did have a good introduction, I think Chibbs is good at that. He was immediately and strongly set up as someone incredibly kind and selfless, to a point where he refused to let others help him, and hid behind a cheerful front because he felt it was more important to help others, with a bit of pride mixed in for good measure. He had a trade but he chose to be a (unwanted) volunteer at the museum because he loved his city and he loved helping other people experience that love, even if it was a bit misdirected. I came away from that first ep with a strong idea of who he was, but also a slight concern that what we saw would be more or less confined to the Obligatory Introduction.
And.. Eh. Dan was fun, well-acted and an enjoyable character, but so many of the things that seemed very purposely set up in the first ep were completely irrelevant for the rest of the series.
I really think they missed a trick when he was sent back to 1901 with Yaz and Jericho. Obviously they would have been able to get some clothes, money and belongings from the abandoned houses, but that wouldn’t have been enough to get by for long. And it would have been great to see the other two noticing that Dan was particularly good at making a filling meal from scant ingredients, or bulking out a simple bit of food to make it last longer, or simply adept at making every penny count, gradually realising that specifics aside, this was something he was just used to.
I also wish that that pride, that unwillingness to let others help him had been a bit more at the forefront for the rest of the series. There are definitely parallels to be made with other characters in the tardis when it comes to putting on a front so others can’t see how badly you’re doing, and I would have loved him to have an arc where he lets go of that pride and fully allows others in, instead of just joking it off.
I mean...this guy had empty cupboards and unpaid bills, was clearly struggling, only to have his house taken from him, and then at the end of the series there’s no indication whatsoever what he expects his living arrangements to be without going back to the tardis (which didn’t look like something he had always planned to do). Is he homeless? Still putting up a front of everything being fine, of being able to go out and book a nice dinner for him and Di? What are his plans for his life? His hopes? How has his time in the tardis changed him?
Chibnall can write great character moments. It’s just a shame that it seems to always fall flat when it comes to long-term development.

First off, apologies for the delayed response, I queued all these posts in a sudden thoschei haze before going off on holiday somewhere with very limited internet access lol, but this was lovely to come back to!! As fun as rambling in Tumblr tags can be, imo the real fun of meta comes from discussing it with people so this is!!! Very exciting!!!!
I’m going to be rambling a bit more below about the different things you bolded bc I will literally take any opportunity to type about these two for hours kjdfhgfd

The Master vs the Doctor’s companions
I could talk for DAYS about this bc it is fascinating to me. Pre TTC, you’ve got the Master’s arrogance coming out in full force when it comes to the companions (very time lord of him btw lol). They’re not threats, not really, even if the Doctor gets attached, bc they are fundamentally temporary.
(imo, that’s part of the reason why they’re so very hateful towards Jack, bc Jack /is/ immortal, and potentially /could/ be a threat; luckily for them, the doctor is always an ass where jack harkness is concerned kjdfghfk)
but yes, since the companions could never be on the Doctor’s level, they’re not a proper threat (it’s the ‘you’re the puppy’ thing Missy says to Clara). but! that does not mean they can’t be useful and/or even fun. The Doctor’s always out there trying to defend/save humans, sure, but with the companions, they’re /attached/, which means it’s even more fun to threaten them, bc it makes it easier to get a reaction out of the Doctor. But I also think sometimes the Master ends up kinda liking the companion? Missy and Clara is number one example in my mind and g o d, I’m not by any means a s8/9 expert but Missy and Clara are so FUN. I could do paragraphs, but instead I will just link my favorite fic involving them (it also involves 12, and bill, in the final chapter, AND it’s in my humble opinion arguably the funniest dw fic on ao3)
But! This is all pre-TTC! Back when the Master could rely on the Doctor being their equal, and, vice versa, on their being the Doctor’s (only) equal; back when the Master still knew that no matter what happened, in the end, it’d be them and the doctor together, just like they’d started.
Except that now the Doctor’s had this whoooole entire life (lives!!!!) before they met the Master. And they will keep having more of those, after the Master. The Master is now /temporary/. The Master is now a companion like any other.
In short: ouch
(As an aside, this is my read on what I believe is the Master’s thought process; imo, in the Doctor’s mind, the Master is still very much apart, regardless of whether you subscribe to that ‘the master is the kid who pushed bby!doctor off that cliff’ theory, but that’s a different essay altogether)
I think it’s fairly interesting, if slightly frustrating when writing fic lol, that we don’t really see the Master interact with the fam, or at least not out of disguise. As O, he’s his usual meddling self; trying to pique Graham’s curiosity about the doctor, messing with Yaz a little… but beyond that, he doesn’t really acknowledge them much. Could be linked to the plot, sure, but to me it also makes sense that he’d be a lot less personal with the companions than, say, Missy was. He v much encourages their being turned into Cybermen (which…. after bill?? dude. like I know it’s on purpose, (and Dhawan!Master vs the vault and Missy’s arc is its own rant) but dude.), but it’s, once more, mostly about upsetting the Doctor, more than about the companions specifically (then again, in TTC, he’s fairly one-track bc he’s revealing everything). All that to say, this is reason n°3453 why I’d like him to make a comeback next series or in the specials; I’m so curious to know whether he’d try to mess with Yaz more specifically, or if his new found ''''companion'''' status would make him Not Want To Do That
The similarities between the Doctor and the Master
This is one of the many, many things that make me go absolutely feral about them. Beyond the Master’s newfound belief that the Doctor is now some kind of god or w/e, the fact remains that these two??? They are so similar that it HURTS.
They of course have this fundamental difference in how they see the world, and have had it for a while (although, despite my abysmal knowledge of classic who, I do attribute this difference at least partly, to the Doctor’s travels with Ian and Barbara, and then generally to the influence their companions have had on them), /but/…. There’s still a reason why they became so close at the Academy, why they clicked together so well, and why they’re still now, thousands of years later, orbiting each other with absolutely no way to pull back. At their core, these two are still the two smart as hell kids who’d trade ideas and thoughts and concepts at a thousand miles a minute, and just be so gleeful that they have someone who can match them, match their speed, and understand exactly what they’re getting at. It also means they were probably insufferable, but let’s be real, they still are, and that’s why we love them.
It’s something we get a pretty good look at in s10, notably in the scene in the monks ep where Missy has 12 guess how the monks work, and it’s one of the many reasons why I adore that series. Bc despite all their history, they still fall back into that rhythm in seconds, and they don’t even notice. A team up with 13 and Dhawan!master would be even more captivating imo, bc they are so hostile. It’d have to be forced by exterior circumstances (and I don’t think even that would exclude 13 decking him at some point or other), but the fact is…. They are Still similar, despite both their beliefs that they’re not, and seeing them fall back into that synchronicity??? Into that back and forth??? My KINGDOM for this, chibs, please.
The funniest part is that they’d BOTH deny it. It’s not like Missy trying to prove that they’re not so different; the Master now also believes they’re no longer alike, but an outside eye like a companion? Like Yaz (aka a companion who has gone from hero worship of the Doctor to having had months to obsess over everything the Doctor has ever done (including possibly the darker things 👀) + being (I think??) a lot more wary of the Doctor (one day you will [leave again]); Yaz would see it, and she’d call it out and for all the Doctor would deny it…. She’d see it too.
This is WAY longer than I expected and I hope it makes some kind of sense (I am not used to having to structure meta thoughts outside of discord messages and Tumblr tags so apologies if this is helplessly rambly jdhgf), but!! It was very fun!! Thank you for the ask and the opportunity!!

okay so going through each of them-
i'd wanna save eleven, amy and rory (and river) because they're just pure nostalgia, a fun time, eleven's era is elite even if the s5 arc breaks my brain. and they're in 2.5 seasons so to get rid of them would get rid of a massive chunk of the show and almost all of eleven's era. but then maybe i'd be cool with getting rid of them because as much as i do absolutely stan, none of them are characters i spend too much time thinking about or obsessing over unless i'm actually watching their episodes.
i'd wanna save twelve and clara because they make me crazy with how in love they are and they're potentially my fave doctor companion romance (it switches between them and thasmin). they also take up a big chunk of twelve's time on the show so to get rid of them would be a massive part of the show gone. but then there's also the fact that while i love twelve and clara, s8 and s9 aren't two seasons that i would consider to be my faves, which tbf isn't saying much bc i love every dw series even if they are ranked lower, but still.
i'd wanna save twelve and bill because they are just THE doctor companion friendship duo. and nardole is great to have around. and also missy my absolute beloved. and like, to get rid of missy's redemption? potentially my fave arc of the whole show???? but then there's also the fact that i think one of the the reasons s10 and these relationships hit so well is because of s8/9's existence. so if i just kept s10, would it still feel the same if i didn't have the first two seasons of build up?
and finally i'd wanna save thirteen, yaz and dan because first of all i love them and second of the idea of erasing the thasmin pay off after two seasons of waiting sounds horrific. but then there's also the fact that they're only in 9 episodes together and i love flux but a serialised season is not my fave at all. so to choose to keep it over all the others feels a lil weird.

still thinking about how the main person yaz seems to feel the need to defend herself to with “no nothing” is dan, even though the doctor is looking Right At Her, presumably because yaz doesnt think the doctor would even suspect her of the thing she hopes is not obvious

apologies i don’t know enough on this topic so i can’t comment on the historical accuracy of this
first of all why the fuck is chibnall here? what the fuck does a white man have to say about the 1950s american civil rights movement that a black woman couldn’t say on her own. this is not your story to tell chibnall
out of the 4 episodes written by pocs, 3 of them are co-written with chibnall, idk about you but i think i would just trust these people to be able to write a script on their own. the way chibnall has to to stick his fingers in all the pies writing 75% of the stories in his era is extremely territorial.
at least they have a black director as well
according the tardis wiki this is the first episode to feature a historical figure since day of the doctor (im guessing this excludes robin hood) i actually never noticed this, that’s crazy
on iplayer there’s a subtitle which reads ‘in this episode, there are familiar prejudices to face for the doctor’s friends’ which is weirdest fucking content warning ive seen. like im not expert but surely you’d put something like ‘this episode contains themes of racism’
it’s very funny that it’s still the doctor that initiates going outside to have look, rather than any of the companions being enthusiastic that they’re actually in a time machine. again none of them give any motivation why they wish to travel with the doctor
pet peeve of mine is when the companions don’t dress in periodic clothing, that’s part of the fun!! i don’t think they do at all this season which is super disappointing
