okay, 'fragile' by laufey is so jegulus coded I cannot listen to the song without thinking of them

so im gonna ramble a bit hooray

like???? this is so definitely talking about regulus' pureblooded upbringing and his reaction to being around james/sirius & co. and just him learning that the ideologies that he'd absorbed are so not true

and james just being his little james self bursting through all of regulus' barriers (lovingly of course, but still)

and the chorussss, like a ballroom scene

what i would give to read a ballroom scene between these two just filled with tension and they're so absorbed with each other that its like the entire room just melts away

like imagine theyre at hogwarts and its one of the dances and lets say they're in a set order or smthg and its james' and regulus' turn to go together (they have to bc of the set order) and its like this mix of hate and interest and heat and they're both kinda enamored and james has his hands on regulus' hips and regulus' hands are locked behind james' neck

I have been thinking about responding to this at all but it seems like i have a lot to say, so here goes.

Due to contrary belief i draw for myself. I draw for me because i enjoy it and it makes me happy. And if it makes others happy then thats a lovely bonus. I draw because i love the bit of magic and creative freedom of being able to put that on paper.

What i don’t do is draw for other people to give me validation or to give them satisfaction. What’s getting weird is that you are so upset over characters that are written by a terf. Someone that is extremely harmful. Characters that DO NOT EXIST.

I’m sick of this endless debate of "oh but CANONICALLY sirius was taller" who the fuck cares. In the movies remus had like a whole head on sirius.

You know whats the one wonderful thing about this fandom? Every single artists and writers version of these characters. They take them and make them their own. I love the way i can read 10 wolfstar fics and all ten of them are wildly different versions of them. They fall in love with each other unconditionally and i with them.

I’ve been told I’m not valid, that i don’t deserve to exist, that i should have DIED in surgery. There is really vile and hateful people in this fandom but you know what. I’m not here for you, my art isn’t for you it’s for ME.

I would like to say I resent this fandom but it’s brought me so much joy as well. I’ve met some of the most talented and wonderful people. I met my very best friend because of this fandom. I traveled places to see people i love because of dead gay wizards. I have found a place that is so wonderfully accepting. A queer community that I will never have in real life. The amount of freedom and expression is something that drew me in and will make me stay.

I hope you get the day you deserve, and I will continue my life where I live it for me and no one else <3

Oof, this is a hard one. Is a dead fish kiss okay? I do have a heat sorting on the spreadsheet of doom, and there are some with no kissing at all, but a dead fish kiss is in most of the HEA ones.

BLs with No Kisses

21 Days Theory (Thailand, YouTube) - the only thing I didn't like about this pulp was the fact that they don't kiss, so... yeah, this is my first pick for you. Very YA first love angsty, fantastic queer rep and side characters. RECOMMENDED

My Esports Genius Brother (China, Gaga?) - it's hella odd censored bromance but enjoyable. No real angst tho.

HIStory My Hero (Taiwan, Viki) - basically a BL with no sex or kissing, but also body-swap so is it BL? I can't remember the end but I think it's happy?

Silhouette of Your Voice AKA Hidamari ga Kikoeru (Japan, ????) - this 2017 yaoi adaptation is a full on BL just no kissing at all. The source manga (I Hear the Sunspot) is a favorite of mine and the casting was decent. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for you (but not in general). Grey only.

Love of Siam (Thailand, ????) ALL THE ANGST, I'm pretty sure the most they do is hug, I could be v wrong though because too sad for me to ever rewatch. Very formative to the Thai BL industry.

The Lover (BL cut) (Korea ????) sometimes you can find the BL cut on YT, it has slapstick comedic sexualized moments that are maybe a little homophobic (or something), no actual sex or kissing, but no angst at all. (Korea's working some shizz out with this early offering.)

Kabe Koji AKA Kabesaa Doujin Sakka no Neko Yashiki-kun wa Shounin Yokkyuu wo Kojirasete iru (Japan, Viki) - I watched this and I was excited about it before it aired, but I seem to have expunged it from my memory and kept no screen caps in annoyance, so that's all I got.

Love in Spring AKA Spring of Crush (Korea, ????) - a crossdressing historical that flew utterly under the radar. I decided it just wasn't really BL, but it has BL aspects and it's kinda a little queer... or something. Grey only.

Evening Cafe (Thai pulp, YouTube) - No heat and no kisses, but a decent lead pair, about a boy who works in a cafe and the new employee who has a crush on him. That’s it, that's the whole story.

A Shoulder to Cry On (Korea, Viki) - Has no kissing and many people found it really good as @isisanna-blog reminded me, thank you). It certainly has ALL THE ANGST. (I did not like it at all, but I'm a terrible judge of this kind of BL.)

What Did You Eat Yesterday? (Japan ???) - this is such a lovely show, very warm and comforting and slice of life. There is very little angst, they too old for that shit, but little to no sexual content either. It's very warm and loving. A safe extremely yet queer show - and oh boy do we not get many of those. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Cherry Magic AKA 30 Years of Virginity Can Make You a Wizard AKA 30-sai made Dotei Da to Mahotsukai ni Nareru rashii AKA Cheri Maho (Japan ????) - there's sort of some bed tussling and implied sex but you could imagine them just being snuggles for the mains, the sides have dead fish kiss. In general there's some angst but not much. It's fluffy and great. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Bonus: overt ace representation for one of the side characters.

Meow Ears Up (Thailand Viki) - sides may kiss? I enjoyed this pulp especially at the start, the premise is fun. I think my biggest complaint was lack of kissing.

My Love Mix Up AKA Kieta Hatsukoi (Japan Viki), a case could be made for a demi seme in this BL. So much frenetic angst around bisexual identity crisis. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

My Ride (Thailand Gaga) - my favorite Thai BL pulp the sides have a good kiss and the mains do kiss but it's v dead fish, not at all sexual, and it comes at the very end. Otherwise extremely chaste, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this BL, queer and complex and engaging.

I Want to See Only You AKA Kimi no Koto Dake Mite Itai (Japan ????) - This is a beautiful piece of cinema well acted, about two boys who are opposite personalities and grew up together. The only kiss is the one pictured above, v dead fish. Full review here.

Nobleman Ryu's Wedding (Korea WeTV) - 12th Night goes BL in this cross dressing historical that ended up feeling like a Cinderfella fairy tale, lightly dramatic and utterly charming. Full review. There is one dead fishy kiss at the end but it's otherwise aggressively pure.

If you like this last style of KBL (with a kiss at the end being okay, I have quite a few more to recommend). Until 2022, most KBLs only had one dead fish kiss in them, so you are pretty safe with pre 2022 KBLs. They tend to be quite chaste and de-sexualized. Other good examples: Wish You, Light on Me.

“Misappropriate. Dishonestly or unfairly take something, especially money, belonging to another for one's own use,” Gale said.

Tessa sat back on her knees and looked up at Gale. “I love it when you use big words, babe.”

Astarion leaned against the wall, his eyes on Tessa, and huffed out a soft laugh. “She’s being sarcastic, Gale. In case you missed that.”

“It’s not sarcasm. I like learning. Sometimes. But, anyway. Gale, if it will make you feel better about this . . .” She gestured vaguely at the dead guard. “I’ll put some of our gold in his pockets. How much does a funeral cost these days?”

Tessa was actually in the middle of stuffing a handful of gold from her bag into the guard’s pocket when four more guards walked into the room.

“Shit.” Astarion tossed Tessa a glance, daggers at the ready, waiting for her to approve the next attack.

Tessa looked from Astarion to Gale, who now looked particularly glib. A word she’d recently learned from him.

Tessa stood and stepped away from the body. “We can explain . . .”

They could not explain.

In an effort to appease Gale and avoid further bloodshed, the three of them were dragged off to jail.

Tessa leaned against the bars of her jail cell, one she had the misfortune of sharing with Astarion. “How long before Minsc finds us?” She’d already tried — and failed — to rip the door off.

“We should find our own way out of this. Or settle in for the night,” Gale said from the other side of a brick wall.

“Oh, please,” Astarion said as he eased up next to Tessa. “I’ll have us out of here before you can — eh, you finish that sentence for me, Gale. I’ll get to work.”

Tessa gasped in surprise as Astarion slid his open hand up the back of her neck and into her hair. “Astarion — wha —”

Astarion tugged her head back and locked eyes with her. Tessa’s heart slammed against her chest, she knew he could hear it, and she hated that it gave her away.

“This will only take a moment,” he said with a smirk. Astarion held her in place, his grip tightening. He reached into her hair with his other hand. With two dexterous fingers, he plucked a single lock pick from her wild curls and twirled it in front of her face.

“What the fuck, Astarion? How long has that been there?” Tessa untangled herself from his hand and pushed him away.

“Don’t be ungrateful, darling,” Astarion teased.

“Tessa? What’s going on?” Gale asked.

“If Astarion doesn’t fuck this up we’ll be out of here before Minsc even realizes we’re missing,” Tessa said.

Gale sighed. “Ah. That is a relief. A great relief indeed.”

Astarion reached through the bars and started fiddling with the lock.

Tessa watched Astarion work and decided to take a shot at trying to make him just as flustered as he’d made her. “Yeah. A relief. I was worried we’d have to resort to more erotic forms of entertainment to get us through the night.”

The lock clicked open.

No? Fuck.

That wasn’t the lock.

“Tell me I didn’t just hear our only lock pick breaking,” Tessa said.

Astarion stepped away from the jail door. “You didn’t just hear our only lock pick breaking.”

“That’s great. You have another one?” Tessa ran her fingers through her hair, trying to find out what else Astarion had stashed in there.

Astarion tossed the broken lock pick onto the floor of the cell. “No.”

“Then why did you say that?”

“Because you told me to,” he said.

“Fuck.” Tessa shook out her hair, just to be sure. Nothing.

“What’s going on now?” Gale asked.

“Our escape plan failed. We’re stuck here,” Tessa said.

Two long strides were all it took and Astarion was invading her space again, smiling down at her with that sly, fanged, grin of his. “So, about those more erotic forms of entertainment, you mentioned . . .”

Tessa’s breath caught in her throat. Her chest and face suddenly felt so warm. Was she blushing? Fuck. “Ah, it was just a joke.”

Astarion pushed forward, a predatory glint in his eyes. Tessa stumbled until her back hit the brick wall that separated them from Gale.

“You’re too close, Astarion,” Tessa whispered. Her breaths came in hot, uneven gasps now.

“Am I?” Astarion placed his hands on either side of her head, enclosing her. His breath ghosted across her lips. He smelled like wine — and blood. Why was that so hot?

“What’s going on? Why are you so quiet?” Gale asked.

Astarion towered over her. Had it always been so warm in here? The smell of him enveloped her now. Astarion leaned forward, his lips nearly brushing against hers as he whispered, “Yes, Tessa. What’s going on?”

Tessa’s body reacted before she had time to process exactly what was happening. She jolted back, slamming her head against the brick wall.

“What was that? Are you okay? Someone speak to me,” Gale said.

Astarion laughed softly and pulled away. “I have a proposition for you. Both of you.”

Tessa somehow managed to hear Astarion’s voice over the sound of her own heartbeat pounding away in her ears. “Oh?”

“Don’t be coy now,” Astarion purred. “You two aren’t as discreet as you think. I’ve heard you talking about me.”

“What exactly have you heard?” Gale asked.

“Enough. Just know that I’m very interested,” Astarion said.

Did he just? Is he for real? Tessa stared up at him, searching his face for any hint of doubt. “Really? What happened to not being interested in a love triangle with Gale?”

“Don’t ruin the moment, darling,” Astarion’s lip curled up in disgust. “It’s not a love triangle. It’s sex. Surely that’s something we can all agree on? Besides, I’m ready to start . . . exploring again. And why not with someone I trust?”

Tessa’s breath hitched. “That’s good enough for me.”

“Good.” Astarion tapped Tessa’s lips with two fingers. “Gale?”

Astarion didn’t wait for a response, he nudged Tessa’s thighs apart with his leg — she rolled her hips, grinding against him.

Tessa bit back a moan. There was that telltale squirming in her brain. Gale wanted in. She let him.

There was no holding back the torrent of arousal that slammed into him. Gale watched through her eyes as Astarion stared down at her — pupils blown wide.

If she had any apprehension, that faded when she felt Gale’s excitement mingle with hers.

Tessa reached out to him through their shared connection.

This though, this was new. There was something deeply thrilling about kissing Astarion while Gale was inside her head — he found it deeply thrilling too. Tessa rolled her hips again, frantically grinding herself against his thigh.

“F-fuck,” she whimpered. Tessa squeezed her eyes shut and bit back another moan.

Astarion pulled away from the kiss and pressed his forehead against hers, laughing softly. Tessa continued to grind against him, her hands squished between their bodies as she clung to his shirt.

“Open your eyes, Tessa,” Astarion demanded.

She did as she was told. She trembled with anticipation as Astarion searched her face. He wasn’t looking at her though, he was looking for Gale.

Fen and i were in the same discord server, and we interacted in there a little bit and I thought oh this person is cool AND they wrote that adorable jeggy fic, I’m going to be brave for the first time in my life and dm them. Then i did, we chatted a bit, then bonded over our shared passion over anchient Egypt, made a anubis sirius au and went crazy over that. And the rest is history

THEN for the other rat. Fen and syd were already friends and fen was like 'hmmm i want my friends to be friends' so they put us in a group together and introducing us like in elementary school. I don’t completely remember how it went but syd and i started talking as well and got along :)

And THEN i got to meet both of them at london pride irl hehe. And we talked about all the dead gay wizards, heard the lingo of the britts, scarred old ladies, talked about little psychopaths who play exy, and laughed a whole lot. I also got to meed syd another time when she came to the netherlands and we slept on some yoga boat and walked around the bookstore, sat down there and had more good times

I love them both very much, i’m so thankful to have such lovely friends really. I’d do anything to make them happy

10 BEST Low Heat BLs - Soft & Sweet (Safe to Watch with Parents)

Not sure I am the right one to answer since I'm the opposite of a prude but I'll give it my best shot. Please keep in mind that these are romances, so there will be at least a kiss (in most of them), I'm thinking Disney level, so they might also be okay for kids, but as I always say with kids, you know your kid best, you have to judge what they are okay to watch.

1. Cherry Magic

AKA 30 Years of Virginity Can Make You a Wizard AKA 30-sai made Dotei Da to Mahotsukai ni Nareru rashii AKA Cheri Maho

Japan 2020 - CrunchyRoll or Fan Subbed

The sweetest fluffiest magical realism BL, packaged as a pinning office romance, very low heat (practically chaste) but the cutest. It’s truly great. It’s not in my top 10 of all time list simply because the heat level is too low for me, personally.

No kisses for the leads, side couple kiss is v dead fish.

2. Light On Me

Korea 2021 - Viki

Korea does an elegant pastiche of traditional live action yaoi but all tropes are cleverly deployed to bolster one of the most riveting love triangles ever put on screen… and I don’t like love triangles. LonM strategically tailors classic BL tropes to 2 different semes resulting in pristine pacing, plot, and character development, explicitly serving narrative a-not just to tick boxes. LoM is a master class in this technique. (If you write fanfic or romance you should study this show.) Full review.

Very low heat, Korea in peak chaste form (pre their 2022 “oh, boys can kiss” epiphany). But there is dildo humor.

3. My Love Mix Up

AKA Vanishing My First Love AKA Kieta Hatsukoi

Japan 2021 - Viki

Completely adorable absolute chaos bi disaster muffin falls accidentally and completely in love with his classmate, hijinx and friendship result. What’s great about this BL is that it deals with things like homophobia, asexuality, and one sided affection in an extremely gentle and palatable way. Perhaps sometimes too subtle, but I believe this is a great show for younger audiences, particularly if you want to spark conversations about identity, sexuality, authority, truthfulness, and consent. Oh and it’s funny.

No kissing at all.

4. Seven Days: Monday-Thursday & Friday-Sunday

Japan 2015 - grey

Never doubt my ability to recommend this show. One of the best live action yaois ever made, with perfectly structured angst, fantastic characters and acting, and no problematic tropes (rare in Japanese BL).

The leads have excellent chemistry although it’s low heat there’s still some really cute mutual kisses.

5. Wish You: Your Melody in My Heart (movie)

Korea 2020 - Viki

Set in the music industry featuring a talented singer and the pianist who falls in love with him (and his music), subtle and achingly adorable. High production, low heat, short run, very tame, and Korea, so more of a western style. It’s not the most logical story though. No coming out, exists in the “Korean BL bubble universe” where everything is just fine and dandy with the gays.

Kisses but they tame and no sexy.

6. He’s Coming To Me

Thailand 2019 - YouTube

Boy and ghost boy fall in love, must solve ghost’s murder. Peak pining but also pretty tame, features my favorite sweet but important coming out sequence. Atmospheric study in rural Japan meets complex family dynamics built on a romance framework of city boy meets country boy, grumpy/sunshine. It’s beautiful and icy sweet. Slow moving in places but ultimately worth the patience. Full review.

Thai BL grew up with this pulp - a truly lovely and special little show featuring the extremely rare pairing of sunshine/sunshine AKA a cinnamon roll couple. Mature explorations of relationships using one of the softest, sweetest and most innocent friends to lovers vehicles. Kindly, overworked doctor meets broken-hearted motorcycle taxi driver in an “other side of the tracks” slow burn romance. The support cast is excellent, making for great friendship groups and family dynamics. With honest queer rep that adds to, but doesn’t impede the story, and genuine conversation about the nature of class, wealth, and classism, not to mention communication, honesty, and respect for boundaries, you can’t go wrong with this show. In other news, I am a sucker for a single dimple. Full review.

9. Mr. Unlucky Can Only Kiss

Mr Chronically Unlucky (another adorable chaos muffin) and Mr Always Lucky end up dating after they meet at uni orientation. It’s JAPAN yet they kissed in the first episode. What freaky alt-reality did I enter into? That’s all they kiss tho, over which I was a touch disappointed. Still I spent far too much of my time with this show biting my knuckles and squealing “THEY’RE SO CUTE!” It is very slapstick Japanese style comedic (light) BL reminds me of Cherry Magic. So if you like that style of BL you’ll adore this show.

Amusing story: I paused mid the most tooth-achingly adorable first date in the entire universe and Viki was like “something missing?” and I was like “MY HEART YOU BASTARDS”

A not really BL about middle-aged gay couple who live together, one of whom loves to cook and the other who loves to eat. That’s it. That’s all that happens. There’s a bit of coming out drama, but hardly really drama. It’s all very repressed but also incredibly restful and calming. Like classical music.
