its work in progress wednesday thursday, its fuck it friday thursday, its Impatient Thursday (new game I’m making up right now where theres no themed tag game for the day but you’re writing and want to share, please consider yourself tagged if you are also in this situation)
Since the coma, waking up has been an uneasy thing for Buck. There’s always a few moments, a few minutes, where his own bed is unfamiliar and his own walls strange. It’s a lonely, lost little feeling, he thinks, to come aware and not know his place in the world.
Today he wakes up in Eddie’s arms and knows exactly where he is.
Well, not in Eddie’s arms, exactly. They’re not really embracing, or even wrapped up together particularly closely. Eddie is on his stomach, face turned away from Buck. Their arms are pressed together the entire length from shoulder to wrist, and Buck’s busted ankle is hooked over the back of Eddie’s leg. Probably helpful, elevating it is good, he’d meant to put a pillow under it before he fell asleep.
So they’re not holding each other but they’re here, in Eddie’s bed, and Buck doesn’t feel lost for even a second. He turns his hand and the angle is a little awkward but he’s able to thread a few of their fingers together. Eddie’s breath stutters a little but he doesn’t wake up just yet, so Buck takes the time alone to study him like there’s an exam coming up, as if knowing everything about Eddie Diaz is something he needs any practice for.

more of the will talk fic bc they're finally talking about it and this is so close to being done! (hopefully🤞 as always it's getting longer than expected haha)

"(...) He- he didn’t even tell me until like a year later, when he-” Buck takes a sharp breath, an even more unpleasant memory replacing the previous one. Suddenly he can feel the metallic taste of blood in his mouth, and the rough asphalt scraping his hands, and he needs to take a deep breath. Tommy tightens his arm around him, maybe he can feel Buck tensing up, can sense that whatever he's about to say is upsetting. “After he got shot.” Buck finally whispers.
“You know,” Tommy starts, his tone bright and casual but gentle, clearly wanting to lighten the mood, always just knowing what Buck needs, and Buck’s so grateful. He doesn’t want to talk about all those traumatic things now, that’s a whole other topic, that they scratched the surface of already, and soon they’d go deeper, but not today. Today it’s just for context for the other important conversation they’re having. “I’m starting to think I lucked out that I left the 118. You guys seem to be cursed or something.” he teases, pressing a gentle kiss to Buck’s temple, and an easy, breathy laugh bubbles out of Buck, tension leaving his body, as he melts against his boyfriend.

the thing that gets to me about buddie posts on here is that people will be like "look at them! friends don't do that! there is no platonic explanation for that" and well. friends do do that. their relationship is deep and beautiful and intense but their actions alone aren't exclusive to romantic partners. what — to me — makes buddie romantic over platonic boils down to their intentions. someone making their best friend their child's legal guardian isn't unheard of. but eddie did it and kept it a secret. eddie thought "this is the only man i trust with my son. this is the only person in this world that will hold my heart gently." and then eddie didn't tell him. that makes me crazier than the actual legal document. a normal friendship would discuss this. it'd be an open conversation. the fact that eddie can't bring himself to say it because he knows that what it means to him is too much to look in the eye? because he knows that telling buck about his decision would be the equivalent of bleeding all over the both of them again? that's what makes it romantic. eddie frantically chasing after buck's limp body after the lightning strike isn't necessarily because he's in love with him. plenty of really close friends would do that for each other. it's when eddie desperately tries to pull buck up to him instead of lowering him that makes it more. because eddie didn't climb the ladder to get buck down to safety, eddie climbed up the ladder to get buck to him. the desperation, the intent behind their actions, the way they can't look at each other when they're hurt because it's impossible to deal with even the idea of living in a world without each other says so much more than any of buck's acts of service alone. a best friend would help you take care of yourself and your kid after you have a mental breakdown, if you're physically injured, if you need help. it's the fact that nobody asked buck, it's the fact that he's the first person chris called, it's the fact that bobby didn't bat an eye, because of course buck's there to help eddie. it's a given. who else in the whole world would it be? because they're everything to each other. in a way that's just a little too much, a little too codependent, toes the line of friendship and lovelovelove a little too carelessly. they're not buck and eddie, best friends, they're buckandeddie, one word. and not because of any of action. because they're in massive stupid head over heels gay love with each other.

have we ever thought about like. buck genuinely just. being okay with being in love with eddie, even if he thinks that eddie doesn't love him back in that way. knowing eddie does still love him no matter what, because they're best friends before anything else. buck being comfortable in his love for eddie and yeah, maybe he wants to kiss the smile off eddie's face, wants to hold his hand and go on dates and fall asleep curled up together every night and wake up with their limbs tangled every morning. yeah, maybe he wants to map the entirety of eddie's body with his tongue and whisper sweet nothings in his ear and slow dance in the living room even when there's no music playing. of course he wants that, wants all of it. but he's still happy with how he and eddie are now, best friends, buckandeddie, attached at the hip, living in each other's pockets, cracking jokes, shooting the shit and grabbing beers for each other, bantering in that way only the best of friends do, no underlying tension. because it's buck and eddie. best friends before all else. and buck's happy with that.

Tommy watching Buck and Eddie and realizing that a threesome is going to be much more achievable than he thought.
yeah. yes. like, he's had the thought in passing, of course. who wouldn't? you have two gorgeous guys—one of whom is your best friend, one of whom is your boyfriend—and at least two thirds of your little trio are queer. so. he's thought about it, of course. in the shower when he's jerking off before work or when he needs to wind down before bed, he's thought of having eddie's cock down his throat while buck fucks him from behind.... and he's thought of having eddie on his back while buck fucks eddie's throat... and... well. basically, point is, tommy has thought about it in extensive detail. but it's always been just a thought, you know? nothing that reaches beyond the boundaries of his mind. except.
then he sees them at the bachelor party and it's like a light goes on in his head. because he knew buck and eddie were buckandeddie, i mean. you can't be in close proximity to the 118 and not know. but NOW he sees them in action—sees the way they're freakishly synchronized and the way they lean in to each other like they just can't help it... sees the way there's this unspoken tether between them that's starting to look more and more like hunger, like yearning the longer it pulls tighter and tighter—and he's like. oh. this could be fun. so something sexy comes on—some sensual music with a lot of bass and buck and eddie are just kind of dancing together casually. not on each other, just near each other. and tommy is like... huh. time to make myself apart of that sandwich. so he goes over and kisses buck. and i mean REALLY kisses buck—tongue and saliva and a little bit of teeth—and when he pulls back, eddie is staring at them with such a hungry and intense gaze that tommy feels his cock twitch. and he raises his eyebrows at eddie, and it's kind of a challenge, kind of a question—"you wanna?"—and eddie looks at buck, because of course he does, so tommy looks at buck, and the "you can say no if you want to" look passes between them. but buck is turned on. tommy can see it clear as fucking day. and buck shrugs, pupils blown and a little breathless, and it's permission, it's a "go for it." so tommy wraps his hand around the back of eddie's neck and hauls him into a kiss and feels him go absolutely boneless beneath his touch and. yeah. kissing buck is tommy's favorite thing in the world but kissing eddie is a close second. tommy is still kissing eddie when he feels his boyfriend come up behind him and run his hands up and down his body, from his chest down to his cock and back up again. and buck is making these barely-audible noises in tommy's ear and eddie is swaying forward, breathing heavily like he's trying to crawl inside tommy's mouth, and tommy is so turned on there's a slight possibility he might die from it and...
yeah. yeah. they fuck nasty. poor chimney rip

seen your face before (someone find a mirror)
Because I’m predictable, have some Chim POV S6 Spec...
For all that Chim knows he missed a lot of time with the 118, it still takes him by surprise whenever he’s hit with a reminder that, oh, he really missed a lot of time. Like when he finally came back, but Eddie was gone and there were new hires in his place. Like how Buck was suddenly the seasoned firefighter giving advice instead of the one who needed it.
(Although, his love life was still a mess. Chim was glad to know that things hadn’t changed that much.)
And then Eddie came back and—
The problem with missing so much time is that Chim isn’t always sure what pieces are new and which ones are things he simply wasn’t able to see before. Because they’re all guilty of making assumptions, he isn’t above that, but the question lingers in his mind all the time now—is he different? Or is everyone else? Or is it some combination of both?
The other problem is that uncertainty means he isn’t sure whether he can ask.
He tries once—
“Have you noticed anything different about Buck and Eddie?” It slips out over drinks with Hen, and Chim nearly bites his tongue after because he’s been trying to avoid exactly the look that she levels him with.
“No?” Hen replies. “They’re the same as they’ve always been. Why?”
And he doesn’t know how to explain without sounding a little crazy. He doesn’t know how to explain, because she’s right, but somehow the same as they’ve always been seems very much like…well…
Like they’re together.
Chim shrugs instead of saying that. “I thought they might have been closer since I got back. But maybe I just got desensitized to the BuckandEddie of it all.”
Hen’s brows knit together. “You don’t think they’re—no. Not possible. We would know.”
“Yeah,” he agrees, as much for his own benefit as hers. “Yeah, of course we would. I’m seeing things.”
And the subject drops.
But he keeps noticing things.
Things like the way that Buck has Eddie’s therapy appointments on his calendar. Things like how Buck and Eddie talk about Christopher the way that he and Maddie talk about Jee-Yun. Things like the way Eddie looks at Buck when Buck’s back is turned or how whenever Eddie touches Buck, Buck will lean into it like a flower seeking sunlight.
And it’s not new, is the thing. When Chim really thinks about it, he doesn’t think it is. Because he can recall Buck talking his ear off in a Christmas tree lot about how Eddie hadn’t told them he was having a secret affair with his wife. He can recall Buck losing his mind as much as any worried spouse Chim’s ever come across when Eddie was trapped in a well. He can recall a fight in the middle of a grocery store, and playful teasing about summer camp, and Buck basically taking over the Diaz household after Eddie was shot, and another argument over patients in an ER—
When did they all collectively decide none of those things meant anything? When did they decide that Buck and Eddie were…what? Just a couple of heterosexual besties?
Because, god, if it was him and Maddie—
Hell, it was him and Maddie. Him and Maddie sitting on the couch in her apartment while Buck looked at them and listed all the reasons that they were clearly dating without admitting it.
And it’s still him and Maddie, frankly. Because she is the mother of his child and the love of his life and he can’t be with her, but he can’t imagine being with anyone else either. He can’t imagine even trying.
She’s the love of his life. So no one else would ever be able to come close.
And when he looks at Buck and Eddie lately…it seems an awful lot like they’re the same.
But Chim can’t talk about it. He can’t talk about it, because nobody else seems to see it.
So he watches. He pays attention. And he thinks.

Hey batter batter?
Okay so! I don't know why I keep coming up with professional athlete AUs considering I don't follow any professional sports!!!! However, my mother is a HUGE baseball fan and got me tickets for a game tomorrow, so baseball was on my mind, and this just kind of... happened...
I don't have any prose written yet but here is the premise:
Buck and Eddie are professional baseball players for the Los Angeles Angels (good thing LA has two teams because if I had them play for the Dodgers I would get disowned)
Buck is a catcher - he has an encyclopedic knowledge of seemingly every player in the league which means he is great at making pitch calls (an important role for catchers)
Buck was a hotshot rookie and still had his Buck 1.0 phase, but he's settled into his Buck 2.0 phase by the time Eddie shows up
Eddie (like Ryan Guzman) is a left handed pitcher
He received a lot of attention in high school and got recruited to play in college, but then Shannon happened and he joined the Army
However, in this AU he gets shot during his first tour, not his second and he comes back to Texas and an old coach reaches out to him with an opportunity.
His journey to the MLB is kind of similar to David Peralta's, and after a season playing independent ball, he gets signed as a free agent in the minor leagues and keeps climbing up the ranks
For those not in the know, a "battery," which is a pitcher catcher duo, is incredibly important to a team because they pretty much determine the defensive strategy of the team
Basically having a strong bond between the pitcher and the catcher is VERY important in baseball
But, of course, they (Buck) hate each other at first!!
Buck just found his footing, but here comes Eddie, who slots easily into the team and the fans love him right away, so he gets a little (a LOT) jealous
However, they are having a rough game, after a rough series, but they're one ahead in the ninth inning and they really don't want to go into the 10th, and Buck makes the decision to call a controversial pitch, and Eddie... Eddie trusts him
Of course they win and Eddie wins Buck over
And that's how Buck and Eddie become BuckandEddie, one of the best battery duos in the league
and I don't really know what happens next yet but they do end up having a lot of hot sex sooooo :)
this is part of the wip tag game! if you like any of them, send me an ask!!

thanks to @eddiediass for tagging me in wip wednesday! in a wild twist of events it’s a wednesday and i have a wip so here we are
Buck would always remember the first time Eddie kissed him. It’s not the sort of thing you forgot, he knew - but he’d often wondered if, with time, the memory would grow fuzzy around the edges, but it never did. It had been after a bad call - and Buck knew that didn’t exactly sound romantic, but it was, for them - and they’d been sitting in Eddies driveway for close to ten minutes, the silence between them heavy.
I can’t lose you. That’s what Eddie had said. He’d looked at Buck with those soft, kind eyes of his, and he’d pleaded with Buck to be more careful because he couldn’t live without him. And then he’d leaned in, and pressed a gentle, tentative kiss to the corner of Bucks mouth, telling Buck everything Eddie didn’t yet have the words for.
Buck would always remember the way it felt like every nerve in his body was sparking to life as Eddie kissed him - how could he forget, when it felt the exact same way now, four years and a house and engagement ring and the worst breakup of Bucks life later?
“Eddie,” Buck breathed, Eddie trying to kiss him again and again and again and -
“Don’t tell me to stop,” Eddie pleaded, and there was something in his voice that Buck didn’t quite recognise - desperation, of some kind, but Eddie was more closed off from Buck now and he couldn’t always read his ex-fiancé like a book, because the astronomically high walls Buck had spent four years tearing down had gone right back up the moment he’d pressed his engagement ring back into the palm of Eddies hand.
“We shouldn’t do this,” Buck tried, because he had to try and stop them from doing this and undoing the six months of painful healing they’d both been trying to pursue. Separately, now, of course, because they weren’t BuckandEddie anymore and they definitely weren’t a team anymore.
“But you want to,” Eddie breathed, carefully scanning every inch of Bucks face. “One last time. You want to. I know you, Buck, and I know you do.”

I saw earlier in the season you had an anon that had accused the show of queerbaiting and I sort of memory held it for after the season because I felt like the end of 5 would cement my thoughts. TBH I generally stay out of the QB debate because I'm a straight women so I stay in my lane. And I have shipped many different types of couples and when it doesn't work I know I get bummed. I can only imagine what it's like for someone in the community to loose representation. We all probably have shipped on the same shows, and honestly half the time I was probably shipping the straight couple who were together. However I have never engaged in ship wars and I hate to see it. Just want to put my non bias out there.
Usually I didn't agree with the QB accusation because I have found there are 3 factors, writers intent, actors chemistry, what the audience wants. And alot of the time I got why the audience wanted it, but I didn't think the writers teased they just couldn't help the fact that yeah the actors had amazing chemistry. So 911..
Writers Intent. .. I gave them a pass till the Christmas elf in 2, where they acknowledged it was a nod to the fan base. At that point they knew there were shippers and they didn't change course and make Anna and Taylor happy relationships, they leaned into the Buddie of it all.
Actors chemistry, Ryan and Oliver have it abundance. They also have leaned into and promoted it. Both have made acting choices that show Buddie is the story.
What the audience wants. Honestly I think the no homo crowd is tiny but can be loud. However I watch with my brother who laughed at the end of 5 and was like if they don't want to be a couple they should at least be roommates to save money. And my point with that is I don't think the GA would be surprised if they see the transition and OH moments. Like of course they love each other duh.
So for ever how many seasons are left, if Buddie doesn't become Canon I will go down on the ship and burn dumpsters with everyone. Don't care what LIs they bring on ext. They very much cemented them together at the end of this season and I will not except any substitutes.
Hi Nonnie, thank you for this!
I usually stay away from the queerbaiting question, because as long as a show is still on air, it can’t be fully addressed. It’s like trying to determine whether a certain book delivered a good character arc for its protagonist when we’re only half way through. We don’t have all the puzzle pieces just yet to reply to this in any definitive manner.
I do agree with you fully on the show being completely aware of what it was doing by 210 at the latest. And I also agree that I think, especially as they were asked about Buddie and were quite supportive about it, that Ryan and Oliver have leaned into it and allowed that bond and chemistry to inform their performances as Buck and Eddie, and as BuckandEddie. I have no doubt they’re not the only ones, and there’s a reason I made this rainbow set which highlights that even some of the crew seem to be leaning into this.
I don’t think this is so much the wishful thinking of the audience because (1) at the beginning, the Buddie shippers weren’t that many. Honestly, I feel like the explosion in fandom came after the tsunami arc, and then a second explosion after the shooting, which is well after 911 said during 210 and 218 with its entire chest, canonically and on screen, “we want you to be shipping these two, we’re glad if you are.”
And truly, I was done for by the time season 3a finished. Between the insane emotional intensity of the last Buddie scene in 303, and the overtly flirtatious tone of the kitchen scene in 309, I was already fully on team “there is no hetero explanation for this...” And it’s only gotten worse since! So yeah, I think to me, no matter what canon might say, Buddie IS it. Buddifer ARE a family unit, Buck and Eddie ARE in love. It’s just a matter of whether the show allows them to realize and act on it, or not. And I’ll take this beautiful story of love and family building with me, no matter how things turn out in canon.
Thank you again for this lovely sharing of your thoughts! xoxox
If you're looking for my ask replies, here is my ask tag! xoxox

"There has to be some kind of mistake, it said there'd be two beds" - fic prompt
“There- there has to be some kind of mistake,” Buck stammers, turning to look at Eddie with wide eyes, “they- they said there would be two beds, I-” They’re in Washington DC for a school field trip, having volunteered months ago to chaperone.
(“Can I come?” Buck had asked when Eddie told him about it, eyes lighting up.
“You wanna come on an elementary school field trip across the country?”
“Is the school paying?”
“I mean, yeah-”
“Then free vacation is all I’m hearing!”)
Eddie’s sure it was more than that- that Buck hadn’t wanted to miss out on the family trip, that he was just too nervous to say it out loud. No matter how many times Eddie tries to reassure him, he’s not sure Buck will ever completely believe he has a place in their family.
But now they’ve arrived in their hotel room- rented by the school, mind you- and found there to be not two queen sized beds but one. And- it’s fine. It’ll be fine. Sure, maybe it’ll be… cramped. Buck is 6’2” and nearly 200 lbs, and Eddie’s not far behind him. A queen sized bed will definitely be a tight fit for both of them.
Eddie licks his bottom lip, raising an eyebrow at the single bed and then at Buck. Buck’s got an awkward, nervous smile, brows raised and eyes practically begging Eddie to believe him. And well- maybe it’s a little mean, but Eddie can’t help but laugh. He reaches over a hand, squeezing Buck’s shoulder as he drops his duffel bag on the ground.
“It’s fine, Buck,” he insists, chuckling. “Seriously, it’s okay. Don’t worry about it.”
“I swear they said-”
Eddie shrugs, squeezing Buck’s shoulder tighter and taking a few more steps into the room. “It’s not a big deal. Mistakes happen. Plus, we’ve shared a bed before, right?” Eddie senses Buck tense beside him and flinches, regretting his words already. The only time they shared a bed was the night after Eddie’s breakdown.
Buck
After Eddie calmed down enough to try and sleep, Buck had insisted on taking the couch. Less than an hour later, Eddie’s nightmare-induced cries drew Buck to his room. They’d sat on his bed together, Buck holding Eddie as he thrashed and wiping away his tears, whispering soft words through Eddie’s sobs. It was a while before Buck’s grip loosened, before he started to shift. He was going to leave.
Panic had raced through Eddie, sharp and electric at the thought of Buck leaving him.
“Stay,” he had whispered, gripping Buck’s shirt and pressing his face further into the place where Buck’s shoulder met his neck. “Please.”
Buck was hesitant, unsure, when he replied, “Are you sure?” Eddie could only nod. Buck didn’t say anything else, just pressed his lips to the top of Eddie’s head and held him tighter. But he stayed. It wasn’t something Eddie was used to- neither asking someone to stay, nor them actually staying even if he does.
“Yeah,” Buck says now, pulling Eddie out of his memory. “I mean- we have. But- but I can go talk to the front desk-”
“Eh,” Eddie shrugs again, “not worth the trouble. It’ll be fine. Right?” He tries not to sound too excited at the prospect of sharing a bed with Buck. And- okay, so maybe he’ll definitely regret this later. Maybe it’s not the best idea he’s ever had. But- listen, he’s starting to come to terms with his sexuality and yeah, he knows there’s no future with Buck, but… he’s human, alright? Sue him. The idea excites him- of having Buck, pressed up against him; of the searing heat he feels whenever their skin presses together, even through clothes; of Buck’s solid form a steadying presence beside him; of waking up with one large arm thrown over his waist and a nose pressed into his shoulder. Because- Buck’s a cuddler. Yeah. That’s a thing and Eddie knows about it.
So maybe it took one panic-attack riddled night for Eddie to get completely addicted to falling asleep with his best friend- his straight best friend- wrapped around him, all lanky limbs and firm muscles. So what? It’s not like- he’s not going to do anything. It’s just… comforting. Safe. He sleeps better when Buck is there to catch him if he falls.
“Yeah,” Buck murmurs, gaze drifting back to the bed. He swallows, then forces a smile, tight with nerves. “It’ll- it’ll be fine.”
***
It’s not fine. Several hours later, after the first field trip excursion- a visit to the aquarium- according to their schedule, it’s ‘Lights Out’ hour. Which, apparently, is 9:30. And- Buck’s not really complaining. They had a shift before getting on the plane, so it’s been nearly two full days since he’s gotten a wink of sleep. So maybe it’s only, like, 6:30 (if he’s calculating the time zones correctly) for him, but he’s absolutely exhausted. Thus, the scheduled bed time actually works quite well for him, thank you very much.
That is- until he’s collapsed on the bed and sees through bleary eyes that Eddie, instead of joining him, is shuffling his feet at the foot of the bed, scratching at the back of his neck and turning bright red as Buck watches.
“Would you just-” Buck sighs, flopping an arm to the other side of the bed and looking pointedly at Eddie.
“I’m-” Eddie hesitates, biting his lip between his teeth. “I’m not sure this is the best idea. Maybe- maybe I should go ask the desk-”
“Okay, no,” Buck interrupts, propping himself up on one elbow. “I suggested that earlier and you said no, so how about you just get in the bed and we can deal with this tomorrow?”
“Buck, are you-”
“I swear to god, Diaz,” Buck threatens.
“Okay,” Eddie chuckles, holding his hands up in surrender. “Okay. It’s just-” Buck flops back into the pillows and throws an arm over his eyes, groaning. He just. Wants. To sleep. “Are you sure you don’t wanna… put some more clothes on?” Buck feels his face heating up and doesn’t dare move his arm. He’s wearing shorts and absolutely nothing else.
“I- I run hot,” he mumbles defensively, feeling his cheeks, neck, and probably chest flush pink.
“Hey, if you’re fine with it, so am I,” Eddie replies nonchalantly. Buck frowns slightly, wondering what he means, and risks moving his arm away. Just in time to see Eddie strip off his own shirt, leaving him in grey sweatpants. Oh.
“I-” Buck chokes on his words, his tongue suddenly feeling far too large for his mouth. He swallows, quickly looking away. “Yeah. Sounds, uh, sounds like a plan. Good plan. Yep.”
Eddie laughs and finally, finally comes around the side of the bed, pulling back the covers and slipping in beside Buck. Almost immediately, there’s not enough room. Eddie’s knee knocks into Buck’s thighs and Buck’s elbow is in Eddie’s ribs and Eddie’s hand hits Buck in the face and- and Buck snorts. He can’t help it. Quickly, they both dissolve into nearly-hysterical laughter, fueled by the sleep deprivation and truly ridiculous position they’ve gotten themselves into.
Buck shifts, moving down the bed so his head fits right against Eddie’s shoulder and Eddie’s arm can go above him, one of Buck’s arms thrown over Eddie’s torso and their legs tangling together instinctively. And- they fit. It takes a couple seconds, but suddenly Buck doesn’t know where he ends or where Eddie begins. Eddie’s cool to the touch, but their every point of contact sends sparks skittering along Buck’s skin, his entire body practically thrumming.
“Is this okay?” Buck asks softly, Eddie shivering as the words ghost across his skin.
“Yeah,” Eddie murmurs, and the words vibrate through his chest. “Yeah, this is- this is good. Are you- is this okay for you?”
Buck just hums in response, his eyes already falling closed. Eddie’s chest rises and falls under Buck’s touch and he finds himself mirroring the movements, matching his breathing to Eddie’s. He moves his hand, fingertips searching for Eddie’s heartbeat, longing for the calming rhythm tapping under his fingers.
He finds Eddie’s heart, but it’s far from calm. His heartbeat skitters and races under Buck’s fingertips, beating out a frantic rhythm that matches Buck’s own.
“Eddie?”
“Hmm?”
Buck cranes his head to look up at Eddie, studying the slope of his nose, the curves of his lips. “Why’s your heart racing?”
Eddie’s eyes open and he visibly swallows. “I- I don’t- um.” His heartbeat grows even faster and he stares directly at the ceiling.
“Eddie?” Buck prompts gently, pressing his palm into the other man’s chest.
“I’m sorry, Buck,” Eddie says finally. “I- I thought I could- I don’t mean to- Fuck, I’m sorry, I’ll just- I’ll sleep on the floor, okay?” He starts to move, to leave, and Buck’s hand darts out, away from his racing heart to cup the side of his face. He lifts himself slightly on his other elbow, turning Eddie’s head so their eyes meet.
“Eddie,” Buck says softly. He shifts so he can take Eddie’s hand in his own, most of his weight resting on Eddie’s chest, and presses Eddie’s palm against his own heart. Eddie’s eyes widen slightly, but his body relaxes.
“Evan-”
“Can we- can we have the talk tomorrow?” Buck rushes out. Eddie frowns and Buck brushes his thumb over the corner of his mouth, smiling nervously. “I just- fuck I’m really tired so I sorta just wanna- kiss you and then like, pass out for the next ten hours. Can we- is that okay?”
Eddie’s free hand, the one not over Buck’s heart, comes up to curl around the side of his neck, his thumb pressing under Buck’s jaw. Buck nearly sighs, melting into the touch.
“Yeah,” Eddie whispers, rising up as he pulls Buck down. “Yeah, sounds like a plan.” And then he slots his mouth against Buck’s and his fingers press into the back of Buck’s neck and his other hand is searing over Buck’s heart and god, this is it. This is how Buck dies. Death by perfect first kiss.
Eddie’s teeth nip at Buck’s lower lip, begging for entrance, and Eddie makes a low, victorious sound in the back of his throat when Buck goes willingly, shifting to cover more of Eddie’s body with his own, both hands now cradling Eddie’s jaw.
Buck’s panting when Eddie pulls away, breaking the kiss, his eyes wide and voice rough as he says, “We should- we should probably go to sleep.”
“Yeah,” Buck murmurs, his fingertips brushing over Eddie’s skin as he smirks. “See- problem is, I’m really not great at listening to teachers.” And then he’s claiming Eddie’s lips as his own once more, swallowing any further protests. Though- Eddie’s not exactly complaining as his hands fly down to Buck’s hips, squeezing gently. He sighs as Buck’s mouth moves down to his neck, placing searing, open mouthed kisses along the column of his throat.
“Who needs sleep anyway?”

Okay I have a lot of non-writing things to do today but I’m going to list out all my WIPs here and y’all can send me questions about them or tell me to write a sentence for one of them or a scene you’d like to see or whatever and I’ll work on them for wip wednesday
Proposal fic
Eddie proposes after Buck wakes up from the coma, despite them not being romantically involved at all. About them falling in love but also about Buck, like, working through trauma and gaining the power of self respect as he deals with lasting repercussions of being struck by lightning. Also this is secretly set in the same universe a few years in the future.
Proposal fic sequel fic (dear god why, finish the main one you fool)
Conversations Eddie has with fathers. First Michael about coming out later in life, then Bobby about how frightening it can be to care about Buck sometimes, then a shovel talk from Chimney, then coming out to his own dad, then coming home to Buck.
ER nurse Eddie au
Nurse Eddie Diaz sees firefighter Buckley many times over the years. Snapshots of (almost) every emergency on the show that lands Buck in the hospital seen from Eddie’s perspective.
take you in and make you mine chapter two
Buck and Eddie wake up, get a little handsy and a lot sappy, Maddie stops by with breakfast and is surprised at first that her presumed-straight brother and his best friend are giggling and holding hands (is that a… hickey on Eddie’s neck…..) but then is so so happy for them and like… duh Buck and Eddie… of course, buckandeddie…
with love comes strange currencies
A sequel to take you in and make you mine. At the firehouse Eddie has a conversation with Hen about the joy he finds in being horny in a gay way, and Buck has a conversation with Bobby about how happy he is to be in love in an Eddie way.
Quilt shop au
Eddie works in a quilt shop run by Pepa (and his abuela until she moved back to Texas recently). Buck comes in for quilting advice about making a baby blanket for Jee-Yun. Buck’s beginner’s luck improv adhd disaster method of working stresses neat and tidy and crisply ironed Eddie out, but both of them end up learning from each other, and, of course, falling in love. Also him and Shanon go on twin journeys of gay awakening and love and support each other very much.
I think that’s all of them sdfgsdf there’s other scraps of aus floating around up there but these are the ones I’d like to focus on currently

when eddie comes back to work, lucy watches him and buck interact for like twelve minutes, after an inordinately long hug for people who—she has it on good authority—left the same house that morning, and turns to say something to ravi who just goes "don't even ask, i thought they were divorced for way too long", so of course she spends the rest of the shift just observing the enigma that is buckandeddie firsthand. she's heard the stories, of course, and seen how buck was without eddie around. but this. this is a whole new level. she's three steps out of the station after the end of the shift when her phone dings, she's been added to a groupchat lovingly and extensively titled "support group for the co-workers of the re-married ex-husbands who have never been married or divorced" and ravi has already sent her an impressive handful of hyper specific memes she's pretty sure he made during the truck ride back to the station after a pile-up call

The will changes everything.
We’ve seen Eddie’s interactions with Buck since he changed his will, but this is the first time we’re going to be seeing Buck after he’s learned about the will. Of course, the shooting changes everything too, and their relationship will never be the same as it was before, but the will just adds more layers to the shift in their relationship.
Season 5 feels like it has a lot of potential to be different, and I think this is a big reason why it feels that way. This is going to be our first exposure to BuckandEddie post-will reveal. And I think it’s going to be great.

I think it matters that we havent seen if Taylor changed because s2 she wanted to use that footage but wasnt allowed due to lawyers, so would she pick buck or the story. If theres a similar situation. But also buck is tends to see best in people thought she wanted a story and not be there for him. 911 can set up reltionships but they dditn try with them instead she rejected him then changed her mind in emotional situation where neither were thinking clearly.
Though we aren't excited about BT's relationship, I do think there have been tiny hints that they rushed into this thing too soon and will eventually realize they work better as friends. (I don't think they're endgame, but it's not like the writers are trying to convince me otherwise.) - The fact that TayKay had no problem calling Buck "needy" and made him question whether he knew how to be a good friend has me curious whether that type of reaction is going to happen again. Might she say something hurtful in the midst of a disagreement? Are we going to get an idea of what she really thinks when the 'honeymoon phase' wears off? - This is just me thinking thoughts, but the writers made a *choice* to have Buck include Eddie in the treasure hunt when it was supposed to be just he and his friend who is a girl, thus providing evidence that as BT get closer, Eddie will remain a priority, and Buck will "choose him" if it comes to that. I also think it's worth noting that T told Buck he needed to split his winnings with Eddie if they were able to locate the treasure. Yes, that scene was framed in a way that separated Eddie from the budding couple, but her statement actually established that Buck and Eddie are still a team no matter who they're dating. And the fact that T separated HERSELF from them re: her money is hers, but Buck needs to share his with his best friend since he's so important shows that she kinda already knows it's BuckandEddie above all else. - Something about the conversation between BT at Buck’s apartment in 4x12 has stuck with me. She says “I’m a trained journalist. Or at least, I was, before I got caught up in this dumb treasure hunt.” Is there a chance T will realize she’s been so “caught up” in her relationship that she lost sight of what matters the most to her (her career)? It is my opinion that Buck will be doing the breaking up, but only if he recognizes they’re on two different paths. T’s actions and words will help him come to that conclusion.  - Of course, the moment everyone keeps coming back to, Buck’s remark in 4x14 (Uh, no--no comment, Taylor.”) when his gut instinct tells him she’s at the hospital looking for a soundbite. They were supposed to be friends by this point, right? What kind of friendship do they have beyond solving mysteries (Sue’s accident, the treasure hunt) if Buck automatically assumes she’s there for her own gain?  - It’s also significant that Buck was previously seeking physical intimacy from her, and was embarrassed/disappointed after being rejected, but when Eddie’s life is on the line, Buck doesn’t think of anything, or anyone, else. Yeah, she’s at his apartment in the aftermath of Buck getting chewed out at work for the crane rescue, but he’s in the process of packing clothes for his stay at the Diaz house to take care of Christopher. Buck doesn’t initiate the kiss, and though he started to protest her leaving, the second he realizes A*a is calling, the second he realizes Eddie has woken up, he wants nothing more than to be with his best friend.  It’s always been Eddie. It will always be Eddie.

Could you tell us about the fire academy au?
so
this one has been a looooong time in the not-making. i've had the idea for like a year, and then my work laptop broke (maybe i write on my work laptop sometimes don't tell my boss) and i lost a couple of thousand works of it rip but i'll write it again soon
anyways
the fire academy au is a fic where buck and eddie meet while in the same class at the fire academy and become best friends and end up at different fire stations, so eddie is just buck's mysterious best friend that the 118 have never met
except after the bombing and the tsunami (eddie is at the station that gets wrecked by it) he steps in to cover for buck with the 118 because he knows that if its him doing it, buck won't feel sidelined by it, and then the 118 get to know eddie
its more of a retelling of the show but with a different dynamic because buck and eddie have been BuckandEddie from the start
here is ur snippet
A firefighter was stuck under the ladder truck.
Male.
Eddie barely let the 136’s truck come to a stop before he was jumping out, running to the scene of the bombing. The terror and confusion in the air was palatable, and for a second, Eddie was back in Afghanistan, and he couldn’t breathe, and –
It was Buck.
Of course it was fucking Buck, who was pinned under the weight of an entire ladder truck.
“Buck!” Eddie yelled, ducking and weaving between the crowd, pushing past LAPD, relying on his uniform to get him to his best friend without issue. Buck’s squad looked confused at his yelling, but Eddie didn’t have the time or patience to explain.
Not when Buck was shivering under the weight of the ladder truck, his left leg trapped – and crushed, the medic in him noted. Crush injuries were tricky.
“Eddie?” Buck’s voice was hoarse and confused.
“I’m here, Buck,” Eddie dropped to his knees, taking one of Buck’s hands in his own, Buck’s skin cold, and clammy. “I’m here Buck,” he repeated, ignoring the questioning look he was getting from – uh, Hen, he was pretty sure it was Hen.
“We’re out of time, Cap,” Chimney spoke, shaking his head. “We need to get this truck off him now.”
“Is there anything we can use for leverage?” Eddie questioned, looking around.
“No time,” Lena interjected, finally catching up with him. “Captain Nash – do you think we’ve got enough manpower to lift this thing?”
Bobby’s jaw was set in a harsh line. “I don’t think we have a choice,” he admitted. “Everyone, on three.”
Eddie gripped tightly to Buck’s hand, brushing a hand through his blood matted curls. “It’s okay, Buck,” he soothed. “You’re going to be okay.”

So Eddie before the first one to show up/grab the rope during the climax of Buck Begins, an ep that is all about Buck’s found family and sense of belonging… choices were made
Like Bobby is a surrogate father figure and Hen was the one who supported him peeling off but of course it’s Eddie
One of the million choices regarding BuckandEddie on the show, yes. I love that scene so much. Makes me cry every single time.
