About the nabatean language post...
I've always thought nabateans and agarthans had their own language which were forgotten by the rest of Fodlan.
Is it not tragic that the only ones who can understand you are your mortal enemies?
:(
That's why I'm so upset at Fodlan world building - we have those two civilisations warring by proxy during an era where they're supposed to be gone, but bar two chapters we lit don't give a fig about them!
I imagine during the Shambala raid, while Seteth was fighting on the front lines, Rhea was the one who read "Viskam maintenance room" on a door, and directed the army to go there to pull a switch - ditto for Thales who told Supreme Leader the word/how to spot the "Golem activation button" in the Holy Tomb if she needed to desactivate them when Flamey and Metodey would be pillaging Nabatean tombs.
(being older, maybe Seteth knows more "agarthan" than Rhea, but would have thought the room identified as "freezer" would just be a normal freezer, and not the Nemesis'n'Dudes resting place!)
I still like the idea of humans knowing some bits of Nabatean language through old scriptures of the Church of Seiros when Agarthans never shared their culture with anyone else, from an era where Seiros wanted to share Nabatean language and thought she could, one day, live with humans without hairdye - to the modern CoS completely dropping it, showing how Rhea is closer to the Agarthan mindset, humans and Nabateans cannot coexist/cohabit in Fodlan (but maybe that'll change when Sothis will return) - Agarthans believe they don't need to share their culture with beasts, and refuse to cohabit/coexist with them.

on the topic of music though i think theres something about it that just doesnt click with my brain? because i DID learn music theory, how to play instruments, i had a music instructor, etc. and frankly i still dont really get it.
(under readmore because this got long)
when i performed pieces on piano i was mainly sightreading, and the way i could tell i made a mistake was because my muscle memory got good enough that i would feel my hands being in the wrong position for the sheet music i was seeing before i processed that the note i was hearing myself play was incorrect.
(i CAN hear it! but my visual-spatial and proprioceptive processing are leagues faster. ex: if my left hand playing accompaniment was supposed to play notes 1 octave apart in succession and i hit a 6th interval instead, i can hear that its not quite right! HOWEVER whats more clearly and immediately evident to me is that my hand did not travel far enough across the keyboard to hit an octave.)
note or chord names do not connect to a specific note's sound to me, i can only read sheet notation, and if anything having the notes labelled on the staff (like how beginner books do) made it more difficult for me to understand. its like staff placement = finger placement. and the sound doesnt factor into that, it exists but it goes somewhere else or hits roadblocks before being properly processed.
i also could not for the life of me pass the part of the aural exams that had us listen to about a minute length excerpt of music (theyd play it twice, with the 2nd time upon request) and then identify the musical period, mood, when during the piece the dynamics or tempo changed (such as near the beginning, in the middle, or near the end), etc. "was it louder at the start or the end?" = impossible question. when new music starts playing nothing except for the sound in this exact current moment exists to my brain. once it stops playing its just gone. "did it get slower at any point?" bro what you just played does not even EXIST in my brain anymore.
like clearly my working memory is kind of trash here but i wonder if its something specific about auditory stuff that my brain doesnt get. because i can comment on like, an animation based on my first or second watch even if i dont get to pause/rewind/analyze it frame by frame. and i can learn a dance/choreo thats set to music. but music itself really feels like it goes in one ear and out the other. just slips through my fingers like it never existed.

South Asian and Hindu Influences in ATLA (Part 1)
disclaimer: i was raised culturally and religiously hindu, and though i've tried to do my research for this post and pair it with my own cultural knowledge, i'm not an expert on hinduism by any means. should i mess up, please let me know.
please also be aware that many of the concepts discussed in this post overlap heavily with religions such as buddhism and jainism, which might have different interpretations and representations. as i'm not from those religions or cultures, i don't want to speak on them, but if anyone with that knowledge wishes to add on, please feel free.
it's well-known that atla draws from indigenous, east and southeast asian influences, but something i rarely see discussed in the fandom is the influences the show takes from hinduism and south asia, and there are actually far more than i think people are aware of.
so here's a (non-exhaustive list) of the main inspirations atla drew from south asian culture and hinduism, starting with...
The Avatar
the title of the show itself is taken from the ancient language of sanskrit, often considered the sacred tongue of the hindu religion. in sanskrit, the word "avatar" means to "descend" or "alight".
the concept of the avatar is a very old one, referring to the physical incarnation of a powerful deity or spirit. the idea of the avatar is most often linked to the god Vishnu, one of three supreme hindu gods collectively called the trimurti, or trinity. the avatar is said to manifest upon earth primarily in times of great need, when balance must be maintained between the forces of good and evil.
atla borrows heavily from this idea in having aang be the incarnation of a divine spirit who returns to the world during a time of immense strife, and is tasked with defeating a great evil to bring balance back to the world. and though i don't know if it was an intentional reference, it's interesting to note that Krishna, the most famous incarnation of Vishnu was also reborn amidst a fierce storm and carried through a raging sea to a new home where he would be protected from the king who sought to kill him. sounds a little familiar, doesn't it?
Agni Kai and the Philosophy of Firebending
the word "agni" derives from the sanskrit name Agni, the god of fire, though it can also generally mean "fire".
the concepts of lightning bending and the sun being the source of firebending are likely also taken from the idea of Agni, since he's said to exist simultaneously in three different forms on three different dimensions: as fire on earth, as lightning in the atmosphere, and as the sun in the sky.
Agni is a significant aspect of many rituals, including marriage rites, death rites, and the festivals of holi and diwali. the concept of Agni is one of duality: life and death, rebirth and destruction. hindu rituals accept and celebrate both aspects, revolving around the idea that destruction is not separate from creation, but rather necessary to facilitate it. the cremation of the dead, for instance, is seen as purification, not destruction: burning away the physical form so the soul is unencumbered, set free to continue the reincarnation cycle.
this influence can be seen in the firebending masters episode, which discusses the idea of fire being vital to life. the sun warriors safeguarding the original fire and demanding that zuko and aang bring fire to the dragons as a sacrifice could also reference the ritual of Agnihotra - the ritual of keeping a fire at the home hearth and making offerings to it. the purpose of this ritual differs depending on which text you refer to, but it is generally believed to purify the person and atmosphere in which it is performed, similar to how zuko and aang must make offerings to ran and shaw and survive their fire before being deemed worthy and pure.
Agnihotra is said to serve as a symbolic reminder of the vitality and importance of fire as the driving force of life, a lesson that zuko and aang also internalize from their encounter with the dragons.
Bumi
bumi's name is taken from the sanskrit word "bhumi", which means "earth". it's also the name of the hindu goddess of the earth, bumi or bhudevi.
one of the things the original animation didn't do and which i really enjoyed about the live action was that they made bumi indian and added desi inspiration to omashu. it makes perfect sense for a king whose name is as hindu-inspired as they come.
NWT Royal Palace
chief arnook's palace in the northern water tribe takes inspiration from the gopurams of hindu temples, massive pyramidal structures that served as entrance towers to the temple.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
gopurams were built tall enough to be seen for miles around, beacons to signal tired or weary travellers who wished for a place to rest that a temple was nearby. it's a nice touch that the chief's palace is located in front of the spirit oasis, a similarly symbolic entryway to a sanctuary housing otherworldly deities.
Betrothal Necklaces
to preface: i doubt this was an intentional reference, and this great post talks about other cultures that could have inspired the water tribe betrothal necklaces. given the desi influence in the nwt architecture however, i figured it was worth mentioning.
the idea of betrothal necklaces being given to women by their male partners is similar to the thaali, a necklace given to hindu wives by their husbands. during hindu weddings, grooms tie the thaali around their brides' necks to symbolize their marriage. once given, wives are expected to wear their thaali till the day they die, as doing so is believed to bring good luck, health and prosperity to their husbands.
Chi-Blocking
though chi-blocking takes primary inspiration from the art of Dim Mak, it is also influenced by the south indian martial arts forms of adimurai and kalaripayattu, both of which include techniques of striking vital points in the body to disable or kill an opponent.
kalaripayattu also shares parallels with firebending, being a very physically demanding, aggressive martial art that emphasises the importance of discipline and mental fortitude. control of the mind is essential to control of the body, a philosophy similar to that espoused by iroh across the show.
Wan Shi Tong's Library
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the library draws inspiration partly from the taj mahal, the famous mausoleum constructed by shah jahan during the mughal empire as a monument to his beloved wife, mumtaz mahal.
i'll end this post here since it's getting too long as it is, and the following section will be even longer. for while atla treated the concepts in this post with respect, the same unfortunately cannot be said for its depiction of guru pathik and combustion man - both of which we'll be discussing next.

it’s autism acceptance week!! some information and reminders for our non autistic allies:
- autism speaks is horrendously harmful to the autistic community. I won’t go into it here but research it if you’re curious!! don’t support them or donate to them.
- “light it up blue” and the puzzle piece symbol are both disliked by the majority of autistic people, as they were both coined by autism speaks as well as the ironic fact that blue lights can be extremely unpleasant and painful to autistic people with sensory issues. The puzzle piece implies that we are a puzzle to be solved, which removes agency from autistic people and is generally hurtful and disheartening.
-autism acceptance week > autism awareness week!! this one doesn’t need too much explanation, acceptance is always better than just awareness (:
- better symbols to show your support include the rainbow infinity symbol!! this symbol was coined by neurodivergent people and is a much more appropriate and appreciated choice than the puzzle piece.
- asperger’s is a term a lot of autistic people are trying to phase out of language used for ourselves, as it was coined by a man who was extremely involved with nazis and has roots in eugenics. It's origin is complicated, but overall it's a label most autistic people dislike for many reasons.
- high functioning and low functioning are also labels we are trying to get rid of as they remove agency from autistic people with high needs and diminish the chance of accommodations for low need autistics. (low needs is the new high functioning and high needs is the new low functioning!!) these new labels address the needs of autistic people without referencing functioning abilities, which are often arbitrary as our needs are more important than our ability to process things (:
- autistic people are sexy and awesome and deserve your patience, respect, and support!! want to show your support in the little ways? ask your autistic friend questions about their special interest(s) or hyperfixations!! try to up your use of tone tags, as they’re necessary to many autistic people. and just be normal about us!! dont act like we’re special or more worthy of attention than others, and don’t ignore us or throw us under the bus. happy autism acceptance week!!
please reblog to share this so it reaches more people (:

how do we know in the books that john is indigenous? can you say more about how his indigeneity is important to his story?
hello! so there is a word of god post on race (doesn't mention John but mentions that Gideon is "mixed Maori"), BUT I frankly don't think word of god statements are worth any weight without actual in-text support (see: the "dumbledore is gay" situation). SO!
Specific evidence that John Gaius is Maori, as revealed in Nona the Ninth:
When he is listing his education, John mentions having gone to Dilworth School (John 20:8). Dilworth is an all boys boarding school in Auckland and accepts students based on financial need instead of academic or sporting achievements. Demographics appear to be about 70% low income Maori boys, indicating that it is highly likely that John is Maori
John reports that P- said he looked like a "Maori-TV pink panther" (John 15:23) when his eyes turned gold. Maori TV is a TV station that is focused primarily on Maori culture & language revitalization, with presumably all or mostly Maori hosts, and tbh I don't see why P- would say this unless John was himself Maori
John uses a te reo Māori phrase ("kia kaha, kia māia") (John 5:20) when he is saying goodbye to the corpses in the cryo lab before the power is shut off. Though it is possible he said this as a non-Maori kiwi, but in combination with the previous two points of evidence I think this all very strongly points to him being Maori
He also renames his daughter Kiriona Gaia, "Kiriona" being just literally the name "Gideon" in te reo Māori
TLT is not a series that hands you anything on a silver platter but to ME this is all pretty solid proof
Why is this relevant to The Locked Tomb?
In Nona the Ninth, we learn that before he completed apotheosis and ate the solar system, John was basically trying to save the earth from capitalism-caused climate change. Climate justice and the rights of indigenous people over their own land are deeply tied together, in the same way that climate catastrophe and capitalism/ imperialism/ colonialism are linked. disclaimer that this is NOT my area of study and others have definitely said it better; this is just the basic gist as I understand it, but on quick search I found some sources here and here if you want to do some reading.
TLT is not a series that hands you anything on a silver platter, but i don't think it is a stretch to see John as an indigenous man trying to save the earth and getting ignored and shut down at every turn by primarily western colonial powers (PanEuro, the USA) who declare him a terrorist and then as a reader thematically connecting that to the experience of indigenous climate activists IRL
there are absolutely TLT meta posts that have discussed this before me; tumblr search is nonfunctional and I have been looking for an hour and a half and cannot find anything specific even though i KNOW i reblogged multiple posts about this in the first few weeks following NTN's release. sad & I am sorry
I think that by the time the books take place, John is 10k years removed from the cultural context he grew up in, with the Nine Houses having become a genocidal colonial power in their own right (with more parallels to be made between John's forever war for the resources of literal life energy and like, oil wars), but I also think that John Gaius is a fictional character who can represent and symbolize multiple different things in service of telling a story. (not to mention the potential thematic parallels being made to how oppressed people sometimes are pressed into replicating the power dynamics of their oppressors and continuing the cycle--now that is a tumblr post i KNOW i read last year and definitely cannot find right now, once again sad & I am sorry)
How Radical Was John Gaius, Really is a forum thread that was locked by the moderators after 234534645674564 pages of heated debate

I've made a few posts talking about things in the nonhuman and alterhuman communities recently, mostly just brief looks into them, so I thought I would share this one.
The info may not be all that much, and could easily be expanded upon, but I did my best for a simple bit of info for certain things.
All pictures have ALT text included, but I shall post the text also here, under a cut, cause it's a bit long, lol
Nonhuman as an identity: To identify as not human either fully or partially. (hate/trolls will be reported and deleted)
Reminder: These are all personal identities and why someone identifies as nonhuman and what term someone decides to use for themself is exclusively their business. In the end it is what makes the most sense to the individual and not up to others. Now, onto some of the communities that are included under the nonhuman identity:
Otherkin: from the term "otherkind" - an identity which typically encompasses being wholly or partially a nonhuman entity. Usually understood to cover those who identify as mythical creatures and other fantastical things. Also covers those that fall outside of beings and creatures.
Examples of non-being or creature based identities: Conceptkin: an identity where one identifies as a concept such as the concept of night or fire. Objectkin: and identity where one identifies as an object. Songkin: an identity where one identifies as a song.
Examples of being and creature based identities: Therianthropy: usually shortened to therian - where one identifies AS a nonhuman animal. Some will say that this term refers to only earthen animals, living or extinct, but it has never only encompassed earthly animals. The community's language came from those who identify as werecreatures. Theriomythic: an alternate identity term for one who identifies in some intrinsic was as a mythical creature. Paleotherian: an identity term for one who identifies as a now extinct earthly animal, like a dinosaur or mammoth.
Cladotherian or Cladokin: an identity term for one who does not identify as a distinct species, but a broader identity encompassing an entire genus or larger grouping. Cladomythic: an identity term for one who identifies as a group (clade) of animalistic mythical creatures.
Fictionkin: an identity term that covers all things fictional. For those who identify as something fictional like characters, animals, species, objects, etc. These can be from books, shows, video games, etc, but not always! Original fictional characters and such are also possible.
There are many other identities that fall under the nonhuman umbrella which is why it's important to do your own research to figure out if a certain term works for you. All these identities share the trait of being involuntary. You cannot choose to be therian, otherkin, or the other mentioned identities.
While the already mentioned identities are involuntary, there are some identities that fall under being voluntary. Otherlink: an identity where one voluntarily identifies as nonhuman. Copinglink: an identity where one voluntarily identifies as nonhuman to copes with things such as trauma, stress, etc.
A lot of people may also say that it is impossible to become a therian, otherkin, etc. While the identity is involuntary, things like trauma and neurodivergence can cause an individual to take on a nonhuman identity when they had not had one previously.
Most will usually see people explain that these identities are spiritual or psychological, but these are only some of the ways that individuals may experience them. Some other experiences of nonhumanity: Symbolic Metaphorical Ancestral Physical (Yes this is an actual reason for some and they are just as much a part of the community as anyone else. Physical and Ancestral nonhumans are part of the community's history and some of its founders.)
For those looking for more information, and community places, here are some places to check out! Werelist Nonhuman National Park Alterhuman Archive The Chimera's Library. The above are forums and archives of information on the community. Most archived information is thanks to who-is-page, liongoatsnake and frameacloud on tumblr.
While this is a brief look into the nonhuman identity that I could share, I do hope it has been helpful in some way. Remember to be true to yourself, and don't let anyone tell you how to feel. Ignore, report, delete and block the haters!
Yeen out~

Difficult II
Mapi Leon x Ingrid Engen x Child!Reader
Summary: A look back to when you and Mumma join Barcelona
Tumblr media
You were very little when Mapi first met you, balanced on Ingrid's hip on her first day at Barcelona.
"Who is this little cutie?" Patri coos as you look around, chewing on the cuff of your shirt as you fisted Ingrid's training top.
"This is y/n," Ingrid replies, bouncing you lightly," She's one and a half."
"She's beautiful."
Patri waves at you and you grunt, wiggling around before Ingrid puts you down. You hold onto her leg tightly, standing on your unsteady two feet, still sucking on your sleeve.
Patri offers you her finger and, for a moment, it looks like you're going to take it but Mapi watches Ingrid push it away.
"I wouldn't," She says apologetically to Patri," y/n's going through a biting phase. You can ask Frido, she drew blood back in Germany."
Patri laughs it off and says something else but Mapi doesn't hear, fully focussed on the way you toddle about the locker room. You get a greeting from Frido, who you obviously know well, and from Caro too - who clearly knows you from national camp.
A few of the other girls coo at you from a distance but you ignore them, somehow making your way over to Mapi.
It's a bit disconcerting, the way that you're staring up at her critically even though you're still practically a baby.
"Hola," She says before wincing.
You're Ingrid's baby. Ingrid who is Norwegian and just came from Germany.
Mapi wonders briefly if children get confused by different languages at your age.
But you give her a gummy smile and the universal symbol of pick me up.
You feel good against her side, comfortable, and you're not nearly as cumbersome as Mapi thought you were. You tug at her hair, curious, as she presents you to Ingrid.
"Hola, I'm Mapi."
Ingrid's looking at her and, briefly, Mapi's speechless. "Hi, I'm Ingrid."
●~●~●~●~
Mapi would admit, she's not the most maternal person in the world but there's something about you and Ingrid that keeps her close.
Alexia is also taken with you - but not quite in the way that Mapi is.
You're sitting on the play mat of yours and Ingrid's apartment as the pair entertain you.
"So..." Mapi says as she looks over at Ingrid," Does she understand Norwegian yet or was google wrong in telling me that she should already know some words?"
Ingrid laughs in delight and Mapi's stomach flutters. Ingrid clicks her tongue and says something to you that Mapi doesn't understand.
You glance over quickly and stand to wander over, abandoning Alexia who was helping you play with your toys. Ingrid leans down and lets you press a wet kiss to her cheek before sending you back to Alexia.
Mapi grins. "She's pretty smart."
Ingrid looks incredibly proud as you babble non-words at Alexia. "She is. She speaks sometimes too. Not proper sentences but she's got 'no' pretty down pat."
"Well," Mapi says as she cautiously sneaks her arm around Ingrid's shoulders," She's got the important stuff learnt already."
Ingrid laughs and Mapi feels proud of herself, at having been the one to make her laugh.
"Mumma," You call over, holding onto Alexia's shoulders as you look over at Ingrid and Mapi.
"Si," Alexia says," That is your Mumma. Your Mumma and Mapi. Can you say Mapi?"
"Ma..." The sounds is drawn out of you and you repeat it a few more times. "Ma...Ma..."
"Mapi, si," Alexia says," Maybe that is too difficult. What about Ale? Can you say Ale?"
You don't. You just sit down on her lap and go back to playing with your toys.
●~●~●~●~
Mapi finds herself spending time with you and Ingrid outside of Alexia's company too until it slowly but surely evolves into a family unit.
Ingrid's her girlfriend and you've made a home in her apartment.
Her spare room has turned into your nursery and there's plastic baby cutlery in her kitchen.
"Ma..." You say again and again, tugging on Mapi's shorts one evening as she lazes on the sofa.
Ingrid's out with Frido for the evening so you and Mapi are having a girl's night. It's hardly the first time that you've been alone together since you and Ingrid moved in so Mapi's not worried.
"Ma..." You repeat when Mapi takes too long to pick you up.
You sit on her hips as Mapi lays down, smiling up at you. You flop onto her chest and poke at her cheek. Her fingers come to run down your spine, something that almost always makes you relax.
You're a bit like Bagheera in that respect. She goes limp when she gets back scratches too.
Every so often, you'll try to grab at her fingers but your biting phase hasn't let up yet so she keeps them well away from your mouth.
"Ma..." You huff against her collarbone.
"Si, bebita?" Mapi asks.
"Mamí," You say, sucking at the collar of her shirt.
Mapi's fingers freeze on your spine as she looks at you in shock. "Wh-What?"
You look at her strangely and repeat," Mamí."
●~●~●~●~
Ingrid's stressed as she runs up the stairs, not bothering to take the elevator.
The call she got from Mapi was so tearful and almost complete gibberish. Mapi was in tears and she could just about hear you in the background so abandoning Frido was a quick decision so she could run home.
She slams open the door quickly and stops.
There's nothing wrong. There's no fire. There's no hole in the ceiling. There's no one holding either of you hostage.
There's just you and Mapi dancing in the living room as the theme tune of some Spanish kid's show that Ingrid doesn't quite understand plays from the speakers.
"Ingrid!" Mapi says, turning off the music and presenting you to her like Simba. "Listen. Say it, bebita. Go on, say it."
You give Ingrid a gummy smile before leaning your head back into Mapi's shoulder.
"Mamí," You say," Mamí. Mamí. Mamí." You keep repeating it, keep babbling the name as Mapi tickles you.
"Ingrid," Mapi says," She called me Mamí. I'm Mamí."
Ingrid laughs, wrapping an arm around Mapi's waist to pull you both closer. "Well, of course you are. What? You expected her to just call you Mapi all her life?"
"But I'm Mamí!" Mapi's still kind of in disbelief. She knew that being with Ingrid meant being somewhat of a parent to you. She just always thought that, to you, she would be nothing more than Ingrid's partner.
Just Mapi
But, no.
She's Mamí.

Hello , here are some really basic writing tips.
Intriguing Openings: Start with a bang! Drop your readers into the middle of action or create a mystery that begs to be solved. Make them curious from the first sentence.
Character Backstories: Dive deep into your characters' pasts. Share their quirks, secrets, and defining moments. Readers love discovering what makes characters tick.
Sensory Descriptions: Paint a vivid picture using all five senses. Describe the smell of freshly baked cookies, the feel of a soft summer breeze, or the taste of a sour lemon.
Plot Twists: Keep your readers on their toes with unexpected plot twists. Surprise them by turning a seemingly predictable story into something extraordinary.
Cliffhangers: Leave your audience hanging at the end of a chapter or post. A well-placed cliffhanger will have them eagerly awaiting the next installment.
Metaphors and Similes: Add color to your writing with creative comparisons. For example, "Her smile was as bright as a thousand suns," adds a vivid and poetic touch.
Character Relationships: Explore complex dynamics between characters. Highlight their conflicts, alliances, and the evolution of their relationships throughout the story.
Symbolism: Incorporate symbols or motifs that carry deeper meaning. They can enhance the overall theme and give readers something to ponder.
Narrative Voice: Experiment with different narrative voices, such as first-person, third-person limited, or even second-person, to find the one that suits your story best.
Foreshadowing Mysteries: Drop subtle hints and clues early in the story that will become crucial later on. Readers love piecing together mysteries.
Unreliable Narrators: Consider using an unreliable narrator to keep readers guessing. They might misinterpret events or hide critical information.
Flashbacks as Puzzle Pieces: Use flashbacks strategically to reveal key aspects of the story or characters. Make them fit together like a jigsaw puzzle.
Dialect and Dialogue: Give characters distinct voices through their speech patterns and accents. Engaging dialogue can showcase personality and culture.
Emotional Rollercoasters: Take readers on an emotional journey. Make them laugh, cry, and experience every emotion alongside your characters.
Settings with Personality: Make the setting almost like another character. Show how it impacts the characters and the story's mood.
Evoke Empathy: Share characters' vulnerabilities, fears, and desires. Readers relate to flawed, authentic characters with whom they can empathize. Let them fail.
Experiment with Structure: Play with non-linear timelines, multiple perspectives, or fragmented narratives. Challenge traditional storytelling conventions.
Clever Wordplay: Incorporate puns, wordplay, or clever language usage to add humor and depth to your writing.
Cinematic Scenes: Write scenes that readers can visualize as if they were watching a movie. Use dynamic action and vivid descriptions.
Leave Room for Imagination: Don't spell everything out. Allow readers to use their imaginations to fill in some blanks.
Remember that storytelling is an art, and there's no one-size-fits-all approach. You can use these techniques to improve your unique style and the story you want to tell. Most importantly, have fun writing.
And remember to drink enough water!

I dont know about you but god sometimes i thibk abt some of the cannibalistic symbolism in dirk and jake relationship and i go a bit insane ok. Let me explain.
So if youre just catching up youre probably wondering, borzoi. Why is everyone doing Dirkjake cannibalism? Where did this come from?
Attached, is three images depicting what could be seen as cannibalism metaphorically. Attached are images of Jake with brainghost Dirk, Brobot ripping his own heart for Jake, and Dirks beheaded head, sent to Jake by Dirk. In simple terms, this sacrifice and act of giving Jakes parts of himself could be seen as cannibalism, which hangs on giving a part of you to someone you love for their own use.
But it runs a bit deeper than that. Cannibalism and violence as a love language is a rather nontraditional take, toeing the line on macabre, but its also a sign of extreme loyalty. It “highlights the contradictory urges of desire and aggression.”(Typeset, 2023). Dirk has two rather extreme examples of this, with Brobot ripping his heart out for Jake, killing himself, and Dirk beheading himself and transportalizing it to Jake to kiss, again, killing him.
This connects to Dirkjake by their dichotomy between the affection and intensely loyal bond they have to each other and their more violent combat based bond shown in the comic, from their relationship with their respective weapons to Jakes desire to fight (and Dirks subsequent gift of a robot to help protect and train him) to their hobby of choice in game (raiding tombs and fighting monsters) to even post credits (where they are seen engaged in a strife). Combat plays such a big role in their relationship.
Another thing to bring up about the cannibalism love metaphor is that it was often seen in old culture that to devour someone in death was to forever have a special bond with them, they become part of you and you share attributes. Which.. again. Need i say more? Brainghost dirk is a PART of Jake. The unique bond is one of Dirks fragmented self in Jakes soul, but also as a subconscious voice of reason given life in the form of Jakes best friend.
Cannibalism is a wordless nod to wordless acts of physical affection and intimate exchange between two people. Its no small feat to say that Dirk and Jake struggle with that. The majority of their lovelife is wordless, delivered through proxies or their reflections on their relationship through others. They find themselves feeling selfish and heartless for wanting to love each other in the ways they do. On dirks side, his desire to serve ingrains itself to him giving parts of himself to others whether it be a robot bunny, an autoresponder, or a robot. His gift to Jake are notably extreme, however Jake does not seem adverse to it, noting how he feels some sort of intimacy on being on level fighting ground with brobots (hence the upping in difficulty) and the “movie kiss.”
Its a selfish sort of love. Jake is known for his interest in non-traditional forms lf love over traditional (Think avatar and the.. hair connection thingies). But it serves them just fine. Its a way for the one that is cannibalised to offer themselves a gift to the devourer, and as a sacrifice. For the cannibal, its a chance for them to remain with a part of their lover forever. Dirk desires to be Jakes. In consumption, he will forever be part of him. A part of him surrenders all autonomy and ownership to seek the desire of being impossibly close. Which we do in fact see! When separated and in distress, Brainghost Dirk makes his appearance and fights for him, even as Dirk himself is hundreds of miles away hurtling through space… a part of him even haunts Jake after death in the postcanon, irrevocably, forever..his.
In short, Cannibalism is a nontraditional form of physical and intimate affection that seeks to show the depths of loyalty to the beloved and the desire to have a special bond and connection- to be a part of them- forever. Throughout the story of homestuck, Dirks splinters serve to accomodate themselves in that way, through the physical acts they act out or the special connection between brainghost dirk and jake. Hope you enjoyed reading!

Tattoo Artist!Au - Part of the CODN Spring Event - The Language of Flowers
Genre: Fluff, Non-idol!AU
Pairing: Wooyoung X GN!Reader
Words: 1,408
Rating: E for Everyone :)
Warnings: Mention of needles, tattoos, unconventional proposals.
A/n: Something short and sweet! I just thought the idea of Wooyo as a tattoo artist was really nice to think about lol As always feedback is greatly appreciated! Enjoy!~
Summary: Expect the unexpected, especially when it comes to your boyfriend.
Bluebell - Grateful
Lavender - Faithful
Lily of the Valley - Sweet
The soft buzzing of the needle fills the air, your hand tightening lightly over the tattoo gun. Wooyoung’s skin is soft and pliant beneath your touch, a soft sigh exhaled through his nose as the needle touches the side of his ribs.
“You okay?” You hum, sparing a glance upwards to his face.
He smiles back, his one arm tucked neatly beneath his head as he watches you. “Never better.”
“This was your idea, you know.” You reply, wiping over the artwork blooming over his skin. A matching print which already rests over the side of your own ribs, curtesy of the man currently laying on the chair before you.
“Do you regret it?” He tilts his head slightly, blinking at you curiously.
You take a moment to finish outlining the final bud before lifting your gaze to his. Nothing but sincerity can be found within your eyes as you smile softly at your boyfriend. “I could never regret you.”
His lips pull upwards bashfully, a giddy giggle escaping his lips.
“I love you,” He coos, reaching out with his free hand to brush his fingertips over the side of your cheek.
You turn your head, pretending to nip at his fingers.
“I love you, too,” you chuckle as he whines, watching as he pulls his hand away from your face. “Now, stop distracting me. I don’t want to mess this up.”
All you receive in response is a hum, another comfortable silence falling around the both of you. You work meticulously on the design, making sure the colours are blended thoroughly into his skin. It has to be perfect, especially if you want it to match your own.
“I still can’t believe you agreed to this.” Wooyoung’s voice is soft, his gaze shining in adoration at he watches you work over his body.
“I’m surprised you didn’t suggest it sooner.” The corner of your lips twitch upwards, wiping the excess ink from his skin once more.
Despite being a tattoo artist, Wooyoung isn’t covered in tattoos. It takes a lot for him to decide to permanently ink his skin; it has to be of great importance to him, and he needs to know that he wants it. He already has a few, sure, but each holds a very specific meaning to him. Just like you.
The moment he suggested the both of you give each other matching tattoos, you went wild. Thoughts of what you could give him, and of what he could give you swirled within your mind until finally, you settled on something meaningful for the both of you. It’s his design that rests on your skin, and your design that rests on his own, drawn in each of your own art styles to make it all the more special. Two of the same, but still unique in their own ways.
The design itself is simple: three individual sprigs of flowers which symbolize you, him, and your relationship.
On one stem, bluebells reside, handpicked by you to represent what he means to you. You’ve always been grateful to have him in your life, and now you can always show him without having to tell him.
The centre stem is a sprig of lavender, meant to symbolize the both of you in the relationship. It took some discussion between you both, but neither of you are anything less than faithful to the other, and this flower represents that. It will always represent that.
Finally, you get to the final flower that was personally picked by him to represent you. The lily of the valley is bright upon his skin, and you notice him smiling down at you as you stare at it a bit longer than the others. You can still recall the very words he said to you when he showed you the flower he had chosen.
Because you are the sweetest thing that has ever come into my life, and stayed.
Thinking back on it now, your heart warms.
Tying the three stems together with a neat little bow is a thin red string. You’re still unsure who came up with that idea, whether it was him or you, but you know as soon as it was suggested, it was a given. There is nothing you wouldn’t do to guarantee keeping him in your life, just as there is nothing he wouldn’t do to keep you. You both work well together, and have grown significantly since meeting all those long months ago in the spring.
How fitting to have such delicate flowers be the symbol of your love.
With another swipe over his skin, you pull the needle away. A flick, and the buzzing stops, taking a moment to admire your work. Though, in reality, you’re simply admiring him.
“Done?” He asks eagerly, attempting to look down at the design on the side of his ribs.
You hum, lips tugging upwards in a satisfied smile. “Done.”
Wooyoung grins, sitting up eagerly in his spot only to hop off of the chair and waddle excitedly over to the full length mirror you have resting at the side of your shop. His eyes flit over his side, admiring the new tattoo as he shifts back and forth lightly on his feet.
He lifts his gaze to yours in the mirror. “It’s beautiful.”
Gently, you place your tattoo gun to the side, reaching to grab the materials you’ll need to wrap it properly before you can truly say you’re finished for the evening.
“You’re beautiful, Wooyoung,” you respond casually, your expression soft as you watch him continue to admire the new tattoo.
He turns to you, a serious expression suddenly painted on his features. “Marry me.”
The words are so unexpected, you nearly drop the bottle in your hand.
You look up, blinking at him in shock. “What?”
Wooyoung begins to walk back over to you, each step firm and determined.
“Marry me.” His gaze is just as intense as the first time he says those words, coming over to kneel before you. Gently, he takes your hands into his own, holding them softly as he stares into your eyes. “You’re the only one for me, and I love you. I only ever want you. So, marry me.”
Your breath catches lightly in your throat, blinking down at him a few times as you study his features. You can see how his eyes shine with nothing but love and adoration for you, his throat working slightly as he waits with bated breath for your response.
Your lips part. “Okay.”
Now, it’s his turn to blink in shock at you. That is, until a brilliant smile is lighting up his features. “Really?”
“Really.” A low chuckle escape you, and you lean forward to place a tender kiss to the tip of his nose. “Now, get back up here so I can wrap you properly.”
A devious grin tugs at his lips as he stands back to his feet, moving to sit back on the chair. His eyebrows wiggle suggestively, hands gripping the sides of the seat as he leans towards you.
“Want to get a head start on practising our vows?”
You smack his arm lightly. “Wooyoung!”
“What?” He chuckles, his eyes crinkling at the sides as he positively beams. “I’m just enjoying the perks of marriage early!”
You shake your head, beginning to treat the freshly inked tattoo on his side.
A loud gasp escapes him, causing you to nearly stumble out of your stool.
“Does this mean I finally get to call you wifey?”
You can practically see him trembling in excitement as you huff out a breath in amusement. “You already call me that.”
“Yeah, but context!” He beams, wiggling his eyebrows once more. “Oh! I wonder if Hwa will be your maid of honour.”
“Why don’t you ask him?” You snicker, knowing damn well Wooyoung is going to be smacked for so much as inquiring such a thing.
“And then we have to decide on a cake, and flowers-“ His excited ramblings fill the space, only causing a loving smile to pull at your features.
Once you’re done wrapping his tattoo, you look up at him, heart swelling with warmth at how excited he seems to be. Your eyes settle on the side of his ribs. You have a feeling you know exactly which flowers are going to be used, and if you’re being honest with yourself…
You wouldn’t want it any other way.
