necrotic attraction
[pt: necrotic attraction /end pt]
A type of attraction associated with morbidity and decay, where the lover is drawn to the macabre and grotesque aspects of their object of affection. Emotions fluctuate between morbid fascination and visceral repulsion, as the lover confronts the darker aspects of their desires. The lover may feel the need to "bury" the S/O inside their heart or mind to fully connect with them, as well as indulge in macabre activities with them, blurring the lines of life and death.

I hate it when people lose weight and now people know it’s socially unacceptable to say “wow you look so much better being skinny” and instead they’ve learned to say shit like “you look so much more confident!” even when they’re the same level of confident/confident-looking. Like babes can we please be so fucking for real. It was better when they outright said to starve yourself lmaooo

hi, coming from the dark urge tag. What letter is there about the gortash and durge attraction you talked about in your post? If you could link it or summarize it that would be great, as I haven't found it anywhere. Or maybe I have and forgot lol. thanks!
Hi, im happy to help
So in the Mind Flayer Colony beneath moonrise, there's a massive room off to the right of the entrance to the boss arena, or above Chop's room depending where you enter, called the Necrotic Laboratory.
Standard mob battle: Death Shepard and Zombies + Winged Horrors, blah blah blah. That's not important. What is important is there are two areas you can access via jumping: Mind Flayer history lesson room and Balthazar's hidey hole. Balth's hidey hole is the one with the glowing purple rock in it.
In Balth's hidey hole you find a bunch of body parts, a talking head on a pedastal, said purple rock, and a letter near the entrance called: A Prayer For Forgiveness.
Tumblr media
The literal Antichrist was like "Forgive me father, I'm kind of digging Gortash 's vibes but I promise I'm not in love or anything! Ill definitely kill him and not kiss him on his lips don't you worry." and apparently Orin was telling literally everyone about how besotted her sibling was with Gortash if the note at the very bottom is anything to go by.
Why on earth Balthazar has this note, or why Orin would spend more than a nanosecond around his rancid vibes is beyond me but here we are.

headcanons on the Cazador spawn family
because i had to write the family into my fanfiction, i spent a good hour in the szarr manor just scrounging for details.
additional credits to this redditor who helped get me started. i won't be going over the details that they already succinctly summarized, i'll only go over my extrapolations
tw: mentions of SA, ptsd, and all the gory details you'd expect from astarion's personal quest. and spoilers, of course.
Cazador Szarr:
in many ways, i want to write cazador as astarion's foil, and someone who has very similar views to an ascended astarion, even if he has a relatively different personality. i saw him as someone more introverted and calculated than our hedonistic, in-the-moment ally, but they are joined in the sense that both of them are intentionally cruel to others and possessive over what is theirs. i also wrote him as a necromancer wizard. just seemed to fit.
one thing that seemed to stump many is why there were only seven spawn that cazador kept, but seven thousand he could have chosen from. my theory is this: cazador was truly trying to build some semblance of family, as fcked up as it became. i also don't think that he ended up seeing them as family, and that his viewpoint constantly changed between seeing them as family, lovers, and slaves/tools for his own pleasure. astarion truly loved you before he ascended, and in the same vein, i imagine cazador had an innocent wish as a spawn, or even as a human: he wanted to be a father or a lover, apparently to a large family. this frames how i view the 'siblings'.
Leon Onufrio:
the only spawn with a last name, oddly enough. astarion says that he was 'one of (Cazador's) firsts', which led me to believe there must have been at least one before. i wrote leon to be his first. this makes sense for cazador's first spawn, since cazador seemingly has an affinity towards pretty men. it made sense to me that he could lure in a human with the false promise of eternity, and that he would choose one who seemed responsible and kind for his first 'son'. he is the only one with a daughter, and the only one with limited access to magic. he also seems to understand cazador well, being the first to realize that astarion is right to believe in cazador's cruelty over their false promise of freedom. i imagine cazador would have wanted him to play the role of a 'responsible older brother', and allow him the most independence. the first to have a child, the top hunter, the role model. amongst the spawn, he is the golden child, aka just had the most time to adapt to cazador's ways and go towards people pleasing. and due to his role, cazador allows him to play this.
i wrote him as a shadow magic sorcerer, because we know he is canonically a sorcerer and that he managed to place a necrotic curse on his daughter's blood, in case anyone would go after her. shadow magic seemed fitting for a vampire. it seemed like the type that would attract cazador.
I know that canonically there's a likelihood that he was the last spawn that cazador took in, and he had to take victoria with him and had to be in a position to actually mpregnate someone, but i just wrote it such that he managed to do so while he was a spawn... which is possible, astarion fans... it is possible...
Astarion Ancunin:
canonically astarion's one of cazador's firsts, and i chose to make him the second. i figured if i were an evil, narcissistic asshole playing 'house' with a son, artistically, a cain-and-abel dynamic with an 'ideal' older son and a resentful, evil younger brother. it is also known that astarion was rebellious, and cazador took specific glee in punishing him. that's right, according to this theory: astarion was always built to fail. he was always made to be punished in his role, regardless of what he did. he was meant to be broken over and over again, but not broken enough to stop rebelling entirely, because this would mean that he didn't fit his role well enough. he would be punished according to his role, because you could not be too rebellious, but then he could also be punished if he did not rebel enough, because then he wouldn't suit cazador's cruel playacting. he is the 'rebellious second-born'.
using the bg3 canon, astarion is an arcane trickster. i write him as a thief, never quite having enough time or wanting to put enough effort on honing his magical ability, moreso focusing on surviving.
Dalyria:
the rest of the spawn get a little more difficult, as less and less of them are known. we know dalyria was a physician, she cares about astarion, and she killed leon's daughter to try and discover a 'cure' to their vampirism. i just wanted to write her in relation to the others as a "mature and elegant older sister". one who genuinely has other people's best interests at heart. i also wanted to keep in mind the doctor's hippocratic oath and how that may have degraded and suffered from cognitive dissonance under years of abject torture, especially with what she ended up doing to victoria.
as it stands, there actually is a 'physician's touch' feat in dungeons and dragons, under the monk: way of mercy subclass.
Aurelia:
personally, i thought aurelia was really cute. she's also the only tiefling in cazador's coterie. continuing with the pattern, i thought perhaps cazador could also think so: she plays the role of the 'cute, anxious younger sister' that needs to be coddled a bit. she allows the hope of freedom to be dangled in her face.
in my hypothetical, she was innocent and it was probably easy for cazador to lure her in. perhaps she was already treated poorly by the world as a tiefling, and cazador pretended to be a kind, caring, gentle figure. whether as a father, or a lover. she seems to be the most aware of cazador's schemes and easy to control.
because she was captured while she was still innocent, and i made it so that after capture, none of cazador's spawn could really 'grow' as people while under his control (hence why astarion is level 1 when we meet him), i don't have a class for her yet, other than the charisma-based inclination based off her tiefling nature. i do have two little plot hooks for her though, so i'll see which direction she decides to go in.
Petras:
what we mainly know is that petras is a bit of an idiot, according to astarion. while this would normally hold very little juice, since astarion thinks all acts of good are idiotic, we also see that petras is regarded this way in general, such as looking for a meal when he finally is allowed his freedom. his role was "dumb younger brother".
i imagined him as a bit of a jock. not exactly ill-intentioned, but definitely ignorant. he also looked shorter and stouter than astarion--even though i know they most likely use the same model, i wanted to incorporate this. i wanted to make him a idiot-good paladin at first, and keep him as someone resilient and protective, but none of the oaths really seemed to suit him. i knew none of them could be a religious class, mainly for the reasons astarion brought up, and the oaths themselves didn't really serve him well. i settled on barbarian and flavour him with dhampir. yes, even though all of them are technically vampires and petras specifically was a human in life, i just used character sheets to make things easier.
Violet:
Violet was at least a little interesting--mostly because of her diary. she constantly writes about playing pranks on other people and overall being a menace. she's also the only other person to be in the 'favoured spawn' room in recent history. while leon constantly tried to shoehorn his way in there for his daughter, she had no such attachment. i figured she just was a little cruel, and enjoyed the suffering of others so much that she may have actually enjoyed the killing a vampire would do.
i also had cazador enforce this behaviour, because in this hierarchy, she is the 'bratty younger sister'. the favoured youngest spawn. i made her a gloom stalker ranger. i wanted her to be ruthless in the way that she got her kills, attacking others while she had the advantage, and still having some skill. i also wanted an overlap where she and astarion could reconnect so that she wouldn't be completely lost and evil, what with both of them being sneaky and such. plus helps with the pranks role, and gives her some capacity for wisdom
Yousen:
the final sibling. the only thing i think we ever find out about this guy is that violet played a prank on him once. i imagine that cazador saw him as a joke. his stature doesn't fit his team, he's not particularly their type, and he doesn't seem to be treated very well. i think of him as the 'black sheep' of the family. the 'runt of the litter'. this is the role he is meant to play.
however, even though this is the role he plays, i didn't make him this way at all. i headcanon this is the 'character' cazador cared least about. i don't think he took much time carefully picking it out, since yousen would also be the last spawn chosen for the ritual, and at this point, cazador figures they're all going to die anyways--he just needs to complete the family. there was a lot i could do here, with so little known about him. i made him reclusive and resentful, which makes him seem to fit the role, but deep down it's mostly because he's hardened and jaded. i made his backstory as a soldier--perhaps one that cazador found drunk at a bar one day and figured he would make a good joke, a runt, and effectively the most misunderstood.
he is a battle master fighter. or, well, formerly was. i had him lose a significant amount of skill during the years that he became a spawn. also during cazador's ritual, if you examine everyone, he and leon are the only ones with blood on their mouths. i felt that this meant they were the only two who attempted to fight cazador before becoming sacrifical lambs. (note: they also have it at the camp when they attack astarion, but this could still be valid and also i don't trust the texture mapping they did with the spawn, what with their red bodies) i thought a sorcerer and fighter could make a badass combo. also, there are a lot of people who sleep on the halfling fighter builds.

(re)cover: the campaign
Tumblr media
If you're wondering why the blog has been quiet these last few weeks it's because Shalee (director of KamehameHamlet) and I are ramping up for a remount of her show (re)cover: The Campaign. First performed in 2022 as for of the Right Here showcase, she is performing it along with two friends this Friday as part of a larger event which includes a panel discussion following the performance. For Twin Cities folks, this event is free and open to the public, click to learn more about the event including parking and venue information here. (re)cover: The Campaign Meadowbrook Guild Bounty Board Typically Meadowbrook is a safe and attractive community full of loving families and giggling children. But as of a week ago, a scourge, believed to be magical in nature, has suddenly appeared in our neighborhood. Passersby are reporting radiated debris covering blighted plant life and a revolting stench. Without witnesses or evidence of an inciting event, We cannot say how the scourge appeared in sleepy Meadowbrook. The Guild has researched recent and historical records of the area, but believe magic is affecting the community’s memory, as no one can place what was there before. We fear that the scourge will spread and could cause complete decimation. Seeking: Two seasoned surveyors with experience investigating unusual and necrotic events. Mission: Enter the scourge, identify the cause, and report expert recommendations to the guild for immediate action. ______________________________________________________________ (re)cover: The Campaign is a performative role-playing story. Created by Shalee Mae Cole Mauleón and determined by two improviser actors. On April 26th, Beckett Love and Bri Patnode and their characters take on this bounty.

PLEASE talk to me about Azalin, I want to hear every word of your take on him.
Tumblr media
ANON, I AM SO HAPPY YOU ASKED ME THAT! I don't have a COMPLETE picture yet since I haven't read every single ravenloft supplement and novel, but I think I've read enough to put together a picture of what this man would be like in a relationship.
WARNING, I talk about his sex life and what his kinks are under the readmore. Another content warning for unhealthy relationship dynamics. Proceed with caution!
SO. Azalin Rex. Darklord of Darkon. Before we really get started, let's establish one thing.
From what I've seen, the only canonical time we see Azalin go out of his way for a sexual relationship is when he wanted a son. It wasn't out of love or lust, it was to secure an heir to Knurl.
A lot of people speculate that Azalin is aroace, and I can totally see that.
HOWEVER.
I also think, at the same time, he's a massive fucking pervert who gets off on other things.
Tumblr media
Alt Text: "Azalin encourages his subjects to debase themselves as a method of societal control and to soothe his battered ego. He throws depraved, seasonal masquerades for the nobility to flaunt his superiority; he toys with his servants' allegiances, seeing how far they will sink to curry his favor. Azalin has honed torment to an art form."
This is an excerpt from one of the Ravenloft source books, and I think it perfectly illustrates what I'm talking about.
The biggest turn-on for Azalin Rex is power over others.
He doesn't join in the debauchery, he observes it. He sits back, gets comfortable, and watches people debase themselves. He tests people and sees how far they'll push themselves before they break. All because they want to please him and want his praise.
I think Azalin loves that. I think he loves having that power over so many people, and that he can have near-complete control over anyone he wants.
Hell, even in the questionable book Tower of Doom, where we see Azalin seduce one of his Kargat officers, it still plays into the dynamic we've established. He knows sex is a highly motivating reward. A high value treat, if you will. She did a good job, and sexual contact is particularly motivating for a lot of people, especially when it's with someone you would do anything to please.
The fact that close-contact sex with Azalin is apparently necrotic and her flesh starts to rot afterwards is another point. Azalin will cure the necrosis and restore her body when she returns, but only if she finishes the job he dispatched her to do. She is effectively on a time limit now, frantically trying to do what was asked of her so she doesn't die horribly.
Now, to be fair, I don't consider Tower of Doom to be canon. But it fits my hypothesis of Azalin's biggest kink being utter domination over others.
So what does that mean for a romantic relationship?
I think any relationship with Azalin Rex is going to be unhealthy at its core. He's a manipulative bastard who likes to watch how far people will go to please him. And it's not going to be a 'traditional' relationship--like I said, we never see him express any sort of interest in one in any of the canon supplements. A relationship with Azalin is going to be because he thinks it would be beneficial to him in some way, even if he is fond of the other person.
If he's still ruling over Darkon, I can see him taking someone as a partner if only because he's sick of his sycophantic court trying to throw their daughters at him in marriage. Very much an exasperated "You'll do" sentiment where it's more out of convenience than sexual attraction.
Even if he actually really likes the person he's with, he's still going to be subjugating them to his will, and that's just something that comes with the territory. Fundamentally, I think Azalin Rex is incapable of respecting anyone as an equal, and that's going to impact all of his interactions with people, romantic relationships included.

Ok, but,
Isn't there a difference between the kink itself and the relationship?
For many kinky people? No.
A lot of us, our relationships and even our lives and politics are built from the ground up around the tenets we learned as we learned about kink:
Consent is key
Always assess risks before taking action
Communicate your limits clearly (though not necessarily verbally)
Always listen when the other person says stop
Etc etc.
And those things, yes, can be sexual. But they can also apply to general life.
Even more specific kink stuff impacts daily living. If you're into raceplay, then you're going to be hypersensitive to the ways autonomy is stripped from others due to race, because now you know what an actual, consensual exchange that hinges on race looks like. And it never looks like the actual racists harassing their actual victims.
If you're into masochism, you're probably going to develop a pretty advanced knowledge of soft tissue care for impact and abrasion. And that's going to come up any time someone falls down the stairs and you happen to be the only sucker in the building who knows how to care for an under the skin blood clot so it doesn't necrotize (hint: elevation, pressure AND heat!).
It's often VERY easy to to not realize a particular type of bigotry is happening because you're just... unfamiliar with it! Ignorance is not a moral failing, but it does often contribute to the difficulty of having conversations such as this. I always end up talking past people because I forget not everyone knows the same background information as me.
Like, for example, the fact that "kinky" and "queer" are synonyms in the minds of many bigots, because kink is a subset of queer culture. And thus, kinksters are often subjected to all the same queerphobic drivel, on top of any queerphobia already experienced due to gender, sexuality, etc.
There's also... okay. This next part is controversial, but it's scientifically backed nonetheless.
At the neuro and psychological levels, kink is a separate additional vector of sexuality, same as sexual attraction and romantic attraction.
So! If you wouldn't say, "there's a difference between being gay and having a relationship," it's very similarly inappropriate to say, "there's a difference between being kinky and having a relationship."
Like, yes, there is a difference between those two things! But, just as I am still pansexual even when I'm single, I am still kinky even when I am not in a kink relationship.

Aight. So, here is one:
Necrotic: A type of attraction associated with morbidity and decay, where the lover is drawn to the macabre and grotesque aspects of their object of affection. Emotions fluctuate between morbid fascination and visceral repulsion, as the lover confronts the darker aspects of their desires. The lover may feel the need to "bury" the S/O inside their heart or mind to fully connect with them, as well as indulge in macabre activities with them, blurring the lines of life and death.
is this alright?
Hi sorry this took so long to get to I was shot in the head by depression but I made it I hope you like it(link)

Chapter Twenty: Sonne Pt. 6
“Good, you can take Envy then for your new sideshow attraction, I’m sure they’ll have a happier time there with their current looks.” Freddy said in a snarky manner, hoping to whatever divine force out there that it’ll be granted.
“Mr. Elric, I’m going to have to politely request that you do not feed Greed with any more ideas, he won’t shut up otherwise. Mouse, we are not selling Envy to Greed’s hypothetical circus scheme.” Lust advised bitterly as she finally decided to rest now that Envy was safely inside and not eating villagers at the moment.
Greed pouted at being called out like that, but it certainly didn’t kill his new drive to build a circus once Dante was six feet under and no longer a problem. Sure, there was still that trivial matter of Pride still on the loose, but that would be a later problem to fuss with at another time. This also proved to be a massive factor to the entire household, Greed was completely illiterate at reading the mood of the room as Greed sat there like a ball of sunshine. Hughes was very wisely in a different room with the other group, waiting a bit for the mood to calm down before attempting any sort of advice in regards to Envy’s predicament. This tension was given a raise when there came a clattering upstairs, drawing everyone’s attention at once. Immediately, Edward and Lust went up the stairs with Greed following behind for a show to watch as they went towards the source of the noise. They certainly didn’t waste time reaching the source of the commotion, the room that Lust and Dolly had earlier set up as the recovery room for Envy as the intruder lay splayed on the floor, having tripped over on the dresser placed by the window. As though the fates had felt this grease fire needed a bit more fuel to its inferno, it was none other than Hohenheim of Light who lay on the floor before the trio. Edward’s eyes grew cold and hard upon seeing the man who had abandoned him and his little brother all those years ago laying on the floor like a ragdoll. Lust was prepared for a fight to erupt in this forest cabin while Greed wished he had some popcorn to enjoy with this shit show.
“What the hell are you doing here? You have some fucking nerves to even show up here after everything you put my Brother and I through!” Edward had to be held back by Lust as he shouted profanities at his failure as a parental figure suddenly popping back into his life like that.
“That is enough Mr. Elric, just breathe, this is too small of a space to pick a fight in!” Lust held Edward in a bear-like grip to prevent any more drama from erupting. “Shit man, you’re also Dante’s Ex? I’m her Ex too!” Greed nonchalantly said with the social grace of a rock, Edward’s attention focusing in on that new little key detail. “Hohenheim, what the hell does he mean by ‘You’re Dante’s Ex’!? Did you leave us for that horrible bitch that ruined our lives!?” Edward was ready to murder his awful, rotten father right there and then upon being given that tidbit. “Edward no! No, I would never go back to that woman, not after what she did a long time ago.” Hohenheim said as he slowly got up and it was clear, he never recovered from the yellowjacket attack back in the botanical garden; in fact, they were necrotizing something fierce.
“Damn, you look like hell..” Greed was surprised with how much of a zombie Hohenheim appeared as Edward started to wrench at the odor.
“Before this entire thing is derailed, why did you break in here? How did you even find us?” Lust put her foot down at how this is going, simply put, she just wanted straight up answers.
“I guess I deserve to look like this… I managed to follow the one you call ‘Greed’ back here, I had to do some stalking to figure out where my Son was at. To finally answer the first one, I came because I owe my first born son, WIlliam, an apology after wrongfully abandoning him. It’s clear that he wasn’t a monstrous mockery afterall..” Hohenheim confessed as he held his head down low after realizing that mistake all too late.
“I..have an older brother?” Edward was shell shocked by this revelation being handed to him by Hohenheim, staring out into space a little bit.
“You do, you already know him as ‘Envy’.” Hohenheim said, adding more fuel into the disassociation that Edward was experiencing already.
Lust caught Edward as he nearly tumbled backwards from the news flash of being related to the deplorable reptile downstairs as Hohenheim attempted to make himself look proper despite looking ready to be placed in a morgue. It was clear to Lust and Greed that Hohenheim was very much out of the loop about Envy being sorta inhuman looking at the moment along with the fact they had a human eating spree not too long ago. This, however, didn’t last long as Hohenheim finally noticed the rotting fish smell of old human blood lingering about in the cabin having failed to give Envy a proper washing from their feast of terror. With a sigh, Lust motioned for Hohenheim to follow her downstairs as she helped Edward along the stairs, still very much out of it from the horrible new information his deplorable father revealed. Greed, once more, was silently wishing he had popcorn for this dramatic scene to enjoy, trailing along for this garbage fire to burn even brighter. Lust motioned for Hohenheim to look down on the ground as she carefully got Edward to sit down on the couch, his brother Alphonse worried for his well being. The look on Hohenheim’s face upon seeing what had become of his eldest child on the floor with a death grip on some fluffy creature was one that could’ve been a prime example of an expressionist’s painting of dread. Things were racing in Hohenheim’s mind before finally coming to the absolutely truthful conclusion that this whole thing was his fault for leaving Envy in the care of their horrific mother.
“What happened to my Eldest son?” Hohenheim finally asked after his moment of mortified silence had concluded.
“Funny story, Envy went on their own to confront their mother, it ended horribly. Did you know that ouroboros tattoos allow alchemists to override their chemical makeup and basically hijack their bodies in horrific ways? Yeah, that’s what happened to Envy, Dante hijacked them and turned them into a monster. A really fucking rude monster that was a very difficult patient to work with.” Freddy grumbled, not realizing it’s the same man he called a DILF back in the garden.
“...Okay I’d like to hear how my son ended up looking like…that without the commentary from the rude tiger pirate.” Hohenheim asked, his memory very strongly clear about Freddy and his mouth.
“I’ll take over from here, as the mouse said, Envy was being difficult for us when trying to change them back. Dolly, the unconscious fluffy one you see being held there, basically attempted to fix them. Unfortunately, as you can see, she had no experience in changing people back from being monsters and resulted in this display.” Lust explained as she emphasized on Envy’s pronouns.

find the word tag game
still catching up with games from when i was sick! please no hard feelings if i missed you, i'm trying to get everyone but there's a lot <3
thanks so much to @awritingcaitlin @dogmomwrites @words-after-midnight and @vsnotresponding !!!
my words: several, complain, difficult, stop, return / pause, head, forever, idea, time / pour, crime, trim, flesh, hand(s) / tale, throne, precious, brutal and shadow
tagging: @jamieanovels @kayedium-writes @little-mouse-gardens @regalserpent or anyone who sees this who wants to!
your words: play, medicine, spray, shoot, fire
this is a lot and under the tag! all are from twtr, my red riding hood retelling <3
nothing for: several, complain, or brutal!
difficult
Avery, who learned everything he knows through doing, finds it difficult to fathom what it must be like to have to wait to be told something to know it. If he didn’t know something, but wanted to learn, he went out and did it himself.
stop
The princess stops short in front of him, arms folded tightly over the beautifully woven waistline of her dress. “Must you come with me everywhere?”
return
Despite her small size and youth, the princess has already learned how to smile and wave just like her mother. The citizens are even more elated than usual to see her, since she has not been seen publicly since she first returned from the woods.
pause
They clomp past Avery on their way out, but pause to bow low for the princess beside him.
head
The Queen stands before him in her personalized shadow armor, shoulders pointed, gloved hands pressed firm into The World Table. Her cheekbones are high, from some angles making her face look almost skeletal. But head on, she is eye level with Avery and her gaze darkens.
forever
He has only been in the kingdom for a few months, but he remembers the tales and stories from his childhood. They are ambiguous all-seeing and all-powerful opposites that are constantly attracting and dispelling each other, forever in perfect balance.
idea
Sometimes at the school, I felt just as trapped as I do here. So I started sneaking out, and Darscafor seemed like a good idea because no one would know me there. She was nice to me.
time
For over a year now, he has been training her in her spare time, usually when there is an important meeting at The World Table, or when The Queen makes mention of her age, or any time Red becomes infuriated by her lack of knowledge.
pour
The bartender arrives, pouring more ale for Magnus, but Avery shakes his head so the bartender moves on.
crime
After, the principal takes him to the scene of the crime. It was on the edge of the courtyard, where a fountain sits among the grass, small fish roaming about inside with silvery pebbles resting on the bottom. The entire courtyard has been blocked off, despite there being no evidence of anything at the scene.
trim
Her only interest is in Avery, who stands by the wall in the formal attire The Queen bestowed him. It’s a dark blue tunic with gold trim and matching laces up the sleeves, the Merainian emblem over the heart.
flesh
But then the plague came, at first infecting only those with magic. It was horrific, leaving victims with blackened necrotic skin, high fevers, and confusion. In the end stages, they lost their minds completely and were even known to attack loved ones in attempt to consume their flesh.
hand(s)
Taking her hand, he guides the tip of her dagger to the seams that line the left side of his chest.
tale
“Do not worry yourself with old fairy tales, my dear,” her mother continues, patting her shoulder and moving to the closet to get her inauguration gown.
throne
But she spots her mother, just as the ball begins to fade. She rises from the throne and disappears out the side entrance, toward The World Table. Her mother has never left a ball early before, especially not for an unplanned meeting.
precious
What they have here is small, but precious. His life would look so different if his parents had made it here; if he had been raised here.
shadow
“But why hide it? It’s not illegal to possess shadow steel,” she says. “It is illegal to make it.”

A gigantic bird head running about on four long, scaly legs, achaierai are fiendish creatures that revel in causing chaos and destruction. Despite having no real need to eat, they hunt and scavenge, killing creatures and devouring corpses for fun. The thick, oily feathers covering the creature's body-head come in a variety of colors, though there doesn't seem to be any particular pattern as to why. They don't appear to be for attracting mates or providing camouflage. Perhaps they function for intimidation? Oddly, the creatures do have atrophied, flightless wings, rarely seen as they are buried under feathers.
While their beaks and claws are deadly weapons, capable of ripping a target to pieces, more terrifying to many is the horrific black smoke the creature can unleash. Leaking out of pores in its skin, the cloud surrounds the fiend in a cloud of pain and terror, melting flesh and causing violent confusion. These clouds can be useful for hit and run tactics, distracting opponents for the achaierai to retreat and launch another attack from a different angle. In groups they can coordinate their clouds even better, as they're immune to the effect. A group of achaierai can use the clouds to corral prey into position, or cause chaos in the lines of a battle to cover their retreat.
The achaierai tracks all the way back to the Fiend Folio, and appeared in the Pathfinder Bestiary 2. This post came out a week ago on my Patreon. If you want to get access to all my monster conversions early, as well as access to my premade adventures and other material I’m working on, consider backing me there!
5th Edition
Achaierai Large fiend, lawful evil Armor Class 15 (natural armor) Hit Points 120 (16d10 + 32) Speed 50 ft. Str 19 (+4) Dex 13 (+1) Con 14 (+2) Int 11 (+0) Wis 14 (+2) Cha 16 (+3) Skills Athletics +7, Perception +5, Stealth +4 Senses darkvision 60 ft., passive Perception 15 Languages Infernal Challenge 5 (1800 XP) Actions Multiattack. The achaierai makes three attacks; one with its Beak and two with its Claws. Beak. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 11 (2d6+4) piercing damage. Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 7 (1d6+4) slashing damage. Black Cloud (Recharge 5-6). The achaierai exhales a cloud of black smoke in a cloud around itself. Each creature except achaierais within 10 feet of the achaierai takes 10 (3d6) necrotic damage and must make a DC 13 Constitution saving throw, becoming poisoned on a failure. While poisoned in this way, the target can't take reactions and must roll a d10 at the start of each of its turns to determine its behavior to that turn. On a 1, the target takes no actions and uses all its movement to move in a random direction. On a 2 to 6, the creature doesn't move or take actions. On a 7 or 8, the creature uses its action to make a melee attack against a randomly determined creature within its reach. If there is no creature within its reach, the creature instead uses its movement to get as close to the nearest creature as it can. On a 9 or 10, the creature can act and move normally. A poisoned creature can repeat the save at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success. The achaierai can use this action three times per day.
13th Age

Greetings friends! I am on time this week . am late again, this time was even worse because I already wrote the post, I just didn’t post it. For my forgetfulness, you will get a free fun fact about the supervillain Lord Valthoraxe. I will now explain more about the Monsters of Alterra.
Starting off with the obvious, undead. Any creature can become an undead, but they have to either be “revived” by a lich or get corrupted by dark magic such as necromancy. Revived undead possess various levels of memory depending on how soon after death they were brought back. Even if immediately resurrected, the undead entity is forever bound to the necromancy user that revived them. If a necromancy user dies themselves, all of their resurrected undead become mindless, barely capable of movement. If an undead creature with only a skeletal structure remaining has their necromancy user die, their bones will fall apart, leaving the skeleton forever trapped in a skull until put out of their misery.
Prolonged use of necrotic magic can lead to the user becoming a lich. A necromancer can prepare for this by trapping their soul in an object before the corruption takes place, although this guarantees that the user will become a lich the next time necrotic magic is used. The process of becoming a lich is extremely painful, feeling the pain you would feel if your body went through the entire decomposition process every second that lasts until the next new moon reaches midnight. Once a lich arises from their death, they are fully sentient and possess all of their previous memories. They no longer age, and their necrotic magic is far more powerful, but they can no longer use any other form of magic. If a lich put their soul in an external object, that object acts as a backup that revives the lich one time if they are defeated in battle. This works one time, after which the lich must provide the object with 40-50 sentient souls to restore it. If a lich fails to restore the object, referred to as a “soulstone,” within a month, the will begin to fade away.
If a lich corrupts a living creature, that creature will be forcefully fused with the nearest other creature that is not of the cursed creature’s own species nor the lich themself. This causes a “curseborn” to be created, and are not bound to the lich. A cursed being is most likely to be fused with an animal, such as wolves, birds, and rats, and act no different to their prior selves. Due to the curse being necrotic in nature, removing it would instantly kill the victim, who would then later rise as an undead, same if the cursed creature is killed while cursed. Curseborns almost never gain any advantages from the beings they fuse with unless the lich that cursed them is over a thousand years old.
The only creatures that can’t get turned into undead are ones who don’t have meat based skin, such as golems, and magic users more powerful than the lich.
Now for the final undead or cursed creature, the ghoul. A ghoul is created when a sentient creature with a soul dies in their sleep during a time of mass civil unease, such as during a war or drought. Ghouls are cursed to roam the nights for all eternity, never able to rest again. They are mostly docile, only really attacking when approached, apart from one exception. If an adventurer experiences “bad sleep” while away from civilization, such as staying awake during the nights or are burdened by nightmares, their tiredness can potentially attract and aggravate a ghoul. There is almost no chance in escaping a ghoul, with the only places that they can’t reach you being deep underground, in deserts, and high in the mountains. Technically you can survive if you manage to avoid it until the day breaks, but that is extremely unlikely as they can and must move slightly faster than you. There is one other place that ghoul dare not go, even if they are able to. Ghouls will without fail not go further than 13 meters in The Lord’s Wastelands, but anyone who willingly enters those lands are already dead men walking.
Fun Valthoraxe fact; Valthoraxe’s favorite food is a tie between Alterra’s equivalent of honey, which is called sugarseep, and lemons, because they are some of the few things it can taste. Valthoraxe holds great respect for humwing guardians(beekeepers, but humwings are 70cm tall and very dangerous if annoyed) and has installed hidden automated defense drones around the perimeter of the guardians he secretly buys from, as well as orbital satellite defense that protect them from bandit attacks.
Next week (Tuesday hopefully) I’ll delve into the different types of magic used on Alterra, stay tuned.

#justanothermimicmonday Another mimic attracted to death, the barrow mimic doesn't always hang out with zombies. But when it does, it's at its happiest. Taking the form of a wheelbarrow, the monstrosity first came to this form around grave diggers using such instruments to move mounds of the infected dead. More than a few of those dead didn't stay still. It was hit-and-miss for the mimic until it figured out how to infuse and then use necrotic energy for itself. Now, it always has someone to wheel it around. https://boxofteeth.blogspot.com/2023/01/barrow-mimic.html
