Nobody talks about Red since the day she disappeared.
It was a tragedy. Her granny said she saw her walk into the woods but her mother said she never saw her walk out. The woodcutter has been silent both times and guilt lines his eyes, as though his two kids have disappeared again.
Red is gone.
But, recently, I've seen something strange. I was picking berries in the woods when I stumbled across a massive wolf taking down a deer. I hid, frightened I would be next, so the wolf did not see me.
But I saw it bark. A little while later, a little fox kit came stumbling out. I watched in awe as the wolf helped the fox eat from the deer, tearing meat from the bones, making sure they ate enough for their little body.
And once they were done, the fox looked towards me, unknowingly meeting my eyes. Their eyes reminded me of Red's big brown eyes, too intelligent to be a simple fox. They walked away together, side by side.
And, for a moment, I felt like I had seen Red again.

maybe a crazy take idk but i dont actually think many scenes in stories are 'unneccesary' i think they just make people uncomfortable and rather than try to understand the significance of that discomfort and why the author mightve deliberately inflicted it, decide that discomfort = bad, therefore that scene + the author are both bad

MY WRITING
i write a variety of genres, mostly fantasy. i like to blend genres and strive for diversity. currently i have finished works in urban fantasy, high fantasy, and fairytale retellings.
most of my stories explore complex relationships with gender and sexuality, marginalization/oppression, duty, familial and platonic relationships, nuanced morality, and subverting expectations.
