🚨 !! once again between a rock and a cold place !!

I actually don't like doing this because I know there are lots of people who need more help than me but I'm at the bottom of the barrel on my savings right now and we don't know when mom is getting discharged from the hospital. She's still on the PCA for pain control and can't be discharged until she's able to manage the pain with oral meds.

I'm staying with her on nights I don't have work but I'm getting behind at the office because the stress of the last month has my pain flared up so bad I can barely function.

Hello everyone.

You've seen me ask for help a few times over the past year and change and I'm indescribably grateful to all of you who helped us, but I have to put myself out here and ask for assistance one last time.

We just received an intent to evict notice. We have 9 days from today (11/22/23) to pay the full balance or action will be taken to begin repossession of our home.

We had been paying off our back rent steadily, throwing as much of our paychecks at the hole every two weeks like clockwork, over the past months and it was working. We were climbing, albeit very slowly, out of the hole and keeping ahead of any action like this by clearing the back balance out. But my husband lost his job in August because someone several cities away decided having a court appearance on record for back rent was sufficient grounds for firing. With that, suddenly we couldn't do it. We still put everything we could towards the rent, everything of my paychecks and his unemployment except the bare minimum to pay other bills and keep us fed, but it wasn't enough. He has just gotten a new job and we've started paying more again, but it was too late to clear that last back edge of the rent timer.

Please, please, anything you can do to help is appreciated. We don't want to lose our home. I'm not even sure where we would go.

Please, if you can put even $1 up to help, we'll be forever grateful.

i’m hoping that my surgery consultation will be booked in the next couple of months, so i SHOULD be able to get top surgery by the end of the year! i’m autistic, and chronically ill, so saving money is incredibly difficult as i need a lot of it for living costs, and every little bit helps go towards keeping me alive and getting my chest sorted out!

Domari Society of Gypsies in Jerusalem, a non-profit organization aimed at combating the major issues facing the Dom (Gypsy) community as severe discrimination, cultural marginalization and poverty, was founded in October 1999 by the society’s director Amoun Sleem in order to raise pride and cultural awareness within the Dom community. Economic Empowerment

Within the Dom community, women have the lowest status due to a traditional, strong patriarchal socio-cultural lifestyle and a long tradition of street beggary by women and children.

Empowering women in the Domari community

Jerusalem.

The dependent and inferior status of women is maintained not only through stereotypes associated with their traditional roles as mothers and homemakers but also through costumes of inheritance, patrilocal households (women moving into the household of their husband's family), and men’s complete authority in decision-making within the family. Thus, most women in the community are denied any education after the initial years of primary school, are made to marry at a very early age (around 15) to a man their father chooses for them and start having babies early on.

The main goal is:

- Provide Dom women professional skills and enable them to establish small businesses (even in their homes) without the need for large initial investments.

The sub-objections are:

- Awareness of women's rights and of their right to decide about their own life and the wellbeing and future of their children, particularly girls, despite the challenges facing women in a traditional society.

In addition, Domari director, a community member who is personally acquainted with the several hundred families in the community, has spread the news about upcoming courses orally (as most women are illiterate). Thus, we currently have a waiting list of 24 women who want to participate in one of the two 2019 vocational courses.

Giving Domari women the tools to work

All women who expressed interest in a vocational course are being notified now of the upcoming course, its planned dates and its requirements, upon agreeing to comply with the requirements will have priority in securing their participation.

If Domari director is eventually left with several vacancies in the planned courses, she will again orally advertise them and personally turn to women she knows, based on personal acquaintance, that are in need for such a course and who might be interested but may not have the courage to ask to participate. Considering the unique state of women in the community, such a recruitment method might be necessary. (x)
