There needs to be a national level discussion about eviction and not one with millionaire politicians putting their two cents in. I’m not justifying some gun nut shooting it out with law enforcement by any means but if this were handled differently lives could have been saved. Forcibly making someone homeless is one of the top ten most traumatic things that can happen and people are going to resist it. If it was indeed just unpaid taxes then other less severe measures could have been taken. Community leaders, social workers, and activists could step in and help plan a course of action. Sending armed officers in to every conceivable social situation needs to stop. The guy probably owed thousands while billionaires who owe hundreds of millions never have law enforcement sent after them.
Further, the push by Republicans to evict everyone immediately needs to stop as does their relentless drive to criminalize the unhoused. Nobody wants to be homeless. Decades of tough guy bully talk from right wing Fox News, conservative talk radio, Neo-confederate racist Republican politicians, and oligarch controlled social media has turned this nation into a cruel heartless place with no compassion for the vulnerable.
Red state legislatures are turning their privatized penal systems into debtors prisons. Being poor shouldn’t be a crime, nor should homelessness. We need solutions to lift everyone up not trickle down schemes to keep transferring wealth to the billionaire class.
Finally you can no longer be a Christian and a conservative. The term “Christian conservative” has become a contradiction in terms. Conservatism once meant low taxes, military preparedness, and a robust foreign policy that protected our allies and our trade. Now it has degenerated into being hateful animals consumed with rage, petty jealousy, contempt for the vulnerable, and hatred to everyone not in the MAGA camp. It is an abomination. A vengeful mob of ignorant degenerates led by media savvy Neo-Nazi oligarchs and power hungry Republican demagogues. Demagogues who preach literal Nazism, often openly quoting Hitler himself, to a mob that thinks wrong is right, hate is right, and corruption is good.
We have become the French Revolution in reverse. The angry mob is propping up the oligarchy that oppresses them while tearing down American democracy which seeks to level the playing field and treat everyone with equality, decency, and respect.

Evicted: Single Mom AU
Yang: (lets herself into Blake's apartment with the spare key) Hey, Babe! I thought I'd come over a little early and see if you wanted to go pick up Kela together.
Blake: (holding her face in her hands at the kitchen table with a sheet of paper laying in front of her)
Yang: Babe?
Blake: (silent sobbing)
Yang: Blake? (rushes to Blake's side and holds her tight) Blake, what's wrong?
Blake: (crying into Yang's shoulder) We're getting evicted from the building.
Yang: What?!
Blake: (holds up the eviction notice) The new owners of the building is evicting everyone. The whole building needs to be vacated by the end of the week. (slams the paper onto the table and plasters her face into Yang's shoulder) How am I supposed to find a new place to live in a week?! Much less move what little we have! There's no apartment complex in the city that doesn't charge out the nose for Faunus tenets!
Yang: (holds Blake tightly and strokes her hair) .....I might know someone who has cheap rent.
Blake: (sniffs back her tears as she tries to calm down) Who's that?
Yang: Me.
Blake: (eyes shoot open wide) Yang....
Yang: Hear me out! I know we haven't been together long, but I have the space after Ruby moved in with her totally-not-girlfriend. Kela can have Ruby's old room, you can take my bed and I can have the couch if that makes you feel more comfortable, and you don't even have to pay rent. Just help out with the bills and groceries. That's all.
Blake: Yang... that's too much. I can't put you out like that.
Yang: You're hardly putting me out. I wouldn't have offered if I wasn't sure. After all, my couch is super comfy!
Blake: (gives a wet chuckle as she wipes her tears) We can share your bed if you're adamant about me sleeping in it.
Yang: Sweet! Be warned. I'm a cuddler.
Blake: I think I can manage that.
Yang: And I snore.
Blake: You snore?
Yang: Like a bear.
Blake: I think I'll sleep on the couch.
Yang: Hey!
Blake: (laughs lightly) ....You're sure?
Yang: One-hundred percent! We can even put dating on hold until you can find another place if it bothers you that much. I don't want to see you and Kela put out on the street in the middle of winter because the new landlord is a twatwaffle.
Blake: (hugs Yang tightly) Thank you, Yang. I'll find a way to repay you.
Yang: Make me coffee in the morning or cook the first dinner. Those are your only choices. I'm not taking rent from you.
Blake: (sighs endearingly) Alright.

Some of the mothers and children evicted from four tenements on East 79th Street find shelter and beds for the night at the American Labor Party headquarters at 1484 1st Avenue, March 2, 1950. The families were ousted from tenements to make room for upscale housing.

Stolen Rent
Hey so I have a new update for everyone here. You know how you all helped me out with my bills, especially my rent? Well there was a guy who was helping us out, and he had the rest of what was needed and was going to get the money order and such for us so I could sign it and take it to housing.
Turns out the guy lied to my mom and said I had taken care of it and basically took the rent money. Along with that, my mom mailed rent for December but they never got it.
I need $346 before the 2nd. I hate that someone stole from us that had been helping us out this whole time. This is why I have such trouble trusting people in this town these days, you never know when they'll just steal from you, ugh.
If we don't get it, we will be terminated and evicted.

I am so sorry to everyone. We're trying to contact the guy to give us the money back for this but I have big doubts about it.

URGENT!!! We're unfortunately being evicted, without even a 3 months notice. Even worse, we should leave BEFORE December otherwise the storms will be very hard on us. The sooner the better.
Help us move in with our friend, and finally escape my unaccepting and abusive family, by sharing or donating, please! Not to mention the political state of Missouri that makes it dangerous for either of us to exist, as well as unable for me to transition.
Costs will cover Uhaul prices, and travel expenses.
I'm an autistic, disabled transmasc with multiple TBIs(brain damage) that make it difficult to function both in physical and mental aspects, so saving up this fast is impossible for us when we have to rely on one person. Anything will help us and be very very appreciated ❤️

Hey people,
I will be officially homeless on March 31st.
I've been trying to keep up with everything and not quite making it for months. It's finally caught up to me.
I've learned a pretty huge lesson... or rather many lessons. But because I have this current eviction process on my record, prospects for housing are extremely bleak.
I have no idea where to go after that date. I may have to get a motel.
Any and all help is super appreciated. Both my Ppal and $app are TransManDragQueen.
Please also share this, I would truly appreciate it.
Thank you all I hope you smile today

Earlier this month, Toronto and East York Community Council unanimously approved a rental housing demolition application for 25 St. Mary St., which is just south of Bloor Street East between Bay and Yonge streets. The property’s owner, Tenblock, wants to construct two new towers that are 54 and 59 storeys in place of the current v-shaped structure on that site. City council is set to consider the matter at its May 10 meeting.
[...]
Under City of Toronto Act, renters who are displaced by a building’s demolition are entitled to return to their unit and pay similar rent once the building is redeveloped. They’re also entitled to be compensated for their moving expenses as well as the gap in rent for a comparable temporary unit, and notice before vacating.
Those rights could, however, be compromised by newly introduced provincial legislation, which if passed, would weaken municipal rental replacement bylaws and give the province greater authority.

The most helpless I feel as a mental health counselor is when my clients are at risk of losing their housing. It’s so fucked up. Housing is a human right.
