It was a stupid idea to take a job like this. He'd waited and waited for his eye to heal and finally got fed up with waiting. He'd taken the first offer that had come his way.
And here he was, trapped on all fours, unable to speak, and with far more problems than a mere lack of depth perception.
He tried to shout and it came out a roar.
Fuck this. Fuck Gotham. He'd only come here because he needed something to get out of his own head, to stop seeing Joey's wide, terrified eyes every time he slept. He needed to run, to flee far and fast enough that he could outrun his greatest mistake.
He shouldn't have waited. He shouldn't have convinced himself that he was invincible, he was unstoppable, he was the best killer on the planet. He shouldn't have hesitated when he saw the man holding his son prisoner.
And here he was, trapped after all.
Slade grunted and forced himself forward, awkwardly crawling on his new limbs. No one had mentioned that there was fucking magic involved and now he was seeing shit in colors that didn't exist and trying to get used to moving four legs instead of two. The eye was still gone, though.
He couldn't even get the magician to undo it, because the man was dead.
When will you get it through your thick fucking skull that murder cannot solve everything, Adeline had screamed at him. Of course, she'd then done her level best to murder him, so Slade felt justified in ignoring her opinion.
Slade continued to drag himself to the warehouse door--and then paused. Where was he planning to go? His gear had been blown up by magic and his safehouse was blocks away. He couldn't unlock his security without opposable thumbs, or pick up a phone to call Wintergreen, or communicate with anyone. There wasn't a convenient sign hanging over his head that said 'actually a human!'.
He had, he realized chillingly, no idea if it could even be undone.
The sound of footsteps broke his horrified reverie and Slade immediately searched for a place to hide. He was a large animal, a predator judging by the sharp teeth and claws, and he did not want to meet whatever passed for Animal Control in this fucked-up city.
Unfortunately, he ended up cornered by animals of a different kind.
"Holy zoo jailbreak, Batman, is that a tiger?" a brightly colored kid exclaimed, peering from between a dark, forbidding shadow. Slade cast a glance at himself--he could only see white fur but he supposed it was possible. "How did it get here?"
Slade made a threatening growl as the vigilantes sidled forward and they froze. Well, Batman froze and Robin ducked around him.
"Robin!" Batman said sharply, but the kid ignored his orders. Of course he did, he was a kid, and Slade felt his ire grow--he had never meant to put Joey in danger and now his son was mute. What the fuck was Batman thinking, dressing his son as a brightly colored target and taking him out crimefighting.
"He's hurt, B," Robin said, still creeping forward. Slade snarled as loudly as he got, sending Batman rocking forward, but Robin ignored it. "See, he's bleeding!"
There was something wet and irritating in the crook of Slade's neck, and he kept having to fight the insane urge to lick it, but he held his ground, roaring furiously as Robin got closer.
"Robin!" Batman called out, now sounding distinctly worried, but the kid was barely a yard away from Slade now.
"It's okay," Robin murmured to Slade, holding out his empty hands. "I'm just trying to help you."
Jesus fucking Christ. Did this kid have no self-preservation or what? He was close enough to touch now, and while Slade wanted to lash out and test the sharpness of his claws, he also wasn't a monster. No matter what Adeline said.
He wasn't going to maul some kid barely older than Joey. Not when he kept seeing skin split open by a sharp knife, blood welling up almost as fast as the panic.
"It's okay," Robin soothed, gently placing a hand on Slade's head. Slade's ears flicked irritably. "I'm going to check if you're okay." Slade was not happy, but he let Robin examine the wound area on his blind side, keeping his eye fixed on Batman.
He growled low and deep when he caught the man creeping forward.
"Robin," Batman said tightly, "leave it. They can check on it when they take it to the zoo."
Slade snarled, loud and furious. He wasn't going to go meekly into some cage.
"But what about the evidence of magic?" Robin pointed out sensibly. He was a smart kid. "I don't think Gotham Zoo's equipped to take care of a magical tiger."
Very smart kid. Slade managed to figure out how to fold his legs and leaned heavily on the kid, half-pinning him in place as he glared down Batman.
Batman sighed, loud and put-upon. "Robin," he said, somewhere between firm and exasperated. "That's a tiger, not a pet. We're not putting it in the Batcave."
"He needs help," Robin said, voice wavering. "You said our job was to help whoever needed it."
Slade got to watch Batman, Dark Knight of Gotham, dreaded terror of criminals and vagabonds, fold like a bad hand.
"You're telling Alfred," Batman growled as Robin cheered in victory.
Slade decided to go along with the nudging. Batman and Robin were the only ones who knew about the magic, which meant they were his best chance at getting a solution.
It had absolutely nothing to do with the ear scritches. Nothing at all.

Dick froze halfway across a rooftop, the lights and gunshots of Bludhaven disappearing in an instant. A scowl flashed across his face, teeth clenched and bared, before he forced it back. His face smoothed back out and his voice took on a pleasant, amused tone. "Slade. How did you get this frequency?"
"Nevermind that," Slade scolded. "We have more important things that need discussing, and information to be revealed."
"Is this about Constantinople?" He asked with a lilt, propping one hand on his hip. "Because I thought I told you, those geese totally counted as villains and deserved arrest--"
"I found a child vigilante. What do I do with it?"
"Ex-cuse me?" His fist clenched. "Is this a trick question?"
"No."
"What do you mean, 'what do I do with it?' You know what to do with it; you become its nemisis when their 15 and haunted them for the next decade." His voice was thinly-veiled rage. He couldn't stop himself from shaking. That poor kid, Slade has his sights set on them. He's going to torture that kid, or worse, and now I have to track Slade's trail back to wherever he found this kid--
"I can't do that! He's only eight years old!"
"What?"
"There's this eight year old meta brat running around a Mid-West town in his pajamas while adults shoot at him. There isn't a mentor in sight, and one of the kid's rogues has threatened to skin him. What. Do. I. Do?"

Imagine: two assassin kids, well one kid and a teen, meet along the way, both alike in their intention to get the fuck away from the League of Assasins, but really
They can't stand each other. Damian's inferiority complex towards Cass and Cass' lack of patience for the sheer arrogance that brat's projecting.
Despite all that professional assassin co duct requires politeness. As much as two obviously traumatised kids can manage without it sounding at times like very pompous words shoved into a tiny kid and a silent teen who can actually kill you but even then manages to hold an aura of edginess.
Awww these two certainly rub off each other like that.
And still, both work somehow together, to get against the League and not alert Batman (another point in their life that brought them together cause who need more stress from a phantom that may cross their own murder plans).
And along the merry way came Slade.
(now we have an actual adult supervising two kids and fuck now he's starting to miss his own even if dysfunctional family, is this purgatory and where's the actual functional adult oh batman-- shit did you just stab me? ah fuck.)

So I’ve noticed that it’s a common trope in fanfiction for Talia to adopt Jason after he comes back to life and be a badass murder mom. It’s also pretty common for Slade to adopt Jason and be a murder dad/uncle. But now I’m wanting a fic where the two begrudgingly work together to coparent their two murder babies. Her trepidation didn’t decrease when she saw who was here to pick Mar’i up. He was tall, and big, moving with the solidity she saw in ex-military, and if she’d seen him on the street, she would’ve crossed the road to avoid him.
Maybe those had been gunshots she’d heard over the phone. The man was dressed in a button-up and jeans, but he also had an eyepatch and exuded disdain, and she clutched Mar’i’s hand harder as they waited.
Unfortunately for her, the girl wormed her way free. “Uncle Slade!” she chirped happily, and sprinted free to fling herself at the most dangerous person Katie had ever seen. She had a moment of ‘Mr. Grayson is going to kill me’ before Mr. Wilson knelt down and let the little girl plow into him.

Some Business Bozo puts a hit out on Vlad. Well, Nettie is said to be a problematic child, Only Jason and Tim checked her class background when they saw it was almost perfect before Lila but then Lila Rossi in background check came it raised red flags cause even a billionaire doesn't travel this much , way too much flaws and loop holes, hell she has criminal records for murder , suicide, harassment, money laundering and sexual assault etc .
Other bats treated her terrible than anything even left her to sleep on empty stomach and left her at Gotham Academy and Damian was pissed cause perfect grades and way to good reputation and Jon vouched her for injuries are indeed real but jealousy got best of him, he injured her more and shamed her for no reason who saw this behavior stopped giving him a glance where she was a great help and her organization plans helped school and student council.
Well, Bat family dismissed his behavior but that didn't got under radar of bat girls , Jason, Tim, they helped her while others just thought that's fair. Then Jon begged his parents to go to Wayne Manor if not Damian will kill an innocent person and would be out of it unchecked.
Diana and Arthur take Marinette a side and bow to her in recognizing the Miraculous. There were already Constantine, Zatana, Diana and Arthur. As soon as he scanned her " You call yourself World's greatest detective my foot who can't tell the difference between makeup and bruise ? You're son of a bastard is also one of the reasons as well as you for her physical, mental and emotional scars, no wonder when Diana met Talia she said she is utterly disappointed in Damian. As soon as Alya saw Lois and Clark and other heroes ready to go home before they rescued her and tikki transformed her back she ran towards them asked for interview and demanded when Rena Rouge is coming back . Darkness cataclysms her phone. She became Lady Wifi. As she was defeated , they made their way back home. Wonder Woman picked Mari up in her arms and Tim made a portal for Medway at Watchtower and helped her heal from her injuries applied by Batfam and her old classmates .
With the selection of miraculous holders, the hawkmoth was defeated by Storm . It was decided she will use miracles only in an emergency as she can use magic outside. Lila was taken down in a gala at La Garde Hotel were Chloe lives as CO-CEO of black knights and gates was revealed with proof of abuse of classmates and neglect of her problems , the school was sued a lot as Nettie was CEO of no . 1 company in the world. A adoption war broke out between Arthur, Jagged Stone, Batfam, Diana , Bourgeois, Constantine, Zatara, Queen , both Wilsons, Al-Ghul , Allen , Tsurgami ,Kents, Lucifer, Nightingale and Gardener, Jordan was actually smarter than others as he knew who did most of the funding and destroyed Injustice League and Lex Luthor, made a barrier greater than JL scientist can make for earth.
Well, the possibility for so called greatest detective to be even called detective and to adopt her was out of options and who never supported them saw toxicity of batfam and left to Mansion even bigger than Wayne's and Tim outright switched his job of CEO from Wayne to Black knights and gates settled for co- CEO with Chloe Mari and Jason. Why, Jason do have a degree for it , and broke the contract of merging Drake and Wayne enterprises to merge with Black knights and gates.
It made Bruce do all the work for Wayne's enterprises which he was serving his hours of torture that he gave to Tim force fully but black knights and gates have a system and most important, most honest employees do most of the work and get a bonus every week. They never slacked off or anything. Jason, Tim and Batgirls left all of their old personas for miraculous and magic.

Who knew treating the youngest CEO could cause a load of problems as well as his daughter.
