What if the Madrigals piled into a huge van and went to a mall?
Felix is the driver. He always brings along a bottle of water that Pepa always ends up drinking. He buys himself another one in the mall or begs Julieta for one. He likes to find new music to dance to or sheet music.
Alma sits beside Felix in the passenger seat. It's too hard on her knees to crawl into the back part of the van and she likes to be in a spot where she can see the whole family. She will usually meet an old friend for a meal or coffee, then shop with Julieta and Agustin when they get groceries. Everyone knows to meet them when the groceries are done to help load up the van because Julieta will send out a group text. This is the last thing they get done and they leave the city after.
Pepa sits behind Felix. She always forgets something and it's most often her water bottle, so she takes Felix's. She and Felix like to dance to Agustin's piano music if they see him playing in the mall. Felix will follow her around and carry her bags for her, even though she asks if he's sure he wants to do that. It makes him happy so she lets him. They'll help with the grocery shopping too.
Antonio sits beside Pepa and likes to bring along his stuffed jaguar because he isn't allowed to bring along any of his other animals. He has a system for who he spends time with and chooses a different person/group each time so that he can spend time with everyone. He always wants to visit the toy store and pet store, of course.
Julieta is on Antonio's other side and always brings along a large bag full of food, juice, water, and first aid supplies for the kids (and inevitably her husband).
Luisa sits behind Pepa. The far back seat is too tight for her to fit into and she wants to give the front bench to Antonio so he can sit with his mother. She likes to bring tea along for the ride and points out all of the farm animals in the fields.
Isabela sits beside Luisa. Isabela and Luisa usually end up hanging out together in the mall. They like to try on different clothes, check out the bookstore, and visit the gardening section.
Agustin's behind Julieta and beside Isabela. He almost always slams his finger in the door or hits his head getting into the van. Julieta and Agustin like to find a nice restaurant to have a meal together before they go shopping. Sometimes Agustin will play the mall piano for a little while.
Camilo sits in the far back seat behind Luisa. He's always got a prank or some other scheme planned for mall shenanigans. He usually drags Mirabel and/or Bruno into it. When he isn't planning schemes, he likes to visit the music store and Mirabel drags him to the craft store.
Mirabel sits beside Camilo and likes to bring one of her embroidery projects along for the long car ride. Camilo usually keeps distracting her with his plans so she doesn't get much done. She likes to stock up on her sewing supplies and likes the arts and craft store.
Bruno sits beside Mirabel and always has a huge coffee in his hand. Being outside of Casita is exhausting, never mind being in a huge mall. If he can get away from Camilo's plans, he likes to hang out with Dolores in the book store, music store, craft store, and pet store. He makes sure he's never alone in the mall.
Dolores sits beside Bruno and behind Agustin. It's usually the quietest corner of the van and she likes to watch outside the window as she listens to music through her headphones. If she isn't with Bruno, she likes to hang out with Luisa and Isabela.

At what point all the neurodivergence in the family were discovered? And do others (who weren't reincarnated in another au) have anything?
Big time.
So I’ll just place a list of everyone’s diagnosis for anything, I guess:
Alma - Anorexia, C-PTSD
Pepa - ADHD, Autism, Dermatillomania
Bruno - Autism, OCD, SAD, Trichotillomania
Agustín - Dysgraphia
Isabela - ADHD, Dyslexia
Dolores - Autism, Selective Mutism
Luisa - Autism, Bulimia
Camilo - ADHD, Autism, Trichotillomania
Mirabel - PTSD
Antonio - Autism
Italics are things that haven’t been diagnosed.
A lot of the neurodivergence was picked up when the children started school:
Pepa and Bruno were both noted for Autism, but Pepa also showed signs of ADHD, in their first year
Agustín was diagnosed with Dysgraphia in his third year at school
Isabela’s Dyslexia was diagnosed in her second year. Her ADHD, however, wasn’t diagnosed until the start of high school
Dolores and Luisa were both diagnosed with Autism towards the end of high school. Dolores’ Selective Mutism was diagnosed in her second year at school
Camilo was diagnosed with ADHD when he first started nursery
Antonio was diagnosed with Autism pre-starting school
The other conditions were either formed later in life or weren’t noted at the time.
Conditions that have been diagnosed but weren’t in school years:
Alma’s Anorexia was from her twenties, in response to Pedro’s death. The midwife for the triplets picked up on her symptoms and had her attend therapy. Her C-PTSD was also diagnosed around the same time, subsequently.
Pepa’s Dermatillomania had been ongoing since high school but she didn’t think it was much of an issue. As a young adult, she fell into a loop hole of mental health and slowly realised that she had a problem, seeking out help.

Modern au headcannons for upcoming stories
These head cannons are for my modern au that is set in the early 90's and extends through to present day. Ocs will come later for right now Isa and Dolores are only smol
Pepa owns a small business where she makes custom jewelry with crystals she tumbles herself. She also makes photo frames and nerdy home decor to sell.
Julieta runs a catering business out of the home. She has plenty of room and is excellent at time management. Her clients always leave astonishingly large tips for her because the quality of her work is so high.
Agustin is a carpenter, he works from 6am to 8 pm on weekdays and has weekends off unless there is an important deadline. He usually brings home the biggest weekly pay unless it's the holidays, then Pepa brings in big bucks for her commissions.
Felix works with his brothers at their pool and outdoor refurbishment company, depending on the day he could install a pool, mow lawns, pressure wash sidewalks, etc. He goes in at 7am after dropping the kids at school and is often home either by or before 6 the next evening. Rare occasions have him working later especially if complications arise with a pool
Isa and Dolores are extremely crafty and responsible. There's always some type of craft or project in progress between them. In their spare time they like to do all sorts of things as far as sports or creativity goes.
Luisa is often roped into the eldest two's shenanigans and she loves it because sometimes she feels left out because she's two years younger than them.
Mirabel and Camilo love to run and play while Pepa and Julieta keep watch. When they're playing their favorite game to play is pretend, Camilo has such a big imagination and Mirabel feeds off of him. They can come up with some wild stories
Dolores and mariano are high school sweethearts
Casita keeps magically growing and each kid has a subdued gift (ex Pepa only controls the weather of the room she's in or has a small cloud above her head only, Isabela can only make flowers bloom or form flowers in her hands)
Bruno is a truck driver and is seldom home, he comes home only for holidays or if he's in the area.
The house is on a half acre property and is completely fenced in.
All kids have bicycles and roller skates. The five of them like to take the evening and go around the block. The eldest can go by themselves to most places in town. Luisa is usually accompanied but can go on her own if she pleases, Mir and Milo must be accompanied if they leave the property.
There is a large backyard swing set and play house for the children to play on.
The eldest girls have flip phones. Though they hardly ever use them unless it's an emergency. They all love playing games on the family Nintendo (GameCube, then Wii after Christmas 2003)
To prevent arguments each family member has their own Gamecube and Wii remote to use.
Hope you enjoy ❤️

Can you please do a where Julieta sees that loads of the birth control was taken but Pepa didn't take that much, so they get suspicious of their girls and it turns out to be Dolores or Isabela.
Sure! I love this idea, and I hope I did it justice. It's a bit long; I seem to be incapable of writing shorter things anymore. Enjoy!
Julieta came home after a surprisingly light day of healing. Either people hadn’t gotten hurt as much, or they’d learned to get by without her gift during the months when their Casita was being rebuilt. Finding herself with unexpected free time, she decided to take stock of her inventory of healing supplies and see if she needed more of anything.
She sorted through her various herbs, hung in bunches around the kitchen or stored in jars in her little cupboard. Methodically, she went through each herb, writing down how much she had left in her notebook. Soon, cramped but neat handwriting littered the pages. The amounts of each herb were about what she expected for the time of year. She’d been keeping track of her supplies since she was a teenager, and she had discovered there were trends to when certain herbs would be used more frequently. Winter colds required different remedies from spring allergies. But many stayed relatively constant.
When she reached the herbs used for feminine ailments, she found a surprise. Her stock of contraceptive herbs had been nearly depleted. Sure, the tea needed to be drunk every day, and Julieta had, of course, kept track of which women she’d given some, but it didn’t explain the unexpected shortage she faced. Someone must have been helping herself to her supplies, but who?
She racked her brain for the people she knew used her remedies. Most of them were outside her family (except Pepa) and stopped by regularly to pick up some more herbs as needed. Julieta never gave out too much at once, wanting to minimize the risk of someone accidentally drinking too much and getting hurt. But here she was, with about three months’ worth less herbs than she expected to have.
Julieta frowned. She’d have enough to get through the month but would need to grow some more to keep up with demand. Normally, she preferred to grow her plants herself. Something about tending her plants from a seed to a full-grown plant made the experience extra gratifying. Plus, she enjoyed getting her hands dirty; scooping out dirt to nestle in the seedlings, breathing in the earthy scent, even getting dirt under her fingernails didn’t bother her. It was all proof of her hard work that would go on to help people.
However, she didn’t have that luxury now. As much as she hated to do this, she’d have to ask Isabela for help. It didn’t seem fair to use her daughter’s gifts in this way, but…this was to help other people, right? So that made it okay.
Wait. Isabela… Isabela was the right age to use contraception. And she’d have easy access to it too, living here and knowing where it was stored. Surely she wouldn’t need it though… she wasn’t even seeing anyone, as far as Julieta knew.
As far as she knew. Julieta sank into a chair, feeling faint. It wasn’t so much the idea of Isabela using the herbs that upset her as much as her taking them on her own. Isabela was an adult, and she was allowed to partake in adult activities. In fact, Julieta should be glad that Isa was being responsible and taking precautions, even if it meant bypassing her in the process.
Logically, she knew all of this. But part of her still hurt. She tried to let her girls know she was here for them when they needed her, but if Isabela had decided to circumvent her mother to get her hands on the birth control, had she succeeded? Had she managed to build up that trust with her children, if they were hiding such important life decisions from her?
Julieta sighed, rubbing her temples. She had done everything she could think of. She’d given the girls the talk after they entered puberty. Made sure they got an accurate, objective version of the facts from her instead of hearing exaggerations from others. She had never shied away from any awkward conversations, letting her girls know she was a safe person for them to go to. Yet Isa still didn’t trust her.
If it was even Isa taking the herbs, she reminded herself. You don’t know it was her. Indulging herself in one last sigh, she got up. Wallowing in self-pity wasn’t going to fix anything. Time to actually do something about the problem.
She knocked on Isabela’s door tentatively, clutching her little notebook in her hand. The door creaked open to reveal Isabela pruning some of her plants.
Julieta smiled at the sight. Before, Isabela had relied fully on her gift to care for her plants, but after losing it temporarily, she’d really taken to the more hands-on approach. Julieta stepped inside the room, announcing her presence. “Isa, it’s me, can I come in?”
Isabela looked up from the plant she had been working on. “Of course, mamá.” She set down her shears, wiping her forehead with the back of her hand. “Is everything okay? You look stressed.”
“Oh, uh, yes…everything is fine.” Julieta swallowed.
“You don’t look fine.” Isabela scrutinized her. “Seriously, what’s wrong?”
Julieta sighed. “I need your help. Someone’s been taking some of my herbs and I’m running out. I need you to help me grow some more, quickly, so I have enough to give everyone.”
“Okay…which herbs do you need?” Isabela walked over to Julieta.
“These ones here.” Julieta handed her the notebook, opened to the page listing what she used for contraception.
Isabela peered down at the page and nodded. “I can do that. I can have these ready by the end of the day.”
Julieta let out a sigh of relief. “Thank you, mija. I really appreciate your help.” She leaned in to hug her daughter.
“Of course, mamá. Glad I can help.” Her voice was cheerful, but she tensed up in the hug, tipping Julieta off.
This was it. Gathering her nerve, Julieta spoke up. “Isa…” Julieta placed a hand on her shoulder. “You know you can talk to me, right?”
“Yes…” Isabela’s voice lilted up towards the end.
“About anything,” Julieta emphasized.
“Yes, mamá, I know,” Isabela replied impatiently, rolling her eyes.
The gesture reminded Julieta so much of Pepa. It was remarkable how much of her sister she saw in her daughter. “So if you ever need anything, you can ask,” she continued.
“Thanks, mamá.” Isabela sounded confused. “But I already know all that. Why are you telling me again?”
Julieta closed her eyes. She had to drop the pretense. “Isa, the herbs I need you to grow… they’re all used for contraception. You know, birth control,” she clarified. “Someone’s been taking my herbs and that’s why I’m out.” She paused, waiting for Isabela to catch the insinuation.
“Oh…” Isabela gnawed her lip nervously. “And, uh, you think it was me?”
“Listen, it’s absolutely fine if you do need it. In fact, I’m proud of you for taking precautions and being responsible.” Julieta took Isabela’s hands in her own, beaming at her.
“Um, mamá…it wasn’t me.” Isabela admitted, averting her eyes.
“It wasn’t?” Julieta was perplexed. “Who else could it possibly be? You’re the only person I can think of who might need it.”
Isabela hesitated, an unsure expression flitting across her face, then recovered. “Well, I don’t need it, but if I ever do, I’ll be sure to let you know.” She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. “Hope you figure who’s been taking your herbs though.”
Julieta wasn’t fooled. “Isabela…do you know who’s been taking my herbs?” The question was gentle but firm.
Isabela gnawed on her lower lip, staying silent.
“You know, but you won’t tell me,” Julieta deduced.
Isabela gave a small nod and did not elaborate.
Julieta pursed her lips. “I see I’m not going to get any information out of you.”
She shook her head. “I’ll start growing those plants, mamá. They should be ready by tonight.”
Julieta watched as her daughter returned to her gardening. Knowing she was being dismissed, she left her room and went back down to the kitchen.
Pepa was leaning against the counter, sipping something out of a mug.
“Hola, hermana,” Julieta greeted her hurriedly, bustling around the kitchen.
“Hola…” Pepa said serenely, her eyes following Julieta as she zigzagged across the kitchen. “You look busy,” she noted.
Julieta stopped in her tracks. Truthfully, she wasn’t even doing anything, but she was so full of nervous energy that she had to get it out somehow. She forced herself to take a deep breath and face Pepa. “And you look like you’re enjoying your tea.”
A soft smile lit up Pepa’s face. “I am.” She brought the mug up to her face to take another sip.
Julieta couldn’t help but return her smile. “It’s not the special tea, is it?” She dared to ask.
Pepa shook her head. “No, just regular tea.”
“Oh. Okay.” Julieta exhaled hard.
Pepa eyed her warily. “Why do you ask?”
“Are you still drinking the special tea?”
Pepa laughed. “Of course. Three children is definitely enough at my age.”
Julieta nodded, wringing her hands. “And you’re still drinking it the way you’re supposed to?” Maybe if Pepa had started going through the change, she would think she’d need extra.
Pepa gave her a bewildered look. “Yes, Julieta. Same way I’ve been drinking it for years.”
There went her last hope. “Okay, make sure you don’t drink any extra.”
“Why on earth would I drink extra?”
Julieta shrugged weakly. “Well, I went through the change last year and I know I was tempted to do anything to make it stop.” She forced a laugh.
Pepa shot her a withering look. “I’m not stupid, Julieta. I know not to mess around with your herbs.”
Julieta’s lips pulled into a tight smile. “Good. I just wanted to check.”
Pepa frowned, setting down her mug. “You’re being weird, Juli. Why are you being weird?”
She started wringing her hands again, feeling her short nails dig into her palms. “Someone’s been taking my herbs.”
Pepa’s eyes widened at the revelation. “And you thought it was me?”
“I hoped it was you,” Julieta corrected her. “Because the alternative…”
“Alternative?” Pepa’s features screwed up in thought.
“Think about it, Pepa. It has to be someone who’s had easy access. Not like people in town would break and enter just for that.”
“I might have, as a teenager,” Pepa pointed out chuckling. “If I knew someone in town had a remedy that would allow me to sleep with my boyfriend without any risk of getting pregnant, I’d definitely consider it. Lucky you’re my sister and I could go to you without feeling embarrassed.”
“Mhm” Julieta crossed her arms, unconvinced. “Need I remind you, Pepa, you also started off taking them without telling me?”
Pepa had the decency to look guilty. “Okay, okay, but that’s only because I knew I could get to your supplies easily. It all worked out in the end.”
“Which brings us back to people who have easy access… There are five women living in the house. It’s not you, me, or mamá.”
Pepa snorted. “Can you imagine mamá drinking that disgusting tea?”
“No, because she’s too old to need it,” Julieta replied patiently. “Focus, Pepa.”
“Sorry, sorry.” Pepa held up her hands in defeat. “So that just leaves us with…Isabela and Dolores?”
“Yes,” Julieta confirmed. “And it’s not Isa.” At Pepa’s surprised look, she elaborated, “I already asked her.”
“Right, because daughters never lie to their mothers.” Pepa rolled her eyes.
Julieta considered the point. “She was being honest. A mother can tell. But she was acting cagey. I think she knows who it is. And logically, that only leaves us with one option…”
“Dolores?” It was Pepa’s turn to cross her arms. “No, no, no, she would have told me.”
“Right, because daughters always tell their mothers everything,” Julieta echoed teasingly. “Just like you told mamá.”
Pepa deflated at the reminder. “I know mamá and I didn’t have the best relationship when I was younger, but that’s only because I didn’t feel like I could go to her with things like this. She was so rigid; she wouldn’t have understood. I always let my children know they can come to me, even in awkward situations. Especially in awkward situations,” she emphasized.
Julieta smiled sympathetically. Her spiel sounded very familiar.
Pepa kept going. “I never hid anything from them. I mean, they grew up with their papá and me, how could I? We’ve always been…affectionate.” She ran her fingers over her braid nervously. “They grew up knowing that was normal. When we gave Dolores and Camilo the talk, we were very thorough.”
“I’m sure you were,” Julieta reassured her, though inwardly she shuddered. She and Pepa had two very different ideas of “thorough”.
“Why wouldn’t she trust me?” Pepa asked quietly, shrinking into herself.
They’d reached the crux of the matter.
“Pepa,” Julieta took her hands in her own, “it’s not about trust. Of course Dolores trusts you. Maybe she needs some time. The herbs just went missing, so she can’t have taken them that long ago. It’s probably all very new for her. She just needs to process. Then I’m sure you’ll be the first person she tells.”
Her reassurances didn’t quell the storm clouds brewing above Pepa’s head. “Well I’m still hoping it was someone else.”
Julieta made a disbelieving noise. “You’d rather someone break into our house than your daughter keep a secret from you?”
“Yes,” Pepa sulked.
She clearly wasn’t thinking straight. “How about I make you some more tea and then you go read your book for a little while?” Julieta suggested.
Pepa offered her a wan smile. “I’d like that. I was just getting to the good part too.”
Julieta put the kettle on again and added some calming herbs to a new mug. Pepa didn’t need her help calming down quite as often anymore, but she needed it today. Understandably so; this was a big development. She’d have to check on Dolores later…
However, her plan was derailed by the chaos of the evening. From having to help prepare dinner, to finally getting to spend some time with her wonderful husband and daughters, she didn’t get a minute alone to go talk to Dolores. Fortunately, Isabela was able to grow the herbs, so after her girls went to bed, Julieta went downstairs to hang them up in the kitchen to dry.
Upon entering the kitchen, she found Dolores muttering to herself by the sink and shaking something that rustled into a mug. Before she could pour the water in, Julieta went over.
“Hola, sobrina.” She gestured towards the mug. “Do you need some help with that?”
Dolores squeaked, startling. She scattered the handful of herbs she was holding on the counter in shock. “Tía. I wasn’t expecting you here.”
“You didn’t hear me coming? Must have been very focused on that tea.” Julieta picked up a dried clump to examine it.
“I…uh…” Dolores replied eloquently. She looked like a deer caught in headlights. Squeaking once more, she turned her attention to picking up the scattered herbs and gathering them into a pile. She furrowed her brow in thought, then added another small handful to the mug. “Yeah, just making some tea.”
“Easy.” Julieta put her hand on Dolores’ wrist, stopping her. “You don’t want to add too much.”
Dolores looked at her resignedly. “You already know, don’t you?”
Julieta cracked a knowing smile. “What kind of tea you’re making? Sí, querida.”
Dolores sighed. “I should have known you’d figure it out.”
Julieta couldn’t stifle the laugh that bubbled up. “You took several months’ worth of herbs- depleting my stock, I might add.” She fixed her with a look. “You don’t need nearly as much as you think. You just need to let them steep for long enough.”
Dolores looked away guiltily. “Sorry, tía. I just wanted to make sure I’d have enough. I can’t risk anything bad happening.”
“I understand, Lola. But you don’t need to go about this by yourself. I’m here to help you. So is your mamá. We care about you and want to know what’s going on in your life.”
“You’re right,” she conceded. “I had a talk with mamá. It was…awkward, but I think it helped, overall.” She smiled faintly.
“Good. Your mamá only wants what’s best for you.”
“I know, tía, but…it felt strange talking about that part of my life with her. I’m an adult now. I don’t really want my mamá to know about it.”
“I understand where you’re coming from. And you don’t have to tell her everything.” Pepa probably wouldn’t want to hear all of it, Julieta thought to herself. “But this is an important decision, and it means a lot to her to be involved in your life.”
“I guess…” Dolores shrugged noncommittally.
“But I just want to say, even though I’m not thrilled about you doing this behind my back, I am proud of you for being responsible and taking care of yourself.” Julieta gave her a smile to soften her stern words. “It shows a lot of maturity and strength.”
“Thanks, tía.” Dolores cleared her throat and waved towards the mug. “Okay, how do I make this?”
“Your mamá didn’t explain it to you?” Julieta was surprised.
“She did, but…” Dolores hesitated. “You’re the healer. I want to make sure I’m doing it right.”
Julieta’s eyes glimmered. “I don’t think you give her enough credit sometimes. You can trust her, you know. She knows how this works.”
Dolores assumed a doubtful expression. “Does she?”
Julieta surmised that Pepa hadn’t shared her own experiences with Dolores then. She wasn’t about to break that trust. “She, ah, grew up watching me use my gift,” Julieta improvised. “She picked up some knowledge over those years. Believe me, you can trust her.”
Dolores kept her eyes on the mug, not responding to her words. “Is this too much, then?” She chased the dried herbs around her mug with a spoon.
“Just a bit.” Julieta scooped some out. “There.” Then Julieta showed her how to brew the tea. “You want to let the water cool down a bit. If you scald the herbs, it lowers their potency.”
Dolores listened attentively. “Is there anything else I should know?”
“I think your mamá probably covered all of it. Pay attention to your cycle, drink your tea every day, and know that it can take up to a couple weeks to be fully effective, so be careful till then.” Her eyes locked on Dolores’ meaningfully. “Here.” She poured some water into the mug and stirred the herbs around. “Let that steep about ten minutes, then you can drink it.”
“Thank you, tía.” Dolores accepted the mug gratefully.
Julieta hugged her. “Remember, we’re here for you.”
“I know. Thank you.” Dolores peeled herself away, still looked slightly embarrassed.
“Hey, you don’t need to feel embarrassed, okay?” Julieta placed her hands on Dolores’ shoulders. “I’m sure your mamá already told you that.”
Dolores gave a small nod, holding her mug tightly to her chest. “Buenas noches, tía.” She scurried out of the room.
Julieta made herself some regular tea, watching her sobrina run up the stairs. They grew up so fast. “Buenas noches, Dolores.”

(You) made my storms turn sunny
Tumblr media Tumblr media
@ellimagayon Sorry for responding so late, but I had some stuff I was busy with in personal life. So here is modern age Pepa and Felix fic, where Pepa is trying her hand at online dating until ...
Sunny Storms: Tormentas Soleadas
☀️⛈☀️⛈
Pepa anxiously chewed her hair.
She would have been running her hands through it, but they were busy thumbing through her phone, picture after picture sliding across the screen.
“Are you still looking at that thing?” Julieta sighed.
“Still?” Her hermanito Bruno, scoffed. He was playing with his pet rat on the floor of his room, where Pepa was currently lounging upside-down on his bed. “At this rate, she’ll be scrolling through that thing when she’s 50.”
“Cállate,” Julieta smacked him over the head, which Pepa would have gladly done if she wasnt so consumed by what she was doing.
Her older sister snatched the phone from Pepa, who immediately snapped to attention. “Hey! Give me that!” She reached for the phone, a crazed addictive mess as her sister ducked under her arm.
“No! You’ve been on your phone for hours, Pepa! What is going on?” She waved the phone in front of Pepa, tauntingly holding it from her grasp.
Pepa dove for it, no doubt looking like a madwoman and there was a short scuffle where at the end Julieta emerged victorious.
Pepa buried her face in her brother’s pillows, kicking her feet in a way that might resemble a temper tantrum.
“Ay,” Bruno mock-sighed. “Washed up at 25, and all because of online dating. So tragic.”
“Pepa, why are you stressing out about this? You usually love going on dates.” Her much kinder sibling asked.
“Sí, in person!” Pepa burst out. “But if I’ve never seen this person? If I don’t even know what they’re like? What if something goes wrong? What if they’re a psycho? What if — ?” Sitting up, she quickly began running her hands through her braid, muttering her mantra of “clear skies”.
Julieta rubbed her back motherly. “What even possessed you to sign up for online dating?” She asked. “You always take pride in being able to get un hombre on your own. What changed?”
Pepa stopped running her hands through her braid, back stiffening. Julieta seemed to sense the answer from Pepa’s body language alone.
“It was Mamá, wasn’t it?”
Julieta dropped her hand, and even Bruno seemed to pay attention to the conversation.
Pepa bit her lip. “She wants me to get married.” She confessed.
Bruno dropped his rat.
“I’ve never been able to hold down a relationship, no matter how much I wanted to,” Pepa confessed. “I've always wanted to get married, to have kids, but I always wanted to take my time."
"Pepa, all of us are taking our time. Bruno and I aren't getting married anytime soon."
"Yes, but you're able to be with someone who isn't fed up with you!" Pepa snapped.
Julieta flinched, and Pepa instantly regretted it. She had long accepted that she couldn't be Señorita Perfecta, embraced it really, but it still stung to know that she couldn't measure up to her hermana.
Pepa fingered her braid. "Agustín loves you," she said quietly, and Julieta turned red. "I know you've been together for a couple of months, but everyone can tell you're gonna get married."
"But no one wants to be with me because I'm ..."
Moody.
Emotional.
Volatile.
Too ... Pepa.
“And I heard Mamá talking with Señora Guzmán, and I realized … I want to get married. I want to meet someone who isn't fed up with me. Who can handle my emotions. And all the hombres I meet in person are only attracted to my appearence first, and then get scared off by commitment or my moods. So …”
“Oh, Pepa,” Julieta sighed and wrapped her arm around her sister. “You should have told us. We could have helped you.”
Bruno joined them on the bed and stole the phone from Julieta. “Besides, you have nothing to worry about. You already have a ton of requests on your profile.” He began scrolling through her phone before he suddenly froze. “Uhh …”
“¿Qué?” Julieta notices her brother’s expression.
“Um, I was just scrolling through her requests before I accidentally …” he trailed off and showed his sisters the phone.
There, on the bright screen, was read “Date Accepted!”
Pepa’s screech echoed throughout Casita.
☀️⛈☀️⛈
Pepa coached herself through the breathing exercises her sister taught her as she sat at the fancy dinner table, waiting for her … date.
After the … unfortunate incident in Casita, Julieta had right away set to making sure Pepa was perfect for her date — fixing her hair, putting on earrings, and pulling out her best dress. All the while, Pepa had been glaring at her younger brother, thunder in her eyes.
**************
“Huh, this guy seems pretty nice,” Bruno commented as he texted back and forth with Pepa’s date.
“Maybe you should go out with him then,” Pepa muttered. She had come so close to mauling Bruno, having dove at her hermano to claw his eyes out with her nails. She was, unfortunately, held back by Julieta.
“Nuh-uh,” Bruno shook his head, an odd smile on his face and look in his eyes. “I think this is the one for you, Pepa. I can feel it.”
**************
“Hola … Señorita Madrigal?” A smooth voice broke through her thoughts. Pepa instantly straightened, anxiety and anticipation curling in her stomach.
“Sí,” She responded, standing up and looking at the man who was her date for the evening.
“Ay Dios Mio.” Was her first thought. This man was handsome. A couple inches shorter than her, but very broad and muscular, with dark skin and darker eyes that seemed to swallow her. He had a dress shirt that was unbuttoned at the collar and slacks. But what really caught her attention was his smile. It was so bright and genuine, that Pepa instantly felt her initial anxieties float away as she found herself grinning back.
The man seemed just as taken with her as she was, and she smugly thanked Julieta as she held out her hand. “Pepa Madrigal.”
He seemed to snap out of it, taking her hand and kissing it. “Felix Castillo.”
Pepa blinked, then quickly grew flustered as her hand tingled where Felix had placed his lips. “Nice to meet you,” she said.
“Ready to eat?” Felix smiled. “I don't know about you, but I'm starving!”
Pepa laughed.
☀️⛈☀️⛈
The date went better than Pepa expected.
Or maybe it wasn’t the date itself, but … Felix.
She and Felix bounced off each other so well, it was like they had known each other their whole life. He was charismatic, funny, cheerful, and Pepa would be lying if she said she didn’t want more. He made her laugh with jokes and she had made him have tears in his eyes when she told him the story of how this date came to be.
**************
“So that was really you’re brother I was texting?” he laughed. “And I thought we were getting along so well! Maybe I went on a date with the wrong triplet!”
“Sorry he catfished you with this face!” Pepa pointed to herself with a smirk and took a long sip of wine. “But it looks like you're stuck with me for the evening.”
Felix beamed, his smile softening for a moment. “I don’t mind that in the slightest.”
**************
“Hey, are you not hungry?” Felix asked as he took a break from eating his food.
“Huh?” Pepa looked down and saw that she had eaten only half of her plate, while Felix had already polished off his second. “Oh, lo siento. I have a bit of a nervous stomach.”
Felix’s eyes widened. “Oh! Lo siento, I didn’t know. Otherwise I would have suggested a different date.”
Pepa waved him off. “It’s fine, I’m pretty much full.”
Felix’s eyes sparked, and he quickly stood up, holding out his hand. “I have an idea. Want to get out of here?”
Pepa blinked, eyeing his hand with curious amusement. “What do you have in mind?”
Felix smiled, gentle and bright, happy and kind — and asked, “Quieres bailar conmigo?”
That was the moment when Pepa knew she was done for.

Modern au
Pepa and Felix are a world famous competitive (ballroom) dance pair. They are known for switching the lead and for simply not looking like a standard couple ( the woman being taller than the man). They are absolutely feature dancers.
They own a dance studio.
Their children are absolutely are at the professional dance level but their parents would never force thier passions on to their children.
Dolores is a professional singer.
Camilo wants to be a (comedic) performer.
Antonio is a child. He does child things.
Pepa and Felix are also musicians and performers. They mostly want to be together and focus on their family and studio.
That's the warm family for now. Let me know if you want to know more :)

ENCANTO MODERN AU/SCHOOL HEAD CANON SHLOP
Note: They don’t have powers in this AU, the government would be on their asses.
•I feel this is a given but Isa is a straight A student who has incredibly high SAT and ACT scores, and also got a 5 on the AP exam. She goes to Harvard.
•Dolores is an mostly A’s sometimes B student who did decently on the ACT and SAT. She goes to a local college and studies Economics.
•Lusia is a senior in highschool with an excellent performance rate, she isn’t the top of classes but she does work hard and get good grades.
•Camilo is an alright student. He gets A’s, B’s, and sometimes C’s once a term but usually makes up and gets a higher grade next term. He is yet to take any ACT or SAT exams but he is terrified out of his mind because test taking is a weakness. Pray for him.
•Mirabel- oh poor girl get ready for this. In elementary, Mirabel had to take required tutoring classes for Math and English and was far behind other students. Her siblings and cousin (Camilo did well in school but not enough to get involved in gifted programs which kinda pissed abuela off but we’ll get back to that later) by the time she was in middle, she struggled. Abuela began to realize that there’s a good chance she has a learning disability and was livid out of her mind.
•Mirabel tried to take AP classes, but they were out of her league. She instead took Honors classes, which she did well in but Abuela was upset she couldn’t involve herself in AP like the rest of her family. Despite improving and getting better, Abuela was angered Mirabel wasn’t “challenging herself,” when in reality those AP classes would hurt her GPA from not doing well in them (she learned that freshmen year, got D’s all terms and grounded for nearly a year)
•Mirabel was kinda the family outcast for her poor performance in school. It seemed no matter how hard she tried, she just couldn’t catch up with the others kids in a timely manner.
•Anytime Isa visited from Harvard, she’d poke fun at Mirabel for her poor academic performance.
•Although the only reason she acts as such is because Havard is kicking her ass and maybbbeeee she is kinda falling behind SHHHHHHH don’t tell as
•Dolores and Mirabel are close, and Dolores will go out of her way to tutor Mirabel
•Camilo and Mira are also close but he cannot tutor her kid just regurgitates shit in class and forgets it after the year ends.
•Camilo REALLY wants to major in the arts or at least get an undergrad, but his mother and Abuela want him to major in Business and get a job in product managing despite his mediocre performance in school.
•If one of Luisa’s grades drop below an A she cries herself to sleep
•Since Abuela didn’t have the opportunity to attend school as a child, she wants her grandchildren to do well, but they also serve as an example of the Madrigal family. If any kid in the family every flunked out they’d be kicked out no doubt about it.
•Pepa and Julieta were excellent students, but Bruno struggled in school and after awhile got kicked out of the house because of his lack perfomace. Pepa and Julieta tried to find him. But he was gone.
•With that said if Abuela ever tried to kick Mirabel out Julieta would promptly pull out a knife.
•Camilo is always worried his grades will drop since he’s gotten C’s on occasions. Despite popular belief Camilo can stress easily and will become notably thinner from lacking appetite.
•Camilo takes AP classes not the exams. He doesn’t think he can accomplish such a feat. This is why he is so worried for the ACT and SAT exams. He doesn’t think he can handle testing and he’ll be kicked out of the family for failing.
•In short: grades are kinda a big deal in the Madrigal house. It would SUCK if someone’s academic performance dropped and they got banished!!! Ahahaha wonder who that could be!!!!

Any current encanto thoughts/AUs/headcanons? :D

I'm still thinking about the modern au (or prisoner!Bruno au) and how the Madrigals would react when he finally gets released. I've been wanting to write a fic about this for the longest time but idk how wanted or relevant it might be, haha.
I'd imagine it would be Agustín and Félix who would come pick him up from prison, bc, let's be real, no one would be safe with Pepa in the car, especially not before such an emotional moment. Not to mention Pepa would blame herself for what she did in my one-shot where she visits Bruno for the last time.
It's Félix who drives Bruno back home, while Agustín watches over him from the backseat, trying his best to make some lighthearted conversation. But it all turns awkward very quickly since Félix and Agustín can't just brush over what the years of confinement have done to Bruno. They can't just gloss over his drained face, wan gaze and his old clothes that have been out of style for over ten years.
On the other side there's Bruno, whose pulse is rising to his throat as he feels two sets of eyes on him, otherwise so used to being written off as unimportant. He can't get over the looks of thinly-disguised concern on their faces, because how would that connect to his family abandoning him?
He knows he messed up. He knows his family did the right thing when they stopped visiting him.
He knows he deserved it.
So, why is he going back home?
Don't they realize how much of a danger he is to everyone? How much of a burden?
He can't do this to his loved ones.

Did the adults find out what Camilo did in the modern AU? Why didn’t Luisa or Mirabel just tell them instead?
For context, the triplets all split up in this AU - they don’t live together anymore, due to a huge falling out. Bruno isn’t even in Colombia anymore; Julieta and Pepa live in different (neighbouring) cities in Colombia, resulting in their children attending the same school. Alma also lives separately but close to Julieta. The only grandkids who know they are related is Isabela and Dolores, the others were too young or not born prior the split; Pepa and Julieta took their husbands names.
Unsurprisingly, Camilo never told his parents he’s been picking on some random girl in the year below him. And as the school didn’t do anything either, Pepa and Félix are completely unaware. Though they’ve probably heard him talking about Mirabel, but as the split happened before Mirabel’s birth they wouldn’t make the connection.
Mirabel is very in-denial and never openly talks about her life, so her parents are also oblivious to what’s going on. Luisa only knows by coming home for a surprise visit and catching Mirabel reaching for the first aid box. When Luisa tries to tell them if they’ve noticed any new injury, they brush it off as Mirabel is just as accident-prone as Agustín. If they weren’t working so much, they’d know Mirabel is the most careful of the three and find these injuries very suspicious.

Spirit Halloween Manager: So, why do you want to work at this seasonal Halloween Store?
Camilo: My dad said if I don't get a job, he'll kick me out of the house.
Pepa: Oh, wow! A job interview! Sorry, I'm just so excited. I haven't worked since 1992 and I have so much free time now that the kids are grown up and don't need me anymore.
Bruno: I was fired from thirty retail jobs in the last four years. They all said I was rude to the customers.
Manager: ...do you know why they would say that?
Bruno: Because I was rude to the customers, idiot!
