Enough depressurized blobfish. I'm here to spread living blobfish propaganda.
Look at them. Gorgeous. Wonderful. Living comfortably at depths to over 1,200 meters in the ocean. Be nice to them.

My hot take is that finding blobfish that have been brought on land "cute" is gross and weird. If you actually love blobfish, you should love the fish and not pictures of its bloated, depressurized corpse.
Look at this lad thriving in the depths. Let him be happy.

Uncharismatic Fact of the Day
The blobfish, or sculpins, have a lot of adaptations to help them survive at the bottom of the ocean; most notable is the lack of a swim bladder-- an air-filled sack that other fish use to help them swim. Instead, sculpins have a jelly-like layer of fat underneath their skin which makes them slightly less dense than the water around them and allows them to bob along the ocean floor with minimal effort. Turns out being fat and lazy has its advantages!

Daily fish fact #498
Smooth-head blobfish!
They live so deep down, between 600 and 1 200 meters deep (2 000 and 3 900 feet), that having a gas-filled swim bladder like other fish wouldn't be very effective. To maintain buoyancy, blobfish instead have a large portion of their flesh consist of a gelatinous substance that is only slightly less dense than water! This allows them to float and swim just above the seafloor with ease.
