Convention
I've been trying to get my head around
this world I live in
and my latest thought is this
I want to be around people who have agreed upon a sense of convention. That when they break with it. I can call them out on it and vice verse. Our world needs to put on our big boy, girl pants and admit that we can't do whatever we want. That we are not alone, that we are responsible to and for each other.

Experimenting with Storytelling Forms: Writing Flash Nonfiction
Experimenting with Storytelling Forms: Writing Flash Nonfiction
Are you a predominantly nonfiction prose writer who looks longingly at poetry like you wish you could do that? Or maybe you’re a poet who looks longingly at nonfiction writing. If either sounds like you, this flash nonfiction class is for you! I consider flash writing forms as cousins to poetry because they share the same mandate as poetry—brevity and distillation. Like poetry, every word…

How do cards gain meaning in an occult sense? Like, both tarot and french-suited playing cards started as game pieces, but they have gained an understood meaning. Is it just someone whips up an organized table of connected ideas or is each card interpreted from a certain framework?
Oh good question!
Many things that we now consider staples of western magic are ideas that have been added to over generations by several layers of thinkers. Tarot Divination specifically is an excellent example of this!
In 1770, A french printmaker and occultist going by Etteilla published a book about how to do cartomancy with a 32-card Piquet deck. He writes down some simple but strict associations for the cards, and makes what is probably the first mention of reversals in carotmancy. He said that he learned the system "from an Italian." Now, its unclear how much of the system is his own invention, people have been doing cartomancy for as long as there's been cards, but the text presents a larval, bare-bones version of the cartomancy methods we know and love today.
Its 1780-ish. The Rosetta stone hasn't been discovered yet. Occult-inclined Europeans are obsessed with Egypt. That's where our boy Trismegistus is from! There's a concept in Egyptian mythology called The Book of Thoth, a mythical book of spells penned by the God of Knowledge himself. This was the Holy Grail for European Occult Egpytaboos.
In 1781, Antoine Court de Gébelin claimed that Tarot cards were the "original book of Thoth," Saying that Tarot cards had been used by ancient Egyptian priests for their own magical ceremonies, and that their designs contained ancient mystical secrets. This is 100% not true, but he writes a pretty fun pseudohistory for Tarot that involves Romani people bringing the decks to Europe through the Levant where they then taught its esoteric secrets to several Popes.
Then in 1783, Ettellia responded with another book. Manière de se récréer avec le jeu de cartes nommées tarots ("Way to recreate yourself with the deck of cards called tarots") Where Ettellia basically claims "uhm actually I knew about tarot divination way before Court de Gebelin published that big ass book. But anyway here's an interpretation of Tarot symbology that includes multiple references to Egyptian, Zoroastrian, and Greek mythology." But the smartest thing he did was include spread methods that involved Thoth and Numerology. Napoleonic Occultists fucking loved Thoth and numerology.
In 1788, he formed a little magical society for the express purpose of discussing and workshopping ideas for Tarot divination. In 1789, he made a TRULY smart decision, and published a Tarot deck that was Specifically For Magic, and that basically cemented Tarots place in magical history.
Occultists just kept iterating! Someone would speculate "maybe the suits correspond to the elements" and people went "yeah, they correspond to the elements! That makes this tool even more fun and interesting to use!" Then people go "What if the suits and the elements also correspond to parts of the Self?" and people went "Sure they do! That makes this tool even more interesting!"
But its also not just one thread. Eventually you get the Golden Dawn saying "The Major Arcana correspond to the nodes and paths on our version of the Quabbalistic Sefirot, you know, the hermetic version with a Q." and some occultists responded "Idk about that! Love what you've done with the color symbology though!"
The development of magical ideas is an iterative process. It is people whipping up a table of correspondences, but that table needs a mythology to keep it together. Originally, the mythology that gave tarot "power" was its Egyptian pseudohistory, but these days its the fact that occultists have been iterating on and fine-tuning this system for hundreds of years.
Humans don't think in tables of information, they think in stories. The cool thing about stories is that they're flexible. If magic is anything, its learning how to engineer stories to make the tables of information more effective.
I'm gonna plug my patreon where I post all of my occult research if you wanna see more stuff like this

I want Fae!Dick to scare Deathstroke, or Jason using his "scary big brother privileges" 🥺
Omg literally can you imagine tho!?
Like, I don’t know much about Deathstroke, only that he’s apparently had a phase or two where he’s obsessed with Robin and making him his apprentice.
And Dick? Oh boy did Slade bite off more than he could chew with that particular sidekick.
Dick is amused.
When Slade tries to threaten him? Well, sure. Okay, he can play along. He’s got his gimmick with the titans right now and Bruce isn’t here to lecture him on morals. So, bring it, old man! And Slade? Totally convinced he scared the kid into submission? He’s in for a nasty surprise, because he was expecting an angry, terrified kid who was gonna fight him every step of the way. Someone he’d have fun breaking and molding into his version of a good soldier.
He’s not prepared for Dick “several rows of teeth” Grayson, for Robin “you should really work on leaving so many loopholes in your instructions” sidekick to Batman, for Richard “I am about to make you regret the day your mom and dad had their first kiss” Grayson-Wayne.
And Slade does. He regrets it so, so much. By day seven he’s ready to throw in the towel when he once again wakes up in the middle of a swamp with Robin splashing through the murky waters like it’s a day at the beach, animatedly talking to a something that looks like an alligator but has way too many eyes and feathers to be one.
“What? You only said not to move anywhere with trees again. We’re in a swamp!”
“This counts as the woods!”
“You said trees tho” :))))
“There ARE trees!!!!”
“They’re mangroves, jackass. God, read the room. They’re real sensitive about being called trees.”
(Slade will forever deny that he sheds a tear out of sheer relief when Batman comes to pick up his weird af kid)
And I’m afraid Jason would never actively have to invoke scary older brother privileges. It’s more of a “Dick, I know I complained about my maths teacher one (1) time, but please don’t have the deer eat her.”
Dick, who was totally about to tell the deer to eat her: “… Not even a nibble?” 🥺

Mad Thought: Psychiatry, Tell me the Truth
I find hypotheses about faulty neurotransmitters and genetic biochemistry and to be dreadfully uninteresting.  Psychiatry, tell me the truth.  I am waiting for you to say what I already know:  That help is so intertwined with harm.  That your pills can’t patch these wounds.  That my pain is undyingly political.

you ever think about season 2 brotzly....
every time todd is asked why is he here, why is he doing any of this, he diverts back to amanda — his love, his life, his reason to exist, his, to be frank, emotional contingency plan
"todd, why are you so hell-bent on-"
"no, farah, no! we won't give up! we'll find dirk, and with dirk we'll find amanda, and when i find amanda everything will be alright!"
"todd, why are you even here? why are you with me when it's so dangerous and horrible and i can't even promise you anything?"
"dirk, listen, i really wanna find amanda, and i have reasons to believe she is being kept in the parallel fairytale world to which you are the key"
but in the end? he chooses dirk.
and it's not like in s1, when amanda firmly pushed him away and had the kindness of her heart to say "cmon, that dude makes you a happier and better person, don't avoid him"
no, this time around she invited him to live with her — something he had seemingly been chasing all that time
but he just. shrugged. declined. nah, sis, but thanks. his place is by dirk. he knows that. dirk, on some level, knows that too. it's not spoken about, and i'm not even sure that todd has the guts to admit it, but it's something he knows. he no longer has the space to pretend that his beloved baby sister is the centerpiece of all this bullshit. in the end, he verbally, directly, openly chose dirk.
and it's not something that either of them will forget about.

for the @wolfstarmicrofic prompt:
faithless
He was on the floor again, a jutted up nail digging into his knee. Remus lay on the bed, fast asleep as Sirius’ wand knit together the skin on his stomach. Sirius cleaned the dried blood and placed a hand over the new scar, so like one of his own.
Faithless, his mother had snarled, backhanding him across the cheek. Faithless, his father had said, voice cold as he turned to walk away. Faithless, Regulus had breathed, clutching his left arm, sorrow in his eyes.
Sirius smiled. Well. If only they could see him now. Was this not faith?

"The Lemon"
If I had a standard, a banner there would be a lemon green-yellow on a field of black. It would wave its citrus rind with its divits and green leaf proudly. I was not born or live where the lemon trees grow nor do I make my money from their sale. The reason I would fly "the Lemon" is to speak of morning, the dawn and the capturing of a moment...the sun in a bright skin. I love lemons.

bokumiku isn't just about seto toshiki being gay again it's about how fragile and precious it is to be alive. it's about queer struggles. it's about learning from your mistakes and learning how to be able to move forward. it's about guilt and grief and forgiving not just others but yourself and it's about wanting to stay until the end credits are over! and it is also about seto toshiki getting railed within an inch of his life and i think that's beautiful

Warning: me bitching about the Star Wars Fandom and how it discusses Jedi stuff ahead…
The dismissive nastiness and occasional ableism that this fandom throws at people who don’t love everything about the Jedi Order is almost making me dislike them because every time I see a discussion or meta post, I brace for someone to shit on people with emotional regulation issues or make a really fucked up justification for what happened to the Clones or young children separated from their parents. Can this fandom please not ruin characters I enjoy today? I promise that heroes don’t have to be perfect for you to like them and I’m seeing people digging into some pretty big proverbial holes trying to make the Jedi appear flawless.
