What's going on with Four and Wild - LU update analysis

Ok so obviously Four and Wild are going through it. I'm gonna talk about that.

Starting with Wild. My boy. He's having such a bad time right now. All of them are, really. It started with his fight with Four

Wild is dealing with his past trauma from losing the champions, and being unable to save them

This comes up again when he's giving his speech to Twilight. He sees the "old Link" as a ghost along with the other champions. It isn't who he is anymore.

After he had his breakdown, though, he really got himself together. It was his inner strength and desire to help Twilight, for sure, but I also think we can't discount Four's contribution.

Wild realizes that Four is right. It isn't going to help Twilight if he's in the woods having a breakdown. AND IT IS A VERY VALID BREAKDOWN!!! As a viewer, it's completely understandable that, when faced with the potential death of his brother, best friend, and mentor figure, Wild's past loss and trauma is coming up and making it really hard for him to deal with the situation.

But from Wild's perspective, his feelings aren't productive to helping Twilight. So, Wild pushed his fear down and turns it into something that can help.

We've got to give Wild some credit here. Besides Hyrule, he's the only one who has been able to do something tangible to help. And that's not discounting the others, there just isn't anything else they could do. Because of Four's encouragement, Wild is able to come up with something he can do to help.

And then, he goes on to give Twilight the hope he needed to keep fighting.

Twilight needed that. Everyone needed some hope. Time awknowledges the importance of what Wild said at the end of the panel. He's thanking Wild for lightning the mood, and for giving the group hope, and for reminding Twilight what he's fighting for.

That's so important. He got to help.

That is probably not the end of Wild's trauma memories / breakdown. He's going to need to let those feelings out again at some point. But for now, he was able to help Twilight.

Four, however, isn't so lucky. He said all those things to Wild, and was able to help Wild, but Four doesn't know that. Four thinks he made the situation soooooo much worse.

Not only has Four not been able to help (in his mind), he also drove out one of their members (again, in his mind). This is very much not the case to us as viewers, but Four's stuck. As evidenced by his colors in that update, he is feeling very conflicted. He's SO worried about Twilight, and he wants so badly to be able to help. But he hasn't been able to.

Even after Wild comes back, Four is still stuck in his despair and his guilt.

And in the most recent update, he's the only one who doesn't smile

The others at this point are laughing at Twilight's joke, and feeling a spark of hope because Twilight is feeling well enough to make a joke (which I'm sure was Twilight's goal), but Four can't bring himself to smile. He's suffering so so much, but he doesn't believe his feelings have a place right now.

And he's holding Wild's sword in this panel, which I think is important. A lot of what Four's feeling right now is related to Wild. Obviously most of it is Twilight dying, but still. Four is holding Wild's broken sword, and saying that only Twilight matters right now. He's pushing down all his feelings and just trying to focus on helping Twilight.

And then Wild is able to make everyone feel better, but Four still feels like shit. He still thinks he pushed Wild over the edge. He's spent the last few updates fighting with Wild, Four, and Legend, and fighting withing himself.

At the very end, as Wild is walking away, Four is also in focus.

He's specifically watching Wild go. I hope we're going to get a conversation between Four and Wild soon, because they really need it. Four needs to realize that he did actually help Wild, and they both could stand to apologize for the fight, if only to make themselves and each other feel better.

The fight wasn't anyone's fault, really. They're both so young and have been through so much, and now they're watching their brother die and there's little to nothing they can do about it.

So in conclusion, Wild really stepped up, and someone needs to give Four a hug.

But isnt this a great card that showcases he's truly a "child of peace"?? The 3 good fairies spell on him was that he'll wake up on an era pf peace (and ofc when he meets someone that truly loves him), He is someone that carries "the face of Silver Owls (Knight of Dawn)" but his actions pays tribute to Briar Valley (to Malleus)

MIND YOU that this pose is almost exclusively to Malleus only yet they made Silver do it !! 😭😭JDJAJDJ And yk whats more profound about this pose is that in Silver's case.... his hand placed on the left side where the heart is KEJQKJRKWS !!!! Ohhh he's truly accepted that it can't be changed that hes from Silver Owls but he can always dedicate his actions to the ones that cares for him despite that (Lilia and I know Malleus as well (even if he finds out the truth(copium)💥💥💥)

Guys wait... I think I just figured out something very important about this panel.

Y'all remember how protective Twi is of his village kiddos?

Yeah, threatening Twi's village kids is like threatening Sky's Zelda. If you're smart, you don't. Because their respective Links will hunt you down and murder you in protective rage.

Now then... what, exactly, did Wild do, again?

Oh. That's right.

He hunted down Dink and tried to murder him in a protective rage.

And Twilight knows that.

Prior to all this, Twilight was more serious and stern with Wild, attempting to model Time, which Wild never jived with.

But now Twilight understands where Wild is coming from. Wild doesn't view Twilight as a mentor: he views Twilight as a friend.

As a brother. As family.

Wild has lost so much that he is murderously protective of anyone he has left. And now Twilight sees that. Viscerally, he understands what it means to go into a blind rage because that person you just hurt is mine and I will not allow it. He knows that because he's been there. And now, he knows that that's how Wild sees him.

And so now they can be brothers.

I feel that Hyrule looking at Legend as Four says that is important somehow... What do you think?

Well one thing I’ve noticed in the last couple of updates is Hyrule and Legend have been around each other A LOT

Practically ever since Hyrule finished healing Twilight and helping Four they’ve been hanging around each other. In close proximity too. Which, given that Legend usually only stands close to the people he trusts (principally Sky) is a big deal.

If Dawn pt. 5 is any indication, it seems that Hyrule is mostly initiating this lol

But Legend is letting him

Excuse me while I fangirl over the downfall duo for a moment. ALDNDLSDJSLDNSL THE BROTHERS EVER

Ahem ok let’s continue

Now, I’m overdue for a LU reread so correct me if I’m wrong BUT I seem to recall that they’ve never stayed this close to each other before. Could just be that they take comfort in one another’s presence. Seeing the panel you shared, though, I’m gonna say it’s more than that.

Idk if they’ve figured out their place in the timeline yet (I’m assuming not due to how everyone acted in Timeline Talk pt. 1). That doesn’t mean, however, that they haven’t begun to guess. Jojo has hinted at many interactions that the Links have had offscreen. Plus, Legend and Hyrule met up before they ran into the others. They’ve had time to get to know each other. I guarantee they’ve got suspicions about their places in time.

Which leads me to believe Hyrule is afraid of losing Legend. He must have figured out that Legend was a hero sometime before his journey began. Meaning, somewhere along the way he perished and the darkness he struggled so hard against spread over Hyrule anew. With Twilight just having escaped death (plus the cryptic comments he continues to make regarding Time’s fate), I’m sure untimely demises are on Hyrule’s mind.

I don’t think he knows Legend’s fate (unless there’s something in his games that hints toward the previous hero’s fate). But I believe he wants to. I can’t be the only one who sees the striking similarities between Legend and Time. He likely came to the realization that a guy like Legend will most likely die a wanderer or a warrior (doesn’t mean he did. I don’t like to think he did. One blorbo with a tragic end is enough XD But still). And being a hero and Legend’s friend he’s wondering if maybe, just maybe he can change that.

If it’s possible to know a future occurrence, it could be possible to transform it, right?

LU Update! So welcome back to the analysis corner with me!

We have another LU update! Called Moving forward we see the heroes leave the town and make their way to the location that Sky found. With learning a little more about the team as a whole.

With 10 pages there's a lot of information to work through so I hope you are sitting comfortably

As always Linked universe (LU) belongs to @linkeduniverse and Jojo, I own none of the pictures I'm using and please give the original post some love. It's very well done and I love this comic so much.

Now sit back, grab some water and snacks and let's do this!

So before we get started im just gonna say that the brain cell is pinging around this lot so much that I'm bound to miss some stuff. But I shall try my best to get everything I wanna say said.

It was only some of you, captain, dont forget that.

Okay I'll behave this time

I can understand the concern from the captain, as a captain from the army during a time of war secrets are dangerous. He's probably thinking if Twilight has concealed this what else has he concealed.

And then we get snarky wars again

I missed the snarky captain, he's wonderful.

Also the line about double duty, Come on captain, you know full well that patrol is an important part of a group dynamic like this.

This also confirms that the group have had encounters with monsters outside of what we've seen. As the line from wars about missing fights implies that they've fought a bunch of stuff. But we've only really seen wolfie in a fight back in the sunset arc.

Twilight fondly mentioning Midna, I'm so proud of him.

These two are the goddamn brothers ever and I love them dearly. Also, the knowledge we are about to be given about how this works is very exciting.

Twilight thinking Wild had more than two brain cells. I love him. And the hug? The hug gives me life.

Also the captain, the captain is a point to talk about here. This feels like an accusatory sentence. The "You dont say?"

Me trying to figure out how time travel works in LU.

Legend, why are you so grumpy about this? Like he looks angry to hear this.

Four thinking about the implications of this sentence. I can literally hear the brain cell bouncing as it pings from hero to hero as they try to figure out this time travel thing.

Wind is a small bean as well look at him. The youngest I love the eyes.

Ahh, so thats the explanation. A spirit wolf that helped guide him on his journey which he trusted so much that he thought that the wolf he saw here was just another spirit until twi changed in front of him.

But this line from him is so sad. "Right after my resurrection" and "we both would have known the grave." This feels like as a person wild is at peace with it but doesn't want others to have to go through what he did. He's a chill dude and i love him for that to be honest.

Meanwhile, my blorbo Sky is out here trying to get actual work done. This is 10/10 the sksw dousing experience if you've not played it. You just swing the sword around while it pings at you until you eventually find what you are looking for.

Fi is trying her best.

Lads all of you need to remember that not all of you have had things that perform transformation magic. Im surprised (But also not surprised) That Time doesn't have anything to say about this. Like my man has used a tone of different transformation masks that change him into various different things and has one that turns him into a god.

The magic users ganging up on the non-magic users, like please behave.

Ahh Time, Time is the disappointed old man that has to coral a bunch of kids. And Wild is like the most kid of them all. (Tell me why I'd love to know! :D) (Which makes sense if we take LU to be at most a few months after the end of his game. Wild would be 18 at most.)

the sort of conversation you dont want to involve yourself in Time trust me on this one.

JUST SOME GUY WILD JUST DESTROYED TWILIGHT OKAY RIP

Feels bad for twi man he earned that title and to have it reduced to just some guy.

Wild is gonna get told off by Time if he ain't careful, that's his blood descendant right there and we all know he has a soft spot for him.

This is important, because I'm pretty sure most of them did at one point.

Another thing that appears to be a constant amongst the team is the need to conceal an identity. Either from them or them to others.

I'm not versed in all of their games so I can't go into full details but these guys ain't the only ones. Pretty much all of them have. The spirit of courage does love secrets, doesn't it?

Now this depends on what exactly Sky was dousing, was he dousing the portal, the helmet outside the portal? The postman even?

My money is on the helmet outside the portal, so that Dink came back into this timeline to retrieve it before leaving. But I may be incorrect on that account because Fi is able to track people as well as objects (Sksw would often have you tracking Zelda directly)

OHHHH

I was wondering how they were going to do it. But with Twilight able to track it they'll be able to use a combination of dousing and him sniffing out Dink's scent to be able to find him no matter where he might be.

It's so distinct, twilight you know by saying that you're gonna have some of these guys asking questions. Just wait for the next campfire story time it's gonna come up.

I can see Wind and Twilight having a conversation like this.

"What does Dink smell like?" "What?" "You heard me."

Oh he's so excited look at him!

Oh four.

I wonder if we are gonna have a four and Twilight conversation about this, with four's past he's understandably worried about the use of dark magic in one of his friends.

Oh come on legend lighten up, the child has never seen something like this before.

I'm glad Hyrule is coming in for his defence and all but 5 minutes ago Hyrule you were with Legend and saying to Wild that there's a load of items that do it.

Why is wind just so wonderful?

Look at him go!

Thats gotta be Wind, He's been so excited about this I can't see it being anyone else.

Wolfie beloved.

Im here for more brotherly content from the team, they are wonderful.

Now lets go find us a Lizard, or iron knuckle or whatever he transforms into next.

Dawn part 4 analysis, here we go! At it again with my ramblings.

Starting off with THE GLORIOUS RETURN OF THE MAILMAN! The moment I saw the flag I was like :O HE’S BACK!!!

(I also got the blue’s clues mail song stuck in my head)

Hey look, it’s Warriors’ money! And the inkeeper who’s happily admiring the ridiculous amount of rupees Warriors now does not own!

Rip Warriors’ money. It will be dearly missed.

Also no vacancy?? I mean, it’s possible there’s other people staying there, or it’s just a small inn, but... it kinda looks like Warriors literally bought every available room there was. Mad lad.

I (like everybody else lol) took a crack at figuring out who’s signature was who’s, based on their respective game’s Hylian texts/scripts, order of when they got there, and the OG tags on the comic. So here’s my best guesses—

1. Time is first, which makes sense based on him being the one to take Twilight to the inn

2. Hyrule appears to be next— his games don’t have a written script, but the hylian here is close to Legend’s, so I’m assuming it’s his, based on the fact that he was part of the next group to get to the inn.

3. Four is who I’m least sure about I’ll admit, but seeing as how he came with Hyrule, (and he’s the only Link left I couldn’t identify at all), I’m assuming it’s his.

4. Warriors we know for sure, since the tags say this signature is his. He gets a shout out for being the only Link who can actually write in the lines.

5. Wind seems to be next, as his hylian is very close to what’s here (his signature partially obscures Warriors’ XD)

6. Legend is who I’m going with for this one, but I’ll admit it could be Wild’s since their script is pretty darn close. But once again, based on when they all got to the inn, Legend would make the most sense to be here.

7. Sky is definitely here. His hylian is very unique compared to the others (I think it’s my favorite)

8. Wild is probably next, but same case as Legend, they could be swapped. But once again, probably not, since Wild was the last to get inside.

9. Twilight bringing up the rear! His hylian is unmistakable, and it makes sense that he’d mark his name last. I don’t think he could handle it until he woke up that morning, though I do wonder which arm he wrote it with...

(Rip Mr. Mailman in trying to figure all this out)

Moving on!

It’s gotta be close to mid-morning by now based on the light, but Sky obviously does not handle waking up at dawn well. It’ll be interesting to see if he stays sleepy during the rest of this arc, or if he'll wake up a bit.

(Side note, Sky looks so soft and fluffy here, I want to hug him)

Sky is so relatable in this update, he’s got some serious “I have no idea what’s going on” vibes. That first one he's got such a deer in the headlights look XD

The mailman is just like “you! I’ve been looking for you! Great to see you!” and Sky’s just “I have never met this man in my life” (probably forgot he actually did see him once (because he’s sleepy))

Four letters, all different languages and dialects... I’m guessing at least one Zelda based on the seal on that blue letter (it seems fancier to me), but I don��t know about the rest. I would guess Malon for one, and maybe another Zelda? Warriors or Wild or Four’s Zelda maybe? Maybe Twilight got a letter from someone in Ordon, or the Resistance!

Only thing I do know is that there’s probably not one for Sky, since he wasn’t immediately like “letter for me! :D”

Four trying to do something nice and fix Wild’s sword and this guy just laughs at him, rude 😤 At least he didn’t make a short joke, which was honestly what I was expecting. I mean I get knowing that your equipment won’t be enough for the job, but sheesh.

(Also the blacksmith’s goggles look a bit like Gondo’s in skyward sword’s, plus the ones the rescue knights wear, thought that was interesting).

I love this panel!! They all decided to follow Four and help him out just like they did last time, fix the sword and get Wild a good, reliable weapon.

I’ve also never noticed how similar these guy’s hair looks before, especially Warriors and Hyrule’s— if Rulie’s hair was a little shorter and blonde, it would be pretty near identical. Very interesting...

(Plus Wind has the funniest expression, he's so cute)

We interrupt this rambly analysis to bring you a brief moment of me yelling about Warriors' smile ABHDGFSFKHSBBG LOOK AT HIM that stupid cocky grin and the way he's rolling up his sleeve I'm *swoon*

Four absolutely losing it over Warriors’ jab about teamwork is SO funny, Captain you have no idea how good your joke was. (also Four, bud, you good? Little hysterical there pal)

Also he looks so happy!!! Compare that to any of the faces he was making the night before, he's doing so much better. I’m so glad he’s happy and smiling now, even if it was just at a dumb joke :)

I don’t even have anything to say about this panel. Just look at it. Glorious.

And one last thing...

MULTILINGUAL WARRIORS HOLY CROW that's such a cool trait to give him, I am in love with it now that's awesome.

there was an update you know the drill. time to go nuts with each pannel.

I LOVE HOW IN THE FIRST PAGE WE DIRECTLY GET HIT WITH SO MANY EMOTIONS FROM EVERY ONE OF THE BOYS.

Wild with the realisation that he didnt finish this all, not yet. Theres still danger, the same thing that almost killed his brother is still breathing and can if it wants to do the same with the rest of his newfound family

Twilight i feel like is almost the same as Wild, but for other reasons. The Shadow almost took his life, and after he thought that it was finally dead, boom. That thing is still out there and maybe is gonna be around for some more time.

He wants to believe that theres something else also opening the gates, that the Shadow is really dead and it's just another weird monster who opened the one that Sky saw

Hyrule confirms it, and reminds Twi that no, the damn thing is still out there and will go in a hunting game with each one of them.

Wild realised his mistake, he didn't kill it, he destroyed it's defenses. What if he stayed and searched for every piece of the Shadow and destroy it? They will be having this same conversation? He hopes to at least for it to happend in another time

Wind got a point here, if youre not sure of all it's tricks it looked like it was finally dead. Wild and any of them would have never guessed if it was the end or not. Not even Time

side note but

Wild looks so sad here, no not sad. Guilty is the word. He feels like he failed, again. If he thought more what to do maybe his brothers will not be in danger

OKAY I WANT TO STOP IN HERE FOR JUST A SEC.

I know it is maybe something without importance, but the fact that Four is the one who we are focused, how he looks like he's carefull listening Wild's words of auto-inflicted guilt. He looks like hes thinking the statement carefully, Wild didn't failed shit, it wasnt his faoult that they were trapped in this whole mess across time, and Four knows it.

We are stopping being serious for a moment just to admire this. theyre confused. thinking. out of context even. idk. i love this specific pannel. theyre such a mood.

we need to stop a second more because goddamn it this pannel slaps

The representation of Time being surronded by the choice of help his descendant or kill the thing that hurted him in the first place, he's just a man who got throught a lot, and even after all thta he's still trapped in this choosing what to do (both options will have consquences) thing

and here we got more of Wars being the traditional paramedic of the group! I remember a person saying that yeah Hyrule can heal people with magic, but Warriors participated in a war, so he knows basic treathening and i think thats so perfect and true for his character

Time is directly watching his descendant, and Twilight knows well why. He doesn't blames him, he knows that he scared them all to death. He doesn't want to go throught that with one of them too

this confirms that Sky can sense what makes Fi react, he can feel when she's upset with something, maybe he felt the anger when Twi got hurt, her fury whne she couldn't defend him. That's her duty right? Protect and serve her masters

i find it interesting that Sky's dowsing ability isn't working right in the update cause in game the dowsing ability also has its limitations like where you go can cause the ability not to work. And with Sky not being able to sense the portal with the master sword anymore it's interesting as the gang moves forward if the dowsing ability comes back. Plus why isn't it working now, it was before? could it be where they are heading or where they are at now or something else???

Legend looks so fucking sad in these panels like. He doesn’t even have the time or energy to put up his snarky front because he’s too busy being worried about twi which is interesting to me because the reason why he’s so snarky In the first place is because he’s scared of getting attached to people/people getting attached to him and then them dying because of him.

It’s the fact that it doesn’t work. That all of his time spent pushing everyone away ultimately means nothing because he cares about everyone so fucking much that he would put his own feelings and potential to be hurt away just to keep them safe.

God I love how good Jojo is at characterizing everyone with just a few panels and lines of dialogue.

Warriors 💞💞💞💞 - LU Update Analysis - Warriors Throughout the Sunset Arc

First of all, I must reiterate, I love his wave SO much

It's a nice little comedic break in between Time being so so so sad. And it's in response to a really heartfelt conversation and a genuine compliment from Time, and Wars just 👋

It is everything to me.

Ahem, anyway, Wars has been stepping up these last few updates. Going all the way back to the beginning of the sunset arc, Warriors was sitting with Twilight while Time and Sky are trying to figure out the deal with the fairy not working / the monster's weapon.

I usually think of Wars as the planner of the group, but he's more of a battle strategist, so it makes sense he's not part of that conversation. Instead, he's trying to make sure Twilight is okay emotionally and isn't thinking too much about what's going on

He remembers little facts Twilight has told the group about his life, and brings those up when Twilight brushes off his first attempt.

And he's smiling, and he's joking, and I'm absolutely sure it's a front. He's got to be worried out of his mind, but he's putting on a smile and a brave face for Twilight's sake.

After Time and Twilight head to the village, Warriors is stuck with the job of wrangling the other heroes and letting them know what happened. That's got to suck, we can tell by the way he looks SO sad

Very stark contrast to the way he was smiling for Twilight.

He then leads the rest of the heroes, minus Wild (who has his own stuff going on), back to the inn. First thing we see is Wars dropping his entire wallet for the innkeeper to not "worry about it" XD

That's not a small amount of rupees, either, judging by the look on the innkeeper's face. But Wars doesn't even blink, because his mind is too preoccupied on Twilight and keeping the rest of the group in check.

Next, Wind, Legend, and Four are yelling in the lobby. Which, side note, we have confirmation that the whole place could in fact hear them XD

And Wars comes in and puts that situation to a stop. He definitely slips into Captain Mode ™ here

His reaction is very different from Sky's here, too. Sky looks really concerned, but Warriors looks mad. I think that's a good panel showcasing the difference in their personalities and their strengths within the group. Throughout the sunset arc specifically, Sky is the one trying to emotionally hold the group together, and Warriors has stepped up into the leadership position with Time out of commission focusing on Twilight. Warriors has got to be a little tougher, because he needs to physically keep the group together.

I assume this next piece of dialogue comes from Warriors

Here he is physically keeping track of everyone. As long as they're here and together and safe, they can deal with the emotional fallout later.

When the heroes are all gathered around Twilight and Twi implies he's basically giving up, Warriors' expression is starkly different from the others

They're all wide-eyed, surprised, and completely crushed, like they can't fathom the idea of Twilight giving up, or dying at all. But Wars, he doesn't look surprised. He just looks so, so tired.

They've all dealt with loss, but Warriors is the only one who was a soldier. The amount of death Warriors has seen and caused most likely surpasses the others. He's seen his brothers in arms fall countless times. He's not surprised, he's just tired of the loss.

Twilight's decision to fight probably affects Warriors the least. He's seen too many of his fellow soldiers fall, and he has the experience of being overconfident and paying for it, so he knows hopeful spirits can only go so far.

But, just like before, he puts on a smile and tries to make jokes to keep Twilight and the others happy.

This specific quote hurts. Twilight is his brother. Not just his brother-in-arms, but his brother. This quote is peak sibling behavior.

Now, onto the latest update. Warriors is still trying to take care of absolutely everybody.

I love the confirmation that they call each other "Link" when one of them is out of it. That's a headcannon I had already adopted <3.

Here Wars is, trying to make sure Time is okay and is getting any rest at all. Which, of course, he is not. He is most definitely not fine.

But that's more of an emotional issue, a little outside of Warriors' comfort zone. That's more of Sky's territory, or Twilight's really, so Warriors isn't going to push while tensions are so high and there's so much else going on.

So Warriors does what he can, and he makes sure Time doesn't have to worry about anything but Twilight.

Time is so overwhelmed and anguished, watching his descendant slowly dying with nothing he can do about it, so this support means a lot to him.

Once Time tells Wars what he needs, and it's something Wars is confident in doing, he does offer Time some emotional support, too. Warriors specifically turns away before he does so though, because this isn't his strong suit, but he knows Time needs it.

To him, Twilight is the best guy. That's his brother, his fellow soldier and hero, and one of his closest friends. And, according to that first panel, Warriors doesn't have any other living family at all. The chain is all he's got.

Don't forget, Warriors, family is more than blood. This is your family too. Even the innkeeper could see it

A (Semi) Short Explanation of How Death Works in Kingdom Hearts for the LU Fandom Because It Just Might Maybe Possibly Have Something to Do with What's Gonna Happen to Twilight

That last update was nuts, right?

In the aftermath, I heard that awhile back, Jojo said something about a dear Link's potential death having something to do with Kingdom Hearts, and sure enough, courtesy of @snowcapmt :

With what's going on with Twilight right now, this sets alarm bells going off--but what's Jojo getting at here?

Well buckle up kids, and get ready for your beginner-friendly crash course in Kingdom Hearts lore--specifically about death--and how it might be connected to Twilight's situation in Linked Universe by your friendly local KH fanatic. Let the rambling begin! (If any of this doesn't make sense and you have questions/corrections please feel free to send them. Or more theories about these lore elements!!)

So there's a little bit of a misconception that people can’t die in Kingdom Hearts. This isn't the case, per se, it's more like there are a lot of...loopholes. You see, the series was primarily created by Tetsuya Nomura, who you might know from working on the Final Fantasy VII Remake and Crisis Core—pretty dark stories. However, as Kingdom Hearts was meant to be more directed towards children, it couldn't involve as dark of elements as he is normally used to using--however, some of it ended up bleeding into it anyway, due to the general nature and themes of what he writes. You get situations where characters die, but are able to find ways out of it, or end up in death-equivalent situations--"fates worse than death" that are arguably much darker than if the character had just died.

So, let’s examine some of these different fates and see what they might have to do with Twilight.

Straight-Up Death

Sometimes characters straight-up die. (And some of them do actually end up staying dead sometimes! At least...so far...) However, "death" in KH works a little bit differently than how it works in other media. In KH, a character dying is specifically defined as when their heart is separated from their body. A character's "heart" is essentially their soul + their ability to feel emotions.

I find that the best way to think of KH characters is like containers--they can hold hearts, have hearts taken out of them, and can even house multiple hearts at the same time (the current record-holder is Sora, who held three hearts within him at the same time. We have a lot of "Heart Hotel" jokes.)

When a character dies, their body is left behind, and their heart either ascends to Kingdom Hearts, that giant heart-shaped moon you see a lot:

or to the Final World, which is essentially is a form of afterlife. Everyone usually goes to the Final World, but if you're killed by someone with a Keyblade, your heart goes to Kingdom Hearts, which is kind of like a giant heart container.

The difference between the two isn't really important. Hearts can be retrieved from either of these places and brought back to life, but only if the heart has a new body--a new container--to inhabit. Hearts and containers are sort of symbiotic, and cannot exist without the other without becoming something else.

None of this seems very relevant to Twilight, unless we want to consider the potential of the heroes traveling to an afterlife after Twi dies to try to retrieve his heart. However, I think there are far more promising and likely things within the KH lore to consider.

Heartless and Nobodies

Light and Darkness are prevalent themes in KH, being both moral alignments and sources of power that characters can draw on. They function in almost the exact same way the Force functions in Star Wars—the Light is the more morally correct power to draw on, but the Darkness is more tempting, seems more powerful, and the more you draw on it, the more you want to draw on it, until it’s dragged you so far down that you no longer can recognize yourself.

Everyone in KH has a different balance of Light and Darkness within their own heart, regardless of moral alignment. If a person lets their heart completely (note, completely) succumb to the Darkness within them, that heart becomes what is known as a Heartless. These malevolent creatures, no longer having any memory of who or what they once were, are essentially beasts driven by nothing but their insatiable hunger for other people’s hearts. They take many forms, but LU fans will be interested to know that the most well-known form of Heartless are called Shadows:

If a Heartless is killed, they will revert back to the heart they once were, and that heart will continue on to Kingdom Hearts or the Final World. Typically, Heartless are unable to revert back to the person they once were--except for in one notable instance in KH1, where our protagonist, Sora, was turned into a Heartless, but was saved through (of course) the power of love.

What if we get a situation like this in LU? Twilight succumbs to whatever is infecting him--the "darkness" in his heart amplified by the "shadow" Dink's infection--and he becomes some sort of monster or beast under Dink's control. Perhaps this even takes the form of Wolfie--which could potentially imply that, being a form created by the Twilight, it is a sort of "Heartless" in and of itself. The Chain has to fight him, but ends up saving him through the power of love.

However, one question still remains--what happens to the body when a heart becomes a Heartless?

Usually, nothing. However, if one has a particularly strong heart, the body will become a Nobody.

A Nobody resembles the person they once were--they have their old appearance (usually), personality, memories--in every way but one: as they are without a heart, they no longer are able to feel emotions.

Because of this, and the subsequent lack of a moral compass, Nobodies are particularly susceptible to being manipulated by villains within their proximity. As their minds are perfectly functional and they are completely sentient, Nobodies are typically more dangerous than their Heartless counterparts.

However, if a Nobody and its Heartless are killed, the heart and body can reunite, and the person can come back to life, or, as KH calls it, be "recompleted." Also--granted, over a very, very long period of time--a Nobody does have the potential to regrow its heart.

If our heroes are faced with the Heartless-Wolfie situation as described above, perhaps Twi's body could become a sort of Nobody, "puppeted" (*ahem*) by Dink--interestingly, very similarly to how Ganondorf "puppeted" Zelda's body in Twilight Princess.

However, I consider this next option to be the most likely:

Possession

Yep, on top of all of this, people can also be possessed. However, one has to fulfill a very specific set of criteria in order to possess another person.

Remember the container analogy I brought up earlier? Hang on to that for a sec.

First of all, in order to possess another person, your heart has to exit your body, leaving it behind, and enter another's--the heart hops out of one container and hops into another. However, the other heart doesn't just surrender their container. Both hearts now reside in the same container, but the one doing the "possessing" sits in the "pilot's seat," so to speak, and controls what the container does. The other heart, the possessee, has little to no control over the body, except to occasionally and temporarily cause the body to hesitate or to prevent it from doing something:

It is possible for the possessee to win back control over the "pilot's seat," but it requires an incredible strength of will, and usually favorable external circumstances (i.e., being forced to hurt a loved one).

However, you can't go around possessing anyone you want. As possession is a power originating from Darkness, the person that you want to possess has to be dabbling with--but has not yet been completely consumed by--the power of Darkness. Otherwise, they cannot be affected.

Once the possessee has been steeped in Darkness enough (did. did I just refer to a person as a teabag. I'm so sorry), they are open enough to the Darkness to let another heart enter their container and take control. They can be possessed willingly, as is the case with Riku:

But terrifyingly, this isn't necessary. If someone has dabbled enough in Darkness, they can be possessed against their will, as was the case with Terra:

But now back to LU. I think KH-style possession is the most likely fate to befall Twilight, given the narrative being built-up in the comics right now.

Remember how Dink keeps taking the forms of different monsters, but never a humanoid form? I'd be willing to bet quite a bit of money that this is because Dink doesn't have a corporeal form.

But why would he desire one, you may ask? He is extremely powerful as he is, as demonstrated by how easily he kept the Chain at bay. But if he had just wanted to kill the Chain, he could have, right then and there. However, Dink doesn't kill them--he just injures Twilight, then runs away. And remember, Dink very deliberately lures Twi away from the others, fights him, forces him to transform into his wolf form (the point at which he is closest to Darkness), and only then does he injure him.

My guess is that Dink doesn't just want to kill them, he wants to destroy them entirely--physically, emotionally, mentally. For what reason exactly I couldn't tell you, but regardless, possessing Twilight is the perfect way to do this. Twi is considered the most physically strong Link, making him the ideal body for him to inhabit; it instantly depletes the Chain's ranks by one; is an extreme emotional blow, especially as Twi takes up the role as the emotional glue within the group; and makes the Chain less likely to want to fight him, and more likely to do something reckless and stupid to try to rescue Twi. Possessing Twilight will tear the Chain apart from the inside.

Additionally, Twilight is the only one of the Chain he can possess, as he is the only one of the Chain who is (currently) dabbling in Shadow Magic. He has been using his ability to turn into Wolfie to aid the Chain--perhaps even abusing it--and it has left him vulnerable to manipulation by dark forces.

And all the signs are there. Remember how Twilight was deliriously waxing poetic about the Twilight--the moment before the light gives way to darkness? Or in the most recent update, how Four is freaking out about him having been using a Shadow Crystal to transform and worrying that it may have left him vulnerable to being possessed? The writing feels far too purposeful to me.

Dink figures out which of the Chain is toeing the line between Light and Darkness. He targets him, and forces him into the form that is most susceptible to Darkness. He injures him, possibly infecting him with some of his own Darkness, tipping him over the edge and rendering him vulnerable enough to be possessed.

It's terrifyingly ingenious.

Whew. That was a lot of "Darkness"s.

(A few additional notes about possession in KH:

When a character is possessed in KH, it is possible for them to leave their "will" behind in an object that, while limited in its capabilities, can oppose the possessor. For example, when he was possessed, Terra left behind his will inside his old suit of armor, referred to as the "Lingering Will":

If the above scenario were to play out, it would be really cool if Twilight could leave his "will" behind in the Master Sword, or something else, to aid the Chain.

Also, it is possible to divide your heart into pieces and have them inhabit several people at once, similar to the concept of Horcruxes. This isn't full possession, but it allows you to control the actions of everyone who carries part of your heart to a certain degree. This could be how Dink is controlling all of the monsters via the Black Blood, implying that the Black Blood is some extension of his heart/will.)

Other

There are many other "fates worse than death" in KH, but none of them really seem relevant to LU right now, so I'm going to skip them. There is one thing I will briefly touch upon though: anti-forms.

I hesitate to bring up anti-forms because...well...no one really knows what they are, despite them being present in the games since KH1. The current running theory is that a character, if briefly overcome by the Darkness in their heart, will temporarily become an anti-form of themselves. It causes them to act in a way they normally wouldn't, bringing out their worst desires and impulses--almost like a negative image.

The only reason I bring them up is that they have a strange resemblance to Dink in design:

Weird, right? I have no idea if this really has any relevance to LU, I just thought it was interesting.

Anyway, thank you for hanging with me this far!! I really hope this made some sense.

I am...terrified for Twilight. He's one of my comfort characters and I adore him. However, if Jojo is going with the Kingdom Hearts theme, there is a very high possibility of Twilight eventually being saved at the end, whatever happens--just prepare for a lot of angst.

(Also if any of this got you intrigued by the KH series, I cannot recommend it enough, especially if you love Legend of Zelda--there is a ridiculous amount of lore to sink your teeth into. When I tell you that I've barely scratched the surface with this post, I'm not kidding.)

WRT the most recent LU Update, I think I feel like this is kinda confirming what I hoped was going on in the last update but wasn't sure of until this one came out: Time is currently very stressed.

Back when Sky confirmed the portal was still active upon pursuing the Postman, Time responds to that confirmation with a very grim expression and words: "Remove any thoughts of concluding this journey. This is far from over."

From there, the entire next sequence up to their letters is rehashing the battle and, in many cases, blaming himself for stepping aside when facing an enemy he understands (styled after his, specific, Iron Knuckles) in favour of protecting Twilight. Despite Warriors reassuring him that his priorities, to protect over fight, were correct and ones he supports, Time is shifting from play and teasing into taking command of everyone in a very literal sense: he's focused on weapons, abilities, and preparations. He's obviously the person they're following the orders of, and he acts like it.

I don't remember the comic ever being this explicit about Time calling the shots before. Whether this is because Jojo started in media res, or because this is an actual change we may not know for sure, but the grim tone in Time's behaviour may be part of his reaction to Twilight when he asks him about the letter. I already did an extended analysis of that here, in which I point out that all the hints we get could be interpreted as PTSD, and frankly I think the newest update supports that.

The closest Time has come to smiling in the past few updates was when he was admiring Wild's new sword -- a practical question ("I need everyone to be properly armed. Is this resolved?" -- a commander's question, not a father or friend's, there!) and a compliment that would boost morale to be visibly approving of.

In the newest update, clearly a ways into the woods and away from the inn, Time is still as focused as Sky on their task. Literally everyone else is relaxed and playful, teasing each other as they reminisce, but Time (who, in previous portions of the story has played along with such things!) directly responds to Wild approaching him by telling him "Leave me out of--"

Explicitly, he's not in the mood to play. He doesn't actively stop him, but it's also obvious from his later statement ("What sort of conversation is taking place back there?") he's absolutely distracted by something else in his head. It's not because he can't hear them -- he responds to Warriors comment about his Zelda on the next page, so he's obviously in hearing range. He just wasn't listening.

Why? We don't know. I don't really buy the pregnancy thing, because while Time says the ranch is fine, again, he has not smiled since. I'm not sure the letter had anything to do with it; he's been grim since before then.

But clearly something's on the old man's mind.
