What it's like trying to learn about the Occult
Trying to learn more about the occult is so intimidating. I am trying to gather as much knowledge as I can, but there is so much reading material. Like for most other western religions it's "𝘏𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘣𝘰𝘰𝘬. 𝘙𝘦𝘢𝘥 𝘪𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘯 𝘪𝘵𝘴 𝘵𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴." But for the occult it's "𝘏𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘢 𝘥𝘦𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘱𝘪𝘵 𝘰𝘭𝘥 𝘭𝘪𝘣𝘳𝘢𝘳𝘺. 𝘔𝘰𝘴𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘰𝘰𝘬𝘴 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘱𝘢𝘨𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘯 𝘰𝘶𝘵. 𝘈𝘭𝘭 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘥𝘪𝘤𝘵 𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘩 𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳. 𝘚𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘴𝘵 𝘱𝘰𝘱𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘳 𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘴 𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘸𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘯 𝘣𝘺 𝘣𝘪𝘨𝘰𝘵𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘭𝘶𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘴. 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘶𝘳𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘴𝘮𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘴 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘭𝘥. 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘭𝘪𝘣𝘳𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘢𝘯𝘴 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘺𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘵 𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘩 𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳."

Advice for beginners learning tarot round two:
🔮Work with one deck for the next month or two. If you have multiple decks, choose one. When you are a beginner, using multiple decks will confuse you. I’m super guilty of this. I already had 2 decks I was working with when I decided I wanted to do this professionally. I had to set those two decks aside for a month and learn the A E Waite to undo the confusion. The fool from one deck can be a different energy from the fool in another deck, same with the other 77 cards. If you are trying to learn multiple meanings to multiple decks at once…you are going to be so darn confused.
🔮After you have worked with your one deck for a month or two and you feel you understand each card, now you may move onto a new deck, and learn those cards.
🔮Learn the major arcana first. Learn them in sequential order.
🔮When you are learning the minor arcana, choose one suit at a time. Learn them in sequential order. Spend a week at least with each suit, feeling the separate 4 elements.
🔮 Similar to the witches grimore and book of shadows, it is helpful to have 2 workbooks for tarot. One notebook should be used for all things tarot…history, daily readings, all the bulk of your learning in one notebook. A second notebook should be used for your hard copy of notes, after your study has been honed.
Love May xoxo

Discleimer: Don't start your journey as a witch by doing spells without knowing how to protect yourself.
It's important to note that the concept of spells, hexes, and curses can vary widely among practitioners. Some may follow positive and ethical paths, while others may engage in practices that involve more negative or harmful energies. Here's a general overview:
Spells:
Spells are rituals or actions performed with the intention of bringing about a specific result or change.
They can be categorized as positive (such as healing or protection spells) or negative (such as banishing or binding spells).
Spellwork often involves the use of herbs, crystals, candles, symbols, and spoken words to channel energy and focus intent.
Hexes:
A hex is typically considered a negative spell with the intent to cause harm or misfortune to the target.
Hexes are believed to work by manipulating energy to bring about negative consequences.
It's important to note that many practitioners follow the Wiccan Rede, which encourages the use of magic for positive purposes and advises against causing harm.
Curses:
Curses are similar to hexes but may be more severe or long-lasting.
They are often intended to bring about significant harm or suffering to the person targeted.
Some practitioners believe in the concept of the "Rule of Three," which suggests that any energy or intent sent out into the world, whether positive or negative, will return to the sender threefold.
I do follow the rule of three because everything comes back to you; as you sow so you shall reap. So be careful with any spell (or hexes or curses) because it may come back to you!
It's also important to approach the subject with respect and cultural sensitivity, as different traditions and individuals may have varying beliefs and practices. As with any belief system, there are diverse perspectives within the witchcraft community, and not all practitioners engage in hexes or curses.

what to do before you start a spell?
I will explain step-by-step how I prepare before any spell.
I clense my space.
I protect myself with a symbol or by praying to a god, which means that I am dedicating that spell to the specific god or asking for protection and guidance during the spell.
I prepare everything I need and clense it with smoke one by one.
The first thing I did was light up a white candle to keep track of the spell with the flame (I will do another post where I explain better how to read flames).
then I proceed to do my spell.

healing, protecting, and grounding.

You need to watch this talk if you're concerned/interested in what AI/ML does to, with and for us
Religious Belief and Practice in the Age of AI
Fantastic deep dive by an old friend of mine, formerly of these parts. It's not just about religion, but also the stories we tell, are being told, and tell us which give rise to the world we'r e in Right Damn Now, by a wonderful Black scholar. Do you want Nkisi, Solomon, talismans, the history of daemons, disabled folks and spaceflight, corporate technosocial theologies and ontologies in a so called "atheist" Sillicon Valley - overpolicing and military use of Machine-Learning-as-omniscient Gospel, Mary Shelley being smarter than most readers (historical or otherwise)?
It's all here, and a cool Q & A at the end, with juicy citations and jumping off points. Damien writes elsewhere: "Oh hey! If you wanted to check out my talk "Religious Belief and Practice in the Age of 'AI'" at the Pitts Theology Library at Emory University's Candler School of Theology - Emory University but were unable to attend in person, it's been published online!
This was such an amazing conversation, and the audience provided some really wonderful questions to think through and with. I'm so thankful to have gotten this opportunity and such a receptive and engaged audience for a topic I've always thought was crucial, and which I think will only be more important in the coming years:
Seriously engaging with tools and concepts from comparative religious studies, mythology, ritual studies, and the occult to help elucidate both major contextual cues about a LARGE swathe of past and present-day "AI" and tech culture, and also potential insights for how to both react to and shape those contexts.
I hope you enjoy it:"
youtube
Seriously, watch it.

Can someone tell me why I never learned about the five classified dwarf planets in our galaxy? Well of course minus Pluto (but when I was in school that was an actual planet)
But like why don’t we learn about Ceres, Haumea, Makemake, and Eris?

My favorite type of magical force in fiction is the kind you can't talk about. Not in the sense that it's forbidden, or even that it's hard to explain. But the type of magic that by its very nature, cannot be spoken of.
Old magicks that no longer have names. Whose spellbooks were all burnt to ash in years long past by people who believed their practitioners to be inferior. The type of magic that has evolved beyond the need for words or incantation in order to avoid extinction. It manifests only as a vague yet overwhelmingly powerful feeling in your gut, it's something you have to cast with your whole body instead of just your mouth. You cannot speak about it because the words have been lost, but the power remains.
New magicks that cannot be defined, that are unfamiliar and unique and dangerous to those who rely on and are limited to existing and mainstream power sources. The type of magic that people usually just throw under the umbrella term 'wild magic' and don't look too closely at. Young, untrained mages with massive raw potential that they don't know the true significance of because they're being manipulated or lied to by their mentors, who fear what they could do if they learned to harness their abilities properly. Healers and metal benders and telepaths in worlds where those aren't supposed to be possible, even if many other fantastical things already are. You can't speak about it because it's not supposed to exist, but it does.
Magic that comes from unexpected places, powers manifested by specific and very unlikely chains of events. Magic that comes from wishes and accidents or abilities passed on by an inter-dimensional being to an unsuspecting mortal because that inter-dimensional being is tired and ready for retirement. The types of magics that come from secrecy and exist in shadow and that you cannot speak of. Even if you wanted to, the words simply do not exist.
Just. Yeah there's something really fucking juicy about being filled with a power and/or knowledge that no one else can understand, even and especially in a world that theoretically should be able to.

faith is a skill. it can be learned, it can be honed, it can rust over time. it’s okay if you are struggling with placing faith in your Gods sometimes. nobody would expect your full faith right at the start, or even in the middle. it’s something you can work on and honour and improve. that’s why it’s beautiful.

i love my dm @immortanjill so much , we changed Brynns subclass to a circle of stars druid. when I first started playing druid I kind of sucked at spell caster cuz I was used to just ..tanking, so I chose moon druid as a kind of..spell caster/tank build to help me get used to spell casting. WELL I STILL KIND OF SUCK BUT NOT AS MUCH and as much as wild shape is a blast I’ve been wanting to be more of a full spell caster. It was a perfect time to do the swap since we just left the faewilds, and its kind of representative of him fully embracing his magic. ( he avoided talking about it or using it much at the beginning of the game )  all this to say i now have an excuse to draw him like magical girl transformation sequence ? except without the cute outfit at the end just. void sparkle.  Also, his dex has always been -shit- so his ranged attacks were awful. but now..spell ranged attacks? hes got so much wisdom. so much. T_T THE HITS, THEY ARE SATISFYING. FINALLY. HE CAN HIT.

Did you know Irish/Celtic birth trees are a thing?
Tumblr media
Similar to the zodiac sign it's based on the time of birth. I saw this yesterday in a YouTube video by Hearth Witch (link in comments)
She urges you to look into it deeper, and as a 3rd gen Irish Canadian I just had to. With a simple search on Google I found this image and my place as a Reed.
"Of course the one tree I know nothing about and won't even consider a tree is my sign just perfect I thought I am definitely less of value than the other trees." I thought to myself while more than slightly bullying myself for my birthday and trying to figure out how I could be an Ivy or Elder.
So I looked up the meaning behind a Celtic Reed. I open one article on my phone to a webpage to a Celtic radio station playing a full moon traditional Celtic song - the same song my granny plays during rituals.
I still haven't finished the article yet, I finished two paragraphs and my face was soaked in tears and I realized my misplaced shame for myself.
I was able to go to bed last night feeling more cemented in my place as a magical spiritual person and I am so glad I got that experience.
I will leave the link to read about your Celtic tree spirit as well if you are interested in reading more or feel free to tell me what yours is! I'm so interested in this overall and want to yap to people about it!
Thank you for reading, kind one and embrace your curiosities <3
~ Blessed be ~

Advice for beginners learning tarot:
My mentor taught me to stop reading reversed cards. You need to learn the general energy of the card, there’s no need to learn two sets of meanings. Flip the card upright
Learn the major and minor arcana separate
Read and research about archetypes, not “how to read tarot”
Write down and date all tarot notes. This will cement your personal relationship with the cards.
Learn about the switching of the cards 8 and 11. Learn why they were switched.
Research numerology, synchronicity, the shadow.
Love May xo 🔮🌸🩷🩵
