Canon Remus was not a hardened orphan living in a group home. He was a chronically ill child raised by loving parents that were willing to FIGHT DUMBLEDORE to protect him. (Literally, Lyall DILF Lupin thought he was coming to take Remus away when Dumbledore personally delivered Remus' Hogwarts Letter)
So no, Remus was not a smooth-talking 7-ft-tall Casanova badass sex God with rippling muscles. He had zero friends before attending Hogwarts due to the fact that his loving parents kept him isolated out of fear that their son's Lycanthropy would be discovered, which would have ruined his life.
Canon Remus was most likely a timid, awkward, sheltered kid that was afraid of his own shadow because Hogwarts would be such an overwhelming experience for a little boy that has never interacted with another child in his LIFE and probably never even left his own home before. I imagine that books were his only connection to the outside world, which is why I can't stand the HC that he is completely illiterate when he first arrives at Hogwarts
tldr, Remus Lupin is the love of my life and is one of the few Marauders era characters with an actual backstory and personality, but this fandom just refuses to move on from a singular fic that completely rewrote everything about him.
And I'm not even going to start on how the Alpha Male-ification of Remus has also resulted in the complete assassination of Sirius' character for the sake of internalized heteronormativity that runs rampant in this fandom.

They thought it was strange how Remus had been the first to lose his virginity out of the three of them. Both Sirius and James had girls throwing themselves after them constantly, but somehow, Remus was the first to go all the way.
You had always found them all quite attractive, but thought that Sirius and James tended to be a bit obnoxious at times. When you saw Remus studying alone in the library one day, you thought you’d go up and say hi to the tall, handsome guy. The two of you had only talked briefly before this interaction, but soon found that you enjoyed each other’s company. It didn’t take long from there for you to go on a date and soon you were a couple.
Remus, ever the gentleman, didn’t tell his friends about your first time, he thought it was best kept private between the two of you, therefore you always tried to keep it somewhat lowkey, finding time to be perfectly alone. Though any secret could not be held for long in that dorm and one evening the cat came running and screaming out of the bag. You thought you’d get to be alone with Remus, as the other two had practice. As it turned out, however, practice was canceled and the door to the dorm was thrown open just in time for the two surprised boys to see you orgasm, quivering around Remus’ cock.
It slightly ruined the mood and you struggled to cover yourself as Sirius went on a long rampage about “The betrayal! The absolute betrayal. Our baby moons got laid and didn’t tell us. Here he is, having had sex the whole time – while keeping us in the dark.” He was pacing back and forth, only half joking about his distress before deciding to be the bigger person and be happy for his friend. “Good job Moons. First one out of all of us. Amazing.” With a chef’s kiss he left the subject of betrayal and moved on to something else.
After the embarrassing moment of coming in front of your boyfriend’s friends, it didn’t take long before the question was asked.
“Hey Moony, since you already had sex, could you teach us how to do it?”
“Yeah, Moons, I wanna be ready for when Lily lets me go all the way if you catch my drift,” James agreed, with a very unnecessary wink as everyone understood exactly what he meant.
You stared, gaping. That they would ask such a question didn’t surprise you one bit. The fact that Remus seemed to be actually thinking it over did.
“I guess,” he started, patting your thigh, “you’re gonna ask her if she’s willing to teach you.”
You, teaching his friends how to have sex? The idea was preposterous. Yet… It did make you feel a certain tingle between your legs. You still found them attractive, and the thought of being the one to take their virginities? Oh, that was just beautiful. You thought it over in your head. Remus was quite dominant, not really treating you as a submissive but he liked being a bit in control, he’d never let you have all the reigns. These two however… Looking Remus straight in the eye, you searched for any form of hesitance – you didn’t find any.
“Alright then, we’re gonna have to set some rules,” you said.
It was agreed that the day after, you’d help take your boyfriend’s best friends’ virginities. You said 24 hours to give everyone a chance to back out, and told them very specifically that they would shower, properly, “none of that locker room stuff, a real shower, clean everything.” It was best to be clear when dealing with teenage boys.
A whole 24 hours later you found yourself walking up the stairs to their dorm. You knew Remus would be there, and you knew they’d given consent. You wore your school skirt, but without panties, a t-shirt with a very flattering bra and your hair out. You had to get yourself in that dominant mood, ready to boss the boys around. Since becoming Remus’ girlfriend, you had gotten to know his friends as well. You knew James would be easier to dom, and you knew Sirius would be a little brat. Therefore, you started with James. Opening the door, you could cut the tension with a knife.
The boys were so cute and nervous, standing up and waiting for you (not Remus, of course, he was comfortably splayed out on his own bed). “Jamie,” you said. “Do you still wanna do this?” He nodded. “Okay, then take your clothes off and sit down on your bed. You,” you turned to Sirius, “are gonna have to wait your turn.”
When James was naked and seated on the edge of his bed, you took a moment to appreciate his toned body. The moment didn’t last very long though as you wanted to feel him. Climbing into his lap, thighs straddling his, you took his face and held it in your hands. He was so pretty, so soft, so pliable. “Jamie, have you ever kissed a girl?” you asked him, bringing your mouth so close to his that your lips almost touched his. “No,” he said, cheeks flushing red. Holding onto his cheeks, you brought your lips against his, softly at first, then with a little more pleasure. The warm breath from his nose on your cheek sent chills down your spine. Deciding to progress, you slightly opened your mouth, letting your tongue out to lick lightly at his lips. He moaned.
You continued kissing him, making out really, until you felt he was ready to move on. Leaning back a little, you pulled your top over your head, revealing your soft tits, perfectly framed by your bra. “Go ahead, baby, you can touch.” With your permission, warm hands pressed against your back before following the lines of your body, meeting your front and lightly squeezing your tits. You allowed him to explore freely, until he pushed his head down, paused and looked up at you, eyes asking for permission. Instead of answering him verbally, you pushed your tits against his face, letting him know he could kiss and suck all he wanted. He did manage to get your bra off all on his (you were so proud of him), and as it fell to the floor, you felt his cock twitching.
You let him play some more with your boobies before taking his hand, kissing it once and telling him “Jamie, have you ever felt a girl?” When he shook his head, you kissed the top of his head and pushed his hand down, between your bodies and toward your core. “Feel that? I’m all wet, that’s all for you baby,” you cooed, watching his facial expressions in awe – he was so fascinated. “Now, do you know where your little cock is supposed to go?” Little was a big lie. His brows furrowed in concentration as he felt around for the right hole, he did find it, and pushed a finger in. “Good boy, now put your cock in.” You raised yourself, hovering above him, hand coming down to help him push his cock into your warm hole. “Oh that’s a good boy f’me,” you moaned, loving the feeling of him filling you up.
Being so focused on James had almost made you forget about your audience, looking to the side, you met Remus’ hungry eyes. You could tell he was enjoying the show, hand rubbing against the bulge in his pants. You decided not to look at Sirius, making him wait for your attention.
Grabbing James’ shoulders, you carefully tried moving, sliding yourself along his cock, making you both moan. You tried a few different movements, going up and down, back and forth. It felt really good and you enjoyed playing around with it, and it seemed as though he was enjoying it too, his head thrown back, glasses askew and mouth slightly open. Suddenly his hands squeezed hard on your hips, making you stop your movements. “Jamie, you okay?” You asked, massaging his scalp with your fingers. “Yeah,” he reassured, “yeah, just need to… I’m gonna come…”
You giggled softly, “it’s okay if you do, but first, I wanna do one more thing.” Pulling your body away from his was hard, letting his heavy cock fall out of you was even harder, and you immediately mourned the loss. Though, you knew it would be worth it. Laying down flat on your back, you beckoned for him to join you, to climb on top of you. “You should know how to fuck a girl, Jamie,” you said, helping him find his way back into you. His athletic body was made for this, for moving himself back and forth, hips pushing against yours. He didn’t go very fast, but you knew he’d be able to when he got more used to the feeling. Hiding his face against your neck, letting the vibrations of his moans shoot right through you, his hips started making the smallest, cutest, most desperate little movements. “That’s good baby, that’s a good boy, you’re doing so well, so good, making me feel so good.” You didn’t think you’d be able to come, he was a virgin, but the little thrusts pushed the head of his cock against you in a way that just felt too good to hold back.
“Jamie, baby, I’m ‘bout to come,” you moaned, kissing his head, holding him close, “you’re so go- ah-od,” your moans grew louder as you experienced a rather mild orgasm, though, an orgasm nonetheless. Your walls spasming around him made him come as well, pretty cock filling you up with his little virgin cum.
“Wow, Jamie, you did so well, I’m so proud of you,” you told him, after he had pulled out and collapsed on top of you. His head was still buried in the crook of your neck, his breathing fast and hard. “Did you enjoy it?” You asked, to which he pulled his face away, eyes wide. “Like it? That was amazing.”
You stayed like that, letting him hold onto your body for a while, not wanting to leave him without aftercare and love. Though you knew, as soon as James moved away from you, you’d have to deal with his mischievous best friend. Before you let James continue his cuddling – with Remus – you made him promise you something. “Next time love, you’re gonna let me take your cute little cock in my mouth, okay?” To this, he nodded, excitedly.

Bday plan
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
"James, I swear if you said anything to her I will hang you upside down from the astronomy tower for an entire day." Remus says in a particularly annoyed and contrite tone.
The young werewolf immediately felt guilty for talking that way to his friend, but at the same time he couldn't believe that James had almost screwed up the whole plan he had designed to put on your birthday party. He had been planning everything down to the last detail for a month now, to make sure everything is perfect on your big day, and he couldn't let a chatty deer ruin everything just because he's careless.
He sees pure fear in his friend's eyes after threatening him with one of his greatest fears: height.
"Sorry." Whispers James, as he backs away slowly to make room for his friend, seeing that he is stressed right now. "But I swear she didn't understand anything. It just slipped out that I had to see you to arrange something, and I said it was my gift to her." Potter continues, as he looks at Sirius, who up to this moment had been silent. Immediately his best friend understands the plea for help and nods.
"Yes, she didn't understand anything, we were very good at lying to her." Says the older Black, as Regulus runs a hand over his face, remembering the scene that took place a short time ago in the Great Hall. Indeed James and Sirius had been good at creating a believable excuse, but I young Black knows you better than you think, and he had seen in your eyes the seed of doubt, and he knows that this is not good at all. In your group of friends you are known for having a sixth sense and a spirit of observation so keen that sometimes it seems you can read people's minds and, even, the future. The very moment they've said their shit, Regulus knows that some strange mechanisms have been activated in your mind that have caused you to weigh all possible options, and so he knows they're screwed.
"No, you have to excuse me. I didn't think organizing a birthday was so hard, but at the same time I want everything to be perfect for her, because she deserves it." Remus confesses, as he holds his head in his hands, trying to relax.
"You know she's going to say you're overreacting anyway and she doesn't deserve it." Regulus comments, as he puts away the last things for the party. Your birthday would be celebrated this evening, after a romantic walk between you and your fiancé. Remus had managed to convince the prefect with the Ravenclaw night shift to turn a blind eye, and would thus take you in front of the Room of Requirement, afterwards around the park, and there all your friends would surprise you. It was a well-thought-out plan, and it still doesn't explain how you didn't actually almost come to find out only today and not weeks before.
"Which is silly after all he gives every day for us." Sirius continues, as James nods, placing balloons on the wall. "Our mother deserves a proper celebration." The oldest Black concludes, making all three other boys laugh. "Ever since you and Remus got together, the boys started calling you the 'mom' of the group, since they always teased Remus for being their dad in a way, since he was the most responsible of the four.
When they finish laughing they go back to work to sort out the last few things for the party, knowing that it is now only a short time away. Right now you are supposed to be with the girls, whose job it is to distract you from the absence of your friends and your boyfriend, but Remus cannot help but keep fidgeting both behind every little detail and out of fear that at any moment you might walk in the door and find out why he has not been very close to you these past few weeks, but after all, part of him knows it might be because of the gift he gave you.
Remus keeps moving like a damned soul without rest for a while before Regulus stands up and blocks him with a hand on his shoulder.
"Man, everything is perfect, why don't you just relax for a moment?" The youngest among them asks the werewolf, but immediately Regulus sees in his friend's eyes that there is something else and not just what they are preparing that is upsetting him.
"There is something that doesn't give you peace." Regulus comments, and Remus says nothing, and just looks at him. "It's not like it's the gift you gave her, is it?" The Slytherin continues, marveling at the Gryffindor in front of him.
"How did you do that?" Lupin asks, increasingly shocked by young Black's prowess, when the other in response merely laughs.
"You were playing with a little box earlier, and can one read the doubt and fear in your eyes?" Regulus explains, continuing to laugh, while Remus in response rolls his eyes and looks at the clock, seeing that it was almost time to see you, so he gets up.
"It's almost time for our walk. Take care guys, the others should be here soon. Don't screw up please." Lupin asks as he looks at his friends, who reassure him and give him pats of encouragement.
"Go and return victorious with the lady messer Lupin." Sirius says, giving him a sort of bow, just before Remus walks out the door. He turns and as a last thing gives him a middle finger, after promising never to let him see "The princess bride" again.
Remus could feel his own heart beating in his throat as he saw you coming downstairs in simple jeans and his favorite sweater. You are simply perfect in his eyes, and nothing could change his mind.
"Finally, it seems like I haven't seen you in forever. Where have you been until now?" You ask curiously, seeing him a little stressed. "Are you okay? You look a little pale honey."
Immediately his heart warms at hearing your concern, and he can't help but think that maybe those nutty friends of his are right to call you "mom," and gently the boy shakes his head.
"I'm fine honey, maybe I just need to get some air. Would you like to take a ride with me?" He asks, and he doesn't even have to wait a second for an answer, as like a hurricane you pounce on him, taking him under your arm and running toward the school grounds. You walk around the lawns for a while, laughing and joking like you haven't in a long time. Nothing could dent your mood, and nothing exists apart from each other at this moment.
From the outside, one can see obvious the love you feel for the other person, only from your eyes, more than from your gestures, which seem to sing the most beautiful love song ever heard.
Hours seem to pass, then Remus looks at his watch and realizes that you are running late, so with the excuse that he has to catch another prefect in one of the side corridors to get the keys to a closet for the next prank James and Sirius are planning, he takes you in front of the mystery room. He's never felt more flustered than he does right now, and he's doubtful whether to give you the gift now or later, when you, damned curious as usual, lean out and touch the door.
"How come the room of needs is visible?" Ask curiously, as you watch him break into a cold sweat and try to play the part of the one who hides nothing.
"I have no idea my dear, try opening it and see what's behind it." Try suggesting Remus, as he rests a hand on your shoulder to guide you into the darkness of the room that opens before you. A few seconds pass and just as you're wondering what the point of it all is, the lights come on and all your friends pop out from behind couches and armchairs, shouting who "surprise" who "happy birthday," but all with beaming smiles on their lips as they come to hug you.
You immediately feel tears in your eyes, which you let run, because of the happiness and excitement they made you feel seeing so many people gathered to celebrate you.
Once you've greeted everyone you turn to Remus, who looks at you smiling, his hands behind his back.
"Did you arrange everything?" You ask in amazement as you look around and try to memorize every single detail of everything around you. "You didn't have to-"
"Yes I had to. You deserve this and much more than I can give you, you deserve the world, indeed the universe. And it wasn't just me, everyone helped me in some way." He interrupts you, as he circles your shoulders with one arm, and you hold him even tighter to you, squeezing his waist. "I love you, and all I want to do is remind you of that every day, but today especially, after all it's your day, and we all came here just for you, because we all love you, me more than all of them." He continues, resting his forehead on yours. Then he freezes for a moment, right for a few seconds and pulls out a box from his pants pocket.
"I want to give you my present now, because I want you to think about it." He says and you, confused for the umpteenth time this evening, wipe away the last of your tears and then pick up the box he is handing you. It is a black velvet box, and when you open it you see a pair of keys. You look up not understanding what they were, so your boyfriend explains.
"These are the keys to an apartment in Edinburgh, in your favorite area, which I may or may not have asked an old family friend to rent to me and my girlfriend, once I finished school, if she wanted to move in with me. What do you say, what will she decide?" He asks as he strokes your face and tucks a strand of hair behind your ear. You can't help but cry again before you go back to hugging him, just enough to take his breath away, your arms wrapped around his neck.
"I don't even have to think about it, the answer is obviously yes idiot." You whisper between the kisses you leave all along his face, making him laugh, while a few tears escape him as well. "You know you're pretty dumb for the smartest guy I know, it was obvious my answer was yes. And me thinking for a moment today that you had found a new girlfriend and were going to break up with me, damn how stupid I am."
Both of you laugh, still clasped in each other's arms, enjoying that closeness you had missed so much.
"I love you more than my own life, how could I ever look for another girl, when I have the most perfect girl that exists in the whole universe?" Remmy says in a whisper in your ear.
"I love you too Lupin, but you don't have to suck up, look you've already won your reward tonight." You counter by winking at him and he jokes by raising his eyebrows and whispering "I won, let's hurry up and leave this party then," making you laugh, until that sweet moment is interrupted as usual by the grace of Sirius Mr.Elegance of the Year Black.
"Do you want to be part of the party too, or are you going to be lovebirds the whole party?" He asks to throw a handful of confetti at you.
"I guess your reward will have to wait for Lupin." You say, as you hear him laugh, and together you go to enjoy this party with your friends, while in your mind already what will happen tonight in your own personal after party.

A/N: Remus lupin is hot.
The Pub was full of people, laughing, drinking. Remus and his friends were celebrating the pregnancy of Lily Evans and James potter.
but everything seemed to be in slow motion, all his friends were married, had a Partner, or pregnant. but not Remus. no, he didn’t have anything of the sort. so instead Remus went out to get some fresh air…when he found you.
in the alleyway of the bar.
you looked like some sort of god from the heavens. hair loosely resting on your shoulder, outfit that hugged in all the right ways. the smoke exhaling out of your mouth, blowing in his direction. it didn’t smell like a normal cigarette, no it was weed you were smoking.
you didn’t see him yet. too busy looking at your arm?
“Hey…” You said, now looking his way. “Hey, Dove” Against his own judgment he walked closer to you. now standing side by side, picking the joint out of your mouth. you wave it in his direction.
“What if i was a cop? or a narc?” he grinned, taking the joint. and sucking it until it lit up red with fire. you only rolled your eyes, mirroring his smirk. “I know who you are, Some of my friends buy from you.” your friends? why didn’t they buy from you then?…
“I…i have a rule with selling to friends and family,” he understood, probably more than you’d ever know.
“Yeah, i understand that rule.” The night was silent as he watched you crouched down, balanced on your knees. “Celebrating?” You smirk, standing tall. “Something like that…my best-friends are having a baby.” Just thinking about it brought a smile to his face.
“congratulations on them.” Smirking, you look at your arm again. “What’s with the glances are your arm?” He questions, stepping on the fished joint. “Nothing really, visualizing my next tattoo” tattoo?
“Any ideas?” Remus ponders, slipping up his sleeves. Revealing his own tattoos littering on his forearms. “Maybe…a wolf? I quite like the folklore behind them.” You trace the part of your arm where the ink would be. “they have folklore? You mean symbolic?” He would tell you why his friends call him moony, as his spirit animal is definitely a werewolf.
he doesn’t want to ruin the vibe you both so clearly have going on.
“they symbolize the struggle between good and evil, werewolves are technically anti-hero’s…so” you shrug, tucking your hands into your chest. “Hm I’m sure if they were real they would be”
“they actually are real…I am one, but don’t tell anyone or else” you jokingly threaten, bringing your lip to your lips in a ‘shhh’ manner.
“As long as you don’t tell anyone I am” Remus plays along, staring off into the distance. “Almost a full moon, better get going..” your red lips move into a soft smile while you talk.
“See you whenever your here next..” you wave goodbye, heading back inside to presumably go home. And Remus can’t help but imagine what your tattoo will exactly look like.
he wonders if maybe the full moon carries good luck.
Days go by, Remus shows up everyday to see if you appear. But alas you don’t, not for four long painful days, and boy was it worth the wait.
your black dress clings to your figure, hair loosely around your shoulders. As you tip the drink into your mouth, he notices the cling wrap on your left arm. It also doesn’t take long for you to spot him.
“Remus, hey!” Remus only tilts his head up for a second then goes back to your arm. In red ink is the outline of a wolf, then in black ink is the shape outline of a woman he assumes is supposed to be you inside of it.
“that’s amazing…why the left arm?” the brunette says, “ Left hand is symbolically unlucky…but the tattoo is gorgeous!” You seem over the moon with joy at your new addition to your body. “Like someone else I know.” He lets slip in the casual Conversation, although your reaction was worth it.
blushing mess in front of him, almost as red as the ink on your arm.
“that was bad.” You say blankly. “You liked it.” He retorted.
yes you did.

Part 2 , Part 3
I woke up, gasping for air, sweat making my shirt cling to my body like a second skin. I must look downright crazy, with flushed cheeks, hair a wild mess, and rubbing my thighs together without a stop. My mind drifted back to the dream that caused the state of my reaction.
His hands were roaming my body like I was the only thing he had ever wanted. And finally gripping my hips and making them move backwards until they hit his, and he was balls deep inside of me. Again. And again. And again.
The dream itself wasn't the problem. Sure, a sex dream wasn't that bad, and she had several over the years, but what she moaned and who was supposedly giving her all that pleasure was. Remus.
How? How had this happened to her? Not him. Not the one boy she never got along with. Not the one person who drove her up against the wall. Not the one that-
No, it actually made perfect sense. He was the only one who made her feel something. Sure, said "something" was regularly negative feelings. Like irritation, deep-rooted hate. But it certainly was more than anyone has ever made her feel. She looked at her alarm clock. And… great, only fifteen more minutes before it was time to get ready for breakfast. How was she supposed to pull herself together after that? It was going to be a long day.
She dressed in her uniform, only leaving her blue-silver striped tie, loosely knotted around her neck, her top two buttons open, exposing her collarbones. Her trousers, replacing the usual skirt, hugged her waist and hips nicely. Thank God, if there is one, but she had single-handedly managed to convince the professors in the monthly Perfects meeting, that the female population of this school, formal and fancy vocabulary had definitely been a strong part of her remarks, should be allowed to wear trousers whenever they wanted and felt like it.
She walked towards the Ravenclaw table and quickly filled her plate with pancakes doused in chocolate because well… who doesn't love chocolate? Her eyes roamed the blurry Dining Hall. Man, she really should start using her wire-framed glasses, the ones that were an identical pair to his. They had bought them so as to match when they were still friends. Before he ruined everything.
There he was. The beautiful, arrogant blurry bastard. She would recognise his curly hair and mischievous dark green eyes paired with his scarred face glory. Damn him and his annoying good looks. And when the hell did her eyesight get that bad? Maybe it was the sleep deprivation, which was again his fault. She could proudly say, though, that she was still squinting and glaring at the world as she always did. And everything was right. Until…
"My God, you are so tight. And so perfectly marked up. Everyone should know who you belong to, don't you think?" He said as his hand travelled upwards, one of her thighs. Moving easily as all her previous orgasms slid down her legs. All courtesy of his mouth, of course. "I love seeing you like this. I never thought that fucking your brains out until you are senseless would be such an easy way to shut you up."
… she remembered that and choked on her treacherous hot chocolate.
"Well, well, the she-devil just choked on her hot chocolate? Is it because your body detests anything sweet? " his voice called out. That deep, still slightly raspy and sleepy voice that made his Welsh accent stand out more prominently. She hated that voice, she thought, yet her body betrayed her and shivered, as if it was somehow remembering all that fantastic, imaginary, things it supposedly whispered in her skin.
Oohs and aahs echoed in the room, accompanied by chuckles and whispers, praising his "sick burn."
"You know what, Lupin? I always thought you were a pretentious piece of shit, but I never thought you were so self-centered to actually call yourself indirectly sweet. Is it one of those days of the month where you need a little confidence boost?", I called back as I finished eating and stood up from my seat.
A fuming Remus was the last thing I saw as I exited the room. Now, every member of the school faculty was laughing because of my comeback.
Lost in thought I walked towards the Ravenclaw Tower, and then felt an arm grasping my wrist and pining me into the wall, despite driving my elbow into said attacker in his nose, stomach (were those abs? Who was she kidding of course her attacker would have abs) and well … dick. But they didn't react at all as if those blows, who should have winded the air out of someone. Except- right lycanthropy super strength bullshit.
"You think that was funny?" He said in a deathly quiet tone, as if he wanted to murder me on the spot… or fuck me against the wall? Okay, now she was just self projecting.
"I think it was hilarious."
"Sometime you are going to learn to respect me, foxy?"
"Sure, when Hell freezes over."
"You know, you remind me of those foxes and black cats. They consider themselves so smart and mean, yet they are unaware of the danger they will face because of it. "
"And you are the danger? Climb off your high horse Lupin." I whisper in his face. Our lips only mere centimeters apart.

a prompt:
sirius and regulus argument. probably something which has been manifesting for a while, like it starts with short sly comments and then builds up to create tension within the family (cuz i consider them part of the dumais family) so dumo tries to comfort one or both of them in the end? kinda long prompt, it’s just something that i’ve not seen and would like to see how it would work?
Gnaw at the Bone, because I just can't leave these two alone. Character credit goes to @lumosinlove <3
TW** (please be gentle with yourselves!): canon shit childhoods (no graphic abuse), Walburga and Orion's A+ parenting, sibling parentification, panic attack, bad coping mechanisms (skating), and past minor injuries from said coping mechanisms
“Sirius.”
“Reg.”
His stomach twisted. His head throbbed. His mouth tacked over, lips sticky, chapped, too much, not enough. Years of it. Stars in orbit, on a collision course with anything that came too close—their gravity was inescapable and destructive to the nth degree. They ruined everything but each other. That gravity would rub and chafe and grind at their rough surfaces and it made him sick to think about it.
Oh, it made him sick to think about it.
--
“Sirius.”
“Reg.”
And that was it—a clipped acknowledgment from scowling lips, then resignation. Regulus disappeared down the hall with his pasta. Sirius watched him go, shook his head, and headed in the opposite direction with a white-knuckled grip on his cup.
Alright then.
“Everything okay?” Pascal ventured.
Sirius jumped, his glower lifting for a moment in surprise, as if Pascal hadn’t been sitting there for over an hour. “What?”
Pascal tilted his head toward the empty doorway and set aside the broken toaster. “Everything okay?”
His mouth dipped in a grimace; his brow wrinkled like he was trying to find the weak link in a failing play, but something simmered beneath. “We’ll figure it out,” Sirius finally answered. “We’ll—it’s Reg, you know?”
Pascal didn’t know, actually, but Sirius was gone before he could ask for an elaboration. In fact, the only thing he knew for sure was that Regulus had gone through a period of rapid character development over the past nine months and that Sirius didn’t stop loving him for a single second of it, even through the snappish attitude, even through those horrible interviews that Regulus clearly regretted. They were two sides of the same coin with the unfortunate ability to be as evasive as greased weasels.
Celeste would say he was being nosy. Pascal preferred to think of it as a natural desire to engage with his kids as a loving, supportive parent.
He looked down at the toaster, then back up at the opposing doorways and sighed. It seemed some detective work was in order.
--
“Remus! How are you, mon ami?”
“I’m…good?” To his credit, Remus recovered quickly and offered a light fist bump in greeting. “What’s up?”
Pascal waved a vague hand. “The usual. House is good? Dog is healthy? Boyfriend is happy?”
Bingo. A shadow flickered over Remus’ face before it smoothed out into his usual neutral friendliness. “Yeah, we’re doing great. We were thinking of repainting the living room soon, so if there’s a day you want to borrow the dog, I’m all ears.”
“Parfait, I’ll let you know. And Regulus?”
There it was again—the tension, the twitch, the passive smile. “I think Sirius is just glad to have him home. It’s really been great getting to know him. He’s a sweet kid.”
He might be, but he’s been getting on your nerves, too. If Pascal knew anything, that would piss Sirius off more than any insult Regulus hurled his way. “I’m so glad to hear it. It’s good for them to be near each other right now.”
He clapped Remus on the shoulder and stood before the younger man could respond. It wasn’t just a one-time problem, then; whatever the seething, festering thing between Sirius and Regulus was, it had seeped into their everyday function. Enough that it had even begun annoying Remus ‘Patient’ Lupin. Pascal might not be able to fix their issue, but that didn’t mean he couldn’t give them a nudge in the right direction.
Sirius was right where he left him, hunched on the bench with a whiteboard in hand, though his pen served more as a drumstick than a writing instrument as Pascal approached. The tip-tapping stopped when he ruffled Sirius’ hair and took the seat next to him. “Defense,” Sirius muttered by way of explanation. “There’s a gap. Tremzy’s a killer when he goes in for a shot, but we need to close his spot when he moves.”
Pascal hummed in agreement and propped his skates up on the boards, letting the battered wood take his weight and ease the ache. “Good eyes.”
“ ‘s what I get paid for.”
“You seem tense, mon fils.”
“Hmm?” Sirius blinked. His eye contact was pristine, but his attention was lightyears away. “Sorry, just thinking. Did you need something?”
Pascal offered a wry smile. “What, you’re too old to let me sit with you?”
The deep crease between Sirius’ brows smoothed out; he smiled softly. He blinked again; this time, a bit of him returned. Not beyond all hope of intervention, then. “Non. Desolé. I’m…I’m in my head today.”
“Nothing to be sorry for.”
A few seconds passed before Sirius nodded. Pascal watched his gaze go distant again and his cheek dimpled as he bit the flesh inside. Guilt. Perhaps frustration. A twisted mystery to solve, if Pascal had not been watching him so closely since he first blessed their threshold. It was Regulus, it was Remus and Regulus—
It was something from a time Sirius had been trying to lock down. Ghosts were hard to trap behind hasty boards, nailed haphazard and half-panicked. Sirius was better, not healed. He was safe, not exorcised. He was so goddamn brave it hurt to watch, but Pascal wasn’t foolish enough to miss the way he spooked. And Regulus was a good kid, but a fucking mess all the same.
(Privately, he questioned the decision to go headlong into university right after escaping 18 years of living hell. That was not his place to challenge and not his problem to solve.)
(But still. University? Really?)
Sirius made another note on his board. A canine tooth poked out as he worried at his lower lip. Pascal watched him fidget, hands up and over and under and between, and steadied himself with a slow exhale when Sirius began twirling his pen over his knuckles with a dull, rippling noise.
“Regulus is angry with me.”
Pascal made an impassive noise. It was Regulus.
“I think. Probably.” Sirius’ knee bounced for a five-count before going still. “He’s working through a lot. Finals were hard. It took him off-guard. He got snappy at Remus.”
Remus and Regulus. “Oh?”
“Something about changing his sheets. He didn’t like that we went in his room to clean while he was away.”
Something from a time you’ve been trying to lock down. Not mutually exclusive events, but a progression. Sirius was fixed on a far point, no longer tracking the movement of players. His hands had gone quiet.
“I think I—I think they—” Space hung between them like a bear trap. It was horrible to be right. Sirius exhaled hard and shook his head. “C’est pas grave.”
Pascal bit back his disappointment. He knew better than to think it would spill out so easily. He scooted closer on the bench, and when Sirius didn’t flinch, leaned over to bump him with a gentle shoulder. “Don’t let it eat you up, ouais? Regulus is grown. So are you. It will come in time.”
A halfhearted nod was the best he would get, it seemed. Pascal risked a soft squeeze to the back of Sirius’ neck and—there he was. The loosening of his tense shoulders, the careful lean into the contact. “We’ll talk,” Sirius said.
“Take it slow,” Pascal advised, and prayed to any god that Sirius would at least listen to that. Those who shoved their hands in the cage of a feral animal only came away bitten and rabid. For all his growth, Sirius was plenty feral without the influence of Regulus Black ripping him open again.
They watched the drills together in silence for forty-five minutes. When they were done, Sirius’ clipboard held only blank paper.
--
“Tuney and I were really close. As kids, I mean.”
A light, fluffy cloud passed overhead on the rushing breeze.
“We did everything together. Like, literally everything. Mom used to joke that we should’ve been twins.”
The pain in her voice was one he knew well.
“We started drifting when I hit junior high, I think.” A controlled, even breath followed the gentle sound of a dandelion being picked. A few bits of fluff floated in and out of view. “And then high school came around, and she hated my fucking guts. Shredded all my tights with a fork. Refused to look at me in the lunchroom. Mom and Dad didn’t tell her it was okay, but they didn’t stop her, either. They just kind of sat there and looked sympathetic.”
Quiet fell over them again. A strand of hair billowed over his vision for a half-second. Time for a haircut.
“I still don’t know what I did,” Lily confessed to the afternoon sun. “I still don’t think she’s forgiven me.”
Looking at Regulus now, Sirius thought he might finally understand what she meant.
The corner of Regulus’ mouth was turned down; not more than usual, but enough to be a scowl to anyone who knew where to look. Quietly, he hoped Regulus’ school friends could tell the difference. He deserved to have people like that. Sirius wasn’t sure he had explained that very well before sending him off. Or ever.
“It’s a good book,” he said.
Regulus made a noncommittal noise. He hadn’t turned a page since Sirius paused in the doorway.
Another try. Pull back to the midline, find an open corridor. “One of my favorites.”
“Je sais.”
“Why are you angry with me?”
Once upon a time, he would not have been so bold as to ask. Once upon a time, Regulus would have sunk further into his cocoon. One pale finger traced the edge of the worn paperback. “I’m not angry with you.”
You’re always a little angry with me. “You won’t look at me.”
“God forbid I’m busy.”
“You’re reading.”
“And I’m busy,” Regulus said waspishly. “Go get Remus to take you for a walk, or something.”
Maybe this was where Lily had failed. In one way or another, she and Petunia had missed each other in the middle. He could recall those six terrible, lonely years with too much clarity to let Regulus push him away. Losing him would never be worth an argument won. “I want to spend time with you.”
“Then get your own book.” Regulus muttered something else under his breath that Sirius didn’t care to look into.
He swallowed down a sigh and picked one at random off the shelf, then settled down on the couch opposite Regulus’ armchair. The words could have been in Portuguese, for all they registered in his mind. The edges were soft from many hands. It might have been Remus’, or from the secondhand bookstore in town. God, it could have been one of Sirius’ own favorites for all he knew. He was working on knowing more of those.
The color blue, but a specific shade.
Tater-tot casserole, preferably with meat, acceptable with just cheese.
Books with adventures, books he could run away in.
Poutine with extra gravy.
Henley shirts that stopped at his elbow.
Hoodies—not the zip-fronts—made of heavier fabric. The ones where Remus had fussed with the cuffs.
“What’s your book—”
The sudden snap of cover on page made him wince; an irritated grumble-sigh hung on its coattails as Regulus swept out of the room without a backward glance. Sirius’ stomach turned, and turned, and turned. He always fucked it up. He always tried too hard. He shut his book in silence and set it on the floor, and went to get his skates.
--
I’m not an infant. Bared teeth and clenched fists. A charge in the air, a snake ready to strike. And you are not my fucking mother.
Remus wrinkled his nose and scrubbed harder at the grout.
Nightmarish, is what it was. The summer had been sun-soaked and semi-charmed with only the awkwardness of getting-to-know-you’s to taint it. But that was Remus’ perfect wheelhouse—polite conversation, buttering up, small talk to ease Regulus into a world that wasn’t actively trying to shred him. It had all worked so well.
He didn’t know what went wrong. Worse, he didn’t know how to fix any of it. Regulus was constantly boiling with silent fury like a kettle about to blow and it was terrible. Every second Sirius and Regulus existed within each others’ eyeline was hell. And they were living together. For twelve more days.
If they all survived this, Remus was going to take himself out for a little treat. One that did not involve scrubbing the kitchen grout just to avoid running into either of the ticking time bombs.
Regulus’ hissing colliding with the low, furious timbre of Sirius’ voice was not something Remus wanted to experience again, in this life or the next. Nobody won. Everybody lost in one way or another. Sirius got angry and Regulus got angry and Sirius got defensive and Regulus got mean, flat-out and full-send. Sirius snapped back, Regulus stormed off, and Remus spent the better part of his night assuring Sirius he was not turning into his parents. Rinse, repeat, wish for death.
Commotion kicked up in the living room and went quiet in the same breath—Remus paused to watch Regulus stomp off with a book in one white-knuckled hand and listened carefully for the aftershocks.
The house inhaled with him. The office door closed hard. Sirius’ footsteps were rhythmic as a metronome all the way up the stairs and back down again—Remus bit his tongue when he saw the skates clenched in one hand—and remained that way until the basement door shut him out.
Then, and only then, did Remus let a quiet, “shit” slip through his teeth.
--
Pull back to the midline. Pull back to the midline. Watch, pull back, find your corridor, strike.
The puck skated past the goal without so much as a whisper of net. Sirius hardly heard it hit the boards.
--
Remus looked faintly ill when they arrived at practice; Pascal was grateful for the early warning to prepare himself for Sirius’ perma-scowl and overall vibe of ultimate distress. The change in the atmosphere nearly made his ears pop. Leo made a hasty retreat from the locker room after Kasey, looking as if he had taken psychic damage, and several others watched him leave with unbridled longing.
“On-ice in five,” Sirius said. Ordered. Everything about him looked incorrectly articulated. “We’re running drills, then doing dry lands.”
Not a soul dared to try the usual bitching and moaning. All cheerful conversation had met its abrupt end.
Cole lowered his head and slunk out the door like a stray bit of shadow. The rest of them followed suit within a minute or two, save for James, who steered Sirius into the ice room with a firm hand on his back.
Plastic buckles clinked softly in the empty space left. “They’re worse?”
Remus slumped forward and muffled a groan in both hands. “They’re going to fucking kill each other.”
“Any idea what happened?”
Remus spread his hands with a lost expression.
“Did this start when Regulus came home?”
“It’s just been the past three days.” Remus shook his head, leaning his elbows heavily on his knees with his pads half-done. “I can’t—Reg was fine when he got here. He was fine through Christmas. Sirius mentions we changed his sheets before he came home, and now he wants my head on a pike and my boyfriend to explode.”
Pascal picked at the peeling logo of his shorts. Sheets. What was so special about the sheets? “Were they new sheets?”
“Same ones he used all summer. I literally just washed them and put them back.”
“So…he didn’t like that you were in his space?” Remus half-shrugged, clearly frazzled by the mere memory. “You know, Adele hates it when we go into her room. Even to drop laundry off, or help her clean.”
“No, yeah, Jules is the same. That’s what started it.”
“Started…?” Understanding crept up his throat like battery acid. “He didn’t.”
“It was bad,” Remus said weakly.
“How bad?”
The laces of Remus’ skates dragged on the ground while he shuffled in his stall. The lines of his arms were rigid and upset; he scratched at the back of his wrist, curled over like he was trying to shield his middle. “His feet bled again.”
Pascal closed his eyes. He should have pushed harder against the basement rink eight years ago. He shouldn’t have let Sirius leave so soon.
He forgot, sometimes, how very alone Sirius had been.
“I fixed it,” Remus said after a minute. Of course you did. He sniffed, shaking his head like he could hear Pascal’s thoughts. “It wasn’t too bad. Blisters, mostly, some hotspots. Made him keep the bandaids on for practice. I hate—Dumo, I hate this. I hate living in it, I hate seeing them tear each other apart. It’s so quiet.”
“They need to stop,” Pascal agreed. Remus kept looking at him for—a solution, he realized. Terrible hope. Something desperate and fragile, a young man coming to a mentor for help he just…couldn’t give.
He looked away first. Remus’ exhale felt like a knife.
--
“It’s me, it’s me, it’s me, it’s me—”
“No, no, no,” Remus soothed somewhere in the catastrophe of the world.
Sirius spit, again, and pressed his hands over his eyes, again, and willed the bathroom floor to stop digging into his knees and just swallow him up already. His skin crawled and he wanted to scratch but he couldn’t take his hands away or the room would spin and tip him into nothingness.
Maybe he belonged there. But he had managed to hurt Regulus when he was a country away, so perhaps he wouldn’t even be safe in the ether.
Remus’ hand was cool on the small of his back as he frantically tried to keep his dinner down. He didn’t rub. He didn’t tap. He didn’t so much as twitch. Sirius listed to the side and flashed a hand out to steady himself. The pain of his wrist hitting the cabinet didn’t even register until Remus hissed in sympathy and took his weight in the bend of his arm.
“I am treating him just like they did,” Sirius rasped through the smoke pouring from inside him.
“No.” Remus was begging now. He sounded so tired. He was begging. The room swam in the kaleidoscope of suffering that he really should be used to by now, and Sirius pressed his elbows harder into the toilet seat as his ears began to ring.
You are not my mother.
Sirius gasped in a too-hot breath. It had been directed at Remus, not him. But.
But he was.
It was so sick and twisted and his stomach made sure to tell him that with a real-world example of both those words.
You are not my mother.
She wasn’t, either. Their nannies had come close. Sirius missed them sometimes (often) (aching) (with the hurt of a child).
Remus was not Regulus’ mother but he had been, in the same scream-worthy way he had been his father, too, and his brother. He couldn’t think too hard about how he had been the only one to cuddle Regulus without crying and fuck, there he went, Sirius the drama queen making the whole damn world about him.
“Okay, okay.” Arms came around him, easing the slicing pain of the sobs that caught him in fishhooks. The back of his hand hit the floor. His knees hurt like a bruise. His face was smushed against Remus’ chest and it really should have been uncomfortable. Remus made a noise of sympathy and gathered all the gross, slimy, bits of a Sirius-puddle into his arms because he was a saint. The patron saint of fucking messes, and Sirius was the messiest sinner of them all.
“I’m so horrible to him,” he sobbed, hitching and sticky. Probably incoherent. He mumbled. She hated it when he mumbled. “I’m so horrible.”
You are not my mother.
“It was me.” He gulped for air. Remus’ dizzying words fell quiet at the interruption. He added another note to his list of penance. “It was me, it was, I tried.”
“What did you try?” Remus’ fingertips brushed away a loose, sweaty lock and the sobs came harder after that, wracking him down to his organs, past the precious cradle of his ribs. A warm palm cupped the back of his head and Sirius heard a strangled noise interrupt his own endless babbling. He didn’t know he could make that sound. With the way his throat and body were angled against the unmovable pillar of Remus, though, it shouldn’t have surprised him.
“I was—I was his mother.” It was so hard to breathe through the gasping. “I didn’t know what I was doing but I was his mother but I won’t be her.”
“Oh, god.” Remus sounded weak for a saint. There went another beautiful thing, ruined in Sirius’ messy clumsy hands. And somehow, in the darkness, in the Blackness, a kiss nestled just near his temple.
He couldn’t help but go still, then limp, as all the fight and fear siphoned from his flooded lungs.
Remus breathed like he was going to speak several times before he did. “There are other ways.” His voice was heartbreak. Sirius closed his burning eyes. “Sirius—baby, you know my mom. You know Effie, and Celeste, and you know Lily.”
Lily. He knew Lily. Her green eyes, so much pain and regret. Don’t be like me, Pads. Her green eyes, the way she looked at Harry, the way they matched. Sirius had his mother’s eyes. Had she ever looked at him like that?
“There are other ways to be someone’s mother. And…” His hands stuttered, then began to move again, scritching the back of Sirius’ head. That feeling usually made him go comatose in their bed. “Regulus was trying to hurt me when he said that. You know that, right?”
I am not an infant. And you are not my fucking mother.
Remus kissed him again. The shell of his ear, this time. “It wasn’t about you. I promise.”
But it was. There on the bathroom floor, it was.
--
The woman was watching him with infuriating patience. Sometimes—more often than he cared to count—she would even look away to her clipboard or her phone, and that was even worse. Regulus knew how to be ignored. He fucking hated her nonchalant attention.
Either look at me and pay attention or ignore me properly, he thought with enough force that it should have beamed into her brain directly.
Heather chewed at the corner of her lip and checked her texts again.
“Aren’t you supposed to ask questions?” he finally muttered.
She looked up, milk-mild. “Are you ready to answer them?”
You can’t trick me that easily. “Are they worth my time?”
“I certainly think so.” She tilted her head back and forth for a moment. “But it’s not up to me to decide. That’s your choice.”
“So I can just walk out right now?”
“Sure.”
Regulus only let himself pause for a second before regaining his composure. “I’m pretty sure my brother would murder me if I did that.”
“Your brother didn’t set up this appointment.” A smile made her face even kinder, like a storybook bear. “And I’m not allowed to discuss my other patients’ homicidal tendencies. But yes, Mr. Black—”
“Don’t call me that or I’ll puke, I promise.”
“—yes, Regulus, you are welcome to leave whenever you feel like it. I can’t legally force you into therapy and I don’t particularly want to. If you would prefer to sit here quietly, we’ve still got twenty minutes left.”
He bit the inside of his cheek.
“I have a spare crossword,” she offered.
Gifts. Of course. What an awful woman. He plucked absently at the threads of the armrest and slouched into the too-squishy cushions.
Silence reigned supreme for another five minutes and twenty-four seconds before Heather stretched her wrists and smiled at him again. “It’s good to see you, Regulus.”
“You don’t have to say that,” he snorted.
“I know.”
“So don’t.”
“Alright.” She tapped the side of her thumb on her clipboard. “I’m glad you came back. Is that better?”
“Will you stop with the mind games, please?”
Heather’s eyes softened. His skin crawled. “Regulus, I don’t want you to be uncomfortable in my office. I would vastly prefer it if you did something you enjoy with this time, rather than forcing yourself to come and sit there and be miserable. I’ll sit with you if you’d like, but it seems like that’s not helping.”
His lip curled against his will. “So Sirius told you I’m miserable?”
“I haven’t spoken to Sirius lately.”
“You should. He’s a disaster.” Ignore that I’m a screaming teenage trainwreck.
“If he gets in touch with me, I’ll happily make time.”
“He won’t,” Regulus informed her. He wondered if she would stop him. Was there a point where he was no longer allowed to talk about her other patients? He already felt pathetic enough for refusing to use any therapist except the one Sirius had vouched for.
Heather hummed. “Guess that’s for him to know, and for me to find out.”
Push push push push push— “He’s been a mess. He’s doing that implosion thing he does when I’m mean to him. It’s like he thinks everyone in the whole world depends on him to be happy, and the second they’re not, it’s his fault.”
“And have you?”
“Have I what?”
“Been mean to him?”
“Oh, yeah, I’ve been terrible.” Regulus frowned slightly and sat up. “You know I’m not a nice person, don’t you? You should know that before we start anything.”
Heather seemed interested, but not confused. Infuriating. “Okay.”
“Sirius is the nice one.”
“Okay.” She nodded for a moment. “Why is Sirius nice, but you’re not?”
“You’re not—” He bit his tongue. Being mean to Heather was not what he came here to do. Wasting his time with someone who didn’t understand was not the point of this. “Sirius would have been much happier as a suburban family’s well-loved dog. He’s good like that.”
“Okay.”
“I was ignored for three-quarters of my childhood and have half a dozen complexes and attachment issues because of it. I am not a nice person at all, and so I take it out on Sirius because—I don’t know, I think it’s supposed to feel good, since he had everything and then he left me.” She was still looking at him. Mild and kind. Was everyone in Gryffindor obtuse enough to think he was kidding? “Heather, I am telling you that I’m petty and mean and use my older brother as an emotional punching bag because our parents fucked us up. There is nothing you can say to help me.”
“Supposed to feel good?”
Regulus blinked. “Pardon?”
“You said it was ‘supposed to feel good’ when you’re mean to your brother.” Heather rested her head on her hand. He wasn’t sure when she had put her clipboard aside. “Does it feel good?”
“Oh my god, no,” Regulus laughed hoarsely. “No, it feels like I’m the worst person alive. Why does that change anything?”
--
I just wanted them to like me.
It hadn’t even been about love, in the end. He had given up on that. Forget about pride—that was a lost cause. But he had yearned to be liked, to have a smile turned on him like the ones he only remembered in blurry dreams between sleep and wakefulness. Their father had light crow’s feet by his eyes. They were probably deeper by now. Their love was never going to happen but it really would have been enough to simply be liked. Regulus had been bright enough to stop hanging on to them far sooner; oh, yes, he had always been the smart one.
Heather had seemed sad when he said that. Sirius hated making her sad.
--
Pascal thought he knew where the precipice was. He thought they had more time to reel that celestial disaster back from the brink before they tipped over it, clawing at each other for grip and for hurt. Looking back, he felt like an utter fool for thinking he could have stopped them.
--
“You fucking liar!”
“I wouldn’t lie to you!”
“Yes you would, you always do that!”
“I—” Sirius’ mouth snapped closed; his jaw ticked with tension. “I wouldn’t—”
“You do,” Regulus insisted angrily. “Our whole childhood, and now this. I won’t fall for it anymore.”
“I told you, I didn’t go through your things—”
“Stop it.”
“It was just changing the goddamn sheets—”
“Stop it.”
“God forbid I want you to sleep on something clean!” Sirius shouted back.
Regulus flushed red, bright against his dark hair. “Don’t yell at me!”
“Are you—you started yelling first, you pain in the ass!”
“Oh, I’m just a pain in the ass now?”
Sirius threw his hands in the air with a furious noise and folded them at his nape, shaking his head. His stomach hurt and trembled. His throat was tight, and every swallow had to fight its way around an iron fist. The inside of his cheek was raw and tender from his teeth. “You’re fucking delusional.”
Remus straightened fast. “Woah—”
“I’m delusional?” Regulus laughed humorlessly, hysterically, all dry bonfire wit. “I’m delusional? I’m not the one that tried to start a brand-new family when the old one failed!”
The insides of his ribs were scorched black. “Don’t bring Remus into this—”
“I’m talking about him!” Regulus’ arm shot out. One pale, skeletal finger hovered in midair, an executioner’s axe. A hairline tremor shivered over his skin; his eyes gleamed.
Dumo had both hands on Sirius’ broken toaster, and both eyes locked on Regulus’ hand in shock.
“You had it all planned out, didn’t you?” Regulus’ face contorted. “From the second they called your name on the television. You were going to billet and you were going to go to him and fuck the rest of us, is that it?”
Sirius couldn’t feel his hands. I still don’t know what I did. I still don’t think she’s forgiven me. “Regulus, no.”
But Regulus just nodded, tears welling up despite the guillotine edge of his voice. “You did. And thank fuck for that, because then Logan came along and a brand-new brother just dropped himself in your lap without any effort at all. Your perfect parents, your perfect brother, your perfect, perfect life. How convenient.”
He shook his head. “No. No, it’s not like that.”
But.
But it was. A little bit, it was. Dumo wasn’t his choice but he was Sirius’ escape. And Logan…Logan had been so alone, so afraid, so young, hiding under his baseball caps like Regulus used to hide under his toques. Sirius had caught too many sidelong glances of dark curls and bitten back the wrong name those first few months.
Regulus could smell it on him. Could read Sirius’ guilt like a child’s book. His eye twitched. “I told you not to lie.”
“I didn’t mean to,” Sirius said hoarsely.
“I don’t care.”
“It was not my intent—”
“Fuck your intent.”
Lightning spit up inside him and he choked it down, tasting iron as it went. “Will you let me speak? Or are you going to stand there and yell until you feel better?”
Regulus’ face turned blotchy with rage. “Don’t patronize me.”
“Then stop acting like a child,” he snapped back.
“You sound like—”
“Do not.”
Something burnt coated his tongue as the lightning licked off it in a whipcrack and sparked between them. Regulus looked away, fists balled tight against his sides.
Sirius let the burning out on a controlled breath. “Do not bring them into this,” he continued carefully, even as a scream built under his lungs, kicking its feet and howling. “Do not bring her into this. I am telling you right now that you will not like how it goes for you.”
Regulus’ mouth twisted, petulant and bitter. “You’re really going to threaten me? Now?”
“I don’t threaten, Regulus. I win.”
“Because everything is a competition,” he sneered.
“Because you know better than to start that fight.” Sirius caught his gaze and held it with clenched, snarling teeth. Regulus knew better. Always the smart one, always levelheaded. Regulus, the wordsmith, and Sirius, blowing up the ground he stood on as long as he didn’t come out on the bottom. Locked jaw or locked antlers, dragging them both over the canyon edge before any thought of retreat. He had shouted himself voiceless before bending to their father. A simple locked door couldn’t block the endless screaming matches from Regulus’ memory.
“This isn’t a tantrum,” Regulus said at last.
The slavering dog in Sirius’ head sat back and eased its hold. He jerked his chin. “Then get to the point.”
“You left.”
“I was always going to leave.”
Regulus flinched, but to his credit, kept going. “You replaced us. Me.”
“Logan was never you.” Logan, young and scared, but not Regulus. Never Regulus. It had only ever taken a moment for Sirius to right himself, and less than that to be buried alive in guilt.
Regulus stared at the kitchen table. His nailbeds were white where he clutched the back of a chair. They’d have to get more iron into him while he was home; Sirius didn’t trust the university food. “You never came back.”
“For holidays—”
“You never came back,” Regulus repeated, louder. He blinked fast a few times, inhaling sharply. “You were never there for more than a day or two. You’d go dead the second we sat down together. You never—you never came back.”
“Regulus, that house was going to kill me.”
It came out too soft for the weight of it in the room. Regulus closed his eyes and leaned forward, stretching his arms with an unsteady exhale. Sirius kept his focus despite the building sting in his eyes but he could feel Dumo’s gaze on his neck, could hear Remus’ short inhale. There was no coming back from this. Ever onward, clawing his way out of the depths.
“One way or another, it was,” he continued quietly. “So, no. I didn’t go back. I won’t.”
The blur of Regulus tilted his face toward the ceiling with another shaky breath, still blinking fruitlessly as drops of mirrored light slipped down his cheeks. “Then how—?” He broke off and cleared his throat hard enough to make Sirius wince. “How could you leave me there?”
“I didn’t want to.”
It meant nothing; they both knew that. It still felt right to get it out there.
“I thought you’d come back,” Regulus said. “I thought you’d try. Once—once you had your first paycheck, or something.”
It hurt so much more to hear old, broken hope than anger. “They knew where I lived.”
“Then we’d move.” We. A child’s daydream. They made me hate you, but I never did. A phone number memorized for six and a half years. “We’d go somewhere else.” Regulus ran his sleeve under his nose and shook his head. “I was so alone. I don’t—” He looked up and immediately, his lip curled in disgust. “Oh, god, don’t look at me like that.”
“Reg—”
“Like a fucking puppy, merde.” He yanked his sleeves down over his hands and scrubbed viciously at his face, lingering over his eyes a second longer before letting them dangle at his sides again. He sniffled, then did a double-take when he saw Remus and Dumo on the other side of the room. “Why are you still here?”
“Um.” Remus glanced over at Sirius, but he had nothing to offer. “It…felt wrong to leave.”
Regulus rolled his eyes, though the effect was dampened by his red cheeks and slight pout. “You are all so codependent.”
“Don’t be mean,” Sirius chided instinctively.
“Don’t tell me what to do.” Regulus gave him a quick up-and-down look. “We’re both ugly criers. Shit. Yell at me again.”
“…no?”
“Just do it, it’ll make me feel better.”
“I’m not going to yell at you.”
“Don’t make me insult you more. My throat hurts.”
“Do you want a hug?”
“No.” They stood in silence for another fifteen seconds. Wool socks scuffed on the floor. Regulus gnawed at the inside of his lip, then stepped around the side of the table an inch. “If it’ll make you feel better.”
--
He was over six feet tall, now. His hockey muscle had yet to fade. He felt—
Small. He felt safe. A shudder ran down his aching back. It had been so long since he felt safe.
“Desolé.” Sirius’ voice vibrated in the burrow of his chest and Regulus pressed his face to it as hard as he could. “Desolé, mon etoile.”
Tears snuck up on him in bursts; he pushed closer, closer, tucking his arms between them and shuffling forward until he could stand on the front of Sirius’ stupid slippers and let the cold floor fall away. He was tired of drowning, but it was hard to remember how to let the water out.
Sirius sniffed above him. The kiss to the top of his head was more of a hard bump than anything else. His arms were tight and warm around Regulus’ back, one palm cupping the back of his head. “I never forgot you.”
“Je sais,” Regulus croaked back.
“I never forgot you.”
Don’t, don’t, don’t. He coughed to clear the brackish muck from his lungs. He wasn’t pretty like this, and he knew it. But neither was Sirius, so maybe that was okay. Just this once. He could be held like a child, just this once. It was a long time before they spoke again.
“I don’t want to see Heather anymore.” He breathed in Sirius’ laundry soap and the same deodorant they had both been wearing for years. The rushing flood in his head had become a stream, had become a trickle. His heartbeat pulsed behind his eye. “I want—I want to see someone else.”
Sirius’ shoulders relaxed enough that he could feel each muscle release. “Good.”
“I still haven’t told my friends about—the everything.” He felt Sirius nod and gathered two fistfuls of his hoodie. “I want to stay at school.”
“D’accord.”
“What if they find out?” He held on tighter, pressed his face to Sirius’ calm heart. “What happens when they find out how horrible I am?”
Sirius huffed. “You’re not horrible.”
“I am.” That was the deal. He was the villain so Sirius could be the hero. He was the junkyard. Spare parts to be hosed off and trotted out when they needed him.
“Regulus, you’re nineteen.”
He frowned. “What does that have to do with anything?”
“Everyone’s horrible at nineteen.”
“What if I’m…” He wracked his brain for something smart. It blew a raspberry at him and fucked off back to sleep. “…extra horrible?”
Sirius sighed, scratching lightly behind his ears. Regulus felt his eyelids droop against his will. “If you turn out to be extra horrible by—I don’t know, 21, we’ll talk.”
“What if they fucked us both up too bad?”
He winced—Sirius’ steady motions stuttered briefly. He hadn’t meant to let that one slither out from its careful cage. That was a thought for sleepless nights in a cold hotel bed and watching the sun rise in a strange city through dry, tired eyes. When his hands were blistered and bleeding, he’d wonder whether that Black blood could ever really be gone from him.
Sirius’ head was a gentle pressure on his own. “Then it’s us against the world, isn’t it?”
--
Gryffindor airport was quiet at 7 in the morning. Dumo stifled a yawn in the back of his hand as he passed the rolling suitcase to a boy that was far too awake for the early hour, in his opinion. Youths.
“You have everything?” Sirius checked. “You’ll be safe?”
“I’m literally fine.” Regulus arched a brow. “And less than four hours away, if you speed.”
“You’ll call when you land.”
“I’ll text.”
Sirius wrinkled his nose. “If you don’t, I’m filing a missing person report.”
Regulus turned to Remus. “Can you keep him on a leash? Or just sedate him?”
“You think I haven’t tried?” Remus laughed.
Sirius fixed them both with a weak scowl. “Will you just get on the plane?”
“I thought you wanted me to stay.”
“I want you—” Sirius took Regulus by the shoulders and turned him around with a firm grip. “—to have fun and live life and not die. The bar is on the ground. Do not dig under it.”
“Killjoy.”
“Pest.” Sirius kissed the top of his head. “Fly safe. Text.”
“Wait until I’m on the place before you start crying. I don’t want your gross emotions all over me.”
“Well, we can’t disturb your delicate sensibilities.”
“Sirius?”
“Reg.”
Regulus paused, laden with his duffel and rolling bag, and kicked the toe of Sirius’ sneaker lightly. “Love you.”
Sirius’ smile was close-lipped and small and brighter than the rising sun outside the massive bay windows. He kicked him back, even more gently. “Get on your plane.”

James' arms around her was everything Y/N had ever wanted and more. They were strong, made her feel safe and secure. "What's your name, soldier?" She asked, looking up at him. Her face was almost in the crook of his neck, he was everything she could smell.
"James, your highness."
"None of that, please," she said, closing her eyes. "I'm just Y/N."
James smiled down at her. "Okay Just Y/N. I'll have to get you back on your horse before we reach the castle," he said.
"Naturally."
If  Y/N was caught like this, snuggling into the arms of her fiancés knight, war could be launched. Her kingdom couldn't handle war right now; all the threats of war and each time she was kidnapped had put too much stress on her parents. It was the whole reason she was getting married off.
Outside of the stable gates James jumped from Prongs. He helped Y/N back onto her horse  and grabbed both of their reins, leading them through the gates. “You are a kind man,” said Y/N, looking down at her hands.
James stopped outside of the stable and bowed to Y/N. It was just an act now, she hoped, but she couldn’t be sure. James was polite and formal as he pointed Y/N back towards the castle, and walked the horses back to their stables without another word.
Picking up her skirts Y/N ran back into the castle. “Sir James has returned!” She heard a knight call as she ducked behind an alcove. Several knights, all in armour that was for more than just daywear, rushed past her, their armour clanking together. As soon as they passed Y/N left the safety of the alcove and walked through the castle, avoiding all staff.
Once Y/N had made it back to her room, she slumped down against the door and let out a breath. “The princess is missing!” She heard a knight cry as they ran past her door. Chuckling to herself Y/N jumped onto her bed and laid back. This was how she kept herself entertained at home, causing chaos for the staff in the castle. Of course, this time she didn’t mean to cause that chaos, but she wasn’t going to put a stop to it.
When somebody cleared their throat, Y/Nsat up with a gasp. She couldn’t see their face, just the side profile of the person sitting by the fire in her bedroom with their chair turned away from her. “Can I help you,” she spat, sitting straighter.
They stood, and Y/N let out a gasp. Prince Remus stood by her fireplace, leaning against the mantle. A shiver moved down Y/N’s spine. She didn’t get a proper look at him at dinner, too busy looking at his knights, but he was gorgeous. And oh so intimidating. She didn’t know why his face was covered in scars, but in the light of the fire, it made him look dangerous. Y/N couldn’t help the feeling that pooled in the pit of her stomach.
“Did you have fun on your ride with Sir James?” Asked Remus, his face like stone. When he was king and Y/N his queen she’d have a statue erected of him. It would be a perfect replica, standing tall in the square. Y/N shook her head, banishing those thoughts.
Standing up and smoothing out her skirts, Y/N nodded her head. “Yes, it was very pleasant.”
“Drop the shit,” he barked as he turned around. Y/N jumped back, falling against her bed. “I saw the way you were looking at him and Sirius and I’m not having you ruin this wedding.”
Y/N frowned. “You actually want to get married to me?”
“Well, yes. It would make my mother and father happy.” And that was most important to him. Oh, and if he married Y/N he’d be free to pursue his boys. He sat beside Y/N. “And I need an heir, someone to take care of the kingdom after I’m gone.”
Sighing, Y/N laid back on her bed and linked her fingers together on her stomach. “I know it seems impossible because of our stations, but have you ever wanted to get married for more than political alliances and producing an heir? Have you ever wanted to get married for love?”
“We don’t get love,” Remus replied.
Y/N took a calculated risk. She was quiet for a second, staring at him. “We could try.”
That was how they ended up chest to chest on Y/Ns bed, her hands tangled in his hair as they kissed. It was hot and heavy, tongues and teeth clashing. His hand was on her cheek, gently pushing her away. “Wow, Princess,” he whispered, his eyes closed and her forehead against hers.
"What," she said, smiling. Remus didn't know she could do that.
Kissing her forehead, Remus stood up. "This still isn't love," he said and readjusted his shirt.
Y/N laid down and propped her head up with her hand. “Tomorrow then. Take me out to the gardens, let’s have tea, get to know each other. Maybe bring your knights along.”
It was supposed to be a joke, but with the way Remus’ eyes darkened, Y/N fell silent. She didn’t laugh like she had intended to, not with the way he was looking at her. That feeling returned to her stomach as he walked back over to her, taking long strides.
He suddenly loomed over her, her arms pinned over her head. “Say that again, Princess,” he growled, his breath fanning across her cheek. It was a dare, and Y/N wasn’t going to take the bait. She whimpered as he leaned down and kissed her neck.
“Please, my prince. Please.”
But Remus let go of her and stood up straight. He cleared his throat and straightened up his clothing. “Dress for walking tomorrow. We’ll be taking a walk through the garden for some tea,” he said and walked out of the room like nothing had happened.
Y/N had to just lay there for a minute. And after that minute, Lily walked back into the room. “I am so sorry Princess! I would never have left you but Prince Remus insisted.”
“It’s okay, Lily. Just help me get ready for bed.”
***
Y/N tossed and turned in her bed that night. When she couldn’t sleep at first, she put it down to the unfamiliar place she was in. But that wasn’t it.
The Lake was bathed in moonlight. There were three figures on the other side of the lake, all tall in billowy white shirts. Their faces were familiar, but Y/N couldn’t place them. She herself was in a long white dress, her bare feet cold in the grass.
Although the tall figures said nothing, Y/N was still beckoned towards them. She took a deep breath and started running across the water, leaving ripples in her wake. As she got closer to the other side of the lake the faces became increasingly familiar.
She spotted Sirius first. He reached his hand towards her as she got closer and pulled her into him. He kissed her briefly before passing her to the next person.
James was next. He held her tightly in his strong arms and kissed her forehead. “There you are, Just Y/N he whispered, his fingers dancing up and down her back. James dipped his head down and kissed her lips. It was quick but breathtaking.
And then he passed her to the last person. Prince Remus. “Hello Princess,” he said simply. Then he kissed her, his kisses bruising. His fingers pushed at her dress as she tugged on the strings attached to his shirt. “We want you.”
“I want you too,” she whispered back.
Suddenly Sirius was behind her, unlacing the ribbon holding her dress together. He kissed down her back as he went. Remus pushed the dress further down her shoulders as James leaned over and kissed her tenderly. His kisses were slow and sweet but they still made Y/N whimper.
Once she was stripped down to nothing, her nipples pebbling against the cold, Sirius took off his own shirt. His skin was warm against her own but she still shivered, if only just from his touch.
Before they could lay her down and make her feel pleasure beyond her wildest dreams, Y/N woke up with a start. She was breathing heavily, her chemise bunched around her hips. “Wow.”

Thank you so much for emphasizing the importance of the platonic friendship between the Marauders! I have always been torn about Wolfstar because while they do make sense in a way and unlike some other ships *cough* Jegulus* there actually have been hints about them in canon. But since we know that in the 1st wizarding war Sirius and Remus were mistrusting each other, I feel like the only way they could have happened was during Hogwarts times and then had a bad break up in 7th year. But somehow I could never imagine how that could have happened without the deep, beautiful platonic relationship that defined the Marauders suffering from it. There would have been so much drama and Pete and James would have constantly been caught in the middle. Same with Jegulus. Dating a best friends sibling is always problematic, but since Sirius and Reg had such a difficult relationship already, James dating his actual brother would have ruined this found brotherhood between James and Sirius
I'm gonna try to not write an essay response to this (lol). On top of being the number one fan of platonic Marauders friendship, I really struggle to see Sirius in a relationship. I could actually get on board with post-POA Wolfstar, but the school years are hard for me because of all we see during the war.
First off, I think the relationships you grow up around have an immense impact on you as a person. So I think Sirius would not see marriage as a union of love, but one of duty, a requirement to continue the bloodline and all of the "power" that came with that. Ignoring that he'd probably reject that notion while he was rejecting everything about his birth family's lifestyle, I just don't see him having interest in it. I think partly because it was presented to him as transactional ("You will marry a girl of worthy blood status and sire an heir"), but also because we see a restless energy in Sirius and marriage would be just another thing to tie him down when he sought freedom. This is a dude who'd rather have lived in a cave eating rats than return to his childhood home even years later. He charmed a motorbike to fly. He wanted to be free to be himself, not who he was born and raised to be.
Obviously this is painting with a broad brushstroke. After all, Sirius could absolutely date without marriage as the endgame but I just don't see him simping or fawning over another person, whether that be Remus or anyone else (I think back to SWM where the girl was eying him and he couldn't give two shits about it. He was looking for James!). I consider Sirius to be aromantic or just outright uninterested in making a romantic connection. Boy really needed some counseling and healthy mentorship in his life, and while I do think he saw that with the Potter family dynamic (familial and romantic), I'm not sure at 16 that would have been enough to ready him to be anyone's partner.
Anyway. Give me all of the platonic ride-or-die Prongsfoot. The boys who'd go to the ends of the earth and back for each other. If you read my works I'm sure this comes as no surprise. And just to add: I do see how people find it compelling to work through the drama of a Wolfstar breakup or the dating best friend's brother dynamic in J*gulus, but I'm generally not sold on it and not particularly interested in it for these characters.

What do you think was the immediate aftermath to the “Prank”? I actually do think Sirius was remorseful for what he did at the time(I think his attitude in PoA could be explained by how he was in Azkaban all those years, had to survive on very little, and was just not in a good place to process his past properly at the time. And he does acknowledge that he acted poorly during SWM, so I feel like with time he would realize that he could’ve handled those situations better- even if Snape could be a dick lol. At a certain point someone has to take the high road XD), but I think it still would have taken a while for Remus to forgive him or for the group to go back to the way it was. But if I’m being honest, I feel like the group never really went back to the way it was when we consider how both Remus and Sirius thought the other was a spy :/. I also think that James would have been put in a hard spot, because he’s incredibly loyal to his friends, and Sirius is(let’s face it lol) his favorite, but this “prank” could have gone very wrong in so many different ways and I feel that James may have been able to recognize more than Sirius at first.
(I also don’t understand why JKR would place SWM after “The Prank” because why on earth would James and Sirius continue to antagonize Snape to that extent when he now knows one of their best friend’s deepest and darkest secret(and there couldn’t have been anything magical keeping Snape from saying anything, seeing as he gives away the secret in Book 3)? But I digress lol(although I will say that one minor change I make for myself is imagining the Prank as happening after SWM since that makes more sense to me)
I have so many thoughts on “The Prank” mainly because while I love Sirius(and I do think his good qualities outweigh his bad ones), this situation showcases one of his biggest flaws(he can be reckless to the point where other people can/are at the risk of getting seriously hurt or worse) and I just find it really interesting to explore that and how it would have affected the Marauders and their dynamic at the time
Oooh boy do I have THOUGHTS about the Prank and SWM. I'm actually very okay with SWM happening after the Prank. It shows that James and Sirius took a LONG time to grow and were still dicks late into their fifth year. But let's get to the fun!
Immediate aftermath of the Prank:
I wholeheartedly agree that the group was never the same after the Prank. I think the Marauders were always on thin ice or precarious ground, and it was only because of James that they were all together. Sirius and James were like magnets for each other. James picked up the underdog, Remus, and Remus brought in the super underdog, Peter. That's not to say that Sirius didn't care for Remus and Peter, but everything in canon suggests that Sirius was a Prongs fangirl, not a Moony or Wormtail fangirl.
But let's get to the Prank. Snape thought something was up with Lupin. I believe Sirius thought one of two things: 1) fuck around and find out, and 2) he's not actually stupid enough to go whomping willow/werewolf hunting. There is definitely some blame on Severus for following through, but it's more on Sirius for underestimating Severus and potentially ruining Remus's life. Because it was James who pulled Severus back, Sirius probably felt more remorse than had it been someone else.
I believe that after the Prank, Remus's trust in Sirius was irrevocably changed. I think that Remus implicitly trusted Sirius before, but after the Prank, the nature of the friendship changed. I imagine that Remus didn't change much outwardly. He's a coward at heart and didn't want to rock the boat. But the thing is, Sirius isn't stupid. He almost certainly noticed a change in Remus's behavior. Remus probably went more passive-aggressive, and that laid the foundation for Sirius believing Remus to be the spy later, because of his behavior change. For Remus, it's the same thing, because of Sirius's capacity to use him for a cruel prank.
I do think that they were friends and remained friendly. James was the foundation for their friendship, and as long as James was alive and friendly with both, they would remain friends. However, with more people dying, Remus off with werewolves and Sirius doing who-knows-what, it would make sense for Sirius to think that Remus was a spy and vice versa. When Halloween '81 happened and the Potters were killed, Remus was probably shocked but not surprised. Sirius was capable of darkness.
And THIS is why I'm very okay with the Prank happening before SWM. Imagine Remus thinking the same thing during SWM - 'guys, please stop antagonizing him' - and James and Sirius continue antagonizing Severus for fun, because they're bored. This is abundant proof that Sirius still had a lot of growing up to do, as did James. Imagine Remus after the Potters die, thinking how Sirius could do this?, but then being reminded of SWM, where Sirius continued to play with his food, so to speak. Imagine Remus thinking it impossible for Sirius to turn his back on his friends, but after Peter is 'killed', and Remus was almost exposed in the Prank, that means the only person left for Sirius to betray was James. With that track record, Remus could've very well thought Sirius was the traitor.
I love Sirius as well. My man, like Remus, has layers. Their friendship in later years - post-Azkaban - was cobbled together by shared memories of James and years of trauma/betrayal by one another and Peter. At this point I imagine a friendship of convenience - they're friends because few people understand the trauma they went through, but they're never going to be BFFs the way that James and Sirius were. If Sirius is fire, James is the sunshine that fuels him, while Remus is a moldy wet log of a human being.
As always @puppyduckster you've given me tremendous food for thought and provided excellent insight on the characters we so love.

Hi beautiful💕 Thank you so much for participating! I had a great time writing this one and I think it really fitted Remus perfectly! I hope you like it💜
The Kiss || Remus Lupin x Reader
Summary: You always had feelings for Remus, but you kept it a secret for fear of ruining your friendship. That is until one rainy Saturday night when everything changes.
Warnings: mutual pining, fluff, attempt at humor
Word count: 1600
Tumblr media
It was a rainy Saturday night, the cold autumn wind was shaking the tops of the trees making the branches crash against the windows of the castle. It was the perfect weather to curl up under a blanket to read in front of the warmth of the fireplace. And that was exactly what you wanted to do, just not in your dorm room.
You went down to the common room hoping to meet Remus there. You knew he liked to stay up late finishing homework or reading a book. He enjoyed the quiet of the night, the common room was usually empty and if James and Sirius weren't around it was a perfect place to relax for a while. You also enjoyed the peace that filled the Gryffindor tower at that hour, that was something you and Remus had in common, but that night it wasn't peace and quiet that you were looking for. There was something you actually enjoyed more than having the Gryffindor common room all to yourself and that was Remus' company.
You had been friends since first year and you had had a crush on him since third year. Now you were in your sixth year at Hogwarts and it was getting harder and harder to hide your feelings. You had decided to tell him the truth, promising yourself that you wouldn't let the year end without letting him know how you really felt about him. It sounded like a great idea in your mind, but it didn't turn out to be as simple as you initially thought.
Every time you were about to confess the truth to him you ended up panicking, your mind went blank and the words got stuck in your throat. So far you had tried on four different occasions, all resulting in failure. So after failure number four you decided it would be best to wait and gather the courage you so evidently lacked. That was the reason you were spending so much time with Remus and it was also the reason you had gone down to the Gryffindor common room hoping to find him.
You smiled when you found him settled on the couch in front of the fireplace. He had a book in his hands, his long, slender fingers tracing the pages as he read. You admired him from the bottom of the stairs for a few seconds, loving the way the dim candlelight and the fire in the fireplace illuminated his figure. He looked ethereal and you wanted nothing more than to run into his arms and lose yourself in his lips. But you knew you couldn't, so you snapped out of your trance and approached him with a warm smile on your lips.
"Want some company?" Remus looked up from his book, surprised to see you there as he hadn't heard you come in. He nodded his head slightly giving you a smile and you plopped down on the couch, curling up next to him as you stretched the blanket you had brought over your legs and his. Remus welcomed your closeness, leaning against the back of the couch and stretching his arm out to wrap it around your shoulders.
It wasn't an uncommon thing for you to be this close, especially when you were alone and didn't have to fear the teasing of your friends. You hugged and held hands all the time, even before you developed a crush on him, and it was one of your favorite things about your friendship —and one of the things you most feared losing if you confessed the truth to him.
"What are you reading?" you asked curiously, letting your head rest on his shoulder. The musky scent of his cologne invaded your nostrils and you allowed yourself to get lost for a moment in the warm feeling it aroused inside you. It was your favorite scent in the world because it was a scent you identified as the essence of Remus, the essence of love.
Remus opened his mouth to answer you, but before the words could leave his mouth he was interrupted by the laughter of his friends entering through the portrait into the common room.
"Moony! There you are!" Sirius exclaimed the moment his eyes fell upon his figure.
"Are we interrupting something?" James asked in a suggestive tone as he noticed how close you were to each other, looking at you with a raised eyebrow.
"James!" Lily elbowed him to shut him up, but it was too late, his teasing comment had already caused you two to move a couple of inches apart.
"We were just talking," you muttered in embarrassment, feeling the blood in your body rush up to your cheeks.
"Mind if we join you guys?" Sirius said to tease you. It was obvious that you guys wanted to be alone, everyone already knew that you guys liked each other and took advantage of every second alone you had to cuddle, chatting about who knows what. Sirius couldn't understand how you two weren't dating yet.  He found it hard to believe that two of the brightest minds in Gryffindor were so stupid in the love department.
"Sure," Remus stated, gesturing to the armchairs in front of his for his friends to sit in.
"He's just joking. We're all really tired and we want to go to bed, right guys?" Lily interjected, very obviously forcing them to leave you guys alone.
"I'm not tired," Peter said, failing to take Lily's hint.
"Yes you are, Wormy. Let's go!"
Lily pushed the three young men up the stairs, wishing you goodnight in a louder voice than usual in an attempt to cover James and Sirius' comments.
"How many times do I have to tell you to leave them alone?" she scolded them in a whispered shout.
"We were just trying to give them a little push," James defended himself and the last thing you and Remus heard before they disappeared up the stairs were James' complaints of pain after Lily hit him once more on the shoulder to shut him up.
You remained silent for a few seconds. The mood was clearly broken. Where once there was quiet and comfort now there was tension and awkwardness. After your friends' comments you were painfully aware of your feelings and how obvious you were about it. You wanted to curl into a ball and wrap yourself in the blanket that rested on your legs until you disappeared, feeling the weight of embarrassment on your chest. It was clear you couldn't hold a normal conversation with Remus after that.
"Well, I'm gonna call it a day. I'm a little tired too." You said, looking for any excuse to get out of there. It was a stupid one given that you had just gotten there, but you hoped he wouldn't notice.
Remus wanted to ask you to stay with him a little while longer, but he chickened out at the last second. "Alright, good night" he said instead, immediately regretting it as soon as you got up and he stopped feeling the warmth of your body against his.
When you turned to look at him to wish him good night your eyes were lost in the beauty of his face. His eyes were closed, his head leaned back against the back of the couch exposing his long neck. Your eyes followed the path of the veins that stood out on his pale skin. Slowly your gaze moved up his jaw and stopped on his lips, admiring their rosy tint in the candlelight.
An urgent need to kiss him came over you at that moment and your lips crashed against his before you realized what you were doing. It was a quick kiss. A timid brushing of lips product of an impulsive decision. But it was still enough to awaken butterflies in your stomach that fluttered happily as you finally knew the softness of Remus' lips.
"What was that for?" he asked when they broke apart, stunned but in complete bliss from the kiss you had just shared. He would be lying if he said he hadn't dreamed of feeling your lips on his in the past. It was all I could think about every time I held you close.
"I just... wanted to see what it was like." you said shrugging your shoulders with feigned innocence.
"What was it like?" he wanted to know, curious to find out if you felt the same tingling on his lips that he did.
"You were there!" you laughed not knowing how to answer his question. You didn't have the words to properly describe how you felt at that moment and suspected you would need a little more time to process it before you could put it into words.
"I wasn't ready for it!" he complained half jokingly and half seriously.
"What would you have done differently?"
"I don't know, something with my lips?" Your kiss had taken him by surprise. It had been so sudden and quick that Remus hadn't had time to process the situation in time to be able to reciprocate you as he should have. He had enjoyed it anyway, he only wished he could have done more than just stand there while he accepted your kiss.
"Maybe we can try that next time."
"Next time?" Was there going to be a next time?
You let out a giggle at his disbelief, finding adorable the way he looked at you with big eyes full of excitement. "Goodnight Remus," you said, giving him a kiss on the cheek before disappearing up the stairs.

harry james potter hc list i've compiled over a week or two---
part one??
-can fall asleep anywhere. literally. people have found him sleeping in the weirdest places around the castle 24/7 and the first years are always confused but everyone else is like "yeah no just leave him be, he's got a lot of shit going on."
-when sirius told him that harry could live with him if he wanted to, harry was so exited and nervous and like overwhelmed that on the way back to the castle he puked in a bush (he makes ron and hermione swear to never mention it to anyone ever)
-his memory is actually so shit, and he has no clue as to why it is. you tell him anything and he will immediately ask you "wait say that again"
-when remus was his professor, he would wait after class and risk being late because he knew remus would give him one of those bite sized chocolates he always has in his pockets.
-somtime he explores the castle at night when he gets nervous about the O.W.L.S, and it calms him down
-he once had to send hedwig out to get him quills because he always looses them and he apologized so many times to her because of how she was going to have to,, "carry her family's plucked out feathers" back to him.
-he can walk in heels effortlessly and he has no clue how
-his favorite color is actually purple but he tells everyone it's red
-he hates socks. despises them. will actually refuse to wear them in his shoes no matter how hard hermione begs him to.
-he still has the sweater molly made for him in his first year because that was the first christmas present he had ever gotten
-is secretly is a cat person but can't find it in himself to tell sirius
-he hates holidays, and despises halloween the most. he doesn't tell remus and sirius though because he knows that was the last week of their lives that everything was ok for them and everyone was alive and happy, and he'd feel horrible ruining that for them.
-goes on "dates" with luna in muggle restaurants just to "propose" to her so they can get free cake. they have hit at least 23 places with this method and it hasn't once failed.
-didn't know how to read very well until hermione taught him in 2nd year
-ron and him are literally the most homoromantic best friends out there and half the school is convinced their dating
-has shaky hands and can't tie his shoes that well
-is quite literally the casanova of griffindor tower and remus finds this hilarious
-grows his hair out to his shoulders and eventually cuts it all off when he's 18.
-he asks hermione how to shave because he has to much pride to ask remus or sirus
-sirius ties his tie for him because no matter how hard he trys he just can't get it right. sirius thinks of his brother every time he does this for him, and when harry grew his hair out and it looked almost identical to regulus's, he cryed.
-harry has such a horrible sleeping schedule that somtimes he just passes out and literally had no control over it. like one moment he's awake and the next hes on the floor snoring.
-stayed up with ron for like 4 hours in his first year one night making a cool looking signature for himself because so many ppl were asking for it
-buys ron anything he wants off the trolly and refuses to let him feel bad for it because it's "only twice a year ron" and "let me spoil my best mate alright?"
-thought had a crush on hermione in first year because he had those "butterflies" that everyone always talks about, but it turned out that he was just going to be sick.
-has the immune system of the average toddler. bro breaths and hes like dead on the common room couch for 3 days under mrs. weasleys hand made quilt, being hand fed soup
-has said "fuck it, we ball" on one to many occasions.
-knows a surprising amount of french because of a french-english/english-french dictionary he found in the closet he use to sleep in.
-is the kind of person to say "whoopsies" when he does literally anything
-anytime he drops somthing he says "that wasn't me"
-has no concept of time. what's the day? he has no clue. time? month? what even are those. he just guesses when he writes the date on his papers.
-prefers the blue gatorade to the red one
-he hates carbonated drinks. literally cant stand them.
i might post a part two if anyone wants it

“I mean, our friendship was so great,” Remus continues. “But then we had to cross that line and everything turned sour.”
James nods. “I have to be honest, you were awful as a couple, and you’re possibly even worse broken up.”
Sirius crosses his arms over his chest. “Well, we can’t go back in time.”
“No, you can’t,” James agrees. “So you’ve got to move forward somehow.”
Now that Remus and Sirius’ relationship has crashed and burnt, they have to somehow find a way to co-exist, if only for the sake their friends.
(Spoiler: Break-Up and Make-Up, with a Happy Ending! Actually happy, I promise!)
Somewhere Along the Way
The doorbell rings.
James puts down his mug with well-deserved coffee, and gets up to open the door.
Sirius immediately walks past him into the apartment, like he always does. Inside, he turns around to face James. “I’m sorry for ruining your party,” he blurts out, not meeting James’ eyes.
James doesn’t really know what to say. He can’t deny it, Sirius did ruin his party. But Sirius looks so sad, so lost, standing there in his kitchen, that James can’t really do anything other than wrap his brother into a hug.
“I know you didn’t mean to.”
“I shouldn’t have gotten angry,” Sirius says, once James has sat him down at the kitchen table with his own mug of coffee. “I just felt so hurt, and then he started crying, and I immediately felt sorry for him, and I hated that. I’m entitled to feel hurt! Can’t he just let me have that that? Without making me feel guilty? It frustrated me, and I took it out on him.”
“Entitled to feel hurt?” James asks.
“He broke up with me!”
Technically true, but quite an oversimplification. James has heard what happened that night from both sides.
An argument, Sirius storming off and staying out all night, Remus ignoring him the next morning, Sirius pushing and pushing, and eventually, Remus snapping and saying those final words: I can’t do this anymore
There was no going back from there, and the sad thing is, that was probably for the best.
James shakes his head. “Regardless, you know he only started crying because he saw you being so upset.”
Sirius sighs. “I suppose I shouldn’t have reacted like that in the first place. I just can’t help letting it get to me, you know? Seeing him flirt with Benjy.”
“Mate, they were just talking, and you know how Benjy is. He’s flirtatious by default.” Come to think of it, if there’s anyone James would like an apology from, it’s Benjy bloody Fenwick. What was he thinking, flirting with Remus while Sirius was right there, while things between them are still so precarious?
The doorbell rings again.
James leaves Sirius to stare dejectedly into his coffee as he goes to open the door.
“Hi Jamie,” Remus smiles carrying a box of James’ favourite muffins. “I came to apologize for what happened yesterday.”
“James, what’s-” Sirius appears behind him. “Oh.”
“Oh.”
After being frozen in place for a moment, Remus turns to walk away. “I’m sorry, I’ll come back another time, I-”
James grabs his arm. “No, you stay! Both of you came to apologize to me, right? Well, you can make it up to me by sitting down and talking about this!”
That’s how James has both Sirius and Remus sitting at his kitchen table, both looking extremely uncomfortable, both pointedly not looking at each other.
“I know we can’t just fix this,” James begins. “But we need to come to some sort of resolution! Every dinner, party, or gathering of some sort we’ve had lately has ended with the two of you yelling at each other, or crying, or, most of the time, both. Did you know that Frank and Alice want to cancel their engagement party, just because you two can’t be in the same room together anymore, and no one wants to choose between you?”
They both look very much embarrassed. Sirius’ cheeks are red and Remus is fiddling with his sleeve.
“We never should’ve dated!” Remus suddenly blurts out.
“Of course you’d think I was nothing but a mistake,” Sirius spits, still not looking at Remus.
“Sirius,” James says patiently. “We need to talk open and honest about this. You’re allowed to feel every emotion you’re feeling, but no snapping at each other. Give each other space to speak.”
Sirius’ face flushes even more as he gives a small nod.
“So you’ve got to move forward somehow. Fact is, you did become a couple, so maybe it’s good to remember why you decided to start dating?”
“I loved him,” Remus simply replies.
James looks over at Sirius. “Yeah,” Sirius’ voice sounds hoarse and he scrapes his throat. “I loved him.”
James chuckles softly. “As the person who had to witness you two pining after each other, I can attest to that. You did love each other.” He shakes his head. “You loved each other like crazy. So why wasn’t it enough?”
“I just wasn’t what Remus was looking for,” Sirius says.
At the same time, Remus says “I couldn’t give Sirius what he needed.”
They both whip their heads around and stare at each other. It’s the first time they’ve looked at each other since getting here, so James considers it progress.
“Sirius, you first.”
“I mean, Remus is like... You know what Remus is like! He’s unlike anyone I know. He knows the works of ancient philosophers, reads classical literature, watches Art House Films, and his favourite Saturday night activity is sitting at home on the couch reading poetry. I’m not like that! I can’t tell the difference between the works from Plato and Aristotle, I can’t recite the works of Thomas Wyatt, I don’t see a deeper meaning in some film in a language I don’t speak.”
“I never asked you to!” Remus exclaims. “I never expected you to!” He turns to James. “I didn’t!”
“But every time I offered watch one of those movies together, asked you to read to me out of one of your poetry books, wanted to stay in with you to read books curled up on the couch together, you told me not to bother,” Sirius argues, and James can hear in his voice how deep that still runs.
“Because that’s not you!” Remus exclaims. “You’re not the ‘stay at home and read a book’-type of person. You’re a ‘light of the party’-type of person. You like to go out and do new things, you love parties and dancing all night, you enjoy meeting new people and talking to strangers, things that horrify me! But that doesn’t mean I want to stop you from doing those things!”
“You also never offered to do those things with me!”
“What part of ‘horrify’ don’t you get? Would you really want me to do something that is so far out of my comfort zone?”
“I wanted you to at least offer!” Sirius says. “I wanted to know you at least wanted to spend time with me, and that I wasn’t too needy, that I wasn’t a bother, that I wasn’t... that I wasn’t...”
“Too much,” James finishes. Because that’s just it, isn’t it? Sirius’ deep-rooted fear of always being just too much. It’s what his parents used to say when they wanted him to be modest and obedient at family events; Why can’t you just sit and be quiet? Why do you always have to be too much? It’s what Regulus said when Sirius threw him a high school graduation party, but accidentally ended up being the centre of attention himself; Stop it, Sirius! I’m done with you! You’re just too much! It’s what the coordinator said when Sirius was interviewed for a PhD position and got rejected; Academics is a hierarchical system. You have to know your place, or professors might take offense. I’m sorry, but you’re just too much for this environment.
Sirius averts his eyes, not liking feeling this vulnerable. “I offered all the time, you never did,” he says softly.
“I didn’t want you to offer!” Remus is looking at Sirius with big, pleading eyes. There’s definitely a lot sympathy in those eyes, but also a sort of desperation, like he wants to convey his side, but is struggling to get through to Sirius. “I already felt bad that I couldn’t be the fun, outgoing boyfriend you deserve, someone who’s spontaneous and adventurous, who takes you to parties, who goes dancing with you all night, someone who’s not so rigid, so easily overwhelmed, so socially awkward. And then to think that you would also be missing out on all those things, because of me...” Remus shakes his head. “I couldn’t bear that idea. I didn’t want you to make sacrifices and then end up resenting me for it.”
“It wouldn’t have been a sacrifice, Remus, not for me,” Sirius says. “I know you don’t like crowds, and I understand that going to parties with me would’ve been horrible to you, but staying in, being together, spending the evening with just the two of us, that wasn’t horrible to me! Quite the opposite.”
Remus looks at him for a moment. “I always felt like I was holding you back, Sirius,” he eventually says, his voice thick with emotion. “When you wanted to skip parties to stay with me, I couldn’t stop this voice in my head telling me that surely, you didn’t really want to be there, you would rather be somewhere else, that this couldn’t possibly ever be enough, that I couldn’t possibly ever be-”
“Enough,” James finishes. And he lets out a wry laugh, because there’s something cynical about it, isn’t it? Their opposite characters triggering their fears of either being too much, or not enough. “At least what you agree upon is that you were both struggling with your different personalities.”
Remus sighs. “Maybe we should’ve known it was never going to work.”
“I don’t know,” James says. “I mean, did you ever truly mind that Sirius was so outgoing?”
“No,” Remus replies instantly. “I’ve always admired that in him.”
James turns to Sirius. “And did you mind Remus being more on the background?”
Sirius shakes his head. “I’ve always liked him just the way he is.”
“You see?” James says. “Neither of you minded the other having an opposite personality type, but you were both afraid that the other would mind you being so opposite.”
“I felt rejected when you didn’t want me to stay,” Sirius says. “I channelled that hurt into anger, anger has always been so much easier to express, and I took it out on you.”
“Every time you left while being angry, I was convinced you would find someone else that night,” Remus admits. “Someone easier to be with, someone less complicated and more fun, someone actually exciting. I would feel worried, anxious, and eventually, angry, and even though you always came back to me the next day, I would still take it out on you.”
“And that’s how you ended up arguing, fighting, and hurting each other again and again,” James concludes.
“How we ended up being such a dysfunctional couple,” Sirius says.
“You were very much in love, but unfortunately, you were also very much triggering each other’s deepest insecurities.”
“And so we failed to make it work.” Sirius sighs. “Regardless of how much we loved each other.”
“Or because of how much you loved each other,” James suggests. “After all, the more you love, the more you care, the more scared you get of somehow ruining it all, and the more important all those insecurities tend to become.”
Suddenly, Remus lets out a chocked sound. “I’m s-sorry,” he says, trying to control his breathing. “I’m sorry I’m such a m- mess. I’m sorry loving you wasn’t enough. Because I did- I did love you, Sirius. I really, really did.”
Sirius places a hand on Remus’ arm, and when he speaks, it’s in a shaky voice. “It’s not your fault, Remus. We were both so caught up in our own issues, that somewhere along the way, we forgot to communicate.”
Remus just stares at the hand on his arm.
James feels emotional as well, and maybe his voice is not entirely steady either as he speaks. “I think what we can take away from this is that you have always wanted the best for each other. It was about differences in lifestyle, insecurities and miscommunications, never about not caring for one another. Even if being a couple didn’t work out, there’s no reason for you to not be able to be in the same room together.”
“I do care about you, Sirius,” Remus says softly, looking down at the table. “Always have, always will.”
“Me too.” Sirius says, still touching Remus’ arm. “I’ve only ever wanted the best for you.”
“This is progress,” James says, and okay, yes, his voice sounds a little hoarse. “You can build from here.”
And they do build from there. During the weeks after, things seem to have significantly calmed down between Remus and Sirius. So much so, that James manages to convince Lily to host a dinner. She does insist on using cardboard plates, however, just in case they will be flying against the wall (though Sirius did compensate her for that).
And it goes reasonably well. Granted, it’s quite awkward between Remus and Sirius, but they act cordial towards one another, and there’s no confrontation, which is massive improvement. It gives Mary the courage to throw a big birthday party, and while Remus and Sirius mostly ignore each other and keep some distance between them there, when they do run into each other, they force a tight smile. At Frank and Alice’s engagement party, they even manage to make polite conversation, and luckily, that party also goes off without a hitch.
It looks like Remus and Sirius have managed to find some sort of closure.
Everyone of the friend group applauds James for managing to create peace between the bitter ex-lovers. And James is glad. He really is. They can hang out all together again without it ending in disaster, and that in itself is wonderful.
Yet, James can’t help but feel a sense of regret. He already knew, but their conversation has confirmed it: Remus and Sirius loved each other so intensely. If only they had been able to talk to each other, weren’t held back by their insecurities, maybe they could’ve...
It’s useless speculation, of course, but there’s just something sad about the fact that the most they can get out of it now is closure.
Today, however, James tries not to think about that. It’s another step forwards, after all. Remus, Sirius and he are having a boys’ night with just the three of them. And it’s definitely been a while. Before Remus and Sirius got together, they used to hang out with the three of them all the time, and also when they were a couple, but they stopped when things turned sour. James is not so much of a masochist that he wanted to put himself in that crossfire. But now, Remus suggested the three of them go grab a bite in their favourite pub, like old times. James is still a bit apprehensive, but mostly excited.
As he walks over to their booth, he can see Remus and Sirius already sitting there. To his surprise on the same side, next to each other. Very close next to each other, in fact. Remus is actually leaning against Sirius, and Sirius appears to have an arm around Remus’ waist. James feels dread in his stomach as he approaches, which only increases as Sirius leans down to whispers something in Remus’ ear. Remus chuckles and turns to Sirius, giving him a chaste kiss on the mouth.
James freezes in place, right as he has reached the booth.
“James!” Remus sits up with a smile.
“Wotcher, mate, “ Sirius grins.
James looks from one to the other. “What’s going on?”
Everyone in the group has been praising James, but if they find out that thanks to James, the whole mess will just start all over again, they’ll kill him.
Remus and Sirius exchange a look, before looking back at James.
“We’re back together,” Remus announced proudly.
“We wanted you to be the first to know,” Sirius adds. “Since we owe it all to you.”
James groans. Yeah, he’s going to get killed. Marlene will make sure his death is slow and painful. His best hope is that Lily will have strangled him before Marlene can get her hands on him.
As James sits down across from Remus and Sirius, he eyes them warily. “Do you really think this is a good idea? You’re only just started to act normal, well, relatively normal, around each other again.”
“Well, actually-”
“There’s a huge difference between not fighting at a party and restarting your bloody relationship!”
“Jamie...”
“I feel like I’m still picking up the pieces from last time. I don’t know how much more I’m going to be able to take.”
“James, we’ve already been together for two months!”
“And not to mention, you’re- Wait, what?”
“It’s been two months already!” Sirius beams. “We actually got back together right after our talk. We’ve been keeping it secret, so we’ve been keeping our distance from one another at social gatherings, which made us sometimes feel very awkward, figuring out how to act around one each other! But we didn’t want to tell anyone yet, because we know the most common reaction would’ve been ‘Oh god, no, please not this again!’”
James opens his mouth to say something, but Sirius holds up his hand. “Which is a completely fair and justified reaction! Just not something we wanted to deal with just yet.”
“To be honest,” Remus adds. “We weren’t sure whether we would be able to make it work this time ourselves, so we wanted to keep it just between us for a bit.”
“Two months?” James says, trying to wrap his head around it. “Two months, and judged by the fact that you’re telling me now, it’s...”
“Good ! Really good,” Sirius says. “We’re in a better place than ever before.”
“And we really felt like you deserved to know most of all,” Remus says. “Considering how you made it possible for us to have another chance.”
James isn’t convinced yet. “Two months, and there hasn’t been any...”
“Yelling or shouting?”
“Cursing each other’s name?”
“Storming off in anger?”
“Slamming doors?”
“Throwing plates at each other’s head?”
“Calling you up in the middle of the night crying?”
“No,” Sirius says with a proud smile. “There’s been none of that!”
“Of course we still have our difficulties and insecurities,” Remus admits. “But thanks to you, we now understand where the other is coming from, which makes it easier to explain ourselves, and we can just talk about it.”
Sirius smiles down at Remus, his gaze filled with fondness. “I’ve learned that I tend to talk like I’m making compromises for Remus, even when I want something myself just as much, and that I should stop taking everything so personal all the time. Remus sometimes needs his space, and it’s not a rejection of me as a person when he doesn’t want me around for a moment.”
Remus beams up at Sirius. “And I’ve learned that Sirius is a proper adult who can make his own decisions, and when he decides he wants to spend time with me, I should trust he’s making that decision because it’s what he wants to do, instead of reading a million other things into it.”
James gives them both a firm stare. “I’m glad that you’ve learned, but I refuse to go through that whole mess again, so if you’re really going to do this, you better make sure it’s forever!”
“Forever, huh?” Sirius smiles at Remus. “What do you say, Rem?”
Remus smiles back brightly. “Forever it is.”
James looks from Sirius to Remus, from Remus to Sirius, who are looking at each other like there’ll never be anyone else for either of them.
Maybe he’s a naive fool, maybe a hopeless romantic, but hell, he believes it.

Dlif remus and reader having a daughter who loves being held by remus but when she finally allows james to take for the night remus doesnt waste any time and starts eating. Out reader for the first time in 11 months and him just giving her everything he held in for 11 months
c/n = child’s name
Tumblr media
if there was one thing that everyone knew about your and remus’ daughter it’s that she wants to be in remus’ arms 24/7, whenever remus was doing anything your daughter was begging him to pick her and carry her around.
when remus would even try to make a move on you when she’d be in occupied with toys or tv then she’d ruin it, crying for him to pick her up and go play with her in the living room.
it had been months since remus had touched you or you touched him, still happy but growing frustrated since the abrupt change to your schedule since having the baby.
james had come over with harry while lily went to the store, letting harry and c/n play together while remus and james sat and talked and you took the advantage to take a shower and actually take your time.
getting out and dressing, all your aching muscles had relaxed from the hot shower and you felt good.
going downstairs and watching remus and james talk while the kids played was too cute, remus noticed you and smiled.
“i was just saying that i think c/n and harry should have a sleepover at james’” remus said, looking over at you for your opinion. you thought about it, it would be nice to have alone time but you know you’ll miss her in an hour.
you nodded, “that sounds fun, she’d love to get out of the house for a bit” you said.
soon james was putting your guys’ car seat in his car and then you said your goodbyes to c/n and gave james the overnight bag you packed for her.
before james was even all the way out the drive way, remus’ lips were on your neck and guiding you to the couch.
tugging at your clothes and tossing them onto the floor before he got on his knees in front of you, bringing you to the edge of the couch and pushing your legs up and apart.
his head between your thighs, his tongue lapping at your clit, his fingers digging into your thighs and your hands on his head trying to bring him closer.
throwing your head back and letting go, relaxing as remus worked wonders on you. feeling one of his hands leave your thigh, you knew it went to his cock as he started to moan against your cunt while pleasuring you.

"So what exactly happened there, eh Sirius?"
Remus was furious. He had been in love with Sirius Black since he was ten years old. But this love wasn't easy or beautiful. Sometimes Sirius made Remus go crazy. So angry that he wanted to kill him. So angry he wanted to wrap his hands around his neck and... And... And bloody kiss him senseless. Fuck that gorgeous bastard with those puppy eyes.
"You couldn't just let it go, could you?" Remus snapped "You had to make everything about yourself. You couldn't stand that someone was actually flirting with me and not you for once?"
Sirius had been extremely rude with Emmeline. She hadn't done anything wrong. She was really cool in fact. One of the few girls that didn't fall for Sirius Black's charm. She was lucky. Fancying Sirius was a nightmare.
But no. Sirius couldn't stand it. Could he?
Remus wasn't into Emmeline. He was gay. And he couldn't get Sirius out of his mind. But he liked Emmeline. And it was the first time someone actually flirted with him. It felt nice. But Sirius had to ruin it.
"I find that girl really odd" Sirius snapped "Rumor has it she is always lying and inventing stories..."
Remus shook his head and clenched his teeth.
"Lads, let's just be reasonable. Okay?"
The worst part was that James and Peter had witnessed everything. And now they followed Remus and Sirius to their dorm and were very pendant of Remus' explosive mood. But he didn't care.
"I am just trying to take care of you, Moony"
How dare he use the nickname now. It made Remus weak.
"It is not your business who I hang out with or not, Sirius!"
Remus has raised his voice. Just a little.
"Remus..."
"No James" Remus snapped "He is awful with Lily too. And he was awful with Susan when Peter dated her... Apparently every girl who is not into him immediately deserves shame"
"That's not true!!" It was Sirius' turn to raise his voice.
"I just hate how you guys had become so stupid to go after girls like that. They are not worth it"
"You go after girls all the time!!"
James and Peter were looking between them like a tennis match.
"They are nothing serious" Sirius said "No one to take my time away from my friends and make me a fool"
"Sirius..." James tried "That's not..."
"Of course! I forgot the great Sirius Black is immune to love"
"I didn't say that!" Sirius yelled "You don't even like Emmeline, Moony. You are into blokes"
"That doesn't mean I cannot like her as a friend!"
"She clearly doesn't want to be your friend, Remus!"
"Jealous?" Remus snorted "You cannot stand that a cool and pretty girl isn't actually into you, ha?"
"I don't care! I don't fancy Emmeline"
"Then, why don't you admit that you are jealous because you would die to be with me?"
It came out without a filter. Remus underestimated the power of his anger. He had vomited the words without thinking. Well maybe kind of desperate that Sirius actually felt the same. And he was doing this out of jealousy.
But damn. Remus regretted it the second those words came out of his mouth. Especially when he saw how Sirius went pale. He seemed so disgusted by the idea that he was in shock.
Remus also remembered that James and Peter were actually there. And they had their mouths wide open.
"Blimey" Peter even murmured.
"I... I... I don't..."
Sirius' face was turning red, purple even. God, he was so ashamed. Remus had to end this.
He faked a laugh.
"But you won't do it because you are not gay" Remus felt his cheeks were on fire and he hoped his blush wasn't evident.
"And you are only doing this because it hurts your ego that Emmeline doesn't fancy you like everybody else"
Remus cleared his throat embarrassed. James had adopted his concerned face from before. Peter was trying not to laugh. But Sirius... Sirius was still red as a tomato, eyes wide fixed on the floor.
"I am going to have a fag downstairs" Remus said as quickly as he could "May I, Mr. Black?"
Sirius didn't answer. He was still in shock, blinking to the floor. He couldn't even stand the idea of being gay and into Remus. Even as a joke.
Remus tried not to think about it and he left the dorm as quickly as he could.
"Emmeline is nice, Pads" James told Sirius, as soon as Remus closed the door "You should apologize. Moony can be friends with other people"
Sirius didn't answer. But he swallowed loudly.
James sighed and walked to his bed unaware of the whirlwind in Sirius' mind. But Peter knew. Peter knew pretty well. He patted Sirius' shoulder and winked at him.
Sirius was still out of breath.
Remus only said it as a joke or because he was angry. But damn that was close. Sirius thought he had been caught. He had been trying to hide this stupid crush on Remus. Sirius had been acknowledging recently that his heart jumped wildy when Remus was around. That he had been observing Remus' lips, freckles, nose, eyelashes (actually everything about him) more than he should. More than a friend would. Sirius' eyes moved frantically searching for Remus when he was not around. Like he missed him. And Sirius smiled when he saw Remus walk into the room seconds later. He could breathe again.
Sirius had never felt this about any girl. About anyone really. What did this mean for him? He didn't know. Sirius had been so confused lately. Sirius had been avoiding the girls he used to snog and pretending he just wanted to have fun with his friends. But in reality, all Sirius could think when he was with a girl was how different she was from Remus. And how she wasn’t Moony. He closed his eyes and sometimes he pictured he was kissing Moony. And then he felt ashamed by it. So he stopped.
Sirius had gone crazy when he saw Emmeline flirting with Remus.
My Moony... He had thought.... I want him to be mine.
Sirius had never thought that much about Remus' interests. It was a surprise when Remus came out as gay a few months ago. And even though it was true, the possibility of him having a thing with Emmeline hurt him. Not only with Emmeline. With anyone that wasn't him.
Shit. Sirius was going mad. He had never had to hide a crush or his feelings before. He was so pathetic.
But Remus didn't want to be with him. He didn't feel the same.
Remus was too amazing for the mess that Sirius was. Remus probably wanted a bloke who was sure of himself, someone who knew if he fancied blokes before girls. Someone who would risk it all to be with him. Someone like his friend Grant for example. Shit, that thought made him really sad.
Sirius was Remus' messy friend. That was all. He would never see him as nothing else.
Sirius groaned openly, feeling really embarrassed. He dropped to his bed, burying his face on his pillow. Sirius wanted to be swallowed by earth. He wanted to go back to before he fancied his best friend. Because now it had become very complicated.
"Don't be dramatic, Padfoot" James tutted "Just swallow your stupid pride, okay handsome?"
"Mur... Mray..."
"Sorry, love?"
Sirius lied on his back.
"You're right" Sirius sighed loudly "I will apologize to Moony"
James smiled proud of his friend.
"Don't forget about Emmeline" Peter said from the bathroom door.
Sirius groaned again. Now rolling his eyes.
"Emmeline tomorrow..." Sirius pouted "Moony now"
"Good boy, Padfoot"
Sirius could feel James' smirk mocking him. Sirius did his best to roll out of bed. And walk out of the room without looking at his friends.
As Sirius climbed down the stairs, he started panicking. What the hell was he supposed to say to Remus? He didn't know how to not be obvious in front of him. Sirius had been acting stupid and nervous. Had he noticed something? It would be very embarrassing if Remus figured out his feelings. Sirius didn't know how to explain them yet. Not even to himself.
Like right now, when he saw Remus sitting by the window in The Common Room, Sirius' heart did a little flip. And he blushed. Maybe this was a bad idea.
"I am sorry, Moony" Sirius sighed, walking towards him. Remus noticed him "I acted like an idiot"
Remus turned to the window again.
"You only say that because you want a cig"
Sirius smiled.
"No. I am really sorry"
Sirius took a seat next to Remus.
"And I do want a cig"
Remus tried to hide his smile as he gave Sirius the pack. Sirius felt himself blushing as he rushed Remus' hand and he thanked the poor light.
"You can be friends with Vance if you want" Sirius said with the cigarette between his lips.
"Why don't you like her?"
Because Sirius was immensely jealous.
"I like her..." Sirius murmured with a pout "Well actually you were right" he sighed "I don't want The Marauders to crumble because of girls. Look what happened with The Beatles"
Remus laughed and Sirius' stare stayed on his throat moving accordingly.
"The Beatles didn't crumble because of Yoko" he said with a smile "There were a lot of things going on as well. Fights and all"
"My point exactly"
Remus tutted and giggled.
"I feel like I am losing James because of Evans" Sirius confessed "And Peter is going to find someone too... And you with Emmeline"
"Pads, I am gay!" Remus laughed "I don't fancy her"
Then fancy me. Sirius thought.
"You won't abandon me for her, eh Moony?"
Sirius' heart started beating fast. Fuck, Sirius wished he could control it.
Remus shook his head.
"I could never abandon you, Pads"
Sirius was momentarily out of breath while Remus kept smiling at him like that.
"So..." Remus started "This isn't about you having a crush on me?"
Something happened with his cigarette but Sirius began coughing like an idiot. But luckily with this excuse he could cover his embarrassing blush.
Remus laughed. That fucking bastard. He patted Sirius' back.
"Don't worry, asshole. I am joking"
Sirius decided to compose himself and act as if Remus' words hadn't affected him. He should stop joking about that. Remus kept laughing, that wanker.
Sirius took deep breaths to recompose himself. Remus kept smoking as if nothing happened.
"Remus..."
"Mmm?"
"You promise to tell me if you fancy a boy, yeah?"
Remus took a while to answer. Sirius held his breath until Remus spoke again.
"I promise, Pads. I will tell you"

You had a crush on James Potter you were shy telling him that because you knew he wouldn't like you back since he's popular, but little did you know that James is in love with you
"What is your hurried prongs"? Remus asks, looking at James getting ready quickly.
"So he can go talk to his girlfriend." Sirius tease
"You have a girlfriend?" Peter asked
"Well, she's not my girlfriend yet. " James smiles
"Who are we talking about?" Remus asked
"Y/n." James blushes
"Y/N's really shy and she's really beautiful, but I heard Snivellus has a crush on her." Sirius says
"Snivellus can't like her, I liked her first." James says in jealousy
"Well, if I were you I would ask her out before Snivellus does. " Sirius laughed but stopped when James left angrily
"Hey!! Watch where your go-. " James cut himself when he noticed that he had bumped into you "I'm sorry. " You said, trying not to blush in front of James
"Love don't be it's my fault I wasn't watching where I was going." James tries so hard to not blush, but he couldn't help it since he was in front of his crush
You blush "I need to tell you something."
"Well, I also need to tell you something."
"You can go first."
"Y/N i"-.
"Y/N." Severus stopped smiling when he saw James with you
"Stupid Snivellus." James angrily whispers
"Y/n is he bothering you?" Severus glares at James
"He's not, we're just talking." You smiled
"About?" Severus asked, curious
James angrily crossed his arm "none of your business."
You grabbed Severus' arm so he wouldn't pick a fight with James "Let's go Severus and James you can tell me later on what you wanted to tell me."
James storms off as his jealousy was going through his body
"James, are you ok?" Sirius asked worry as he noticed James was crying
James let his tears fall down to his cheeks "I was going to tell her that I like her, but Snivellus had it to ruin everything."
Sirius gives James a hug "don't give up on her fight for her don't let Snivellus take your girl away from You"
"I won't and that's a promise."
"Why don't you invite her to your Quidditch match and once it's over you run to her and ask her on a date and also ask her to be your girlfriend so Snivellus won't ever try to steal your girl ever again."
James smiles, "Thank you for your help Padfoot."
"Prongs that's what best friends are for." Sirius smiles as he sees James leaving happily
Lily and you were watching James play Quidditch matching since he invited you, but you decided to bring Lily with you instead of Severus
"Why don't you tell him already?"
"Lily, he doesn't feel the same, he's going to end up rejecting me." You smiled sadly
"How do you know that?" Lily asked
"Because he's popular and I'm not."
Lily rolled her eyes, "he doesn't care if you're popular or not and I bet he feels the same way."
You shake your head "I know he doesn't so stop trying to get my hopes up."
"Y/N I wish you knew that James actually does have feelings for you." Lily whispers
You look over at Lily, "did you say something?"
"No."
Everyone, including Lily and you clapped as James's team wins you looked at Lily confused as James runs over to you and Lily gives you a smiled knowing that James is going to confess his love for you
"Y/n love I want to tell you how I feel about you before Stupid Snivellus comes over and ruins it."
"James, what are you saying?"
"Love, I have feelings for you so I'm asking you if you want to go on a date with me and also if you want to be my girlfriend."
"You like me?" You asked, shocked
James blushes "who wouldn't like a beautiful girl like you so what do you say?"
You smile "Yes, I would love to go on that date with you and of course I would love to be your girlfriend."
James smiles as he pulled you into a deep kiss as everyone watched and cheered and a glaring Severus
Harry had tears in his eyes. "Wow, that was lovely, so that's how my parents began dating?"
Sirius nodded "Yes, I even cried and cheered for them."
Harry cried "I wish I'd met my parents, their love story always makes me sad but happy."
"James and Y/N were really great people, they always loved you, they were overprotective of you Harry."
Harry smiled "I sometimes feel alone without my parents but I don't anymore because I have great people who always look out for me and I'm grateful for it."
"We will always be with you." Lily pulled Harry into a hug
"Always and forever." Remus pulled everyone into a big group hug
