honestly in terms of the treadmill i assumed that it was wrecked beyond repair (it's not like they can get MORE 31st century tech to replace certain parts) and that when Baby showed up at the north pole they just brought it with them so they could dispose of it themselves later because Bart was like "there is NO WAY we're leaving this here". like let's be real. Bart's original time machine was never even brought up again after Bloodlines. for my sanity i'm assuming this is a similar case lol
i guess i associate seeing wreckage as something visibly being beyond repair (like the legions sphere) so when the cosmic treadmill was in essence spat out by bioship (lol) even though it glitched i didn’t think it looked bad as it was in one piece. But I think ur point is reasonable and good to consider to pace my expectations (and like u mentioned sanity 🥲)
the biggest reason i was thinking it’s something to consider for hypothetical (oh this hurts 😂) future plots is because of what it is, i.e the cosmic treadmill, something that’s quite a major thing to speedster lore, like what the fortress of solitude or phantom zone is to superman lore or what the utility belt as equipment etc is it to batman, lasso of truth, bracelets to wonder woman etc
basically something so iconic to the related lore that it’s crazy (painful 💀) for me to perceive it as a one time thing.
also, the thing that separates it from something like the time sphere or his original time machine being irreparable is that it’s something bart built in the present, not his original timeline of 40 years in the future of an alien post apocalyptic earth (assuming that the time/alien element gave him more sophisticated components to work with despite it being the apocalypse) nor something that is built from a thousand years in the future. he built it in the now (with the assumed help of current day tech (total side note, i assumed that the stolen zeta core he stole from the Watchtower inventory was for building the treadmill/a spare component)), knows exactly what’s going on with it and can work with tech of the present for it. His OG time machine was explicitly built as a one time thing, because as sophisticated as its base technology might be, it was also a little scrappy in design, assuming that he really worked with what was available to his immediate surrounding (like scraps of metal), so it was only natural it would essentially be “fried” by something like time travel.
for the treadmill it seemed to be built as something pretty durable for its intended long term use like space travel.
i’d just assume that the components of the 31st century especially from something like the time sphere that he managed to salvage from are a little more durable than his OG machine (the parts that he managed to save from being intentionally damaged by Lor). Combining that with it being built in the present, it really didn’t cross my mind that it was something beyond repair or even remotely properly damaged in the first place.
when he was the first to leave the Arctic i felt like it was such an emergency (fighting the zods) that he didn’t really think twice about anything. then the rest of the heroes were split between Dick and Mganns team (with LOSH) also hurrying, and those who were tending to the wounded. I didn’t really think about this part any further tbh but I’d assume that the medical team portion would collect it or something. But just the image of bioship spitting it out it’s like she wouldn’t want it anywhere near her 😭 lmfao. So team LOSH and co maybe managed to “quickly” take it with them (also considering LOSH knowing what it is) but the urgency of the situation just had me thinking initially it was abandoned at the pole at the time 😭
also something that is only the result of me entirely overthinking things is the way the treadmill was designed in YJ. The fact that it’s compatible with bioship/baby makes me think that if YJ wants to do serious time traveling throughout the season in the future, rather than in S2/4 where it’s more of a plot device than a used tool (atleast for the heroes, Lor was the one who used it the most in S4), i can imagine the treadmill being somehow used for it. Like originally it was built for space travel, but this is time traveler bart we r talking about here lol i don’t think it would be impossible for it to be redesigned for its original comic purpose. Also more importantly, it allows big teams of people to travel with it, rather than just bart running on it.
So yeah, this is all the mess of thoughts that makes it appeal to me as an ideal checkhovs gun for future seasons, but honestly with all things YJ who genuinely knows at this point 😭
Anyway, thanks for sharing i love reading about ppls thoughts on these things <3

Hello! You mentioned in a tag that you think Pamela is Bruce's favorite, and it made me wonder. I'd definitely be interested to hear more on that, if you feel like talking about it! Love hearing your thoughts.
💗💗 So a few years ago I was reading the "Gothtopia" arc and was incredibly amused by Bruce casually letting Ivy escape from Arkham to return a favor she'd done him.
Tumblr media
Notably, Ivy was the only inmate imprisoned in Arkham at the time, because Scarecrow locked her up for interfering. So Bruce literally helped her escape and then lied to Jim's face about it. I know you recently read Run, Riddler, Run, so here's an amusing comparison: in this story, Ivy is pointedly not reformed, she punches Bruce in the face before helping him, and Bruce still sets her free. Meanwhile, Bruce rewards the assistance of a reformed Edward by punching him in the face and making sure Edward is re-imprisoned.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then ever since reading Gothtopia, I’ve just been noting how much more tolerant Bruce seems of Ivy than his other villains. Obviously a large element of that is the metatextual factor of Ivy being a female character-- it would clearly Look Really Bad for artists to depict Batman brutalizing a woman with the same sadistic detail with which they depict him assaulting his male villains. (Though ironically the metahuman plant goddess could probably brush off a punch much easier than his variety of entirely human gimmick villains).
Tumblr media
There’s also the factor of writers continuously flip-flopping back and forth on whether or not they’re attracted to each other. I kind of thought Pamela’s current commitment to Harley meant this was over, but then Tynion’s run depicted Ivy as holding the same spot in Bruce’s subconscious as Selina and Talia, so I guess it isn’t (though maybe that just means the attraction is one-sided on Bruce’s part now, which would be an amusing twist on Ivy having an unreciprocated crush on him in the 90′s).
Tumblr media
But over time I think Bruces faith in Ivy has become less about her being a woman (who he may or may not be attracted to), and more sympathy for her motivations. Especially now that she’s transformed from a femme fatale who wants to be the queen of crime to a zealous ecoterrorist who wants to save the planet.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
For as much as their interests are entirely alien to each other (Ivy wants to protect nature, often at the cost of human life; Bruce wants to protect human life, often at the cost of... well, human life, actually), their obsessive dedication to doing what they think of as “good” is very similar. Which means Ivy is easier to negotiate with than other villains, since she has goals beyond greed or sadism that Bruce is able to compromise on. Which means it’s easier for Bruce to believe in her capacity for good, in a way that he normally doesn’t bother to believe in his villains, because it’s inevitable that they’ll disappoint him. Which also means that he GIVES Ivy opportunities to disappoint him...
Tumblr media
Detective Comics #823 is a huge point of frustration to me because the concept is so fascinating and the execution is just ENDLESS objectification to the point that it almost erases the plot (story of my life trying to read Paul Dini’s writing). But I love the bones of it as a comic where Bruce sympathizes with Pamela, to the point of letting her stay in the Batcave to protect her from an attacker (I can’t even think of another example of Bruce doing this for a villain, outside of Joker in the BTAS comics, and doesn’t that say a lot on its own). But then he discovers evidence of Ivy having recently gruesomely murdered several people, and he is so illogically hurt and betrayed by this-- a woman he knows is a murderer having murdered people-- that he threatens to kill her.
Tumblr media
It’s not uncommon for Bruce to threaten his villains with death (I have a whole subfolder on my computer dedicated just to times where he does so with Mr. Freeze), but it’s fascinating to me that Bruce frames the threat here as a question. He wants her to give him a reason to believe in her, even though he has just been faced with undeniable evidence that her view of human life is fundamentally incompatible with his. But Ivy doesn’t give him a reason-- she just calls him on his bluff, which I love.
Tumblr media
In the current continuity, Ivy is honestly less Bruce’s supporting character so much as she is Harley’s, but Bruce IS still the main character of DC Detective Comics, so they still interact on occasion. Although ironically, I think the most recent example of my point is actually Ivy’s ex-girlfriend Bella comparing the two of them in Batman Secret Files: The Gardener.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bella believes that Bruce will ignore her and simply try to imprison Ivy more effectively, which is probably what he would have done normally: Bruce is extremely set in his ways, and his way is to drag any villains he defeats back to Arkham even though he knows Arkham helps no one. The 2021 Detective Comics Annual was all about how Bruce still has to be dragged kicking and screaming into investing in the idea of any criminal being reformed, and resolutely does not consider it his responsibility to help them do so.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ironically, however, we know that Bruce DID listen to Bella. The issue with their conversation is set in the timeline right before Everybody Loves Ivy, which ends with Bruce deciding to bring Pamela to “Sanctuary,” the therapy center he helped build for superheroes, rather than bringing her back to Arkham. His dialogue with Ivy even uses a lot of Bella’s points here, which is very fun retrospective writing from Tynion. But then Heroes in Crisis happened and... well, Bruce’s attempt to help her instead of hurt her ultimately made everything worse, and has now domino effect led to her current solo series where she is trying to kill off a significant portion of the planet’s human population. (In his defense, Bella’s attempts to fix Ivy also failed and backfired just as spectacularly.) But the fact that Bruce was willing to try is notable and so fascinating to me, since as a character he’s so resistant to setting himself up for disappointment.

Today I ascended from this mortal plane and remembered why I love movies and want to pursue filmmaking.
For context, I watched Barbie, and the Miraculous Ladybug movie today.
So, I saw Barbie with my mom, in a theater full of women. The first five minutes, I was sat there like "Did the internet lie to me again?" cause I was genuinely confused about what the hell was happening onscreen. But once I managed to get into the groove of things, I really enjoyed myself. I didn't play with Barbies growing up, and it was still enjoyable to me. It was so campy and funny(thank you Kate McKinnon and Michael Cera for being a big source of that), but it had some pretty deep themes, such as criticism against both a patriarchy and a matriarchy, the struggles of women in society, existentialism, and mother-daughter relationships. Definitely a movie for the girlies, but I think it's enjoyable for everyone.
I think the music was great. My mom hates musicals, despises them with her whole heart, but she told me after the movie that she loved I'm Just Ken. And yeah, it was so much. My favorite bit was the fast paced "Can you feel the Kenergy" moments. I've been playing Identity V, and I use that to hype me up for matches. It gives 80s power ballad, and it's super fun to listen to over and over again. Ryan Gosling did a very good job with it. I can see I'm Just Ken and Peaces battling it out for Best Original Song. Push was great as well, despite being underused in the movie, the full version(which is a cover of an existing song) is very interesting, and lyrically fits the movie so well.
I'm not typically a fan of bright colors in movies, catch me watching The Batman any day, but Barbie is the exception, as it just made certain scenes feel so much more important. Mattel offices being cold and gray, really sold that corporate vibes, and the soft white at the ending with Ruth definitely made it feel like Barbie was reaching a life-changing conclusion. It's a wonderful use of color.
Now the themes are the big draw of the movie. Regarding the patriarchy, matriarchy, and daily struggles of women, those themes are definitely hard to miss, but they do so much good with them. Showing Ken being essentially brainwashed by the idea of the patriarchy is interesting, and definitely rings home for anyone who grew up with boys as friends. I've seen a few guy friends of mine turn from sweet guys, into womanizers as they grew older. And it also shows that a matriarchy isn't good either, by showing how the Kens feel less than in BarbieLand. The Ken's situation is a muted version of women's situations in the real world. The Kens aren't sexualized or hated, but they're ignored. In the real world, both in the movie and real life, women have it worse than the Kens, and feel in a similar position. Makes it easy to enjoy both perspectives. Barbie focusing on thoughts of death and change as a whole hits with me on a personal level, as I have a lot of issues with existentialism, and any movie with death as a major theme usually brings me close to tears(such as Puss in Boots 2, curse you good movies). Seeing Barbie meet her creator in Ruth was so sweet, and was incredibly heartwarming.
Special mention to the line "We mother stand still so our daughters can look back to see how far they've come". It made me want to give my mom the biggest hug, and I'm in no way a hugger.
Then I went home, and watched the Miraculous Ladybug movie because I had nothing else to do. I've been with the show since 2020, which isn't as long as other fans, but the show still sticks in my brain the same. I knew the animation was going to be great, and that the art direction would make up for any shortcomings in the story. And while yes, the plot was rushed (duh, like, how many years has it taken to get to this point in the show? its gonna feel rushed) but the art was absolutely stunning. My favorite moment was from Hawkmoth's villain song, Chaos Will Reign(available on Spotify) when they pulled out the Disney Villain lime green color. I love that color, and seeing Hawkmoth with it made me ascend. I really love the ending battle as well, the use of colors, lightning effects, butterfly textures, was just perfect. The animation was also really smooth, down to the small details of hair movements, such as when Nino and Alya are on the roller coaster, or when Chat Noir's hair gets wet.
The music was probably my least favorite part, just because I think Cristina Vee could've slayed it, and that the songs sounded kind of generic. But Oh My God, Chaos Will Reign had me bopping and replaying it. In fact, I'm listening to Chaos Will Reign and I'm Just Ken while writing this. It definitely gave me old Disney villain song vibes, mixed with the slightest hint of a Danny Elfman soundtrack. It just sounded so evil, but in a way that I can get behind. Keith Silverstein can actually sing, and that note at the end was wonderful. The vibrato gave me life. I was lowkey hoping Nooroo would stop talking so I could hear more. The chanting was awesome, and gave Friends on the Other Side vibes. I was (and still am) a big fan of villain songs, and this is a throwback to my theater kid days when I exclusively played villains and enjoyed it. Definitely overthrew the Hawkmoth Rap as my favorite Miraculous Ladybug song, but the Hawkmoth Rap is like, second place still. The only crime this song had was being too short. Release the ten hour cut.
Finally, aside from the glory that is Chaos Will Reign, I want to say that the two identity reveal scenes were amazing. I'll start off with Adrien and Marinette's, just because I care about that one the least. I think it was a creative way to go about it, with the masquerade masks. Fanfiction wins again. But I have so much to squeal about when it comes to the Adrien and Gabriel reveal. This version of Gabriel was definitely way more sympathetic than his show counterpart, despite committing atrocious acts. I actually wanted this Gabriel to get some redemption, and I think that bit of forgiveness from Adrien is just that. Let them have a good bond, PLEASE! The whole battle scene was just amazing, the fact that Hawkmoth was willing to do literally anything, and very nearly came close to winning. I knew he wasn't going to win, it's a kid's movie, but I was still on the edge of my seat and biting my nails.
I need both of these movies injected into my bloodstream ASAP.
Do I recommend them? Depends on your preferences. For Barbie, I can see why people wouldn't like it, it's campy(in a fun way), and it's anti-patriarchy and anti-matriarchy, which would make the misogynists and misandrists mad. But I think if you're open to a goofy time that will make you appreciate the women in your life, then give it a watch. It's definitely worth it.
For Miraculous Ladybug, it's a kid's movie, based on a show with a big following spanning years. I think it's something to watch if you're a fan, former or current, of the show. If you're just starting to watch Miraculous, it'll be a better watch if you sit through the show. But, it's a good movie, and still enjoyable for novice Miraculers.
I'm definitely watching these over and over again.

TTTE/DC (2017)
More DC Comics-themed mini comparisons.
Tumblr media
Toby as Nightwing: Nah. You know what woulda been funny though? Toby as ye olde Golden Age Flash with the metal helmet. It'd be like his bell!
Thomas as Batman: No.
Victor as Superboy: No. Superboy is about looking up to a guy who you know you are meant to be like but coming up short on matching his abilities, and having to deal with what that means about your place in the world. Clearly a character meant for James. Superboy's color scheme is even First Day in the Yard James.
If you want red and black for Victor, El Diablo would be cool.
Gator as Swamp Thing: As obvious as Killer Croc was but okay.
Tumblr media
Dash as Black Lightning: Not by a long shot! Black Lightning is responsible and has his shit together. Bash and Dash woulda been really cute as Más y Menos.
Toby as Blue Beetle: Yes if this were Ted Cord, but the face markings indicate that this Jaime Reyes so no. But I LOVE this livery on him! It's cashy as fuck.
Thomas as 52 Batman: Even more no than the other times I said no to Thomas as Batman.
Rosie as Star Sapphire: No. Star Sapphire is... complicated but I can't think of a single version of her that makes sense for Rosie. Good matches for Rosie are Supergirl, Wonder Girl, Stargirl, and Miss Martian.
Tumblr media
Henry as Batman Beyond: Wow, no, but you know what? Sonny would be good for this version of Batman. Street hoodlum on a redemption arc? He wasn't around yet for this, but I'm tellin' you how it is.
Bash as Booster Gold: Okay, I think what they were going for were sort of similar liveries for Bash and Dash and while Booster Gold is far more appropriate to these guys than Black fkn Lightning is, you know who Booster Gold is really good for? Thomas. Booster Gold's deal is he's a glory-seeker who came from the future to become a superhero in the past using his future technology, but because he isn't acting out of pure good will, he often gets overshadowed by more just heroes. Also he and Thomas have the same color schemes. The blue's been tealed down a bit here for Bash.
James as Krypton Armor Superman: Okay, I actually had to research this one 'cause it's a New 52 thing and most of my DC knowledge comes from TV shows. Anyway, the deal with this is, Superman is normally invulnerable on Earth because of its yellow sun and so he does not need armor. On his home planet, the sun was red so no one had super powers and so if they were gonna get into fights, they had Krypton Armor. So it follows that if Superman goes to any other planet without a yellow sun, he needs armor because his powers are diminished. At least in the New 52. That's a thing that gets handwaved unless the story's too good normally. Anyway, that's kinda cool for James, since his paintjob is a sort of personality armor.
Emily as Wonder Woman: No.
Tumblr media
Rosie as Starfire: Yeah! There you go! Now you're cookin' with butter.
Toby as Blue Beetle: No, but it looks so goddamn good on him!
Henry as Green Arrow: You know what? I didn't actually say if I thought Green Arrow was an appropriate character for Henry. The thing about Green Arrow is, he's kinda like Batman in that he's just a regular guy with a lot of money, but unlike Batman he's friendly and personable. The main thing about him, though, is that he tends to be characterized as a bleeding heart type who fights not only regular crime, but oppression from other rich guys and the military and shit like that. I don't recall this ever translating into treehugging, but I could see that kind of plot for him. Anyway, Green Arrow isn't perfect for Henry, but I can see some logic there.
James as Brainiac: loul no. Not to say that James isn't capable of some rat-fuck connivery, but that's actually not Brainiac's style. He's more of a 9D chess kinda guy.
Tumblr media
Percy as Reverse Flash: I originally thought this was James and I already said I liked Flash for James, but Reverse Flash is quite good in respect to James' bullshit with Duck. But this is, in fact, Percy and I don't think this is him at all, but I do like that he's at least been given a character that isn't a sidekick to a character Thomas has. And Percy as a villain... now there's an idea that could bear more exploration. Kinda like that episode with Bulgy where he daydreams that Percy is the one keeping him and the roadways down? Percy as a villain is so fuckin' funny.
Belle as Raven: No. There's another match for Belle coming up and I think it's perfect. As for Raven... maybe late-game Mavis who's not so full of her own ideas anymore and takes shit more seriously?
Emily as Poison Ivy: No, I'm tellin' you, Poison Ivy is Daisy.
Hiro as Bane: No. Ryan might be fun as Bane. 'Cause of the pipes and all. As for Hiro, if you want to make him a villain, maybe Ra's al Ghul? Or Vandal Savage. You know, guys who live for fucking ever. If you want to not do that, you could make him Martian Manhunter, who's also a million years old, wise as all hell, and who in at least one continuity took up a secret identity as a normal man in an Asian country.
Tumblr media
Belle as Batgirl: This isn't the perfect match for Belle, but yeah, I could see this. Might also work for Emily.
Gordon as Darkseid: Goddamn, what did Gordon ever do to you, Fisher-Price? Darkseid is one of the biggest bads there are. Gordon's kind of a dick a lot of the time, but he's not that bad. That bein' said, if you want to make him a big bad, I think he'd look real handsome as the Anti-Monitor. Otherwise, I think he'd ought to be Superman. He's biggest and best and a member of the press.
Luke as Beast Boy: Yes. Perfect.
Ferdinand as Martian Manhunter: Nope. For real. Lobo. It'd be fun!
Tumblr media
Belle as Big Barda: There she is! Perfect, beautiful, love that for her.
Gordon as Azrael Batman: Man, here's a dark-ass take too, goddamn. What do they got against Gordon? Suffice to say, no, I don't think insane assassin taking up the mantle of Batman is right for ol' Gordo. Although, Azrael was a test-tube baby which is kinda like being a prototype. All the same, no.
Henry as Green Arrow: Yeah, all right.
Millie as Harley Quinn: No, Rebecca.
Diesel 10 as The Joker: No, Lex Luthor.
Hiro as Steel Superman: Okay, so Steel Superman (just Steel) was a guy who tried to become Superman after actual Superman died. Had a metal Superman suit, kinda like Metal Cap Mario but it's Superman. Except it's not Superman, it's a guy dressed as Superman if Superman wore a metal suit because regular Superman is dead. Yeah, it's confusing. Howeveur, apart from being Metal-skin Supeman, Steel's also railway themed! His secret identity is John Henry Irons and he carries a sledgehammer and has wrist-mounted rivet guns. Is it perfect for Hiro? No, but I'm kinda into it!
Porter as Captain Cold: Okay enough but I'm still tickled about him being Hourman for the sand.
Percy as Red Tornado: I like Red Tornado way more for Victor, but I don't hate this. It's not right for Percy though. Let's see. Static maybe, if we're bein' serious. Long Shadow would be a fun joke since Percy's short and small. Lagoon Boy if we want to be mean.
Stanley as Black Hand: Uh, in a really tenuous way, you might say that Thomas interpreting Stanley's arrival as a threat to his position is sorta like Black Hand stealing Green Lantern ring energy. But I wouldn't. I think he'd look quite handsome as Aztek.
Tumblr media
Gordon as Darkseid: No.
Paxton as Lex Luthor: No, Diesel 10.
Luke as Beast Boy: Yes!
Edward as Arctic Batman: No, but that's a cute livery.
Sidney as Mister Miracle: No. If anyone should be Mister Miracle, a magician specializing in escape artistry, I think it should be Oliver.
Diesel as Captain Boomerang: Love it 'cause Diesel's bullshit always comes back around to him, don't it?
Diesel 10 as Deadshot: You know what? At first glace I was like "no", but actually, I'm like "yeah". 'Cause see, on the one hand, Deadshot is an impeccable marksman whereas Diesel 10 can hardly control his hydraulic arm at all, such that he gave it a name and treats it as if it has a mind of its own. On the other hand, Deadshot is a tactical genius and (ignoring The Magic Railroad) Diesel 10 is too. For a train, anyway. Deadshot is also a demolitions expert and Diesel 10 once inadvertently set the Dieselworks on fire. Overall, yeah, I like this match for its irreverent play on parallel.
Millie as Bumblebee: Yyyyyeah, okay. Millie is one of the more capable trains (it's why she's in charge of the Estate Railway) and she has a similar sensibility to Bumblebee. Not completely deadpan, able to joke and have fun, but takes the job seriously.
Thomas as Superman: Nope.
Tumblr media
Bert as Shazam!: They gave 'Arry Shazam the year previous, but I'm really thinking Phillip would be the best Shazam. Phillip might not have been on the show yet, but he's perfect for Shazam. As for Bert, since I suggested Metallo for 'Arry, how about a wild card match: Steel. Those two fought once and they're both metal-themed. If we're disregarding matched pairs, I think one or the other of them would also make a good Orion.
James as Flash: Yes, perfect.
Skarloey as Arsenal: I want to say no, but there is a little bit there maybe. Skarloey gettin' his extra wheels and new cab is a little like Arsenal getting his hotshit robot arm. And Arsenal is kind of a dickhead for a while while he gets over hisself. I don't know if Arsenal is who I'd pick for Skarloey, but there's at least a tenuous logic.
Victor as Hawkman: No, make my boy Red Tornado!
Scruff as Armor Batman: Nnnnno, I don't think so. Still voting that Scruff would make a cute Creeper.
Ferdinand as Mr. Freeze: Actually, I wouldn't say no to Porter as Mr. Freeze. That'd be quite apt. But I maintain, Ferdinand oughta be Lobo.
Charlie as the Riddler: Yes!
Emily as Vixen: No. Nia would make a fun Vixen because the thing about Vixen is she has animal powers, but she's actually never been in the jungle and has no survivalist knowledge at all. She's a fashion model and lives in a loft in Chelsea.
Salty as Clark Kent: I have a tenuous thought about this which is, Salty is always tellin' his yarns and these dumbass trains believe him which is quite similar to Superman putting on a pair of glasses and telling people he's not Superman and they believe him too. So yeah, all right.

What do you think of Justice League: Gods and Monsters? Especially its version of Superman.
Of the movie in general I'm a fan. It's the only post-DCAU work from Timm that made me believe that he's got some of his old spark remaining inside.
Tumblr media
Story moves at a rapid pace so you don't get to spend as much time in this universe as I'd like. But what's there is solid and works within the timeframe given. Someone is framing the Justice League for murders of scientists, scientists who are all connected to a mysterious "Project: Fair Play". Sounds like a typical Justice League story, except this isn't your typical Justice League. Instead of the Trinity we know, here Superman is the son of Zod, Batman is a vampire, and Wonder Woman is a princess of the New Gods. Other differences abound, such as a Lex Luthor who is older and not power hungry, Amanda Waller being the President, Lois Lane not being in Superman's corner, and more. Such a shame that we never got to see this movie spun out into a full fledged animated universe the way Timm clearly was hoping, because the world building is in place to support a JL show.
Animation here is in the Timm-DCAU style and that helps the quality level markedly. Fight scenes are on par with some of the best in the DCAU, particularly the final fight at the end between Superman and the Metal Men. I'm not one for nostalgia over the DCAU but watching this movie, I must admit greater appreciation for how Timm's style results in more fluid animation. The DCAMU struggled to animate the more detailed style of that universe in ways that often led to choppy fight sequences, and watching a return to the old style helped me understand why many disliked the change. Think this was also one of Andrea Romero's last animated projects, and as expected from anything with her involvement, the voice acting was great.
I talked already about Superman here, and this movie's take on Batman and Wonder Woman are just as enjoyable twists on familiar archetypes.
Tumblr media
Batman is still a weird figure of the night, and also someone who is connected to the traditional Batman Mythos: Kirk Langstrom who is normally Man-Bat. Not the first time Batman has been a vampire but Kirk being the man under the cowl makes for an intriguing change. For one he's a killer who feeds on criminals in order to sate his bloodlust, but isn't a sadist like most killer Batmen become. While he and Bruce have similar issues with social interaction, Kirk is less messed up emotionally because he isn't motivated by trauma. Telling Tina that he cares for her and won't let any harm come to her is that kind of confession that takes Bruce enormous effort, but Kirk makes it look easy despite his default emotional tone being rather deadpan. While Hernan gets focus as well it's really Kirk who is the main protagonist given he has direct ties to the villain responsible for framing the League, and is the one who takes point investigating the connection between the victims.
In line with her counterparts, Wonder Woman is similarly still a Princess from a utopian society blessed with divine powers. Furthermore she abandons her perfect home because of her love for a man. Unlike Diana however, Bekka is a deity herself, and a New God instead of a champion of the Old Gods. Her "man" is Orion of Apokolips, and it's his death which she helps facilitate that convinces her to break ties with New Genesis and flee to Earth. She's less kill happy than her teammates, or even when regular Diana is waving around a sword, and also less uptight and regal. Sad to say but while I think Timm had good ideas about Bekka, and I would love to see another movie or a series that picks up where this movie leaves her, much like her DCAU counterpart she is the weakest of the Trinity character-wise. Hernan and Kirk get little characters arcs that leave them in different places by the end, while Bekka doesn't change, something she acknowledges herself at the end. Clearly Timm wanted to do more with her which sadly doesn't seem likely to happen.
Far as Elseworlds go I thought this was one of the better ones, certainly a much more nuanced and interesting take than I would've expected from Timm. If we had only gotten the shorts/series he had planned I think this absolutely could be a universe strong enough to support further stories. Definitely recommend it as one of the "good" DC animated movies for anyone looking to kill an hour or two.

The Feel of the universe
To start I want everything to feel extremely different. who ever the directors are I  want them to bring their unique vision to each project and character. However Worlds Finest by mark wade and art by Dan Mora is close to how id like an overall tone/feel.
For the Characters Costumes; Batman and the bat family I imagine that they have very classic cloth like costumes with armor  reinforcements underneath and some on top such as the symbols or gauntlets. (think Ben aflecks suit but not made from tires)
Superman was another easy one for me. I want him to look similar to how Christopher Reeves looked back in superman ‘78. however I’d prefer more visible stitching because I like the Idea that Ma Kent made it. I would also like the Fleischer logo but that's just a personal preference.
Wonder Woman and the justice society was a Hard one for me to think of. However, I think wonder woman in this should have a hard Greek inspired costume in this first movie. The justice society should look similar to how they do in Star girl with characters like hawk man or Dr.Fate looking closer to black Adam so that they stand out.
The green lanterns took the longest to figure out and i still have no clue what they should look like. I don't like the idea of an all CG suit again. However I would like a CG  emblem or lining/piping that glows brighter with the more “will” they're using.
Finally for phase one is the flash which was unironically the hardest Ive had to come up with. but I feel like it should look similar to the bat family suits. its made out of a fireproof cloth he stole, it has armor padding similar to pads for rollerblading and the cowl is more helmet like with gold boots

So while everyone is looking at the "what if" mature Scooby-Doo shows, I wanted to take a look back at previous version to find something interesting in the past. I found two fun things I wanted to share. The first is the number of crossover series they have had with IRL people. Not just the movies like the WWE or Kiss crossovers, I'm talking about tv shows. Keep in mind I haven't completetly seen these series. But I have done some research on them. This was originally gonna be a deep dive into scooby doo history, and now it turned into Scooby Doo stuff I thought was cool after reading the Wikipedia First up, The New Scooby Doo Movies
Don't let the title trick you, this is the follow-up tv show from the original Scooby-Doo Where Are You. This show was a hour long broadcast every episode, and each featured a guest character, with some repeats in its 2 season run with a total of 24 episodes (16 and 8 if you're curious) and the listings are wild. Some makes sense, The Addams Family (which is the only episode not to get a home release due to disputes with the Addams Family) dealing with a missing Wednesday Addams and an evil vulture. Other make some less sense, like when they worked with the Three Stooges. But some are outright bizarre, like the THREE 40 MINUTE EPISODES WITH THE HARLEM GLOBETROTTERS. None of which involved basketball, but two that involved being on ships. Not to mention the Batman and Robin episodes.
A similar series was made rather from 2019 to 2021 recently which I didn't know about before watching. Scooby-Doo and Guess Who?
Same concept as before, but in a modern days with new characters. I think the reason I didn't hear about this was cause it jumped from Cartoon Network, to Boomerang, to finally finishing its second season on HBO max. With twice as many episodes across its run it has some gems of insanity. More DC characters, like Flash, Wonder Woman, as well as Alex Trebek, Macklemore, their voice actors Joey Chestnut, Morgan Freeman Jeff Foxworthy, Neil deGrasse Tyson and Bill Nye just to name a few.
Now for the darkest story in any scooby doo property. It completely reimagined all of the characters as adults. Featured dark themes and was the first comic series to receive a teen rating. It was so crazy, that Warner Brothers got mad at DC comics for the reimagining. It ran for 36 issues and is everything you'd want in an insane, mature, reimagining of the scooby doo franchise that follows a different formula. It is...
Tumblr media
Scooby Doo Apocalypse ran from 2016 to 2019. It featured a horrifying monster apocalypses which the team work together to survive and solve the mysteries of it. Daphne and Fred are both a Journalist and her Cameraman respectively. Velma is a scientist who was trying to expose the nanites that caused people to mutate into monsters, Shaggy was a dog handler for the same corporation, handling a different project training smart dogs, such as Scooby. It also is the most recent appearance of Scrappy Doo I believe, and it takes his character in an interesting new direction. Its intense, people die, and its something I highly recommend. I may expand on it in another post. It may not be for everyone but I think there is something worth seeing in it.
It was a dark storying line for a more mature audience, with different version of the characters we are familiar with, in a non-traditional format and formula. Something that some shows can learn from. Even though it was canceled, it received just enough time to get a proper ending to the story.
Feel free to reblog with other cool and interesting scooby doo shows movies, or series that might be lesser known but still are interesting and different from the traditional.

I have found this just chilling in my drafts and well who doesn't want more of me bitching about Jason's design (2 of these are literally just that but hey there's some there that's not)
I likely have way more controversial opinions than this but considering this has been laying in my drafts unfinished for a few weeks now I can't be bothered thinking of more to add to here you go.
_____________________________________
Want more ot my controversial DC Comics (mostly Batman) takes? No? Too bad this is my blog.
Red head Jason Todd is a crime against humanity and fans who call for its return can eat my shoe. Jason's designs in DC Rebirth, Under the Red Hood movie and the Arkham series are all perfect blueprints for what Jason Todd should always look like. I don't need them to turn him into a Roy Harper clone (especially not now that Roy is literally one of Jason's best friends). Also the argument that red head Jason is canon bothers me since the origin in which he had red hair was quite quickly retconned and every version of Jason's actual canon origin story he's always had black or dark brown hair in it.
Wonder Woman is the actual darkest and most violent of the Trinity because she can and will go to places and do things Batman or Superman will not. That doesn't make them worse characters than her but the idea that Batman is the dark, gritty one is laughable when Diana will snap a man's neck. Diana has literally went to war, she has seen and done things her colleagues could only imagine.
Harley Quinn is not the most deserving of Batman's rogues gallery for a redemption arc and let's all be real if she wasn't attractive with a sad backstory she wouldn't be constantly being pushed in both the mainstream and the comics as more of an antihero than a villain. Mr Freeze and Poison Ivy are both better contenders for antihero status but they've both been tainted in the mainstream by the Schumacher film.
Back to bitching about bad Jason Todd designs but eh Red Hood should ALWAYS have a helmet. None of this half mask/domino mask bullshit with an actual hood up. The only time a Red Hood design with an actual hood up has looked good was Arkham. The peak Red Hood design is brown leather jacket, tactical vest underneath with red bat symbol, gun holsters in a similar colour to his jacket, military grade trousers with knee and shin guards, boots to match the jacket AND A RED HELMET. More New52/Early DC Rebirth Outlaws design and less Gotham Wars please and thank you.
Barbara Gordon should never have returned to being Batgirl. Now listen I love Babs, the Gotham Knights quartet of Dick, Babs, Jason and Tim are arguably my favourite group of characters in DC comics. But Babs as Oracle was iconic, I'm aware she's still doing her work as Oracle alongside Batgirl but I don't like that, it's making her juggle too much. Babs as Oracle almost put her on an equal or even greater standing than Bruce within the Bat Family. Like ok he was the patriarch of the Family, he started it but Babs RAN it, nothing got done in that family without Oracle's say so. And I just felt that her being paralysed by the Joker, yet still finding a way to work around her injury and continue to help fight crime in her own way, a way only she could was very empowering. Barbara Gordon was the role model young girls needed and while she is still that as Batgirl I think it was just that little bit more impactful as just Oracle.

Con Man's Daughter
Posting this because there isn't enough biodad! John Constantine content.
[Masterlist]
(Part 2)
-----
I feel like this should be a Damianette story or just platonic relationship after Jon got aged-up to seventeen and Damian wanted a friend his age but doesn’t want to admit it.
So basically there is this big bad in Gotham using magic that Batman was fighting at the time and enlisted John Constantine to help out.
John realizes that the villain is using a Miraculous.
“Oh. I think I know how he gets his powers. And lucky for you, Bats, I know an expert on this special brand of magic.”
And he did the smart thing and called up Marinette who at the time was already Guardian and was looking for other lost Miraculouses like in the Treasure Hunter AU I wrote.
He calls her at a really bad time. She was in the process of being chased by the guardians of the place. Monsters and evil spirits.
“Hello, Dad. What do you need and can you do it quickly?”
“Hey, sweetheart, it’s me. How is my little cupcake up to these days?”
“You called at a bad time.” Gunshots.
“WAS THAT A GUN I HEARD? WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU, YOUNG LADY?!”
“Somewhere in Japan. Getting a Miraculous. And why can’t you call me to check in on me and not ask me to help you with whatever mess you got yourself into.” More gunshots sounds and it was telling that Marinette was using a gun.
“Where did you get a gun? And don’t you have school?”
“It’s summer break. Don’t worry Maman and Papa know. Well, the fact that I am in Japan anyways.” Marinette sounded a little out of breath. Roaring and horrifying sounds at the other end. “Can we do this later?”
“As it happens, there is a villain going around Gotham with what I think is a Miraculous.”
Swears on the other end.
“Oi. Watch your fucking language, young lady.”
“How about a No and move the fuck back, old man. I am coming over right now.”
“Old man? I am not that old-” as a magic blue portal opens up in the Bat Cave.
And a red Chinese dragon comes out with someone riding it.
Its rider was a black-haired girl. She had a trench coat similar to Constantine's. I imagine her with a fedora. Like Carmen Sandiego style but not red. Sometimes red but only when she has to steal it from a museum or high security places and she leaves a name card with the name Carmen Sandiego. A sword strapped to her back and a dagger to her thigh.
She had a gun in her hand which she used to shoot the monsters as it was halfway through the portal and yelled out the spell to close it.
“Brilliant entrance but you are in lots of trouble, little lady. What were you thinking about going to another country unsupervised? And isn’t there still a butterfly problem in Paris?”
“One, I wasn’t unsupervised. I had Tikki, a billion years old being and a sort of god. Two.Well, it got boring trying to track Hawk-bitch down. And I found this legend about a guy with a Miraculous who disappeared in the temple and thought hey, more miraculous could mean another edge to defeating Moth-man.”
More bickering and John grounding Marinette who was acting very nonchalant about it.
Okay, at this point, I should say that Batman and Robin are in the background trying to make some sense.
Batman is surprised to find out that Constantine has a daughter who is also involved in magic like her Father but an apparently more specialised kind called the Miraculous. He is a little miffed that he didn’t know about John having a daughter. He did consider it weird at first that she had a slight french accent unlike her father’s Liverpool accent although she pronounced some words like he does.
He also connected some dots that she is also the Parisian heroine, Lady Rouge who Wonder Woman introduced to the League a while back and had declined to join the Young Justice or Teen Titans until everything in Paris was resolved.
Damian on the other hand was suspicious of the new arrival and came to the same conclusion as his father about the daughter thing.
Batman after a few minutes, clears his throat.
The Constantines stop arguing.
“Bonjour. Batman. Robin. Pleasure to meet you. I am Mari Constantine and yes, I am this homeless looking man’s brilliant daughter.” “Hey”
“Well, Mari. Your father thinks you can help us with this new criminal turning Gotham upside down. Literally in some cases. He said that you might be able to help us.” Batman said as he pulled up zoomed in picture of the Miraculous.
Mari looks through the Miraculous grimoire and tells them all about it and power-ups, basically the most effective thing to defeat the guy is to get the Miraculous off them. Plus a spell that would make the Miraculous ineffective if casted within a certain radius of it.
“Thank you for the information, Mari. Constantine, let’s go.”
Mari made to follow them.
“You young lady are grounded and staying here.”
“I don’t need another supervillain using the Miraculous which are my responsibility as Guardian to retrieve them for their own misuse and wreaking havoc on the city. And what if there is an akuma in Paris? I can’t go there if I am grounded in the Batcave although it is a cool place to hang out.”
“You can portal back to Paris but you are not going to follow me. Understood?”
“yes. crystal”
“Good. After me and Batsy get the Miraculous, you can do your Guardian duties.”
Damian snickers. Until Batman cut his mood short, “You are staying behind too. Robin.”
“But Father, why? I am much more capable than Constantine.”
“Hey!” Both father and daughter.
Damian is staying behind too because of the Miraculous power or other reasons and keeps an eye on Mari.
Damian stays behind and there were some protests about mari mad about having a babysitter and Damian doesn’t want to be a babysitter. Despite the two of them being around the same age.
“I got an eye on you so no funny business.”
“Okay, Dad, I am not going to have sex with Robin.” Mari said with a shit- eating grin. Robin definitely didn’t blush.
“I hate you sometimes.”
“I love you too, Dad. Go save the world. Byee.”
John eyes her suspiciously because she is not one to give up that easily usually.
He casts a spell to watch her as they leave. and which she totally knew about.
“So...I have one question.”
“Tt, ask and don’t bother me anymore.”
“Is Batman Bruce Wayne?”
Damian looks up, totally caught off guard.
“I am going to take that as a yes.”
Puts sword at her neck. “How did you find out?!”
“Opened up Google Maps and saw that we are under Wayne Manor. Connected the dots. Also I already knew when Dad made a bet with me once to find out Batman’s secret identity but he never did confirm it for me. And can you please not tell your father about this? I don’t feel like being interrogated by the Bat in the future yet.”
“Father must know about this.”
“I saw you looking at Scarlet here. An animal lover then? You can give her some belly rubs. She deserves it after helping me outrun those monsters.”
His silence was brought. To pet a dragon.
One thing after another and he ends up bringing out his pets-Jerry the turkey, Goliath the dragon-bat, Titus- and her introducing him to her other pets like a hellhound, griffin and other mythical creatures who mostly roam free but come to her when she calls for them and also the kwamis, at least the ones who came with her.
After 30 mins have passed, “So Robin how do you feel about disobeying our fathers?”
“I am in.”
“Depends. Are we going after the (villain's name) ?”
“Yes.”
Awesome montage of them getting rid of the spell John casted and flying out of the Batcave on their respective giant flying pets to the villain’s base.
Meanwhile, their fathers are not doing so well and are trapped in a death trap. John can’t say the spell because the villain made him unable to talk.
“At least, the kids are staying put.”
Cut to Damian and Mari jumping off their pets and onto the roof. Taking out the guards posted there and going into the building all sneakily and also taking out the guards that come their way.
They dropped into the room where their fathers and the villain is.
“Why am I not surprised?”
Villain starts an evil monologue about his mastermind plan to which Damian cuts it short by trying to cut him down with his katana. Mari goes to deactivate the death trap.
They are evenly matched with Damian’s training and the Miraculous.
Mari steps in as Damian was about to be killed. Taps on the shoulder of the villain and when he turns around, gives an awesome right hook that knocks him out.
Takes away the Miraculous and curses him. Wiped the dude’s memories of it.
“When I said stay in the Batcave, I meant stay behind at the Batcave. What point of being grounded, don’t you understand?”
“You mean, Oh, Mari, light of my life, my wonderful daughter, thank you for saving my ass. You are the best.’ by that, right?”
-----
Mari and Damian exchanged numbers and email addresses.
As she was about to leave the Batcave, “It’s been nice meeting you, Mr. Wayne.” and leaves with a wink.
John ‘ungrounds’ her for the look on Batman’s face.
-----
After this, Marinette and Damian become friends who bitch and vent to each other about their alter egos and various villains of their respective cities. (In codes, just in case) They also share updates about their pets and love of drawings.
They have that type of friendship where they trade favors. Mari calls Damian to Paris sometimes to help out with the akuma of the day and Damian sometimes calls her in when Bruce doesn’t let him go investigate a case so he can sneak out by magical means or as back up for when his brothers were too annoying to deal with.
It’s summer break so no missing school.
John and Bruce are aware of their friendship and some of the shenanigans the pair gets into behind their back.

Right. how this all started...
John and Sabine first met when the latter was still in college somewhere in France. John was tracking down a demonic entity which was targeting Sabine for some reason and she was the next target.
John saved her life and exorcised the demon. There was a heat of the moment thing and they had a one-night stand. There were a few more flings and hook-ups after that night.
And nine months later, Marinette Cheryl Cheng-Constantine was born.
When Sabine first found out, she called John to come over and he thought that it was a call for another hook-up and was very surprised to find out that it was not and that he was going to be a father.
They both like each other but do not want to be in a relationship together so they both remained as friends and John agreed after some strong-arming at the very least to meet his daughter before he goes to do his job. And pay for child support. And help Sabine during her pregnancy.
Pregnant Sabine was someone you don’t want to mess with. And John has never met a demon or anyone scarier than her.
He was at first not into meeting his child and there was a self-pity party he threw himself with how the child was going to live a bad life because he was the dad and how he destroyed every good thing in his life.
That’s why he is going to meet the baby once and leave maybe a letter and the occasional birthday present and stay out of their life. Forever.
The day Marinette was born and it took one look into her eyes for the HellBlazer to fall under the spell and all of his plans to stay out of her life to burn away.
At first, he tried. He really tried but he couldn’t do it.
Lasted 4 months before he came back, wanting to place protection spells on her and sigils around the house to keep away the forces of Heaven and Hell and other entities so they won’t use her against him as a bargaining chip.
Sabine calls him to babysit. He could have refused and Sabine would have easily found a babysitter. He moans and whines about how he is a great mage and not a bloody babysitter. Sabine retorts that it is actually called parenting since he is Marinette’s father. He grumbles but in the end, agrees.
The great John Constantine is wrapped around the little girl’s finger.
He was around for some of Marinette’s firsts. Her first word was “John”.
It made him cry. He wasn’t a good man and he doesn’t deserve someone this precious. His daughter doesn’t deserve someone like him as a father but fate made it that way and what can you do about it.
After an exhausting week of doing the usual and coming back from Hell, he saw that Sabine had sent him a video. It was Marinette taking her first steps.
Chas swears that in all the years that he has known John Constantine he has never seen the man look so happy.
------
When Tom came into the picture, John was there to take care of a toddler Marinette while Tom and Sabine went on dates.
Insert John threatening a much bigger Tom while holding a baby Marinette with wide eyes and hugging a teddy bear with the same coat as John’s. (It was something Sabine brought on a whim and to tease John when he came around.)
Tom is supportive and treats Marinette like his own flesh and blood.
John resolved to leave for good now that Tom would be there to be a father figure for Marinette.
That plan fell into the drain the moment he was going to leave for what was supposed to be the last time before Sabine pulled him back and knocked some sense into him.
His face was a big giveaway. Sabine knows that despite his claims of being a terrible father for Marinette, he was a good one and damnit she was going to make sure that Marinette would get to know her actual father.
Tom later made an awkward talk with John about how he was not going to replace John’s role as Marinette’s father.
Marinette was the flower girl at Tom and Sabine’s wedding. John was there too.
During bedtime, John would read her stories and use his magic to make it come to life. Although he would feel a little drained afterwards, it was worth it to see her smile.
Sometimes he told stories about his tamer adventures. (After cutting out some of the inappropriate bits)
------
When Marinette was about 5 or 6, Sabine was out on an errand and Tom was at home with Mari and helping her with her homework. There was a crash downstairs at the bakery. Tom went down to check it out to find John lying on the ground.
With a weak cough, he said, “Close the door. Close it.” Before losing consciousness
Tom did before a man with pitch black eyes slammed against it.
Thankfully John had installed heavy wards around the bakery when it first opened.
They held against the demon on John’s tail. Tom brought John inside and unsure of what to do, grabbed a rolling pin on the counter.
The man outside started pounding on the glass door and every time his hands touched the door, light glowed outwards, showing the invisible magic barrier around the bakery. Sparks and steams fizzled with every pound.
Despite the reddening and burns of his hands, the not-human didn’t slow down.
“ʝօɦռ....ʏօʊ ӄռօա ȶɦǟȶ ɨȶ'ֆ օռʟʏ ǟ ʍǟȶȶɛʀ օʄ ȶɨʍɛ ɮɛʄօʀɛ ɨ ɮʀɛǟӄ ȶɦʀօʊɢɦ ȶɦɛֆɛ աǟʀɖֆ. օռƈɛ ɨ ɢɛȶ ʏօʊ,” He laughs, the sound sends chills down the large man’s spine, “ȶɦɛʀɛ ǟʀɛ ֆօ ʍǟռʏ ȶɦɨռɢֆ ɨ ɦǟʋɛ քʟǟռռɛɖ ʄօʀ ʏօʊ.”
Tom knew that Marinette’s father was a con man. Come on, Master and Practitioner of the Dark Arts and Occult. But he was a good father nonetheless despite all his flaws and Sabine liked him enough so that was good enough for him.
Before today, magic was just the sleight of hands and use of fancy tools to sell the illusions. Now, with a could-be-a-demon knocking on his door to get to the father of the girl he sees as his daughter, he’s not so sure.
“Tom? Qu'est-ce qui se passe? (What’s going on?)” A little voice came from the stairs, “Dad!” Marinette padded across the floor to the body of her passed out father.
She shook him awake and there were a few soft slaps to the face.
“Dad, what’s happened?”
John mumbles, “Demon…. possessing some rich guy….. Exorcism…. Doesn’t like me very much…Don’t worry...wards going to hold.”
John manages to stand before falling down and Tom catches him before he hits the floor. He has a concussion. Tom turns to Marinette, “Go, Hide and don’t come out until It’s safe.” which she did
Unfortunately, a while later, Sabine returns from her night out and the demon upon seeing Sabine. “ɛӼƈɛʟʟɛռȶ..”
The demon possessed Sabine and the previously possessed dude hit the sidewalk with a thud.
“ɨռȶɛʀɛֆȶɨռɢ....” The voice coming out of Sabine didn’t sound like her mother which scared Marinette a lot. “օքɛռ ȶɦɨֆ ɖօօʀ օʀ,”the demon pulled a knife out of thin air, ,“ȶɦɨֆ ɮօɖʏ ɢɛȶֆ ɨȶ.”
Tom hesitated until the demon put the knife on Sabine’s neck and put enough force for a thin line of blood to be shown.
He opens the door and the demon knocks him out. Stepping over his unconscious body and looking down on it, “ʄօʀ ȶɦǟȶ, ɨ ǟʍ ɢօɨռɢ ȶօ ʟɛȶ ʏօʊ ʟɨʋɛ ʊռȶɨʟ ɨ ǟʍ ɖօռɛ աɨȶɦ ʝօɦռ, օʄ ƈօʊʀֆɛ.” and cackles. The sound was so wrong and unnerving and little Marinette tried very hard for her sobs not to be heard.
Too bad the demon had super hearing. “Come out, my little blossom. Maman is home. Why don’t you come out and give me a hug?”
It sounded so much like her mother and she nearly believed that it was her mother and not some entity in control of her body.
But she knew better from John’s stories of dealing with demons and how they would use the voice of loved ones to lure them out and into a trap. (Definitely not something one should tell as a bedtime story but Marinette was very different and had an unconventional childhood with John Constantine as her father.)
Wait...she got struck with an idea but she wasn’t sure if it would work.
Before she could do anything, the door of the cabinet she was hiding in was opened and she was dragged out.
The demon lifted her a few feet above the ground by the collar of her dress.
It heard Marinette saying something. “աɦǟȶ ǟʀɛ ʏօʊ ֆǟʏɨռɢ ƈɦɨʟɖ, ֆքɛǟӄ ʟօʊɖɛʀ?”
“Exorcizamus te, omnis immundus spiritus, omnis satanica potestas, omnis incursio infernalis adversarii, omnis legio, omnis congregatio et secta diabolica.” Marinette was now screaming the words at the top of her lungs. She repeated the spell over and over again with fierce determination.
John, being his paranoid self, taught her the spell for an exorcism, just in case. Demons spared no one, not even a girl.
It screamed “NO….” as Sabine’s body contorted in strange angles before a dark shadow seemed to be dragged down into the ground. It made a desperate attempt to possess John before it was pulled away and disappeared. There was no sign that there was a demon attack.
After John woke up, he managed to piece together that his 5-years-old (Sorry 5 and a half) daughter sent a demon back to hell.
He was a very proud dad. (He was a tad worried about the consequences from this event and demons hold one hell of a grudge. He wanted his daughter to live a very safe and happy life. The bakery’s wards also need an upgrade.)
He also got the job of explaining what he actually did to Tom. And lots of reassuring.
Sabine, on one hand, was not happy that Marinette knew how to do magic. That is until John told her that he did it just in case so she can protect herself and later it was agreed that Marinette can learn some Magic spells and charms to better protect herself and when she is older, she can decide if she wants to continue or not.

Hey, I just discovered the yandere dynamic and I found your blog searching for headcanons and I am Hooked!! Do you remember the Platonic! Batman + Wonder Woman + Superman yandere headcanon you did a while ago with the reader being a new family member? Could you do a part 2 maybe? Especially when the reader wakes up with the three of them hovering and also how daily life would be? Thank you so much !
Yeeeaaahhh boiiii (did this with a hero reader in mind)
= = =
Tumblr media
The first few weeks with them are what i like to call: loving anxiety weeks. The two most different yet similar feelings in the world. Its like when you get a new phone and your too scared to even set it down.
yeah, thats them with you.
but like x100000
Clark is a lot to deal with, he constanly wants to be around you 24/7. This delusional man-child is almost always seen by your side, copying exactly what your doing.
If your reading, hes suddenly very invested in a new book. Watching tv? Great! He loves this show. Oh, training with Diana? Look at the cool fighting move he can do!!!
its a lot to deal with Clark, but dammit!! Clark just loves his kid so damn much!!
There will be times where your feeling overwhelmed by Clarks’ constant presence
In those times, Bruce and Diana are your saving grace
Bruce, at times, could be described as cold. He likes his time alone, as a matter of fact, hes used to being alone rip Alfred
But that does not mean hes neglectful. It just means that at times were Clark is being over-emotinal and smothering, and Diana is training you, Bruce is left feeling. . . . unimportant. But, he will never abandon you. His parents left him and now look at him! But Bruce wants you to live better, to be better.
So he stays. He becomes the loving father he is, with you. And it feels natural. It feels good. Bruce believes that you make him a better person, and he loves you for that. So, he’ll give you anything you want.
Whenever you need something, Bruce just happens to have it. He’s big on gift giving.
Any times your stressed, upset, or angry, hes always there. Whether it be as a shoulder to cry one, a word of advice, or just a fatherly hug, Bruce is there. He watches over you, both literally and figuratively.
He’s probably the one who takes you out of the house the most. If the manor is especially tense, Bruce will take you out to his favourite diner, or his favourite park. In those moment, you two genuinely feel like family
Clark sometimes just invites himself and ruins the moment
Diana is your savior. Shes like when you flip your pillow over to the cooler side on a hot night. You may think that because she is the one who dishes out the punishments, that she would be cruel. But, shes the farthest thing from it. She is the middle ground. The purest example of a mother figure.
Her love is hard earned, but when it is earned,  she loves so deeply.
During the tense times in the family, Diana takes it upon herself to be adult of the situation. She’s the easiest to talk to because she actually lets you talk.
Of course, there are times where even she loses her cool. And it’s scary. But there’s levels to it. First, she’ll get huffy, cutting you off to get her point in. Her voice is strong and demanding, you’ll just naturally shut up. Second, if your still going she makes herself bigger. Standing straighter, rolling her shoulders back, craning her neck. Anything to tell you to shut it, without actually saying it.
Thirdly, she yells.
I pray that you never go that far, because in those moments when Diana, your safe haven, is acting hysterical, who will save you?
You find that enjoying your life with them is truly an art. You learn quickly what words bring them the upmost joy, the ones that bring you the most pain, and which ones break their illusion of a perfect family. You begin to notice little things. Like how the three of them are more willing to give you whatever you want when you call them “mom” or “dad.” You learn what buttons of theirs to press at the right times, which floor boards make the most noise, what door creaks the most.
You learn quickly that escaping with your life isn’t something that will ever happen. But with how selfish Clark is, and indifferent Bruce and intense Diana is, how desperate are you?

The brothers' movie
11/07/2015
Tumblr media
They don't use the same last name, but they are siblings. Pedro Pascal (40) the Chilean actor who starred in Game of Thrones and now has a starring role in the Netflix series Narcos, uses his mother's surname because it is easier to pronounce in English. 17 years younger, Lucas Balmaceda Pascal (23), also an actor, debuted in Los 80 and today stars in the TVN series Juana Brava. Here, both talk for the first time about their relationship, their love for cinema and their mutual admiration.
José Pedro Balmaceda Pascal was born in Chile, but a few months later he had to go into exile with his parents and his older sister, Javiera, to Denmark. It was the end of 1975. Thanks to the Rockefeller scholarship granted for his father, the doctor José Balmaceda Riera, a year later they moved to the United States: first they lived in San Antonio, Texas. Life there was just beginning and it was not easy.
Seventeen years later, in 1992, Lucas Balmaceda was born in Orange County, California, into the comfort of a family that was financially in its prime. His dad was at the peak of his career: as a fertility specialist and director of one of the University of California's reproductive health centers. But suddenly they moved back to Chile when Lucas was three years old and his brother Nicolas was eight. The two older ones stayed there. Pedro was already studying drama at Orange County High School of the Arts. Then he went to New York to study theater at the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University.
After a couple of small appearances in TV series, in 2014 he took the big leap in his career: he played Prince Oberyn in Game of Thrones, which made him world famous. Today, he has a starring role in the series Narcos. He is also filming a movie with Matt Damon and Willem Dafoe.
Fame came early for Lucas. After leaving Saint George High School in 2010, he studied theater at the Universidad Católica, and he began to shine: in year fourth, he starred in the theater play "La noche obstinada", by choreographer Pablo Rotemberg, and got a role in the successful television series Los 80 and today, in his last year, he is the co-star of Juana Brava, the new TVN nighttime series.
Scene one:
Lucas appears in Pedro's life
P: "I was 17 when Lucas was born. He was a baby when I left to go to university. I remember my first visit back and Lucas, who was not even two years old, was already the owner of the house. I remember those looks, wanting to tell me: 'I don't know who you are, but this is my house, mate.
To this day I have never seen that personality in another child. It was fascinating to see that wit in someone so small. Since he was a kid he had that fierce intelligence... The four siblings, Javiera, the eldest and the queen of the family; Nicolas, the doctor; Lucas and I are like a compact and consistent unit. I can't imagine life without them".
L: "Pedro was studying at the university in New York when I was born. When he went home for vacations to see the family, as I didn't know him, I thought: 'who is this guest, who is this weirdo who kisses my mother? She's mine!'. Back in Chile, every year Pedro came to visit us. It was the most entertaining thing in the world for me. He was much older and he would come with all the coolness, with all the culture of cinema, with horror movies that were not available here. Then we would watch them and play them out, we would do sketches. We would play that Pedro was a murderous monster and we would escape from him. We were each a character. He was very funny, he did voices, he impersonated people. He gets mad when I tell him, but I've always found that he has a Jim Carrey thing about him, he manages to make some impressive faces. When he came on, I couldn't stop watching him, he was too entertaining. We are all big movie buffs thanks to my dad. When I was three years old, he took my brothers and me to see Batman. I remember crying hysterically. I was very young, sensitive, and being in the cinema was like entering to another reality: loud noises, giant screen. I didn't understand anything.
Scene two
Transplanted
P: "What's Chilean about me and what's gringo about me is a very interesting question, because I don't think even at 40 years old I've been able to figure it out. I was raised and educated in the United States and socialized a lot with American pop culture, but Chilean pride has always been unwavering. My parents were exiled for eight years. So our visits to Chile were regular. My whole life I have lived in the United States and my whole life I have visited my relatives in Chile. However, since my siblings were raised in Chile, my connection to the country is much stronger today and it is something I am grateful for. Something that happens to me a lot is that when I say I've been in the U.S. my whole life, they say, "Well, you're a gringo then! And after a conversation in my fluent Spanish with a clear Chilean accent that same person turns around and says: I've been listening to you, you're Chilean!
L: "I am Chilean because I lived and grew up here since I was three years old, but at the same time I have a cultural disconnection: my parents lived 25 years in the United States, my brothers are gringos. My visual culture is super gringo, the TV shows I watched when I was a kid or the movies I watch to this day I understand them from that place: as an American. More than being born in the United States, I feel it's because of my family's background".
SCENE THREE:
The performance
P: "There were good years and bad years (when I started my acting career in the United States). Many years I was a waiter to supplement my income. But from a very young age I was auditioning for professional jobs. In my late twenties my career in the theater was relatively consistent. Then, when opportunities in television arose, I was consolidating and it became much easier to pay my expenses. I think that struggle, going through those situations, empowers you a lot and it's one of the things I'm enormously grateful for. And Game of Thrones was an incredible gift. It's the best role I've ever played and they're the best people I've ever worked with."
L: "It's Pedro's fault that I wanted to be an actor. But when I told him I wanted to study theater it was hard for him, more than anything, because he cares about me and studying theater is hard. You have to be very wise and have a super high self-esteem to take care of yourself. Pedro went through many things. If there is an actor who doesn't have contacts in the United States, it's him. Everything he has achieved is because of his work. That's why when people ask me why I don't go to the U.S., it's a resounding no. Being Pedro Pascal's little brother is not going to get me around the corner; I would have to be Tom Cruise's twin to achieve anything. Even so, Pedro had many failed career starts. In 2011, for example, he was offered a starring role in a series called Wonder Woman and it was eventually canceled. That's why, when Games of Thrones came up, I was like, wow! We were all freaking out, because Games of Thrones is like a worldwide trending topic. All the episodes he was in, we were all watching them together at my house, eating pizza or sushi."
SCENE FOUR:
Mutual lessons
P: "I try not to get too involved in anything Lucas does or how he does it. He has single-handedly created each of his experiences and is one of the most inspiring things I've ever seen. He loves his work and is continually developing his skills for television and theater, and eventually film. He executes like a real artist and, to be honest, it is more common for me to learn something from him than for him to learn something from me. I mean that very sincerely. Lucas reminds me to work hard and keeps me inspired. When I saw him in Los 80 I was incredibly proud, but not surprised. I was seeing something I had always known. The only advice I've given him is to not be such a workaholic, to take care of himself and to be proud of what he's accomplished and what he still has yet to accomplish. Deep down, I'm always going to be the protective big brother."
L: "Pedro is an object of admiration for me. What he says is law for me. Sometimes I ask him: 'Pedro, did you see that movie?' and he says: 'Yes, I didn't like it'. I tell him: 'Oh, I didn't like it either'. The nice thing about our relationship is that it happens so sporadically, once or twice a year, that the moments when we see each other are very intense. We either fight a lot or we love each other too much, but it's always like a story, like a movie. While he's there and I'm here, we talk a lot on WhatsApp and Facebook".
P: "With Lucas we always keep each other up to date on what movies to watch, what TV shows are good. I bug him all the time asking him about what's going on in his life and I'm always asking him about his perspective on things. Despite being away from each other for a long time, Lucas and I are very close and always have been. I see Lucas at the beginning of an amazing career, with an unwavering curiosity and passion. I love it when he confides in me about things he is enjoying or situations he is dealing with."
L: "I've never seen Pedro in theater, but I've been told he's tremendous. On camera, I find that he has a very intense look. He also has, and in that we are very similar, a very strong visual culture, the fact that we have always liked horror movies. He plays characters that hide something, dark characters. A great strength is that he is very sensual, he knows how to handle himself well from seduction".
P: "Lucas is brave, he's fearless. There's nothing he's not willing to try, he's never going to give up on a challenge, he's never going to leave something halfway, no matter what that means to him. Lucas is unstoppable.

So now we have “BatCatPussyGate” or whatever, and I have some thoughts on it—I mean, it does intersect with my area of research.
In case you missed it: a scene where Batman goes down on Catwoman was not included in the Harley Quinn animated series, because, basically, a Batman who gives oral is bad marketing, and makes merchandise hard to sell (they did use the word “toy” in the statement, but you just know they meant action figures aka collectibles aka whatever older male fans buy). It is not even the first such scandal involving Batman in recent years, but we’ll get to that later.
There is a LOT to unpack here, so let’s get started. I’ll try to make it as coherent as I can, but this post still might be a bit of a mess.
First of all, we have to make one thing clear in which Marvel and DC differ from each other (I think I might have talked about this before, but it bears repeating): it’s what I like to call “hierarchical structure of characters.” Basically, Marvel’s structure is like the nervous system: there are interconnected nodes, but no one, clearly defined center. The Avengers are important, but so are the X-Men, and Spider-Man, and the Fantastic Four… Plus Wolverine has been an X-Man and an Avenger, Spider-Man has his own lore, but he has been a member of the F4… you get the picture. A big pro of this structure is if that one node falls (a series doesn’t sell), it’s no big deal, because the system remains standing, so, basically, you can experiment with stories. If it doesn’t stick, it doesn’t stick, you move on. DC’s structure, on the other hand, is more like a spider web: you have the Holy Trinity—Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman—in the middle, and everything else connects through them. And if the center falls… everything falls. Which means that even though the Holy Trinity has HUGE cultural visibility (greater than of any single Marvel character), they are pretty much set in their ways. They cannot change much, because what they are now is what sells, and any significant change in representation might lead to failure, which then in turn would lead to the failure of the whole spider web. (I have a like 40 pages long paper on how, because of this, Wonder Woman needs to continuously appeal to both the male—sexualizing male gaze—and the female—identifying female gaze—gazes, compared to Carol Danvers, who keeps jumping between the two ends throughout her publication history.)
And within this scheme, Batman is the picture of hypermasculinity. He is powerful, intelligent, cannot do wrong, closed off from his emotions, and women fall for him, even if he cannot properly commit to a romantic relationship (this last thing is something that goes back to the Silver Age of comics, because male heroes just cannot have love, because nothing can be more important than their vigilantism, while female superheroes are lesser, because they are ready to hang up their capes for love).
Then what does academia has to say about this? Note: I’m going to be talking a lot about stuff that film criticism came up with, but since both movies and comics are a visual narrative medium, I’ve found that you can pretty much project everything about movies to comics.
So, first of all, one big shortcoming of feminist film criticism is that (not entirely unjustly) it is mostly focused on how women are portrayed in movies—especially how they are oppressed and objectified, while it leaves men/male characters… unstudied. Masculinity studies exists, but it’s pretty new and marginal. The availability of male bodies in film to the female gaze is also mostly unexamined (but I’ve dabbled in it! Talking about sexy male bodies in a detached academic manner is fun!), and it’s somewhat of a problem.
Richard Dyer studied the peculiarities of male pinups, and he came up with three instabilities: 1, it violates the codes of looking (because traditionally it’s the men who look, and women who are being looked at), 2, it rejects passivity (because being looked at is read as being passive, and the male body is supposed to be active, so, usually, male and female pinups are posed in a totally different way), and 3, it breaks the myth of the phallus (male power signified by the penis)—because once we start looking into it, we’ll discover that the phallus just… cannot live up to the hype. Therefore not studying the male body/male presence and focusing on the female body/presence actually serves the patriarchy, because the phallus can only keep its central, dominant position until it remains unexamined. Once we look into it, we discover that it’s not that great, and then we can displace patriarchy.
And then what does it mean in practice? Here comes the other Batman scandal I mentioned: about three years ago, DC came up with their new line of comics, where the big draw was the total lack of censoring. It was promised to be super bloody and full of gore and cursing and stuff. The first series of this line was Batman Damned, and the first issue featured the… batawang. I mean Batman’s penis. Returning from some mission, Batman starts undressing the moment he steps into the Batcave, stripping naked, and on some panels one can clearly see… little Bruce. It had no point. It could have easily been brushed out, and it would not have looked out of place. Or course, the internet had a field day with it, about the same way they are having a field day with his lack of oral sex now. It grew so big that within a couple of days DC announced that they’d airbrush out the batawang in the second printing and in any subsequently sold digital editions (which then caused the price of the first print editions skyrocket, to some $300, I believe). So to sum up: DC showed Batman’s penis for shock value. Seeing Batman’s penis wasn’t awe-inspiring, a show of power, but the butt of the joke—because examining the phallus shows that it cannot live up to the hype! So Batman’s power, his standing as a masculine ideal/male power fantasy was misplaced in a moment. (Something similar was happening behind the scenes of the Watchmen series as well: when Tom Mison had a full frontal nude scene, they actually used a penis-double—as there was no shot where his face and penis was shown at the same time—now imagine the casting for that role!)
In some way, this is happening now as well—not showing Batman performing oral sex is not because it “hurts toy sales;” it’s because it breaks the myth of the phallus, thus it breaks the myth of the Batman as an immaculate male power fantasy. Batman receives—power, admiration, and, of course, sex. But within the framework of sex, he needs to be the one that dominates, the one that mostly on the receiving end of the pleasure. What is important is that 1, he gets the woman and 2, he gets off. Whether the woman gets off is unimportant within this framework, because it doesn’t serve the myth of Batman/the male power fantasy. Within the fantasy, women need to want to sleep with him because he is Batman (because the male reader identifies with Batman, and he needs to feels as if the women in the comic want him just because he is him/Batman), but if he performs oral sex on the woman, it presupposes an active need for effort from his part from her to want him. It gives her agency, which elevates her to a partner, not an object to-be-looked-at.
So if Batman performs oral sex, his body will be put on display as something beyond the realm of the male power fantasy; it will be examined, and thus determined he is not all-powerful. His dominance within the narrative will be questioned. The role of the woman will be elevated. The patriarchal dominance displaced. So, yeah, that’s why Batman can’t give oral—not because it will hurt the toy sales.
I mean, it might. But because it will hurt Batman as a hypermasculine ideal

“I wish I knew how to help you” - Batsis x Batfamily
Synopsis : Everyone has tough times at some point in their lives. Bruce Wayne most definitely knows that. But when his own daughter is going through a really rough patch, he finds himself not really knowing how to fix things...
This particular subject has been requested so many times (the earliest request dating from August 2018....mmmm..), so watch me butcher it with bad writing. I thought, given how I feel lately, it was the perfect time to finally write it. I hope you will like it (runs away to hide) :
TW : Anxiety, depression, mention of suicide.
My Masterlist : @ella-ravenwood-archives.
__________________________________________________
There hasn’t been a lot of time in his life where Bruce Wayne felt so completely lost. Of course, he would be lying if he was saying he never got confused, or if sometimes, he wasn’t quite sure what to do, what to say...
But if there was one thing he was great at, it was problem solving.
Even in desperate situations, he could always trust his analytical and collected mind to help him out.
In fact, Bruce Wayne could count on the fingers of one hand the amount of times he felt utterly lost, defenseless, and couldn't figure out a solution to his troubles. Not even a questionable one, like bottling up all of his feelings and pretending he doesn’t care while he’s screaming and dying inside.
He recollected exactly five times of such an event occurring in his life :
The day his parents died.
The day he realized he couldn’t save everyone.
The day Dick came to live at the Manor, and Bruce realized he had no idea how to raise a child.
The day Jason died.
The day he saw Damian kill.
And now, spilling onto another hand :
...The day he realized he had no idea how to help his daughter, you, with her mental health struggles.
Each time he had been completely lost, there was someone to help him.
For his parents’ death, it was Alfred.
For the day he realized even as Batman he would never be able to save everyone ? It was Commissioner Gordon, and his years of being a cop in a city like Gotham.
Dick himself, and Alfred of course, quickly helped Bruce to understand what it meant to be a father.
Tim’s arrival helped him grieve Jason.
And all his children, from Dick to Cass, and the experience he acquired trying to raise them helped him manage Damian’s problems. It was a plus for sure, that the boy wanted to be helped.
But with you...Any attempt of his trying to breach the subject would result in you brushing his concerns off, getting frustrated, or sighing “I’m fine” and leaving to isolate yourself in your room.
Sometimes, it felt like you really wanted to talk to him. Like you wanted to vent, and tell him what was wrong. But you always seemed to decide against it, maybe in fear of bothering him ?
Most of the time, it felt like you were living with your anxiety in peace. Like you greeted it like a good friend. Bruce had always known you were a rather stressed individual, but you always held yourself up so well ?
Most of the time, it felt like you were perfectly fine. How could he have known ? How could he have known you weren’t ? Ah...but maybe the signs were all there all along...
And Bruce just didn’t know how to help, when even you, didn’t seem to want the help...But maybe that was the trick ? To keep trying no matter what ?
At first, it didn’t seem to him like this would be an issue that could render him absolutely lost like this. And he hated the fact that he thought that.
Because it stemmed from one pervasive thought that made him despise himself : “Her fight with her own mind aren’t as bad as Damian’s, Cass’s, or Jason’s trauma. Aren’t like what Dick went through. It will be easier to fix.” And maybe you felt that, maybe that’s why you wouldn’t let him help ?
Why would it be easier anyway ?
Because you had a calmer childhood. Of course, being Batman’s daughter meant you definitely went through things most children will never experience. But compared to your siblings, you had a somewhat normal childhood.
The biggest trauma of it being the fact your mother, Selina Kyle (author’s note : I’m not particularly talking biological child here by the way, just to make sure y’all can all identify to this. Thought I’d mention it), decided to leave you in your dad’s care and had a very little part in your upbringing up until you turned 12 or so, which is the time she came back. You never seemed to even be mad about this. It always felt like you knew your mom had her own battles to win, that she wasn’t quite ready to have a child, and you forgave her as soon as she came back into your life.
But maybe that was the problem ? The fact Bruce always thought you were strong enough to handle things ? You always seemed to hold your own. You’d always been fiercely independent. Like you never needed help.
When Dick had fits of anger, you’d just stay quiet and withhold it.
When Jason was sometimes overzealous, you’d just stay calm and collected.
When Tim had massive freak outs at times because he felt he wasn’t enough, you’d just reassure him and stay grounded.
When Cass would have nightmare at night and be so scared she couldn’t find her voice again, you’d stay up with her and make sure to soothe her back to sleep, even if it meant not sleeping yourself.
When Damian would realize how much he missed out in life, in his childhood, and how little he knew about the real world...You’d be there, holding his hand while explaining in details why he felt the way he felt.
Even Duke, who arguably was the “sanest” of them all, had times where things were too much for him, and you’d magically appear by his side to help him through it.
You always seemed to be the one everyone relied on.
The one that has it all figured out, that has it together. The one most like Bruce, able to control her emotions. But the one even better than him, because you could also help others understand how they felt.
And that was why Bruce never really noticed your every day struggles.
Come to think of it, the fact you were always so on point and great in your explanations as to why someone felt the way they did, probably meant you felt like them before...
Oh god. God, Bruce hated this. Hated himself, even.
Hated the fact that he thought your fights with your own mind weren’t as bad as what Damian or Dick went through, as bad as Cass or Jason’s traumas.  As bad as Duke witnessing what happened to his parents, because you...Well you still had both of them. And they were on good terms, now.
He hated the fact that it took you almost dying for him to realize you had a real problem too. For him to realize your apparent “I can handle my own” attitude was all a fragile facade that could break any time.
He hated the fact that he had to witness you almost letting yourself die, to realize this...The scene kept replaying in his mind.
A night out as vigilantes. Part of a building collapsing. You pushing a woman out of its way, but then just staring up at the crumbling wall that would crush you, not moving. And the state of daze you were in, when you found yourself in your father’s arms as he saved you in extremis from a certain death that you were clearly letting happen.
You later said it was a mistake. It was a simple mistake.
But Bruce, from that point and on, knew better. There had been a time, not long after his parents’ death, where he wondered what even was the point in living anymore. Where he found himself in a similar situation too, where he could save himself and yet stayed in front of the death threat. Alfred saved him at the time, gave him a good scolding which Bruce didn’t even register.
He recognize that look in your eyes.
Because he had the same one, many years ago, before he had a chance at having a family again. Before you, Dick, Jason, Cass, Tim, Damian...It was a look that meant : “What if I just let it happen, what if I end the pain by ending it all ?”.
And Bruce hated the fact that it took him witnessing this look in your eyes for him to finally realize you needed help. It tore his heart apart.
He hated the fact it took him so long to finally act upon it, to finally do something for you. No matter how lost he was as to where to even begin.
And so here he was, on a calm night in Gotham, sitting on a roof and researching on the internet what can be done to help people riddled with anxiety and such. He knew you enough to know you’d never accept to go see a therapist. But maybe...maybe he could help just as good ?
He knew how he got rid of his own anxiety.
The same way he got rid of many other things...He submitted himself to a strict training allowing him to control all of his emotions, shutting some away when needed.
But he couldn’t even imagine making you go through the things he made himself do. Not his daughter. Not any of his children.
There was a reason, the training he gave all of you wasn’t even 10% of what he used to do. Because he had nothing to live for except becoming strong enough to bring back justice to Gotham. Because he had nothing to look forward to except the fact that he was going to make sure no kid in that god forsaken city would go through what he went through ever again...
He gave himself the ability to turn into a machine. To shun all feelings away. Because he had a mission.
He would never, ever want any of his children to feel like this. Even if he managed to, in appearance, make himself feel nothing...It would always cause him tremendous pain. He knew how this felt, to force yourself to control everything.
No. His method was most definitely not fit for his daughter. He did not want her to become like him. And so, scrolling through forums, websites and blogs, he tried to find the best way he could to help his kiddo. It seems like there was almost like a “list” of things every person suffering from anxiety went through every day...
Wondering if your loved ones are upset with you.
“Are you mad at me ?”
Is the text you send to your oldest brother, Dick, immediately regretting it.
Because now, you were sure he’d find you annoying, pushy or anything of the like. Of course, Dick would never. But your mind was telling you he would.
He hadn’t responded to your text in a day, while he would usually be very reactive, and you didn’t need more to think he hated you, now.
Knowing there is no reason for you to feel that way.
Knowing for Dick to be “mad” at his little siblings, it would take a lot (you weren’t even sure you’ve ever seem him mad at any of you, except maybe the times you put yourselves in danger while he’s your team leader, but then it’s more a problem of being mad at himself than really at you.
Yet you cannot control it. You cannot. You are sure now, that he hates you.
Your father doesn’t understand why you’re so morose that day, and why you snap at everyone. He doesn’t understand, and you don’t tell him. And Bruce just ends up thinking you’re in a bad mood and leave you alone, while you desperately want to talk.
You want to tell him that you think Dick hates you. You want to hear him reassure you, even if technically, there is no need for reassurance. Of course your brother doesn’t hate you, he’s probably just busy, he just started his new job in Bludhaven, and moved in a new apartment and...Yes.
Rationally, of course you knew your brother, who has always been there and never shied away from saying he cared about you and love you, doesn’t hate you.
Yet you cannot help but think you did something wrong. You cannot help but think maybe he does. And you want to tell your dad, and have him reassure you, even if you don’t need to.
But instead, you snap at him. Instead, you push him away. Because you couldn’t handle your dad too thinking your annoying. Of course, he would think you’re annoying, a nuisance, if you told him you think Dick hates you...because obviously he doesn’t.
It was a vicious circle. So instead of possibly-but-probably-not-but-still-maybe be hurt, you pushed the one person you wanted close away, snapping at him and isolating yourself in your room.
TING ! Your phone, it’s ringing ! Oh please god, please be Dick !
It is your brother. He answered !
“Of course not ! Why would you think that ?”
You analyze every single word, and how he didn’t use an emoji, while he always does ! And the way he said “why would you think that ?”...he’s for sure mad at you now, and he thinks you’re the most obnoxious little sister that ever walked this Earth.
But you answer :
“Oh no reason lol. Hey wanna binge watch Gilmore Girls with me this week end ? Only you understand how a true masterpiece this show is.”
He doesn’t reply that day, and you think about it the entire night. He doesn’t come at the patrol of course, as again, he just settled in Bludhaven. And it starts. The spiraling of overwhelming feelings, the impossibility to let go of something.
You cannot think of anything else but sending another text to ask if he’s really not mad at you. You decide against it, because you don’t want him to think you’re annoying. Because you understand he has his own life now. Now that he moved from the Manor.
You understand he must be busy. That he has to settle in. That he doesn’t have to be available whenever you want, and that the fact he had always been up until now proved he was the best big brother anyone could ask for.
But you can’t help it. You think it must be you. That he’s not answering because it’s you.
And all of a sudden, you question every relationship you have. What if none of your siblings love you, and are just polite ? What if they’re lying because you’re really the only sibling out of all of you they don’t like and they’re just too nice to...Oh god. Your dad must hate you too.
Because you keep needing him to reassure you about stuffs. Ah yes, today you shunned him away, but sometimes, you guilt trip him so he says he cares about you. Or so he tells you nice things.
And suddenly, one of your biggest fear, the one where you ask for too much out of the people you love is back. And you cry. You cry all night. Because you have too many mood swings. You isolate yourself too much. But you don’t know, you don’t know how to make them see your fear of not being cared for...
And so you cry. Wondering over and over again “why am I like this ????” as you think all of your loved one are upset with you, and will never want to talk to you again.
Later in the day, Dick answers that he would love to watch GG with you, and there’s an emoji this time. Ah. So maybe he doesn’t hate you...
So many people wouldn’t even think this was a big deal, but for you...for you, it was...
Every small decision feels like it has life or death consequences.
You want to tell them. You want to tell them that’s why  you couldn't choose what you wanted at the drive through fast enough. Why you stumbled on your words, and ended up blurting out : “Whatever Jason took !” because your taste in food was the closest to his.
You want to tell them, that even such a small issue, in your head, took a huge place. That you rehearsed what you were going to say when it would be your turn to speak to the waiter. That you got all tangled up, and didn’t ask what you actually wanted.
You want to tell them that sometimes, even the smallest “yes or no” question haunts you for days. That “what ifs” won’t let you alone.
You want to tell them, but instead you take the meal you didn’t really want, and eat it in silence, listening to everyone talking and enjoying this family moment. You stay quiet, your mind focus on how clumsy, dumb and useless you are.
Just because you couldn’t order something at the drive through.
You stay quiet, but your mind is racing about how much you suck. How you should get out of everyone’s way. Because you can’t even order food properly.
You feel guilty, because this is one rare family moment when you’re all together, and your siblings all have fun teasing each others, laughing and talking, while you just nod sometimes, smile, and die inside.
Just because you couldn’t order something at the drive through.
You think you’re absolutely insane. That you should be checked in in Arkham. You-
Bruce notices you’re quieter than usual. He notices you didn’t take your favorite burger. He wonders why, because he knows you really REALLY like that burger. Sometimes, he goes out of his way to go get you guys’ favorite food, and he knows that this burger is one of yours...
But he doesn’t dwell on it. Maybe you just wanted to change for once (which wasn’t much like you but oh well). And the fact you’re quiet ? Maybe you’re just lost in your own thoughts and day dreaming. After all, you do like to have some quiet and alone time, and this family dinner is happening on this time.
So Bruce doesn’t say anything, even if his guts tell him something is wrong.
Overthinking. Fearing something could go wrong.
You are in constant fear of what's going to happen if and when something happens to your dad ! Or your siblings ! What if you become homeless for some reasons ? What if you have no friends or family to return to ? What if what if what if what if what if what if what if what if what if what if what if...
Intrusive thoughts, they call them. And they don’t want to leave for sure. They’re persistant. They stay up until you overthink them to the point nothing makes sense anymore. To the dissociation.
And it makes your every day life a living nightmare.
Bruce, as he reads this part of an article on the internet, about how people suffering from anxiety are in a constant state of worry, feels his heart tighten at the mere idea you are going through this.
He knows you are. And he hates the fact it took him so long to realize because...
Not being able to control what's happening now or in the future.
Bruce could recollect so many times where, even as a child, you’d ask him questions like : “What happens after you die ?”, “What will happen to me when I get old ?” etc etc.
At the time, of course, he dismissed it as questions every kid asks. Wondering about the world around them. He never saw how much those questions would haunt you, how much sometimes, you couldn’t let go of things you perfectly knew you had no control over...
The signs were all there though.
You weren’t lost in day dreams, you were lost in nightmarish scenarios about what could possibly happen in the near future.
You were, every minute of every day, worrying about something that was currently happening, something that happened recently, or something that might happen in the next few moment, later the same day or in the future.
It was something you had to live with, and it never been just a child curiosity. As you grow up you stopped asking those questions out loud, didn’t mean they weren’t haunting you...
Making a mistake that will result in someone judging you.
You always had to be irreproachable.
You were a perfectionist.
A lot of time, people passed it as : “like father, like daughter.”
And Bruce should’ve known better...Why was he like this ? This part of him certainly didn’t stem from anything good. Yet he ignored the fact you acted exactly like him. The fact you were turning into him, on that front...
My brain is a TV and someone else has the remote.
... ... ... ...
************
Bruce had enough. He knew. He knew how you felt, and why you acted the way you did sometimes. And it was time. It was time to finally take action.
But he couldn’t do it alone. And he wouldn’t. In fact, they’d all be so mad, if he executed this plan on his own...
Because you. You were their precious sister.
They loved you, so much. And it would kill them, if they knew you really meant it, when you asked if they were mad at you. If they hated you. If they...
They always think you’re joking, or that you’re tired or something. That you have “mood swings”.
You don’t.
For you, all those issues are very real. But they don’t understand, because you’re always there to catch them, and they never expected you needed to be caught.
So when their father expose to them what he thinks is going on with them, and when they realize he’s right...
They feel crushed.
How ? How could they not notice their beloved sister was suffering so much ?
And so that day, they all swear that they are going to do everything in their power to help you. No matter what.
They will never give up on you.
No matter what..
************
“Why am I like this ? Why am I like this ? Why am I like this ?” You repeat to yourself, over and over again, as you feel your heart beat like crazy while it has no reason to.
While your chest hurt, and you feel the weight of anxiety on your shoulder, without even knowing why.
You keep telling yourself you suck, you keep being too harsh on yourself, and oh, oh if you only knew that your entire family right now, was plotting to help you feel better.
Unfortunately...
************
Dick’s antics soothe you for a bit, but as soon as he’s gone your heart goes wild again, refusing to stop, and your mind repeats bad thoughts to you.
The next day, Dick planned the PERFECT sister/brother day. Planning things to spend time with you, just like when you were little and it was just you and him.
It’s a perfect day indeed. Everything makes you forget your anxiety. You smile, for the first time in months since this weird extreme anxious state started.
Dick always knew how to make you laugh, and how to tease you just enough so that you wanted to show him what you were made of !
But once you’re home...
And Dick can try, try and try again, but no matter his effort, he can only relieve your pain when he’s around, and unfortunately, he isn’t always around.
************
Jason is patient, with you.
He listens, he empathizes and does not patronizes.
He’s there when you need him. He celebrates every small victory from you (like finally being able to order the burger you want). He encourages you, gives you all the hope he can. And it means a lot, coming from him.
Because Jason suffered a lot. He went through a lot. His death, and his traumatic return...
He tries to keep you hopeful. He is patient. Available. But he does things too well. You’re afraid he spends too much time with you, and forgets his own mental health. You know he loves to meditate, but haven’t seen him do it in ages.
Because he’s also keeping an eye on you. Your father probably told him the crumbling building debacle...And now he makes sure you’re ok.
But to the detriment of his own mental well being ?
You feel like you’re weighting him down. And slowly, he notices you’re avoiding him. And he doesn’t know what to do. He doesn’t want to push you, or force you to do anything...
************
It has always been easy, to talk to Tim.
Your brother is the only one in the family that did not become a Robin for personal reasons. Sure, he was struck with tragedy later in life (or he would never be your brother now...), but at the core of it...He was just a kid who wanted to help.
He was a fan of Batman, who really REALLY wanted to make himself useful. He became Robin, not because of any personal motivation but because he was just that selfless.
And so, it has always been easy to talk to Tim.
Which is why he’s surprised, when he realizes you’ve never told him about your anxiety. About your depressed thoughts. You vent a lot to him, but about small things. About things you can both laugh about.
It has always been easy to talk to Tim, and the fact you cannot address your anxiety problems tells him all the extent of it.
Tells him you’re truly suffering, and that he needs to get better.
To become an even better listener, for you. And as you witness him, just like Jason, sort of forgetting about his own well being, you cannot help but feel even worst...
They mean well. They mean so well. But you cannot stand them putting their own health on the line just for you. After all, you’re just a loser who doesn’t deserve any of those wonderful brothers and sister...
************
Duke tries to help you “temper your thoughts”.
His mom used to do that to him, as a child. He was always rather active, suffering from ADHD and such. In a lot of ways, his trouble resembled the ones you had with anxiety.
And he thought that maybe, helping you tempering your thoughts would be the best.
What does that even mean ? Well. Whenever he felt like you were anxious about something, scared or stressed, he would ask you if you were alright up until you’d finally tell him what was making you anxious.
And then he’d ask you the series of question his mom asked : “What’s the worst that can happen ? What’s the best that can happen ? What’s most realistic, or likely ?”...At first you didn’t really understand the point.
But soon enough, you got it. This was helping you turning your intrusive thoughts against themselves. Helping you see the good sides of things.
Unfortunately, just like with Dick’s technique of making you laugh and such, when Duke wasn’t around to remind you to consider the best, worst and most likely option...you forgot that trick.
************
"Let’s go to a quieter place, or go for a walk.”
Cassandra tells you, whenever she sees you get overwhelmed by something. And it works. It does.
You two just walk in silence, hand in hand.
Your sister’s presence reassuring, and warm. Her care for you sipping out of her very being, from her hand to yours.
“Let’s go to a quieter place, or for a walk.”
You go outside, and you don’t speak. She’s just here for you.
But she can’t always be around, can she ? She can’t always just magically appear next to you in moments of need, and say :
“Let’s go to a quieter place, or for a walk.”
But when she can. She does.
She knows when you get overwhelmed by sounds, by smells, by anything. And she brings you to places that makes you feel at peace.
Cassandra was never one to speak a lot, but she always understood.
************
Damian can’t help but feel sad that he, and the rest of the family, aren’t enough for you to feel better. That they can’t win against your depression and anxiety, no matter how hard they try.
And Damian. Oh Damian tries.
He makes sure you have everything you need. He makes sure to be there when it feels like you’re not feeling well, he follows you like a shadow and...
You both get more and more frustrated.
Damian puts a lot of effort into making you feel better, and you keep snapping at him, or pushing him away.
It’s because YOU’RE the big sister. YOU’RE the one who’s supposed to take care of him. But it seems like lately, Damian is obsessed with your well being, and he doesn’t even let you tuck him in anymore...He’s the one that comes tuck you in.
And deep down, you feel like it’s exactly what you need. You want to let your baby brother take care of you. And his worries are so sweet, and makes you feel all warm inside by how adorable this kid can be. How far he came back from.
Deep down.
But you’re not ready to admit you need help. Especially not from your 11 years old brother. No. He’s the one that needs the cuddles and the reassuring words. He’s the one that had it way tougher than you. And him taking care of you, although it feels nice, doesn’t feel right.
And it hurts, to see your little brother get sad because he can’t help you like he wants to. Because he thinks he’s not enough for you, and that’s why you’re feeling the way you are...
************
Nothing goes how they think it was going to go.
You do not get better right away. It doesn’t even feel like you’re getting better at all. On the contrary.
It feels like you push them away even more, that you become even more irritable, that...that...that you go further and further away from them.
And they don’t understand.
Even you, don’t understand.
Why do you feel so bad ? So Sad ? So anxious all the time ?
You don’t know. You don’t know. You don’t know.
“Why am I like this ? Why am I like this ? Why am I like this ?!”
You repeat this to yourself every day, without being able to find an answer.
And Bruce...Oh, your father came to the conclusion that the last and only option is that you need to go to therapy, you need professional help.
************
“What ? Why ? I’m fine dad !”
You say, anger pointing in your voice, as he tells you that.
“No you’re not, (Y/N). We can all see it. And there’s so much we can do we...I...”
There’s a silence. A heavy one. And it breaks Bruce’s heart, to see tears welling up at the corner of your eyes :
“It’s fine. I get it. I’m too much, aren’t I ? That’s why right ? I ruin you guys’ life ? You know, I noticed a shift not long ago. I know you’re trying to make me feel better, and I know you all get frustrated because you can’t. I swear I try dad. I swear I try to not get those bad thoughts. To not think you don’t love me, for whatever reason. To not think like I’m a burden. I swear I try to not be anxious. I try to not worry, about every little thing. I try so hard ok ?! But it doesn’t work ! And I know it’s wearing all of you down. I know it. But...I’m...It’ll be fine ! IT’LL BE FINE !!”
You scream those last few words, and a silence installs itself between you and your father.
Bruce just looks at you, and you cannot stand the pained look in his eyes. You never wanted your burden to transfer on your family like that...why ? Why did you get worst and made them notice you weren’t ok ? Why ?
Maybe it would’ve been better, if your dad didn’t see you about to get crush by this building, and hadn’t saved you. They’d have a-
“I won’t stop trying.”
Your father’s voice cuts your terrible thought, and you look up at him. He walked slowly to you, carefully, as if afraid to scare you. As if afraid you’re gonna “tt” him, and run to lock yourself in your room.
But for some reason, you don’t move. And you let him come close.
He brushes a few fingers on your cheek, as he used to when you were a child and unable to sleep. Him softly humming to you and brushing your cheeks slowly always made you fall right asleep...
“Until you feel better. And I will tell you over and over again that I love you and that I am here for you, if it’s what you need. I am your dad. I am here for you.”
And he understands your pain oh too well. It’s not because he managed to be able to shut his own mental health problems out, that he never feels them.
You are your father’s daughter. Unfortunately in that case.
Oh. Oh he wishes he could take on your pain. He could take on his shoulders your entire burden. He wishes it was only him, that felt that way. That you would never, ever feel anxiety, or depression again.
He knows it is not that easy. He understands.
“I’m not going anywhere.”
Something breaks inside you. Something that was on the verge of shattering for years, but snapped only now.
“I just...I just wish I could help you. I just wish I knew how. I am trying too, (Y/N). And I won’t give up on you. No matter what you think. I will never give up on you.”
Those words. Those were so simple. Yet what you needed to hear for so long.
Because no matter your siblings’ effort, or Alfred’s, or your dad’s. Your friends at the Young Justice. Anyone you ever cared for...You always were afraid that one day, you’d be too much for them.
That one day, all your mood swings, pushing them away, venting and complaining often...would be too much. And that they’d leave you.
Alone forever.
“I’m not giving up on you.”
Coming from your dad. You knew he said the truth. You knew.
There’s a short silence. You look at your father, and even Queen Anxiety couldn’t make you think he wasn’t being genuine.
“You...That’s...I...”
Getting chocked up, you weren’t able to say anything, but he understood.
And he was there to catch you. You went right into his arms, and he held you tight, trying to convey to you all the unconditional love he has and will always have for you, no matter what.
No matter how much you push him away, how broken you get, how much you hate yourself and think you don’t deserve any kind of love...he’d always, ALWAYS love you. And would never give up.
“I’m here. I’m here. I will always be here.”
His voice was soothing. It has always been soothing. And he was there.
He was there.
“Thank you...”
You manage to whimper out, as he holds you against his heart.
And, finding it hard to reign his own emotions in (his children have always been the only ones who could cross all his walls and find the vulnerable Bruce who feels everything), Bruce repeated as much as you needed to hear that he was here.
He would always be here for you.
Always..
And the path to your recovery was now open.

She’s Not Dead
All Miraculous Ladybug Works
Backstory
"How old did you say they were again?" Superman questioned.
Green Lantern carded through his memories for a moment. "The girl is, I'm pretty sure, 16, and the boy is 17."
"They're that young?" Flash asked, letting out a slow breath. "Dang, they're probably gonna need some therapy in the future."
Bruce Wayne nodded in agreement, before reminding, "We need to deal with Gabriel Agreste first."
"Yes, he is the top priority," Diana agreed, stepping in front of the League members situated around the room. "He not only used magic designated for good to terrorise a whole city, but he attempted to rope in his own son with the scheme. That will have some everlasting consequences, no doubt."
Wonder Woman shook her head, along with some of the team, in disbelief. It wasn't every day a person turned their own child evil for their own gain.
There was silence for a few seconds, excluding Martian Manhunter's typing at a keyboard in the background.
"Are those gods okay?"
"Those gods are named Tikki and Plagg," Diana corrected, sending a small glare to Green Arrow that commanded more respect. "But yes, they are doing well. Tikki is merely resting after having to use so much of her Creation magic to fix all of the damage in Paris yesterday."
"That reminds me," Superman piped up with. "Has the worker that ignored the situation been fired?"
"Yes. He's currently facing major punishment for going against League guidelines and being partly responsible for the length of Hawk Moth's reign," Bruce responded.
"Three years, can you believe that? A whole city had to deal with suppressing their emotions for that long," Barry Allen stressed. "No wonder the heroes broke under the pressure."
Aquaman, who had been twirling around his trident, spoke up. "That Lila girl will be arrested too, right? Along with Gabriel Agreste's assistant?"
"Nathalie Sancoeur used the Peacock pin to help Hawk Moth, so she will be facing similar charges to him. That Lila girl, however," Wonder Woman replied, a dark look taking over her features. "She both harassed and sexually abused Adrien Agreste, and bullied the current wielder of the Ladybug earrings... Let us just say that the prosecutors in court won't be the ones to declare her fate."
The Justice League wisely chose not to argue against the warrior's words.
To the side of the room, a screen was set, showing footage from another area in the Watchtower. There, two teens lay on separate beds, that had kwami snuggled together between them on a nightstand.
One of the teenagers, a female, had her hair spread out on her pillow, with the strands appearing a midnight black from the minimal light of the stars outside. Bandages were carefully wrapped around her hands, encasing the palms so as to stop the bleeding that had previously been occurring.
The other person, a male, slept in the foetus position, whilst tightly gripping onto a silver ring around one of his fingers. His blonde hair was dishevelled, set in a lazy style that matched his black sweater and grey joggers.
Batman caught sight of the TV nearby, suddenly noticing the children also occupying the Watchtower. Dark bags lined their closed eyes, and expressions of discomfort were visible on their faces.
They were having nightmares.
Bruce let out an inaudible sigh, moving to turn to the Justice League. However, his observant eyes caught onto something dreadfully still in the corner of the screen right before he could.
"...Uhh, guys? Where did Batman go?"
Flash's questions caused a stir of confusion to crash over the team, as they scanned about for Bruce's suited figure. After a few seconds, they gave up, all glancing to Superman for a possible answer. That was when Martian Manhunter decided to enlighten them with it.
"Batman is with Chat Noir and Ladybug."
~*~*~
"Diana!"
Said female ran into the room at the call.
"Yes? What is it?"
"I, I think she's dead."
"W-What?"
Wonder Woman took a glance at Marinette, who was curled up in a ball between the bed's thin sheets, and the heart monitor at the side. Despite the fact that it showed no heartbeat, her chest was rising steadily at a slow pace.
The tips of her fingers, not covered in bandages, were a slight shade of blue. Her lips were also the same tinge.
"She's not, I assure you."
"Are you sure, Diana? Because her breathing is significantly slow and she's hardly moving," Superman asked, raising a worried brow.
"It's a side-effect of the miraculous," she explained. "When one has a true soul that is formed from one of the kwamis, they take on tendencies of the animal they represent. It just so happens that Marinette here has the traits of a ladybug."
A caring smile spread across her face, aimed at the sleeping girl.
"Wait...so she's just- hibernating?"
"Yes, Hal. That would be correct."
"Well, we better get some warmer blankets to wake her up again. Goodness, it is actually really cold in here," Green Arrow advised, shivering in his costume.
"That is not necessary, I assure you."
Wonder Woman strolled up to Marinette, scooping her up gently, as she then made her way to Adrien's bed. The League could only watch in utter bewilderment whilst she placed the girl by his side and pulled the covers over them.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa. Are you sure you wanna do that?"
The team collectively stared at Clark.
He blushed, rubbing the back of his neck nervously. "I-I mean, they're two teens, alone, and they might ki-"
"Hush!"
At that, Superman furrowed his brow, looking to the Flash.
The scarlet speedster was gazing intently at the couple laying down.
When Marinette was set down, she shuffled, squirming slightly, before curling back up impossibly tight. However, the boy beside her felt the disturbance, and let out a quiet whine from the back of his throat.
Adrien stretched, yawning, before reaching his arms out a short distance. He froze for a moment - his eyes showing he was still in deep slumber. Then, he all of a sudden pulled his partner to his chest, and she almost reflexively snuggled closer.
Marinette's face lost its discomfort, instead being replaced by a small smile, as was Adrien's. His body vibrated, letting out a loud purr that could be heard from all four corners of the room as he smothered and curled up around her form.
"Aaaaawww..." several of the adults awed.
The hush of the place was broken by Bruce.
"I think we should leave them to sleep."
"Oh gosh, I see that smile on your face, Bats. Don't go adopting them too."
"What? I am not sm-"
"Flash isn't wrong. I saw that too."
"Well, Batman," Diana huffed. "You won't be adopting any of them. They are both like siblings to me, and I shall treat them as such."
Bruce's eyes narrowed in challenge.

oh look someone took a video of me this morning
Tumblr media
...actually not really, because I was tipped off a couple weeks ago as to this being a rumor in certain non-public circles, so I was left to mull on the notion in private for awhile. I had in fact assumed that it wasn’t real, and that while Superman & The Authority was in fact happening it had probably only been offered to Morrison as a courtesy and really someone else would be doing it.
Lots of thoughts between what I had on my own and from talking with Ritesh Babu/seeing his own responses, let’s get to it. Obviously the main reason this is happening is because Jim Lee wants it to be happening - he can’t let his baby die on the vine with Ellis, and he needs a BIG name to wash the taste out of everyone’s mouth. The question then is why Morrison would go for it when The Green Lantern and Wonder Woman: Earth One were such pointed goodbyes to Big Two comics, Klaus remains as an outlet for any cape stories they want to tell, and they’re making TV money now. I’d say the answer is that while Wonder Woman is a tale about clearing away the old ways of things to make room for the new, and Green Lantern is about what’s cleared away getting one last bow...Clark Kent can’t gracefully exit stage left the way Hal Jordan can. Even if most of the rest of pop culture will be supplanted by the tide of time we’re not going to stop getting Superman stories anytime soon. But while in Batman and The Just the big question was “What son could ever live up to the eternal, glorious father who will never fade?”, now the question is “Oh shit, wait, Jon Kent is on the CW and probably taking over the Superman book proper, and that Coates/Abrams movie might not even be about Clark one way or another. What’s the *old* guy supposed to do if he’s gonna keep hanging around?” That’s why it has to be a ‘proper’ DC book - it asks whether the old things we won’t shake can ever truly be new again, or at least find a new role for themselves. And that role involves the team from the last moment mainstream superhero comics really felt like the future to Morrison, the team that represented the next step past their own breakout work in JLA and that their onetime protege’s career would later springboard off of, that was the template for 21st century superhero aesthetics in general. I want the first words of the first interview for this to be “I swear to god this time I’m really done afterwards”, but however crassly commercial the origins, I can see how Morrison would be convinced to do this as a trilogy-capper conclusion to their post-Multiversity DC work (especially with how Pax Americana and Wonder Woman were both in conversation with that whole Mills/Ellis/Ennis/Millar mode of superhero comics). What role can the old archetypes serve in a brave new world?
Tumblr media
Additional thoughts:
* According to the Penguin listing this while filling out a 139 page trade will only be two issues, so it seems they’ll both be massively oversized (wonder if there’ll be backups?) and released as a whole pretty much immediately. In line with the Klaus format, and pretty close to the original plan for Superman Beyond.
* Guess Morrison was consulting on the Superman stuff in Future State as more than a gesture of goodwill. This does seem to potentially be set in that period given Clark’s graying at the temples, and since Superman & The Authority was a 5G rumor from way back (notably the same month as the Ellis allegations coming out) there’s an additional question of how long ago this was written. Not long enough ago or standalone enough that they put it in Future State itself, but even so.
* Really glad Janin’s here - not only is he a perfect choice and tied into Superman right now, he’s the guy who drew Midnighter in Grayson, out of which we got Orlando and ACO’s Midnighter, so he’s at the root of the Wildstorm resurgence. Also curious to see how far Morrison can push him.
* Ritesh pointed this out: Clark’s fully Tom Strong. The hair, the short sleeves, the gloves, the science hero vibe. And a thread of PKJ’s run is Superman’s power is beginning to fade, so he’ll probably be in that territory physically too and therefore needing to rely on help from other heavy-hitters.
* The roster mostly makes sense: Midnighter and Apollo are the givens, a new speedster (Lightray?), they like Steel so Natasha Irons being here isn’t surprising, and of course they’d include OMAC. But Manchester? And a Manchester who looks like Peter Capaldi? A Manchester who as you note I’ll be forced to like now? Wild. And...Enchantress? Okay?
* As far as cameos go I’m curious if we’ll see Jon, since he’s the guy who needs to have replaced Superman for the story to make thematic sense as I’m assuming it is, or the Superman Squad for similar reasons + then this can be an avenue for Morrison to tell that big Squad story they had in mind.
* It’s curious that the cover isn’t on a surface level aggressively provocative, because there’s so much about this that is. Not even the obvious fact of a Superman & The Authority book with Manchester Black on it (itself a hilarious fuck you to What’s So Funny), but that it’s the Superman shield from Kingdom Come - the iconography of that version of that guy hanging out with the 90s ass-kicker team in excelsis isn’t inconsequential. And while Action Comics and its socialist strongman was playing as nice as it could with its New 52 surroundings, this as a Grant Morrison future for Superman that isn’t All-Star is itself a pretty plain statement of intent that hey, THIS is what they think about what Superman's potential now, not what they did 15 years ago. Will that be a condemnation alongside Blackstars and the Hyperman story in TGL, or a testament to Superman’s ability to change with the times and continue serving as the man of tomorrow? If this is being collected in November, I imagine we’ll see this summer.
