a list of queer online archives and research spaces

A list of some spaces I’ve been reading up on queer history, culture, and politics -- spaces like researchgate are also gold mines if you’re doing more specific research, but the below are easy to navigate if you want to go down rabbit holes, look for sources, gain hitherto unknown perspectives, etc.

A lot of these are very guerilla, a few are more established/have funding -- all of them have stories that have historically been deemed immaterial by colonialist -- and therefore queerphobic -- mainstream societies. I was trying to keep a focus on history, but there’s some question about how we define that -- personal histories? recent histories? histories of media? blog posts that are older than x?

Pleasepleaseplease feel free to add with country-specific archives and research spaces, especially if you’re from outside of America or England

MakingQueerHistory: An amazing site with tons of history, that’s also always looking for writers who want to make additions (I believe currently anyone who’s not writing on America or England is preferred). At the bottom of each article are a list of sources. If you have some extra cash I recommend throwing a couple of dollars a month their way, the work they do is astounding [link] (global)

Queer As Fact: A podcast that explores a range of historical people, places, media, etc. Very enjoyable rabbit holes, and it’s fun to hear as things are being explored and learned [link] (global)

The Intersex Roadshow: I confess I’ve had a hard time finding a dedicated space centering on intersex people and intersex history. However this one has been running since 2009, and before you think that isn’t so long, consider 13+ years of words! The link goes to the first post on the site, introducing Cary who’s been running it. It’s both personal and broad in its scope [link] (misc)

West Yorkshire Queer Stories: A series of oral histories from West Yorkshire, interviewing people about Pride, community, personal histories, intersectional rights, etc. Over 200 stories! [link] (local, North England/West Yorkshire)

Queer Music Heritage: I haven’t delved as far into this one as I want (yet), but does exactly what is says on the tin! I can’t even begin to describe how rich this site is, you’ll have to simply experience it [link] (global - may be Western-centric)

National AIDS Memorial: I’ve only used this to see the interactive AIDS quilt (and if you haven’t I recommend you do), and I believe this is America-specific, however its historical and current work is amazing [link] (America)

Digital Transgender Archive: Possibly one of the best resources out there -- tons of materials, user friendly, global. If you want to take an aimless stroll, or have specific searches in mind, it’s worth a look. A tangible feeling of History [link] (global)

Museum of Transology: A beautiful building of story, with the very simple message that the materials that make up trans peoples lives are worthy of being saved, documented, and remembered. You can check out the various collections + the page dedicated to QTIBIPOC stories [link] (UK)

To Survive On This Shore: A treasure trove of stories and images of older trans people -- sometimes we’re fooled into thinking that we really don’t have a lot of elders or stories, but we really really do [link] (America)

t4t: A series of articles, essays, and stories about being trans and non-binary, by a variety of writers. the writing includes sex, bodies, divinity, and more and it periodically gets updated [link] (America)

76crimes: This is not an archive as such, but it covers news in countries that criminalised/currently criminalise homosexuality, and so has a lot of information from around the world, both historical and current. Global ally-ship is very very important and so is acknowledging how much homo- and transphobia have been created by colonialism [link] (global)

QueeringTheMap: People placing their personal stories all over the world onto different parts of a map, with little bits of texts -- anything from first kisses, sex, gender affirming surgeries, support, fun, life-changing events, etc. [link] (global)

The Smithsonian: The LGBTQ+ section of the Smithsonian covers articles on history and culture [link] (I believe global)

Gay History and Literature: So this historian called Rictor Norton just has this website where he uploaded a flipping ton of his writings. It’s mainly threw a gay male lens, but he allows himself to bloom out into lesbian, bi, and trans history here and there. So worth a looong exploration. I first stumbled on it, because he has a whole section dedicated to a history of guys writing each other love/sexual letters. The Anarchist Library: Not queer specific, but you can search for keywords and there’s a wealth of essays, dating back further than you’d think (be aware if you’re searching for words like “gay” or “queer” older texts will be archived with them under their older meanings [link] (I believe global)

Queer Movies: Specifically curated lists of queer movies that covers everything from specific genres to history to documentary. Regularly updated, always interested in suggestions [link] (global)

Trans Male Movies: A site documenting representations of trans men, transmasculine people, and non-binary people who were assigned female at birth (as this can often be a messy overlap in film) in media [link] (global)

- When you feel sleepy you sit on his lap, and when you shake your head before sleeping he has a whole heart attack right then and there, and when I say heart attack I'm not exaggerating, he may have a stoic face and not react as much to things but when it comes to you it's different.

- He has you sitting on his head his horns acting as a support so you won't fall of his head while Sebek is throwing a temper tantrum as Silver tries to calm im down while Lilia is cooing and gushing about you guys saying how it you guys are together while taking pictures and Malleus is just standing there like that standing man emoji while you on top of his head is just watching all of this shit go down as you try not to laugh.

- Once Rook finds out you turned into a goose he's swooping in to get you and once you guys are alone he starts spewing all his fancy french words to you, that you dont even understand.

- He brings you to Pomfiore and gets students there to treat you like royalty but honestly your not complaining at all like free food? Count me in! Wouldn't wanna miss free food.

- I feel like he would get blush and put it on you, then would go on to give you instructions on what to do so he could take pictures and post on magicam, he literally acts as Cater for a day before having to find a position to turn out back.

- Once he finds the potion he's a bit sad you can't stay a goose forever but he's happy your out of the form cause now he can kiss you all he likes.

- Jade look down at you as you look back up at him, you get scared of his stare thinking he was planning on eating you and putting on the menu of Octavinelle but he picks you up and tries to feed you a mushroom.

- Ok but seriously though I feel like he would try to put you in babys clothing I don't know just a hunch. Or he would just put u in a pond and watch you swim around it's a bit stressful for you since your literally being watched while swimming.

- But in the end he finds the potion to turn you back into your human self

- Floyd is chaotic wish the bed of luck to you cause bro will give you the most tight crushing hug he's ever given you while you make goose noises struggling to breath and he lets go laughing really hard as you run your little goose legs away from him.(You don't make it far before you her steps getting closer and being picked up to eye level with Floyd)

- When he gets bored he closes your break with his hand and you try to escape but then his other hand holds you down and you just sit there so done with life.

- He definitely is to lazy to find a potion for you so he makes Azul and Jade do the work, and once your back to our human self he give you a bone crushing hug again and laughs manically but it's ok you love him either way.

yeah no of course i cant stop trying still ...

currently trying to get out of the mindset -draw what could be popular- by designing some rough ideas for the weapons shops in the new totk rewrite (fuse isnt a thing here)

to explain; during the first part (before villain rauru reveal and change to shiekah arm) the way to repair or craft weapons is with a new type of NPCs; they are smiths that can repair your weapons, craft them, and have some avaible to buy (mostly for arrows but also small selection of weapons), it costs material and some money, or if you dont have the material/all material, it costs more money but is still doable, price depending on how valuable or hard to get the material is you dont want to spend on it

then after the switch to the sheikah arm and zelda taking on the role of your permanent companion, she can both repair and craft as well (might be limited but expandable with quests, as in that zelda learns more skills- so theres new quests after the switch and you cant just do everything before that) with the difference that you need to have the required materials but it costs no money

this would mean that while no giant change before and after the halfway point of the game, it is definitely different feeling, plus its a convenience that is good to have in the second half but shouldnt be sorely missed in the first, the difference between NPC smith and zelda gives you the option to spend material or money- so you arent forced to grind anything if you need either for something else, plus new quest rewards for the second half and new points of interest in general, similar to a stable but not too close so theres still an element of exploration; they arent super frequent but around the map of the surface enough that you can reasonably reach one in each region (perhaps after aquiring the yiga as allies/or before that in disguise they can do the same for you but are only found in the underground)

it would also allow for more diverse gameplay, if your favorite weapon is about to break (it might not fully disappear but if you use it up it would go into a condition like the master sword when its lost its power, not usable or doing tiny amount of damage, but not gone forever if you accidentally use it too much-) you can decide to throw it away or keep it until you find the next smith, depending on if you already found one and see you are close or havent yet, or spend the material if you have it to instantly repair it

(i havent decided yet if rauru might be willing to repair your weapons, but not to craft them since he lacks the skill (would never admit to it) and he only wants to give you just enough support to enable you to do what he wants you to do- i think that might work better bc its still a difference to zelda, since she can craft too, but not too much so that you would feel like the games forcing you to use the smiths in the first half ... possibly its unlocked with one of the enigma stones, when rauru can claim he is able to do that now bc it lets him recover some of his strength)

what im wondering now, which is a bit important i think, is .. should the smiths be wandering around a set path or have a lil stationary shop? if they wander around it would make it a bit more depending on situation of you wanna use them, but bears the risk of making it annoying if you dont know here they are or happen to be too far away and a lil weird bc should have something to work on there, like an anvil, which would be a lil strange to carry around; a lil shop could potentially turn into a location you keep teleporting back and forth though im leaning towards the shop; you could make helping them build it a quest too, or saving them from monsters? overall i think this idea is a rather nice balance

Taking their clothing because you miss them (Creepypasta)

two things: i promise im still working on the eyeless jack x reader fic to celebrate 1k TToTT my steam for writing the fic is just dwindling a little since its very different from my usual posts </3 but i still intend on getting it done! in fact id say its about halfway done, if you dont include proofreading and fixing stuff!! so theres definitely.. something.. i just dont have a time window for it </3 originally i was going to write this with ben/jeff/toby and make it platonic but, i realize this prompt is usually used for romance stuff so theyre gonna sit this post out, ill probably think of another group post soon to make up for it but shrugs getting into the writing i realize i wrote this prompt for some characters a while ago so im going to link those parts in their place

SLENDERMAN:

you take his tie! normally i would say his jacket, but i feel like thats such an obvious choice.. imagine you dont know how to tie it so he walks in on your fumbling with it. trying in vain to get it down... he probably thinks its a little amusing... i mean who wouldnt? kind of just watches you fiddle with it for a minute before making his presence known, likely making you jump. he would much rather you ask than take his clothing, he doesnt have much of it (though is there much need for it, anyway?) (non sexual obviously). probably teaches you how to properly do the tie. his hands absolutely consume yours

SPLENDORMAN:

just ask him and hes going to give you just about any piece of clothing he has on him! i like to think that he lets you have his hat a lot of the times. especially after he walked in on you trying it on.. sure it might be a little too big for you, what with splendor being very tall and thus having a larger head than yours... probably goes on and on about how adorable you look. i mean hes always telling you how cute or pretty you are but it hits different for him when youre wearing something of his. you dont have to ask for his clothing, hes very open to sharing! definitely gets an alternate outfit so he can match with you every now and then

MASKY:

naturally, you steal his jacket! i mean it looks so comfortable, does it not? this isnt an easy feat, by the way. since hes wearing it most of the time, so youre probably going to have to snag it when hes showering or something. quietly stares at you... he DOES think its cute but i do think he would try to get his clothing bad. another jacket similar in style to his mysteriously makes its way into your closet and its also in your size. dont ask where it came from.. he totally didnt steal it..! likely wouldnt want you to take whats his without asking or at least letting him know.. hence him getting your own jacket. wont physically rip it off of you, though, hes not that cold

PUPPETEER:

i think he loves seeing you in his clothing. he thinks you look cute.. but also... pathetic? usually lets you wear his coat or hat if you ask nicely. he already knows youre going to snatch something before you even do it but stays quiet because he thinks its pathetic/adorable, you think youre being so sly but youve already been caught. will tease you for it. a lot. its kind of his own way of getting you to do it again. genuinely thinks its one of the best things in the world. dont admit you do it because you sometimes miss him or like how he smells, its going to do ungodly things to his ego
