(totk rewritten/botw 2 concepts, sky area)

a lone survivor of the ancient shiekah (actually alive not mummified- a descendant of those that remained in the sky but cut off from the rest of the world after the ancient king banning their tech- now only he is left of all of them), now caring for the birds of the sky

he lives in an old shiekah lab and uses a nonfunctioning gauntlet (?) and other old tech stuff in a repurposed way, espeically after ganondorf starts to wake up (since in my rewrite hes the srouce of the power- meaning islands are falling and theres a large energy black out) and everything started to lose energy

once you find him you can tame certain birds and register them with him, after doing so if you are in free fall in the sky area (to complete the trio of horses on the ground, dondons in the underground, birds in the sky- but not to ride birds as to not take away all challenge and take away too much of skywards sword) you can call the bird thats flying with you to give you a small boost in height (since building is removed and alot of the traversal in the sky is parasail or grappling hook and the removal of the totk towers, to make falling more punihisng but not too punishing, the height boost while in the sky to correct when you are about to miss an island or increase the distance you can go)

the big hat not just to enable the birds resting on it and it being a signature of the ancient shiekah PLUS protection from the sun as the new addition of the hazard of being sunburned (potentially, its similar to the already existing heat system but for the sky it makes sense no? .. also big hat)

i expected the rewrite to get the most votes, i didnt expect pixelstuff and OCs to get that many votes O.o

(i wasnt this much in the fandom when botw was new and discovered most zelda people afterwards so i cant tell much how it was then BUT i did see the old man from the plateau and went OMG OMG WHAT IF ITS HIM ... and then it was the king in a dark skinned disguise- what was up with that anyway?)

i so dearly miss the time after botw was a little out and every detail was looked through and theorized together and everything for years on end by just how much it let you speculate about it and how much i seemed to hint at a bigger picture that all fits together-

but the time after the first 'botw2' trailer truly was the height of it (that i lived through) and i think it was glorious, the trailer seemed to be going in the direction botw was leading up to and the little scene with gan seemed so DIFFERENT, it was so ominous that even the most mainstream theory guys dared to put videos out suggesting that gan wasnt an irredeemable evil manbeast and perhaps was wronged or exploited in a way (i will never forget the battery theory ......), perhaps, maybe, it would be a case of a greater evil showing up and them having to band together!!! betrayal!! deception!! gan working together with zelda and link is sth alot of people have been longing for too

i think its in part why i felt so WEIRD for how i started to feel more and more worried the more info we got on totk bc it then seemed to go more off track but i was still on board to see how it played out, surely nintendo wouldnt waste all that potential they built up with botw- and then the game came out and the longer i played the more i felt like i was missing something, wheres the turn, wheres the hook, wheres the interesting bit hinting to more (wheres the connection to anything botw besides the reused world??? that wasnt even changed meaningfully????), once i reached the end it all fell apart for me but whereever i looked everyone was praising it as the best game ever- but the fact how ANYTHING that could have been interesting about gan was thrown out, not just fro mthe game itself but also from the players is kinda of driving me nuts-

the game ... welll you know how it turned out, but it felt at tiems like it was actively trying to shoot down anything that could make gan more than the most flat evil guy to ever evil, like the ancient hero bit was soooooo interesting, that tapestry detail was so peculiar- and then its ... apprently now whatver the fuck its supposed to be (it doesnt even look sonau like with the dog features and tail no one but maybe rito got a tail??? where did that come from??? not even lyelns got a lion tail????) with its design all such a weird mix of everything and saying nothing at the same time, its the weirdest thing but not in a good way imo (plus any and all connection between shiekah stuff and gan ..... that all didnt mean shit either i guess wahooo)

and even now you get people going "ganondorf should always be the most evilest one note evil guy to ever evil like hes always been and thats a GOOD thing" and be SERIOUS about it, if you dare to suggest soemthing more interesting suddendly everyones done a complete hell turn, what? we never wanted gan to be intersting lol? hes the evil guy what did you expect? after i saw all that there was to totk i was just ... i felt like i played a different game somehow bc where did everyones want for complex gan go?? (among more) its like anything that was theorized before has been erased (like enything from botw in totk) and suddendly its like a non problem ?? everythign was taken at face value, and now YOU are weird for wanting something more? or being disappointed? how dare you??

like ww gan is largely regarded as the most complex when its pretty much A SINGLE LINE OF DIALOG right at the end, like how low is the bar?? and now its fine and even wanted that it never reaches that 'height'??? huh???

its why i dont say anything on twitter about it anymore bc i just get swarms of people in the replies accusing me of stuff and ranting about how i am wrong or something like you are not allowed to even DARE to SUGGEST that the writing is not great or its gameplay isnt perfect either, anythign mildly critical and if it gets outside your bubble of people that also think so or those that can take a critical look at something even if they like it you are done for

I was just reminiscing on how hard this fandom was shilling for a complex Ganondorf for the wilds era, and this wasn't even confined to niche parts of the fandom. Every time there was a hint that Ganondorf might be involved in some way, the fandom went wild with speculation. It's like people these days, when defending TotK's poor handling of Ganondorf's writing, forget that a complex Ganondorf, or at least a Ganondorf that had a bit more character depth than a puddle on sidewalk, was something *everyone* wanted. Most people were not content with an "evil for the sake of being evil" Ganondorf.

When the first trailer and images of BotW dropped, a lot of people saw the cloth around Link's forearms and noticed the patterning there. Many thought it was similar to Gerudo patterning. Lo and behold people began speculating that Link may have a close relationship with the Gerudo, and perhaps with Ganondorf him. Cue all the theories and fanart and fanfic of Link and Ganondorf growing up together, being close friends, knowing each other, before Ganondorf's turn to darkness. Okay so as BotW's release approaches we learn about Calamity Ganon and then we see this mysterious old man. He seems pretty large in stature and is dark skinned. Cue the second wave of rumor mills that this may be Ganondorf. Perhaps a weary old washed up soul, or perhaps a manipulation tactic while his real form, the calamity, keeps Zelda trapped inside the castle. The tapestry with the red haired hero. This one causes a big wave of rumors that perhaps the past hero was a Gerudo, maybe an iteration of Ganondorf.

The first trailer for TotK drops, we see the murals, Ganondorf's corpse, what looks like a horrifying vision of how he ended up here. Rehydrated Ganondorf starts trending. People are wild with speculations of who he was. Many link him to the hero on the tapestry. Most speculation about Ganondorf now is what sort of horrendous thing happened to him that he would end up here, and less about how evil he must have been to end up here. The official "rehydrated Ganondorf" art drops. Everyone sees his design, how he seems more heroic in this art piece. Again, people are still speculating on how complex this Ganondorf might be, between what we have seen thus far. Many note he is not smirking in this art as he usually is, perhaps a hint that his character this time might be different. And we have reached TotK Ganondorf, with the most generic evil villain writing we have seen of him yet. Ganondorf is a big appeal of the LoZ games. He deserves more than just being hot.

so, instead of working on what i actually wanted to work on ... i did some rough mock up and UI stuff for the pixel game i dream of making

(some sprites are done and copied over, like the basic player character- most are super rough -throw some color in vageuly the shape you need -)

my dream idea (probably impossible espeiclaly for a noob gamedev like me lol) is like a mix of minecraft and stardew with a bit of botw and ww, but set in my OCs world- with a heavy focus on customization and environment/exploration more than making money or something (you might collect celestial silver bits- which are toxic to demons and thus better collected by you in an effort to heal their world and you get rewards for turning it in?)

the Hud? UI? you see here is well .. health and energy in the upper left corner plus some controls which are also in the upper right corner, the idea is to mimic windwakers style of button mapping- meaning that you can put any item on any button you want (only inventory is locked bc it contains all the options)- that extends to the jump, interact and sit actions too, theyd be in your inventory like an item you get from the start, so if you never wanna sit down, put sth else there, dont want to interact with anything and just run around? sure do, never jump? no problem

in the lower right corner is the info thingy, with the big wheel being time of day, the second the health of the environment (the main mechanic in restricting you- if you cut down trees or introduce plants from other, later unlockable, areas it will go down, if you reach critical level too many times Eadrya (blue rough sprite there) will show up whereever you are and kill you (bc the whole idea is that you are a demon hunter who wanted to leave the organization but was hunted down by them for it- so you are rescued by Shargon and put into one of the bubbles around travel gates meant to protect humans from the otherwise toxic-to-humans atmosphere in the demon world, but since you are a hunter, and they cant be sure you can be trusted, you are tasked with helping their world recover from the damage your former allies caused- so if you do more damage than heal it and you do it on purpose they will see it as proof you have not actually left the hunters, which means if Eadrya is the one watching the area you will be eaten/smashed/etc- if its someone else thrown back into the human realm)

below that is the temperature- and on the side is the current and coming weather

(edit: as sidenote, i always got a color filter layer ready for grayscale to check if everythings still readable without color- its an effort to make it more accessible for people with color vision impairment, but i dont think i can test for every single one? theres alot of levels of color blindness right? >o<)

i would argue rauru is on the same level as rhoam at best, just more 'nice' or polite sounding without actively being 'mean' to her-

rhoam had the pressure of the looming calamity over him that no one knew WHEN it could happen and believed that zeldas powers were their only saving grace, which doesnt excuse how he treated her but at least he knew or realized later on that he was wrong but it happened to be just when the calamity put the pedal to the metal, and while he didnt want zelda to do shiekah tech stuff he still supported getting it out and researching it (perhaps moreso bc of the prophecy thing than zeldas interest but we cant really know that)

rauru, as you said, is pretty much ignoring whatever she says and always in a very "parent talking to toddler" kind of way, while i also think zelda being more open about what she actually saw before being thrown into the past by *gestures vaguely* came way too late (given how trusting she was with everything else the entire time holding back that info feels very 'bc plot' just like rauru not telling link shit when they first meet- something that rhoam DID DO) and while rhoam didnt have a way to fight the calamity, really just ideas or hopes for something to work, rauru had multiple magic pebbles locked away the entire time, meaning while he had the power to do whatever he wanted he instead walked face first into bc doom he was so full of himself that he believed letting someone who you KNOW plans to overthrow you into your house is fine bc he is rauru after all (which feels incredibly irresponsible as a king of a nation, jsut putting anyone and everyone in danger like that- rhoam really didnt have much of a choice even if his approach was ill chosen)

(and yes i know thats like raurus "character flaw" but the topic is about being a good parental figure to zelda)

even after it costs him HIS WIFE hes still going "lol dont worry about it" and is quick to put zelda in sonias place, but the most egregious line imo is "you are here for a reason" which, even if it was meant to be reassuring (somehow???? that makes everything WORSE, going in with no plan??? bc its for a reason lol???? i hate that line both here and in general .. ), i found to be so incredibly dismissive im pretty sure i silently gasped as it happened, its like he saw zelda as nothing but a confirmation that it cant end up in total disaster since shes here!! the kingdom and its people will survive long enough to end up with her so its fine!! putting an end to all discussion of everything that would need discussion (i cannot be the only one who mostly found rauru to sound like he was only shutting down whatever zelda even alluded to, like a polite stop talking or worrying im the god here and i know whats up, more or less- doesnt sound like a great dad to me idk)

(yes you could argue that hes doing that bc he knows how he will end up or whatever but that is not only boring is just feels like a defeatist 'you cant change what will happen just take everything as is and stop struggeling against it' which isnt a great thing to 'teach' zelda)

and in the context of good parental (royal) figure rauru is so irresponsible as a whole, putting all the people hes subjugated into needless danger while rhoam tried pretty hard, even if wrongly approached, to protect them, no?

its just as you said, zelda should be treated as an equal but clearly he doesnt think she is (thus another reason why it felt like zeldas character was entirely walked back to before botws events- shes just a doe eyed little child next to the imposing king that knows everything better and she should just be silent and do her job- even after rauru did the whole hand grabby thing she only goes to the other unnamed sages to beg them to help link in the future and then does a big totally nonreversable-reversable sacrifice .. again)

(speaking of link, once rauru learned of link it felt like he was like OH we got a big saviour in the present then, even less to worry about!!)

(like, with rhoam i saw the few scenes he got and was like he mean :( but with rauru i had off vibes from the very start- i expected (or even hoped??) that rauru was scheming something and would make a big turn into the REAL villain thing (or antagonist at least) that never happened but would have been so good ??? right???? no??? just me????)

so why is rauru thought to be better than rhoam??? is it bc rauru is more polite about it? bc he gets mroe screentime? is it bc hes more sexy than rhoam?? is it bc rauru comes back in the end (after, i will not let go of that, HE ALREADY DID A BIG DRAMATIC TRAGIC TURNING TO GHOST DUST SCENE AFTER TELLING LINK NOTHING OF VALUE) to oh so graciously turn zelda back into a perfectly fine human again SOMEHOW? and rhoam didnt do some great magical gesture after the fact?? (like ... i feel like the tragic thing about a ghost is that THEY CANNOT DO ANYTHING but maybe talk?? and are GONE once they do the turning to ghost dust thing?? which doesnt matter to rauru i guess?????? i hate that scene, i want to rip it to shreds with my bare teeth how it made an already boring written game and whaevter little meaning or feeling it could have invoked completely meaning and weightless)

I dunno if this is my hardcore peddling of Ganondorf propaganda affecting my reading on things, but seeing so many people over on the tweeter say that Rauru is the best dad figure in LoZ games is just like...hmm.

He does try to help her in terms of gathering information in how to get back to her time, but otherwise sort of only pays lip service to any concerns Zelda has when it comes to Ganondorf. Zelda is no longer a young princess that is under the thumb of her father's expectations; she is a ruler in her own time, well aware of what plagues her country. However, even though Rauru acknowledges who she is, he still, like Rhoam, thinks he knows better than she does. Even when Zelda advises him to not confront Ganondorf, knowing full well what she saw in the present, Rauru is arrogant enough to think that because Zelda is here in the past that things will turn out different this time and decides to disregard her advice. He never gives her a concrete explanation for his actions, basically just telling her "not to worry about it" as if she is a child complaining about a boogieman under her bed and not what is possibly the origin of a calamity she spent 100 years holding back. In a way, Rauru becomes this sort of protective father figure where he wants to take the burden of all the hard things off her shoulders and let her focus on finding a way back home. However, considering Zelda herself is a ruler who already put her life on the line for her kingdom, she does not need to be coddled in this way. After all, she is also speaking in the interests of protecting what she knows to be home. It often feels like Rauru is infantilizing her instead of taking her concerns seriously, in the same way Rhoam did. It feels like this infantilization extends to Ganondorf as well, whom he allows to come to court and swear his fealty after attacking Hyrule, as if such a brazen attack was simply a child throwing a tantrum and not a tribe making a bold statement as to what they thought of his "repeated invitations". And then of course he keeps him on a short lease right after instead of treating him as a true threat to his kingdom. It does make me wonder if that was the reason why Zelda confronted Ganondorf with Sonia alone, with Rauru nowhere to be found. Was this yet another instance of King Zonai being dismissive of Zelda's concerns, and Sonia being the one who decided to listen?

Can one be considered a good father figure if he never bothers to treat you like an equal that has something of value to say and to consider? At what point does the kindness become condescending?

Do not forget about Palestinians on this Eid, do not forget about Gaza, do not forget about the lives taken and homes destroyed, do not forget about the joy and life so cruelly snatched from them.

and also they are now related to not only one god (allegedly- im a believer of hylia didnt reincarnate and its all a ruse to justify hyrule being the god given kingdom needing to exist into all eternity no matter the cost) but TWO.. or aliens .. i guess .... though it still feels like they just did away with zelda being always descended from the first zelda (which brings interesting conflicts with it for any zelda and the pressure such a legend has) bc now rauru is the cool new guy and actually she got her powers from him actuallly SOMEHOW even though we never see a kid of sonia-rauru even though that would be necessary unless now it counts as a spiritual successor bringing down the whole basis of the basic zelda lore with all that--- anywAY) and then just make a kingdom up out of thin air that aims to bring everyone under their control

and then have the evil irredeemable villain be a scary big brute from a desert (whos people also ... didnt change a bit from all back then to now?? am i remembering that right? they look exactly the same- .. though that goes for all of the little tiny bits we see of th eother *ancient* races if you count one person of each hidden under a sonau helmet adorned in sonau style clothing ... still such a big missed opportunity you could do so much with all those-) that hates tech and wages war against the (double?) god people in charge of refounding the god given kingdom that is also in charge of that tech (no matter how exploitative its operation might be- it still treated as a perfectly good thing that only brings good) bc he doesnt like it/wants to show that tech isnt the way to rule a kingdom?

soemthign thats really bothering me about the whole "actually, ganondorf didnt like the guy appearing out of nowhere marrying a hylian and just saying yep das our kingdom now and we can mine it barren under your nose and also i got laserbeam pebbles that i totally wont ever use on anyone come join me or die just bc of all of that but mainly bc the guy brought some weird tech with him that he dont like" - thing is that ......... we see almost not a single tech thing in the past (and for that matter see nothing of the oh so perfect and peaceful paradise hyrule was before big evil desert man didnt want to join our paradise- like what is the point about making the whole point of the game be -we need to restore hyrule to this paradise it once was- when you dont even see it or get to care about anything of it)

it might sound like a weird hangup but no really, the most we see is like two servant constructs, thats it, when they 'prepare for war' im pretty sure all you see is some lightly dressed ( ... is it just me or does their whole get up look alot like native american/other indingenous people too ... i still dont know how to feel about that- kinda adjacent to some of the sonau armor, the battery one i think??, also having that look...) hylians with spears, where the heck is all that tech?? is it implied to be all down in the mines hollowing out the underground (for no real reason either bc .... theres only two sonau left and no one else seems to want use nor need the tech otherwise there should have been more traces or soemthing left of it -unless it all just magically appeared out of nowhere in mostly prime condition while all shiekah tech jsut vaporized for bs non reasons just for it to be in tha game but oh dont you see its always been there lmao- so whats the point really????)

or is it intentionally kept out of view bc idk seeing an army of robots on raurus side he can send out on a whim might not make him look as oh so good and perfect as they want him to look when he already got laserbeam pebbles (most of which hes been hoarding until ONE falls into hands not under his control) ?? like it just ... feels weird?? so many battle constructs that can even be a threat to link are jsut fully functioning strolling around in the present still, why wouldnt you want to use any of them to battle gan and if they DID why wouldnt you show that (no the 3 second unicorn cutscene doesnt count bc its just .. gan and his monsters isnt it) ?? (also ... why isnt there a big like battle ground , like fine you dont have to animate an army of monsters and robots clashing but... wouldnt it be cool to have you discover a giant flat plain in the underground (that magically got put under ground like gan just decided to stroll down there to get sealed lol) and its the only mostly empty field in the game littered with thousands of monster bones and dead constructs intermingled?? just to give it all a bit of weight?? evidence that it happened?? cool ass discovery????)

soemthign thats really bothering me about the whole "actually, ganondorf didnt like the guy appearing out of nowhere marrying a hylian and just saying yep das our kingdom now and we can mine it barren under your nose and also i got laserbeam pebbles that i totally wont ever use on anyone come join me or die just bc of all of that but mainly bc the guy brought some weird tech with him that he dont like" - thing is that ......... we see almost not a single tech thing in the past (and for that matter see nothing of the oh so perfect and peaceful paradise hyrule was before big evil desert man didnt want to join our paradise- like what is the point about making the whole point of the game be -we need to restore hyrule to this paradise it once was- when you dont even see it or get to care about anything of it)

it might sound like a weird hangup but no really, the most we see is like two servant constructs, thats it, when they 'prepare for war' im pretty sure all you see is some lightly dressed ( ... is it just me or does their whole get up look alot like native american/other indingenous people too ... i still dont know how to feel about that- kinda adjacent to some of the sonau armor, the battery one i think??, also having that look...) hylians with spears, where the heck is all that tech?? is it implied to be all down in the mines hollowing out the underground (for no real reason either bc .... theres only two sonau left and no one else seems to want use nor need the tech otherwise there should have been more traces or soemthing left of it -unless it all just magically appeared out of nowhere in mostly prime condition while all shiekah tech jsut vaporized for bs non reasons just for it to be in tha game but oh dont you see its always been there lmao- so whats the point really????)

or is it intentionally kept out of view bc idk seeing an army of robots on raurus side he can send out on a whim might not make him look as oh so good and perfect as they want him to look when he already got laserbeam pebbles (most of which hes been hoarding until ONE falls into hands not under his control) ?? like it just ... feels weird?? so many battle constructs that can even be a threat to link are jsut fully functioning strolling around in the present still, why wouldnt you want to use any of them to battle gan and if they DID why wouldnt you show that (no the 3 second unicorn cutscene doesnt count bc its just .. gan and his monsters isnt it) ?? (also ... why isnt there a big like battle ground , like fine you dont have to animate an army of monsters and robots clashing but... wouldnt it be cool to have you discover a giant flat plain in the underground (that magically got put under ground like gan just decided to stroll down there to get sealed lol) and its the only mostly empty field in the game littered with thousands of monster bones and dead constructs intermingled?? just to give it all a bit of weight?? evidence that it happened?? cool ass discovery????)

still feeling incredibly guilty hours later for telling a store employee about there being a snail in the strawberries instead of buying them specifically naively thinking that they will open the package to let the snail out and take the rest bc now both the strawberries will go to waste and the snail is probably gonna die ....

kinda needlessly redid Eadrya's (they/them) demon form design instead of working on any of the other things (why am i like this)

more info (hahaha .. ha .. long post woops); their jaw is unhingable and their mouth can technically open all the way past their gills (?) with the lighter colored part being an extra flap of skin they are widely known as the most powerful demon to exist (not counting their dead demon god who is only very rarely able to possess shargon if given right circumstances but otherwise dont exist anymore) to the point that they generate so much coreblood/energy that excess is constantly being emitted to the environment around them giving them an aura felt even by humans (it generally has no drawbacks ... unless you later have to deal with demon hunters that use devices to detect demonic energy bc it kinda turns you into a lighthouse for them..) that fact also means they pretty much never have to eat or rest, though they are one of the very very few demons willing to eat other livings things and able to digest it (most demons cannot)

they are one of seven Lords, the Lord of Water specifically, and are very proud of that and, while acting like they dont care about anything or anyone, do probably the best job at keeping their world intact and other demons safe than anyone else- Eadrya is also kinda obsessed with strength and thus hates Shargon to the point of having attempted to murder him several times, not just bc he is so weak but mainly bc they think he selfishly took the title of King to essentially doom them all (since that title, only able to be given of demons with the core element of lightning, means that demon must be the one to go into battle alone for the protection of their world as the first line of defence, bc if the strongest demon, able to invoke their god, can defeat a threat alone theres no need to endanger anyone else, and if the king fails and the six remaining Lords cannot do the rest it was a lost battle to begin with--- the six Lords (not counting the King who starts as a Lord if none of the other accept them) also serve as a sort of council, and to put it bluntly, 'battery' for their god-

see, every demon naturally only has one main element, the Lords, if they accept the King as such, can lend the King part of their power enabling them to use more than one, with each acceptance their gods connection to the King gets stronger, and if it is summoned, will constantly siphon off (?) the strength of the Lords- which can kill them if its active for too long

MEANING that with Shargon being so unfit for that role it not only puts them all in danger, it also means all responsibility falls on them) a title like that cannot be undone once one accepts it, so alot of them, while not actively wishing harm upon him, hope a little that Shargon dies and a better King can be chosen

Eadrya, especially for the first part of the story, is an antagonist, and kinda an ass to everyone, the typical powerful, loud and mean guy that despite being never nice to anyone still does good, the only ones they really care about is Thor, an almost equally strong lightning demon and childhood friend who is also the only one Eadrya will listen to and due to Thors pacifist ideals always stops their outbursts, and Jyothi, Shargons daughter, who is a prodigy of a wind demon and has started to learn from Eadrya, much to Shargons dismay

generally they are way less mean to children and a surprisingly good and patient teacher ... if they are willing to teach you

(alot of their problems stem from a deep fear of being powerless and left alone- they dont think of themselves as highly as it seems and are actually very lonely- thinking that no one could actually genuinely like them for who they are and just does their bidding bc of their strength, of the fear they can instill in others-- they became a Lord at a horribly young age, not even having learned how to change form yet, and saw their parent, the previous Lord of Water (titles are not inherited, this was coincidence), slowly waste away with a strange disease, not even really understanding what was happening and after their passing spend months at the side of their corpse all alone)

they later have a character arc (that is horribly underselling it but i do not want to make this post any longer lol) and join the main group, one of my fav OCs of them all and the most detailed story and arc (god its so good i wish i could just show you all the movie in my head argh) besides Shargon :3
