My ideas for a New Vegas remake:
The Fallout 4 theme plays whenever the NCR is onscreen for some reason
Boone says “yeah it’s been pretty hard for me ever since my entire family in shady sands exploded four years ago. and now this?”
House breaks into maniacal giggling every so often, specifically when discussing human tragedy. Like ten seconds straight of giggling.
The Forecaster has an extra prediction option for the far future but he just shakes his head silently and gives you your money back.
When Joshua discusses the Dam he goes “With their capital city AND the trade route to the Mojave both being destroyed, we definitely never thought the NCR would fight for the Dam, let alone win. I guess we were just literally that incompetent.”
Dean is actually a valiant hero trying to stop the Brotherhood cult and get revenge on Sinclair for the unimaginable amount of suffering he apparently intentionally caused. He did torture a woman for weeks, though.
Caesar or Kimball or anyone mentions how the NCR has abandoned the entirety of Southern California and their seat of government is now 150 people in an observatory.

Honestly tho, this is years off, probably more than a decade, but I hope just because we're getting a Kalosian Legends game, that they don't skimp out on giving Kalos an actually GOOD remake when the time comes.
Especially as far as Team Flare-centric characters go. They had the most potential as a villain team, and XY dropped the ball so bad with them, I would hate for a BDSP-esque remake to do the same. No joke, these guys were most of the reason I wanted Z back in Gen6.
Like, Lysandre is pretty much at the forefront of Kalos' tech and communication, and is a very influential person there, they could do something with Malva running cover-ups for Flare in the news media, the entire organization is probably full of politically powerful people given the wealth of their members (Kalos could be quite corrupt for all we know), they have this secret stranglehold on the region, and it's scary, like no one in Kalos really had any idea how fucked they were until it was (almost) too late. Even the Champion was likely completely in the dark, their strongest line of defense was a total no-show, even when the Ultimate Weapon had been raised.
We can definitely pin that on Malva tho, since she keeps all of Kalos in the dark with her job in the news media, and as a mole in the E4, she likely keeps any sensitive information from Diantha too. And she gets away with ALL OF IT. Diantha never even knows, like even as far as Masters, she doesn't seem to be aware of Malva's true allegiance. And Malva never shows any regret or anything for what she did, she tries to justify it. She's even actively hostile to the player for taking them down, and routinely threatens to burn them up where they stand. (And this is before she becomes an accessory to murder in Masters, like, this woman smiles as Lysandre prepares to have Volcanion flash-boil a couple Rocket grunts. What is wrong with her.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Even the grunts, they're essentially a genocidal secret police of elitist fuckheads who don't give a single flying shit about throwing everyone else under the bus so long as they survive, listening in on Holocaster conversations and having some implicit plainclothes agents (showcased more in Masters tho), and given how wealthy the organization is, it would be very easy for them to make problem people disappear. Imagine if they played up that paranoia factor they have, like, you're on their radar getting into battles with them and interfering with their plans on the regular, Lysandre calls you at multiple points (and definitely knows you're the one causing trouble before the player character finds out he's their leader), you're definitely not safe.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, it would have been neat if Sycamore had been in on it too somehow, maybe a joint leadership with Lysandre or something with how he plays off the man's blatant bloodlust as just him being "passionate"? I was side-eyeing him my entire first playthru. But even tho that turned out to not be the case, it would have been cool if one of them tried to save the other, be it Lysandre kidnapping Sycamore to try to spare his friend from the culling, or Sycamore joining you on the front lines to try to talk some sense into his friend. It was such an interesting dynamic at the time, and it was always such a waste it barely got any development. (At least Masters and Evolutions have made steps to fix that complaint since, but still.)

i’m so fucking tired of all this complaining about the mean girls movie musical.
1) it’s the musical, not the original movie, so if you havent seen the musical before, things are going to be fucking different because ITS NOT THE MOVIE !!!!!! they dress different, they act diff, they talk diff, even the dynamics are a little diff.
2) people need to stop acting like the decision to make regina gay is the most angering, out-of-pocket thing in the world, because it fucking isn’t. people are acting like it’s the most absurd decision ever, and it isn’t. if you’re really that fucking upset over it, then the movie was obviously not fucking made FOR YOU. nobody is forcing you to watch it. (and i’m sure renee rapp would not want the $0.001 she makes off of your view)
istg, all i see everyday is all of these identical looking twinks complaining about how out of pocket it is, and how it doesn’t make any sense. if it was the opposite, nobody would be complaining. if aaron was gay, everyone would think it’s so cool. if there was a remake of like any other movie and they made a man gay, tik tok and everyone else would be so excited, praising it for its ingenious and its creativeness. but as soon as it’s a lesbian, people flip out. gay men have no issue iconizing all these women, until they’re lesbian.
so, here is me directly addressing some of these points that these people are making:
“it came out of nowhere” - did it really? literally the main conflict between the two sides in the movie is because regina told everyone that janis was a lesbian, and janis was like extremely hurt about it, even how many years later. it would make sense that the falling out had something to do with regina having feelings for her, or something along those lines
“regina was into aaron” - did you even watch the movie? like honestly, seriously, did you? she isn’t even into him. even if she dated him, it’s like one of the most common things for lgbtq people to have dated the opposite sex, even if they aren’t attracted to them, either for appearance, or simply not yet knowing, and this is like the most prevalent in teenagers. regina, in all honesty, did not seem all too into aaron when you look back on it. she used him quite literally as a pawn in front of cady’s face. she sat there in the one scene and purposefully used the fact that they were dating to aggravate cady. also, why are we acting like it isn’t a thing to be bisexual? she could literally just be bisexual. (just saying, y’all never seem to deny comphet when it’s a man 🙄)
“there’s no way an entire school was bullied by a lesbian” - WHAT? i’m sorry but what. i don’t even know what point this person was trying to make, but even so, they completely missed. aside from all of the things i could pick apart about this statement, i thought it was like a running joke that usually the popular bully in high school, usually turns out to be closeted (male or female). like not even saying that this is true, but this is like a popular generalization and joke, so this point doesn’t even make sense.
finally, reneé literally said she isn’t explicitly gay. she said it was just her vibes. people are getting this mad over a character who is just the slightest bit hinted about being a lesbian.
just leave it the fuck alone. let gay girls be happy over the slightest chance at representation, because we all know that gay men get almost all of it.
thank you
- a girl who likes girls and reneé rapp, who just wants a little bit of representation in something popular.

Haha, I also spoil myself intentionally, but for the plot of movies, tv shows, and games I’m not super invested in. If I accidentally spoil myself (especially if I learn a character dies) I’ll cope by telling myself “I don’t know how/when it happened though”
Anyways Major Character Death!!
I’m SO disappointed in them killing off Soap and especially in how they did it! No buildup or anything! To me it was disrespectful to the character and to Neil Ellice. And then the 141 don’t even say anything and it cuts to them spreading his ashes with a simple goodbye! They could have at least made them a little more upset 🥲 also I hate how abruptly the game ended. Makarov gets away, but no mention to that at the end.
I had also initially requested what would become infinity in the palm of your hand (eternity in an hour) as a way to “cope” with 2009 Soap’s death because it’s always been on the back of my mind for years (weird, I know). But now after playing the new MW3 campaign I look like boo boo the fool because of who went and got killed off 😭 now every time I go back to reread it, it will be painful knowing what’s in store for reader for their current reincarnation of Soap.
Tldr I’m kinda not okay with MW3.
From what I've seen, it feels like they pulled it out of a hat. All names went in, but his (amongst others) came out. And I guess it's safe because he died in the OG, so the backlash can easily be deflected from within their own community when other fans come to their defence over this choice. But idk.
I agree with everything you said. It doesn't make any sense. It's jarring and misplaced, and canonically pointless. I'm not against character death. Grief is a powerful thing. But I just hate when it's so contrived and needless. It was definitely done for shock value over plot/character growth and I think they were trying to re-create the massive storm that happened when OG Soap died because they know they don't have much else going for them. It just massively missed the mark because: a) Price and Gaz had no tangible in-game relationship with Soap the same way Ghost did; and b) what does his death really amount to in the end? Nothing. It feels cobbled together and poorly thought out. It's sad when Portal 2 has better writing than your whole remake combined. Honestly, it's kind of impressive how little thought they put into this. I'm getting flash backs to DGG's Halloween.
If it's any consolation, the mythology I based the reincarnation off of in infinity would essentially just be neverending. An ouroboros. The events would happen much the same way. A knock on the door. Spiral of grief. A bog. A deal. Restart. So, you'd just wake up again and live life until whatever the old you made a deal with decides it's time to collect. You're forever stuck in a loop with your soulmate until you get it right.
The rest is just how I kinda wish it went, but this was getting very long because I have more thoughts on this than I anticipated lmao 😅
Personally, I think it would have been much more interesting if they brought in a new passel of characters and slowly chipped off the main cast in a series of horrible decisions that slowly begin to feel hollow and empty. That leave you, the player, feeling emotionally gutted with each new chapter because the choices previously are absolutely impacting the way they move forward, but they're too deep into their own revenge fantasy to see it until the very end when it's too late. Give me actions have consequences and every choice you make is directly responsible for someone's death. The realities of war. And what happens when you give a group of people the power to play god in countries they know nothing about. It would have matched the gritty tone they tried to go for with the trailers and actually served as an interesting conversation about war and how we tend to deify the military when they're just men with too much power in their hands. Instead, we have a death that means nothing. That arguably happened much too early in the series so the payoff is solely meant for clicks and reaction channels. Pointless.
And Makarov. A Russian Ultra Nationalist. I feel like that title alone says everything for me, and yet. They still somehow managed to give a Russian War Criminal so many wins. I'm just so irritated by it all.

You know I'm so maaaad seeing multiple videos with titles like "The ATLA live action actually sucks" on my feed. It's so freaking upsetting to hear the worst takes trying to justify their negativity just because the show is not point for point exactly like the cartoon. NEWSFLASH, IT WAS NEVER GOING TO BE EXACTLY THE SAME, IT DOESN'T MAKE IT BAD. The crew clearly cares a ton about the show. The additions they made truly ADD to the scenes we already know. The meshing of episodes/settings necessary to go through the whole first season in only eight episodes is honestly as clever as it could be, things make sense.
Fans just decided from the get-go, from the very announcement of the show, that they would hate it, that they would be disappointed, that it would be terrible. It's really unfair to the creators and young actors who clearly put their hearts into this, to have the fandom just shit on their work, and for what. What do you really want? You would've shat on any live action remake. Do you realize how rare it is to have a cast and crew like the one on this show???? Feels so ungrateful whek they're simply reviving something beloved for new and wider audiences to get to know and love. It's truly shameful to see the lazy take down takes given as reasons to hate this. Really ashamed of what I'm seeing. Wish we could just appreciate getting this new content because it's freaking amazing.

Ok but like. I've been thinking of technology in ff7 and parallels between the ff7 timeline and ours and honestly the differences just. They make sense. More than this first paragraph does for sure at least
So. Let's try to assume that the year 0000 in ff7 corresponds to our 2000. So the 90's in ff7 correspond to our 90's, the 80's to our 80's, and so on. Obviously there are some massive differences in technological advancement, especially with Remake/Rebirth giving people smartphones as opposed to the flip phones of the earlier games. If we go with the Remake/Rebirth version, that's more advanced than our early 2000's. Robotics and AI are obviously ages ahead in ff7 compared to us. Possibly bioengineering too, but that can be explained by ff7 having mako and monsters and Jenova when we obviously don't.
But when you think about it, it makes sense. It's about war. Shinra has been actively at war for decades before canon (Wutai in the 90's, and before that the Junon Republic). And it's also fundamentally a technological juggernaut with endless money to throw at research. Robotics and AI being advanced? Shinra uses mechas as weapons, sometimes Wutai never seems to have done. Of course that sector is way more developed, Shinra had an interest in making better, smarter weapons. Smartphones? Obviously developing communication technology is important if you want to take over the world. And once the war is over, Shinra can charmingly recycle their discoveries in things people will like
We can consider instead what the ff7 world doesn't have. There are no high speed trains, or long distance trains at all. Shinra doesn't have a use for it. Wutai was an island so trains wouldn't get Shinra there. Rebirth tells us the Republic of Junon had plenty of roads, but Shinra let them fall apart after taking over, because no use for roads when you can fly your operatives around, and everyone else can suck it up. Why would they even think about things like trains? There are also no power plants outside of mako reactors, obviously, and the only traces that energy sources other than mako were ever used are Corel's abandoned coal mines and as for Rebirth some abandoned Junon era windmills. Oh, and the abandoned oil fields On the Way to a Smile mentions. None are exactly the latest technology when it comes to energy production. Because Shinra would have to be insane to invest a single cent in any kind of energy research that isn't mako
And of course, space technology. In our world, Yuri Gagarin was in space in 1961, and we had people on the moon before the end of the 60's. And why was that? Because of the space race, because we had the Cold War, and sending someone into space was an amazing way to show off your country was the best country, and so both the US and the USSR funneled money into space research. In ff7? There was no Cold War. No rush to develop space technology by the 60's. Maybe the Republic of Junon or whoever would have worked it out at a slower pace, but then Shinra started its very much not cold wars, and there was no reason to invest into a space program then. Not when money and resources could make weapons, instead of rockets. Only after the end of the Wutai War was Cid sent to go into space - as a publicity stunt from Shinra, of course. And when his launch failed (for safety issues, may I add), Shinra didn't bother to make another. No point in it. No need to show how great your technology is when no one else on the Planet is making technology
I mean I'm sure Shinra has satellites because they gotta make those smartphones work somehow. But as of the early 2000's, no one was into space. Shinra's space program is scrapped, and has Palmer of all people in charge. It seems the only people who actually care to study the universe are the planetologists in Cosmo Canyon. So is astrophysics just considered some useless hippy science in the ff7 world? You can't squeeze mako out of space, so let's just not bother with it ever?
I'm just having a massive moment about technological advancement and scientific research being subservient to whatever the latest global imperialist superpower and what its practical wants and needs are. And also how in ff7 the only scientists we see are either on the Shinra payroll, all on varying levels of unethical experimentation, or in Cosmo Canyon, which I don't think gets a lot of research grants on average, or the engineers left jobless around in Rocket Town after the failed lunch. Want a career in science, either get consumed by the evil megacorporation and lose whatever morals you might have had, or get fucked

I think that the Little Mermaid live action remake may be the only remake that was worth it tbh.
Thoughts:
For all the complaints about Sebastian and Flounder looking creepy in stills, I didn't actually find them that bad looking when moving? They looked fine to me, honestly, and I thought they had good voices.
For all the complaints about the Scuttle song, I expected it to be a lot worse? It wasn't my favorite song of the movie, and I probably won't go out of my way to listen to it, but if I'm listening to the soundtrack, I probably won't skip it?
Like I was expecting something hellish, and it was fine. Just fine.
There were a couple of kids in the audience, and when we saw Ariel in her blue dress the first time, one of the kids said, "she looks pretty!" and later after the lagoon scene, another kid said, "I want them to kiss already," you and me both kid. |D
They cut out Ursula's stanza about body language, but then also changed it so that she'd tricked Ariel with an amnesia spell, so that change made sense; why bother telling Ariel how to seduce Eric when the whole point is she doesn't want Ariel to?
TBH I didn't like that plot point at first, then I talked myself into liking it lol, since it let them both fall in love without any ulterior motives. Nice job fixing it Ursula.
As someone who has cosplayed Ursula, I really want to try making this costume. The last time, my corset top broke in the back mid-con and I had to hug it to my chest while sneaking into the medical center to get it taped up until I could get to my hotel. It was. A problem. This one looks safer lmao.
On one hand, fuck Disney, on the other hand, if they made live action remakes and had Halle Bailey and Jonah Hauer-King as the leads in all of the movies, I would probably watch them. They had great chemistry holy shit.
There were only a couple of places where I found the CGI to be funky, like the end scene where Triton had to be above water. Everywhere else I was able to ignore it.
When the reunite at the end and you think it's gonna be a Big Damn Kiss and it is! But it's also them holding onto each other for dear life because they're together again.
I just liked it a lot y'all.

My favourite thing ever is the way Ashley gets Leon to smile. Honest to god, his most sincere and genuine smiles are the ones he's given Ashley.
Now if she could just get him to laugh, that would be something completely unprecedented.
Sorry, it just occurred to me literally today that Leon never laughs -- even one time -- at any point in this series. Other protagonists, at the very least, laugh at how stupid a villain's plan is sometimes. Not this guy. Not our Leon. He's too dead inside. Bro doesn't even laugh at OG Salazar, who may as well have circus music playing in the background any time he's on screen. We stan a depressed king.
I was actually thinking about this a little last night -- again, in the context of the whole "Ashley is Leon's anchor to reality/his road back to himself" thing that I've talked about before, while also paired with the shitpost-but-not I made the other day about Leon's sense of self-worth and identity.
Leon drifts further and further away from himself as the series goes on, and not only does he not smile anymore, he becomes downright sullen. There was a time -- a significant period of time, actually -- where you could have said that one of Leon's defining traits was his optimism. That stops being true by the time of Damnation; Leon's optimism is replaced by hollow machismo in a poor attempt at a coping mechanism in that movie -- and, by the time of Vendetta, even the machismo has fallen to the wayside. By the age of 37, Leon has completely and utterly embraced the creeping sense of despair that's been hounding his steps for years.
That has never been who he was. But it's who he is now.
And, as soon as I had that thought, something occurred to me that I somehow had not noticed in the 18 years since RE4 OG has been out:
Ashley is a foil for Ada.
That wasn't her intended purpose when she was created, but it's the narrative role that she's come to inhabit as the series has gone on and Leon's character has progressed without her.
In OG canon, Leon thinks of Ada as a part of himself that he can't let go. But the longer he clings to her, the less of himself he becomes.
And the last person to actually see him as his true self, lifted up from the despair, and without hiding (fully) behind a veneer of machismo was Ashley -- someone he did let go. Even in OG, he is very genuine and very sincere with his affection for her (platonic or not) in a way he really isn't with anyone after RE4.
So, when you point out that his smiles for her are genuine, there's really something to that. He trusts Ashley with a piece of his heart that he doesn't show to anyone else post-RE2. Like, literally, the last person who probably saw him like that was Sherry, and we already know that Leon estranges himself from her almost completely after they're taken into CIA custody following RE2.
And the Remakes make this way more obvious than the OG games did, too -- not only because of the RE engine being great for facial expressions, but because of the way the script changes make certain parts of Leon's character more noticeable. If you go straight from RE2make to RE4make, the entire opening sequence involving the cops and the hunting lodge is absolutely horrifying. If I was a new fan coming in from RE2make to RE4make, I would be knocked on my ass and going "This is not my Leon. This is not the sweet boy that I know. What the fuck happened to him?"
RE4make does such a good job with sharply juxtaposing who Leon was with who he is now. By the time of RE4make, Leon is so beaten down and tired and closed off and angry and, honestly, scared -- that he almost kind of feels like a completely different character. Except, he's not a different character. He's still Leon -- just, Leon with his blinders ripped off and his heart broken.
And, we know that he's still Leon, because every once in a while, the sweet boy that we know comes back. It's infrequent, and it's only for a few moments, but he's still in there. And it always -- every single time -- is only ever Ashley that pulls it out of him.
And Ada? She forces him to retreat again immediately, and he locks himself back up tight.
So, when Ashley gets permanently erased from Leon's life and Ada becomes more of a permanent fixture in it, that sweet boy from RE2 disappears, and he's replaced entirely by the version of Leon that's heartbroken and angry all the time -- because Ada is a constant reminder of all that he's lost, whereas Ashley, as his only true success story, was a hopeful reminder of all that he could potentially be.
I honestly don't think that Capcom even realizes that this is how they've written Leon's character. I don't think it was intentional for Leon's smile to fade with Ashley's absence in his life.
But that's just kind of how it happened.

Alrighty here’s mah lil ranty rant (But long, many apologies I dunno how I could shorten it)
Let’s start with Ada bc mommy- I mean mommy- I mean- (/j)
Ada Wong:
-So I see a lot of people trash Ada for the fact her personality seems to be more cold. She has distant she’s cruel (although she still seems to have lines she won’t cross, like with Wesker and the Las Plagas sample). I see people complain about that but I would like to make a hot take, here: it’s actually better. She’s a mercenary. She’s a gun for hire- her job has to be cold because she could be betraying her friends at any given second. In the older games, she was sort of just… I don’t know… A bit too human for the job, and the role in the story that she is meant to fill. I see people describing her as a Bella, and honestly, I strongly disagree. In fact, I would argue that the original was more of a Bella then the remakes. This is because all she was really there is for the generic “Ooh look pretty woman, bad ass eye candy” trope. I’m not saying that she didn’t have any depth as a character- I’m just saying that the remake gave her much more credit as a character, and made her much more interesting.
all right, moving onto the old man. (#1 Wesker hater over here I’m sorry I’m not sorry lol)
Albert Wesker:
-I know that I hate this guy, but even I have to appreciate that out of quite a few of the Weskers that have been made, this version is just better written. I see people complain that he is too angry and honestly, I disagree. The fact that he has a hidden anger, makes sense from a character perspective. And he’s getting increasingly more cheesed off at Spencer for obvious reasons. No wonder he’s pissed. Personally, I think the fact that they’re showing that he has emotions- he’s just learned to control them- is honestly much more compelling. I still hate the guy, but I can see where he’s coming from- in a twisted and a messed up way.
yeah. That’s it l. that’s all I got for him. I don’t really like him that much so he doesn’t deserve a whole essay like Ada imo. (Still like his character, though he’s very interesting.)
that’s my rant. Thanks for hearing me out -> I know this was ridiculously long. That’s why I asked permission first. I basically just wrote an entire essay in your asks and I am so sorry lmao
hjadsg no need to apologise. I may have to contest you for #1 wesker hater tho,,, 👀 I hate his guts too
BUT you're absolutely right the DLC added so much depth to their characters. and personally made wesker MORE hate-able to me personally because we just further see how messed up he is, to the point where even Ada - who has had to numb herself to the details of the job to survive - had visible negative reactions to his genocidal nonsense. I loved Lily's performance in the base game but she especially got to shine in the DLC, she absolutely nailed the cold look with emotion hidden underneath. Ada's cold exterior is her armour against her own emotions, she can't take a second to feel as that could be the second she dies, she doesn't have the luxury of emotional vulnerability; even though she does feel, she does care, she cannot afford to let herself. And little things like eye movements, lip twitches, subtle body language, and her inflections were all techniques Lily used to portray that tumultuous relationship between Ada and her feelings, and Lily did fucking amazing at it. Best Ada performance ever. Ada's never been allowed that depth before because she's always had to be palatable to the male audience :) so I'm glad she's finally getting it. And Wesker finally feels like a real villain, rather than just another power hungry white guy (which, he very much is, but now there's depth to it lol). Wesker's dialogue in the DLC is scary, and it makes the audience more aware of what exactly he believes and what his motives are. This DLC added so much to the base game that really drives it as my favourite RE game.

I got an ask about favorite winx transformations and if my thoughts have changed at all in the last couple years that was lost to the void when my computer crashed like 3 hours ago and while I made one post about that aeons ago I don't want to go edit it again so I'm just remaking it wholesale lol. I think at this point y'all are familiar with my TakesTM so I don't need an intro, all the shit is below the cut. also this is for. all of them. like the comic ones included. also gonna provide images for them because it is all of them and most people don't know about the 9 comic ones.
*takes a look at the amount of transformations* oh god we're at 24 of these fuckers? lord. anyways we're going worst to best and honestly most of the worst ones will be the comic ones lol. Also I'm grouping MW and Charmix as Charmix Specials-style because they are just an accessory on top and the rest is the same so they will be judged together so that brings it down to 23.
23 - Paintix
Tumblr media
This is by far the most creatively bankrupt of the transformations. Literally the exact same ugly top skirt boots combo 8 times. I have never found scans of the issue its featured in but they could have done so much more with a transformation themed around color? like c'mon here.
22 - Greenix
Tumblr media
This one is better than Paintix for at least giving the girls different colors for more than just one (1) part but it's still the same exact dress 6 times with only minimal variation on the vines along the top, and it's sad, because this is supposed to be THE vegetation transformation as it represents the ENTIRE POWER OF LYNPHEA at your fingertips.
21 - Trendix
THIS ONE DOESN'T EVEN HAVE ACTUAL GRAPHICS BECAUSE IT'S FROM A BOOK but the idea is that it's just Fashion Cheatcode the transformation and only Bloom, Stella and Flora get it so it's low, but above Paintix and Greenix for cheating in a way I find funny.
20 - Magic of Sports
Tumblr media
Okay this one isn't even a real transformation as they just get wings with their regular fútbol fits (it's from the 2014 world cup issue) but at least the girls are wearing different outfits and the wings are also different colors so it has that going over Paintix and Greenix.
19 - Magic Rock
Tumblr media
this one's a crime. but a crime with more thought put into it than the rest, so it's higher than them. Props to them, they all have different silhouettes and there are forms higher than them that can't break that treshold, but that still is not enough. What are they wearing. what is that. Musa why are you a makeup brush. Also they use this form to beat ghosts and win a music contest. what.
18 - Tynix
Tumblr media
I've never been shy about my dislike for Tynix, and I feel this shows it well enough lol. bullshit obtainment aside I just think it's ugly - the construction paper gems, the shitty undersuit, the clunky broken glass heels, the random ruffles, it's all bad. The wings and the hair are cool and. that's about it really.
17 - Enchantix
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I've also never been shy about my utter hatred for Enchantix, so I won't really rethread old ground here, but basically I think it's bullshit overall and it's only above Tynix despite hating Enchantix more because I can begrudgingly agree some of them are pretty. Still hate they're all flowers tho that's just bad. if you removed or adjusted the extra pink and restored everyone's skintones so they're not whitewashed S8 Enchantix would kick the ass of OG Enchantix to the curve visually (except Flora's she took a downgrade)
16 - Mermaid form
Tumblr media
Yeah I also hate this one. I just don't think it makes sense to have fairy mermaids when mermaids are already a species in Winx and when the show cannot make up its mind if being fairy is a CHOICE or if being fairy is a BIOLOGICAL CONDITION, we don't need this shit muddling things up further. Points for giving Tecna proper wings tho good for them.
16.5 - S8 Sirenix and Crystal Sirenix
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm also throwing the two S8 Sirenix ones in this tier because I don't like them either lol. S8 Sirenix fairs better than Crystal but not by that much.
15 - Travelix
Tumblr media
We start the area where I just think they look... fine. I like the idea of the visuals and this is a transformation that SHOULD'VE been in the show proper (really they would've made more dolls that way) but it's also not anything groundbreaking. For those curious this is the transformation granted by the Stone of Memories that allows someone to travel in time. hence me saying it should've been in the show proper lol.
14 and 13 - Sophix and Lovix (position changes)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some of them are good! Some of them suck ass. And therefore they end here because they aren't more than just Believix, Summer and Winter editions.
12 - Butterflix
Tumblr media
I love the Butterflix wings and hairstyles and I think it had a solid IDEA but they put TECNA in a tutu and some crimes cannot be forgiven. points for having Stella's bodice be sunbeams tho.
11 - Dreamix
Tumblr media
I don't really care all that much for Dreamix, but it edges out Butterflix, and that's the reason for this placement. I still don't get what the netting is supposed to be but I do love the wings.
10 - Onyrix
Tumblr media
Onyrix also only slightly edges out Dreamix - the colors are worse and the wings are bad but I find it more visually interesting than Dreamix and it gave us Blue Stella back, so it has rights on that alone.
9 - Harmonix
Tumblr media
We're getting into the ones I'm more positive for! but half of Harmonix is gorgeous half of Harmonix is bad. LOVE the idea of the trails and it has THE best spells out of any transformation but I genuinely don't think it's a transformation SUPER fit for being underwater and given that's its purpose it kinda. falters lol. Also I don't get how the trails are meant to be like mermaid tails? Everyone says that and I just don't see it. I see them as waterfalls more than anything else really.
8 - Magic of Food
Tumblr media
Yes. I'm ranking the food form this high. Why? Simple - it's actually. really well done? Flora and Bloom's hair is trash but they went for a weird concept and made a transformation that actually looks pretty appropiate all in all, and I know this is because it's a sponsored transformation but hey, that cash went to a good-ass look lol.
7 - Magic of Joy
Tumblr media
LOOK AT THIS. LOOK AT IT. ENCHANTIX WISHES IT HAD THIS EFFORTLESS ELEGANT SIMPLICITY. The wings being the same is lame but they all just look so pretty AND THEY TOOK THE TIME TO MAKE SURE TECNA HAD PANTS and I have to commend that. Bless you quokkas you funky animal you, thank you for giving this to us.
6 -Cosmix
Tumblr media
OH COSMIX I WISH I COULD LOVE YOU MORE I genuinely find it pretty for the most part and it's the best Tecna and Musa have looked in years but I just cannot forgive Stella's vagina collar. I cannot.
5 - Charmix
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What even IS there to say about the OG? the very first? It's iconic all on its own but I know my love of it is mainly guided by the happy memories of watching S1 and S2 as a child. That and some of the bags are not that great.
4 - Mythix
Tumblr media
MYTHIX HAS RIGHTS AND I STAND BY THAT. IT'S WHAT ENCHANTIX SHOULD'VE BEEN. I am a person of simple tastes, I see magic wand I go apeshit. Also peak wings no wings rival the Mythix wings if you disagree you are wrong hate the dresses if you want but you cannot argue with me about the wings. I do agree some of the shoes are ugly tho.
3 - Sirenix
Tumblr media
Yeah I love Sirenix. I understand the complaints about it being samey but I just love it - the ribbons, the hair streaks, the fins in the legs, the fish scale pattern leggings, I just think it slaps and it being wetsuit-based is so fitting for it. Shame about the same wings tho. Also we all know Sirenix has THE best transformation song ever made and that's a FACT.
2 - Bloomix
Tumblr media
Bloomix is, objectively, the BEST the Winx have ever looked like. you cannot beat armor, you cannot. Stella's hair is a disgrace but it was the tradeoff for Flora being freed from her shitty hair blades for ONCE in her life and it's overall really good looking.
1 - Believix
Tumblr media
Believix is peak and always will be. The perfect blend of fairy whimsy and modern aesthetics (for the time). The wings. the song. the transformation sequence. Really the only bad is Musa's shitty aerobics instructor pants and even then that fits her so I can't be TOO mad. Believix is love Believix is life.

I didn’t want to be a hater of the new Peter Pan remake before it even started, and I’m not hating, but as someone who cherishes the original book and various adaptations of the story, I do have some things I need to say regarding the Disney remake.
Firstly, I’ve seen people complain about the diversity - namely Peter and Tinkerbell. I don’t have a problem with non-white actors playing any parts - I think Yara is beautiful as Tinkerbell and I’m intrigued to see what Alexander Molony brings since the trailer didn’t really showcase much of him as Peter. The Lost Boys especially being a diverse group makes sense to me as they’re “lost” - they should all look different; I welcome the casting of non-white, disabled etc boys in the gang. Anyone complaining about “wokeness” just because they’re not all pasty white kids is just racist; I’ve even seen people complaining Tiger Lily isn’t white, which…? Hello??? She has NEVER been white, she and her tribe have always been Native Americans.
Having said that, the Lost Boys should all still be boys - “girls are much too clever to fall out of their prams”, and the fact that Wendy is the first girl they meet and they see her as a motherly figure because the only girls/women they’ve ever known have presumably been fairies, Tiger Lily (who is a princess in her tribe) or the distant memories they hold of their own mothers. Supposedly you could argue that “Lost Boys” is just the name of their gang, regardless of whether it’s boys or girls in the group, but still… I don’t know. Maybe I’m just old-fashioned, but I don’t particularly agree with this change. But honestly, it’s not the end of the world, I can get over it.
“Wahhh they’ve made Wendy the main character and not Peter Pan!!!” — my guys… the original novel was LITERALLY called Peter and Wendy. The book literally opens with this paragraph:
“All children, except one, grow up. They soon know that they will grow up, and the way Wendy knew was this. One day when she was two years old she was playing in a garden, and she plucked another flower and ran with it to her mother. I suppose she must have looked rather de- lightful, for Mrs. Darling put her hand to her heart and cried, “Oh, why can’t you remain like this for ever!” This was all that passed between them on the subject, but henceforth Wendy knew that she must grow up. You always know after you are two. Two is the beginning of the end.”
This is literally Wendy’s story that ends with her deciding to go home and grow up; we meet Peter through her eyes, not the other way around. If you’re that mad that Wendy is being given a big part, you clearly haven’t bothered to read the source material and you’re just mad because you don’t like the idea of the female character being the protagonist.
If you want to take an issue with casting/characters, look at Hook/Mr Darling: how they’ve made Hook look aside (although… mmm, yikes), Disney has decided not to have the same actor play Hook and Mr Darling - Hook is Jude Law and Mr Darling is Alan Tudyk. I have nothing to comment on either of them as actors: my issue is that it’s a tradition for the same actor to play both of them that originates back to when the story was a stage play and has carried over to other media adaptations of the story. Having the same actor play both parts adds extra layers to the story (the relationship with the father vs fighting Captain Hook, parallels between the two characters, the subtext between Wendy and Hook as she’s on the cusp of adulthood etc).
My main issue though? The colour palette of this film - and all the Disney remakes, in fact.
I think the current colour palette of dull greys and muted greens could have worked for the London scenes because then the contrast between it and Neverland would have been even more striking; Neverland is a magical place where the children don’t want to grow up. Barrie wrote in his book that the Neverlands are found in the minds of children; although each is "always more or less an island" as well as having a family resemblance, they are not the same from one child to the next. For example, John’s Neverland had "a lagoon with flamingos flying over it," while Michael's had "a flamingo with lagoons flying over it." Neverland should be magical and colourful to reflect this, because a child’s imagination is limitless.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This just looks… dull. Like they’ve put a filter over it to make it look gritty.
In comparison, this is how the original animated film looked:
Tumblr media
“But it’s live action, of course it’ll look less colourful” - wrong. The 2003 live action managed to make Neverland look twice as colourful as this new film, and that was released two entire decades before:
Tumblr media
It’s not just this remake: it’s most remakes quite frankly - The Lion King, Little Mermaid, etc.
I don’t want to hate on the film when it’s not actually out yet, and I’m going to reserve full judgement until it does release, but I feel like people are claiming anyone with criticism is just being racist when there are genuine critiques and concerns. As I said, I don’t have any issue with the casting or in diversifying the cast, my issue comes from the colour palette of the film, the changes from the source material where there don’t need to be changes, and also the fact that Disney (and most other companies for that matter) should waste less money on pointless remakes and spend more resources producing original content.

I was thinking about how I would approach the issue of condensing a 20 episode season of ATLA Book 1 into 8 episodes (albeit significantly longer) of the live action remake. Obviously, some cuts would have to be made, so I wanted to do a bit of speculating about what I would cut.
The intro episodes with the Southern Water Tribe, visits to the Southern Air Temple and Kyoshi Island I think are just too important and iconic to be changed significantly.
I’m not a fan of King of Omashu. However, Omashu is a very important setting, because without introducing it, the iconic Return to Omashu makes no sense. Also, we know that Bumi will appear in the remake. I do hope that we don’t spend too much time in Omashu.
I have similar feelings about Imprisoned. I wouldn’t cut it because it’s a badass Katara episode and it shows both her admirable qualities but also her flaws, and how she is willing to endanger the overall mission for the sake of helping innocents. That said, this is an episode that could be scaled down a little.
Winter Solstice is a pretty key episode, because it introduces the spirit world and all of its creatures, as well as Roku and important Avatar lore. You don’t mess with this. Nor do you mess with the Waterbending Scroll, damn it.
Jet? I’d cut this one entirely. 😅 okay, okay, don’t shoot, obviously we can’t cut it entirely because Jet comes back in Book 2, although he probably wishes he hadn’t. I think we can completely dismiss The Great Divide, though, such a waste of everyone’s time.
The Storm is such an important episode for both Zuko and Aang. Maybe it can be scaled back and/or incorporated with another episode, but there are things from this episode that should be preserved. The Blue Spirit continues this setting up of Zuko and Aang as narrative foils. Again, these two episodes definitely form an important narrative whole that shouldn’t be dismissed.
Which is something I can’t say about the Fortuneteller. Kill it! kill it with fire!
Bato of the Water is in my opinion an underrated great episode. I like that Aang has a bit of a jerk moment, and I hope it doesn’t get erased in the remake. And I obviously can’t wait for June’s appearance, best character design I’ve seen so far. ❤️
The Deserter is also a pivotal episode which leads into Aang’s difficult relationship with firebending and Katara discovering her talent of healing. You can’t cut this one.
The Northern Air Temple… tough one, because again, the setting and the battle itself are excellent. And we know that the Mechanic has been cast for the remake, so they’re going to use this episode. But when I’m thinking about what exactly this episode brought to the show, the only important event was the Fire Nation getting their hands on a hot air balloon. There are many other ways that could have been arranged, though, so I would cut this episode.
The final three episodes set in the Northern Water tribe… once again, pivotal, iconic, epic and shouldn’t be touched, imo.
Yeah, honestly looking at Book 1, there’s some stuff that I guess could be cut, but way more that I don’t want to see touched… so that just makes me more nervous about the live action 😅

Remaking 1995's "Pocahontas"
Tumblr media
This is definitely one of Disney's most controversial films, and I wanted to take a stab at remaking it, stripping back historical associations so it could be a fantasy film that Disney could release in the 2020s without too much concern for offending Indigenous Americans. Please let me know your thoughts!
Part 1: Reference Panel/Designs
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
When making Pocahontas as a character, the directors drew upon Native American, Asian, and Black women to create her character, though it'd obviously be best to use Native American women if we were creating her in this time and age to show more cultural appreciation. In this specific case, I'd imagine using models like Ashley Callingbull and Quannah Chasinghorse as inspiration for Pocahontas. Since this is an original story, I'd wonder if they'd adhere to something similar to her blue concept art, her 2013 redesign, or something new altogether. Both designs are beautiful and avoid the sexualization of her original incarnation in the film.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In my mind, the love interest for Pocahontas would be a cross between John Smith and John Rolfe, having Smith's taste for adventure while still keeping Rolfe's academic intellect and skills with diplomacy. While overcoming racism is a big deal for Smith in the film, I feel like it'd make him too unlikable, as with Rolfe's sexism in the sequel. While I can see him having ignorance and preconceived notions, I feel like it's better to show him as someone new to the colonizing game and have a fresh, Thomas-like mentality (albeit slightly less innocent). This new love interest would have one of John Smith's earlier designs. I could definitely see him being inspired by Captain America: dutiful and loyal, but open to new ideas and perspectives. Honestly, his character would be a lot closer to Captain Phoebus from Disney's "Hunchback of Notre Dame."
Part 2: Story Changes
New Setting. As I mentioned before, I'd be making this a 100% original story, so this isn't set in America, the cultures that the two sides come from are fictional, and we use different names.
Tumblr media
2. Different varieties of colonists. Aside from the traditional white settlers, we'd also see other Old World colonists, hailing from Asia and Africa. I know some people would think this just a minor shoutout for diversity, but I included this based on African slaves that came with the Europeans as well as Asian migrants that came to America during the 16th and 17th centuries.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
3. We see more of Pocahontas' family. It's mentioned that historically, she had several half-siblings, so giving this fictional version of her three or four siblings would be neat, especially so you can see how tied she is to her culture. I'd probably also make Nakoma one of her sisters, since they have a sisterly bond. I'd also consider making the fictional version of Kocoum her brother instead of her betrothed, since I feel like it makes the audience care more about him and it'd explain why he's so protective of her. Expanding on Pocahontas' mother would also be awesome.
Tumblr media
4. Thomas is John's brother. At first I thought this simply because in this version they'd both have red hair, but I thought about how Thomas was trying to make a good life for his family as well as how John Smith looked out for him like a little brother. Since I'm removing John's colonizing experience here and Thomas would be more likely to listen to Radcliffe if he and John weren't related, I think it makes sense that John influences his thoughts and decisions the most about the new world.
Tumblr media
5. There's more of a cultural exchange. In part 1, Pocahontas mostly tells Smith about her world, while in part 2, Rolfe mainly tells her about his world. I'd like to combine the two so they can get to know and understand each other very well.
Tumblr media
6. The fantasy aspect--it's easy to forget I'm not just changing controversial elements. Perhaps it's due to my thoughts on "Avatar: The Last Airbender," but I do like the idea of the colonists and Natives being able to use magic; not only is it entertaining for the audience, but it can also be symbolic for several situations, ie the colonists bringing diseases to the Natives, and the Natives' spiritual connection to nature while the colonists' being much more "modern" and less elemental.
Tumblr media
7. This happens over a period of years. I feel like this is great to let Pocahontas and John's relationship grow organically (since some think her and John Smith's relationship was rushed and encouraged by passion), as well as showing us how the relationship between the Natives and the colonists fluctuate.
Hope you like my ideas! Lemme know what you think or if you have any questions. Would this have made you enjoy the film more?

Content warnings: mentions of unwanted touching, classic douchebag guy
Part Nine
So perhaps my crush on Spencer has come back. Okay, my crush on Spencer has definitely come back. But it’s suppressible. It’s manageable. Which is a good thing because he’s coming over tonight.
I’m going out with CeCe and some others later tonight, and Spencer’s going to babysit Jack. Dad has decided he needs a Friday night to himself and whiskey at the bar or he’ll go insane.
Our paths will cross, even though briefly, and I need to not show him I like him. It’ll be weird. But I have some time until said crossing of paths.
It’s only 11am right now, and I’m sitting on the couch, watching Spider-man with Jack (and thirsting over Andrew Garfield.) Dad is doing some paperwork or whatever it is he does in his home office, staring down at files with an exhausted expression written all over his face.
Spring break is ending soon, but I’d rather not think about it. Honestly, I’ve been debating on finishing the semester out online. I’ve been wanting to transfer to Georgetown here in DC anyway, but I haven’t mentioned it to Dad. He’d get too excited, and I wouldn’t want to let him down if I decided to stay in New York.
I just think it could be good for him and for Jack for me to be close. And for me too. I miss them and living at home would save me a lot of money. It would keep Aunt Jessica from having to be his nanny all the time. Really, me moving back is sensible. And it’s not like I hate it here. Sure, me and Dad but heads and I hate being controlled like he tries to do, but he’s trying to change and I’ll mature even more eventually.
“It would be so cool to swing from buildings,” Jack proclaims, pulling me away from my thoughts.
“Hell no,” I say, shaking my head. “Heights are scary.”
“Not if you had spidey senses.”
“I don’t know, Jack Jack. I think I’d still be scared sh- poopless.”
My little brother laughs at my choice of words then turns his attention back to Peter Parker on the screen.
I like when he watches the live action versions of superhero movies rather than the cartoons, and not because the actors are always hot. I find them more relatable and appealing. But also because the actors are always hot. I mean have you seen Robert Downey Jr?
We continue to watch the movie, and Peter Parker’s brilliance and nerdiness remakes Spencer pop into my mind. Which makes me annoyed because since the last time I saw him, two days ago, I’ve thought about him at least 25 times. I cannot be turning back into 17 year old me.
Dad has surprisingly not lectured me about going out tonight, but it’s not like I’m going to another party to drink. Sometimes he acts like I’m this wild child that parties every night and does drugs. Which isn’t the case at all. I’ve never even smoked weed. I almost did one time then I was convinced my dad would smell it on me when I went back home, even if it was going to be another two weeks. Anyway, since his promise to chill the fuck out, he hasn’t said much of anything about me going out. I appreciate it.
I’m hoping that if I do decide to stay here in DC, that we will create a system. One where I can hang out with friends and party as long as I’m responsible and continue my school work, which there’s absolutely no chance that I would ever sacrifice my career. I’m too much like him. One where he can go out and take a break when he needs to, and I can be here for Jack.
The time finally passes, and I start getting ready for our hangout. I’m going out with CeCe and the guy she’s talking to I suppose. They’re not officially, but they’re not seeing anyone other than each other. Anyway, he’s bringing his friend he met from college. I’ve never met his friend, but CeCe introduced me to Jacob a couple of months ago.
I slip into a little green dress and chunky white heels. It’s just a casual get together, and I have no idea why I’m dressing to impress some guy I don’t even know, but here I am, applying my eyeliner carefully so that it looks perfect. Subconsciously, I know I’m trying to impress this guy so that he can help me get over Spencer. It’s wrong, and I’m not proud, but I’m not ashamed enough to not do it.
Jack is sitting in the floor of his room, playing on the rug with little roads and houses on it for him to drive his toy trucks. I check in on him a few times to make sure he’s okay while I get ready.
“Jade?” I hear from downstairs.
I recognize Spencer’s voice the millisecond my name releases his lips. I like the way it sounds…
He still has the key from when he stayed with Jack and I.
“Upstairs,” I call back.
A few minutes later, I head down the stairs to see Jack already with Spencer. He looks up from the couch, and I swear his face turns a shade of red that almost makes me melt into a puddle in front of the door.
“W- wow,” he whispers.
I blush and move my hair from my face. “What?” I play dumb, biting my lip softly.
I have no idea what’s going on here, but I can physically feel whatever it is.
“Your dress is pretty,” he says with a soft smile.
“Yeah?” I smile, looking down at myself with a little side to side twirl, my dress flowing with each movement. “I-is there anything you need before I go?”
Spencer shakes his head. “No.”
“Call me if you end up thinking of something,” I say then grab my wristlet and phone before leaving the apartment.
“Holy shit, Jade, you look gorgeous,” CeCe grins, grabbing my hips to look me up and down.
“What this?” I shrug, pretending as if I didn’t spend 45 minutes getting ready.
“Justin is going to love you,” she wiggled her eyebrows.
“So what’s the plan exactly?” I ask.
“It’s just casual. Movie and popcorn,” CeCe says, grabbing my hand and leading me into her apartment.
Jacob and his friend, Justin, are sitting on her couch, talking when we walk up to them.
“You must be Jade,” Justin stands up, offering his hand to me.
I take it, looking to CeCe with a grin that silently says “What a gentleman.”
The four of us sit down for the movie. I honestly am convinced that CeCe let them pick a boring one just for the purpose of making out because while Justin and I suffer through the plotless film, Jacob’s tongue is down her throat.
“Hey why don’t we get some drinks?” Justin asks. “Do you have any?”
“Unfortunately, no,” CeCe frowns. “But we could go get some.” She looks to me, and I nod gently.
“Sure why not,” Jacob hops up, offering to go with her.
I press my lips together, but decide it’s fine for the two of them to go grab some drinks. It’ll give me the opportunity to get to know Justin. Hell, maybe CeCe’s boy toy’s friend will end up being my boy toy… well, not boy toy in the sense that Jacob is to Ce.
My initial thought was deemed idiotic as I stand on the porch, tears streaming down my face as the phone in my hand rings twice before the voice finally answers.
“Dr. Reid speaking,” he says into the phone, and if I wasn’t in tears I would think it was kind of cute the way he picked up.
“Hey,” I say with a timid voice.
“Jade?” Spencer asks just as I was about to tell him it was me calling.
“Yeah. Can I ask you a favor? I can’t call my dad.”
His voice is hesitant and curious when he asks, “What do you need?”
I take a deep breath, closing my eyes for a moment. “I was in a bad situation, and I need a ride home.”
“Are you hurt?” Spencer asks worriedly.
“No. I’m fine. And you really don’t have to, I just didn’t know who else to-“
“I’m coming.”
A faint, small smile creeps up onto my lips. “I’ll send you the address.”
“Thank you, Spencer,” I say gratefully, buckling my seatbelt. “Dad would’ve interrogated me and flipped shit if I told him what happened. I’m thinking maybe I should start driving myself everywhere since I’ve had to make you my uber.” I laugh softly.
“I don’t mind,” he tells me and sounds like he’s being honest. “I won’t interrogate you, but if you want to talk about what happened, you can. You look like you’ve been crying.”
Well, he sure doesn’t sugarcoat his observations. I guess I shouldn’t have expected him to. He is Spencer after all.
“You promise you won’t tell my dad?”
“As long as there was no murder involved, then yes I promise,” he says. I’m not sure if he’s joking.
“It’s nothing serious like that.” I take a breath. “I was with one of my friends and this guy she’s sort of dating. He brought a friend, so we could all hang out. We went to her place, and my friend and her boyfriend - whatever he is - went to the store to get some beer. The guy kissed me after we were talking a little, and I let him. A-and it kept going until he started touching me. I didn’t pull away because I wouldn’t have anywhere to go, and we’d just sit there awkwardly if I did. He put his hand up my dress, and I finally told him to stop. I had to say it twice. And he didn’t get angry per-say, but he seemed annoyed and said he didn’t realize I “was one of those stuck up, prissy bitches.” Word for word… anyway, I just wanted to get out of there.”
Spencer takes his eyes off the road and moves them to me for a moment. “Jade, I’m so sorry. He sounds like a real douchebag. You shouldn’t have had to go through that.”
I shrug slightly, moving my hair from my face. “It’s fine I guess. It could’ve been worse.”
“That doesn’t make it okay,” Spencer states.
“You’re right,” I say with a nod. “Things like that happen sometimes. Usually it’s just kissing when I haven’t shown any interest, and they’ll stop when I say to. I just kind of freaked out when his hand touched my lower stomach. I mean, I didn’t exactly want my first time to be with some dude I’d just met. Of course, I don’t judge people who do that. It’s just not for me. Seems awkward…” My eyes widen when I realize that not only am I rambling nervously, but I also just admitted to a guy I find extremely attractive that I’m a virgin.

The Creator is very pretty.
I was going to write about The Creator and then I forgot that I watched it, which I guess kinda explains how I felt about the movie.
The visuals were extremely impressive. And the goal to make a blockbuster style movie for 80 million was achieved. It gives me hope that mid-budget movies may make a comeback at some point.
But I don't think the ambition of the story matched the ambition of the visuals. I think maybe they focused on making it look good and forgot the story is much more important.
The movie never stayed in one place long enough to catch your breath and absorb what was happening. They do all of this beautiful world building and don't give you any time to enjoy it. It's just, "okay, off to the next beautiful location."
Spoilers ahead...
.
.
.
One of the things that bugged me was that they would go from place to place and meet new and interesting characters... and then those characters die. This movie should be called, "Let's get everyone we meet killed."
When *everyone* dies, the deaths start to have less of an impact. Not only that, you don't have a second to acknowledge and feel the deaths. It's like, "Oh no I am sad, but oh no a car chase!"
Also, I am not a big plot hole person. I don't hyperanalyze every bit of logic and assess if it makes sense or not. I like to just absorb the movie for what it is and whatever I end up feeling from the experience is what I try to hold onto. But when the plot holes start piling up and you can't just ignore them, it can distract from the experience.
This movie tried to move on from thing to thing so fast, so many things were just not explained. And it's possible that is because no explanation was thought of. But, boy, some of this needed a little exposition. Why did the androids need to be unconscious while charging? Why do they eat? Where does the food go? Do they poop? Why do people donate their likeness when we already have technology that can generate a completely new face that does not look like anyone else? I have about a thousand of these questions. A few can be hand waved or ignored. But that is just too many to flush from your brain.
And then, one of the biggest mysteries of the movie, the catalyst of the entire conflict, was revealed in an almost throw away line. And the revelation didn't really make sense. It would be like if instead of Franz Ferdinand being murdered by Black Hand assassins, he slipped in the shower and that started a global conflict. Like, if they are going to make such an inconsequential thing responsible, that could actually be interesting. But I think it deserves a little more attention than an offhand remark. And, like, if the androids had evidence of this inconsequential thing, why in the world aren't they screaming it from the rooftops?
Yeah, too many plot holes to ignore.
I am very glad a movie like this was attempted. A new story, a reasonable budget, a lot of ambitious goals. It just didn't work out. Movies are really hard to make. And good movies are nearly impossible to make. So I hope this isn't seen as a failure. This movie succeeds on many levels. I think movies like this are needed and studios should keep trying to make them work. I like sequels. I like remakes and reboots. I honestly don't mind seeing different interpretations of the same thing. As long as there are also new stories along side all of that.

What Exactly are Grimwalkers?
Tumblr media
These notes are what sparked the whole “Hunter is a Grimwalker” theory that was confirmed to be true weeks ago. At the time I think the fandom all just decided that they are pretty much magically created clones, which makes sense considering what little we knew about them is just this one image and the concept of Philip Wittebane having a brother was introduced not long afterwards (plus the “Belos being Philip” has been a theory since the concept of another human being brought to the isles was made). Combined it with Belos confirming that Hunter was made as “a better version of an old friend” it just seems like it’s the most obvious conclusion that Grimwalkers are just clones.
However, since Labyrinth Runners, I found myself questioning if that’s just all they are due to this screenshot:

Now I could have just kept assuming Grinwalkers were just clones if all the texts related to them were implied to be myths, but the “Grimwalkers Extinction” textbook caught my attention. Now, if Grimwalkers were just magically made copies of people and exist purely in the whelm of hypothetical until Belos started making his Golden Guards, why would a whole book be dedicated them as if they were an entire species? Assuming Hunter found these books at Hexside, if Belos was truly just dabbling in some ritual of creating life for hundreds of years, I wouldn’t want the local school library have anything close to informational about his little side project of making a superior version of his friend. Even if the chances of the true nature of the Golden Guards being found was small, I would think that it was too big of a risk to just overlook it.
Then I remembered the other “extinct” species in this show. The Basilisks.
Tumblr media
A once thought extinct species that was given new life by Emperor Belos. Another secret experiment that in hindsight was probably a way for him to develop his mass draining spell for the Day of Unity. Much like with Hunter and the other Golden Guards in the past, Vee and the other Basilisks were artificially brought back to existence Belos’ own needs.
So what exactly am I getting at with this tangent? Belos most likely used the revived Basilisks in order to observe their natural magic draining abilities. Perhaps, he brought by the Grimwalker species for a specfic gift that he deemed useful for his plans, even if they may not be as useful as the Basilisks (based purely on The Collector’s musing of Belos only making them just to destroy them). Maybe the old legends and other information of the dead species caught Belos’ eye, and the recipe we are shown at the beginning of Eclipse Lake is his version of making an artificial version of the species, much like how he was able to create the Basilisks. That honestly makes the most sense to me considering the depiction of a Grimwalker is clearly based on Philip’s friend, since Philip himself would be the one to develop this method of making them.
I propose that natural Grimwalkers in the past may have been a type of demon with the ability to possess the dead, or perhaps take the form of someone who has expired. I can understand why those times of demons would be killed off if they were considered as dangerous as Basilisks. Maybe the reason why the eyes of the Grimwalker were given special attention is because back in the olden days, the eyes were one of the few ways to tell if a Grimwalker took the place of a loved one.
Perhaps, Philip hundreds of years ago, stumbled onto the myths and information of the Grimwalkers and grew interested in remaking this “better version” of his traitorous friend and got to work. It’s insane to imagine that a person would go as far as to revive an extinct species out of spite and delusion, but again Belos DID bring back the Basilisk supposedly to observe their magic draining abilities. What’s stopping him from Frankensteining more long dead creatures if they suit his needs?
