Here's my playlist for the best year in music, Year 1997! Although I should probably qualify that for the good people of tumblr and instead say, the best year in music before the rise of Queen Taylor.

I had three strong candidates for the song of the year, 'Karma Police' by Radiohead, 'Novocaine For The Soul' by The Eels, but ultimately, I had to make the obvious choice and give it to 'Bittersweet Symphony' by The Verve. It's just a generational anthem, I don't know what else to say.

I've started working on the playlist of '98 and the pickings immediately look much slimmer. Also, I'm starting to notice the names of some artists that fill me with dread of how we're at the start of a long downwards slide. for example, '98 is the first time when I saw ICP appear on people's lists.

Matt Berry's casting in Fallout TV show is so perfect even if it is 'only' a voiced role. Somehow, him being cast as a Mr. Handy robot bent on harvesting the organs of Ella Purnell's character - and going about in a politely British way - makes perfect sense.

that said, 1997 might very well be the best year in music EVER. it was just one banger after another in a way that has never happened before or since. I'm stuck with a list of like 90 songs that I'm trying to trim down to a playlist of 50 and every cut I make is killing me

here's my little playlist for Year 96, a pretty good year for music if I do say so myself. and not just because the spice girls arrived to forever change pop culture as we know it. they didn't even make my playlist, which is, as you obviously know, the only thing that really matters.

anyway, I was sure that Garbage's 'Stupid Girl' would be my song of '96, and objectively it is and forever will be, but everyone already knows that Garbage is my favorite band of all time, so it's kind of a boring and obvious choice. So, I was thinking... what about Republica, though? 'Ready To Go' is just one of the great 90's tunes and totally deserving to be my song of the year <3
