Follows my family headcanon with Jimmy and Scott adopting Illumina
It's set with Jimmy, who is poor and needs money for his sister's medical bills, who finds a job as a hit man for a really big, fancy company. Reluctantly, he takes it.
He ends up having to work with Scott Major, unknown to Jimmy that he is the youngest son of the lead Man who owns the whole operation.
Scott doesn't like how his father is basically putting a bodyguard on him, and Jimmy doesn't like Scott.
Eventually, they realize they have things in common and Jimmy helps Scott through his daddy issues, kind of.
Scott's father thinks he's useless and weak and Scott just wants to impress his father, willing to do anything to get his attention.
Xornoth is their father's favorite but working in a different city. They really love their younger brother and visit him to give him the familiar love that their father would never give Scott.
Now how does Illumina play into this?

Fairy tales are full of stories about pretty young women, enchanted, entrapped, or abandoned who are discovered and rescued by a passing prince. Though some of these tales – Snow White, Rapunzel, Sleeping Beauty, to name a few – are well known, others, like ‘The Glass Coffin’ are less so. This particular story features not a prince and princess, but instead a tailor and a noble.
Once, a young apprentice to a tailor decided that he wanted to leave home. On his travels he found himself needing to pass through a great forest, and swiftly found himself lost within it. He wandered all day and, as night fell, resigned himself to sleeping there. The floor of the forest was covered in soft grass and fine moss and would have made quite a comfortable bed. But in the darkness of the trees, the young tailor feared that wolves or other hungry beasts would come upon him in his sleep and devour him whole.

Has Mario ever had a breakdown in front of Luigi do you think? They been together since the womb, Luigi has to have seen Mario breakdown often throughout their lives. He knows his big brother can’t always remain strong.
I do think Luigi has, on very rare occasions. Like only a small handful of times, and only when he somehow managed to find where Mario had been hiding, curled up all by himself in some secluded spot. 🌧
It would be second nature for Mario to try not to cry in front of others, always putting on a brave front for everyone's sake (particularly Luigi's) and never letting anyone see his pain.
But Luigi would know. He could immediately tell whenever his brother is upset, could see it in the smallest hints and mood variations. He would also know not to insist or invade his privacy, but would still find ways to offer comfort while giving him space.
Most of all, Luigi would wish that Mario didn't feel the need to act so strong and brave around him all the time, but somewhere deep down, he would understand.
As the older sibling, Mario is only trying to protect him, like he always does. ❤️💚

probably time for this story i guess but when i was a kid there was a summer that my brother was really into making smoothies and milkshakes. part of this was that we didn't have AC and couldn't afford to run fans all day so it was kind of important to get good at making Cool Down Concoctions.
we also had a patch of mint, and he had two impressionable little sisters who had the attitude of "fuck it, might as well."
at one point, for fun, this 16 year old boy with a dream in his eye and scientific fervor in heart just wanted to see how far one could push the idea of "vanilla mint smoothie". how much vanilla extract and how much mint can go into a blender before it truly is inedible.
the answer is 3 cups of vanilla extract, 1/2 cup milk alternative, and about 50 sprigs (not leaves, whole spring) of mint. add ice and the courage of a child. idk, it was summer and we were bored.
the word i would use to describe the feeling of drinking it would maybe be "violent" or perhaps, like. "triangular." my nose felt pristine. inhaling following the first sip was like trying to sculpt a new face. i was ensconced in a mesh of horror. it was something beyond taste. for years after, i assumed those commercials that said "this is how it feels to chew five gum" were referencing the exact experience of this singular viscous smoothie.
what's worse is that we knew our mother would hate that we wasted so much vanilla extract. so we had to make it worth it. we had to actually finish the drink. it wasn't "wasting" it if we actually drank it, right? we huddled around outside in the blistering sun, gagging and passing around a single green potion, shivering with disgust. each sip was transcendent, but in a sort of non-euclidean way. i think this is where i lost my binary gender. it eroded certain parts of me in an acidic gut ecology collapse.
here's the thing about love and trust: the next day my brother made a different shake, and i drank it without complaint. it's been like 15 years. he's now a genuinely skilled cook. sometimes one of the three of us will fuck up in the kitchen or find something horrible or make a terrible smoothie mistake and then we pass it to each other, single potion bottle, and we say try it it's delicious. it always smells disgusting. and then, cerimonious, we drink it together. because that's what family does.

going through my old journals as part of therapy homework and i'm reading a section written in the emotional wreckage of a full-on breakdown when i get hit with this line:

#like you were on the ground biting the carpet and dry sobbing while you wrote that and still. good fucking point#not a shitpost#cptsd#and it's true. there's never a satisfying answer#the truth is i know why i wasn't loved#i analyzed my parent's traumas and abuse to death. i understand why i alienated and was alienated from my siblings#i know why my mom was too overwhelmed to be capable of nurturing#i know why my dad vanished into addiction and avoidance#the details of our cycles of trauma and cptsd and family history i have a phd in all of it#i understood perfectly. i spent years studying and now i knew the answer#and guess what? IT WAS NOT SATISFYING!!!#because they still didn't love me! and i still couldn't change that!#it was still a completely unsatisfying state of affairs!#so like. when the people who are supposed to love you...don't.#when the people who are supposed to take care of you...fail to#you can look for answers and reasons and explanations#but that's not actually going to FIX your situation.#and it's probably not within your ability TO fix the situation. (and definitely not your job)#because you don't need answers--you need a new situation#*inserts Just Walk Out. You Can Leave!!!
