the second i saw the temple mural in rebels i knew i had to do this
[Image ID: A mural-style drawing of Anakin, Obi-Wan and Ahsoka styled after the mural of the Mortis gods seen in Rebels. Ahsoka is on the right in her white robe and carrying her scepter, a morai perched on her shoulder. Obi wan is in the middle in his Jedi robes, one hand raised. The Jedi Order symbol is behind his head. Anakin stands on the right, with one half of his face obscured by his Darth Vader mask. His hand is clenched into a fist.]
Version without noise (along with me ranting about couple details I'm way too proud of) under the cut:
Tumblr media
The beams of light are emanating from the Jedi Order symbol for Obi-Wan, but for Anakin and Ahsoka they are centred on Obi-Wan's heart
The beams emanating from Obi-Wan all reach the edge of the canvas, but for Anakin and Ahsoka some are incomplete
The colours circling their hands are indicative of their lightsaber colours
The light circling Anakin's hand is tinged blue in Obi-Wan's direction
The light circling Ahsoka's hand is primarily white, but tinged in green, and tinged blue in Anakin's direction

I saw your tags on your Luke Skywalker post and you’re 100% right that he made the right choice in TBOBF!! I was totally astounded by how many people were angry at him in this show and believe it ‘ruined his character’. And for what? Letting Grogu choose his own fate? He was probably the only person in the entire Mando series to give him the ability to have a say in his own life. Ugh, I swear these people just don’t even like Luke’s character. Sorry for dumping this vent on you, I just saw your post and I’m glad someone else agrees with me <3
Thank you!! More stuff to fanatically rant about cause I have THOUGHTS. This and what he did to Kylo are stuff I’m biting at the bit to defend.
Now, ok, I can agree the execution of it was not the best. They cut corners because they used too much money in his face rather than giving us a new actor so we could have more screen time. Had they given Luke more screen time for that final scene to be longer it would’ve been better. Disney is still not treating Luke right by any means and I just wanna grab him and wrap him up in a blanket and publish my own book on him.
That being said…
Luke was in the right. No, he wasn’t saying Grogu shouldn’t love his father. Again (and again and again) attachment is NOT relationships of any kind. It’s NOT love. How people still feel like that’s what Luke and the Jedi meant boggles my mind. Attachment is possessiveness and the lie of love. It’s a poison. Grogu had some of that and it was shown in season 1 when he tried to choke Cara out. He’s a toddler with power that can corrupt if not carefully guided.
Luke asked Grogu to unlock his memories and Grogu consented. Luke asked Grogu to choose the Jedi life now (and with his age may not ever see his father again; cause Din himself wasn’t coming back thanks to AHSOKA not Luke—funny how only he’s blamed when he clearly gave Din coordinates) or go back to his father now able to defend himself and Grogu thought about the choice and accepted what it could mean thanks to Luke’s guidance.
Honestly, with Luke’s affinity for love and his past with his father, I could’ve seen him urge Grogu to go back to Din (and maybe he did we just didn’t get to see it, friggen Disney) if not for the fact Grogu needs to learn to make hard decisions. He knows he has Luke and knows he has Din no matter what but he needs to learn to face the anxiety and consequences in the galaxy he’s living in.
You are 100% in how much freedom and respect Luke gives Grogu (is it maybe too much for what is about a toddler+? Maybe! Positives can turn to negatives in teaching and parenting and no one is perfect—-including Din) and is the one who really gives him back his inner strength and confidence.
Luke had Grogu for what? Two or three years? (SW really needs to work on providing us clear time jumps)The two were close. They clearly cared for each other. Luke let Grogu go after the choice was made. Grogu learned from that. He saw Luke be selfless and let him decide his path, even if it may keep them apart but there is the hope they will find each other again (IT SHOULD! God I want coparenting Dinluke). Luke is not turning his back to Grogu. Grogu can reach out and/or return at any time and Luke will answer.
So yes, Luke was right.

My Thoughts on Episode 3
...I'm gonna be honest, I do not have high hopes for this episode from how many of the people I follow have been going on angry rants about it.
Here we go, I guess.
----------
Well, at least now there's one acknowledgement that Sabine is Mandalorian.
----------
"Learning to wield the Force takes a deeper commitment."
...I swear to god, I really hope they're taking the "Sabine's just a little Force sensitive" route, because is Felony is actually trying to imply that anyone could be Force-sensitive if they just "tried harder" then I'm going to fucking scream.
If anyone can be Force sensitive, why hasn't everyone tried? What was the point of Order 66 and why were the survivors of it so important? Why the fuck didn't some random person just turn into a Jedi and take out the Emperor, why did they have to wait for Luke?
It just...it ruins literally the entire franchise and makes everything pointless and meaningless, if that's what Felony is actually saying here.
----------
I've never been more bored in my life than watching this sequence.
----------
*long sigh at calling Sabine a Jedi*
----------
Y'know, this would've been a perfect time for Jacen to just say- "I want to be a Jedi, like dad!"
Like, are we just supposed to forget that Kanan existed at all??? Not even a name drop???
----------
"I can't use the Force, I can't feel it...not like you do."
Great, that's just great.
So Felony's going the- "just try harder and anyone can be a Jedi!" -method, that's...just...
*UNHINGED ANGRY SCREAMING*
"The Force resides in all living things. Even you."
Yes, Ahsoka, because it's the literal life-blood of everything, but that doesn't fucking mean that anyone can use it. That's why there's a section of the population called Force-sensitives, because they're sensitive to the Force and can therefore use it.
If everyone had that capability, then that classification is useless and also---again---this calls the entire fucking Star Wars franchise into question and makes the entire thing meaningless!
"If that's true then why doesn't everyone use it?" "Talent is a factor."
No, sensitivity to it is a factor.
God, I'm not even 15 minutes in and I'm already so fucking pissed.
----------
"The Jedi Order would not have accepted her, she is not an acceptable candidate." "By their standards."
Yes, Ahsoka, by their very strict standards that are-
YOU HAVE TO BE FUCKING FORCE-SENSITIVE, FOR FUCKS SAKE!!!
"Standards that were proven over a millennium." "And failed."
No, they didn't fail---the Jedi Order was very successful and helped spread good all across the galaxy until your shit asshole master fucking massacred them and then spent the rest of his shitty miserable life desecrating their culture.
I legit fucking hate Ahsoka now.
Like, I really do.
TCW was the only show that actually made me like her, and honestly I can't fucking stand her now.
----------
So Sabine and Ahsoka are bashing on Huyang for...following protocol so they aren't noticed by their enemies and/or other hostiles?
Seriously?
Do they want to get caught or give Morgan time to escape, if they're found out?
...
Fuck it, I'm rooting for the villains to win for once---I hope they kick Ahsoka and Sabine's asses, kill or capture them, and leave Huyang to go help Luke rebuild the Order.
Huyang deserves to be appreciated and he should be somewhere where he, and his knowledge of the Jedi, is---not with a couple of jackasses who'll harp on him for even the smallest thing, even if it helps them.
----------
PURRGILS!!! MY BABIES!!!
----------
Oh, so now they'll follow "standard Jedi protocol" when it's convenient for them? After just bashing Huyang for it? And bashing him for it the whole show?
Wow.
I don't think I've ever wanted to fucking deck a character this bad since Anakin---it's kind of ironic that it's Anakin's padawan that's making me feel this way, though.
Huyang deserves better.

The three were blindfolded, as they were escorted to a new place.
"Ani, Snips." Lovisa spoke, hurriedly. "Thank you, for being the first friend's I've ever had, and caring about me more than who I am to the Kingdom, but for me, you have no Idea what it means to me, and I... I love you, both, I'm so sorry you're in this, because of me-"
"It's not because of you" Ahsoka cut her off, with a snappy tone. "Don't do that to yourself."
"We're not going to die, M'lady, we'll figure it out, I know it, don't embarrass yourself by admitting your inner thoughts, too soon." Anakin told her, a slight teasing in his tone
"It does not matter to me even if you both are paid to be in my presence, you have treated me with so much kindness and humility, than anyone ever has."
"Lovisa, stop it, I can not have my last moments with you being... sentimental, don't ruin my image of you."
"We're not going to die" Anakin repeated.
"Shut it!" A guard told them, as he took off their blindfolds, and they were dragged along, by their chains, into what looked like an large arena, stands full of people shouted and jeered, chucking things down, as they walked below them.
Four pillars stood, in the middle, and that's when they spotted someone chained to the first one.
"Obi-Wan?" Anakin asked.
"Anakin? What on earth are you doing here? And the Princess, Anakin!"
"I was protecting her, Master!" He defended, as they were also chained to the pillars.
Lovisa quickly ran her fingers through her hair, grabbing a clip, from her thick curls, just as the guard walked over to chain her, between her two friends.
"Good job." The man nodded, with sarcasm.
"Death to the royals!" The crowd had started to chant, upon noticing Princess Lovisa, in attendance.
"Ignore them, Lovey." Ahsoka told the girl, who looked around, a worried look on her face.
"Who- Is that the handmaiden?" Obi-Wan stretched to peer at the last pillar. "Anakin, you had strict instructions!"
"This isn't the time, right now!" The boy cut off the man.
"Ladies and Gentleman!" They looked up, where a group of people were stood, Count Dooku, General Grievous, the man who had captured them, a boy by his side, and Jabba the Hut, a large round man, who referred to himself as king, among the people of his small occupation, though, he was no such thing. "We have a somewhat special guest for you, tonight, though, not as special as her sister. The spare, Princess Lovisa Amidala, of Naboo!" Jabba the hut, introduced, as a bright light shone down on her, almost blinding the girl.
"Cunt!" Voices roared.
"Traitor"
"Kill her!"
"Bitch!"
"Down with the Royals!"
The people were angry, as their voices carried, some were hoarse, as they strained their vocal boxes.
They continued to throw things, at her, as she attempted to shield her face, with her arms.
"...Let the show begin!" Jabba bellowed, after allowing the crowd to finish their threats, a wide smirk plastered to his gruesome face.
A large bell was rang, announcing the beginning of their end.
"I've got a bad feeling about this." Anakin commented.
Without waiting to see what was at stake for her, Lovisa got to work on needling the clip into the lock of the chains, breaking it from the inside, a skill she had mentally thanked Padme, for teaching her, many times.
"Oh my god!" She heard Ahsoka gasp, beside her.
Lovisa spared a look, over her shoulder, as she wiggled her hands free.
An gate was being raised, as a mass variety of all sorts of animals walked out, letting out a range of different sounds, causing goosebumps to raise along her skin.
She got to work of undoing Ahsoka's chains, as she could hear Anakin and Obi-Wan conversing their own escape.
"Up, go up!" Lovisa rushed, as she marched back to her own podium, using the chains to hoist herself up, so that she could stand on top of it, and far out of the way of the beasts, that looked hungry.
Ahsoka copied the girl, as she also got to the top of her own.
"Just relax, concentrate." Obi-Wan told his Padawan.
"But, what about the girls?" He asked, looking at his master.
"They seem to be on top of things." Obi-Wan shrugged, looking at the two, as they stood, assessing the arena.
"What?" Anakin looked over, to be amazed at the sight, how had they done that?
An large animal, with horns along its nose, charged at Obi-Wan, and he used this to his advantage, dodging out of the way, allowing it to pierce his chains, setting him free from his pillar.
Another went for Anakin, and using the force, as well as his own chains, he hoisted himself up, jumping into the air, and flipping onto it's back, breaking the connection of the metal, to the pillar.
An white catlike animal had claimed Lovisa, as it attempted to climb the pillar to get to her, but she used her chain, as a whip, to beat it down, seeming to anger it more.
That's when it jumped once more, just managing to claw her back, leaving deep scratches, as she wailed in pain.
Ahsoka watched, as Anakin was dragged off of his ride, being pulled along in the sand and dust, as the animals began fighting each other.
She waved her own chains down, grabbing the attention of two of the animals, as they both hurtled towards it, and just in time, she yanked them up, letting them collide into each other, dragging the animal that was attacking Lovisa, into their fight, taking the focus off of her.
Anakin, somehow, had managed to tame his, being able to hop back onto it, using his chain as a lasso, before turning It into a harness, for his beast, as Obi-Wan, continued to taunt his own, even managing to get it to knock down his pillar, as he claimed an long electric shocker, from one of the guards, who had been leering the animals over towards their captees.
Lovisa stood tall, as Anakin rode his beast towards her pillar, halting to just below it.
"Jump!" He shouted.
She braced herself, before doing just that, landing behind him, her arms instantly wrapping around his waist, as she kissed his cheek.
"What about me?!" Ahsoka called.
"Hurry up, Snips!" Anakin called to her, moving closer.
Ahsoka took a deep breath in, before throwing herself down, and landing behind Lovisa.
Obi-Wan had managed to get on top of his own beast, as he rode it over towards them.
"What now?" Lovisa asked.
A group of large looking scorpions, rolled from the gates, circling the two beasts.
"You just had to ask." Ahsoka breathed out.
They watched, as Jedi swarmed the arena, unsheathing their swords, and that's when they spotted Master Windu, speaking with Count Dooku.
Guards ran into the new battlefield just as the Jedi had, battling each other, as Anakin and Obi-Wan avoided the crossfire, on their beasts.
"Here, found these, thought you may need them." A Jedi shouted, as they tossed swords at the two, who were quick to grab them, cutting all the existing chains, and joining the battle.
"Gimme that!" Ahsoka demanded, shoving a guard, and taking their sword, she was glad that Colo had took pleasure in teaching the handmaiden tricks and defensive moves, as they waited for their dear princess to finish her lessons for the day, something that she had been unaware of.
Lovisa crawled along the floor, keeping low, as she avoided the many people, rubble, animals, and gunfire.
She found a lone gun, jumping up and shooting at anything that didn't resemble a Jedi.
As they continued to fight, Lovisa and Anakin had found themselves pushed together, assessing the battlefield.
"You don't seem so helpless." He commented.
"I always said I could protect myself." She raised a brow at him, shooting down a guard.
The corner of his mouth raised, as he watched her, before forcing himself back into defence mode.
"Wait- Is that?" Lovisa gasped, and they looked over, to see all three puppies were among the fighting, the three of them were chewing at the trouser leg of one of the guards, knocking him down, as they continued to attack him.
"Artoo!" Anakin called, excitedly.
The Jedi, as well as the Princess and the Handmaiden, were forced into a circle, as the guards kept coming, surrounding them.
But then, they had come to a stand still, dropping their weapons, as they stared at the Jedi, waiting on orders.
The Jedi had also lowered their swords, as they looked around.
"Master Windu." Count Dooku called down. "You have fought gallantly... worthy of recognition in the archives of the Jedi Order. Now. It is finished. Surrender and your lives will be spared."
"We will not be hostages to be bartered, Dooku!" Master Windu refused.
"Then, I'm sorry, Old friend." Count Dooku nodded, and the guards had raised their weapons, once more.
Anakin twirled the sword in his hand, as he prepared to resume the fighting.
"Look!" Lovisa shouted, noticing what others hadn't.
Hundreds of soldiers, being led by Master Yoda, marched into the arena, as they shot down the guards, surrounding the Jedi, spurring them on, to join the fight.
One, on top of a horse, rode over to Anakin and Lovisa, blocking them both from the battle.
"I have strict orders to get the princess out and far away from here." He said, to Anakin.
"Go." Anakin told her, as he grabbed her waist, to lift her up on top of the horse.
"No! I will stay and help!" She demanded.
"You will not, you will get on this horse, and let..."
"Rex, sir." The man introduced himself.
"And let Rex take you to safety, understood?"
"Anakin!"
"Don't argue with me." He told her, as he put her on top of the horse. "Rex, do not let any harm come to the princess."
"I won't sir, I'll bet my life on it."
"Good, get her out of here!" He smacked the back of the horse, making it cry out, before galloping away.
"Where are you taking me?!" Lovisa yelled.
"Base, your highness, they'll meet us back there."
Lovisa looked behind her, watching Anakin fight against the guards, it was almost like a dance, how graceful and persistent he was, her heart swelled at the sight, as he got smaller, and smaller.

Re; Ahsoka and Quinlan being the same age, now I'm picturing Ahsoka, Quinlan, and Rex eventually ending up in a weird sorta thruple where Quinlan comes in and out of the relationship but the door is kinda always open for him? And Rex spends a lot of mornings eyeing the tangle of orange and brown skin on the other side of the bed like he has no idea how he ended up here but he's (mostly) okay with that tbh
Context: Commander Buir in chronological order
YES okay so this is wild to me that people are invested in this but like half the time-travel fics with Ahsoka in the same age-group as Quinlan have me wondering if I should ship them. Let me just. Ho shit.
So, okay, I've explored a lot of possible dynamics but there's something really engaging about how Quinlan, trained as a Shadow before the Sith came back, could react to a War Padawan. Ahsoka isn't really infiltration material yet, she's very much a frontline fighter, but she's got a lot more experience with a kind of consistent dark atmosphere that most Jedi don't. They get exposed to plenty of dark stuff, sure, but not the kind of all-encompassing "this is my life for the last two years" thing that is usually reserved for the long-term field agents like Shadows and Watchmen.
The War Padawans, for all that they were supposed to be just normal Jedi Padawans, were living in the kind of consistently negative environment that's normally experienced by those Knighted Sentinels.
So Ahsoka, while still generally pretty young in these AUs, is a very odd kind of person to be around, because she's spunky and vivacious and snippy and affectionate and snarky and knows how to break every bone in your body from harrowing experience as the only thing standing between death and thousands of brothers.
And Quinlan, I imagine, really likes that about her. She gets it, and she's still an energetic and loving and trying to do her best to be a good person despite everything. He gravitates towards her and she... well, she's not blind. She can tell he's interested. And she's not upset about that.
ANYWAY, ONTO REX
So, Rex is... technically twelve. He hasn't exactly got a whole lot of experience with romance. He is also, up until the point of time-travel, legal property of the Senate and the Jedi Order, which means that Ahsoka, or at least her community, owns him. He was indoctrinated to serve her and that community. She also outranks him, for all that she usually lets him take the lead in the field due to experience. He's older than her physically and maturity-wise, but she's also had a grow-up-faster-than-you-should adolescence, and she has superpowers.
What I'm saying is, the power dynamic is fucked up.
(Unironically I spent hours last night realizing that it balances out a lot more than C*dywan does, which I'm censoring because by god do I not want discourse on this post. I like both ships, and don't want to argue about what's the most problematic. It's Star Wars. The only unproblematic ships are Bail/Breha and Owen/Beru.)
Here's the thing, though, because the main thing people seem to argue here is the age/maturity difference as a problem area:
The age difference in actual time is four years, which is smaller than the two main ships of the franchise (Han/Leia and Padme/Anakin, to be clear). The age difference in maturity is ??? We'll say that the clones started aging normally after they hit twenty, so the age difference in maturity is six years... which is still normal for SW ships.
(This is why I don't have any issues with the ship in a post-O66 context, once they've had a few years to move past the traumas and whatnot. The age stuff all evens out with time, they're a good team, and neither was grooming the other. It's not objectively any more problematic than most SW ships at that point, and I'm okay with that. They deserve to be happy if they want.)
But they get yanked away from all that structure of who owns what, who reports where, who has which rank, who's legally a person in the eyes of the Republic when they end up on Dagobah. Once they've registered when they are, the only remaining complications are:
He grew up in a cultlike environment and was indoctrinated to serve her (but has been replacing that indoctrination with genuine respect and affection for her as a person because they've worked together for two years).
She has superpowers (contextually not a big problem: we see several Force-Sensitive/Non-Sensitive ships that don't consider those powers a complicating element)
He's several years younger than her (canonically less of an issue than it could be: Cut got married and has kids) and has next to no experience with what a normal romance looks like except for hanging out on the edges of whatever the fuck his General has going on with the Senator
She's several years less mature than he is (...something of an issue)
So a lot of this is mostly okay. She feels weird about the fact that she's got more knowledge of romance and all that it entails. He feels weird about the fact that, despite her being older, he looks at her and sees someone that's still a little young, not quite a shiny. Except she is older than him, and he's seen her behead four people in a single move, and they've saved each other's lives more times than either of them can count anymore. He respects her, and the fact that she's babyfaced doesn't change the fact that, in terms of who they are as people and warriors, they're on a level playing field.
She still looks at him and mourns his lost childhood, and he still looks at her and takes a moment to see past the too-big eyes and adolescent proportions.
But they really, really care about each other, and maybe part of them is starting to recognize that there's a bit of a crush before they time-travel, but neither one wants to make a move. There's a lot of baggage on both sides, a lot of "but they're a child" and "but they're (literally vs functionally) below me in the chain of command, I can't take advantage of that" and all that fun stuff. It's the kind of situation where two people circle each other for ages without making a move, because actually making that move is terrifying on account of not knowing whether the other party knows they can say no, on top of the usual "what if it ruins our friendship?" thing.
What happens on Dagobah, though... is very tropey. They're sort of stranded until Ahsoka can fix the ship, and that takes time. The area is also very heavy with the Force, dense and heady with the energy it carries, and it's... actually really not great for Ahsoka. She keeps feeling like she's back on Mortis, and has nightmares from the trigger there, but also keeps hallucinating because she wasn't ready for the thickness of the energy (like Yoda) or still new enough to the Force that she couldn't feel how dense it all was (like Luke). She can't work on the engines as constantly as she'd like to get them out of there, and while Rex is a competent mechanic, he's not as skilled with it as the girl who jumped headfirst into lessons with Anakin.
Rex spends a lot of time holding Ahsoka and wiping her brow with a wet cloth while she's feverish and out of it. Yes we're going full Florence Nightingale romance here, let me have my fun.
They get the communications relay working earlier than the engine, find out the year is wrong, panic a bit. All is well. (It's not, but they're holding it together for now.)
Ahsoka keeps working on the engine when she's lucid. Rex keeps hunting up game and edible plants for them while she does. They cuddle at night, because it's not cold but it is empty of the people they care about, and they kind of want that reassurance of someone they trust and love at their back.
(Morai visits.)
(Daughter shows up in the nightmares, tells Ahsoka that age will not come for her beloved until the time is natural for it. The phrasing is dumb but she does manage to convey that the accelerated aging is no longer an issue, if it even was after they hit adulthood. Ahsoka is relieved.)
And, you know, emotions happen. She takes his hand while they're leaning up against each other. He kisses her forehead while she's having a bad spell. They cook together and tell jokes to keep sane and spar. They hug each other through nightmares and panic attacks. There is much blushing. There is much cuddling.
Once, they kiss.
They break apart, flushing and stammering and being very awkward about the whole thing, and make excuses to leave and panic about the fact that they!! Kissed!!!!!
A couple hours later they find each other again, and have a long and complicated discussion about why they like each other (war makes bedfellows, there's trust and affection and all that fun stuff) and why they're hesitant (age stuff, maturity stuff, prior indoctrination), and make the decision to take it slow. They cuddle, and kiss, and blush a lot because both of them are basically just dumb teens having their first real relationship.
They eventually leave the planet, make it to Coruscant, etc. It takes a bit for anyone except Obi-Wan to realize that something's changed between them. Most people didn't know them before, and Anakin's observation skills are currently at a very low ebb. But they sit together and hold hands, and flirt when they spar, and once or twice people find them kissing (both standard and Keldabe) in a corner while holding hands and then just smiling at each other like loons.
They end up rooming together because nobody has the heart to separate them after hearing about all the war stuff. Like yes attachment's bad, but these two do seem to understand loss of loved ones and recognize that they could lose each other at any time and death is natural and they won't lose their entire shit about it, and if even General Kenobi is anxious as hell about being separated from the people he fought side-by-side with for two years, then maybe it's just... really normal for those two to want each other's company, and everyone can just turn a blind eye to the romance happening.
They share a bed, but they only ever sleep in it. Like, there's some goodnight kisses and cuddles, but everything is very G-rated until they've had time to settle into being true equals instead of just the "well, I guess the power dynamics balance out? Maybe?" of before.
And just... yeah. Rex does not believe that he's in this good of a position whenever he has the time to think about it. He's got a girlfriend! A really pretty, smart, strong, skilled one! Who thinks he's a cool dude! How the fuck did a clone like him manage that? He wasn't even legally a person a year ago, how did he end up in bed with one of the most amazing people he's ever met? He spends multiple nights just staring at her while he tries to fall asleep, asking himself how he got here and just like... marveling at her. She's worth marveling at. He's in love and she's amazing and he has no idea how to handle it at all.
...yeah no I have a lot of feelings now.

Why do people seem to hate Dave Filoni all of a sudden? I mean I'll confess I don't really like the way some characters were changed in the The Clone Wars series, but Filoni and Lucas did do a LOT of things right in that series. Its actually really deep and explores some very important moral and social issues like the impact of war especially on young people. Is it because Filoni has been critical of the Jedi at times? Honestly, I don't see anything inflamatory in what he says, and I don't think he's just randomly pulling stuff out of the air. Some of what he says is supported in old canon materials. The Jedi aren't perfect, I fail to see why legitimate criticism is such a big deal.
Before anything else, this ask was sent before the bad batch premiered so I won’t get into *that* right now.
That being said, this fandom has had a very interesting love-hate relationship with Filoni, so allow me to provide some context before we get into the heart of the issue.
Before The Clone Wars (2008) premiered the anti-prequel movement was still strong. A lot of people still accused George Lucas for ‘ruining’ star wars forever, so when the show premiered filled with action scenes, jedi, sith, badass moments and humor, Filoni was hailed as the savior of the franchise. Finally someone who understood what star wars was *really* about had come and saved us all from the prequels boring issues.
That mentality last for quite some time. sure, there were voices of dissent but the general vibe was that Filoni had truly fixed star wars and the prequels. It was very similar from what happened to Game of Thrones. When the show premiered HBO and D&D were hailed as these god-like superwriters who could do no wrong. As the show progressed fans started noticing the cracks but most people still believed the show and its creators above criticism. only now that some time has passed that people are becoming more objective about the content and realizing the signs that something was off were always there. Of course, Filoni didn’t have a fiasco similar to Got’s Season 7 and 8 but the long waiting period between TCW’s season 6 and 7 gave people a lot of time to think objectively about the show, which made them realizing Filoni was, after all, just a man. And TCW was not an ‘alternative’ to the prequels, it was just an extension of it.
The themes people hated in the prequels were deeply imbued into the clone wars because a show about war must be, by definition, a show about politics. Whether people are ready to admit it or not, star wars was always about politics. I mean, the OT was about reestablishing a democratic government. It doesn’t get more political than that lol
And we can speak of PT-politics without talking of the Jedi Order. And here lies the core of the issue: people’s sudden realization of this truth. Somehow, for a very long time, some fans didn’t realize the clone wars  (and sw in general) was all about poltical (anti-war) allegories.
Here’s a Filoni interview from 2013 that discusses the fandom reaction to the jedi:
StarWars.com: I was at the Lucasfilm fan screening of the finale, and I was keeping an ear on the crowd’s reaction to certain scenes. I was kind of surprised at the reaction when Ahsoka doesn’t take her Padawan braid back. Dave Filoni: Right. StarWars.com: Because people gasped at first, and then a lot of people started cheering. Dave Filoni: Yeah! Fantastic, huh? StarWars.com: What did you make of that? Dave Filoni: I was really, really surprised by that. Really surprised. I didn’t think people would be against it. But I certainly didn’t think that people would applaud it, necessarily. I think that there’s a certain element there… I mean, we weren’t trying to paint the Jedi in a bad light, but certainly you understand her reasons for wanting to leave. We’ve kind of taken a generation of Star Wars fans and really made them reassess that whole time period to the point where at the end of it, they’re on the side of this young girl who’s like, “Yeah, this isn’t gonna work for me.” And I think people feel that right now. They are often in a situation that they’d rather not be in and they wish they could just walk away, and maybe she embodies that. Maybe there’s something going on there that we’re not aware of. But I don’t know, I was pretty fascinated by that. It was a pretty surprising reaction. George and I went over those final scenes quite a bit. One of the big things was, the whole scene with the Council at the end used to take place outside where Anakin and Ahsoka talk. And it was definitely George, when we watched the first cut of it, who said, “I want to split this so that it’s half-inside, half-outside. And the outside is just Anakin and Ahsoka.” It was very important to him to separate the two of them out and just have this conversation between them. He wanted kids to know that she didn’t blame Anakin for it and that she wasn’t upset with Anakin. And I thought it was a great call. When I re-shot the scene it was pretty phenomenal. There was a debate about Ahsoka at the end, and her just going back to the Jedi at the end of it, and that was the initial impulse. But I kind of argued, “Well, wait. We have an opportunity here with her out to change her story dramatically.” And I’m always looking for those opportunities, because you’re not sure when they’re gonna come, to just grab something and change it dramatically for her. I thought, to do that whole storyline and then have her come back would almost be expected, so why not challenge that.[x]
Unlike what the narrative sold on tumblr says, Filoni and George talked about what was going on in the show (he was reason for Maul and Mandalore, two fan favorites, being on the show). But because accepting Filoni knew what he was doing means accepting George also knew what he was doing when drawing political and social parallels between real life and star wars, it’s much easier to just hate on Filoni and/or George (depending on what they are saying).
It’s kind of like selective hate. When Anakin is being abusive or when Padmé is being assaulted Filoni is a fucking mastermind. But when he’s criticizing the Jedi Order he’s a dumbass who doesn’t know shit about star wars. Or at least don’t know as much as people who have never talked to George Lucas, talked to anyone linked to star wars or has explored the full contents of the star wars lore know.
Look, I’m not defending Filoni here. He’s made plenty of decisions I don’t agree with it, but I find quite surprising how people can’t be rational about it. or, at the very least, be critical of the things that truly matter and have an affect on people in real life like racism, sexism and abuse. Idk, I just find interesting how the fans hating on him for being slightly ‘critical’ of the jedi Order seem to have no problem with the racism, whitewashing and sexism in the show. It really shows what people’s priorities are.

Across The Stars In A Galaxy Far Far Away ★ Star Wars & Marvel Crossover AU
ONE.
Tumblr media
Tony didn’t know what else to expect when Peter called him at two in the morning. He wasn’t even asleep, just drinking coffee in his workshop and fiddling with a new project. Usually when Peter texted him it was about literally the smallest thing. And most the time, Tony didn’t mind it, he found it endearing that the kid wanted to update him on if he passed a test or not and the latest gossip going around school was.
But this time, it was a call, which was deviated from the usual. Calls were important, and Tony wasn’t prepared to talk about anything important. Was Peter going to talk about dating with him? Did he like someone at school? Did he have questions about the birds and the bees?
No. The answers to all of that was no.
Not even fucking close.
Peter was talking so fast that Tony thought the kid accidentally took some drugs and was hallucinating, but when the kid finally slowed down, that’s when Tony heard it.
“I think a space ship just crashed into Central Park, Mr. Stark!”
Tony spat out his coffee all over the steel table. “What?”
“I think a space ship just crashed-”
“Nope, I heard you kiddo,” Tony rubbed his temple feeling a migraine begin. “Promise me you didn’t take anything, nothing that looked like candy off the ground?”
“What? Why would I even... Oh my god, I think aliens are inside the ship!” there was some shuffling and Tony could only assume Peter was running to hide. “I hear something, yelling... clanking...”
Tony felt his face pale as he stepped away from the coffee ruined table and he held the phone closer to his ear. “Peter, whatever you do, don’t approach them. Wait till we get there.”
“”We”?”
“Yes we. Now stay put.”
“Wait! Don’t hang up!” Peter exclaimed as the voice call turned into a video one, “I think they’re trying to get out of their ship! Look!”
Peter turned the camera in his phone around to reveal what he was seeing to Tony.
━━━━━━━━━━━━
Anakin helped Obi-Wan down the ramp with one arm loosely around his friend’s torso to keep him upright. “Well, at least we’re all in one piece.” He said as he sat Obi-Wan down next to Ahsoka who was being tended to by Padmé.
Padmé rolled her eyes as she applied a bacta patch on Ahsoka’s bruised back. “No doubt it’s thanks to your flying, Ani,” she sharply replied.
“Where are we anyway?” Ahsoka asked, carefully rolling her shoulders despite the aching pain.
“We’re too far away for our coms to get a signal out.” Rex said as he continued to tap at his com. “I can try again with the communication systems on board, but they looked fried beyond compare, sir.”
“Wouldn’t hurt to try again,” Anakin nodded his head at the Clone Captain before he turned around and went back onto the ship.
Obi-Wan patted Anakin’s arm before reaching up to run a hand through his auburn hair. “I didn’t recognize the star system before we crashed,”
“Artoo?” Anakin called out for his trusty astromech droid. In an instant, R2-D2 rolled down the ramp, beeping and chirping. “Can you get a read of the terrain and figure out what we’re dealing with?”
The Jedi Knight looked around at his surroundings, seeing that there were trees, grass and what seemed to be a water fountain nearby. Benches were scattered about and there was a cobble stone wall way a few feet away. If anything, the area they were in didn’t seem hostile at all.
“Will do,” he beeped as a part of his dome shed while his life-form scanned extended from the top. It turned and started to scan the surrounding area while the droids companions were given bacta patches from Padmé.
“I’m picking up someone in the tree over there!” warbled the droid as he moved side-to-side nervously and extended his utility arm to gesture to the tree he was talking about.
Anakin reached out into the Force, feeling that there was a Force-sensitive being in the tree. Then, with a raised arm, Anakin used the Force to apprehend the being and remove them from their hiding place. From what he could see, it was a small form, lean and of average height wearing some sort of blue and red suit with strange shaped eyes.
Peter Parker yelped as he was yanked out of the tree and dropped his phone on the ground, Mr. Stark’s voice fading away. Now he was just levitating in the air before the aliens he was stalking. “Oh my god, please don’t kill me!”
Padmé Amidala’s eyes widened as she heard the voice and jumped up from her spot next to Obi-Wan and tugged on Anakin’s arm, “Ani, he’s just a kid, put him down!”
“Oh,” Anakin deflated as he felt his face heat up. He carefully lowered the boy to the ground and sent him a sheepish grin. “Sorry ‘bout that,”
The teenage boy wanted to scream, he was so confused. “Uh... that’s okay, um, thanks for putting me down-”
Then a beautiful woman dressed in a maroon vest paired with tan pants and long-sleeve stepped forward. “Are you okay?” Even if Peter was absolutely baffled with what was going on and was on a verge of an anxiety attack, the soothing presence of this woman calmed him down a bit.
Peter made a small uncertain noise, “I don’t really... know,” he let out an awkward laugh before pulling off his mask, causing Padmé, Anakin, and Obi-Wan to see how young this boy was. Ahsoka was glad to see someone who looked around the same age as her. “I mean, how would you react if you saw a UFO crash in the middle of Central Park?”
Before anyone could answer that, (especially Anakin who wanted to say that he wasn’t an alien here and if anyone was an alien it would be Ahsoka), a voice was screaming from the ground.
“Peter? PETER?!”
“Shit,” Peter mumbled under his breath and then crouched down to pick up his phone that he dropped earlier. “Mr. Stark-!”
“Fucking HELL, kid! You can’t do that to me!” Tony Stark’s panic ridden face filled his screen, and from what Peter could see, he was wearing his Iron Man suit. “Where are the aliens? Whatever, we’re on our way.”
Peter raised a brow as another flare of confusion coursed through him. “Mr. Stark, I don’t really think that’s necessary-”
“Stay where you are. That’s an order!” Tony briskly ended the call.
Peter stared blankly at his phone with his mouth agape.
Rex then descended from the ship’s ramp and walked over to the group with his helmet in his hands. “Sir,” he said, briefly sparing a look at the boy they picked up.
“Yes, Rex?” Obi-Wan slowly rose from his spot on the rock and ignored the shoot of pain from his ribs. Anakin also turned his attention to his second-in-command, but could sense something was up and that it probably had to do with what he found.
“Um...” The Clone Captain looked torn, expressing this through standing up straighter and nervously gripping on his helmet. “There’s no record of this galaxy in our records.”
Anakin’s fists curled by his side. “What?”
Padmé frowned and turned her head towards Obi-Wan. “Is that even possible?”
Obi-Wan held a thoughtful expression on his face and gently stroked his auburn beard. “It wouldn’t be the first time a planet was wiped from the records. It happened to Kamino before the War started.”
Ahsoka turned away from the adults and let them talk among themselves, feeling that her input wouldn’t add anything. So she turned her attention to the human boy across from her. He looked severely conflicted by how furrowed his eyebrows where and how he kept nibbling on his lower lip. Not only the physical signs of conflict being completely evident in him, but she could feel the emotional strings of his mind reach out to her.
He’s Force-Sensitive? She asked herself and then cautiously approached him, curiosity swirling inside of her. “Hey, are you okay?”
Peter shrugged and ran a hand through his brown hair. “This was not how I was expecting my night to go, that’s all.”
The Togruta almost laughed, the exact thought crossing her mind. “I get that, name’s Ahsoka by the way.”
“I’m Peter, hi Ahsoka.” he offered her a half-hearted smile, one that she returned.
A shadow of something flew overhead, accompanied by what Ahsoka could only assume was a jet pack. Her hand instantly fell onto her lightsabers by her hip, turning her head in the direction of her Master. Bright lights then shined brightly, causing Ahsoka to raise a hand to block it from blinding her as five silhouettes appeared from the source of the light.
“Stay where you are,” a modulated voice said and stepped forward, revealing a red and golden droid aka the source of the lights that came from its palms. “Give us the kid and we can do things without ruining Central Park.”
"I don’t think this hostility is necessary,” Padmé started her cordial senator mask falling onto her easily, putting her hands up to show that she meant no harm. “Our ship crashed while we escaping an ambush set up by Separatist sympathizers. We will be more than willing to explain everything to you, but please, we need medical assistance and a place to repair our ship.” she carefully explained, staring at the droid and discerning that the make and model wasn’t Separatist grade.
Tony Stark turned his head to the side to one of the silhouettes but kept his hands raised just in case. “What do you think, Cap? Do you believe their story?”
Steve Rogers scanned the group before them. One of the men was holding his side, while another looked like he was going to pass out because of pure exhaustion. Three of the five individuals had slim silver cylinders on their belt, as for the other two had guns he has never seen before. If anything, they looked bruised and tired, and didn’t seem hostile.
“I do believe them,”
Tony made a small disgruntled noise but then lowered his arms to his side. “Fine,” he eyed them warily and scanned the group with his sensors, seeing that four of them were humans while one was indeed an alien species. “F.R.I.D.A.Y., bring in the cavalry to get their space bucket out of here,”
Obi-Wan staggered in his footing, causing Rex, who was the closest to him, to hold him steady. “Careful there, sir,”
“I’m fine,”
“Nope, you’re a liar,” Tony scoffed as he did a full scan on this bearded guy. “You’ve got a concussion and two broken ribs if my medical sensors are right, which they usually are..”
“Obi-Wan! You said it was nothing,” Anakin scolded his former mentor.
“And it is!”
“Alright, tough guy,” Natasha Romanoff rolled her eyes as she walked over. “Let’s get you to someone who can make sure of that, hm?”
Clint and Natasha helped round everyone into one of the black SVU’s parked along the side walk while R2-D2 hurriedly rolled behind them and beeped incessantly.
“What the kriff is going on?” he asked.
“I’ve got no clue, Artooie,” Ahsoka patted his metal dome with her gloved hand.
“I’ve got a bad feeling about this.” the droid beeped nervously before hoisting himself inside the strange looking speeder.

Alright because clearly I haven't spammed my blog with enough posts about the Mandalorian, here are my thoughts written out.
The finale has left me very conflicted. The simple fact of the matter is there won't be a resolution to this confliction until after Season 3 premiers and I see what they're doing with it from here. It's in a very raw and tentative spot for me, because it could very easily go bad from where they left it, but upon further-further thought, I've moved beyond being largely disappointed and into more of a "I hope to God they do it right" stage.
Initially, I was thrilled with the episode. I, being mostly distant from Star Wars minus the original 6 movies (which I'm by no means obsessed with) and this show, absolutely did not call that Luke would show up--or R2, lol. Grogu's tender touch of Din's helmet, asking to see his face? Destroyed me. It was a very cathartic ending and an emotional wrecking-ball. But even in my temporary euphoria, I remember being confused as to why we didn't get to see the moment when Din and Grogu were reunited.
Then I thought about it some more, and I became...much less pleased. Why didn't Din ask to go with Grogu and Luke (or at least ask where they're going)? Why did he voluntarily give him up so easily? Why did he take off his mask in front of a room full of people and a literal stranger, thus seemingly turning away from a tenet of his Creed? I was frustrated that the narrative allowed these things to happen when the issues could have easily been avoided by having a reunion scene with Grogu and Din alone before going back to the main room and by adding a couple lines of dialogue. This left me worried that Grogu's story was over, that Din was no longer going to follow the religion he has thus far steadfastly adhered to, and that the next season would be spent having him become the reluctant ruler of Mandalore (another man-becomes-leader-against-his-will story when literally all he wanted, as he stated several times, was to save his son. And he just lost him). I felt that the show used fanservice to cover over the fact that they simply didn't have a narratively satisfying ending.
Looking at it again, not all of my issues are resolved, but I understand a bit more of why they did what they did with the story arc. In all honesty, for as much as I treasure the father-son bond between Din and Grogu, the whole plot of the show thus far has revolved around Din finding a Jedi to give Grogu to. Without that "transaction" actually occuring, the previous two seasons would have felt largely pointless. (Well, isn't the real point of the series about Din learning that Grogu is his son and that he doesn't have to give him up?) That's what I'd thought, but really, if that was the plot of the show, it should have ended after season two (with some changes to the ending). Din should've kept Grogu, and that final moment of "No, he's my kid, and he's staying with me," wouldn't leave anywhere else for things to really go, so the show could end with the "dawn of a new day" feeling of potential (where will they go from here?) and that would be curtains. It would work wonderfully as an ending, and I would have been happy with it, but we have another season (which I'm happy about). This means that the plot has to continue to move forward, and that also means honoring the plot that you've already set in motion.
Additionally, I'd like to emphasize what I've seen some people write about: ultimately, it was Grogu's choice to leave. Din refusing to let him go would be acting counter to all of what he had been trying to do--he was bound by Creed to deliver the child to one of his own kind, and that is what he did. Not only would Din refusing to let Grogu go ruin the trust they had established by denying him his choice, and also effectively invalidate the sacrifices he made on his journey (although he learned to see Grogu as his son, many of the sacrifices he made came as a direct result of attempting to fulfil his quest to deliver him to the Jedi, so refusing to do so would render those sacrifices useless to some degree), refusing to let Grogu go would also mean Din would be turning his back on his Creed. He delivered Grogu safely, and let him choose (as he chose on the Seeing Stone) to go with the Jedi.
And if Din were to go with them, there wouldn't really be much for him to do besides...stand around and watch? That's all he did when Ahsoka was working with Grogu--and that wouldn't leave any room for him to grow (nor make for an interesting show). He himself has expressed that he can't train Grogu and has always treated the situation as one that he can't participate in once he gives Grogu to the Jedi. Although they are ancient enemies, so it makes sense why he wouldn't want to just...hang around, I think it has more to do with the fact that in mentorship, you need to see your teacher as a parental figure, in a way (including in Jedi training--take Anakin and Obi Wan, for example). Din wouldn't want to be a distraction, nor would he fit in in that environment. His life wasn't nearly as fulfilling before Grogu came into it, but really, from both a character and a writing perspective, the only realistic choice is for them to part ways.
Also, it is a little short-sighted to assume that the show is only as good as the Din-Grogu bond is. We now have an opportunity to get closer to Din as an individual, which could be interesting, if they keep his character consistent. I think it would be a huge mistake not to bring Grogu back (preferably next season--maybe Ahsoka is right and he isn't good for training since he is too attached to Din? Luke delivers him at one of Din's lowest moments and we get a joyful reunion?? I would take that), but I don't think it's out of line to try to explore Din's character apart from Grogu.
In fact, it might ultimately be better. If the show can prove to us that we're not just there for the bond, but for the characters and their bonds, that's infinitely superior. And the show does need to avoid getting locked into just one thing. In branching out, it's trying to establish a stronger base for what it should build on later. It also keeps things varied, which makes them interesting.
The trouble is, where they go from here is what will determine a lot of the validity in that last statement. Changing the story entirely is a big risk, but that means the characters need to stay the same, at least largely, so that the audience feels that they are watching the same show. And some of the decisions made in the finale can go either way. When Din takes off his helmet, is he honoring his son's request, but thus putting love or emotion above his faith? Is he following his Creed by protecting his child (albeit only emotionally)? Is he turning away from his faith altogether and returning to the broken, lonely man he was before, but now without his Creed to guide him? Is he proving Bo-Katan right? Does he consider those he's with to be family (as they all just saved his child), including the Jedi stranger (because Din is giving Grogu to him, trusting him to mentor him and act as his parental figure), thus allowing him to remove his helmet by Creed? Did he not think of these things at all, and simply acted because his son is precious to him? Really, what does that decision mean for Din's character? The answer ultimately won't be known until next season. The same goes for the plot about the Darksaber. Will this end up being another reluctant-hero story (with the traits of the protagonist being reworked to fit into it), or will this be a refreshing subversion of the trope? We can't know until next year. (And don't even get me started on the "foreshadowing of Grogu as evil" stuff. We had better not see that. I don't need that angst...)
The largest source of my anxiety comes from not being able to imagine how they can work with the show from here to maintain the primary aspects of why I love it. I don't want any romance (but without Grogu, will they feel compelled to add some in?) and I don't want Din to become a typical tropey figure (but with the plot about the Darksaber being set up as it is, will they have the guts to avoid that?). Most of all, I want Din to get his son back, but to walk back that decision after only an episode or two would again make everything that came before seem rather unnecessary.
In summary, then, after oscillating wildly between conflicting emotions, I am just left to say: I can't figure out how they're going to do it, but ultimately, time spent worrying is time wasted. I have to just trust that they've got some ideas. The people in charge have proven that they know what they're doing before (Chapter 15 was excellent, for example) and although they aren't perfect, it would be premature to say it can only go downhill from here--they may well have a larger arc planned out that this proves to be an essential part of. It may well be horrible. It could be great. But for now, let's just make the most of what we have.

so. you got your hopes up for star wars again.
Tumblr media
also sorry for this being long without a read more. im on mobile.
look, i’ll be honest. season two was good for the most part (save for the ending, but we’ll get to that in a bit). it certainly had problems and i definitely prefer the first season to this one, but there was also a lot to like. it took me away and after a shitty week i appreciated that.
that being said.....i hope everyone who harped on me for not liking all the cameos feel stupid now. it’s clear as day that this season was meant to be a launching point for several spin-offs. and that really pisses me off. ive said this a million times before, what drew me in to the first season was the fact that it was its own thing. after the st and it’s nostalgia bait, this healed my broken star wars heart. it went back to classic sw - a story about family. there was a clear parallel between din and grogu, there was fantastic character development, it hit all the right beats. season two hit a lot of the right beats as well, but it failed in a lot of others. by far my favorite episode was the first one which felt a lot like the first season. din stumbles into people with a problem as he’s moving throughout the galaxy and helps them. i really liked that format. and technically yeah, he does that in the other episodes too, but it just felt....different. din was often sidelined in his own story.
so anyway, let’s get to what you guys want me to talk about the most.
Tumblr media
the ending. god the ENDING. to be fair, it’s nowhere near as bad as the st, i’ll give it that. the show isn’t ruined for me and i still plan on watching season 3. however. god do i have a lot of problems with it.
a lot of other people have said it better than me, but i’ll go through it anyway. one of the biggest problems with the ending for me is din taking off his helmet in front of everyone. in front of grogu is fine. but in front of everyone when they just spent two seasons establishing how deeply important the creed is to him? they just spent the very previous episode showing how deeply unsettling it is for him to be seen without it on? what’s the POINT? im honestly suspicious of something going on (NOT LIKE GRACE RANDLOPH SAID, she was obviously super wrong) because pedro clearly had a haircut and had shaved. was it reshoots? did he do reshoots for something else?
the entire ending just felt so rushed and awkward. there’s all this build up and no proper catharsis. there was a great release at the end of season one when din flying up with grogu paralleled the mandalorians flying up with young din. this one....din goes through all that to get grogu back and just hands him to a stranger. (side note: stop hating on luke for this. he didn’t actually do anything wrong. i personally think it’s a little odd he would split them up since im sure he could also sense their attachment but they both gave permission. he’s not a kidnapper omg). i mean, yeah that was din’s goal, but din’s goal at one point was to turn grogu in for a reward. i assumed the natural conclusion would be grogu choosing to stay with din, especially after the ahsoka episode established he’d be difficult to train due to their attachment. grogu used the force easier when it was with din. why would he suddenly go with luke? idgi.
but, if it makes anyone feel better im 100% positive season three will be about din and grogu. they did a shitty job at announcing the boba fett spinoff but that’s clearly what it is. i mean, din just accidentally became the leader of mandalore. they’re not just going to abruptly end it there.
anyway, if you guys want to talk about it at all, my inbox is open!

Going off of your hoax post it scares me how much folklore is a Star Wars prequels album too like my tears ricochet? this is me trying? the last great American (republic) dynasty? epiphany? It’s like they all fit???
oh absolutely anon, i can and will have to one day actually discuss the entirety of how folklore is literally the star wars album. when the album actually came out, uhhhhh,,,i, along with some others, went off on this whole thing about how some of the songs are eerily reminiscent of tcw / prequels.
but also, bro, yeah, my tears ricochet is such a tcw song / esp. post-rots? and you know what’s haunting? taylor swift herself talked about how this song is about a man stalking the grave of his obsession or something like that. and given anakin’s past....given anakin/vader...
but anyways, the whole line of “i didn’t have it myself to go with grace” and “i swear i loved you ‘till my dying day” and “i still talk to you when i’m screaming at the sky” are all ahsoka, padme, and obi-wan @ anakin specifically. also, the lines “why are you at the wake? cursing my name, wishing i stayed?” like...oh god. thinking about those lyrics paired with vader holding ahsoka’s lightsabers at that crash site...oh god.
as for “the last great american (republic) dynasty”....oh yeah. i always saw this kind of as ahsoka’s song just because i think a lot of how ahsoka was introduced into tcw and how when she was introduced, a lot of fanboys wanted her dead and gone, but like lol, she’s the one who outlived everyone...she had a “marvelous time ruining everything” for y’all :))) (who knows if she never showed up what could have been, amirite? ahsoka tano ma’am, thank u for existing.)
as for epiphany....oh god yeah, so many order 66 / tcw feelings about that, but just. war in general. the whole line about “there’s just some things you can’t speak about”...the line about “keep your life son”...god this song gives me so many clones and jedi feelings, but mostly the clones. “keep your helmet, keep your life son, just a flesh wound, here’s your rifle...” like, i know this song is about taylor swift’s grandfather, who fought in world war ii, and there’s this whole theme in this song about...trauma, and it’s just so incredibly haunting. god. i cry. i physically can’t listen to this song without crying.
also, this is me trying strangely gives me either anakin or obi-wan vibes? just because of the whole line about “i had the shiniest wheels, now they’re rusting” because they’re like...they’re both seen as these big hero figures, but like, by the end of the war, they’re both so tired, but i think it just. it really makes me sad with anakin especially, because he just kinda. burns. (literally.) and as for obi-wan? like, idk, there’s something just. so depressing about this song + him, esp. when i think about the kenobi novelization, because there’s all these tidbits about obi-wan feeling all this grief and loss, and like...clearly trying to get over this terrible, terrible tragedy as he tries over and over and over again to meditate / come in contact with qui-gon, and even though we don’t get a whole ton of his pov in the kenobi book, the little bits and pieces we do get of him are just...so weighted by all this grief and loss and. genuine. this is me trying. this is me trying. this is me trying. and it hurts so much oh my god

Unpopular opinion. Ahsoka should have died  in TCW or Rebels
This is not me hating on Ahsoka, because Ahsoka is one of my favorite characters in Star Wars altogether, but Ahsoka should not have lasted as long as she did, she has been overexposed.
The Jedi are supposed to be all extinct by the time of the Empire, Obi-Wan and Yoda should be the only survivors. Ahsoka lives beyond Order 66, throughout the Galactic Civil War and Filoni plays favorites and literally uses time travel to bring her back. Then apparently she lasts beyond the Galactic Civil War(why did she not meet Obi-Wan, Yoda, Luke or Leia?) Like fuck it is convoluted that she's survived this long. Hell, I will also say that Ezra, Cal and Cere should be dead too. Thrawn's fleet should have crushed the Rebels on Lothal and Vader should have killed Cal and Cere in Fallen Order.  No one but Obi-Wan, Yoda and the Twins should be left alive from the Jedi. Luke is the Last Jedi for a reason.
I came up with an emotional death for Ahsoka in Order 66,  Rex kills her and then Rex kills himself. But for sure if Ahsoka survived  Order 66, she should have died against Vader in Twilight Of The Apprentice. She should have died against Vader, it would solidify him as the monster that he is at this point in time: the one that can only be saved by his son who in turn would be saved by him.
It took away all the tension and emotion by using World Between Worlds in bringing Ahsoka back. Filoni pulled a Moffat by having a dead character come back to life an episode/season later. Kind of insulting. Like imagine if Leia used WBW to prevent Alderaan’s destruction. Yes it would be satisfying to prevent a tragedy, but for story purposes it takes away the tension and the monstrosity of the Empire.
I think it would have been a good end if she was killed by Vader. In their fight she even says "I won't leave you, not this time!", but then time travels out of them and never tries to go to him again. I don't really know what they'll do with her, she isn't mentioned once in the sequels by Luke, so seems unlikely they met up. I don't think there is much they can do with her, not to mention its now dumb that she didn't turn up in the OT.
Better she get killed by Vader in a poignant death scene. With her lamenting she couldn't give Anakin a proper burial with Padme much less kill Vader.
I am not happy about Ahsoka appearing in The Mandalorian. Just...what are you gonna do with her? I am much less happy they are ruining her legacy by having a transphobe play her. She outlived the Empire AND the Skywalkers since Filoni said Ahsoka isn’t dead(good god man let her go) It's clear at this point that Dave Filoni doesn't know when to let go of her as a character. I like her, but It's kind of insane to me that she's now a part of all 3 eras of Star Wars. George Lucas wanted Ahsoka to die at the end of The Clone Wars, but Filoni somehow convinced him that she should live.
Ahsoka has been overexposed and it shows. She's a great character, but she's just become as overexposed as Maul was.

The Mandalorian, Chap. 13 - “The Jedi”
Corralling my thoughts with bullet points under the cut. Not very positive.
Her lekku just aren’t the right fucking length. That is not optional. This show’s budget is $15M/episode and they couldn’t get the lekku to look right? WTF.
One of my questions after the Rebels finale was whether Ahsoka still carried lightsabers. Now my question is…is she a Jedi (again)?
TCW S7 made me think that she would have gone back, in a way that was actually somewhat difficult to square with her insisting constantly in Rebels that she wasn’t a Jedi.
Doth the lady protest too much? The Bendu also called her a “former Jedi Knight” in an unfilmed scene, so.
It’s completely impossible to tell anything from this episode of course because the show is maniacal about not telling anyone anything, but there were a lot of opportunities for Ahsoka to deny being a Jedi and she didn’t take any of them.
Her being a Jedi (again) after her vision quest or whatever in the Sith temple on Malachor would actually fit with the ending of TROS, which I do my best to ignore, but that one thing (which is literally heretical but that’s another story) did happen and it would make sense.
I had assumed that the end scene of Rebels was ROTJ +0-4, but now I think that this episode actually takes place before it?
I guess the question is whether Ezra and Thrawn are still stuck together wherever. We have no information about that, but if they are and Ahsoka is looking for Thrawn, well, there you go.
I do think it makes some sense for Ahsoka to be sensitive to Force-wielders having emotional ties, but her lines about attachment contradict everything else we’ve seen in previous canon about her! Particularly Rebels, where Kanan and Ezra are acknowledged as Jedi by her and they obviously have attachments. Make it make fucking sense.
If it was just a way to continue the Mandalorian’s endless fetch quests, well, just fucking say “sorry I can’t train him, I’m on my own quest” or whatever.
Putting the kid up on a plinth in a random ruined temple and seeing whatever Force-wielder shows up seems like a bad idea! But that’s just me.
It also seems like the Mandalorian should have explicitly said, “Hey this child has been an Imperial test subject,” even if he hasn’t put together that the Imperial remnants are trying to create Force-wielders by transfusing midichlorians into them. That is something that it seems like Ahsoka would want to know!
I said when this show started that it would be funny if they were rewriting the Thrawn trilogy in reverse, and…maybe my joke was on the money??
Star Wars stop hiring transphobes
I don’t think Filoni is a terrible director, and it’s obvious that Lucasfilm is going to continue letting him do whatever, regardless of people’s complaints about giving other creatives a chance. But I do think you can tell his preference for static images coming out of animation in this episode in particular.
Does Ahsoka know Luke Skywalker is alive? Why had Cara Dune never heard of him? Bedlamsbard has remarked that this show seems like it takes place in an AU where Luke and Leia never existed and honestly you can’t disprove that contention using the show itself!
Why not just send Grogu to Luke Skywalker, weird CGI be damned. Star Trek cast a young Spock recently, it can be done.
Why in god’s name did they not get Ashley to at least dub her voice. Or just have Ashley perform her!
If it was because of fight training, I have to say…those fight scenes weren’t great. I get that reverse wielding is very difficult, but those fight scenes were bad. Ahsoka defeated Darth Maul without a scratch on her, twice, and I’m supposed to believe a rando with a staff disarmed her? Please.
Dear Dave Filoni, having Asian main characters in other media does not mean you get a pass on the racial politics of cowed Asian villagers menaced by white people with guns.
I SAW THE PHANTOM MENACE TEN TIMES IN THE THEATER AND I WILL NOT STAND FOR THIS YADDLE ERASURE.

TCW Finale Thoughts
Not much to say in this one, will be short and sweet since not much really happened this episode.
Picking off from the last one, Ahsoka and chipless Rex are trapped within the medbay prepping to face the clones cutting in with Ahsoka telling Rex “Set your blasters to stun, we’re not trying to kill them” which is hilarious considering she didn’t mind cutting down clones when this all started and she had no clue what was happening. No talking them down, no blocking shots elsewhere, no force pushing them out of they, nope she went into kill mode instantly but now she decides she isn’t wanting to kill them. Remember this since it will come up a few times.
Similarly Rex gunned down the first clones who broke through last ep without a second thought and later in this one they make the man cry over his brothers being willing to die to kill Ahsoka when he literally killed his brothers last episode and didn’t care. Fantastic writing as always.
Maul once again the only good thing about this episode as he uses the force to brutally make his way to the reactor room slaughtering all the clones in his way before using the force to crush the entire reactor forcing the ship out of hyperspace and causing it to begin imploding. Also keep in mind, Ahsoka “not trying to kill them” Tano is responsible for god knows how many clone deaths by releasing Maul on the clones to save her skin. Something Rex even is shocked about but as to be expected of this point, she shrugs it off and Rex just drops it.
So Ahsoka, Rex, and the droid trio head to the hangar to steal a shuttle and they of course decide to go the Venator’s massive main hangar instead of the smaller ventral one and sure enough Jessie and co are waiting as they would be, genius logic.
Ahsoka says “They may be willing to die, but I will not be the one to kill them” which again is hilarious considering the last episode. Also Jessie refers to Order 66 as being a direct order from Sidious when no one short of Vader knows Palpatine is a Sith lord, fantastic writing.
So amidst the fighting Maul steals the shuttle and Ahsoka holds him with the force which keep in mind took both Seventh Sister and Fifth Brother to do for a ship half the size of the Republic Shuttle in Rebels and they failed to hold it but Ahsoka can keep this gigantic ship in place no problem with Maul escaping only because she chose to let go.
Rest of the episode is simply the Venator crashing into a planet killing everyone on board with Rex and Ahsoka escaping with what apparently is the only working ship in the entire cruiser. It ends with Ahsoka making graves for several clones which again is just comedic gold since she’s responsible for their deaths. She leaves her lightsabers there we cut to an Imperial shuttle landing on the now snow covered landscape as Vader inspects her saber and leaves it as a god damn convor flies overhead cause why not.
While a cool scene and the Imps and Vader look phenomenal in TCW’s style, you’re seriously telling me Vader went through the trouble of tracking down Ahsoka’s last known whereabouts then later in Rebels when she gets literally ripped through time and space in front of him he just forgets about it? Absolutely brilliant.
In any event thus ends TCW to roaring applause as everyone continues to herald filoni as the next George Lucas for his shoddy illogical fanfiction. I’m just glad it’s over and we have some peace until the next poorly animated, lore destroying, universe breaking series from filoni comes out to his fanboys to blame disney for it’s horrible quality only to come around years later singing it’s praises for filoni for “saving Star Wars”. With how his episode of Mandalorian was received I just can’t wait for him to ruin that show as well since all the normies and non TCW fans will rail him and call him out as the talentless hack he is. As much as people will criticize and deride Kathleen Kennedy or Rian Johnson or JJ Abrams for their horrible direction and films that have ruined Star Wars, everyone forgets the filoni has been eviscerating the lore for much longer and in far worse ways even before disney even came to own Star Wars. The sooner he’s gone the better, and it’s unfortunate that it will likely take the death of The Mandalorian to make people realize what kind of rat has been lurking behind the more publicized Star Wars controversies.

Clone wars season 7 review/rant/thing
Okay buckle up because this is going to be a long and depressing boi. I started to watch Clone Wars about the same time as I watched Star Wars for the first time, so about 10 years ago maybe? I watched the Clone Wars movie so many times and thought it was amazing, and even though I now can recognize its many flaws (or maybe partly because of it) I still grin like an idiot while watching it. I’m one of those people who never disliked Ahsoka, probably because I myself was a young girl and (wanted to be) so much like her. To see that the first female Jedi (with like ... lines and importance, you know) was a little brave, adventurous and cool girl just like I wanted to be, was amazing. I remember how I used to watch Clone Wars on DVD at home, or with friends, because we didn’t have Cartoon Network, and how me, my brother, his friend and his friend’s sister used to play a game where we were jedi and clones and fought each other. (Unfortunately the other girl wanted to be Ahsoka and since I was older I had to give in and be Anakin instead ... ugh). I remember the first time I watched the season finale of season 5, how I went to sleep crying because I was heartbroken and so so angry at the jedi council for what they did. I remember watching the end of season 6 and being heartbroken because I knew that THAT WAS IT and that there would never be any more Clone Wars. I remember watching Rebels and being blown away by Ahsoka’s return, and then once again crying as she fought Vader. I remember seeing the first teaser for season 7, scream and message my friends late in the evening because Clone Wars was BACK. I remember watching the first episode, falling in love once again with one of my favorite shows, being so happy but also really scared because I knew what would come and how much it would hurt. Star Wars the Clone Wars contains the best Star Wars content out there. Somehow I really think that Star Wars, despite being based in movies, works best as a tv-show, because Clone Wars had time for world building and real development that a movie just doesn’t have. It’s amazing to go back and rewatch the first season of Clone Wars and then watch season 7, both to see how all the characters have developed but also to see how much greater the animation has become and how much darker the narrative is. Seasons 1-3 are mostly goofy and fun and seasons 4-7, while still having those lighter parts, dive a lot more into the reality of war and the darker sides of Star Wars that are often talked about but never really FELT. Season 7 really chilled me to the bone at some parts. And the animation. God, the animation is so beautiful and breathtaking. In short, Clone Wars is everything the prequels should have been. They take the best parts from both them and the OT and manages to tell a beautiful and haunting story of war while still being for children and I have NO IDEA how they managed to do that so perfectly. Another thing that I really want to talk about is how Clone Wars disproves the whole thing with spoiler culture that ruined Game of Thrones and, in my opinion, the sequel trilogy. Both of them were obsessed with “subverting expectations uwu”, to the point that they ignored good writing and the natural story progression in favor of chocking the audience. At the same time we have Clone Wars season 7, a season that takes place at the same time as one of the most important movies in the universe, that focuses primarily on two characters that most of us KNOW survives and are seen again in later shows, and despite that I don’t think I’ve been this invested in a story for a really long time. (Can we btw just take a second to imagine how much more horrible this season would have been if Rebels didn’t exist and we didn’t know that Ahsoka and Rex would make it??) I’ll probably come back and rant some more when I have thought about this more, but what I wanted to say with this post is basically this: Thank you. Thank you to Dave Filoni (who btw apparently voiced Cheep, which is an adorable fact), to Ashley Eckstein, to everyone who has worked on this show and made it a great part of my life since 2008. When the credits rolled and I realized that THAT was the ending and that we would never get any more of Clone Wars I almost couldn’t believe it, but at the same time it feels right this way. I’ll turn 18 in October and it’s fitting for me that a part of my childhood ends for real the same year I turn into an adult. I just can’t believe how lucky we are to get a final season this good SIX YEARS after the show was cancelled. That’s a blessing most fan’s never get, and even though Disney 100% decided to let Filoni end his work to get more money, I am still so thankful that they did that. There are so many other things and details and thoughts I would like to get out there, but for now I’ll end it at that. Thank you Star Wars: The Clone Wars, for making me laugh and cry and making me love Star Wars more than I ever thought I could.
