it was an incredibly slow and boring day for you and your girlfriend at family video. it was somewhere between 100°F to 104°F and anyone with half a brain would know better than to come outside of their house in this weather.

you and robin were working the dayshift in the comfort of the shop away from the scorching streets of hawkins, indiana. the two of you were standing, slouched over the countertop.

while robin was rambling about something dumb steve did when the two were in the palace arcade but you weren't paying attention to most of the things she was saying. you were more focused on her face. and how she looked when she talked about something she was passionate about. her hair; the way it fit her face perfectly. your eyes traveled lower to the countertop where her hands were, how they moved what seemed involuntary. her hands; rings covered the base of her fingers and knuckles. and her eyes they --

"that dumbass, i told him to go left, and just out of spite he decides to go right and that got him killed. serves him right that'll teach him to listen to me -- y/n?"

you were too deep in thought to realize the action you made before you made it. your hand was already in motion for you to lift your arm up higher towards her hair and push it back behind her ear. you let your hand linger there in silence before you said --

"y'know robbie you are really fucking pretty..."

her eyes slightly widened at the straightforward compliment that came from your mouth. in an attempt to cover rid her face of a terribly red blush, she ran her hand over her face, her attempt failing since you could see her ear peeking out from behind some loose hair strands.

"i'm sorry i was not paying attention to a word you were saying. i was too busy admiring you.

"i -- uh, i'm flattered.."

"what! you are. i'm lucky to have you as my girlfriend, rob."

"im glad i have you too, y/n"

God. Dumb idea. Probably done before BUT;

Eddie and Steve initiate a game of gay chicken (if you don’t know what that is, it’s where two straight guys pretend to be gay with each other’s for as long as it takes for one of them yo break and stop) (I know it’s kids homophobic and dumb, but written by a queer person for the funnies would make it so good. I would write but I have SO many wips) after Robin or someone made a comment about Eddie’s overly flirtatious mannerisms and Steve’s homoerotic jock-havior matching up.

Like, maybe they’re both closeted (or both out to Rob, but she’s not telling either of them that the other is gay too and so into him because this is HILARIOUS) and so into each other but the go bout this in the dumbest way. They both act impossibly “straight” all the time, only to pull out the gayest most romantic, flustering, horny, poetic ass lines and pretend it all means Nothing, when really it means Everything.

And like, this goes on for Months, back and forth flirting and ass slapping and pressing up against one another and almost kisses with cheeky smirks until one of them just Breaks.

HE CANT TAKE IT ANYMORE! the tension is killing him and every time they walk away he feels this impending sense of longing that breaks his heart. So maybe one time when one leans in for a tease almost kiss, he just actually kisses him. Or maybe he pulls out waxen poetic love confessions, and the other keeps laughing it off until it gets a little too serious. Or maybe (if it’s Eddie that can’t take it) Eddie brings Steve home to Wayne and introduces him as his serious boyfriend and Wayne has seen the flirting and he knows Ed’s gay so he just hugs Steve and gives them the safe sex talk, and Eddie sits and listens like they’re actually together and Steve’s bugging out about it!

Idk, I just think this could be really funny.

(i'm changing things historically for the sake of this story so let's just say the nintendo game boy was made in 1980 💀)

allow me to explain how this whole ordeal started.

...

you worked at 'the palace arcade' in hawkins . indiana and today was your off day so you decided to visit your girlfriend at the star court mall. the two of you talked for a bit before you decided to take your ice cream and sit down because school just let out and the rush hour was coming.

while you were sitting down at your table eating your ice cream and playing on your nintendo game boy, some tall white guy with curly blond hair walked up to you.

"hey sweetheart.. what are you doing here all alone? you do know this town ain't the safest place for pretty girls like you?"

you just politely smiled at the guy and went back to playing super mario land.

"playing hard to get i see. well, ill just have to try a bit harder hm?"

'or you could just leave me alone' you thought to yourself.

just as he began to speak again, robin looked over in your direction just for the sake of looking at you. that's when she saw him talking to you. first, she just thought that he might have been a friend of yours. that was until she saw the uncomfortable look on your face.

"i'll tell you what. how about i take you out tonight?"

"yeah.. um no i'm good, but um thank you."

"oh come on sweetheart.." he said reaching upwards to lift your chin up, your hand stopping him. "i'll --"

"sir, i said no now leave me alone, please."

what happened next was nearly inevitable at this point. i mean this random guy was flirting robin buckley's girlfriend she, of course, wasn't going to let this slide. maybe she didn't have to go as far as punching the guy. but in her defense she did try talking to him but he just dismissed her and continued flirting with you. by then she was completely done with his shit and she hit him. it was pretty rough, especially when he punched her in her jaw, causing steve to run over and pull her back while completely knocking the guy out.

now here you were cleaning her cuts and bruises on a chair in your apartment.

"robbie?" you sighed

"yeah, sweetheart?"

"while i appreciate you caring about me .. might i ask you to please make your caring less violent?"

"look, i'm sorry but that fucker had it coming for him -- ow!"

"robin. i'm serious, you can't just go around punching guys that flirt with me."

she mumbled something incoherent.

"robin!"

"okay okay! fine i guess i can tone it down a bit."

Summary

“Steve, you're not listening to me, if we both combined it would fix all of our romantic issues.” Robin has spent the last 25 minutes restocking complaining about her girl troubles, I don’t mind it but it gets more annoying when Steve is doing the exact same shit.

“How would that fix our issues? We want two completely different girls!” Stave just about shouted putting a couple movies back where they belong roughly.

“That’s why we need to combine! I know what I want but don’t know how to approach her, and you don’t know what you want but know how to approach girls, understand yet dingus?” Robin leaned up against one wall of the store, Steve following suit and processing everything she said.

“That would fix everything, cause then I’d know what I want and you’d actually make a move!” Robin sighed but laughed at Steve’s almost childish antics.

“Ouch but yes, we’d never have another girl problem!” They both looked rather accomplished in this discovery, only to look back at me checking through the returned movies. “How about you (y/n), any girl troubles?”

“Not exactly girl problems Robin…” Both of them took a second to realize what I said before Robin dropped everything in her hands and ran around the counter to body slam me into a hug.

“I FINALLY HAVE A GAY FRIEND!” I smiled a little while hugging her back, guess now was a better time than any to tell them about it, not like any of us had a problem with it to begin with. “Well then let me rephrase my question, any boy problems?” She looked all too smug while asking me that.

“Not really a problem, but I might have a small crush on a guy, he’s nice and I’ve known him for a while but I’m not sure if he’s…ya know, ya know?” Robin had stepped back to listen to my little gay rant about my crush.

“Well, you know who we're going after, why don’t you tell us who your ‘little crush’ is.” Steve had picked up whatever Robin dropped before and walked over to the counter to set them down.

“Promise you won’t judge me for who I say?” Robin looked almost offended at me asking that, Steve just seemed confused.

“Why would we judge you, c’mon tell us.” Taking a deep breath I figured there wasn’t anything bad that would come from me telling them.

“I uh, I like Eddie…” Steve’s jaw dropped and Robin had a smirk that was all too smug.

“I should’ve known from how often you stutter when he comes in to rent something, speak of the devil,” Robin cut her sentence short and pointed to the door where Eddie was walking in with a few VHS cases in his hands.

“Why are you pointing at me Buckley, I do something wrong?” Shrugging his shoulders he walked closer to the desk where I stood, now turned around to face him, and put the cases down to return them.

“Oh nothing, don’t do anything stupid, were still open ya know.” Robin grabbed the stack of VHSs that she was previously putting back onto the shelf.

“What’s she mean by that?” Eddie looked adorable, puppy dog eyes looking into mine like he just got caught stealing from the cookie jar, god how can I lie to this man.

“Um, we were just talking about some uh random stuff before you came in, what um movies are you returning?” I knew what he had rented last time he was here, it was a bad habit of overly paying attention to what he likes and what he rents.

“Back to the future, Jaws, and Psycho, pretty good but probably would’ve been better watching with someone else.” He almost seemed disappointed that he didn’t have anyone to watch them with.

“The Eddie Munson doesn’t have a girl to watch movies with? Now you’re telling me the impossible.” I tried to play off my excitement that he didn’t have someone to watch with, not in a sadistic way, hopeful that I had a shot.

“Well I wouldn’t really want a girl to watch with anyways, don’t need 2 scream queens right?” His question was overly sarcastic, but it made me even more hopeful he was also into guys.

“Well you’ve always got a friend down here to watch with, that is if you want to watch with someone like me, heh. Is there anything you wanna rent next or just returning these today?” I sounded way too obvious when I hinted at watching movies with him, really hoping he didn’t acknowledge it.

“I think I’ll take you up on that offer, what’s your favorite movie, we can have a date night at my place.” That smile would get me into trouble one of these days, too cute.

“Oh um, Top Gun is one of my favorites, you’d really want a date with me?” I tried to hold back the excitement in my voice, he said he wanted a date night, with me, at his place, this is like a dream.

“Of course I’d love a date with Hawkins’ pretty boy, I’ll go find that movie, put it on my account will ya?” Holy shit holy shiy holy shit, he thought I was a pretty boy.

“I’ll cover it, on the house.” He turned back to me and gave me that adorable smile. He ran to get the movie, this was gonna be fun.
