It started at the library. Both of them sitting on the floor, enjoying their research a little too much, and each other’s company even more. Nancy hadn’t yet decided if she was annoyed because Robin talked too much when they should have been studying or if what bothered her was the fact that she very much wasn’t annoyed with Robin when she should have been. It started with a confession, nervously followed by “But I’ve actually never kissed a girl,” and impulsive but secretly hopeful, “Well, me neither… It can’t be that different, right?” Robin scoffed and disagreed. Nancy risked it all and dared her to prove her wrong. It wasn’t surprising that Robin was right, but it was downright shocking that Nancy loved to be wrong for once.

It happened again, in Robin’s bedroom, halfway through a movie that Nancy wanted and simultaneously couldn’t pay attention to, both because of Robin. When the actors started making out on screen, Robin made a joke about chemistry and breaking character, and Nancy had to do and say it was only acting, anyone could do that. Again, Robin rolled her eyes and disagreed, but this time she took the initiative to dare Nancy to prove it. In the end, breathless watching the credits of the movie, Nancy couldn’t figure out which one of them had been right. Robin didn’t ask, anyway.

Soon enough, it became far too easy to come up with excuses, dares, and points to prove. At school, Family Video, Steve’s house, Robin’s empty house, the Wheeler’s basement. Nancy had never been so eager to lose countless arguments. Though she had to admit that when, after all the kissing, Robin pulled back, flushed, smiling, and with darkened eyes told her she was right, those were the greatest victories of Nancy’s life.

There was only one problem, and the millions of ramifications it had: Nancy was falling for Robin. Not just when they were kissing. Maybe especially when they weren’t kissing and it was all she could think about. It wasn’t her fault that Robin Buckley happened to be an extraordinary kisser, capable of reading Nancy like a book and channeling her gentlest or most enthusiastic approach at any given time just following what Nancy most desperately wanted from her. It would have been heaven, if not for the fact that, without fail, Nancy walked away burdened and frightened of her emotions, while Robin seemed to go on with her life as usual, cheerful and unattached.

After one too many failed attempts at ending things, Nancy finally reached her limit. They were parked on the side of a lonely road, and she was quite successfully proving to Robin that making out in a car wasn’t too uncomfortable to be enjoyable.

“We have to stop,” Nancy whispered, against Robin’s lips.

Robin, who was always a little too nervous and committed to making sure Nancy was comfortable, pulled back instantly, as if struck by lightning. That didn’t stop her from continuing to stare longingly at Nancy’s lips, as if she hadn’t been kissing them half a second ago.

“What’s wrong?” Robin wondered.

“You have to stop kissing me like you mean it,” Nancy said, smiling sadly. But she contradicted herself and indulged in one more kiss from Robin, even if it was too short, even if it was the last, she would treasure it forever. When she pulled back, she said, “Because I’m starting to believe it. And, I… I shouldn’t.” Nancy looked down at her lap. She had promised herself she would find a way to end this without saying too much, but her feelings for Robin turned out to be too large to be completely contained. “I should let you go,” Nancy said, avoiding Robin’s eyes, so quietly, hoping maybe Robin wouldn’t hear her say, “Before I break my own heart…”

If there was anything else to say or a chance to escape, everything was interrupted by Robin’s gentle but slightly trembling fingers on Nancy’s chin.

“What if I meant them?” Robin asked as she tilted Nancy's chin up to face her. She grinned when she caught the awe-struck look on Nancy’s face. “I’ve meant every single kiss, Nance. I like you. I’ve liked you even before the first one.”

Nancy’s lips parted in surprise, and for a moment she thought she might cry. Then she chuckled lightly and asked, “Really? Do you mean that?”

Robin’s timid smile turned into a playful grin that confirmed to Nancy it was far too late to run away from her feelings for the other girl.

“Can I prove it?” Robin asked her, raising an eyebrow and laughing along with Nancy. But, a moment later, Nancy shook her head, and although she couldn’t fight her smile, she was entirely serious when she replied.

“No more dares, Robin. Nothing to prove. Just you and me, okay?”

i think it's rather telling that out of all the ships for stranger things characters, byler is the only one where most of the people who ship the "gay alternative" fuckin hate the "straight canon."

ronance is a good ship, but jancy is too. elmax is adorable but lumax is iconic. even when people prefer the gay ship they often feel guilty about splitting up or negating the possibility of the straight ship, because both pairings are great!!!

say what you will about st*ddie, i personally don't care about it, but the amount of support for it vastly overshadows what's shown for st*ncy. seem contradictory to my point??? not at all, when canon doesn't point toward st*ncy endgame.

the stranger things writers know how to write good ships. lumax is fantastic. jancy is beloved. i have mixed feelings on hopper's development, but they built jopper very skilfully. st*ncy sucks because it's supposed to suck. we haven't seen much of rickie yet, but their few interactions were cute.

so why, for the love of god, is m'leven Like That??? it's not that the duffers can't write realistic or enjoyable relationships between younger teens because we've all seen how they've developed lumax. m'leven is a middle school romance that falls through the moment the pressure is on, and it's bloody realistic as that. it's not realistic as genuine soulmateism and it doesn't come anywhere near the standard set by the rest of the show.

i don't think the duffers are inconsistent writers. i think they're very consistent, they're just writing a varied set of relationship dynamics that don't all boil down to boy meets girl, the end.

Idk dude i dont care about ship wars or whatever all ships are valid. I'm not "anti jancy" i'm not anti any ship idk what people ship. I dont remember ever seeing those posts you just linked idk what you're talking about.

But fun fact: i like jancy, actually!!! Today i come out as a jancy enjoyer, despite all my problems with it: he took photos of her without her consent, he was a misogynistic little bitch in S3 and in S4 they had sooo many problems. Jancy is falling to pieces before our eyes, but I still find them cute in S1 and S2. I'm allowed to enjoy my problematic faves. They're not my otp but I'm not blind, anon, they have a lot going for them and I'm disappointed that the duffers dropped the ball with them.

Also "they're a stancy shipper so they're probably anti-ronance" 1) dont care 2) how would you know.

Dont try to drag me into drama, anon, I seriously couldn't care less about what other people ship or don't ship. I don't "hate" people having different opinions from mine, i'm not "angrily" against any ship. Okay, first of all it’s never to much because I absolutely adore talking about stranger things.

DISCLAIMER: I am not trying to attack anyone or make anyone feel bad these are just my opinions. I will tag this accordingly.

Hopper- DILF, the end.

Okay, but in all seriousness I absolutely love Hopper. I love his development and his desire to protect the people he loves. I don’t care what anyone says, Hopper is a great dad. He isn’t perfect (no one is) but he always did his best to protect El. Once she came into his world, she become his world. One of my favorite moments with them was in season three when they were at the mall and he told El that she, “didn’t have to do this” (I’m paraphrasing) meaning fight the monster thing the mind flayer made. He always let her know there was an option not to use her powers, which was something that she had never had before. Also another one of my favorite hopper moments was when he basically threatened Mike. I don’t care what anyone says that was hilarious.

Stranger things as a whole:

Is it perfect? No, but no media is. It is extremely enjoyable and I love it. It’s extremely endearing and I love how all the scary monster stuff is contrasted with the kids being goofy and being friends. This has quickly become one of my favorite shows and I forgot how much I loved it until I watched season 4 and went back and watched seasons 1-3.

Ships:

I have many many thoughts on this. I’m just going to do the mainish ones so if I leave any out I’m sorry.

Jopper: Absolutely perfect

Stancy: I am going to make some people mad but I feel like a large majority of Stancy shippers view Nancy as some sort of consolation prize for Steve. I can see why people ship them but I think it does a disservice to their character development to have them get back together. In the wise words of Winston Schmidt, “don’t be a backslider”

Jancy:(is that the ship name idk)

He took pictures of Nancy when she was naked without her knowledge or consent. “Oh but that was a long time ago so much happened since then” I literally don’t care. He barely apologized and they just never talked about it again. It’s super weird. I love Jonathan and I don’t think he is a bad person. I just think being in a relationship with someone who did that to you is super weird. This is more on the writers for how they handled it tbh.

Lumax: Absolutely perfect. I adore them with my whole heart.

Ronance: I absolutely love this. It’s very wonderful.

Vicky x Robin: They are super cute!!! They have really good potential and I am curious to see where they go with that. Also having similar quirks does not mean they are carbon copies of each other. Calm down people.

Steddie: Amazing. 10/10. My wonderful beautiful friend @tyrannusbasiltons writes fic for them and it’s amazing.

However, a lot of the shippers need the calm the fuck down and stop harassing that poor actress that plays Chrissy.

Eddie x Chrissy: SUPER CUTE!!! I love the idea of it and it’s very sweet. Also they have very cute fanart.

Mileven: They are very cute!! I do enjoy them, not as much as I used to though. They have a very sweet pure teenage love.

Byler: This is a very cute ship. I support Will Byers in all his romantic efforts even if I believe he could do better. One of my favorite pastimes is watching Byler edits to Taylor swift songs. My personal opinion is that Mike is Bi. I think there is real validity to this ship. It would be cool if they could make it cannon but in all honesty I just want Will to end season 5 happy with a boyfriend. Doesn’t have to be Mike.

Also this is conflicting cause I absolutely adore El and want her to have the whole entire world. I do think it would be good for both El and Mike to date other people though.

Elmax: Absolutely perfect. 100/10. I think this ship is super adorable.

Aro/aspec friendly/LGBTQ+ friendly fanfiction

Writing for all pronouns with little to no character description for reader insert (send your pronouns with your requests or inserts with be gender neutral)

Mostly romance-less/sexless fanfiction with a short selection of your favorite characters listed below

Most fanfics are genfic (or nonromantic or sexual in nature) but will be written for audiences no less than 14 years of age.

Robin for the ask game!

ooo, one of my faves, yay!!

1. What do you like the most about them? this one is tough because there's so much i like about robin. i love how witty she is, but her snarkiness is balanced out by her moments of being earnestly tender and caring for her friends. i think her gay little salute is one of my favorite quirks she has, idk, i just love it

2. What's their sexuality? lesbian, obviously. honestly, seeing her coming out scene meant so much to me. that she could be such an interesting, well written character who was loved and also be a lesbian meant a lot to me.

3. Otp ship: Ronance. I feel like robin and nancy just *fit* well together. i've seen post after post about how robin is everything jonathan and steve haven't been for nancy and i LOVE those posts, i go feral for them. however, i feel like nancy is really good for robin, too. she doesn't get put off by robin's "hyperness" the way other characters (even steve) have been and i think nancy is one of the few people in hawkins that robin could have a serious connection with. they're both so intelligent and caring and i really do think the two of them would make an excellent couple. also their chemistry together is off the fucking charts

4. Notp ship: any time she's shipped with a man. i don't get why people insist on doing that. also, it's not necessarily a notp for me, but i don't really get rockie. vickie would need to be really fleshed out well and not just a copy of robin in season five for me to be truly happy with them ending up together

5. Favourite friendship: Steve Harrington :) stobin is so special to me in a way i cannot quite describe. i love their energy and the way they play off one another. they remind me a lot of my relationship with my best friend or with my brother. idk, i just think they're neat.

6. Would you date them? yeah. robin has a certain kind of charm and also seems like the type of person i could have a conversation with, you feel? like, we could spend time together and it would still be enjoyable and interesting. (i answered these out of order, but question 13 goes more into this, too)

7. If you were them for a day what would you do? hopefully not be fighting monsters lol. i think if i were robin for a day, i'd probably want to hang out with steve. i know her characterization tends to be overshadowed by her relationship with steve (ppl like to boil her down to steve's best friend and leave it at that), which i hate, but i genuinely do love the dynamic steve and robin have. i love seeing strong, supportive platonic relationships that are the, like, anchor for both characters. it's very special to me.

8. If you could change something about them what would it be? i would give her more screen time. that's honestly it. i think robin is played very well in the show, i love the way she's written. the only thing i'd change would to have her be in the show even more.

9. How do you think they smell like? i feel like robin smells warm, if that makes sense? maybe smokey, whiskey, that type of thing? or old paper. idk, i haven't really thought about it lol

10. If you had the chance to ask them only one question what would it be? i would ask robin what she thinks about life, like, in general. i feel like she would have some really good wisdom to give.

11. Do you think you have something in common with them? other than being gay? she seems like a big reader. one of her biggest supporters in hs was her english teacher (i was lucky to have a pretty big system of friends, but i did spend a lot of lunches with my favorite teacher). my go to when i'm getting to know people is to be either really awkward or sarcastic and snarky.

12. Do you ever wanted to slap them? Why? when she was suggesting steve and nancy get back together. girl, that is not a good option for anyone. i feel like robin being the one to initiate that conversation was really weird. especially since (in my personal opinion) you shouldn't be pushing your bestie to get back with his ex. there's a reason they broke up, even if they've both changed, that doesn't mean they're suddenly right for each other.

13. What would you do if they kiss you? what if i plead the fifth on this one?? i would definitely kiss her back. the reason i started watching stranger things was because my mom said (pretty much word for word) "there's a gay character that comes in about half way through and she is exactly your type. she's smart and witty and just matches your vibe exactly. you're going to be obsessed." and my mom was SO RIGHT, big shout out to her for looking out for me lol

my thoughts on stranger things s4, volume 1 (SPOILERS BEWARE)

overall — this season answered a lot of questions and explored the shows lore in a way that season 3 failed to. it was emotional, well acted and ambitious. however like many people said, it was bloated.

the new characters — chrissy and eddie were great. i was quickly able to connect with both of them, even with chrissy’s short time on screen. patrick and fred also. argyle was a mixed bag; he was funny and enjoyable, but i feel they could’ve done more with him. jason, on the other hand, would’ve been better in smaller doses.

overall pros:

- max’s story. it was absolutely perfect. sadie is a gem to watch, and i’ve always connected to max, but this season blew it out of the water.

- both byler and ronance were so great to watch, and there were some really touching moments for byler. ronance bounced off each other in a way i found really fun.

- lucas sinclair. giving lucas more emotional depth, taking his bond with max more seriously, giving him time with dustin, and allowing us to watch him grapple with high school was great. it took me back to season 1, when we actually followed him on a journey.

- el. i have a few issues with her storyline, but overall it was definitely a hit. millie proved that she can literally do anything when it comes to acting. to me, el is a hero with or without her powers, and sometimes i wish someone else would save her this time.

- vecna was a solid villain, a big improvement from previous seasons.

- there are quite a lot more pros, such as erica and lucas’s amazing chemistry as siblings, and the way they got creative with the upside down, but you get the idea.

now for the cons:

- as much as i love hopper and joyce, the russia plot was a huge mistake. i really don’t think it should have ever been made a thing. at least in season 3 it was more visually and narratively interesting.

- nancy was brilliant and then she wasn’t. i didn’t like the whole stancy thing, and that’s not just because i’ve never never shipped them. 1: it was out of character for both of them. 2: i wanted more nancy and robin, or more Platonic nancy and steve.

- the jock plot was too prevalent, although i appreciated the satanic panic stuff they were incorporating.

also el’s story was incredible, but the stuff with peter did get confusing at times.

Weren't you writing a Stranger Things fic?

I was. Then I thought it was terrible, so I put it on hiatus and rewrote it. Then I thought that rewrite was still terrible and haven't gotten around to rewriting it again. But maybe writing it all out--what I think is wrong, how I want to fix it--will help. Suggestions appreciated: I really want to make Home is Behind, the World Ahead (TWA) the best it can be.

The core problem with TWA right now, in my eyes, is the lack of character development. I got so excited to get from Point A to Point B that I failed to reasonably show the characters changing and growing in order to get there, too. The most egregious in what is posted currently, I'd say, are the Ronance bits: I honestly kind of forgot Nancy was dating Jonathan, which is a pretty big no-no on account of it being a massive influence on both girls' actions. So I rewrote that arc to be a slower burn out of necessity of the extenuating circumstances. But that isn't the only example.

Chrissy's whole character is another massive one. The whole point of the fic is an Eddie & Chrissy friendship, because I really liked them in their few minutes of screentime together and wanted to see more. The canon Chrissy we got was very anxious and fairly stifled by expectations; she's buckling under all the pressure. That's Point A. The Point B I wanted to see was a Chrissy who still embraced femininity and more or less retained her interests from before the events of season 4, but was freed from those expectations and was overall more confident and sure of herself. She would be doing those things out of her own enjoyment of them, not because others wanted her to. I definitely wanted her to pick up some of Eddie's damn-them-all-I-do-what-I-want attitude, but to apply it to a much brighter and traditionally femme aesthetic, because the problem isn't her fashion or hobbies, it's the external pressure she gets to be doing those things the right way. Something something joy is radical, you know the quote (or at least I hope you do, because I've forgotten it).

But in my excitement to get Chrissy from that stifled Point A to that joyous Point B, I forgot to justify it. I forgot to show how Chrissy got there in her mindset. This also plays into how I write Chrissy defying Vecna: by being so disruptive, so undeniably there that he cannot ignore her to go after his other victims. That's a very punk mindset, I think, and it would be a great thing for Eddie to impart on Chrissy in a touching heart-to-heart conversation that leaves her determined to prove why she deserves to live, as miraculous and perhaps undeserved her survival feels. Too bad we don't have one of those.

Good thing I'm the writer and can give us that. But that unfortunately takes time and effort and I am chronically unable to focus on just one thing for an extended period of time. But mark my words: I will rewrite TWA again, and I will make it a thing worthy of reading or something equally melodramatic (I am very tired as of writing this). In the meantime, any flaws you yourself see in the fic? Point em out! And maybe send some of your favorite Stranger Things fics my way. They help me get inspired!

(Though preferably no smut; I can see the appeal in a theoretical way, but I am very asexual and just get uncomfortable and bored)

Robin is definitely my favorite character. Her entire personality is just the best ever. I love her scenes with Nancy, but I am still somewhat on the fence about platonic versus romantic Ronance. What are your thoughts on Robin and Steve's friendship?

I agree with your indecision on Ronance... I can see the dynamic working, but I can also see it... not working. And Robin's thing with Vickie is just adorable, so I don't knowwww. I honestly just want her to be happy, and I don't have much of a preference on how that works out, as long as it's done well.

As for Robin and Steve... I honestly adore their friendship. I think I may have said some of this before, and I hope it doesn't come across as too repetitive/derivative, but their season 3 repartee remains one of my favorite parts of the show. Her dry humor is great, and the two of them play off each other brilliantly. The serotonin boost their interactions give me --- literally, any interaction --- is sublime. (idk if anon --- or anyone else reading this --- knows of Ten and Donna from Doctor Who, but that friendship and Robin's with Steve are my favorite solely-platonic, chaotic friendships I have ever seen.) And I think that Robin and Steve compliment each other pretty near perfectly.

I honestly haven't run into people who dislike their friendship --- I'm not saying they don't exist; just that I haven't heard any comments from them --- so I don't know what criticism refutations to give... If anyone out there disagrees with what I've said, I'm curious as to why (polite answers only, please). Regardless, I hope my thoughts were decently enjoyable, and I hope to hear from you again!

Unpopular opinion: I'd rather see Stonathan becoming friends than Ronance. Im pretty sure the Duffers are going to butcher Ronance's dynamic by turning it into another superficially written #girlpower subplot with the "girls rule and boys drool" mentality. Like they did for Elmax.

oh yeah i don’t think people realise that i’m being 100% serious when i say that i don’t want robin and nancy to be friends in season four. the duffers don’t know how to write women and they don’t know how to write relationships and i’d rather get nothing then sit and watch them ruin nancy’s character further and give us an empty female friendship that feels like nothing but a cheap feminism cop out. i don’t really trust them to write stonathan well either (at least 80% of my enjoyment of it as a ship is based in the fact i can make so much up) but at least they don’t hate men the way they do women.
