ATTENTION ALL VIRGINIA RESIDENTS!!
Your governor is currently trying to pass updated student model policies that mean, basically:
All schools must require a written consent form from parents in order to use a different name/pronouns for their child, and students currently using different names and pronouns will be forcibly outed to their parents.
As you can imagine, this is a Living Hell for all trans students. HOWEVER: YOU CAN HELP THEM!
There is currently a 3 day comment period ending TOMORROW AT NOON. email [email protected] with comments AGAINST the policy!
They’re also meeting on december 19 at 10am (get there early- around 8:30 so you get a seat) in the Pocahontas Buidling Senate Room A (900 East Main Street, Richmond)
There are anti-trans organizations going to the committee meeting as well, show up if at all possible so you can, to show power in numbers.
YOU CAN HELP TO KEEP TRANSGENDER STUDENTS SAFE! PLEASE REBLOG AND SHARE THIS POST AS MUCH AS YOU CAN!

Rowling isn't denying holocaust. She just pointed out that burning of transgender health books is a lie as that form of cosmetic surgery didn't exist. But of course you knew that already, didn't you?
I was thinking I'd probably see one of you! You're wrong :) Let's review the history a bit, shall we?
In this case, what we're talking about is the Institut für Sexualwissenschaft, or in English, The Institute of Sexology. This Institute was founded and headed by a gay Jewish sexologist named Magnus Hirschfeld. It was founded in July of 1919 as the first sexology research clinic in the world, and was run as a private, non-profit clinic. Hirschfeld and the researchers who worked there would give out consultations, medical advice, and even treatments for free to their poorer clientele, as well as give thousands of lectures and build a unique library full of books on gender, sexuality, and eroticism. Of course, being a gay man, Hirschfeld focused a lot on the gay community and proving that homosexuality was natural and could not be "cured".
Hirschfeld was unique in his time because he believed that nobody's gender was either one or the other. Rather, he contended that everyone is a mixture of both male and female, with every individual having their own unique mix of traits.
This leads into the Institute's work with transgender patients. Hirschfeld was actually the one to coin the term "transsexual" in 1923, though this word didn't become popular phrasing until 30 years later when Harry Benjamin began expanding his research (I'll just be shortening it to trans for this brief overview.) For the Institute, their revolutionary work with gay men eventually began to attract other members of the LGBTA+, including of course trans people.
Contrary to what Anon says, sex reassignment surgery was first tested in 1912. It'd already being used on humans throughout Europe during the 1920's by the time a doctor at the Institute named Ludwig Levy-Lenz began performing it on patients in 1931. Hirschfeld was at first opposed, but he came around quickly because it lowered the rate of suicide among their trans patients. Not only was reassignment performed at the Institute, but both facial feminization and facial masculization surgery were also done.
The Institute employed some of these patients, gave them therapy to help with other issues, even gave some of the mentioned surgeries for free to this who could not afford it! They spoke out on their behalf to the public, even getting Berlin police to help them create "transvestite passes" to allow people to dress however they wanted without the threat of being arrested. They worked together to fight the law, including trying to strike down Paragraph 175, which made it illegal to be homosexual. The picture below is from their holiday party, Magnus Hirschfeld being the gentleman on the right with the fabulous mustache. Many of the other people in this photo are transgender.

[Image ID: A black and white photo of a group of people. Some are smiling at the camera, others have serious expressions. Either way, they all seem to be happy. On the right side, an older gentleman in glasses- Magnus Hirschfeld- is sitting. He has short hair and a bushy mustache. He is resting one hand on the shoulder of the person in front of him. His other hand is being held by a person to his left. Another person to his right is holding his shoulder.]
There was always push back against the Institute, especially from conservatives who saw all of this as a bad thing. But conservatism can't stop progress without destroying it. They weren't willing to go that far for a good while. It all ended in March of 1933, when a new Chancellor was elected. The Nazis did not like homosexuals for several reasons. Chief among them, we break the boundaries of "normal" society. Shortly after the election, on May 6th, the book burnings began. The Jewish, gay, and obviously liberal Magnus Hirschfeld and his library of boundary-breaking literature was one of the very first targets. Thankfully, Hirschfeld was spared by virtue of being in Paris at the time (he would die in 1935, before the Nazis were able to invade France). His library wasn't so lucky.
This famous picture of the book burnings was taken after the Institute of Sexology had been raided. That's their books. Literature on so much about sexuality, eroticism, and gender, yes including their new work on trans people. This is the trans community's Alexandria. We're incredibly lucky that enough of it survived for Harry Benjamin and everyone who came after him was able to build on the Institute's work.
Tumblr media
[Image ID: A black and white photo of the May Nazi book burning of the Institute of Sexology's library. A soldier, back facing the camera, is throwing a stack of books into the fire. In the background of the right side, a crowd is watching.]
As the Holocaust went on, the homosexuals of Germany became a targeted group. This did include transgender people, no matter what you say. To deny this reality is Holocaust denial. JK Rowling and everyone else who tries to pretend like this isn't reality is participating in that evil. You're agreeing with the Nazis.
But of course, you knew that already, didn't you?
Edit: Added image IDs. I apologize to those using screen readers for forgetting them. Please reblog this version instead.

some good news!! the spanish state's ministry of equality has finally passed one of the most progressive trans laws on the planet, shielded free and universal access to abortion and banned conversion therapy and genital surgery for intersex babies, among a lot of other feminist policies. the minister of equality irene montero gave a speech thanking spain's lgtb and trans associations for helping her draft these legislations. couldn't be more proud!!

“Me hating men isn’t radfem behavior! TERFs don’t even actually hate men, they just hate trans women.” Radfems would beg to fucking differ!! They most certainly hate men, and they will tell you so with pride. Have you ever actually heard from a radfem? They think all men are inherently predatory and dangerous and should be kept as far away from women as humanly possible if not outright be killed. Yes, they hate trans women the most—because they conceptualize them as men mocking and harming “real” women. That doesn’t mean they aren’t also misogynistic towards trans women; they are. That also doesn’t mean they don’t team up with cis men against trans people sometimes; they do. But if you look into it literally at all you will immediately see that radical feminist ideology hinges on blaming not just the structure of patriarchy but individual men for the oppression of women. If coming to terms with that makes you uncomfortable, sit with that for a while and figure out just how comfortable you are with bio- and gender-essentialism.

I will say this once because I'm tired of seeing stupid discourse: anti-transmasculinity is not about being treated bad because we clock as men, it's about being treated as stupid little girls because transphobes think we've been tricked into this.
It's kind of the opposite of transmisogyny- instead of fear and revulsion, it's constant condescension, the implications that we've been whisked away from femininity by scary bad guys, that we're going to cause 'irreparable damage' because we don't know what's best for ourselves, somehow. People fearmonger a lot about the "ugliness" of transfem people, but for transmasc people that 'ugliness' is used as a warning- you'll look like THIS! You'll go BALD! Your top surgery scars will leave you MUTILATED! A lot of aesthetic concerns. Worry about our 'beauty'. Because it comes from that same stupid reactionary 'we gotta SAVE the WOMEN' shit, but this time they have to save them from getting 'stolen away', as if we're being seduced or pressured into this. As if we can't make our own decisions.
For TERFS specifically, they're losing one of their own. We're 'gender traitors', willingly aligning ourselves with the half of the population they consider unilaterally dangerous and evil.
We aren't REALLY trans, we just want the benefits that men get. You don't actually want to transition, you're just trying to avoid misogyny.
You aren't actually a man, you're just a self-loathing lesbian.
Why can't you just be a butch girl? Why can't you just be a tomboy?
Why can't you just be something that I don't think is icky?
Anyway. Like all things, it boils down to misogyny. Women stupid and gentle, dont know what best for them, evil men trick into taking man juice, must save because lady stupid and dont know what best for them (having babies and being Feminine).
Theres like. Obviously more to this but I'm just a Transmasc Rando explaining this from my perspective, and I'm not the best with words. Anyone is free to hop in and add on to this

Addressing the Topic
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
People need to stop bending over backwards trying to justify why they would call Rita a woman or only using she/her pronouns when there are plenty of reliable sources that states they are canonically gender neutral.
The Producer, aka the one who pitched the premise, The Writer, the one in charge of the story and characters, and The Actor, the one who plays the character. Three people who have outright said that Rita is Gender Neutral or their gender is undisclosed.
An entire episode explaining that you should never make assumptions about Rita other than what they tell the audience via through their interactions with other characters. (Idol Rita isn't even Rita at all, btw. Being an idol was just a dream they had as a kid and moved on from and it was an undercover mission). Heck, if you have some kind of understand of the Japanese language, it's extremely obvious that Rita is never referred to with gendered terms until Episode 38 by Minongan aka the Jesters' Idiot who Rita only spoke 2.5 lines to and fooled by working undercover.
And don't use the "but Rita uses 私 (watashi) when referring to themself" on me. Kaguragi and Racles use it and both identify as male. It's a neutral term and also a formal one compared to the 俺 (ore) that Red, White, and Royal Blue uses.
As for the pronoun thing, you can use whatever pronoun you want for Rita. He/Him, She/Her, They/Them, Xe/Xer. Whatever. BUT it would be safer to use They/Them as that is the most neutral of the options and Rita's neutral. We don't know what English pronouns Rita prefers so play it safe with They/Them. Not that hard. They don't care what you call them, but it's safer to use the most neutral of the terms.
And to address the topic: no, we do not know if Rita being gender neutral is actually tied to their job as Supreme Justice. I vote No simply because of Karras and Morfonia. Morfonia identifies as female as far as we know and the same probably applies to Karras. How Rita identified as a child was undetermined, but considering no one is shown to know what their bio gender is (not even Morf or Karras), I'd say they're gender neutral regardless of their job. Probably poor wording on the production team's part, but who knows?
TL;DR Rita's Gender Neutral and that's that.
Deal with it.

The idea that trans people in "safe states" shouldn't still fight for their rights isn't the right thing to do, I think. In fact, I'd caution against complacency. We have to ensure that safe states stay safe states. You cannot assume your rights when they are being taken away in many other states

I have started a petition to the UK Government to scrap the new transphobic building requirements for every new non-residential building to have separate binary gendered toilets. It’s an ongoing part of the Tory hostile environment that means fewer public buildings will be able to provide ungendered bathrooms, as they are very unlikely to build three separate spaces.
I’m sure you all know how bathrooms are currently a flashpoint for transphobic abuse and violence, but I wanted to raise the fact, as a disabled nonbinary person, that only providing gendered bathrooms mean more trans binary and nonbinary and intersex people who are afraid of facing attack or abuse in them for being perceived as being “in the wrong space” end up having to use accessible bathrooms, even if they don’t have accessibility needs, for safety.
Given how inadequate accessible bathroom provision is, this means more people being forced into using an inadequate number of facilities, which can be really unpleasant for people with GI problems and other reasons they might need to use bathroom facilities very urgently.
Basically, this is a way to screw a whole load of marginalised people at once. I would really appreciate if you could sign and share my petition - I know it’s easy to feel it’s pointless, but given the Tories are such blatant populists, it’s far from the first time they have u-turned when people make noise about an issue.
Please sign and share!

Transunitism as an idea is one of the best things that happened to the trans community. It's literally a framework to unite our experiences. Understand each other and work together. Fight transphobia instead of fighting each other.

This summer, The International Anti-Fascist Defence Fund helped pay for lawyers for two anti-fascists arrested in Pittsburgh during a protest against an event where trans people's right to exist was being "debated" by a paleo-conservative libertarian and one of Ben Shapiro's lackeys. Full story above. Help us defend the people defending the rights of trans people to simply exist - make a contribution to the Defence Fund!
