The First Move
[Tired of waiting for their clueless hombres to make the first move, Julieta and Pepa decide they are just going to have to take matters into their own hands.]
“Juli, you have been in here all night. You should come dance, enjoy the party!”
“No gracias, I…I, uh, want to get ahead. If tomorrow is anything like today then I need to be ready.”
From where she was sat on the edge of the table in la cocina, picking at the buñuelo in her hand and putting another piece in her mouth as she watched her hermana knead the dough for her arepas, Pepa frowned as she had a sneaking suspicion there was more to this than she was letting on. For as long as she had known her, so all their lives, she had never seen her turn down the opportunity to leave the kitchen for a couple of hours and have some fun. Not only that, but she adored parties and so there just had to be something going on with her.
Hopping down from the table once she was done eating, she began to make her way across the room to where Juli was standing at the counter and leaned against it, clearing her throat with a smirk when she looked at her out of the corner of her eye. “You know, I just remembered seeing Señor Rojas speaking with Félix and Bruno before I came looking for you,” She told her in a soft voice, doing her best to keep from chuckling at the deep blush she saw bloom in her cheeks. “I don’t suppose that has anything to do with you hiding in here, does it?”
“Ay Pepa, I’m not hiding!”
“Juli, who are you trying to convince? You or me?”
Julieta reached for the tea towel on the counter and used it to wipe the dough from her hands, sighing as she pushed the bowl away from her and turned around to lean against the counter like her hermana. “I act like an idiota in front of him,” She muttered. “I’m not like you, I have no idea how to talk to hombres and when he’s around me I forget how words work and then I start laughing at things that aren’t even graciosa because I get nervous. Not only that, but I can’t dance so I would make more of an idiota of myself if he asked me for one.”
“You…you think you’re the idiota?” Pepa raised an eyebrow. “The hombre fell over air earlier, remember?”
Julieta chuckled under her breath at the memory, reaching up to tuck a curl that came free from her bun back behind her ear. “He may not be the best at…well…life, but he’s still a caballero and so sweet and that’s what I love about him. You can’t deny there are too many hombres in this town who think the world revolves around them. Who think they can put their hands on us without our say so and complain when we aren’t grateful for the atención,” She watched Pepa nod in agreement as she rubbed at her arm. “I really don’t want to marry an hombre like that and I don’t think you want to either. I see the way you smile at Félix whenever he’s around.”
“Huh? No, no, no, I don’t like him like that.” Pepa argued though her face turned bright red.
“Now who’s trying to do the convincing?” Julieta teased. “Admit it, you have it as bad for him as I do Gus.”
Pepa smirked. “He is a bailarina fabulosa…”
“Do you think they know?”
“Oh, believe me, they know. They’re just too scared to do anything about it, cobardes.”
“Well then,” Julieta reached back to start untying her apron. “I guess that means we’ll have to.”
Pepa looked at her with wide eyes. “What do you mean?”
“This is the 20th siglo, I think we can ask an hombre to dance with us if we want to,” Julieta rolled her eyes. “I know I said the thought of dancing makes me nervous, but I don’t mind asking Gus as long as you ask Félix.”
“Okay, deal.” Pepa nodded.
Once her apron was removed and she had covered the large bowl of dough on the counter with the tea towel, Julieta reached for her hermana’s hand and the two of them began to make their way out of la cocina together. For a moment, they stood there in the doorway and scanned the courtyard with their eyes before they spotted both Félix and Agustín standing in the corner with their hermano. “Bruno is going to hate us for this, you do know that?” Pepa leant in towards her sister as she said those words, chuckling and giving her hand a squeeze.
“Ah, he hates us already so I don’t think it matters.” Julieta pointed out.
They shared a look before starting to weave their way through the many people dancing, chatting and drinking in the courtyard, and the three men looked up at them when they came to stand in front of them. Julieta was just about to open her mouth to speak when Pepa dropped her hand, grabbed the can of beer from Felix’s, set it down on the table and began to drag him away from the group. “Pepa, I said to ask not force!” She shouted.
Her hermana shrugged at her and she sighed and turned back to her brother and Agustín.
“Uh, everything okay, Juli?” Agustín raised an eyebrow at her.
“She’s going to ask you to dance with her because she’s irritante.” Bruno grumbled, sipping at his beer.
“You…you are?” Agustín asked, stunned, as he put his beer down beside Félix’s.
Julieta played nervously with her hands for a moment. “Sí. I…I mean, I…I was going to, but you don’t…”
Reaching for her hand, Agustín took it in his and chuckled when she fell silent. “I’d love to dance with you.”
“She can’t dance to save her life, by the way.” Bruno told him.
“Cállate!” She hissed.
“I don’t care, honestly,” Agustín admitted with a chuckle. “Come on.”
She let him lead her further into the courtyard then and he dropped her hand once they found a spot to dance in, bringing both his hands to her waist so he could pull her close while she laced her arms loosely around his neck. Swaying in time to the music, they looked at one another in silence for a little while before she let out a sigh and stepped further into him. “Bruno was right, you know, I really can’t dance.” She said, her voice quiet.
“Is that why you spent half the night hiding from me in la cocina?” He asked.
“Why does everyone think I was hiding in there?”
“Well, were you?”
“Uh, maybe…”
“Why were you hiding from me?” He pressed, brushing his thumb against her side through her dress.
“Because I didn’t want to make an idiota of myself and that’s all I do when I’m around you.” She admitted.
“You do?” He seemed genuinely surprised.
“You never noticed? Gus, I can barely string two words together half the time and I end up laughing because I get so nervous, how could you not notice?” Her brows knitted together. “I thought you thought I was strange.”
He shook his head. “No, I don’t think you’re strange. I think you’re asombroso and muy hermosa.”
Sinking her teeth into her bottom lip, she felt her cheeks burn. “¿Honestamente?”
“Honestamente,” He echoed with a nod. “And if you need a little more convincing…”
He took a hand from her waist and the two of them stopped dancing for a moment, her heart beating slightly faster when he brought that hand up and took her by the chin. Her gaze moved slowly back and forth between his and his lips for a second and she swallowed nervously when he pulled her closer with the hand still on her waist, but then he brushed his lips against hers. It was a quick kiss, so quick she barely had time to respond to it, but when he pulled away she rested a hand on the side of his neck and brought him back down to her. She felt more than heard his chuckle as she kissed him tenderly and it made her smile, her love for him deepening.
When they parted again moments later, their breathing rather heavy as he leaned his forehead against hers and held her to him, they shared a smile and she cuddled against him on instinct. “I have been wanting to do that since the moment I met you,” He somehow breathed while looking into her eyes. “It was well worth the wait.”
“For me too,” She whispered, stretching up to kiss him once again. “Uh…I’m not sure what we do now.”
“For now, we dance,” He told her while his hands went back to her waist. “Everything else will come in time.”
Nodding, she slipped her arms back around his neck and teased the baby hairs she found there as they started to sway in time with the music once more. It was then that she remembered about her hermana and Félix and turned her head to look for them, a smile spreading across her face as she saw them dancing a short way away from them. It had been intimidating, the prospect of making the first move, probably just as much for Pepa as it was for her despite her being the more outgoing one, but she was glad they had found the courage to do so.
Should they have waited for them to do it, they no doubt would have been waiting all their lives.
It was no longer something they had to worry about though and she was sure there were many blessings ahead.
So many blessings.

Do you have any NSFW Pepa and Felix headcanon, also NSFW Julieta and Agustin Headcanon
I thought you'd never ask! Some of these can be read in a few of my fics of these two.
Julieta X Agustin
I mentioned in a previous headcanon post that they lost their virginities to each other, but both were for different reasons. Julieta wanted her first time to be with someone special, not necessarily waiting until marriage (she’s not as serious about that as Alma is), but with someone she knew for a fact she was going to marry. Agustin was just a dork that never kissed a girl before Julieta came along.
They’re always private about their sex lives. When Julieta gave the girls the talk, her own sex life was out of the conversation.
They also never have sex anywhere outside of the bedroom. If they’re feeling a little more adventurous, they would do it in the shower together.
Their first time having sex did involve an accident. Julieta and Agustin ended up bumping heads after Agustin attempted to get up after they finished.
Julieta was never angry at him for it. She found it pretty funny. And getting an after-sex arepa was the cherry on top.
Ever since then, they have been in several sex related accidents. Every time they tried experimenting, it would result in an accident. Agustin is just that much of an accident magnet.
Because of this, they mostly stick with vanilla sex.
Agustin prefers to be on the bottom, where Julieta prefers to be on top.
As an add on, both of their favorite positions are Cowgirl or Reverse Cowgirl.
Pepa X Felix
Both of them are EXTREMELY vocal in bed. Sometimes, they would have to remind themselves or even each other that someone is home whenever they’re about to go down on each other.
They LOVE to experiment. They would use blindfolds, tie each other up, you name it. The blindfold is Pepa’s favorite, though.
Pepa was a very rebellious child, so she lost her virginity when she was only fourteen. Felix lost his at sixteen.
Along with being super vocal, they also LOVE to do dirty talk with each other. Sometimes, they get so carried away that they may accidentally traumatize another family member if, on the off chance, they got home early.
There has not been a single room in Casita that Pepa and Felix have not had sex in. Casita would even get annoyed sometimes and push them to another more private room.
Pepa is very direct in what she wants and doesn’t want. This has massively helped her and Felix’s sex life because their communication and consent were extremely clear.
Pepa prefers to be the sub most of the time, mainly because she loves being taken care of, but she also has her moments where she wants to be on top.
Felix’s favorite positions are Cowgirl and Reverse Cowgirl, but Pepa’s favorites are Missionary and Doggy (she's a bit of a pillow princess).
Whenever they finish, they always kiss as a cool down. They also kiss as a warm up because they can never get enough of each other.

Do you think Félix is so insistent on telling Mirabel about Bruno because he doesn’t normally get to talk about his wedding? Like, Bruno “ruined” the wedding, and they aren’t allowed to talk about him, so do you think this is the only time he gets to talk about his wedding?

I know this movie is recent-ish, but the lack of an Encanto series is still crazy to me.
Like, it doesn't even need crazy magical lore, it can be episodic, it's so simple:
Family dynamics not seen in the movie
Why doesn't Mirabel have a gift (theory of her being the next matriarch being the most obvious one)
Seeing the other rooms
Bruno's new interactions with the townspeople and the family
FERAL ISABELA!!!
Dolores and Mariano
Unexplored trauma with Dolores and Camilo, GET THEM THEIR SOLO SONGS!!!!
The dads' sides of the family
Abuela Alma trying to do better
Childhoods of the triplets
On that same note, how the couples met each other.
More on Alma and Pedro. Etc
And if you wanted new stuff, HAVE THEM OPEN THE ENCANTO TO LET MORE PEOPLE IN, new technology that Encanto doesn't have access to, new ideas and cultures - it can even bring drama if the new people try to do bad things and the family goes all x-men on them.
It's so many possibilities that if they never do it it's a damn shame.

my encanto analysis/headcanon that no one asked for
so, i was just looking through some encanto fanart and headcanons and came across this piece (artist: https://mobile.twitter.com/ye_enc):
Tumblr media
abuela had triplets - julieta, pepa, and bruno. both julieta and pepa had three kids - isabella, luisa, and mirabel for julieta, and dolores, camilo, and antonio for pepa.
what i noticed is that for each batch of three, each individual falls under a certain category, and it seems to follow by age.
julieta was, as this lovely fanart shows, likely depended on quite frequently for her ability to heal via her cooking. her gift would have been the most useful and therefore she likely would have been praised the most as “the perfect one”.
this, of course, next falls to isabella, who we see this with the most frequently. abuela very clearly is living the life she wished she could have lived through isabella, and is viewed as the perfect golden child by everyone around her.
dolores is a little different, but i believe she still fits the trope. she is basically the physical embodiment of “seen but not heard.” she keeps quiet on the things she knows would upset her family and doesn’t make herself heard, even when she is in pain, whether physical or emotional. she doesn’t tell anyone that she knows bruno has been living in the walls for the ten years he’s been missing; she doesn’t tell anyone about her feelings for mariano, because she knows that will upset abuela and her cousin’s “perfect for the encanto” arrangement; and one can only imagine how loud certain things are to her, that are endurable for us (fireworks, for example).
next are the middle children: pepa, luisa, and camilo. all of them have some kind of pressure on their shoulders. (and - just a fun thing i noticed - while luisa’s literal pressure is the many things she carries, pepa’s pressure is atmospheric pressure, because she controls the weather. but anyway, lol).
all three of these characters are told in one way or another to bottle up their emotions and keep them buried inside. with pepa, we see this very directly as she is constantly told by the other characters (especially abuela) to, as the fanart above shows, calm down and essentially turn off her emotions because of the damage she can cause with her weather powers. this kind of reminds me of the “conceal, don’t feel” thing that elsa had with her gloves. both pepa and elsa demonstrate the same growth throughout their movies, too - learning to accept themselves and their abilities and thus being able to control them instead of being controlled by them - but, i digress.
luisa, by contrast, is indirectly told to keep her emotions at bay. she is treated as something of a useful tool, both by the town and by abuela, and seen in a very masculine light despite her relatively feminine personality. because of this treatment and the expectation that she will always be strong that comes with it, she falls into the same category as pepa.
camilo, like dolores, is a little different, but still fits. we don’t see much of him in the movie, but i imagine he is depended on as being the funny one. if anyone reading this is into k-pop or bts, think of camilo as like the j-hope or the jin of the group. he’s always expected to be funny and smiling, lifting everyone else’s spirits - but who lifts his spirits?
and lastly, we have the youngest siblings - bruno, mirabel, and antonio. they fit into the roll, of course, of the scapegoat, of family disappointments.
bruno was rejected by the town and by his family, seen as a harbinger of chaos and horror, a bad omen - all because he can see the future, something that he obviously cannot control. but, of course, it’s easier to simply blame someone else than accept the truth or take responsibility for your own actions.
mirabel, of course, is treated in much the same way. she is seen as a bad omen, as well, and is quite literally feared to be the one who will destroy the family and the encanto, because of bruno’s vision.
antonio does not quite fit into this category, but i think if he had not gotten a gift, he would have been shunned in much the same way as bruno or mirabel. it can also be argued that his gift isn’t really very useful, and we can see abuela struggle for a moment to think of how they could put his gift to use at the breakfast at the beginning of the movie (”i told them to warm up your seat”).
anyway - this is all to say that each of the siblings in each of the batches of three appears to fill (or almost fill) the same rolls. i’m sure someone else has already noticed this and i’m just late to the party - but i thought it was cool.
