Can we please take a moment to realize Pepa and Félix are without question THE most affectionate Disney couple?
Let’s think about this for a second. The main romances are never together until the last scene, and their touches are limited to one or two kisses, and a short happily ever after montage where maybe he has his arm around her waist as they ride off into the sunset (every single Disney princess sans Nala and Belle). They’ll talk and laugh but they won’t ever actually touch or if they do it’s limited to maybe brushing hair back or touching them only when necessary to save them but that’s it. Every physical touch is all big grand romantic gestures that stand out and help move the plot along.
Belle and Beast, she ‘didn’t shudder as she touched his paw’ and then they have one romantic dance where her resting her head on his chest was the most physicality any Disney couple had in a while but again, it was a big romantic gesture designed to be noticed and move the plot along. They don’t touch just to touch. And even Nala almost every touch she had with Simba was deliberate and meant to be noticed and to move the romantic plot along (I don’t know about you but I think Pepa and Félix might have take the spot away from Nala and Simba for best Disney sex eyes)
The rare times there’s more than once romance in a movie it’s limited to what Augustin and Julieta have. A gentle simmering of sweet romance and that’s it. We hear they’re married, they may hold one another close at the end of the movie but again, very little actual physical affection.
Now let’s look at Pepa and Félix. There very first intro she’s literally grabbing him, yanking him close and lifting him up off his feet to kiss him
Tumblr media
Then his hand is around her waist and stays that way the entire time they walk up the stairs after their first scene. No big grand gesture, no plot development, just a background note you might not even catch. Then with Antonio’s gift ceremony he takes her by the shoulders and doesn’t let go, and when they’re waiting at the door they’re completely wrapped around one another and when he gets his gift again, just a background moment, but he misses her hand and she looks at him with sheer relief and adoration
Tumblr media
And let’s not forget the ‘fuck me’ eyes she gives him at breakfast when he gets her to calm down about the chair
Tumblr media
During the Bruno song I can’t even count how many times his hand is around her waist and the calling card to all Pepa/Félix shippers that is ‘I’m sorry Mi Vida go onnnn!’ Where he’s singing right into her ear and neck and she’s got *that* kind of smile on her face as she dies which is as close as Disney will ever get to a couple necking
Tumblr media
While I mentioned Disney romances only touching eachother to save the other I think theirs should count bc again, it’s just a background moment, not plot development, but when the house shakes and she falls he’s right there to catch her and help her. No plot, no big gesture, it’s not the focus of the scene… it’s just there
Tumblr media
And then during the end song…. My god. When Bruno whips her around his hand is right there to catch her and then he pulls her close where once again , she gives him bedroom eyes, his hand is on her waist and hers is on his chest.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also what’s even more miraculous and remarkable about it is this isn’t the star, this isn’t some 18 year old Disney princess, this is a 50 year old woman with three kids whose oldest is an adult herself, and Félix is a dark skinned Black man who is affectionate and loving and adoring, something you very rarely see in mainstream media. And what’s more is none of these moments are played for laughs. It’s straight and serious and romantic and physical and so amazing. Disney really broke the mold with them and I’m so grateful to them for it

Cute detail I just noticed- I like how Félix is smiling when he tells Pepa: "You're tornado-ing the flowers!" Because he knows she's off in her own little world and doesn't realise the storm she's created😭😭 and he knows being mad at her like it's her fault is just not good, not that he'd ever be mad at her, of course😌💅
Good hubby, 10/10 would wed again

Pepa, drunk: I have to say, you know, getting married is the bravest, most wonderful thing you can do. Because every day you come home and you’re just, like, “What? It’s you! I love you! You’re my sexy roommate and we love each other!”
Felix, also drunk: Pepa's talking about me!

At Casita glowed every room for those who had gifts. All of them except one or two. One door in a corner, hidden away by large vases with plants. A door at Casita that had lost it’s glow. Ever since you were gone. Antonio was making his way up the stairs, holding Dolores’s hand. Antonio was curious to know what it would be to receive a gift. Dolores giggled softly, coming at the top of the stairs. – “You still have time Antonio.” – said she, her voice soft like a whisper. Dolores guided Antonio to the nursery. Antonio leaned a bit back to look at the door that had lost it’s glow. Tio Bruno’s door. No one would talk to him about it. He had never met him, deep down he wished he could meet him one day. – “Come Antonio.” – spoke Dolores, giving his hand a little tug.
Antonio paused, noticing something else. The large vases that carried plants in it, had started to hang low. They revealed something. – “What’s that?” – pointed he out. Dolores turned, squeaking loud. She patted his hand, telling him that was nothing to worry about. – “Come Antonio…” – repeated she, tugging on his hand again. – “But I want to see what it is…it looks like a door.” – Antonio looked up to his sister, seeing her look frightful at him. Antonio broke free from her grip, running over to the door. – “Antonio.” – shout-whispered she out, holding her hand out.
Antonio arrived at the vases, pushing some leaves aside. He gasped slow and long, his eyes widening at the sight of another door. – “Who is Y/n?” – asked he, turning to his sister who hadn’t moved an inch. Antonio noticed his sister, pressing her lips together. Desperate to keep anything inside. Her lip trembled; her eyes grand as she knew she couldn’t tell him about it. It was better to not talk about it. – “Dolores…” – said he, practically begging her with his eyes. Dolores was ready to blow, shouting that she couldn’t talk about you when Isabella came out of her room. – “Dolores… what is…” – said she, walking gracefully over to her. Dolores pointed with a shaky finger at Antonio. Isabella gasped loud, flicking her wrist. Antonio stumbled backwards; his view blocked by a large amount of flowers popping up before him. – “What are you doing there Antonio?” – asked she, crossing her arms slowly.
“Who’s Y/n?” – said he, narrowing his eyes at her. Isabella clenched her hands, keeping her calm in. – “Why won’t you tell me who she is?” – he stomped his little foot against the wooden floors. Casita’s window shields flapping curiously. Isabella came walking over to him, swaying her finger in front of her. – “We don’t talk about Y/n!” – called she out. – “Y/n?” – Isabella gasped, spinning around sharply. Pepa had come up the stairs, standing frozen in her place. Her lip trembled, a cloud forming above her head. In a split second started it to rain in Casita, Pepa bawling her eyes out.
“Mi vida!” – shouted Félix from downstairs. He came running up with Camillo by his side. Pepa was crying hysterically, a strong wind coming up. – “Pepa! Mi vida, what is wrong?” – asked Félix, approaching his wife. – “Antonio found Y/n’s door.” – informed Dolores everyone, squeaking loud afterwards. – “Y/n!” – called Pepa out, a crash of lighting above her head. It spooked Félix and Camillo. – “Why won’t anyone tell me who is she?” – interfered Antonio, getting everyone’s attention. – “We don’t talk about Y/n!” – hissed Isabella out, crossing her arms. – “But who’s Y/n?” – Pepa moved her finger in the air, shushing Antonio loudly. She didn’t want to hear it. – “We don’t talk about Y/n.” – answered Félix, touching Pepa’s shoulder. Pepa glared at him, lighting striking above her head again. – “I really need to know about Y/n! Give me the truth and the whole truth.” – whimpered Antonio out, fumbling with his hands. – “We don’t talk about Y/n!” – said Pepa between a clenched jaw. – “But!” – added she, looking briefly up at the sky. – “It was a normal day.” – began she, Félix repeating her words behind her. – “No clouds in the sky.” – Félix nodded beside her. – “No clouds in the sky.” – repeated he, moving his hand in the air. Antonio came walking closer to them to hear more of the story. Isabella followed, leaving a trail of flower petals on the ground. - “Bruno walks in with a terrified glance.”
“Thunder!” – interrupted Félix, making Pepa glare at him. – “Are you telling the story, or am I?” – questioned she, crossing her arms. – “I’m sorry Mi vida, go on.” – apologized he, turning a little smile on Pepa’s face. – “Bruno says ‘it looks like danger.’ – continued Pepa. – “Why did he tell us?” – panicked Félix out, reliving the moment. – “In doing so he worries my brain.” – Pepa moved her hands up, swaying them through the little cloud above her head to scatter it away. – “Abuela get the locks.” – called Félix out, taking his wife’s hand carefully. -”Taken in a storm.” -  They looked at each other, saddened, too emotional to continue the story. Dolores stepped in, taking Antonio’s hand.
She pulled him closer to her, lowering herself a bit. – “Grew to live in fear of Bruno’s words. I could always hear him worrying and mumbling. I associate her with the sound of crystals. It’s a heavy lift what happened. Always left Abuela and the family frightful. Do you understand?” – Asked she of him, looking worried at him. Camillo stepped in to continue the story, taking Antonio’s hand. He pulled him towards him, shapeshifting into a cloaked figure. – “A seven-foot frame! Darkness on his back.” – called he out, shifting into himself again. – “When he took Y/n, it all fade to black.” – added he, luring Antonio closer to him. – “He saw her be, feasts on her screams.” – Isabella moved her hand, throwing flower petals against his face. – “Hey!” – called she out. Antonio was shivering with fear of Camillo’s description.
Isabella took his hand, lowering herself to his height. – “He told me that Y/n was in danger. That someone would take her in the night. He told us that he had foreseen it.” – calmly said Isabella, stroking his cheek. Dolores knelt down beside Isabella, making her little brother look at her. – “He told us that nothing could be done against it.” – her head lowered with a deep sigh. – “Who’s Y/n…” – begged Antonio to know with a trembling lip. – “Y/n is your sister, Tonito.” – Everyone gasped, seeing Abuela approach. She had snuck up on them. – “My sister?” – repeated Antonio curious, glancing up to his parents. Félix and Pepa nodded, trying to hold the tears back. Camillo turned his gaze into the distance, feeling saddened to think about it. - “Why did I talk about Y/n. I never should’ve brought up Y/n.” - mumbled Antonio to himself in pity.
Dolores looked down at her hands, seeing them shake. – “That is why we don’t talk about Y/n.” – spoke Isabella, slowly getting up. – “But who took her?” – questioned Antonio. Abuela sighed deep. – “Tonito… please…” – she motioned to his family, seeing how it made them upset. – “I…I…I couldn’t shapeshift…” – confessed Camillo, closing his eyes ashamed. Dolores moved her hands to her ears, covering them up. – “All my flowers died…” – breathed Isabella out, moving her arms around herself. – “Luisa felt weak… Mirabel locked herself up in the nursery…” – continued Isabella, looking away from Antonio. – “I created a hurricane for weeks.” – shamefully confessed Pepa, leaning against her husband. – “I couldn’t control it.”
“See Tonito… talking about Y/n pains our family…” – spoke Abuela. Antonio understood. He walked over to his father, hugging his leg. Félix picked him up, hugging him. Pepa stroking his back. – “Don’t worry Antonio…” – whispered she out. – “Don’t worry…”
~~~
You sat in your tower, looking out of the window. You wondered what laid beyond those mountains that stretched over the horizon. Exhaling deep, you wondered how it would feel be to be free again. Birds tumbling and flying above you, caught your attention for a moment. – “I wish I was free like you.” – said you. You got up, turning back. Your room in your tower was simple. Things any person needed to survive, yet no door. You started to walk around, walking past the plants in pots that were stationed all around your room. Walking by them, let you your hand glide over them. A stream of water fell down on them, watering them. You paused by one, looking down at it. Holding your hand above it, let you a drop of water form out of your hand.
You let it glide over your fingers, turning your hand. You then let it drop onto the flower. A moment later started the drop of water to shine and shimmer. Like a diamond, yet not quite yet like one. You were still amazed you could do that. Moving your hand over the flower again, let you the drop of water disappear. It was one of the things your kidnapper took you for. He thought he could sell those diamond like drops of water for lots of money. He did get a good price out of them, keeping you as his un-limitless source of power.
Moving over to your bed, let you yourself fall in it. Laying on it with your back, staring at the blank ceiling, drifted you away. The silence was the worst. Being all alone. You were used to be surrounded by so many people. Family… a family…closing your eyes, you felt the tears come up. You quickly rolled over to your side, curling up like a little ball. Your family… how much you missed them. It was getting harder and harder each day to try and remember they faces. It had been years since you were taken. Sobbing quietly you thought you would one day forget about them. Forget what they looked like, forget that you had a family that cared for you. Being left alone with nothing. No one that cared for you. Moving your hand under your pillow, felt you the papers under your pillow.
You slowly pulled them from under your pillow, bringing them closer to you. You smiled a bit between the tears, looking at them. You started to go through the pages of drawings you had made in an attempt to remember your family. You pointed at an elderly lady. – “Abuela…” – whispered you out. You then pointed at two figures. – “Mom… dad…” – said you, sniffing loud. The bright yellow standing out in your drawing. Looking at some more, you cried when you couldn’t remember the other names. They were lost in your mind. Some tears falling on your drawings, leaving little wet stains on them. Shoving them under your pillow again, you wanted to preserve them from your tears.
~~~
You awoke abruptly in the middle of the night. The entire tower felt like shaking. The ground rumbling and shaking. You quickly jumped out of your bed, feeling the floor tremble underneath your bare feet. – “What is going on?” – called you out, running carefully over to the edge. You gripped on tight, making sure you wouldn’t fall over the edge. Gasping loud, you saw in the distance the entire ground move. The entire structure of the tower was trembling and rumbling, making you grab on tight. Your eyes widened when you saw a large crack appear in the mountains. A crack that seemed to keep going. Trees ruffled and danced as the crack made it’s way fast over the ground. You needed to get out of this tower, or you would come crashing down with the tower. Screaming loud, reached the crack your tower sooner then expected. The crack went up, moving like a snake up. Breaking the bricks apart. You had to move quickly, or the entire tower would collapse with you in it.
Against the tower had grown some vines but they didn’t reach high enough. In a panicking state, guided you water to it, letting it grow faster. The vines came in motion, slowly growing larger as they came reaching up. – “Come on, come on.” – called you out between a clenched jaw. A part of the ceiling fell down, scaring you. The entire tower felt unstable, any moment it could come crashing down. Sending more water to the vines, tried you to think of nothing else. Finally the vines had reached up enough for you to grab a hold of it. You climbed out of the window, grabbing onto the vines. With a shaky tower, tried you to make your way down. Bricks falling down and missing you by an inch.
The tower cracked more, making you lose your grip. You screamed it out, falling the last part down. You came down with a loud thud, falling hard onto the grass. Luckily you weren’t far from the ground anymore. A couple of bruises, the rest would be fine. The ground was still shaking as you took a run for it. You ran as fast as you could to the source. Running up to the mountains, you didn’t think about your freedom yet. You only thought about your survival. The shaking finally stopped as you slowed down. The danger was out of the way, but what were you going to do now? Exhaling deep, set you coarse to the mountains. It would take you days to reach them, but you were willing to go that far. After walking for days arrived you at a large pond where you took a breather.
A lovely flower growing in the middle of it. You let your hands soak in the water, feeling the pureness of it. It calmed you, soothed you. A yellow butterfly caught your attention, landing gently on the flower. – “Mariposa…” – whispered you, enchanted by the butterfly. The butterfly came flying again, circling around you, then it flew away again. Continuing your way, you new you were close.
Standing in front of the mountains, they overtowered you grand. Casting a large shadow upon you. You touched the rocks for a moment, wondering if anything laid behind it. Your path blocked. Gasping surprised noticed you the yellow mariposa again. It fluttered around you, flying over to a rock on your right. You followed the butterfly. Widening your eyes, you were astonished to see a crack in the mountain. A way for you to go through. You thanked the Butterfly in silence, making your way into the unknown. The sun was blocking your eyesight for a moment, making you blink a few times. Then arose a town before you. You had never thought a town would lay beyond the mountains. Descending down felt you a slight tingling inside of you.
Something anew brewing inside of you. You were taken back by the sounds. You hadn’t been around a crowd for years; you weren’t used to it. Walking with covered up ears, smiled you pleasantly at the townsfolk. Perhaps there was someone here that could help you. Mirabel was walking around town, waving at everyone. She laughed seeing her cousin Camillo shapeshift into one of the children to chase them. Everything seemed normal to her. Ever since they had rebuild Casita, couldn’t they wish for more luck. Tio Bruno was accepted again. Casita stood high and mighty again. Her relationship with Abuela had improved. Everything was just right.
Mirabel stopped, pushing her glasses better on her nose. Gaping, she couldn’t believe her eyes. She had to be sure. – “Camillo! Camillo!” – called she out, turning around. Camillo shapeshifted back to himself, running over to his cousin. – “What is it Mirabel, I heard you shouting.” – said he. Mirabel pushed his face with her finger towards somewhere in front of him. Camillo’s eyes widened, his head shifting into five different people. Mirabel smacked him against his back, making him set his normal face back. – “Is that… is that…” – questioned Mirabel. – “Y/n!” – called Camillo out, running over to you with his arms up. You squeaked loud seeing someone run up to you. Before you could react, threw he his arms around you.
You got picked up from the ground, squeezed in his grip. – “I can’t believe you are back! It’s a miracle!” – called he out. You pushed yourself a bit off him, demanding him to place you down. Once on the ground, were you ready to give him a piece of your mind. – “You listen here…” – you gasped, recognizing him from your drawings. – “Camillo!” – shouted Mirabel. His name hit you like a tidal wave. You suddenly remembered it. – “Camillo! My brother Camillo!” – called you out, taking his hands. He nodded enthusiastically. You hugged him, overcome with tears of joy. Noticing Mirabel, hugged you her as well. You remembered them all.
Camillo and Mirabel were holding your hands, running towards Casita with you. – “Hey! Hey slow down!” – said Luisa, seeing them run over. – “Luisa!” – screamed you out. Luisa’s mouth dropped, pointing at you. – “Cousin Y/n?” – called she out. You nodded, letting go of Camillo and Mirabel. You ran up to Luisa, embracing her. Luisa picked you up, squashing you into her hug. – “Oh, cousin Y/n, I am so glad you are back.” – cried she out. Sitting on Luisa’s shoulder continued you your walk to Casita. Camillo jumping excitedly around. Mirabel singing her lungs out, getting everyone’s attention. At Casita dropped Agustin a pot. – “Y/n?” – said he confused. – “Y/n!” – called he then out more reassuring. He came running to the entrance of Casita, shouting loud. – “Y/n has returned. She is back!” – Luisa slowly let you down. Tio Agustin running up to you. He picked you up, spinning around with you.
Julieta, Isabella, Dolores, and Bruno came running out shouting and cheering. Abuela hurried outside, pausing at the sight of you. She clutched onto her chest, relieved. Félix, Pepa and Antonio ran up to you. Félix and Pepa sweeping you up in a warm embrace. Camillo, Dolores, and Antonio joined them, giving a family hug. Abuela noticed a yellow butterfly in the sky. She smiled. – Thank you, Pedro.” – whispered she, bowing her head up to the butterfly. Overwhelmed with love and hugs, felt you home again. Your door in Casita shining brighter then ever. You told them what happend and how much you loved them.
“I’m so sorry Y/n.” – said Tio Bruno. – “I couldn’t stop it.” – He looked shyly away. – “Tio Bruno… it’s alright… I know you did everything in your power to prevent it from happening.” – he smiled at you. You fell into an embrace with him, glad to see him again. Pepa wiped her tears away. – “My dear Y/n, I believe it is time to meet your little brother.” – She pushed a child forwards. – “I am Antonio.” – said he nervously. You immediately picked him up, embracing him. You laughed loud, covering your little brother with kisses on his cheeks. Antonio was glad to see you home, even though he never knew you.
